DM RobC - "I don't know what a 'pocket realm' is, but..."
Tuesday September 19th, 2023 3:56:57 AM

Berotha introduces herself as a ranger from Minotaur Isle and expresses her interest in learning about law enforcement in this realm.

Zazu raises some practical questions, like how to return and the possibility of receiving a blessing from Queen Maab. Naithi considers Zazu's question about returning and hopes to hear Maab's answer before venturing further. Lothlo, the sharpshooter, inquires about the nature of the pocket realm they are entering. He seeks information on the friendliness of its inhabitants, tips for finding lumina berries, and whether tracking Torm's footsteps might be more effective.

Rubalad returns the greetings and introductions from the party. He eyes the portal somewhat uncertainly but volunteers to be the first to go through. Nightingale, eager for adventure, grins and addresses the Queen with respect before stepping through the portal.

To Zazu, Queen Maab provides reassurance. "Pocket realms typically have entrances and exits" she explains. "You won't require any special methods to return here. You'll receive your blessing once you've crossed through the portal" she adds, her smile filled with understanding."

In response to Lothlo's question, Queen Maab offers her advice. "I would recommend tracking Torm. Whether or not you find lumina berries, it's crucial that he attends the ball. As for the disposition of the beings you may encounter, it's akin to inquiring about the friendliness or hostility of the Wold's inhabitants" she suggests.

With those final questions asked and answered, the party venture forward.

-------------

As you step through the portal you find yourself suspended in the air, weightless for a brief moment before gravity again takes hold. Panic sets in as you realize you are falling, hurtling towards the vast expanse of a shimmering sea below.

But just as fear grips your hearts, a surge of power courses through your bodies. Wings, broad and powerful, unfurl in spectral majesty from your backs! These wings take solid form and catch the air to immediately slow your descent. Instincts kick in, and you intuitively adjust your newfound wings, discovering balance and control.

With each powerful beat of their bat-like wings, the party ascends, soaring higher and higher into the sky. The sensation is exhilarating as the wind rushes past their scaled flesh! That wind carries you effortlessly through the air.

The realization dawns - through the transformative magic of the Vales (and perhaps a blessing from Queen Maab), you have become dragons! Your bodies, once mortal and fragile, have been imbued with the strength, grace, and majestic power of these legendary creatures.

-------------
Notes:
- All PCs have had their bodies transformed into the form of juvenile dragons! All animal companions have been transformed into wyrmlings.
- Please take a moment to describe the color and any markings or details of the form you have taken. Note that the colors of dragons in the Wold don't define their alignment, so if you want to be red, you can be red! To keep things from getting too wild, let's limit the colors to the core book though

Ruby, with great trepidation, walks through the portal, and falls! "I hate portals!, he shouts just before the transformation happens, and he is gliding across the air on huge bronze bat-like wings! Dragon-Ruby blinks several times, not quite believing what he is experiencing, and has to take a look along long muscular legs, fleshy crested tail, and hard bronze scales. Twin white stripes of silvery-white scales start at his nostrils and parallel the length of his backbone to end at tail tip.

He looks at the others, trying to find the magicians in the group to see if they can explain what in the Wold is going on!

Lothlo thanks the queen for all her help and steps through the portal, the next thing he knows he is magically flying through the air. It takes a few minutes to realize that the magic isn't that he's flying, but that he's now a silver dragon soaring across the sky on large bat like wings. The flesh of his wings and his belly are a dark crimson similar to his cloak, as are his talons.

Well, this will certainly help us cover more land as we search for Torm. Do you suppose he has also transformed into a dragon? If he did, that could make tracking him a very difficult task.

Naithi's transformation into a dragon fills her with an electric surge of power. Her scales shimmer with iridescent hues, reflecting the colors of twilight. She is a celestial jade dragon, adorned with silver runes along her body that glimmer like starlight. With every beat of her new wings, Naithi feels the wind caress her scales, carrying her higher into the sky. The sensation is intoxicating, and she lets out a euphoric cry as she revels in her newfound form.

Camalayas, now a wyrmling dire rabbit with emerald fur and golden eyes, perches on Naithi's back, her little wings fluttering with excitement as she gets to be the rider and Naithi serves as her mount. Together, they soar through the skies, their movements synchronized in a mesmerizing dance of elegance and power.

Naithi relishes in the freedom of flight, her heart filled with a mix of exhilaration and awe. As she glides through the air, she scans the surroundings, eager to explore this new realm from her dragon's perspective.

