Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp d20+16=24 ; Tuesday April 27th, 2021 12:05:22 AM
For her DM's knowledge, Akuno has more or less hovered at 30ft above the monster thanks to her boots of levitation. She's pretty sure her insults have worn off. "Hey! Who said you bite someone else? The worm thinks its allowed to touch the people!"
She was talking a big game, but the truth was her voice had a bit of an edge to it. She was frightfully afraid for Haemir, just as she was for Thorondir. She digs deep and manifests some magic. As a princess in trade, there wasn't much she had for this situation, but if she could just stun it for a second....
She moves within 15 feet and casts color spray. If there's a way to NOT include Haemir she will, but she'd rather him be stunned than eaten.
Color Spray: 5HD+ Stunned for 1 round. Will DC 16 Negates (Monster should be at -2 for shaken.)
Standard Action: Taunt. Allows you to intimidate a creature using your bluff score instead of intimidate. Also ignores size modifiers. Result is 24 vs DC 20? (10 + 9hd + 1wis). Creatue is shaken for 1 round.
Shaken: A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Shaken is a less severe state of fear than frightened or panicked.
Move Action: Lower within 15 feet of the worm.
Hero Point: Cast Color Spray.
Stunned: A stunned creature drops everything held, can’t take actions, takes a –2 penalty to AC, and loses its Dexterity bonus to AC (if any). Attackers receive a +4 bonus on attack rolls to perform combat maneuvers against a stunned opponent.
Perhaps a kindly DM would consider Haemir held? If not he should be able to slip away hopefully by some other means.

Haemir is more than a little surprised when the blind creature makes its way over to him and chomps him - followed by a colour spray (Will Sv:22).
He casts Charm Monster (Will Sv DC:19) on the creature. Having successfully identified it (can I assume Haemir knows they supposedly understand Giant? If so) he yells at it Highlight to display spoiler: {"Put me down right now"!} in its language. (If not he will hope the charm stops him being eaten). If neither apply he gurgles "Run Fand" and his life flashes before him. ---
If I understand this correctly? 'Ensnared' spellcasters must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) or lose the spell (Haemir's concentration is:23).
Fand runs clear (wasn't sure what to roll: 2 - but she does have spring attack - if it's acrobatics? Result 10 or she can just double move away)

The creature is blinded and has tremorsense, and it can pinpoint the location of the three landbound heroes. "Pinpoint" means that it knows the location, but being blinded it still has a 50% miss chance. The creature misses Haemir on a concealment check of 1-50.

Haemir is not the most observant, a fact he highlights by happening to look towards Fand - missing the looming shadow (which blocks out the sun) and it's only when he notices the sudden lack of sunlight that he freezes - taking a second to look up... When he does he forms a crisp assessment that he's about to be recycled! Gaping maw from horizon-to-horizon and dripping saliva. In that moment as the creature's breath whips his hair like a hurricane (blowing out a fair amount of Sargrass dust) he virtually sees what it had for breakf... "Woah". By some quirk of twist of thread he ducks at the right second - accidentally. Maybe the blindness worked in his favour?! He retches and looks up to see the monster withdrawing and somehow he's still in one piece. "By Garguls beard" that was close, he wanted to say, but: " The WLA welcome brochure never mentioned their breath" comes out and he gags seeing monster spittle on his shoulder.
Then the centepedes appear.. All those legs tap-tap-tapping must be sending whatever sense (hearing/tremor/sonar) crazy and Fand leaps in: (clawing:(22) for 7 dmg; missing(10); and missing(18) with the last claw, but if flanking (6 dmg), she's smart enough to use any advantage). She's snarling and all protective (to Haemir's surprise and horror). Aw gotta love em, but seriously they'd be having words!
He shakes his head clear and leans back and casts Deep Slumber again (Will DC:19) after everyone's acted. ---
(Using last post's roll for concentration check he casts defensively - maybe that translates to casting without making much earth-vibration?)

Haemir holds a hand up: "Sol, it's 25 feet long n' weighs 10,000 lbs, we aren't moving it anywhere! We could maybe charm it and convince it to leave? But I suspect it would just cause problems elsewhere or come back". He checks his hair out with one hand as he thinks. "Hate to say it but maybe we use this to our advantage n' finish it off"? It's a decision he's not overly proud of but this thing is dangerous and letting it go doesn't make the place any safer. A co-ordinated simultaneous attack before it's heat kicks back in is Haemir's best plan. However, he's open to negotiation if anyone disagrees.

Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Thursday April 29th, 2021 10:44:23 PM
Akuno blushes a deep red at the compliment from Thorondir. "Well.. yes, yes of course I can!" She casts a prestidigitation spell to clean the goop and gore. While she directs the spell, she mutters. "I know its not like a maid, but I'd do it the old fashioned way if you asked nice. Maybe a little monogram or something above the pocket would.. be kinda nice?"
When the deed is done, she struts to Haemir and pats him hard on the back. His height nearly requires her to jump to put her hand in the right spot. "Well done! And Fand too! A retinue worthy of Princess Akuno, if I say so myself!"
As to whats next.. Akuno is in a weird spot. "Remember why we are here? To build our name and make people feel safe in the grass. I REALLY think if we can bring this thing back as a trophy, or at least part of it, people would realize JUST how strong we are."
She points at the worm. "Its massive, and its a symbol of strength in the ice and snow. An apex predator that fears nothing. If people see that WE slew it, both our name is circulated AND people can get a real scale of how strong we are. That's what we need right? People to know the Sargrass has heroes worthy to be praised.." Her voice dips a little. "And ya know, maybe word will travel that a catgirl princess hero is on the loose... and maybe my -real- parents will come looking?"
And with that, the real reason behind her adamant insistence they make themselves known is put on the table. There's a certain set of eyes she wants to attract, and its not a local gnome in a tavern.

Sol raises a slight amused eyebrow at the interplay with Akuno and Thorondir, bur says nothing.
"I must agree with Akuno. The peoples of the grasses must know they are safe while we are here, taking a trophy and showing it off may be a good start. I think people are aware of us, but not necessarily what we are doing. I think it would be good to remind them that we are here to help protect them."

I'm fine without any extra decoration too, I'm not very keen on style and fitting in with the social norms. You are very nice. I'll get the head and we will take it back, you will become known as a great warrior princess I am sure."
Thorondir takes out his dagger and carefully removes the head from the creature.
'Lil - (Carl) - 50/50 HP - AC 21/14/19 - CMD 17Spells Friday April 30th, 2021 4:01:02 PM
'Lil nods a welcome to Thorondir. "Sometimes in the heat'a things I forget that we ain't got a dedicated healer." She looks at the dead worm. Did she smash the head up too bad to use it as a trophy? Maybe it caved a small hole and squished the brain instead of shattered the skull. She wasn't down with the idea at first, but Akuno brings up a good point about showin' folks that she and her dudes were here to protect them. Hopefully she didn't mess it all up.
"We ain't gotta carry the whole thing, do we? Thing must weigh several tons." Not that cuttin' its head off would be easy. Thing's got serious armor plating and it's probably still hot under them scales. Plus, neither Maya nor Ramona would be useful in cutting. Maybe she could use a spiritual weapon spell to make a sword? She watches as Thorondir starts doing the work with a dagger, remembering what her ma used to say about eating elephants. She ain't got a dagger of her own, but if she can borrow one she'll help.

