Tsak is quite used to Rolth's speechifying, but this one is something special and he lets his companion know it with a wink and a nod as Rolth finishes.
What really floors him though is Mak's news about his mended leg and broken cup. Does this mean his pal will be less iritable and, and, possibly... sober? Will the real Mak please stand up. Of course all this occurs underneath the half-orc's normal, impassive face.
Tsak takes in the ceremony, touched by the obvious love that the people have for their erstwhile leader. At the festival he finds an out-of-the-way place to sit with Esmerelda and engage in some people watching, learning what he can about the centaurs as he watches them prance, cavort, duel and so much more.

As promised, Kiwina offers a few words as well. (Roll in previous post.)
"Let me take a moment to talk about some of the things that Rolth has mentioned. He and I were two of the three taurs who joined together to undertake the Taurnament of Roses. The third, was Sable the minotaur. We were swiftly joined by another minotaur, Gothruk, and several non-taurs, to form a team for the competition.
Sable left us while we were on Liontaur Isle, prior to our arrest of Carlyn. Have any of you heard of Carlyn? If not, have any of you seen our ship, the Rose and her crew? Among that crew you will have noticed some unusual members -- centaurs, liontaurs, and minotaurs who were experimented on by the witch Carlyn. You may look at them and shudder inside -- I have seen leaders among the tauric peoples who would no longer refer to them as taurs. Others of you have dealt with them in your work, or formed friendships, and know that they have suffered some misfortune but not become monsters. I have also seen leaders among our peoples recognize and commend the inner nobility that my crew still possess."
"We encountered the brambletaurs first while we were contending with the havoc that the Sar was then wreaking on the Wold. During that time you may recall the birth of children who showed signs of the other races. We saw them on Liontaur Isle, wemic children with hooves or horns. Their parents whispered their fears that these children would never be accepted by others, but I did not see any parents turn away from their own child. After the Sar was calmed, the children grew into their parents types. But what if they had not?"
"As I have faith that parents would not abandon their children, and as I have seen the brambletaurs accepted in the ports we have visited, I believe that finding common ground with the minotaurs and liontaurs is something we can do, and at the end was Pholus'es wish."
"And has anyone told you the story of our trip back here from Bridge Island? Pholus, Barbale, and Timapius were safely aboard the Pounding Fury, attended by half of my friends here in addition to the crew of that ship. Our ship, the Rose, was attacked by creatures of the sea -- magical monstrosities form from swarming eels. Pholus, Barbale, and Timapius were still weak from their ordeals. But when they saw we were in trouble, they jumped in a boat with those of my friends who were on their ship, and came to join the battle. They did not say, There's only one centaur over there. They did not say, A battle right now could easily take more than we have to give. No, they said What can we do to help? and did it."
"I am sure that a leader like that will be missed."

Son Imod does not realize that Hollyhocks is glad that Wil did not offer to Eulogize Pholus.
After his friends give their eloquent speeches, Son Imod is a little intimidated but he did promise to speak and speak the truth so speak he does.
Son Imod clears his throat and says, "I am a newcomer to these Petals. I grew up in a sheltered life and orphan raised by a human master in the ways of Martial Arts and Herbalism, a strange combination I know but anyway, one day I had a dream in which Imod himself came to me and told me that He was losing patience with His children and that the time has come for us, Taurs, as a collective I mean, to put aside our petty differences. These were of course His Words and I am paraphrasing as I am addressing all of you. He asked me if I would humble myself and seek out a good beyond that which merely benefits Minotaurs. I agreed to do so and as such he directed me to seek out Nyloth and have him take me to the metal door. I did as Lord Imod commanded and after I made my way to Nyloth and after a brief excursion through a dungeon that which I was told later by some of the other Petals that I was extremely lucky to have made it through to them without incident I came upon the scene that other members of my party have described Pholus, Barebale and Timapius trapped inside the Triune Mirrors of Imod. Working together the Petals, which consist of a Liontaur, a Centaur, several representatives from the noble races and now myself a Minotaur, who I must admit, I am just learning I am following in the footsteps of two other Minotaurs before me, worked together to get Pholus, Barebale and Timapius out of the mirrors and to safely navigate the mirrors out of the dungeon, across the land, back to the port where the Rose and the Pounding Fury were moored and then across the water back here. I only knew Pholus briefly and let me tell you he was committed to his quest, the same quest that I myself am committed to and that is to honor Imod's wishes and see all Taurs finally reunited whether we be Centaur, Liontaur or Minotaur. He would not be swayed from his quest either. He potentially had the chance to be cured of the wasting disease he contracted while in the mirror but he would not take it as it would mean putting aside his duty and spending who knows how long among the Fey court. Pholus, Barebale and Timapius all rejected the offer as they were committed to seeing the mirrors home and the Taurs reunited. Lastly, let me just say Pholus honored us Petals by sharing a bottle of blue wine with us once, he really did walk the walk with respect to uniting the Taur races and I would ask all of you to join me in following in his rather large footsteps to insure that Imod's request is fulfilled."

Mak had decided that Rolth was right about him speaking, especially after that rousing eulogy from the Taur. Being respectful Mak made certain the petals in the audience had been briefed on how one might comport themselves at a state service such as this.
Surprisingly Mak's military uniform was pressed and clean. Today he wore only his families rapier as more of a show piece than weapon as he'd left his bow behind. The rapier had a ceremonial peace knot wrapped loosely around the hilt which effectively did nothing to stop him from drawing it, but it looked pretty.

Mak nods agreement with Rolth's suggestion then informs everyone that since the battle with the Galvo's his leg pain is gone, and that somehow, his magic mug got broken. He wonders if these are a sign from Pantheon, or a result from their visit with Queen Maab.
Wil realizes that Hollyhocks is uncomfortable, and recognizes why. Some of his "friends" are a little put out about that, but WIl has the final say. At the festival he does some shooting with his hand crossbows, and tells some stories.
Rolth does some entertaining, and then gives a fine speech at the festival.
Tsak is impressed by Rolth's speech, gestures his approval. He is moved by the love the centaurs held for their lost leader. He finds a quiet place to do some people watching. What really floors the ranger is Mak's announcement.
Falco offers some encouragement tot Rolth, than participates in the festival activities.
At first the crowd is split into 3 crowds, when Rolth takes the stage. There are those who see his Marks, and recognize him as a hero of Domi. These are prepared to listen intently to everything Rolth has to say. There are those who see a liontaur take the stage with complete indifference, Hero of Domi or not. These don't seem to care one way or the other. Finally, there are those who see a liontaur take the stage and begin snarling under there breath. It is obvious that this latter group are a little offended that a liontaur would dare speak at such an event, or perhaps step foot on Centaur altogether. By the time the speech is done, everyone is listening intently. whether they take the words to heart or not is any ones guess.
When Kiwina gives his speech, he has the benefits of being a centaur, and following Rolth. He notices a small but positive change in the crowd, and when Son Imod speaks, the Minotaur gets some polite nods.
The over all vibe of the crowd has seemed to move up a step up on the diplomacy scale, those who were listening intently are cheering by the end. those who were indifferent seem to be nodding in agreement, and those who where slightly hostile seem to be less so, and some of those seem to have even moved to a point of indifference. Overall the speeches appear to have been an overwhelming success.

Mak's behavior at the celebration continued to be appropriate for such an event. Though some others went for the celebration of life angle, Mak held to a more somber line. Though he had not the creative spark of his friend Rolth, Mak did try to accompany him with a few of his tunes with his own mandolin. Mostly he kept trying to keep up with the more experienced taur, but eventually just clapped along to the beat with everyone else. By the second tune Mak had gotten his rhythm and played acceptably for the remainder of the evening but he was clearly not the star Rolth was. This evening Rolth was shining as well he should. What was happening here was what he preached everyday and Mak was happy to see the change come about among the people of Taur island.
Later when all was quieter Mak confided in Tsak. "As I fell to the deck of the Rose I felt something snap in my leg. Like a bowstring releasing after having been taunt for several minutes. Last I remember was the pain of it as i fell. When I woke at the banquet table the pain was gone."