DM RobC - "Look everybody! We're flying! And we're dragons!"
Wednesday September 20th, 2023 4:20:12 AM

Ruby, who had expressed his dislike for portals, finds himself transformed into a striking bronze-scaled dragon, his wings resembling those of a bat.

Zazu, on the other hand, is adorned in resplendent gold scales, the dragon form radiating a magnificent glow as the former elf revels in the newfound ability to take flight.

Lothlo, having transformed into a silver dragon with accents of deep crimson, contemplates the potential advantages this change might bring to their quest.

Nightingale emerges as a stunning green dragon, her emerald scales shimmering brilliantly in the sunlight.

Naithi, now a celestial jade dragon adorned with ethereal silver runes, feels an exhilarating rush of power coursing through her as she takes to the skies. Camalayas, perches gracefully on Naithi's back, her diminutive wings fluttering in excitement as she enjoys the unique vantage point of being her companion's rider. Together, they perform a mesmerizing aerial dance, their movements reflecting a harmonious blend of grace and strength.

The entire experience is undeniably exhilarating. Your newly acquired dragon forms respond with grace and precision, the embodiment of flight itself.

Ascending higher and higher, you look down to witness an endless expanse of open water, stretching as far as the eye can perceive. The majestic view from above paints a breathtaking panorama of endless blue, capturing the true beauty and vastness of the world below.

Lothlo puts his thoughts out there: Did Torm also transform into a dragon, and if so, does it make finding him that much more challenging?

Ruby and Lothlo are among the first to suggest that looking for land, where berries typically grow, might be the most logical approach. Ruby is still getting used to being in dragon form and his eyes haven't quite adjusted yet. He thinks he sees something far on the horizon to the east

Berotha, reveling in her golden dragon form, agrees with their assessment and raises questions about whether this is how law enforcement operates on the Peninsula.

Lothlo experiments with his wings and unintentionally finds himself running on a fluffy cloud, prompting him to suggest circling around to spot any clues about Torm's whereabouts.

Nightingale, while having fun in her dragon form, agrees that they should move closer to the ground to search for berry bushes.

Zazu, in the spirit of camaraderie, wonders about a name change to "Valdor" and suggests they descend.

Naithi, meanwhile, wonders if anyone in the group has the means to scry for the berries or determine the direction they should head.

How to proceed is up to the group.

Ruby, the striped Bronze Dragon, feels himself confused by the new body, new senses, and the multi-directional conversation among the Champions. Valdor? Spells? Law enforcement? Torm and Berries? It takes a bit of blinking and thinking before he can put any thought to any of it, but choosing to only address one or two points really helps. He just hopes that he focused on the right ones for the situation.

Angling to keep pace with Berotha, "I don't know about everywhere, but the places I have been, it seems that there are a hundred different ways on how they enforce laws and what laws they enforce. I have done well in taking contracts from reputable nobles or guards to find and return wanted criminals, but had to be careful that I wasn't duped by a ne'er-do-well."

Then the Bronze Dragon raises his voice so all can hear. "I think there might be land in THAT direction."

Having given all the information he is confident he knows, Ruby falls silent and waits to follow the lead of wherever this group wants to go.

Ruby, still adjusting to his new dragon form, shares his perspective on law enforcement practices, highlighting the variations he's encountered in different regions. He then spots what appears to be land in the distance and suggests heading in that direction.

Nightingale and Berotha agree, with Berotha adding insights about the benefits of uniformity in law enforcement.

Lothlo, taking advantage of his dragon vision, concurs that searching for Torm on land is the most logical approach.

Zazu raises questions about the party's abilities, suggesting that they fly lower to look for Torm. The elf-dragon explores the idea of shape-shifting and scent-based tracking, eliciting a few humorous suggestions.

Naithi, meanwhile, seems to be fully immersed in the experience of flying, enjoying the sensation of the wind in her wings.

Ruby thinks Berotha thinks more like him. For all that they are, normally, physically different, Ruby feels they share a similar outlook on life. He continues to fly near Berotha and talk. "It sounds like your land of Imod is all one place, like the Kingdom of New Elenna. They do have one set of laws there. But no one group owns all of the Peninsula. Besides New Elenna, there is Faragunia, Zarthmoor, Alisidur, and the Emerald Kingdom as well as dozens of places with law and rules limited to a Valley, or City, or even just a Farm surrounded by lawless wilderness."

Looking at the approaching storm, Ruby tries to assess how bad it is and if they can fly above or around it. He's not thrilled about 'through' or 'under'. Then he realizes he doesn't have his survival or tracking skills right now! "We could fly to the water and swim until the storm passes?" he suggests without much enthusiasm.