Sol has heard ancient tales of magical beasts and strange components being used to forge magical items, but modern arcane practice disdains such gorey and imprecise procedures. Some may enchant strange things, but that is never necessary.
[OOC: Pathfinder uses very few-to-no such reagents and components. All you do to make a magic item is input gold, time, and skill checks. No special ingredients ever needed [dragonhide is a notable exception]. That's a very bland way to make magic items, but there it is. OTOH, you can always roleplay the use of a strange ingredient. Use the hide to make a shield, and give the shield the acid resistance property. It costs the same as a wooden shield of acid resistance, so the addition of the hide would be for roleplay value only.]
Akuno cleverly uses a Floating Disk to carry their trophy back to the grasslands-traversing ship. Of course, the second disk follows Akuno per usual. The reason she needs the unseen servant to tow her when she sits atop one is that the spell follows the caster, as 'Lil comes to understand.

"I can preserve it, I think, until you can." Rose's temperature control allows for preserving organic items through either cold or heat, whichever is more appropriate. She chats with Thorondir on the way. "That's a perfectly reasonable line. I don't think I'd ask you to just kill something for a trophy, but in some cases I think making a trophy from a necessary kill is perfectly okay. If it is something that makes you uncomfortable though, I can make the unseen servants do it. They'll just need a knife or two."

OOC: hmmmm....here is my understanding of the situation. The party was leaving Zaran city headed for the ship when they happened across the body of dead gnome and a bit later they fought a Remorhaz. If you are going back to Zaran city, there is no need to go to the ship. if you are going to Rattledam or other places then you would be going back to the ship. I need some clarification.
Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Wednesday May 5th, 2021 10:34:17 PM
We were flying the ship, saw the gnomes fleeing, then stopped and went down to investigate if I recall correctly.
DM Cayzle - Back to the Boat Wednesday May 5th, 2021 10:41:04 PM
Yes, actually, the party had travelled a few hours by ship when they had this encounter. So they can go back to the ship, then to Zaran City, and arrive late at night of the same day they set out, if they push it a little.
DM Shane - The Map Wednesday May 5th, 2021 11:23:11 PM
OOC: Okay we will go with that then.
The party comes up with ways to store the head so that it will not get stinky on the way back to Zaran City.
Thorondir still tired from the fight and the flensing, tries to pack the head in the snow, but he makes a hash of it. He contents himself with his moral superiority concerning trophy hunting.
Haemir does a much better job of it.
'Lil gets things organized on the ship, and gets the party headed back to Zaran city.
Sol strikes out again,
Akuno helps to keep the cold stuff cold with her spell. she also discusses the philosophy of such things as trophies with Thorondir.
The sun is setting in the West as you arrive back to the clearing in front of the mountain where Zaran city makes its home.

At the Bar, the head is well received. the two groups are still there glaring at each other and one-upping each other. but when you enter with the Remohaz head...all animosity is lost. beer flows freely, shoot even the bar owner opens up the bar for a trophy like that!
They all want to hear the story. and the bar begins to fill as word of the big head makes its way around.
(if you wish, summarize the events leading up to and including the battle with the Remorhaz, maybe one of the bar patrons will know something about the dead gnome.)

Sol, not particularly skilled at orating, simply grabs a mug of ale and keeps to himself in one corner, unless grabbed and brought up or in someway encouraged. He doesn't make a big deal of his involvement in the defeat of the Remorhaz, and in fact unless directly question or spoken to, simply spends time drinking quietly in the corner, writing in his journal.

Haemir was quietly enjoying an ale with Fand curled up at his feet, when peer-pressure and cheeky grins encourage him to step up. He grins back at Lil and Thorondir, but having never done anything like this he casts a spell (1) and thinks for a few seconds. Reaching into his bag-of-holding he takes out a scroll, violin and then stands clearing his throat, waiting till he can hear a pin drop and the gnomes are hanging on baited breath. "Ladies and Gentleman, For the next few minutes do not be alarmed, we will take you through the key-hole of imagination. May I present the story of the Beast of the Icy Crag"... 'Sure why not ham it up'!? He thinks as the room begins to suddenly grow darker - shadows creep in and even the fireplace seems dimmer (2)
With his dark-vision he reads the scroll (3) and a mini illusionary scene lights up the table (and the darkness fades if necessary), consisting of snow and gnomes. Using images and the violin (to add some suspense) (4) he begins: "It was not the Sentinels who came upon the beast first, it was a group of gnomes. Chaymish had just used the rod to Detect for crystals, and as the group prepared to mine this poor gnome, named Rolly, was killed! He never even saw it coming". Suddenly the image of the Rhemorhaz bursts from the ground gripping the gnome - accompanied by violin pizzazz. (5).
The story unfolds - highlights include: "The gnomes flee and The Sentinels arrive".. The performance builds and the beast bites the druid and hurls him up: "Is all is lost for Thorondir? ... Alas, no he turns into wind and escapes"!
Fand leaping in clawing and being burned... (at which point she growls to add effect).
"It closes in on Haemir who manages to duck"! (6)
"Nothing upsets Akuno she bounces back with vigor and bravery taunting the creature towards her… He gasps emphasizing the bravery of such an act by showing the size differences between the cat-princess and beast!
"Sol's spells piercing the beast"...
"Lil's mighty blow finishing it off"
He brings the fight performance to an end with a flurry of action and musical effects. "And then to the poor lonely corpse left behind his story untold. After burning Rolly's body, the Sentinels are on mission to find and tell Taramay that he loved her". The violin takes on a somber tune for this part and the illusion zooms in on the gnome so everyone sees his face before the Sentinels cremate him respectfully.
To those that were there - you note Haemir glosses over his part - and the fact that the creature was asleep when finished off. Concluded he drops all spells, bows and grabs an ale (7). ---
(1) - Bloodwitch Lore - dead witches whisper help and encouragement into his ear (and he gains a +1 competence bonus on Concentration). (2) - Using his Drow (SLA) Darkness to cloak the room from normal light to dim light. (3) - Use Magic Device:23 (Vs a CL:1 scroll = DC:21) he casts: ''Silent Image'. (4) - Perform;15 - which is technically an ‘enjoyable performance’, enhancing music from his violin, nothing flash, just spooky chords etc. (5) - Concentration check:19 throughout to maintain the illusion whilst he performs. (6) - Bluff:26 - lying to himself so well even he believes he dodged it! (7) - Overall story performance:21 (excluding any stacking bonuses for effect) is technically a 'Great performance'.

Haemir's story is dramatic and powerful -- the crowd gasps in all the right places, and the party is lauded for bravery and for doing the right thing.
One older gnome comes up to you shortly after. "I'm Bill. Good story you got there. That were Chaymish's group, I reckin. I heard he and his group were headed out to the boundry to go treasure hunting. Dad-burned fools. That Rolly was the worst of them, always egging Chaymish on. I told him, I said, "Chaymish, what are you doing? You should know better. Or at least go out there better prepared."
Also, two other fellows approach the party after hearing this tale. They seem interested in joining you in your adventures. Evidently Haemir was very inspiring!
[OOC: Haemir, please accept a hero point. Well done. ALSO, the two new strangers are our two newest player characters! Please welcome them in our usual Woldian fashion after they make their first posts.]

Thorondir sits and sips on his ale as Haemir tells the tale. His mottled brown and green cloak seems to blend with the darkness of the bar. It is a bit battle worn, having just almost been eaten by the remorhaz.
"It is a true tale, the creature almost bit me in half and tried to swallow me. I outwitted it of course. It is a mighty foe, I would be very careful when you venture out unless you have the skills and power to outwit such a creature."
Thorondir looks around and motions to the head.
"That might be a good deterrent mounted at the gate. By the way, who is buying drinks? We aren't looking for a reward, but good manners suggest a thank-you drink or two."
Thorondir welcomes the strangers over and introduces himself. "I'm a druid, the grove sent me to watch over these folks and the ship the sail on."

