DM Mark Thursday February 17th, 2022 9:07:49 PM Falco answers Pelonius' question, noting that the Petals were treated well by the Purple Duke. Elyas says that the hoped for changes among the Taurs is big, and wonders what difference the mirrors will make. Mak is encouraged by the attitude of the Purple Duke, but says that both the minotaurs as well as the liontaurs on Liontaur Island are not so open to change. Wil observes that the Purple Duke must like purple. He asks about a tournament on Minotaur Isle. Rolth says the fact that both the leaders of both the minotaurs and liontaurs sent messages to all the isles is encouraging. He notes the factions within the liontaurs may pose a challenge, but the right appeal may help. Kiwina says that the Purple Duke will move, but cautiously. He agrees that the independent clans of the liontaurs may be harder to sway. He remembers how difficult the leader of the Redtooth clan was. Tsak listens and watches.
Pelonius listens carefully.
”Hollyhocks has some knowledge of all the taurus as well, though I will confess that your familiarity is much greater - and more nuanced given your more recent interactions.
“The minotaurs have a more centralized leadership and structure under the Purple Duke. But that cuts both ways, and it’s clear the Purple Duke must move thoughtfully to maintain his rule. I understand well the independence of the liontaur clans. They are not unlike the herds of the centaurs, though I think clan leaders rule with more direct authority that we centaurs would tolerate.” She smiles at this. But then becomes serious.
“But I am worried, and I covet your thoughts. How we handle these mirrors is important. They are a gift of Domi to all the taurus, clearly intended to foster greater communication, cooperation and understanding. Domi chose you for this, and he brought them through you to the centaurs first. I do not think this was by accident, just as I think there was a purpose to my father leading the centaurs to find them, though it cost him his life.
“Here is my fear. It would be simple for any of the taur leaders to use the mirror for their own personal gain, or worse yet - just lock it away in a room never to be seen again. I know, because I have heard such rumblings among my own people.
“How do we set up a structure or rules - some sort of safeguard or cultural expectation to ensure regular and open use among the tauric races?”

At least priests truly in Domi's service should want to further his goals." Kiwina is a bit doubtful, suspecting that politics among priests with different cultures may also come into play. Perhaps we take the time now to figure out how that room in the mirrors works using Pelonius as the Centaur, Rolth as the Liontaur and myself as the Minotaur. Once we have that sorted then we create a new honorary title complete with some sort of badge of state and we temporarily confer the title to Rolth and myself and we lifetime appoint Pelonius as that title for the Centaurs. We go to each of the races as envoys for the centaurs and we make a huge fuss of transfering this title from myself to the Purple Duke and from Rolth to the leader of the Liontaurs. If possible we see if it is possible for 2 Taurs from the same race to enter the same mirror at the same time and if it is we have both a public ceremony with all the fanfare and a private ceremony where Rolth and I would take our replacements into the mirror and ideally introduce them to Pelonius directly. Do you think doing that would insure they get their usage and don't just get set aside in some dangy room somewhere?"

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Saturday February 19th, 2022 12:51:39 AM Kiwina notes that there are magical ways to enforce a contract and asks if Barbale can do such a thing. He suggests that perhaps Domi’s priests could use their religious authority to regulate use of the mirrors. Rolth agrees, wondering if he might coordinate this religious oversight. He asks the other Petals what they think since they represent the noble races here. Tsak decided that as this discussion veers into religion and politics that he will remain silent. Son Imod wonders if it is only the leaders of each tauric race that can use the mirrors, or if any of the taurs can use them. He proposes that the Petals try, since they have members of all three tauric races among their number. He says, “Once we have that sorted then we create a new honorary title complete with some sort of badge of state and we temporarily confer the title to Rolth and myself and we lifetime appoint Pelonius as that title for the Centaurs. We go to each of the races as envoys for the centaurs and we make a huge fuss of transferring this title from myself to the Purple Duke and from Rolth to the leader of the Liontaurs. Do you think doing that would ensure they get their usage and don't just get set aside in some dangy room somewhere?” Falco likes Son Imods idea, but does not feel like he has a say in such matters. Elyas agrees that testing the mirrors is a good idea, and perhaps having some badge of office will help. But he cautions that establishing stricture of use under the mantle of religion could lead to problems. Wil notes that in spite of him being a cleric, following Wardd is not a religion. Mak adds that where he comes from, the leaders would create some bogus religious ceremony around such things, implying that only the pure may use them.
Pelonius ponders all this, and after a moment she says, “I will need to speak with Hollyhocks and some of the others about this, especially Barbale and Timapius who have been in these mirrors. I agree that enlisting the religious community in this could be helpful, but putting the religious leaders in charge of this…well, that could lead to a different sort of disaster. We’ll need to braid that tail carefully.
“I am concerned about these mirrors though. They did trap some of my people. I imagine if we delivered something that trapped the leaders of the taurs, it would initiate a new level of mistrust and animosity among the tauric people we seek to unite.
“Tell me, have you Petals tried to use them? Would you be willing to puzzle them out? As Son Imod noted, your group is skilled and has representatives of all the tauric races, so you seem uniquely suited to this task. Will you help us in this?”
Assuming the Petals agree, Pelonius will have the mirrors brought to a clearing in a grove of Whistal Trees, and she keeps the other centaurs away from the area. The mirrors are all there, wrapped as they were before. What do you do with them?
There are also some nice foodstuffs there for you as well as some water, wine and beer.