Elyas lets the others do the talking, but takes note of the change in the crowd's demeanor. it is a good sign that they respond even slightly positively to such a large breach in tradition, and Rolth has always been good at smoothing things over.

Mak is dressed in his military uniform, which to the surprise of all who know him, is pressed, and wrinkle free. he wears his family rapier, all prettyfied. He carries himself in an appropriate fashion, for the occasion, and participates in a fencing competition. Latter he explains to Mak the events that lead to his leg being healed. His fencing opponent is small by centaur standards, and lacks the normal physical strength of his fellow centaurs, but what he lacks in size he makes up for in speed. However, Mak manages to parry his attack, and lands one of his own, winning his competition.
Elyas avoids the stage, but is pleased with the outcome of the speeches. He watches the events, though he feels out matched, so he doesn't participate. All the time he keeps his eyes peeled for signs of "The Deep", but he doesn't see anything that would reveal their presence.
Wil cheers for his friends, and proceeds to get intoxicated.
Rolth mingles with the crowd, and it seems, after his speech, he has become a sort of favorite, among the crowd, and people keep offering to by him drinks. He chats with those of authority, and especially asks Peloius, and Pholus's comrades, how they plan on proceeding, and what their reaction to the liontaur offer may be. Timapius answers by saying, "Of course, I really have no say, but if I did, I would except the offer with gladness. Pelonius says, "If I'm elected Lead Stallion, I will gladly embrace the offer. Barbale oddly doesn't answer and Rolth gets the impression that she has something weighing on her mind. The over all vibe Rolth gets from the crowd is a positive one.
Kiwina mingles with the crowd, but gravitates to those of a nautical profession.
Tsak is glad to here Mak's story, and watches him win his duel. He keeps an eye on Wil, as Wil proceeds to get well into his cups.
Son Imod loses his wrestling match, (rolled a 34) to a beast of a centaur, but gets redemption, as he beats the same centaur in an arm wrestling match later in the day.
The over all vibe of the festivities is joy mixed with sadness. The speeches of the Petals seem to have been successful, as even those who were some of the most hard-line traditionalists, at least acknowledge that "maybe" their ways can be reviewed. Of course the hard-liners make no commitment to review their views, but luckily they are in a very small minority.
As the afternoon turns to evening, Barbale steps on the stage. Rolth can tell that what ever is weighing on her mind, is still doing so, and may be the reason she is taking the stage. She clears her throat, and the crowd hushes to listen to the noble mare. She says, "Friends, as you know, Pholus put both my name and Pelonius's name forward for the next Lead Stallion. No one else has put their name in the ring, and the election is in a couple of days. I have thought long and hard about this, and I have decided that I would not be the best centaur for the job. Yes I was there with our noble lord at Bridge Island, and yes I learned the same lessons he did, but Pelonius didn't need to go through the trials I did, to be humbled. Instead, she has always held the belief that all taurs are worthy, that all efforts ought to be made to reconcile our differences, and the noble races have much to teach us, as well as learn from us. These views, in the past, I thought were both foolish and naive. I now regret that, and share her views. As a result I feel Pelonius should be our next Lead Stallion, and so I now withdraw my name from the race. With the death of our great leader, we need to fill his seat post-haste, and so since she is now running unopposed, I say we skip the formalities and just name Pelonius our new Lead Stallion. All in favor say aye....."
Not a single centaur oppose the idea, and they all begin cheering Pelonius's name.

Elyas is surprised by Barbale's statement. Not that she would pull out of the race, but that she would push to rush the vote and push Pelonius's immediate election.
this is too fast he thinks and breaking too many rules and traditions all at once. there's no way this will go over well
He raises a finger, about to voice an objection, but thinks better of it as the whole crowd somehow gets behind the crazy declaration.
Once he is able, he will speak with Barbale and urge her to reconsider. "I understand your desire to leave the race. and to support Pelonius, who is clearly a good candidate. But removing the vote is foolish. your leader has only just passed away, it is possible that there are excellent candidates who have not yet had time to process the death and upcoming election.
"further, Pholus put forth a statement that a Mare should lead, but it is no longer his choice. there may be stallions who want to run, and the voice of the people should have the chance to choose between his wish for change and someone more traditional. even if the vote is an absolute landslide, the vote should be allowed to happen or you lose legitimacy for the changes that both of you and Pholus wanted to see.

I admit that as an outsider here I do not know your nomination process but could other potential leaders throw their hat into the ring as it were between now and your typical election day or are your vote selections limited to the replacements your previous leader puts forth? If only a single candidate exists does that candidate have to get a certain amount of the vote typically in order to still become your leader? Have you ever had only a single candidate in the past and how did that work out historically? I admit there is a lot that I don't know but when it comes to elections I believe the reason they happen is you want citizens to feel as if they have a say in the process of determining who should lead and if a segment of the population believes that things were unfair with respect to the process then that breeds discord among the people. Also I know Pholus suggested a mare should become your leader but if your first mare leader is coronated instead of elected could that also cause hard feelings amongst some of your people? I am not saying don't make Pelonius your leader, I am just saying if you typically observe certain practices in elevating someone to leader that you do so with Pelonius so that everyone of your people feels like they had a say in the process and that she became leader following your normal process. If she becomes leader in an unusual fashion could another faction use that as a basis for a coup attempt under your laws? Again I admit I am ignorant about much concerning your traditions and history but I agree with Elyas's concerns and I just want to make sure that the potential consequences of skipping the election you typically would have have been thought through."

Rolth to is concerned, though he is relieved that this was what was on Barbales mind, and that she wasn't questioning what she learned. He prepares to help Pelonius, and watches her to determain what she will do.
Tsak tells Mak to watch Wil, as he makes his way to the others, just in case things go south.
Son Imod admits his ignorance to centaur politics, but he worries that this may be a breech in protocol to far, and that it may be considered an unfair election by those who would oppose change.
Falco praises the oratory skils of his friends, but when Barbale does what she does, he to worries about how this will effect the future. He is certain Barbale did what she truly believes is the right thing.
Pelonius seems a bit shocked by Barbale's announcement, but she doesn't seem overly concerned about it.
Barbale seem relieved as she walks off the stage, only to be confronted by the Petals. She responds in a humble yet noble manner saying, "I truly believe that what I did here was the right thing to do. I feel Pelonius should be the next Lead Stallion, and I will do everything I can to make that happen. I appreciate your concerns, but though my actions are irregular, they aren't without precedent. On Centaur Island, we don't believe in a long election cycle. we simply announce an election will be happening, and give a few days for people to put their name on the ballot, then a week later we vote. When the current Lead Stallion makes the declaration, that they are standing down, like Pholus did, they usually gives a recommendation, or like this case, a couple of options. than the process begins. People have 3 days to put forth any other names, and then the election happens a week later, with the whole process taking roughly 10 days. In the rare case of an unopposed candidate, we usually forgo the election, and just name that individual the Lead Stallion. We are practical folk and see no point in asking our people to go to the polls just for formalities sake, besides, I doubt anyone would go anyway. It has now been 4 days since Pholus made his announcement, and only Pelonius and my names were on the ballot, so with me dropping out, that left Pelonius running unopposed. I appreciate your concern, friends, but things are as they should be.
As Barbale explains her actions and the political ways of Centaur Island, Pelonius takes the stage. There is much cheering, as the people continue to chant her name. Pelonius gives the universal sign to calm down so she can speak, and the crowd goes silent.
"My fellow centaurs, I must admit that this came as a shock to me. I never really expected to win the election, and honestly I'm not sure I wanted to. That said I will strive to lead the good people of this island with fairness, and justice. I recognize that not everyone has shared my views about the unification of the taurs, and seeking better relations with the noble races, views that, like Barbale said, I have held for a long time, but believe me when I say, I will never alienate or disregard someone with a differing view. Instead, like I've always done, I will strive to explain why I believe what I do, and if that individual decides to disregard my words, I will not think less of them for it. That said, regardless of your opinion of the other taur races, we can all agree that improved trade relations with the other islands is a good thing, at least when it comes to profit. According to our friends from the Eight Petaled Rose, the liontaurs have extended their hand in friendship, and have asked for an increase in trade relations. I believe both Centaur and Liontaur islands will benefit greatly from an increase in trade, and so, as my first act as Lead Stallion, I will send an envoy to Liontaur Island to begin trade negotiations. Thank you my friends, and with the guidance of Domi, let us move forward as a people!"
After her speech, Pelonius walks off the stage, and the roar of the crowd is almost deafening, as it chants her name.

