Everyone gets 15,450 xp for the end of Chapter 3.

Bartomus works his way to the front and tries to get a word in.
Stohp offers to translate, which might be a bad idea.
Stock is not interested in a fight of words
Delia goes on overwatch.
Sid starts doing some fast talking.
Zanderallen does some berating and then shoves Malici to the front.
Ohen waits to see what happens.
Micah waits to see what happens.

Malici looks at once scared and confused.

The Lizard Folk are taken aback and those that can understand Draconic begin picking up whispers of "dread lord", "oppressor", "savior". And then one of the Lizard Folk see's Ohen point to him and whispers, "There's another.", more whispers, "he's different", "not the same".

The Drow look at Malici and you can see about 1/2 of them scowl and mutter in Underwoldian "half-breed", "Scum", and some of the non-scowlers proclaim "wasn't there a half-breed dragon that came through long ago?".

Up at the Customs House, the custom's official looks to Bartomus and says. "They both arrived at the same time and it seems both think they should have their goods cleared before the other."

Knowledge History 10, or Appraise 10 or Perception 10 Highlight to display spoiler: {You know that both races offer vastly different goods. The Drow have clothing and bolts of cloth, and the Lizardfolk have a variety of wood work and such. There is no way they would be competing.}

Malici begins to speak, "Um, well see here, this is all rather uncalled for." He's speaking in Common.
Perception 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {you note him reach into his pouch and pull out something, he starts rubbing whatever it is in his hand with his thumb.}

He straightens somewhat and turns to address the Lizard Folk, in Draconic, "Stop this foolishness. You sink to their level by standing and arguing in the street. Have some pride in yourself and your works. Would you let your past lead you into something you don't want?"
Diplomacy check 17 Maybe someone can help him out.

He then wheels and turns to the Drow, and begins to speak in Underwoldian. "Such fine and noble breeding, such raciest ways of thinking. For all your claims of leaving your, shall we say, more evil brethren behind when you came to the surface, you seem to have not strayed far from your past."
Diplomacy check 30 ooh, that seemed to hit the mark. I think that may be a bit much of bad cop though, anyone to try to play good cop?

Bartomus watched first the merchants and then the customs agent. He looked back and forth and realized that the goods were extremely different and would have different evaluators.

"Good Sir, isn't it the rule that different goods having different locations for their final destination here on the Float would have different customs officials that would undertake the evaluation for the proper duties owed to the Float? So it's right and proper that both arrivals be handled by your staff, right?"

He looked about with a big smile and caught site of Malici rubbing something in his hands and as the man started to speak, he didn't understand the language, but the tone seemed to be a bit harsher.

Bartomus smiled and winked at the Custom's Official, "here's your chance to be the hero and the good cop. Play along and assign each of them a warehouse and send clerks to both."

Sid will step slightly closer to the custom's man, "Look I know that normally you'd have to take them in in FIFO style, but these are some of the first trade relations with these groups and you know that can allow you special dispensation under the Scarlet Trade Act. We know the Council would want this handled quickly and professionally and we, the Silver Shields, will be happy to help in any way possible."

Stohp works with Malici to defuse the dispute. She says basically the same thing with both groups, "They're just merchants like you. I won't ask you to make friends, but neither should you let their presence ruin your day. Everyone's going through the same lines regardless of their race or origin." (diplomacy 28 for lizardfolk, 20 for drow to aid another.

"When the civilized resort to uncouth words and threats, we are all reminded why the Wold still needs hammers and axes.'...That's what my dad used to say when we'd get trade disputes growing up. Then he'd bring out this big hammer...really comically large...and lay it on the table one handed. 9 times out of 10 that would stop the commotion, especially if it weren't dwarves that were complaining."

It's not clear exactly who Stock is talking to, he's mostly just adding to the overall ruckus.

Zanderallen might not be able to speak Underwoldian but he's good enough at reading body language to guess at about what the drow are saying. He also picks up on the gist of Malici's response to them. So he turns his full efforts onto the lizardfolk with some gentle chiding in draconic, "Friends, are we really going to start a fight based off first impressions and old preconceptions? What if the Silver Shields had taken that approach when our paths first crossed? All of us then chose to look past our differences and open the door to the friendship developing today. I know things have been troubled recently but that's no excuse to start a fight with the first stranger you come across. Yes, these times are related to your ancient draconic overlords, but don't assume that all who may carry their blood hold their same intentions." He softens his stance but still stands in complete support of Malici.

