Falco doubles down on the need for interracial interaction, and explains why he is so intent on the issue.
Elyas joins the explorers, and is surprised at how many similarities there are between life above and below the waves.
Wil tells Salvas that he struggles with trust as well, but he has found some trustworthy people in the Wold. He asks if gambling is OK here, as he tries to strike up a game of chance. Salvas says gambling is fine as long as things remain civil among the gamblers.
Rolth agrees with Falco, and asks for these merfolk consider saying hi when they are near, and maybe even visit them. He tells Salvas that the Wold is a better place when different peoples interact.
Ayotnom agrees with Falco, but worries about the kelp garden.
Tsak is surprised that such an isolated village can be so welcoming.
**************************
Salvas says he agrees with the Petals, and claims that now that their duty is fulfilled, he plans to go out and see more of the Wold, and creating as many bonds of friendship as possible. He says he will encourage his people to do like wise, and claims he hopes to see you again in the future.
Salvas and Lilly swim you back to the Rose, and make their farewells, and then turn and swim back to their village.
A year passes, and in that time you have been busy working tirelessly to bring the much desired unity to the Islands. As you were working out in the open, the leaders of the taurs were working behind the scenes, thanks to Domi's mirrors, and it has finally come to pass! Sure their is a very small group that hold to the old grudges, but by far and large, the taurish people desire to work together, united as one people.
Trade agreements and treaties have be ratified, and signed, and for the first time since the taurs split into three separate peoples, there is unity. To commemorate this joyous achievement, a new holiday has been created, "Unification Day". It is important to note that the 3 island nations still maintain their sovereignty, but they have vowed to work together for the good of all taurs.
Of course the Petals have been invited to attend as special guests , due to all their hard work that made this celebration even possible.
So that all three nations can have equal standing, it was decided that each year a different island will host the celebration, and it was determined, by lots, that the first annual Unification Day celebration will be held in Chessford, on Liontaur island.
The Petals have arrived a few days early, and are just about to sit down to a meal at the Wanderer's Roost.
(As a year has passed, you can assume that any training or anything else your character was wanting to do, has been done)

Rolth basks in the bonhomie of the Eight Petaled Rose, reflecting on the events of the past few years. How long ago it seems that he, Kiwina, and Sable set out from Bridge Island, determined to do Domis will and begin to reunite taur kind! And add to that the changes wrought by the Warper Sar, including the metamorphosis of our dear friend Falco. Our travels have brought us to strange and interesting lands, and all manner of creatures, good and fell. The normally restless liontaur feels an unusual contentment. He smiles to himself, knowing that this cannot last. For the Eight Petaled Rose are heroes, and heroes need adventure! Surely it will come calling soon!
But enough of this introspection. Rolth claps Mak on the shoulder and announces loudly, "Why Mak, that is most generous of you! Huzzah for Mak, who has offered to buy everyone a round!

Mak had been away for some time and looked forward to reuniting with the petals. Mak had changed. Perhaps not in behavior as that was to be seen, but his appearance was different. He was thinner than before, but it could have been the better fitting armor. His new armor was as black as the blade of his sword with a purple tabard displaying his families crest, that of a black dragon on a yellow field. He still sported his longbow, but when he walked it was with one had upon his sword.
When he spotted Tsak he grinned broadly and grasped the mans hand in a warriors grip. That he'd somehow offered to buy a round didn't phase him. "Make it two then!" he exclaimed to those gathered round.

Wil has accomplished quite a bit in a year. He completed his WLA training.. months and months of training. (Thought of completing up to 11 - not sure if that's appropriate though - let me know. I need to update the sheet) Wil was noticeably more professional in the way he stood and he smiled. With the training, he even got married to a beautiful light brown centaur named Sandi. Another thing to notice is he seemed to talk to himself less. He managed to have a handle on the voices with the help of a medicine man in the area. He sits with the others. "How's it going adventurer group?" he says. "It's been a moment. Sorry, I've been absent. Catch me up?"

Kiwina isn't one to stay in one place too long. Not when there's an ocean. He's been sailing between the islands and exploring the Shipwreck Shoals for the past year -- perhaps on the Rose if the others agreed, perhaps on other vessels. It's not as if three magic mirrors can do everything. People still insist on meeting people, and ships are still needed. As well, there has been occasional need for a justicar here ot there.
Still, it's good to be gathering back with everyone. Kiwina looks the same -- down to the creases on his haversack -- except for the tattoo Rolth put on his left shoulder to match the one he's always had on the right. Oh, and the ioun stone that had been the heart of the sphinx.

