Ayotnom asks, "Do we know if Grovas's sister is also one of those dragons that can use multiple types of breathe weapons or is she some kind of normal type of dragon?"
Tsak too enters the cave and spreads out. He moves slowly and uses his experience in underground settings to stay hidden (Stealth) even as he moves out of cover. He angles to get a clean attack at the dragon from a flank so he can cause as much damage as possible.

Falco adds electricity protection to his arsenal, and makes a comment about Grovas.
Mak presents himself and taunts Grovas.
Elyas wants to give Grovas and Ledra a fight to remember, as he casts Haste on his friends.
Wil feels it's time to get the party started, and launches the first attack, as he summons a spiritual weapon. However the force crossbow bolt goes wide.
Kiwina mocks Grovas, as he prepares his weapons.
Rolth begins raging and singing, as he enters Grovas's chamber.
Ayotnom asks if anyone knows if Ledra can use multiple breath weapons as well.
Tsak tries to sneak into the room.
***********************************
As Wil, Tsak, Rolth, and Mak enter the chamber, they see that the room is roughly 100ft X 100ft with a 40ft ceiling. they see 2 almost identical huge dragons. Even though they are very similar in appearance, there are slight differences, and you can see that one is clearly the one that carried Haltavar away, and the other one opens his mouth and says, in Grovas's voice "Your not fooling anyone half-orc, we see you! So you claim you're ready for fire Mak, how about this!" With that, Grovas opens his mouth and a long stream of acid fires out of his mouth heading straight for Mak. Mak takes 47 damage. (DC 22 reflex save for half)
Ledra stares ahead not sure what to do. You easily surmise that Ledra was trying to get Grovas away from Frog Hollow, so she could try to talk some sense to him. With that failure, she now seems a bit shocked to find herself in combat. Everyone must all make a DC 19 will save or be shaken for 16 rounds, as Grovas activates his frightful presence aura.

Falco is a bit shaken but manages to drop a flame strike on Grovas. the dragon doesn't seem to take any damage from the flame portion of the spell, and somehow manages to escape half of the divine damage.
Elyas is also shaken up a bit, but begins summoning some back up.
Mak brushes off the fear aura, and half the acid damage He charges Grovas taunting him in the process, landing a crit for good measure. Grovas is most definitely evil, but you don't know about Ledra yet.
Rolth brushes off the fear aura. He appeals to Ledra, asking her to assist in subduing Grovas, as he charges her brother. He lands one morning star blow, confirms a crit on his bite, and lands both rakes.
Ayotnom casts shield on himself, as he moves forward.
Tsak moves forward and fires an arrow at Grovas, finding a weak spot in the beast's armor like scales.
Kiwina moves into the room and addresses Ledra.
Wil fires his force crossbow and summons a second one. He misses with the first bolt, but sticks the second, failing to crit.
Grovas howls in pain at the onslaught he has received. He takes a 5ft step back and belches out a 50ft cone of cold. Rolth Mak and Kiwina all take 58 damage (DC 22 reflex for half) Tsak sees and feels the cold approaching, but the cone peters out just before hitting him.
Ledra is obviously torn. You see her looking back and forth between her beloved brother and the Petals. It is clear she is considering Rolth's words, but finally she appears to steel herself, as she moves herself into position and belches out a 50ft cone of acid. Rolth dodges the worst of the cold. then watches the dire tiger and Mak utterly ruin Grovas. With frost rimed hair and reddened skin from the acid, Mak turned to look at Ledra in the moments of Grovas' death. He could have said many things to Grovas' sister, but in the wake of the dragons death all he could do was stand and breathe while others pleaded with the remaining dragon. Ayotnom takes to the sky.
Wil turns his spiritual weapons on Ledra and opens fire hitting once
Mak waits to see Ledra's reaction.
Rolth tells Wil to hold, giving Ledra time to think.
*******************************
Grovas doesn't just collapse when he dies. Instead his whole body thrashes around and trembles violently, much like when you remove the head from a bird. Of course when a creature of Grovas's size thrashes about in a death throw, things can get dangerous. Mak, Kiwana, Rolth and Elyas's dire tiger must all make a DC 22 reflex save or be trampled for 27 damage, and be pinned between his body and the ground, as the thrashing comes to a halt. A successful save negates.
When Grovas falls, Ledra lets out a blood chilling scream, "Nooooooooooooo." Than in a much more somber and obviously grief stricken tone she says, "I tried to warn you brother, why couldn't you see the wisdom in my words? Why didn't you listen to father? Now you are gone and for what?" You can clearly see tears in her eyes. Without addressing the Petals, Ledra produces a scroll, reads it, and than disappears. Elyas' Dire Tiger jumps nimbly out of the way, probing the body of Grovas to make sure it is dead. Elyas recalls it before it starts to eat the body. [Reflex save = 31, pass]
Elyas just shakes his head sadly as the second dragon cries out. It didn't have to go this way. Elyas is at least glad that the petals didn't unleash their fury on Ledra before she was able to leave.
[auto-pass the spellcraft roll with a +20 modifier] She's gone, teleported out. Somehow I doubt that is the last we will hear of her though... we gave her the option of leaving, but we also killed her brother, and her father was also killed by a group like ours. that kind of thing can be a seed for worse violence in the future.
Once the body is done thrashing, Elyas will examine it with Detect Magic active to look for anything worth taking.

Well this is the second time, in my career as a DM, that I planned a beautiful dragon battle, fully expecting it to be an epic fight, possibly with some loss of life on the hero's side, only to have it end even before the whole party can get involved. BTW Ledra's teleportation was planned in the module. not that it would have mattered much, since you would have just given her the same treatment you did Grovas. Note to self, give dragons way more HP in the future!
Elyas realizes that Ledra used teleportation magic, as his tiger friend jumps free from the thrashing Grovas. He is glad that she got away but worries that they may see her again, what with the death of her brother and all. He mentions the death of her father Vurm, but then remembers from Froylot's research, that the Tree Wardens showed mercy to Vurm and that he is still alive, with a changed heart, that he tried to share with his kids.
Mak wasn't paying attention, and got pinned by Grovas's body. He asks for help.
Falco channles energy, and lamants that he couldn't heal Grovas. He would have liked to give the dragon a second chance.
Rolth jumps out of the way of the thrashing dragon, and than begins to search the cave.

