Character creation / Prior to start of game play

DM Steve
Saturday June 5th, 2021 4:08:19 PM

The Bearclaw Keep page is now available. Please make a post to confirm you have the needed permissions. Everything is out of character (OOC) for now. (Once game play starts, you will be expected to make your posts in character and OOC posts will be discouraged.)

At the bottom of this page is a link to the wiki page for the campaign (http://www.woldiangames.com/Woldipedia/index.php/Bearclaw_Keep). All that is there are the moment is a generic set of suggested items to complete. You are all experienced players -- be thinking about what else you might find useful. There are:
* Links to the game page and pertinent Woldipedia pages
* Places to record current events, current and past characters, and important NPCs
* Standard marching orders and watches
Things to consider might be:
* Links to party treasure, experience, or player's notes

If anyone would like to be the game ADM, let me and John know.

Character Creation follows standard Wold rules. The extent that you want to involve each other in character ideas is up to you, but everyone gets to build what they want and play what they expect to enjoy. So if you have a suggestion for how someone can improve their character or a concern that someone's choice will affect yours, please express yourself once on the matter.

Anyone have any ideas yet of what they want to run? Me personally, some sort of magic user. Unless we need a healer, then I'd go that route.

@Shawn. A reminder about the Woldian character class selection principle: Pick what you want to play for the long haul. Let the DM worry about party balance.

A spell caster most likely. Is there any soft start date we're looking at?

We're hoping to finish all character sheets by July 4.

Torryn huffed out a sigh. It wasn't as easy as it looked. Clearly not all sticks were the same. She held it by one end and causally tossed it up so that it spun a full circle. She caught it again.
"Quit stalling, Girl." Agratha admonished. The little, old Halfling hadn't moved from the wooden stump upon which she was perched.
Torryn gave a noncommittal snort and then drew back her arm. She hurled the stick (To Hit: 12+4=16). It struck true! It was a good thing that tree trunks weren't noted for their elusive qualities.

Hey everyone! Just dropping in to say hi and see how things were progressing. :)

Feel free to start posting Out of Character at will until the game starts. Ask questions of DMs Steve and John. Email me if you wish with a question. I guess I'm the resident expert at Woldian lore and I developed the Windhorn Hamlet area and did the update to the article on Woldipedia about the town. So if I can help with character background let me know. :)

Players, if you notice that someone hasn't made it here yet, email and ask them to start posting. We don't want to lose a player due to an unasked question or losing interest in things before the game begins.

Have a great day!

Greetings Woldians!

We have TWO games that have achieved Level 20 and just retired over the weekend! So in our usual tradition, we're holding a celebration for the next few days on the Giggling Ghost board!

Folks are already beginning to gather. We expect everyone to join in and post daily on the GG board, but all are excused from posting in their "regular career game" through Wednesday at least. :) It doesn't mean you can't post, just that you don't have to.

DMs if you're in combat, feel free to just post a "pause until after Wednesday" if you'd like, or you can do that anyway. These celebrations are important as both of these games have players who have been working for at least 9 years to achieve this retirement for their PCs.

--DMs may take the role of an NPC or 2 if they wish and hand out dishes, create action, help out, etc.
--Anyone may take the stage and tell a story or sing a song.
--Post as many times a day as you'd like on the Giggling Ghost board.

Entertain yourselves and enjoy!

Yes you may go there now and post.
Yes you should go there now and post.
What are you waiting for?
Yes, now is fine.
Are you still reading this? Why?

[New Players to the Wold are double welcome!]

Loryn was not quite sure what to make of the Dwarf across the way. Sure he was as tall and wide as a dwarf. Certainly had the face to be one, but he wasn't wearing an entire forge. Why he looked down right woodsy

Mortimer Margrave (Stephen Fleming)
Tuesday July 6th, 2021 11:24:41 AM

Mortimer Margrave is a tall, lanky and somewhat gaunt human. Pale in complexion, he stays mostly covered during the day. He tends to sunburn easily. He is normally dressed in threadbare hand-me-downs from the charity of good hearted members of the town. He often supplements his wardrobe, and other needs, with a five-finger discount (when he needs to). He can often be found at the local pub filling his pint from the "All Sorts" barrel.

