DM Mitch d20=17 ; Thursday May 18th, 2023 8:02:32 AM Ezekiel suggests that keeping iron cold in this heat will be difficult and offers to use ray of frost on them but it might be too cold and damage the iron. Dapple asks how her patron would feel about the fae spreading bad luck. She reminds the others about her good luck ability and acquires a cold-iron dagger. R.J tells Yofiel he was just doing what he needs to be done and has had time enough this past week to create new bolts and enough time now to put the cold iron tips on them. Grim Ripr finally gets up. He finds an iron bar to use as a club as well as a box of alchemical and potion provisions. He also checks on how the mask is coming along. Marest has been happy to assist in the healing effort but seams to have lost the conversation with respect to the Fey and Gremlins and asks what she missed.
Grim finds out from Stella that the mask is complete. Timothy Pritchet and Rothlorien are able to provide you with a selection of cold iron weaponry to purchase. Timothy says, “I don’t think I’m skilled enough to craft cold iron weaponry in a speedy manner but if you’ll pay for what we salvaged and what my late master had lying around I’ll put the proceeds towards improving my skill and I’ll be able to forge cold iron myself in the future hopefully.”
Once prepared, Rothlorian leads them to the houses in question. Dapple notes that one of them was where Brother Cadmus lived - perhaps the notes she seeks might be inside. The party is asked to clear that one, as the other apparently has a much more serious infestation. As you approach you start to smell something foul and some nasty looking stains on the street. Something throws crap at Rothloian from an upstairs window but he expertly dodges it.

Yofiel found a quiver of 20 arrows fitted with cold iron barbed points, a cold iron rapier, and a pair of cold iron daggers. If someone wants one of the daggers, she will offer it. She found a string of 5 tiny brass bells, each about an inch tall. She has a few additional items besides those mentioned.
The elf walks in a wide circle around the building, ensuring she is well outside the apparent range of the hurled bits. Her purpose is to see which walls have windows, how tall the building is, where are the entrances, how suitable the walls may be for climbing, where blind spots might be for those within the building, what the roof is composed of, and should someone get up there, whether footing might be reasonably stable?

DM Mitch Friday May 19th, 2023 7:41:16 AM R.J. looks upward with a growl to see if there is anything he can spot Dapple remarks that she thought only monkeys flung poo. Grim Ripr asks what gremlins look like as he doesn’t want to kill a monkey by accident and keeps an eye out for potential poo missiles. Ezekiel casts mage armor while joking about the poop deck and readying his new wand. Marest doesn’t want to wear any poo and also keeps an eye out Siolo gets some cold iron gear and hides from the poop throwing gremlins. Yofiel gets some cold iron gear and inspects the house.
The party can choose their time of attack, though I’m defaulting to about midday, a little after lunch so there is less risk of anyone losing their appetite or their lunch. Rothlorian describes the gremlins as tiny, hairless creatures that look like the world’s ugliest bipedal dog. RJ spots the one who threw the poop quickly ducking into full cover while snickering to itself.
Marest inspects the home. It’s a modest home with two floors. There are a few windows on both floors, each with securely bolted shutters. The shutters have seen better days, leaving small gaps that arrows or poop can fly through. The entrance is a double door and she notices it’s open a crack - suspicious. The walls look reasonably climbable -brick, but with windows and other features that might make it easier (DC 15ish).
The obvious and easiest entrance would probably be the front door. There’s a small porch that gives the party cover while outside it and you could easily rush to the porch with little danger. There are several blind spots the party could approach from the back or sides. From there they could try to climb to get to an upper story window, though with at least one, possibly all, of the enemy being up there it would mean starting the fight while hanging from the wall outside the window. There are also a few downstairs windows the party could also try which may take a lockpicking or str check to break into but don’t look particularly secure against either.

Grim has been couped up too long and all this standing around watching poo fly at them gets on his patience. He quickly surveys the house: windows here and there and a front door, maybe a back door, sums up the entry points.
Getting in through the windows is not practical so that leaves the door. The disease affect his coordination some but not his strength.
"A trap huh? is it a trap if you know its a trap?" he grumbles, then finds a 150lb weigh chunk of debris left from the Thunder Gods' attack and charges the door with it, stopping 5' from the door and heaves the rock at it.
Notes: Grim's max carrying cap is 300lb, his gear and stuff weights some 80lbs so a total of 230 lbs should be easy to deal with. Tossing the 150 weight at a large door 5' away should be easy enough.

OOC: i was looking at the Break Items rule rather than the Sunder or Bash, but use your best judgement, if nothing trips him up before he gets there. If he feels tripped up, or otherwise impeded, give him a Dex check to see if he still toss the block and go with the roll for whatever distance he is from the door when that happens.

As not full information was provided based upon Yofiel's lap around the edifice, I am going to assume there is a chimney or some structure up on the roof that a rope might be tied off to. If so, the bard animates her knotted rope, and commands it to loop about and tie to whatever looks solid enough up there to sustain the rope and a climber or two. If there is a fireplace, one would assume the wall with the chimney has fewer or no windows, unless it is an internal chimney.
Regardless, she will find the spot with the fewest windows, and climb to the top. (DC 5) Climb: 25 (nat 20). Looks like she scrambles up pretty efficiently. Prior to the climb, anyone near her she lets them know about the scaling device.
Her plan, having seen what windows were where throughout, she thinks to figure out which one might be the better to think about crashing through, rope-assisted. Will wait until we are provided additional insights before effecting the next move.

