Me apologies but me player is a little slow today. Let me introduce me self. I am Ian Shadowcrest but some call me Ian Longshot. I be a wee little halfling from around the way. I have come to Drakesmeade for a little sightseeing. I be hearing these dwarves be a welcoming bunch and thought I would head this way and introduce me self. If ye be looking for a man who likes to poke his nose into things and a pretty good shot with a bow then I be ye man. Be warned though that I have a tendency to enjoy a good time every once in a while. I hope to be hearing more about me neighbors in this fine city of Drakesmeade.

You find yourself in the modest (and crowded) office of the caravan company in Thistleport, a bustling city on the outskirts of the Scab. The room is filled with the scent of ink and parchment, accompanied by the low murmur of voices engaged in negotiations and preparations.
The office is adorned with maps and travel posters depicting the scenic routes through the rugged terrain of the Scab. A large wooden desk dominates the center of the room, stacked with papers and ledgers. Behind the desk sits a gnome with spectacles perched upon his nose, his fingers stained with ink as he carefully inscribes details onto a parchment. The gnome seems a bit exasperated to be dealing with so many customers at once. Especially so many with (evidently) the same goal -- to answer the call of the Blackaxe Clan.
Your fellow adventurers, a diverse group of individuals, stand or sit throughout the room, awaiting their turn to speak with the gnome caravan master. Some exchange hushed conversations, discussing their reasons for accepting the invitation to join the Clan. Others quietly inspect their equipment, ensuring they are adequately prepared for the journey that lies ahead.
Amidst the adventurers, the gnomes of the caravan company bustle about, attending to their various tasks. They move with a nimble grace, their colorful attire reflecting their vibrant personalities. Some gnomes are huddled around a large map spread out on a nearby table, tracing their fingers along the winding routes that lead to Drakesmeade Stronghold.
A halfling, with his wiry frame and mischievous glint in his eyes, catches sight of the other adventurers in the bustling office. A smile plays on his lips as he approaches them with a confident stride. His studded leather armor fits snugly against his form, accentuating his agile physique, while his short sword and throwing knives gleam with a hint of danger at his side.
"Ah, greetings, fellow travelers!" he exclaims, his voice filled with warmth and enthusiasm. "Off to an exciting journey, I presume? I have a feeling we may be heading in the same direction. My name is Kethril, by the way."
His olive skin carries a healthy glow, and his short brown hair is neatly combed, showcasing his attention to detail. As he extends a hand in greeting, his quick-witted nature shines through, eager to establish a rapport with his newfound companions. Kethril's charm and easy banter quickly invites others into the conversation.
Meanwhile, the gnome caravan leader, overhearing Kethril's words, can't resist joining the conversation. With a mischievous twinkle in his eyes, he interjects, "Indeed, my friend! The path to Drakesmeade Stronghold is paved with adventure and opportunities aplenty! You'll find no shortage of excitement where we're going."
The gnome caravan master, a seasoned traveler, greets each adventurer with a warm smile as they approach the desk. His voice is melodic and carries a hint of mischief, as he offers guidance on the journey ahead and finalizes the details of their transportation. He answers their questions with a mix of practicality and whimsy, ensuring that they are well-informed about the caravan's schedule and accommodations.
As the adventurers wait their turn, they catch glimpses of the gnomes preparing the caravan outside the office windows. Wagons are being loaded with supplies, sturdy ponies are being hitched, and colorful banners bearing the emblem of the merchant company are unfurled with pride. The adventurers can sense the dedication and care the gnomes put into their work.
Do you have any questions for the caravan leader? For your fellow adventurers? Please feel free to describe your character and RP as you like!

Kaida rocks back and forth on her heels as she waits for her chance to sign up for this caravan trip.
She's a slender gnome of above average height for her race, standing at 3 and a half feet tall. She has a pale complexion and jet-black hair that reach down past her shoulders. Her facial features are delicate and she has dainty pointed ears that peek out from her hair, giving her a distinctly gnome-like appearance.
Kaida is wearing typical adventuring garb: boots, breeches, shirt with vest and a jacket and she has a small backpack that, even small, looks like she is uncomfortable carrying.
Her attention is drawn to the approaching halfling. "Good to meet you Kethril! I'm Kaida" Kaida grins and extends her hand to the man, and shakes his hand vigorously. "Who knows what sort of excitement we'll find. Am I right? So you're heading to Drakesmeade too? I'm guessing you saw the same flyer I did?" She stands there looking straight at him as she awaits a response.
In most places she goes the gnomes tend to be in the minority. It's nice to see so many in one place. Feels a bit like home. "Hmmm. Should probably send a letter home to let them know where I'll be going" she notes to herself.

Nadia gives Stone a final brush down before approaching the leader of the caravan trip. It seems she wanted to make a good and proper first impression.
An average looking dwarven female, Nadia carries herself with a inner strength and calm, her braided red hair marking care with things. She was tanned for a dwarf, but it seems given her companion she perhaps spent more time outside. She carried a pack with her, and a walking stick that ended in a sling.
She would approach Kethril after Kaida did, giving the knowledge they led this trip. " It is an honor to be on this trip. I hear Drakesmeade is a land of plenty. It would be good to ensure the wilds are properly cared for. I am Nadia Silvershield"
She seemed more approachable than some dwarves, given some of the clans did not speak often to outsiders.

