DM Mitch Tuesday August 3rd, 2021 8:11:22 AM Succotash tells the others that their home is under attack and then readies a teleportation spell to take some of them home. Kezzem draws his daggers and indicates his readiness.
Hobie activates his ring of invisibility and grabs hold of Succotash
Bliss suggests they cast a divination before rushing off
Murphy agrees with Bliss’s idea but does not begrudge anyone rushing home to warn people as he investigates the caves and its contents a little more.
Tali prepares to investigate further into the cave and volunteers to teleport those who can’t go with Succotash
Pressi agrees they need to rush back and that she is one of the people to do it but she still thinks Bliss might be able to figure things out.
Succotash, Kezzem and Hobie teleport back to the stronghold as a group while Pressi either goes with them or word of recalls herself to the Coven.
Meanwhile Murphy and Tali investigate further while Bliss heroically casts his spell.
It is strange but focusing on the remains of the vials and the residue within them he sees time kind of reverse at first into the glass being whole and being set into a holder in the alchemy lab under a flame. He can’t see who exactly is working the lab almost as if the person doing the alchemy is invisible or otherwise doesn’t exist but the silt does become refined into a powder with the consistency of a salt. One of the vial cracks from the heat and you see the remnants fall to the floor but their were several vials containing the silt in the alchemy lab. The alchemy lab is shifted a little in the room and you can see it leave scuff marks in the floor.
Meanwhile Murphy realizes that rare metallic salts, iron and steel are the components of a fabled Teucri artifact known as a Juggernaut, an indomitable wagon of war.
Tali investigates further into the cave but doesn’t find anything significant
Back at Humble’s Ford:
Pressi word of Recalls into her Coven meanwhile Succotash, Hobie and Kezzem appear outside
The mysterious person you have been tracking has beaten you home and has already created the contraption. A steel wagon the size of a large house groans as it rolls quickly over the ground. Carved images in high-relief decorate the construct’s exterior, but no driver sits atop it and no animals make it move.
After unleashing the creation to speed toward you and your home the figure calls out in a deep baritone, “I built this especially for you. I hope you enjoy it.”
He then teleports away content to let you contend with his creation

Pressi rushed from the Dancing Pig along with the others... only to see the giant contraction before her.
Upon hearing the deep baritone, "Mom? Darn it, I told you to stick to the registry. I wanted this in purple to go with the china pattern."
Harper begins to growl softly as the figure teleported away. (I wanted to look up whether Pressi can disrupt or track a teleport but can't research. If there are any ideas, please advise.)
Pressi casts a quickened spectral hand and her flying broom. With a start, she rockets straight up in the air.
Finally, she telemessages Murphy a single image... of this vehicle.

[Is there a drawing / sketch / photo of the Juggernaut?]
Murphy takes some of the lab gear, and just as he is tucking it away, Pressi sends the image.
Before the Teleport "Thanks for helping us better understand what happened here, Bliss, and delving deeper, Tali. It is time for us to go.Tali, can you teleport Bliss, Mookie, yourself, and me back to the Sanctuary of Humble's Sword? There is a large house-sized Juggernaut - call it a wagon of war - headed right for our Sanctuary. I'm ready when you are."
Murphy evaluates the image Pressi sent him. He looks for armaments, openings, does an initial assessment of vulnerabilities and things to watch out for on the wagon. He takes out four feathers, places them in a little pouch, and with the string, ties it in such as way that the pointed each of each protrudes from the pounch, and the leather string is of a size that he might loop it around a small bird's neck, or allow it to grasp it in its talon. "Mookie, you have the Instant Fortress, right?"
After the teleport to Humble's Sword Sanctuary Upon arrival, Murphy quickly gathers what information he can. "Tali, can you make me invisible?" he asks the sorceress.
As she does (if she does), he communicates out loud to Bliss and Tali, and telepathically to Pressi, "I'm going to see if I can get inside, perhaps as a bird or the like. Will keep Pressi informed telepathically."
"Anything anyone wants me to do before I wildshape?" he asks.
Then, keeping in mind what he saw telepathically, or can see for himself, he wildshapes into what he thinks will be an appropriate form to let him infiltrate the Juggernaut. As he does so, he does not include the feather pouch in his transformation, but does keep it held, so that both he and it are invisible still.