He asks if it is a trap if you know it is a trap and finds some heavy debris and chucks it at the door, unfortunately he fails to take down the door. (OOC break DC 23, hardness 5, hp = 20) Marest casts spectral hand and tries to disappear into the shadows Siolo watches Grim and ponders about problems hammers and nails. Dapple crouches as Grim hurls his rock and hopes that anything flying out of there will go over her head. Yofiel loops her rope around the chimney using animate rope and prepares to swing through one of the upper windows, having climbed up the building. (OOC: everyone else appears to be on the ground, are you sure you want to try to swing into a building using one of the windows that is off the ground, while all the party are on the ground?)
With the building across the street also being infested, RJ's best bet for a vantage point would be on top of the porch. It would let him fire in through one of the windows and flank the enemy. He’d probably have to open one of those shutters though - it will take a DC 10 disable device to slip a knife in and move the catch or a DC 10 STR check to get good leverage to yank the thing open despite the latch. With Yofiel’s rope it’s easy enough to climb to the roof then down to the top of the porch. You can attempt a stealth check to unlock it without alerting the enemy inside so you can fling it open and open fire once battle is engaged.
The DMs didn’t think to put a chimney on the combat map but there probably is one. It’s too small to squeeze down though - it doesn’t get very cold here and it’s mostly to let smoke out when cooking inside. Her rope will provide easy access to the roof but it’s sturdy and well made to not blow away in the frequent bad weather here so it won’t be easy to break into from above. I have no idea what it might be made of - roof stuff.
The door is unlocked and slightly ajar so the big rock easily pushes it open. As it does so a bucket, precariously balanced on the lip of the door falls to the ground spilling urine and feces all over the place. There is a collective groan from the watching Gremlins that no one got covered in it.

Not that they deserve it, but her somewhat soft heart feels they should at least be given a chance and a choice. And, if they make the wrong choice, why, the party can do what needs to be done to rid the town of them another way. "So, Grim - expel, but take them down fully if they will not leave."

The calls for surrender or flight get nothing but laughter and insults from the gremlins. They seem to think your suggestion hilarious and have no intention of leaving.
With the door open the party can see inside a little. The place is a mess. All of the furniture has been has been torn up and the place reeks to high heaven. Filth and bits of broken things cover every surface and all of the light fixtures are broken, leaving only the faint light coming through cracks in the shutters to illuminate the area. The boards in the ceiling are damaged leaving little holes that the gremlins upstairs seem to be using to observe the group. They’re quick and stealthy little buggers though, so if you want to try to hit them while they are peeking you’ll need to roll perception to spot one as they look and they will have 9/10ths cover.

Since Grim is probably going to be the first one through the door, Dapple uses her Bit of Luck ability on him. On his next d20 roll, Grim can roll twice and take the better result. She prepares to move into the cottage behind Grim.
Seeing the position RJ took resting on the roof of the porch below, Yofiel thinks it a good idea. She lifts the rope, walks over to a place farther to the left of the face of the building, and lowers herself to a place adjacent to the leftward window. She carefully works to open the shutter [Str 15], trying to maintain a bit of stealth.
Again following RJ's example, lying prone, she nocks her bow with an arrow with a cold iron point and then, kneeling, carefully aims at a nearby gremlin. If she is spotted, she looses the arrow. If not spotted, she waits a moment.

Rothlorien reminds Grim that getting rid of them means exterminating them as any that survive will just breed like roaches and infest another house in short time.
"Ah, my brain must still be in a little fog. I do remember now, So be it. I'll lead the charge and whoever has the stomach to follow me, see you in there."
Grim grips the iron bar tightly and prepares to enter. Taking in what he's heard about these tricksies gremlins, and the trap just sprung, and that he knows this isn't going to be a surprise entry, he will try to throw them off a bit. He doesn't want to go charging in there only to slip-slide on a bunch of poo that happens to pile up in front of him.
Everyone sees him tense up, then dash to the door. It's only a few steps and then inside. Once inside, instead of keeping a straight path, he quickly sidesteps to the right and holds his ground just inside and up against the wall.
OOC: looks like it would be Z13.
His eyes adjust to the dimness inside and he looks around for ugly dog-things.

Marest makes sure her Smoked Goggles are in place and will postpone casting the Message spell until next round, when she notices the serious lack of illumination in the house. Marest will position herself in spot Y16. She will then cast Dancing Lights creating four glowing spheres of light spaced 9.5 ft apart in the shape of the corner of a square or the 4-spot on a die and they move in a sequence never straying out of position to always be within 10ft of each other. They move to positions V10,V12,X10,X12.
When the first floor is sufficiently illuminated, Marest will try to spot a fae critter using the skills (Perception: 19)

Siolo moves to front door and peeks in as he pulls out his sling and a cold iron bullet. He searches the wreckage caused by Grim for the remains of any crushed gremlins.
The idea of killing causes a bit of a pit in Siolo's stomach. He's never killed another sentient creature before.

Grim Ripr remembers what Rothlorean said about the Gremlins and tells the others he’ll lead the way and whoever has the stomach can follow him. He then grips his iron bar and prepares to enter and tries to throw the Gremlins off by dashing to the door and then sidestepping to the right while holding his ground. He readies an attack and looks around. Marest makes sure her smoked goggles in place. She postpones casting message so she positions herself at Y16 and casts Dancing Lights creating glowing spheres. After the first floor is sufficiently illuminated she tries to spot a Fae critter using her skills. Siolo doesn’t feel great about killing these things.
As the party begins to advance something starts to feel off. Nothing specific, but small things start to go wrong - if you do not have a luck bonus and are within 20 feet of an enemy (I think that’s everyone) then you must roll all d20s twice and keep the worst roll.
As Yofiel climbs up the porch gives a bit of a groan. It is not built to hold people and might start to break if any more weight is added.
The enemy proves far too quick and with far too much cover to spot for any of the party (cover gives them +10 to stealth giving them +28 - unspotable even on a nat 1 by the enemy). However Grim’s luck blessing proves key as he rolls just high enough to spot an area of floorboards where the nails have been removed and they seem to be carefully balanced over a 10x10 section to conceal something. Probably another nasty prank by the evil fey. Added pit trap and Grease to map. DC 20 disable device to remove, DC 10 acrobatics check to jump over, or DC 20 reflex to avoid falling in if you fail the jump (Don’t forget to roll twice and keep the worst roll unless you have any luck bonus!)
As RJ and Yofiel try to peek through the shutters without being spotted they get a good look at the enemy. Rothlorian’s description was fairly accurate - the creatures look like bipedal shaved chihuahuas. They’re running around squeaking to each other in the fey language as they monitor the party below, showing no interest in heading down to confront them.
Suddenly a pair of Gremlins jumps up onto the window sills the two are peering through. ”BOO!” they shout in unison before stabbing down with knives as large as they are. Neither are able to do any damage, weapons failing to penetrate armor/clothing (5 and 7 to hit) but it is incredibly startling.
We have entered combat rounds.

