Satisfied everyone is out of harm's way, Tsak rests. He notes a raven flying overhead and mentions this to his friends. He suggests going to see this healer.
In fact, everyone seems to have seen the raven flying overhead, and all are for visiting this healer.
Kiwina is not sure if anyone here is a town leader, but the barkeep seemed to be in authority within the tavern, and Kiwina might judge him to be the owner. He casts Neutralize Posion on the man. This seems to have no obvious effect, though the man does draw away from the centaur after he touches the man as he casts the spell. The man still will not look at the Petals directly, and he still moves with a dull, plodding gait as he returns to his tavern.
Beech casts a spell to try to cover the Petals' way to this healer with an illusion.
(If I understand correctly, Beech is using Silent Image to create the image of an empty road, but about 10’ above the actual road so that an observer from above would look down and see the empty road and not the PCs beneath it. Unless the observer is very high up, the nature of this “elevated” road would be fairly obvious to anyone moving, as their perspective changes as they move, but the illusion does not. So, while it may hide the PCs from observers within the limits of the illusion, the fact that they are looking at an elevated roadway that is higher than the surrounding ground would be obvious to anyone flying overhead.)
Though the Petals may ask the townsfolk to take them to this healer, none will. In fact, they avoid responding directly to the Petals. Instead they will dully say to another person something like, ”Someone needs to find the healer’s house. They should simply head that way, and look for the yellow house on the low hill on the edge of town.”
Following this direction, you generally proceed southward. After a few hundred feet, you can see a small rise with a yellow house. There are trees here as the forest tends to press in toward the town on all sides. It looks peaceful and quiet.
To answer Tsak’s question, this does generally seem to be the direction the raven went, though it did pass out of Tsak's field of vision so he’s not positive.
You will be coming in from the “top” of this map, so place yourselves accordingly.

The way I pictured the illusion is over basically the most traveled area and is a like a 1/2 tube slightly taller than wide. (10' high by 10' wide) but at the edges near the top, it's prolly only 6' curving up to the center. With it over the most traveled areas, the changed should be harder to spot, but there will be a little bit of shift from perspective, can't be helped, because we don't have anything to anchor it to. Falco does not like that something seems to be affecting the people of Wilsden.
This worried Mak too, and he checks the unconscious woman to make sure she does not bear the scars of having been heartseeded. He is relieved that she does not.
As the Petals head as directed by some of the townsfolk, Beech creates an illusory tunnel to shield their passage for most of the way there. The petals regard the yellow house on the rise before them.
Elyas wonders aloud if the Petals should start with questions or just start lobbing spells and ask later. Ayotnom suggests starting with questions unless this healer resists. Panzer answers that he’s not sure because no one has really told him why you all are here.
Kiwina resists the temptation to just burn this house down. Which is probably good, given that the house is surrounded by a forest. He answers Panzer’s questions about whom they seek and why. The summary below contains Kiwina’s answer, but (if you will forgive the DM for some added exposition) adds a bit more context for Beech and Panzer.
DM Recap to make things easier for Panzer and Beech: The Petals encountered a dragon named Grovas on Liontaur Isle that was preying on the liontaurs there. They tracked the beast to its lair, and there they found documents from someone named Achtoor offering Grovas immortality if he would join Achtoor. These documents said the dragon should seek him out by contacting someone named Nevras Canthil in Dirt City. They journeyed to Dirt City, a city of thieves. There they found and defeated an awful necromancer named Nevras Canthil. In his papers they found documents from Achtoor suggesting that Nevras’ work with flesh golems might be helpful to Achtoor, so Nevras was also being asked to join Achtoor, and that he was doing some interesting work in Willsden. The Petals have journeyed to Willsden to find this Achtoor.
The Petals look at the house, unsure how to approach. It seems peaceful here, but they are wary. The house is quaint, and the woods around it are quiet.