Tali teleports everyone back, makes Murphy invisible and plans to start summoning backup (see e-mail) Bliss did get his divination off in the recent past. The image of the invisible alchemical lab work was what he received for his trouble. Now though it is time to prepare for battle. He turns into a cat, and activates divine favor as Mookie drinks an invisibility potion.
When the druid sees the gargantuan monstrosity his hopes are dashed as there is no evidence of any doors or windows. There is just an exterior made up of a series of what appear to be carved images in strange shapes with no breaks, openings or anything. Furthermore the contraption seems to emanate 50 mph winds 15 feet out from its gargantuan frame. Any tiny bird trying to get close to that thing would have to succeed at a DC 25 Fly check at a -4 penalty just to not get blown back from it. As the swirling winds whip around the outside of the structure you can’t help but notice tiny flashes of electricity arcing through them as well. If you had to guess you’d say anything getting close would not only have to contend with the bludgeoning and stopping power of the winds but would likely be in for a real shock as well.
The juggernaut takes the opportunity to run over Succotash and Valerie while everyone is standing around gawking. He takes 52 damage and Valerie takes 39. Both must make reflex saves of DC 34 or be knocked prone and get pinned under the machine.

Succotash and Valerie dimensional hop out of the way from being crushed by the Juggernaut. Meanwhile the summoned Archon steps up to the Juggernaut. While it may be immune to the electricity it is not immune to the bludgeoning damage caused by the buffetting winds. The Archon needs to make a DC 22 Reflex save or take 11 bludgeoning damage. Unfortunately for the Archon the thick metallic armor turns the greatsword aside without doing any damage. Kezzem also steps up to the Juggernaut. As soon as he gets within 15 feet of it he needs to make a DC 22 Reflex save or take 15 electric damage and 11 bludgeoning damage. He also needs to make DC 22 Fortitude save or be knocked prone. Assuming Kezzem is still standing after the buffetting electric winds the juggernaut takes 15 damage from his attack. Bliss casts a silent extended blink to get some more protection against the juggernaut. Mookie enters his instant fortress. He notes that the Juggernaut is roughly 20 x20 x20 Tali tries to transmute rock to mud, but since this is a field outside of your fortress it’s sitting on dirt, not rock. Hobie tries an anti-magic field but upon casting it he finds that he is unable to fly because the barrier is impervious to spells, spell-like abilities and supernatural abilities and magic items do not function inside of an anti-magic field (OOC: Do you have a non-magical way for Hobie to fly? Otherwise he can’t fly while in an anti-magic field. I’m going to assume you flew to the juggernaut first, and then cast the spell, the reverse doesn't make sense) Bliss acrobatically attempts to attack the juggernaut. However in order to get to where he can do that he has to move through the juggernaut’s aura of buffetting electrical winds first.
The tiny cat must make a Reflex save vs 22 or take 9 bludgeoning damage and 11 electric damage. He must also make a DC 22 fort save or be knocked prone by the strength of the winds as he is smaller than size small.
Meanwhile Mookie is contending with his own challenges. (OOC: We will allow Mookie’s evasion to apply) Unfortunately being buried under the ruins of the tower doesn’t give the bird much room to maneuver. (OOC: Per cavein rules a DC 25 strength check will allow a buried creature to free itself)
Tali’s 5 Tyrannosauruses appear Kezzem casts Divine favor on himself remarking that their battle might take a while.
The underneath of the Juggernaut, presuming Bliss actually manages to get underneath it, is probably not where you want to be. It’s low to the ground even for a cat, and as it moves and shifts lower bits that stick out smash and crush. If he does get under it, he takes 52 damage plus 16 electric damage.
The Juggernaut also takes advantage of the archon and Kezz’m being close enough together for it to crush both of them. Kezz’m takes 49 damage and 11 lightning damage and the Archon takes 41 damage and 13 lightning damage. Both must make reflex saves DC 34 or be knocked prone and get trapped under the contraption.