Delia continues to watch the combat of words, fascinated as multiple of her new friends show great expertise at calming what looked like a riot. She releases the tension she was holding, pretty certain blows would not be needed to solve this problem.

Delia watches.
Ohen tries to look impressive to the Lizard Folk.

The Custom official brightens at Bartomus's suggestion but practically jumps for joy at Sid's mention of the Scarlet Trade Act. He pounces on the idea. "Oh I say, you think that applies here. OH JOY." He rushes into his office and appears with a stack of paperwork that he shoves at Sid and Bartomus. He begins flipping pages and pointing out, "Sign here, initial here, thumbprint here." He pauses to smile at Sid. "I'm so happy that you know your laws, sure proof to me that you are delegates at large right. I mean with your accomplishments it's pretty obvious. Should have seen it at once, but the Trade Act hasn't been used in oh, why at least 15 years or more." He continues to go through papers and requires your your as in you-all, or anyone in your official group signatures at the appropriate places.

While he's doing that the Lizard Folk leader and the Drow leader up by Bartomus and Sid eye each other and then the two of you. They both turn to the Customs official. "What exactly does this mean to us?' They both ask.

The Custom official beams at them. "Well to sum up, because there's really not time to fully explain, The Scarlet Trade Act states that business partners of an established agency, can forgo the customs inspections for contraband and any tariffs or embargoes on trade goods and that the established agency agrees to pay any fines and/or fees should anything be found later that would have been dealt with here." And with the final signature, he waves to all the Drow and Lizard Folk. "You are free to go. Please remember to keep all receipts to pay your taxes when you leave."

The Lizard Folk gather up their goods. They nod to Malici and Zanderallen and give a timid wave to the rest of the group. Not Ohen though, they refuse to make eye contact with him. They march off, probably on their way to the merchant level.

The Drow gather up their goods and grumble about. The female that appears to be in charge nods to all of you as she leads her group off to the merchant level.

Malici turns to the group. "Well that was really strange. I didn't think they had any contact with each other anymore."

Knowledge local 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {They don't really, Tanglefoot did protest about Drow delegates the last time they were here, but really they have not interacted with each other for centuries. It's almost like a knee jerk reaction. Which could only be overcome through long hard work.}

The docks are now pretty empty. What few gathered to watch the ruckus drifting back to their assigned tasks. As stated before, with the pirates eliminated everyone was anxious to get back to work. All the turtles are out hauling their cargoes, and all the fishing boats have left to go fishing.

There's your dragon boat, but you need at minimum 10 rowers to go not even half power (it takes 15 rowers per side and could hold more). You'd have to recruit some strong backs to go rowing.

There's also the rickety lizard folk craft, and there appears to be a couple of Lizard Folk sailor types working on the deck.

I'm going to assume everyone has made their purchases or does anyone still need to head to the Catacombs?

Stohp is able to confirm the drow and lizardfolk haven't interacted in centuries (knowledge 19). That doesn't mean people don't carry over old stories and grudges though. They should really get going before that third group causes more harm, so she uses her local knowledge (32) to know where to go to quickly round up a full party of rowers to crew the bigger, faster boat.

Delia wonders what mess Sid and Bart may have gotten them into. She wasn't sure she liked the looks of those drow or lizardfolk. But supposedly the Shields had made friends with both groups. And if it came to it, it wasn't her purse strings being pulled.

Ohen will find his father and talk to him about the trade situation. And yes Ohen's father is more like a traveling merchant bringing goods from one area to another area that needs it more.

1. A path needs to be built to the Beastfolk. Perhaps we can magically aid that once things calm down.

2. We have a longship. Can he help us crew it quickly? It would also be a good trading vessel.

3. The Beastfolk need goods to export. The most obvious one is food, and also lumber if they want to compete with the other town. Other things like dyes or medicines they can get from the forest would be good too.

I would propose to him that it would be long term lucrative and mutually beneficial if we were to take the initiative and magically and financially invest in the road and farmlands, and set up trade agreements on our own. We would also offer protection against threats once the Shields set up our communication network.

If he can come up with a plan, I will talk to my companions about funding it once we deal with the final threat.

Micah sighs in relief, proud to be apart of a group with such diverse expertise, and more than a little impressed the handling of the business matters by both Sid and Bartomus.

Anxious to get to their next objective, but not able to contribute anything at this point, Micah decides to accompany Stock.

