DM JamesM: Map - The Privvy

Snark was surprised the door was stuck and didn't swing open easily. He stepped back and cast Resistance.

Benni caught a whiff of the interior of the structure and asked for a light as he shoved the door open.

Kristoph cast Resistance on everyone as Blusinda moved up to provide some dim light.

Issac took out his sword and readied himself against what might be inside. He took a moment as he cast a spell to Detect Evil. He commented that this small building isn't really suited to keeping someone a prisoner.

Teddy reveals the scratches were made by a humanoid based on the spacing and number. Though he thought so at first, a person didn't make those. Gore-Thum and Teddy both seem shaken.

Detect Evil Highlight to display spoiler: {While nothing on the inside is pinging against his evil detector, Issac does sense an overall aura everywhere around him.}

Benni put his shoulder into it and pushed the door open. Trash pushed up against the door slid back and piled up against the wall to the left. The room inside was deep in shadow with little or no light. At the doorway where Blusinda stood you could see a stone work floor that seemed to slope away from the entryway. Just inside and in sight was a metal pole set into the ground with some kind of handle attached to it.

Darkvision or Low Light Highlight to display spoiler: {Blusinda's light was plenty to light the interior of the room for you. You could see three privvy holes set five feet apart, each with a box set high on the wall behind them. A pipe and a chain lead down from the boxes. The pipe went into the back of the privvy seat and the chain swayed loosely against the wall in the breeze created by the door opening. }

Perception DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {The trash in the room appears to be old cloth of some sort, dry rotted, and likely flammable. Should Blusinda enter the room she'll probably set the entire place aflame.}

Perception AND Low Light or Darkvision DC 17 (Requires Both) Highlight to display spoiler: {You notice a clawed hand as it reaches up out of the center privvy hole.}

DM James: Will be entering into a surprise round. If you make the second perception check you'll be able to act and are not surprised.

(Perception:16) Kristoph spots something and says (in Ignan): Highlight to display spoiler: {"Blusinda stay here"!}
When he notes the strange looks he replies: "I told Blusinda stay here and I wouldn't suggest any naked flame in there"!

(Perception 29, low light vision)

"Yech. It's an old privy. That would explain the stink."

Then he sees something clawing it's way out of one of the seats. "Look out! Something nasty is clawing it's way outta that hole. Somebody get a light in here while I make Isaac big!"

Snark had his wand at the ready so he casts Enlarge on Isaac.

Enlarge Person - This increase changes the creature’s size category to the next larger one. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet. This spell does not change the target’s speed. Equipment is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee weapons deal more damage. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature’s possession instantly returns to its normal size.

Onesimos’ elfin eyesight can see the room and he lets out a sigh and laugh at the same time. ”No nasties in this place. Whew! Why would anyone want to lock this place?”

The cleric is only just registering what Snark is saying, and can’t see any creature.

Isaac looks around "A outhouse? Why lock it up though?"
Isaac doesn't see the signs of something dangerous so it's not until Snark says something that he realizes they have a fight on their hands.

After the DM's addendum - Kristoph made a will save over 25 on Monday March 28th, so remains unshaken. However, he does not posses any enhanced vision and stares into the darkness trying to make sense of what is happening... (aka will be surprised).

Teddy does see the creature (21 perception) and cries out. At Snark's call he casts a light spell to illuminate the area.
