Kiwina goes full round attack on CG 1 but only seems to graze the construct.
Mak's adamantine rapier seems to be the most effective weapon on the battle field, so he heads over to CG 1, hoping someone finishes off CG 2.
Wil sends his muddy friend over to try to entrap CG 1, but the elemental misses it's target. his spiritual weapon also misses. He swims over to Mak and gives him some healing while asking if they should tie up CG 2.
Rolth decide to finish of CG 2, and after his first attack, the golem crumbles into a pile of corral pieces.
Son Imod is ready to flurry CG 2, but it's nothing but a pile of corral bits.
Falco believes that these creatures have fast healing, and not regeneration. When he sees CG 2 crumble apart, his suspicions are confirmed.
As CG 2 collapses into a pile of corral, the front door of the Corral Tower opens, and a merman pokes his head out. he see's CG 1 about to attack Mak, and orders the construct to stand down. the golem immediately stops what it's doing and returns to it place by the door, where it reverts to statue mode.
The merman looks at the pile of corral that was once CG 2 and grumbles under his breath, "Great now I have to rebuild him!" Turning towards the Petals, he frowns and demands, in a very sharp tone, "Who are you and what do you want!"

Mak answers the merman in a rather abrupt manner, even threatening to finish off the other golem. "I wouldn't recommend that.", is all the merman says nonchalantly.
Elyas apologizes for destroying the golem, as he calls off his elemental. The merman puts up his hand, to stop the mage, and lets out an exasperated sigh.
Wil's disappointed they don't get to finish off the second golem, and hopes all merfolk don't hold grudges, as he has had dealings with their kind in the past. He withdrawals his mud elemental and names him Buddy, as he channels energy. The merman doesn't seem to be affected by Wil's rambling.
Rolth sighs over Mak and Wil's outbursts, but presents the medallion from Ardian, and gives a fine appeal to the greater good, and mutual benefit of all parties involved. He also apologizes for the destruction of the golem.
Kiwina reverts his weapons back to a rod, than adds to Rolth's words.
Son Imod tries to get a feel for the going ons.
Tsak reminisces over times in the beginning when Rolth and Kiwina attempted and failed to use diplomacy, feeling they have really grown. He moves to stand next to Mak, and watches to see how things will play out.
"You are all very rude." The merfolk begins as he scans the Petals, "And some more than others!". His eyes lock on Mak as he says the last bit. Releasing his locked gaze on Mak, the merman goes back to scanning the group as he says, "I say you are rude because you haven't answered my questions, I asked who you are and what do you want. Two very simple questions but you only hint about the second question, and fail altogether to answer the first! Well, rude ones, you might as well come inside, and maybe you will find your manners over tea. Oh and make yourselves useful and bring those corral bits inside with you. I'm going to have to rebuild him later, and it's the least you can do since you destroyed him. Don't think I didn't see your coup de grace!" With that, the merman turns and swims back inside the corral tower.
Son Imod can tell that under his gruff and crass exterior, the merman does seem interested in hearing the Petal's out.
Do our intrepid heroes follow he merman inside, and if so, do they bring the broken golem pieces with them? Tune in next time to find out. Same bat time, same bat channel.

You may have heard of us as the champions of the recent Taurnament of Roses. I am Rolth Niheow, originally from Liontaur Isle, but more lately dedicated to the work of Domi across and around the isles. DM Jeremy Battle Map Wednesday April 13th, 2022 12:11:41 PM For the record, you DM is an idiot. this whole time I've been writing corral instead of coral, Can you imagine the size of a golem made out of a corral, and what would it's attack be, chuck a steer at the enemy? Maybe we should call that last fight the shoot-out at the OK coral. LOL
Elyas picks up what pieces he can, and his elemental picks up some more. He realizes that they Petals didn't make the best 1st impression, so he keeps his mouth shut. He is curious about the golem, and wouldn't mind being asked to help rebuild it.
Rolth makes formal introductions and considers the idea of tea most delightful. He gives a brief idea as to their reason for coming, but says that a proper explanation would require time, and would best discussed over tea, though he does ask if the ship can be enchanted. He carries what pieces, of coral he can. He keeps his eyes peeled for any signs of the deep.
Tsak assures Mak that things are fine, and than picks up what coral he can.
Mak tells Tsak that he used to be a smooth talker, and asks when he became such a grizzled old warrior. He is slightly irritated at how well Rolth and Kiwina use diplomacy
Wil laughs at Tsak's fish comment, and picks up some coral pieces. He asks if their is any sugar and crumpets to go with the tea, and then asks what a crumpet is. The merman simply rolls his eyes and says, You can have sugar if you want it, you can have honey if you want it, heck you can add milk if you want, but I have no idea what a crumpet is."
KIwina picks up some coral and than adds to Rolth's introduction. He makes a mental note that this merman hasn't introduced himself.
Son Imod lets his friends know that the merman is interested in what they have to say, as he hauls as much coral as he can.
Mak wonders how tea will taste at the bottom of the ocean, and how it would even be prepared. He resolves to wait and see.
Falco also wonders how the tea will be made and presented, he helps carry coral, and examines a piece as his friends make introductions. it looks just like a piece of coral. if he were to cast detect magic on it, it would radiate a lingering aura, but that is to be expected, considering it was part of a golem.
As they walk into the Coral Tower, the merman says, "SInce you were sent by Ardian than I suppose you are looking for Jennis. Todays your lucky day for I am Jennis. Oh, you can place the coral right their, and I will need that piece bird man, but feel free to examine it."
You instant realize that Jennis didn't need you to carry the coral, since their is a sizable pile outside still, and he just had you place in a corner just inside the tower. You notice the other golem coming back to life and watch it begin gathering the pieces. You surmise that Jennis is testing you, and based a slight but noticeable attitude change, you believe you passed.
The interior of the tower is nothing like the exterior. While the exterior is a featureless clump of coral, resembling more of a reef than a tower, the interior is immaculate, resembling the interior of a palace. You also notice that the internal dimensions seem somehow larger, and quite a bit so, than the exterior. Jennis leads you through his amazing underwater home and ushers you into what is obviously a library. Of course all the books are waterproof. Jennis waves his hand and mumbles some words, and chairs of various sizes walk into the room. and for our four legged members plush pillows roll in all by themselves. Jennis snaps his fingers, and all the water in the room is instantly replaced by air, and everything, including the Petals is somehow perfectly dry. He takes a seat, and asks the Petals to do likewise, then he waves his hands again and mumbles some different words, and a teapot and cups of differing sizes appear on a small table in the center of the room. their is also a bowl filled with sugar cubes, a honey pot, and a pitcher filled with milk. even though the teapot is rather small, not holding more than 4 or 5 cups. it begins pouring steaming hot tea into the cups, and it fills them all, including one minotaur sized cup. Jennis asks each of you how you like your tea, and if you request anything put in, the sugar tongs, honey spoon, or milk pitcher dispense themselves into your cup in your exact preferred proportions, and then the cup flies across the room, only to rest in front of you waiting for you to pick it up.
"Would anyone like some cookies, or maybe some toast and jam?" If anyone makes a request, it will appear on an appropriately sized plate in front of them. The plate will continue to hover in thin air so you can dine at your leisure.
"Now that everyone has their tea and maybe a bit of nosh, tell me the whole story, and what exactly you want from me."