Sighing Sid smiles at everyone meekly. "Last time there was potential for cross special trade throughout the area the Council made rules for this so tricky situations like this could be taken care of... but we weren't supposed the be the Trade Delegates Writ-Large." Sid pinches his nose as he thinks about the possible ramifications, "Just keep a tab for any damages they incur, down to the copper, because we'll be partially liable. I've got to hit the Catacombs. I'll see you in an hour." He goes to make his purchases and let Elly know about this.

"Hopefully they're all playing it above board with their trade goods. But if we end up on the hook for some trade tariffs to keep the peace I won't be too upset." He then turns to Malici and offers his hand, "Well said Malici. I hope I didn't make you too uncomfortable but I felt it was important for us to take a stand against prejudice wherever we find it. I hope the Float can be a place you would feel comfortable calling home if you wanted to."

Stohp goes looking for a crew for the dragon boat.
Stock goes to look up Tanglefoot, the Lizard Folk diplomat, about taking some gold.
Delia is unsure what to make of all this.
Ohen goes to look for his father, forgetting that the DM already told him his father was out of town, so the DM is not sure how he's communicating with him.
Micah goes with Stock.
Sid tells Ellie the news and heads to the catacombs.
Zanderallen offers Malici his hand.

Stohp goes to the various bars around town seeking able bodied seaman unable to find a place. Pickings are tough. But really all she needs are strong backs.
You need to traverse at least about 100 miles, if you want to land just south of that western river outlet.

So 3 days there, 3 days back, undetermined time waiting for you.
Pay for untrained hireling is 1sp a day, you need 30 rowers. Figure the cost. Also figure, do you trust them with the boat while you go into the forest.

You are taking them on an excursion so you will need to provide food and drink. With them doing hard physical labor I'd say you need to provide common or good meals, (3sp for common, or 5sp for good) x 30 rowers, x days = figure the cost.

Stock and Micah have no trouble finding Tanglefoot. He's busy overseeing the Lizard Folk setting up a shop. When broached about the recovered gold he stops and just stares at you open mouthed for a moment. Then he rushes forward and hugs both of you. "My good friends. You are amazing. We all believe in something greater than ourselves, even if it's just the blind forces of chance." He thanks you and goes with you down to the docks.

Ohen keeps looking but his father is not in town. The Drow had a lot of fabrics (actually spun spider silk) could they be in the market for some dyes from the Beast Folk. Can the Beast Folk make dyes, communication seems to be the key ingredient to moving forward. But I'll give you this, yes they can make some different dyes, from plants so they have 2 interesting greens, and a yellow.

Malici nods to Zanderallen. "Thank you. I have never really had a home." He looks over at the Lizard Folk ship.

Tanglefoot appears on the docks (with Stock and Micah?) he sees Malici and Zanderallen. You can see him stiffen momentarily and then shake it off and say, "No. We need to be better than this." He goes up to Malici. "It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past." He offers his hand to Malici. Malici is started but accepts it.

He then replies, "I feel that what you speak of involves the Drow as well. And though I am half Drow I cannot truly say I am of the Drow, for they rejected me when I once tried to live among them."

Tanglefoot replies, "It matters and it does not. Our people fought, and perhaps your father's actions were part of the reason for that fight. I cannot say. I know that the forest was a dangerous place and perhaps what was done was an attempt to appease the forest by getting rid of part of the non-plant life within it. We all do what we do for the same reason: because it seems like a good idea at the time."

He then goes to the ship captain and begins speaking and pointing toward the dragon boat.

"Psst Stohp - wonder if the Lizard Folk could use this dragon boat and share with us in the profits of its use? But, hey, if you can find strong hands willing to get paid a good wage, I am so willing to pay for that effort."

He looked about and realized that they may need provisions for a crew and for the Shields.

"How about while Stohp is finding us a crew, a few of us go visit the merchants and purchase the food and casks for a journey?"

As he turned, he felt a slight twing in his side and realized that one of his wounds was still a bit tender. He took a few moments and cured the tender spot.

"Hey, anyone know where Happy gets that honey mead?? We could utilize some of that on a journey right?"

With pickings slim Stohp is willing to pay extra to entice people to sign up. She also promises good meals to everyone involved. After all hiring them at base price wouldn't even cost 20 gold and even with the more expensive food it's chicken feed to her. (5s*30*6 for meals + 1.5s*30*6 for pay = 1,170 silver, or about 120 gold.)