A local priestess allows him to keep a small bed in the corner of the cemetery tool shed, where he works as a grave digger and grounds keeper during the day.

(Still working on his character sheet. He's a human sorcerer, though he doesn't fully know or understand the latter.)

Ash Macfarlane (Shawn R)
Wednesday July 7th, 2021 9:02:00 AM

Ash Macfarlane is a tall, skinny man dressed in nicer clothes. His jet black hair and grayish, blue eyes are accompanied by a huge smile, and a bent, broken nose.

He has no weapon upon him, but he doesn't look to be afraid of something happening to him.

Grund sits back enjoying a stout ale. He notices the odd group of travelers and the gnome that keeps eyeing him. "Hey gnome. Somethin' seem strange ta you? I got something on me?" He says brushing off his face and clothes. As he does a cloud of dust bellows out from him and the smell of earth fills the area around him. "Names Grund Fyrbend, but most around here just call me Mole."

Torrynashkabbeth
Wednesday July 7th, 2021 11:54:27 AM

A pretty, young girl occasionally flits from table to table with many eyes noting her progress. Sometimes she conveys drinks. Sometimes it seems it’s just to chat. Most know Torryn: undoubtedly one of the prettiest girls in the village and quite possibly its finest dancer. The silver haired beauty today wears practical, brown, over-the-knee boots. These are paired with a high cut, pale green dress that has gold coloured leaves embroidered around the hem. It’s a well known fact that Torryn is unafraid to flash more than a little flesh, but has the looks to carry off such daring fashion statements.

As she passes to and fro, the lights catch that very long, wavy and lustrous hair to reveal flashes of icy blue. Her honey-coloured flesh only serves to make her hair seem to shine the brighter. She has a ready, winning smile that she happily favours to one and all. Her eyes though, being a stormy blue, speak of mischief.

Naturally, within the hostelry she carries no weapons, other than her beguiling looks. Most know Torryn’s parents and it is no secret that she is a Half-Elf.

Loryn Glitterfall Dan K
Wednesday July 7th, 2021 3:17:52 PM

Loryn's bushy white eyebrows arch a bit at the address from the dwarf, "Up nope, I think you got it." he vague gestures at the dwarf and then to his own general self. "You had just a bit of something there." The gnome hops down and extends a hand, "Loryn Glitterfall, Pleasure to meet you Mole."

The cloud of dirt brings a smile to Loryn face, "You know, my family says there is Shaitan blood in our family tree. you know, Earth genie's, anyway my grand paps used to tell tales of such about his great great grands or some such. Me, I don't know about that, but I do know that i've always felt pretty at home on it. Of course you might say that is because i'm a gnome and all, and aint we all pretty at home under on right with the earth and that may be pretty...."

Loryn pauses suddenly , "Sorry, sometimes my mouth keeps going." Loryn looks across and spies Torryn and just watches her for a few moments and then settls back to his conversation with Mole

Mortimer Margrave (Stephen Fleming)
Wednesday July 7th, 2021 4:08:46 PM

The skinny, pale fellow from the dark corner of the room lifts his head from his table. "Wha?," he mutters. "I thought I err, left you sod boxers back at the yard." His eyes slowly roll open and try to focus. After a careful scan of the room he apologizes. "Ohh pardons all around, lads ... don't mind this poor scrub. I'm uh death's head on a mop-stick, I am." His head falls back to the table with a thud.

Torrynashkabbeth
Thursday July 8th, 2021 7:45:01 AM

All smiles, Torryn almost seems to skip across the floor to Mortimer’s side.

“Are you unwell?” She enquires. “You don’t look very well.” The latter probably didn’t help, but the words were out before she’d even considered them. The man seemed vaguely familiar, but only vaguely. She wasn’t a regular visitor to ‘town’, so didn’t know everyone, like so many other girls in Bearclaw Keep seemed to – or rather, made it their business to. Likely though, he’d know her. Being the best dancer did garner a certain amount of notoriety.