Last round: Bliss faces winds: Reflex save (at -1 fatigued) is a 24, so Bliss is not buffeted. Fort save is a 23, so Bliss is not knocked prone. He scrambles under the war wagon, taking half damage from the area effect. That's 26 plus 8 electrical, or 34 total damage.
Once he us under the wagon, Bliss attacks but misses.
This round: Bliss uses a move action to blink up! He tries to find a space inside the wagon, if that exists. If not, he blinks atop or to the side of the wagon, still in its space, but not under it.
He attacks again, and his miss chance is a 38, so he can make his attack. He hits AC16, surely a miss.

While doing so, he thinks hard about everything he's studied of constructs, and with a knowledge Arcana check of 49, he should know quite a bit about how to defeat them. In particular he wants to know damage reduction, energy resistances, any particular weaknesses, etc.

With Murphy out of contact and nobody else making any suggestions, Pressi decides that they might need some plan than just jump on the death car and hope for the best. Like, shouldn't there be some sort of cool catch phrase first? Or a speech about the importance of family?
Pressi does consider reversing gravity, not that Hobie has dropped the antimagic field. See how well this juggernaut can fly, she messages to Murphy. But with half the team on top and Murphy hoping to trap the car, she holds off for the moment.
In the meantime, Pressi decides that it's time for some reconnaissance. After a quickened protection from energy (electrical), Pressi dives down towards the juggernaut, her hand outstretched. WIth a shot, she uses her Lore Keeper Ability (Knowledge Domain, Touch Attack 32, Know Roll 31).
Pushing off, she uses her spring attack ability to dive back up.

DM Mitch d100=29 ; 4d6=18 ; 4d10+28=57 ; 12d8=65 ; Monday August 9th, 2021 8:11:08 AM Succotash casts resist energy on Valerie and then heroically casts Righteous Might on her. She then makes a full attack action against the Juggernaut. She hits once for 7 damage. (OOC: if you have a way to overcome DR bypassed by adamantium let us know) His Archon hits every time but only does 42 damage total (OOC: again let us know if the Archon can overcome DR 15 bypassed by adamantium) Cat Bliss gets out from under the wheels of the wagon and looks for some kind of way in or failing that a way up. While the halfling turned cat can’t find a way in he does manage to extricate himself from being crushed but sadly his attack misses. Meanwhile Mookie tries to deactivate the instant fortress while it is kind of flattened it is also kind of not empty since Mookie is currently under the debris. Hobie dismisses his antimagic field and takes off into the air. He then ruminates about what he knows about the juggernaut. Kezzem heals himself then gets to stabbing the juggernaut. Unfortunately the thickness of the behemoths armor turns aside all but a single blow. Tali commands the T-Rexes to attack the juggernaut. Unfortunately the beasts massive jaws cannot penetrate the juggernaut’s metallic armor plating. Pressi utilizes her quickened protection from energy and her domain power to glean information about the Juggernaut.
Since Kezz’m avoided being knocked down but does not seem to have moved he continues to get crushed by the machine, taking 57 damage and 18 electrical damage. Everyone else is hovering around and can’t be run over. It fires of an electrical explosion, hitting everyone within 20 feet.
Valerie, Succotash, Kezz’m, the Archon, Trex 1, Bliss, and possibly Pressi take 65 electrical damage, reflex save 22 for half. You also have to make a DC 22 fort save or be stunned for 1 round.
Pressi, to avoid the explosion you have to be more then 20 feet from the top of it and it’s 20 feet tall, so 40 feet or higher. You said you flew down 20 feet, touched it, then moved up - do you have the movement to have gotten high enough to avoid the explosion?
Mookie says the command word and there’s a moment of anticipation, but then nothing happens (I rolled a d100 with a 20% success chance, a 20% chance of bone crushing failure, and a 60% chance it’s now just a broken pile of inert metal)

