DM Steve -- gremlins....and a cursed book that gives the local scenery a quite interesting....kick Wednesday September 14th, 2022 10:40:22 PM Manolo gives a somewhat cryptic answer to Rob’s question about mayhem, although it sums things up well if you know what he’s talking about. Drack asks Walker to pull up an hour before dusk. He talks about needing others to form a watch, but he doesn’t think that makes much impression on Walker. Robert, after hearing Manolo and Loryn talk about their adventures, says this is all the more reason to stick around. He then seconds Mortimer’s question to Mole. Ash listens as the others talk to Rob. Torrynashkabbeth picks a campsite atop a rise, explaining to Drack and Walker why. Then she looks for firewood. Mole continues to listen to the conversation and watch. He says deep dwelling dwarves can do what Mortimer describes. Loryn explains more about the group and their current task to Rob as they ride. Including mention of devil corpses. Mortimer asks Mole a question about dwarves.
Drack, Torryn, and Walker choose a campsite for the evening with the others far behind them. Walker takes care of the horses while Torryn finds firewood. When the others arrive it is already dark, but Walker starts tending their animals as well. He may be lacking dealing with people, but he has a way with the animals.
When Grog asks why they chose this spot and Torryn explains, Grog enthuses about the choice. ”It’s a cliche, but you should expect the unexpected. This is a good spot for that. The top of the hill provides a good view and advantage if we are attacked. It’s not steep enough to slow us down, but we’ll be above any attackers. On the other hand, we’re more easily seen, especially with that fire. If you’d chosen the undergrowth, we could have hidden better, but anything that found us would get closer before we noticed.”
Torrynashkabbeth (Nick) HP:27/27 AC:16 F9: R:10 W:12 Thursday September 15th, 2022 4:41:47 AM
The wood had been collected and the fire built by the time that the others rolled in. Grog’s comments on her choice of site accurately reflected her own logic; so that was pleasing. She saw no point in hiding. They were the hunters: hunting for whatever curse beset Kandy. If these “orknies” were coming for him, she wanted to see them coming.
Espying the stranger, she decided that introductions were in order and skipped over towards him.
Upon getting closer it’s clear that Torrynashkabbeth is not tall for a Half Elf. However, she is still blessed with her father’s elegant, fluid grace and good looks. She is very pretty. It is however, not her looks per se that catch the observer’s eye, but her hair. From a distance it had seemed merely blonde, albeit a platinum blonde, but it possessed a markedly silver hue and when the light catches it the ends sparkle pale blue. Even the firelight made it sparkle with a bluish tinge rather than the softer golden glow that might have been anticipated. It would seem that the half elf was very proud and vain of her unusual hair for it has been grown long - very long. The sparkle and hue seems all the more noticeable given her rich, honey coloured skin. Her eyes are, somewhat like her hair, a pale stormy blue. She has an impish face: a small pixie nose and full lips, along with long-lashed, heavy lidded eyes. Yet it’s the smile that’s most memorable. Torryn is often smiling. Around her neck hangs an unusual necklace: it holds three ornate sun-like discs; two are yellow, one is is orange. There’s also a small, silver lightning bolt that hangs from a simple leather cord around her neck.
Torryn wears a pair of practical, brown, over-the-knee boots. Pale green leggings cover her lower limbs and mustard yellow tunic, her torso. Like her boots, her riding gloves are brown. Given that the tunic is open at the sides it’s clear that she is unafraid to flash a little flesh; flesh that is for the most part obfuscated by a large, black, hooded cloak. (The hood is at present down).
She stuck out a hand.
”You must be Robbie.” She stated with a broad grin. ”Dracky mentioned you. I’m Torrynashkabbeth, but no one calls me that. Just Torryn or Torry is fine. I’m a Sacred Dancer, you know.” She concluded with pride. She then leaned in to whisper in a more conspiratorial fashion. ”What do you do? If I may ask?”

I have a feeling the Devil critters will spy us no matter as they home in on Walker. At least here we might see them coming too."
"I see no reason to change watch Drack, except to ask Rob here to stand on first watch as well." The gnome casts an eye in the warriors direction and sees that he is agreeable to the suggestion.
"We are out a bit now, I feel we let Walker sleep as long as possible. He's going to probably get impatient with the pace tomorrow and the longer that takes the closer we can stay together."