Tsak and Esmerelda had spent their time with Kiwina, sailing the Rose, exploring the area and keeping an eye on the Taur Isles. A small step back had seen them talking more than fighting, but they were still a known quantity.
This year sees Tsak a bit more relaxed and windswept, but his interest in the peoples of the Isles and their affairs hasn't diminished. This whole area feels like home now.
Appreciating Rolth's humor he sits down with the rest of the Petals to catch up over a pint or two and some succulent boar.

Rolth enjoys the reprieve, but realizes it can't last forever. He volunteers Mak for buying the first round.
Falco backs up Rolth's play.
Mak has made some changes to his appearance. He is unphased by Rolth's ruse, and offers to by two rounds.
Wil gets caught up on his WLA training, and seems to be a bit of a changed man. (If you can afford all the training, you can go as high as your level.) It seems he has found a way to control the voices in his head, and he found found love.
Kiwina kept busy in the down time, but apart from a couple of new additions, he looks the same.
Ayotnom wonders how long it will take for inter breeding to recreate the unified taur race.
Tsak spent his down time with Kiwina.

During the year Falco did a few things. First and foremost he composed his journal into a more coherent story of the travels of the Petals going all the way back to the tournament. Filling quite a bit of paper he did bind it himself and keeps it in his Haversack. His idea is to continue the journal and have a record when their days of travel come to and end.
He also, with some effort, found a smith that would let him help out a bit practicing his old craft. Not at the level to making anything fine, as he had hope, he decided to continue to craft even if it is not his love. The Wold can always use a new sword here and there.

The Petals all rush to help the youngling, offering food and drink, as they realize he is famished and dehydrated, but the poor lad is unconscious. Luckily, Rolth takes care of that, and the boy dives into the food and drink as though he hadn't eaten or had anything to drink in days. Once he has refreshed those needs, he looks up at the Petals and says, "Thank you that was very kind of you. You wouldn't by chance happen to know where I can find The Eight Petaled Rose? I need them, they are the only ones I can trust."
The lad seems to have some trust issues, possibly brought on by whatever caused him to be in such a state, and it is clear he has no idea who he is talking to at the moment. There is also a hint of desperation in his voice, which is easy to detect.

As the different Petals make their introductions. Mak tries to pinpoint where the lad may be from, but as he is wearing the clothes of a commoner, which is pretty universal throughout the island, it's hard to pin point. The filth he is covered in seems to originate from different locations on Liontaur Island, which makes it appear as if the boy has been searching for a while. Mak, Wil, and Tsak try to determine if anything is off about the lad, but they don't see anything that would cause suspicion.
After the Petals make their introductions, the lad breaths a sigh of relief, and says,
"Thank the gods, I was beginning to think I would never find you. May name is Haltavar, and a few days ago, I was out fishing with some friends and caught a whole stringer of fish. Having plenty of fish for a good meal for my parents, younger sister, and myself I decided to go home. When I approached our home I noticed something odd. The usual sound of the sheep my father raises, was silenced. I had no idea what would have caused the sheep to be silent, but I knew it probably wasnft good, so I carefully approached my home. The first thing I saw was that the whole flock had been killed, with several looking as if they had been half-eaten. Ifm certain that that pool of blood is all that's left of my little sister.h

Ayotnom thinks about what he knows of nature and geography to kind of get an idea about where they are headed and what they might be facing.

Mak prepares he go fetch Elmer, if they are to be traveling overland. He suggests having Ramsey gather the proper charts and meet them there.
Wil sees merit in leaving immediately and waiting until the AM.
Elyas wonders if everyone is ready to depart. and suggests leaving word with Ramsey.
Kiwina figures based on his knowledge of the islands, that actual travel would take about the same either by land or sea. When adding in the time to gather charts and such, Land maybe a wee bit faster.
Falco feels heading out in the morning would be better, and decides to go look for a horse. As it turns out he is able to find one. The liontaur running the stables says they are for when they have non-taur visitors. He offers Haltavar a place to sleep for the night.
Rolth suggests asking the local authorities if they have a clue as to what the threat is. Perhaps there maybe some Hound's Tooth Clan members in town for the celebration. he wants to get going ASAP, hoping to return before the festivities begin.
Tsak is fine leaving now or in the AM
Ayotnom stops to consider the land they will be traveling