In our adventures across the Taur Isles, we have run into signs and minions of an evil power known as the Deep. The Deep is some sort of malevolent power that seems to be making a play for domination in the region. It's minions distribute magical amulets that warp the minds of their wearers, turning them into mindless, aggressive pawns. We met a chuul that used a piece of the Deep, part of a tentacle, to cursedly warp the flesh of those in its thrall, making them tentacled monstrosities. The chuul was accompanied by frog-like Deep Ones. The chuul promised us power if we joined it, and madness, despair and death if we resisted. Earlier, we encountered and defeated a sort of reverse Cecaelia named Aaroth, who told tales of a coming doom that was beyond our understanding. And on our sailing journeys, we passed a great rock formation that looked tentacled as well."
"Ardian has also been investigating the Deep, and sent a messenger asking us to come visit him and share what we had learned. In our discussions, he revealed this is a very old creature of some sort, an evil thing bent on destruction. So far, it has only been able to indirectly affect nearby evil creatures, but this is not the creature’s first attempt. Long ago the creature had a gateway from another place into the Wold. Nearby underwater races were subjugated, and fell thrall to this thing. Eventually, heroes rose up from these aquatic folk. They fought the creature back. They were not strong enough to destroy it, so they sealed it with a Teucri artifact. They broke the artifact into several items, and hid them.”
"Now, the seals on this prison have begun to fail, and the power of the entity known as the Deep has begun to push back through. Ardian has asked us to find the pieces of the Teucri artifact so that the Deep can be defeated once and for all. Apparently, the pieces are hidden underwater, so Ardian suggested that we come see you in order to have our ship enchanted and allow it to carry us safely in this underwater quest. So, that is our story and what we would like from you. Knowing this, will you help us?"

Elyas is impressed by Jennis's magic. He determines that the walking chairs and rolling pillows were a modified animate object spell, however other than it being conjuration, the tea and food appearing and serving itself, is something new to him, and as far as the water, in the room, being replaced with dry air, he's pretty sure that is somehow related to the magic of the tower itself, however, it is something new to him, much like the impossibility of the inside of the tower being larger than the outside. He retrieves the defunct medallion to show Jennis.
Rolth does a fine job of relating what they know, and what their mission is, as well as their purpose for this visit.
Wil is amazed by the magic of the tower, and finds he has a momentary break from the chaos in his head.
Tsak enjoys the hospitality of the tower, as he pokes fun at Mak. He believes Rolth has done a fine job of relating their mission, as usual.
Kiwina feels Rolth summed things up nicely, and watches Jennis for any signs.
Son Imod adds that the deep threatens unity among the taur races.
Falco is a little disappointed that their isn't more to the coral piece, but enjoys the hospitality.
Kiwina notices very slight facial changes, as Rolth relates their tale. He notices an ever so slight sense of pride when Rolth talks about the past, and how the merfolk defeated and locked up the Deep. He also notices a sense of urgency and perhaps hint of fear, when Rolth mentions the fact that the Deep's prison is failing. Of course these facial tells would be unnoticeable for anyone not looking for them, and skilled at spotting them.
When Rolth is done telling his tale, Jennis sets down his tea cup, and in a very controlled and proper fashion says, "I, of course am familiar with the history of my people, and their dealings with the Deep. It is grave news indeed to learn that the prison is failing, and I of course will do what I can to help you on your quest. I confess I'm not sure what you eight can do, but if you wish to rectify this situation, or die in the attempt, than you will have your submersible ship. Many a sailor has come and asked me to enchant their ship, offering me great wealth, but as you can see I have little need for more wealth, and so I've never offered my skills to any before. I do, however, desire to see the Wold protected, and the work of my ancestors preserved, and so once our tea time is completed we will ascend to the surface and your ship. please enjoy your tea, and if you wish for any other treat or more tea simply speak it, and it will appear. I however need to gather a few things, things I'll need to enchant your ship, and with that, Jennis stands up and leaves the room.

Kiwina has questions for Jennis -- quite possibly to no one's surprise. . .
"Before you do anything to our home -- which is what the Rose is -- and the home of our crew, we need to know what the results will be. Would be be better off finding another ship to bewitch, so that we may continue to use ours to sail the ocean? Is what you plan permanent -- and if not, how do we know it will wear off at a time that suits the mission? We should consult the crew, to be sure they do not object to the notion of sailing under the water, if that is really what you propose we do. I do not want anyone to lose their nerve who wasn't warned of what awaited them and had a chance to consider it."