In response to Rob’s query, Torryn’s smile grew even bright/
”Oh, we dance!” She answered gleefully. It was no explanation at all, but to Torryn it said all there needed to be said. ”So, with all this boating and teaming, there’s not been much time for dancing?” She added, the sympathy evident in her voice.
”Thanks, Loryn.” She chirped brightly in response to Loryn’s acknowledgement. She then turned back to Rob. [b[]”I’m on last watch, so I had better go sort my sleeping stuff.”[/b]
She sought out Spot and admired how well Walker had groomed her, before taking up her bedroll and cloak to fashion herself a comfortable bed. There were times when it was useful to be small: the bedroll could be doubled for added warmth and comfort and the cloak could be thrown over the top, concealing her almost entirely.

Mortimer Margrave (Stephen F.): ac:18/13/15. hp:26/26 Thursday September 15th, 2022 10:28:21 PM
After dinner, Mortimer just hangs back and relaxes as the others take up entertaining the new guest. He feels especially tired this evening, so if they're keeping the same watch schedule, he decides to find a spot and get comfortable. He sleeps in his armor, just like the night before. He has the endurance for it, so won't be fatigued in the morning.
He soon finds himself in the humble tavern, like before. Heads of his family sitting around the dining table with him. Lady Agrippina kindly greets him with a smile. Harmakis and Mortdecai both give nods of acknowledgement as they savor their wine. It would seem Lord Ambrose could care less that young Mortimer had joined them this evening. He gives him only a sideways glance of contempt.
In these dreams, Mortimer has never been able to move. However his petrification seems to have ended. He can move his arm, turn his head ... blink his eyes. As the serving wench walks by, Mortimer takes the opportunity to snatch his empty goblet and presents it to her. She immediately pours him some wine. This gets the full attention of the others, even Lord Ambrose. Mortimer is quite proud of this achievement. Mortimer takes a hearty swig of his drink and is hit by a sudden rush that almost overtakes his senses. That was no ordinary wine! Everyone at the table attempt to restrain their amusement; with varied degrees of success. Not so for Lord Ambrose, he simply states, "Careful child ... it's an acquired taste."

Robert explains that he has been a boatsman and a teamster. He may give something else a try. Mole introduces himself to Rob before settling down. Drack asks Walker if the orcneas will come tonight, and starts to organize watches. Ash listens to Grog’s advice. Mortimer relaxes with the others, catching Rob up to speed. He decides to sleep in his armor. Loryn is sore after a day of riding. He suggests adding Rob at first watch. He also suggests letting Walker sleep in the next day. He prepares an exceptional dinner. Torrynashkabbeth is pleased with Grog’s opinion. She introduces herself to the stranger, and explains that she is a Sacred Dancer. (That is, someone who dances.) She tucks in early to be ready for her watch.
In response to Darck’s question, Walker says “Naht” – meaning no. Walker finishes caring for the animals, and manages to convey his appreciation for the meal to Loryn. Once he has the horses to his satisfaction, he prepares his own bedroll. Walker seems partial to Spot, but this evening also to Rob’s horse.

Torryn and Walker have bedded down as the rest of the group (minus watchers) make their preparations to sleep. Walker squirms fitfully, the sits up and digs something heavy out of the grass. As he stares at it, his eyes grow wide. He bolts up, grabbing his bow, while the thing he found is tossed to the side.
Torrynashkabbeth (Nick) HP:27/27 AC:16 F9: R:10 W:12 Friday September 16th, 2022 4:53:14 AM
Torryn was most assuredly NOT sleeping in her clothes. She didn't want to stink. She'd curled up under the wagon and more significantly wrapped in her hooded cloak under her blankets. She was well and truly buried. She was a small, black bundle amongst the shadows. So Walker simply sitting up and tossing some small object was not going to disturb her.
Her few garments were to hand, airing on the side of the wagon, but her boots were right next to her, as was her spear.
When it was time for her watch, she could dress easily enough in the dark, which, given the starlight, wasn't that dark for her.

