DM RobC - "We should probably head for land and look for signs of Thom" Friday October 6th, 2023 5:37:16 AM
Ruby endures the effects of the elemental explosion, maintaining vigilance over the skies while staying in loose formation with his newfound companions. He stands ready to assist or follow their lead as needed.
Nightingale, having suffered damage in the battle, expresses the need to rest and recover her magical abilities for healing. Berotha agrees, bearing visible signs of the negative energy damage.
Lothlo reflects on the incredible experience of embodying a dragon's strength and breath, emphasizing the importance of heading to land to search for Torm and avoid potential threats.
Zazu offers assistance in treating the party's wounds, once they're on land again.
Drawing nearer to the land, the party is treated to a breathtaking view of a true tropical haven. The coastline is adorned with glistening, golden sands that meet the gentle lapping waves of the crystal-clear sea. Tall palm trees sway gracefully in the warm breeze, their fronds casting welcome patches of shade onto the beach.
Beyond the shoreline, a lush and verdant tropical forest beckons with an air of mystery. The dense foliage seems to cloak the land in a protective embrace. The canopy overhead filters the sunlight, creating a dappled play of light and shadow on the forest floor.
As your flight carries you to a distance of around 300 feet from the island, an unexpected weariness begins to settle upon you. The once exhilarating sensation of flight now feels burdensome, your wings seeming to weigh heavier with each beat. What was once effortless now requires a concerted effort, as if the very air itself has grown thicker and more resistant.

Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 20/15/16, HP: 108/136, CMD: 23 Friday October 6th, 2023 8:04:52 PM
Lohtlo starts to feel the same weariness in his wings. It's crazy that we are all feeling it at the same time. I don't know if it's just that we've never flown before and our muscles are exhausted, or if whatever is turned us into dragons is wearing off, but we should definitely make it to shore before we are too tired to keep flying. Let me know if any of you feel you are getting into trouble and I'll cast featherfall on you.
Lohthlo pays extra attention to his own stamina so he can cast it on himself if he feels he's not going to make it to shore before his wings give out.

Naithi thanks Zazu for his skilled healing, but knows she is going to need more before the group gets into another battle.
In her weariness, Naithi takes a moment to check in on Camalayas, seeing the same struggle that she is feeling. Knowing that her companions are also feeling the fatigue and struggling as well.
LWe all feel it. We need to find somewhere to land and rest. Camalayas especially needs a break, and if she's feeling the same way as I am, I don't think her wings will hold up much longer. This might be an enchantment, but this could also be our dragon forms wearing off. If that is the case, I would like to be close to land and not as high up when it happens. I look at the ground in the distance, hoping to spot something that can serve as a safe landing spot.
Zazu gets ready to land, and fears losing those sweet draconic powers before there's a chance to do any healing.
"Come on, Boyo!"
DM RobC - "I would like to be close to land and not as high up when it happens" Saturday October 7th, 2023 9:45:00 PM
Ruby, though satisfied with his performance in the recent battle, starts to feel an inexplicable weariness creeping in. He pushes himself to reach the safety of land before becoming too heavy to stay aloft.
Nightingale voices her fatigue, prompting others to realize they're experiencing the same exhaustion.
Lohtlo speculates about the cause, suggesting it might be due to inexperience in dragon form or the transformation wearing off. He offers to use Feather Fall if anyone gets too tired to continue flying.
Berotha briefly dozes off in flight and attributes the exhaustion to an enchantment. She tries to make a safe landing on the land below.
Naithi checks on Camalayas, recognizing the shared struggle among the group. She suggests that rest is needed, especially for Camalayas, whose wings appear strained.
Zazu prepares to land, concerned about losing their newfound draconic powers before having a chance to provide healing support.
As the party continue, the tropical island draws ever closer, now only 200 feet away. Just when your fatigue seems nearly overwhelming, a subtle shift in the fabric of magic signals a change. The transformative spell that granted you the majestic forms of dragons begins to unravel.
In a series of fleeting moments, the wings that carried you so gracefully through the sky lose their spectral substance, fading away into the ether. Scales revert to skin, and your dragon forms shift back into those of the adventurers they once were. For most, that means the inability to fly! You all fall into the water, some more gracefully than others. (Lothlo, if he chooses, may have his featherfall spell trigger for a gentle splashdown)
The island is now about 200 feet away from all of you. The water around you is calm and pleasantly warm. (Multiple DC10 Swim checks to reach shore depending on your base speed)

At least we were over water when the spell failed, I hate to think what would have happened if we were flying over sharp rocks when it failed... or for that matter, in the middle of fighting those elementals.
Lothlo gently lands in the water and starts swimming towards shore.
Zazu and Boyo splash down as Zazu's fears come true. "Goodbye, dragon shape!" the restored elf calls out.
Zazu quickly swims to Boyo and saddles up. Since Boyo has a swim speed, the duo swim around and make sure no one is sinking.
"Does anybody need help in the water?"
As a dragon, Zazu cast Mage Armor. Is that spell still going? If not, the wizard will cast the spell (again).