Aydi leans against a wall never with his back towards any window or door. He learned his lesson there especially when he is sure someone is out there hunting him. While thinking he rubs his right shoulder blade.
Aydi is a half-elf in well-worn armor with more than one scar that has a story to tell especially the one that starts from just below his right ear.
He thinks well I better fake it, and notices everyone around him and wonders what their stories are. Mumbling to himself “I hope I made the right choice coming here. I do not want to add any more problems to everyone around me”
Aydi reaches into his pocket and grabs the one item that he owns that was once his father’s thinking “let luck be on my side this day”
Aydi up from the wall and walks straight to the gnome in charge smiles and ask “Anything I do to help, so we can get this long journey going?”
Jason Whited - Ian Shadowcrest -- AC 16/14/13 -- CMD 14 -- HP 12/12 Monday June 5th, 2023 10:29:24 AM “Well hello fellow travelers!” quips a tall halfling who comes up behind Kethril. He turns to Kethril “Well met brother. You speak of adventure and excitement then you have found the right man for the job. I am Ian Shadowcrest, adventurer extraordinaire!”
Ian stands tall for a halfling at just 3 feet 3 inches.. He wears leather armor with a shortbow slung over his shoulder. He wears a floppy hat and has a backpack on over his traveler's cloak. His complexion is tanned with blondish sideburns.
Ian surveys the room and begins talking to himself. “Some gnomes, dwarves, and even a shadowy half - elf. This looks like it is going to be fun” He keeps scanning the room till he spots Nadia with the walking stick that ends in a sling.
“Halok jr denthar en liljeg sling vlstjirk?” he yells to her in Dwarven. “Sorry, I should have asked in common if that was a halfling sling staff. My grandpappy always told me not to make assumptions about people. I mean you are a dwarf and dwarves do usually speak dwarven but you could be one of those dwarves who do not speak dwarven. If so then you would not have understood my question since you do not speak dwarf. But do not worry I do so I can talk to all the dwarfs in Drakesmeade for you.”
“Do you like your halfling sling staff?” He asks excitedly. “I used to have one back home where I hunted womp rats in Beggars canyon. I could hit one of those suckers at a 100 yards with my sling staff. Have you ever seen a womp rats? Them are some big ol rats. Live only in Beggers canyon back home.” He looks at her questioningly
“Well if you see one let me know and I will show you how it is done with your sling staff.” Ian begins to turn away but asks “Let me know if you need help talking dwarvish to all the dwarf in Drakesmeade. Maybe they speak common so you will be okay. I do hope you speak common or we are going to be in some real trouble.” He says over his shoulder as he begins to move through the crowd to see who else is here.

A nervous-looking young dwarven woman looks around the room. "What am I doing here? They all look so professional and the most dangerous thing I've shot is a mildly poisonous mushroom." she mutters to herself.
She has long, free red hair, soft features, and she's wearing quite clean traveling clothes without much wear. She is carrying a light crossbow on one shoulder and a lute on the other. Mostly hidden by her cloak is a starknife on her belt. She often touches something in her chest pocket.
When it's her turn at the desk, she carefully examines the papers, then signs "Nora". Realizing this is an official paper, she corrects it to "EleoNora", and noticing there isn't enough space left writes on the next line "Deepmine". She drops the pen on the table and quickly returns sitting next to a wall, hiding her face under her hair. "First impressions, great, and I can't even write my name."
She pulls her lute off her shoulder and plays quietly a well-known traditional melody, not too badly. She sighs and seems a bit more comfortable while playing the music.

Appearance wise he screams "new adventurer" with his new cloak, comfortable breeches and shirt, backpack, and light crossbow. Slight of build and plain of face except for his long nose which sticks out studiously from his face. He also has a prominently displayed symbol of Wardd on his person. This drow quickly moves a platinum coin between his fingers in a practiced motion. An awkward smile is pasted on his face as though he is not at all used to being around so many new people. As he approaches the sign in sheet he remarks to Kethril.
" Hello my name is Hamlin and I am excited to sign up to do adventuring." Hamlin looks down at a little leather bag at his side. "Isn't that right Pally?" At that a fat white rat peeks its head out and squeaks at Hamlin. "Pally says he is excited too!"

An elven man stands in line accompanied by a hound dog. As he awaits for the drow man in front of him, he crouches down to give the dog a treat and speaks softly, "Your doing so good, I know this is more people then your used too." He gives the dog a pat on the head before standing and approaching the table. His white hair and harden expression give away his age but there is a sharpness about his appearance and he carries himself with an air of confidence. He gives a smirk to the halfling, "Aw, the exuberance of youth", giving a quick chuckle, "Hopefully this trip will not have too much excitement." He signs his name and looks around to find an area that he can relax in. He notices the dwarf playing the lute, its been awhile since he has heard that particular melody. He moves to take a seat next to her and gives her an approving nod if she makes eye contact. The hound dog settles in between the man's legs. He is wearing traditional traveling clothing but the chain shirt is noticeable to those around him when he goes to sit. He carries a backpack, a sack tied to his longbow, and a long sword at his hip, all of which look well used. He takes this opportunity to observe the various people that will be traveling in the caravan. Its second nature to for him to make a mental note of who may be useful in fight, for even as he hopes their won't be much excitement, he knows that likely is not reality.