DM Mark - "Hello? Anyone home?" d20=16 ; Friday November 10th, 2023 1:45:03 AM
Panzer gets an answer to his questions of why the Petals are here. He’s alarmed at the prospect of flesh golems. He thinks about such creatures from an engineering point of view. He’s been around constructed and mechanical things - he knows they are usually operated by someone, that they usually have limitations based on their function, that they can be destroyed with the right weapons or use of force. But his engineering brain tells him little about flesh golems. He asks about the vulnerabilities of golems.
Kiwina replies to Panzer that Mak carries an adamantine weapon that seems to be effective against golems.
Ayotnom wonders what a rainbow dragon, a necromance and a healer/enchanter have in common? This seems like the start of a good joke, but the punch line remains a mystery so far.
Falco urges a friendly approach. He also recommends being prepared, casting Shield on himself.
Beech warns that his spells are not subtle. If he casts one, you’ll all know. He looks around. He sees a house before him. He scans the surrounding forest and sees nothing out of the ordinary. He’s a bit too far to see much in the windows of the house up ahead. He sees what appears to be a nicely maintained house, chimney, and a well nearby. No smoke comes from the chimney.
Birds chirp in the woods around. A squirrel scampers up a tree.
Elyas tells his friends not to drink anything as he approaches the door to the cottage. With Tsak at his back he knocks, asking aloud if anyone is home. He can see that the exterior is well-maintained, with neatly painted walls and a charming front porch adorned with potted plants. It gives off an unassuming atmosphere.
No one comes to the door. A few minutes go by, so it seems unlikely anyone is going to answer his knock.
As Tsak waits he glances to the side where he can see a bit in the nearby window. It looks like a nice home from what little he can see. From where he stands, the place seems to have some furnishings and he can see a tapestry on the wall. He can also see a flickering light from inside.
Assuming the Petals move up and look into the windows, they see a couch and a few armchairs surround a small wooden coffee table. Bookshelves line one wall. Simple tapestries hang on other walls. A fire seems to dance in a fireplace, and beyond that is what appears to be a dining and kitchen area. You also see a door leading to an internal room.
But there is no one in there - at least, not that you can see.

Given that perception and the fact that NOTHING has changed at the house in the last few hours (including a fire that should have died down when left unattended) has him preparing for the worst.

The Petals have rested a bit waiting for the door to open. It’s been a long day, and you’re pretty hungry by now!
Mak is done waiting. He walks over to the door and tries the latch. He finds that it is unlocked and he steps just inside the door and looks around. He notices the house smells like an old house that’s been closed up - it could use some fresh air in here.
Elyas notices it’s getting late in the day, and in addition to being hungry he realizes the need for rest.
Falco draws his bow as he keeps an eye on the surroundings. Beech does likewise.
Panzer thinks about Achtoor’s attempt to lure Nevras Canthil here, especially in light of Nevras’ seeming skill at crafting flesh golems. The little badger-man worries that perhaps Achtoor may be using the towns folks to craft flesh golems. Or worse yet, perhaps he already has and those folk they met in Willsden are all flesh golems.
Ayotnom asks his friends if the Petals should look for food here in this house or seek it out at the tavern.
Tsak is unnerved by Panzer’s thoughts and the fact that the fire burns here, but seems to consume no wood.
As Mak enters the house he notices that this fire provides light but no heat. In fact, he thinks it may be a bit colder in the house than outside. Not unnaturally so, just that this house seems to have no source of heat to warm it, and it is largely shaded from the sun. It also lacks the smell of a burning fireplace.
Knowledge Arcana DC 23: Highlight to display spoiler: {You would guess that the fire is a Continual Flame spell.}
As Mak looks around, he can see that the fire casts a cheery, flickering glow in the house and seems to be the only source of light. With the dwindling light outside, more light would be needed to see much detail in here now, though this appears to be a comfortably appointed house.

