With a final word of thanks, Danko and the rest move into the area of Vyrnix's lair that was recently occupied by lava. As you step through the gate, he lifts his tail, releasing the flow to once again cover the glyphs. There will be no coming back through.
The Gate from the dragon lair opens upon the steps of the Palace of Maab herself. The parties sudden arrival, or rather, the sudden arrival of 6 powerfully armed and highly equipped individuals does not cause the alarm that would likely have occurred nearly anywhere, confirming the Vyrnix's statement.
Behind you lays a beautifully manicured lawn with great topiaries and crushed seashell paths that allow one to stroll about several reflecting pools and fountains. benches are scattered about and several enormous black willows stand about the connecting streams that wander from pool to pool.
Before you, up a score of marble steps, is the opening Parthenon of columns that tower over the walkway to Maab’s Palace. Sprites and pixies, satyr and nymphs and a good accounting of all sorts of numerous fae, can be seen on the grounds behind you, in the air about you and conversing in positions of leisure upon the steps and none of them seem bothered or interested in your sudden arrival in the slightest.
Everyone gets a Hero Point for handling Vyrnix and specifically his mate. Mighty heroic to stand there and let a dragon prep up

After a short look around of appreciation for the change in scenery, some thoughts on how eating anything might be a bad idea and that the party shouldn't just burst, Nira asks about where Queen Maab might be. The nearest group of fae consist of a pair of sprites playing some type of dice game while a saytr lounges by with a stem of grapes watching and commenting on the game.
It is the saytr that looks over and smiles. "Visitors! Welcome." then to the sprites "And look they aren't dead."
The sprites stop their game and perk up. "ooooooohhhhhhhh" they say in unison sing-song The take hop about staring, gaping and pointing all the while talking to each other in hushed tones and extremely rapidly.
The saytr chuckles light heartedly, "Don't mind them. Just up these steps and down the rows, you'll find Queen Maab."
When the not dead comment comes up he chuckles once more, "This is the Land of Rest you know. The Twighlight Valley." He shoes the sprites back to their game
Heading up the steps and passing the rows on rows of columns you quickly note that the columns endlessly spread out about you in all directions, including the path you just came from.

Nira gets a bit side tracked, but is soon reeled back in by Hmerrin and the group is once again walking along endless rows of columns. This extra dimensional aspect causes Gaffer to wonder if the Saytr was indeed being helpful, or is this some kind of prank.
Then, ahead the Party hears what must be some great feast taking place. Laughing, singing, voices carrying loudly in their conversation and music is all easily discernible ahead.
Moments later a golden glow can be seen and soon after that the most amazing feasting hall one could imagine is laid bare before you. Row upon row of tables to your left and right and like the columns, seem to have no end. Above your heads, are fantastically large chandeliers of flame and magical glowing orbs, swaying, impossibly for their great size, in an unfelt breeze. Great roaring fires roast boar and other game and everywhere there are creatures, spirits and all sorts of feasters of the host Queen Maab
There is a cacophony of sound, yet it somehow blends into itself to seem pleasant to your ears, easily allowing you to converse with each other, albeit in elevated tones and also allows you to focus attention on any song or ballad being played and able to hear it in perfect clarity. The Battle Hymn of the Grey Knights, The Tale of Grymash Mountainback and The Rope, The First Sunrise Song and so many more, After the last Yuletide celebration in the Ghost, this last bit of amazing magic would be well received there.
Almost as soon as you take in the scene you find yourself seated? How did? When? Ah pour the wine and a toast! A platter of lemon and herb seared fish with garlic greens! The perfect compliment after the lamb. Wait, is this the second or third course now? We need.. Fruit pies!

When the table of food appear she can't help but stare with her mouth open.
Nira isn't a huge eater, but those roast potatoes are too good to ignore. And is that wine? Mmm... She doesn't feel right about eating meat here, so decides to stick to just vegetables, salads, fruit, and as many different desserts as she can try. She isn't sure where to start so just starts picking up different things and putting them on her plate. Soon she is out of things within arm reach so stands to find more.

Fruit Pies? Yes please! Several in the group fall under the celebratory feasting. The sights, smells and sounds. How can one pass it up. Danko, Gaffer and Des all keep their passions in check and soon have the others focused to the task at hand. Des scans about, but other than apparent endless rows of party goers he sees nothing that might assist with his search.
Gaffer stands and looks to see if he can get the others to come with him, but to where?

