DM JamesM: Map - The Privvy Thursday March 31st, 2022 8:58:50 AM Snark was surprised the door was stuck and didn't swing open easily. He stepped back and cast Resistance.
Benni caught a whiff of the interior of the structure and asked for a light as he shoved the door open.
Kristoph cast Resistance on everyone as Blusinda moved up to provide some dim light.
Issac took out his sword and readied himself against what might be inside. He took a moment as he cast a spell to Detect Evil. He commented that this small building isn't really suited to keeping someone a prisoner.
Teddy reveals the scratches were made by a humanoid based on the spacing and number. Though he thought so at first, a person didn't make those. Gore-Thum and Teddy both seem shaken.
Detect Evil Highlight to display spoiler: {While nothing on the inside is pinging against his evil detector, Issac does sense an overall aura everywhere around him.}
Benni put his shoulder into it and pushed the door open. Trash pushed up against the door slid back and piled up against the wall to the left. The room inside was deep in shadow with little or no light. At the doorway where Blusinda stood you could see a stone work floor that seemed to slope away from the entryway. Just inside and in sight was a metal pole set into the ground with some kind of handle attached to it.
Darkvision or Low Light Highlight to display spoiler: {Blusinda's light was plenty to light the interior of the room for you. You could see three privvy holes set five feet apart, each with a box set high on the wall behind them. A pipe and a chain lead down from the boxes. The pipe went into the back of the privvy seat and the chain swayed loosely against the wall in the breeze created by the door opening. }
Perception DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {The trash in the room appears to be old cloth of some sort, dry rotted, and likely flammable. Should Blusinda enter the room she'll probably set the entire place aflame.}
Perception AND Low Light or Darkvision DC 17 (Requires Both) Highlight to display spoiler: {You notice a clawed hand as it reaches up out of the center privvy hole.}
DM James: Will be entering into a surprise round. If you make the second perception check you'll be able to act and are not surprised.

Snark had his wand at the ready so he casts Enlarge on Isaac.
---------------------------- Enlarge Person - This increase changes the creature’s size category to the next larger one. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. Cory may spot Kristoph - a wiry, stocky, gruff looking human with a beak of a nose. Half his face has been burned and he wears an eye patch. He wears practical light clothing and has what can only be described as a cat made of blue fire by his side.
Hearing the restroom-zombies (OOC who thinks this stuff up? lol) before he sees (or smells) them, Kristoph gags slightly and involuntarily takes a 5ft step back, composing himself he performs martial moves with his hands he throws a small ball of blue-fire at them. (If necessary he waits till one is in the doorway or exits but will try to get the attack in before melee occurs).
Firebolt (ranged touch attack): 17 for 4 (fire damage).
After having thrown it (if the DM & Julie wishes) he sees (Perception:23) Cory and yells: "Hey, you might want to be careful we have some toilet zombies over here"!

Against the loo zombies? I don't want anyone making any mistakes," Cory said as she slowly readied a shortbow, taking care not to point it in their direction. She wore muted clothes with the glint of a chain shirt underneath a utilitarian over tunic. She had a slim blade on her hip. She was very average looking, probably half elven, with muddy brown hair, brown eyes, neither tall nor short, no distinguishing marks - in short, completely forgettable. Cory looked around carefully, for both bathroom baddies and friends of the man with the electric kitty.

Kristoph makes a few ninja like moves with his hands and then throws a ball of blue fire at the "Loo Zombie" coming out the door.
Teddy stood in place while Gore Thum moved forward to flank the creatures.
Snark tossed his Glitterdust spell into the building and it exploded in a shiny cloud of glittering particles that hung in the air for the time being. While everyone withdrew to position themselves better Kristoph sent his firebolt into the Loo. It smacked into the face of the creature and knocked it to one side as two others clambered over it and out of the building leaving a blinded and burnt one at the door. Blusinda darted past the two remaining abberations and as she did so a strange thing happened that clearly surprised Snark. Mostly because it shouldn't have happened. With each of Blusinda's dainty paws that landed in the greased up area a circle of blue fire lit and started expanding out from the point of impact. Snark finds it odd that his grease spell suddenly became flammable - it's not usuallly so but he's not sure what changed.
He looks into the fire in the latrine, and he sees the books. "Yikes, there're some books in there. My wizard friend Olostim wanted us to look for some books here. Probably not the ones he wants if they're just in the outhouse, but still, it would be good to see what they're about."
The gnome wizard begins to gesture and soon (Summon Monster II, full round casting time) he has summoned a small water elemental. He points at the fire, gesturing for the thing to act. Even a small water elemental has a Drench ability, able to put out fires of large size or smaller without harming the elemental. In a round or two, the fires should be gone.
Snark is also careful to stand between the water elemental and the firecat to make sure it does not attack Blusinda.

OoC: So do grease fires in fantasy games follow the real world law of don't try to put it out with water? Because if they do this will be very explosive very soon.
DM James: We are going to assume that "grease" isn't oil and won't float when covered with water.