Grim doesn't see any of the gremlins inside on the first floor so they must be on the second floor. But he does see the makings of a pit trap. He realizes how much Dapple's Little Bit of Luck made such a big difference! Had he gone through the left side and to the left, he'd be in a hole! But as Luck would have it...
Dapple seems to be right next to him again and gives him another dose of Bit of Luck.
"You seem to be in tune with your god, Dapple, we were very lucky not to step into that!" However, instead of pointing to the pit trap, his jaws clamp down on the iron bar so as to have both hands free. Then picks up the recently thrown rubble piece laying in the entrance and tosses it onto the loose boards (at X13).
"THHATTH AUGHTTHT TOTTH DU ITTHTTH!" he exclaims while still holding his iron bar in his jaws.

Yofiel's readied shot fails, and her next one is no better. She moves gingerly to the right, now grabbing the rope to aid in stability and get away from the stabby knife. She is able to hang on to the rope well enough. Once far enough away, the bow simply slides up on her shoulder where it usually rests. The elf will have to wait until the next round to draw her rapier.

DM Mitch House Combat Map Thursday May 25th, 2023 8:06:04 AM Ezekiel goes to cast magic missile but must roll against the SR. Dapple gives Grim another Bit of Luck. R.J. barks at the pug gremlin while firing his crossbow and reloading. Marest casts Message and tells Yofiel and Dapple what she sees. Grim figures the enemy is upstairs, is glad of his luck bonus, and throws a rock down the trap. Yofiel misses two shots and grabs onto the rope.
The rock lands on the boards and they fall inward along with it into a deep pit, landing with a splash. At the bottom there is a big puddle of crap.
The pugwampi facing RJ barks right back enthusiastically. Then the entire pack of the things gather around the windows cackling maliciously and chanting. Their magics flow into the porch and with a alarming groan it shudders then collapses. RJ and Yofiel must make a DC 10 reflex save to catch the sill/rope or fall taking 1d6 damage and ending up on the ground floor in the same area. Dapple must also make a DC 10 reflex save to avoid the falling debris.

Ezekiel attempts another magical missile, this time at Pug 5.
RJ makes the move with ease... until that bad luck field hits the rope and he needs to grab the sill with all of his might (using a hero point to pass the second roll).
Swinging, he fires again at the gremlin (attack roll is 13, damage 3, cold iron, uses ricochet if needed).
Assuming RJ doesn't have a free hand to reload, he begins to look around (Perception 12) for anywhere he can get in the window/on solid ground safely. If he sees a place (drop, climb, etc.), he moves toward there.

Dapple mentions her difficulty in jumping the space across the pit trap to get to the stairs. Grim only takes a second to assess the situation. She's not nearly as heavy as the 150lb piece of rubble and should be easy enough to toss across the diagonal gap (from Y12 to X11).

Yofiel already is holding on to the rope. She grabbed hold of it last round as she figured that one or more of the pests was likely to come out on the porch awning and cause it to collapse, anyway. She holds on quite well, thank you, then pushes off the wall, trying to get closer to RJ so he can take hold of the rope, too. This action is not quite as graceful, but, perhaps he can grab on as she swings by.

(OOC: roll damage) Dapple hops out of the way of the falling debris and tells the others that the Gremlins are in the front of th building and if they make it up the stairs they’ll be behind them. R.J. makes the move with ease until the bad luck hits his rope and he needs to heroically catch the sill with all his might. He swings and fires again at the Gremlin and then looks for a place he can land. Siolo steps back and loads his sling flinging his missile at pw2 only to see it miss. Grim Ripr offers to toss Dapple across the chasm or failing that attempt the gap himself. Marest moves her lights. Yofiel is already holding the rope.
The gremlins, laughing, slam the window shutters cutting off view of the top floor. That leaves the only place to go down for RJ and Yofiel - it’s a bit less then a 10 foot drop so they can get down safely with a controlled drop (vs falling with the rubble uncontrolled). Or they can use the rope to try to climb in through one of the unlocked but closed shutters, though that will leave them in a 5vs2 fight.
On the ground floor Grim’s throw and jump are successful, assuming Dapple accepts the help. The Gemlin’s positioned it well, putting it next to a wall so someone has to jump over the entire hole instead of jumping over just a corner (the wall couldn’t be seen because of the brown, changed pit trap color to yellow).
The little monsters seem happy to wait for the party upstairs so that leaves two options. Jumping the pit trap and climbing the greased stairs (I believe Ezekial can dismiss that though) or climbing the rope and attempting to enter through the window. Both options lead to choke points where someone can be ganged up on, but with the rope it’s only a simple DC 5 climb to the unlocked window.

"What do you say?" he asks Yofiel. "Why don't we show these guys they're playing with the big dogs now."
Barking and yipping, he moves to the unlocked window and reloads once inside.
Marest seeing the house and its dimensions (using previous & current checks), move the Dancing Lights to the second floor spaced 5 feet spaced evenly on squares: AJ11, AL11, AN11, AP11 in hopes of projecting the positions of the gremlins onto the window areas considering the information Yofiel provided.
Marest will use her Spectral Hand to cast Ghoul Touch on the gremlins in the first window area AH13.

