You hear the music. Lothlo is immediately entranced, and starts moving toward the sound of the song. Zazu tries to stop him, but he is not strong enough to hold on. [Grapple check of 14 does not beat Lothlo's CMD of 21] Sahabiel, too, tries to stop him but is unable.

[OOC: Lothlo is compelled to move toward the sound. If you try to stop him, he's going to struggle, so a Grapple check is needed.]

Naithi, too, is entranced and wants to move toward the song. Camalayas wants no part of it, so Naithi dismounts and begins walking on her own. [OOC: I don't see any class feature or ability that lets you substitute Camalayas's save for yours. The only thing it does is makes you walk, which probably makes it easier for your companions to stop you.

By now you can tell that the song is coming from a human-like voice. Knowledge: Local DC 22 Highlight to display spoiler: {You haven't seen it yet, but it's probably a harpy.}

Then another voice joins the first. Everyone (including those already entranced by the first voice) must make a DC 16 Will save or be captivated and move toward the song.

Feeling the assault on her mind, and uncertain how much more of that she will be forced to endure, Sahabiel prays to higher power to grant her clarity of purpose and the insight to know her own thoughts from this interference..

(Using a prayer of Owl's Wisdom, +4 temporary enhancement bonus to Wisdom for the next five minutes, for +2 on Willpower saves.)

With her horse and her senses still under her control, she rides after Lothlo and Zazu before those two get too far ahead for anyone to stop them from walking into a trap!

When the second voice joins in, Zazu and Naithi succumb. [OOC: James, thanks for the info on the Lost Child ability. That's very cool!]

Beech stops up his ears. You can choose make yourself completely deaf, and therefore immune to the song. Of course, you also can't hear your companions, and you'd take a penalty to try to cast spells, but honesty it's probably a good tradeoff.

Nightingale and Sahabiel do not succumb, and Sahabiel takes the opportunity to boost her wisdom a bit.

Ash also resists, and casts Cause Fear on Zazu. I'm going to say that he can't fail voluntarily, but if he does fail, he flees and gets another save against the song. [From the captivating song description: "If the path leads them into a dangerous area such as through fire or off a cliff, that creature receives a second saving throw to end the effect before moving into peril." And yeah, there's no fire or cliff, but there's something scary so Zazu gets another save.]

[Ash, Beech, and Sahabiel each get a Hero Point for innovative solutions.]

And, just as you thought you might actually find a way out of this, three more voices joined the chorus!

Everybody make 3 more Will saves, DC 16. Those who fail are captivated. Those who are already captivated should make a note of which voices they succumbed to.

The more of the songs that Ash hears, the more she is able to resist them. Her friends don't seem to be having the same luck though.

She needs to find a way to help them en masse. One by one just isn't going to cut it.

Ash casts a Ghost Sound spell to produce a load roar equivalent to that of a large lion. She centers it right where most of the group are in the hopes of drowning out the song. She intends to keep the roar going non-stop for the next few rounds. Sure, the party likely aren't going to believe there is an actual lion standing there but as long as it blocks their ears that's all Ash is going for.

Zazu save vs fear ... a 9 fails. Zazu flees and gains another save vs the second song ... a 7.

Ash casts Ghost Sound. Unfortunately, the lion's roar doesn't quite drown out the sound of singing.

Sahabiel succumbs.

Naithi is captivated, so she doesn't want to do anything but move toward the sound. She thinks briefly of speaking, but that would disrupt her enjoyment of the song, so she doesn't do it.

You head into a clearing, and see the source of the song. Save for the tattered wings and taloned feet, the creatures resemble feral women with a wild look about them. One flies over to attack Lothlo. Luckily, the wicked-looking morningstar glances off his armor.

The other creatures remain where they are, singing.

And the map. I found images for Sahabiel and Nightingale, but you should feel free to swap them out for something you like better.

Beech tries to tackle Sahabiel, but she is far too strong for him.

Ash ducks behind a tree and casts Spectral Hand.

Zazu is frozen in place.

Nightingale wonders about entangling the creatures. Right now, 4 of the 5 of them are sitting in trees. The 5th is attacking Lothlo. It is flying now, but it might land soon.