The frog seems to have a small sized teddy bear. Except the teddy bear is wearing a simple outfit, trembling, and covering it's head as if it expects something to come soaring over there any second now just to hit him.
DM JamesM: Map - Farewell to Tae Friday April 8th, 2022 8:34:52 AM Tae-Che stopped and appeared to be talking to a tall white clad man.
Benni called out that it was indeed time to take cover as he ran to the wall.
Issac backed away from the building.
Snark remembered something he learned about spells in other dimensions. He then mentioned that his friend was looking for some books and though it was unlikely they'd be in a loo he still wanted to look at them. He summoned a water elemental to put out the fire.
Cory followed the others to the wall.

The water elemental entered the building and immediately there was this sizzling sound as the vapor created by the heat started to react with the grease fire. At Snarks command the elemental released a deluge of water onto the fire. KaBAMMMM! The explosion that followed was deafening, but the result was that both the elemental and the fire were gone.
As Blusinda looked on with disappointment everyones gaze turned to Tae-Che. She had buried her face in the man's chest as he folded his arms around her. From the motion of her body you could all tell that she was crying in great heaves of despair. As you watched the tall white clad man looked into the sky as great white feathered wings unfolded from his back. The Angel gathered up Tae in his arms like a child as his impossibly large wings beat against the ground and lifted himself and Tae into the sky. A few moments passed as they gained altitude until a white portal opened in the sky and both entered it.
For a few moments the light from the portal lingered bathing the area in it's luminescence and the gnawing fear that had gripped everyone faded away and left them feeling happy and whole.

During the true "meet & greet" Benni attempted to bring some humor and levity to the situation, however, his comments appeared to have upset Snark, Teddy, and GoreThum.
There are items saved from the fire that occurred in the outbuilding. Prior to the fire, the building could have been cleaned out, up, and repaired and would have made a good base for further exploration of the Abbey grounds. Now, it would take some investigation by masons and carpenters to determine if the building is structurally sound or not.
Issac and Snark have brought up continuing the investigations into the second part of the Abbey that the party has a key for, but the current conversation seems to have momentarily derailed that decision.

DM Jon: Abbey's Away Wednesday April 13th, 2022 1:28:58 PM GM Clarification - I had initially read James's idea that the outhouse building was the one that could be a possible base for the party, and when I looked again, it's not the one James had in mind, which is probably a good thing as who'd want to camp out in an oversized bathroom.
So looking about the party does see a building by itself, close to the Abbey. It's in a close enough proximity, that if the smoldering building you're all next to, was the privvy, then most likely the building would be housing of some kind. As the sense of dread is currently being countered by Tae Che's ascension, it's an easy 5-minute stroll to this other outbuilding.
Looking at the two keys the party still has, the smaller of the two fits the lock on this door. [dimensions and map will be forthcoming] The door opens to reveal what at one time was a residence. A large common room with a fireplace and three rooms that might function as bedrooms. The place is a mess with moldy furniture and debris scattered about it. The walls do have hangings on them, but they are also more debris than artwork.
There is an odd smell to the room, who knows how long it's been since anyone has opened the door, so its a mix of must, dust, mold, and whatever.
KS: Engineering DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { With some thorough cleaning, this building is structurally sound and could be used as a base, or a storage facility, especially since you have the key to lock the building.}

DM Jon: Abbey's Away Thursday April 14th, 2022 1:35:27 PM
Sensing trouble, Snark enlarges GoreThum who steps into the common room.
As GoreThum moves into the room, looking for trouble, a wave of Dire Rats explodes from under the piles of debris. All of them look hungry, and the party looks like a great snack.
GoreThum finds himself facing five of the nasty creatures, three are able to sink their teeth into him, for a total of 5 damage.
Three rats go after Kristoph, and one seems brave enough to go after Blusinda, she is a cat, and that's a delicacy to Dire rats apparently. One of the three gets through Kristioph's armor and deals 1 point of damage. The rat that went after Blusinda bites her and she takes 1 point of damage. The wily rat escapes being caught on fire but also takes 1 point of fire damage.
One rat makes its way to Snark, Teddy, and Benni .. of the three, only Benni gets gnawed on for a whole 1 point of damage.

(Gore'Thum should get an AOO on one of the rats.)
"I'm sensing a rat theme with this place. Maybe we should call this place Rat Abbey. At least these ones are whole."
Snark steps back 5' and casts Burning Sphere. He puts there sphere in the square of one of these nasty things. (Yellow square on the board, Damage 9, Reflex Save DC 15 negates.)
---------------------------- Flaming Sphere - 5' diameter sphere. Deals 3d6 points of fire damage to a creature, though a successful Reflex save negates that damage. Move action to move the sphere 30'. Range 130'.
Enlarge Person - This increase changes the creature’s size category to the next larger one. The target gains a +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size. A humanoid creature whose size increases to Large has a space of 10 feet and a natural reach of 10 feet. This spell does not change the target’s speed. Equipment is similarly enlarged by the spell. Melee weapons deal more damage. Any enlarged item that leaves an enlarged creature’s possession instantly returns to its normal size.

The party looks around through the debris, but finds nothing of value, other than the building itself. It is soon discovered that the Dire Rats were getting into and out of the building through a corner section of the fireplace, where they had dug a stone out. An easy fix for anyone skilled at masonry. The building's strong bones and walls, does make for an great base, and it's proximity to the Abbey would provide a closer location for exploring than going to and from town.
Kristoph tends to everyone's wounds (returning 5 hp to everyone), and he examines Blusinda's bite wound.
