DM Mark - "Can anyone remove this slimy condition?" Monday August 29th, 2022 1:40:42 AM Mak notices the gemstones in the archway. He asks that someone to check on them while he checks Ardien's body. He finds two rings and a necklace. Falco channels energy to heal everyone for 26 points of damage. Then he moves to Kiwina and casts Lesser Restoration hoping to restore some of his lost CON, however this has no effect on the centaur Kiwina thanks Falco for his help but notices his skin condition has not changed. He keeps a sharp eye out for trouble. Elyas looks at his skin condition to try to puzzle out what's going on. He's not sure but he knows there's nothing natural about this, something seems to have been permanently changed. Wil moves to Arden's body and commends his soul into gargles care. Rolth uses his tattoo to cast lesser restoration on alias but again it seems to have no effect on the wizard's condition. He suggests that the party returned to Wedding City to report back to the authorities there. Ayotnom casts Detect magic on the rings and necklace as well as the shiny emeralds in the remains of the gate. He tells the others these are a Ring of Freedom of Movement, A Ring of Protection +4, and a Necklace of Adaptation. The gems and the remains of the arch have some residual magic on them but there are no longer any permanent enchantments. Tsak agrees with Roth about returning to Wedding City to talk to the officials there and to seek out this apprentice. He worries a bit about his condition.
The party is no longer pressed for time. Removing the gems would ordinarily take some strength and skill checks but since you have the time, with careful work you're able to remove eight rather large emeralds that were incorporated into the stone of the gate. You also find the remaining three keys/items that were used to open the gate.

Technically speaking, none of you know that the water breathing effect is on you since you have spells and some of your items that replicate this effect.
The sea seems strangely quiet and calm after your recent battle. Small fishes return. As the water ebbs and flows, plant growth and fish sway gently in the water.

Mak returned with Ardian's rings and necklace. "You know. We should probably search Ardian's place to make certain he didn't leave any instructions on how to do this again. That is if this affliction doesn't prevent us from doing so. We should make for the surface as our water breathing magic will soon expire and the rise to the surface will be a long one as we shouldn't rise any faster than our bubbles or suffer from water sickness. (Waterbreathing might negate that, but Mak doen't know anything about how the spell works.)

Elyas has absolutely no idea what is causing the skin condition. he has limited knowledge of medicine, and is drawing a total blank (natural 1 for a 3 on heal)
"I know this is not a natural effect. but i do not have knowledge of what may be causing this. However, if it is an outside affliction cast upon us perhaps some of my spells can help us. I will attempt to do what i can while we are here, and perhaps Falco will have more options for us tomorrow. Can't hurt to try now right?"
Elyas will try his spells on himself first unless someone is eager to volunteer.
First he will try a dispel magic on himself against the skin condition. it does nothing, but there is not enough info to know if it was because of a bad spell (hey look another natural 1) or because it is the wrong thing to attempt...
second, during the time where others are chipping away at the stones and examining the magical items, Elyas uses 10 minutes to cast a break enchantment on himself. and... nothing happens. (natural 4 this time! 4 times as good...)
"OK, well I will prepare more of those spells tomorrow and we can try again... I am having trouble focusing down here for some reason..."

Also if this is some sort of disease it would seem that those afflicted need to stay in an aquatic environment for now. When they get there he'll happily go aboard and explain to the sailors that they won the day but some of the party look a bit... different. He and Ramsay take the boat below the waves so the others can get on board more comfortabley, out of direct sunlight.
DM Mark - What Now? Tuesday August 30th, 2022 1:31:33 AM Mak suggests returning to Ardian’s tower to search the place. He's also worried that the Petals water breathing spell will soon expire. He also thinks it might be wise to approach the Rose with caution since several people look a bit different. Falco thinks the skin affliction may be some sort of disease, but he is sure that those afflicted will not do well on land. Elyas Elias tries to remove the condition with the Dipel Magic but this does not work. Then he tries casting Break Enchantment, which does work and even restores his CON. Wil will heal himself and suggest heading back to the ship. He wonders if it might be best to return with the ship underwater. Rolth agrees this affliction must be some sort of disease, and he does not think it will simply go away. He also votes for a quick return to the ship. Kiwina is ready to return to the Rose. Ayotnom believes the skin affliction is some sort of permanent affliction, and that Cure Disease or Break Enchantment may help. He also thinks that those afflicted may need to stay in the water. Tsak swims up to the Rose and ready the crew for the changed pedals. He suggests sailing underwater will make it easier for those afflicted.
The Petals finish up their searching and casting spells. They're still not sure what's causing this exactly but they think they may have some answers so they return to the ship to see what they can do.
Upon their return they have Rolth, Kiwina, and Mak lag behind with their slimy, translucent skin and flesh. This was wise because they soon notice the crew is apprehensive about Rolth, Kiwina, and Mak, given that sailors are often just superstitious to begin with. Some are worried they might also catch this disease.
However something more alarming happens when you reach the surface those who were affected with water breathing by the mucus cloud (all but Elyas and Ayotnom?) find that they cannot breathe air, and they're not sure if this affliction is permanent or temporary. Also those afflicted with the skin disease find that time spent out of water quickly becomes very painful, and they must either be submerged or have their skin somehow kept wet.
Ramsey tries to take the ship below the waves but it no longer seems to work - the ship is no longer able to sail beneath water.
You are a couple days out from Wedding City. Three of the petals must stay wet, and I think most of the rest are unable to breathe air at present. What do you do?