The PCs seem to find the house in the woods comfy and homey and quiet, in a something’s-going-to-kill-us kind of way.
Kiwina is reluctant to enter, recalling that the last time he entered a house his large size proved to be a problem. Elyas likewise will not enter, but cheers Mak on. Beech keeps a sharp eye out.
Falco nervously looks to his fellow beastfolk Panzer for answers, and half expects the squirrels to mount an attack.
Panzer us undeterred. His small size makes it easier to push past the others and he goes in, expecting a trap. From where he stands, Panzer gets a better view of the layout than he had from the outside.
Ayotnom also goes in. He tells his friends that the fire is not real and merely Continual Flame cast on the logs in the fireplace. (I moved your PC.)
As noted before, it’s slightly cooler in this house, though with the fading light it’s likely that the woods will be the colder place soon.
Tsak tries to fade into the growing shadows.
Ayotnom, Panzer and Mak have a pretty good view of things, though the fading light make it difficult.
Living room - The walls are adorned with simple tapestries, and a fireplace crackles, casting a comforting glow. Wood and fireplace tools sit on the hearth. A worn but comfortable couch and a few armchairs surround a small wooden coffee table. Bookshelves line one wall and are filled with a variety of tomes. It’s hard to read the titles in this light.
Study nook - Between the bookshelves and what serves as a bedroom, you see a small alcove in the living room serves as a study nook. A modest wooden desk sits against the wall. There is a box of candles and some inkpots here.
Kitchen/dining room - There are wooden cabinets here that show signs of use, and the countertops bear the marks of countless meals prepared. A round dining table with mismatched chairs sits next to the kitchen. Knives sit in a wooden stand, and you notice some well used dishes here. You think you see the outline of something on the floor of the kitchen, but it’s hard to tell from the flickering light from the fireplace, which is the only light in the house.
There is a closed door here which leads to a bedroom that Panzer and Kiwina saw looking in a window from the outside.

Falco remains convinced that things are about to go terribly wrong in that house. He sees a few bats flit about here and there outside. The little owl-man suppresses a primal urge to catch a bat.
Beech calls from the outside, asking if anyone can tell how long ago the house was occupied. He cannot see his friends in the house from where he is.
Kiwina move around the outside of the house. He looks into the window of what appears to be a bedroom. Since the door is closed to the rest of the house, the Centaur creates a light to better see in. He sees a double bed with a quilted cover, flanked by nightstands with oil lamps. A small dresser stands against one wall, displaying a few things. The room looks peaceful and comfortable from where he stands.
Tsak stays near Mak, hiding in the shadows by the fireplace. Even though he knows the fire is not a real fire, as he nears the fireplace it still seems odd to see the flickering flames but feel no heat. Even without this source of heat, the tapestries on the walls convey a sense of warmth and comfort, as do the furnishings. He notices a few oil lamps. Beside him are some fireplace tools.
Mak moves through the house. He believes the inhabitant of this house has become a victim. He takes a look at the outline in the kitchen floor, and can see it is a trap door. Panzer checks on this as well, asking Beech to create Dancing Lights in the house. Then Ayotnom comes up and casts a Light spell on himself. As Panzer looks down, he sees a recessed iron handle in the trap door. He reaches down and opens the door.
As Panzer opens the door, an earthy smell wafts up. To the little badger, this is a comforting smell. To Ayotnom and Mak it smells like a musty basement. A stone stairway descends from the kitchen to a stone cellar floor. He can see stone walls lined with wooden shelves holding various things. He suspects it may be food, but it’s tough to tell from up here. The cellar is dark.

Mak calls for Tsak to go down into the cellar, saying he will follow. Panzer then squeezes in, followed by a stealthy Tsak and then Mak. Their way is lit by Panzer using an oil lamp from the house. Elyas moves out of the swarm of books and positions himself to cast a Cone of Cold. Sparkling motes form in the air as available water vapor freezes. Frost forms on the books as they drop to the ground. Similarly, the tapestry and the small table fall motionless.
Falco steps to the doorway and he calls down a column of flame and divine energy. The books that once swarmed Elyas are burned to a crisp. The floor has a nice, circular burn mark as whisps of smoke curl up from where it hit.
Not to be out done, Beech conjures up a Cone of Cold. He watches as a rime of frost covers the couch, pillows, tapestry, knives, dishes, and chairs. The dishes and knives fall with a clatter. The pillows and the tapestry fall as well. The chairs stop moving.
The couch slams into Beech, hitting him for 10 damage.
Kiwina tries to close the door that opened into the bedroom, but the bed is much stronger and he is not able to close the door. He draws his dagger as he transforms his weapon into a battle axe, ready to strike at his furniture foes.
The dining table and the bed both strike at Kiwina. The bed misses, but the table hits him for 11 damage.
—--------------------------------------- Down in the cellar, Panzer’s kukri knife flashes out at the jars swarming around him and Ayotnom. His strikes hit even as lightning flashes from the blade. The jars shatter. Shards of pottery fall to the floor and a spray of pickle juice erupts from each shattered jar. Panzer and Ayotnom make a DC 15 Fort save to avoid being blinded for one round.
Mak hears the commotion upstairs and worries the Petals are going to need to fix some things once this is over.
Ayotnom casts Mage Armor on himself.
Tsak strikes at the tapestry with his falchon, slicing it nearly in half. The tapestry strikes back weakly but fails to hit.