OOC: I was going have Grim run up the stairs despite the grease. I was looking to see if he would know about the grease at the top of the stairs. I could not find how Ezekiel could have known about the stairs or have line-of-sight to get the grease there. However since Ezekiel dispelled the grease, I guess Grim can charge up the stairs ignorant that there was any grease there. Also, didn't notice that the wall extended to close where Grim was going to jump. Thanks for moving it along. Thicker lines for walls? :)

IC: Perception +6 = 11 A quick look into this part of the house does not reveal anything unusual. Grasping the iron bar from his jaws, he quickly heads to the stairs and on up. Move 1= 30' to W8

A quick look to pinpoint the enemy: Perception + 6 = 13
The commotion is to his left where three ugly doggy things seem quite agitated at something outside the window. Sirmising that's where his friends are trying to get in, he lets them keep those three busy while he takes on the two on his right. Move 2 Part 2 = 25' (to AI11 via diagonal AK9,KJ10)
He hopes their attention is focused on the outside but has little hope of not being heard. (no stealth attempted but no hollering or extra stomping either)

She takes out a feather from a pouch, and activates it, transforming it into a Feather token, whip[A token that forms into a huge leather whip and wields itself against any opponent desired just like a dancing weapon. The weapon has a +10 base attack bonus, does 1d6+1 points of nonlethal damage, has a +1 enhancement bonus on attack and damage rolls, and a makes a free grapple attack (with a +15 bonus on its combat maneuver checks) if it hits. The whip lasts no longer than 1 hour.]
She tosses it about 10 feet away, and has it start attacking whoever RJ may be flanking.
It does 2 hp damage, hitting ADC 15

Siolo hurries over to the rope. "I'm coming!" he says as he drops his sling. When he grabs at the rope, he misjudges the distance and hits the rope instead. He then curses under his breath.

Marest uses her spectral hand to cast ghoul touch on one of the gremlins Dapple accepts Grim’s help and gives Grim another bit of luck Ezekiel dismisses the grease since it seems to be hindering his friends more than the fae Grim Ripr runs up the stairs and after some of the Gremlins opting to let his teammates continue to handle the fae they are keeping occuppied. Yofiel climbs in the other side. Siolo has a little trouble climbing up.
As Grim runs up the stairs something small and black starts to rain down on him. It takes a moment for it to register that whatever it is is crawling on him. And biting. Spiders. Thousands of them. Those that don’t fall on him as he charges past chase after him, swarming over his body and biting.
The miniature mandibles munch into him and he takes 2 damage, along with a dose of poison - DC 11 fort or take 1 STR damage.
The one near the window closest to Grim run up and stab him. The blades turn out to be blunt and large for the creatures but they connect for a total of 1 non-lethal damage.
Meanwhile RJ is surrounded by the things. Two distract him while the third stabs him somewhere tender (rolled 2 19s to crit and confirm, 22 vs AC with their bonus). He takes 2 non-lethal damage.
The left window is closed, and the creatures are no longer standing on the sill. Between them being short and the height of the window anyone outside no longer has direct line of sight to them.

The whip at AM11 lashes out at PU6, hitting AC 19 for 5 hp damage (adding to last round's AC 15 for 2 hp damage).
Foot on the windowsill, Yofiel steps between (and over) RJ and Pu4 to AQ12. Rapier in hand, she stabs at Pu4. Her stab is straight and true (AC 22, confirmed crit), causing rather severe damage to the vital organs of the twisted, nasty fae (9 hp damage).

Yofiel’s whip continues to lash at PU6 and stabs Pu4 with her rapier, Grim put up with the rats so he’ll put up with the spiders though not for long and he swings his club at Pu3, doing a decent amount of damage. Marest takes a trouble move to AP14 and asks Yofiel if her rope is usable. RJ growls at PU 1 and attempts to bite the creature only to see his jaws fail to connect. Yofiel tells Marest the rope is usable and reminds folks what her rapier is made of.
With most of the enemy down or paralyzed you’d think they’d have the good sense to run but it seems the dark fey are too caught up in things to even notice. PU 1 and 6 continue to stab at RJ and land 1 hit for 1 damage.
The spiders abandon chasing Grim to go fill the space at the window where the party is more grouped up. This draws an AoO from Grim and the whip but lets them do 1 damage to RJ and 3 to Yofiel and poison them both.

Dapple climbs the stairs, cautiously, as she doesn't want poo flung at her.
The dancing whip takes an attack of opportunity against the spider swarm, hitting AC 28 for 6 hp damage. It next lashes out at Pu1, hitting AC 18 for 6 hp damage.
At AQ12, Yofiel saves vs poison (12 vs DC11), leaves the spider swarm, going wide until she reaches AN11, and thrusts her cold iron rapier into Pu6 for 5 hp damage. "Yep, that is cold iron. Very cold iron. Don't mess with us," the bard says to the stinky gremlin.

Marest learning of Yofiel's rope being where she thought it to be, grabs hold and climbs to the second floor stepping onto the window's sill. Next round Marest will cast Vomit Swarm!

Yet again he tries to grab the rope and climb it. He gets ahold of the rope but struggles to get his feet situated. With persistence, he finally manages to climb the knotted rope to get to the second floor of the building.

Grim feels the welts of the spider bites and it is very, very uncomfortable! However he does notice that Pu3 did not react at his attack at all! Did not try to avoid the iron club, nor dry to attack back! The furry dog-like fea creature that makes throwing poo a sport just stares straight ahead, although standing and thus clearly not dead.
Grim holds back from bashing the gremlin's brains in. It is not in Grim's 'normal' nature to brain a helpless foe, specially since it's presence seems more a nuisance than a deadly menace.
Grim drops his iron bar (Free Action), grabs up the helpless Pu3, then with a roar heaves it at the window (A13). Maybe it will break the shutters and fly out, maybe just splat against it and stick!
OOC: don't know if I need a roll to grab the helpless gremlin, but if I do let me know. My fling roll of 7 aint great so don't know how flimsy those shutter's are.

Yofiel’s dancing whip hits the swarm but the spiders are so small that the whip hits only the air in between them. Her rapier finds purchase against the Gremlin though. R.J. begins to feel the poison so he takes a step back, reloads and fires at whatever gremlin is left. Marest climbs up Yofiel’s rope and prepares to cast a vomit swarm next round. Siolo watches Marest climb the rope and attempts to climb it Ezekiel fires an elemental ray at the nearest pug, but he misses as his bolt flies wide. [b]Grim[b] fails his second save against poison and it clears his system. He throws the paralyzed gremlin out the window - the shutters were unlocked and fly open.
The Spider swarm seems completely unfazed by the various weapon swings. There are just too many - over a thousand at least - for them to notice a few dozen squashed by a weapon strike. They crawl all over Yofiel and Rj continuing to bite. Yofiel takes 3 damage and RJ 6 and both are poisoned again.
The poison is fort save DC 11 and does 1d2 STR damage. I forgot to roll the STR damage last round - it is 1 for last round and this round.
The last Pugwampi strikes out at Yofiel, managing to poke her for 1 non lethal damage.