Having arrived with his half-brother, Rúadán looked around. His current gear was not the newest but it was fairly new to him. His traveler’s outfit was fairly typical in its muted earthy brown tones. He was carrying a morning star in his right hand as he had not figured out how to keep the points from gouging his leg when he hung it off his belt. He adjusted the backpack once again, trying to keep it from rubbing the same spot for too long. Then he headed in, might as well get registered, his brother would show soon enough.
The cloak he wore did not move much as it was mostly under his backpack but it still hung down his backside, hiding the dagger he had sheathed back there sideways to the right. The hood he wore up, as it hid his slightly pointed ears speaking of his mixed heritage, that not everyone liked. It also hid is long white hair which was pulled back into a ponytail, which spoke of a heritage that matched his charcoal-colored skin and purple eyes. He paused, to make sure he was not cutting someone off, before stepping up to the Gnome caravan leader. He took the stylus and with well-practiced ease pens his in clean clear stylistic calligraphy. He then blows on the ink to speed up its drying. Once this is done, he says to the gnome, "My brother will be here soon, to sign in as well."
He then nods respectfully to the Gnome and turns steps back outside to await his brother.

Kaida, a tall and slender gnome, responds to Kethril. “That’s right, my dear. I am willing to journey into the Scab and offer my services. It looks like many of us here are!” Kaida confirms that she is going to Drakesmeade, and considers sending a letter home.
Nadia, a dwarf, also approaches Kethril and introduces herself. She travels with a large cat. Kethril greets her warmly and asks if she is a druid or a ranger, given her feline friend.
Aydi, a half-elf bearing a number of scars, walks up to the gnome in charge and offers to help. His name is Lobar Thistle, as it turns out. The gnome caravan master declines the offer, with a smile. “Oh no, we’re being paid, and paid well, to treat you all as passengers, not hired hands! Your job is to enjoy your last night in civilization, such as it is.”
Ian greets everyone and introduces himself. This halfling greets Nadia in dwarven before realizing he may be making unfounded assumptions.
Eleonora plays her lute to hide her nervousness. She does not join the conversation.
Hamlin, a surface drow, also appears a bit out of his element as he introduces himself and his rat Pally.
Aymar comforts his dog, who is not used to so many people. Once he is done with the paperwork, he moves to listen to Eleonora, approvingly.
Rúadán arrives and signs in with the gnome, respectfully deferring to others as he waits. Then the man, with features that may indicate surface drow heritage, steps back outside to await his brother.
Each adventurer in turn -- there must be about 20! -- offers their name and signs in. The gnomes managing the caravan warmly greet the adventurers. They offer them seats and refreshments, ensuring they feel welcomed and comfortable, creating an atmosphere of shared anticipation.
Kethril, with his quick wit and charm, embraces the lively exchange. He reacts with genuine interest and a sense of camaraderie, eagerly engaging with each adventurer as they introduce themselves. His eyes flicker with curiosity, observing the dynamics between the various groups and noting the unique qualities of each individual.
As the conversations unfold and connections are formed, Kethril's natural inclination to seize opportunities and make connections compels him to find common ground with the other adventurers. He listens attentively, ready to contribute his own stories and experiences, eager to foster a sense of camaraderie among this diverse gathering of souls.
Caravan Leader Lobar, noticing the friendly interactions and the eagerness of the adventurers, steps forward, seemingly glad everyone is getting along. With a warm smile, he addresses the group, "My friends, I can see you are all eager to begin your journey to Drakesmeade Stronghold. While we prepare the caravan for departure, please visit our treasurer and pay a conveyance and provender fee of 2 gp each. You must also sign a travelers pledge that you will not exit your caravan wagon while it is in motion, and you will not stray from them when we are parked each night. After the formalities are done, we’ll be on our way."
In your post, note that you pay the fee -- or roleplay your objection. Also note whether you will sign the pledge.

However on the answer to the gnome who offered to show her how to use her stick, she wanders over and jovially says "Thank you for the offer friend, but alas, it is truly just a stick with the sling on top for storage. It is nothing as skilled as your people's devices, though I have heard they require much skill." She demonstrates the ability to seperate them as she talks, as it is not a sling stick, but rather a sling stored on a stick. But she didn't mind showing him his w she had it set up, nothing complex though.