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Monday February 21st, 2022 7:54:35 PM Kiwina, Rolth, and Son Imod agree to test the mirrors as representatives. They suggest facing the mirrors away from each other. Tsak prepares to watch what happens, and things this should be entertaining. He gets himself some snacks. Falco is ready with some spells if things go wrong. Elyas suggest the mirrors be placed far from each other, and readies Dispel Magic. Wil volunteers to step into one of the mirrors, and then gets in an argument with his mother. Nothing weird about that, nope, nothing at all. Mak keeps some distance and is careful to not be reelected in any mirror.
The wind blow softly through the Whistal Trees surrounding them. The size of the clearing allows the Petals to place the mirrors about 60 feet equidistant from each other. Kiwina, Rolth, and Son Imod stand before each mirror that has intricate carvings of each if their respective races, and they unwrap the mirrors. Son Imod also announces he wishes to join the other taurs, though he does not wish to be trapped. Tsak catches Rolth’s warning and motions to Mak as he sneaks over to where Rolth pointed. Mak casually turns toward the skulker and casualty draws two arrows and casually knocks them on his bow. Wil is not sure where this watcher is, but he announces, "Hey, we mean no harm. Come out and you will not be harmed!" Falco nods and watches, aware of the intruder. Elyas says, Son Imod, try moving out of view of the mirror and see if the other mirrors still show your view, and for how long
The watcher seems to have been spooked.
(Perception DC 18: Highlight to display spoiler: {It withdraws in the underbrush. You think it to be medium sized and moving carefully 30’ away.})
As for the mirrors, here’s what you surmise so far:
You find that standing before a mirror and announcing that you wish to speak to the mirror of a particular tauric race, this will cause a loud “gong” sound to emanate from that mirror, and the image of whomever is before each mirror can be seen in the other. If a general terms such as “all taurs” is used, it will “gong” both opposing mirrors.
After some experimentation, you learn that the mirror need not be held or touched to cause this, but only a taur of the race depicted in that frame can use that particular mirror. That is, a centaur cannot activate the mirror with liontaurs carved in it’s frame.
You also find that no matter how many others stand before a mirror, only the one who activated (or answered) it will be depicted in other mirrors. “Answering” a mirror's call is done by the first taur of the appropriate race standing before the receiving mirror. You cannot hear all that goes on beyond a mirror, only speech or sounds made by that one taur depicted. If the caller steps away, for more than a minute the connection ends.
Tsak pauses and checks in with the magic mirrors. No explosions, so far so good. Putting that out of mind he resumes his stealthy approach to the interloper, moving to flank whatever it is so he can get a good look. Esmerelda glides along with the ranger, her curiosity picqued.

Fascinating! Rolth makes a funny face in the mirror, then recovers his dignity a bit. Now that we have figured out how to talk through the mirrors, maybe we should try to pass through them to have a meeting? Barring any objections, Rolth will state his intention, then try to gently step into the mirror. He will be careful not to break or topple it if it doesn't seem to be working that way.