Falco steps into the room and shoots at the couch. His arrow hits, but sinks into a cushion (hardness 5, no damage.)
Beech fires three arrows into the couch as well, but he’s not sure if they did much. (hardness 5) The couch attacks as he fires the arrow, inflicting 12 points of damage (AOO, hits AC 21.) Then it attacks again, missing him.
Kiwina steps away from where the bed can attack him, and focuses his efforts on the table. As he hits the thing, he finds that his adamantine dagger is more effective than his axe. (hardness 5, but his adamantine dagger does full damage.) The table attacks Kiwina for 15 damage as a solid wooden leg connects with the centaur. Then two pillows fly out of the bedroom and begin to pummel Kiwina. The soft pillows don’t do any damage, but they’re really annoying.
The bed seems to go a little crazy as it bashes against the doorway, trying to get out of the bedroom.
Panzer whacks the sack, ending the sack attack. The sack by Tsak goes slack. Tsak gives him some flack about the sack. Panzer looks up the stairs and thinks he should go back and attack. Ayotnom was going to hack the sack, but seeing it go slack he stands back. Mak sees the attack and is taken aback.
Tsak feigns lament, saying he had hoped the sack could be trained before it got shredded. He turns his attention to the secret door in the cellar. He searches around for a bit and finds a stone in the wall that moves when pressed, causing a click as the secret door opens. Though the door is 5’ wide, it opens onto a 10’ wide passageway that curves a bit here and there, so that even with his darkvision Tsak can only see about 30’.

Though most of the animated objects in the house have ceased to move, some of the larger pieces are still attacking.
Elyas sends a few Magic Missiles into the couch. He can see that the dining table is attacking Kiwina and something is trying to get out of the bedroom.
Falco crosses the room, avoiding the killer couch and heals Beech for 22 points.
Beech thanks Falco. Then he casts a fireball. Inside a house. In a forest.
The fireball does affect the couch, which is no longer moving and is burning cheerily in the middle of the room. He also catches the dining table, which also ceases moving and begins to burn. In fact several things - pillows, blankets, and small books, a chair - in the area of the fireball seem to catch fire. Smoke begins to fill the air. The fire’s just beginning to catch, but this looks bad.
On the plus side, it’s now much warmer in the house.
Kwina strikes at the table, but it is no longer moving. The bed however is moving. It seems to have finally figured out how to squeeze out of that bedroom door, and it moves out to attack Kiwina. The centaur gets an AOO against the bed.
The bed hits Kiwina (confirmed crit) for 25 damage. Ouch! With the bed there, two pillows move as well.
Panzer gets himself ready to venture into the passageway leading from the cellar.
Tsak sees his friends adjust their sunglasses in a dark cellar. Then he sees and hears the familiar flash and woosh of a fireball inside the house. The flickering light and crackle of fire from upstairs makes him hope for a pool of sharks or a volcano to really round things out.