The Petals seem far from a consensus as far as leaving is concerned. Falco wants to leave in the AM, while Mak seems to want to go now. Wil and Tsak are open either way and it seems that Rolth wants to take some time to gather some intel. Ayotnom recognizes that since the vast majority of Liontaur island is plains and rolling hills, that is most likely the terrain they will encounter.
As they are discussing their next move, a middle aged liontaur steps up to their table.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but I couldn't help overhear your conversation. I'm a Hound's Tooth, and though I've never been to Frog Hollow, personally, I have heard of it. From what I've heard it's a small village and relatively tight-knit. They have a reputation for taking care of there own, so I wouldn't worry about the lad's future. I don't want to tell you hero types how to do your job, but might I recommend haste! DM Jeremy Thursday October 6th, 2022 10:24:11 AM
Elyas does in fact know an area within a days journey from Frog Hollow, that Haltavar knows and can guide you from. This could cut the travel time in half, if not better, but the question your DM has is, how will Elyas teleport everyone? You have 8 heroes, plus Haltavar, and 3 of the heroes are large, thus counting as 2, so you have to teleport 12 people, essentially. (As a child, Haltavar is still medium sized) The spell allows you to bring along 1 extra person per 3 levels so at 11th level Elyas can teleport 3 people per trip (besides himself), and when he makes 12th level, he will be able to transport 4. He can do it, but at his current level, Elyas would have to prepare and cast Teleport 7 times, or use an equivalent number of scrolls. (1st trip there with 3 people, 2nd trip return, 3rd trip there with 3 persons, 4th trip return, 5th trip there with 3 persons, 6th trip return, and 7th trip there with the final group.)
I'm going to assume you leave by land, unless you know something your DM doesn't. (Feel free to educate me, if I'm missing something, and I will ret-con things accordingly.)
Word is sent to the Rose to retrieve Elmer, and ask Ramsey to begin the search for charts and maps to find Frog Hollow, so as to meet them there ASAP. A short time later Ramsey arrives leading Elmer and he tells everyone he will met them at Frog Hollow just as soon as he can.
You travel all day, with nothing out of the ordinary happening. As evening approaches, you find a small grove of trees, which would provide nice shelter for the night. Do our Intrepid heroes stay for the night or press on, and risk fatigue. If you decide to stop for the night, what is your watch order?

With falco riding along with Mak, the journey was comfortable for the swordsman though he'd taken to riding with a shortbow for this trip. So he was outfitted with the shortbow and sheath with a quiver attached to Elmer's saddle. Also, the new and improved Elmer he'd traded for the surly beast he'd originally purchased on this island was much more well behaved. It was even trained in battle so Mak was confident there would not be a repeat of his past experience on the island. Any possibilities at humor at his expense would come from a different quarter, he just waited on the eventuality as it was coming.
He'd also placed Falco in front of him so that his smaller companion could see.
That night Mak requested either an early watch or the last one since being human he still couldn't see in the dark. He also requested to be paired up with someone who could see in the dark.
Mak suggested Elyas teleport ahead with Rolth to alert the community and then return the next morning.

Elyas discards the teleportation idea with this large of a group, and agrees that overland would be the practical method.

Falco's worries of slowing everyone down are removed by the very nice offer to share the mount. With his hollow bird bones and size it is sure not to stress Elmer. While riding he does ask Mak if he think's it is worth him buying a mount. As a cleric he will not have the many fast travel options he would have had before his transformation by the Waper-sar.
At camp he suggests that he tuck in early and take the last watch, it would be better for his ability to prepare for the day. For the sake of flexibility he plans to keep a couple of spell slots open incase the situation changes.

Rolth also agrees with Elyas that splitting the party so widely is not wise. If we stop to rest, Rolth will take a middle watch.