That's almost the last of his air, with a whoop Tsak once again swan dives off the side of the boat into the green water below. He breathes in thru the water and comes to the surface.
I'll just stay here until we figure it out or it wears off. A rope would be nice, I'd prefer it if you stayed in the one spot rather than sailing off! Does anyone have a spear, I may be able to catch dinner? he yells.
DM Mark - Where Now? d100=90 ; d100=4 ; d100=83 ; Wednesday August 31st, 2022 1:59:32 AM Rolth suggests that some of the Petals could be towed behind the ship through the water as it goes. Mak is not having this. He suggests remaining at anchor here until their problems can be solved either through magic or by hoping some effects will wear off. Elyas agrees that perhaps dragging people through the water is not the best approach he suggests waiting as well. Wil climbs aboard and finds he cannot breathe so he gets a bucket of water and periodically plunges head in for a breath. This may work for a few minutes, but soon becomes exhausting. Falco prefers his opponents to be more straightforward than this Veiled Master proved to be. He also suggests the party wait where they are until spells can be brought to bear to solve these issues. Kiwina suggests finding a shallow spot where perhaps the pedals could rest, but alas they're in fairly deep water and it would take a day or two of sailing to get to a shallow area. Ayotnom suggest taking the ship under water. Tsak reminds the minotaur that the ship seems to have lost its ability to sell beneath the waves. He's fine staying in the water hoping the effect will wear off soon.
The weather has turned a bit stormy and while it causes the boat to rock staying where it is, the bad weather would make being dragged back far worse. The pedals decide to wait this out.
Their decision is rewarded as the following day Elias is able to prepare some Break Enchantment spells and Falco and Wil can cast Remove Disease and Remove Curse spells that seem to work. You find it takes a few days for everyone's water breathing to wear off, so everyone can climb back aboard. Soon, everyone is right as rain. Which is fitting, because it’s raining. Fortunately Ramsey had an empty hold and a full purse, so you find the Rose is well provisioned with food and water for a few weeks. And the food is pretty good too. Good ol’ Ramsey.
Soon the ship is underway and in a couple days it returns under relatively smooth sailing to anchor outside of Wedding City. A longboat approaches the ship asking if they wish to come ashore.
What do you do and where do you go first? Do you seek out the authorities, do you seek out Ardian’s tower, do you look for something else?
Everyone may level up to 11th level. The last encounter with the Veiled Master was rather difficult, and everyone contributed. In addition to the one hero point for leveling up, everyone gets two additional hero points!

Once Mak could safely board the Rose he gave Wil, Elyas, and Falco a sodden hug for the magical aid. Afterwards he spent his time tending to Elmer and drying his clothing and equipment out. He checked with Falco about the fresh water supply before soaking his gear in fresh water to remove the salt, then hung it up to dry in the cargo hold out of the rain. In the meantime he had extra clothes and his chain shirt.
He'd forgotten to remove his rations from his haversack, so those were ruined, otherwise he was satisfied about everything. He also thought to recover his bow since he'd left it aboard with his arrows. Otherwise Mak took time to train with Ayotnom with his rapier. (Mak is Duelist 3 Fighter 8 now)
Once on land, Mak was going to buy extra clothing since he'd likely be going back into those lands where human clothing had to be tailored. He didn't care about tailored clothing as it reminded him of the privilege his family had in Aisildur at the expense of others. He still had a heartseeded relative or two he'd like to kill.

Tsak makes his way out of the water once his ability to breathe in it wears off. It was a bit of fun to be a fish for a day, but he's happy to be back on dry deck. Esmerelda has watched him swimming around but didn't make her way into the water to join him. He cooks up a couple of the small fish he caught and shares them with her at the evening meal.
I think we should definitely talk to Rainard. Not sure about ransacking the tower as I guess it belongs to the apprentice now.

Falco and Elyas agree with returning to Ardian’s tower. Rolth,Kiwina and Ayotnom will go to Ardian’s tower, but intend to meet with some of the local authorities afterwards. Wil wants to seek out some training and potions. Tsak would like to talk to Rainard, Ardian’s assistant. He’s not sure the Petals should ransack the place though.
(For those with negative levels you will need to use a restoration spell to get rid of them.)
You are taken ashore in the longboat and you give the man a few silver. The docks and warehouses are busy, with folk moving here and there. You are greeted with some nods and the usual smells - fish and seaweed, wet wood and stone, wood smoke and the smell of cooking food. You see a few couples with their wedding bonds and veils.
You're asked if you need a guide which you decline, and you make your way up to Arden's Tower. Once there you knock on the door, and are met by Rainard. The crow-like tengu wizard blinks as he looks at you, and a look crosses his face. Was that concern? Hard to tell with the large beak and feathered face of a tengu. ”Where is Ardien. What's happened? Oh please come in, come in, how can I help you? Why are you back without Ardien? Is he in trouble? Did he send you back here?” He takes a step back, apprehension in his voice.