Nira looks to Danko and then down to her plate. Now out of her trance she feels really guilty about how much food she somehow managed to fit on her plate. That was just greedy! There's no way she can eat it all and she's too polite to put it back on the other trays. She starts to panic about what to do now.
When Danko calls out and draws attention, Nira takes the opportunity to slide her plate somewhere towards the middle of the table and away from her. She then just sits there and tries to look innocent, while reaching for a shiny red apple.

Ramirez, Nira and Hmerrin are snapped back from the feasting and take the scene in again. the group needed to get to Queen Maab's palace, amazing distractions aside. Danko stands and declares to the table, indeed the tables all about. His announcement is met with a resounding roar of approval. Goblets are raised by nearly all, "Hail the mighty heroes!"/b]
Des stands and several others at the table stand with him. [b]"To Adventure and the WOLD!"
Hmerrin leans over to one of the many patrons toasting to Danko's proclamation and asks about where Queen Maab's Palace might be. He is met with a resounding laugh and the hoisting of a tankard, "My dear boy! You are seated at her table!" He turns to the head of the table and bows his head and tips his goblet, "My thanks."
And indeed so you are....All of you. The other guest seats himself, apparently having just finished a rousing speech in praise of Maab, barring the ending where he addressed Hmerrin's inquirey about Maab. You feel it now. Power upon power radiating down from the head of the table. Like the sun itself.
Maab! You are at HER table and the man, human by all appearances, now seated just to your left seems very familiar indeed, but from where? Maab smiles at you and with a nod asks you to speak, “My dear valued guests of the living Wold.” The scene, the room indeed the table, now feeling very small and private with only a dozen or so other guests at the head table of Queen Maab, falls silent and all attention is focused upon you.

A returning nod of acknowledgement at your respect provides signal enough for everyone to return to their seats. Ramirez begins with why you are here and pauses for someone else to apply more detail. Hmerrin adds the detail of Fae Skiemir and several about the table appear to be slightly taken aback and some begin whispering to each other. Surely they don't mean to.... Maab wouldn't..would she?.... Lambs to the slaughter.... Officers of the WLA...

We've struck a deal with the dragon Vyrmix, that should we return to him with a specific crystal from Fae Skiemir that he will give us direction to the rakshasa home plane". She sits back down.

Nira explains what the group wants to do and why. The rest hold their collective breaths, hoping for the best. Across the table, a strong looking male of elven heritage speaks first, "This could be disastrous my Queen. Is there wisdom inletting a group such as this," he gestures a spreading arm to The Tide, "Enter that place? They likely will not return and thus cost the Wold powerful, if not always forthright, protectors."
Several others at the table nod. Again the faces here are familiar including the elf who just spoke, but your mind seems fogged here.
"A human speaks up, "You do not know what evil they seek to stop. The lengths to which..."
The elf cuts him off and several others at the table are nodding in agreement with him as he does so, "All the more reason. The cursed city is no place for such things."
Queen Maab then speaks and as soon as she inhales, all eyes and attention of the other guests fall on her and her alone, "Then we shall have to make them aware. Life is about learning and missteps along the path are to be expected. I believe they are capable of succeeding and worthy of taking the test."
Queen Maab inclines her head to the man who had finished the toast upon your arrival at the table. “If you would escort our guests through the maze and prepare them for this last leg of the journey.”
"It would be on honor and my pleasure my Queen. Thank you." he responds as he stands.
Queen Maab smiles warmly, “Thank you Atharges”
With that Atharges stands, "Unless there is something else here friends?"

Nira considers something for a moment. "Your majesty, if Fae Skiemir is as dangerous as it sounds, and there are concerns about us going there, then perhaps there is an alternative. Could you instead, by chance, open a portal for us to travel directly to the rakshasa plane? That would leave Fae Skiemir untouched. It would be much safer and in the best interest of the Wold for us to stop the invasion before it begins and lives at risk."