Mak thought about Falco's request and suggested he consider a large dog as a mount. At thirty pounds Falco shouldn't be too much of a burden for one of the larger breeds. Still however, Mak admitted to the bird man, Fighting from horseback really wasn't his thing so Falco was really no burden at all.
As for Elyas misunderstanding about splitting the party, Mak stressed that the wizard and Rolth would need to teleport back in the morning and continue the journey with the main group. Warning the houndstoth clan seemed important enough that a day on top of the time already passed might be critical.
DM Jeremy Friday October 7th, 2022 11:46:42 AM
Mak finds Elmer 2.0 to be substantially better than the original. and he enjoys having Falco along for the ride. He suggest Elyas blip ahead, maybe with Rolth. He requests either the first or last watch, due to lack of darkvision.
Wil is able to keep the voices in check and makes a watch request, which your DM interprets to be either 1st or last. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Elyas disregards the teleportation option, due to logistics, and agrees overland transport is best. He isn't comfortable with splitting up the party.
Falco appreciates the ride, and asks Mak if he should consider investing in a mount for himself, as clerics have such limited ways to increase their speed. He requests last watch.
Roth asks and is informed that it is a 2 and a half day trip.He assumes that Haltavar spent more time looking for the Petals than that. He to isn't fond of the split the party idea, and offers to take a middle watch.
Kiwina also takes middle watch, and tells Haltavar he need a good nights sleep.
Tsak and Esmerelda take the 3rd watch.
Ayotnom lets everyone know about his need for 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, which makes 1st or last watch the most preferable.
Mak makes some mount suggestions to Falco, but tells him he is welcome with him on Elmer. He explains himself better about the teleport idea.

(OoC... I forgot to mention it is the fall season and the air is a bit chilly at night, but beautiful during the day.)
As you make camp, you realize that it is going to be a chilly night, and so you bank up the campfire, and gather plenty of wood. Of course the light of the fire also offers aid to those on watch, so it's a win-win. Due to the chill in the air, you huddle closely to the fire, for warmth, and find it to be cozy and comfortable, as long as those on watch keep the fire burning.

Mak was alarmed at how quickly the wolves came at them as he stepped back five feet to avoid the worst of it. With a speed aided by the magic Elyas imparted upon them Mak loaded his bow and fired. Two arrows left his bow aimed directly at the ghoulish canine in front of him. He thought they landed and he fired again, this time grabbing but one and loading it quickly. Again he thought the arrow landed a solid hit as he pulled and fired a fourth arrow which he was certain struck deeply in the creature. So fast was he due to the wizards magic he pulled and fired a fifth arrow. The last one went wild, but could have nicked the dread beast. Only time and the results of the battle would tell however as Mak sought to avoid the creatures fangs and claws.

Mak takes a five foot step towards Tsak and takes aim at the wolf that just brought the big man down. Mak's first attack of a pair of arrows strikes the wolf and both pass right through the creature to embed themselves into the ground several feet beyond it. Unfortunately the staggering and dying creature's spasms made it unpredictable enough that Mak's next two arrows missed it. Mak wasn't to be deterred however and sent his last two arrows towards the only standing wolf near the ranger.
Mak knew he only had ten arrows remaining. At his current rate of fire he had but two sets of attacks left before he was out. Swiveling his head about he gauged which of the wolves he should target next.

Mak shrugged his quiver off and immediately returned to his pack to replenish the arrows in it. There might be more out there, he thought. This time he grabbed 5 of the cold iron arrows, so his quiver now held 15 normal arrows and 5 cold iron ones.
"You ok over there Tsak? Is everyone ok?" Mak asked without bothering to wake the sleeping youngling. "This one brings a whole new meaning to cat naps." Mak jested as he made his next suggestion.
"Gentlemen." Mak started. "We should perhaps gather these creatures up and burn them. No doubt they might foster disease if we left them to the wild creatures of the region."
Without waiting Mak put on his gloves and set about dragging the creatures into a pile, and though it seemed unlikely he took a moment to make certain the creatures had no valuables once they were in place by cutting them open to look at their stomach contents.

DM Jeremy Battle Map Friday October 14th, 2022 2:29:41 PM
Elyas is ready for action, but is relieved to see all the dire ghoul wolves dead. He brings up an interesting point about the wolves, and he is pretty sure these creatures were created, due to the extreme rarity of their existence. He thinks a bit and remembers that like other ghouls, dire ghoul wolves can be created by necromancer magic spells such as create undead. Non-good (usually evil) wizards, clerics and some sorcerers can cast these spells.
Mak refills his quiver, than comments on Haltavar's ability to sleep through such an ordeal. He suggests gathering the corpses of the undead wolves and burning them so as to avoid spreading disease, and gets to work doing just that, after making sure Tsak is OK.
Wil decides to examine the corpses before burning them, but isn't able to find any clues as to their origins.
Falco hooks up Ayotnom with some healing, and than asks if anyone else could use some.
Rolth request Falco do a group heal, and he too wonders about the origins of the undead wolves. He asks if they should have a look about to see if there are anymore, either now, or in the daylight, as he listens for anything that may go bump in the night.
Kiwina suggests waiting until dawn as Haltavar seems to need more sleep, and daylight will help, though he isn't thrilled of the possibility of their being more out there.
Ayotnom comments that building his defense disallowed him the opportunity to go on the offense, but the wolves got a chunk of his flesh.
Tsak checks in on his cat, and is relieved to learn than she is fine, than goes over to join in the group heal. Tsak is obviously the worst off in the damage department.