Were you apprentice in his objective of bringing back the deep and becoming eternally youthful or just in learning the arcane arts? Be honest with us and it will go better for you. Considering the value Wedding City officials place on knowledge and the fact the local eccentric arcanist died in combat serving the Deep I would argue his collection of knowledge is claimable as spoils of war considering The Deep wanted to enslave everyone and I think we prevented that from happening so I think we have a claim on this arsenal of knowledge. DM Mark - Where's Rainard? d20=5 ; Friday September 2nd, 2022 3:13:00 AM
The crow-like Rainard has invited the Petals into Ardian’s tower. Mak demands that Rainard tell him what he knows of the Deep, threatening him with violence as he does so. Falco watches. Wil watches, thinking he must seek out training and equipment after this. Kiwina tells Rainard that Ardian is dead, also asking what he knows of the Deep. Rolth tries to strike a friendlier tone, asking "Why would you expect the Wedding City officials to be coming? What do you think they would want to do here?" Ayotnom likewise wants to know what Rainard knew about the Deep, possibly giving the man an out if he was not involved. Tsak asks if Rainard has a Restoration spell handy, and if he and Ardian were close. Elyas
(As a reminder, this Rainard is someone the Petals rescued from the sea. He was very grateful and appreciative of the Petals at that time.)
Mak stands more than a foot above Rainard, and the little wizard is certainly intimidated.
Fear in his eyes, he says, ”Ardian was seeking some sort of power or thing - that's about all I know. He was studying spells and sigils and rituals related to this thing, and was pretty consumed by this study. He was always pretty secretive. Sometimes I’d hear him talking to himself. All I really know about the Deep is what I heard you folks tell Ardian, but I guess maybe that was the creature he was seeking. I remember him telling you he wanted to help seal it in so I guess that's where he wanted to go. He seemed pleased that you were helping him, I know that."
Then he stammers in a small voice, ”Did, did you kill Ardian? Um, what did he do? I never really liked him anyway, but it was a job and shelter.”
He continues, ”The authorities? Oh, I just wanted to see if they had been notified about Ardian’s death. You see, if they knew he already died they would come and take control of this place and lock it down. They’re kinda jerks about stuff around here. He did have some distant family I think, but he didn’t like them. I suppose they might try to get Ardian’s things to them, but really all the research and secrets here - they’ll probably just pack it all up and cart it away. They never really approved of what he did, but wouldn’t interfere - it’s not their way. But now that he’s gone…who cares about all this now?”
“Do you need to worry about the authorities right now? Not really and not for a while. They don’t come poking around folks’ homes much - it’s not their way. They’re more live and let live. At least until somebody dies anyway. Then they swoop in and take charge. Ayotnom said this stuff is all yours, but good like convincing the authorities of that.
“Things of value? There’s some, I suppose, but he was careful not to keep much money here. Always afraid someone might rob him and didn’t trust the locals to back him up. He also liked to play poor when a relative or acquaintance showed up looking for money. Didn’t really have any friends.
“I suppose you can just take what you want. I mean I can't really stop you, and I don’t care about this stuff. Or about this old musty place. I best pack my things before those authorities take over though. I’m ready to leave Fargunia - they’re weird. In fact, we should all clear outta here before folks in charge find out Ardian’s gone for good.”
The high Sense Motive checks will tell you that the intimidation worked. Rainard is fearful of you, he is being compliant under duress, he does not really like you right now, he is anxious to leave but not in a hurry when he heard the authorities have not yet been notified. Intimidation is useful, but it has a cost.
There are certainly a lot of books, written materials and scrolls and such here. You could spend weeks here and still not go through everything. Does it have value? Probably to the right person. Is it yours to take? I guess that depends on whom you ask.

When Falco mentioned the Zone of Truth spell Mak had no worries, after all what had he to hide? It was Rainard that was hiding something, right? So when Rainard started jabbering as he did the fear in the bird man's eyes affected Mak.
Mak turned away from Rainard, ashamed by his behavior and tried to explain himself. "You see, Ardian betrayed us. He tricked us to into releasing the Deep from it's prison but it deceived him as well. As soon as the Deep was free it turned on Ardian and slew him. Some might call it a just reward, but it's all senseless killing. and then Falco's spell kicked in. "You see some in my family were deceived by Ga'al and convinced being heartseeded would give them the power they desired. What really happened was that the plant creature took over their minds and dominated them much as this Deep sought to dominate others. I tried to stop them but I couldn't, I was too small, too young, to keep them from doing what they thought was best for all. The Deep, like Ga'al, presented itself as a god and I couldn't see that happen again. Had I known that was Ardian's plan I would have tried to stop him, but none of us knew. Rainard, I'm sorry for what I did and I'm certain that if you want to set up someplace else, the Rose and it's crew can take you there. We can give you some money to get started someplace else...No Wil. Once it's known Ardian is dead or missing the government will come in and collect his secrets. We should scour this place for any notes he may have made and burn them. I also think Rainard should get Ardian's personal effects stored here unless they might endanger him. We shouldn't tarry though, we didn't tell the crew the information was secret and one of them might have talked."

Kiwina helps sort out events with Rainard. Unlike Mak, he isn't as worried about the crew giving information away -- they've been here several times before and should be aware of the local peculiarities enough not to invite trouble. At least not until they're drunk.
As for Wil's suggestion, "I don't want a place in Fargunia, Wil. I think we do well with the Rose. But if you want a more permanent location, I'd bet we could find something on Bridge Island."
Kiwina is also not going to get into hassles over Ardian's estate. He doesn't feel that Ardian owed the Petals anything he didn't deliver, nor that he should compensate them for damages, so it passes to his apprentice or his family as far as Kiwina is concerned.
"Rainard, what are the authorities likely to do if we tell them that Ardian died during our fight with the Deep?"

we should spend some time looking through it before we report his death. Most people didn't listen to us about the Deep before, and if this all goes into a locked archive we could lose a lot of valuable information.

