Sahabiel Feels good about the grove and greets it’s resident in Sylvan. Panzer Averts his eyes. Zazu .Greets the nymph. Beech. Remains on edge (Polite request duly noted, but I may forget.) Lothlo Lothlo follows Sahabiel’s lead (No apologies necessary. I wasn’t clear enough.) Naithi (Welcome back!) Watches the scene unfold. Nightingale .Admires the nymph and wonders if she’s disposed to be friendly Berotha (CH = Charisma: it’s a temporary stat increase in this instance) Feels instinctively tense, buts refrains from drawing her weapon.
The nymph seems momentarily as tense as Berotha. She flinches at the initial greeting and looks about to dive back into the pool when Sahabiel’s words reach her. She nods cautiously, her captivating eyes dart from one stranger to the other. After an uncomfortable period of silence when it seemed that the stand off would persist indefinitely, she finally spoke. He voice was soft, yet musical; every bit as enchanting as her appearance. ”If you mean no harm, you may approach.” She replied in the Common tongue, but addressed Sahabiel, seemingly trusting her to vouch for the others. She unhurriedly stepped back into the pool, but stayed at the far end, almost knee deep in the water at the far end of the pool.
The clearing really wasn’t that large and the pool took up less than half of it, albeit its boundaries were decidedly amorphous in places. Were someone to stand at the opposite end to the nymph, she would be barely thirty feet away from them.

Panzer, having still only caught a glimpse of an ungodly lovely fey with water making her hair, and presumably anything else she might be wearing stick to her body. Panzer takes off his cloak, which is held in place by Maab's Multihued Moonflower as a cloak pin. and offers it to her, standing at the edge of her pool so as not to invade her space. He sill averts his eyes, even though the tiny glimpse of her he caught before was intoxicating. " Miss I don't want to take advantage of your state of dress...please accept this cloak to cover up." He appears in no way threatening, with his cloak offered in one hand and the moonflower held in the other since he has nowhere to immediately place it.
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Tuesday August 15th, 2023 5:55:12 PM
Sahabiel looks over her shoulder to her companions, and softly asks, "Please behave yourselves as proper guests should, hm?"
To the nymph, she offers a polite apology for having come so close to her pool already before they had even noticed, as well as her thanks for the nymph giving her and her companions license to approach. She smiles and crosses her arm in front of her chestplate respectfully as she lightly bows (a more appropriate gesture in context than a curtsy, as Sahabiel with the touch of the Culverwood obvious in the shade of her skin, and wearing masterwork elven armor, should come across quite the part of a female knight of the forest), "We meant no harm, nor to startle thou, clumsy though some of us may be in comparison to thee. Thine grace is truly as the bards would sing about."
Feeling that the party owes this nymph some compensation for intruding on her, Sahabiel seeks to entertain this higher class of fey by playing into it that nymphs are known to be good with fauna, but have few known powers when it comes to flora. And as nymphs like any fey would usually be at least interested in their own home and its immediate surroundings, Sahabiel can playfully convey questions to the plants that grow around the pool for the nymph, and convey their answers back for her, while making friendly conversation.
When the mood seems like the nymph (as well as hopefully Beech) is feeling at ease, she will casually bring up the upcoming Firefly Ball and see if the nymph has a reaction to it that suggests she might be going there herself?
Assuming Nightingale is willing to involve herself, Sahabiel will make mention of how her cousin is sworn to Queen Maab, and weave her into the conversation to allow Nightingale to get a Charisma check in to move the nymph to look upon them favorably. Assuming the nymph is not actively unfriendly, DC to favorably affect her attitude would be no worse than 15+7 = 22, and since both Nightingale and Sahabiel saved and are enjoying that charisma bonus right now, Nightingale Taking 10 with an assist on the check (Aid Another) from Sahabiel, would come to 23 already.

Living on the edge and making a peace is all well and good, but he has plans for this dark shadow stuff, and his friends aren't gonna be able to talk him out of it, but as long as this nymph don't start singing and charming them like those a couple years ago, he'll remain in the back and let the talking go on.

Sahabiel Engages the nymph in friendly conversation Panzer Galantly offers a cloak to the naked nymph. Zazu .(& Boyo) Thanks the nymph Beech. Beech remained both quiet and wary. Lothlo Doesn’t impair the efforts at diplomacy Naithi Offers recompense for the intrusion. Nightingale .Assures the nymph that they mean her no harm Berotha Doesn’t impair the efforts at diplomacy
The nymph laughs lightly, an enchanting sound that carries delicately across the water. She steps forward and drops down, only her head and shoulders remain above the water.
”Please, retain your cloak.” She again responded in Common. ” The water is the only garment I require.” She added softly. She looked at each in turn, but only briefly before turning back to Sahabiel. ”You are well versed in the ways of the Fey. That will serve you well if you are to attend the Firefly Ball. I say ‘if’, because you cannot go without an invitation. I’m sure that you understand. As to myself – no, I shall not attend. Yes, it is delightful, but I like my pool and – well, I wasn’t invited.” Strangely, that she wasn’t, seemed to delight her.
By now it was clear that the gorgeous creature was not intent on causing harm. She listened quietly to what Sahabiel had to report from the plants. Her calm, quiet attention only served to make her more alluring. After a moment she cocked her head to the side and asked, this time in Sylvan; Why for seekest thou the Ball?” She then smiled apologetically and asked the same in Common that all might understand her query.
Berotha (Jason W) -- AC: 21/13/18, HP: 83/99, CMD: 29 Wednesday August 16th, 2023 2:22:54 PM
Berotha relaxes somewhat as the conversation proceeds and opens up cautiously "We were asked to deliver a message to the Queen. Perhaps we will be allowed to do so even if we do not have an invitation?" She intentionally remains quite vague about the nature of the message, partially for secrecy and partially because she truly does not know much about what is in the satchel.

