(ooc: Since we are all over the world, I’m going to make the spell timing work as if Players were able to coordinate over the tabletop.) ……………
Hmerrin (so light on his feet that he automatically adjusts for boxes, crates, and a change of direction! [ooc: +14 Acrobatics]) needs a moment, but only a moment as it is time to get moving. He drinks a potion, and moves while pulling out his axes.
Desdichado falls flat on the landing, and thinks the same as Hmerrin as the paladin stands up. He retrieves an Enlarge Potion, but can’t drink yet. [ooc: standing from prone being a standard action]
Ramirez, like Hmerrin, has no problems with keeping his feet, and casts haste all the group!
Danko is graceful as a cat, and lands lightly on his feet, then seeks to block the monster with a trusty Wall of Force! He creates a 40’ long and 30’ high barrier, and though he successfully blocks wall to wall, he doesn’t have enough juice to make it to the 40’ ceiling: there is a 10’ gap!
Gaffer tumbles to the floor, then quickly jumps to his feet. He is thankful for Danko’s Wall of Force and looks about. The druid can see through his darkvision that the floors and walls appear to be of some seamless black stone. The sharp-eyed hero can also see behind the gargantuan skeleton that there is a doorway out the far side of this ‘room’.
Before Danko casts the Wall of Force, Nira casts Living Voodoo, hoping to blind it. She provides information she knows to the group, including the feedback she felt from her spell means it has Spell Resistance! But Nira is stronger, so both the Titzimitl and Nira are blinded for a short time!

Magic sparkling in its eyes, the Titzimitl mantles its wings as it speaks cold, cold words. ”Clever magicians, but you are only delaying the inevitable: time is a luxury I can afford.” Casting a spell of its own (Ramirez and Nira can easily see it is Deeper Darkness), the Titzimitl’s side of the Wall of Force grows absolutely black, not even darkvision penetrating the gloom.

Gaffer sees space for at least one more ally, and casts a summoning spell to bring in a Fire Giant. (ooc: on map, arrives the beginning of next round.
Danko doesn’t need to use his Boots to toss a fireball over the wall, but he doesn’t have “line of effect” to target any space inside the Deeper Darkness. The best he can do is the point 30’ in the air at the Wall of Force (ooc: O/P,9/10 30’ up). Good news is fireball spreads, so a 20’ diameter fireball at that point doesn’t hit any of The Tide, and the Titzimitl is so large… (ooc: DM needs the Reflex DC for Danko’s Fireball, and Danko also needs to roll Spell Penetration to beat SR 30 before DM is able to assess any damage)

Inside the Deeper Darkness, the Titzimitl was obviously able to feel something from Danko’s blast, for the cold, cold voice speaks again. ”Ah, you have trapped yourselves behind the temporary safety of the Force Wall, but allowed an opening to attack. Poor mortal, you will not benefit from my advice: for when the enemy is in range, so are you.” The heroes can hear the flapping of those giagantic wings, and then a clawed hand grips the top of the Wall of Force (at O/P 9), and then…
A glowing beam of force spears out from just above the hand, impaling Desdichado! (Ranged Touch attack, Dez takes 36 force damage AND 36 Fire damage)
Darkvision can’t penetrate the Deeper Darkness, but obviously the Titzimitl has a means to see just fine.

Only noticing the gap in the wall after a few spells have been thrown over, Gaffer takes the opportunity to cast his own spell at the gap, hoping the creature hasn't moved away from the wall, fire bursts out from the ceiling forming a column which strikes to the ground.
He calls out to the Fire Giant, "When the wall disappears, walk forward and attack whatever gets in your way!"