"Nora, Eleonora" she stutters a response to the sudden greeting. She shakes the gnomes stretched hand gently. "I... guess you can." She examines the gnome for a moment, but not seeing anything but sincerity, starts talking more freely. "Yes, I am alone, we got the invitation to our clan and I persuaded mom and dad to let me come. Blackaxes are dwarves, after all. They probably thought I'd turn around before next village, but here I am. But I don't know if they have any use for me, with all these skilled people around", she says, gesturing at the older travelers.
"Oh, I have to go sign!" She jumps up, quickly digs out the two gold pieces and this time signs with more confidence a beautifully rounded signature. She returns to the gnome, explaining: "My parents used to say 'Full name is only for weddings and funerals', and always called me Nora. "I see you have had your fair share of scraps. I have seen my own fair share of battles. Unfortunately some of the most painful scars aren't the physical one." Aymar gives Scout a few rubs around the ears. "Finding support can make all the difference." He lifts his hand up towards the man, "The name is Aymar and this rascal is Scout." After the man leaves he, reaches into his pockets and pulls out a small handful of coins. He pulls the last 2 gold pieces from his hand and puts the rest back. Eleonora smiles at Aymar, and is surprised when Kaida comes to listen as well. She introduces herself to Kaida and starts talking about her family when she realizes she still has to pay. She signs the pledge and returns to talk more with Kaida.
Aymar talks a moment with Aydi before introducing himself and Scout. After a quick prayer to Domi, he then pays his last gold pieces to the caravan master and signs the pledge. He and Scout are committed to this now.
Rúadán is quiet, waiting outside for his half-brother. When Hamlin asks for a loan, he asks what collateral Hamlin offers. And he questions the legitimacy of the fee at all, since he thinks the gnomes are being well paid to transport the adventurers to Drakesmeade. Lobar is clearly flustered by this, and quickly agrees. “Fine, fine, no problem, no need to be rough. I am happy to charge your fee to Clan Blackaxe.”

You get the feeling she's actually being pretty truthful about it all.
Kaida is well impressed by the work of the gnomes. She'd expect no less! Her father liked to tinker too. He's probably like this place.
Once on the wagon, Kaida looks about for her new friend. When she see Nora she gets to her feet and starts to wave and call out. "Nora! Nora! I saved you a seat!" Kaida points to the empty spot next to her.

Looking around Nadia notices how the gnomes are not only pulling their weight with what seems like good spirits and joy (Sense Motive 20), but that their craftsmanship is pretty much unmatched when it comes to the build of the wagons (Perception 14). She marvels at the woodworking, the dwarf in her clearly knowing good and clean lines when she sees it, but she also regrets a small part of the tree that was lost to craft it. But part of her future, at least to her, was to help craft and guide smart stewardship of the land. Sure, she could pursue her father's goal of a good marriage to a dwarf from Blackaxe, but she could both. Couldn't she?
She picks a spot in the caravans that was able to carry both her and Stone, which may be near Ian. Clearly he seemed worried, and so she says, "I think you should be fine traveling with us friend. I am Nadia, and this here is Stonecrusher. You seem worried about your pony, but I feel we should be in good hands. At least as fellow companions to creatures not of our own mind."
If he didn't object or find another partner, Nadia would sit with Ian during the journey for now, given the fact they both required spacing for animals. Where that would place them was unknown, but she trusted the gnomes after such clear handiwork

You must sign the contract before we can go. All people must sign the contract. he blurts to Ian as he waves it around. "Once you sign we can tether your pony to the wagon and get going" The gnome thrusts the contract into Ian's hands. Upon hearing that Penelope will be coming Ian perks up "Great news. I do not know what I would do without her. He signs the contract and plops down next to Nadia. He puts his backpack next to him and lays his bow across his lap. He looks over to Nadia "You know some people call me longshot because I am so good with this," he says as he almost instinctually moves his quiver for easy access. Nora watches the caravan prepararation, trying to get out of the gnome crew's way, generally confused about what she should do, as she feels like she should help but the gnomes clearly have everything going smoothly. When she sees Kaida wawing, Nora runs to her. Nora starts unloading her gear next to the free seat "Do you know how much all of this stuff weighs? I'm so happy I don't have to walk any further. And don't forget this thing", she says and bangs her scale mail, "it's not that bad when sitting, but on the road, oh my. Can't avoid it if you're a dwarf." She climbs on the seat next to Kaida.
"The journey might be nice for lute practise" she says and tries a few finger practises, but when the wagon starts moving and hits the first stone, the practise ends with an upleasant "Sproing!". She giggles to Kaida: "Well, that was less impressive. How about those long versions now?" Nora looks at the horizon and continues her story. "I wasn't a good dwarven girl. I can't mine, can't smith, can't cook, can't carry heavy loads. I found something I like doing when a traveling priest of Flower stayed near us for a while, he gave me the lute and all. For the clan, it was Domi or out. When the announcement came to our clan, I begged my parents that I could go. A more liberal dwarf society, maybe a place for me? They finally gave in after a month or so. Dad gave me the bow, and mom the mail. So their failure daughter left, with her cursed lute and rebellious hair. She runs her fingers through her long, unbraided red hair.
"Sooo... blueberry pie?" she asks Kaida, then continues: "Hey, what's your favourite food? I like mushroom pies, and anything sweet. The more sugar the better." Nora is clearly a good talker, if she just feels comfortable.