The mystery of the dire wolf ghouls proves to be an enigma our intrepid heroes can't seem to solve. Thankfully, they weren't visited by any more in the night, and in the morning a quick look around and it is clear, to those in the know, that these eight were the only ones, as eight distinct sets of tracks were found. Haltavar rises from his slumber and stretches. he looks around and sees the still smoldering remains of the bonfire that consumed the ghoul wolves corpses. A puzzled look crosses his face as he asks, "Did I miss something?"
The rest of the trip to Frog Hollow is uneventful, and as you enter the small fishing village, you see a large gathering, of what you assume are the villagers in the town square.

Mak napped a bit on Elmer's back as they completed the journey to the fishing village. The late night activities were wearing on him and he was ready for a good nights rest, preferably in a structure with four walls and a door that locked. A jab in the ribs from Falco roused him as they approached the village.
"What? What? I'm awake." Mak said rather unconvincingly as his head swiveled about and he checked the surroundings for signs of Dire Wolves. A foot print here or there perhaps, but not outright tracking. For that he'd have to take a closer look, or use his Tsak attachment.
When they drew up near the villagers Mak kept his feathered friend close and gripped his short bow tightly with one hand out of sight and next to his horse quiver as he ranged wide with the Petals between he and the liontaurs. "Let us be careful." he advised the small cleric quietly. "Remember the Deep. If events turn I'll set you down on the safe side of Elmer so you can use your magic."

DM Mark - "Let us be careful." d6=4 ; Monday October 17th, 2022 5:19:05 PM Mak finds that napping on a moving horse is not very restful. He is wary as the Petals approach a group gathered in the little village, and he shares his concerns with the others. Falco thanks Mak for the ride and gets off the horse to walk with the others. Wil offers to heal the party. Rolth tries to distract the young boy from any awareness of the previous nights fight. He heals the Petals on the walk to the village. He looks to make sure these villagers are not undead. Kiwinas practiced eye notes the direction the ghoulish wolves came from. They seem to have come from the direction the Petals took, perhaps picking up on their scent and following the heroes here. He asks Haltavar if he sees any of the village leaders in the gathered group. Tsak sizes up the gathered villages. He can see they are agitated. All of them seem to have some sort of weapon, though most are merely farm implements such as scythes, bills and pitchforks. Ayotnom wonders if there might be some malign forces directing the recent attacks, and asks if there is some means of shielding the Petals and Haltavar from detection.
As the Petals walk through the village they note the smell of the sea and can see some fish salted and drying on racks. They pass a few villagers that seem a bit startled by the group as they pass.
You go to where young Haltavar directs, toward the home and office of a local magistrate named Froylot, where the agitated crowd has gathered, and you hear several comments.
It was the Sullivan place. I hear theyre all dead, and a lot of cattle too. Near 30 head of cattle I hear. Shame about the Sullivans. Same thing happened to the Haster family. Somethings gotta be done. See, this is what happens without a clan leader. Clan leader? Bah. We dont need a clan leader. What we need is a wall and better weapons. There you go about that wall again. Froylot needs to send word for help! Help. Yer kidding yourself if you think were gonna get help. We need that wall. Hey, aint that the Haster kid? Jeez, I thought they was all dead.
Then a tall liontaur appears at the doorway, and you can see he is old and his face is creased with worry and concern. He tries to mollify the crowd, and some begin to point in your direction. Noticing you, the old man moves with unusual haste to the Petals. His face changes to one of concern and compassion as he sees Haltavar.
The villagers fall silent.
Ah, Haltavar. Thank the gods that you survived.
He turns to the Petals.
My name is Magistrate Froylot, and am I right in identifying you as the Eight Petaled Rose?
After the Petals confirm Froylots assumption, he seems relieved. He says,
It is good that Haltavar found you, and brought you here, for as you can see, we are in a bad way right now. My people need answers, but I have none to give them. Nor do we have the means to track down the killing beasts that seem to be attacking our people. Would you be willing to investigate these horrific acts? So far there have been two incidents, but I fear, without your help, there will be many more.