Mak leaned against the table with the drink in his hand while the centaurs worked it out along them who would take the blame for all decisions made in the next few years. Mak didn’t really care who lead who as long as they were directed by their own thoughts and minds. His experience on these islands was that the people here would do as they pleased. He’d not be able to sway their opinions either way so he just sat and toasted whoever claimed to have won.
”I like these centaurs” Mak admitted to Tsak when he returned. ”but if they start beating on one another I’m out. I’ll sit and enjoy the ale.”

"The utter irresponsibility," Wil huffed. His voice changed and feminine. A "proper" tone with "proper" posture character appeared to take on Wil's body. "We are going to head to a proper church to get some holy water. Bartender, do you know where we can find some silver dust? Wil then made the rounds and filled his head with the updates from recently. "I think Pelonius would make a great leader," Wil says. "Are we going to..." Wil stopped when interrupted by another voice. "That was unkind," he says. "Sure, I will not ask that question for sake of YOUR superstition. We will just wait to see what happens. I will just finish shopping, I guess."

Son Imod says to Pelonius, "I understand wanting to prioritize relations with Liontaurs seeing as they actively reached out to you first as your father intended to do the same thing and I had this same discussion with him but you are going to also reach out to my people, the Minotaurs, at some point too? I must admit as an orphan raised by a human I may not be the best representative for my kind but it would be remiss of me to not advocate for my people when I have the chance. I am committed to seeing our races work together and flourish as Imod intended but I would hate to see something that started out as a mission to unite all 3 taur races end up turning into something that united 2 of the races against the 3rd. Do not mistake my concern for an accusation as I do not think that you would intend for this to happen but sometimes what we intend and what comes to be are not one and the same. I would hate for the Minotaurs to learn of communications between the Liontaurs and Centaurs and misinterpret things as them being excluded. We can be a war footed people at times."

Rolth's offer to be the centaurs bait caused Mak to bring his hand to his forehead. Mention of glorious purpose or progress just evoked a groan from the young nobleman. He'd heard zealots in the past with the same proclamations of hope and a greater tomorrow turn out to be charlatans and mind sucking plants.
Although Mak knew with Rolth that wasn't the case, that he wasn't a mind sucking plant, Mak just wished they'd find different words to express their enthusiasm for their purpose in life...and maybe be a little less enthusiastic. At the bottom of it all was likely to bottom of all things, the ocean. And nothing anyone could or would say was going to make the possibility of entering the depths of the sea more appealing.
"I bet it's cold where that Kraken is." Mak said under his breath as his eyes cut from beneath his hand to Tsak.
DM Jeremy Battle Map Thursday February 3rd, 2022 10:51:39 AM
Mak doesn't care who the next leader is, as long as they are on the right path. He has come to learn that he isn't going to sway the taurs, so he toasts the winner.
Wil, asks the bartender where he can obtain some silver dust, and the bartender tells him there is a silversmith down the road, about a block, he could ask there. Wil believes that Pelonius will make a great leader, and starts to ask a question, but is cut off by one of his "friends".
Elyas accepts Barbale's explanation, admitting his ignorance to centaur ways. When Pelonius mentions a envoy, he looks to his fellow Petals and suggests that maybe they will be asked to help out there.
Kiwina answers Elyas by saying they will probably find out tomorrow. upon learning that everything is on the up and up, concerning the election, he is able to enjoy the celebration.
Rolth has a lot to be pleased about, and asks his fellow Petals if they should volunteer to help out with the envoy.
Tsak isn't sure what he would rather do, deal with the deep or be an envoy, as he's none to keen on politics. Tsak makes his way over to Mak and joins him in his cups. On the way back to the Rose, he stops at the catacombs for a purchase.
Son Imod pulls Pelonius aside and shares his concerns. He asks if she plans to communicate with the Minotaurs, as he fears they may feel ganged up on if they aren't included. Pelonius places her hand on the minotaurs shoulder, and says, "I appreciate your concern, and I in no ways desire or plan to avoid the minotaurs. I have to be careful not to over exert my beliefs by ramming new policies down my peoples throats, I truly believe that change is on the horizon, and now I understand that I am to play a role in that change, but to move too fast could cause disaster to fall. My plan is to show the people the benefits of quality trade relations with the liontaurs, who made the first move, by asking us, and than when the people see the value to said relations, I will put forth the idea of extending those trade relations to include the minotaurs."
Mak isn't overly keen on offering themselves to be the envoy, or it's baby sitters, as he fears that can only lead to a confrontation with the kraken.
The night goes late, but eventually it begins to wind down. As the Petals are heading back to either the Rose or the guest house, depending where they wish to spend the night, they are approached by the young liontaur/centaur couple they met and ferried here. The young couple seems overjoyed at seeing the Petals again, and thanks them for all their help, as well as for their efforts to end taur on taur hate. With the voices of two people who are desperately in love, they enthusiastically invite the Petals to there weeding which will be happening in a few days. They claim they have a priest lined up, but if one of the priestly types, within the Petals, would rather fill the role, they would consider that to be a great honor.

It was true. Wil was a special kind of crazy and Mak returned to the guest quarters to retire for the evening. The whole leadership issue in at the gathering made Mak a little nervous, so he changed into his adventuring gear, donned his armor and packed everything away for a quick exit. Before he lay down for the night he made certain his weapons were close by and then closed his eyes to rest.

Kiwina does not exactly favor putting a ballista on the Rose. It would mark the ship as a combatant, and Kiwina thinks they are more likely to depend on diplomacy around the islands. Plus, Mak in the crow's nest is probably more effective. But he won't try to overrule the group if they think it is best.

But I don't feel strongly about it if not everyone agrees. More importantly, Captain Kiwina, would you be willing to partner with me to officiate the wedding for this young couple. I think it would be nice symmetry to have a liontaur shaman and centaur druid present this wonderful union. Will you do it?"

Tsak makes his way back to the Rose.
As he looks over the ship in the moonlight he tries to imagine a ballista and where it would sit. He comes to the conclusion that it would only add weight and slow them down. Currently the biggest weapon the Rose has is speed and manouvreability thanks to her steam powered fan. He wonders whether a big lump of metal would thwart that. Also he won't be able to afford it after he's bought some shiny new armor.

However, providing we are still in town at the time I would be more than happy to bear witness to your blessed union."
(OOC: Can Taur hybrids exist? I know the 3 species of Taur were once a single species with characteristics of all 3 individual races but could you have a half-liontaur / half-centaur? I ask because if this is possible I might want to play as a hybrid in a future campaign)