'Lil whistles low. That was pretty impressive!
She looks the two newcomers up and down, takin'em in. 'Lil was pretty particular about this stuff. She didn't just bestow the title of Dude on anyone.
That ain't no reason to not be polite though! "Hey guys, I'm 'Lil. I keep these folks alive and stand between them and the bad guys. That's a new role for me after Grindar left, but someone's gotta do it."

Haemir thanks Bill for offering the information and talks with him a while. If Bill is happy to pass on Chaymish's last words: 'tell Taramay that he loved her' (and seems honest) he entrusts him, otherwise he asks how to find Taramay himself. Either way he buys the gnome an ale.
To the new arrivals - Haemir is a 6'2, slim, fey-like Elf resembling a surface drow, but with grey skin like mottled, weatherbeaten marble and hair that may actually be vines (supporting a fair amount of Sargrass' dust). His eyes mirror every exotic colour of the grass and he has a tattoo-tree down the inside of his left arm. Wearing a cloak with iridescent green/black raven-feathers on the shoulders, he carries a bag and displays no weapons (or anything metallic). Looking over the two new arrivals he cracks a friendly smile: "I'm Haemir, Cap'n o' the Maiden n' this is Fand" He says resting a hand on the Rapke sat next to him, she looks up from cleaning a paw and grunts.
Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Wednesday May 12th, 2021 8:41:15 PM
Akuno watches the two newcomers for a moment. She's not quite sure what to think, but she's certainly not going to be a gatekeeper for the sentinels. Or a recruiter. Instead, she's far more interested in what they think of her. There weren't a large number of beast-folk around, and the only one she really knew much about had already left their company.
Akuno (pic in my link) is small. What her 4 foot body lacks in bulk, it makes up for in frills and lace. LOTS of frills and lace. Ribbons are tied in bows, tiny boots are covered in supple leather, and there's a heart-shaped key around her neck. Little cat ears poke out from otherwise well groomed hair. She looks more like she belongs in a doll house, than the grass.
She waits, crosslegged on her seat, nestled into a million pillows. "Maybe they're suddenly shy?", she offers.
DM Shane - The Map Wednesday May 12th, 2021 11:16:42 PM
The new guys stand in mute awe as to the awesomeness that is the sentinels. You all tell your tales of how the sentinels came to be and a bit of your backstories but the new guys cannot seem to find their tongue. (sorry guys, we've emailed them but so far no word back).
A bit later into the party, an older couple comes in and approaches the party. Their faces are somber as Bill introduces them. These here are Rolly's maw and paw, Jorver Zarrudanin(the male), and Daphisany Whistlebraid(female) o' house Gopperwipple. I sent a runner to go get tell them the news of Rolly's fate, they wanted to come to thank ye for taken care of the lad and layin' him to rest properly, and also for killin' the beast that laid him low.
The older Gnome has a fine goatee and mustache, his clothes are of fine quality, it's hard to tell gnomes ages, but he looks to be middle age, his wife a rather Rubenesque lady who has a face that you see is more used to smiling than holding back tears, she clutches her shawl around her with a nervous hand.
Mr. Zarrudanin steps up and bows. T'was a fine thing you did, and I'm grateful. Rolly was a headstrong boy, but he had a good heart, I tried to dissuade him of his adventuring ways, but... he sighs...A wild heart must have its way. he wipes a tear from his eyes... He was our youngest, and his mom's baby .
Mrs. Whistlebraid bites her lip and looks equal parts sad and terrified, it's pretty clear she does not trust herself to speak.

'Lil is real torn.
Was it brave for the kid to go off, or was it just dumb and boastful? She decides without knowin' what the kid was capable of, she couldn't make that call. She also knows digging around to come up with an answer don't serve no one. Regardless, it was a senseless death that didn't accomplish nothing good. 'Lil could handle eulogizing folks what died in service accomplishing something, but this poor kid just went out with big dreams and got himself killed almost immediately. It's important to be brave, but you don't need to go leaving your family behind to prove it. She gulps at the lesson as it hits close to home. She should write Ma a letter.
She seems the missus can't bring herself to talk, and that's fine. 'Lil instead walks up to her, takes a knee, and holds her. "I know I'm a priest of the god of bravery, and I'm real sorry if that's a little on the nose for you right now. I'll ask the big guy if he'd mind doing what he can to help your son and the rest of you." She stands when the missus is ready for her to, and addresses the crowd.
"It's good to be brave and face danger to help your friends and family. Sometimes it takes more bravery to admit to those friends and family that you ain't ready to face that kind of danger head on. I don't know Rolly's life story and won't make that call for him. We don't always get the chance to avoid danger, but when we do, we should make sure we make the right call." She'll look any youngsters in the eye who 'Lil thinks need to hear this message (sense motive 32 to pick'em out of the crowd).
She hopes it was the right thing to say. She really doesn't want to give a "your son died as a warning to others" message. That wasn't cool and just reduced a life to a quippy talkin' point.

Spinning around Haemir suddenly finds himself face-to-face with Daphisany, emotions and all. The elation of his first ever performance evaporates, his voice fails and he freezes in a slightly awkward pose.
A few seconds later he breathes a sigh of relief, after Lil steps in and not just saves him, but dose so gracefully! He can't help but be stunned. In a few seconds the cleric gave a performance that would probably stay with some of the crowd forever!
He wasn't entirely sure why but he was glad none of the crew were called Mike or Mic, coz after that speech - they would so be dropped next to the cleric!
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill) Thursday May 13th, 2021 4:23:10 PM
A four foot tall humanoid black bear enthusiastically claps his hands together. "Huzzah and well said! Allow me to introduce myself...I am Herbert Bramblerose, at your service! It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance; you look to be good folk...I am looking for others to right wrongs with." He smiles in eagerness, warm brown eyes lighting up with excitement. Herbert wears a chainmail shirt with green clothes and a cloak. He wears an open face helm and has a sword and other weapons at his side...the bulge on his back indicates a traveling pack and gear under his cloak. His feet shuffle in excitement....he is a rather happy little fellow.
Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Thursday May 13th, 2021 5:06:50 PM
The fact that he's a beastkin makes her more nervous, not less. She was working under the assumption that every beastkin out there knew more about their own weird and fledgling race than she did, and that made her defensive.
She couldn't help but think though, that something about his cute little foot shuffle and how well spoken he was...brought out a bit of a smile.
"Well, hello to you Mister Bramblerose. I'm Princess Akuno. Now now, no need to bow or anything, out here were all on even footing!" As she says this, she nestles a bit more into her forest of pillows and cushions. She's also squeezing.. something invisible.. against her chest. "Frank and I are pleased to meet you." One eyebrow arches up, appraising the young bear-man. "Tell me, how do you right wrongs, Mister Bramblerose? What's your specialty? And finally.." ..her eyes seem to get a bit more excited as she pushes through the small talk. "Whats your chest size? Do you have any cloth allergies? Over heat easily? Pants preference? And finally, how do you feel about ascots?" As she barrages him with questions, she's merrily instructing the invisible, whatever it is, to flip to different pages in a book full of wonderfully illustrated fancy suits and dresses.