Wil suggests setting up shop in Ardian's place.
Falco tries to make nice with Rainard, asking him where he will go next.
Mak tries to explain why he acted in such a hostile manner, even going so far as sharing his background with Rainard.
Kiwina tells Wil that Wedding Island wouldn't be a good fit but if he would like a more permanent place to call home Bridge Island would be a good place. He desires no claim to Ardian's belongings, and asks Rainard what he thinks the authorities will do/think when they are informed of Ardian's fate.
Elyas doesn't want anything here, but he would like to peruse Ardian's research, and asks Rainard if he will help.
Rolth also asks if Rainard will assist.
Wil further explains himself regarding his desire for Ardian's estate.
Ayotnom suggests that Ardian's estate may be the spoils of war. He wonders if perhaps they may find the key to turning the Rose back into a submersible. Of course it wasn't Ardian who had the skills to do that, so the chances are unlikely. The minotaur thinks suggests that if they can't take the time to sort out all this research, perhaps they could hire some people.
Rolth suggests taking a look around, and let that decide their next step. He cast detect magic and has a look around.
Tsak is bummed that Rainard can't hook him up with a restoration spell, but since that it is a divine spell and not an arcane spell, coupled with the fact that Rainard was only an apprentice, it's no surprise. He looks at some pretty pictures and lets the thinkers do the thinking.
Wil just wants a library to obtain information at. As an after thought, he wonders what information would be available he, and suggests an agreement of sorts to have access to the library if the need arises.
Ayotnom shares he is a duelist know, and would like to spar with Mak.
Kiwina is able to help looking over the research.
*******************************************
Rainard isn't won over very easily. After all, when someone threatens you, how likely are you to offer more than is required. He seems less fearful now, but he definitely has his walls up, and he speaks out with uncharacteristic anger and disdain in his voice.
"I will decline to assist you, thank you. I have done nothing wrong, and you treat me as though I am some dastardly villain. I will gather my things and leave, as to where, I'm not sure yet, but the further from this weird island the happier I will be. I can find my own way, as I wish nothing more from you. Of course you have the power to detain me, but you will gain no benefit from doing so!"
With that Rainard turns and huffs out of the room. If anyone tries to stop him, he will slump into the nearest chair and glare silently at you. Assuming no one tried to stop him, he will return a few moments later with a handy haversack n his back and he will say with the same venom in his voice as before, "Do with this place what you like, you could burn it to the ground for all I care!" he than turns and leaves, obviously heading towards the docks, most likely to find a ship that will take him from Wedding Island.
As Rolth scans the place , his detect magic spell reveals a few weak auras. upon further inspection they turn out to be a few depleted wands, that still carry a lingering aura, but have no value. It seems that Ardain was a bit of a pack rat and he was holding on to them for some crazy reason. their doesn't seem to be any other auras in the library.

Kiwina is not at all certain that Rainard will tell anyone -- Ardian was treated with a bit of suspicion here and Rainard does not seem to have found the culture very accommodating. Elyas offers to teleport everyone to the Rose, as he doesn't know if walking through town would be wise. He's not sure they will have time to find anything of value in Ardian's research.

There is no determinable rhyme or reason to the placement of written material in the room. It's as if he didn't care, and simply put newly obtained material where ever he could find an open place. Looking through some of the material itself, you discover that the vast majority is written in languages you find unfamiliar, and those you can decipher, offer little to explain their significance. You find little tidbits of script cut from its original source, whatever that may have been, and then pasted into tomes similar, in appearance to scrap books, along with the various seemingly meaningless scrolls and books. Obviously Ardain was able to glean something from these texts, but it would take much study to determine what, assuming you could at all.
Ardain's spell book is nowhere to be found in this room, meaning it was either destroyed with Ardain, is somewhere else in the house, or most likely, it is Rainard's Handy Haversack, and gone along with him.
So far there has been no sign of the authorities showing up. What would our intrepid heroes wish to do next.

So he helps the others look to the best of his ability to find the sorts of things they want to look for. Falco joins Mak and Tsak on watch, where he tries to put Mak at ease.
Elyas is all for just leaving this place, and doubles down on his offer to teleport them back to the Rose. He is a bit bummed that no spell book was found.
Wil agrees with Elyas and wants to return to the Rose. he could use a drink, and wonders if Ramsey has anything special set aside.
Mak wants to head to the catacombs and than head to the Rose.
Wil wanted a personal library for th Petals, but is beginning to realize this isn't the one for them.
Rolth is fine skipping the authorities and figures a quick stop at the catacombs and than leaving this place may be best. He searches the rest of the house.
Kiwina realizes that nothing of value is to be gleaned here, and though it would be nice if they could make the Rose submersible again, He remembers that it wasn't Ardian who did the original magic. He pitches in on the search of the place.
Tsak continues with his watch and chatting with his friends.
Ayotnom helps search the rest of the house.

As our intrepid heroes search the rest of the house, they don't find anything of value. Rolth's detect magic again finds some weak auras, which turn out to be another bundle of spent wands, this time wrapped in some parchment papers, which also have lingering auras, and were probably scrolls. It seems anything of value, assuming there was anything to begin with, walked off with Rainard.
Tsak, Falco and Mak see a small group of people heading their way. Upon closer inspection, you determine that they are the city guard. They don't seem to be in too much of a rush, and at their current pace they should arrive at your location in 3 or 4 minutes.

