Desdichado is agitated, sighs, and resigns himself that ‘Zebra’ worked.

Danko heals himself, and rationalizes that if they can’t have surprise, they should have intel.

Gaffer wants the ‘intel’. He looks around and sees only two features: the black wall with the ‘rip’ where the heroes came from the Titzimitl room, and a featureless black plain that has floating red sparks everywhere and occasional red threads. (Know Planes DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { the red threads are Woldsblood; dangerous to get near and worse to touch. })

Nira waits until the Ogre Mage complies and then dismisses her Pain Strike spell, which removes the Sickened condition. The elf plays ‘good cop’ and listens to what the ogre has to say.

Hmerrin rounds on the ogre magi, questions and implied retribution coming fast, and expecting fast answers.

Ramirez checks for truthfulness, and can tell “Q” isn’t trying to bluff; he’s telling the truth as he sees it.

“Q”’s eyes look shifty for a moment, but it passes in a blink. ”Yes, we know about you and I know that I have already delayed you twice as long by talking to you as 17 Ogre Magi and 3 Rakasha did by fighting. Maybe that’s enough to not get dead.”

“They told us your names, what you look like, how you attack, how you defend. We know that Hmerrin and Danko were most likely to get Charmed, that Danko and Nira are easiest to hit, that Gaffer needs to get Sneak Attacked first, then keep Desdichado and Hmerrin engaged while swarming Nira, Danko, and Ramirez because we need to eliminate your support before the Paladin and Axe Fighter are vulnerable enough to combat directly.”
It is clear “Q” has a lot more specifics he can tell The Tide, if they are willing to listen. In the short, the heroes realize the Rakshasa have been taking careful notes of The Tide’s battle tactics and spreading that information around!

“There are about a dozen Rakshasa in the Den and a number of Ogre Magi slaves, but most of the Ogre Magi were here to pick up the treasure. The Den belongs to Golden Eyes, and her Chief henchman, Okaprl. Neither leader has Green Eyes.”

“The Doorway to the Den looks to be a black rip in the fabric of the Shadowlands. It allows beings to pass with the word “Rakshasa Umr Bhar”
(Linguistics DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { ‘rakshasa forever’ }) for one round.”

“The Den is made of an opaque black substance, but not stone, and is immune to spells that affect dirt, stone, or wood. The lair had 30’ high ceilings and consists of a large open space with several alcoves for sleeping areas, left and right, a special value storage, and a barred prisoner area. The place is very crowded, with “Piles O Stuff” 15’ high and everywhere there are bits of discarded bric-a-brac.”

“This is the Shadowlands, the plane that connects all other planes. I don’t know how to get to your home plane, I have never been there. I came here from the Rakshasa’s Plane as a slave. The entrance to that Plane is in Golden Eyes and Okaprl’s sleeping chamber.”

"As soon as the runners get to speak with Okaprl, the bug-out plan will start: everything through the portal and then destroy the portal."

Desdichado heals up the team at Hmerrin's request (including, presumably, the Ogre Mage). "Oh, they're leaving? Then let's get over there and follow after them. We might be able to strike a huge blow if not too many have gone."

To the Tide he sends, "Who would have thought they know so much about us? Maybe we should talk tactics after we go after this group."

"I can top anyone off with more healing if you need it,"
he adds.

Hmerrin rolls his eyes heavenward.
"Great. We're in a hurry again."

To the group {Can anyone speed us up? Wind walk or something?}

If no one has the ability to move faster, Hmerrin will lead the group at a trot in the direction the others went.
"You too," he tells the ogre magi. "Show us this tear."

To the group Gaffer sends the thoughts, "I don't have any good options for travel here, I planned more around a day in the city."

He falls into a quick step beside Hmerrin and hurries after the escapees. Keeping an eye out for anything showing up ahead of them.

{ I can cast some fly spells. And once there I have some improved invisibility spells. I am however very limited in how many of my higher level spells I can cast. So, hopefully this won't be some long drawn out fight. I do need to figure out how to hide my thoughts from the Raks }

Desdichado heals the team, and is eager to strike before the Rakshasa can disappear once again. “Q” declines any healing. ”If I am not hurt, and the rakshasa find me, they will know you think I helped. And that won’t end well for me.”

Hmerrin rolls his eyes: "Great. We're in a hurry again." Urging a fast means of travel, he brings the Ogre Magi to point out the ‘Tear’.

Gaffer philosophically hopes the Rakshasa won’t have many more chances to know The Tide better.

Danko gives a spell inventory, and follows the others.

With Nira and Ramirez silent, jogging it is.

It is a short jog. The slowest of The Tide is Desdichado. With a move of 20’, a double move is 40’ and he covers 2000’ in 2 minutes [i.e. 20 rounds]. And there, there is a place where two Woldsblood threads pass close to each other and creates a shadowy area between the lights. That is where “Q” the Ogre Magi leads the heroes and points out the “Rip”. ”That’s where it is. After you go through the rip, I should go back to the battle area and pretend I just got over the pain and blindness.”

There doesn’t appear to be any activity.

The heroes have the initiative.

Nira snaps out of her daze and looks over the party. She takes out her newly acquired healing staff and gives Gaffer and Hmerrin a tap with it, and then puts it away.