With Mak freed, I will assume that Kiwina was given help as well. The searching of the cavern begins. Grovas has nothing on him that pings the on the magic radar, however the back wall pings some auras. at first glance, the back wall of the cave appears normal, which if not for the magic pinging, you probably would have completely ignored. However, due to the prompting of the detect magic, a second look is undertook, and Rolth spots something. A large rock, approximately 10ft by 10ft by 10ft, seems to be loose. Pushing it out of the way reveals a second smaller chamber, measuring roughly 20ft by 20ft with a 10 ft ceiling, with an entrance a large-sized creature would have to squeeze through. Inside the newly discovered chamber you find a small pile of valuables piled up in the middle of the room. In the pile you find a medium-sized short sword with a dull grey blade, a small-sized rapier, a super fancy and light suit of medium-sized chainmail, a circle of cloth, a large iron barrel, big enough to hold two medium-sized individuals, 18,000 gp worth of rubies, and 4000 gp in a chest. And don't forget you have a beautiful rainbow colored dragon hide, from a huge-sized dragon, available to you. if you chose to make armor from the hide, you can choose which energy type you wish to gain protection from. Mak thanked those that helped to pull the dragon off him and then moved to assist Kiwina as well. Each time a healing wave washed over him he paused a moment to relish in the painful sensation of his injuries fading. When they found the 10 x 10 x 10 rock and then managed to move it he was astounded that combined they had enough strength to push it aside.
"Maybe it was greased up." he commented to no one in particular.
When the treasure was revealed however Mak whistled and started to think about the others. He instantly thought of Falco when he saw the small rapier, As for the shortsword, though Mak was quite proficient from his time in the army, he couldn't see himself using anything other than his family blade in a hand to hand fight. He was intrigued by the chainmail, especially because it was so light, but he had a set. Perhaps Tsak would take an interest in it. If not, it being a complete set of mail would offer him more protection than his chain shirt. The cloth and barrel were interesting as well, but only due to whatever reasoning made the dragon retain those items.
Mak leaned against the wall and sheathed his sword as he gently prodded the many places on his body that had sustained injuries. He took a glancing blow to the head from the cold attack, but the first round of healing had cleared that right up. What was left were the bruises and acid burns. He'd have to see about those later. For now nothing seemed broken.
"Falco, this small blade might work for you. We should make sure none of this is cursed though. I've heard dragons sometimes lace their lairs with cursed items to discourage thieves." Mak said between shallow gasps as his muscles started to seize up as he stretched the bruises on his body.
"I need to keep moving." Mak said as he started for the exit. "I'll be outside."
With bow in hand Mak headed for the exit. "I might use one of these potions too. That dragon was a tough character. If I never fight another it'll be too soon."

Elyas manages to identify the sword (Sword of Subtlety), the chainmail (Celestial Armor), and the cloth circle (portable hole). the others escape him at the moment, but if the party can't identify them now he will try again with magical aide tomorrow.

I suppose we should return and inform everyone about what happened here. Do we tell them that Haltavar was the dragon, or do we tell them that Haltavar is dead? both are true, but I wonder if telling them that the boy was really the scary dragon will cause distrust in the community... some things may be best left unsaid.

"I suppose these must have come from past victims."
DM Jeremy Battle Map Friday January 20th, 2023 11:52:27 AM
Mak has no idea of the magical properties of the items, but has some suggestions as to who could best utilize them.
Elyas is able to identify the short sword as a Sword of Subtlety, the chainmail as Celestrial Armor, and the cloth circle as a Portable Hole, but struggles with the rest. maybe with a day to think about he may be able to identify the rapier or barrel. he suggests heading back to Frog Hollow, and giving the people the 411, though he suggests not mentioning that Haltavar was Grovas.
Falco hands out more healing, and tells everyone to see him if they need more.
Wil also hands out some healing, as he wonders where his archon friend maybe. he thinks the Portable Hole is pretty cool.
Rolth has a bad feeling and quickly opens the Portable Hole. He is relieved to find no hostages inside, but he does see a sizable leather bound tome at the bottom of the hole. He is able to identify the barrel as an Apperatus of the Crab, but the rapier still alludes our heroes.
Tsak wonders if the Celestial Armor is better than his breastplate, as he enjoys the healing his friends hand out. He likes the look of the short sword, but a Sword of Subtlety isn't a great ranger weapon. The Apparatus of the Crab intrigues him. He thinks Dragons have cool stuff.
Ayotnom identifies the rapier as a Rapier of Puncturing. He checks the inside of the Apparatus of the Crab for hostages, and then begins searching the perimeter for any other secret doors.
Kiwina considers the Celestrial Armor, which won't fit him, and worries that Dragon Scale Armor may hamper his movement. Of course pretty much any kind of armor can be made from dragon scales. A Dragon Scale Chainshirt would still be a chainshirt, for example.

Any further searching of the cavern proves futile, and you are forced to conclude that any hope of finding living children was but a fleeting one, now proven false.
I'm going to assume that the tome at the bottom of the Portable Hole will be retrieved and examined. BTW the Apparatus of the Crab should just fit inside the Portable Hole.
The tome, as stated above, is a leather bound book with a rune no one within the party has ever seen the likes of before. A close examination (DC 15 Knowledge Nature) of the leather revels something shocking Highlight to display spoiler: { it is bound in human skin!} The book pings a light aura and after flipping through the pages a bit, you can make a DC 20 Knowledge Religion, or Knowledge Arcane check to revel Highlight to display spoiler: {this book seems to contain many incantations and rituals involving the creation of undead creatures.} The book seems to have some important, but hidden meaning, especially when you find the page talking about creating dire wolf ghouls, much like the ones you encountered on the way to Frog Hollow. DM Mark - ""Warper-sar! That book is bound in human skin. That is really unpleasant." Monday January 23rd, 2023 5:40:15 PM Falco is horrified to learn the book on necromancy is covered in human skin. Mak goes outside the cave and tries whatever liquid the Wyvarans were drinking when the Petals arrived. Elyas examines the book. Wil heals everyone. He comments on the portable hole, and expresses interest in the Celestial Armor. He wonders aloud what the Petals will tell the liontaurs about Halvatar. Rolth casts Comprehend Languages and looks at the arcane s Tsak wants to climb inside the strange barrel contraption and take it for a spin. Kiwina Thinks the book should be burned. He wonders if perhaps the body of Grovas could be put in the Portable Hole. He suggests scouring the island for more information or perhaps survivors. Ayotnom wonders if perhaps Grovas turned children into undead.
Outside, Mak determines the barrel is full of ale. He samples some, and finds that the ale is a bit sour. He’s not sure if this is a particular style or if it’s a bit old and has soured a bit. But what is more interesting is that he finds the two tankards the Wyvarans were drinking from have something inside. Affixed inside the lip of each tankard are two vials, but the vials are now empty. The vials are about the size of potion vials.
Elyas will find the book. Aside from the distasteful cover, he finds that two pages have been torn out. His Detect Magic revealed a lingering aura of magic, likely associated with these missing pages. Spellcraft DC 21Highlight to display spoiler: { The school is necromancy.} As Elyas is reading, a folded note falls out and flutters to the ground. It reads,
"Grovas - You will find this book useful. Consider it a gesture of good will and the start of our partnership. If you change your mind, seek out Neveras Canthil in Dirt City. He knows how to reach me."
The folded note contains the same arcane symbol that was in the book.
Rolth uses Comprehend Languages on the symbol. All he can tell is that it seems to be a compound symbol made up of three separate symbols for life, death and dreaming.
As you look at the huge dragon body and the Portable Hole, you conclude that it will not fit in there. The “hole” created is only 6 feet deep and 10 feet in diameter.
The acrid smell of the acid from the battle lingers in the air, and mixes with the odor of the dragons body as blood spreads from the thing across the floor. The blood begins to mix with the 18,000 gp in rubies, 4000 gold pieces that make up the rest of the dragons hoard here.