"This stone squirrel - was a crudely carved thing or a petrified animal?" She'd heard her father mention such things. There were, she was led to believe, any number of creatures that turn a person to stone. Not that there'd been anything like that near the village - not in her lifetime. Standing around, waiting for something to happen, did not strike Torryn a very productive use of her time. Certainly, it was nothing like as productive as sleeping, which was what she'd been attempting to do. So, she picked up a stone and advanced down the hill. (N14)
"Go to bed, Silly, or come out. There are too many of us for you to bother and you've lost the element of surprise. But we won't hurt you if you simply want to be left undisturbed" She shrugged uncaring that she was most likely talking to an animal that couldn't understand a word she was saying. "Of course, that works both ways; so you've got to stop disturbing us. The 'going away' thing I mentioned. That's a really good idea. Then you won't get hurt or anything bad like that."
Torryn was intent on advancing further. The stone she carried was only going to be used if she had to and her intention was only to make an animal flee - not actually hit it. Any hitting would be done by her spear or more likely her feet.

Loryn moves his lights to the east and back, but they reveal nothing but more open hilltop and undergrowth. He calls for bows and a sharp lookout. Torryn moved forward. (K.18)
[b["Go away, Silly."[/b] She told the undergrowth - or so it seemed. She then threw the stone that she'd picked up. It sailed in the general direction of the area that she appeared to be hailing.
(Hits AC:16 - concealment to no avail.)
She then readied her spear. She hoped that the stone would deter the approaching creature, but if not she'd throw the spear next. She actually considered herself a better fighter without weapons. She really should have paid more attention to Agratha's weapons classes.
Another thought then intruded: protection. She could invoke her Fey magic to good effect. Sadly, she'd been very much focused on avoiding combat and seeking to dissuade the intruder. Perhaps she's call upon her Fey armour next, rather than deploy the spear. All these thoughts in no way impacted upon her watchful gaze. She was closer now - much closer. So close that she was definitely thinking Fey Amour was much the better idea than throwing stones: not that was going to admit that.

We will hit it with a three pronged attack until we can get close enough to switch to swords. One of you on each side, I'll take the front. I'll avert my eyes, making it harder to hit for me, but that will free up the sides for you two to flank it. Let's use some tactics here."
After moving forward another 10 feet, Mortimer thinks he might see or hear something now. He gives Drack a nod when he suggests not getting too close. He does not want to get any closer until he knows what it is they face.

She was generally too full of energy to sit still for long. Hence the lessons with Agratha.

Thereafter she had her magic, but she wasn't afraid to close and fight it either. Mole moves closer to the battle. Drack moves up and shoots, but misses. Loryn humbly claims to be loved by all for his magics, and moves his dancing lights over the creature. Mortimer cracks a wicked smile, moving up to fire a ray of enfeeblement, but is again hampered by his armor. Wardd apparently is not smiling upon him today. Ash spots the creature and lets fly a magic missile, striking it for 8hp pf damage. Torrynashkabbeth follows Drack’s wise guidance to back up a bit, and feels around for her bow before concluding she left it near the wagon in her haste. It needs to be tracked somewhere public. Thanks!} Torrynashkabbeth pulls off the impressive feat of defeating the basilisk's gaze twice! In return, she lobs a disc of fire at it that explodes into a ball of fire! She follows up this awesomeness by asking “Groggy” what the basilisk is…again. Some people just don’t know when to stop :) Robert digs deep and heroically shrugs off the basilisk’s attempt to petrify him. He then looses a stone at the creature, striking it for 6hp of damage before moving back a bit. Manolo takes another shot, but is averting his gaze and misses by a wide margin.
Grog guffaws, and reminds Torryn that he already identified it as a basilisk. ”So, Bethy, what do you recall from your training of the powers and weaknesses of this creature?” he asks with what passes for a half-ogre version of an impish grin. To the rest, he offers from his place near the wagon, ”Notice anything about who has had to ward off the effects of its gaze and who has not?” He lifts Manolo’s chin and opines, ”Seems safe enough back here, eh?”
The basilisk is severely pummeled by blow and spell, but seems determined to keep attacking. Loryn’s Glitterdust spell seems to have made it sparklier, but not blinded it. It similarly seems to escape the worst of Mortimer’s ray, but nevertheless suffers some strength loss. Torryn’s fireball lights up the night, but the wily creature also manages to avoid some of the flames.
The creature desperately charges Robert, biting him savagely for 9hp of damage. Those jaws must be strong enough to gobble stone! Its gaze continues to sweep around as well, and Robert, Drack, Torryn, Mortimer and Mole may have to make saves, depending on what they choose to do this round.
(OOC: If you close your eyes to avoid having to make a saving throw, the creature would gain total concealment, with your attacks having a 50% miss chance, assuming you attack into the right square in the first place. If you merely avert your gaze, the creature gains concealment, with you having a 20% miss chance, and you have a 50% chance of avoiding the need to make a saving throw. Note that spells also often require you to target a creature, in which case you could avert your gaze but not completely close your eyes.)