Falco is a little more at ease, now that things have been explained, though he does believe time will be the deciding factor. He asks what is to be done with the mirrors. He suggests putting a ballista, on the Rose. Falco graciously declines the offer to officiate the wedding, claiming the Warper-Sar may not be the higher power they want blessing their nuptials.
One of Wil's "friends" suggests that Wil would be happy to officiate the wedding, and that Wil would like the idea of a few ballista. She asks how they would do that, and if they should pool their money.
Mak is reminded about Wil's "special" status. He feels a little on edge after the leadership scenario, so he donns his armor, and makes sure his weapons are at the ready. Mak has dreams of past battles, and mixed taurs
Elyas is happy to attend the wedding, but he is no priest. He likes the idea of mounting ballista, on the Rose.
Kiwina isn't keen on the idea of arming the rose, as he doesn't want people to think they are a threat when they are trying to be diplomatic. That said, he will go with the flow. He says he will be happy to attend the wedding.
Rolth says that he thinks the biggest benefit of a ballista would be for the crew to be able to defend themselves. He asks Kiwina to join him in officiating the wedding.
Tsak tries to imagine a ballista on the Rose, and concludes that speed is the Rose's greatest weapon, and he worries that a ballista may slow it down.
(OOC... Ballista cost 500 gp, do 3d8 damage, have a 19-20 crit range, fire up to 120 ft. and take a 5 ft space. They can be made masterwork and enchanted (though the enchanting costs twice the normal amount), and they can wear armor (treated as a huge creature). A small creature firing a ballista takes a -6 on attack rolls, and a medium takes a -4 (Large don't take any penalties). A large creature can load it as a full round action, but smaller creatures require 2 full round actions, a single large creature can load it buy themselves, but it takes 2 smaller creatures to do the job.)
The majority of the Petals seem to be wanting to arm the Rose, with only Kiwina and Tsak against the idea. Everyone is happy to attend the wedding, though whether or not we see a centaur/liontaur priestly combo is up to Kiwina. The Petals are told that the wedding will be held in 3 days, and that they will have seats of honor, and that the couple inform Rolth and Kiwina that they love the idea of the dual race officiates.
Pelonius answers Falco's question by saying, "I will definitely make sure the other taurs receive their mirror, in fact I plan on sending the Liontaur's mirror along with the envoy, with a near future envoy taking the minotaur's mirror to them." Overhearing the conversation, Hollyhocks speaks up and says, "I was waiting for an opportunity to bring this up, but it hasn't happened until now. As you know, I've been seeking guidance as to the uses for the mirrors, and last night I had a dream. In the dream I saw a liontaur standing in front of the liontaur mirror, a minotaur standing in front of the minotaur mirror, and a centaur standing in front of the centaur mirror. They all were touching the frame of their mirror, and were able to see and communicate with each other. I then saw them all step into their mirror, and they all entered a nice room with a round table in the middle, they all gathered around the table, and it seemed as though they were discussing something, though I don't know what. I got the impression that the 3 taurs were all leaders of their kind, and that they were working together, inside the "mirror room", on gods knows what. Whatever they were working on, they all seemed to be working as equals, and of one mind. Rolth thanks Kiwina for being willing to join in officiating, and asks Hollyhocks for guidance on how to do it in a way that will be acceptable to most of the locals.
With respect to the mirrors, Rolth is enthusiastic about carrying one back to the liontaurs, and also wonders whether Pelonius thinks it might be a good idea for us to carry along the minotaur one to take to the Purple Duke after we go back to Liontaur Isle. That way the mirror and envoy would be protected by the Petals, and we could make introductions to the Duke. Rolth will not insist on this path if Pelonius has other plans, but wants to offer it as an option.
Rolth also suggests that a schedule be proposed for timing when the various taur leaders will attempt to contact each other. There may be a way to tell when one leader is trying to reach the others, but if not, perhaps having a regular schedule, at least to start off with, would be a good idea. For example, it could be set at noon of the first day of each five-day week.

Elyas comments on the usefulness, of the mirrors, assuming of course that Hollyhocks's dream is real. he asks the other Petals what they should do in the days leading up to the wedding.
Mak volunteers to play bouncer at the wedding, in case anyone wishes to interfere with the joyous day. he wishes to give some special training to Elmer, though he learns that no one in town has such skills. (I don't believe that trick is Woldian) he also makes a few mundane purchases.
Wil goes to purchase some silver dust, and the silver smith is happy to oblige. when asked about arming the rose, the smith suggest asking around the shipyard, he says he has heard that their is a ship builder down their who can outfit a ship for navel combat.
Kiwina tells Rolth that he would be willing to help officiate, but says he will has to follow Rolth's lead as he is unfamiliar with weeding practices. he adds that he will only do so if Pelonius gives her blessing. Kiwina suggest asking Ramsey about the ballista.
Tsak is happy for some down time, and plans on doing some shopping. He is looking forward to the wedding and wishes the couple much deserved happiness. He is encouraged by Hollyhocks's dream, and after a good nights sleep, on the Rose, he goes with Mak to see Elmer.
Rolth thanks Kiwina for agreeing to help with the wedding, and ask Hollyhocks for guidance. Of course the cleric is happy to oblige. He wishes to deliver the mirror to the liontaurs, and than continue on and deliver the minotaur's mirror as well. He asks Peolnius's opinion about that, and offers to make introductions to the Purple Duke. Finally he suggests the 3 leaders make a schedule to get together regularly.
Son Imod is fine with a ballista, but admits he needs to be educated on their functionality. He volunteers the Petal's services in delivering the minotaur's mirror.
Pelonius with a very stern face says, "I will only agree to the wedding under one condition!" She then breaks out in laughter as she says, "And that condition is that I'm invited!" Caliphon and Yuria simultaneously let out a sigh of relief when Pelonius shares her "condition" and than Caliphon says, "You are most welcome my lady, But I never thought such a noble person would desire to attend such a humble wedding." To which Pelonius responds, "Nonsense, there is no such thing as a humble wedding. There is nothing more noble than the love and uniting of two individuals. I will consider it an honor to attend." Caliphon and Yuria both blush as the new Lead Stallion speaks and thanks her for her kind words and desire to attend.
Pelonius says to the petals, concerning the mirrors, "You have done so much already, I was struggling to bring myself to ask you to accompany the mirrors, but I must confess that I would feel much better if I knew you guys were there to protect the envoy, and their precious cargo. I agree that the mirrors should find their proper homes as soon as possible, and as soon as the envoy delivers the liontaur's mirror, they should continue on to Minotaur Island, Though I have no idea how long negotiations will take on Liontaur Island."

Tsak watches as Mak walks Elmer thru what he wants him to do time and time again. And time and time again the horse fails to understand anything except the sugar cube in his friends hand. Whilst he can appreciate Mak's dilemma after facing similar issues with the headstrong Esmerelda, that doesn't stop him from finding the whole process hilarious.
Later back on deck he catches up with news about the wedding, the mission of the mirrors and the arming of The Rose.

The fact that the builder may be able to arm the Rose. He asks if anyone would like to accompany him and how they were going to split up the cost. "Maybe three, how many should we purchase? I don't think we want to come across as a warship, we may need to be less obvious due to our diplomatic work but we need to protect ourselves and the crew."

Kiwina suggests that Elyas learn a place here on Centaur Island well enough to teleport to it, just in case.
As far as ballistae go, Kiwina was serious about getting Ramsey's input. As Rolth pointed out, such a thing will give the crew a chance to influence a fight. If the crew isn't ready and willing, Kiwina still doesn't see much point.
Kiwina spends the next day working with Rolth and Hollyhocks -- and the young couple -- on what sort of ceremony the young couple ought to have.

Elyas isn't surprised about Pelonius's request, and suggests it's time to load the mirrors again, though he isn't sure when they will actually be leaving port, though it is clear that it will be after the wedding.
Tsak finds Mak's efforts to train Elmer to be quite comical. even though it hits a little close to home, reminding him of his efforts with Esmeralda. Back at the Rose he catches up with all the going ons.
Wil relates his findings on the ship builder who can arm a ship, and asks how may they should consider adding. He ask how they should split the cost, and who would like to join him, to go meet the craftsman.
Mak comes up with another idea for training Elmer to return to the nearest town when ordered to do so, and after a few ideas, he decides that if he treats the returning as a performance, maybe he can get the horse to do his bidding. (Feel free to roll your handle animal check to teach the preform trick. DC 15)
KIwina suggests that Elyas find a safe spot to teleport to, here on Centaur Island, just in case. he doubles down on his desire to get Ramsey's opinion before arming the Rose, and spends the day with Rolth, Hollyhocks, and the young couple, on planning the perfect wedding.
Rolth works with Kiwina, Hollyhocks, and the couple on the wedding, he helps load the mirrors back onto the Rose, and he sits in on the conversation with Ramsey about the ballista
Son Imod asks if they can wait until after the wedding before heading out on the mirror delivery mission. Pelonius answers, Of course, It's going to take a few days to put together the envoy, as well as write a letter of introduction for each of the other taur leaders, and outfit the whole endeavor. let's say you ship out the day after the wedding, that should give me plenty of time to finish the things I need to do.
Falco is glad that they found someone who can out fit the Rose, but agrees that asking Ramsey his opinion is wise. He shares his concerns with the skipper.
The Petals make their way back to the Rose, to ask Ramsey for his opinion, on arming the ship, and the brambletaur answers, "I can see the value in both arming the Rose, and leaving her as is. As diplomats, a show of force can be either a boon or a bane, depending on the situation, that said giving the crew the chance to defend against threats, can also be a boon or a bane. In other words, I see the value and downside of both sides of the coin. I can't make this decision for you, because honestly, I can't decide which is better. If you decide to add ballista, I would recommend three as a logical number. It's enough to give the Rose some teeth, without transforming her into a war ship. It might help the crew to feel more at ease having a few ballista, on deck, but they will need to be trained on the proper use, of the siege weapons, we don't want a freaked out sailor firing prematurely on anyone."