Sahabiel is still captivated.

Lothlo is also captivated, but stops now that he's next to a harpy. [OOC: the harpy attacking you is the one right next to your character on the map]

Naithi is still captivated.

Some explanations on captivation. First, although the description does say you defend yourselves, it also says you offer no resistance to a harpy's attack. That strongly implies that you defend yourselves against everything but the harpies. Or rather, everything but the specific harpy or harpies that have you captivated.

Okay, I need to color-code the harpies on the map.

Second, you get a save if your path would take you into a dangerous area, like through a fire or over a cliff. Combat doesn't count.

The first harpy attacks Lothlo again. This time, she gets him with one of her talons, for 3 damage.

And the [link href="https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1jyV_AZA-2RSv8nPodi3dmch1IHSWhCaYXVTuMeaPvKE/edit?usp=sharing"]map[/ink]. Please move your own character on the map if you move. If you are captivated, that means moving toward the harpies.

Harpy color code:
1 - blue
2 - red
3 - green
4 - purple
5 - gold

Note that sometimes Google Draw forgets to recolor the images. Reload the map, and the colors should appear.

Beech manages to cast a Flaming Sphere in a harpy's square. She makes her save and takes no damage.

Then Ash hits that same harpy with Blindness, but again, the harpy makes its save.

Naithi and Camalayas continue toward the rest of the flock. The blue harpy lets you pass, figuring she has her talons full.

The blue harpy decides that it would rather not be standing on top of a Flaming Sphere, so she shifts away from it [5-foot step], and continues attacking Lothlo. [She is on the ground now; I don't think I made that clear before.] Again, she is only able to land a single blow with one talon. Lothlo takes 1 point of damage.

(OOC: Somehow I had not seen John's message before my own posted. Accounting now for being targeted with the flaming sphere)

Just as Sahabiel is about to resume her dazed walk towards the harpies further east, fire rolls over her, and only by an unlikely stroke of luck does she manage to avoid ending up seriously burned.. as a silver lining however, seeing the raging flames most undeniably shocks her into recognizing the danger of the path she was taking.. enough to make her question again if walking towards the song is really worth it -- and bolstered by the divine will of the woods that she beseeched earlier to guide her, she suddenly realizes the song as but a trap!

(dexterity save 1d20+2 = 19, saved. Willpower save against Harpy #4: 1d20+10 = 29, saved. Willpower save against Harpy #5: 1d20+10 = 19, saved.)

(Having only started a move action, Sahabiel would still have time to use a Standard action upon snapping out of the enchantment)

You.. fiends! drain a mieri, ffrindiau amser hir, hawlio'r tir hwn a chyfyngu'r ar hynt pawb!

(Prayer of Entangle. Substituting Welsh for Sylvan, so you can just copy it into Google Translate rather than me spoilering it. ^_^ Anyway.. if those map squares are Pathfinder's 5' tactical squares, Sahabiel can fit the area containing harpies #2, #3, #4, and #5 and the trees they are sitting in into the 40' radius of her Entangle spell, hoping that if she makes the trees themselves seek to restrain the bird women with a sudden growth of vines, that might literally change their tune..)

Hey wait a minute! Cause Fear lasts only 1d4 rounds! Zazu is no longer afraid, for sure! The bewitched elf moves toward the (closest?) enemy harpy. But wait! There's a big honking fire in the way! Does that mean Zazu gets another save? If so, a roll of 14 ... is not good enough. So Zazu walks forward (into the fire?). Poor Zazu.

Beech rolls the Flaming Sphere into Sahabiel, who is not burned, but who is startled enough to snap out of her captivation. She casts Entangle. [OOC: Please mark the area of the Entangle on the map. Email me if you need help. It's important, because the Entangle creates a dangerous area that will give your companions additional saves.]

Beech also fires a shot, which damages the first harpy.

Ash casts Blindness again because freaking Blood Witches, man. However, the harpy, against all odds, saves again.

Lothlo continues to advance.

Nightingale's Spiritual Hammer attacks again, but misses. This being the third round, it vanishes shortly after. Nightingale casts Doom from a scroll. Doom is a single-target spell, not an area spell. You can easily target any of the harpies with a Doom spell--or maybe you were thinking of another spell? Also, what does your eagle do?