Ian is a bit surprised when a gnome approaches him to sign the pledge, and watches as the gnomes tether his pony to a wagon once he has done so. He follows Nadia into a wagon, maintaining access to his bow and arrows as he sits.
Eleonora stays out of the way while the gnomes prepare the caravan, then climbs in the wagon Kaida waves from. She is glad for the seat. She plans on practicing her lute until the wagon starts to move and she realizes how difficult that makes playing. She continues telling her story to Kaida, then proceeds to discussing foods.
Aymar is impressed by the gnomish craftsmanship as he follows Scout to a wagon. When there, he realizes that Scout has chosen to sit near Aydi.
Rúadán talks to Hamlin about the fee, and exits the room again. While he is outside, his half-brother comes and breaks the news that he will not be going with the caravan. Maybe he will be able to join them in a week or two.
Hamlin tries to offer Lobar his rapier to pay for his transit fee, but the gnome looks embarrassed and has none of it. “No, no, the Clan has you covered. You must keep your weapon.”
Nadia takes in the pride the gnomes put into their work and their wagons. She picks a wagon with room for Stone as well, and invites Ian to join them. Stone takes up a good bit of wagon, the seats not being shaped for him.
Kaida complements Nora’s playing again, having genuinely enjoyed it. She explains how she heard of Drakesmeade. She climbs aboard the wagon, waving for Nora to follow.
Aydi notices the gnomes high spirits and considers what may be causing them. As he takes his seat, he thinks he has finally made a right decision.

Ian, Nadia (with Stone), Nora and Kaida find themselves in one wagon. A dwarf and an elf poke their head in briefly, but back away upon spying Stone and how little space remains. Kethril takes their place. Kethril keeps a respectful distance but makes occasional friendly gestures towards the big cat, hoping for a mutual understanding and respect. Ian’s pony walks behind the wagon.
“What’s up with the rule about not leaving the wagon in transit?” Kethril asks those in this wagon. “What if I have to pee?” His grin invites you to speculate.
Aymar (with Scout), Aydi, Rúadán and Hamlin find themselves in another wagon. They are joined by a dwarf and an elf who obviously know each other well. These introduce themselves as Thorn Stonebeard and Windrider. They take the time to work on a comedy routine, seamlessly intertwining witty banter, playful jabs, and storytelling. Bits of this can be heard by the travelers in the neighboring wagons. Their performance is filled with quick improvisation, clever wordplay, and expertly timed punchlines.
“You guys think there will be much call for performers among the dwarves?” asks Thorn. “Everybody loves to laugh!” says Windrider, but the elf seems nervous about it. “Right?” They look at you.
With the rhythmic creaking of the wagons and the comforting presence of their animal companions, the adventurers embark on their way.

I never did find out if this route was straight there or if we had stops in other holdings. It would make sense to, but one thing I have heard is these caravans are vastly different from what one would expect." Ian relaxes, knowing that Penelope is coming. He nods at the others and listens to conversations. He asks Kethril if he has made the journey before.
Nadia watches the others deal with Stone, enjoying it. She introduces Stone and herself to the folks she hasn’t met yet, making a point of meeting everyone, and fully participates in the conversations. She also helps the others interact with Stone.
Nora watches Kaida get familiar with Stone and listens to the conversations. She realizes something, and starts arranging her gear for easy access.
Kaida is impressed by Nora’s armor (or at least that Nora can move in it). She also says that Nora’s too hard on herself. ”I'll bet, once we're in Drakesmeade you'll be invited to stay.” She’s sure the two will become good friends. When others enter, she introduces herself. And she asks to pet Stone.
In the other wagon. . .
Aymar says hello to Aydi and shows some interest when two men of drow heritage find places in the wagon. He enjoys the comedy routine of the elf and dwarf, and is prompted to make his own joke. He asks Rúadán, who seems lost in thought, "Have you joined the caravan so you can fight the Demon toad as well?"
Aydi resolves to offer the drivers a drink in Drakesmeade. He is surprised when Aymar joins him in the wagon, but ends up telling the elf a lot about himself. He reflects on how much these folk are unlike those he knew in Dirt City.
Rúadán is unhappy that his brother cannot join him, and retreats into himself for a while. He is pulled out of it by Aymar’s inquiry. "What is this about fighting a Demon toad?" After that, he starts talking to Hamlin.
Hamlin laughs and claps as Thorn and Windrider perform. He notes there are four adventurers in the wagon, and says that’s a lucky number. He predicts they will be a good team.
Evening arrives, and the wagons make a circle. A campfire is set at the center, and a tasty meal of stew and dumplings is on the menu. All the passengers, adventurers set to travel to Drakesmeade, sit together in a big circle around the fire. In addition to the halfling, elf, and dwarf you have met, you note dwarves, a liontaur, humans, and a bunch of halflings sitting together.
Suddenly, a gnome on watch gives a shout, and the alarm goes up. “Incoming! Large monsters!” All the gnomes spring into action, and weapons are drawn. The decorative finials on the wagons are revealed to be less decorative and more magical than you might have thought -- they start glowing brightly, illuminating the areas within a 60 ft radius. You can see the group of large monsters racing in. Those with low light vision can see them clearly: Owlbears! And as they enter the lighted area, everybody can see the massive growling and hooting monsters.
The gnomes start firing missiles, and flashes of light fly out from the finials, burning the monsters as they approach. You see several go down. One is coming right toward you, and will enter the circle near the eight of you and, you imagine, attack shortly. You have a round of actions to prepare, defend, flee, ready, or attack at range before it is on you.

