Nira reads and studies. The dwarfs don’t have much lore on Teucri artifacts other than ‘dangerous: stay clear’, so any advancement Nira is able to make might help future generations. Other than observing and drawing the outside of the objects and describing the known effects when they were active, she isn’t able to get far.

The dwarfs thank Gaffer for the offer, but don’t need more assistance. “Rely on friends too much and not only do you lose your own talents, but they become less friendly”, explains one grizzled veteran.

The New Tide discuss their various methods for going from the Deep Forge Clan (located deep in the rugged mountains of the Scab) to Dirt City.
“Birds!”, says Gaffer. “No way!”, says Desdichado and Hmerrin.
“I can magic us there.”, says Ramierez. “No, No, NOOOO!!”, says Hmerrin, Desdichado, Gaffer, and Nira.

Turns out, what the older Tide know that Ramierez and Danko don’t know, is that teleportation magic doesn’t work the way its supposed to in the Scab. The last time the Tide tried any teleportation magic in the Scab (aka Transport via Plants), the spell warped and they got trapped in a Time Bubble for a year. And from stories (Know Local DC 15) they should count themselves lucky that Gaffer held an unknown Teucri artifact sucked them in asopposed to something REALLY drastic happening!

Bottom Line? The heroes are definitely walking (or riding) until they cross the border and are out of the Scab.

With things tied up neatly at the Deep Forge Clan, the Tide gathers to open the scroll. It reveals the Wardd high priest in Dirt City attempted to get a magical message from his patron and had a vision…

I walked the streets of a city or perhaps a large town, certainly NOT Dirt City. There was a sense of quiet and coolness to the air. The street was lit by nearby oil lamps and scattered light from windows above.

The view moved in and then around a corner to a darkened area and I heard a voice. A pure tenor voice, as pleasant as any sound to be heard spoke from the shadows, "I am to return Karri. Go and tell Nitish and Kumar to remain here with the meat puppets and continue. Know that she is pleased and your station rises friend."
"The levels below their library have proven quite useful" came the reply and an elven male crossed my view, and I followed him around a corner. As the elven male, dressed in non descript travelling garb moved away, I saw a sign, 'The Way Back Inn'

I turned around, and saw a gold coin spinning on its side on the ground. On one side, I saw a head of a tiger with the most malicious visage. On the obverse, was a wave of water. Which side the coin would land I could not know, and then my vision was over.

Noble Tide, I write this in the hope that you will have some method to receive it and may act. I do not know the vision was of the past, present, or near future, but it is clear in my mind that Lucky Wardd is pointing to you as the wave of water of one side of the coin.

It is sealed by the high priest of the Temple of Wardd

The man thinks for a few moments.
"I've heard those names....yeah, one of the WLA lessons on the lands.....let's see......
Karri is the capital city of Emerald Kingdom.
And the Way Back Inn is a well known tavern at Waypoint, which is also in the Emerald Kingdom."

The fighter looks at his friends.
"Guess the reunion at Shieldhouse is on hold. We're heading for Waypoint."

"I'm glad somebody recognises those names, I was feeling lost. Sounds like we have a destination at least. Not sure how I feel about being directed by Wardd but not sure I would want to say no either."

Gaffer will make sure they are stocked on basic supplies, food, water, and that is common clothes weren't worn through by the travel in and out of the gem, before asking the Dwarves for a map so they can plot a sensible route to their new destination.

"Now, who is 'she'? I dunno. But if I were a wagering man I'd guess it's the rakshasa that saw us through the portal down in the Deeepforge mines."

With a reading and a discussion, it looks like the Tide have a destination: the WayPoint Inn. Desdichado makes an assumption that supports his experience. Gaffer makes sure he has all the supplies he needs.

Several packages are delivered to the Tide’s rooms in the dwarf-hold, all carefully labeled for the person and from the Catacombs.

The question is: is everyone ready to March?

"Dangerous shenanigans," Hmerrin clarifies, much less excited about the prospect than Danko.

"No idea about Nitish and Kumar," he answers Nira. "Like Dez said, their use of the phrase 'meat puppets' is a giveaway. More good news about Rakshasa, they live practically forever, and they've got these camps set up apparently all over where they keep people like livestock. By which I mean feed, slaughter, and eat."