He gives Rolth a thumbs up to signal he's ready to go. (He's not taking it all for personal use, just getting ready to depart and it can all be sorted out later.)

DM Mark - "The sister may come back and the smell is unpleasant." Tuesday January 24th, 2023 4:42:55 PM Rolth gathers up the loot. He tries to think of where he may have heard the name Nevras Canthil before. He thinks perhaps it’s some sort of business person or artisan he’s heard of maybe somewhere in the vicinity of Izen, but nothing more than that. Wil scoops up some of the dragon blood and goes out to join Mak. Ayotnom also takes some blood, and then he pries off several of the scales of the dragon. He finds they are not so much as different colors and they are kind of iridescent and seem to reflect different colors depending on how the light hits them. They’re kinda cool. Falco is worried Grovas’s sister may return. He also pries off a few scales. It’s hard to do - they don’t come off easily. They’re about he size of his hand. Tsak finds that the loot here will fit in the portable hole just fine, and he packs that up. He looks around for loose scales. There are none, but he can begin prying them off the dead carcass like Ayotnom did. But too much of this will limit their use as an intact dragonhide for armor if that is the intent. Kiwina knows that skinning a dragon will take a while. He thinks on what he may know about Dirt City. Elyas suggests looking into this Nevras Canthil fellow. He thinks one of the party may be able to pose as Grovas in human form. Mak notes the two empty vials in the tankard he has, and two more in the other.
As the Petals emerge, Mak is there to greet them. Getting the loot out was no problem. The huge dragon is another matter. The Petals manage to drag it out, and there is a trail of blood and gore in the cavern and along their route out. As you go, you pass the dead kobolds you killed.
As you come out, Mak tells the others about the empty vials inside the lip of each tankard. There are still four Wyvarans bodies here. Kiwina is right - skinning the dragon will take a while, and will require some skill to do properly (survival, craft leatherworking, craft armor, etc.)
Kiwina will recall that from tales he’s heard, Dirt City known is a dirty place often called a city of thieves - one literally run by thieves. The tales suggest it’s a place best avoided. There is profit to be had there, but at a cost - always at a cost. Mak adds that there are really two Dirt Cities, one above and one below. I recalls that his noble family avoided the place in general as a den of thieves.
The lush greenery stands in quiet, peaceful contrast to the dead dragon and wyvaran’s here. A gentle breeze blows pleasantly providing a cool contrast to the warm sun. This could almost be a really nice place, at least until those bodies have been out here a few days.
Heck, it might even make a decent base of operations.

Wil gets in an argument with himself about Dirt City, and the collective voices cause him to walk away from the group. Ayotnom suggests selling the island, though he thinks the bodies will need to be dealth with first. Then he suggests heading the Dirt City. Tsak hears mention of a necromancer and suggests maybe the party should hire a paladin or a cleric to join them. (In addition to the two clerics already in the party?) Mak wonders aloud about the remoteness of an island base. Regarding the bodies, he suggests dragging them back to the beach and into the water to let the fish take care of them. Falco worries that Grovas’ sister may return if the Petals decide to live here. Elyas always considered The Rose to be the Petals’ base of operations. He suggests burning the bodies instead.
Burning the bodies will require a decent amount of wood. Sure a fireball can get things started, but bodies are wet and take a good amount of fuel to make sure they burn. And that dragon carcass is huge sized which will require the better part of a day and a lot of trees to build a sufficient pyre.
Mak’s idea of letting the fish do the work will require much longer, but would probably happen over time. Birds and crabs will want in on that deal too!
The Rose is large enough that the dragon could be transported back, but a huge skinned carcass is going to make a mess.
And speaking of The Rose, Froylot and another village fisherman are still on the boat.
The Petals manage to do a decent job skinning the huge dragon. This takes a few hours to do well and puts the Petals in the early afternoon.. This results in a huge dragon hide and a skinless body which looks and smells gross in the clearing. The smell is already beginning to attract some land crabs and seagulls. It’s still a hike back to the beach.
The breeze here is pleasant as long as you’re upwind of all the gore.

Elyas helps the team decide if teleportation is an option.
"If the dragon was alive I could teleport it with me, but as it is no longer a creature and is an object it is too heavy for me to carry with me through that spell. for now I think we would be better off just dragging it"
Teleporting as an option is still appealing if the Petals decide to come back here, so Elyas spends some time studying the first room inside the cave and commiting it to memory as a possible return spot for future teleportation. unfortunately it is not ass effective with such a large group (and large party members), but a series of teleportation runs is still a quick method of travel if needed.
In the meantime, elyas casts Mass Enlarge Person on the humanoid members of the party so they can all pitch in with the dragging of the dragon.

DM Mark - Maybe we shoulda' carried it to the beach before we skinned it. Thursday January 26th, 2023 8:06:13 PM
There is general consensus about dragging the dragon’s body to the beach. It takes the rest of the day and partly into the night to do so. In the process, it clears a swath of vegetation from the cave to the beach. But the party has rested a bit, and they have spells and magic items to help them.
And yeah, it’s pretty gross doing this after having removed it’s skin. You use ropes, but it’s hard to get a grip on the wet flesh. Falco’s not the only one that barfs in the process. In between the barfing there is discussion of making the place into a base. And thoughts about setting up a teleportation circle.
Eventually, you drag the carcass into the shallows. The tidal waters lap gently at the body, and almost instantly you begin to see crabs show up, interested in a free meal.
You’re pretty sure you know where the Rose should be anchored, but you see no lights like you would expect. And it’s quiet. And peaceful.