"Do you think any of your brethren would also help us? Would they be willing to turn against the rakshasa if given the chance?"

He's not excited about letting the ogre magi go, but is less excited about the prospect of dragging him along. "Whatever," he replies.

The fighter activates one of his tattoos.

Hmerrin waits a beat for his team to do whatever it is they want to do, then steps through the tear.

"Ahh, much better, thank you both. If we can spare a few seconds, I'll send something first incase they have set up traps?" Gaffer offers his thanks as all injuries are magically repaired.

Without particularly waiting for a reply, Gaffer begins casting, and once his summon appears, he instructs it to move through the rip and to attack their enemies beyond.

Once the elemental has ran through, Gaffer braces himself and will move in just behind Hmerrin, and he suspects Des who will likely both take the lead.

Nira does some healing and then speaks with “Q”. The Ogre Magi replies, ”Maybe, but not at the Den; there are too many of them and we are far from home. There have always been rumors of a resistance against the Maharaja, but no one wants to even think about it with the Rakshasa able to read minds.”

Hmerrin resigns himself to letting the ogre magi go, activates one of his tattoos, and waits for the team to prepare.

Gaffer conjures and sends in a Large Fire Elemental to spring any traps. (ooc: full round + 1 round for a hero to say the password and allow the elemental to go into the Rip)

Ramirez casts good hope on the group.

Danko takes three rounds to cast three spells. Now he is ready to spank some big magical tiger heads! (ooc: Three rounds and move into the Rip on the third round.)

Desdichado follows right after Hmerrin.

Round 1. Six seconds. Gaffer, Danko, and Hmerrin cast spells. “Q” turns invisible and Nira sees him go back towards the Titzimitl rip.

Round 2. Twelve seconds. Danko casts a spell, Gaffer says “Rakshasa Umr Bhar”, and a Large Fire Elemental moves through the Rip.

Round 3. Eighteen seconds. Danko casts a spell and nods. Ramirez casts a spell. Hmerrin says “Rakshasa Umr Bhar” and goes through the Rip followed closely by Desdichado. Then Gaffer and Ramirez. Then Nira and Danko.

The Tide pushes through the Rip to see “Q” was accurate in his description of the Den: a black surfaced ‘cave’ that looks to be piled with treasures and many alcoves to the left and right. Directly in front of the heroes, 3 Ogre Magi have just demolished a Large Fire Elemental: the tingle of icicles from their Cones of Cold are still in the air.

Behind the Ogre Magi are 6 Rakshasa who look like they have just gotten into defensive positions. One growls sarcastically, ”See? We TOLD you The Tide was here! And the fire elemental proved it! All together now, strike the great axe wielding paladin before he uses his powers!”

And six Rakshasa cast six Scorching Ray spells that cause 18 beams of fire to lick out at Desdichado! Sixteen hit, and Desdichado takes 186 points of fire damage! (9,12,10,13,16,8,15,14,17,18,12,17,14,13,10. In case of any damage reduction)

There's no way Gargul or Gimp would be happy to see the party again so soon. Nira is determined to make sure it doesn't come to that.

"Need you to take a step aside there, Gaffer. I need to get to Des" she calls and steps up behind the paladin. She'd stashed her heal staff away so resorts to the old fashioned way of just casting it herself.

Since they seem to have it in for Des, Nira quickly gives him some added spell protection.

As Desdichado is struck by multiple gouts of fire he feels consciousness slipping away. And then, suddenly, Nira is behind him and he feels a renewed vigor. "Thank you, Nira" he says as he swiftly heals himself (LoH:32) and takes a step forward (I:15). "Now everyone - pick your targets and By Domi let's light these demon-wannabe's up!"

Adrenaline kicks in violently as they are greated by enemies and Des nearly dropping. He steps aside instinctively as Nira pushes past him.

Gaffer regrets, as he often does, not preparing more fire spells, and decides to see if he can round up a few Rakshasa. Winds swirl and rapidly gather in the space before them.

Ramirez casts haste on the group before they start moving out to engage with the enemy, and starts a song of inspiration. As he preps his bow he can't help but think they aren't happy to see the Tide.

The combined rakshasa assault drops Desdichado. The paladin’s axe falls from unresponsive fingers and he drops to the ground in a clatter of armor. (ooc: Des at -3)

Nira steps up behind the prone paladin, heals him, and quickly gives him some added spell protection. (ooc: Des at 147 hit points)

Desdichado did have his consciousness slip away. He wakes only a second later, prone on the ground, with Nira standing over him. It takes a moment to stand up, and another to retrieve his axe. (ooc: Move action and standard action) And then, he is able to swiftly heal himself (ooc: Des at 176) and to extend his Aura of Justice!

Gaffer decides to see if he can round up a few Rakshasa. A Whirlwind spell should do nicely! (ooc: yes, Gaffer takes a standard action to cast the spell, and a move action to direct the Whirlwind). The magical tornado rolls over the six Rakshasa and all but #5 are sucked up into the vortex!

Hmerrin offers a combat quip and moves forward. His intended target is caught in a whirlwind, so he engages R5, striking once.