Mak nodded at Kiwina. "I'll get one ready." Mak said as he went below decks to the captains quarters and set about writing the letter to the Fargunian authorities. In the letter he explained their task in detail and how Ardian seemed to have allied himself with the evil entity who then turned upon the old man at the end. He made certain to explain that Ardian's apprentice seemed to have no involvement in the scheme, though he might have Ardian's research on the creature that called itself the Deep. Lastly he apologized for not making the report in person, saying within the missive that the rulers of the Taur isles were expecting a report and they needed to make haste to Centaur Isle.
Once Mak was happy with the letter (Taking 20 on Diplomacy and KS: Nobility, result 22 and 29) he carefully folded it and sealed it with his family insignia to hand off to Kiwina.
"Here it is Kiwina. This should at least explain our part in the whole affair. They could try to send a ship after us, but on the open sea they have no authority."

(Tsak and Mak haven't weighed in on the destination choices, so I'm assuming they, like Wil don't care, as long as they can fulfill their goals. Since Roth is fine with Bridge Island, the only person that is still voting for Centaur Island is Ayotnom.)
The majority decides Bridge Island should be their next port of call. Armed with that knowledge, Ramsey barks a few orders, and the Rose begins to head to Bridge Island. It is a sunny day without a cloud in the sky. Their is a gentle breeze which is filling the sails, and propelling the Rose towards it's destination, and the temps are a lovely 70 degree Fahrenheit.
About half way to Bridge Island, Mak, at his look out at the bow, spots something jumping in the water. at first he thinks it's a large fish, easily 5 and a half to 6 feet long, but upon closer look he realizes it's a merfolk. The merfolk starts swimming towards the Rose, jumping and splashing in a most joyous display. As the Merfolk gets closer, You see it is a beautiful female with blueish green skin and scales.

Mak had no idea if these merfolk were friendly or not, but their capering about certainly looked friendly enough and his cynicism faded to reveal a smile. He hoped they were as friendly as they appeared as his taste for underwater battles had faded with the victory over the deep.

That would be so helpful, as long as I can still summon as invisible. Oh, and will you tattoo an invisible tattoo invisibly? I don't think that would be practical.. you would need to see the tattoo to not see yourself." "Ha.. such silliness." He then rushes to the side of the ship to see the merfolk. "How do they communicate underwater? Do you think they echo locate?" He asks anyone.

In response to the questions about tattoos, Rolth reminds the Petals that it must be divine magic that is inscribed, so no invisibility and fly spells are normally possible. That leaves many possibilities, including resist energy, waterbreathing, and many others. The tattoos are permanent, so it is a pretty good investment if you choose something that you will want to use many times over the course of an adventuring career. "If I'm not mistaken, we have clerics, druids, and rangers in the party, so ask them what might be of use!"
When the mermaid is announced, Rolth will join Mak at the rail, and join in acclaiming her joyful frolic in the sea. "To what do we owe the honor of your celebration, Lady of the Sea?", he inquires.

Mak announces the presence of the mermaid. He thinks she looks friendly and shouts out a greeting.
Elyas is ready to fight if the mermaid turns out to be an adversary, though he waits before acting.
Wil thinks about Tsak's question about an invisibility tattoo and asks some questions about merfolk.
Rolth gives some clarification on what spells can be turned into tattoos, than greets the mermaid.
Ayotnom asks if she might be here to celebrate the fall of the Deep, or if it's a trap.
Kiwina believes the mermaid means no harm, and he sits back to let others do the talking.
Tsak tells Rolth he will do his research, and comments on how friendly the mermaid seems.
Mak lets Rolth do the taking, and hopes that the mermaid isn't here for a family heirloom they took from some enemies they fought earlier, but than he remembers that those were gillmen, not merfolk.

Elyas is surprised that the mermaid has heard of them, and realizes they aren't to far from the Taur Islands. he awaits Rolths introduction.
Wil has an idea for a tattoo, and waves at the mermaid. he is worried that their past might be catching up with them.