DM Mark - Evidently, dwarves and haggis are a bad combo. Friday January 27th, 2023 5:20:34 PM Rolth asks Kiwina if his compass can find The Rose. He remembers they told The Rose to douse the lights when they left. He asks if anyone has a means of contacting Ramsey on the ship. Ayotnom admits he has not way to magically contact The Rose. Tsak reminisces as he compares the dragon carcass to dwarven flatulence. He also seems to recall the Petals used the Folding Boat to get from The Rose to this island. Elyas casts a Fly spell and zips out to where he thought The Rose should be. Mak cleans himself off in the water as he suggests perhaps signaling the ship. Kiwina takes out his compass. Soon the needle swings, pointing out to sea. So the Rose is somewhere that direction. He thinks the spell Animal Messenger might work. To contact them. b]Falco[/b] is worried about The Rose and waits anxiously for Elyas to report back. Wil is also nervous and anxious but keeps to himself.
(Not sure who might be carrying the Folding Boat that brought you out here, but you folded it up back then so someone has it.)
Elyas ventures out into the darkness. There’s a little moonlight, but it doesn’t help the human mage much. Soon he realizes he’ll need some light, so he casts such a spell. He hears a *twang* and something whizzes past him. The he hears Ramsey’s voice. ”Hold yer fire ya dolt! That’s Elyas. Hey Elyas, is everyone alright?”
Soon Elyas and those on the shore see light on the Rose, and it’s in the direction where Kiwina’s compass is pointing.
The Petals unfold their boat, and it’s not long until they’re on The Rose. You can sense the crew was very nervous, keeping watch in the dark for a dragon that might rain down death from above. They seem quite relieved to have the heroes back aboard.
”We heard some noises and some splashing around. There was lights, but we weren’t gonna give away our position ‘cause we diddn’t know what it might be. We’re might glad to see you back here safe and sound.”
Froylot and Drrougl seem anxious as well. ”I…I see you made it back. Thank the gods. But what of Havatar. And the Dragon? Did you find them?”
Ramsey says to Kiwina, “”What are your orders Captain. We can make sail, but I’d rather wait for daylight if we can. These are unfamiliar waters, and even with Drrougl here guiding us, I’d feel better going where I can see.”
Once he knows things are alright, Ramsey tells one of the crewmen to break out the rum, and give each man a double portion for their bravery. Ramsey keeps a sharp eye to see that none have so much they can’t crew the ship. There’s plenty for the Petals as well.
The ship has it’s own smells, but it’s a sight better than that stinking dragon carcass in the shallows back there.
Funny, as day dawns a few hours later and Ramsey prepares the ship to sail, you don’t see the dragon carcass. It seemed pretty immobile when you left it.

Ayotnom and Falco expresses slight disappointment in how quickly Grovas was defeated. Mak worries that having skinned Grovas might offend his sister. He takes to the crow’s nest on the ship for the voyage home. Elyas
Drrougl considers the lack of info about Haltavar. ”Reckon he got et, he did. It’s the way of dragons you know. Little Haltavar was probably a tasty take-away morsel for that dragon. It’s a shame about the kid.
“I once heard a tale of a dragon that ate a whole village. Crisped ‘em up, it did and then ate what he cooked. Another story tells of knights being cooked in their armor, and then peeled open like shrimp. Rough way to go. Now sea dragons, they usually…” This goes on for a while. You’re pretty sure Drrougl has never seen a dragon, nor it’s aftermath. But fishermen gotta have a good fish story.
Drrougl gets a side-eyed glare from Froylot as he carries on in more detail than anyone wants to hear.
Eventually, Froylot says, ”The Council of Clans will need to be informed, and will likely have questions for you. But you Petals have done a great service to Liontaur Isle, and to all the Taur Isles for that matter. There’s no reason Grovas would have limited his depredations to our isle had he gone unchecked.
“That dragon skin you have is quite remarkable. I’m sure no one has seen it’s like before. Pity you didn’t keep the thing’s head - that would have been a prize as well. Perhaps we can find out more about that book and note from my friends at the Sage’s Guild.”
The ship is soon under way, and it feels good to be at sea again. Mak finds the crow’s nest to be a great place for a short time, but finds it a bit exhausting as every pitch and roll of the ship is dramatically amplified from his high perch. But the view is pretty great up there. And Mak spies no incoming dragons.
By the end of the day, the port at Chessford comes into sight. As The Rose sets anchor, the party brings out their folding boat and soon all are ashore at the bustling liontaur city. Froylot, Drrougl, Ramsey and a couple crewmen are with you as well. It seems your ship was spotted, as there is a waiting escort there to greet you.
A few of the liontaurs look familiar to the Petals. ”Greetings Petals. We have been sent to escort you to lodgings and see to your comfort. The Council will be anxious to hear what news you have. Wil asks about installing weapons on The Rose, and even suggests armoring the ship with the dragon skin. He stays on the ship. Kiwina is confident Ramsey has the ship in hand. He wonders if the Petals should talk to the Council of Clans about setting up a headquarters on the island. He remains aboard The Rose. Rolth is happy to stay ashore, and announces a trip to the Catacombs. Tsak looks over the loot Rolth plans to sell. He is glad of the accommodations, especially a bath. He accompanies Rolth to the Catacombs and is then very glad to sleep in a comfortable bed.
As Wil, Kiwina, Ayotnom and Falco stay aboard, Elyas, Rolth, Tsak and Mak go ashore.
It turns out, Liontaur beds are not really that comfortable to other species. Liontaurs are used to lounging on stone slabs with minimal cushioning, and with their natural armor they are used to a thin rough mattress. Still, some blankets and such are provided for Elyas, Tsak and Mak to make the beds better.
Soon, there is an unexpected knock at the door. A human messenger is there with something for Mak. He wears clothing from Asildur and he addresses and Mak as “M’lord” and says that his family sends greetings. Mak is given a small package that has clearly come a long ways. The man leaves.
The baths are pretty great. Liontaurs offer to scrub you down - it’s kind of like a spa treatment for those ashore. You four are relaxed and smell pretty good.
The four aboard the Rose still smell like ship - a mix of wood, tar, the salt air and a lingering smell of smoke. Not that bad really.

Clearly, word has preceded the Petals, because the Purple Duke, leader of Minotaur Isle, and Pelonius, the Lead Stallion of Centaur Isle, are there as well. You do not recall having seen either a centaur or minotaur ship at anchor though, and The Petals as well as Froylot and Drrougl are given seats at a large table. Refreshments are offered.

Harkin Sandifurr will speak first.
”Greetings Petals of the Eight Petaled Rose. It seems we are again in your debt. I have heard you vanquished a dragon and other ilk that threatened our isle. I asked The Purple Duke and Lead Stallion Pelonius here as well, as a dragon may have proved a threat to all our lands. So tell me, what happened? How did a dragon come to be on Liontaur Isle, and what happened when you went after it?”

As Rolth strolls up to the Council meeting, he notes that there seem to be more guards than usual, and more attentive too. Once he spots Pelonius and the Purple Duke, he thinks he understands why. (Sense Motive = 27, success!)
When Harkin Sandifurr inquires, Rolth starts to tell the story to the assembled leaders, hoping his friends will help fill in the parts that he forgets.
My dear Taurs of all kinds, I am pleased to see you gathered together, unified by Domi's will! I shall attempt to recall the events of recent days. As you probably already know, we were here in Chessford when a liontaur lad straggled into town seeking help. As you will see later, this turned out to be a ruse to lure us out. But all in good time, as they say. This boy, calling himself Halvatar, said that his homestead across the isle had been attacked. We of course gathered our gear and set out to try to help. On the way, we encountered some dire wolf ghouls, which we were able to dispatch. Upon reaching the scene, we found great destruction and death. In the nearby village, we met this worthy, Magistrate Froylot, and did further investigation of the region. We found scored into the earth nearby a taunt, "Grovas, son of Vurm." Froylot, being quite the sage, was able to tell us that Vurm was a rainbow dragon who had been defeated by heroes far in the past. Apparently, it spawned, and Grovas was plaguing the land. As we talked, we heard a commotion outside, emerging to see a rainbow dragon carrying off Haltavar! We consulted with the locals and studied maps, determining a likely island lair for the beast, and sailed there. Moving inland, we encountered several wyvarans guarding a cave tunnel. They were not inclined to negotiate, so they paid with their lives, but it was a tough fight, I must say. Venturing inside, we were ambushed by a pack of kobold rogue mercenaries, who we also defeated. Shortly after, we heard two voices ahead, Grovas and his sister, Ledra, conversing, even arguing! He was consumed by bloodlust, and she tried to persuade him of the error of his ways. We joined in the conversation, taking her side and trying to talk the hateful creature into taking another course. It became clear that Grovas had impersonated Halvatar, and that she was the dragon that had carried the 'lad' into the sky from the village. He would have none of negotiation, so we gave battle. She reluctantly defended her brother, but I must say that her heart was not in it. We were fortunate to slay Grovas quickly, before they could breath destruction more than a few times, and she teleported away. We skinned the beast for his trouble and abandoned his corpse on the shore. Once reunited with the trusty crew of the Rose, we returned her to report."
Tsak walks with the party into the council chambers. He's still a bit stiff from sleeping on a giant slab of stone but does his best to mask it. Wouldn't want to cause a diplomatic incident. He sees a few faces he recognises and mentally prepares himself for long, flowery speeches. Rolth sets a good example by summing their exploits accurately and concisely. Hopefully the rest will follow in the same vein.