Tsak gives Wil a quick smile as the healing takes effect. He feels as good as he's ever been.
The ranger is a little bemused that a large group of liontaurs, highly-effective killing machines that they are, would be considering a fence. Given the mood of the mob he keeps his thoughts to himself.

Lots of questions. Magistrate Froylot sighs. Before he can respond, some of the riled up villagers shout their responses.
A ship eh? I didnt see no ship, but it coulda been a ghost ship! They come at night, ya see. Maybe that's where your undead wolves come from. Yeah, I see lights out on the water some nights. After you see the bottom of a bottle, I reckon. You aint seen no lights. Have too! The Hasters and the Sullivans arent far. We can take you there! Survivors? Wasnt no survivors. All dead, all of em and the livestock too. The Petals think the attacks maybe come from the hills! Aye, the hills can be dangerous for sure. The hills have eyes! Bah, if they come from the hills, thered be tracks. Haltavar - poor kid. Strange things? I seen some fauns - goatboys - a while back. They was strange. Theres always strange things happening, but nuthin like this tho. Folk are scared. Cmon, well take you to that Haster place, and then to the Sullivans.
The crowd is stirred up and ready to go. A kindly woman comes over to Haltavar trying to usher him away, but the boy is not having it. NO. THIS WAS MY FAMILY THAT WAS ATTACKED. LEMME GO - IM TAKING THEM THERE!
The crowd is a bit taken aback by the boys insistence as he pulls away from the kindly woman. You think youd likely need to tie him up to keep him here.
Magistrate Froylot raises his hands and pulls his bent frame up to his full height.
ENOUGH! Let the boy go, hes been through enough! We can see to his oversight later.
He continues to the Petals, As you can see, this community is deeply concerned and fear runs high, so even the smallest rumors and sightings become monsters in the night. People are superstitious because of what happened to the previous leader of the Houndstooh Clan and his village, but you Petals know all about that. I dont think these attacks are related to anything that was said here, but who knows?
The boy seems insistent, so perhaps it would be better to let him lead you there than to try to restrain him. May provide some closure as well. I can send some of the villagers with you if you like. Noone has changed anything at these two sites as far as I know, and I imagine the dead are all still there.
I wish we could offer you payment for your services but in truth we are not a wealthy village, and other than free lodging as well as food and drink, we really dont have much to offer.
Magistrate Froylot points to two men and one woman, all holding farm tools like they mean to cut someone down. Yammon, Gavyl, Jetia. You go with them. The rest of you, stay here. We dont need a mob trampling over everything.
Haltavar steps forward, a grim look on his face as he wipes his nose across his sleeve. Cmon, lets go. CMON!

He does not expect that the bodies of any people would have been left for days, so asking might be their best chance to guess what happened.

Mak found nothing as he circled the area so he just listened to everything, including the dyslexic minotaur in their group. He also suffered through the accolades Rolth and the minotaur gave Domi. Domi this Imod that, it was all very tiring. Domi was probably some plant thing that had twisted those two's minds...he'd have to look at them more closely later.
Mak also listened to the villagers, or perhaps they'd have been more appropriately labled kittentaurs. Though he'd said nothing to Tsak they thinked similarly. Here they were on an island with vicious predators and they were cowering in fear because a few of them were killed. He noted that Rolth's question was turned into a fact in the blink of an eye. He also noted that at least one villager noted no tracks.
"Tsak. You hear that?" Mak said from horseback a few feet from the ranger. "No tracks. I told you, didn't I? Flying." he said to remind Tsak he called it as a dragon though he didn't exactly want to say it out loud in a crowd of Kittentaurs.

Elyas is happy to let Haltavar lead. there is no reason to keep the child from having a part in this after everything he has gone through.
However, he thinks, the mere presence of Haltavar is a good indication that they cannot take anything that the villagers say at face value. they insist there were no survivors, yet here we are being led to the attack site by a survivor....