Sid catches up to her to at some point out the lizardfolk might be willing to help. Stohp shrugs and agrees if the lizardfolk are willing to do so. They should probably pay the lizardfolk the same rate though, asking them to do it for free, especially while offering others above average rates, would be wrong.

Stock is always willing to talk with Tanglefoot. It reminds him of their sojourn inland previously where he quite enjoyed ripping his way through the underbrush.

"Micah - do you suppose your brother could help us find some retired guards? We could use some hands to keep an eye on the HQ these days. Let alone to keep an eye on the dragon boat if we're on walkabout."

Delia moves back with the others now that a vantage point is no longer needed. She looks over the dragon boat and asks, "Should we get some sailors to look over the mast and sails? Somebody kind of set them on fire."

"Worth a try," Micah responds to Stock. "It appears several are working different angles on the sailing front. Let us go secure our base." He then heads to Lukas' office to see if he has any recommendations for house sitters. As an after thought, he also asks if he may know of candidates for a crew for the dragon boat.

Bartomus offers to buy some supplies.
Stohp decides sailors are cheap and so is food.
Stock wonders about guards for the HQ and the dragon boat.
Zanderallen wants to get going.
Delia points out the mast and sail have been toasted.
Ohen offers to pay for repairs on the boat.
Micah agrees with Stock.

Repairing the boat would take several days, granted it would give a respite to the rowers, but the party feels that time would be better spent getting under way. AS A GM ASIDE, LAY IN A GOODLY AMOUNT OF EXTRA RATIONS AS YOU MAY BE IN THE JUNGLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

The 30 rowers are certainly a motley bunch. Half appear to be down on their luck longshore men, and the other half rejects from the brute squad. Most of them are in need of a shave, and all seem to need new clothes as what they have is a might threadbare. But they appear strong enough, if not bright enough to do the job.

Seeing the distraught state of the crew Stohp has rounded up Tanglefoot steps forward. "I may have a suggestion for you." He hurries over to the captain who is organizing his men to go load the gold. Shortly he comes back with two of the Lizard Folk. "This is Rapids and Shallows. They know their way around the boat and are trusted fellows. They can keep an eye on the crew for you."

As Stock and Micah go to see Lukas, they realize they may not need a guard on their HQ. The people of the Fence seem to be keeping an eye on things since Rodrigo's tragic death. You notice that there always appears to be two of the baker street irregulars stationed along the street, playing jacks, or other such games but always not really paying attention to the game and more keeping a lookout toward the HQ.

They do manage to find Lukas but he seems busy on the Merchant Level. "Sorry I can't really think of any good men. Since we had our cleaning of the house, we're a little short staffed and trying to recruit good men and women to fill some holes in the ranks."

You have your boat, and somewhat of a crew. Supplies are delivered. Malici concentrates and then points south by southwest. DM aside again. I advise staying close to shore so you can beach the boat at night or drop anchor near shore so that the crew can rest and you're not in the middle of the lake.

Stock speaks to the Shields as they prepare to give way, "Do you mind if I take the tiller? I kind of enjoyed it on the ride up to the Float and I've always been proud of my sense of direction. Now, I still won't be able to see much on account of my low center of gravity, as they say. Elsewise I can take a turn on the oars. After so many years of wood working, my hands feel like a gravel road bed and I would match my arms against any of these fine folk."

He nods a polite welcome to Rapids and Shallows and takes up his station.

Micah wishes Lukas the best decides to give him a brotherly hug in farewell and heads back to the docks.

He's happy to let Stock take any role he wishes and realizes a turn at the oars is exactly what he needs to work out some excess energy. He explains this to Rapids and Shallows and uses the opportunity to get to know his fellow rowers.

When Stock offered to navigate, Bartomus shrugged and looked over to the lizard folk and Zander. Delia's asking about a box made Bartomus laugh, and he chuckled even louder when Zander tossed in a line for a foot stool.

"Anyone want to just levitate the Dwarf about the deck for this one?" Bartomus asked his fellow Shields with a wink and a grin.

"Oh, Delia, here, this might be of help. Got it a while back, and taking the one we just found, but this could be of use for you. Makes you even wiser, I promise" He handed the headband he had been wearing over to the newcomer. Then he tied on the one from their Veggie fight. He also started the day with a new breast plate that was made from the hide of a dragon.