At the sound of the alarm she looks about to work out the source of the nearest trouble and soon spots the creature. "Owlbears huh? Guess diplomacy is out of the question" The gnome caravans seem prepared for this sort of thing, so perhaps it isn't uncommon?
Kaida will wait and then move up and stand about 10ft behind the front-line fighters (and a bit to the side). She wants to get a good angle on one.

Aymar stands and tells Scout to hide. He makes a quick observation and sees a giant creature bearing down on them. He moves up and positions himself between the group and the creature; drawing his sword. He takes a defensive posture, hoping to give the others a chance to prepare their attacks or to retreat to safety, and attacking the creature to get its attention.

There are owlbears rushing the caravan from several directions. This one races toward you. The finials on the caravan wagon glow and flash. Rays shoot out, striking the owlbears. A couple fall. The one rushing toward you takes two rays but keeps coming.
Rúadán and Ian attack and miss. Eleanora and Nadia use magic to help get ready for the battle.
As the monster leaps between two wagons in the circle, Kaida’s readied Color Spray goes off. The owlbear has a +2 will save, and it rolls a 15, so it succumbs and is stunned for one round. A stunned creature drops everything held, can't take actions, takes a -2 penalty to AC, and loses its Dexterity bonus to AC. That drops the monster’s AC to 12.
Then Aydi and Aymr flank the monster and attack. Aydi hits for 6 damage.
The Owlbear is stunned and is now AC12. It loses its attacks this round.
Keep in mind the +1 to attack with the Bless spell.
Please post for the second round of combat.
Owlbear Attack! (DMs Steve and Cayzle) EXTRA d20+8=10 Sunday June 11th, 2023 10:00:28 PM
[OOC: Sorry, messed up Hamlin's spell. Apologies.]
Hamlin casts a bloodwitch spell on the Owlbear before it gets color-sprayed. The Pox Pustules spell requires a fortitude save. The owlbear's is usually a +10, but for this roll it is a +8 because the DM made a mistake.
It rolls its save and obtains a 10. It fails, and is extremely itchy and sickened! Its AC drops further to 10; if it could take actions, then those actions would be at -2 on all attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks
The events of the turn as posted remain unchanged.

Rúadán comes out from under cover and checks out the dead owlbear. He wonders what parts of the creature might be valuable. After some thought and investigation, he thinks that the pelt would probably be worth gold. A DC12 Survival or relevant Profession check would skin it well enough to be preserved. The claws and beak are worthless, unless perhaps as a trophy.
Kaida is pleased, although she regrets that the creature died.
Nadia is impressed at how well surface drow fight. She makes sure Stone is all right and sees to it he gets some meat. She agrees with others that this was strange behavior for owlbears.
Aydi makes sure nothing else is coming before taking a feather. He wonders about these owlbears traveling in a pack, and whether they might have been fleeing something. He checks the owlbear for old wounds.

The suggestion of a watch is a good idea. "If we're going to set watches then perhaps we try and make sure at least one person on each watch can see in the dark? I mean, I can see pretty well at night, but not as well as some of you. I'd hate to miss anything".

The party wisely sets up a watch during the night. There is a false alarm when some night creature comes by to nibble on the fresh monster meat, but nothing dangerous merits comment.
The next day sees the caravan start off in the shadows of the earliest morning. This deep into the mountains, if a big hill or escarpment blocks the sunrise, it can still be dark hours after the sun has risen on the peaks. Breakfast is cold and hurried, maybe because of the fight last night -- certainly the gnomes do not seem eager to stay near the owlbear corpses longer than necessary.

Once they start the day Aydi will take the time to learn what he can about the adventure at hand. "How long is the trek to Drakesmeade? And what type of dangers will we see on this trek? How to you end up being the primary group that brings people to Drakesmeade?" He will then just focus on the group at hand trying to learn about each individual. Aydi explains to everyone the reason he is on this trek is that he needed to be in a new place and get away.

Spencer Holloway Nadia Silvershield AC 19/13/15 HP 11/11 d20+11=17 ; Thursday June 15th, 2023 8:51:22 AM
Nadia keeps a close eye out for anything strange to appear, but doesn't seem to notice anything she feels is suspicious.
She does offer a prayer to Domi as thanks, but will keep her mind towards Fhorge as he has guided her so far. She even mentions to the other dwarves with them her somewhat strange belief, because she was more curious about how wild Drakesmeade still was.
" Just trying to figure out how welcome I will be. I have heard some clans are funny about who you worship, and I can't quite figure that one out. I worship Fhorge and the natural order. How hard is that to accept?"
MM - Eleonora Deepmine -- AC 18/13/15 -- CMD 12 -- HP 11/11 Thursday June 15th, 2023 9:50:35 AM
When Nadia mentions Fhorge, Nora starts digging in her pocket. She pulls out the symbol of Flower, and smiling shyly shows it to Nadia.
Nora looks forward along the road, then turns to Lobar. "Well, I, I would like to know what happens? What do they expect? Will, will they get angry, if we fail? Do something wrong, like", she says and finishes by showing the Flower symbol again.