Ruby swims with all his might, the weight of his armored form making the journey to shore a strenuous one.
Lothlo, noticing the fading wings of the dragons ahead, quickly reacts by casting Feather Fall. As his own wings give out, he gently descends to the water below, relieved that they were over water when the spell failed.
Zazu and Boyo splash down into the water, the elf lamenting the loss of the dragon shape. They quickly swim around, checking on everyone to ensure they are safe.
Nightingale tries to maintain her grace as her dragon form fades away, leaving her to enter the water less gracefully, especially with her heavy scale armor causing her to sink beneath the waves.
Berotha, being a strong swimmer, offers her assistance to those who may need it, and that includes Nightingale! The drowing surface drow is quickly hoisted onto Berotha's back and given a ride to shore.
As you arrive on the beach, your clothes are dripping wet and stick to your skin. With each step, you hear a squishing sound as your wet clothes meet the sand. It's quite a contrast to the dry, clean beach you're on.
The beach is a picture of untouched beauty, with its golden sands stretching out as far as the eye can see. Under a flawless, sun-drenched sky, the calm waves gently lap at the sand, creating a soothing symphony that fills the air.
The first thing that catches your attention is a set of footprints which have disrupted the otherwise immaculate beachscape. They come from the water's edge and lead directly into the dense forest that looms ominously at the edge of the sand. These prints are notably large, suggesting the passage of a creature of significant size. They seem to be headed straight into the heart of the tropical forest.
However, what is perhaps more intriguing are the smaller footprints that surround the larger ones. These diminutive tracks originate from the depths of the forest, looping around the larger prints, and then returning to the sanctuary of the woods.

Ruby looks at the prints hard, trying to find the story behind the smallest tell-tale.

The beach is truly beautiful, and it's a welcome sight after the turbulent skies we just flew through. The footprints catch Naithi's attention right away, and she can't help but wonder what could have left these tracks and why they seem to be walking in a loop. It seems like the creature came from the forest and walked along this path before returning to the woods, but the larger footprints are certainly curious. The group arrives safely on the beach, wet from their water landing. Ruby, eager to assist, quickly takes notice of the footprints on the pristine beach and offers his tracking skills to help follow them. He scrutinizes the prints closely, searching for any clues that could reveal their origin.
As the rest of the team takes in the beauty of the surroundings and concerns about their wet condition arise, Nightingale suggests finding a way to dry themselves without alerting any potential inhabitants of the jungle. Lothlo, while considering the tracks, wisely cautions the group to be vigilant for signs of elemental presence or other unusual occurrences along the trail. Berotha also lends her assistance, inspecting the tracks to determine the size and nature of the creature responsible for them. Zazu's magical protection is still in effect.
Naithi points out the curious set of footprints that seem to lead in and out of the forest, raising questions about the creature's behavior. She welcomes Ruby's tracking expertise and acknowledges his leadership in this endeavor, expressing the group's readiness to assist.
Ruby tries to learn what he can from the tracks. The larger footprints are round and could be those of a very large turtle, but it's hard to say. He's never seen one this big before. The smaller ones look like small bootprints but it's impossible to tell precisely what made them other than small humanoid, and quite a few of them too. Highlight to display spoiler: {In case it wasn't clear, the large tracks came from the water and then proceeded into the tropical forest. The smaller tracks lead from the forest, do lots of circles around the large tracks, and then follows them back into the forest}
Following the trail would be a straightforward task for most people. The broken grasses and twigs provide ample markers to follow. For experts like Naithi and Ruby, it will be a trivial exercise.