Ruby, still adjusting to his dragon form, briefly experiments with shape-shifting into an eagle and a turtle before returning to his dragon form. He engages in a conversation with Berotha, sharing insights about the diversity of laws and governments across the peninsula.

As they approach the storm, Ruby suggests flying to the water and swimming to avoid the tempest, but Berotha points out the potential danger of lightning strikes and agrees with the swimming idea. Nightingale advocates for flying faster to outpace the storm.

Zazu playfully teases Ruby about his shape-changing limits and suggests swimming as well, but Lothlo highlights the risks of swimming during a storm, leading the group to decide on making a fast flight to reach land and escape the approaching tempest. Indeed, swimming during stormy weather is particularly difficult.

As the storm intensifies at an unnatural rate, lightning begins to flicker within the clouds, casting an eerie, electric glow. Thunder rumbles like a giant's belly growl, warning of the tempest's wrath. Rain starts to fall in heavy, cold sheets.

As the party begins to maneuver around the storm, it shifts its trajectory to intercept the group. Drawing nearer, it becomes evident that the storm is under the influence of a combination of elemental forces, driving it toward the party at great speed - matching (if not beating) the flight speed of some of you.

For instance, they all move a lot faster and further than they normally should (Highlight to display spoiler: {Minor differences in appearances = their stat blocks have been tweaked, and so they're different to the normal ones. Your observation so far is that the flight speed on all of them is greater than normal elementals of their type!}

Rubalad waits to see what the majority of the party plan to do

Lothlo opts to try some diplomacy first, and Nightingale waits to see what happens. There is no response at all from the negative energy elementals who push ahead. Two start circling around the party and one comes straight at Nightingale. Only one of the air elementals responds to the diplomatic efforts. "These lands are ours, defilers! The winds themselves shall cast you aside! There is nothing to discuss" It's voice is accompanied by violent gusts of wind, whistling and roaring, as it vents its anger.

Lothlo could walk on the dark clouds, keeping in mind that they are storm clouds and apparently under the control of these elementals.

Naithi is in two minds as to whether to follow Zazu or to wait and see what happens with the attempts at diplomacy. She prepares to defend herself just in case.

The collective demeanor of these elementals reflects the ferocity and unpredictability of the raging storm, as they move with purpose, circling the party.

Combat is imminent, and Ruby, Naithi and Camalayas are able to strike first. Ruby's breath weapon has no effect (saves passed), but Naithi manages to damage three elementals and Camalayas hits two. (A3, L2 and N3 trigger Naithi's breath weapon. A3 and L2 trigger Camalayas' breath weapon)

A2 targets Berotha and lashes at her with a solid blow! (Berotha takes 17pts damage!)
L2 and L3 make a move against Naithi, collectively landing blows. (Naithi takes 18pts + 10pts electric damage!)

Notes:
- I'm happy for you to move your own tokens on your turn. Just watch for AoOs
- We're going to treat this as a 2D fight/map. Height won't be used as it will make it difficult for everyone to track so we’re going to keep it simple. To keep things fair, you don't need to make fly checks and 5ft steps are fine
- You all retain the ability to speak, but otherwise have the abilities of the dragon colors you have assumed. No other abilities, skills, powers, spells, or bonuses from items. It's up to you if this means your animal companion has now gained the ability to speak. Your PC sheet is now just the stat blocks provided for the dragons in the core rules. Links as follows.

Zazu Bridgebuilder (AC30, HP161) (Cayzle)
Tuesday September 26th, 2023 5:46:44 AM

Zazu's head shakes in exasperation. "You guys!" the draco-elf complains, "I thought we agreed to try to outrun them!"

"You stay here, Boyo. You're too small."

Zazu moves 200 ft closer and casts Mage Armor.

Ruby feels anger, they were just flying here! And the Bronze Dragon growls as the fight becomes general. Take out the wounded, make it more even, he thinks, and his great wings beat as he angles past Naithi and does a Flyby, Power Attack on Lightning Elemental #2. His stretches out and he tears at the being who impudently attacked his companions!

Flying on, Ruby banks and angles around. "This is your doing, elementals, not ours, now you bleed!"

Lothlo flies a few feet away to make sure the nearby elemental doesn't get a opportunity to strike, then uses paralyzing breath towards A1, N2, and L3 before flying away. Should any of them become paralyzed he will instead use the chance to fly past them and outside the wall of elementals surrounding them.