Kiwina wants to know what will be done to their ship, and how it will affect them and their crew.
Wil requests an odd biscuit, and receives it. Roll a d100 1-50 tastes like a raspberry scone 51-100 tastes like cough medicine. He cracks a joke, but believes things will be OK.
Tsak thinks this diplomacy thing can be intresting, and mentions to mak that things are getting real.
Mak isn't surprised over Kiwina's game of 20 questions, though he finds it a bit boring, or is that predictable? He cracks a joke with Tsak.
Rolth finds Kiwina's questions less than adventerus, but thanks Jennis for his offer of help. He does ask a few questions revolving around the keys, or anything else that may help with their quest.
Son Imod is deep in thought.
Falco is surprised that the golems is the only confrontation here. he allows the others to ask their questions, as he finds the whole thing adventurous.
Jennis stops in the doorway as Kiwina asks his questions. It is obvious he isn't used to being questioned, as he turns to face Kiwina. He lets out a exasperated sigh before he answers any questions, than says. "First you ask me to enchant your ship, and then you ask me how it will be done, and question my skill in the endeavor. Do you have seaweed for brains?!"
Jennis takes a deep breath and regains his composer then says, "The magic is simple and permanent, unless dispelled, of course. I have no control over some enemy, you may make, someday down the line, somehow overcoming my magic, but they will either have to be extremely powerful or extremely lucky. (He's a level 20 caster) I will install a magical lever next to the helm wheel, of your ship. When you push it forward, you decent, and when you pull back, you ascend. Since you are all air breathers, I will make it so your ship is encased in a bubble of air when you descend, allowing you to breath and act normally. This air pocket will extend to the crows nest of your ship, but it will only be the width and length of your ship. Obviously there is a slight learning curve to master the use and navigation of the oceanic currents, As you will be using them instead of wind for propulsion, but that is something you will have to figure out for yourselves. Do you have anymore questions, or are you done wasting my time?
Turning to Rolth he says, "Your questions I understand, but I don't have much if anything to tell. I know of the stories, and believe them to be true, but to most of my people the Deep is a legend, a story to tell our fry to encourage good behavior. "You better behave or the Deep will get you!" that sort of thing. I never studied the subject so I can't really offer any help, though I can tell you this, Ardian, for as long as I've known him, has been border line obsessed with the subject, especially in recent years. He's convinced that the Deep is going to escape, but of course no one seems to believe him, well no one who actually may have heard of the Deep anyway. I even doubted him until you showed me the amulet, and shared your tale.
Now do you have anymore questions or concerns, or am I free to retrieve the needed components?"

Jennis can assume some nonexistent insult if he wants, but the sudden indifference of Kiwina's friend to the ship and crew stings. "Unless Domi's idea of bravery is jumping off a cliff without knowing what's below, I believe you owe me an apology, Rolth. Especially when you may be able to climb down." Jennis, to answer your latest question, I think it is time to proceed with retrieving the components. Please let us know if we can assist with that in any way." In the interest of comity, Rolth leaves unremarked Kiwina's tone in addressing Jennis, which seemed to him all too demanding coming from a supplicant whose needs were being met; he does admit that his own tone in retort was also ill-considered, so calls it a draw.

Wil has bad luck with his biscuit, but believes that the Petals have luck on their side.
Kiwina is fine if Jennis fells insulted, even if no slight was intended, but he feels Rolth owes him an apology due to his belief that Rolth is showing indifference to the ship and crew. He plans to explain everything to the crew, allowing them to leave if they want.
Elyas is glad the enchanting will come so easily, but worries about the test Ardain suggested may be coming. Elyas doesn't want anymore delays, so he drinks his teas quietly.
Rolth apologizes to Kiwina, and suggests they do as Kiwina suggested, concerning the crew. he tells Jennis that he can retrieve the components and asks if the merman needs any help.
Tsak sighs as Rolth and Kiwina have their disagreement, and makes a mental note to avoid a duel with Mak. He has another biscuit, dunking it in his tea.
Mak enjoys a nice piece of birthday cake.
Son Imod informs Jennis that sailors can be a superstitious lot, and asks if he has anything he can say to the crew, making it clear he means no disrespect.
Jennis listens to everything the Petals have to say. He rolls his eyes over Rolth and Kiwina's misunderstanding, and it is clear he isn't overly comfortable or at least inexperienced in interacting with others, as his mannerisms a more than a bit rough around the edges. He addresses Son Imod by saying, "I'm not one for fancy talk, but it seems some of your friends have the gift. That said, what sailor, worth their salt wouldn't be lining up for the chance to sail on a ship that can sail underwater? Superstition or no, that would be an adventure very few could claim to have had." Turning to Falco he says, "It appears I'm even less understanding of the needs of air breathers than I thought. What you say makes sense, so I will extend the bubble to 10 ft past your ships deck in all directions. Would that suffice?" Elyas is excited to try sailing underwater. He comments on Jennis's lack of social graces.
Rolth jokes about sailing to the moons. He feels comfortable that Kiwina will be able to persuade the crew.
Tsak jokingly tells Rolth to hold his ambitions for a bit. He also believes Kiwina will be able to convince the crew, but he worries about how how is going to break it to Esmeralda.
Kiwina actually has a plan to sail to the moon. He wonders if the folding boat will hold the crew when they test the modifications.
Wil heard the moon is made of cheese, and he would like to taste it.
Son Imod wonders if they will meet Warrd if they head to the moon, and figures it's time to start moving forward.
Falco finds Jennis's modification to the air bubble satisfactory, and is excited to see how it works. He wonders how well the crew will be able to handle the unique sailing conditions.
As the Petals discuss whats next and fantasy about sailing to the moon, Jennis returns. He returns just in time to overhear Son Imod talking about meeting Warrd. "It's possible, assuming you go to the right moon. If you go to Kerracles instead of Warrd, you chances would be pretty small. The merman is carrying a satchel over his shoulder, and your pretty sure it's a bag of holding, because it is way to small to be holding the lever, Jennis mentioned he would be installing. "I'm ready shall we go? Everyone hold onto each other, and I'll teleport us to your ship."
When you arrive back on the Rose, something is astir. You see a minotaur you have never met before standing next to a human monk wearing white robes. The crew is going out of their way to make the monk comfortable, and the minotaur is trying hard to stay out of the way, as it is clear he also reveres the monk. Seeing the arrival of the Petals, the monk stands and walks towards them, "Greetings members of the Eight Petaled Rose, I have come to retrieve one of your members, as I feel his work here is done, and it is time for him to move on. Son Imod please step forward. I sent you to help reunite the taur races, and you have done well! I know there maybe more work to do, but I have need of you elsewhere." The monk turns and addresses the rest of the petals, "I'm taking away your minotaur, and leaving you a new one. Treat him well." As soon as he finishes saying that, both him and Son Imod vanish, leaving the new minotaur behind.