Mortimer keeps trying to put some distance between him and that thing, but the basilisk keeps closing the gap. It took everything he had to fight off the last gaze attack, he doesn't believe he would have such luck again ... or anyone else for that matter. Sometimes you have to make your own luck. Yet it still isn't enough if the dice bitterly hates you with every fiber of its being.

Morty was a statue! Robbie looked like the same was about to befall him, but somehow fought it off. That was impressive, but Torryn didn't want the same fate to befall anyone else. It never actually occurred that it might happen to her. She drew back her arm to throw, uncaring of the monster's baleful gaze.

Torryn couldn't fail; not now that she and Groggy were on such good terms. "Bethy". It was better than Beth. She'd never really cared for 'Beth much, but this was the legendary Grog and if he wanted to call her Bethy, that was fine with her. It didn't actually register that he was subtly telling her that "Groggy" wasn't really appropriate. That was unfortunate for him, because if she survived, he was forever after going to be "Groggy" to her. That survival though, was far from guaranteed. Her 'plan', if such it could be named, consisted of her invoking her Fey Shield and tackling the creature from the side, thus granting a larger surface for her friends to strike.
"Don't worry. I got this, Groggy!" She assured the venerable ogre.

It was no use. Torryn simply couldn't recall her father's tale. It was quite embarrassing really: she couldn't even recall the name of the beast. Groggy had had to tell her - twice! In her defence, she was rather preoccupied - doing her best NOT to be turned to stone like poor Morty.
In response to Grog's question, Torryn replied somewhat forlornly. "I'm sure that there's a way, I just cannot recall it." She then looked to the others for inspiration. Not even her best dance was going to unpetrify Morty.

Torrynashkabbeth tries her best to recall tales of basilisk but to no avail. Still, she quickly pitches in, sans gloves, when the others show the way. Manolo sighs in relief, and is thankful there was only one beast.
Grog looks on proudly as the party combines its knowledge to aid the petrified Mortimer. ”I had a good feeling about you lot, and you certainly seem to be living up to that expectation.”
As the basilisk blood is rubbed onto Mortimer’s stony body, it begins to somehow soak into the rock. Upon noticing Kandruth's absence, she huffed in resignation. She was no tracker and it was dark, so haring after him was not a good idea. Even she could see that.
"Kandy's gone." She confirmed. His absence was hard to miss. "It really is too dark to charge around looking for him now. I suggest we continue with the watches and look for him come the sun. He'll likely sleep in again, so won't get that far." Of course, with the wagon, the group was far from swift. Still, she saw no advantage in splitting up any further. His eyes go wide as he witnesses globs of blood soak into his flesh like a sponge. He looks on slack-jawed at Toryn's smiling face; she's covered in blood. Likewise, Drack appears bloodied as he carries over two more handfuls of blood and chunks of offal. The new guy, Robert, is doing the same! There is a trail of blood and entrails leading back to the open gut of the basilisk's corpse. It's a bit too much to take in all at once. All he can say is ...