Lothlo readies his bow and is set to join the search. Zazu, enchanted by the ocean and the beach, is also eager to go, benefiting from his remaining dragon magic. The elf finds some nice polished rocks on the beach, including one really nice one that that looks heart-shaped, but there's a distinct lack of shells.
Together, they all follow Ruby and Naithi, who seem to have the tracking well in hand, while Berotha watches their backs for any potential threats.
The path leads directly into the thick forest, suggesting a clear and deliberate direction. The forest surrounds you with lush greenery. The bushes and small branches on the ground show that something big passed through here, likely the one that made those large tracks.
After a brief but purposeful trek through the foliage, the party arrives at the edge of a small clearing. The transition from the forest to this open area is abrupt, the sudden change in surroundings both surprising and captivating.
The clearing itself is most pleasant. A small pool, perhaps 30 feet across, sits slightly offset from the center. At the eastern edge of the clearing an old tree has fallen, its large branches extending over the southern part of the pond, some even dipping into the water.
Reeds flourish at the western edge, suggesting the pond's shoreline is rather indistinct, likely resulting in marshy ground there. The northern side is easily accessible and boasts an abundance of vibrant water lilies along its border. The area is teeming with small, brilliantly colored birds, quick-winged insects emitting an iridescent glow, and cheerful bird songs.
The large tracks lead directly to the pond, and from Ruby's position at the front of the pack, he can see a network of small humanoid footprints crisscrossing the entire area. These tracks display a mix of ages, with some appearing freshly imprinted while others have weathered with time, but the sheer quantity is remarkable.

And Berotha and Rubalad have things in common, and the human and two elves haven't shown anything other than a good work ethic, too. He smiles as he follows the easy tracks; this team really seems like something special!
When he gets to the clearing, the Twilight Ranger immediately steps to the right and a couple steps in so he is not blocking the rest of the Champions from emerging out of the jungle. Scimitar and buckler in hand, just in case, he points unnecessarily at the pond while looking around for dangers. Ruby is enthusiastic about the diverse group of Champions, each with their unique qualities. He leads the way to the clearing, warily keeping his guard up, where he points out the turtle tracks leading into the pond.
Nightingale suggests sending someone around the other side to investigate, Berotha wisely speaks of their intentions, and Lothlo emphasizes the need to communicate their peaceful nature.
Zazu's doubts about the local wildlife being illusions surface and uses a mage hand to touch the reeds and creatures in the area, and Naithi offers healing and casts Bark Skin. Finally, the mystery of the new and old footprints deepens their curiosity, prompting Nightingale's idea to explore the pond further.
Finding a tree to climb is an easy task, and Boyo and Zazu slowly ascend to get a view of the surrounds.
The reeds bend to Zazu's light touch from the Mage Hand. It doesn't work on the animals, but the elf figures that's because the spell only works on objects. He finds that shaking a reed or two causes the bugs on it to fly away naturally. Zazu's feels pretty sure there is no illusion at play here.
Lothlo recounts a tale about a man they call Jane. Rumor is that he stole from a magistrate and give the money to the poor. He was the hero of Canton.
No-one has entered the clearing yet, though Ruby stands at the edge, with Nightingale beside him. Zazu and Boyo are 20ft up the nearest tree on the right

Naithi has had enough with these elves running around like cats high on cat no nip. She jumps off of Camalayas (fast dismount, free action) and Camalayas to flank with her. The two of them charge whichever enemy is in range they had the most health (sorry, I can't find the squares on my phone to get the distance of the farthest enemy, and I'm assuming all allies will let me pass through their square). Ruby doesn't know what these creatures are, but he knows his current tactics aren't working. Since the fey are so hard to hit, he switches things up and goes for their weapons! He successfully disarms it of one of it's dagger.
Nightingale has a quick think about the blindness and tries to dispel it. The spell works! Nightingale's vision returns and she can now see how the battle is faring. (Highlight to display spoiler: {You didn't say where you wanted your wolves so I put them in what I thought may have been in the best tactical position - helping surround two of the fey - but feel free to move them elsewhere if you prefer})

Naithi has had enough messing about and looks for a nearby elf to attack. She can't get a clear line to charge or a path free of difficult terrain, and can't grapple on a charge, but one foe is close enough for her to simply go attack and have Berotha there to flank. Can anyone remind me what our timeframe to complete this is? Am I correct that with our timeline we do not have time to rest before the ball?

Nightingale channels more health and then shares, "I've got some spells left. I can try to fix Boyo's blindness, and I can try to fix any physical damage you've taken."
Nightingale channels 15 health back
Lothlo (WillD) -- AC: 20/15/16, HP: 63/66, CMD: 23 Wednesday November 1st, 2023 7:33:02 PM Thank you so much Nightingale, I feel much better now! Lothlo looks at Naithi's face and sees her concern. I'm not even sure how time works when you're in a different realm, but I'm sure that getting Thorm back safe is more important than being a little late..