Beech stays towards the back, and since once again mouths opened and spilled the info about the missives, Beech figured he may as well get it right. Now, where would be a nice place for a party favor.... if it comes to that.... He thinks to himself....
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 20/15/16, HP: 56/56, CMD: 23 Wednesday August 16th, 2023 8:52:07 PM
Perhapse it is the peaceful aura of the grove, or maybe just the respite from marching through the mud, but there is something soothing about the area that makes Lothlo want to stay and chat.
Unfortunately it is work and not pleasure that brings us that way, though I assume the ball must be an event like no other.
However, you seem almost pleased to not have been invited, might I inquire as to why this brings a mile to your face?
Zazu Bridgebuilder (AC24, HP61) and Boyo the bunny (AC19, HP30) (Cayzle) Wednesday August 16th, 2023 9:13:43 PM

Naithi agrees with what the others are saying and adds, I'm hoping to meet the Queen at the Ball because I'm curious to see what she's all about. I've heard a lot of things about her, but I've never actually met her. I want to get to know her and learn more about the world of the Fey that I'm entering because of her. Plus, you never know, I figure if I meet her and make a good impression, maybe she'll want to take me under her wing or something.
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Wednesday August 16th, 2023 11:41:41 PM
Sahabiel is asked by the nymph why for she seeks the Firefly Ball, and she replies, "For duty, I am afraid. Rather than the Ball itself, I and my companions have given a promise to perform a small service for its host. And as we have recently received boon from Her in an unrelated matter, we have reputation we should aim to live up and perform it promptly and perform it well. So what else can we do when a word given and a dignity owed so come together, but hie ourselves there? I only hope we can reach there well in time before the ball, as it would seem the Woods have become slightly more troublesome to traverse recently."
Boon and service. Promises owed. Honor and reputation. In speaking with the nymph, even when doing so in Common instead of Sylvan, Sahabiel makes sure that her reply is in terms that a fey would understand as reasons for doing things, rather than more human concepts like pragmatic needs or mortal politics that may come across as silly to them.
And unlike some of her companions, Sahabiel is not volunteering details about what the promise of service exactly entails or how it came about, thus leaving out any mention of their courier mission and treating that as unnecessary, tedious banalities unworthy of even bringing up in this pleasant atmosphere.

Panzer refastens his cloak and is blown away by all of the information being tossed around. He had once heard a ship captain say that 'loose lips sink ships' an now he knew why. With the smoke crows following them and presumably listening to them they had let the cat out of the bag. Surprisingly none of this bothers him today. Once the nymph had announced that she was modestly covered the Badgerkin had dared raise his eyes. The vision of beauty that met his gaze was astounding. He sat down at the ede of the water and for once in his life allowed the conversation to go on without being hurried along by him. This nymph was radiant amd everything she said sounded like the most profound truth to the fighter. He thought he would actually like attending this ball if the other attendees were like her. Finally at one point he realizes that the group were being rude and no one had introduced themselves. " Pardon my rudeness miss nymph. My name is Panzer, may I know yours?"

Lothlo Notes the nymph’s mood regarding not going to the ball. Naithi Enthuses about meeting the Queen. Nightingale .Blurts about invitations and responses. Berotha Reports the need to deliver a message.
”You ask many questions.” She laughed softly seemingly amused by the varied questions thrown her way. ”Mortals are always in such a hurry. I suppose, that given the way I hear time affects….is that the right word? Well, time runs differently for the Fey.” She stopped and watched a damselfly dance among the reeds before continuing.
”I am, Rhiyaladene. I am happy to make your acquaintance Panzer.” She dropped lower in the water so that only her eyes were about it before rising back up to reveal her swan like neck and shapely shoulders.
”As to the matter of the Darkening; I would not be truthful were I to say that it pleases me. It is a blight that threatens my safety. Yet equally, I believe it is the Nature of things: without Life there is no Death and Death is needful to give Life meaning and fulfil the circle. So, whilst I am opposed to this Darkening and all it’s forces, I accept that it also brings ….balance, of a sort. And, I’m sure that wise individuals such as you are fully apprised of the workings of the Courts. Obviously the Unseelie are far more predisposed to the Darkening. It may even be their work...in part. I confess, I have avoided it as best I can. Now, if I may, I would ask you some questions in turn?”
She drifted effortlessly back a step as she seemed to consider her words.
”I have a good sense of such things, but what proof do you have of your words?”

"Hmm...moonflowers, a fey and a and votary; all very convenient to expediating passage. Yet the chimerakin will not yield a name. Honest, but hardly inspiring me to trust. Rhiyaladene then turned her attention back to Sahabiel.
"You speak our language well; so I believe that you will best comprehend my ....caution. Why? Why would I aid those that might be spies or worse? Who is to say you did not take those flowers from the corpses of champions? Equally the votary, might she not be an imposter? You understand, long have I been absent from the Court. I know little of recent events. The Ball however, is not recent. The stars tell me that soon it shall be unveiled in all its majesty once more." She smiled enchantingly at that, seemingly unaware of the effect that smile had on mortals. "Yet for myself, I am content. I want not the 'more' of men. Enough is sufficient and this..." She indicated her surroundings. "..is enough." She paused then and once more cast a gentle gaze across those assembled at the water's edge.

When I was a big calf, I thought I needed win the trust of no one but could simply suffice for myself. And thus begins a tale that I do not share, for it is my shame."
"I was the youngest patroller on Minotaur island, honoring the legacy of my mother and grandmother before her while bearing the heirloom weapon." She reaches up and holds her great glaive lovingly in two hands, caressing the haft. "I heard reports of a dryad in the wood stirring up trouble. I attempted to arrest her quickly and ask questions later. The dryad resisted and, in the haste of my youthful temper, I escalated the use of force. In heartbeats, she lay dying and cursed me with her last breath: 'Your own blade will betray you.'" Berotha pauses, a single large tear running across the brown fur of her face. "I felt her curse in my heart. It has yet to come to be but I bear my grandmother's weapon still. I do not deserve to evade the curse through cowardice but must pay for my rash violence. In the meantime, I do my duty as well as I can." She straightens up and straps the glaive back to her back.

