DM BatMark -- Tempers Flare Friday May 27th, 2022 11:42:52 PM Drack thinks it is time to report back, but also attempts to detect evil as Angus departs. Highlight to display spoiler: {You sense the faintest whiff of evil, but Angus turns a corner before you have concentrated long enough to be sure it is coming from him. Once he is gone, however, you no longer detect even that faint aura of evil in the immediate vicinity.} Torrynashkabbeth is pleased to have gotten answers from Angus to her two questions, and agrees it is time to report back. Manolo tries to learn more about local history and Angus, but has pretty much learned what is possible given the lack of a library. Mole nods at Grog’s answers and orders a pair of ales. Ash enjoys another ale with Mole. Loryn warns Heorstan of some potential consequences of messing with a magic book, and pitches an easygoing version of the night watch idea. Mortimer is impressed with some of the dark outcomes described by Loryn, and nods along with the watch ideas.
You are able to complete your inquiries and head back toward the keep through the town square. As you each move in that direction, something seems a little off, kind of like the beginnings of the mob scene when some villagers turned on Agatha.

She'd seen this sort of behaviour before. Were the gremlins back and up to more mischief? Whilst it wasn't unusual for someone to become angry or for another to feel aggrieved, to hear so many discontented voices at once was far from normal. Or maybe it was normal. Torryn had been fortunate enough to grow up outside of town. Maybe this was more common than she liked to think. yet perhaps there was evil afoot. Still endeavouring to seem casual, Torryn scanned the vicinity hoping to root out the cause of all this malcontent.

On the way from leaving Angus, Drack will tell Torry that he went to detect evil on Angus, and picked up a faint trace of it before Angus turned the Corner(For the Paladin, one round will tell you everything that three rounds does with the spell, and it only works on the selected target, unless the DM post needs adjustment, Drack had to sence evil from Angus.) Drack will inform the rest of the group of it as well.
Drack wasn't able to pick up more than the fact that they were bickering and arguing again(perception 14)
He moves to the edge of the group of villagers, and tries using diplomacy to calm everybody down.(diplomacy 12. stupid die roller)
(DM note: You are correct, I had forgotten about the special paladin version of detect evil. You know that Angus has a faint evil aura, and are able to inform the party of that fact.)
As they walk back, whatever fluids required, in Mortimer's brain, that power his keen observational skills were obviously rerouted elsewhere. Today, he's more into showing off his fancy, new chain shirt. If he can angle himself just right to reflect his chain shirt's glare into peoples eyes, he will. Maybe that will shut them up and look at him. His new found wealth is definitely bringing out his devil's haircut.

Torryn nudged Drack and then tugged on his arm. She nodded towards two strangers standing at a vegetable stall: both were well dressed. Neither seemed angry or upset. Indeed judging by the looks on their faces, they appeared to find the whole incident amusing. Spear in hand Torryn made a beeline towards them.
She'd been scanning the area for evil. Now she refined her focus. It was the two strangers that she targeted. She trusted Drack to follow: to not only follow, but use his own - likely superior skills to confirm her suspicions - that they were the cause of all the dissent and squabbling. Otherwise, she was probably going to get herself into trouble. Again. Lots of trouble.

Loryn hears the discontent and heads to where the voices of complaining children are coming from, trying to intercede.
Your efforts to discern evil and intercede in events are brought up short by the appearance of an attractive,well-formed human four feet in height, with black wings that shine with an iridescence in the light of its flaming bow. It shimmers into existence in the center of the square, then swoops up 20 feet into the air, its musical voice speaking loud enough for everyone to hear: [b]“Do not be afraid. The worst is over. Why, I know Agatha is stirring up woodland creatures against the town, that Angus and his friends have strangers destroying their way of life, that there is a warpack of ogres in the Red Hills coming this way…”
It seems like everyone hears what they want to hear, and after a pause, fists start flying! Villagers are brawling all around the square, fists flying and throwing each other to the ground for further pummeling. Two villagers near the squabbling children turn on Loryn, and take a swing at him, chastising him for the impertinence of interfering with their child rearing. The creature could only be Fey. Torryn immediately decided that it was Dark Fey. Well, she did have black wings. Wasn’t that a total give-away? In truth her appearance had little to do with Torryn’s conclusion. Her words were telling. ”The truth? Who summoned you? Tell me that.” She challenged. However, Torryn’s voice was not the strongest and amidst all the shouting, bawling, crying and fighting she really didn’t expect to be heard. If only she could detect lies as readily as the presence of evil. That thought made her immediately shift focus from the well dressed men to the Dark Fey - as she was determined to name it. Did that beautiful creature emanate evil? Not that there was much she could do about it if she did. Twenty feet aloft was more than she could throw her spear.
She sighed a deep breath of frustration before embracing Agrathas’s teachings and calming herself amid the storm that raged around her. She saw a chicken flapping frantically as it fluttered over an upturned stall hurling chicken imprecations to al and sundry. Dogs barked and charged through the crowd only to add to the chaos. Torryn remained calm. She held her spear in both hands, just behind the head. The butt was planted into the ground just in front of her feet. She sought to exude calm. Yet if anyone were to try to accost her, she would kick the butt end up and whip it into a most tender part of any would-be attacker’s anatomy.

Torryn needed no encouragement. She ran quickly towards the keep. Unburdened by armour or equipment, her progress was swift. As she got close to the door she opened her senses and sought to determine if any evil lurked in the vicinity.
Mortimer Margrave (Stephen F.): ac:17/13/14. hp:21/21. Friday June 3rd, 2022 9:20:49 PM
Mortimer prepares to send another black ray, but before he can finish the words, the fiend is struck by another arrow and two darts of light. A final one-two punch that sends the creature spiraling down to the ground. It was a beautiful thing to watch, ending in a very satisfying 'splat'.
"Awww ... whatta pity to be you, you gobby twit!"
Before turning back to the Keep, he points a threatening finger at the villager that threw a punch at him. "I will let you have that ONE," implying that if they tried to strike him again, he wont be so forgiving. He then follows after Loryn on his way to the Keep.