Though knowledge of the dangers is essential. I implore any of you that know of such dangerous creatures to let us know, so that others may not fall to Rolly's fate. I don't mean hunting bears to prove your courage, I talk of dangerous beasts like this Remorhaz. I myself was almost killed by it. Sol, his dirty blond hair half up half down, comes past the bear as it speaks, he stands, mouth agape for a moment, and looks the beastkin up and down.
He then shakes his head as if to bring himself back to his senses.
"Not the strangest thing I have seen on our journey."
He seems to pass by the family that have lost their son, apparently at a loss as to how to comfort them and not certain anything he can say will do any good at all, once they have left he smiles widely, and it comes out with a practiced and oft used ease.
"Good to meet you Bramblerose, please forgive Akuno, she gets very excitable. Though one question that would be useful and important to get out of the way is where do your skills lie?"
He then whispers to Akuno, not so quietly that you cannot hear, and with a soothing sort of voice.
"Do not worry, we can find out his clothing preferences later, but for now it may be good just to discover what he is capable of."
He then gestures to the Sentinels, and includes the two newcomers.
"Well, first round is on me, what would people like to drink?"

Almost as though a dam has burst Mrs Whistlebraid latches on to LIl and begins to cry softly, you hear her whisper in your ear. I'm so sorry, when I heard you had killed a terrible best, I assumed you'd be beasts yourself in the clothes of men. Thank you for the kind words and the offer to intercede with the god of bravery. Mr. Zarrudanin, places a gentle hand on her back, and looks concerned, his look says "she's in pain, but I hope she's not offending the heroes." caught between care for his wife, not wishing to offend and the pain of losing a son, he stands there. Eventually Bill, with surprising gentleness and tact gets them to disengage and leave.
Akuno does not quite know what to think of the new guy, but if he likes clothes they should get along just fine.
Haemir enraptures the rest of the bar with his telling of the tale, The gnomes roar with cheers and pound their shoulders in what for gnomes is applause, they also line up to buy the crew drinks.
Sol introduces himself to Mr. Bramblerose, and offers to buy the drinks, only to find that it has been taken care of.
Thorondir offers condolences to the deceased's family and introduces himself to the new guy.
folk pile into the bar, all eager to see the trophy, the tale is told and retold growing in the telling both form the embellishments of gossip and the inebriated state of the bar patrons. Gnomish ale and spirits don't pack the kick that dwarven brews do, but they do have other effects. Colors look sharper and things seem to move at the corners of your vision. Your thoughts remain clear, but a kind of psychedelic euphoria suffices your being becoming deeper and more profound as you drink. various gnomes, both male and female make it quite clear that should you wish company for the night, they are available and eager. Bill once again quietly weeds out the working folk and the grifters, making sure that you aren't being suckered into losing your gold. You would not have noticed, but the Green Gnomish, seems to have sharpened your perception.
How many drinks to you let the bar patrons buy you? Each of you give me a number.

Another beastperson? That was interesting. 'Lil didn't think this one looked like the sort to replace Akuno's long-lost dogboy, but that's fine.
"'Lil," she says as an introduction while offerin' Bill a hand to shake. She's human, average height but solidly built. She didn't wear her armor to the party, so her low-cut top reveals a symbol of Domi tattooed on her chest. Her red hair's been bleached a bit by the sun since she arrived in Sargrass, and her skin's darker than it's ever been.
She'll have 1 drink if it's a gnomish. Two otherwise.
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert S) Friday May 14th, 2021 3:47:50 PM
Once you all have acquainted yourself with Herbert, and the matter with the gnomes is resolved, a stocky, heavily muscled dwarf walks up to the group. He wears brightly polished plate armor with gilt work along the edges, underneath a purple tabard and cloak. At his side, a heavy falchion rests, its bright red hilt and silvery pommel pointing to the party. His long, black, luxurious beard flows down across his chest, and his mustaches are braided, with a golden ring around the end of each. He catches your attention, and gives a polite nod of respect.
"Well met, fellow adventurers! The tales of your exploits are quite impressive indeed. Would you perchance be looking for assistance in future endeavors? I am a quite capable warrior myself, and have been looking for companions to help me vanquish the various evils of this world."

I know it just looks like tall grass, but there are a lot of hidden dangers in it. You are welcome to join, if the others are fine with it."
Thorondir will have 3 gnomish drinks.

Akuno smiles at Rurik too. How fortunate! She herself knew a thing or two about getting along perfectly with dwarves. "Yes, well hello Rurik! From the looks of things, you'd have shorn the beard right off the chin if you were with us! Strong fighters are always welcome!" She leans forward as far as her assorted pillows will let her. "Between us, our last frontline fighter didn't like me much. Our relationship was sort of a watered down stout, and went down sour!" She gives a smug wink. "But I'm sure you and I will get along like hops and barley!"
After that masterclass in racial relations, she sure was thirsty. Though only 27 lbs soaking wet, she will accept drinks for long as they keep coming. "Why thank you!" she smiles to anyone buying, and winks at 'Lil. "See!, she whispers. "They like me! They really like me!"This was the taste of adventure she sought. More deeds like this, and people would be knocking down her door to find out who she was and where she came from. One of those would eventually be her parents! Of that, she was certain.
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill) Friday May 14th, 2021 11:04:56 PM
Herbert turns to Rurik; "Yes! Another brother in arms! We will join this fine crew and do good and worthy deeds!" Herbert beams with pride. "Oh! I've never had gnomish brew before...it seems like my horizons are going to be broadened!" As he reaches for a tankard, Herbert knocks it over in his excitement. "Oops...I'm..I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. Here, let me help clean that up. May I have a rag please? And another drink? I won't spill this one...I promise!"
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 Friday May 14th, 2021 11:15:57 PM
Something about Herbert endears Haemir immediately. Maybe he reminds him of another beast-folk or maybe it's his happy, enthusiasm? "A knack for bringing people together? Sounds intriging".
Haemir will drink, spacing them out and taking note off the effects. He also enquires what the ale is and may have more later. Fand keeps an eye on him.
He greets Rurik as well. Looking the muscled dwarf up and down he whistles. "Fer sure we could use your skills as well, maybe you n' Master Bramblerose would like to explore the Sargrass Plains with us"? These two looked like fine additions. "Assuming the other Sentinels are ok with it? I'd be honoured to have you both along. Do you know much about the Sargrass"?
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert S) Monday May 17th, 2021 2:20:15 PM
Rurik is slightly taken aback by the rather flamboyant display of personality, though he doesn't let it show. The heroes and adventurers in the legends he was told wouldn't be so bumbling, and his old traveling companions when he was in the army would have certainly been less boisterous. He chalks it up to a quirk of the thin beards (gnomes and halflings) and twicelings (anyone taller than a dwarf) and takes a seat.
"I'm afraid I know little of the area, Haemir. I have only just recently arrived, and have yet to find a task suitable for my purposes, until now. But I thank you all for the warm welcome."
He accepts a drink from one of the passerby, but presses a coin into their hand.
"These tasks were not done by me, it is not my right to accept other's glory." Turning back to address the rest of the party, taking a short sip from his drink, "Not as good as the stuff back home" he thinks, and he continues.
"Speaking of such things, what plans did you all have in mind after defeating that monster? I assume you have some greater mission in mind. What evil do we seek to vanquish?"

"Only the evils of doubt and worry right now," 'Lil answers Rurik. "That worm head is to show the folks back at New Rattledam, and anyone else what's thinking of joining us, that we're capable of offering protection. We ain't found no big evil to fight yet, but we seem to have a knack for making druids angry at us." She gives a nod to Thorondir. "Present company excluded...well, usually excluded." She smiles, showin' she ain't totally serious.
"But, we're probably heading back there after we leave here. New Rattledam's a new community with a lot of history. We need people to make it grow, but gettin' there is dangerous. It's why we went and found what we need for our ship. If yer both interested, we could use all the bodies we can get."