Son Imod says to the Mirror. "I'd like to pass through to that Tauric meeting room that is on the other side if you'd be so kind."
Son Imod does not go to step in immediately though but tries to stick his hand in first to see if the mirror changed into a portal. He won't force his hand in if it won't go in as he doesn't want to break the mirror but he wants to see if maybe the consistency changes when it goes into portal mode.
If his hand does disappear into the mirror then he'll try to follow with the rest of him but he figures best to try to use his hand to figure out if he can step into the mirror then to step into it and risk damaging it potentially.
If the mirror doesn't change he tries variations of different ways of talking about meeting with the other Taurs physically, using his hand to guage whether or not the consistency of the mirror changed. If any phrase causes the mirror to turn into a portal he makes a mental note of it and follows his hand into the mirror to hopefully find that conference room Pelonius spoke of.

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Thursday February 24th, 2022 8:39:42 PM Tsak moves around slowly to flank the retreating skulker. Kiwina calls out to the person to show themselves. Rolth thinks that there may be a way to pass through the mirrors as well as talk. Son Imod announces his intent to move into the mirror and reaches out a hand to do so. He finds his hand stops against the hard glass surface. He tries several phrases and gestures to allow passage into the mirror, but none work. Mak shoots some warning arrows toward the creature that has left. Wil tries to speak to the retreating watcher, but he’s speaking to so many people it’s hard to sort that out. Elyas maintains his oversight of those using the mirrors. Falco moves slowly into the brush to follow the creature.
Eventually, the Petals that pursue the watcher will find that it is a faun. A rather stealthy one, but once it breaks into a run the next round it’s seen by all. Assuming you continue calling out it will freeze rather than die. It spins around. The Faun has a bow and a shortsword, but neither are drawn.
”HEY! Hey - don't shoot!. Jez, it’s me, Brym. Remember me? I was looking for you guys. I was told you were over here. Well, I was told not to come here too, but well, anyway, I didn’t mean any harm. But please don’t tell those centaurs I was here. They’re a pretty serious lot, and I don’t like to think of what they’d do if they caught me here.

Brym's appearance is enough to distract Rolth from his task for a moment. He wonders to himself, "How did the faun get here from Liontaur Isle? And how does he know about Nyloth and the Deep?" Turning his mind back to the mirrors, he continues the effort to move into the conference room beyond.

DM Mark - Mirror, Mirror Friday February 25th, 2022 9:50:41 PM Rolth listens to the faun, wondering about a few things. Kiwina asks Brym who told him not to come to this grove, and asks why the faun is looking for the Petals. Son Imod says to the mirror before him, "I would like to physically commune with the Centaur and Liontaur using your meeting room to facilitate this." However, he notes no change in the mirror. He still just sees the images of Kiwina and Rolth in the mirror as before. Tsak is relieved to see that the watcher is Brym. He turns his attention back to the mirrors. Wil makes a joke about the Deep. Falco admonishes the faun for nearly getting himself killed spying on the Petals. Mak ask what it is the faun wants. Elyas says that the Petals seem to have figured out the mirrors’ function, and asks if there is anything else anyone wants to try with them.
Brym is a combination of embarrassment and indignation. ”Gee, I was just trying to see what was goin’ on with you guys. You all are interesting and fun. We were bugging Chesmuy about you and he said we should see what you’re up to, so me and the boys took a ship over here. Plus we figured being among these centaurs might be better than being on Liontaur Island. It’s not exactly working out that way. The centaurs here seem a little standoffish.
“Anyway, we were in the dock area and this old guy shows up. I heard him say his name was Nyloth, or something like that, and that he was looking for you guys. Said it had to do with something he called the Deep. So we wanted to know where you guys were too. Eventually I come up here to find you guys, and boy, them centaurs weren’t having it. They said you were super busy and to not bother you. After I figured out where you were, they got real sore and said I had to stay away.
“You … you won’t tell ‘em I found you, will ya? I’m afraid of what they’ll do to me if you do. C’mon, we’re frends and all, aren’t we?”
Brym seems genuinely scared of the centaurs.