DM Mitch Tuesday August 10th, 2021 8:40:14 AM Succotash uses his dimensional hop ability to pull Valerie out of combat before casting divine power on her. His Archon then starts healing. Kezzem keeps attacking the construct, hitting twice this time. He asks if anyone can make it easier to hit. Pressi communicates to the others its weaknesses lamenting no one invested in a scroll of rusting grasp before casting reverse gravity which causes the juggernaut ascend into the air as gravity has been switched off in the local area. Tali surrounds the now airborne juggernaut with T-Rexes Bliss retreats. Murphy goes up and starts casting. Hobie sends a stream of arrows blasting through the thing and deep into its innards.
The Juggernaut is now 60 feet in the air presumably at the center of the cube where gravity has been switched off. Unfortunately a T-Rexes effective range is 40 feet so the T-Rexes can’t get tall enough to damage it.
Meanwhile the juggernaut utilizes its aura to propel it towards one end of the anti-gravity cube as if to escape but it can only move 40 feet in the air while under aura power. As it goes along smoke and sparks billow from deep within it and it seems to start coming apart until suddenly there’s a muffled ‘BOOM’ and the whole thing starts to collapse in on itself.
It lets out one last wave of wind and lightning before it falls apart. Anyone within range of the 15 foot aura of the 60 foot in the air juggernaut takes 7 bludgeoning and 5 electric damage with a DC 22 reflex save.

DM Mitch Wednesday August 11th, 2021 8:13:53 AM Succotash coordinates with his summoned archon to heal the party then searches the remains of the juggernaut for any clues. Kezzem suggests that next time Pressi lead with causing things to fly into the air and then explode before taking out his healing wand and offering additional healing. Pressi tells Kezzem the exploding part was Hobie and then attempts to examine the symbols on what is left of the Juggernaut to research at the library. Unfortunately that final explosion resulted in really none of the elaborate designs surviving intact. You could always try to get a partial match on the few pieces that are left. Murphy congratulates everyone and suggests they have plenty of allow to return to the people they were helping with hopefully some left over for their own tinkers. Tali thanks the T-Rexes for their services and then questions if their assailant had connections to the Iron Golem of the Scab
The magic user did not leave anything behind other then the juggernaut. The destroyed machine itself shows signs of being crafted by a true master, but he wasn’t so foolish as to sign his name or anything. You could possibly try to scry with the parts which may or may not be enough of a connection to help with the scrying - on the one hand if he made it himself that might be enough of a connection, on the other it was seemingly made just recently then immediately destroyed so it’s not like long association existed to create a link between object and owner.
The scrap itself looks fairly valuable. It would probably be worth a large amount of money, though you did promise to return some of the material used to craft it to the original owners.
Mookie remains trapped under the remains of the tower, slowly being crushed.

Murphy (Kim) Druid, small earth elemental Wednesday August 11th, 2021 8:52:09 AM
The druid flies over to the fallen tower. He wildshapes from air to earth Elemental. He earthglides through one of the windows, and looks until he finds Mookie. When he does, he brings him out. To facilitate in the search, he communicates through Pressi, who can talk with Bliss, who can talk with the large raven.

Tali you mentioned the Iron Giant incident, and maybe these two situations are related, but the ring leader, in that conflict, was a female dwarf, so unless this jerk is connected to her somehow, I fail to see a connection. That said, I wish they were connected, I have a little justice I would like to administer to the dwarf chick. After all she did kill both Tali and myself. Luckily we were able to stop the Juggernaut before anything bad happened, but I really would like to catch up with this guy to give him a piece of my mind, and hopefully discover his motives."

Kezzem turns to Hobie. "Your arrows explode now? That's cool. Maybe I could get my daggers to make things explode when I stab them. Oh wait, that might not be the best idea."
Pressi (Melvin) - AC 26 (31), HP 129/144; fatigued, CMD 26 (28); Harper AC 31 (36), HP 96/102, CMD 30 (35) d20+17=25 ; Wednesday August 11th, 2021 9:01:00 PM
Pressi reminded Succotash that the "jerk" may be male or female, despite the deep baritone and given the prior use of illusion magic. (That's why Pressi used singular they in the last post.)
Also, "that's the thing. What would have happened if we hadn't stopped the juggernaut. It's not like we're that close to town or the force field. Only thing I can think of is that he, they I mean, directly targeted us."
Pressi, after sifting through the pieces to get a partial match, does in fact make another attempt at greater scrying using the metals (Will DC 24). But Pressi also casts vision on the juggernaut remains (caster level check 25) in the hopes of seeing how the juggernaut got there (and maybe to get a better glimpse at their friend).