Zazu, no longer fearful, advances toward the harpies. [OOC: harpy #1 is blue; #2 is red; #3 is green; #4 is purple, #5 is gold.]

Naithi and Camalayas also advance. If their path would take them into the Entangle, then they would get new saves, but I'm not sure where the Entangle is, so let's hold off for now.

The green, purple, and gold harpies make their saves agains the Entangle and fly away from the trees. The red harpy is entangled. Seeing no better target, she attacks Nightingale's eagle. [Not sure what the AC is. The harpy hits AC 24 for 4 damage and AC 18 for 7 damage. The other attacks miss.]

The blue harpy decides she's had enough of this Blindness nonsense, and flies straight for Ash! It is a double move, so she can't attack this round.

And the map.

OOC: Crap, I checked it three times, I meant Bane lol [/]

Eagle is attacking the Red Harpy (it is triggering its Smite evil ability, adding a +1 to damage if it hits) (Eagle gets 2 claw attacks, so that's the +3's to hit) (OOC-PA - so as I can't read, ignore the 2D20 rolls lol)

The spiritual sickle takes another swipe at the blue harpy (see roll, fingers crossed that it actually hits lol)

Spiritual Sickle deals 1D8+1 (looks like it's a crit, but does it get one?)
Eagle looks like one claw may be a crit, Damage is 1D3+1

Nightingale can't move as he used her move action to have the sickle chase down the blue harpy

[I] OOC: I always feel like a noob when I'm posting here, lol

Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 22/11/21 -- HP: 34/40   d20=16 ; d20+3=21 ; d20+10=26 ; d8+6=10 ;

(OOC: Omissions from my previous post- I have now added the Entangled area on the map, I did not know I could draw on it as well as move my character, but that is nice! ^_^. Also, previous post I forgot to roll separate saves for Sahabiel's heavy warhorse in response to the Flaming Sphere, so did that now - both saves succeed (I clicked the wrong button so that d20=16 should have been d20+3=19, but it is a success either way) and Kohlrabi too is no longer captivated by any of the harpies.)

As the sudden explosive growth of plantlife entangles at least one of the vile bird-women in front of her and forces a few others to abandon their perches, Sahabiel sees that one of the ones nearer to her makes its escape to the side, circling the party’s left flank. Not wanting to come under attack from two directions, the green skinned half-elf turns her horse and rides straight for the lone breakaway (Harpy #3 / Green).. “Wood’s Will Be Done!”, she issues a battlecry as she swings her morningstar at her opponent in what looks like a fierce blow..!

(Attack roll 1d20+10 = 26, Damage roll 1d8+6 = 10)

(OOC: P.S. I believe the harpies’ captivating song is an (su) ability, and using an (su) ability is a standard action. Wouldn’t the harpies that used their round to make attacks instead had to have stopped singing then? Bringing it up because that would make a difference for Zazu since they were only affected by Harpy #2, who started attacking two rounds back, so the charm lasting “as long as the harpy is singing, plus one round” might be up for them at the start of this one?)

Previous round: Nightingale cast Bane, not Doom, but still neglects to tell her poor overworked DM the save DC. Harpies 1 and 3 (blue and green) fail the save.

This round: Nightingale's Spiritual Weapon makes one final attack before vanishing. It hits, possibly critically. To confirm a critical hit, make another attack roll (1d20+6), and if that would hit the harpy's AC, then it is a critical hit and you can roll 2d8+2 for damage. If it is not a critical, roll 1d8+1 for damage. Note that Woldian DMs are absolutely prohibited from making rolls for players, so you'll need to do those yourself.

Nightingale's eagle may have scored a critical hit, too. To confirm, roll 1d20+3, and if the result would hit the harpy's AC, then roll 2d3+2 for damage. Otherwise, roll 1d3+1. You will need to do damage rolls yourself; I am not allowed to.

Sahabiel charges toward one of the harpies! However the harpy is still flying, so melee attacks will have to wait until she decides to land. [OOC: I have been treating the harpies' Captivate like bardsong; it's a standard action to begin, but once started, they can continue it while doing other things. I don't know if that's the official interpretation, but it makes sense to me.]