So far we have managed to repel attackers using our own weapons and a bit of magic, will ballistas give us enough extra might without making us too threatening for diplomatic missions? that fight against the eel-men was rough but i don't think ballistas would have accomplished anything there. same with the fight against the pirates. what do you all think?

On the point of Ballista, Mak pointed out that they wouldn't do much for raiding parties coming over the rail but they would discourage ships whose captains thought about coming alongside. He didn't mention that they'd come in handy against sea monsters, mostly because he didn't like those thoughts in his head.
Elsewhere he tried to train Elmer as he worked with the animal, but it looked like it was going to take a couple of weeks at the rate he was going.

Well... planning is probably not the best word. Why would we plan for that? Anyways, I still think it would be good to have a couple. Can we control them all at once with magic, if needed. That would be cool. "

Kiwina considers helping Mak train Elmer, but he has little skill with animals. Tsak probably has much more.
"What fights have we had on the Rose? Harpies, goblin pirates, merrow, different pirates, the eel things."
For all that taurs tend to follow Domi, Kiwina can't imagine a marriage ceremony that focuses on courage. Perhaps Flower or Serenbeth. He most definitely cannot envision Ffloy as suitable for such a ceremony. Or perhaps the gods can be left out of it. It isn't about them, after all. . .
To be clear, I can only see the ballistae being used against other ships or large creatures that are beside the Rose. Firing at something that is already on the ship is a recipe for disaster. Too much chance of hitting the ship, the rigging or the crew. I'm still against them, but if we are to have them then I would think that two, one fore and one aft would be enough.
As Mak continues to work with Elmer, Tsak gives him a hand where he can. He is dubious as to how helpful he has been.

Elyas feels Ramsey brings up some good points, and as a result questions if ballista are necessary.
Mak explains that their are some situations when ballista would come in handy, and other times when they wouldn't be as useful. Now that he has a path, he realizes that training Elmer is going to take some time.
Wil agrees with Elyas that Ramsey makes some good points, but draws a different conclusion from them. He wonders if the could be controlled by magic, and thinks that would be cool.
Kiwina tries helping Mak with Elmer, but his skill with animals is limited. he thinks maybe Tsak would have greater skill, when it comes to animals. He recalls the times they have had to fight on the Rose, and the enemies involved. He wonders whether or not the god of courage would be best brought up at a wedding, and ponders which god would be a better fit, or if the gods even need to be honored at a wedding.
Tsak explains when and when not to use a ballista. He is still opposed to them, but suggests 2 would be enough, if the majority decide to purchase them. The ranger gives Mak a hand with Elmer's training.
Son Imod thinks 2 is better than 3, and suggests proper placement of the siege weapons.
Falco also thinks 3 is the magic number. He wonders if the vendor can give some training on his wares, and decides he would like to be trained. He realizes that ballista are essentially ginormous crossbows, so the training shouldn't be over-hard.
As the petals further discuss the use of ballista, and whether they should be purchased, Ramsey interrupts by saying, [b]"My friends, perhaps you should take a vote. It seems that some of you are in favor of arming the Rose, while others are opposed, to the idea. Before you can move forward, you need to know where the majority stands. I speak for the crew when I say, we trust your judgment. You have done well to protect this ship in the past, and if you decide that ballista aren't needed, we will support you. On the other hand, If you decide to arm the Rose, we will support you in that endeavor as well.

OOC: Adding ballista to the Rose will add another bit of complexity to battles at sea. We should designate one of the players as the controller for those, targeting, attack rolls, etc. Maybe Tsak or someone without an effective ranged attack. I'd also like to point out that Ballista are exotic weapons and require proficiency in Seige Weapons, so we'll have a size penalty(medium creatures) as well as a weapon prof penalty. Anyone have a feat they'll burn for that. Maybe one of our WLA members that get free feats for gold?
Mak continued concentrating on Elmer's progress with the aid of Tsak and the others. He was determined to not have to leave his horse unattended again.

Rolth had not considered how difficult it might be to train the crew on the use of ballistae. Kiwina's take on the ballista is that it would be a way for the crew to protect themselves. He is not in favor of having one if the crew won't be able to use it. And while the Petals could probably afford to hire a crewman who'd been taught how to use a ballista, hiring one with much experience at it is probably a different matter.

Mak continues to train Elmer, thankful for the help of his friends.
Elyas is surprised Ramsey suggested voting, and decides it's best to leave the decision up to Kiwina.
Wil votes to add the ballista, and suggests another protection option, as he considers "The Deep"
Rolth didn't consider the training required, and is considering skipping the idea, though he would still like to give the crew a way to defend themselves.
Kiwina is only in favor of ballista, because it makes it possible for the crew to defend themselves. If they can't use it, than he isn't in favor of it. He considers trying to hire someone with the skill set, but worries that may prove difficult.
Tsak continues to help with Elmer's training. (SInce their has already been a successful Handle animal check, further checks aren't needed, though it still takes time, so the role play, or at least a mentioning of the training is needed) Besides helping train Elmer, he also works out with his new sword.
Son Imod is in favor of the ballista
Falco is in favor, though he is quick to point out that his size would be a problem. He can think of no other ideas to defend the ship.
Here is how the official vote stands right now, based on yesterday's post. Mak and Tsak didn't officially vote
Falco, Son Imod, and Wil vote in favor
Kiwina and Rolth are in favor of giving the crew a means to defend themselves, but the training is a deterrent to them.
Elyas prefers to let Kiwina decide.
Personally I don't care if you choose to add the ballista or not. If you do decide, Mark and myself will have to come up with a stat block for the ballista operators (assuming they will be manned by the crew). In combat, I can tell you now, that I will probably let you guys control them, unless I have a good reason to take control, How Mark, or any future DM chooses to operate, in combat, is up to them. I just need a accurate vote, so as to decide whether or not you wish to RP a ballista purchase.
Seeing Rolth and Kiwina's concerns, Ramsey offers, "If it helps any, I still haven't hired replacements for the crewman killed by those eel thingies, if you want, I can try to find crew who are trained in the use of siege engines, maybe with a military background.? Just a thought. We will support whatever you decide."
Mak and Tsak see good progress in Elmer's training, though obviously animal training doesn't happen overnight. (common tricks take a week to learn, and it has been 3 days.)

If a vote is needed, Elyas will cast his vote in line with Kiwina, which sounds like it is a 'yes' if we're able to let the crew use them.
if we do face something as large as a kraken though, we will need more than a ballista. I will have to think on other resources or spells that could help us be prepared if one of those monsters really is out there.