I belong to a small clan that has dedicated their lives to watching the gate, and doing our best to keep the knowledge of said gate, as well as the one who was sealed behind it, from falling into the wrong hands, though it seems we have failed, at least in part, but you heroes have saved the Wold from great suffering. Everyone seems willing to take the elixir though there are a few questions. Lilly answers Ayotnom's question first, "Since it's polymorph magic I see no reason why it wouldn't work, unless taurs have an immunity to such magic that I an unaware of." To Tsak she answers, "The magic should be safe for your kitty, though I'm not sure what the affect will be for an animal. This should be interesting to find out!" And finally to Kiwina, "You can certainly stay in your tauric form and use a manta ray cloak if you prefer, though you will probably have to squeeze into a lot of tight places. You see, our village doesn't get a lot of visitors, and, to be honest, under the sea, if someone is larger than us, they are generally trying to kill us, so we never considered building to accommodate larger persons. That said I promise you we will do all we can to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and once you have squeezed into a building, you should have plenty of room to move about freely. I will let you decide for yourself."
At Kiwina's concerns for a guard on deck, Ramsey says, "I will stay with the ship. If any of the crew wish to join you, they are welcome to go, but my place is on the Rose!" As it turns out, three other crew members decide to stay with the ship as well.
The flask is passed around, and everyone who is going takes a drink. It has the taste of some unknown fruit sweetened with honey, and everyone finds it very pleasant. Once in the water, you find that your lower extremities have been replaced by a fish tail, though everyone except Ayotnom doesn't find any changes to their upper body. Ayotnom however finds his upper body has shrunk down to medium size, though his appearance hasn't been altered. Even Esmeralda's front half has no changes, though her hind legs are replaced with a fish tail.
You swim down to the bottom of the sea, a trip that takes about 20 minutes, and Lilly leads you into a small village. The buildings all appear to be made of corral and stone, and appear to be built more for privacy than protection from the elements. As you swim through town, you see several merfolk watching as Lilly leads you to the largest building in the settlement. The bystanders all seem excited by you presence, and you receive many a huzzah. It is clear that everyone is happy to see the defeaters of the Deep with their own eyes.
As you arrive at the largest building, a middle aged merman meets you.
'Thank you for coming! and thank you daughter for finding them so quickly!"
You see Lilly cringe a bit when the merman addresses her as daughter. The reasoning is unclear, but it seems to have something to do with teenage angst, and perhaps a desire for self identity.
Friends, my name is Salvas and I am the chieftain of this small village. As I'm sure Lilly has already shared, We wish to thank you properly for doing what we could not, and if you are willing, I would like to invite you to join us for a feast in your honor this afternoon. Luckily this only lasts for a moment. Wil returns to his senses. "I'm sorry, that was unexpected. One of my personalities is afraid of fish tails and I had no clue, I won't mention any names, Namir." Happy that he made a good tail splash he checks out his new body underwater, has a brief concern about how bodily functions work and then discounts the concern as part of the adventure.
After meeting the chieftain Falco looks to Lilly. "A tour would be great, I know its your home but it is new and interesting to all of us."

One of Wil's "Friends" has a mental breakdown over the merfolk transformation, but that voice is silenced by everyone else.
Elyas tentatively drinks the elixir and is about to try and calm Wil down, but Wil beats him to it.
Falco drinks the elixir and has a bit of fun with his new tail. He worries about using the facilities, but decides not to think about it. He tells Lilly that a tour would be wonderful.
Rolth tries out his new tail, and thanks Salvas as only Rolth can.
Mak's new tail brings him some bad memories, and asks to be dropped off at the pub.
Kiwina tells Salvas they took on the Deep for their own reasons, but they are glad they were able to help, and looks forward to a tour.
Ayotnom makes a joke about shrinking, and watches Salvas for anything off. The duelist concludes that the chieftain is very proud of his daughter, and loves her dearly, but Lilly is trying to write her own story. One that is out from under the shadow of being chieftain's daughter. Ayotnom concludes that, as a teenager, Lilly misinterprets love and pride for smothering. Ultimately he is certain that he is witnessing a mild case of teenage rebellion.
Tsak is worried for his companion for a moment but when Esmeralda seems to be enjoying her transformation, he is able to relax and look forward to Lilly's tour.
***********************************
Lilly turns out to be delightful tour guide, and you can easily see why Salvas is so proud of his daughter. Sure she has many of the annoying traits found in so many teenagers, but she has a big heart, and performs each task given her flawlessly. She shows you around the town and points out various sights. she mentions that their general store has a Catacombs entrance, if anyone wishes to do any last minute shopping, and at Mak's request she shows him the pub, where he finds a very comfortable atmosphere, and a whole host of merfolk who welcome him in and proceed to buy him drink after drink. Anyone who joins Mak receives the same treatment. You are pretty sure the bar keep would simply put your drinks "on the house", but he doesn't want to take away his customers opportunity to thank the hero or heroes.
Lilly brings those who wish to stay on the tour, around town, pointing out various sights, though as a small village, there isn't that much to see. Lilly makes lovely company. she takes you to what Lilly describes as their city park, and you swim through probably the loveliest aquascapes you have ever seen. There are corrals of various kinds, as well as a well kept kelp forest. (knowledge nature: 20) Highlight to display spoiler: {You spot kelp and corrals from all over the Wold.} the overall appearance of the place is one of beauty and tranquility.
After a few hours, Lilly leads her entourage back to the pub to retrieve a well lubricated Mak, as well as anyone else who stayed with him, than returns to the chieftain's home. She leads you to the back of the house, and you see a separate building, behind the chieftain's residence, that you immediately recognize as a banquet hall.
The hall is decorated, and filled with merfolk, with more entering to join the feast. The walls are lined with what lamps with magical flames "burning" inside them, and swimming at the ceiling are a multitude of lantern fish, that appear to be trained to act as a sort of overhead lighting.
Lilly leads you to the chieftain's table at the head of the room, where Salvas stands to greet you.
"Welcome friends, please join me at my table for food and drink, and let us celebrate!
The food and drink is amazing, and includes many dishes you have never tasted. There are many fish dishes, as well as a lovely kelp salad, and though many of the flavors are foreign to your palate, you find the dishes to be flavorful and enjoyable.

One thing your DM forgot to mention is that there is no water inside the dining hall and pub, and one might assume that most of the buildings serve as similar air pockets. though it makes moving about a bit more cumbersome, for the merfolk, it makes eating and drinking far easier. Also, without the air pockets, food would be extremely bland, as any seasoning would be washed off.
After Kiwina tells his story, a group of bards pick up their instruments and preform as everyone is eating. After dinner, Salvas stands and addresses the crowd.