Grim feels the spider welts and discomfort start to subside as Pu3 vanishes out the window and he hears the expected 'thump' when it hits the ground. He moves to the window and yells out to Rothlorien down below, 'See if you can tie it up or something. We might could use a captive or two to bargain with the others'
He turns his attention back inside and sees a small blast of fire erupt in the other corner. "Think I'll wait till the smoke clears,' he grumbles, scratching at some spider bites, and retrieves his iron bar.
Marest seeing the chaos and fire erupting on the second-floor slides down the rope and take a 5-foot step away from the house.
Pivoting, Marest points to the last position she knew Yofiel & RJ were in and says, "What are you two doing? Any of the Pugsters left standing?"

She encourages R.J. to run away Grim Ripr suggests that someone tie up one of the Gremlins for use as a bargaining chit captive. Seeing the blast of fire he figures he might wait till the smoke clears. Marest takes a 5 foot step away from the building and asks Yofiel and RJ what they are up to. Siolo rushes into the room. Dapple also has some alchemists fire. Ezekiel tells the enemy they should get hit.
The last Pugwampi is down and the swarm has a good chunk of it burned away. The spiders still aren’t done yet though and they damage RJ a little more (1 damage, DC 11 fort vs 1 STR damage)

Now that RJ is out of the way, Dapple, at AO10, hefts one of the flasks and tosses it rather nicely (AC 19 ranged touch attack) to land right in the middle of the spider swarm at the point of intersection of AP12/AQ13.
"Too cool, spideys? Here's this to warm you up." The initial splash's damage is somewhat mitigated perhaps by first having to overcome the frost (1 hp fire damage to the central core of spiders), however, that same damage is equitably distributed to all areas within 5 feet of the splashdown point, so the whole mass of spiders (all 4 cells) takes the damage. Is that the same as 4 hp total for the group? Up to the DM to call it.
Regardless, next round the spiders will suffer an extra 5 hp fire damage (unless they all take a full round action to try to extinguish the flames, in which case they can make a Reflex save DC 15), after which point the alchemist's creation will have done its all.
Marest watches and waits for her friends to rejoin her. Pointing and asking her friends, Marest tries to learn who it hurt and how badly. "Who is hurt? Poisoned? Burned? Blasted? Bleeding? Also, what are we doing with the Pugsters?"

If Yofiel's whip does as she requests, and if the spider swarm is still active, Dapple will wait until either the swarm has moved, or all died, or the whip has properly rescued RJ backpack, then, wherever the swarm is (if still alive) will toss another alchemical fire flask whatever portion of the swarm does not include one of her fellow friends.
Keeping in mind that it is this (new) round in which the swarm will suffer 5 more hp of fire damage from Dapple's last-round alchemical fire, then this round her ranged touch attack of AC 14 will add... hmf, 1 more hp of fire damage beyond that, with 1 hp splash damage to the rest of the swarm.
However, again, if the swarm is already defeated, the cleric will NOT throw the flask.
DM Mitch House Combat Map Saturday June 3rd, 2023 7:35:03 AM Yofiel suggests R.J and Siolo keep space between themselves and the spiders before telling her whip to attack it again to no avail. Ezekiel casts a ray of frost on the spider swarms but is wide with his aim. R.J. drops his pack and reloads his crossbow Dapple disperses the rest of the spider with the alchemical fire. (OOC: I believe the way it works is you pick a spot and if you beat a specific DC the spot takes full damage and surrounding squares take 1 splash. If you miss the DC then your aim is off and another square takes full and other squares take splash but for the purpose of this combat I’ll say you hit one of the spider squares for 1.5 x damage. Marest tries to find who among her friends is hurt and how Grim says they were told to clear the house of the things and throws one out the window. Siolo is ready to use an acid flask to finish the job, but the job is already finished so he can save it.
As the last of the spiders burn or flee things calm down some. Well they do here - from the yelling and crashing from across the street Rothlorian is still fighting over there. That leaves the party with a small pile of dead or unconscious gremlins to deal with. Some seem to have bled out from their wounds but most are merely beaten unconscious. That leaves the question of what to do with them - on the one hand they haven’t really done anything but play some practical jokes on people. On the other their bad luck aura and they initiated the combat by viscously stabbing at RJ indicates some malicious intent. What to do with them?

[By the way, DM Mitch, earlier in the combat, despite the one gremlin falling due to the fire from RJ, Yofiel and the whip still would have stabbed & whipped it. Rothlorian had instructed us to 'eliminate' them. So that one likely is dead, too.]

When Grim tosses the second gremlin out the window he realizes no one is out there to deal with them. He hears the sounds of battle from across the street and impulsively climbs out the window, drops down to the ground (hangs from the windowsill then drops), and goes across the street to see if he can help Rothlorien.
If the door is open he peeks inside, otherwise he peeks through a 1st floor window.
Acrobatics check to soften fall d20 -3 = 6 fail to soften the fall dmg d6 = 6
Grim's still a little clumsy and lands on some porch roof debri and finds himself flat on the ground. A bit humiliated, he picks himself up brushes the dirt off.
Marest points to the location he believes most of his friends are in and states," I can stabilize any of them Pugsters you think deserve to survive at least long enough to get some useful information out of them...just toss one out the window..."
If his friends listen and toss a critter out the window, Marest will cast Stabilize on the critter tossed from above, which for her is a cantrip and stabilize the critter. Since it's a cantrip, she can cast it all day long...

She climbs down as Marest attends to the pair of defenestrated pugwampi. She uses her second rope to tie up the two critters.