Zazu expresses exasperation in capturing the elusive turtle, while Naithi inspects Camalayas for any severe injuries, pondering how to aid the group. (Highlight to display spoiler: {I like the idea of summoning something different using a hero point! Something friendly will be summoned to help you, but you won't know what it is :) Alternatively using a hero point to get an extra channel would also be fine}
Nightingale continues to channel her healing powers and offers to rectify Boyo's blindness, as Lothlo shares his thoughts on the importance of rescuing Thorm. Better late than never! He's not sure how time works in this realm, but he recalls Maab saying that the ball was tomorrow evening (Wold time). That might allow the party the chance to rest only once.
Ruby surveys the area, checking for potential dangers and inspecting the Turtle Tracks to trace their path out of the water. With gratitude for the healing aid, Berotha assists.
The pair circle the clearing looking for clues. Berotha tracks the large footprints to the edge of the pool, but can't see any footprints emerging from the pool.
Ruby checks the reeds and then has a closer look at the fallen tree. He discovers that the old tree is hollow, and when he looks inside he can see it is filled with small bones, gnawed clean. Ruby is quite an experienced adventurer, and his survival skills are well honed. He can tell straight away that the bones come from some tiny creatures. His best guess would be a number of some sort of small fey creatures that strayed too close to this area.
Mixed in with the bones he finds a small wooden dagger, some shredded yellow rubber, and right down at the bottom of the hollow he can see what looks like a berry about the size of an orange, glowing with a golden hue. Larger people might have trouble reaching it, but Ruby is small enough to manoeuvre deep into the hollow to reach it, if he so chooses.

Ruby calls out when he finds the hollow tree. "Looks like we found their home, and bad cess to the small elves, they were definitely person-eaters. Got some stuff in here though. I'm going in to get it."
The badgerkin will squeeze into the hollow and retrieve the wooden dagger, shredded rubber and orange berry to display for the team.

Berotha eyes the water and nods. "Very well. I will give it a try. Can anyone illuminate a pebble with magic for me?" If the pebble is illuminated, she holds it between her teeth to light the way then jumps in and swims down a ways, searching around in the water.

Naithi decided to wait on summoning a creature to help the group, but tucks away the knowledge that summoning unicorn will allow it to cast several cure spells on the group, which could be useful in the future. That said, she offers to use one to let Nightingale get an extra use of channel energy if needed. She tells Camalayas to wait on shore as she follows the group into the water.

Before the party splits, Nightingale calls out, "Wait one second before getting out of range."
She uses her last Channeling of health - healing 16 damage
Once that's done she'll move to where Boyo is

Ugh, said thanks for the healing, forgot to update header. All set now.

"Sorry, no light spell. But Boyo is a natural swimmer if we can get him fixed up?"
Zazu looks longingly at Nightingale.

Lothlo watches a few of his friends jump into the water. I'll back you up from shore while you do an initial look around, I'm better able to position myself for a shot from here if needed.
DM RobC - "Wait one second before getting out of range." Friday November 3rd, 2023 2:06:47 AM
Berotha eyes the water and decides to that a swim might be necessary.
Naithi refrains from summoning a creature but considers a future use of a unicorn for healing.
Nightingale uses her last channeling of health to heal damage, then moves to Boyo's location.
Zazu suggests Boyo is a skilled swimmer if healed.
Lothlo, staying on shore, offers backup support, positioning himself for a potential shot if needed.
Ruby retrieves and displays a wooden dagger and some shredded rubber. He has to stretch deep into the hollow tree to reach the berry, and as it grazes his fingertips, a palpable shift in the air captures the focus of those not in the hollow of the tree. The tranquil pool at the center of the clearing takes on a mesmerizing quality, shimmering and glowing with a brilliant golden hue, and before their eyes, a portal materializes upon the surface of the water.
For a brief moment, the berry evades Ruby's grasp, and immediately after the pool returns to its non-magical state. However, with an extra stretch, Ruby successfully secures a firm grip on the berry, and as he does, the golden portal re-emerges on the pool.
The rest of the party stand around the glowing pool, none having gone into the waters just yet.

The portal appears just in time to stop Berotha from jumping into the water and she starts. "Oh my... that seems unusual... Should we enter it? Does anyone know where this magical berry comes from? Personally, it would be reassuring to know that an allied party had created it rather than an enemy. It may show signs of where, when, and by whom it was crafted?"

Not good, I'm sure, but it would one can hope. What is that berry you are holding? Do you think that's one of the berries that Torm was looking for?

Boyo leaps up, sight restored, and licks Nightingale in happy delight, tail twitching.
"Thank you!" says Zazu.
"Let's swim over and enter this portal. Maybe that's where the turtle went."