That the Centaurs weren't friendly...that was no surprise to Mak. These Taurs seemed to be very fickle in how they dealt with people. Mak however kept silent. He was an observer here and an outsider. Maybe this was a conversation with Elyas or Tsak later, but certainly not in front of the self appointed "Domi's chosen" that was Rolth. DM Mark - "Nyloth? Important?" Monday February 28th, 2022 1:58:56 PM Tsak chats with Wil, filling him in on some recent events. Rolth greets Bryn and proposes going to meet this Nyloth. Wil is ready to be done with the mirrors. Kiwina suggests another attempt with the mirrors, with all being activated at once may help. Son Imod introduces himself to the faun. Mak watches, keeping his opinions to himself. Elyas suggests going to speak with Nyloth. Falco reassures Brym that the Petals will not tell the centaurs about him, admonishing the faun to announce himself next time.
Brym replies to Son Imod, ”Me? Why I’m a friend of the Petals. Looks like you are too - I haven’t met you before though. My name’s Brym. Who are you?” The little faun smiles as he extends a hand toward the large minotaur.
The Petals are ready to go. Still, they try a few more things with the mirrors. Nothing seems to allow entry into the mirrors, but even casual attempts to communicate seem to work when a taur stands before a matching mirror announces they wish to contact another specified mirror or mirrors, a loud gong sound is heard from that mirror and the mirror displays the images of those in conversation.
Having found out all they can about the mirrors, the Petals decide to leave this grove and the mirrors.
As you leave, you encounter several centaurs seemingly standing guard outside the grove you were in. Brym is with you, happily walking along with you and chatting as you go. You recognize most of these centaurs and you conclude that they all belong to the same herd. Thanlus, the herd leader, gallops up. Brym falls silent and edges closer to Rolth as they approach. Mak spotted the look of disapproval on Thanlus's face and moved to place a hand on Brym's shoulder to comfort the faun. It did occur to the young nobleman that Brym would be a perfect agent for the Deep. He was near the place they found the Chuul, had followed them here, and apparently contacted Nyloth. His seemingly innocent demeanor would be the perfect cover for a Deep one.
Also though Mak wasn't against moving these mirrors he thought that perhaps transporting them via ship to be dangerous. Once they were away from here he thought he'd ask Elyas about Teleporting them directly to their destination, at least the islands closest. DM Mark - "I would be so kind if you could secure those mirrors." Tuesday March 1st, 2022 5:20:48 PM Wil thanks Thanlus’ herd for being here and says they may secure the mirrors. He unconvincingly says that Bryn came just like the Petals asked! Mak reassures Bryn, though he wonders if there may be a connection between the faun and The Deep. Tsak interprets Thanlus’ concern as a failure to embrace diversity. Rolth looks over Thanlus with a keen eye, thinking back to where he’s seen these particular centaurs before. Rolth does recall having seen Thanlus before, and perhaps some of the others in his herd, so they are not strangers here. He recalls Thanlus tended to be quiet and very observant. He strikes Rolth as a proud centaur. Pelonius did not necessarily seem at odds with this one, even as some of the other herd leaders tended to challenge Pelonius’ from time to time, jockying for position. He does recall that two of these centaurs were the ones that brought the Petals refreshments in the grove, and they seem to defer to Thanlus here. Kiwina replies that the Petals have learned all they can about the mirrors, but does not elaborate. He suggests that perhaps Hollyhocks knows a mage that could learn more. Son Imod asks, "Did Pelonius ask you to secure the mirrors when we weren't using them? Has there been actionable intelligence that the mirrors are at risk from theft or vandalism?" Falco makes a joke to Brym. The faun laughs, ”I like you little owlman. You’re pretty funny!” Elyas
Thanlus is clearly in charge here, though his tone and demeanor is respectful. He responds to Son Imod, ”Pelonius asked me to see you were not bothered and that the mirrors and you remain safe within this grove.”
He adds curtly, ”Very well, the faun is with you then.” You don’t need sense motive to know this means the Petals are responsible for the faun. ”We will secure the mirrors here in this grove. Convey to Pelonius that we have done so and await her instruction.”
He asks somewhat formally, ”Do you require as escort to back to Lead Stallion Pelonius”
(You know the way well enough.)
Escort or not, you make your way back to where Pelonius is waiting. There are a number of centaurs there, including Barbale, Timapius and Hollyhocks. She asks, ”So, tell me what you have learned, Petals of the Rose. How shall I instruct the liontaurs and the centaurs in the operation of these mirrors?” She stumbles a bit over a formal title for your group, but you sense no intentional disrespect.