Gnomish drinks! (DM Cayzle) Monday May 17th, 2021 11:20:55 PM
There are gnomish drinks and there are gnomish drinks. The green ones are the most notorious! Known the Wold over, in fact.
If anyone wants to try a regular green gnomish ... please make a DC18 Fortitude save. If you make the save, Highlight to display spoiler: {you feel pleasantly inebriated} If you fail by 1-5 points, then Highlight to display spoiler: {you feel nauseated} If you fail by 6+ points, then Highlight to display spoiler: {you pass out}
If anyone wants to try a flaming green gnomish ... please make a DC20 Fortitude save. If you make the save, Highlight to display spoiler: {you feel pleasantly inebriated} If you fail by 1-5 points, then Highlight to display spoiler: {you feel nauseated and fatigued} If you fail by 6+ points, then Highlight to display spoiler: {you get obnoxiously drunk, projectile vomit, then pass out}
If anyone asks for a non-alcoholic drink, the bartender apologizes and say that he has no one here who can teleport.
For the Flaming Green Gnomishes, each one after the first increases the save DC by 4.
[OOC to new Woldians (and a reminder to old ones) ... when a DM puts text in spoiler tags, only read it if you are the intended reader. Cheating is a bad idea.]
Thorondir (KellyB) -- AC 18/14/14 -- HP: 39/39 -- Aewen: AC 14 -- HP 16/16 d20+5=7 ; Monday May 17th, 2021 11:52:30 PM
Thorondir is set to have three of the famous green gnomish drinks. He has heard so much about them, certainly this will be a treat he will remember for a long time.
"Here is to you, my old friends and new ones. Let us continue to fight with honor and courage when necessary, but for now let us enjoy a few of the famous gnomish drinks."
He takes the first drink, and decides to swallow it down in one quick gulp.
****Thorondir passes out and hits the floor****
Elijah "Sol" Solomon (Daniel) HP:36/36 AC/T/FF:15/11/10 - CMD:15 Active Spells: Mage Armour d20+4=11 ; Tuesday May 18th, 2021 1:51:00 AM
Sol, with great apprehension tries the regular, his fortitude is not exactly top notch, so he fears this may be a bad idea.
"I have a bad feeling about this... but nothing ventured nothing gained!" He takes a drink, and at first seems fine, but by the end of the drink, he has slumped down on the floor next to Thorondir.
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert) | AC 19 | CMD 19 | 48/48 HP | d20+9=29 ; Tuesday May 18th, 2021 12:11:58 PM
Taking another sip of the flaming green gnomish, Rurik looks at it in surprise.
By my beard! That's quite a bit more powerful than I had expected! Perhaps these gnomish drinks aren't a wash after all...almost as good as the stuff back home."
Looking around at the fate of his new companions, he chuckles softly as he takes another sip, and mutters "I'd recommend not trying to out drink a dwarf in the future, for your own health."
Putting his drink down on the table, he stands up and walks over to his collapsed comrades, checking to make sure they are alright. He props them up with cushions so they won't hurt themselves, and leaves a canteen of water between them in easy reach for when they wake up, and leaves them to sleep it off.
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 d20+8=19 ; Tuesday May 18th, 2021 3:16:35 PM
After the performance Haemir was handed an ale and downs it in one. It wasn't till people started passing out that he took stock and chuckles - 'Flaming Green Gnomish'. (Fort:19). Considering himself lucky to have survived one (a feat he'd rarely done), he notes he's already pleasantly inebriated and stops there. He does have a grin on his face.
Fand gives Haemir a judgmental look of disdain - or she could just be stretching? She definitely shakes her head though and strolls over, flops down and curls up guarding the propped up heroes...
Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp d20=5 ; Tuesday May 18th, 2021 3:53:33 PM
Akuno finishes about an eighth of a mug before some apparently casts Earthquake on the room. She eyes Rurik suspiciously. "Oy! Did you poison me?!", and the she's done. She flops face first onto her bench full of pillows, and dreams of unicorns and princesses being chased by flaming green gnomes.
DM Shane - The Map Tuesday May 18th, 2021 10:14:20 PM
The day arrives in the mountains like a lightning bolt. they light from the sun hitting you like Domi's own fire of judgment. The pain is real, aching head, sick to your stomach, joint aches and photophobia. (those of you who failed the save), you find you are surrounded by piles of gnomes who have either passed out or decided that sleeping beside the Sentinels was as good a place as any.
the time after the drinks is a bit blurry.
Akuno remembers vague memories of gnomes chanting something about princess neko and rubbing her ears.
Thorondir remembers someone yelling "We're going to Cloud City! and then blackness.
Haemir reaffirms to himself that babysitting drunks are not as much fun as it sounds.
Sol you wake up wearing someone else's clothes. that person is a gnome because they are not your size. looking to your right you see your clothes with a small gnome-shaped lump snoring away with it's tiny limbs 1/3 the way down the sleeves and pants legs.
Lil Awakens to a bight beautiful day, laying in her bed at the inn.
'Lil - (Carl) - 50/50 HP - AC 21/14/19 - CMD 17Spells Tuesday May 18th, 2021 10:36:57 PM
OOC: My timing is all off this week...
'Lil decided someone needed to not pass out last night, so she played Den mother. Good thing she's strong enough to hoist all her dudes over her shoulder and into bed. She ain't sure where Sol ran off to, but hopes he had a good time. At least Haemir kept her company.
She stretches, somewhat contented by the fact that she's probably the only one of her little gang who's going to have a good morning. She goes downstairs and does a headcount of anyone who ain't up yet, then orders up some eggs and fruit for breakfast with a few jugs of water. She'll also grab some kippers, lox, or other breakfast fish for Akuno if they have any. She runs the lot up to her companions, fighting off the memories of doing this most mornings for Ma.
She instructs her hungover friends to drink and eat, offering the food at first and ramping up her insistence if they resist. She wanted to get going back home.
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill) Tuesday May 18th, 2021 11:11:01 PM
Herbert had mustered up the courage to try the strange brew, but after seeing what happened to his new friends Thank anyway, but I realize that I'm not that thirsty. And I shouldn't drink on an empty stomach... and tries to look nonchalant...
Thorondir (KellyB) -- AC 18/14/14 -- HP: 39/39 -- Aewen: AC 14 -- HP 16/16 Wednesday May 19th, 2021 12:24:45 PM "Are we in Cloud City?"
Thorondir props himself up on one elbow and looks around. It doesn't seem like a cloud city, but he is certain he was going there last night. He then notices 'Lil offering food to him and the others laying about.
"'Lil, did we go to Cloud City? What happened? Perhaps the gnomes put a spell on us, something doesn't feel right."
Thorondir nibbles at the food and takes a long drink of water.
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert) | AC 19 | CMD 19 | 48/48 HP | Wednesday May 19th, 2021 3:46:02 PM
Rurik walks into the main room, armor freshly polished and beard perfectly braided, not a hair out of place, as if he hadn't drunk anything at all last night. He nods to the rest of the party and sits down, taking a plate of eggs.
"Not used to drinking, Thorondir?" He raises an eyebrow. "Don't worry, while it may feel like your skull's a forge for now, it shall pass with time. No spells, just unusually strong alcohol for a non dwarven brew. For now, eat, drink, and be as merry as you can while we plan our adventure ahead."
'Lil - (Carl) - 50/50 HP - AC 21/14/19 - CMD 17Spells Wednesday May 19th, 2021 5:55:23 PM "Pretty sure you went somewhere last night, but your body was safe and sound here." She nods approvingly as her druid dude eats. "What's Cloud City, anyway? That some kinda sky grove or something?"
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 d20+7=14 ; Wednesday May 19th, 2021 8:55:30 PM
Haemir is sat staring at a bowl of fruit. Beside it lays a crumpled copy of the Sargrass Gazette. "If you know next t'nothing about the plains, there's some light reading for breakfast" he says without taking his eyes from the bowl, he does however, playfully smirk.
Unable to resist any longer he picks out some apples and begins juggling. (Sleight of hand 14 - nothing spectacular but not embarassing). Gradually he finds a rhythm - and has breakfast at the same time.
Afterwards: "So, New Rattledam anyone"?
DM Shane - The Map Wednesday May 19th, 2021 10:13:14 PM
OOC; let me apologize to Hurbert and Rurik, I'm not used to you guys yet and I clean forgot to mention you in the last post. Herbert shows great wisdom, it's a rare being that can learn from another being's misfortune.
Rurik Knowing that a hungover person hates to condescension and cheerful folk the most in the morning is off to a great start!
Lil gods bless her, she steps up to tend the wounded like a champ.
Thorondir questions the distorted memories of last nigh, he is able to get some food down though.
Haemir offers the newcomers some light reading. good information for anyone traveling the plains. he also puts forth the question on everyone's mind. "where to now?" New Rattledam was on your list was it not?
Akuno does not want to wake up, life is painful and the dream she is having is sweet.
Sol is still trying to figure out the enigma of the clothes.
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill Soucy) Wednesday May 19th, 2021 11:25:34 PM Oooh! That's a neat trick! Herbert says to Haemir, with barking laughter as he claps his paws. Herbert keeps his distance though...he knows how clumsy he is and doesn't want to ruin the display. What's New Rattledam?
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 d20+9=11 ; Thursday May 20th, 2021 7:22:36 AM
Haemir continues juggling as he speaks: "There aren't many settlements within the plains. So far we've found a Stone Temple, n' an abandoned settlement called Rattledam. A few years ago we helped escort some people there n' helped start a rebuild. We named it 'New Rattledam'. Must confess I'm itching to see how it's doing! It's about a week's sail"... ---
(This time he concentrates (using his 'Guide' ability for a +2): Sleight of hand 11 - still not terrible).
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert) | AC 19 | CMD 19 | 48/48 HP | Thursday May 20th, 2021 4:06:15 PM "That sounds like a good idea. I imagine that settlements are quite prone to failure in such dangerous lands." Stroking his beard, he looks off in the distance thoughtfully. "Are there any supplies or such things we should try to bring them? Or perhaps try to establish a trading route between this area and the settlement?"
OOC Would drunkenness/hangover count as a disease?
'Lil - (Carl) - 50/50 HP - AC 21/14/19 - CMD 17Spells Thursday May 20th, 2021 5:56:58 PM Finally, thinks 'Lil to herself. She plays it cool, though.