To Mak the hard slab had the benefit of not swaying in the night, but the nobleman still felt the waves of the sea as he lay there. From experience he knew it would take days for his body to adjust to being on land. Still, he'd healed up fabulously over night and the bath worked out the pain from his sore arms and legs. He would never admit it, but his old war wound still bothered him on occasion even though he'd dispensed with the limp.
To Mak it was obvious that the leaders had discovered a way through the mirrors and he took any opportunity to shake either of the other leaders hands when greeting them, just to make sure they weren't projections like that Deep fellow.
"Sorted those mirrors it seems." Mak said in a low voice to Tsak and Ayotnom.
When Rolth was finished Mak stepped forward. He was wearing his family sword at his hip, his black armor with a gold and purple emblem on his tabard. Around his shoulders was a cape that was also gold and purple that swished about heroically as he moved. Pinned to the tabard was his WLA badge and rank insignia from Aisildur that was different from his last one he'd worn. He also wore a medal around his neck that hung just below his Amulet of Natural Armor that had an official look about it.
Surprisingly, Mak quite eloquently added in a cosmopolitan tone. "Assembled worthies, we should continue to remain vigilant. I am not certain we'd be able to call Ledra an ally. Though she withdrew from the battle she could still harbor ill will on us or the isles for the death of her brother. There is also the matter of Grovas body. Apparently it was spirited away in the night from where we left it in the shallows of Rainbow Rose Island. It would have taken a large creature to move the body and it's not unlikely that Ledra herself removed it. So for us Ledra's motives remain unclear and warrant caution in our dealings with her. As always the Eight Petaled Rose will be there to lend aid should Ledra become a threat to the isles." Mak finished without once mentioning Domi, Pantheon, or any other Son of a Begonia.

Elyas has nothing additional to add to Rolth's description of the events, but at the end of the explanation he does add
"after defeating the dragon Grovas, we discovered something quite ominous in his hoard. A book wrapped in human skin describing how to create various undead. Including the same kind of dire wolf ghouls that we encountered during our journey to Haltavar's village. We found indications that Grovas was working with someone who was training him in necromancy, which could reflect on a larger danger.
In my professional opinion, Necromancy is a dangerous art that has a way of getting out of control. It is a magic school I have avoided because I have seen the kind of corruption it can cause. Any threat of a necromancer gathering power or training others should be taken seriously in my humble opinion.
DM Mark - The Council of Clans plus two. Wednesday February 1st, 2023 2:19:55 PM Ayotnom ponders the stronger guard situation as well as the presence of the leaders of both Minotaur Isle and Centaur Isle. Rolth concludes the increased guards may be here because of the visiting dignitaries. He provides a summary of what happened with the dragons. He mentions that Haltavar was a dragon in disguise, a detail he did not tell Froylot. Froylot looks at Rolth for a moment. Tsak remains quiet. Kiwina suspects the Purple Duke and Pelonius may have figured out how to use the mirrors to travel here. Mak suspects the same. Dressed as an Asildur noble, he breaks protocol a bit to shake hands with the Purple Duke and Pelonius, who both seem to be very real. They accept the handshake graciously, and Pelonius smiles at the gesture. He adds to Rolth’s story, warning that Ledra may still prove a threat, and that some creature removed Grovas carcass in the night. Wil thinks about the dragon hide and discusses it with the others. (He can seek out someone to help craft a shield.) Falco waves at the Purple Duke. The Duke sees him and regards him coolly, though Pelonius smiles agt this as well. Elyas mentions a book of necromancy bound with human skin and found in Grovas’ lair. He says he suspects Grovas was working with someone to study that dark art.
The assembled nobles listen carefully. There are some questions. - Mak, do you represent Asildur in these proceedings? - How did you know Haltavar was Grovas in disguise? - Did you find Haltavar’s remains? - May we see that book? - Were there any other things of concern in the dragons’ lair, any other clues to Grovas’ connections to others you say he was working with? - You say a creature took Grovas body. How do you know? Could it have been teleported away, dragged into the deep, or quickly eaten? - Where did this Ledra go? - Froylot, do you have any more to add? - Where will you go now? - Is there anything you need from us?
(Feel free to answer any of these if you wish, but I will assume they are discussed if you do not.)
At this, Froylot will say, ”No my lords, it is as these heroes have said. I did not know until now that Haltavar was a dragon in disguise. I knew the boy and his family, so this is sad news as I presume this means he is also dead. The book is a concern, and I may be able to consult the Sages’ Guild further on this.”

"Mak, do you represent Asildur in these proceedings?"
Mak was mostly prepared for the question and he had a response ready. "I am but a minor noble of the Aisilduran Court and cannot speak on behalf my countrymen, but I do speak for myself and my house when I say I am committed to helping the isles when they are wronged or threats appear that endanger it's peoples."
"How did you know Haltavar was Grovas in disguise?"
"Rolth and I were close enough to hear Halvatar's voice from the dragons lair and when we faced the creature it used Halvatar's voice. The Halvatar we knew, that is, since we only met Halvatar after the dragon attack I presume we only ever spoke to the dragon and not the actual Halvatar. For that reason we wouldn't know what Halvatar actually sounded like."
"Did you find Haltavar’s remains?"
"There were no Liontaur remains to be found in the dragons lair or in any of the places we searched on the island." Mak said and while true he knew they hadn't done a thorough search of the island other than to send a summoned creature to look for dragons. At that thought he wasn't able to hide the uncertain look back towards the others. "A more thorough search of the island should probably be done." he admitted.
"You say a creature took Grovas body. How do you know? Could it have been teleported away, dragged into the deep, or quickly eaten?"
"It was a large carcass. Only a large creature could have moved it as it sat at the waters edge, though the other options you suggested are possible. I know our own wizard Elyas could not have teleported the remains since it came up when we were discussing how to move the body so it would have had to be a very capable wizard. It is possible however that a large sea creature could have dragged or eaten the dragon's body. We didn't see what actually happened, only that it was not there the next day when we departed. We surmised that since Ledra knew of the battle she might have returned to check on Grovas and found the body."
"Where did this Ledra go?"
"Though there might be a means of determining her location, none that I'm aware of have been employed."
"Shush." Mak said quietly to Wil when he started on about the book.

