The Wardens find themselves on a vast and almost featureless plain with normal sized grasses blowing in a wind with no source. A large 6’ tall pile of dirt extends away from the portal and is about 12 feet wide and 350’ long. Above and around you are hundreds of glowing blue portals hanging in the air or sitting upon the ground seemingly at random. As the Wardens stand looking at the plain and its vastness one of the portals miles away in the sky flashes and pings with a crystal-like clear chime. The portal at their back responds with a like chime. A moment later several creatures emerge from the floating portal in the distance and start to fly towards the Wardens portal. As they get closer it’s evident that these are more of the iron golems they battled most recently, and they are glowing as if freshly forged. It’s clear that you have to defeat these golems and close that other portal or more are sure to come...
Vamir, it appears has not stepped through yet.

Not far away, a figure in mitrhil full plate pushes up from his prone position in the grass, and trots over. One by one the Warden's jumped into the portal and emerged right side up through the vertical portal in the Nexus.
Neshi prepared to cast stone skin on Atlas, Brawn, and Elyngael. Meanwhile he marked the portal they arrived through as he spoke to the newcomer.
Osul Asked about an enlarge person spell.
Trellus stood and revealed himself as he called out a greeting to the Warden's of the Tree.
Atlas started to grouse about the golems and that Elyngael was going to steal the spotlight once more. He then noticed Trellus and greeted him.
Armand looked around in wonderment and then his eyes narrowed as he tried to determine their location.
Vamir and Melzat prepare for battle.
Elyngael wisely relaxed in the knowledge that the golems wouldn't be here anytime soon.
The weather here was beautiful, but there was no clear source of water in sight at all so any prolonged stay here would require some kind of magic to produce such. Still, Trellus claim to not know how long he'd been here resonated with Osul and Armand. As to the time it would take for the golems to arrive, likely hours. Aside from the Warden's and the portals arrayed upon it this place was featureless.
Armand Highlight to display spoiler: { Armand had read of this place. Some called it the Nexus of worlds, but in reality in terms of the cosmology of the Wold it was more a Nexus of places. Dragons and powerful undead were said to have used the place as a means to travel in the Wold. This pocket dimension has elements of Air and Earth, seemed unstable, and would required something to keep it open for any length of time. Dragon magic most likely in this case. Armand also noted that the sheen of the portals other than the two they'd seen in action was different. (DC 20 Arcana) The one behind them at ground level and the other miles distant in the air. To navigate the Nexus they'd need to simply cross the distance to the other portal, but he felt that there was a time limit. In fact he'd bet the only reason why Trellus was sitting here was that the portal was marked with the dirt from the Sargrass and this one was the only one different from the others. He'd likely not know which portal he used to get here. Armand realized that to linger here would mean eventual amnesia and ultimately a state of catatonia.
Opening a portal to summon creatures requires a 20% Arcane Spell Failure check due to the unfamiliarity of the pocket dimension. }

DM(James M) - Map - Raindrops, Irondrops, or Iron Drops? Friday July 9th, 2021 8:57:32 AM
The wardens choosing to fly upwards to meet the golems spend the next fourteen minutes flying almost directly up to meet the glowing iron creatures. As they draw closer they can see that these are indeed the same type of glowing golems they encountered on the Sargrass. Huge iron constructs with vestigial wings that defied any logic as to how they managed to work.
With a loud creaking noise akin to rusty grating metal rubbing against itself one of the golems turned to look down at the wardens and simply dropped out of the sky.
DM: I've updated the map, but running through every round to close the 3000' distance would be rather tedious, so if you are flying up to meet the golems state that in your post as well as your flying movement rate. If you are staying on the ground note your location on the map. Encounter range will start at 200'. Also please list any spells that have a short duration and might expire during the fight. Range increments for firing bows upward are halved, so a longbow incurs a -2 to hit for every 55' upwards. At the encounter range (200') there is a -4 to hit. Movement rate upwards is also halved. Also unless your flight device allows for running you cannot exceed the stated movement for your device. i.e. a Fly spell has a fixed movement rate, which is halved when flying upwards. Since everything falls at the same rate. 720' per round, if you choose to fall along with the golem you will be able to keep up with it. Pulling up out of that dive is a DC 30 flight check. For every 100' from the ground you choose to pull out of the fall the DC is reduced by 2. If you fail the flight check you hit the ground at terminal velocity.
You can safely move twice your movement downwards without making a flight check.
About 30 seconds before there could be any kind of contact between the party and golems, Neshi pauses to summon his friends (this action was posted a couple of post prior) and casts summon monster VII and hopefully three huge air elementals are soon flying nearby.
arcane spell failure roll 14
Neshi then flies within 150 feet and cast sleet storm above as much of the group as can be encompassed by the spell. Hoping to slow down as many of them as he can.
DM: By the spell failure roll if I'm reading it right, the spell failed.