At first your efforts at rowing and driving go a bit askew. Turns out getting 30 people to row in sync is not as easy as you would think. Shallows looks about the boat and finds a drum and drums stick. He nods to Rapids who explains in broken common there will be 2 beats. 1 beat oar out of water and push forward. 2nd beat, oar in water and pull oar. For the first 2 hours it's really slow beat as everyone is getting used to it. But slowly it picks up. By the end of the day anyone pulling the oars knows they've done a day of hard physical labor.

Micah tries to engage the crew but almost at once realizes that the amount of alcohol on the breath's of those he's near does not bode well. After a few hours though they've sweated out the alcohol. But by then no one really has breath to waste talking.

Rapids approaches Zander and Stock. He shakes his head and quietly says, [b]"This crew rabble. Take much time to just get them to pull oars at 1/4 speed. Doubt we could make 1/2 speed for any length of time. However, fortune seems to favor you as you find a small current near the shore that helps you on your southern journey.

Malici keeps doing his zoning thing and is pretty much just standing apart from everyone and up in the bow. At the end of the second day he informs you that the direction he's getting is now due west. You are just north of a river that flows into Turtle Lake. It's pretty wide and might be possible to navigate. But you're not sure where on the red line (see map) the other dragon-heir might be. In any case you must beach the boat for the day. There is maybe 2 hours of light left.

The area is fairly secure. You find no wild life, the Crying Wood kept most creatures at bay for so long that few things have migrated to the area. A druid might think these woods are out of ecological balance and he or she would be right. Something may have to be done to bring in some fauna to go with the flora.

The men are weary but by now have worked all the toxins out of their systems. Still they are a rough side of a lump of coal right now. You are not sure if there are any diamonds among them. Bartomus is kept busy by a few of the men that seem overly complainy about their aches and pains. A couple of others keep asking about rum rations. For the most part though the crew just seem to exhausted to say much and accept their meal hungrily and quickly proceed into sleep.

The only predators that Stock can find are some small mouth bass near the shore. But they keep flitching away when Stock goes to the water's edge. Guess the fisherman of the Float have made them wary of human types.

Rapids feels the river could be navigable, especially with the shallow draft of the dragon boat. Worse case they would have to have the rowers switch positions and row in the opposite direction. It's actually not a bad boat for both shallow water and deeper water.

Malica takes another reading in the morning. (see yellow line). He notes that the position of the medallion has shifted slightly. This makes sense as Orcs are primarily a nocturnal creature. They are probably moving at night.

Since the only expressed opinions were to take the boat up stream you decide to travel up the river. As you enter the river you note the tree's rising sharply from the river bank. There's barely a bank without some sort of shrub, or weed infesting it. Also you can't see into the forest very far as they tree's are fairly thick along the water way. Probably long years of seeking a freshwater source has thickened the foliage in the area. The river

By the end of the third day you have reached the next line (black) in your journey. Malici takes another reading and points in a new direction (see the purple/blue line). In theory you now have a location. You also note that the orcs have been moving in a mostly northern march line since they left Cutter.

(Also which side of the river do you want to beach the boat? The river is about 500 feet wide with a main channel of about 80 feet in the center.)

Options.
1-they appear to be less than 10 miles from you. You could advance on them, but it's dark.
2-you could prepare for them to come to you, it's better than 75% they are headed this way, but it would be dark. On the plus side you could prepare for them somewhat.
3- Something totally original on your part.

"I think we need to be left on the west bank and probably the boat needs to be left on the east bank to keep the crew out of harm.

I'm a big fan of ambushes. BIG FAN! Any unfair advantage we can setup, we should take. That said, I'm not a big fan of fighting with my back to a river. Honestly not a good enough swimmer in case things go poorly. Perhaps Delia or Sid or even Bart in the form of some kind of wildlife could scout out this group's movement and that way maybe we can identify an ambush location a few hours ahead of them."

Okay I think we're in talking tactics mode so I'm just going to answer some things and let you plan.

1-Trees are pretty dense, you've been in this forest before. That's not to say they are a natural palisade, rather, range weapons are going to be limited. Limited line of sight, lots of cover.

2-Ambush, I'll give you choices to call out what you're looking for. ie, do you want the river at your back in the map, do you want the largest open space you can find (which ain't big), etc. You can name terrain features you might be looking for. Don't go crazy, some you may have to make yourself.

3-The boat's too big to hide. 75 feet long, 15 feet wide. You can't drag it up the shore into the tree's either.