Lifting her head and meeting Rhiyaladene's gaze, she brings attention to the moonlight bloom that she wears around her neck. "Though long absent thou may have been from it by thine own account, if thou attended the Court before, then thou would know that these gifts would not respond but to those that Queen Maab intended them for. Nor can this be removed from me without mine consent, save of course by She who bestowed it." With a mental command, she makes the light of the bloom glow a bit. "As thou can see, it responds to me."
She smiles. "Which of course only proves that I am indeed the original person to receive this blessing, but not necessarily that I carry no harmful intent in me. But if you would insist on testing me further, it is within my power to, albeit briefly, summon a Bralani to my side - a feat assuredly not possible for those who harbor evil in their heart, wouldst thou agree?"
(ooc: For the mechanics behind this, review the rules for Maab’s Multi-Hued Moonflowers for the blooms, and also consider that using a Summon Monster V prayer to call on a Bralani (which is a an Azata, basically the Outsider version of fey) gives the summoning the Good and Chaotic aligned spell type, meaning people of contrary alignments couldn't cast it)

So when she speaks Common for everyday purposes, I replace 'you' and 'your' with 'ya' and 'yer' to express that she has a noticeable wood elf accent, but in this conversation she is far more into the kind of ceremonial, flowery speech she uses in her religious duties (And when she performs magic through prayer, she speaks her prayers in Sylvan entirely), so it is 'thou', 'thee' and 'thine'. Since out of Elven, Sylvan and Common, Common is actually her third language rather than her native tongue, think of it as that she normally speaks Common affected by Wood Elven dialect, but at times like this, she is speaking Common more leaning into Sylvan, borrowing phrases and honorifics from one language into the other.)

Lothlo Considers how best to establish ‘proof’. Naithi Cites her dryadic blessing as proof. Nightingale Echoes Sahabiel’s words in asserting that the Moonflowers alone ought to be proof enough. Berotha Entrusts her history to Rhiyaladene and reveals the secret of her curse.
Rhiyaladene did not at first respond, not even to Panzer’s outburst. She then smiled sweetly at Berotha. Her smile broadened. She suddenly dropped down to become submerged under the water. Her long hair traced across the surface. Then bubbles erupted. She popped back up, still laughing.
”Oh – hahaha – your faces!” She laughed gaily. It took a moment for her to compose herself. That was aided greatly when she saw that her audience did not seem to share her mirth.
”I’m sorry, but you mortals are always so serious. Of course, the moonflowers are proof enough. There is no need for more. I can aid your passage to the ball; at least to where the ball will occur, for by my reckoning its time is not yet upon us. But, if I may; a word of ….well, a word. You will be at the very heart of all things Fey. It is therefore important that you do not forget how to laugh – even at yourself; perhaps particularly that. Enjoy your brief lives. See the humour in things as well as the beauty. Yet, do not forget that the Dark will ever seek to take you unawares and the Fey….well, we are masters of illusion. Hmm, perhaps my words bring little comfort and only more concern. If so, my apologies.”
She swam, although perhaps ‘glided’ would be a better description of her effortless movement through the water, towards her visitors.
”You were entertaining. I thank you for that. So, tell me, is it that you would move on forthwith? She asked before reaching the shallow part of her pool.
(OOC: Thanks for the clarification and explanation, Esther.)
Berotha (Jason W) -- AC: 21/13/18, HP: 83/99, CMD: 29 Monday August 21st, 2023 10:35:47 AM
Berotha's brow furrows a little at Rhiyaladene's confusing reaction to her tale but nods respectfully. "I suppose I could learn to laugh at myself more. Yes, I am prepared to head to the ball." She looks to the others in case anyone differs on that point.

Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Monday August 21st, 2023 3:36:39 PM
Sahabiel grins, the corners of her mouth moving up and out as she feels laughter coming up for the nymph having played the entire party. Then, she joins in the mirthful laughter, which is honestly a much needed break from the general mood of the journey to get here.
"Ah, I am glad to have been so tricked! Thou wouldst have made me worry the threat of the Dark were even graver than I'd thought, if the Court were truly taking such precaution! I thank thee for reminding us to laugh, considering where to we bend our steps."
"Now as for going into in the very heart of all things fey, I should check with mine comrades that I'm not forgetting anything, though I believe we came as prepared as we are going to be. Indeed, I believe that if ever the bards come to sing of us, they shall say of us;" She strikes a silly mock-heroic pose fitting the mood of laughter- "Forsooth, they sure knew how to land themselves in the middle of it!"
Having not been deaf to what some of the others had answered to the nymph, though it was not the time then to react to that, Sahabiel glances over to Berotha. Walking up a little closer, she softly shares, "Berotha? We should probably have talked about ya bearing a feycurse sooner.. but it is what it is, and as she's already cursed ya to balance out her grievance, that should leave nothing further owed - that's the important bit for the fey - so it should be alright even if we should unexpectedly run into any that know the one ya banished from our side of the veil. Which is a convoluted way of saying, ya are right to not needlessly fear going into the fey realm. I wish our Panzer and Beech understood that better too."
Panzer Braun (David F) AC 28 (T16, FF24) CMD 29 HP 100/100 ) Character Sheet Monday August 21st, 2023 5:55:42 PM
Panzer doesn't realize that he has started towards the Nymph until the cold water begins to fill his boot. This brings his mind from the "angry fight or die" place back to the "surrounded by people you don't wish dead" place. He pauses and takes in his surroundings. The Nymph, Rhiya-something that he couldn't recall because he wasn't interested anymore, was no longer a vision of beauty but a plain Jane ( although still lovely) woman. His fingers were wrapped around the hilts of not the normally used Adamantite and enchanted blades of his trade but the rougher Cold Iron ones bought for times like this. He comes to a full stop, the combat animal that fights to survive warring with the gentler person he had become in the past year of living in a community and helping it thrive. The animal has the blades half drawn in and underhanded grip and is prepared to fight to the death while the gentler part of him is genuinely wondering who makes a joke out of life or death situations. In an instant its over and the blades snikt back down into the sheathes. He visibly pants as he turns his back on the Nymph and steps out of the pool, collecting his thoughts and speaking without turning back around. " I guess that when nothing ever challenges you and you don't need to fight to protect and provide for those you care about, even the most dire situations are a joke. I'm not amused and you are no longer a pretty little thing to be courted and wooed/ Yes we want to move on. Yes we want to go now. Your apology buys you a pass but I do not think it restores the goodwill we had a moment ago." Panzer walks back behind Beech, whom he is sure is also not a happy Taur as he finishes speaking. He leans against a tree as he wills the adrenaline out of his mind and body.
Beech (JohnC) AC 19(23)/14/15,HP 51/51 Character Monday August 21st, 2023 7:03:40 PM
Beech is just as unhappy about what the rest, other than Panzer, are taking as a joke. "You may think of all of this as a joke and a laughing matter. There is a time and place for jokes, but this was most definitely the correct time. You may take us as a laughing matter, most of our group may be willing to play along, but you've had your one and only one chance to prove yourself a trustful friend, and you blew it. I have been being nice, and for me that means not dropping destruction all over the place. You think you may know about us mortals, but you don't know squat and even less about our group. You could have cultivated a true working relationship, now at best, I won't try to blow up your grove, at least on purpose." Beech keeps his arms crossed and well away from the pool, at the edge of the grove, he'll also keep between the fey and Panzer.