Multi-Danko casts his shenanigan-beginning Chain Lightning, which also does better than expected against Rakshasa and Ogre Mage. (ooc: only taking the first roll for all attacks) One Rakshasa ignores the blast, and two others dodge, but all the others take strong electrical damage! Rakshasa 5 dies.

Ramirez casts haste on the group and starts a song of inspiration while preparing his bow.

One Rakshasa dead and five sucked up into a Whirlwind, the defenses around the door are significantly weakened. The Tide can see the Rakshasa struggling, but are buffeted about so much to get a spell off, although Rakshasa #4 is able to get out of the whirlwind.

All three Ogre Magi cast Invisibility spells and disappear. (Perception DC 30 to know location)

Nira gives Des a slap on the back and then breathes a sigh of relief.

The invisible ogres can't hide from her though. Nira casts a Glitterdust spell in the direction of two of them and then calls out the others location. "The other ogre is north-east of us by the wall". She pokes Ramirez on the shoulder and then backs away. Being bunched up so tightly just makes the group an easy target.

Nira can see invisible creatures, casts a Glitterdust spell to get two of them, and casts a quickened defensive spell on Ramierez before spreading out.

Multi-Danko casts another spell, and one Fireball flies to the whirlwind, penetrating everyone’s spell resistance! (OOC: Only roll once. DM only took first roll for fireball damage.)

Desdichado charges (ooc: the only way to double move and attack the same round), and slays Rakshasa 4.

Gaffer keeps the whirlwind in place, those inside are slightly buffeted. Another spell brings a Flaming Sphere to roll into the flaming Whirlwind!

Hmerrin decides to drop back and deal with glittery ogre mage O2.

Ramirez, no Rakshasa to shoot at (the whirlwind impervious to arrows), targets Ogre Mage O2 and drops the guard.

The last Ogre Mage, still invisible but seen by Nira, flies further into the den and is lost among the Piles o Loot.

Gaffer can't see beyond the many boxes, but the warning makes him realise they are in a much larger place.

"If the leaders are escaping, we need to hurry." He sends to the others.

He moves forward as per his own comment, keeping an eye on the whirlwind which seems to be holding the Rakshasa ok, and with the barrage of fireballs, he doubts they'll be alive much longer.

As he moves forward, his body shifts and begins to blaze, arriving in step as a flaming elemental, his improved armor stretching and shifting to fit his new form.

Desdichado calls out "There's someone else down this way," as he moves further into the Den. He spots four more Rakshasa, one with a Tiger head, and three with Boar heads!

Multi-Danko continues to focus on the Rakshasa in the Whirlwind. Another fireball and Rakshasa 1 and 3 perish, but Rak 6’s spell resistance makes him immune!

Ramirez moves up to support Desdichado, keeping his bow at the ready and his song loud for all to hear.

Gaffer also can't see, but realizes they are in a larger than anticipated place. He moves forward, worried that the leaders might escape. His body shifts and blazes into a Large Fire Elemental, and he has to be careful with Ramirez right beside him, so he overflows onto one Pile O Stuff, setting boxes and bales ablaze!

Rakshasa 6 is not hurt too bad, he just can’t get out of the Whirlwind!!

The Fireballs and Flaming Sphere in one location, and the Large Fire Elemental in another have set ablaze two piles of treasure: wooden boxes and chests and barrels: rugs and tapestries and cloth bolts: all begin to go up in flames!

Desdichado, Hmerrin, Gaffer, and Ramirez can see there is a corridor leading to a room at I,21

All six heroes can see another alcove around Q,8 but have not had the angle to see if anything is there.

The wounded Ogre Mage makes an appearance, shooting two arrows at Desdichado from a hiding place among Piles O Stuff, missing.

A Tiger-Rakshasa (7) climbs a Pile O Stuff at AC,13 and casts a Scorching Ray against Desdichado that fizzles! ”Desdichado has spell immunity from Scorching Ray!”, it shouts.

A Boar-Rakshasa ducks from around a corner at AD, 17 and fires three Scorching Rays into Hmerrin. “Hmerrin doesn’t!” he snorts joyfully. Two more Boar-Rakshasa run up (AJ,15 and AH,16) and send more Scorching Rays at Hmerrin!! Hmerrin takes 126 fire damage. (17,11,11,10,15,16,14,16,16 in case of any resistance)

A fourth Boar-Rakshasa runs up at AH,12, but can’t get line-of-sight on Hmerrin, and instead sends four Magic Missles towards Desdichado. This also fizzles, which prompts another shout: ”The paladin is immune to Magic Missles, too!’

Ramirez steps forward and returns fire at the Raks. Even with a distance penalty and shooting over Hmerrin, it is not a problem for the Bard. And holy piercing damage bypasses the Rakshasa’s damage resistance like a hot knife through butter!

Desdichado continues his assault, and sends a burst of positive energy to hurt the five evil outsiders in range! Only one manages to partially resist.

Hmerrin is hurt, but he moves to support Desdichado, stabling a Boar-headed Rakshasa.

Multi-Danko, with a shrug, continues to slam poor Rakshasa #4 stuck in the Whirlwind. It is now dead.

Gaffer directs the Whirlwind, moving it towards combat without affecting his allies, and then the Large Fire elemental moves himself.