Kiwina is growing less fond of the idea of ballistae. At least until other options for protecting the crew are considered. Mak is in favor of arming the Rose, he just hopes it won't cost that much. Meanwhile he keeps training Elmer. (day 4)
Wil has little to add, though he mentions updating his WLA status.
Elyas figures they will need more than a ballista or 3 if facing something like a kraken
Kiwina is growing less inclined to purchase ballista, and prefers to think up other means for the crew to defend themselves.
Rolth thinks they have more important things to do, than arming the Rose at the moment, and this is a distraction. He is certain that as long as the Petals stick together, they will be fine.
Tsak is all in on putting the ballista on the back burner. He decides he will stand with Mak to help keep out any riff raff. He wonders who will escort the bride down the isle, and if that is even a thing among taurs. In the meanwhile he is helping Mak train Elmer (day 4)
Son Imod wonders about loot distribution, and wants to put some of his hard earned share on WLA training. What feats will he get from his special training?
So it looks like we have a tie. something as big as this would be best if there was a obvious majority, so lets go ahead and put this on the back burner for now. If I misinterpreting your posts, please shoot me an email, so I can fix the issue.
Falco, Son Imod, Mak, and Wil vote in favor
Kiwina, Elyas, Tsak and Rolth vote against, for now.
With the ballista purchase put on the back burner, attention is put on the wedding. It is decided that it is to be more of a simple affair, as the happy couple are humble people, and don't believe in or want a lot of fanfare. Rolth and Kiwina are to tag team officiate, and Pelonius volunteers to walk the blushing bride down the isle.
The big day finally arrives, and it turns out to be a splended day. The air is comfortable, and the sun is shining. At the temple of Domi. Caliphon is waiting at the alter with our two "priests" and the place is surprisingly rather full. Maybe the speeches at the Pholus's celebration of life, as well as the departed's own words, at the end of his life, are taking root, as obviously the overwhelming majority of the guests would have no way of knowing the couple. It is clear by the pre-ceremony hub-bub, that people are seeing this mixed race union as metaphorical for the direction things seem to be heading on Centaur Island, and, with any luck, the rest of the taur isles as well, and the people seem to be excited about the changing of the political seasons
Yuria looks beautiful, even to those who wouldn't normally find a liontaur beautiful, and she walks with such grace, that you would expect her to be walking down palace corridors, schmoozing with court dignitaries, and not the humble, yet beautiful life her and Caliphon are to share together. There is no music, as Pelonius walks her escort down the isle, but it is as if music would distract from such a lovely scene, and you find yourself glad for it's absence. Yuria arrives at the alter, and Pelonius leaves and takes her seat of honor, both as Lead Stallion, and bridal escort. and now the spotlight is on Rolth and Kiwina.

Once more Mak wore his military uniform along with the family blade at his hip. As for his bow he had it along with the majority of his gear stowed aboard the Rose. Elmer stood outside ready for a quick getaway.
To Tsak he commented. "Quiet so far. Seems the rabble-rouses are staying home today."

Elyas sits towards the back, really interested in how this ceremony will look. even among humans having families from different backgrounds join together can always be a really fascinating blend, even more os in what must be one of the first very public inter-species weddings on this island.
He is excited about the ceremony and ready to bring some fanfare with some fireworks and magic, but the quiet solemn mood deters him from any of that. he waits quietly for his companions to lead the show

"It is not a democracy," Wil is heard saying a few times loudly while walking down the busy streets. He then seeks out a WLA trainer, stating he recalls taking the initial training. "Oh," he suddenly remembered. "This was where I picked up Iron Will feat.. i believe. I believe I would need to train up for level 2. I do not recall doing this."

He peeks inside at the service when he gets a chance. Having started life as a slave then moved into adventuring he has had little time or inclination to find a mate. He finds the whole thing more than a little strange, but also intriguing.

Rolth makes sure to brush out his main and don his fancy duds that were a gift from Wardd's acolytes back on Minotaur Isle. Thus splendified, he takes his place at the altar with Caliphon and Kiwina, awaiting the completion of Yuria's graceful entrance. As Pelonius takes her seat, Rolth offers a short invocation to kick off the ceremony, raising his hands to reveal again his Mark of Domi.
"May the eyes of Domi be drawn here today to this ceremony. For today we bring together taur and taur, wedding these two fine young ones, before the eyes of the community. May Domi bless this union, taur to taur and kind to kind, as an example to all who come after us. In Domi's name we pray."
With that, he turns to the congregated crowd, and continues,
"Welcome, family, friends and loved ones. We gather here today to celebrate the wedding of Caliphon and Yuria. You have come here to share in this formal commitment they make to one another, to offer your love and support to this union, and to allow them to start their married life together surrounded by the people dearest and most important to them. So welcome to one and all, who have traveled from near and far. We thank you for your presence here today and now ask for your blessing, encouragement, and lifelong support, for their decision to be married. Marriage is perhaps the greatest and most challenging adventure of taur relationships. No ceremony can create your marriage; only you can do that—through love and patience; through dedication and perseverance; through talking and listening, helping and supporting and believing in each other; through tenderness and laughter; through learning to forgive, learning to appreciate your differences, and by learning to make the important things matter, and to let go of the rest. What this ceremony can do is to witness and affirm the choice you make to stand together as lifemates and partners.
But marriage is not just a ceremony joining two taurs, it is also of significance to the community. And this one more than most. Kiwina, I believe that you have some words to share in that regard?”

"Will everyone please rise? Will you who are present here today, surround Yuria and Caliphon in love, offering them the joys of your friendship, and supporting them in their marriage? So signify by saying, We will."
After the community response, Kiwina continues, "You may be seated."
"Yuria and Caliphon, your journey began the moment you first met. You took the time to learn what makes the other person smile, what makes them laugh and how to best support them when life is less than simple. You accepted each other’s families, communities, and lifelong friends, and invited them to join together with you."
"Please declare your intent to marry."
Kiwina waits as the couple say that they wish to marry each other, in their own words. When they are done, he does not need to pronounce them husband and wife; they have already done so themselves.
"Remember that patience — rooted in faith, trust, and acceptance — will be the foundation of an abiding and deepening relationship. No other ties are more tender, no other vows more sacred than those you have assumed. If you are able to keep the vows you made here today, out of a desire to love and be loved, then your life will have joy and the home you establish will be a place in which you both will find the direction of your growth, your freedom, and your responsibility."
"Yuria and Caliphon, we who are gathered here encourage you to create a bond of honesty, respect, and trust; one that withstands the tides of time and change, and grows along with you. Honor and respect each other for all that you are and will become, taking pride in who you are, both separately and together. Join with your community in an ongoing struggle to create a world we all want to live in, where love and friendship will be recognized and celebrated in all their many forms. Mak shows up to the wedding in his military finery, with his family blade at his side. He stands outside, with Tsak and Elmer. He comments, to Tsalk that there haven't been any trouble makers.
Elyas is excited to see how the wedding will look. he is ready to use his magic to add some fanfare, but decides to wait since the occasion seems to be a solemn one.
Wil has to remind his guests that this isn't always a democracy, as some of them are a little upset about the ballista being put on the back burner. He snaps out of it, and remembers he would like some WLA training, and finds the WLA headquarters for said training..
Tsak replies to Mak that he hopes the riffraff stay away. Esmeralda is behaving herself, and he appreciates that. He is intrigued by the wedding, yet he feels that it is strange at the same time.
While wearing his fancy duds, Rolth begins the ceremony. he makes a lovely opening speech than hands things over to Kiwina.
Falco is excited for the wedding. He is reminded that there is a shop that specializes in non-taurs, and is able to purchase a new cloak. he decides some gold would make a fine wedding gift, and listens intently during the ceremony.
KIwina picks up where Rolth leaves off. He gives a lovely homely, and leads the happy couple through there vows.
Rolth finishes the ceremony by introducing the new family to the crowd, and then gives the limelight to them.
As Son Imod observes the ceremony, he wonders if their is someone for him out there. He also wonders what his share of the loot is.
The ceremony is beautiful, thanks, in no small part, to the efforts of Rolth and Kiwina. Caliphon and Yuria are beaming with happiness, and the love they share with one another. and overall, it is an amazing event. After the ceremony, Pelonius personally hosts a celebration for the happy couple, as they couldn't afford one, and were planing on not having one. The Lead Stallion would hear of no such thing, and so she took it upon herself to throw the happy couple a memorable party. As one would expect, there is food and drink a plenty, and everyone is invited to partake, and the city center is once again turned into a place of celebration.
Pelonius mentions, to the Petals, in private, that besides having a strong desire to honor the happy couple, she hopes that this display of joy and celebration will help further change the hearts of her people, and she is happy to see that that seems to be the case.