"And I've a really bad feeling 'she' is Golden Eyes. We keep seeing visions or projections of a pair of golden eyes, which recently got attached to a nasty looking female rakshasa who seems to be the boss."

"So to sum up, she's got her people eating our people, and the Tide has thwarted her plans and killed her people what, three times now? We don't like each other. Not at all."

Hmerrin gathers up his Catacombs goodies, and starts walking the Tide out of the mountains.

The Tide get ready, Nira taking a little time to read about Rakshasa. Seems these evil spirits are Outsiders, but native to the Wold, and most often take on the appearance of humanoids with animal heads. They cast magical spells and can fight up close. They resist fire, have spell resistance, and they have damage resistance that can be overcome by holy, piercing weapons. They are just about as evil and depraved as any mortal can imagine, even scoffing at the immortals themselves: nothing is sacred to a Rakshasa…

The Tide are seen off from the DeepForge clan by none other than the Forge Lord, Ulthern SilverForge, himself. Along with him is Haldrick. The two dwarf guides, Farin and Stohl, are once again set to guide the Tide through the mountains. And the Tide sets off, nearly an identical back-track to walk out of the Scab and get to Angel Springs and Crescent Valley. Once there, they will be able to safely teleport to anywhere else in range, but first they have to get there…

They have a steep descent until they come to a split of granite and meet the very fast moving stream they encountered when first coming to the DeepForge clan lands. The river, 20’ wide and with a turquoise tint, faintly sparkles with magic and is even ice rimmed. Followed east for a few miles, the travelling group turns south once more and through another pass to continue south and down.

Farin chooses the safest tracks. The weather is overcast with little visibility, and gusts of wind pushing at their backs. Before night falls, Stohl locates an outcropping of rock with a shallow cave to shelter in. Darkness falls quickly in the mountains and the clouds begins to drop flakes of snow. It swirls outside the cave, blocking visibility beyond 40’ even with light sources or darkvision.

While travelling Gaffer will take to the skies as a hawk once more, enjoying the space and fresh air after the time under the mountain.

While the party make camp he'll cast a Control Weather spell to clear the skies before slowing the wind, giving them a clearer view during the night, and drier rest. Not that the snow isn't beautiful, but he would rather see giants, or any other unwelcome visitors, coming.

He takes no issue with first watch and keeps a keen eye on the cave front until it is his time to sleep.

Once all the prepardness and readiness is done.

" Monty do wake me when it's my turn to stand guard. In the mean time, do be a good servant and stay next to me."

After getting all comfy under his bedroll.

Desdichado greets Stohl again, Farin, the stout dwarfs known to be good companions. They are the first to accept Desdichado’s minor magic (ooc: Dez casts 2 Endure Elements)

Ramirez observes a watch should be set: what is the usual order?

Hmerrin chuckles. They did but how ‘bout:

Ferin and Stohl are perfectly willing to let the heroes take a job that no one really wants, and perfectly understanding that Fyrda’s friends has powers far above what they can do as well.

Gaffer-Hawk explores the zephyrs of the mountains during the day, the occasional strong gusts not really affecting such an experienced flyer. As the party makes camp, he casts a Control Weather spell: clearing the skies and slowing the wind!,

Danko has an Unseen Servant help out around the camp and accepts an Endure Elements from Dez (ooc: Dez casts 1 Endure Elements: 3 total). Danko banters with his Unseen Servant, but Danko is sure to know the magical force can’t tell time and won’t wake the Sorcerer.

Nira is happy to be along for the ride and to get to see the Northern Continent! She has her own Roses Temperature Control spell to keep her cozy.

Camp is settled easy enough. Stohl makes the fire from a firesafe he kept from the DeepForge halls, and Farin produces an iron pot and two carefully measured packets. Using the pot to scoop some nearby snow, he lets that melt and boil before adding the first packet, which soon turns into a hearty stew for the travelers. Finishing that, cleaning the pot, and repeating the snow trick, the second packet turns out to be preserved apples, cinnamon, and cloves!