Also, we had seen the dragon that flew off with the boy we knew as Haltavar, and it was Ledra, not Grovas."
As for clues to Grovas's allies, "The book had a note in it. This identified someone in Dirt City who could put Grovas in contact with the author.* There was also a symbol that we could not identify. We still need to consult with sages about that."
At the question about whether there is anything else the group needs, Kiwina speaks up. "We suspect this Ledra is familiar enough with that island to teleport to it. Mak hadn't considered that wearing his family crest and other ceremonial items might be construed as an attempt to represent the government of Aisildur. Perhaps he'd need to curtail his ceremonial garb in the future. He'd have to ask Kiwina or Rolth what the tradition and expectation was concerning that. He'd only donned the medal at the last minute as a nod to his family honoring him with the new rank and knew had he not worn it if word had gotten home about that....well his Brothers Zond and Guinness might have objected to it.
Additionally that it appeared they were all being offered positions in the isles confused Mak. He thought that the offer had only been extended to Rolth to lead the clan. Based on this most recent turn of events it seemed they were all being offered the positions. Mak didn't know the protocol for such things, but trusted Rolth and Kiwina to make the correct decision for them all.

Rolth opines that a compromise might be reached regarding the book, namely that it be investigated carefully, under the watchful eyes of several worthies who can watch over each other to prevent malign influence. He reminds Elyas of the Sages' Guild motto that dangerous knowledge should be carefully preserved and kept secret, with the understanding that even the blackest treachery or darkest discoveries is knowledge that may one day turn to the benefit of the Noble Races. "Perhaps by knowing the secrets of our enemies, we will be better able to undo their nefarious plots!"
To the offers of home's among the isles, Rolth responds, "These are generous offers, for us to make our homes and even take up leadership positions, on each of your isles. Yet I for one feel that we are bound to all the isles, not just one, and that our united fate is what makes us strong. Please do not take affront that I must decline, for we only think of the greater good in this matter. Perhaps in addition to the Rose, we might have a base nearby, even on the islet where we defeated Grovas. Only time will tell whether we have the time and resources to make a go of it. Elyas is reluctant still to hand over the book.
Knowledge like this should not be treated lightly, it should be destroyed. We will not learn much of our foes plans by reading a book that has pages missing! we can only assume that the pages that have been torn out contain whatever rituals they actually intend to use, the rest would be at best a distraction, at worst actively cause us more trouble.
If the Petals insist, I will hand it over, but my recommendation is for this book to be burned and not be used by anyone else.
DM Mark - The Council of Clans plus two. Saturday February 4th, 2023 2:01:44 AM Wil launches into some dancing and incoherent ramblings and begins dancing. Mak ponders his appearance. He suggest the Petals not sail directly into Dirt City, but instead go ashore outside the city and walk in. Rolth says perhaps the necromantic book could be carefully read, and should be locked up and kept safe somewhere. He diplomatically declines the offer of each leader for the Petals to locate on their island, instead suggesting a place on the isle where Grovas was defeated. Ayotnom says that simply reading the book could be dangerous. Kiwina correctly sizes up the leaders' seeming competition to have the Petals on their island, and suggests the Petals would not want to appear to favor one isle over another. Falco does not wish to become a local leader among the taurs, but agrees a home base in the area is a good idea. Tsak isn’t sure about a home base. He addresses Mak with the great difference his station demands as he responds that it would seem a shame not to sail a perfectly good ship all the way into Dirt City. Mak is aghast that Tsak would refer to him this way. Elyas has strong reservations about anyone reading the book, suggesting that it instead be burned.
Harkin says to Wil, ”You are not a serious person. You may leave.” Wil suddenly realizes that it was not really a “may” and more of a “shall” as he is politely but firmly escorted out of the Council chambers. Harkin says to the Petals, ”That one’s not alright. You know that, right?”
In response to Rolth’s suggestion that all the Taur Isles could perhaps help the Petals create a home on a nearby isle, the leaders say they will discuss this proposal. They converse among themselves for a bit.
As they do so, Clan Chief Jasak Redtooth says, ”It seems you truly fear the knowledge in that book. Perhaps we should heed their warnings.” He will have a brazier brought in along with oil and a firesource so the Petals may burn it as Elyas’ suggests.
The Tauric Leaders do not discuss amongst themselves for long. The Purple Duke will say, ”We recognize the services you have provided to all our peoples. We recognize your wisdom in not favoring one isle over another. We proclaim you heroes to the Taurs, including that Wil fellow. While we understand you need no such proclamation from us, I think it is really our people who need such a proclamation as a way to unite all taurs. We would ask that you delay your departure for a few days so that representative minotaurs, centaurs and liontaurs may gather here in Chessford to celebrate the Petals in a spirit of unity and cooperation among our collected peoples.” Pelonius nods in agreement.
Then Clan Chief Irian Stormeye, an old wizened Taur with an eyepatch covering his right eye says, ”You ask for our help making the isle where you defeated Grovas into a base of operations, even if a symbolic one. We, all the taur leaders here, prepared a reward for your heroic efforts, so this should certainly get you started. By the way, what will you call that island? It’s gonna need a name.”
At this point, Tenzar, the Chief of the Goldmane Clan gestures to the guards with the chests. These guards clearly wear his livery, and they bring forth two heavy chests which they open. These chests contain gems and gold. You will note that there are gold coins here from all the taur isles.
(Note: this provides sufficient gold to bring everyone up to 12 level wealth, or 108,000 each. To make everyone’s life easier, please put your character at this level of total wealth. You may spend what you need in the Catacombs. But you must get your equipment lists squared away to include the correct values for all your gear, as well as any additional gems or gold you have to reach this 108,000 total in wealth.)
(In addition, you may design a base of operations as you wish on the isle where you defeated Grovas. Assume manpower and funds will be otherwise provided by the taurs for mundane, not magical, constructions there.)

DM Mark - Celebrate Good Times, Come On! d20=17 ; Monday February 6th, 2023 6:08:01 PM Rolth thanks the leaders there for their generosity and support. He suggests naming their new found island Unity Isle. As he is dragged out, Wil shouts out that the island should be named Ted. Once outside, he apologies the the guards there. He asks about finding an armorer. Kiwina agrees with the name Unity Island. He’d like to find a way to ensure dragons cannot teleport in though. Ayotnom says he is good with Unity Isle. Mak suggests Rainbow Rose Isle. He thinks it would honor the dragon defeated, and might keep Ledra at bay. Falco muses on some other names, but he’s worried that with out a rainbow, using that in the name might be confusing.
The guards outside are a bit apprehensive about Wil, but they can direct Wil to an armorer in town.
As the Petals discuss the island names, others in the room suggest things like Liontaur Isle II, The Centaurs’ Pride, Purple Paradise, Grovas’ Bane. Even the guards in the room get into the act with The War of the Rose Island, Petals of Death, Thorn Castle, and If-You’re-A-Dragon-And-You-Come-Here-We’ll-Kill-You Island. That last one gets some frowns from others in the room. Finally Harkin says, “I’m sure the Petals have this well in hand.”
To the Petals he says, ”Please relax here in Chessford as our honored guests. In a few days we will have a celebration in your honor, and between now and then we will send people by to see you have what you need. But for now, Lead Stallion Pelonius and the Purple Duke will return to their islands so they may come back with some of their people.”