He clears his throat and then in a lighter tone, "Oh don't worry it is none of you. Imod assured me of this. He said if I traveled with you that one day I will have vengeance for my father's death. As for reunifying the fractured Taurs it is a noble goal and I will help if I can."
Ayotnom tells Rolth, "I have somewhat of an eclictic background. I've studied martial arts, martial aptitude and magic. As I adventure with you I intend to marry my high intellect with my martial aptitude and become a duelist. I prefer to fight with my rapier, which is my bonded item and I can cast a few spells but my repetoire of spells will always be rather limited compared to a full caster. I can wrestle and disarm my foes without giving them an opening to attack while I do so. I know how to flurry with unarmed strikes as well as with some exotic monk weapons and can stun with my unarmed strikes potentially. As a Universalist Wizard my special bloodline power allows me to turn my rapier into a projectile with a 30 foot range that returns to my hand after I've attacked with it. I am also fairly mobile and can strike all foes within reach one time using my whirlwind attack.

Elyas says farewell to a now departed Son Imod. He claims that once a Petal, always a Petal. he also introduces himself to the new arrival.
Wil is bummed that Son Imod is gone, but turns to meet the replacement minotaur, giving him a very brief, and probably confusing run down as to the petals current quest.
Tsak introduces himself and offer to explain the curren situation to the new guy over a wee bit of rum.
Mak lets those who know about magic make the decisions.
Kiwina is nonplussed about the departure of Son Imod, but asks the new guy share a bit about himself.
Rolth asks the new guy if he is willing to pick up where Son Imod left off, and than introduces himself.
Ayotnom introduces himself and claims he wishes to avenge his fathers murder. He shares a brief run down of his skill set, and hopes to be as noble as Son Imod.
Mak wonders if all Minotaurs are dyslexic, and isn't so sure about a magic using duelist. than again he's a bow using duelist, which is equally odd.
Falco is lost in thought over what he gave up to become a healer. So much so that he didn't realize what was going on until Son Imod was gone. He comments on Ayotnom's introduction and asks about a six fingered man, which of course is inconceivable.
As the Monk and Son Imod vanish, you look around and see that Ramsey and the crew are all staring wide eyed, and slack jawed, in awe of the departed. Finally the brambletaur captain shakes himself out of his awe struck stupor, and than asks, "How can you guys act so nonchalant, don't you know who that was? That was Domi, or I'm a goat! Anyway who's the merman, and what's this talk about sinking the Rose?"

Is this really the god you follow so zealously? How much more effort would he have really needed to expend unless he is powerless against the Deep?"
"Ramsey my friend, is that really the strangest thing you have seen on our voyage together? for some, i think seeing a Brambletaur might be weirder than seeing a manifestation of one of the gods! We sailed the Sargrass together, fought against all manner of strange foes, teleported things on and off the ship, got stolen away in the middle of a fight to a fey feast... probably a few others that I'm forgetting now.
Oh, yeah and if you think all that was strange, you should know we asked this fine merperson to make the rose sail... underwater.

Kiwina is mildly amused by Mak's assessment, much like his own assessment of Nyloth. But more serious matters have to be attended to.
"Ramsey, gather the crew. Everyone needs to hear this." Kiwina explains that in order to help fight the Deep, the thing that has threatened the Taur Isles and quite probably the Rose a few times, the merman wizard with them is going to modify the Rose so that it can sail underwater. "If any of you are worried about your safety, we will not force you to remain on board when we sail underwater. During our trials of these modifications, you can man a boat. Once we get back to a port, you can find other passage. . . Of course, we hope that you will all decide to stay."

Mak is convinced that Domi is lazy, and that he should be the one dealing with the Deep.
Elyas suggests that seeing Domi is probably one of the least strange things that the Petals have seen or done, and tells Ramsey that Jennis is going to give the Rose the ability to sail underwater.
Kiwina doesn't disagree with Mak, but figures there are more important things to say right now. He tells the crew what the plan is and lets them know that they are free to sit this one out, and even find another ship if they so desire.
Rolth is disappointed he didn't realize he was in Domi's presence, but is glad he say him before seeing Gargul. He nods his encouragement as Kiwina explains things to the crew, hoping the crew will want to stay.
Ayotnom is surprised that the Petals have met Ma'ab, and claims that Domi/Imod was this first deity encounter. He asks if Rolth thinks this quest will end in a visit to Lord Gargul.
Mak doubles down on his lack of faith in Domi's ability
Will, as is often the case, missed most of the conversation.
Falco has no problem believing they just saw Domi, after all they were there when the three aspects of the Sarr revealed themselves, a situation that changed him permanently.
Jennis seems shocked when he realizes he was in the presence of the god of bravery. When Mak brings up his assessment of Domi, the wizard looks him in the eye and says, "I'm no cleric, nor am I studied in the ways of the gods, But since I was just a fry, I was always told that the gods often stay their hand and let the people prove themselves. If the gods intervened every time something bad happened, how would we ever hear stories of heroes risking life and limb to save the day? As a member of a heroic adventuring group, you should realize that you would be out of a job, if the gods did as you suggest."
Ramsey says, "I for one trust you Petals, and see this as a unique adventure I look forward to discovering this new mode of sailing." Turning to the crew, the brambletaur says, "You heard captain Kiwina, You have a choice. Anyone who doesn't want to sail below the waves is welcome to depart at our next port of call, with no one feeling the worst of you. So everyone willing to embark on this new adventure please step forward." When Ramsey finishes speaking, to a person, all the crew members step forward in unison.
Turning to face the Petals, Ramsey says, "I think you have your answer"

Mak's back! Tsak grins as his friend turns back into an old grump right before his eyes. He puts his arm around him and steers him toward the barrel he was using as a table with the small flask of rum and a couple of small wooden tumblers. Psychotic plant, pah, you had it easy! When I were a young man I had to endure 12 years of dwarven cooking. Have you seen what those buggers can do to a loaf of bread? And don't get me started on jambalya...
The two share a quick dram, but then turn their attention back to the merman and his preparations. Tsak is happy the crew is brave enough to back them, he's become quite attached to most of them. Also keeping the team together as they try something as absurd as sailing the underwater currents makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately as he follows the merman around and listens to him talk, he just becomes more and more confused. Hopefully Kiwina and Ramsay have a better handle on the whole thing.