Hear Ye Hear Ye!
I'm starting a Woldian recruitment blitz to fill what looks to be 10 spots. We have 2 new games starting which accounts for 6 of the openings. The other 4 are in existing non-veteran games. The two new games will be called:
Bearclaw Keep and Heranmar.
The icons for these are already up on in the Career Games section, but the links just go to the LnB until the games begin. [THANKS ROB FOR DESIGNING THOSE!!!]
I want to start with recruiting from 1) you good people and 2) inactive players. SO!!! If you have a friend [someone that still talks to you] talk to them and see if they want to play! All they have to do to start the progress is to email me. [gericko@gmail.com].
I am going to send out some emails starting tonight to former players so I do not know whether this push will fill us up quickly or not. :) Better to play it on the safe side and talk to your friends immediately!
Enjoy your evening and the weekend AND talking to your friends about joining us!

Herbert Bramblerose (Bill Soucy) Thursday May 20th, 2021 10:18:01 PM I'd like to help, in any way I can! Besides, there's a big, wide world out there to see...and I want to see all of it! Herbert says with his usual exuberance.
DM Shane - The Map Thursday May 20th, 2021 11:20:50 PM Herbert finds Haemir's trick to be quite to his liking. but has questions about the land in which they will be traveling.
Haemir Juggles and is glad to answer Herberts questions.
Rurik speaks with dwarven pragmatism about survival in a wild place. blunt, but no one can deny the truth of his words.
Lil is ready to get back to the ship and get going!
Thorondir cannot recall "cloud city" other than hearing it before he passed out. One of the Gnomes laying on the floor helps him out. Ah! Cloud City. it's in the Continent of Yrth. a floating city! A city in the Air! I' have always wanted to visit and perhaps...yes!...live there.
Sol This Gnomes under ware is too tight.
The crews get around, vestments are exchanged and various hangover cures are tried until a little after noon folk feel good enough to make the trek down to the boat.

Haemir will quickly divert to one of the shops to buy a replacement scroll (for the one used during his spontaneous performance). Then off to the Maiden.
To Herbert: "Well Master Bramblerose it is indeed a vast land, come explore with us". To Rurik: "Our first job was to find this city. It may sound strange but the Plains kind of shifted a while back n' even cities moved! I think they called it the great migration, but having re-found it now - establishing a trade route is possible".
Haemir smiles at Sol: "The problem is we all say we will never drink again after a hang-over, yet"...
"You guys will love our ship. Try not to fall overboard though! There will be a 20-30 feet drop n' a hard landing. Plus some of the grass is as sharp as glass so.. Oh did we tell you? The Maiden drifts across the top of the grass" he says with a proud grin.

Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Friday May 21st, 2021 4:24:44 PM
At some point, Akuno had to have woken up. She's in a giant floating disk, which she obviously had to cast, and is covered in pillows and ice packs created by her Rose's Temp Control spell. An unseen servant pulls her tiny magical chariot forward until it hits a wall of the above decks cabin. Being mindless, it just runs into the barrier over and over again.
The jolt is small, barely noticeable, but its enough to elicit a yowl and a hiss from Akuno. "Stupid servant!" She rolls onto her back, face covered with a pillow. "Lil'.", she whispers. "Come closer and hear my final will and testament. I bequeath it all to you, just promise to wear the dress on page forty to my funeral."
A small arm weakly waves a book about, the page doesn't even have a dress. Instead, its got rather revealing undergarments, designed for sleeping cool in the summertime.
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill Soucy) Friday May 21st, 2021 11:29:23 PM
Herbert starts dancing a jaunty little jig, excited about exploring the world in this magnificent boat and a party of stalwart adventurers, and is honored to be welcomed by them. Then he trips and falls on his bum.
Back to the Ship (DM Cayzle) Saturday May 22nd, 2021 12:17:34 AM
The trek from the gnomish city back to the edge of the plains takes most of a day, on a track that passes through rocky terrain laced with snow and ice, until, like a volcanic island meeting the sandy shore, you arrive at the plains.
Walking toward your ship, Thorondir and 'Lil chat while Sol nurses his aching head.
Akuno suffers the aftereffects too, in her own inimitable way.
Haemir tries to prepare Rurik and Herbert for the experience to come, but his words fail to do justice.
At last you see the Sargrass Plains. The tall grasses undulate in the dry wind, and the analogy to ocean waves is a good one. So too, the druidwood ship floats on the grasses, a sailing vessel designed to sail without a body of water.
[OOC: Please, my friends, do give our two new players a tour of the ship, and introduce them to the crew!]
Soon it is time to cast off!
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 Sunday May 23rd, 2021 4:12:13 PM
(OOC Haemir is discreet about being a witch). Before leaving the city he hires a room and talks to his New Rattledam coven member through his cauldron and enquires what stuff/supplies the settlement needs. The party has 1,490 gold (and all we need), so he'll suggest a few things he 'thinks' will trade well and happily donate his share. Depending on what funds are raised he will arrange for a delivery and fill up the cargo space as much as possible, suggesting any profit goes back in to the party pool.
On the way to the Maiden... "Three years ago a few of us were hired by a Duke in Hook City to come here n' tame the wilds for him n' set up a base of operations. Several ships set off but we lost one when it sunk in a mist. After we arrived however, people started filtering in, sometimes overland, n' of course we met people along the way. We also found a ruins that used to be a settlement called Rattledam. It had been protected somehow from the grasses by a dome. The dome was gone, but some of the structures where still there, so we figured it was as good a place as any, if not better to create this base. Construction started n' we went in search of some druid wood to make The Maiden. Eventually found some, but we also found a second settlement - a Stone Temple where some monks live n' we settled there whilst she was built. 28 months it took. So, we haven't seen New Rattledam in three years n' I'm quite excited to see how it's doing"! ---
(As for the Maiden - here is everything we know so far. Refs: the only dimension I have seen was 20 x 20 ft, but that wouldn't fit the 14 people on and 5 tonnes of cargo, so maybe that was the druid wood at the base. Any thoughts on size?).
Thorondir (KellyB) -- AC 18/14/14 -- HP: 39/39 -- Aewen: AC 14 -- HP 16/16 Monday May 24th, 2021 12:22:16 PM
Getting back to the Maiden Thorondir calls for Aewen. A golden eagle flies down and lands on the ships railing next to him. "This is Aewen, she is my friend and companion. She is also an excellent scout, and flies above the ship on occasion."
He gestures for Rurick and Herbert to follow him. "Over here is my chortle berry bush, please don't pick the berries. I use them to make goodberries, which provide a whole meal and healing for those that eat them. Ah, here he is. This is Talpid, my mole friend. He lives in the pot beneath the bush. He is excellent at sensing tremors, and is just a good guy."
Thorondir seems very proud of his berry bush and his friends.
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert) | AC 19 | CMD 19 | 48/48 HP | Monday May 24th, 2021 1:57:54 PM
Nodding along to Haemir's explanation, Rurik looks around the ship, marveling in the craftsmanship of the wood and the spaciousness of the vessel.
"It is good that people are reclaiming the wild lands, I have some experience with that myself. Albeit deep in long forgotten caves and tunnels, the creatures lurking there and challenges faced were just as dangerous as any here."
Turning to Thorondir and gesturing to the ship, he continues "This is quite an impressive ship, especially so far inland. I am not used to such....luxurious accommodations, particularly while travelling. Nor to so many tamed beast either." He squats down, looking at Talpid in his pot
Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Monday May 24th, 2021 4:44:39 PM
Akuno watches Rurik on his free tour of the ship. She keeps an eye on the bear-boy, and scribbling small notes in her picture of book of fancy things. She keeps flipping back to a red sou'wester hat and a smart jacket of blue twill with yellow fasteners. Her book called it, "The Paddington."
"Cute.". she says. Then she tucks it away and joins in to the new person tour. "If either of you newbies need anything, let me know. I'll get my people on it. Now that your all here, I'm not exactly the green horn anymore." She's got a challenging look in her eyes, even though the statement is a bit absurd. Even for a beastfolk, Akuno is pretty young looking.
Ruriks underwear has probably seen more adventure than she has.
Elijah "Sol" Solomon (Daniel) HP:36/36 AC/T/FF:15/11/10 - CMD:15 Active Spells: Mage Armour Monday May 24th, 2021 5:56:49 PM
Sol, still nursing a hangover head, remains somewhat quiet, but still does his best to smile as he normally does, though it's not as bright and seems to be twinged with pain.
"I have not felt this bad in a very long time... but getting underway would do plenty to life my spirits. Where are we going to now?"
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill Soucy) Monday May 24th, 2021 9:33:27 PM
Herbert's honey brown eyes grow wide at all the new sights. Oh my stars and garters, but she is lovely!, Herbert whispers. I know that I have not seen a lot in my young life, but this is glorious! I cannot wait to help the helpless, home the homeless, feed the feedless and save the saveless! Herbert draws his blade and strikes a heroic pose, I swear on my mother's paws, Evil, the Sentinels will tree you but good!
DM Shane - The Map Monday May 24th, 2021 11:20:16 PM Haemir gives a pretty good rundown of the events for the past 3 years. (yes the ship is 20 x20 x20. it's got two decks plus the hold so it's actually got about 60' of on-board space. it's still a tiny ship but it can hold the cargo and people. folk are just really really friendly with each other on it.)
Thorondir introduces the new hires to his garden and menagerie
Rurik seems quite enamored with the tiny ship. he is right though. the craftsmanship on it is superb from a usability perspective, but a bit rough from a pure esthetic viewpoint.
Sol finds the conversation is hard when your head hurts. but like the trooper he is he proves that just because you are miserable does not mean you cannot be pleasant.
Akuno welcomes the new guys onto the ship as only she is able.
The rest of the crew introduce themselves.
Donald 1st-Mate - a competent but a bit rough. not above thumping a head to get things done.
Thomas XO/ships pilot - smart, educated, but also a bit rough. cusses like a sailor.
Randy Sailing master/ships carpenter - older, salty, quiet, has a sneaky sense of humor.
Bob ships surgeon/cook - called 'Bones' by the crew, good with a knife, really outgoing guy, totally unaffected by gore. but runs a clean kitchen and operating room.
Lance Chief Boatswain - a decent half-orc who knows rope like you would not believe.
Padre ABS Bosuns mate - loves to talk, good at it. Can climb rigging like a monkey
Mark ABS carpenters apprentice - big-bearded, lots of scars, does not drink on the boat.
Lucas ABS - a.k.a. 'the kid', still a really good sailor.
Tim ABS/Ships Marine - a good sailor, retired Mailed Fist mercenary, bloody-minded, works all conversations back around to some form of combat. really talented at doing it though…
The ship heads off toward New Rattledamn. the sun is warm and the dry wind from the sargrass keep you cool till the sweat drys. You are on your way. adventure awaits.
'Lil - (Carl) - 50/50 HP - AC 21/14/19 - CMD 17Spells Tuesday May 25th, 2021 1:45:07 AM
'Lil spends most of the trip above deck, just enjoying the peace.