Rolth is vaguely aware of Kiwina's suggestion, but alas has already launched into the tale...
“In our adventures across the Taur Isles and these seas, we ran into signs and minions of an evil power known as the Deep, a threat at that point unknown to us. Through our journeys, we learned that the Deep was some sort of malevolent power that seemed to be making a play for domination in the region. Its minions distributed magical amulets that warp the minds of their wearers, turning them into mindless, aggressive pawns. We met a chuul that used a piece of the Deep, part of a tentacle, to cursedly warp the flesh of those in its thrall, making them tentacled monstrosities. The chuul was accompanied by frog-like Deep Ones. The chuul promised us power if we joined it, and madness, despair and death if we resisted. We of course saw through its lies, and defeated it in battle. Earlier, we had encountered and defeated a sort of reverse Cecaelia named Aaroth, who told tales of a coming doom that was beyond our understanding. And on our sailing journeys between the Taur Isles, we passed a great rock formation that looked tentacled as well.
At several points, we encountered a mysterious fellow named Nyloth, who professed to be an envoy of Domi and gave us occasional clues to guide our quest. In our most recent encounter with Nyloth, he informed us that a sage named Ardian, in Fargunia, was also seeking the Deep, and might wish to trade information. So we traveled to that strange land to meet Ardian. In our discussions, he revealed the Deep was a very old creature of some sort, an evil thing bent on destruction. Long ago the creature had opened a gateway from another place into the Wold. As you seem to know all too well, some nearby underwater folk were subjugated, and fell in thrall to this thing. Eventually, heroes rose up from those aquatic folk–I’m sure this august village must have had some among their number! They fought the creature back. They were not strong enough to destroy it, so they sealed it with a Teucri artifact. They broke the artifact into several items, and hid them.”
Ardian told us that the seals on this prison had begun to fail, and the power of the entity known as the Deep had begun to push back through. He asked us to find the pieces of the Teucri artifact so that the Deep could be defeated once and for all. He helped us find assistance from local notables, including magics that allowed our ship to sail under the sea! And he gave us clues that allowed us to find the Teucri keys to the Deep’s prison. Alas, unbeknownst to us, Ardian had fallen under the sway of the Deep himself. So when we traveled to the portal that sealed the Deep away from the Wold, Ardian revealed his treachery, but was slain by the Deep nonetheless. We then gave battle to this wily master of deceit, eventually pinning him down and delivering sufficient blows by weapon and magic to lay him low. The portal was destroyed in the process, but we were able to recover the Teucri keys. Weary but triumphant, we returned to Fargunia to ensure that no more dangerous lore was remaining in Ardian’s tower. Having done this, we set sail again, where we had the great fortune to encounter the wonderful Lilly, and so be guided before you here. Well, there you have it, the tale of our most recent quest! I hope that you have enjoyed it nearly as much as I have enjoyed this dinner.”

Falco considers telling the tale but decides to let someone else do it. He asks for a copy or two of the manuscript.
Kiwina suggests a slightly shortened version, as the whole tale would take to long. (I love the videos. I needed a good chuckle in the morning.)
Rolth shared the whole tale, in spite of Kiwina's suggestion for an abbreviated version. Bards just can't help themselves!
Ayotnom asks Lilly to track down the grounds keeper. Lilly is happy to oblige, and finds and introduces him to a slightly elderly merman who she introduces as Rengard. Rengard says, "Well ya see, as long as the water parameters are close, you can grow pretty much anything, anywhere down here. This garden predates me by several generations, and with proper care, it will out last my grand kids, so I'm not exactly certain how all these wonderful specimens were gathered. I do know that if you were to take a plant or variety of corral native to these parts, and swim to the opposite end of the Wold, assuming you have similar water parameters, such as temperature, salinity, hardness, ECT., they will thrive." At the party, he Ayotnom lets Rolth do the talking.
With a full belly, Tsak shares his approval of Rolth's words. He makes a decision not to drink the town dry.

Kiwina wears the brooch happily. He does some calculations, and realizes they have been in merfolk form for about 10 hours.
Ayotnom further probes about the garden, and asks about the brooch. Renguard answers, "You know, I've always suspected there was some magic in this place. The tranquility of this park is almost magical. who knows, maybe there is something to be said about that." Salvas gives the minotaur a puzzled look, and answered, "It's a brooch, not a pendent, you pin it to your clothing, there is no chain. You may wish to remove it before you regain your normal form, to avoid ripping the fabric of your shirt, as the shirt grows, because the brooch probably won't change in size.
Mak recognizes the honor of being named friend, and wears the brooch.
Tsak thanks Salvas for the brooch.

As Elyas asks Salvas about his villages story, he answers, "Whats to be said that you don't already know. It happened over 1000 years ago, and there isn't any merfolk alive who was around then. Most people had written the whole thing off as legend, but our village new better, as we were the ones tasked with watching the gate. I would tell you more, if I could, but I simply don't know anything more than you already know."

Elyas nods "yes, information about the Deep was quite hard to find, and we certainly found a lot of people who didn't believe it was real. regardless of how much you knew about it, thank you for your service in guarding the gate. it is quite possible that without someone watching over it the Deep would have been able to influence someone to open the gateway much earlier than it did. I hate to think what that monster could have done given its freedom...
Elyas enjoys the remainder of the feast time, but also carefully studies the banquet hall, using his very detailed memory to recall the shape and size of as many things as he could. You never know when it might be helpful to have a teleportation location in a very hidden and safe spot, especially given their tokens of friendship...