The apple cinnamon dessert is about ready to scoop when Gaffer notices the moaning of the wind isn’t the wind. It is a long moan, a rising and falling keening that skitters along the skin and raises the hairs on arms. It sounds like it is coming from right outside the shallow cave, but darkvision and Gaffer’s clear skies isn’t revealing anything. Even Nira’s permanent ability to See Invisibility reveals… nothing.

Nira has her bowl all ready for Farin to serve up some of that delicious smelling apple cinnamon dessert and frowns as attention turns to the noise coming from outside the cave.

"I can't see anything there. Careful that it's not just above the opening"

She starts running through a list of what could be making the noise. The wind? No. A wolf? Probably not. Something undead? Quite possibly.

With that in mind Nira casts a Magic Circle against Evil spell... just in case.

Hmerrin rises at the sound, and pulls out his axes, ready to strike. Does Farin and Stohl know anything? No, Stohl shakes his head, nothing known. Farin agrees, ”nothing outside of tales to scare children.”

Desdichado casts Endure Elements on himself, and walks out to the trail to have more room for battle.

Danko looks forward to shenanigans, and takes the opportunity to cast protection from evil on himself.

Ramirez can’t think of anything in Nature that could make that sound, and readies his bow.

Gaffer thoroughly enjoys the on the road cooking but not so much the interruption. The druid follows Des out onto the trail, checking rockface (that looks solid enough) and for tracks (only their own).

Nira also frowns as attention turns away from sweet smelling dessert. Undead? Quite possibly. Nira casts a Magic Circle against Evil spell... just in case.

The keening moan gets louder and sounds like it is coming from the air around Gaffer and Desdichado. It is joined by another and another and another; the moaning soon turning to words. “Aht laast you have returned, aht laast we get our revenge!”

As if stepping through a curtain, four Ogres loom above the Paladin and Druid! Death wounds are clearly seen but they are not bleeding. They are frost-rimed and faintly sparkle, but active, their ham-hands reach to grab and tear…

Hmerrin is ready and slams Ogre1 with an axe!

Two Ogres strike at Desdichado, but the Paladin’s new armor saves him from any damage!

The Paladin and Druid can spy four Frost Giants have also appeared along the trail and can shout the information to the others.

”Frozen Revenants!’, gasps Farin, ”I don’t believe it! They must have been sacrificed in the river and accepted for some dark purpose!”

Stohl moves closer to the fire, adding logs.

Nira casts Control Undead at Giants 3 and 4. "Attack the ogres!" she commands, hoping that at least one of them succumbs to her spell.

She takes a step further back into the cave to make room up front. "If these things can turn incorporeal we're going to be boxed in here" she says to the others, perhaps stating the obvious.

Gaffer finds himself suddenly hemmed in and hurt. Taking defensive measures first, he'll conjure a 10 foot tall stone wall between himself and Ogre 2, then extend it another two spaces across to block Ogre 1s back while also restricting the cave entrance so they don't get overwhelmed.
With the remaining walls, if possible, he will extend down from the roof of the cave exit, until it is just 6 feet off the ground, making it so his allies can freely move in and out of the cave, but the taller Giants and Ogres will struggle.

Danko calls for an open target, and delays to unleash a maximized fireball!

Hmerrin frowns, recognizing the same guys they killed on the way in. The fighter decides to find out just how much Frozen Ogre can take. Looks like a tremendous amount! Despite the fearful damage, Ogre1 is still moving with unnatural life!

Desdichado provides additional information, and agrees to "light up the cavern". He withdraws into the cave, and is able to avoid giving Ogre3 a chance, but both Ogre1 and 4 take a swipe, one hitting! (Des takes 29 damage)

Dez out of the way, Danko casts his fireball! All 4 Ogres are affected, and when the heroes blink away the spots in their eyes, Ogre1 is dead, and Ogre 2 and 3 are barely singed. Danko notes the others are not as hurt as he expected them to be… Spellcraft DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { they must have some fire resistance!}

Ramirez considers the shadowwalk and how that is dangerous magic. It may bear looking into, but later. Now, the bard swiftly inspires his companions to greater efforts, and casts a Haste spell!

Nira casts Control Undead at Giants 3 and 4, commanding them to "Attack the ogres!" she commands, hoping that at least one of them succumbs to her spell. She notes that the power of her spell, only one giant is able to be affected! (ooc: Giant 3+4 is more than 28 HD!) She can tell Giant 3 is under her sway!