Lothlo blunders straight into the Entangle, which doesn't involve thorns unless Nightingale has some way to add them.

Ash tries one final time with the Blindness--and this time it succeeds! The blue harpy shrieks in rage as her foe--and indeed, the entire world--disappears.

The blue harpy flies away a short distance, clearly confused and disoriented.

The red harpy continues attacking Nightingale's eagle. [Hit AC 16 for 4 damage]

The green harpy swoops down to attack Naithi. She hits, and Naithi takes 8 points of damage from the harpy's morningstar.

The gold and purple harpies retreat to trees outside the Entangle.

(OOC: Oh, I see. The harpy being too high up in the air to reach from the ground couldn't be seen on the map view, but as she is not given to pointlessly swing at the air, Sahabiel would have adjusted her action for that. Can we do a quick fix where we treat the attack I rolled as either Sahabiel using a Held Action to attack the harpy as soon as it swooped down into range, or - which has the same effect - use those rolls as an Attack of Opportunity since the harpy also passes vertically through Sahabiel's threatened area when it swoops at Naithi and Camalayas?)

Naithi and Camalayas continue attacking the green harpy. Camalayas's attacks all miss, but it doesn't matter. Naithi puts the harpy down.

Beech fires two shots. The blue harpy has retreated (she is off the map), but he can target one of the others if he likes.

With the closest opponent down, Sahabiel begins a summoning spell.

Ash tries again with the Spectral Touch, but misses again.

Lothlo briefly breaks free from the Entangle, but is soon ensnared again.

The red harpy continues attacking Nightingale's eagle. She hits AC 15 for 6 damage.

The gold harpy lands and continues attacking Zazu. Her talons both hit, for a total of 6 damage.

The purple harpy veers over to attack Lothlo. Her attack hits for 5 damage.

And the map

Time to get involved in this fight. Ash needs to find a way to disturb the harpy songs and she's not going to be able to do so from the back of the pack.

Ash charges forward and digs deep to cast a spell. Lesser Confusion. It's not a great spell, but if she can get the harpy confused enough to do something other than sing she'll consider it a win.

Zazu's captivation continues.

Nightingale attacks the purple harpy but is unable to land a blow.

Ash tries a Lesser Confusion. The harpy makes its save.

Naithi swoops down to attack the gold harpy. She hits and does damage.

Beech fires two arrows at the red harpy--both find their mark.

Lothlo stays where he is.

Sahabiel's air elemental shows up and uses the Aid Another action to help Lothlo's AC. Sahabiel herself attacks the purple harpy directly, hitting once.

The red harpy is still entangled, and no longer has an opponent nearby. She tries to escape the entangle, and succeeds, but has no actions left.

The purple harpy takes a single swipe at Sahabiel with her morningstar, but misses. Still airborne, she then flies away, provoking opportunity attacks from Sahabiel, Nightingale, and the air elemental.

The gold harpy, having landed, switches her focus to Naithi. One of her talons connects for 1 point of damage.

It is not the harpy's day in this clash between morningstar users, as Sahabiel comes out looking particularly skilled with that weapon.. and before the harpy can full well make an escape, the half-elf sees her chance to get one more strike in, and the spiked metal ball at the end of her weapon connects with a more louder crunch than any of her previous attacks..

Attack of Opportunity; Sahabiel vs Harpy #4: 1d20+10 = 30. Confirm crit: 1d20+10 = 19, confirmed; rolling damage twice and adding. 1d8+6=10, 1d8+6=10, total 20 damage.

P.S. Jokingly, of the five times so far I have rolled my 1d8+6 damage roll, it has come up a 10 four times now. If this were a casino, I think it would be time to ask for new dice. ^_^

Sahabiel's summoned air elemental likewise attempts to slam the harpy as it tries to escape, and hits, though being slammed by air proves far less damaging.

Attack of Opportunity; Elemental (air, small) vs Harpy #4, slam 1d20+6=25, damage 1d4+1=2

Zazu protests, but can still hear the gold harpy singing, so things aren't too bad.

Ash tries again with the Lesser Confusion, but the harpy again makes its save.