Wil is able to find both an armorer and a cobbler, but what does he want there?
The island name is discussed, and perhaps further discussed at the local Tavern, the Wander’s Roost. It's a working class place, a bit rowdy at times. There is a small stage for a bard, though none are there tonight. Yet.
(Any of the Petals that wish to be there are.)
Some or all of the Petals are there, and as many folk want to buy the Petals drinks as expect the Petals to buy a round of drinks for folk there. It’s mostly liontaurs, but there are a couple centaurs and three minotuars there as well. There are a few dwarves, one elf keeping to himself but amused by the crowd, and two gnomes arguing heatedly about something. They look like they might come to blows.
At one point, two liontaurs square off to fight each other and are promptly thrown out by a no-nonsense liontaur waitress named Phaeline. Which is strange, since she is not as strong as these two - but they clearly do not want to mess with her as she drags them out by the scruffs of their necks. The crowd cheers her as she comes back in.
Three are a few dart boards here, and the Petals are challenged to games. There is also an axe throwing gallery - which seems like a reeealy bad idea in a bar, but there it is.
The drinks are good and the food is passable. But the crowd is pretty great!

Each time a petal lost he bought a round for the bar...so it was in their best interest to add to the jests. Sometimes he forgot though and bought one anyway. Mak also didn't wear any ceremonial garb. preferring a simple white shirt and leggings along with his belt, sleeve garters, jewelry, and his purple and gold cape to ward off the chill. Tucked into his belt were a couple of riding gloves. Naturally almost of of these things radiated magic from their various enchantments. Outside Elmer waited patiently for him to stumble out.

So he uses Telekinesis to throw an axe. Wil heads to the armor and orders a specialty Tower Shield made from the dragon scales. He also has a pair of boots made.
Will commissions his shield and boots, and he wants the shield to have a spike at the bottom so he can plant it. (Note that a planted Tower Shield will have little benefit to AC - shields must be wielded by their user to provide an AC bonus. Using one to provide total cover requires a standard action by their wielder.) He is told these should be read in a couple of days.
—-------------------------------------- At the tavern, the Petals have a good time. A number of patrons ask the Petals to tell them about facing a dragon - what was that like? Did it breathe fire? How’d they survive? Will there be more dragons?
Ayotnom does well with the axe, and none best him. A liontaur buys him a drink.
Mak’s criticism earns him a number of hoots and challenges. Those present call for him to show everyone how good he thinks he is.
Tsak’s cat is very popular, and a young minotaur server brings Esmerelda some food to eat. He tries to pet the cat if she’ll let him.
Elyas trick using magic to throw some axes gets some hoots and cheers! The elf in the back comes up and congratulates the mage for showing them all how it’s properly done. He introduces himself as Ginvelian, and he says he runs a tailoring shop called in town and that the mage should stop by and see him there as he has something for him.
Rolth provides entertainment, which is well received. After some calling, a young liontaur from the kitchens comes out with his lute and joins Rolth and Mak on the stage. He holds his own as a performer. A couple of dwarves buy the trio a drink.
A poet named Gnym steps up from the back of the tavern tells Rolth his poem was great and asks permission to write down his lyrics, promising to credit Rolth.
Falco laments his shortness. A centaur named Hereliac comes over and moves a darboard down for the little owlman. ”There, that’s better. Let’s see what you got.”
It becomes clear the two gnomes are arguing over ownership of a book of some sort. As they get loud, Phaeline hollers at the two to pipe down or get out. They lower their voices, but seem committed to the fight that does not seem to be resolving.
The two liontaurs that were thrown out for fighting show up again. They beg Phaeline to let them back in, promising to behave. She glances over to another liontuaress that seems to run the place, who nods. Phaeline give them a stern look but allows them in.
Mak’s sharp eye does notice a younger liontuar trying to remove something from the pocket of an older liontaur in the back of the room.
The night continues on in the Tavern - it’s a pretty lively place late into the night.
As the night winds down, the patrons begin to drift out one by one.

When approached by Gnym with his request, Rolth stops for a moment to pick his jaw up off the floor before excitedly agreeing. "I would be most honored! Who would have thought, the poet laureate of Minotaur Isle likes my rhymes! I am so glad that our paths have crossed on occasion ever since the Taurnament of Roses."
As things start to wind down, Rolth begins to pack up his gear before heading to his lodgings, but stopping first to make sure that all of his comrades are in a reasonably good state. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, but at least for this evening, all is well in this corner of the Wold.

Esmerelda, happy that the petals are back and that she got some attention the previous evening, settles down in a patch of sunlight to see what the day brings.

"Books are to be respected." He adds, but, he is just trying to find a reason to check out the book. "You know," to Ayotnom, "we should really start a library at the Flower Pot or Mushroom Palace or whatever we end up naming our base of operations. I'm imagining a protected place to hold the most dangerous books." Then on a completely different subject, "Shoot, I forgot to visit the temple. Ugh, Wardd is going to be upset... oh wait no.. there is no temple here.. never mind." "This place is hopping tonight."

Rolth is kind to the young minotaur, and he is honored to share a bardic moment with the renowned Gnym. Well, renowned locally anyway. He check on his comrades as he heads back to the lodging. Tsak and Kiwina are content to return to sleep aboard the Rose. Wil tries to intervene in the argument between the two gnomes. Falco thanks the centaur for his help, and throws some darts with him. Mak agrees to throw some darts. Elyas is pleased to meet the elf named Ginvelian. He tells Elyas his shop is named the Frayed Knot. He bids Elyas good night.
Wil tells the two gnomes to stop fighting and to be more respectful of books. They do indeed stop fighting as they turn their attention to Wil. ”Who do you think you are? You can’t talk to my brother like that.” “Yeah, ya big stupid lummox - you tall people think you’re so big and all.” “And what business is our book to you anyway?” “Yeah, jerk. It’s our book - been in our family for a generation. And it’s staying with me!” “Oh no you don’t, ma said I could have it.” “That’s just because you tricked her! You can suck lemmons if you think you’re getting that book. Yer wife’d prolly just sell it.” “Ooo, don’t you talk about Merilla that way! I’ll brain you for that.” Aaaaand they’re fighting again. Wil does not see whatever book they are arguing about, so it may or may not even be here in the tavern.
Hereliac the Centaur throws about as well as Falco, but he doesn’t manage to land a dart as close to the bullseye as Falco, so he concedes the game.
Mak finds that the drink has affected his throw (those were some pretty bad rolls for Mak - glad it wasn’t combat). This causes a great deal of laughter after his bravado. Andy they buy him drinks to make sure he doesn’t get any better.
Eventually, the Petals retire for a good night's sleep, wherever they sleep.
Morning dawns. Some wake with a bit of a headache, but it soon passes.
The Petals have a few days to spend before whatever sort of ceremony is supposed to happen. How do you spend the days? You can see the town is being prepared for an influx of visitors and some festivities.
Also, on this anticipated day of citywide celebration all you know is that you will be honored by the taur leaders. Those staying at the lodging in town are bathed and given a haircut by their hosts, and they find their clothing has been cleaned as set out.