Kiwina thinks that Nyloth is crazy to have come to Centaur Island -- Barbale and Timapius could easily remember him as the guide who essentially led them into a trap. He thinks Elyas gave a fine explanation, but speaks up when Pelonius has trouble figuring out what to call them. "The Eight-Petaled Rose is the name our team used for the Taurnament of Roses, and referring to ourselves as Petals for short just sort of stuck afterward. We could pick a grander sounding name for the group, but I think what we use still conveys that each of us is part of a larger whole." Kiwina also thinks that something like the Rose Dragons or Rose Company would be sillier.

DM Mark - "Where do you plan to venture from here?" Wednesday March 2nd, 2022 6:53:56 PM Elyas relates what the Petals learned in their experimentation with the mirrors, noting they were not transported to a single place as they were in Pelonius’ dream. Wil remains quiet. Rolth thanks Thanlus, letting him know the Petals do not require an escort. He does not spot any trouble on the way to Pelonius. Kiwina explains the group’s name to Pelonius. Son Imod mentions the dream he got from Imod that brought him to Bridge Island and the Petals. He asks her about more details from her dream. Tsak guides Brym near Falco, hoping that between the two of them that they might keep the faun out of trouble. Well, out of more trouble anyway. Mak has some concerns about the centaurs and returns to the grove where the mirrors are. Falco informs Brym that he used to be a halfling and recalls the temptation to mischief. He recommends good behavior among the centaurs.
For Mak: The Centaurs seem unconcerned that Mak remains behind. As he enters the grove, several centaurs follow him in. They move over to the mirrors one by one and begin wrapping them again in cloth and rope as they were when they were brought here.
One of the centaurs says to him, ”Hey friend, they left you on guard duty? Say, are you any good with that bow? Maybe we could have a little contest once we get these things wrapped up.” —------------------------------------- For the others: Pelonius replies to the Petals, ”Thank you for your work. It does not surprise me that your experience differed from Hollyhock's dream. Dreams can be fickle things, are are often not literal in their meaning. Still, the fact that you can communicate with this is consistent with what my father was told, and really seems to be the point.”
Hollyhocks will add, ”In my dream, it seemed to be the leaders of each of the Taurs. Perhaps only those that represent the will of their respective island may enter the mirrors. Or perhaps the pure of heart. Or perhaps only those that have Domi’s blessing. Yes, dreams can be fickle. So can the gods.” He smiles at this last bit.
Pelonius continues, ”Well, I need to deliver these mirrors to the other tauric isles. As the Lead Stallion, it will be a good opportunity to meet the other Taur leaders. Coming bearing gifts is alway a good start. Pity there is not one for Bridge Island. Or perhaps, not yet. Perhaps Domi will guide you to one for them.
“We thank you Petals for your service. Is there anything else you require? Do you require provisioning for your ship? Where do you plan to venture from here? Or do you plan to stay on Centaur Isle for a while. You are certainly welcome for as long as you wish?”

For Mak: The Centaurs secure the mirrors, but do not move them from the grove.
The centaur Mak was speaking with says, “I can understand how you may be intimidated by our skill with the bow, so I will not press further.” —-------------------------------------
As Pelonius listens, Elyas seems to have decided on the matter of delivering the mirrors. She seems uncertain.
After a moment, the Lead Stallion replies somewhat formally, “The Corral thanks the Petals for their help, both in rescuing our people and delivering the mirrors to us. In this, we are in your debt. The Corral recognizea the strength and ability of the Petals. But this is a matter for the centaus to address and for the rulers of our three islands to work out. The Petals may accompany us, and will have a place of honor as part of my retinue in this if you wish.
“In recognition of the special role you have in Domi’s plan to bring these mirrors, and in difference to the great service you have provided the centaurs, we will delay for a short time our delivery of these mirrors to the minotaurs and the liontaurs if there are matters you need to attend.”
Once there is a pause, Brym steps forward before Falco and Tsak can react. He a hand in greeting as he says, ”Hi. I’m Brym. I’m, um, I’m honored to meet you noble lady. And the rest of you.”
Pelonius gives the faun an appraising look. ”And I am glad to make your acquaintance Brym. I will add that you are also lucky. I understand you were told to not bother the Petals. My people can be quick to act when they are ignored on our island, and the consequences can be severe where a directive of the Lead Stallion or a Herd Leader has been violated. But our anger is quick to abate as well.
“Certainly, the fact that the Petals seem to accept you is enough for me though. Tell me Brym - why are you here?”
Brym replies, “Well, see, me and a couple of friends, we come over to see the Petals. We met them on Liontaur Isle. When we were at the docks, there was this guy named Nycoth or Noloth…anyway, he was asking about the Petals and wanting to talk to them. We overheard him saying it was about the deep. Must be somewhere in the sea near here. So here I am to pass this along to my friends. And to meet you all, which is pretty neat!”
Pelonius says somewhat coolly, ”Yes, the matter of Nyloth.”
She addresses the Petals in this. “Nyloth has approached us about needing to see you. He is being held down at the docks. We assured him we would pass along the message.
“I am not inclined to allow him free reign of our island at the moment, and we would like to know more about his business with the Petals, to the extent that it may affect us. What do you know of Nyloth? And what is this Deep - you mentioned it earlier. Would you like to meet with Nyloth? Shall I have him brought here, or would you go down to meet with him at Fort Stag?”
“Oh, and you’re in charge of Brym. I believe his two friends are down near Fort Stag as well. Son Imod, there is a WLA Chapterhouse at Fort Stag.”