Falco partakes happily in the celebration loving the sense of community that it brings out. At some point he slips up to the newly married couple, probably having to get their attention to look down at him for a moment. Wearing his new cloak he extends a small bag wrapped with a bright bow.
"Friends it is a good day and I hope seen as a symbol of unity. I want to help start your life off right."
He hands over the bag nodding his head.
"This should help you get started. The last odd numbered coin, the 101st piece, should be for your first child if you have them."
In the bag are 101 gold coins.

Elyas has eaten more food and had more celebrations in the past week than any similar space of days in his life, but he can't help but join the celebration this time. It is so different and refreshing to see a community coming together around this mixed couple, and to have a community leader showing generous support to the couple really makes a statement.
Elyas remembers back to what feels like a lifetime ago when they started out on this quest to unite the taurs with the mixed-race children that had such a different experience than what this couple's future children might have.
normally quiet and reserved, Elyas gets really into this party, drinking more than he usually allows himself, and topping off the evening with some magical pyrotechnics in an attempt to delight the crowd.
[ooc: on a personal note all this strikes me on a more personal level than i thought it would. Wil does ask to join the WLA training with the hope to join the wedding on time. He makes a promise to himself to update his training. With the trouble he had earlier with drink and the added disciple from the training Wil enjoys the feast after the wedding and tries to control the voices a little better. He is actually, very successful with dampening down the voices and manages to ask some questions about the trips to the islands. "Rumors of attacks from creatures when traveling to the islands? Falco sends his best well wishes to the happy couple, and gives them a gift with some instructions .
Elyas reflects on how much celebrating and feasting he has done of late, but can't help but get into the spirit under the circumstances. He ponders the life Caliphon and Yuria's may have. Elyas 's reaction to this all is to party a little harder than is his norm.
WIl starts his WLA training, but makes it to the wedding on time. He manages to keep the voices at bay, maybe due to the new-found discipline gained through his new training. Wil asks about any rumors of ships being attacked, and describes the Galvos. (I'm not sure where you are asking, so I'll assume it is at the WLA, and not the wedding. Feel free to correct me if I misunderstood,) His trainer answers, "Well I'm not sure if the attacks have gotten more frequent or not, but a sailor's life is filled with constant danger. I have heard of these eel creatures, galvos I believe they're called, and what I've heard coincides with what you say. I've heard that they are, indeed, a tough adversary."
Mak is struggling to find his chill.
Tsak is a little unnerved by the new Mak, but he is open to change. He congradulates Rolth and Kiwina's part in the weeding, and gives a nod of approval to Falco's generosity. Tsak celebrates in moderation, keeping his eyes open for any security concerns.
Kiwina admits he borrowed much of what e said from the priests of Serenbeth. He raises his glass to Elyas, as the wizard gets into the celebration. he wonders how quickly word will reach Yuria's clan, and wonders if it will cause any trouble.
Rolth reflects on past events, and is convinced life is good.
Son Imod wishes the happy couple well, and believes this union is a sign that Domi's wish for his creation is coming to pass.
The celebrating lasts well into the night, with everyone having a grand time. Sometime during the revelry, Pelonius approaches the Petals and asks that they would come to her home, in the morning. "Our group is a wide mixture and we were treated well, even asked to help with some things. It is hard to imagine hostility at the onset."

There will be those who resist the changes, I’m sure. But with goodwill, steady effort, and Domi’s approval, I’m sure that we can bring about positive change for all of our peoples. The Purple Duke seems to be a practical taur, but has shown us kindness and generosity on several occasions. There are factions within the liontaur Council, but some combination of honor, trade relations, and steadfastness should appeal to enough of them to sway them to our chosen path. "The Council of Clans has varied points of view, including the hidebound, But most of them are pragmatic and would see value in steps exploring mutual benefits. My biggest worry would be that Jasak Redtooth, Yuria's chief, is the most hidebound one. She was only able to come with Caliphon because we very publically implied that she would be representing the liontaur council if she came, to the honor of her clan. A practical man would realize that after she left, she would do as she wished. A diehard might react poorly to news of it."

DM Mark Thursday February 17th, 2022 9:07:49 PM Falco answers Pelonius' question, noting that the Petals were treated well by the Purple Duke. Elyas says that the hoped for changes among the Taurs is big, and wonders what difference the mirrors will make. Mak is encouraged by the attitude of the Purple Duke, but says that both the minotaurs as well as the liontaurs on Liontaur Island are not so open to change. Wil observes that the Purple Duke must like purple. He asks about a tournament on Minotaur Isle. Rolth says the fact that both the leaders of both the minotaurs and liontaurs sent messages to all the isles is encouraging. He notes the factions within the liontaurs may pose a challenge, but the right appeal may help. Kiwina says that the Purple Duke will move, but cautiously. He agrees that the independent clans of the liontaurs may be harder to sway. He remembers how difficult the leader of the Redtooth clan was. Tsak listens and watches.
Pelonius listens carefully.
”Hollyhocks has some knowledge of all the taurus as well, though I will confess that your familiarity is much greater - and more nuanced given your more recent interactions.
“The minotaurs have a more centralized leadership and structure under the Purple Duke. But that cuts both ways, and it’s clear the Purple Duke must move thoughtfully to maintain his rule. I understand well the independence of the liontaur clans. They are not unlike the herds of the centaurs, though I think clan leaders rule with more direct authority that we centaurs would tolerate.” She smiles at this. But then becomes serious.
“But I am worried, and I covet your thoughts. How we handle these mirrors is important. They are a gift of Domi to all the taurus, clearly intended to foster greater communication, cooperation and understanding. Domi chose you for this, and he brought them through you to the centaurs first. I do not think this was by accident, just as I think there was a purpose to my father leading the centaurs to find them, though it cost him his life.
“Here is my fear. It would be simple for any of the taur leaders to use the mirror for their own personal gain, or worse yet - just lock it away in a room never to be seen again. I know, because I have heard such rumblings among my own people.
“How do we set up a structure or rules - some sort of safeguard or cultural expectation to ensure regular and open use among the tauric races?”

Perhaps we take the time now to figure out how that room in the mirrors works using Pelonius as the Centaur, Rolth as the Liontaur and myself as the Minotaur. Once we have that sorted then we create a new honorary title complete with some sort of badge of state and we temporarily confer the title to Rolth and myself and we lifetime appoint Pelonius as that title for the Centaurs. We go to each of the races as envoys for the centaurs and we make a huge fuss of transfering this title from myself to the Purple Duke and from Rolth to the leader of the Liontaurs. If possible we see if it is possible for 2 Taurs from the same race to enter the same mirror at the same time and if it is we have both a public ceremony with all the fanfare and a private ceremony where Rolth and I would take our replacements into the mirror and ideally introduce them to Pelonius directly. Do you think doing that would insure they get their usage and don't just get set aside in some dangy room somewhere?"