She then summarizes who is the most injured for Marest. Grim tosses a second gremlin out the window and realizes no one is out there to deal with them. He hears the sounds of battle and then drops to street level, walks across the street and peaks in a window. Marest is ready to stabilize an enemy if requested. Siolo reflects he didn’t do much here and tries to put out the alchemist fires. Yofiel says they shouldn’t throw any of the enemy out the window if they want to keep them alive for interrogation.
An examination of the gremlins show only two actually survived their wounds, both upstairs. They are stabilized and tied up.
Grim finds the door kicked in across the street. A few dead gremlins and a pit indicate that Rothlorian faced stiffer resistance downstairs. As he looks around a upper story window shatters and a body flies out of it. Rothlorian pokes his head out and sees Grim. ”I’m just finishing up, be right down. Stay there - I avoided a bunch of traps you’ll trip over.” he tells Grim.
After about a minute Rothlorian comes downstairs, easily hopping over the 10 foot pit. He looks like a complete mess, covered in blood, crap, and other unidentifiable substances. ”I take it you guys finished up. Any problems?”

It only takes a short time for Rothlorien to make it back to the street but when he does he sees Grim holding up the severed head of one of the gremlin's he had tossed out the window, bloodied falchion in the other hand. If it wasn't dead before, it is now.
He throws his head back and emits a loud howl in honor of the dead gremlin. The Great One oversees even the fae creatures in the jungles and Grim's e's not going to accidentally leave one out.
When the howl is finished, he stuffs the head in his backpack.

Yofiel says she isn’t sure if the fae wanted to kill them or just mess them up real bad but the place is stinky and floor boards need to be repaired upstairs. She also helps Dapple to heal RJ. Marest asks if anyone else needs patching up R.J. thanks everyone for the healing but explains that the spider poison has him concerned. After retrieving his gear he suggests it isn’t their call as to what to do with the captured Gremlins. Grim holds up the severed head of a dead gremlin and lets out a howl to the Great One before stuffing it in his pack. (OOC: I hope you clean that thing once in a while, I mean sticking severed heads in packs seems awfully unsanitary) Siolo asks the unconscious enemy why they do what they do.
As people are patched up and the prisoners brought out Rothlorian raises an eyebrow. ”Normally I’d be all for not killing, but in this case it’s necessary. Fey are not mortal and bound to their nature, and these are bound to spreading misery and bad luck. They also seem to multiply in some unknown way so even a single survivor can lead to reinfestation later.” He draws a blade, clearly ready to do the deed himself, but waits for the party’s answer to his words.
Dapple had previously been hoping to find Brother Cadmus’s potion and tincture recipes. They had not been found at the chapel but the party was told this used to be his house so it might be worth searching it for anything of use.

He grabs up one of the unconscious one and lops its head off. "Anyone else want a trophy head? Now's the time to get it. May not get the chance again!" he bellows.
OOC: Grims does clean out his backpack. The head will be put out to dry. It will be clean of any meat in short order due to 'environmental factors' and then the sun will cure the skull.

With a shrug, he fires his crossbow into the next of another gremlin.
Marest walks up to RJ and checks for poison using her Craft (Alchemy) skill DC 20. Since that doesn't seem to be in the card for her right now, will try casting Detect Poison on RJ looking to see if he has been poisoned. Once cast on RJ, she tries to determine the exact type of poison with a DC 20 Wisdom check. (Wisdom Check: 15)
If RJ is poisoned, Marest casts Delay Poison on RJ granting him a 2-hour period of poison delay.
As for killing the Mudpies, Marest says" I'm all for tossing them off the plateau. They will be given a 50/50 chance to survive...and maybe with their bad luck aura, they have a better than 50/50 chance!"

DM Mitch House Combat Map Wednesday June 7th, 2023 8:34:03 AM Ezekiel goes to stand over there Dapple invites the others to help her look for Cadmus’s recipes. Grim lops off another Gremlin head and offers it to the rest of the party. He reflects on the cleaning process of his collected skulls. R.J. watches grim and fires a bolt into another gremlin. Marest isn’t having much luck with her alchemy skill so she casts Detect Poison on RJ but she fails to identify the exact type of poison. She detects poison and casts delay poison. She also voices support for chucking gremlins off the edge of the plateau. Ezekiel joins Dapple’s search Yofiel winces as the executions are enacted and volunteers to help with the search.
Rothlorian nods and puts away his weapon as the gremlins are dealt with. The house search is a bit unpleasant but fruitful - the Pugwampis made a mess of everything and plenty of paperwork was destroyed, but some very helpful notes were found. Some of it covers what Dapple already knows of potion making but it will help others pitch in to any crafting efforts. They also find a variety of useful potions and items.
A few days pass, and various projects are pursued. Construction begins on some watch towers to give the guards a better view of the area much as Grim suggested. It’s slow work and will probably take a couple of weeks but the foundation is laid. Timothy, the blacksmith, finishes his first set of test gears. They don’t work, but it’s close and he’s clearly improving quickly. Any projects the PC’s start get assistance from some of the townsfolk to help speed things along. Overall it’s a relaxing few days of rewarding work.

Marest tries again with RJ, checking for poison using her Craft (Alchemy) skill DC 20. Once again, that skill doesn't seem her best right now, will try casting Detect Poison on RJ looking to see if he has been poisoned. Once cast on RJ, she tries to determine the exact type of poison with a DC 20 Wisdom check. (Wisdom Check: 6).
Knowing that RJ was poisoned by the spider swarm, Marest casts Delay Poison on RJ granting him a 2-hour period of poison delay.