Sahabiel Enjoys the trick, confers with Berotha and looks to check the readiness of her friends to travel on. Panzer Is angered by Rhiyaladene’s words. He scolds her for her words and removes himself from her presence as best he can. Zazu & Boyo Shouts a readiness to move on. Beech. Issues a warning, feeling just as angry as Panzer. Lothlo Sees the humour of her words. Naithi Watches on. Nightingale Laughs with the nymph. Berotha Is concerned at the Fey’s reaction to her tale, but assents to go to the ball.
”Fine” Rhiyaladene smiled sweetly. She drifted back a pace and languidly raised an arm gracefully from the water to point at Beech and Panzer. ”You do not get to make thinly veiled threats against me and my grove, but I cede that you’ve taken no action to match your words. Equally, neither have I. Were you to invoke your wrath here, know that it would cost your life. I therefore counsel restraint. I am no Dark Fey that delights in suffering and cruelty and for that you really should be thankful.” She batted her long lashes disarmingly and turned her attention back to Sahabiel and Nightingale primarily.
”Know that I can convey you with immediacy to your destination, but will not do so for those that are arrayed against me. Those two must find their own way – IF they even can, for I suspect the wood will not open its paths for such as they.”
Berotha (Jason W) -- AC: 21/13/18, HP: 83/99, CMD: 29 Tuesday August 22nd, 2023 9:21:58 AM
When Sahabiel approaches her individually, Berotha bows her great head lower to converse in lower tones. She nods to Sahabiel "Indeed it would have been fair for you to know. But, regretabally, it is not something I can bring myself to share easily. I hope what you say is true and the curse will bring no more harm than it must."
Berotha looks concerned as it seems Rhiyaladene is proposing splitting up the group. "Umm... I appreciate the offer of conveyance but perhaps we must stick together? Even if it meant forgoing such courteous expediency..."
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 20/15/16, HP: 56/56, CMD: 23 Tuesday August 22nd, 2023 5:49:41 PM
Lothlo takes a step back and looks towards his companions, hoping they are humbled enough by what just happened to beg forgiveness and possible get a second chance. They are guests in this spot and should have acted as such.
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Tuesday August 22nd, 2023 6:03:32 PM
Sahabiel is shocked by the harshness with which Panzer and Beech respond to Rhiyaladene, in the nymph's own home!
She first nods to the nymph;
"Thou hast my gratitude, but it seems I must at the same time offer an apology for some of the rash words you received from my comrades. Couldst thou.. hold off on the immediacy of that conveyance, while I have a word with those two over there?"
She apologizes to Berotha for having to cut their discussion short in this moment, and then strides over to Beech and Panzer. She gives them a kind of frustrated look...
"Panzer, Beech... please, really. First, I am well aware that ya have a dislike of the current state of the Culverwood.. and yer conviction that the Wood and its creatures are dangerous at the best of times.. but could ya explain to me whatever made you read our interactions here as hostile? And secondly, do ya understand we are not trying to guard ourselves while walking some public road here, we are here because we need seek the privilege of entry to an important place under the purview of the Court, a very likely potential ally when it comes to our troubles with the Dark?"

Naithi, never much with words, watches events unfold. Oh majestic Dryad, we humbly apologize for any offense caused. Please reconsider and let us all attend the fey ball together as a united group. We promise to make amends and learn from this mistake. This was a misunderstanding. To us mortals the ways of the fey are like a closed book. Our hearts are filled with remorse, and we seek your forgiveness. Grant us the chance to mend these bonds and show our utmost respect for you and your realm. We long to dance under moonlight as one harmonious family of forest creatures.
Zazu Bridgebuilder (AC24, HP61) and Boyo the bunny (AC19, HP30) (Cayzle) Tuesday August 22nd, 2023 10:50:09 PM
"Panzer, Beech, please apologize to the nice fey lady. No need to be rude."
"Lady, please forgive my friends. They have good hearts and mean you no harm."
But sadly, if all cannot go, none should. If things remain at an impasse, Zazu counsels that we either find our own way or give up, since that is better than splitting up the party.
Beech (JohnC) AC 19(23)/14/15,HP 51/51 Character Tuesday August 22nd, 2023 10:55:47 PM
Beech looks at Sahabiel, "I have taken no offensive action, I haven't even fingered any spell components. All that I've done is state the truth bluntly and honestly. If the group hadn't been toyed with, we could have built a honest working relationship. Being toyed with for someone's pleasure is not something I was raised to take lightly. I did not intone that I planned any hostile action, nor have I taken any steps towards hostile actions. I've done my best to remain neutral while most of the rest of you have decided to play Fey gamed with her. I haven't even mentioned that we are short on time. She insulted Panzer who was doing his best to be more gentlemanly than I think I've ever observed from him before, and She hurt his feelings, whom I offered my two coppers in support. She has taken offense at words which when seen from my prospective are nothing but the truth....
Oh, and there will be no apology from my lips at least, I've done nothing wrong."