Nira asks Queen Maab if she could open a portal directly to the Rakshasa and thus eliminate the possibility of the group failing in Fae Skiemir Even as Des reminds her that the bargain with the dragon included acquiring items of protection to make such an assault possible, Atharges says the same thing. "If you confront the maharaja without the talismans from Vyrnix, you will be utterly destroyed.". Ramirez thanks Queen Maab and she nods in reply with a smile.. Atharges smiles warmly as well and claps Ramirez on the shoulder, "Of that you can be certain. It is you who allowed me to be here. To say I owe you everything is an understatement"
The group seems ready to follow and so Atharges leads the party through a door and out of the small private room. The ornate hallway is paneled in beautiful wood inlays with a turquois floor marbled with some silvery metal. The hall is relatively short and soon opens onto a wondrous view of the rear gardens of the palace.
A beautifully manicured hedge maze, easily seen from the top of the steps, measures perhaps 50’x50' and is laid out in a pleasing geometrical pattern of straight lines about a central wheel. Descending the stairs and entering, you walk with Atharges for what seems like hours, through uncountable twists and turns, past courtyards and fountains and all sorts of sculptures of which none existed from your view earlier. Coming to a dead end, Atharges stops and touches a lattice wall of roses, which parts to reveal a golden glowing gateway. “This shall take you to the Outskirts of the lost city of Fae SKiemir. Your journey to the city itself and through the Mythal may yet be perilous, so you are forewarned. Take care and be mindful to your purpose lest you be distracted and ensnared.”

Atharges smiles warmly to the group as you each head into the portal. To Nira he responds, "A trinket to keep you safe on another plane? That is what you believe? No they are quite more than that. As for my trust in Vyrnix? I have faith in the dragon and faith in the pact that i began and it would seem that you renewed. He will not break it."
You arrive at the edge of a great forest to your back and before you, perhaps a few miles, is a great bluish gray bubble. Within, must be Fae Skiemir and the bubble must be the protective barrier known as the Mythal. The forest behind you, feels and sounds as any other forest might. The distant chirp of birds, the rustling of leaves as small creatures dart about branches and upon the floor.

Just before the portal closes, he asks Atharges. "Anything you can tell us about this Crystal? Size? Magical Properties? Exact location and likely guardians?"
With that, the fighter heads into the woods. [Perception 37 to not get ambushed. Survival 31 to not get lost.]

Nira is in agreement. Fast travel magic is probably not a good idea. She's content to fly, but teleportation and other speedy methods should probably be kept in reserve for now.

Stepping through, a sudden host of questions come to mind and Atharges does his best to answer, prefacing it first, "I will say what I remember. The City of Fae Skiemir was condemmed by the gods and ripped from the Wold and now is a prison of sorts. It acts as a punishment for the greedy and corrupt souls in this afterlife. The crystal is the size of your head good Hmerrin. I do not know of any specific guardian or the location. Vyrnix was to assist with that. Nor am I aware of any properties at all. Vyrnix made the retrieval of the crystal his requirement to assist me and I agreed. The Mythal keeps things in, not out..."
Atharges is cut off as the portal closes and a voice from up in one of the great branches above. “Ahh more guardians, fodder and fools. Are there no more bards in the Wold? No more story tellers? For surely if there were, you would not be here. Do you truly think that the fabled treasures within are yours for the taking?”
Looking up you spy a regal looking elf-like humanoid with Birdlike wings covered with autumnal leaves instead of feathers extending from its back.
"That was quite enough of him I think."

Desdichado looks up at the elf, impressed by the leafy wings. He's not sure what to make of the creature or it's intentions - he's not even sure where they are! - so he's content to stand silent for now.

Hmerrin nods to himself when Atharges mentions Vyrnix could locate the crystal. He'd forgotten the dragon had given him that locator.
Atharges disappears. Hawkman appears. And some Dryads.
"Well," he addresses Hawkman, "If the Mythal is meant to keep the bad stuff in the city, and you're not in it, you must not be that unpleasant. And we're not looking for treasures, plural. Just one. One we hope will help save the peoples of the Wold."
He regards the fellow some more. "We're The Tide. We could probably use some help, if you're so inclined."

Gaffer instinctively sends to the others. "An Erkling, a sort of protector of nature, normally, I think." Seeing the Dryads Gaffer smiles, surely not an all bad place then.
They weren't immedietely attacked and Hmerrin gives a good greeting so Gaffer relaxes shoulder a moment and waits for their response. Carrots might be a rarity here too!