Grim is a bit disappointed that no one else took a head. 'How are these people going to survive here if they keep ignoring the Great One?' he ponders as he flicks the head in his backpack. He doesn't need two but...
"I'll take care of these bodies. I'll dispose of them in the forest where they can feed The Great One's Blessed,' he boldly says and takes out a 50' coil of rope from his packpack and ties one end around the ankles of a gremlin. He keeps tying gremlin ankles with that rope until he only has a foot of length left to grasp or has tied all the gremlins. (so you have the tied gremlin ankles about a foot or two apart.)
He then heads into the forest dragging the tied dead gremlins along, orcish mind thinking about what to do with them.
No one sees Grim the rest of the day nor that night. (of course, anyone who wishes can follow)
However, as the day dawns, the villagers find 10' poles, firmly stuck in the ground, lined along the perimeter of the village, space evenly so the whole perimeter is covered, each one with an impaled gremlin.
If asked about, or if such a sight brings criticism, he boasfuly explains, "You want a protective ward around the village? This is the best. Bad luck followed the gremlins in, and gremlin bad luck will plague anyone that dares enter without permission. Beat THAT! HA!"
He then goes about helping cut and trim good poles suitable for the guard tower legs.

Siolo secludes himself for the rest of the pugwampi day. He racks his brain trying to figure out what he can do to help. After a few hours, he realizes he may be able to gather information using the magics of the circle.
The next day he prepares his magics and delves slightly into the nearby wilderness to find the most clever of the animals to speak to.
((I was thinking I might be able to use survival to find animals to use speak with animals with. Using wild empathy as essentially gather information. Finally, prepping a hide from animals to retreat if things turn dangerous.))

Though Kazzor has gone in pursuit of a dragon - or something like that - yet his house still is here, offered to the group to dwell in, and to build up, Yofiel focuses on that. She reviews the plans she had discussed with the minotaur and others, works a couple days to model and tweak the design here and there, then builds a list of materials, sketches building plans, talks things over with those in the community who seem to have an idea about construction techniques and materials. She aims for a solid foundation of stone for the first ten feet or so of the building above ground, plus another, say, 12 feet below ground. The notion of connecting to the subterranean tunnel system also was discussed, so she plans for two different underground access points - one big enough for people like Grim and Kazzor to pass through, and a second for smaller folks to go through. The latter she aims to have well concealed.
Yofiel also plans for interior defensive areas. Floors: Basement, Ground Floor, First Floor (above the stone), 2nd Floor, Roof - fairly flat (yet angled just enough to allow for rain drainage) and with spots to allow placement of ballistae at each corner and a central catapult on a huge lazy Susan.

Marest looks over R.J. using her alchemy skill being unsuccessful she casts Detect poison realizing that R.J is indeed poisoned but she is unable to determine the type so she ends up casting delay poison on R.J.
Grim is disappointed that no one else took a head. He wonders how folks are going to survive without honoring the great one. He then takes care of the bodies by dragging them into the forest, reasoning perhaps that their bad luck aura could be used against would-be intruders by impaling them on poles. He also takes a share of the treasure in dagger, some arrows and the obsidian
Dapple suggests the scroll is for Ezekiel and gives R.J. a bit of luck.
Siolo goes out to scout.
Yofiel works on plans for making Kazzor’s old home into a nice base for the group. She does not like Grim’s grim display.
The spider poison is fairly minor, doing 1-2 STR damage that will recover in as many days. An anti-toxin or delay poison would help with fighting it off if applied before the checks, but it takes 12 seconds for the poison to run it’s course ( two rounds) so it’s too late for either to be applied. Some basic first aid to reduce the swelling helps make it less painful while the body recovers.
Rothlorian killed about 3 times as many gremlins as the party, making about 24 corpses. Grim’s able to spread them out at the outskirts though they have to be fairly far apart. They are far enough past the general area people are living most people don’t notice until Yofiel complains, and opinions seem to be mixed. It is pretty clear that the bad luck aura does not last past death though, else Grim would have had far more accidents while putting the things up.
Siolo’s able to glean some useful information. It seems that since the group returned most large predators have started avoiding the area, much like they did when the town was inhabited. There are lots of small, clever animals taking advantage of it by making homes where the woods get close to the town. Perhaps he can befriend some as yet another early warning system.
Good progress is made on various construction projects. The plans for the home are mostly complete and some townsfolk offer to help so that can get started. The logs for the watchtowers are cut and the first few laid into position.
After about 4 days (long enough for everyone to recover from any poisoning or sickness ability damage) another storm starts to roll in. The day dawns gray and damp with a slight drizzle occurring, the clouds promising more to come.

Day by day Grim's abilities return to normal as the poisons effects finally wear off. Rest can do wonders. It's not long that Grim notices the bad luck aura faded at the death of the last gremlin.
Grim takes the two obsidian stones and gives them to the craftsman making the ceremonial shaman mask and a small gourd with some more of the tree sap glue.
"Your finishing touch is to add these two stones to the eye sockets. The bonfire light or sunlight will make them glisten and add a very special effect."
Yofiel approaches Grim about the impaled bodies of the gremlins. "When you say 'WE' you mean 'YOU', right? Look if the people want them down, fine, they can take them down. If YOU want them down, fine, YOU take them down. But half of intimidating your enemies is making an indelible impression on them. And this does. Will the enemy really believe it's bad luck to go inside the circle? Maybe not, but then, maybe yes. Especially if you build traps around the area to make it seem bad luck is really all around. Would you think twice on entering if the skull started barking and yelling Get OUT!? Well, it can be made to do so."
Another storm to Grim is nothing. This jungle sees storms everyday in the monsoon season. So much rain that the flat lands become shallow lakes. Good for fishing. So, he goes about his business for the day. Getting long, thick vines to help bind planks and poles. Rope is beggining to get scarce until someone starts weaving more.
Marest will help Dapple ready the temple/shelter before the coming rains.

"I mean me, and others," Yofiel answers Grim. "Your display has gotten mixed reviews. I take no pleasure in such a macabre display. If you're not going to remove it, I will begin. However, I'll leave a few up to honor your efforts, as I cannot gainsay all of your arguments. But I've got other work to do, too." She points to the one closest to Kazzor's house. "But THAT is the first to go!"
She immediately heads over after fetching a crowbar and shovel, and works to take it down. If one or two of the people who have been working with her on the house want to pitch in, she is fine with that.
Yofiel returns to the house of Brother Cadmus and finds a few of the carcasses of the spiders. She finds a sliver of wood about a foot long, impales the spider on one end, and presses the other end about four inches into the soil where the skull post had been. A spider on a stick has replaced the skull on the stick. She gives a crooked smile, winks at her helpers, and says, "Well, Grim wanted to display our downed opponents as a warning. Watch out, spiders!"
She will remove one or two a day but focuses mainly on the group's house. She makes up little songs, little ditties, about the people who are helping with the construction.
In the evenings she meets up with the rest of the group to catch up on what they've been doing. She takes in Siolo's animal conversations.
"Ezekiel, what have you been working on?"