Kiwina thanks the three villagers, and warns that the Petals may be a while in their investigations. He asks if anyone actually saw the bodies. Mak derides the frightened villagers silently, deciding they are mere kittentaurs and unworthy of his respect. He takes exception to Rolths assertion the Petals will help without reward, noting that Mak needs to be able to pay people to wait on him hand and foot. He warns Halvatar to stay near him should there be trouble. Tsak says all he needs is a cat and is glad to have Esmerelda along.
Asked if anyone saw the bodies, several villagers respond, some having been to each farmstead where they saw the poor people and dead sheep and cows. At one point, Jetia will say that the Sulivan farm is much closer to town, but none are willing to challenge the boys determination to go to his familys place first.
As you round a small hillock, a farm comes into view.
As you approach Haltavars home, the smell of death and decay is everywhere. There is a two story house, with the bottom story serving as a small barn and workshop. A corral is adjacent to the house.
However, see no trace of Haltavars family, and only a few dead sheep. There are more bloodied areas scattered about the farm, suggesting many more deaths than the few dead sheep you see. The few sheep there have either been clawed or trampled.
Halvatar is a bit frantic. Where, where are my family? Where are they? They were here! WHERE ARE THEY?!!!
The three villagers that accompanied you look around wide-eyed, not quite sure what to do but clearly frightened.

Mak saw everything the others did, but said nothing as he moved around the compound. Everything he saw confirmed in his mind that they were dealing with a flying creature. That there were no liontaur footprints told him that alive or dead the residents of this home were carried away.
"I think it's safe to say that we are dealing with a flying creature and if that creature is a dragon as I suspect it may very well have some necromantic abilities about it if those wolves are connected to all this. The biggest issue here I think is that none of us have any experience with this type of creature, dragon or otherwise, since none of us recognize the tracks. See." Mak said pointing to one of the sets of tracks. "It looks like it hopped from here to here. Birds hop, dragon's walk. If it's a large bird that would be one boon, I suppose. I'd recommend we keep our eyes on the sky as we move about and be alert for attacks from above."

He circles the area looking for bodies, sheep or anything else. Ayotnom tries to identify the partial footprints, but is not sure. Hed guess they might be reptilian of some sort. A pretty big reptilian thing. Tsak suggests someone keep an eye on Halvatar and not let him get too close. Then the ranger scouts the area, looking for more clues. Esmerelda plods along with him. Wil sees the footprints and wonders about them. He looks for any clues or places to hide. Elyas wonders what sort of animals or creatures could do such a thing. He knows Liontaur isle is plagued by hell hounds, but is not familiar with what else might have been here. Perhaps a large lizard, dinosaur or really big bird from the prints. He sees no sign that a bloodied creature moved away, nor that one might have been dragged somewhere. Falco keeps an eye on the boy and tries to comfort him. Mak says this must be a flying creature, perhaps a dragon with necromantic abilities. He asks Halvatar if he was here during the attack, did he see or hear what happened, or if anyone escaped to die in the house?

Kiwina and Tsak fan out. They find no liontaurs, alive or dead. They do spot a few sheep in the distance, and there are a few dead sheep here and there. Judging from the bloodied dirt, something has clearly removed the liontaur bodies and most of the dead sheep.

Rolth wonders about the lack of footprints leaving the site. He follows Halvatar into the house. Tsak works his way around the area, carefully examining the prints and other clues. Ayotnom asks if there are dinosaurs on the island. Wil follows the others, keeping a sharp eye out. Falco runs after Halvatar, trying to warn the boy about what he may see. Kiwina and Mak have a discussion regarding gods. And plants. And gods that are plants. One might get the impression that Mak does not respect the gods.
Tsaks sharp eye is able to pick out what he thinks must be Halvatars prints in the dirt. They seem to go to the now rotting fish, move around the area a little and then head off in the direction of Frog Hollow where you all just came from. He also notices some other liontaur prints at the edge of the farm. They never seem to enter the central area, and the length of their gait suggests they ran in the direction of Frog Hollow as they left.
The three villagers look at Kiwina. Gavyl says, See, Im were not sure the timing of these attacks. I mean, some folk found this scene, but really it was Halvatar that found it first. But I heard the bodies were here, and now theyre not. The Sullivans? I dunno, but I think this one happened first. I dunno. What do you think did this? Is it still around? Is it coming for the rest of us?
Falco and Rolth run after Halvatar. The runs around the house, calling for his family, but is me with silence. Falco coaxes the boy out. Where did they go? Their bodies are gone. Where did they go?
Once outside he looks at the Petals, tears in his eyes.
You, you all are supposed to be these famous and powerful adventurers. Why cant you do anything? Where did they go? Why cant you bring my family back, and why is whatever killed them still on the loose? WHAT GOOD ARE YOU ANYWAY? He hides his face as he begins to cry.
The three villagers look nervously at the boy and the Petals.
After a few minutes of crying, Haltivar will stand up straight, wipe away his tears and with zero emotion he will say, We should head to the Sullivan Farm. Maybe you will find something there. The child seems distant and resolute. He seems to want to leave, but waits for the rest of you.