Mak was completely happy with his performance with the darts. Being blindfolded, spun around, and ear plugs to keep him from hearing anyone and he STILL hit the target was good enough for him. That his score wasn't good enough to win...whatever. At least that's how HE remembered the evening.
The young nobleman soon forgot about the pickpocket and before long had wandered out of the pub and onto Elmer who amazingly knew the way home. At Mak's room he absently passed the horse off to a handler and made his way uncertainly to his room where he locked the door and hung his sword on a bedpost within easy reach.
Sunlight the next morning wasn't appreciated, but after a few moments soaking his face in the wash basin he was feeling better. Mak straightened himself up and donned his ceremonial garb before walking out into the day. A quick check on Elmer and he found someone to tell him where he needed to be at what time then he moved on to stretch his legs for a bit before the festivities.

DM Mark - Celebrate Good Times, Come On! Saturday February 11th, 2023 1:12:45 AM Rolth is busy on Liontaur Isle, seeing to training, visiting the Catacombs and even getting a tattoo. The morning of the ceremony, he puts on his best and combs his hair. Which is saying something - he has a lot of hair. Mak makes sure that Elmer gets him home. At least he was pretty sure that’s how he got home. The morning of the ceremony he dons his uniform. Elyas visits the Catacombs. On his way back he stops in at the Frayed Knot to visit the elf he met. Falco likewise tends to his shopping. Wil tries to convince the arguing gnome brothers that perhaps their family book should go in a library. This earns him some funny looks from the pair, and then they burst out laughing. They decide that perhaps they can share the book, and then begin arguing on who gets it first. Kiwina visits the WLA with Rolth for some training. He also looks at the boats in the harbor.
The next day, Elyas sees the sign above Ginvelian’s tailoring shop - The sign has a short piece of a very thick rope attached to it tied into a rather intricate knot. It appears to have been there for some time as the ends are indeed frayed. In the open windows he can see various items of clothing, mostly liontaur, but also some cut for smaller folk. The elf smiles as Elyas enters. ”Ah, I was hoping you’d stop by. Hmm … yes, yes. I’m pretty sure I knew you’r size, but let’s make sure I was right.” He brings out a rather impressive garment. It’s somewhere between a coat and a robe - more of a knee length coat than anything else, open at the front but able to be buttoned closed. It’s made of a fine leather dyed a deep green. The collar, sleeve ends and the opening to the coat are trimmed in some sort of gold material. ”I noticed that you were wearing rather plan garb in the tavern, and I thought you might need something more … befitting your station for the upcoming celebration.” Ginvelian pushes Elyas protestations aside even as he begins to make them. ”This coat, and these matching breeches were commissioned by a visiting nobleman that died about a year ago, and I’ve not really been sure what to do with them. Turns out he had a mistress here, so his wife wanted nothing to do with them. You looked like they might fit. While I cannot make you wear them, I would be honored to have you in this for the ceremony. No, no, no need to pay for them. Like I said, they were paid for some time ago. But let’s make sure they fit.”
Indeed, as Elyas tries them on, they do indeed seem to fit just fine. It consists of a fine coat and matching breeches. ”Yep, I was right. Excellent. Now, you’ll need to get some decent boots. I have a nice black pair of soft boots here if you wish.” These he will sell to Elyas for a reasonable price. —----------------------------------- Finally the day has come. A couple of rather fussy liontaurs arrive early in the morning. As mentioned before, those staying at the lodging in town are bathed and given a haircut by their hosts, and they find their clothing has been cleaned as set out. The liontaurs seem to be working toward a schedule, and someone is sent to fetch those aboard The Rose. They even try to groom Esmerelda. However, she’s not having it, so they back off.
Eventually, Tenzar, the Liontaur Chief of the Goldmane Clan arrives to escort the Petals. He looks like a king, a flowing gold mane, covered in adornments and sparkling jewels and gemstones held together with silver rings to contrast with his gold coloured mane.
The Petals are marched though town to a good deal of cheers. Flowers and some fine red leaves that smell nice are on the road. Finally, the Petals arrive at the town square in Chessford. Tenzar goes to join the other liontaur clan leaders. Also there are Pelonius with a number of centaurs you recognize, including the venerable Hollyhocks. Also there is the Purple Duke along with some of his nobles, and even a few minotaur guards you recognize that seem happy to see the Petals again. Liontaurs you recognize are there, including Froylot and Gnym who nod at the Petals as they pass.
Finally, you stop and are presented to all those assembled.
Clan Chief Harkin Sandifurr, dressed much nicer that he seems to like, awkwardly adjusts his vest before he looks up and says to the crowd,
”Friends - taurus and and all citizens of the Tauric Isles, we are assembled here to show our gratitude to these heroes, the Petals of the Eight Petaled Rose. It started with these heroes winning the Tournament of Roses. In recent days, they quelled a racist rebellion on Minotaur Isle when they solved a murder there, rescued Pholus and brought Domi’s Mirrors to the rulers of the isles, banished and evil power in the seas, and rescued all the isles by killing the dragon Grovas and driving away his sister, never to return. For these and other events, we are grateful.
“In doing these things, they have brought unity to the Tauric Isles. Never again will an isle seek to go to war against another.
“And so, on behalf of the rulers assembled here, I proclaim the Petals to be the heroes of the Tauric Isles, and friends to taurs everywhere.”
With that, the Petals are introduced by one-by-one, each by name. Pelonius, The Purple Duke and some of the liontaur Clan Chiefs step forward to put a heavy necklace made of gold squares around the neck of each of the Petals. Each of the squares has a depiction of the various exploits of the Petals in saving the taurus, including slaying a fearsome dragon.
Someone in the crowd cheers, echoed by the crowd.
Huzzah! HUZZAH!
Huzzah! HUZZAH!
Huzzah! HUZZAH!
And the crowd erupts into cheers and clapping. Finally, things calm down.
Tenzar steps forward. ”And do the Petals have anything they would like to add? Tell us, where will you go now? What heroic deeds await?”

He catches the never to return bit, which he hopes is the case but does not know is true, with a slight frown. In truth, they had done more for the islands than he realized, but the latest adventure. . . Well, it may not be over yet. He doesn't know.
What deeds await? The aumakua might be able to glimpse the future; Kiwina can't. He does not follow Rolth's example of bringing up their real concerns.