Panzer's ears turn to hear the words of his companions, his friends. His eyes however stay fixed on the woods in front of him. His body reels with the effort of dumping all the adrenaline that it thought it was going to need. With that effort his body sweats and his muscles twitch. His mind though.... his mind is clear as it goes over the only things that matter to him. He recalls digging the foundations of gods know how many houses. His mind and his muscles remember digging the trench and the berm to protect the village from the outside. His mind then remembers the graves that he didn't dig because he was too busy gathering his gear to go to Karri for answers, answers he still didn't have. " I think you should all take the 'nice fey's' speedy trip to the host of the ball and do what you need to do. Find out what you can and maybe then come look for me if I haven't found my way there yet. You have all put in the time to curry favor with ths Nymph and shown your bellies when she toyed with you and mocked you. You paid your dues, now reap the rewards." "I can't apologize becaue all the games and the riddles and all the fey guile , all of that simply disrespects those we have already lost to the darkness. In your heads you are all saying, ' but Panzer you don't generally give a hoot about the normal folks in Freedoms landing. Why care now?' Thing is I do care, and I have shown it when I try to help make things more livable along with the concessions you all have made for 'harmony with the Culverwood'. You've made it ten times harder to shelter the town, to protect them, to keep them warm all for the sake of a greater power that show naught but contempt for your efforts." "That is why the guardian outside this gate is a single solitary fey creature. She doesn't know the joys and the sorrows of community. She doesn't understand the highs of success when the community wind or the lows of despair when the community loses, or has losses." "I haven't done anything wrong. I wasn't amused by her mocking our efforts to help keep the Culverwood light and I said as much She has the power to punish me for my opinion and Beech for his support of me, so let her. Take your win and go do our job." Panzer still does not look back into the clearing. Not at his friends or at the Nymph.
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Wednesday August 23rd, 2023 2:58:22 AM
Sahabiel listens, and answers;
"Panzer.. I am not upset with ya for having an opinion, nor am I at all of a mind that you've not been doing yer darndests to help everyone in Freedom Landing. The part that I don't get, and that I am calling ya out on now, is why ya thought it necessary to come so close to violence that ya had yer hand ready to draw steel? How is this the Panzer I know, the Panzer that taught Fredo to not let himself be provoked into doing exactly that? If yer anger runs over, then let yer anger run over sometimes, but I know ya are better than to do so aimlessly? Cause right now, aren't ya just taking it out on a free fey, in her own home, for far more than of yer grievances than she has anything to do with?"
"Beech... I am born and raised in the Wood, so I am used to it that us mortals are not at the top of the power pyramid to make demands that things go our way only, and compromise and understanding is a necessary part of life. Now, I've never been to a court that wasn't fey actually, but I hear enough about how it is done other places. Remember the waits, all the people we had to talk to, and the hoops we had to jump through before we could be seen by the council at Karri? That much, is not so different. If I wanted to be allowed into the company of yer homeland's people's elders in the place where they meet to decide on matters of import to their prides, how many cultural rules of yer people would I need to show respect to, no matter how urgent my cause or how ardent my feelings about it? Just because ya find it harder to understand the motivations and ways of the fey, will ya hold yerself above showing them the same respect ya'd have shown for those whose ways are closer to yer own and easier for ya to grasp? Ya not thinking as they do, or valuing what they value, is not a wrong on their part."
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Wednesday August 23rd, 2023 4:54:10 AM (long ooc sidenote: I know it is kind of an unwritten Woldian rule that we don't split the party outside of downtime, so the meta is we have to bring them back on board, but I do feel that it has been rather long since Panzer or Beech had anything good and/or cathartic happen for their characters. I am not actually averse to it if we end up briefly derailed from being diplomatic with fey in favor of some event that these characters are more suited for. Note to DM Nick - Panzer's last battle participation did not go well for him, due to him running face-first into a Fear effect at the start of it, and I think David is doing a pretty good job portraying the amount of trauma of the character, even if it may not be convenient for the planned path of the current module.)

Sahabiel Apologies to Rhiyaladene and remonstrates with Panzer and Beech. Panzer Remains adamantly convinced of the truth and validity of his stance. Zazu & Boyo Lives up to the name “bridgebuilder” seeking to bring both sides together. Beech.Maintains his innocence of any wrongdoing. Lothlo Looks to see how his companions will react. Naithi .Eloquently craves Rhiyaldene’s forgiveness. Nightingale .Watches Sahabiel attempt diplomacy. Berotha Explains her secrecy to Sahabiel and is inclined to politely decline Rhiyaladene’s offer of transit.
Rhiyaladene stayed quiet during the exchange of words. She also stayed firmly in the centre of her pool. Clearly time was not the issue for her that it was for some others – particularly mortals.
(OOC: Thanks for the additional information. I would not rush this scene. Take such time as is needful to explore your characters’ feelings and reactions. In many ways this can be as rewarding as a victory in battle. So, over to you :)

IC: Nightingale seems torn, and the look on her face is crestfallen. She walks over, bends down and hugs Panzer. "You are right. You, Beech, all of us have done wonderful and dangerous things. Nymphs are known for this kind of behavior, it is something they are born with, and yes, this one was rude in her attempt at humor. If you and Beech are going on your own, then I'm going with you. You've both pulled me out of the fires, and I'm not going to leave you to roast in one by yourselves!"