Nira rushes to get close to Hmerrin.

The wounded Ogre Mage moves and fires another arrow at Desdichado, missing.

A Tiger-Rakshasa (7) moves away a little and casts another three Scorching Rays at Hmerrin, who takes 33 damage.

The boars seem to be of sterner stuff, and all four continue battling.
Boar-Rakshasa #1 moves forward and casts a Haste spell on the four Boar-headed Rakshasa! ”Now, my brothers, we have a challenge!”

Boar-Rakshasa #2 pulls out a great club and slams away at Hmerrin! A strong hit, followed by two misses, and a hasted hit! Hmerrin is rocked for 37 damage!

Boar-Rakshasa #3 advances on Desdichado with a great flail and attacks Desdichado. ”You are not fighting the weak spirits anymore, paladin, but Rakshasa who have been bred to guard and serve! And I will serve your head on a silver platter with fava beans and a nice chianti!”
Desdichado takes 25 damage!

Boar-Rakshasa #4 moves out of Ramirez’ line of sight, pulls a halbard of his own, and slices Desdichado for another 24 damage!

Nira doesn't like to get so close to the action. She's a lot squishier than the rest of the group and she knows it will make her a target - the ogre said as much. Still, she needs to get Hmerrin patched up and the fighter is standing his ground.

She makes for him and it's only thanks to the haste spell that she's able to cover the required ground.

Nira patches up Hmerrin's wounds and then casts a spell to protect him a bit more from those scorching rays. She then braces herself to take a hit.

Desdichado scoffs at the Rakshasa definition of ‘serve’. Switching weapons, the paladin channels more positive energy and swiftly heals himself. Only Boar 3 is fully affected!

Hmerrin sways but doesn't fall. He grins malevolently and swings again!

Gaffer runs forward and directs the Whirlwind, but only Boar 3 is unlucky enough to not elude the wind.

Nira, apprehensively, makes for Hmerrin and patches up his wounds.

Multi-Danko doesn’t have line of sight because of the smoke from the fires, but teleports accurately if a little off (ooc: Nira arrived at AB,16 first, so Danko is at AB15). The bold hero shouts to get the attention on himself.

Ramirez moves up and fires a single shot at Boar 1, but Gaffer’s whirlwind blows the missile off course.

Two piles of treasure continue to burn, and smoke is filling the entrance area of the Den.

The wounded Ogre Mage turns invisible once more, and is out of sight of Nira.

A Tiger-Rakshasa (7) grins. ”No, friend Danko, here is my plaything.”, and four Magic Missles strike at Danko, passing his spell resistance. There are now only 2 Dankos in the battle.

Boar-Rakshasa #1 moves for a better view and also casts Magic Missles at Danko that penetrate his resistance. The last image pops away and three missles hit Danko. Danko takes 8 damage.

Boar-Rakshasa #2 snorts. ”That’s it, Hmerrin, keep standing, keep healing. It will make your death so much sweeter. You will taste well with sweet-and-sour…” The great club spins and slams, getting through the fighter’s guard four times. Hmerrin takes 89 damage! (19,25,21,24)

Boar-Rakshasa #3 is unable to get out of the Whirlwind! ”Weak, simpering definitions, paladin. Rules are made for lesser beings that obey the greater. You will learn soon enough!”

Hmerrin prefers ketchup, and splashes blood across Boar #2 three times, his halberd bypassing damage resistance, which makes the Rakshasa grit its own teeth and grip its great club tighter.

Desdichado swiftly heals again. The battle-banter continues against Boar #3, but the paladin concentrates on the Rakshasa in front of him. It looks really battered, but refuses to drop!

Ramirez continues singing support, and adds some archery to the mix. He targets Boar #1 who is partially hidden from Ramirez by a Pile O Stuff, and the Bard strikes a barrel, then the Rakshasa, and then a chest!

Danko hopes these are the last of them, he’s running out of high level spells! Chain lightning crackles, it fizzles against Boar #3 and Boar #4, Boar #1 dodges, but it devastates the others! The Tiger-headed Rakshasa falls with a crackling burn across its chest.

Gaffer is reassured by the Tide’s ability to bring devastation. Rak 7 is down, but the druid’s fiery form clambers over boxes to make sure it is actually dead. It is now!

Nira casts her last Heal spell on Hmerrin and then draws her staff.

Boar-Rakshasa #1 moves to engage Gaffer with a Bastard Sword made of pure energy. He steps in (ooc: Gaffer get an AOO) then slices hard! ”Now, slave!” Gaffer takes 20 damage

The words are strange until Nira sees the invisible, wounded Ogre Mage spring up behind Gaffer. It appears as its greatsword slides into Gaffer’s fiery form, flatfooted and flanked! Gaffer takes 23 damage

Boar-Rakshasa #2 snorts and spits blood himself. “No, I want your head pickled. Let us see if my great club can turn your buns into a special sauce. You can’t cut the mustard!” Toe to toe, the two titans battle on. Three hits and Hmerrin takes 66 damage! (25, 19,22)

Boar-Rakshasa #3 is unable to get out of the Whirlwind! It stops speaking and is looking frustrated.