Regrettably, there is no treasure stuck in the digestive tract of the basilisk. Fortunately, with magical help, it is at least fairly easy to get cleaned up after restoring Mort and pillaging the corpse. You are able to settle back into camp and get back to sleep, watches set, and the like. No further disturbances occur overnight, and the dawn brings a sunny morning. Grog asks what your plans are now, but seems to be most interested in continuing toward the Red Hills rather than chasing down Kandruth. ”Seems to me like the fellow was genuinely concerned that his curse would bring danger to those who sought to travel with him, and could not bear the guilt if something were to happen. "I think that's very wise, Robbie." Torryn replied. She'd taken the time to dress and clean herself thoroughly, hoping that no one else noticed her decidedly blonde moment: she'd taken her clothes off to air them and keep them fresh, rather than sleep in them. D'uh! She had a Mending spell that could render things as good as new. Fresh smelling, clean clothes and an equally fresh body were easily achieved. Sure, it took a few applications, but that was hardly taxing.
With everything clean she felt a lot better. Not even Kandruth's absence dampened her good spirits. "We should press on to the Red Hills. All this recent stuff - what with ogres coming into town and all - perhaps there's someone or something behind it all. And it's definitely better if we go to them rather than lots of 'them' coming into town. Kandy was, as Groggy said, pretty determined to spare everyone more suffering and you have to admire him for that. I guess we do our part now - Try to make sure nothing else creeps up on us."
She then went to check on Spot. Spot too was in a good mood. It seemed that Kandy had still taken some time to comb Spot's mane before departing. "You, are the most spoilt horsey EVER." She told the mare playfully as she readied her for another day's travel.

He wonders what value or tastiness might be found in bits of the slain basilisk. And decides to rub the squirrel with the basilisk blood as well, to no effect. Ash welcomes Rob into the fold. Manolo chastises Mort for wanting to risk eating the thing. Mole and Loryn take this all in silently.
These matters being settled, you are able to resume your journey into the Red Hills, which increase in size as you proceed. Grog reckons, ”It’ll be about a day or so before we get into the territory that at least back in the day was most likely to be occupied by the humanoid tribes up here. But I guess if the basilisk encounter was anything to judge by, I was right to expect the unexpected, eh? So, any ideas about what we ought to be doing as we move along?”

"I think.....we should definitely by watchful for things of beauty. No, don't laugh. It's important. You see, there's a lot of badness, danger and stuff out there and we need the beauty to ward us against all that. It lifts the soul and strengthens the spirit as well as fostering hope. But, in being watchful for beauty we also see all that other yucky stuff too. We don't want that getting past us. AND, we could pick up tracks and important stuff like that. Maybe see if Kandy is ahead of us. So, to do this right, we should have a couple of outriders and rear-guard. Not too spread out - we need to come to each other's aid, but enough to maybe thwardt an ambush or something. That's what I think we should be doing." She concluded positively after something of a hesitatnt start.

“Well Rob, our main plan was to go with Walker and help him out, but apparently he doesn’t care for our help. Now I think the plan is to stay with Grog and go see if we can find the humanoid tribes up here to see what’s going on in the area. Seems like more and more trouble has been happening lately, and some of it seems to be coming from the red hills.”
“I’m not sure if we want to split up too much, but generally, that’s a good idea. If you want to take the lead about 150’ in front of the wagon, and Rob and I each take flanking positions 150’ feet off to the sides, that will expand our view of the area significantly.”

He then starts to clean the blood-coated, stone squirrel with a Prestidigitation spell. "Looks like we have one of the finest stone-carved critter sculptures I've ever seen. Should fetch a handful of gold coin." (Appraise: 14)
In response to Manolo concerns, "I've eaten all sorts of critters," he says with a sly smile. "From the crunchy to the chewy, and even the slimy, they all became meat for supper."

Loryn gives the wagon wheel a small kick. Gnomes did not give up on ideas easily, but the whole group was very set on not going after Walker. Loryn knew they could catch him, but again, the group was done with the crazy half elf from out of time and that would be that. Kandruth would be back in the land of the Lavendar Moon soon enough and thus his first lesson on 'you can't save everyone, especially those who don't wish to saved' was taught and, for the most part, learned.
Looking up, Loryn suddenly realized everyone was talking and mounting up to follow some sort of plan of action. Loryn scoots over to mount up himself on his donkey and pulls in next to the right of the wagon about 5' away.