Zazu circles back to rejoin the battle

Ruby determines that picking these elementals off one by one could be the way to go. He flies away from the air elemental in front of him, drawing an attack from it (15ft reach. Ruby takes 11pts damage!). He repays that damage with interest against the lightning elemental

Nightingale backs up a step and breathes acid over the negative energy elemental. The acid works quite nicely at disolving some of the elementals form.

Lothlo backs up, drawing an attack from the nearby air elemental (15ft reach. Lothlo takes 7pts damage!) but it's worth it as his breath weapon catches 3 elementals! (Highlight to display spoiler: {I think Nightingale might be in the way for L3 so I've changed it to target A2 instead, so A1, A2, and N2 - still 3.}). Air Elemental 1 and Negative Energy Elemental N2 freeze in place! He flies safely past the elementals to escape the circle.

Berotha flies a little closer to the action and catches two of the air elementals in her blast!

Naithi and Camalayas keep up their coordinated assault and both hit A3 and L2 with their breath weapons!

Zazu is a little worried that the party might be outnumbered, but things are looking a little better. 2 of the enemy are paralyzed, your breath weapons are able to hit multiple enemies at the same time and they don't have any immunities. Fortunately the damage the elementals are doing - while consistant - isn't overly powerful. Your dragon forms are absorbing it quite nicely.

The enemy act...

A1 is paralyzed!
A2 has Berotha in front of it, and slams into her twice (Berotha takes 14pts damage!)
A3 flies closer and strikes hard at Camalayas! (Camalayas takes 11pts damage!)
L1 circles around behind Nightingale!
L2 pursues Ruby and hits! (Ruby takes 10pts damage but is immune to the additional electricity damage!)
L3 strikes at Naithi! (Naithi takes 7pts damage + 9pts electric damage!)
N1 moves to attack Berotha and misses really badly!
N2 is paralyzed!
N3 circles around Naithi and Camalayas!

Zazu's defences go up, and the gold dragon approaches the ongoing battle more closely. Several elementals will be ripe to receive an attack next round.

Ruby shifts his focus towards the lightning elemental, yet adapting to this new form proves challenging. He manages to land two powerful strikes. (Highlight to display spoiler: {See below. No need to make Fly checks any more :)}

Nightingale elegantly twirls before ruthlessly rending portions from the negative energy elemental.

Lothlo and Berotha encircle an air elemental, pummeling it relentlessly until it dissipates into faint wisps of cloud, signifying its defeat. Lothlo knows that the elementals will be paralyzed for at least another 3rounds minimum.

The enemy act...

A1 is paralyzed!
A2 is dead!
A3 assails Naithi, connecting with both strikes! (Naithi takes 15pts damage!)!
N1 targets Berotha, and the malevolent energy in its attacks inflicts pain (Berotha takes 23pts damage + 18pts negative energy damage!)

L1 assaults Nightingale! (Nightingale takes 5pts damage + 12pts electric damage!)

Naithi angles her breath to catch two lightning elementals and a negative energy elemental! Camalayas tucks under her wing for some protection.

Nightingale is able to catch two elementals in her breath attack, without moving or drawing an attack.

Lothlo tears into L1 and finishes it off. It's no doubt unusual for him to be in such close-combat, but his form is very effective.

Zazu enters the battle: a gold dragon in full health and a breath weapon ready to go.

The enemy act...

With 3 dead and 2 paralyzed, only 4 elementals are able to act!

A3 takes a step closer to Zazu and attacks with two huge fists! Only 1 hits, but it hits hard! (Zazu takes 21pts damage!)

N1 thumps Berotha! (Berotha takes 19pts damage + 14pts negative energy damage!)

Ruby flies in and takes a bite out of L3. It crackles a little in his mouth.

Nightingale goes full attack on the same elemental, but is a little uncoordinated and only lands two attacks

Lothlo loops back to synchronize his efforts with Berotha. Despite his inability to land a hit, his presence provides a vital distraction, enabling Berotha to inflict the fatal blows on the elemental. Suddenly, a charged tension fills the atmosphere, followed by a resounding 'BOOM!' The elemental detonates, unleashing a surge of negative energy within a 50-foot radius, engulfing both Lothlo, Berotha and A1! (Lothlo and Berotha take 18pts negative energy damage! Ref Save vs DC22 for half)

Zazu flies around A3 to get a better angle, and take a hit while doing so (Zazu takes 8pts damage!) The breath weapon catches the two elementals.

Highlight to display spoiler: {I wouldn't normally perform actions for a PC or roll dice on their behalf, however James/Naithi has asked for someone to do so}
Camalayas sees an opening and withdraws away from the combat. Naithi goes full attack on the nearby L3 and kills it!