Gaffer, hemmed in and hurt, defensively casts an inspired Wall of Stone that both blocks him from Ogre2, but makes any Giant or Ogre to have to squeeze into the cave first!

Ogre4 squeezes in and attacks Desdichado, but misses the armored hero!

With the Wall of Stone and the Ogre in the entrance, the Tide are unsure what is happening outside. Sounds of rocks and scree are all that is heard, for the Undead Ogres and Giants do not scream or shout.

Desdichado moves to where it seems likely the wall will come down and drinks a potion.

Nira worries that there may be more ‘guys you killed on the way in’. She casts two spells.

BANGBANGBANG. BANGBANGBANG! CRASH! Fifteen feet of the Wall of Stone falls down, and Gaffer and Hmerrin act. One Giant becomes a rabbit! Another gets a cut and a very athletic human chopping at its knees! As the young fighter approaches, the Giant slams a fist at the human, and bruises Hmerrin for 32 damage!

There are only two Frozen Undead Frost Giants left on the mountainside.

Giant #1 moans ”Revenge!’ and bats at Hmerrin with two large hands. One slams Hmerrin again for 33 damage.

Giant #4 picks up more of the plentiful boulders and careens them at the first target of opportunity, which happens to be the Paladin at the entrance. One strikes Desdichado for 29 damage!

Ramirez and Danko makes a couple suggestions, but it is Hmerrin who turns thought into action. As expected, the re-dead ogres and giants don't have anything of value, having been stripped of those possessions over a year ago by the Tide. It will take some work to burn the bodies, or magic to entomb the bodies, or but a couple of moments to kick the bodies off the path and let them tumble to the rocky crags below...

More conversation reveals that although the Tide no longer has a dedicated cleric, they have Desdichado, NIra, and even Ramirez with healing capabilities! The battle obviously over, Nira uses spells to heal.

Gaffer isn't able to do much scouting for night has fallen fast and his control weather is a local effect: all outside the spell's influence, the snowstorm rages.

So.. who sent them? There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on that unless someone wants to speak with the dead and ask them.

And.. where did the last giant go? That answer arrives over an hour later. The fire is banked and the first watch is getting ready when a bruised and battered Frozen Revanant Frost Giant moans, "Revenge!" It is obvious it just climbed back from the rocky drop below and onto the path in front of the not-so-shallow-anymore cave.

The ensuing seconds could hardly be called a fight as the Tide dispatches the undead quicker than they did the others an hour ago. The worst that happens is the melee specialists have to clean weapons and armor again. Ugh, such a chore!

Ramirez, who seems to be full of useful tricks, offers to use some magic to clean up any clothing or other items that got messy during the fight. I do have a little bit of healing magic also, much less than Nira's but it will be better than nothing in a pinch. I think we will need to invest in some healing items in the future if we are unable to recruit one. Ramirez' cloak shifts to a dull orange color. Either it is helping keep him warm or the color is a hopeful illusion of such.

Gaffer want to finish their rest first, the rest they haven’t even truly begun.

Nira casts one last cure spell on Des, and agrees the cave is probably still the safest place around. Even more so, with the two Walls of Stone permanently making a smaller opening.

Hmerrin agrees to rest for the casters, not to mention the others not being exhausted in the morning…

Ramirez cleans up and helps magically clean others, all the while speculating on possible ways to even have more healing available.

Gaffer, Nira, and Hmerrin turn out to be correct: nothing bothers the team or their guides during the night. And, in fact, nothing as strenuous happens for the rest of their travel through the Scab. Once the team walks past the effects of Gaffer’s control weather, the going slows down because of occasional drifts of snow or hidden ice patches. Hazardous but not dangerous. The most interesting thing happens at the last pass where the traveling company passes a mineral pool of steaming water. Farin and Stohl sorta glance at each other before Farin speaks. ”Huh, that’s new in the last year. Must be a new fumerole.” Nira’s Arcane Sight doesn’t see any magical-ness about the pool: it must be natural. And Stohl is quick to remind everyone that the Scab has always been a very active place.