Plus, I am good at spotting things - mostly....when I'm not distracted. But I really don't get distracted THAT often. Not like I used to." It wasn't a very convincing sales pitch, but Torryn concluded with a broad smile as if she'd just delivered a wonderful soliloquy.
"Oh, and I found the bow now too. that's kind of useful, right?"
DM BatMark -- Onward and Upward Monday October 3rd, 2022 9:15:34 PM Torrynashkabbeth offers a plan for moving out in a wider formation and offers to go up front with her new-found bow. Drack lets Ron know that they had previously planned to help Kandruth, but now should stick with Grog. He is good with Torryn’s plan as long as folks don’t spread out too much. Robert likes the idea of taking a flanking position and suggest staying with eyesight. Loryn reluctantly lets go of the idea of following Kandruth. He forms up near the wagon. Mortimer agrees that Kandruth wasn’t keen on having company. He cleans off the stone squirrel, which still doesn’t look too valuable. It might fetch a few coins at best. Ash advises that folks should stay in range of healing, lest they die. He apparently has a somewhat dark sense of humor. Manolo volunteers to watch the rear from the wagon area. Mole looks a little lost.
Grog looks at your dispersed formation, ”That ought to help if the bad guys start lobbing fireballs, I suppose.” Saying no more, he gets on the wagon, and your caravan continues its move into the hills. After about a half day’s further travel, which passes without incident, the track turns into a pass through two larger hills. Grog signals for a halt and gathers those back in who wish to discuss the next steps.
”We won’t be able to take the wagon much further, as we wind up into the hills through this pass. Probably for the best, as we are approaching the area where I’d expect to find some of the tribes to lair up here. I imagine we wouldn’t easily get the drop on them trundling up in a big old wagon, eh? Any of you folks see anywhere good for us to hide the wagon and horse as we try to scout up a little further? And any thoughts on how we ought to approach this area, knowing that there are likely some unfriendly humanoids up ahead?”

Torryn didn't really 'do' Geography or Survival much. Both had most definitely been her father's fields of expertise. that wasn't much help at the moment. At Grog's behest, she waited for the wagon and then listened to his query. She was left with the distinct impression that he was testing them. He seemed happy to let them make the mistakes and so learn from them. That being said, she didn't think that they'd made too many thus far.
"Sorry, Groggy, I didn't see anything that sort of jumped out at me like that, but then, honestly, I wasn't really looking for that. I can go take another look - specifically for that, if you like?" She offered by way of apology.
Leaving the wagon seemed like a good idea. They'd certainly be quieter and less conspicuous. Wagons were not discreet.
"Do we leave the horses too?" She then asked. She wasn't sure how she felt about that. She certainly didn't want to place Spot in any danger; so, was leaving her or taking her going to best achieve that goal? She was far from certain. Torryn then turned her focus to the last part of his question.
"I think it's best if whoever or whatever is there, doesn't know we're here. Now, going unnoticed is a lot easier for one person, than a group, but if spotted or found, a single person is WAY more vulnerable. So, I guess we compromise there. We go together, but strive for as much stealth as we can muster. If the horses are coming, we could try to muffle their hooves - once we get close to ..um...whatever. OR, Perhaps we have a scout. that way they can warn the less stealthy of what lies ahead. Being prepared for what's there could be key to survival. Well, that's what my father says....a lot."
Torryn, being Torryn, had all but forgotten about Kandruth. She was very much focussed on the matter of at hand: not being eaten. Which she assumed was what the 'locals' here actually did.
Drack (Chris J) - hp 35/35 - AC 17 Tuesday October 4th, 2022 9:01:30 AM
Drack pulls back closer to the wagon as things narrow, and listens to Grog. He's happy Mole spotted a good place since he didn't know much about things like that.
"On foot is fine. How hostile are we expecting Grog? Are we going to have to kill a bunch of them before they relent? All we want to do is talk with them and find out if anything strange has been going on in these hills and filtering down to town, unless there are other issues I'm unaware of?"
AC 13 HP 26/26 Loryn Glitterfall; Dan K Tuesday October 4th, 2022 10:25:23 AM
Loryn catches the dour look on Mole's face. The dwarf didn't much like it either, but again nothing to do now but ride on. At Ash's comment he chuckles, and shouts over to Ash
"Oh come now Ash. You know we have almost no means of healing, so how far away he is doesn't mean anything really!"
The group pulls up and Loryn defers to Mole. He had no sense at all of such things. Stealthy approach, yea the group screamed that and Loryn smiles again. Barely talked Drack out of his plate mail when going swimming, no way it was happening here. Robert was likely of similar mind on the subject. The group had a pair of scouts and maybe a runner and so that was Loryns thought.
"We have Mole and Manolo as scouts and we have Torry who can be point with the rest of us just sort of doing our thing. Well assuming Mole can stay in animal form long enough?" He poses that to the earth dwarf and then continues his thought. "Torry takes up maybe 100' in front of us and relay back what the scouts might find and we make plans proper on what that is."
Loryn offfers an answer to Drack as well. "If it's ogres goblins or some other such savages, then yea. I think it's a good deal of beat them into submission. They won't hesitate to add any of us to the menu and some of us wont even get that nice way to go."
Manolo (Michael A) -- AC 17/15/12 -- CMD 19 -- HP 25/25 Tuesday October 4th, 2022 6:55:37 PM