"Remember, it should be blind" (ooc: D’oh!! DM mistake, Desdichado wasn’t hit by the eye beam. No damage. Not even a chance because the monster can’t even target a space.)
Danko feels his fireball affected the Titzimitl, but there was some resistance against the fire. Because the creature exposed itself, there is enough target area for Danko to cast a ray of his own; a Disintegrate spell! He heroically overcomes the monster’s spell resistance, but feels the spell doesn’t fully bite. (Save = only 5d6 damage)
Desdichado reels from the close strike (that missed!), luckily not needing any healing. He asks for any plan modifications.
Hmerrin sends helpfully, "Either Nira dispels it, or swing until you hit something". The fighter is ready to attack.
Gaffer has a plan to remove the darkness, but with a cost. He gives instructions to the Giant (that just appeared) and casts his own spell across the top of the Wall of Force! A column of flame bathes the area wehere the clawed hand holds on. The monster screams.
Ramirez decides to make himself less of one, and casts greater invisibility on himself.
Nira will take the same action again and Death Ward Desdichado.
………………… Inside the Deeper Darkness, the blind Titzimitl pulls its hand away with a hiss. ”Very well, your petty spells tire me.” And the monster casts another spell, a sound, a soul-piercing scream, rises until the very air vibrates in a cone affecting the corner where the Titzimitl last saw the heroes. (Nira and Ramirez immediately recognize it at a Wail of the Banshee).
Gaffer, Danko, Ramirez, Desdichado, and Nira each take 190 damage! A Fort DC29 Save = 0 damage. (This is a Sonic but not a death affect or negative energy affect)
And then the Titzimitl moves back into the Darkvision obscuring Deeper Darkness.

Nira can't see the spell to Identify it, but the shriek she hears leaves little to the imagination. It must be a Wail of the Banshee spell. She has no idea who else in the party may have been targeted by it and cringes as she waits to hear the result.
In terms of the darkness though, she has a Daylight spell prepared but no way to cast it over the wall. The best she can do is just try to dispel it. She picks a spot above the wall and casts it there.

Seeing the creatures arm pull back, Gaffer is unsure if his spell will still reach, and summons a slightly smaller piller of fire, aiming slightly to the side to avoid Des as well.

Desdichado thanks Nira for the spell protection, overcomes the sound blast, and hastily makes his way against the wall of force.
Danko feels the sonic blast but manages to avoids damage, then casts spell resistance on himself.
Gaffer is rocked by the sonic blast but heroically resists. Staggering forward (ooc: DM placed at O9 if that’s OK). The druid suggests plans and then, with the Darkness removed, can strike the Titzimitl with another Flame Strike that the monster can’t avoid.
Hmerrin hears the cacophony, but is outside the spell effect (ooc: no Hero Point needed). He calls for Danko to drop the Wall of Force.
Ramirez grunts and drops to the ground, and the telepathic connection is suddenly very, very silent... (ooc: Ramirez has the Dead Condition.)

Then what?". Nira considers dispelling the wall herself but figures Danko needs to make the decision - not her.
Nira knows that Ram is down, but doesn't know the extent to which he's been hit. In her mind, he's been knocked down and Des is treating the wounds. Unfortunately it wouldn't matter anyway. She doesn't have any magic to bring him back right now.
She starts casting a Greater Immortal Summons spell.

Danko has to levitate to get an aiming point on the Titzimitl, then rapidly casts two spells, but both are negated by the monsters spell resistance.
Desdichado moves to Ramirez and checks for life. The bard is at -78 hit points. Very very dead.
Nira starts casting a spell for more help.
Hmerrin drinks a potion. He’s going to get in melee one way or another!
Gaffer sends a third Flame Strike at the monster, but this time, it gets away from a piece, and it’s fire resistance reduces it still further.
Ramirez doesn’t move, but the bard begins to see sparkles of red. He doesn’t open his eyes, but looking around he still sees the battle going on, but like behind a gray curtain. And sparkly red lights…
………………… The blind Titzimitl, hisses again. It has backed up to the exit tunnel, but makes no other moves or sound. It only randomly paws the air and ground around itself, waiting…

At the beginning of next round, Danko dismisses the Wall of Force. Dismissing a spell is a standard action, so Danko can only make a Move Action this round (unless he wants to use a Hero point…)