The group spies the and identifies the Erkling creature and through the shared mental link, all are able to point out the numerous other fey creatures peering and peeking curiously from bush and tree.
Hmerrin addresses the Erkling directly and he in return smiles warmly with a merry laugh. "If the Mythal is meant to keep the bad stuff in the city, and you're not in it, you must not be that unpleasant. ' "A fine deduction my good sir. Full marks for you" he lightly laughs.
At Danko's offer of a carrot, he drops to the ground, lightly landing on his feet. "But of course, a most generous gift."
He pulls his hand through thick long auburn hair and flicks it back over his shoulder. "The Tide? As in a common calling from all of you as a whole then. Always an interesting concept you have. This need to identify in a group as a whole to the sacrifice of self." He holds up a hand and smiles, "But not the point. No, most certainly not, for help you do indeed need and as your fortune would have it. I am quite willing to provide it."
"We will wait at the edge of the Mythal, at the very edge of the city and in that way you may be able to leave. For without an external guide to lead you back through the Mythal, it is not possible to leave the city. That is the entrapment of the city of greed and selfishness. We will wait a single day after that, you will be lost."
A slight breeze stirs about, rustling his leafy wings and shortly, a handful of dryads, a pair of faerie dragons and a treant move to the edge of the wood.

"Uh. Well, thanks," he replies to the Erkling. "That is helpful."
The man decides he's just going to let somebody else ask the obvious question. If no one does, he starts off in the direction of the city.

Nira also wonders what the deal is. In a place known for it's greed, do people do things for free? She doesn't want to turn down free aid though and waits to hear what the erkling has to say.

The group has questions and concerns over the assistance being offered revolving around why and what it might cost.
The erkling looks at each of you while answering. "More than helpful, essential really. As for me, I am one of the good guys. As demonstrated by me NOT being in the city. All of the treasures within are fabled, the city itself is a fable and the other reason I am willing to assist is that without permission from Queen Maab, you would not be here and she does not let many through the gates. So yes, your appearance is quite extraordinary. "
He lightly laughs one more time, a genuine almost child-like laugh, "Owe? Why no more than you have already given." He tucks one carrot into his mouth like a cigar and puts the other behind his ear.
Des can sense no deception of anykind. The faerie dragons each land on a shoulder and curl tails around his neck to hold on. Several dryad wave back to Nira and giggle. Perception DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: {A pixie has floated in about 8' behind Des and is currently pantomiming the stern paladin}
Hmerrin tries to hold in laughter and just ends up snorting, sending him into a coughing fit.
"That was pretty good," he says at last, waving haphazardly at the pixie.
He straightens. "Well, alrighty then, Mr. Erkling. Thanks so much for your help. Lead the way."
As they march, he asks, "Anything about the fabled city we should be especially wary of?"

Nira tries to keep a straight face while the pixie puts on it's act but she finds it difficult to stop grinning. Her grin drops though when Des admonishes the little fey, but thankfully he starts laughing. Phew! He got her that time as well!
"Well played" she gives Des a pat on the shoulder.
She picks up on something the erkling has said. "So good guys on the outside? I guess that means bad guys inside the city? What sort of bad guys are we talking about?"

The pixie turns with Des and a mirror copy of the pixie appears, so the two are facing each other. The original pixie admonishes the duplicate as Des does so as well. The copy vanishes and the pixie turns back and before the paladin can blink, has covered the 8', plants a kiss on his forehead and vanishes. The Erkling laughs again and gestures with his head towards the bubble in the distance that contains the fabled city of Fae Skiemir. He begins heading that way.
"Especially wary of? Well there is the horde of purely selfish and greedy creatures that dwell fight and stalk the city from your deepest nightmares. But more so, you should be mindful of your mission. You will be tested. That is what the city and Mythal is, a test. Of your character, your conviction, your very being really and the city contains thousands of souls and creatures who have failed. From the elves themselves caught within and responsible for the city's fall to here, to those who have come on 'missions', to those being punished for the evils committed that are tied to what is best described as greed."
The group walks along as he speaks, the party, the treant and the Erkling with his new shoulder decorations. The lush forest edge and life is gone, giving way to a barren broken and rocky landscape. The air turns hot and still, a taste of dust begins to fill your mouths as well. An hour later you stand mere feet from the grayish blue field "Now I have, of course, never been inside and you must forgive my lack of detail. Totally rooting for you here. But make no mistake." The erkling's tone and mannerism shift, even as his colorful feathers darken and take on a more wilted appearance, to a far more serious delivery
"You are about to find out for yourselves if you all are actual heroes. To the point where you might not even know yourself. Through this barrier the only way back is past the test and while you will not be aware of your failure, any of your group who passes will be and there is no rescue." A small pause and then the erkling is back, colorful, smiling and bright. "24 hours, then even success will be your failure. Good luck.