Kiwina stabs the bed with his adamantine dagger as it moves past him. He stowed one weapon and drops the other (which one is dropped? Grappling with only one free hand would be done at -4.) Then he attempts to grapple a bed! This provokes an attack from the bed, but the bed misses. Kiwina’s grapple is successful, so both Kiwina and the bed now have the grappled condition. The now grappled bed struggles to attacks Kiwina and misses again.
(The grappled bed now has an AC of 12.)
The presents a rather odd wrestling match, as a centaur is trying to keep hold of an ambulatory bed that is flailing about!
Falco moves up to head Kiwina for 27 points.
Beech gestures and conjures a Cone of Cold. This effectively puts out the fires started by his fireball, with the exception of one part of that couch (I assume he avoided including Kiwina in this spell.) This spell also causes the two flying pillows to suddenly be covered in frost before they drop to the ground motionless. He says that in the future he could really use some help putting out the fires he starts.
Ayotnom squeezes back up through the cellar door, just in time to see Beech create frost over the area that is on fire, putting out almost all it. Unfortunately, he is not quite able to get within 30’ to also strike this round, so he moves to be ready to strike next round.
Panzer looks at the sack to make sure it no longer moves - it does not. He peers ahead into the dark passage from the cellar, at least as far as he can see before the passage turns slightly. With the sound of spells up above, he’s content to be in the cellar for now.
Tsak is really not sure what to do. The burning house seems like a bad place to go, as does the dark unknown passage way ahead. He waits for his friends.
The house definitely looks a bit different than it did when you first arrived. Large areas are scorched and fire damaged. The bookshelf and the desk are largely intact. There’s a half burnt couch with one corner still alight. Smoke hangs in the air, but not so badly as to obscure vision yet. The items that previously flew and ran about the place are still. Except for that annoying bed that’s currently wrestling with a centaur.

Elyas fires a devastating Acid Dart at the bedeviled bed, and the acid sizzles as it burns a large part of the headboard. He laments the Petals ruining yet another house.
Falco is sure the Petals will not get invited anywhere after they’re done with this house. He looks around for someone to heal, and he can see that Kiwina is still damaged (though perhaps Kiwina’s header needs some updating on this.)
Beech hits the bed with an Acidic Ray as he says, "Someone please get that last bit of Fire, before it spreads."
Kiwina continues to wrestle the bed and is quite successful at it, pinning the bed and preventing it from moving or taking any effective action. The bed tries to break the grapple but fails. Though it thrashes about, it remains pinned where it is.
(The grappled bed now has an AC of 8.)
Ayotonom is able to hurl his rapier at the bed from where he is. It strikes and returns to his hand, though it only inflicted 1 point of damage due to the bed’s hardness.
Tsak is sure his friends have whatever is going on upstairs well in hand. He carefully listens as he looks into the passageway before him. As far as he can tell, it seems silent.
Here is your map. Please move yourselves on the map, or let me know where you move to. I cleaned up the map a bit, removing small things that are no longer moving. However, this remains a house full of all the usual things you might expect to find in a house.

Elyas fires off another blob of acid at the bed, and makes a large burn spot in the bedspread. Beech also hits the bed with acid. He asks the others what was in the cellar.
Mak thinks about the door in the cellar as he waits for his friends to finish off the belligerent bed.
Falco heals Kiwina again, this time for 31 points. He thinks it’s a bit silly that the Petals are fighting a bed.
Ayotnom throws his rapier. The slender sword flashes through the air and though it hits, it fails to overcome the 5 hardness of the bed.
Panzer’s adamantine kukris are a whir of damage. He hits and hits and hits, and charges of electricity dance where the blades bite deeply into the wood. When the little badger is done, the pieces of the bed slump to the floor.
Kiwina lets the broken bed go as it goes still. It might have been a comfortable bed once, but certainly not now.
Tsak stand guard at the opened door in the cellar. He laments the loss of the sack that tried to choke him.
As the Petals look around, the cottage is once again still. Fighting these pieces of furniture and household goods was quite different from the creatures the Petals are used to. These things showed no emotion or malevolence. They just silently moved and attacked, mindless automatons set here for some purpose.
An acrid smell from the acid mingles with the smoke from the burning couch. But at least it’s pretty well lit by both the fireplace and the couch. While the fire from that couch has not yet spread, you’d guess that’s just a matter of time. The once moving things here lie still, and the once tidy cottage is a mess. There are a number of items scattered here, as well as many more that never moved.