Loryn Glitterfall Dan K
Friday July 9th, 2021 3:39:43 PM

Loryn was relatively new to Windhorn, having come recently from Floating City. The Float was nice enough and all, plenty of opportunity for Loryn to work t his craft and love of cooking, but it was so tight had so many people. more than that though, Loryn felt a certain call to adventure, to experience the greater Wold and not simply live a simple normal life. Grog's was quickly becoming one of his favorite spots, though cooking at Hearthfire Inn, even as a side chef, was wonderful, but Grog's had that flair of something extraordinary could happen any day and Loryn would be there when it did

Try this again

Mortimer Margrave (Stephen F.) - HP: 8/8. AC:13
Tuesday July 13th, 2021 12:30:21 AM

"Wha is this?" Mortimer turns his head toward the young woman and he opens his eyes. "A little bird has lit upon my shoulder?" Not used to getting positive attention, he asks, "You come here to peck my eyes out, little bird?"

He rubs his eyes and they begin to focus, he then exclaims, "Sorry love, I'm not havin' a good day." He opens his hand and sets a very old, rusty locket on the table. "I was diggin' a grave for this old cobber and the hole was already occupied, unmarked, ya see. Very upsetting, it is, disturbing one's peace. She begged me to take it. The dead want no memento from their lives, not one bit! So I unburdened the poor, ole lass."

The rusty locket, barely hanging together and utterly worthless, appears to have a lock of a child's hair within it.

Having a better look at the young, drunken fellow, it's obvious now that he is the town's gravedigger.

Torrynashkabbeth
Tuesday July 13th, 2021 7:23:20 AM

"oh." Torryn replied, not at all what else to say to the strange man. She wasn't sure that she believed him - about the dead and their possessions. Weren't ghosts tied to a place or something significant in their lives? She didn't know. She wasn't sure that she wanted to know. Still, the man did appear to be in his cups and drunks rarely told lies. After a moment, she smiled.
"Well, if it helps, I'm having a great day." She beamed delightedly and promptly moved on to wipe another table.
Torryn didn't come into 'town' that often; so this was a treat. Helping out in the tavern garnered her a few tips and, according to her father, kept her out of mischief whilst her and her mother sold their wonderfully crafted arrows in the market square.

Mortimer Margrave (Stephen F.) - HP: 8/8. AC:13

His eyes widen as he spit takes from befuddlement to her response.

"Glad to be of service, luv."

Torrynashkabbeth
Wednesday July 14th, 2021 1:21:54 PM

‘Luv’, He’d called her ‘Luv’. She stopped, turned and looked at him quizzically. How could possibly NOT know her. Sure, she didn’t visit often, but surely everyone knew that Torrynashkabbeth Silvara was undoubtedly the finest dancer in Bearclaw keep and arguably one of the prettiest girls around. She was a little disappointed, but held her tongue. There were other pastimes besides dancing. They weren’t as fun, but they filled the time of the less gifted well enough, she supposed.

‘Luv’? Really! Did she look THAT old?

Loryn Glitterfall Dan K
Thursday July 15th, 2021 12:41:08 PM

The gnome flags down some help and puts in for an order of stew and bread

Torrynashkabbeth
Friday July 16th, 2021 6:44:49 AM

Her ire at being called "Luv" quickly subsided. It was replaced with contemplation. It was, she thought, quiet in the inn. Then again, it was Bearclaw and not a lot seemed to happen; certainly enough to keep an excitable young half-elf amused. There wasn't even any music; so no dancing. She spotted the gnome and quickly took the order through to the kitchen.
The stew and bread were served up instantly and she scurried back weaving deftly between customers and tables to deposit the food with a smile.
"One rabbit stew. Enjoy." She proclaimed with a winning smile.