If the Gods went around solving every little problem we had Themselves would there be such a thing as free will or would we all be the equivalent of little puppet playthings dancing on strings while the Gods who were essentially puppeteers went around fixing things, making them static and keeping us safe."
The Taur continues, "The way I see it we either have dangerous freedom the way we do where bad things can happen to good people and the past can hurt but we as individuals can learn from the pain, grow and choose to do something about the ills of the world ourselves by rising to the occasion presented to us."
He clears his throat again and then says "Alternatively if things worked like you suggested we would have the temporary illusion of safety where we are nothing but mere children to the Gods, infantalized and coddled while Daddy and Mommy Gods and Goddesses do everything and we are nothing but victims of circumstance, cogs in a giant machine that works according to the unknowable whims of the Gods and if those whims ever changed then all we could do is try to run or wallow in self pity and victimhood for there was no free will so all we could do is go around blaming external forces for our cicumstances throwing tantrums like the children we would be in this scenario."
He finishes, 'So you got to ask yourself do you place value in Heroics or Victimhood and if its the former then why are you sitting around expecting the Gods to do for you while you could be growing as an individual and doing for yourself and it if it is the latter then what are you doing here because it is the God's responsibility to handle those unpleasant things not yours and any attempt wouuld be doomed to failure since you are not a God and The Deep is of a sort."

Tsak tries to steer Mak back with a little jovial talk and rum.He tries to follow Jennis, but is quickly lost as to what the merman is doing. The half-orc is happy about the crew's decision.
Aytonom tries to explain to Mak why the gods do what they do, and don't do what they don't.
Mak doubles down on his lack of love for the gods, though Tsaks rum brings him out of a rant.
Falco congratulates the crew, and promises something nice, if they are ever free from fighting bad guys.
Jennis doesn't acknowledge Mak's explanation, as he seems lost in thought. You can overhear him talking to himself, "So I'll install the lever over their by the helm's wheel and then cast the spells." When Kiwina asks him about the modifications, he snaps out of his soliloquy, and answers, "As I mentioned before, I will install a lever next to the helm's wheel, and than cast some spells I crafted myself, One spell will enchant the lever, which will than be able to magically ascend and descend the ship. It seemed these minotaurs of late had things a little backwards, but still Mak was intrigued by Aytonom's weapon and wondered just how good he might be with it.
"Oh yes...I missed this. We should throw the crew a party. I'll have one catered as soon as I resupply my coffers. Seems my own symbiotic relationship with Pantheon is draining my resources, but his insight is helpful in understanding how my blade works."

Kiwina chuckles at Aytonom's explanation. Aytonom wouldn't know, but the rest have been with him long enough to realize that Kiwina thinks the gods are simply people with more power than most. What he really respects are a particular group of spirits that none of the others has otherwise heard of.
As for the Rose. Kiwina is happy to explain to Jennis. "Ramsey would know her best. Back during the bloodgrass crisis, we were summoned to the Sargrass and fought the crew of the ship when they were attacking a village. We asked them to surrender, but only Ramsey did, so we helped cure him of the bloodgrass sickness. They had all been changed into bramble-creatures, like him, by a witch. We sailed the sargrass in the Rose looking for the Bridge to Nowhere, so we know she has druidwood in her. When the manfri returned us after the crisis, the Rose and Ramsey came with us. We found that (with some modifications) she sails the water as well as the sargrass, and used her to catch the witch and free some other bramble-people she had created. Since then, we have sailed her around the Taur Isles as our adventures take us from place to place. Ramsey is the only one who knew her before the crises. He should be considered the shipmaster -- he maintains and sees to her when we are off dealing with trouble."

Mak wanted to snap at the minotaur, but realized hie own surly mood was likely the cause. On a peaceful mission they had nearly died to coral golems and Mak wasn't very pleased with that. He'd felt helpless not being able to move about much underwater, but was completely satisfied about the performance of the Ebonblade known as the Ebonstrike. It served the merman right that he'd lost one of them to that outrageous attack on peaceful visitors.
Still though, that feeling of helplessness persisted and the presence of a god in the face of that didn't sit well with him. Yet more beings of immense power to remind one of just how powerless they were.
He ignored Elyas comment about the party, the man had obviously not listened intently enough to the conversation. Will mentioned a game however and Mak thought a game of daggers might be fun. Five daggers at 10 paces.