Nira shakes her head as she responds to Gaffer. "Sorry Gaffer. We're on a different plane. We can't teleport back to the city and unless someone knows a plane shift spell we might be stuck here a while"
That's when she hears the update from Des. Ram is dead?! She thought he was just down! Nira starts second guessing herself and wondering whether there was anything she could have done to save him. Perhaps he was wounded and she could have cast a heal spell on him instead of remaining blind? She doesn't know the specific circumstances and will need to know after the fight it over.
Nira does have a few spells for controlling undead creatures, but right now keeping it blind is probably more help to the party. She sends her summons after the undead creature. The witchfire flies in close and attacks.
"If anyone's hurt let me know. I've got a few heal spells ready to go". She doesn't want to lose anyone else.

Prepared now against the Titzimitl’s defenses, the heroes pile on: Hmerrin! Desdichado! Danko! Gaffer and friend! And Nira’s Wytchfyre!
The Titzimitl struggles lessen, and it’s confidence erodes. ”No! I am immortal, I can’t. There is no where to go…”. Like the thinnest sheet of paper, it begins to crumple, folding in on itself until it is only a black ball hovering in the air. It is vanquished!
Ramirez moves to the red thread and it expands to be his whole vision. Time and distance cease to have meaning, and nearly everything else. Only two certainties are still in his awareness: the whole of who Ramirez is, and that he’s going to meet Gargul.

Nira gets a Hero Point for sacrificing sight to blind the Titzimitl. That hamstrung the monster more than any other!

Nira drops her blindness spell and can now see Ram's lifeless body. She tries to convince herself there was nothing she could have done to prevent his death, but isn't sure if that's true.
"Unless someone has a way for us to Plane Shift, we're going to have to take care of Ram here and now. I've got a spell I can cast, but the results might be unpredictable. Still, getting Ram back in any way is what we want."
Nira doesn't have a Raise Dead or Resurrection spell, but she does have a Reincarnate spell. That will have to do. The group will have to petition Gargul not only to return Ram, but to return him to his original form.
She sits cross-legged next to his body, closes her eyes, and begins the incantation.

Like the dawn, but from a direction perpendicular to up and down, left and right, back and forward, a light appears. The world brightens, and from the same direction you hear a whistling sound, as of an object falling from a great height. You hear a huge THUMP, and you feel the vibration of something hitting the ground behind you. You turn and see a demon the size of a dwarf, with a body like a turnip, and a nose like a parsnip.
"Oh! My lumbago!" the small demon moans, picking himself up from the ground.
He limps over to the very spot where Titzimitl fell. He looks at the party. He looks at the door. He looks "up" -- for a definition of "up" that indicates the direction from which he fell.
"Is there any particular reason that I could not go through the door?" the demon asks ... rhetorically?
Then he looks at you all again. "Well, this is a fine mess you all have cleaned up. Well done. I'll take it from here."
He leans over and starts sweeping up the dust that was once the greatest undead you have known. The fact that he did not have a broom or a dustpan a second ago does not seem to matter. Also not mattering: that there was no Titzimitl-dust there a second ago either.
He is busy with this chore, but the twinkle in his eye tells you he looks forward to hearing what you have to say, if you have anything to say,

Nira's eyes adjust to the light and the first thing she spots is the little demon. If her reincarnate spell was cast properly (and she's pretty sure it was) then this is likely Gimp the Imp - Gargul's right hand man.
She looks to the others and then back to Gimp. As the person who cast the spell she feels responsible for being the one that has called and disturbed him. She's a little dumbstruck as to how to respond to Gimp and it makes her a bit lost for words. "Um, yeah, sorry about all that. You, uh, want a hand?" She gestures to the broom. She's not very well going to say 'You missed a spot!' after all. The least she can do is help clean up their mess and hopefully get in Gimp's good graces. She knows full well the party are going to have to make a case soon for the return of Ramirez.