DM(James M) - Map - Round 1, Fight! d20=11 ; d20=11 ; d20=13 ; Monday July 12th, 2021 10:30:57 AM Neshi raced upwards towards the golems and tried to summon some elementals then cast sleet storm.
Osul summoned a cloud giant to protect the portal on the ground then followed the others into the sky.
Armand flew upwards towards the golems.
Trellus flew towards the golems and then stopped to cast Shield of Faith
Elyngeal moved upwards and fired two arrows.
Owen cast freezing sphere.
Neshi's sleet storm blasted three of the golems and blinded them. Each tried to fly up and over the storm. All three managed to dodge most of the sleet and ice to gain altitude or dodge to the side. As the sleet and ice fell outside of it's area of effect however it melted quickly and turned into a localized rain cloud. Below a cloud giant appeared out of thin air to stand in front of the portal. It nodded at Osul and started swinging it's enormous morning star as it waited for someone to approach the portal.
Elyngael's arrows struck true on the fourth golem. As the electricity arced over it the golem became white hot and jets of molten iron started to erupt from it's skin.
The first three being hit by the sleet storm slowed somewhat as the magic behind what made them fly and what cooled them slowed them down while allowing them to stay aloft. Wings beat in slow motion but they didn't fall, it was all very strange.
The one golem unaffected by the icy storm advanced on Elyngael as she fired arrows at it. Meanwhile the fifth golem plummeted toward the ground in a controlled fall.

Neshi cast cone of cold on the golems.
Trellus cast Divine Power
Elyngeal fired four arrows.
Vamir moves to try an close a portal.
Owen cast stoneskin on himself.
Atlas fell with the golem as they bash each other during the fall.
Neshi's cone of cold shot out from his fingertips and struck the lead golem heading towards him. It's effect was readily evident. First, the golem stopped glowing white and seemed to harden as it turned to a light gray color with fractures running through it. Second, the molten spray of it's aura stopped completely as did it's healing ability that Elyngael noticed with the fourth one. Lastly, though the wings still beat furiously the golem was moving slower than before.
Elyngael fired the arrows, but only one of the four struck the golem and it seemed like it was still fluid enough to heal some of it's damage. DM: Fast Healing 7
A burst of water exploded around the wardens and the golems fighting above Osuls windy conjuration. It's effects were visible and immediate. Instantly a cloud of steam erupted from the two golems not already effected by Neshi's cone of cold and their aura's were dispelled. They still had that red glow as if molten however and seemed to have taken no damage from the water, though they were slowed somewhat.
The first golem must have felt it met it's match and just stopped flying and fell like the others, however when it hit the updraft Neshi placed beneath them it was bouyed up for the moment, or it's fall was slowed as it looked like it would continue falling but perhaps take a few seconds to fall through the windy area.
The second golem that was falling with Atlas grinned and lashed out at the man and hit him twice. The strength of those blows could not be denied as Atlas felt them through the magic of his protective spell.

So DR10/Adamantine and DR10/Evil means if an evil weapon hits you, you get 10 DR because it isn't adamantine, and if an adamantine weapon hits you you get Dr 10 because it isn't evil. A normal weapon would only get DR 10 and not 20 because the two don't stack. In the case of these golems you'd still only get a Damage Resistance of 10.