Boar-Rakshasa #4 sways but has an enraged glint in its eyes. The halberd continues to chop, and his halberd begins to work against Desdichado, hitting twice more. Desdichado takes 41 damage! (24, 17)

And then… a Circular Blade Barrier, 20 feet high appears, blades of force spinning and slicing into Hmerrin, Desdichado, Gaffer, and Nira!! Danko in the center, and Ramirez on the outside are not hurt, but most of the enemy are cut off with line-of-sight! Hmerrin, Desdichado, Gaffer, and Nira take 42 damage, Reflex DC 23 for half.

Striding forward after casting the Blade Barrier is a large Rakshasa, her (obviously a her!) head an elegant deer-like head with two curved black horns like scimitars arching backwards. ”Welcome to the Den, heroes of the Tide. This day will see your power ebb, the Maharaja will see that Okaprl succeeded where Golda has failed, and I will become the Wold’s Mistress!” She smiles, and her teeth are as pointed as any wolf, and she raises her voice. ”Ambassador! To seal our agreement, have you and your henchmen take these mortals from behind!”

Nira dodges between the blades, and lands safely against the wall. "I'm not sure what agreement they're talking about, but she isn't bluffing" she relays over the link. "Anyone who needs healing should back up to me. We're too spread out for me to get to everyone."

A blade barrier spell is another new attack by the rakshasa. That would mean this one knows more than a few spells and probably powerful ones too. Nira's first step is to remove these whirring blades and stop the party from taking any further damage.

She isn't in a position to heal anyone though, so opts to go on the offensive this time and casts two spells at the one called Okaprl.

Gaffer planned to take his share of the blows and ease the pressure on the others, he did not expect the whirl of blades to appear and shred through him, but he manages to throw himself aside and avoid the worst of the damage and his elemental form reduces it further.

With enemies on either side, but a Rakshasa in charge in the distance, Gaffer does his best to protect himself while casting another spell and just manages to focus. A pointed finger and a flash of green light aimed at Okaprl.

Nira dodges between the blades and dispels the barrier, and attacks Okaprl at the same, Mystic Therugie, time! Okaprl flickers but remains where she is!

Ramirez also casts greater dispel magic, but against Okaprl, and three defensive spells go down under his assault (Detect Scrying, Mage Armor, Protection from Good)! His heroic song continues.

Desidchado swiftly heals himself and continues his attacks on Boar #4, finally laying it low!

Danko fires off a fireball, engulfing Boar #3, who emerges unscathed!

Gaffer does his best to protect himself (thank goodness that his Elemental Body has DR 5/-!!). He casts another spell, just manages to focus, and a flash of green light strikes at Okaprl, but fizzles!

Four piles of treasure burn merrily; the entire entrance is covered in choking smoke. Gaffer is immune, but the Ogre Magi and Rakshasa are scorched.

Boar-Rakshasa #1 spins and slides his Brilliant Energy Bastard Sword against Gaffer, bypassing the druid’s armor and shield bounses! Gaffer takes 84 damage [before DR] (18, 18, 22, 26)

The Ogre Mage turns invisible, and Nira sees it slip out of her sight among Piles o Stuff.

Boar-Rakshasa #3 escapes the Whirlwind and pulls a Flail whose head crackles with black energy. A quick spell and suddenly there are multiples of the Boar! (Mirror Image – 4 images)

Okaprl casts a Chain Lightning spell that strikes each of the heroes, all taking 49 electrical damage. Well, except for Danko: his Spell Resistance makes the spell fizzle against him! (Reflex DC 23 for 24 damage)

A cold, calculating bass croak comes from the obscuring smoke and fires. ”That is a new and fascinating offer, Okaprl of the Rakshasa. We came to speak of possibilities, and the first you provide is the possibility of risk without reward. What is our reward for this risk you offer?”

Okaprl seems angry. ”Ambassador! The ones named Desdichado, Gaffer, and Nira all have pacts with immortals; our agreement includes your collection of their souls as your slaves. They are vulnerable. Take them!”

Gaffer's mind is beginning to fog in pain, he's glad Des has a retort for Okaprl and Hmerrin's aid is timely. He's not sure if he can move away from the Boar Rakshasa without getting hurt worse, and so takes a second attempt at hurting Okaprl. He saved a spell just for this, the runes of his staff dimming, as another ray of light shoots at the Rakshasa.

OOC: Whoops! Good Hope and Inspire Courage do stack in certain areas. Under both effects, a PC will have: +2 to all saves, additional +1 on saves vs charm or fear, +5 to all attack rolls, +5 to damage rolls, +2 on ability and skill checks. Desdichado piles into the conversation between Okaprl and the unknown ‘Ambassador’, swiftly heals himself, and shares Domi’s power with Hmerrin and Danko. He moves and attacks Boar #3 and hits the correct image. waitaminite…

Hmerrin also chimes in, pointing out his view on the balance of risk, and crosses to help Gaffer while avoiding climbing on the burning loot. A massive cut with his holy halberd, and Boar #1 isn’t looking good.

Nira takes the angle of the ogre slaves, which only creates a croaking laugh. She switches weapons to her staff, and steps towards Gaffer.

Danko counts on his luck and casts a lightning bolt at Okapi. (reflex+17 vs 19) 50 dam

Ramirez is unsure of the new opponents, but elects to focus on the Rakshasa. A move and an arrow wounds Boar #1 still further.