4-Micah's suggestion to try and sneak up on them in the daylight. Historically you lot have not been the sneakiest bunch. It's possible to let them camp and then try to sneak or straight up assault with the Ride of the Valkyries playing in the background.

5-If you're going to go off sneaking you will need to make the following rolls....1)stealth, 2)survival to not loose your way, 3)perception

6-Malici will offer to help but his spells tend toward the massively destructive and can be a hazard to friend and foe. His partial spell list...

Malici answers Delia "I rather doubt it after all its been quite a while, decades since I lived within the confines of the forest. To my knowledge my father was slain about 2 decades ago. So it's unlikely anyone is going to know what the others may have been up to."

Actually the river is flowing from Turtle Lake toward the sea. So your up and down river are a little backwards. Also remember the river is about 500 feet wide with a main channel of about 80 feet in the center (which is half as wide as the Missouri River). It's not something that can be easily swum across. When the orcs hit it they are going to face 3 choices, 1 go up river looking for a place to ford it, 2 go down river looking for a place to ford it, 3 build some kind of raft, 4 go another direction.

The dragon boat as bait would probably be good, after all these guys have been in the forest close to a week now. They may be running low on supplies. However, getting to the boat may be a task for them. Or not, they may have spellcasters with them.

It might be better keeping the sailors nearby so that you can defend them if need be.

"If we could catch them camped along the river we would be able to make use of Micah's Water Walking spell to attack them from the side they wouldn't expect. It would also make our casters difficult to reach. Something I just remembered if we want to reverse course and try the night time assault. I do have the ability to cast Daylight. Delia nods to Bartomus to indicate she's ready to go, then to the rest of the group, "Regardless of how we end up attacking them, we need to do some recon. Remember, if Hawky comes shrieking back to y'all, we've been spotted and there's a lot of them."

Whenever Malici responds and the scouts are ready to go, Delia will cast longstrider (7hrs) to boost her forest terrain move speed to 50ft. She then pulls her hood up, tucks Hawky under her cloak, and melts into the shadows towards their foes, confident in her ability to find the orc camp.

Bartomus make your sneak and perception rolls.

Delia I checked and even if I roll a 20 no one in the horde is going to be able to spot you. I assume you are casing Darkvision on yourself so you can see in the night time forest, think rain forest for relative canopy cover. As Bartomus is a semi visible air elemental at best....here's what you see. Bartomus, without darkvision you are going to be very limited in what you can see unless you get very close.
Highlight to display spoiler: {There's one large orc in plate armor carrying a double headed axe. This orc is definitely a half breed with dragon ancestry. You're pretty sure you can mark him as the half-dragon. There appear to be two orcs dressed simply with cloaks, but are festooned with strange trinkets. There are 15 orcs all dressed in hide armor with lots of javelins and the typical orc falchion. However, you note that the hide orcs are moving fairly quietly, and rather quickly for an orc. Bartomus watched Malici point things out on the map and then changed into the wind. He got excited and raised into the sky making note of where he was starting from and where Malici had indicated he needed to go. Then in a rush of excitement, he was off flying, enjoying the stars, scanning the forests and such.

When he saw what he did, he gasped and made an effort to swing about heading back towards where he thought the ship should be.

Delia tries not to cringe at wind-Bart zipping openly through the air and not using clouds and tree cover to his advantage. She'll see him turn around and assume he's headed back to lot the group know what they're up against. She decides to watch a bit longer.

She will stay just on the edge of her 60' darkvision (and probably the orcs too) and ghost between the trees and shadows. She will try to figure out their hand signals and if they are continuing on in the direction that the Shields expect.

Bartomus returns rather noisily and reports what he has seen. There's one large orc in plate armor carrying a double headed axe. This orc is definitely a half breed with dragon ancestry. You're pretty sure you can mark him as the half-dragon. There appear to be two orcs dressed simply with cloaks, but are festooned with strange trinkets. There are 15 orcs all dressed in hide armor with lots of javelins and the typical orc falchion. However, you note that the hide orcs are moving fairly quietly, and rather quickly for an orc. They turn west and sort of follow the river for 1 hour before stopping and building camp. You know you are about 10 miles west of the where you left the party on the river.}

She attaches it to Hawky and directs him to Deliver it upriver to Zanderallen.

She will edge closer to the orc camp again and settle down to watch them.