Neshi cast web and fragments of willowly substance flew about but didn't have the intended effect of binding the golems wings. A moment later Neshi's second spell lashed out and nearly caused the golem to burst into pieces.
Osul casts create water into the wind and the updraft causes the water to burst upward in a reverse rain shower soaking everyone above the windy conjuration.
The third golem suddenly found itself alone and like a few of the others decided that flight just wasn't the best option for it, so it fell...directly through Osul. The fifth golem also decided it was time to pull up out of it's fall, but it was far too late. All it could do was try to hit something on the ground and it targeted the giant in front of the portal. It's aura touched upon the giant and then that five thousand pound mass smashed into the giant. The giant flew back as it tried to dodge but didn't make it out of the way as the golem plowed into it and then a few feet into the ground. As the golem lay prone the Cloud Giant struck at the golem with it's morning star and hit it twice. As the second blow came down upon the golem it fractured into tiny little pieces..dead.
DM: Pulling up out of the dive is a DC 30 flight check. For every 100' from the ground you choose to pull out of the fall the DC is reduced by 2. If you fail the flight check you hit the ground at terminal velocity. Present altitude is 900', so the DC to pull out is 12.

If that direction is down you do not need to make a fly check to pull up out of your dive. If you choose to fall you do so normally. RobC said 500' but terminal velocity is 720', but what he was getting at is that to stop a fall before that 500' mark is met requires a DC10 check, afterwards the check is automatic. Now, the biggest issue here is that I've been using my own set of table rulings to govern both you and the monsters, so I'd like for my rules to carry through for the remainder of this combat. (Call it a special property of the Pocket Realm.) Afterwards we can switch to the official interpretation.

Trellus grinned and then in irritation also headed downward.
Elyngeal asked about Vamir and then she and Brawn headed downward.
Owen called out to Vamir as he realized the portal Vamir just used is not the one they needed.
Atlas halts his descent as he watched the golem continue it's fall.
Osul reduced the effect of the wind.
As the heroes all started to descend, with the sole exception of Atlas who didn't need to hit the ground just yet, Osul eased the updraft. The net result was that the golems that were caught in the wind started to fall once more. Both decided that they'd rather fight as their tiny wings lifted them upward towards the heroes.
The third golem extended it's fist on an elongated arm and smashed Osul as did the first golem to Elyngael. Both attacks rattled the heroes as the magic from the stoneskin spell absorbed most of the damage. The second golem beat its wings futilely but only managed to alter its course as it was apparently destined to meet its end smashing into the cloud giant as did its brother.

With the last golem littering the ground, Trellus stops running. He does continue descending, until he's back down and among the Wardens and the newer new guy.
The human man wears mitrhil full plate, carries a mithril shield, and wears a bastard sword at his hip. A dark red vestment covered in silver colored High Woldian symbols hangs over his armor. Both shield and armor have an upright hammer centered upon them, and centered in the hammer on his chestplate is a WLA Badge (Guardian Rank).
He nods to Atlas. "Many Shadows. I'm Trellus. I escaped the destruction of the Sargrass by jumping into a portal woven by a new god we, well, rescued from Rattledam. The other side of the portal was a cold void that I was in for, I don't know how long. Seems like a long time. Domi came to me there, and we had a long talk, and he rewove my pattern a bit, and then I popped in here just a little before you dudes did."

The warden's continued to get to know the newcomers and to formulate a plan even as the flat plane they were on rotated slowly until the light from the sun was almost gone. Far away in the night time sky they could see the wispy strands of substance blowing about in the ether as well as the liquid portals that floated above the ground in the distance just like bricks didn't.