Desdichado, Danko, and Gaffer are quiet in the face of the unexpected little demon ... either dumbfounded or merely cautious, both emotions are entirely understandable!
Nira asks the demon if he could use a hand. He bows and says, "Thanks for the offer! Sure, let me know if you see any speck I miss. What a dreadful mess! If there's one thing I can't stand, it's mess."
You somehow have the feeling that he's, well, quoting from something.
"Do be careful! Don't lose any of that stuff. That's concentrated evil!"
If you make a perception check vs DC25, you see a speck. Do you pick it up?
Hmerrin catches on quick to who this is and what is going on. He makes an important request: "help us out with our fallen comrade?"
The demon -- and yes, it is Gimp the Imp, Gargul's minion -- looks at Hmerrin and winks.
"Ah, yes, killed doing the Lord's work I see. Dead? No excuse for laying off work."
His eyes flash, and Ramirez feels a giant TUG. How do you respond to that, fallen hero?

Ramirez accepts the guidance of the demon's tug, and finds himself pulled back into his body, healed to perfect health, with all powers, spells, daily use items, etc, active as if he had just awoken from a solid night's rest. Also spiffied up some: all his clothes are now pure white, and spotless.
"There you go," says Gimp to Ramirez, "no need to trouble the big guy on such an open and shut case. Just sign here."
The creature stows away the evil undead dust and opens a small folder [like the kind in which, in the real world, your restaurant check would arrive] and offers it to the newly raised fellow, with a magic quill of some kind [a ball point, actually].
The small card within reads: "I, Ramirez Zellen, agree and acknowledge that I have chosen freely to be raised from the dead by Gimp the Imp on behalf of his lord, Gargul, God of Life and Death, via expedited means in reward for contributing to the destruction of a Master Undead."
He clearly wants you to sign on the dotted line.

Destiny denied inspires the Lord Gargul to bend his rule and allow a return from death, a privilege only afforded because of that need."
"In other multiverses, ruled by other gods, I hear that a raise is available to anyone with a big enough diamond and a cleric for a pal. Not in the Wold. Lord Gargul is jealous of his rights, and only allows a restoration to life when fate demands a hero's return."
"Even then, my Master is often angered by a hero's death that comes from stupidity or carelessness. For those raises, he demands an accounting in person, and often exacts a price, both from the dead hero and even from his or her friends."

The party, pretty much decide to explore the only obvious way out of the room; especially since they are in an unknown dimension with no way (currently) of getting back to the Wold. Danko finds none of the boxes or barrels are magic. He doesn’t have ‘line of sight’ to see inside the boxes. And he has to stop to catch up with the others…
The Tide walk 30’ of the passage and pass an unseen point where the passageway disappears into a wide wide open space! Ramirez immediately recognizes the red sparkles that are in the air all about them, and the red threads nearby. So does Nira. (Know Planes DC 15). This is a classic description of the Plane of Shadows, the realm between the Wold and the Lands of Rest. The land of Woldsblood!
Behind them, the heroes can’t see the corridor they just came from. They do, however, see a, well, it can really only be described as a tear; like the very air was ripped like a piece of cloth. The heroes instinctually realize that stepping through the “rip” would bring them back to the corridor.
And that isn’t even the most interesting part! For only 30’ feet away are 24 Rakshasa!!! They were walking nonchalantly towards the tear when…
”The Tide!”, one screams out, ”Zebra Zebra Zebra!!”
What “Zebra” is will have to wait, because the heroes have the initiative!!

Gaffer is caught between panic and excitement seeing so many dangerous enemies gathered together.
Hitting all of the goes is one thing, killing them is another.
So he checks the terrain to make sure it won't hold him back, before casting a spell he won't often be able to use.
Stomping heavily on the ground, tremors rock the earth and spread rapidly towards the group of Rakshasa and spreading out far beyond and around them, the ground beneath their feet begins to split.