Elyas is ready to continue on. Wil asks the villagers if they think some kind of liontaur conflicts could have caused all this, but this just earns him some puzzled looks. He thinks the boys behavior is strange. (Which says something if Wil thinks someone elses behavior is strange.) Mak agrees, and wonders if the boy could have somehow be the cause of all this.
Jetia says, Stop badging the boy about seeking justice and revenge. Dont you think hes been through enough? The other two villagers exchange glances but do not speak up.
Halvatar grumbles a bit as he goes, though he is mostly sullen and silent.
DC 30 Sense Motive check Highlight to display spoiler: {Haltivar seems to have an almost fanatical need to have the Petals, or someone, find the cause of the murders and senseless slaughter of his family and livestock. Perhaps its just grief. }
You all walk for about 2 hours to reach the Sullivan farm. As you approach, make a Perception check:
DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {Everything is too quiet. You dont hear any birds or any other sounds}
DC 30 Highlight to display spoiler: {You hear what sounds like wild animals eating a kill.}
As you round a copse of trees, the farmyard comes into sight. You see 6 huge reptilian creatures feasting on the carcasess of dead cattle. They are either ignoring you or they have not seen you yet.
The three villagers suck in their breath, and one grabs Halvatar motioning for him to be quiet.
DC 17 Knowledge Nature Highlight to display spoiler: {These appear to be allosauruses, a dinosaur/animal, uncommon though not unheard of.}
Here is your map. Note that some squares are difficult terrain, though you are unsure if these huge creatures would be impeded by this.

Kiwina stops as they approach the Sulivan farm. He motions to the villagers to fall back. Maybe the copse of trees can hide them for a bit.
He looks at the reptiles, taking in their general shape and trying to place them. (four legs?, no wings?, etc.). Meanwhile, he readies a charge but does not approach yet. (They are well out of charging distance, unless the nearer ones come running.)

Mak saw them all as soon as they came into view, so he dismounted and brought up his bow and waited for someone to make a move. If that move was made by the creatures he let fly his first two arrows.

Rolth silently notes Haltavars fanatical desire for Justice, and wonders whether he might follow the path that Kiwina has taken. Something that can be addressed later, given that we seem to have stumbled upon a scene of mass murder. His ears prick forward, noting that the scene is strangely devoid of any other creatures than the reptiles feeding, with no other birds or beasts to be heard. He nods to Ayotnom, who has clearly picked up on the same thing. He scans the area carefully, looking to see if there might be signs of any survivors hidden in the area, and joins Kiwina in trying to discern any more details about the appearance of these beasts. He moves quietly to 33-34/C-D to get a better view.

Bringing up the back of the party Tsak is probably the last to see the giant lizards. How did they get here, were they at the last site? They don't look like they fly so why do the tracks appear and disappear? Likely the lizards won't respond to questions, observing their behaviour may answer some. The ranger moves up to hide behind a rock so as to observe the creatures (Perception). He checks wind direction and wonders how good their sense of smell is.

He argued with himself then realized he was doing it in front of everyone and stopped. "I could send an archon over to sneak up on them or we could send the whole army and attack them from here. I'm game for either approach. It would be fun to do a sneak attack." Wil summons a Lantern Archon and waits for it to appear.

Elyas does not notice the sounds of the animals until the other Petals point them out. they approach close enough to see the large lizards. He is surprised, as they are not a very common sight, and there are a lot of them perception = 19, fail know nature = 31, success
they are dinosaurs, called allosauruses. they are not unheard of but still pretty rare. they are big predators, dangerous especially in a pack like this. still, they are only animals, and not likely to be as much of a challenge as things like those Galvos.
Elyas moves up to get a good view
When we are ready I will give us magical speed, then we will see if these beasts can handle lightning strikes!