"Well Moridark, in addition to being an eye of Gargul, I am a member of the scholar's guild and hold the rank of professor sage of records. We all seem to be in the same place at least, which we've tentatively identified as the Nexus of worlds, but in reality in terms of the cosmology of the Wold it was more a Nexus of places. Dragons and powerful undead were said to have used the place as a means to travel in the Wold. This pocket dimension has elements of Air and Earth, seemed unstable, and would required something to keep it open for any length of time. Dragon magic most likely in this case."
"As for why we're here, long story short, we the Wardens of the Tree of Parting are here in pursuit of an entity that appears intent on conquering the Wold. He, she, or it appears to be sending creatures through from yonder portal." Armand points to the portal the golems came from. "I suggest we move as best we can to at least position ourselves under it before resting, as I'm not sure we have an easy way to mark it....and there appears to be a lot of these portal things in this place."

As each of the Warden's passed through the portal they came through and saw that they stood in another pocket dimension, amazed at sights that would be impossible in the Wold. Before you stretched a long stone bridge sixty feet wide with pylons every 30’ holding it up over a vast muddy swamp. The bridge was straight and went for as far as you could see -- miles and miles, surely -- before vanishing in the distant mist and fog that permeated the place. Rising above the mist in the distance you can see a large stone stronghold or citadel.

Gears, sprockets, and springs littered the bridge as they rolled around on the flagstones and settled into the mortared joints in the blocks. Odd clicking noises continued as random bits of angel jumped about around them. Other than the noises from the destroyed constructs all was silent other than the occasional popping of a muddy bubble beneath the bridge.
Otherwise the cloying mist obscured their vision beyond a few hundred feet as the bridge stretched out into the distance. Behind them the portal had faded as if it needed to recharge before allowing anyone to pass through it once more.

DM: Moving things along unless you'd like to stop and talk a bit....
The rest of the day was mostly uneventful, the sky was clear (out to 3 miles) and nothing bothered them other than the smell of the swamp below them. Late afternoon when they stopped a moment to hydrate and take in their surroundings one of their number noticed a frog like creature a couple of miles distant. That it was visible from where they stood was a testament to it's size. It was easily the size of a dragon as it languished in the muddy swamp. You could faintly hear it croaking in the distance as well, but it made no move towards you. You suspected it didn't even see you moving along the bridge.
Another curiosity was that you encountered some wraith like beings that resembled people moving the opposite direction along the bridge. You could stand in front of them and they'd stop, but unless impeded in such a way they said or did nothing that would alarm the wardens. They were harmless. As evening approached you started to encounter them more frequently and quite possibly another reason the large frog beast wasn't alarmed by your presence on the bridge. It simply couldn't tell you apart from the ghosts.
Unless there is something specific you'd like to do you can set up camp and watches for the night.

Flying around the citadel it becomes immediately clear that whomever created this pocket realm never intended for anyone to circle the castle. As soon as any of the flying wardens get far enough away from the bridge the castle just ends. Stones vanish and there is no back. In fact looking from the back side of the castle they see nothing at all, not even the bridge and the free windows on the side of the structure they can see show a room with 7 portals and people that look identical to those in the courtyard.
The people on the ground find that a close examination of the structure shows that as the blocks and structural supports get farther from the portals they flatten out as if painted upon a canvas. The texture and joints in the mortar are simply optical illusions created by masterful strokes of a brush. Unlike a canvas however the walls are impenetrable. This place is barely hanging on to it's reality and no telling what it will do to its inhabitants should it collapse upon its own magical weight.
As for the portals, each was suspended by magic inches from the ground with no frame around it. No rotating steel structure, rock circle, or anything that might be able to be knocked down or broken. Just a simple glowing puddle of water on its side.