OOC: Sorry, really rough few days that came outta no where.
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert) | AC 19 | CMD 19 | 48/48 HP | Tuesday May 25th, 2021 2:06:53 PM
Rurik settles in to his accommodations easily, accustomed to sleeping in strange places. He's just thankful to have a proper bed! He gets to know the other party members, and the crew of the ship, but feels a little uncomfortable around Akuno, her brash nature clashing with his more reserved personality, but remains polite and calm regardless.
He spends much of his time meditating, both to simply clear his mind of distractions and to think about his duties. A stranger in a strange land, he hopes that he is strong enough to meet whatever challenges the world places before him, and that he is able to remain unyielding to the forces of evil.
To that end he ensures that both his equipment and body are in top shape, spending a large amount of time polishing and sharpening his gear, and making sure that not only is it serviceable but it is pristine. After all, a knight is supposed to serve as a grand beacon of hope, and he could hardly be that in battered rusty armor. He also spends much time exercising himself, both through basic workouts and practicing his sword forms (although he ensures he is taking proper precautions when there are others nearby).
"I must be strong to carry out my duty. To do my duty is the path to honor. And my honor is my life."
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 Tuesday May 25th, 2021 4:47:17 PM
With the wind in his hair and the gentle hiss of the grass, Haemir's face seems more relaxed and he looks younger.
At some point: "There's a couple of things you should know. Water is your enemy as well as your friend in the plains. If you were to openly drink from your waterskin you'll attract monsters, they can smell it from miles away you see. Always carry a cloth when it's hot, which is always! Sweat is not as bad, but it's hot here. Dab it n' pocket the cloth if you perspire. So, we have a few bags with pocket dimensional spaces, the waterskin stays in there n' we use a long straw. Also just so you know, we put a condiment called Dhashalainn into tour food, it decreases the amount of water a person needs to drink. May not be important to those with the ability to create water, but very important to the people living here. Plus it makes you not need to let the water out as much. I think it's a bad thing. Makes life much easier". ---
(OOC: Monsters can sense water, but I made up the bit about sweat). :-)

(sorry typo) "don't think it's a bad thing".
Thorondir (KellyB) -- AC 18/14/14 -- HP: 39/39 -- Aewen: AC 14 -- HP 16/16 Tuesday May 25th, 2021 10:27:32 PM
It has been a while and Thorondir was almost killed by that monster. It is time to get back to his true self. He shape shifts into an eagle and he and Aewen fly high above the ship.
Herbert Bramblerose (Bill Soucy) Tuesday May 25th, 2021 10:48:46 PM
Herbert is inspired by the ship, crew, stories and just the feel of the breeze on his fur, and bursts into song... So blow the winds high-ho! A-roving we will go! We sail on the grasses with the lads and lasses to lands a-far away! New Rattledam, we come! Sending Evil on the run! We're the Sentinel Band, with a helping hand, across the Sargass Plain!
Akuno Neko (Ken) AC 22 / CMD 17 - 32/32 Hp Tuesday May 25th, 2021 11:44:08 PM
Akuno keeps mostly to Lil's company during the travel. From time to time she ventures out to remind the others that she exists.
DM Shane - The Map Wednesday May 26th, 2021 12:22:32 AM
sailing the Sargrass is an interesting experience. calming in a way. the sussurss of the grass as it bends away from the bottom of the boat to let it pass and the wind rubbing the stalks together. At times the random noise sounds like music. other times voices, but indistinct. It makes you think that if you were a little smarter, maybe a little wiser you could tease meaning out of the sounds. but it's always just barely past your understanding.
the crew really takes to Herbert. (they like to sing as well. so you'll fit right in). and they regale him with a song or their own! (see bottom of the post )
Lil relaxes in the sun,
Rurik proves to be a true Adept, meditating and ensuring his gear and body are up to snuff.
Thorondir Enjoys the sun as well, flying above the Maiden and letting the wind carry him.
Haemir warns the crew about playing loose with the water. a commodity so precious in the Sargrass that you will attract every creature within 5 miles if you spill it.
The ship sailes on. with Herbers ditty and then later the crew's song taking them into the evening.
March to Cambreath.
Axes flash, broadsword swing Shining armour's piercing ring Horses run with polished shield Fight Those devils till They Yield Midnight mare and blood red roan Fight to Keep this Land Your Own Sound the horn and call the cry How Many of Them Can We Make Die!
Follow orders as you're told Make Their Yellow Blood Run Cold Fight until you die or drop A Force Like Ours is Hard to Stop Close your mind to stress and pain Fight till You're No Longer Sane Let not one Cursed cur pass by How Many of Them Can We Make Die!
Guard your women and children well Send These Cowards Back to Hell We'll teach them the ways of war They Won't Come Here Any More Use your shield and use your head Fight till Every One is Dead Raise the flag up to the sky How Many of Them Can We Make Die!
Dawn has broke, the time has come Move Your Feet to a Marching Drum We'll win the war and pay the toll We'll Fight as One in Heart and Soul Midnight mare and blood red roan Fight to Keep this Land Your Own Sound the horn and call the cry How Many of Them Can We Make Die!
Axes flash, broadsword swing Shining armour's piercing ring Horses run with polished shield Fight Those devils till They Yield Midnight mare and blood red roan Fight to Keep this Land Your Own Sound the horn and call the cry How Many of Them Can We Make Die!
Haemir (Rich) AC:13 - HP:41/41 - CMD:15 | Fand: AC:23/27 - HP:49/49 - CMD:24 d20+10=13 ; d20+5=22 ; Wednesday May 26th, 2021 4:27:56 PM
As always, Haemir generally stays out of the crews way, only stepping in if his actions speed things up or if he sees something small that needs doing (like securing a rope) that may have been missed. He also sets time aside to help anyone who wishes to learn, or improve their sailing skills (Profession: Teaching:22).
When the Sargrass whispers Haemir (always) pauses and tilts his head, Having felt something when he'd been a tree for a day, the teasing was becoming unbearable. Spotting the two eagles (Thorondir and Aewen) circling the Maiden and occasionally landing in the eagles next (the magically reshaped mast) he relaxes. Haemir was well aware of his weakneses, he wasn't the sharpest at spotting things, so the duo's eyes-in-the-sky made him feel safer.
When the crew sing and the wind carries more of the Sargrass' own song, he has a moment of realisation: he wasn't wealthy, famous, or powerful, yet today he was more content than he'd felt in decades! After all the towns, cities, forests and beds he'd occupied - who would have guessed that he'd find peace sailing the plains?!
Maybe some of his contentment flows through his bond with Fand as she sighs, curls up and exposes her belly to the sun, her tongue-lolling out the corner of her mouth.
Elijah "Sol" Solomon (Daniel) HP:36/36 AC/T/FF:15/11/10 - CMD:15 Active Spells: Mage Armour Wednesday May 26th, 2021 6:08:01 PM
Sol avoids getting in anyone's way, as he always does, as his skills certainly don't lie in sailing, on any level. He does enjoy the song, and tries to write it down in his journal, to keep it for the future.
Thorondir (KellyB) -- AC 18/14/14 -- HP: 39/39 -- Aewen: AC 14 -- HP 16/16 Wednesday May 26th, 2021 9:41:44 PM
The music of the grasses is drowned out by the song of the crew. Thorondir doesn't mind singing, but he much prefers to listen to the sounds of nature. If only they could sing about things growing and blooming, new life coming into the Wold. Songs of death seem only to bring more death, perhaps he will try and teach them a song about new life. It wouldn't hurt to bring a bit more joy into this place.
Looking at Aewen, as they fly along brings his spirits back up. In fact, the higher he flies the higher his spirits. Perhaps that could be part of the song, something about the wind beneath his wings bringing him higher and higher. He will work on it, but it is good to fly.
Rurik Ironjaw (Robert) | AC 19 | CMD 19 | 48/48 HP | Wednesday May 26th, 2021 10:34:23 PM
Rurik's heart grows excited as they delve deeper into the wilds, yearning for chances to prove his value and earn honor. He knows, however, that the only true honor is that of protecting innocents, and as he looks out at the beautiful and deadly grass, he hopes for their own sake that few have the misfortune to end up here.

Fand plays with a ball of string patting it around and occasionally getting under foot. Till the wind catches it and it vanishies off in the distance. She gives it a longing look - it had been a good friendship while it lasted. Ball would be missed but never forgotten She shrugs and goes back to cleaning herself.