Nightingale's attack of opportunity hits. You can still take an action this round.

Naithi and Camalayas keep going after the gold harpy. Camalayas hits once, but Naithi's attacks all miss.

Beech fires two shots at the purple harpy, one of which hits.

Sahabiel and the air elemental both landed attacks on the purple harpy, but she is still flying. They turn their attacks to the gold harpy; Sahabiel hits and the elemental misses.

For the moment, Lothlo remains captivated.

The purple harpy stops singing and starts fleeing.

The red harpy, who escaped the Entangle last round, swoops down to attack Ash. Her morningstar connects, and Ash takes 9 damage.

The gold harpy continues battling Naithi, hitting once for 6 damage. She also stops singing.

Note: Captivation continues for one round after the harpies stop singing. Anyone captivated by gold or purple remains captivated in this next round. You can act the following round.

The tide of the battle seems to have decisively turned in favor of the adventurers, but if it is to be a victory, irt already is not a bloodless one. Sahabiel fights on with determination!

Sahabiel vs Harpy #5; attack roll 1d20+10=24, damage roll 1d8+6=10

Small air elemental vs Harpy #5; attack roll 1d20+4 = 23, damage roll 1d4+1=4

Note - for Sahabiel I forgot to add the +2 for flanking bonus, and for the elemental I subtracted instead of added it.. but thanks to high rolls, both still hit anyway, so no big deal.. Also, a few contingencies.. because most of the things I am targeting now are either really low on hp or may already be dead by my turn, so.. If Harpy #5 is dead before Sahabiel's turn comes up, she will ride to the Harpy #2 that is attacking Ash, and apply her attack there instead. If Harpy #5 dies before the air elemental's turn comes up, it will use its 100' move rate to catch up with the fleeing Harpy #4 and apply its attack to that instead. In case Beech's arrows already killed Harpy #4 too, the elemental would apply its attack to Harpy #2 (red) instead, which is also within reach of its move.

Beech fires twice at the fleeing purple harpy. One shot misses, and the other does a measly 2 points of damage--but it turns out that a measly 2 points was enough. The harpy falls to the forest floor, dead.

Naithi flies above the gold harpy to provide a flank. [OOC: Welcome to the world of trying to depict 3-dimensional combat on a 2-dimensional map. Wait until we get underwater. :) And no, there's really not a good way to do it; we all just have to do the best we can.]

Sahabiel and her air elemental take advantage of the flank and attack. Both hit and do damage.

Nightingale returns her attention to the red harpy, and flurries, hitting twice.

Ash tries again with the Lesser Confusion. The harpy fails its save.

Lothlo and Zazu return to their senses and can act next round.

The red harpy is confused. The confuse-o-meter rolls a 92, which means that she attacks the nearest creature. Unfortunately, that is Nightingale. She hits, and Nightingale takes 8 damage from the morningstar.

Ooc: Ignore the extra attack rolls. I made Naithi's attack rolls before her fly check, but she failed the fly check to move at less then half speed by less than 5, so she didn't fall, but she was forced to use a move action and therefore couldn't make a full attack. I'm still getting used to flying combat rules.

ooc2: It looks like Camalayas and Naithi's attacks were not included last round. If so the Gold Harpy took an additional 20dmg. If that happened to kill the Gold Harpy then Camalayas will instead charge the Red Harpy and only use her first attack. Camalayas claw 1 hit ac 29 confirm crit 16 for 5 dmg (7 if crit)

ooc3: I edited my post to update my AC. It looks like I calculate my AC wrong. Wild Shape says it is like beast shape which gives bonuses to dex and Nat Armor. Reading the polymorph rules, it looks like I have to make other changes first.

A few moments pass as the din dies down, and with opponents having fallen lifeless and no others in sight, Sahabiel dares raise her morning star in a gesture of victory and with but a few words of prayer dedicates her own part in it to her patron.

“Ya think that was all of them?”, she checks with her companions.. “Right then.. Let’s regroup an’ see what ya all need fer some of those scratches..? Those creatures ‘ad a good punch as well as a song.” She touches her own side where one of the harpies had struck her during the fighting, and doesn’t have to see it to know that under the mail she must already be forming a mightily blue bruise. Nothing her body would not quickly regenerate if she bathed in the divine, life supporting light afforded her by her connection to the Culverwood. And some of her companions are probably in worse shape..