Max doesn't understand what is being said, so he reflects on Aytonom, and the position Domi put him in. He thinks minotaurs may be a bit backwards, but he is interested in Aytonom's rapier, and wonders at his skill level. He wants to throw a party for the crew, once he has some extra coin, and comments that he always thought Domi would be 4 legged, and wonders if he is only half taur.
Kiwina shares the tale of how the Petals obtained the Rose, and met Ramsey, claiming the brambletaur is the true heart of the ship.
Elyas is interested in the spells Jennis will use, and is satisfied with Kiwina's history of the ship. He thinks a party, after the mission is done, would be great.
Wil is always ready for a party, and wonder if other would be interested in a game of chance.
Rolth tells Aytonom about how he should have been forced to face Gargul, but Ma'ab intervened, and he feels a reckoning may be coming in the future.
Tsak tells Jennis about the coal burning steam engine, and how it's fan can help propel the Rose. At the talk of a party, Tsak starts hiding his rum.
Rolth praises Ramsey and the crew for their bravery, and has nothing to add in concerning the history of the ship.
Aytonom reminds Mak that minotaurs have only 2 legs, and they are still taurs. He is amazed at the Rose's capabilities.
Tsak wants to be with Esmeralda when they start testing the ship.
Mak wants to snap at Aytonom, but realizes the minotaur didn't say anything wrong, he's just in a grumpy mood. He was thrilled with the performance of his rapier, and feels it served Jennis right that he lost one of his golems. Mak challenges everyone to a game of daggers.
Falco is impressed with Kiwina's tale, and has nothing to add after Tsak mentions the steam powered fan. He is tempted to join Mak's game, but is too intrigued with the magics being placed on the Rose.
Jennis listens intently as the Rose is being described, especially when the druid wood and steam engine are mentioned. "A remarkable ship indeed! that fan may even help you underwater. I believe it can be deployed as a sort of propeller, most helpful indeed."
Without saying another word, Jennis gets to work. first he fastens the lever to the deck, using 4 lag bolts, then he begins casting his spells. The whole process takes about a half hour, and when he is finished, the merman is visibly spent. Apparently the ordeal took a lot out of him. "I forgot how much that took out of me, those spells are demanding! Well anyway, it is done. I suggest practicing with the controls a bit, so as to master the underwater travel before need arises." After those words, the merman dives into the water not to be seen again, well at least not in this adventure. The merman doesn't even take the time to say farewell.
Do our intrepid heroes wish to experiment with the controls now, or head directly back to Ardain?

Kiwina agrees that learning what the ship can do now while they are still near Jennis'es home is the best action. He makes an offer for any of the crew who want to wait safely to take the boat while they put the ship through its paces.
After that, it seems like slow and steady would be the best course. "I don't expect this to take more than two or three days." People might balk at the idea, but it will take at least long enough to figure out acceleration, stopping, top speed, maneuverability at various speeds, whether the air becomes stale underwater, and so on. Then to repeat at various angles to the prevailing undersea currents.

Like many on the ship Mak was an experienced sailor and knew how to pilot the vessel, but he didn't let the excitement get to him. He'd let some of the others go first as he observed them so as to learn from their mistakes. So when he had taken his position near the helm he was surprised when the minotaur approached him.
Mak smiled and ran a hand through his sandy blonde hair as he took the minotaurs in his other. "Always offer your off hand when shaking. Your opponent shouldn't get the chance to hurt your sword arm. As for being a duelist, I guess it's a family curse. Growing up learning the rapier was a requirement. Gentlemen fight with a gentleman's weapon." Mak said in a mocking voice. "Never mind my cousin used the family sword our name came from. That thing is a honking beast of a greatsword and not the light weapon of finesse the rapier is."
"Anyway, it's good to meet you and if you need any tips I'll help you anyway I can. As much as an archer can that sidelines as a duelist."

Everyone is in favor of testing the submarine abilities now.
Mak thinks everyone should take a turn at the wheel/lever.
Elyas asks what a propeller is, and agrees with Mak.
Rolth asks if anyone wants to do anything before taking the plunge, and asks how they should do this.
Kiwina wants to take precautions to make sure they are safe, and is of particular concern about what happens when someone or something breaches the air bubble.
Tsak is all in and gets the steam building, and fan turning.
Ayotnom realizes that the party is postponed, so he decides to make nice with Mak, asking a few questions.
Mak accepts Ayotnom's olive branch, and gives a few pointer, claiming more are available if needed.
Falco figures a good practice run would be to bring Jennis home, however, the merman is already swimming to the bottom of the sea.
Elyas never gets his answer. whether Jennis didn't hear him, or he chose to ignore him is open for debate. The merman isn't exactly Mr. Congeniality.
WIth a bunch of trial and error, the Petals and crew figure out how to operate the lever. (I was supposed to give a single DC 20 profession sailor check, with everyone being able to aid whoever rolled, but since Tsak already rolled a 29, you pass) It takes a few hours to get the hang of it, and a day or two to master it. By the end of day two, everyone is sailing underwater as well as if they were above it. Everyone held their breath when they first tested the bubble, to see what happens when it is breached, but nothing happened, and the bubble didn't seem the least bit phased by things entering or leaving it. Even though Jennis didn't answer Elyas's question about a propeller, the Petals were soon able to put two and two together when they tried out the steam powered fan, as the fan seemed to churn the water, propelling them through it. Trial and error showed that the Rose could only stay below the waves for 24 hrs before the air started to become hard to breathe. Luckily, the moment the Rose breached the surface, the air was refreshed.
After the Petals and crew mastered the ship's new abilities, all that was left to do was sail back to meet up with Ardian. The wizard seems pleased, in his crotchety way, and invites the petals in for a bite to eat. unlike Jennis, Ardian doesn't use magic to create food and drink, no, he uses his apprentice, a task Rainard seems only too happy to preform. He is rather fond of the Petals after all. No one seems to notice the change in minotaurs, though that may simply be due to an attempt to be polite. After the meal, which happens to be the evening meal, Ardain invites everyone back into his study, where he walks over to a scroll rack and retrieves what a map of sorts. He unrolls it on the table, in front of the Petals, and says these are the locations of the keys, and the challenge one must preform to obtain it. He opens a scroll that was rolled up with the map and reads it to the Petals:
The Challenge of Might - You must fight to prove your ability, don’t be shocked by what you come upon. A husk is needed.
The Challenge of Speed - Fleet of tail and fleet of fin, are you quick enough to swim? Prove you don’t need them to gain the key. Find the fins.
The Challenge of Durability - Rocks and disruption, you must endure the onslaught, you are not allowed to harm those that challenge you. The gifts given during this challenge are what you seek.
The Challenge of Charm - Their call is dangerous, but you must convince them to give up something beautiful, it is the key.
The Challenge of Discernment - The Guardian will offer a question, you must find a solution. The heart is what you seek.
"I know these clues seem cryptic, but this is all I could obtain after years of study." Ardian says after reading. "I will set the navigation tool, I installed, to whatever challenge you wish to face first, as there doesn't appear to be a set order one needs to obtain them. Once you obtain the key simply sail back here and I will rest the navigation tool to the next challenge of your choosing. That will have to wait until the morning of course. Come back here tomorrow and let me know what challenge you wish to face first. Rainard will see you out, as I need to get myself to sleep."