Malici shakes his head at Bartimus's question. "Stock is right I could not sense any of the other medallion pieces when I only had one piece myself. I'm hoping that still holds true."

Zanderallen suggests (if I'm understanding correctly) taking the boat down stream, to the other side of the river and then charging across using water walk. Ohen is for the plan. Malici points out, "I don't know if you noticed but the oars on this boat aren't exactly quiet. There's a lot of wood on wood rubbing and definitely the splash of the oars lifting and dropping in the water."

There's a point of when exactly was the hawk sent..."Once the orcs hit the river and chose a direction to follow, Delia will back off for a moment to scribble down a quick note " AS a reminder that was 2 hours before dawn, they walked 2 more hours before making camp. So was the hawk sent when the orcs turned, or was it sent once they made camp? I ask because in the same long slightly grammatically conjunctioned sentence Delia then says " ... she will again stay and try to discern their watch patterns and find any weaknesses. " Which implies that she sent the hawk after they made camp. Kinda need to know what Delia was thinking because that will affect when the party can get there and if they really know where there is.

Malici reminds Stohp "The medallion is proofed against all scrying and divination spells. I'm pretty sure that extends to the person holding the medallion. I'm not sure how far around the person holding the medallion the shielding extends. But also, there doesn't appear to be any reason for the orcs to know that they are under threat. They went through Cutter and headed out with no opposition."

Hawky will return to the spot I sent him from, which is about 150 ft away from the orcs on watch, which I'm hoping with the density of this forest, will keep him out of sight.
Delia tries to keep about 90 ft away from the orcs on watch, which should still have a lot of cover between her and them.

I'm assuming with the amount of times Delia and Hawky have done this, they've figured out how to subtly reconnect with silent signals. And even with the trees I think I still saw him

Malici will accompany you and will periodically check the medallion to try to get a sense of how far inland the orcs are. Alas, the river bank is not straight and it bends this way and that, albeit slowly. Another sad thing for our marching heroes....the river bank is thick with vegetation. You can wade in water or walk along slightly inside the tree line.

How slowly and carefully do you intend to walk? Are you being stealthy because that will make you move at half speed and require rolls to be made.

Meanwhile Orcs on guard duty....
Delia notes that the Orcs appear not to have noticed anything. Delia has not rested since the previous night, So you were awake all day on the boat, then you've spent the night tracking and keeping tabs on the Orcs, day is now creeping along... She does spot Hawky in a branch a ways back.

Bartomus had dozed off and woke up looking about confused. It wasn't his watch shift, but he took a moment stretched and went to deal with some necessities. When he returned, he looked about to those on the watch. "Sorry folks, was in my own little world apparently. Sure thing, I can be one of wind folk again. Or, make me a bird, what? Kinda like the wind folk though, they move quickly. "

Leading the main group along the North side of the river, Zander nods at Bart's suggestion, "Stay a couple hundred feet in front of on the South Bank. Once you spot the camp come back and tell us. We'll then circle a little further into the woods so we can't be seen or heard until we're directly across from their camp. The party marches....

Then they spy Hawky sitting on a low branch of a tree by the river. Alas, they are still 2000 feet back from where the orc camp is located. Hawky seems content to glide from branch to branch. It's taken you several hours to cover the 10 miles to get here. Let's call it 5 hours, so it's a little before noon, but not much.

Bartomus makes forays south across the river. At last he comes across the orc camp. He misses spotting Delia, and his swirling mass blows against the current breezes (sorry that's the result of your stealth role). The orcs on guard duty (the red ones) make a perception check....14 and 18. They can quite clearly hear something flitting about in the tree tops. They starting talking in orc....which not one of the scouts understands.

Bartomus heads back to tell the others where camp is located. I've placed you on the map but I was not going to add in 500 feet of river to get to the other bank. It will take you a little over 4 rounds (assuming everyone can move 30 feet normally) to cross the river. I've put you on the map assuming 3 rounds have passed since you cast the water walk spell after Bartomus's return.

Cast buff spells and etc.

Maliki will cast fly on himself so you don't need to water walk him.

He turned around facing the shore so he could watch or try to watch things in the distance. He began casting to make his skin as hard as that spider metal thingy was and also thought about it and added to his strength like one of the bull Taurs about the Float.

Greetings Woldians!

We have TWO games that have achieved Level 20 and just retired over the weekend! So in our usual tradition, we're holding a celebration for the next few days on the Giggling Ghost board!