Topping the last foothill on a cold but dry afternoon, the Tide and Guides are able to see the town of Angel Springs. Civilization at last!

Hmerrin's spirit's rise at the sight of Angel Springs.
"Shenanigans tomorrow, or possibly even the next day. First a warm bath, warm food, and a warm bed."

The lad joins Dez in bidding Farin and Stohl goodbye, and then turns to head into Angel Springs and find an inn.

"I've only been there once, for a day," he answers Nira. "This is where we linked up with Farin and Stohl on our way into the Scab."

Angel Springs! Farrin and Stohl shake hands and punch several in the arm out of friendship and they wish you well as they turn back for home. The small halfling city spreads out below and the party makes their way in through West Gate. Those that passed through before note that the little city is just as busy as they recall. Port of entry taxes are collected, general questions asked and minutes later you are passing through the gate with quite a few other people of all races. Most are merchants with wagons and almost as many seem to be heading out with wares as well. Standing on small built in mounts, halfling in light armor keep an eye on things, but their stances bely it to be more ceremonial than true watch for reasons of possible dangers. ahort walk down the wide and open street of West Spring and you are standing just outside Pour me More Tavern and Inn. Where most met up with Farrin and Stohl on the way up.
Inside the place is bustling, but the party can cram in at a table with a couple of other patrons. The Pour Me More has rooms available, bath priviledges down the road and a menu full of hearty food and drink

Desdichado thanks Ramirez for the drinks, and tells the new-Tide folks about some of their adventures so far: months of dealing with rakshasa in Dirt City, the destruction (and heavy losses) of most of their allies by those rakshasa, the small neutral zone they've been able to set up (a former temple to Ga'al, of all things), and going out to the Scar to help Sarge's clan.

"I'm sure you already know some of that, from the WLA's report," he nods toward Ramirez and Danko, "but I suppose you'd want to hear some things first-hand. And Nira I'm sure most of this is a big shock to you, falling in with a bunch of strangers who happen to be trying to save the Wold!"

Gaffer nods his thanks for the glass of whisky and thinks back to before the Rakshasa, "We've be on the outskirts of house politics in a few ways, chasing down ex-members causing trouble for the city, we attempted to stop an assassination once."

A memory creeps up on Gaffer that he is surprised he had forgotten.

"The biggest event was us getting wrapped up in the return of the Sargrass Planes but to be honest I wasn't sure what was happening at the time, I just did what the Gods told me to. Oh actually there were a lot of other adventurers involved at the time, don't suppose that included any of you?

Hmerrin gives a friendly nod to the other patrons at the table.

"Business tomorrow, my friends," he declares. "Today, food and drink and a bath."

The young fellow does just that, returning to the room later that evening.

"So, next step is to get to Waypoint, in the Emerald Kingdom," he recalls. The lad gives the spellcasters a glance. "I don't suppose any of you have a way to do that quickly, and safely?"

The Tide pile in at Pour Me More and quickly find themselves with drink and food. The other two patrons make a bit of room and provide a 'hi' smile, but keep to themselves . It seems that common tables is a mighty common thing here. The group discussion rolls through some of what the Tide has done and hits a few specifics on the Rakshasa.
The Tide first got put on the trail when tracking down some rogue agents of considerable rank within separate Houses of Dirt City. Some form of domination that left the memory in tatters, allowing for some autonomy and seemingly locked in a nightmare.
After that, the Rakshasa struck back through assassins taking a terrible toll on those associated to The Tide.
Eventually The Tide routed the assassins, uncovered and put down an alliance between Gaal and the Rakshasa and rooted out dozens of replaced high ranking officials within Dirt City Oh and they also destroyed a 'farm'. don't ask, yes it was that bad

Now if the portents of Wardd are to be believed, and why shouldn't they. Dirt City was just one operation controlled by the Rakshasa with the golden eyes

refreshed, fed, bathed, cleaned up, relaxed and drinks in hand the topic is how to get to the Emerald Kingdom and specifically Waypoint.

Danko has never been and so it could be exciting if he were to teleport there and he could not bring the entire group in a single spell

I do have a spell kinda like teleport. It should get us there, but walking in the shadow realm can be a little dangerous sometimes.