Only 2 elementals now remain in the fight!

A3 attacks Zazu but only lands 1 hit (Zazu takes 14pts damage!)
N3 is relentless and attacks Naithi! (Naithi takes 6pts damage + 7pts negative energy damage!)

Ruby the Bronze Dragon looks about the sky and sees only two elementals fighting, and Naithi is fighting one of them but looking worse for wear. Angling about, he wings over to interdict N3, putting himself between Naithi and the elemental. "You pick on one of us, you get us all!", he roars and bites at the void.

Wounded yet again, Berotha cannot sustain much more before she succumbs. However, she is unwilling to leave her companions unaided and flies around and straight into danger to blast the two remaining foes with her recharged internal inferno.

OoC: I might take an aoo here but this is how close I need to be for my 40 ft cone to hit both non-paralyzed foes. 68 fire damage and DC 22 reflex for half.

Lothlo manages to roll out of the way jsut in time to avoid the worst of the negative energy.
Having learned his lesson, he waits to see if N3 is finished of if so waits to see if it explodes before advancing to A3 and giving the new elemental a big toothy bite.

Naithi continues to stick with the group as Camalayas does her best to stay out of the way. Realizing her health is running low, Naithi releases another breath attack where it will do the most damage and then begins to withdraw a little ways.

Zazu shifts into full attack mode against the air elemental, while Ruby's impressive maneuvers serve as a captivating diversion.

Nightingale redirects her focus to the paralyzed air elemental.

Berotha and Naithi unleash their breath weapons to devastating effect.

As their combined onslaught unfolds, the air elemental is obliterated, and the negative energy elemental appears severely weakened. In fact, a swift fly-by attack from Lothlo is sufficient to bring about its demise. The elemental detonates, and hurts those nearby. (Berotha, Ruby, Nightingale, and Zazu take 18pts negative energy damage! Ref Save vs DC22 for half)

The remaining two elementals prove to be no match for the party. Your squadron of 8 dragons execute precision fly-by attacks, eliminating the elemental without causing any harm to your group when it, too, explodes. The last elemental, an air elemental, is similarly defenseless against your relentless assault.

The storm clouds, conjured by the elementals, dissipate, returning the weather to its usual sunny and clear state. The landmass is a little over a mile away to the east.

All is quiet and there is no indication that an epic battle unfolded in these very skies moments ago.

Ruby grits his teeth as he takes the brunt of the Negative elemental explosion, but he already knew that was going to happen and that he was better able to withstand it than Naithi. The ripping apart the remaining two paralyzed elementals was as good as a biscuit with his tea!

He keeps an eye out on the skies while in loose formation with the other hero dragons that he has only met an hour ago, ready to support or follow them as they request.

If he is able to better see the land they were flying to, he'll point out the way for the others.

Wow, it wasn't that long ago that I would never have imagined I'd see a dragon in my lifetime, and now I've been blessed enough to feel their strength as my own, even the power of their breath is incredible!

Lohtlo looks around now that the sky has cleared.
We should probably head for land and look for signs of Thom. Besides, anything the looks in our direction will see us coming from miles away with us up here. And since the don't appear to be friendly, it's probably best we get out of sight fast.

Reflex save another nat one! Takes 18 damage.

"Hey! Maybe I can do some treating of these deadly wounds!"

As soon as we land on the beach, Zazu shifts to human form, with nimble fingers.

"Anybody who can find plants to use to bind wounds or make salves, do that please!"

Maybe we can improvise some help.

Zazu has healing +21. With no kit, that's -4, or +17 to hit DC20. If anybody can Aid Another, great!

Healing checks:
Naithi 44/115 check 35 = heals 1/lvl +4Wis
Zazu 100/161 check 27 = heals 1/lvl (14) +4Wis = 18
Rubalad 79/126 check 26 = heals 1/lvl +4Wis
Nightingale 38/115 check 31 heals 1/lvl +4Wis
Berotha 83/99 check 19 FAILS no healing unless Aid Another ... then heals 1/lvl
Lothlo 108/136 check 27 heals 1/lvl +4Wis

Treat Deadly Wounds: When treating deadly wounds, you can restore hit points to a damaged creature. Treating deadly wounds restores 1 hit point per level of the creature. If you exceed the DC by 5 or more, add your Wisdom modifier (if positive) to this amount. A creature can only benefit from its deadly wounds being treated within 24 hours of being injured and never more than once per day. You must expend two uses from a healer's kit to perform this task. You take a –2 penalty on your Heal skill check for each use from the healer's kit that you lack.