Loryn Glitterfall Dan K  d20+6=22 ;
Friday July 16th, 2021 11:08:57 AM

Loryn's face lights up as the stew arrives and he quickly produces a small multi chambered box. The gnome opens the box and leans into the stew to inhale deeply. he pauses a moment to apparently ponder what he just smelled and then gingerly takes a sample upon his spoon. The stew was indeed good, but it seemed to him, there could be something....something, but what was it? Loryn moves the bite about in his mouth, side to side, all the while his white hair bobbed about as his head tilted from side to side.

"Lemon grass and sage!" he excitedly exclaims a bit loud. Loryn shoots a look about and pulls a pinch of something from the small box and sprinkles it into the stew. "There we go." he snaps the lid shut, secures the latch and stows it into his pack. Quite pleased, he starts eating.

Map of Windhorn Hamlet
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1K2lRCIsDxW0y0VuK25ZBYx7uTuR5Dlsz

Locations

1 -- Grog’s Happy Half-Ogre Tavern and Inn -- always full, Grog, now advanced of age, sits in a large sized corner booth of the tavern. There is furniture sized for all. The Inn is like an oversized farmhouse complete with a barn for a stable. The tavern is run by Valma, Grog’s half-ogre granddaughter. Her human husband Cerdic the Tall, runs the Inn. It is as popular and forward thinking as ever. Grog, having spent some time at the Tree of Parting, follows their tradition of letting customers pay what they think something is worth.

2 -- Belt and Belch -- rustic bar with common room. Run by Gid the half-orc, it has outstanding lagers. It is known, however, for Saturday Night Fight Night. Anyone not fighting is given a “red band” for their sleeve, but folks are told, “Ya came, ya takes your chances.” There is a small fee for “Fight Night” to cover repairs to the bar.

3 -- Hearthfire Inn -- Inn and wine tasting room owned by Loendir the elf. It “looks” like a very small palace with columns, a small spire, and an upscale vibe. Some might find this unusual within a town. A formal dining room with white tablecloths serves fresh meals straight from the farms and wine straight from the local wineries.

4 -- The Green Grape Wine and Spirits Shop -- best wine and moonshine in the area. The store is split into distinct wine and stout/moonshine areas. The sitting area is divided in the same way.

5 -- Chapel of Wardd of the 1st Moon [and graveyard]. The roof opens up at night for services. The resident “Favoured” of Wardd is Noma Sparklescheme. She enjoys the “production” of her services and puts on an amazing experience every Full 1st Moon. She coats the church and the tombstones in the graveyard so that they glow under the moonlight. Every now and then, she tells “scary stories” for the children in the town square. This chapel’s “Lucky Basement” is considered very lucky as the basement has actually been to Koshe-Marr and returned intact.

6 -- Bearclaw Keep [with offices for Farmer’s Coop, Mayor, Windguard, usual organizations, Catacomb’s Branch Office], jail, Windguard armory, emergency shelter. Square shaped, also serves as a large fort if the town is attacked. The armory is well stocked and the emergency shelter with plenty of dry food and first aid materials. The busybody folks love to gather outside the entrance when there is local gossip to be discussed. There are several benches leaning up against the keep on either side of the front door.

7 -- Festival Grounds -- where rides and games are set up for the Festival. Basically this is a group of field areas. Local teens usually get the responsibility of keeping the grass manicured during the growing seasons. During the festival, the first tent up on the side closest to town is the organizer tent where everyone comes to get a location for their ride, booth, etc.

8 -- Campgrounds -- During the year, this is where wandering caravans camp [there seems to be a lot of these passing through] and where visitors set up camps and tents during the festival.

9 -- House of the Crystal Sphere -- Fortune selling shop. Liram and Niram [sisters] are the owners. They are the 3rd such owners of the shop. Both sisters worship The Three Crones. They have never revealed how they came to worship this power. They have a shrine to the Crones just outside of town.

11. (not on map, but immediately due south of 6.) Minerva's Boarding House.

Minerva's Boarding House Minerva's is the primary place where unmarried adults and long term visitors end up staying. The structure has accommodations for individuals of small, medium, and large size as well as suitable housing for quadruped taurs.

**********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************
It is assumed that all Player Character's are residing at Minerva's Thus, all characters most likely know each other as they have dined together numerous times.
