Gnubert walks into the camp, the utter destruction almost makes him regret the words justice, and law. The cleric steels himself as they begin to walk the camp slowly looking for signs of the missing. Gnubert hustles over to Mortimer when he calls out about the possible surviors. The cleric pulls up short seeing the sacrifice of the man, and quickly the cleric channels healing (8 points to all in the area).

GM Jon - Day 4 - At the Camp Friday October 13th, 2023 9:43:12 PM
So several things seem to happen at the same time.
Mortimer and Manolo summon the partys' healers to check on the two children.
Torry, Drack, and Gnubert come to help with laying on of hands, a healing potion, and a channeling of health.
Loryn, Randolf, and Ash examine the ritualistic part, and then look to the woods in hopes of a trial.
For Ash Highlight to display spoiler: { First off, these runes and symbols are evil in nature, makes you nauseous to look at them. The effect of the magic associated with the runes and symbols was to preserve the bodys' for those who discover them. There is a secondary magic attached to them, they act as an alarm, as several runes glow as you approach. The taking of the hearts, that was purely an evil act. It wasn't necessary, but there is a darker purpose to the hearts having been taken. Now that you have the 'scent' of the magic used in the area, you'll be able to follow it, the scent }
Following the children being healed, they both sit up, and then scream in terror ... once it registers that the party isn't more 'monsters', they calm down. When they see Randolf, they surge to their feet and almost knock him off his feet.
After a full minute of crying and trying to cut off the circultation to Randolf's legs, they kids calm down and then dry their tears. "Randolf, they took the girls and Timmy. Collin threw us to the ground when the goblins started shooting at us."
The older looking of the two kids looks at the party. "I know you. Your the group that has been helping our town. The goblins, they, umm, there was something with them ... it was scary. It told the goblins what to do. When it looked at us, it seemed both sad and mad that we were dead. It killed one of the goblins ... I don't know how, the goblin just sort of exploded. That's the last thing I remember."

Ash looks alarmed... " This isn't good at all. First off, these runes and symbols are evil in nature, they make me nauseous to even look at them. The effect of the magic associated with the runes and symbols was to preserve the bodys' for those who discover them. I.e.. Us. There is a secondary magic attached to them, acting as an alarm, as several runes glow as we approached. The taking of the hearts, that was purely an evil act. It wasn't necessary, but there is a darker purpose to the hearts having been taken. Now that I have the 'scent' of the magic used in the area, I'll be able to follow it. If that makes sense."
Torrynashkabbeth (Nick) HP:34/34 AC:18 F10: R11 W:13 Saturday October 14th, 2023 5:08:56 AM
No! She'd forgotten to use her Fey Sight. Why couldn't she remember stuff like everyone else did? Torryn sighed. Practice. That's what Agratha said. it was just a matter of practice. She would get better.
Torryn waited patiently and quietly whilst the children cried.
"What about if Randy takes the children back, along with the cart and the dead - covered of course?" She suggested. "They could then be given a proper burial back in town and everyone would understand the gravity of the situation. There's a big enough trail and we do have magic to aid us in our pursuit. I just think we'll be quicker this way. I was thinking that maybe Loryn and Gnubert could ride on Spot., I'll lead her and she's very gentle."

Gnubert's face fills with sadness as he listens to teh story the children tell. The gnome doesn't even know what to say. As Torry comes up with a plan the gnome can do little more than nod his head. Gods whatever you will is we shall do. However, if I might ask for a little leeway for my companions. I am sure they, and if I am honset me too, may not see justice in the strictest definition when we meet these goblins, and whomever, or whatever is causing this. Please bless the souls of the departed, and bring comfort to their families as only you can. Please Domi, make our quarry a bit slower, and our track a bit quicker. I honor you all."Amen!" Gnubert says as he lifts his eyes to the heavens. "I am ready"

Mortimer listens to the child give their account of what they say. He tries to get a little more.
"Very brave of ya, it was, ta stare down that gobbie boss, he says, trying his best to keep his language salt-free. "You say it looked sad and mad. Did ya notice anything else about it. Like was it tall, like me, or short like the gobbies? Did it have green skin an' pointy ears, yeah, or somethin' else?"

Hearing Ash's explanation of the runes he found, Mortimer looks back and asks, "Ya know the root language those runes were written in? Don't think gobbies can read or write."
AC 13 HP 39/39 Loryn Glitterfall; Dan K Monday October 16th, 2023 11:31:22 AM
Loryn is happy to hear that two of the children survived. That was something and news that other children were taken is, in a way, good news as well. The group also now has confirmation on some other force, an evil one, bent on the area and that very well ties into the story of the witches they heard just a few nights ago. The goblins were being goblins, but the other force was the true threat of true evil in the area.
Tracking magic? Ash finds Loryn shaking his head, No that doesn't make any sense at all he thinks, his body however responds with a nod and "Good work Ash"
Torrynashkabbeth had as fine a plan as any and Loryn agrees, "Good thinking, Randolph takes the children and the dead back to town for care and burial. Ash tracks for us to find the missing and end this evil."
Loryn hellps with the carts as he can and then swings up on his own mount, the giant lizard Dirth, when it is time to go.