(When everyone is close enough to her to benefit, Sahabiel will expend two of her daily uses of Channel Energy, staunching bleeding and making injuries heal. It was originally going to be one, but the rolls were utterly disappointing ^_^ 3d6=3, 3d6=6, total of 9 hp restored to each character)

"Sorry about the fire, but I hoped it would snap you our of the charm they were singing" Beech says after spending a few minutes pulling the gunk out of his ears....
"Maybe we should raid a bees nest for some wax and all of us carry ear plugs. I know it's too late for now, but better to be prepared for another time. Shall we search their nest area for the spoils of battle? I highly doubt we were the first victims of that trick."
After wounds are tended, Beech will begin by detecting magic, then start looking about.

(The harpy is blind and if it moved over 1/2 speed it would need a reflex save not to fall prone, and if flying it would crash to the ground at that point)

Sahsbiel
I recommend always rolling your cure and healing rolls individually. We have a house rule that natural 1's get re-rolled when healing.

Any ones rolled during any type of positive energy healing are re-rolled until something other than a one is obtained.

House Rules for spells /healing
.

I believe that would increase your healing to 19 power person.

I fly high over the trees for a minute to make sure no other harpies or other enemies are coming before you landing and returning to my normal form.

That settles it. Girls are meant to have wings. Did you see me to there! If w got to do they again. That was even better than when the magic water turned me into a puppy.

Camalayas and I gather around for the healing, and I gently scratch her ear as the wave of positive energy washes over us. I feel my flesh gently knit back together and Camalayas let's or a gentle sigh. I know she wasn't hit directly, but she experiences my wounds just the same.

Thanks Sahsbiel. We needed that. I suppose the next thing to do is search the corpses and look for their nest. I'll let you all search for the loot. These thing may taste awful, but if you prepare it right their musk is quite useful.

Survival check to collect and prepare musk = 29 Pass

Typically, the crafter scrapes the congealed sweat and muck from a dead harpy and boils it down with water; doing so requires a successful DC 15 survival check. A character who has never seen the process done must succeed at a DC 25 Survival check to fumble through it.

Zazu is ready to cast again ... but the battle is won!

The elf, no longer charmed, still regrets the end of that beautiful music. "Maybe I should learn to make music too ..."

But the book-maker and spell-scribe also looks at those harpy feathers and thinks about writing with mystical inks! "If no one minds," Zazu declares, "I'll take the best feathers for myself. Anyone else want any? Not the scorched ones."

But Boyo nuzzles his master, and so Zazu also casts detect magic and concentrates on all the area. Plus, do there seem to be nests nearby?

Sahabiel channels positive energy to start healing her companions. [OOC: Allow me to echo James D; roll those d6s one at a time, because the house rule says you can re-roll 1s on healing.]

Naithi and Zazu scavenge the harpies for parts.

Beech pulls the gunk out of his ears and begins looking around. You do not detect anything magical, but the harpies all had useful gear. In addition, you find that each of them was wearing a piece of jewelry. Mundane jewelry, but it's probably worth something.

You find: leather armor (5), morningstar (4), platinum and diamond starburst brooch, gold and emerald bracelet, silver moonstone pendant, set of silver and jet armbands (2).

I have an idea. If we encounter another harpy, I would like to try negotiating with them. There must be a way we can work out a peaceful coexistence. Perhaps, knowing we can beat them, they will agree to cooperate with us. They can guard our trade routes and take out any orcs or members is the thieves good they encounter. We could also try working out a trade for musk and sell that in town.

Ash eyes the bodies of the deceased harpies. The party are known to be quite thrifty and resourceful, and leaving nothing to waste. She's not quite sure where they draw the line just yet though.

She will set to plucking some feathers from the deceased monsters. Ash will only pluck one or two at first and then looks to see the reactions from the others in the group. If anyone seems disturbed she'll simply say they're for a material component for a spell and not pluck any further. If no-one seems to be disturbed by it she'll keep pluckin' away.