For I believe that the Deep and its foul minions pose a threat to all taurkind and our noble neighbors, and thus are an obstacle to the unity that we seek. Kiwina is a bit shocked at what Rolth has omitted from his explanation. "We have encountered Nyloth before. He witnessed our first encounter with an emissary of the Deep, as if he were waiting for us to show up there, and provided us information afterward but no aid in the fight." Kiwina's disdain is plain. "He also showed your father where to find the mirrors, and then returned to where we found him to lead us to the same location some time later. He says he is a follower of Domi, but his actions are at odds with the tales I have heard of the Bravest." Kiwina calms himself a moment. "I do not doubt that the man has information we should hear. Tsak is quite interested to see Nyloth again and find out any news of the deep. If the petals get a chance for a team meet then he'll propose that Nyloth and the deep are actually the priorities at the moment as the centaurs seem more than capable of delivering the mirrors to the other isles.

Mak will find that things seem to be in order at the grove, and he is inclined to believe that the centaurs in Thanlus’ herd have no ulterior motives regarding the Petals or the mirrors. They inform Mak that they are only under order to see to the mirrors safety. They are not to move or otherwise disturb the mirrors until they hear from Pelonius.
As such Mak is inclined to return to the Petals.
Pelonius listens to what the Petals - and Brym - have to say.
”Very well, I will send Timapius here to accompany you to Fort Stag. Since this Deep seems to be a matter of great concern to perhaps a threat to the Isles, Timapius will sit in on your conversation with Nyloth and report back to me.” Timapius nods. If you press this issue, Pelonius is unyielding on having Timapius sit in. She will assure you she is to be trusted in this.
The Petals go down to Fort Stag. It’s about a 3 hour journey to the town. There, you are taken to an inn a bit up from the seaside dock area. It’s an odd combination of an inn and almost a fancy stable of sorts as it caters to both the noble and ignoble races. You recognize Nyloth - he appears as he has in the past - an older man with grey hair and beard cropped short. He wears a well used sword on his hip, and he wears a chain shirt. His clothing is well made and well worn. He moves with a certain grace. Mak will recognize he has the confidence of a noble and bearing of a practiced warrior.
He smiles and he says, ”Greetings to the Eight Petaled Rose. I am glad to have found you. Or rather, glad that you have found me.
Brym says, ”Yeah, that’s the guy.
He seems to have a couple of centaur “escorts” that fall in with him. Timapius suggests you go to a nearby meadow. Timapius dismisses the other two centaurs who reluctantly withdraw out of earshot, but still keep the group within sight.
Once at this clearing, Nyloth bows to the Petals and nods respectfully to Timapius and Brym.

He has sent messengers to find you, and he would like you to meet with him if you are willing to travel to Wedding City. He says he will pay you for your trouble but he did not specify further. I did say he believe you to be a noble and trustworthy group. He seemed rather upset about this whole issue and would tell me little specifics. I am sorry, I wish I had more to share with you.”