OOC: Ok, so there's alot of questions and discussions, so if I miss something let me know
Ash shares his findings on the runes, which sounds VERY unpleasant, and concerning
Torry suggests that Randolf remove the children, and the deceased folks and take everything/everyone back to town, something that Lorynm also supports.
Loryn also thanks Ash for volunteering to track the creatures
Drack announces that they are ready to "go hunting"
Mortimer takes a moment to speak with the girls about the person they saw, the one who was both "mad and sad" a second question concerns the base/root language the runes were written in
Girls' response, "She was pretty at first. Got lost in the woods. She sat close to a couple of the men, which made the ladys' mad. Pretty soon, all the men except Collin were running errands for her. She liked Tom the best, she kept stroking his arm and leg. When the goblins attacked, the men just sat there. Our lady teachers slapped them to wake them up. Tom picked up his axe and stood in front of the pretty lady. She, she was smiling, it wasn't nice. When Collin got, got, got shot, and he fell on us, she came over, but she wasn't pretty. Her skin was gross, green and covered in warts. She towered over Tom who was tall. She said something about missing out on such sweet, um, something, mor... something. The goblin who shot Collin, she pointed at him and he, he exploded. Then we fell asleep."
Ash didn't recognize the language, only that there was ill/evil magic tied into the letters and runes. Loryn walks over to look at them, with Mortimer tagging along. Loryn looks at the writing, "It's giant, but the writing is debased, changed in a dark way."
For Drack, Loryn, and Gnubert Highlight to display spoiler: { The writing, the meanings of what's there, its like an antithesis of fey. As y'all are the ones closest to being related to Fey, you can feel the malevolence behind the writing }
The party keeps the girls entertained while Randolf and the guys help with loading the dead into the wagon and covering them up. Once comepleted Randolf and the girls head back to town.
Torryn considered all that had been said. She tried to recall her father's stories. There had been so many. Was this a hag of some sort? Couldn't they alter their appearance? Alas, she didn't know. What she did know was that she, a Sacred Dancer, was not going to be so easily duped.
Tracking. That really wasn't her forte. She had keen enough senses, but just no experience with such things. The best she could was stay alert and be watchful for danger.
When the girls were on their way she broached the topic of what they were pursuing. "What do you think? It certainly sounds like a lot of bad magic is involved. I'm just not at all sure whether it's a Dark Fey, a Hag or something else entirely. To be honest, I'm mostly guessing here, but I'm ready to move when you are."

Gnubert walks over and looks at teh runes while the dead, and children are being loaded up. "Just looking at those make me feel uneasy. As though something good has been cursed. Just pure evil."
Gnubert walks to the wagon, and prays over the dead. "Randolf be safe. Let the council know we are tracking whatever beast has caused this."
The cleric looks at his friends, No time like the present. Let's get this done."

Manolo faces and mood turns somber as the girls tells what happens. He keeps quiet and looks dead serious. He chases the girls and asks, " Tell me, how did she look ? was her skin pale white like the color of the moonlight? Long and beautiful brown hair? and piercing golden eyes?"
Ash Macfarlane - Shawn R; AC: 11(T 11, FF 10), CMD: 24 HP: 36/36 Monday October 16th, 2023 9:55:11 PM
Ash ponders for a second, tapping his finger on his cheek. Nothing is coming to him, so he just shakes his head and waves to the children leaving.
"Theres no gray area here... this is pure evil. We must extinguish it."

Loryn rubs his ample nose and shakes his head. Before they set off, he tries one more thing with the runes casting Comprehend Languages
To the rest, with Randolph and the girls safely off, "Rings true to our tale of the witches as told. "Many, many years ago, a white witch married a mortal man. This is strange as most witches avoid normal folks, preferring to marry within their own coven. Triplets were the result of their marriage. The girls were identical in looks to their mother, pale white skin - the color of moonlight, long and beautiful brown hair, and piercing golden eyes. They family enjoyed their time together. The father was a hunter of men. When the girls were 10, he accepted a job to hunt down several bandits. while he was gone, dark witches came a calling. They offered the mother and daughters a chance to join their ranks willingly. When all four refused, the dark witches killed the mother, and stole away the girls." She pauses to take a few puffs off her pipe and then another swig of her mead, "That's good stuff. The farmer who makes it has the touch when it comes to such drinks. Now, when the father came home, he found his wife dead, house burned down, and daughters gone. He searched for his girls until the day he died, his heart giving out over the loss of his wife and girls. Sometime later, children began disappearing from villages. No one could figure out what was happening. A group of adventurers, like yourselves, was hired to investigate. They tracked the children down to the woods around us, with hushed talk of the Frozen Chapel, and the swamps. After several months, one adventurer returned. When he had left, he'd been barely twenty winters old. When he stumbled into town, he was an old man, well into his sixties. All that he would say was "The Sisters, they're real...they, they, used magic to drain the life from my friends and from me. I only just escaped a few days ago...I think...I don't remember much." The lad died within a few hours. He was searched but had nothing other than his clothes. Every hundred years or so, children vanish, people show up aged to death, or close to it
Loryn admits to not knowing much about witches and hags or fey really. He had a curiosity for Magical Beasts and Outsiders from beyond the plane of the Wold and the only creature close was a night Hag, but they were dream stalkers. This seemed different from the original story and the childrens' tale just now.

Drack stops Randolph before he heads off and turns to the group and quietly says. "A thought that should be considered. Those runes are evil in nature, and are meant to preserve the bodies. Was it simply a message, or is it something even more evil. Could those runes be something used to turn the dead into the undead? I just wonder if it might be safest to burn those bodies instead of bury them."