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Saturday February 19th, 2022 12:51:39 AM Kiwina notes that there are magical ways to enforce a contract and asks if Barbale can do such a thing. He suggests that perhaps Domi’s priests could use their religious authority to regulate use of the mirrors. Rolth agrees, wondering if he might coordinate this religious oversight. He asks the other Petals what they think since they represent the noble races here. Tsak decided that as this discussion veers into religion and politics that he will remain silent. Son Imod wonders if it is only the leaders of each tauric race that can use the mirrors, or if any of the taurs can use them. He proposes that the Petals try, since they have members of all three tauric races among their number. He says, “Once we have that sorted then we create a new honorary title complete with some sort of badge of state and we temporarily confer the title to Rolth and myself and we lifetime appoint Pelonius as that title for the Centaurs. We go to each of the races as envoys for the centaurs and we make a huge fuss of transferring this title from myself to the Purple Duke and from Rolth to the leader of the Liontaurs. Do you think doing that would ensure they get their usage and don't just get set aside in some dangy room somewhere?” Falco likes Son Imods idea, but does not feel like he has a say in such matters. Elyas agrees that testing the mirrors is a good idea, and perhaps having some badge of office will help. But he cautions that establishing stricture of use under the mantle of religion could lead to problems. Wil notes that in spite of him being a cleric, following Wardd is not a religion. Mak adds that where he comes from, the leaders would create some bogus religious ceremony around such things, implying that only the pure may use them.
Pelonius ponders all this, and after a moment she says, “I will need to speak with Hollyhocks and some of the others about this, especially Barbale and Timapius who have been in these mirrors. I agree that enlisting the religious community in this could be helpful, but putting the religious leaders in charge of this…well, that could lead to a different sort of disaster. We’ll need to braid that tail carefully.
“I am concerned about these mirrors though. They did trap some of my people. I imagine if we delivered something that trapped the leaders of the taurs, it would initiate a new level of mistrust and animosity among the tauric people we seek to unite.
“Tell me, have you Petals tried to use them? Would you be willing to puzzle them out? As Son Imod noted, your group is skilled and has representatives of all the tauric races, so you seem uniquely suited to this task. Will you help us in this?”
Assuming the Petals agree, Pelonius will have the mirrors brought to a clearing in a grove of Whistal Trees, and she keeps the other centaurs away from the area. The mirrors are all there, wrapped as they were before. What do you do with them?
There are also some nice foodstuffs there for you as well as some water, wine and beer.

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Monday February 21st, 2022 7:54:35 PM Kiwina, Rolth, and Son Imod agree to test the mirrors as representatives. They suggest facing the mirrors away from each other. Tsak prepares to watch what happens, and things this should be entertaining. He gets himself some snacks. Falco is ready with some spells if things go wrong. Elyas suggest the mirrors be placed far from each other, and readies Dispel Magic. Wil volunteers to step into one of the mirrors, and then gets in an argument with his mother. Nothing weird about that, nope, nothing at all. Mak keeps some distance and is careful to not be reelected in any mirror.
The wind blow softly through the Whistal Trees surrounding them. The size of the clearing allows the Petals to place the mirrors about 60 feet equidistant from each other. Kiwina, Rolth, and Son Imod stand before each mirror that has intricate carvings of each if their respective races, and they unwrap the mirrors. Then Rolth says in a low voice that there is a skulker over there. Kiwina says he sees the skulker. He has a suggestion about the mirror. Son Imod also announces he wishes to join the other taurs, though he does not wish to be trapped. Tsak catches Rolth’s warning and motions to Mak as he sneaks over to where Rolth pointed. The watcher seems to have been spooked.
(Perception DC 18: Highlight to display spoiler: {It withdraws in the underbrush. You think it to be medium sized and moving carefully 30’ away.})
As for the mirrors, here’s what you surmise so far:
You find that standing before a mirror and announcing that you wish to speak to the mirror of a particular tauric race, this will cause a loud “gong” sound to emanate from that mirror, and the image of whomever is before each mirror can be seen in the other. If a general terms such as “all taurs” is used, it will “gong” both opposing mirrors.
After some experimentation, you learn that the mirror need not be held or touched to cause this, but only a taur of the race depicted in that frame can use that particular mirror. That is, a centaur cannot activate the mirror with liontaurs carved in it’s frame.
You also find that no matter how many others stand before a mirror, only the one who activated (or answered) it will be depicted in other mirrors. “Answering” a mirror's call is done by the first taur of the appropriate race standing before the receiving mirror. You cannot hear all that goes on beyond a mirror, only speech or sounds made by that one taur depicted. If the caller steps away, for more than a minute the connection ends.
Tsak pauses and checks in with the magic mirrors. No explosions, so far so good. Putting that out of mind he resumes his stealthy approach to the interloper, moving to flank whatever it is so he can get a good look. Esmerelda glides along with the ranger, her curiosity picqued.

Now that we have figured out how to talk through the mirrors, maybe we should try to pass through them to have a meeting? Son Imod says to the Mirror. "I'd like to pass through to that Tauric meeting room that is on the other side if you'd be so kind."
Son Imod does not go to step in immediately though but tries to stick his hand in first to see if the mirror changed into a portal. He won't force his hand in if it won't go in as he doesn't want to break the mirror but he wants to see if maybe the consistency changes when it goes into portal mode.
If his hand does disappear into the mirror then he'll try to follow with the rest of him but he figures best to try to use his hand to figure out if he can step into the mirror then to step into it and risk damaging it potentially.
If the mirror doesn't change he tries variations of different ways of talking about meeting with the other Taurs physically, using his hand to guage whether or not the consistency of the mirror changed. If any phrase causes the mirror to turn into a portal he makes a mental note of it and follows his hand into the mirror to hopefully find that conference room Pelonius spoke of.

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Thursday February 24th, 2022 8:39:42 PM Tsak moves around slowly to flank the retreating skulker. Kiwina calls out to the person to show themselves. Rolth thinks that there may be a way to pass through the mirrors as well as talk. Son Imod announces his intent to move into the mirror and reaches out a hand to do so. He finds his hand stops against the hard glass surface. He tries several phrases and gestures to allow passage into the mirror, but none work. Mak shoots some warning arrows toward the creature that has left. Wil tries to speak to the retreating watcher, but he’s speaking to so many people it’s hard to sort that out. Elyas maintains his oversight of those using the mirrors. Falco moves slowly into the brush to follow the creature.
Eventually, the Petals that pursue the watcher will find that it is a faun. A rather stealthy one, but once it breaks into a run the next round it’s seen by all. Assuming you continue calling out it will freeze rather than die. It spins around. The Faun has a bow and a shortsword, but neither are drawn.
”HEY! Hey - don't shoot!. Jez, it’s me, Brym. Remember me? I was looking for you guys. I was told you were over here. Well, I was told not to come here too, but well, anyway, I didn’t mean any harm. But please don’t tell those centaurs I was here. They’re a pretty serious lot, and I don’t like to think of what they’d do if they caught me here.

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Friday February 25th, 2022 9:50:41 PM Rolth listens to the faun, wondering about a few things. Kiwina asks Brym who told him not to come to this grove, and asks why the faun is looking for the Petals. Son Imod says to the mirror before him, "I would like to physically commune with the Centaur and Liontaur using your meeting room to facilitate this." However, he notes no change in the mirror. He still just sees the images of Kiwina and Rolth in the mirror as before. Tsak is relieved to see that the watcher is Brym. He turns his attention back to the mirrors. Wil makes a joke about the Deep. Falco admonishes the faun for nearly getting himself killed spying on the Petals. Mak ask what it is the faun wants. Elyas says that the Petals seem to have figured out the mirrors’ function, and asks if there is anything else anyone wants to try with them.
Brym is a combination of embarrassment and indignation. ”Gee, I was just trying to see what was goin’ on with you guys. You all are interesting and fun. We were bugging Chesmuy about you and he said we should see what you’re up to, so me and the boys took a ship over here. Plus we figured being among these centaurs might be better than being on Liontaur Island. It’s not exactly working out that way. The centaurs here seem a little standoffish.
“Anyway, we were in the dock area and this old guy shows up. I heard him say his name was Nyloth, or something like that, and that he was looking for you guys. Said it had to do with something he called the Deep. So we wanted to know where you guys were too. Eventually I come up here to find you guys, and boy, them centaurs weren’t having it. They said you were super busy and to not bother you. After I figured out where you were, they got real sore and said I had to stay away.
“You … you won’t tell ‘em I found you, will ya? I’m afraid of what they’ll do to me if you do. C’mon, we’re frends and all, aren’t we?”
Brym seems genuinely scared of the centaurs.

Well Nyloth appeared when we fought and killed some sort of monstrosity (appearing human) that had something to do with THE DEEEEEP, and the fauns (there were 3 of them, triple the fun!) were outside a cave complex that had a demonic tentacle thingy in it that was mind controlling liontuars and was something to do with THE DEEEEEP.