Tali will look over and through the remains of the Jugged'Naught wagon shifting and deciphering what can be learned, by using a casting of her wand of Unseen servant, which she removes from her handy Haversack. Anything that looks of Arcanic value, Tali will have the unseen servant place off to one side for further evaluation.
DM Mitch Thursday August 12th, 2021 6:38:26 AM Hobie starts collecting whatever pieces of the juggernaut he can and puts them in his handysack. Murphy flies over to the fallen tower and wildshapes into an earth elemental searching through the remains for Mookie by coordinating with Pressi and Bliss. Succotash remarks that the guy they were chasing was good at covering his tracks but points out that the ringleader in the case of the Iron Giant was a female dwarf. He still wants to catch up to the person behind the Juggernaut and give them a piece of his mind. Kezzem is surprised that Hobie’s arrows explode now and considers getting his daggers magicked to explode too. Pressi reminds Succotash that the person behind the juggernaut had a fondness for illusion so that their true identity could be male or female. She also argues that the target of their stronghold suggests that Humble’s Sword was directly targetted. Pressi does not get any result from her greater scrying but as for a vision she catches a glimpse of it being constructed by itself in the hidden in one of the stands of trees. It is like there should be something manipulating the components to construct the contraption but there is a blank place in the spell and it makes everything look like the components are moving of their own accord. CatBliss is thankful for the healing and the help with Mookie. Tali sifts through the wreckage looking for any materials of arcanic value. There is plenty of metal but she doesn’t really find anything that radiates magic. She does find some of those remains of symbols built into the Juggernaut Pressi had previously been looking for though.
The party is able to extract Mookie before he is too badly crushed. There’s plenty of metal to be salvaged from the destroyed construct, though if you’re going to return it to who it was stolen from it seems likely the orc’s meteor and the dwarve’s stolen alloy has been all mixed together and it will be difficult to separate out the metals. There’s also enough here that some of the metal was probably gotten elsewhere.

Succotash lets out a sigh of frustration and says, "So we have absolutely nothing to go on. We have no motive, no culprit identification, and no knowledge as to whether or not the jerk plans on trying again. This is beyond frustrating. I guess I will be preparing dimensional anchor everyday, for the unforeseeable future, in hopes of forcing the jerk to stick around and meet his just deserves, or at least give account for his actions. I would consider attaching dimensional anchor to hallow spells, and completely saturate the area, and if you guys want, I will surely do so, though it will require a lot of expensive incense. Each 40 ft area will cost around 5000 gp. If we decide to do so, I feel we should split the cost among us. I should warn you though, it will also stop everyone but me from using teleportation spells, as none of you guys share my faith, and it will last a year."

Pressi concentrates in a hope of gaining inspiration (hero point spent). Trying to figure out if there is any way they can figure out who the builder is, considering that everything tried leads to a dead end.
If the identity is supposed to remain hidden, the hero point is not spent.

"Can't you Tali do some magic thing, or Press some witchy thing, or Murph some plant-talky thing to help us out on what to do next?" asks Kezzem. "I mean, I could go around stabbing people until someone talks, but I believe that's frowned upon in the paladin code."

Bliss tries to think back to the moment before everything blew up. Didn't he get ANYTHING from that powerful Vision spell he cast?
DM Mitch Friday August 13th, 2021 7:40:01 AM Succotash points out they have nothing to go on and that he will be preparing dimensional anchor everyday in case their assailant shows up. He speculates that combining it with hollow could get pretty expensive and it would prevent everyone except him from teleporting but it might be worth it and if they decide to they should split the cost of the expensive incense.
Pressi doesn’t really draw any divine intervention (OOC: keep your hero point) but she does remember that they are supposed to return to the orcs, dwarves and lizardfolk from their most recent adventure
Kezzem asks if Pressi, Murphy, Tali or Succotash can help them figure out what to do next as stabbing people until someone talks isn’t very paladin like.
The vision spell that Bliss had cast before the bru-haha revealed an alchemic lab creating the refined metallic salts that went into the juggernaut. He saw the lab seemingly move on its own, what that means is hard to say. Did you see some kind of enchanted alchemy lab running or was something missing from the picture you got?