When the Petals are alone after the meal, Elyas asks: "anyone have a challenge they think we should do first? it likely doesn't matter, we will need to gather all of the keys in order to complete our goal. do we jus start from the top? or the closest location?

Mak considered the challenges and thought he might be most able to complete the Durability challenge. Not because he was tougher than anyone else, but because he felt he was more fleet of foot and could avoid things better. If the challenge also included not striking back then avoidance might be the best tactic.
"Do we think the challenges call for a single challenger, or us as a group? Ardian, do you have any insight in to that? Your answer will determine how we proceed." "Perhaps we should tackle the challenges that we have some apparent advantage in first, given that we might gain knowledge or treasure that will help with the others. I think Mak is right about the object of each challenge. I don't see an obvious order to choose, but agree with Kiwina that the second one, Speed, would be good for us with our various water spells and cloak of the manta ray. We may have an advantage on Charm as well, if I can countersong the effect like I did with the harpies that time. Might seems doable as well, but we should probably take the hint and have spells to protect us against electricity--maybe there are giant electric eels? Durability, well, we have some tough folks, but non-lethal encounters may not be our forte. I did learn how to use my net, so that may help. Spells would be better, I suppose. Perhaps we save Discernment for last, as we may learn clues to the solution in the other challenges. All that said, I suggest we start with Speed, and prepare spells and equipment accordingly. What do you say?"

Elyas enjoys the meal, and thanks Ardian for the clues, promising to get back to him in the morning with the challenge they wish to try. He asks his friends where they want to start.
Mak is leaning towards starting with durability challenge, because he is good at getting out of the way. He asks Ardain if the challenges must be done individually, or as a group. Mak thinks he as an idea as to what the objective of each challenge is.
9 out of 10 of Wil's voices approve of the challenges, and he is excited to go. He suggests going top down, and has to put the one voice who is opposed to the challenges in it's place.
Kiwina is leaning towards the second and third challenges, but since they all have to be completed, he doesn't really care where they start.

With all the preparations one can make made, the Rose sets off to face the Challenge of Speed. Ardian's navigational device leads the Rose and her occupants in a southwesterly direction. Around mid-day on the second day the hand on the device changes direction and you know you have reached your destination. Looking around, you see nothing but ocean in every direction, and so you realize that the challenge must be underwater. You descend the ship in a spiral pattern, so as to stay on target, and soon you find yourself at the bottom of the sea again, but this time in a air bubble, and on board the Rose! On the ocean floor, you discover a trench, that appears to lead into a tunnel, and the arrow on Ardian's device is pointing directly at it. The trench and tunnel appear large enough to accommodate the Rose, even with her air bubble deployed.

As soon as they get into the trench Mak comes down from the crows nest since his arrows range is less than 20' and he'd be reduced to using his sword anyway.

Mak wasn't happy with his underwater speed, but likes the ability to fight unencumbered by the water, which he gained via Freedom of Movement. He comes down fro the crows nest.
Elyas asks if they should send in a scout, or just take the Rose in.
Wil keeps his eyes peeled.
Mak wants to take the Rose in.
Kiwina would like to make some experience with Garmin, but figures that can wait until latter.
Rolth also is in favor of entering the trench/tunnel with the Rose, though he keeps his eyes peeled for trouble.
Tsak is willing to scout ahead, but requires a means to breath water. He wants to take the Rose in, but is worried about taking her back out.
Ayotnom casts mage armor on himself, and than asks for some spells.
Falco wants to "take her in", though he casts water breathing on everyone just in case.
Kiwina casts light on the bow of the ship, and wonders how they are going to see in the tunnel.
It is decided to take the Rose into the trench, and then into the tunnel. What isn't decided yet is whether or not a scout will be sent in first. Tsak volunteered, but it hasn't been determined if he is going in, and/or if he is going solo.

Rolth is ardently opposed to someone going solo down the tunnel. He's Ok with a summoned creature scouting for them, but if they are going to go, they need to go in force.
Wil offers to summon an archon to use as a scout.
Tsak is touched that Rolth doesn't want him risking his life without his friends there for support. He likes the archon idea, and asks if Wil knows how to communicate with an archon.
Mak wonders if they need the speed of the Rose, which is far faster than most lone swimmers. He worries that sending a scout ahead would slow them down, but than again maybe caution is good.
Kiwina suggests taking things slow through the tunnel, as they follow the archon. The idea of speeding through the tunnel doesn't set right with him.
Ayotnom suggests Wil summon a lantern archon, and he will cast message on it, Wol and himself.