Gaffer's is in pain, and is glad for Hmerrin’s aid. He wants to use his staff against Okaprl, but he is a Large Fire Elemental and all his equipment merged with his body. He has no staff to hold even though the druid does have the Natural Spell ability.

Four Piles O Stuff continue to burn and smoke. Boar #1 is scorched and falls into the flames to be consumed.

The Ogre Mage is still invisible and out of Nira’s sight.

Boar-Rakshasa #3 attacks Desdichado with a will, whirling the flail to hit three times and one crit! Desdichado takes 83 damage ( 19 43 21)

Okaprl takes a step back to keep room and casts another Blade Barrier across the Den, cutting off Desdichado from the rest of the Tide. ”I’ am sure that will come down soon, Desdichado, but it should delay your friends until you are dead.”

The cold, calculating bass croak replies from the smoke. “Tempting indeed, but you offer something you do not have, Okaprl of the Rakshasa. I propose a counter offer to you and to you too, mortal Tide Heroes of the Wold. Whichever of you survives, come and meet me at the Entrance of the Den and we will talk. Maybe it will be just talk. Maybe you will be too weak and I take you for my purposes. And the best part of the offer: none of you have any choice.” The croaking laugh echoes again, accompanied by higher-pitched gibbon-like howls of maliciousness.

Okaprl doesn’t respond to the Ambassador.

Desdichado stands near the edge of collapse. He knows he may not make it out of this fight alive, but he's also trying to buy time for his friends. In a moment of stillness he swiftly heals himself and speaks directly to Okaprl. "I may very well die here today," he says, "but if I do, at least I know I've died fighting evil in the service of Domi. Even if I fall, you know my friends here still have the strength to destroy you." He looks squarely into Okaprl's eyes. "But I'm sure your Maharaja will be very proud of your work in your first fight - your rakshasa guards dead and you fleeing away. What tortures have been prepared for Golda? How long until it's your turn?"

He still has strength to attack the boar rakshasa before him, for now.

Flames spew as Gaffer curses his own foolishness. Watching Hmerrin, Des and Ramirez teleport to Des' aid he is gratified to have such a reliable party.

He moves down from the burning pile on he had been fighting upon, and once safely out of the flames, turns back to a regular, if badly injured, human, joints cracking as he stretches and keeps an eye on the smoke behind them while watching the fight infront.

Desdichado stands near the edge of collapse and gives his own eulogy before continuing to battle the Boar Rakshasa in front of him. His three strikes affect three of the Boar’s images that wink out.

Ramirez moves up to Danko and Hmerrin and casts a DimDoor! The Bard arrives at AJ12, which puts Danko at AI13 and Hmerrin at AK11 (ooc: same relative location to Ramirez).

Hmerrin calls crazy voice not attacking a win, and accepts the Bard’s blink. Huh. He is a little out of position, and can’t full attack on the Boar-Rakshasa, but he can flank and strike once, hitting flesh and not the last Mirror Image!

Gaffer moves off the burning pile and morphs to a badly injured human.

Danko dimension doors with Ramirez and Hmerrin. Surprise! And tries his own version of ‘new tactics’, piling on the Boar-Rakshasa. The second ray *pops* the last Mirror Image.

Nira can reach Gaffer and patches up the no longer badly injured human.

The Ogre Mage (Nira Perception DC 35, Gaffer Perception DC 55 Highlight to display spoiler: { working its way stealthily among the Piles O Stuff and through the concealing smoke at X11/Y12) }.

Boar-Rakshasa #3 howls in glee. ”Desperately wounded and not backing down, you would almost make a companion if you were Rakshasa! I’ll take you both on!’ It takes three hits and a miss, but the Boar leaves Desdichado on the floor and turns to Hmerrin with a grin. Desdichado takes 62 damage ( 17, 22, 20)

Okaprl grins at the DimDoor. ”I will report the new spell to the Maharaja. But separate, you are not as much of a threat. And you are running out of spells, while I am just getting started! I think the Maharaja will appreciate the tactics of letting you exhaust yourselves before the kill. Sometimes, Danko, it is better for a Sorcerer to NOT cast a spell. Ramirez did his Dim Door thing.

Nira readied a counter spell.

Danko casts Lightning that affects Okaprl who can’t dodge in time, but misses due to the Displacement spell!

Gaffer casts Finger of Death that fizzles before it hits the Rakshasa. He notes the walls, floor, and ceiling of the room is as the Ogre Mage described outside of the Titzimitl’s Lair: it is a substance not of any Woldly materiel. The druid is certain spells specific to stone, earth, metal, or wood will have no effect…

Desdichado strikes four times, but only hits twice due to the Discplacement, and the Stoneskin spell deflected even more!

Hmerrin exclaims, and follows Dez' lead, launching a series of attacks. Of his five attacks, only two actually hit Okaprl, and for less than expected damage too.

Okaprl tries to cast a spell defensively, and it fizzles which brings a glare towards NIra. The Rakshasa then… bolts! She runs through the heroes and towards the Blade Barrier: back towards the opening of the Den!! ”Fine, you still have enough, but only barely, our next fight will not go your way!’