The heroes can see the 24 Rakshasa are not in one big group, but 4 groups spaced just a little bit apart. (Pardon for this: I sent yesterday’s post before I looked at the battle map I had already set up.)
Hmerrin places himself front and center, draws his halberd, and activates his tattoo.
Desdichado take a step forward as well, and casts Holy Sword.
Gaffer checks the terrain; it isn’t ‘earth’, but there is a definite ‘ground’ and ‘terrain’ so it should work… Stomping heavily on the ground, tremors rock the black ‘ground’, ‘terrain’ splits into fissures, and the ‘quake affects the entire group of Rakshasa! Six fall to the ground, and three are swallowed up by the fissures!
Nira takes a step to the side to clear her ‘field of fire’ and heroically casts three spells! The first is for herself, the second gets two of the groups (A-L) in her cone-shaped burst of Waves of Exhaustion, affecting 11 monsters! The third targets the other two groups (M-X), where they foolishly were within 30’ of each other:
Ramirez casts glitterdust on Rakshasa group 3 (M-R). They are all glittering like Liberace, but only one becomes Blinded.
…………………….. ”Zebra Zebra Zebra!!” The call is a little impaired by the spells cast against the large party of Rakshasa, but they gamely continue their plan.
8 tired Rakshasas (A, D, E, F, G, H, K, L) all begin flying, going straight up 30’
Rakshasa C closes fast with Nira; although exhausted, it is right next to her with a Kukri in hand!
Rakshasa I and J also draw Kukris, and M, Q, and R pull out greatswords. All 5 advance towards Desdichado and Hmerrin cautiously, keeping out of easy one-step-and-full-attack range.
Rakshasa S and X also begin flying, skimming along the ground until they are flanking the heroes, and each casts a Cone of Cold! All heroes are caught in the icy blasts!! Each Hero 2 Reflex Saves at DC 18 for half. Cone 1: 28 damage, Cone 2: 33 damage. (and Rakshasa C was caught in the blast of one cone!)
And Rakshasa P, O, and U turn and sprint (x4 movement) back the way they came. In seconds, they are almost 200’ away from The Tide,
Rakshasas L, N, and T can only stand up from prone.

Nira had been counting on the raks not being able to move during the earthquake, but that didn't turn out as she'd hoped. Darn raks.
She dodges the blasts from the icy spells. "Cone of Cold? That's new" Then she finds herself face-to-face with a rak. She feels momentarily comforted by Hmerrin that he and Des will take out the ones to the sides of the party, but there's still the matter of what to do with this one.
Knowing that pain is imminent, Nira drains some of the Rak's health to fuel her own.
She points out the one flying striaght up (RakQ) "That blind one is trying to fly away!"

Gaffer is hurt but ignores the pain and conjures swathes of flame that only one Rakshasa can dodge!
Danko side steps the cones of cold and unleashes a fireball at the flying group. Setting on a pinpoint in the air, he is able to get all 8 flying Rakshasa! Four dodge, but all of their Spell Resistance is bypassed! The four that can’t dodge are overcome by the combined flames of Gaffer and Danko and fall, turning into Ogre Magi!!
Desdichado swiftly heals himself, then engages Rakshasa I, wounding it.
Hmerrin dodges the brunt of the two cold cones and gives the moving rakas an irritated look. He sends a battle plan to the team and then charges a spellcastster and leaving a mark.
Nira notes Cone of Cold is new from the Rakshasa, and then has to deal with the Rakshasa in front of her. She uses her necromantic abilities to drain some of its health for herself!
Ramirez dodges the cones, casts a defensive spell. Instead of moving, he begins a bardic song and readies his bow.

The Rakshasa’s Zebra Plan doesn’t seem to be working, or is it?
4 tired Rakshasas (A, E, F, L) all hover and start putting more space between them. They each cast a spell, the same spell, and target Danko! Nira and Ramirez can immediately see it is a Charm Monster spell! Danko make 4 Will Saves DC 17 or be Charmed and make no actions to hurt any Rakshasa or Ogre Magi
Rakshasa C and J box Nira in and start cutting. Only C has enough energy to attack… for now, and misses.