"I do know that we be needing to pay attention to our surroundings. I got me a feeling that we are not out of the wood yet if ye get my meaning." he says as he winks at his companions then goes back to watching the landscape for any changes. (Perception 23)

Aymar enjoys the journey and the scenery, its been awhile since he has traveled so far from Emerald City. He often gets lost in his own thoughts but tries to have conversations with the various passengers. Atleast he will know some names once he gets to Drakesmeade. He asks Lobar, "How much progress have the dwarves made on re-establishing the city? Have they had any complications with monsters or other creatures?"

Perception :17 Hamlin spends some time with Ruadan and accepts the cleaned off claw that was offered.
" Thank you friend I really appreciate the gift. That was my first big battle and it was very lucky that I had so many new friends along with me. This is the start of a truly grand adventure"
To Aydi "My name is Hamlin Vastel, I am from Gateway Downs far to the south. I am here to find a new path in life and I praise Wardd that I was given direction to join up with this caravan and meet so many interesting people"
When Lobar passes by he listens to the questions the others pose and decides to ask. "So are these lands as untamed as they seem to be?
RobC - Kaida Shadowplay -- AC 13/13/11 -- CMD 10 -- HP 9/9 d20+2=8 ; Thursday June 15th, 2023 7:58:06 PM
Kaida looks at the cold, unappetizing breakfast. Ugh. She casts a quick Prestidigitation spell to warm and flavor it and then gives it a taste. "Much better!". She offers the same for anyone else interested. When she's done, she grins and slides her leftovers to Stone and then watches him intently.
Kaida is happy to talk to anyone - and usually does. While Lobar is visiting she'll ask all sorts of personal questions to break the ice (Got any family? Are you from around here? and that sort of thing), before turning the topic to more current issues. "So what's the deal with the magic that shoots from the top of the carriages? Do you often have to resort to those defenses?"
She doesn't remember reading anything about having to fend off possible owlbear attacks when she paid her 2gp.

DJ – Rúadán – Male Human-Elf – AC 12 / 12 / 10 – CMD 12 – HP 7 / 7 Thursday June 15th, 2023 9:19:00 PM
Rúadán answers Kaida's questions succintly, "Yes, No" and similar responses. He also shares, "You do know that the Gnomes were unethically charging folks for passage, because in their own words they had already been amply paid by the Dwarves to do just that. I brought this up and they immediately backed down. As such I do plan to bring this up to the Dwarves as they ought to know what kind of unethical behavior is being done by those that they hire. Frankly I think you should go and demand back your payment, as should everyone else that they fleeced."
That said this is not a topic that Rúadán keeps to himself, and he encourages anyone who had gotten fleeced to demand their coinage be refunded immediately. Especially since, everyone had to participate in defending the caravan and even some of us had been severely wounded. Which again we had to help keep them from dying. Rúadán seriously felt the Gnomes were being way less than ethical and above board and was sharing this while also keeping a full record of the consistently unethical behavior in order to turn a final report over to the Dwarves when or if they even arrived at their final destination.
His personal thought was, 'We cannot trust these Gnomes, as they are up to no good.' As such he was keeping a close watch on what the Gnomes were and were not doing.
Mountain Home (DMs Steve and Cayzle) Thursday June 15th, 2023 10:27:42 PM
Rúadán asks Lobar if the owlbear attack was unusual. He presents each of his new friends with a cleaned owlbear claw.
Lobar answers, “The Scab is not a tamed land, no indeed. I would guess it is the second most likely place in the Wold to see strange goings on. Monsters behaving odd-like. Powerful immortals meddling. It is not safe here. No, I never heard of an owlbird flock before, but I’m none surprised neither.”
Aydi asks about the trek to Drakesmeade – how long is it, what dangers are there, how did the gnomes get the route? He explains to his friends that he is going to Drakesmeade to find a new place.
Lobar reiterates. “Look, it is so dangerous that the dwarves where you are going don’t even go outside, unless they are armed and ready for a fight. Why do you think you all are going there? They need help!”
“As for us, we make a business of going all over the Scab. That’s what we’re good at, and the people here trying to live civilized lives appreciate it.”
Nadia asks other dwarves in the caravan how welcome she will be in Drakesmeade. She is worried they will not approve of her worship of Fhorge.
But it turns out that the other dwarves in the caravan (there are ... two, Grimgar from Dirt City, who does not talk much, and Makbarad who is the performing partner with the elf, from Plateau City. Neither can say much about Scab dwarves.
Nora shows Nadia her symbol of Flower. She asks Lobar what will happen at Drakesmeade and what if they fail?
Lobar says he does not know what will happen, but you will find out soon. “Don’t worry, lass, they won’t eat you. They have me swinging back in a week or two, and I’ll pick up anybody who turns out not to be a good fit.”
Ian accepts the claw and a feather, to have when he tells the tale of the fight. He keeps an eye out as they travel, worried that they’re not “out of the wood yet”. Aymar enjoys the journey. He asks Lobar how much the dwarves have done re-establishing the city, and whether there have been problems with monsters. “Sure, lots of problems with monsters! That’s why they’re recruiting non-dwarves, no questions asked! Dwarves don’t do that unless they are in a pretty bad way, you know.” Hamlin accepts the claw and thanks Ruadan. He tells Aydi who he is and why he’s going. He asks Lobar about the wilderness.
Lobar says that there’s lots of wilderness. “Pretty much all we got is wilderness. Pretty wild wilderness. All kinds, too!”
Kaida ues magic to make her meal more palatable, and makes conversation. She finds out that Lobar is part of the Thistle family, the same family that owns the trading company, the same that they named Thistleport after. Kaida also asks about the magical protections.
“Sure,” Lobar says, “we need magical offense and defense to make sure we’re safe in the Scab. Like I’m saying, you never know what you’ll meet, and you gotta be prepared for anything.”
Later on, after Lobar goes to chat with others, Rúadán expresses his suspicions. He clearly does not trust the merchants running this caravan.
That day it rains, and the caravan slows. A few stirges make a pest of themselves that night, but the camp defenses make short work of them. The next day sees a few hours of travel, and then you arrive.
At least, you think this is it? Pure wilderness. No fields, no flocks, no herds. All there is to Drakesmeade is this: huge metal gates set into a cliff-wall.
“Welcome, this is your stop!” shouts Lobar. “Here we are!”