The heroes can see they are in a large space, but more private despite the room. A huge pile of pillows, walls in tapestries, and eating or drinking containers are about the room: all obviously of the rarest and most expensive items throughout the Wold. The back of the room has a large, magical picture of a large tawny lion-headed Rakshasa with green eyes, resplendent robes, and dripping in jewelry.

As Okaprl runs past, Hmerrin and Desdichado take a stab and draw some blood beyond the Stoneshape spell. Dispite the Displacement, both Hmerrin and Dez get solid hits.

Desdichado reminds escape is necessary for there to be a ‘next time’ and bull rushes at Okaprl, knocking her 10’ into the Blade Barrier!

Hmerrin pursues in step with Dez and since Okaprl is large, still sticks out of the Blade Barrier. He swings again, and strikes again!

Ramirez is certain Okaprl wants to dive through the wall to escape. She is still visible, and he fires arrows while singing, but both are Displaced away.

Danko casts wall of flame from his staff on top of Okaprl, and just before the Blade Barrier. It sizzles for more damage.

But it is Gaffer and Nira who really put the sorcerous Okaprl down. A look of horror comes over Okaprl’s face then slides to insensibility as she polymorphs into a pig! (failed Fort and Will saves!) And then, failing again, this little piggy begins to suffocate. And the Blade Barrier and Wall of Fire do the rest.

The smell of frying bacon wafts about the room.

NIra wants to clear smoke, but there is no smoke on this side of the Blade Barrier and she has no line-of-sight for the other side. Her spell remains uncast.

Nira casts a Greater Dispel Magic, and the Blade Barrier and Whirlwind behind it comes to an end. Some smoke starts wafting, but not as much as expected, and mostly towards the ceiling.

Gaffer has had enough of ambushes. A thought hits the druid that the ‘Ambassador’ didn’t actually say what their plan was, only that attacking the weakened winner was a possible course of action…

Desdichado hears the others too. He passes on the deal, too much like a demon, to which he receives laughter. Why not just talk from where we both are?

The Dankos shrug, they’ll go see the Ambassador on their own, they say. They hate waiting, but they only talk about doing something…

Hmerrin agrees with Dez, but if Nira and Danko are full set, Hmerrin goes with. Neither NIra nor Danko have actually moved forward yet. (ooc: DM can’t make a PC take an action)

The heroes are standing in Okaprl’s boudoir, and among everything that they have come to associate with that term. Smoke is wafting in, but only in the top 15’ of the room. While the heroes can smell the burned piles o stuff, the smoke is not impeding sight from floor to 15’ up.

Beyond where the Blade Barrier used to be, is the large Piles O Stuff room and the several alcoves. There is no light or sound from any of the fires that you left here a minute ago, and the strange, black floor is very wet. The Tide can’t see any movement: the croaking ‘Ambassador’ and his two wet-sounding flunkies must be behind a Pile or in an alcove where the heroes can’t see yet.

”Clever boy,” comes the deep voice, ”but not all-knowing or remembering. I had to remove the fires to support an earlier agreement, otherwise you would not have the opportunity the Maharaja wants you to have. And I want what the Maharaja offered to me, so I choose to keep this bargain.”

“I can also tell you things about the Maharaja, things you have asked, and other things you want to know. I and my kin never forget, ever. But I do nothing for nothing, and it amuses me to watch you stumble about, not knowing.”


It seems obvious to The Tide that the ‘Ambassador’ is not going to seek them out, nor give away information for free: well, other than what he has agreed to in his bargain with the Maharaja. What happens next is to the initiative of the heroes.

Desdichado casts MCvE on the group, picks up his axe. Hmerrin stows his halberd, and Gaffer becomes a Large Earth Elemental. All six heroes leave Okaprl’s boudoir, and retrace their steps into the first-room-with-alcoves.

Ramirez begins a standard bargaining tactic; make the other side draw the first line. And the Paladin goes for the direct question.

In the first room, sitting on the first burned and wet pile o stuff, is a Medium, toad-headed humanoid. Its body is bloated and swollen, with folds of obsidian skin hanging down beneath two immensebat wings. Two muscular,frog-headed humanoids attend the bloated creature. They have tattered, slimy flesh hanging from their own bat-like wings. Drops of the slime are hitting the burned pile with a hiss and a bit of acrid smoke.

The bloated creature pinches his nose in distaste as the heroes emerge to the room. The frog-headed attendants hiss in obvious hatred before a wave of the obsidian wings make them desist. ”I am not here to fight, the bloated one croaks in the voice of the ‘Ambassador’, ”but seeing not one but three god-touched mortals and not shredding your flesh in eternal torment is hard… very hard. If next we meet under other circumstances, my hatred… But no, the message.”

The Ambassador tosses a human femur onto the floor. The heroes can see it is carved and hollowed like a scroll case. [b]”My bargain is done, and you have shown you do not want to bargain. We will leave.”
The creatures begin moving off the back side of the Pile O Stuff.

Hmerrin wants to be flippant, but even more to keep the froggies going in the right direction… away. Nira gives them a name: Demodands! The other heroes have similar responses and varying degrees of ickiness when thinking about the Demodands.