Panzer hugs Nightengale back, returning and reinforcing her positive energy. " Thanks" he says softly, before releasing her. He turns to Rhiyaladene and says " I have disagreed with you in your own home when you disrespected those that have paid the ultimate price so far in this conflict against the dark. You seem to take that as an affront and I guess that's your due, same as disagreeing with your rude behavior towards geusts is mine. Way I see it you'll probably close your glen to me as soon as I leave and wash your hands of the matter. Fine. These others have paid their price and bent the knee to your jibes and disrespect, hurry them along as is their desire. I'll do as you say and walk the rest of the way. Not a big deal" Deep inside, Panzer's mind is screaming back that it IS a big deal. The Culverwood has no appreciation for him trying to fight the darkness and only wants to kill him. With the discipline of a warrior he pushes that voice down and steps out of the Nymph's glade and into the woods.
Naithi (JamesD) AC: 19/14/16 HP: 113/114 , CMD = 22 Camalayas AC = 24/18/18 Wednesday August 23rd, 2023 11:39:21 PM
Naithi cannot believe how childish some people are acting. Upset that a fey acted like a fey in it's own grove and willing to put their mission in jeopardy over it. If it gets out that the group failed their mission because they weren't offended a fey and wouldn't apologize, it could burn bridges for the community as well as many some enemies. Besides, as far as she was aware, finding a god wasn't exactly a quick or easy task.... Then again, where she grew up all the gods were dead, so what does she know? Still, it's what all the legends said.
Naithi accepts the offer for transport, placing the groups mission that they accepted as a higher priority than her own feeling on the matter. She's right. We're taking ourselves too seriously. We made a commitment. If we fail to do as we said it will reflect poorly on our town and may hurt our relationship with both the fey and the Emerald Kingdom. I'm not going to risk offering a god over this, especially not the one I follow and who has given us boon. I'll meet you all there and will try to relay the location if I can.
DM: Nick K. And our survey says.....! Thursday August 24th, 2023 6:01:39 AM
Sahabiel Assesses the reactions of the others. Panzer Thanks Nightingale and exits the glade. Zazu & Boyo Assesses the reactions of the others. Beech.Waits to see who will accept the situation. Lothlo Offers to follow Sahabiel’s lead on splitting the group. Naithi Accepts the offer of transit. Nightingale Supports Beech and Panzer in their decision. Berotha Sighs at the bickering
”What is your intent?” Rhiyaladene quietly asked as her heavy0lidded eyes flicked from one to another of those that yet remained.
Panzer could hear nothing now that he was beyond the glade, except the soft susurration of leaves as the wind gentle toyed with them.
It seemed that events were on a knife edge. Would the group seek to find separate paths to their destination? If they did, what would this mean for future relationships and trust within their party, if anything? Likely, these and other questions competed with many other private thoughts as each in turn came to their decision.
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Thursday August 24th, 2023 7:52:08 AM (ooc: I had more words prepared in my mind, but since Panzer has left the clearing I guess that's kind of a mic drop against talking it over, and since we already have people committed to both courses of action, I am not going to try to talk the rest of us out of an already inevitable party split)
Seeing that her cousin is inclined to accompany Panzer, Sahabiel feels that the badgerkin will at least not want for support for choosing to forgo the path already at their feet, but she wishes she did not have to make such a call.
She sighs, before addressing all her comrades -- briefly, or Panzer might get too far ahead of anyone that might want to keep him accompany.
"I know better than to get in the way of someone's time to mourn. We both care for our new home. Even so, the ones dearest to me are still alive and are counting on us to resolve matters sooner rather than later. So let Panzer take the slow road for the memory of those we have lost, I choose to instead make haste for the hopes and dreams of those we can yet save. I have not the authority to decide for the rest of ya, but standing still and wishing for the need to decide to go away will serve none. Proceed as makes most sense to ya, and let us forge ahead."
Sahabiel will join Naithi in accepting Rhiyaladene's offer to transport them, but only after she quicky speaks with Nightingale, giving her a hug and telling her to stay safe and look after Panzer, but also rather importantly, to ask her cousin to hand Waesberos' satchel over to Naithi or to herself, as it would be best to get those letters of reply into the Court's hands as fast as possible rather than detour through the dark of the Culverwood with them?

The dryad remains attentive as you discuss matters and come to a decision to divide the group.
Beech, Nightingale, Panzer and Berotha prepare to head one way, while Sahabiel, Lothlo, Naithi and Zazu choose a different path.
The dryad sighs and shakes her head. "I see half of you opt to affront my hospitality and tested patience. Even the more courteous fraction has neither offered tribute nor presented a gift. Things needn't have gone this way."
"If you have messages intended for the Fairy Queen, you may entrust them to me, and I will ensure their delivery. She holds my allegiance, and I shall personally convey them."
"However, I find no rationale to indulge those of such tender years and strong-willed temperament. I hold no intention of transporting you elsewhere."