Elyas looks to the others to see where they want to go next
Pelonius probably wants those mirrors taken care of as soon as possible, but it is hard to pass up an opportunity to learn more about what is going on and maybe finally learn how to combat this Deep cult. the taurs have gone this long without having the mirrors to communicate, it is probably less urgent than doing something to stop the spread of the dangerous magic these cultists have.

DM Mark - Nyloth Monday March 7th, 2022 6:03:16 PM
The Petals listen to Nyloth and generally seem to think the centaurs can best handle delivering the mirrors to the other islands and that a visit to this sage named Ardian is in order, though Pelonius is awaiting and answer on this. Rolth seems to have heard of Ardian, and is hopeful his information may be of use. Kiwina says that the customs in Farginia can be strange, and Wil wonders why it is called Wedding City. Son Imod asks if the Petals should leave right away?
Nyloth replies,
”Farginia can indeed be an odd place. It’s a funny juxtaposition that they border Asildur. Whereas Asildur can be very rigid and controlling, Farginia values privacy and the rights of the individual above all else. I think the reason Fargunia has probably never been taken over is that most people find the place too annoying.
“As for urgency, that would be up to you. It seems this Ardian has been seeking information about The Deep, and he said that all roads on this seem to lead to you Petals. His inquiries about you brought him to me and he asked if I would contact you. Knowing you were seeking information about The Deep and those amulets, I said I would do my best to find you. I seems I have succeeded where his other messengers have failed. I like to think that Domi brings these things together.
“You should know that you Petals have developed a reputation. This can be both a blessing and a curse at times.
“Son Imod, I see no reason that you could not complete whatever WLA training you need before you go. Or, you could wait and pursue this in Wedding City. In fact, for any of you that are members of the WLA, they would very much like to know what it is you seek in pursuing this Deep you mention. What you wish to divulge is of course up to you. But if it is the threat you seem to think, they may be an ally in this.”
When Son Imod asks Brym where his two friends are, the faun replies, “Tar and Cael? I dunno. They’re around here somewhere. I’ll go find them.” Unless you stop him, the little faun trots off to find his friends.
You also know it generally takes a little time for Ramsey to make sure the Rose is provisioned and ready to sail. It will take a few days to reach Wedding City once you do leave.

Fargunia, he'd not associated the name "Wedding City" with the country, but he knew a little about Fargunia. He'd been on a bender there on his journey to the Isles and well, he'd been a little to free with his mouth and used up all his goodwill quickly enough that getting on a ship and leaving seemed the best course at the time. Wedding City seemed far enough away from where he'd been so maybe it would work out all right.
"Fargunia is a far sight better than Asildur in my opinion, if only they don't worship mind sucking plants that bury themselves in your brain and turn you into mindless zombies working for the overmind. It's a little too close to those too, so be on the look out. Wouldn't surprise me if those seeded creeps are in league with the Deep. Blasted pieces of animal droppings they are."

There is general agreement to stay at Fort Stag for a couple days to allow for WLA Training, and perhaps ask some questions there. Unless you have more questions for Nyloth, he will depart.
Rolth and Falco stop Brym from leaving to find Cael and Tar, offering to instead send for them. Brym is a bit annoyed - his shoulders slump and he pouts, ”Aw, come on! I’m not gonna cause any trouble. Anyway, good luck finding Cael and Tar. I left ‘em poking down around the docks, but they could be anywhere by now.”
It turns out finding a couple of mischievous fauns on Centaur Isle is not really that hard - just a little time consuming. It takes most of the day tracing sightings of the two, from the docks, to an irritated fruit seller, to a farmer with an orchard who chased them off, to a shepherd that had a wonderful time playing music with the pair, to eventually finding the two standing near a tree in a hollow by a creek. As you approach you see them holding sticks, about to poke them deep into a beehive in the cleft of the tree. ”Oh, hey you guys! We got some bread in town, and we’re about to get a bunch of honey to put on it! Wanna have some?”
Mak notes that Fargunia can’t be any worse than Asildur with their “mind sucking plants.” He wonders idly if perhaps Asildur may somehow be in league with the Deep.
Son Imod and Wil head over to the WLA Chapterhouse. Kiwina goes along to ask about Fargunia.
At the WLA Chapterhouse, the three (and anyone else that comes along) meet a centaur named Hirosum. He greets you warmly, and will arrange WLA training for whomever wants it. This training will take about two days, and costs are per usual. Asked about Fargunia, Hirosum will tell you what he knows (allowing you to read this information..)
He asks, ”As members of the WLA, what sort of adventures have you been on? You’ve been meeting with our herd leaders and the Lead Stallion, and all of Centaur Isle knows you as heroes in the land. Where are you headed from here? Do you require transport? A place to stay the night?”