Gaffer gets another drink too and feels the tension of the road truly slipping away. He's about ready to curl up infront of a fire.

"I can teleport us through plants which we can do pretty accurately with a direction and distance. My next best option is to turn is into fast flying vapor with a Wind Walk spell. If we dress up in white we'd look just like clouds! If we're not so comfortable with the options, I don't mind travelling the old fasioned way."

Hmerrin questions the casters on the various spells they've offered up.

The more he hears about Gaffer's Wind Walk spell, the more he likes it.
It's fast. You see where you're going and can stop whenever you want. Best of all, you're not "teleporting", so chances of waking up inside a teucri artifact are slim and none.

"So, its basically walking, but faster," he sums up, nodding enthusiastically.
"Let's do that one."

The next day, Hmerrin finds a WLA house (hopefully), and attempts to figure out where Waypoint is in relation to Angel Springs, and what geographic and/or person made features lie along the way that can be used as checkpoints.

It takes the better part of a day for the group to get the supplies they want to make the option of Wind Walking meet with the greatest chance for success. Hmerrin is able to to get some rough maps and pieces together that if the group follows the river outside of Angel Springs to the northwest the group will find the small town of Hovel/ From there, the river forks and the southern branch will lead to Traders Corner, which is no more than a couple of shacks and eventually to Edenmoor. This is the route some took upon the River Rat from Dirt City. At Edenmoor the group will veer west along the great West Trade road to the Tree of Parting and then beyond that, Waypoint should be the next town. There is not much information to be had about WayPoint, other than it is a good sized town that benefits greatly as the first stop upon the Trade Road connecting to New Elenna

The journey is going to be a several hundred miles, no problem for the spell and should take a few hours less than half a day to complete

So, the group is off. Exiting Angel Springs, the party gathers up for the Wind Walk spell and soon you are moving at great speed and climbing into the sky to get a good view of th river and your journey

From several hundred feet up, the landscape sails out beneath you and rushes by at tremendous speed. Several large flat bottom boats are heading up and downstream this day and the nearby fields of wheat and corn backed by furroughs of hedges and trees make for a beautiful day to be among the clouds

The Tide sweeps past Hovel and cuts south, soon passing over Traders Corner, though from your height, the fork in the river is more a guide than the buildings blended into the trees below. 45 minutes later and the party spies Edenmoor as you pass beyond the forests and the Red Hills and onto the rugged lands that become Izen

Banking to the west, you soar above the Trade Road and within another hour you come upon one of the Wonders of the Wold, The Tree of Parting. Resembling a great oak, but more massive than anyone, particularly Gaffer, thought possible, this singular tree is nearly 650' high with a girth of a small keep. You are past in moments and within another hour, below you see what must be the town of Waypoint

Once he gets over the sensation of being so high, Hmerrin seriously enjoys the trip.
It is just like walking, only faster!

He notes that big honking tree in the back his mind.
That would be worth seeing from the ground.

As what must be Waypoint makes its appearance, the fighter heads downward.
He's aiming for an out-of-the-way spot a mile or so short of the town and just off the road.
No point in just appearing at the place.

Once everyone is down, he checks his gear.
"If I remember right, the vision was in front of The Way Back Inn, and one of the Rakas mentioned tunnels under a library. Since we need a place to rack anyway, how 'bout we find this inn, and we can ask about libraries. Probably leave that to Nira and Ramirez. I don't look much like the library type"

With that, the young man heads for town.

"I'm glad I ate a light lunch," thinks Desdichado as they travel through the air. Once the initial queasiness eases, he actually enjoys the trip and is glad they could make it to Waypoint in such a short amount of time and the chance to see so many parts of the Wold he's never been to before.

He nods his head at Hmerrin's plan.

Before the group heads off Nira casts a Tishe's Weave Elements spell and creates six vests out of the air itself.

"Here you go" she says handing one to each member of the group "They'll make you a little harder to hit should we get into another fight"

Nira smiles broadly at the thought of visiting some libraries. Maybe she'll even find some places to buy some books? Wait... no. The focus is on finding some tunnels under the libraries - not reading books. Still, couldn't hurt to look around.

The sorcerer rubs his hands together and thankfully takes one of the vests.