Sense motive 14 (apparently we are all still in the Nymph's clearing?) " Nope, you didn't need to insult us with your joke and make things all hostile. She seems to be reading our minds cuz none of us mentioned the invitations that I recall. We danced around it but whatever. Give her the bag and lets be done with this, we have a magical forest to save, or something." Panzer waits for the others to belly crawl to the Nymph and give her the bag. He again steps out of her 'holy clearing' and waits to see what comes next.
Sahabiel (EstherLauren) -- AC 23/11/22 -- HP: 65/65 Tuesday August 29th, 2023 5:44:55 AM
Sahabiel looked shocked - at Panzer more than at Rhyaladene really, and to the latter she bowed her head. "I... understand.", she said with a deep sadness in her voice.
She knew that the only way to honor their promise to see those missives get to the court as soon as possible, would be to give them to Rhyaladene here and now. But that would complete that task, end their status as couriers, and deprive them of the only legitimate reason they had to seek admission into the fey Court.. making this entire journey a waste of time, time that they could already scarcely afford to be away from their besieged home. What choice was this, to sink deeper into failed promises or to fail all those back home that had counted on them to not mess this up. They had needed to gain allies at the Court to learn more of what was going on with the Culverwood, so that they might finally stand a chance of pushing back instead of this string of desperate defenses they had fought to protect the town thus far.
She knew there was little chance of that now, between the impression they had made, and no longer even having a valid reason to seek admission to the Court. The others would have to start over. The others. Her companions. But not her.
She remained silent until the nymph left, then she looked over at Panzer with a scowl before turning her eyes away from him.
"I hope ya choke on that pride of yers - did ya forget that when we sought entry into her glade, the fey expected me to vouch for the rest of ya? What a fool I was to do so. Well, it matters not now.. do not expect my support again. I gave my WORD to the FEY that ya would behave. My honor is in tatters now before the fey, and I will remain here to pay the price for yer disrespect."
With that, their half elven companion turns around and walks back into the glade, and -with perhaps a little extra flourish to remind certain people that she had always bore both the burden of responsibility and the power of being Freedom Landing's highest tier priestess- vanishes into the Deeper realm to tender her apologies and offer reparations.
OOC: Sahabiel has left the party
OOC: Yes, I am aware of the irony that Sahabiel was the only one in the party who was a high enough level caster to both cast Plane Shift and make the skill checks to navigate the fey paths through the Culverwood, so everything she did to secure passage for the rest of the party wasn't even necessary for herself.
Epilogue
Although Sahabiel was not seen again, a few letters would appear in Freedom Landing in her handwriting, as if delivered by unseen fey hand.. One, a glowing letter of recommendation for Ghundit to continue her apprenticeship under the auspices of Sahabiel's reliable acquaintance and fellow priestess Hríw-calen Gildin's group at the Meadow Glade near the Emerald City. Another letter arrived for Naithi, advising her on how to renew the pact with the community of leshy around the grove that the two had started together, now that she would not be able to be there to carry out her part of it. And of course, two other letters were addressed to Limka, urging her to stay strong, and with instructions to use Sahabiel's savings to move to the Emerald City, at a safer distance away from the current instability of the Culverwood - with a vague promise that they may yet meet again... somehow.
If people would ever come out here looking for this nymph's glade again, they might on their visit notice a willow tree overlooking the lake, that nobody could be quite certain if it had been there all along, nor if it always stayed in the same place.
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 20/15/16, HP: 56/56, CMD: 23 Tuesday August 29th, 2023 8:16:50 PM I said before that I could live to be a thousand and never fully understand the Fey, but I fear that even a thousand years would be far to short a time. Lohtlo is at a loss as Sahabiel departs. While he to felt immense frustration with the behavior of his companions, he never expected such an outcome.
Beech (JohnC) AC 19(23)/14/15,HP 51/51 Character Tuesday August 29th, 2023 9:13:41 PM
Beech, having already argued about the treatment the Fey had given them, wasn't going to continue to discuss it. "I do hope you've made the right choice in handing over the missives that we as a group were asked to hand deliver to the Court. And please remember, we were warned that we weren't to trust anyone...." He expects someone to lead the way back home.....
Zazu Bridgebuilder (AC24, HP61) and Boyo the bunny (AC19, HP30) (Cayzle) Tuesday August 29th, 2023 11:32:37 PM
Zazu is fine with handing the messages to the fairy.
The elf is very sad to see Sahabiel go.
"Thank you for your help and for making Freedom's Landing a better place!" Zazu says, now definitely crying.
Boyo nudges Sahabiel goodbye.

She needs to know what's going on and maybe she can give us some direction to look for these Dread beings and those stupid, stupid crystal chunks!"
DM RobC - "Thank you for your help and for making Freedom's Landing a better place!" Wednesday August 30th, 2023 2:50:34 AM
In a tense moment with a Nymph, Panzer expresses frustration over a joke that has escalated the situation. He suggests handing the Nymph the bag and moving forward to save the magical forest. Sahabiel appears shocked, particularly by Panzer's behavior. She realizes that in order to honor their promise, they must give the missives to the Nymph. However, doing so would bring their mission to a close and potentially end their chances of gaining favor with the Fey Court.
Sahabiel is torn between failing her commitments and abandoning their besieged home. She decides to stay behind and directs a scolding at Panzer. With resolve, she disappears into the Deeper Culverwood to offer apologies.
Lothlo steps in to apologize for causing offense to the Fey and is taken aback by Sahabiel's departure. Beech voices his hope that the decision to hand over the missives was the right one, while reminding everyone of the warning not to trust anyone. He expects someone to lead the way back home.
Zazu, grappling with sadness over Sahabiel's departure, bravely hands over the messages to the fairy. As emotions run high, Zazu sheds tears and expresses gratitude for Sahabiel's contributions to making Freedom's Landing a better place.
Nightingale, deeply affected by Sahabiel's sudden exit, addresses the group. Through teary eyes, she suggests a course of action: personally delivering the missives to Queen Maab. Nightingale believes that seeking the Queen's guidance could shed light on dealing with the threat of the Dread beings and the enigmatic crystal chunks.
The majority are in agreement for the fey to take the missives to Queen Maab. There's no way a fey would cross Queen Maab so when the nymph says she will deliver them, you can rest assured she will.
Beech is ready for someone to lead the group home. With all that has happened the group need some time to take stock of where they stand and to process the events of the past day. The walk back to Freedom's Landing is quiet as the group reflect on the encounter.
Naithi (JamesD) AC: 19/14/16 HP: 113/114 , CMD = 22 Camalayas AC = 24/18/18 Wednesday August 30th, 2023 12:26:57 PM
ooc: Sorry for the missed post. I'm out if town right now, and Sahabiel's post threw me for a loop as I tried to think of a response.
Naithi's heart weighs heavy with the knowledge that she failed Sahabiel, her actions leading to a disappointing encounter with the fey. How could she have forgotten an offering or gift? Regret lingers in her thoughts as she reflects on the potential missed opportunities and missteps made. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsibility and accountability, urging Naithi to learn from this experience and strive to make amends in future endeavors. She can only hope for forgiveness and redemption amidst the swirling chaos of the fey realm. Despite the weight of her failure, Naithi chooses to focus on the present moment, determined to make things right and regain the trust of her companions. With renewed determination, she strengthens her resolve to contact Maab through her connections with the dryads, sprites, and Leshies. Their whispers guide her towards a path of redemption as she prepares herself for the challenges that lie ahead.
Back at Freedom's Landing Naithi sits cross-legged on the soft grass beneath a towering oak tree. She closes her eyes and focuses her mind, reaching out to her contacts in the fey realm. With whispered words and rhythmic gestures, she calls upon the ancient spirits of her dryad, sprite, and Leshy allies.
Feeling a renewed sense of purpose, she strengthens the bond with her loyal Leshy companions by affirming their pact—a promise forged first by Sahabiel and now continued but her. A pact of loyalty and mutual support. As their energies intertwine, Naithi feels a surge of power flowing through her like wildfire. She opens her eyes, determination shining in them as she envisions the path ahead.
With renewed vigor, she mounts Camalayas and sets off towards The Weeping Grove, confident that with the aid of her fey allies and the strength within herself, she will succeed in restoring the groups reputation due Sahabiel. She also hopes that Maab will once again contact her in her dreams.
If/when the group notices the willow tree over the lake Naithi will create a spot on her grove mirroring the site in hopes Sahabiel can visit or connect her tree to its mirror.
ooc2: Naithi has a connection to the local dryad's and local River Sprites whom she has left gifts and offerings for (I'm assuming no connection with the nyad we just interacted with). Naithi has had Maab speak with her in her dreams when she was caccooned and turned into a morphling as well as meeting her in person.