When did they ally with the rakshasa?" That would explain the different tactics to what the group had previously seen. Cone of Cold, Greatswords and Flight were things she doesn't remember seeing in previous rak battles. She has more important things to focus on right now.
Things are looking a little cramped and Nira doesn't want to be the meat in this sandwich.
She looks for an opening and then dives for the ground, rolling as she goes. When she gets to the right position she springs to her feet and in one quick motion she turns and sends a lightning bolt down the row of enemy!
With that done she tries to give herself a little room from the raks on the ground.

Danko resists the charm attempts. the Rak whacks him and causes some damage. That really really really annoyed him. He opens his mouth wide and with a low dragon road, a line of lightning shoots out of his mouth.

Nira realizes that Ogre Magi would explain the different tactics. What’s the connection, she has more important things to focus on right now. Diving and rolling; she avoids both flankers, pops up, and blasts a line of ‘rakshasa’ with a Lightning bolt, with only Rakshasa C dodging.
Hmerrin has beefed up his anti-charming defenses, and the enemy don’t seem happy. They are less happy when the fighter steps up and lays “T” into a bloody pulp with only a passing resemblance to an Ogre Mage.
Danko resists the charm attempts, and gets a small hit. But Danko has the blood of dragons in his veins, and a lightning bolt slams through M and N. M dodges, N doesn’t. It doesn’t matter, they are both dead.
Desdichado wonders if any are really rakshasa? He hits, hits, and then all but cuts his opponent in half! The dead Rakshasa I lays at his feet. It is still a Rakshasa!
Gaffer, also wondering, casts a second firestorm. The flames flare like they have a mind of their own, striking rakshasa and leaving The Tide untouched. When they subside… only 2 Rakshasa remain near the heroes! (Rakshasa J and I stay Rakshasa; the others all become Ogre Magi.)
Ramirez only has two targets left. He shoots Rakshasa L who dies and becomes an Ogre Mage …………………..
Rakshasa Q overhears Nira’s exclamation and laughs bitterly. ”Allied? Slaves! We obey or feel such tortures that demons would be envious of the Rakshsa’s ingenuity! Gaffer suspects he could catch up to their fleeing foes as an air elemental but this doesn't seem like a good time to split from the group.

Nira suggests a travel spell to get ahead of the three fleeing rakshasa, if that is what they are. Then she turns her attention to the invisible ‘rakshasa’ and gives an ultimatum.
Gaffer adds to Nira's shout, and readies himself to wildshape into a huge air elemental when they are to give chase.

Danko grins, wanting to give a parting gift, but has to frown because he can’t see any targets. “Q” is invisible and the dragon disciple can’t Perceive the other three: there is no target for him to cast against! (ooc: Perception to see someone is DC 0 +1 per 10’ away + variable depending on other obstacles and factors. Danko needed a Perception check of 50 to see the fleeing rakshasa last round. With a Perception +18 and no roll, the DM determines Danko can’t see them.)

“Q” concludes Nira isn’t kidding. ”OK, OK!!” and immediately begins descending. It takes him a round to get to the ground, and another to dismiss both his alter self to look like an Ogre Mage, and his Invisibility spell. He is still clutching himself in pain and has glitter all over him and in his eyes.
”The Rakshasa can read minds, so it’s no use for a slave to try to deceive them, they will eventually find out. ‘Zebra, Zebra, Zebra’ was for all slaves to delay The Tide while the rakshasa get back to the Den and give the alarm. So if you are really interested in keeping me alive, you gotta let me delay you in exchange for telling you things. I know where the Den is and the super-secret way to get into the Den. I also know what the Rakshasa know about The Tide. I can tell you these things. Can you wait a little?”

Gaffer has no qualms with letting the Ogre speak and he's not convinced they want to take the Rakshasa head on before knowing what they are dealing with.
"If you know how we can get back to our plane, that would be good information too."
Gaffer takes a moment to look at their surroundings a little more, to get a lay of the terrain that those fleeing had ran toward, and looking for any signs of trees that might allow them to travel more quickly through the area.

She is better suited to playing good cop. The others are far better than she is at bad cop.