DM(James M) - Map - Pedestals and Portals Monday August 16th, 2021 11:37:47 AM Osul didn't seem affected by the evil aura that suffused the area. He then exclaimed they were in the Wood. He also confirmed Neshi's question.
Neshi looked around and then cast detect magic.
Armand also wasn't alarmed or shaken by the aura and asked about the "Wood". He also cast Detect Magic and looked the device over.
Elyngael took a short walk around the area to see what she could see.
Moridark was also unaffected by the evil aura.
Owen helped Moridark examine the stone.
Trellus asked about the golems.
Neshi - Highlight to display spoiler: {The device on the pedestal is definitely what is holding the portal open. It seemed to also be recharging. You estimate it'll take 5 to 6 days to fully recharge. Touching it might not be a good idea.}
Armand and Moridark - Highlight to display spoiler: {The device on the pedestal is definitely what is holding the portal open. It seemed to also be recharging. You estimate it'll take 5 to 6 days to fully recharge. You suspect that the entire pocket dimension is being fueled by this device, Maybe not the nexus of portals, but certainly the bridge with the trapped souls. It was also looking like the order of the portals on the bridge were randomized, but this place is certainly the source of the magic holding the pocket realms together.}
Elyngael - Highlight to display spoiler: {The ruins mirrored the citadel on the bridge very closely however none of the walls were higher than twenty feet and some were crumbling in places. The inside of the place would be easily accessed. As she ranged out towards the south she saw that there was indeed a road of sorts with tracks showing recent activity. None of those tracks headed north toward the ruins however. In fact the only tracks she could find in that area between the road and the ruins were of small game. She could see further down the road that there was a signpost.}
Owen - Highlight to display spoiler: {He looked at the stone closely and spotted a hairline fracture running through the key gem in the construction. The device would shatter easily if thrown to the ground and effectively destroy it. He suspected that the aura he and the others felt is what had prevented anyone from coming near to interfere with it. He also saw a single foot print next to the objects location. }
Elyngael, Perception DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: {From down the road you can make out the words written on the signpost and the direction the arrows point. Bywater Bay - 10 Miles - North, EvenOak - 5 Miles - East, Tharn - 140 Miles - South, Effacia - 70 Miles - West, Troll. }
The wood seems quiet and undisturbed here near the ruins and the evil object. No tracks or evidence of anything can been seen in the area.
The pedestal itself sat in an enclosed and crumbling area with what appeared to be the only part of the structure with a roof. Inside the darkened area where the pedestal sat was choked with cobwebs. Small, normal spiders lay starving in their webs as they looked for insects that would never appear and wander into their traps. The walls to either side of the pedestal looked unstable and the iron bound wooden door at the back was half blocked with rocky debris from what looked like part of the ceiling near it. The area beyond the door was hidden from above by weeds and underbrush, no telling what evil lurked within that dusty edifice.

Armand finishes studying the crystal. "Well that thing fairly reeks of evil. I wish I had a consecrate spell just to annoy it. In any cast that crystal on the pedestal is definitely what is holding the portal open. It seemed to also be recharging. I think it'll take 5 to 6 days to fully recharge. In my opinion the entire pocket dimension is being fueled by this device, Maybe not the nexus of portals, but certainly the bridge with the trapped souls. It was also looking like the order of the portals on the bridge were randomized, but this place is certainly the source of the magic holding the pocket realms together. I'd like to destroy it somehow while it's in recharge mode. Anyone have any ideas?"
Armand pauses briefly. "I do have a shatter spell I can try on it. Then there's my adamantine hammer, or if we want to stay further back I'm sure Elyngael would be willing to shoot it with an adamantine arrow. I sort of doubt a dispel magic is going to work on it, maybe a greater dispel magic? Also I have Stone Shape, maybe we can seal it up. Those are just my thoughts."

Trellus thought about how to destroy the artifact.
Moridark explained what he could tell about the device.
Elyngael reported on what she had seen.
Owen explained that he detected a fracture in the stone.
Osul flew off to the signpost.
Trellus - Highlight to display spoiler: {In most cases artifacts are very hard to destroy, but in this instance it seems the creator was working at the edge of his ability. The crack in the stone shows that the magic is tenuous at best. He thought that Owen might be right about how to break the device, but doing so might bring with it it's own set of problems.}
Osul - Highlight to display spoiler: { You emerge from the woods surrounding the ruins and see a small road that leads to a nearby crossroads. There a signpost shows direction and distance to local areas.