Naithi hound Beech for dinner and tries to explain the to the others Sahabiel's sacrifice, the full weight of the groups actions, and the importance of choosing your words carefully when dealing with the fey.
Naithi's voice carries, her words laced with fey wisdom. Listen closely, my friends. Fey beings are not to be trifled with lightly. Honor and reputation hold great power in their realm. Offending them can bring dire consequences upon us all. Sahabiel took on the responsibility to safeguard our actions, but we must remain mindful and respectful if we wish to avoid invoking the wrath of these otherworldly creatures.
The thought of grossly offending a non-minor fey should senda shiver down your spine. With the fey, every word spoken is meaningful, even if we might think we said something only in passing, not to be taken seriously. Everything promised, even in the most casual context, to a fey, is to them a binding contract that they will hold you to. And if you slight them, even the benign ones tend to be unforgivingly brutal in their retribution because they do not have a mortal sense of proportions in punishment.
Although I don't think it would have come to it, but after she spoke on our behalf, to defiantly berate and insult the fey forfeited Sahabiel's honor and possibly her life if the fey had demanded it. I don't mean to accuse anyone, not even I remembered an offering or a gift, but I want to make it clear for anyone uncertain why she left. Sahabiel understood she had to take the responsibility for all the offense the party had given, and when she walked back into the glade to disappear, she did not walk out on the group out over a disagreement we had -- she was walking forward to accept whatever would be her fate. Her sacrifice must me honored and respected, sand we must be careful to avoid such mistakes in the future.

Nightingale returns to Freedom's Landing with a heavy heart. She spends time at home, reflecting and finding solace with her cat. Later, she visits The Grove to check on the leshy inhabitants. She meditates on her friend and the disappointment of letting Queen Maab down.
Zazu spends quiet moments at home, studying spells and deep in thought.
Berotha observes the chaos and Sahabiel's departure without intervening. Afterward, she expresses her discomfort with entrusting a mission to a stranger solely based on their word.
Lohtlo walks back to Freedom's Landing feeling dejected. He visits the tavern, catching up on village events and checking on his apprentice.
Panzer returns home, preparing his gear for potential encounters with dark forces.
Back in town, Beech arranges a dinner to reunite the group, recognizing the need to mend their split. He emphasizes the importance of Sahabiel's sacrifice and the gravity of their actions.
Naithi, driven by fey wisdom, speaks up, reminding the group of the significant consequences of offending the fey. She explains Sahabiel's sacrifice and urges the group to honor her and avoid such mistakes in the future.
The absence of Sahabiel is palpable in the village, and while the residents sense that something has occurred they aren't sure what. They know something is up, but the party mood isn't sombre enough for there to have been a death. Talk eventually gets around that she's left the town. For now at least.
The hunters are more than happy to share their recent bounty with Beech, and one of the ladies in town offers a freshly baked cherry pie. "You look like you need it, love"
One by one, the kids in the town find the members of the party and pass on Beech's invitation to join him for dinner.

Panzer wraps up his maintenance and heads to Beech's tree house for dinner. He sits and listens to the others as they faun over how great the Fey are. He remains silent and waits for Beech to bring up why he gathered them all together.
Zazu Bridgebuilder (AC24, HP61) and Boyo the bunny (AC19, HP30) (Cayzle) Thursday August 31st, 2023 9:59:43 PM
At Beech's dinner, Zazu is happy to be with friends, and to have a piece of cherry pie.
When the topic of confirming the delivery of the messages comes up, the trickster can't help but let a little snark creep in. "Well, if only we had someone, like a cleric of the Queen, to cast a divination and just ask if they were delivered ..."
"Oh well."
But later, after dinner, Zazu thinks that maybe it would be best to mend bridges.
"I'm sorry. But we live on the edge of the Culverwood, and some of us were born there, and we just have to make a peace of some kind, with the fey, and within our group. Let's strive for some togetherness?"
Beech (JohnC) AC 19(23)/14/15,HP 51/51 Character Friday September 1st, 2023 1:23:27 AM
Beech lets the dinner be eaten, and a cobbler is served as dessert. While it's being enjoyed... "A few points about what happened. A gift was offered by Panzer and then blatantly rejected. So, I would like people to stop whining over no gift having been offered to the Fey. It not being accepted and then being mocked over it as a joke, upset Panzer, who is even more untrusting of The Culverwood than I am myself, which says a lot. My choices were made because I was not going to let a friend stand alone, and then because I pointed out what I could have done rather than the course of actions I actually took, she got all huffy with me as well. You all know, or at least you should all be able to guess my cure for The Culverwood. It involves a whole lot of Bat Guano. Now, we need to be a team, especially here if we want to prosper. It's bad enough that it's our lives, but we also have the entire village to think about. I haven't found anyone who needs coaching in innate magics, but I check around to spot the tell tales. But even so, everyone in town is sore of like an extended family, just some of you are closer to brothers and sisters I don't have yet, if mom ever decides to have more, I think she thinks one was two too many."