She shares Naithi's concern. "Do you think they have a nest nearby? There might be more of them out there. Question is how to find it"

Ash is more than happy to cast Prestidigitation to clean the feathers Naithi has already picked up.

Naithi cleans some harpy feathers and suggests negotiating with them next time.

Ash wonders whether there might be a nest--or more harpies--nearby.

Beech is skeptical of the idea of negotiating, and Nightingale echoes his doubts.

Zazu asks whether the harpy song was objectively beautiful, or if he had just been captivated into believing it was. Even those of the party who were not captivated have to admit that the songs were beautiful.

Zazu suggests you move on for a ways and then find a place to camp away from the carnage.

Lothlo wonders how far you are from the city.

You could probably reach Karri by nightfall, but that raises the question of what you would do when you got there. You have an address from the message, but it would be pretty late for a visit. Do you know of an inn or someplace you could stay? If not, you're probably better off camping tonight.

Seeing as several in the group share concern over where these harpies made their nest, Sahabiel applies herself dutifully to looking for clues as to where that might be found... and with the rush of combat having passed, she goes about it methodically.

(Take Ten on both checks, no dice rolls. Since there is time, reciting the Orison of Guidance for a +1 skill check bonus both times. Using Survival (tracking) to identify signs among the trees of the direction the harpies came from, and how many; Take Ten = 21, or 23 if this area counts as a forest, reference DC 20 for tracking by indirect signs only in absence of footprints. DM Kathy
Friday September 24th, 2021 11:56:23 PM

You decide, on balance, that it's better to do some more investigating into the harpies and how many there are and if you can find the blind one.

You do your best to read the signs, and they are--inconclusive. You were attacked by five harpies. Are there more? You're pretty sure there aren't lots more; you're pretty sure you would see more signs if there were, say, a dozen harpies in the area. Are there one or two extras that didn't join this hunting party? You can't tell.

You do find the remains of their nests, and there's nobody home. So if there were a couple of extras, they've fled. Or they're hunting elsewhere; it's hard to say.

As Beech had predicted, it isn't hard to track down and finish off the blinded harpy. That gets you another morningstar, another set of leather armor, and a gold-and-ruby necklace.

The hunt took a couple of hours, so now getting to Karri before nightfall is out of the question. You're better off looking for a good campsite.

You are able to find a good site to camp, but since you want to make sure you're well away from the harpy nests, it's nearly full dark by the time you begin to set up. By firelight, you arrange tents and bedrolls and blankets. Over a hastily-prepared supper, you discuss your watch order, and keep watch through the night.

The night is chilly, but your fire and blankets are enough to keep you warm enough to sleep. You keep careful watch through the night, but nothing disturbs your rest.

Because you were a little late setting up camp last night, you're a little late setting out this morning. But no matter; you'll be in Karri before noon regardless.

After breakfast, Sahabiel packs up what needs to be packed up, puts her strength to use digging a hole for what leftovers need to be buried, and before the party sets out towards Karri again goes through a short workout to make sure she is ready for the day.

As Karri comes into view, the half-elf shows excitement and curiosity...

"So that's a city? 'tis bigger than I imagined it," she shares her thoughts with her companions on their approach to the city. "Don't think I've ever seen anything like this." She sniffs at the air as they come closer. "...seen or smelled. Ya tell me, 's it like this everywhere ya put this many people together? Oi, if ya lived here, would ya even know every address without looking at a map?"

She smiles to Beech, saying; "Sorry.. just didn't grow up in a place like this. How 'bout yer? I think I can't imagine yer people living packed together like that." She would have said the same of Naithi, but between Naithi on Camalayas and herself on Kohlrabi, the height difference makes it hard for Sahabiel to look to Naithi without taking her eyes off the road entirely.

>> "I was always better gathering info in the woods," Zazu admits.

Sahabiel nods vigorously at Zazu, entirely familiar with it that some of her skills just work a lot better in the woods, especially magical woods.

Lothlo listens as other people make plans to find the address.
I think I'm going to fall back on an old trick. There's bound to be some good street food around here. They usually know the area pretty well, and are usually happy to give directions, especially if the person they are helping is buying something. And worst case scenario, some meat on a stick would still really hit the spot about now.