Elyas lets everyone know that communication with the lantern archon shouldn't be a problem, but it will need a water breathing spell, if it is going to leave the air bubble.
Mak confirms Elyas's knowledge.
Wil asks the lantern archon if it will be their scout, and is about to cast water breathing on it, but realizes he only prepared the spell once today, and that he already cast it on himself. He asks if someone else could cast the spell.
Kiwina wonders how long the archon will stick around as he guides the rose into the tunnel. he can't help with the water breathing spell.
Rolth suggests the archon use it's teleportation ability to jump ahead, hold it's breath, and than jump back. repeating that method over and over again.
Tsak leaves the archon to others and helps Kiwina guide the Rose into the tunnel.
Ayotnom is also without the means to cast water breathing, but he does cast message, hooking Wil the archon, himself, and 3 others with limited telepathy.
Falco gives everyone but Wil water breathing, including the archon.
Water breathing is handed out to everyone, and Wil shares the plan with the lantern archon, who is more than happy to help, after Falco hooks it up with water breathing. As Kiwina and Tsak guide the Rose into the tunnel, by the light of the light spell, which was cast on the ship's bow, as well as the light coming from the lantern archon, that the tunnel seems to remain the same size diameter for as far as the eye can see, which granted isn't all that far considering you are in a pitch black tunnel at the bottom of the ocean. a light spell normally offers 20 ft of illumination, 40 ft with low light vision, but with the added illumination of the archon, lets say that normal vision is 40 ft, and low light vision is 80 ft essentially doubling you light capacity. Of course those with darkvision can see just fine for the entire range of the ability.
The lantern archon isn't willing to teleport blindly, but is willing to swim ahead, however before it has a chance to leave the bubble, you hear a rumble behind the Rose. Turning to look, you witness a rock wall sliding down from the ceiling, which completely blocks the rear exit, leaving only one direction to go, forward. Elyas spots the fish swarm, casts haste, and than starts helping crank the fan.
Will spots the fish swarm, and considers casting spiritual weapon. He wishes there was a spell that would make the ship faster.
Kiwina suggests having the Archon move ahead, and the Rose will follow at high speed.
Rolth wonders if the fish can travel in their air bubble and activates his amulet of mighty fists. He wonders if a water elemental might be helpful, and asks if anyone can summon one.
Tsak suggests speed and fighting only if needed. He heads down to help Elyas with the crank.
Ayotnom relays Kiwina's message, and than casts Heroism on Kiwina.
Falco figures speed is what they need, and reminds everyone that the fish need to stay in the water to breathe.
Everyone notices the swarm, and watch as the strange fish start trying to nip at the hull of the Rose. Luckily the fast actions of Kiwina as well as Elyas and Tsak keeps the Rose just out of range of the destructive teeth. The Archon flys to the bow and than stops. "The ship is traveling faster than I can swim. I can't out travel her without teleporting blindly, which is something I won't due. I'm sorry that I can't be of better use to you, but I can help illuminate the ship, for the duration of the spell." (Lantern archons fly at 60 ft per round. Tnat would be cut in half underwater, so it's swim speed would only be 30 ft per round.)
You hear Ramsey bark an order, "To the oars and crank men!" and you realize he is intent to out run the swarm, and hopefully avoid any damage to the Rose and/or it occupants.
There are two ways to make the Rose faster. Navigaton and Rowing/fan cranking. Only one person can navigate, but anyone can row or crank the fan. In order to stay ahead of the fish at least 4 successful major checks per round must be made. I will allow a +2 to skill checks because of the haste spell. There are also minor checks that can be made to help out. However in order to make a repair check, damage must be done to the Rose first.

Ayotnom is not a sailor and although he is a minotaur he is still a finesse fighter so helping sail the ship is out for him. He is perceptive but with Kiwina at the helm the Taur doesn't think playing lookout is necessary.
Ayotnom does have hand of the apprentice and so will move to the stern of the ship and use the granted ability of his arcane school specialization of being a universalist wizard to have his rapier strike 30 feet out and then instantly return to his hand.

Mak thinks a web spell may be helpful. He fires at the swarm to help slow it down.
Elyas claims he isn't sure he can cast web at these speeds, and feels he would be better off spinning the crank, which he does successfully.
Wil and his Archon attempt to slow the swarm, but both sadly miss their target. He wonders reminds them that the fan is steam powered.
Kiwina, being the most experienced navigator takes the wheel. and keeps the Rose a the fastest course.
Tsak tries to help at the cranks, but struggles.
Rolth sings a tune, and the struggling Tsak finds the inspiration to succeed. He starts heading towards the helm's wheel, but sees that Kiwina already has that under control, so he grabs a set of oars and starts pulling.
Ayotnom uses his hand of the apprentice ability to help slow the swarm.
Falco grabs some oars and begins rowing for all he's worth.
Just a reminder, only one person can navigate, but everyone can row or crank. Kiwina was already at the wheel, since he is the one who guided the Rose into the tunnel, so I changed Rolth's check to rowing. If you wish to change positions, please feel free to do so.
I'm not sure I clarified how the slow the swarm works. It takes 3 successful hits, in a single round, to make the swarm back off. In other words, it negates one failed major check, which would result in the ship taking damage. Also, I forgot to mention in yesterday's post that a failed major check allows the ship to take damage, unless the damage is negated by slowing the swarm. Even if all failed major checks are negated, unless there are at least 4 successful checks the Rose takes damage. Another thing I forgot to mention, Ramsey and the crew are also helping. they offer 6 aid another rolls, rolled by me, that you can apply to your rolls, if they succeed.
I hope this helps clarify things, any questions, please shoot me an email.
Ramsey yells out an answer to Wil's question, "Of course she's steam powered, but the cranks assist the steam engine, allowing it to achieve higher speeds." The petals are succesful in keeping the Rose on the fastest course, as well as boosting her speed enough to keep the swarm away from the hull of the ship. Mak, Wil, and Ayotnom do their best to hold the swarm at bay, and the combined effort of everyone keeps the Rose from receiving any damage this round. The crew are doing their best to assist where ever possible, and provide 4 aid others that can be used this round.

Kiwina counts. . . Mak, Wil, Ayotnom, and an archon slowing the swarm. Elyas, Tsak, Rolth, and Falco speeding the ship. Himself steering. Sailors pitching in. He's not going to complain about that setup. If someone else does, the group will figure things out.

Wil thanks Ramsey for his explanation, than casts a second spiritual weapon. Him and his archon do their best to hold back the swarm.
Mak yells to "crank faster", as he fires into the swarm.
Kiwina looks about and sees than everything seems to be going swimmingly, but then asks Falco if he wants to take the wheel.
Rolth cranks for all he's worth but his grip starts to slip off the crank, (all this excitement does cause one to sweat a bit) Luckily Ramsey notices his struggle, and rushes over and through a heroic effort the two get things running smoothly.
Ayotnom lets fly with his hand of the apprentice again, again doing his part to keep the swarm off their tail.
Tsak seems to be getting the hang of this new form of pressure as he cranks his handle.
Elyas makes a heroic effort to keep the crank going.
Falco swaps spaces with Kiwina.