Robert (Brent H) (39/39 HP | AC: 21; Touch: 12; FF: 17, CMD: 20) Tuesday October 4th, 2022 8:27:34 PM "Being alert is probably more important than being sneaky. Being too sneaky will greatly slow us down. So, we leaving the horses with the wagon?"
Mortimer looks up and then left and right. He shrugs and concedes to Mole's keen observation. "Whatever Mole said. Got an eye for that kind of thing, he does." He then buries his face deeper under his hood. The sun was a bit too bright today.
DM BatMark -- Like Day and Night Tuesday October 4th, 2022 9:43:23 PM Robert sees a gully that could hold the wagon, but it isn’t really suitable. He thinks being alert is better than sneaky. Mole spots a better place to stash the wagon up ahead. Drack thinks that going ahead on foot is fine, and asks Grog what kind of reception to expect. Loryn teases Ash about the party’s lack of healing making his suggestion somewhat moot. He offers a suggestion for moving forward in a way that allows you to stay in touch without making too much racket. And opines that ogres, goblins, or savages are involved, then pummeling them into submission sounds good. Torrynashkabbeth thinks you could choose between several plans, including sending ahead a single stealthy scout, or muffling the horses’ hooves, or going all together. Manolo thinks sneaking is not a problem, but that care is called for. Mortimer concedes to Mole’s keen observations. The sun is too bright for his tastes. Ash
Grog snorts at Loryn’s description of ogres and the like, ”Unfortunately all too true. Still, I think it would be best to gather information before wading into a general battle. We’re really here to see what threat might be brewing up here, but of course that could lead to a fight, what with them maybe being territorial and you being big darned heroes and all. Probably best to keep your options open. This should be a good spot for the wagon and horses. I doubt we’ll be away too long, assuming we survive. Do you want to press ahead while the daylight lasts or wait until nightfall?”

Torryn wasn't quite sure what the plan was. It didn't make much sense to her to go behind the noisy, armour-clad warriors. She was a LOT stealthier than them. Then again, upon reflection, she might be able to protect those perhaps a bit more vulnerable to harm. What she was more certain of though, was the wisdom of moving now.
"I favour pressing straight on now." She declared unequivocally. "Most of the bad guys tend to be nocturnal. They can certainly see better at night than most of us; so, we should use the daylight to best effect, whilst we still have it. I'm going to find a nice spot for Spot. She'll look after the other horses. She's very good like that" Torryn really had nothing to base her last assertion on. Most likely it was misplaced confidence, but she and Spot had got along far better than she expected. She leant forward and whispered into the horse's ear. "I bet Kandy misses you too, Spotty."

And somewhat unnerving. his thoughts were pulled back to the present by the clank of plate mail armor. Right time to get going, the others had a good lead.
Loryn lets Robert and Drack take the forward positions of the group and with all of the tall folk, there was not too much for him to see, but that was fine.