Folks are already beginning to gather. We expect everyone to join in and post daily on the GG board, but all are excused from posting in their "regular career game" through Wednesday at least. :) It doesn't mean you can't post, just that you don't have to.

DMs if you're in combat, feel free to just post a "pause until after Wednesday" if you'd like, or you can do that anyway. These celebrations are important as both of these games have players who have been working for at least 9 years to achieve this retirement for their PCs.

Actually from the time the initial water walk spell was cast, it's now been probably around 5 rounds, assuming you cast it and then started across the water.

Bart moves forward (above a tree means 60 foot high).

Delia sneaks?at full/double move? what feat is allowing you to do that, cause I'm a no seeing it on your sheet? "You can move up to half your normal speed and use Stealth at no penalty. When moving at a speed greater than half but less than your normal speed, you take a –5 penalty."

Micah grins at Stock's answer and casts air walk on his bellicose friend, tending to his own defense despite being under the effect of the sanctuary spell. He then moves to a more central position, now counting on his spell to protect him from the orcs threatening him.

Stohp runs up....unfortunately you say you move to AO/AP 24/25 next to the dragon orc, the dragon orc is at V32, O is Ohen.
Bartomus whirlwinds What size air elemental are you? I currently have you occupying large space, not sure if you are medium or huge, your header doesn't give me an indicaiton, nor do you have any sort of indications in your text field.
Stock attacks the orcs (I'm assuming you start with #6, it takes all 4 hits to put him down, and I admit the forth hit was grand overkill because at that point he had less than 10 hp but was still alive).
Micah casts on Stock and moves.
Delia positions herself and readies an attack....and shoots W1.
Ohen shifts and does some casting, target is 20 feet up, and he's barely in the range if you go with the 50 foot radius effect circle thing, I'm going to say he's just out of range of the sphere spell, the blindness does reach him...unfortunately once he casts he identifies himself to the orcs with readied actions and instructions to kill the caster.
Zanderallen goes on the warpath.

Stohp moves up and successfully grapples 15.Although what you're going to do with him I don't know, because they are not designed to surrender.
Micah scans the battlefield. Both the witches are 20 feet high
Stock moves in on W2 I track 35 feet horizontal and 20 foot vertical, you can make it easy. and gives him such a whack.
Bartomus moves away and then casts some healing on himself cause casting next to someone provokes
Zanderallen smacks on the half dragon, and can tell he's hurting him. Certainly didn't help that he was hit by a nasty double fireball.
Ohen exits the cloudkill spell and casts a nasty spell at W2.
Delia moves away, but still provokes an AOO, Also AN32 is occupied space, you can't go there. putting you at AP33 so you're not right next to the grappled orc. Holding action, as he leaves her sight she fires, but he was not casting yet so...

If he was thinking clearly, Stock would be confused by three things. First: why did that orc just turn into a sloth? Second: why can that sloth fly? Third: why is that sloth looking at me like that? Micah watches as Ohen and Stock deal with the enemies near them. Not being able to see how Zanderallen is faring, but noting that his friends on this side of the cloud are taking some damage, he decides to provide them some healing.

"Ezer," Micah addresses his shield, "If you please, I would like the option of enhanced movement." The shield responds by casting expeditious retreat on Micah.

The priest then moves to get in range of Bartomus, walking around orc 10 counting on his spell to protect him. Once close enough to the druid, Micah selectively channels healing energy, excluding any of his wounded foes. [i][I think none are wounded, but Micah can select out four.][i]

Bartomus changed back into his regular taur self and felt a burst of warmth course through him and realized that someone had healed him. He turned about trying to see who it might have been, but instead saw an orc heading for Stohp.

He pulled out his potion drinking it and ran to where he had that orc (Orc12) and another in a perfect line (Orc15).

He smiled and belched forth lightning in a straight bright line.

Zanderallen momentarily glares back at the shaman as he dips, twists, parries, and blocks the hail of incoming blows. Side stepping some, catching others with his sword and shield, and angling himself to let others yet be deflected by the plates of his armor. Knowing his defenses will only hold for so long against so many foes he continues bolstering himself. He growls back a challenge to the Orc, "Looks like you have some sissy mages of your own. If you want these bones you're going to have to do better than that!"

The pain of the orc's swing quickly recedes as the divine energy of Micah's channel soothes it away. She quickly assesses the consequences of keeping out her bow versus her sword and decides it's probably worth it to take an AoO for the increased damage.