Not hindered, the three keep Piles o Stuff between them and The Tide as much as possible, and the heroes can see they depart through the ‘rip’ that is the entrance of the Den.

Once they are gone, Hmerrin bends down and picks up the “case”. It opens easily. Inside, a roll of Vellum with ink the color of dried blood. (best not to think what type of ‘prepared animal skin’ was used..)

Dewan Okaprl or The Tide;
If you are reading this, one of you has destroyed the other.

Know that We are displeased with the efforts of Our Vizier, Golden Eyes, and her continued failures in the Plane of the Wold.

We therefore propose a bargain. Slay Us the fallen Golden Eyes within one hour of opening this scroll.
If Golden Eyes slays you, she is redeemed.
If Okaprl slays Golden Eyes, she is the new Vizier of Wold.
If The Tide slays Golden Eyes, We will remove all current Rakshasa operations in the Wold.

Golden Eyes is currently at the Great Library in the extra-dimensional room owned by “Guild Company Limited”! In one hour of opening this scroll, We will open a Gate to allow Golden Eyes to escape. If anyone other than Okaprl or The Tide enter the room, We will open a Gate.

The Rip entrance to the Den will transport you to Plateau City. You have one hour.

Nira replays what she understands needs to happen

"We return to that rip that we saw earlier and it will teleport us to somewhere in Plateau City. From there we need to make it to the Great Library and find an extra-dimensional room owner by 'Guild Company Limited', and we've only got one hour to get there before we lose the chance."

She isn't pleased at all. "Just so we're clear, we're going to trust the word of someone associated with all the rakshasa in the Wold and who puts notes inside human bones"

She's very concerned as well about the group's firepower. They've had a lot of battles today and resources are growing scarce. If Golden Eyes has more protection than Okaprl, things likely won't end well.

"How about we quickly grab some handfuls of loot, get to that rip, get back to Plateau City, teleport to the Catacombs entrance in Plateau City, run in and grab some potions and scrolls, and then make for the library?" She isn't sure if they'll have time for all that, but getting a few scrolls might make the difference in what sounds like the final battle.

If we pass, then we also lose the part of the deal where they remove all Rakshasa activity from the Wold. I think we have to try.

We know where Guild Company Limited is located, the adventuring group we met in Plateau City told us about it.

And the note doesn't mention letting Golden Eyes know we're coming. We may have some chance to surprise (her?).

I vote we scrounge here for anything useful looking and then go.

Danko wants to ‘pass’ on the opportunity.

Nira makes sure everyone is clear that they are going to trust this information is good.

Ramirez and Gaffer think they have to take the chance.

Hmerrin and Desdichado wonder if they can even get to Golden Eyes in an hour. They put their heads together and figure if the Den Entrance is keyed in on Plateau City, they would be able to get to the Great Library from anywhere in the city if they hustle. After all, the Great Library was just across the Square from Bill Factor’s Warehouse which was near center of the city.

Nira’s Arcane Sight can see all the Boar-headed rakshasa’s weapons are magical, and a ring worn by Okaprl. There is a pile of very rare gems the party can quickly stuff in pockets, too.

"Once we're at the library I think we can hire a guide for 50gp to take us to the room. That will be quicker than searching for it ourselves." Nira lets the group know "And the Catacombs is only about 15mins away fromt he library."

"How about this.. We spend the next minute grabbing everything we can. We then hustle for the rip and make a quick stop via the Catacombs. Getting some scrolls will help those of us running low on spells. We then make for the library, pay 50gp to the guide and get them to take us to the room"

She waits to hear feedback on the idea while grabbing Okaprl's ring. Nira also points out the magic weapons.

Nira lays out a solid plan, all that's left is to follow it. Gaffer picks a direction they haven't explored yet and runs off to look for a minute.

"We've seen how much suffering they cause, I don't think we can pass up an opportunity to stop them, even if it is suicide. Besides, why do we have all this gold if not to spend it." Gaffer plans what he will buy for the fight as he looks around.

Four of six heroes agree to Nira’s plan and make a dash around the very large Den as Nira takes Okaprl’s ring.

In a minute, that all gather at the ‘Rip’ with loot: what loot highly depends on what each hero looks for and how they are going to carry it while still being able to move…

There are chests of coins, and gems, and scrolls, and spices. There are barrels filled with Gnomish, and china, and cutlery. There are bars of ebony, ivory, rare wood, mithril, and adamantite. There are bolts of silk, rolls of carpeting, and folded tapestries. There are piles of statues, candelabra, and Knick-knacks of all shapes…

"Not the one you're thinking, of, unfortunately," replies Desdichado. "And minimal healing as well. If anyone with a pericing weapon sticks close to me though, I can help you overcome the rakshasa natural defenses against weapons."

"Do we have a strategy here other than out typical 'hit or fry them hntil dead'? Seems like they've all been vriefed on our past fights."

Gaffer focuses on scrolls and gems, pushing as many as he can to fill his own bags before joining the filling of any open Haversacks.

"I've got one large area spell that's best against undead, a polymorph and a mix of summoning spells. Don't think I'll add much on the tactics front." Gaffer talks while he works. "Though if we can hit the catacombs, I can get scrolls for a few higher level spells again."