As Falco hears the stuff with the Deep started a thousand years ago he is surprised, considering. 'With the power we have gained in so short a time it is hard to believe that others, at the time, could not have done the same. Maybe the merfolk should communicate more with the outside world.'
"IF something like this comes up again maybe talking to the people of the surface could help. Adventurers and heroes have bene part of the Wold for a long time so it is possible this could have been avoided, just a thought."

Perhaps the Deep weakened over the course of its imprisonment." Kiwina knows that what they imprisoned it with was a Teucri artifact, but they still figured out how to get it working and how to get it in there.
Still, events seem to be winding down here. If Kiwina is going to explore the seabed before the others are ready to go to the ship, he figures now is the time. He thanks their hosts, but explains they have offered him an opportunity to see a new landscape he can't pass up.

As a sailor Mak had heard all the rumors about merfolk, gillmen, sirens, and other creatures that lived in the waters in and around the Taur Isles. None of that prepared him for the reality. He felt privileged to be this close to them and to learn their ways.

Wil had been staring at a spot in the wall for what seemed like days, till he suddenly realized it was a piece of choral. He laughed, a hardy laugh. He accepted the broach with a smile. He had really been out of it. “Ah, I heard there was a Catacombs, is there also a place to train. I have a few WLA levels to complete?l Thanks

Tsak visits the catacombs before they leave. He's after some restoration potions to get his mind and body back to where they were before the overgrown slug zapped him. After that he's ready to return to the Rose and head out for the next adventure, or diplomacy, whichever happens first.

Elyas understands why Salvas can't share more. He makes a mental note of the surroundings in case a haven is ever needed.
Falco considers the Petals rise in power, wondering why the merfolk couldn't have dealt with them, and why they never asked for help. He suggests they ask for help in the future.
Kiwina suggests that Maybe The Deep was weakened by his imprisonment, and hadn't come to full power yet. Especially considering the merfolk used a powerful artifact to imprison him. He excuses himself, as he desires to explore the area.
Mak had heard of merfolk gillmen and sirens, but never thought he would see them, and here in this adventure, he has encountered 2 out of the three, and heard of an encounter with the 3rd. He feels privileged to have seen what he has seen.
Wil asks if the is a WLA branch.
Rolth joins Kiwina on the sight seeing.
Ayotnom says he will put on the brooch when returning to full size.
Tsak make a pit stop at the Catacombs.

Salvas chuckles a bit as he answers Falco, "You are not wrong friend, though, in our defense, until now, we knew not who we could trust. To add to the problem, when even other merfolk communities have forgotten the truth, and insisted the whole thing was not but legend, finding those who would listen proved challenging, and we simply had given up."
To Kiwina he says, "Of course, please feel free to explore. Based on what Lilly told me, you should still have around 12 hours left before the elixir wears off."
To Wil he says, "Sadly we do not have that which you seek. We are an isolated community, or at least we have been, and never had a need for such a facility. Now that the threat, of The Deep is over, maybe we can and should rejoin the rest of civilization. There are many here, especially among the youth, that would love nothing less than exploring, the Wold. In the future, such a place may be a desirable addition to our community."
As Kiwina and Rolth explore the surrounding area, they discover that the village is nestled into a natural ring of stone. They surmise that his location was probably chosen to offer protection from rogue water currents, as enemies could simply attack from above. The rocks themselves are comprised mostly of quartz found in a multitude of colors, with some granite mixed in for good measure. There are schools of many different brightly colored fish swimming along the rocks, as well as much corral. To say the location is beautiful would be an understatement. Outside of and away from the ring, there doesn't seem to be much else, With the exception of a dense kelp forest just south of the village ring, which you can easily surmise is a source of food for the community, all you see are what appear to be large nets scattered about. close examination, and you see that the nets are all approximately 100 ft cubes, and they are fastened to the seabed, the nets are filled with fish, and you realize this is a sort of farm, and these nets are pens used to house livestock.

Elyas joins Rolth and Kiwina in exploring the community a bit more. He is very excited to see this community as it is so different than the ones he knows well above the waves. it is incredibly interesting to him to see how some things (like the livestock pens) are analogous of life in any other town, but all have their own unique spin.
He thoroughly enjoys the time spent in this place.

Wil is unlucky in the fact that the voices in his head haven't gone away. He swims a bit awkwardly as he tries to negotiate with the ones still uncomfortable with the transition. "I'm not much for trusting either, " Wil says. "Anything we can do to help secure that there are some trustworthy creatures in the Wold. I know a couple." He winks and smiles.
Outside of his trouble, he does manage to enjoy exploring with the others. He is also looking for anyone interested in a game of chance. "A gold piece for a good guess. I roll a 20-sided die. A "9" is my next roll going to be higher or lower? Pardon me, may I gamble here? Is that ok?"

Rolth nods along in agreement with Falco's heartfelt statements, and is in awe of the splendor of this place overall. "I hope that you will say hello if we ever share the same seas again, or even come and visit us if you arrive in one of our harbors one day. The Wold will be a better place if all folk join together in common purpose to strive for the good of each other."

Ayotnom also goes with Rolth and Kiwana to explore the community more. He takes in the interesting sights and says, "Normally I would agree with Falco but you folks have that kelp garden that has ocean fauna from around the Wold. Be careful who you share that information with. I would speculate some might want to exploit it considering it is unusual to have all those samples in the same area where things are different all over the Wold."