Nadia would smile softly and whisper a few words of comfort and solidarity with Nora to encourage her with her worship. Fhorge never struck her as a jealous god, because he always knew who forged the proper path. She even mentions this to Nora, that not all were jealous, because balance was something all understood. Nature was dependent on it after.
Upon arrival to Drakesmeade however, she wasn't underwhelmed, but more curious. She figured the doors would be more, welcome looking?
"I don't mean to be rude, but I figured it would more grand?"
RobC - Kaida Shadowplay -- AC 13/13/11 -- CMD 10 -- HP 9/9 Thursday June 15th, 2023 11:05:54 PM
Kaida isn't fussed about the travel charge and responds to Ruadan. "They may be getting paid just to operate the service, but there may be other costs we're not privy to. Maybe trips to Drakesmeade are an exception to the routes they usually take? 2gp feels reasonable for a ticket. Had it been 200gp, that would be cause for alarm". She doesn't feel concerned by the gnome's business, and isn't going to make a fuss of it. If she's going to be in Drakesmeade a while she's probably going to be seeing a lot of them, and 2gp to build a good relationship with the gnomes is a bargain. "If you're concerned, it might be worth asking a few more questions first before doing anything too rash. If the gnomes and dwarves are long time friends, then any hasty accusation against the gnomes could start you off on the back foot with the dwarves. Not to mention that Thistleport is named after Lobar's family. Publicly accusing him without solid evidence could see the whole town turn against you."
She wasn't sure what to expect of Drakesmeade, but big gates in a mountain seemed about right. "Have you seen anything like this before?" she whispers to Nora.

Rúadán had kept a log as best that he could, of all the goings on with the Gnomes in order to present this to the Dwarves so that they were aware of just how unscrupulous the Gnomes were actually being, in their honorable names. However, until he found someone of import to present this too all he could do is wait and watch. As such he simply just bided his time until gaining access to Drakesmeade proper.

Before Lobar can leave Aydi thanks his for the information and thanks his group for taking us to Drakesmeade knowing if the group had decided to walk the way it probably would of taken much longer with a lot more time of him sitting in a tree on watch. Granted that would be a lot better then what he would of been doing if he had not overheard about how the Battleaxe clan was asking for help. Now the trek has ended and he is finally here. He will take his time looking at the surrounding area and get ready for the real challenge. He looks at his traveling companions and wonders if he had made the right choice he could of just left that first night after the owlbear attack, but what is the fun in that and where would he have gone. He does not really care what the big deal is about the 2 gold he has lost more just trying to survive when he left home. Well that is the past and Aydi will turn around and start heading toward the gate.

Nora smiles at Nadia's comforting words. Further assisted by Lobar's words, Nora looks at her symbol for a moment, then decides to keep it visible, not returning it to her pocket. "If this will get me kicked out, I would never be a good fit anyway".
Mildly surprised, Nora looks around the area near the gates. "I kind of expected the non-dwarves to have spread a bit outside the gates. Yes, it looks very familiar, almost exactly like at home. Strong doors to keep every outside influence away", she answers to Kaida.

He shakes his head and starts to pack his stuff. As he exits the caravan, he gets his first look at the gates, "Hmmm" as he gives a little head nod. Its pretty hard to tell whether Aymar is impressed by the gates or not. He approaches Lobar, if he can, and thanks him for the transportation. He turns to Scout, "Welcome home", and heads to enter the gates.

It is a bit heavy, and if something sturdier than I is available, well... I thought I would ask."
The backpack looks fairly normal, however attached it is a three-footed 1 gallon cauldron with an over-the-top handle. Basically, a cauldron that can be set upon a fire or hung above one.