She enlists whoever is around the temple to help her get everything under cover. Ezekiel takes the charm person scroll and heads to the roof of the temple echoing to Dapple that a storm is indeed coming. Grim finds his abilities gradually returning to normal as the poison wears off. It isn’t long before Grim notices that his ploy regarding the bad luck aura wore off with the death of the last Gremlin. Grim gives the two obsidian stones to the tanner’s apprentice he had working on the Shaman’s mask with some more instructions before going about his business being unfazed by the coming storm. Yofiel can’t dispute all of Grim’s arguments so starts taking them down two a day. She replaces them with spiders, though the dead spiders were mostly burned to ash and even the intact ones are about 3 centimeters long. They were dangerous due to them being numbered in the thousands.
As people are preparing for breakfast suddenly the sound of a handbell starts to ring out. Soon it is followed by pots banging together. The sentries have spotted something approaching, something they either know is a threat or at least do not recognize and feel the town should be alerted of.

When Grim sees how Yofiel replaced some of the skewered gremlin bodies with tiny crispy spider husks on toothpicks, he smirks. 'That Yofiel has a weak stomach. Hmmf, and she thinks to live out here?"
As they meet for breakfast, Grim shouts across the table to Yofiel, "Yofiel, if you didn't perform the proper warding ceremonies, then your crispy spideys won't scare an ant," he says smugly. No ward he knows of would have stopped the Thunder God's attacks that day, but he waits to see Yofiel's reaction.
Just as he's about to chomp down on some breakfast, the racket outside starts. He knows what it means as he's familiar with the emergency protocols as he patrolled the town outskirts over the past weeks.
"I don't think they are celebrating the coming of the rain," he blurts out as he jumps up from the table and dashes outside, falchion readied, to see what caused the alarm pots to be banged.

Yofiel had gathered up over the days a total of 8 of the ghoulish trophy poles. She did turn over the heads to Grim. "Maybe these can go with wherever you placed the bodies. Or, whatever."
She was pleased at the help people were giving on the construction of the house.
"So, in my bardic training no one taught me warding ceremonies," replies Yofiel, "involving gremlins' heads on poles. I am just not one who likes to surround the places I dwell with the heads of vanquished foes. If you want to teach me warding ceremonies, though, let me know - not that I promise to apply them. And I was not trying to scare ants. The spiders were a small homage to your artistic endeavor, Grim."
"Ah, what's that about?" the bard asks. "Shall we form a welcoming party?" she asks. She picks up a loaf of bread and wraps a small block of cheese, placing them in her rucksack which then goes on her back, picks up bow, quickly strings it, places a quiver over her shoulder, her belt around her waist with the two rapiers and a few other accouterments, and heads outside.

Dapple makes sure she has her weapons and supplies and jogs towards the sentries. She asks Warrd if there is a chance the rain will hold off until they deal with whatever it is then answers he own question figuring her God loves a good rain fight. Siolo rushes out to find information from the sentries and uses his wild empathy to get an idea what could be out there from the nearby animals. Grim Ripr notices that Yofiel replaced some of the skewered Goblin bodies with Grispy Spider husks on toothpicks and makes a judgement. He suggests that if she didn’t prepare proper warding ceremonies her spiders won’t scare an ant. His breakfast is interrupted by the racket and rushes outside to investigate the alarm. Marest is happy just to watch the rain Yofiel had gathered up 8 of the heads and given hem to Grim. She was pleased the help they were getting with the house. She gives Grim an accounting of what she was doing with the spiders when she asks what the racket is and takes some provisions outside.
As you reach the boundary of Cloudhaven you see what appears to be a wooden woman and she doesn’t look to be in good shape.
“My Gaston. I wish to look on your memorial before I die.” she says in a breathy tone as she collapses on the ground.

RJ, finally recovered from his dealings with the poison, is less than thrilled about this. He still hasn't yet settled down regarding payment for the last weird mission.

"OH, Delilah!" Yofiel exclaims and rushes to her side. "Gaston? Of course - we will take you right to him, to where he lies." She holds out her arm, if the dryad wishes assistance.
Gently, she asks, "Your tree... is all not well? What happened." Then she chastens herself. "I am sorry ... perhaps you think me too forward. Please forgive. The path is this way."
Dapple kneels beside the fallen woman. "She's been without her tree for too long," she says. "I'm not sure we can get her back there in time. Will another tree do?"

Grim is at a loss as to what to do. It took them more than a day to get to that grove. If he had one of their worg mounts, he could take her back in much less time. The import of her survival is not lost on Grim.
"Knowing what kind of tree IS her tree would help. If there is another tree similar to it, that could work."
He waits to see if Delilah will answer Dapple.

Marest, looking at the Dryad, turns to her friends and explains, "Our friend is in dire straights, Deliah has been without her tree for roughly 2 days and she won’t survive another day without a tree! Any tree will do, the older the better, but the ritual takes 24 hours! Dryad's weakness is that they are Tree Dependants - they can forge a new bond with a new tree by performing a 24-hour ritual and making a successful DC 20 Will save. We really have not much time..."
Marest looks around for an older tree close to the fallen Gaston as it would be preferable in her mind. Using her skills in Knowledge (Nature), Marest looks for a suitable tree (Skill Check: Knowledge (Nature) = 29 (NAT 20!)) for Deliah.
Once a tree has been located, she shares this information with her friends and then casts Lesser Restoration onto Deliah temporarily curing 2 points of her Constitution in hopes this will allow her to perform the ritual needed to form another tree bond.