Tsak listens to Hirosum in growing astonishment. The centaurs final words, nice place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there, seem to sum it up perfectly. The trick, he thinks, will be to find out what they need and then get out as soon as possible.

A very worried Brym turns to Falco, his eyes wide. ”Uh, now would be a good time to make that smoke thingy you were talking about!” What does Falco do?

Son Imod says to Kiwana, "If Nyloth could see them home that would be wonderful because we wouldn't have to have the crew or Fargunia deal with the fauns. Shall you ask him or I?"

As for the fauns, Elyas agrees with Ramsey that they would not be fitting crew members, and doesn't like the idea of bringing them all the way to Wedding City.

Things don’t end well with the faun’s search for honey. The Obscuring Mist does little to deter the bees, but it does give a moment for everyone to make a break for the creek. After some running and yelling and splashing and yelling the bees seem to lose interest and return to their hive. Tar and Cael are covered in welts and even Brym and Flaco suffer several stings. Fortunately, they were traveling with a cleric able to channel healing. As you look back, you see the fauns’ dropped loaves of bread and a cloud of bees at the tree. Tar and Cael consider going back to retrieve their bread and try again, but are quickly talked out of it. ”Oh, man. That was gonna be really good!” All head back to Fort Stag.
There is general agreement to leave the mirror delivery to the centaurs. Mak asks for info about Wedding City, but gets little info beyond the fact that it is a popular place for weddings in Fargunia, and that customs there are a littles more accommodating to folk than the rest of the country. But just a little.
There is some discussion about what to do with the fauns. Wil suggests perhaps they could do some task related to the mirrors. Kiwina, Son and Tsak ask Nyloth to look after the fauns. Nyloth says, ”I regret that I cannot do this. But here’s the thing. These centaurs are reactive and impulsive. They may be in a position to control things on their island, but if they are actually serious about opening up tauric society across the islands, they are going to have to adjust to new peoples, new customs and new ways of working out their problems.
“You may deal with the centaurs as you wish, but putting you in charge of them was a bit lazy on their part. Suggesting you have some sudden authority over these free willed creatures does not sit well with me. Domi’s teachings suggest that the centaurs will need to have the courage and self-discipline to address this matter themselves. I mean, if they cannot handle a few fauns roaming their island, how will they deal with a group of minotaurs or liontaurs here? And the fauns will need to exercise some measure of self-control or deal with the consequences. It is the way of things.”
With that, Nyloth will bid you farewell, and that you go with Domi’s blessing. Nyloth will then make a brief gesture and vanish.
Spellcraft DC 21:Highlight to display spoiler: {You suspect this was the effect of a Teleport spell, but no actual spell was cast, meaning it was not a silent use of Teleport. The gesture suggested something was done or activated though.}
Elyas asks the fauns what they wish to do. The fauns discuss this, and when they are told they will not accompany the Petals to Wedding City, they say they’d like to stay on Centaur Island for a bit.
The party is in agreement that they should go tell Pelonius in person of their decision. The fauns seem to follow you, playing music as you go.
A few questions then:
- What do you inform the centaurs about your decision to leave?
- What, if anything, do you inform the centaurs about the fauns? This will affect how the centaurs handle this issue.
- Ramsey has the ship ready to leave. What preparations do you make for your short sea voyage - spells cast, watches set during the night, etc.
- How do you spend your time during your couple days at sea?

"I propose that we report to Pelonius and Holyhocks that we intend to sail to Fargunia to seek more information about the Deep, which poses a threat to all of the Taur Isles. When we do so, we can inform them that, as we are leaving the island, that we can no longer guide the visiting fauns, and hope that they will be treated well. That would bode well for future liontaur and minotaur visitors to Centaur Isles."
Rolth will certainly take a watch during the night, happily pairing up with any of his fellow Petals. He keeps a sharp watch out when on duty. Otherwise he will pass the time by singing and playing to entertain the crew, help with the sailing, and otherwise trying to make himself useful.