Ayotnom suggests putting the fire in the portable hole reasoning that that might act as a smother for the flames.
DM Mark - A bit of a mess Thursday November 30th, 2023 12:32:09 AM
Elyas asks if anyone can put out the burning couch before it spreads to the rest of the house. Then he walks over to the cellar and calls down to Tsak, asking what’s down there.
Falco also asks if anyone can deal with the fire. Then he casts Detect Magic and sweeps the house.
Ayotnom suggests that perhaps the burning cough could be put in the portable hole to suffocate the fire.
Beech clarifies it’s it’s not really his job to put out the fires he starts, but he looks for something to smother it with. He considers the bedspread, but there’s not really much left of that. Perhaps those tapestries on the walls?
Kiwina, however, has a solution. He casts Create Water and is able to get the fire out, as steam billows out with the smoke. Fortunately, the front door is still open.
Mak calls down to Tsak, asking him how far the passageway out the the cellar goes.
Panzer suspects there was a trap set on the door down in the cellar that may have set off a trap that animated the furniture. Then he goes back down into the cellar.
Tsak moves down the dark cellar about 40’ to see more. It’s not so much a corner that limits his sight as the fact that the tunnel tends to curve and turn here and there, though it generally seems to run south from the house above. Beyond it just looks like more earthen tunnel, still and quiet as far as he can tell. He thinks it slopes slightly downward, though it’s hard to say really.
Between the smoke and the steam, Falco finds the air is pretty hazy, but his divination tells him that there are a few sources of magic in the house. There is a knife that was flying around for a bit (transmutation). There is a magic poker near the fireplace (transmutation). On the writing desk in the nook, he notes that a box of candles emanates magic (enchantment), as does what appears to be some jars of ink (conjuration).

Elyas prepares to go down into the cellar. He offers to teleport any of the larger creatures down to save them from squeezing down the staircase, but he gets no takers.
Falco gathers up the things that emanate magical auras - a knife, the fire poker, a box of candles and some pots of ink. He notices that the fire poker looks a little odd - it seems a bit thicker and heavier than seems practical for a fire poker. He stows the items for later examinations and heads down.
Ayotnom notes that the knife Falco gathers up is the one he noticed earlier.
Beech squeezes down the narrow stairway into the cellar.
Mak tells Tsak to wait for him. In the cellar, he asks if Panzer might be Tsak’s new animal companion. Then he laughs at his joke, telling Panzer he meant no harm and offering for the little badger-man to take the lead.
Tsak is already in the tunnel as Panzer and the others catch up to him. Tsak sniffs the air. It smells musty and a bit damp, but both Tsak and Panzer seem at home in the damp earthen tunnel.
Fortunately, while the secret door in the cellar was only 5 feet wide, the tunnel soon widens out to 10’, so the larger folk don’t need to squeeze while in the tunnel. The tunnel seems to go generally south initially. But as the Petals go, it turns a bit here and there so that it’s not entirely clear if it does go south the whole while. But they definitely can tell it does have a slightly downward slope.
This tunnel goes on for several hundred feet before it stops at what appears to be an underground lake. A few stalagmites poke up out of the water near the edge. (I have revealed what is about the 60’ range of Tsak’s darkvision.) It seems to extend beyond what Tsak can see to the sides and to the south. You do not see a way to walk around the lake. At the edge of the lake is a boat that would carry six medium sized creatures (large creatures count as two if they are squeezing in the boat). You can see a bit of water has seeped into the boat, but not much. There are two oars in the boat.
The ceiling climbs above reaching a height of maybe 40’ above the water’s surface, and a few stalactites hang down from the ceiling. The lake water is gray and murky. The air here is damp.

Mak sees a small ripple that suggests the movement of something below the surface of the murky lake. He suggests throwing something in to see what happens, and he looks down at Panzer.
Panzer looks up at the noble Asildur warrior and he tells Mak he’s up for that, but it would be a lot better if he could breathe water first.
Elyas sees it too, noting it’s probably some aquatic guardian here. The mage casts a spell. He rises up into the air and flies around the lake cavers - at least as far as is needed to survey the area.
As Elyas flies out over the water, Tsak warns him to stay high enough that something jumping out of the water could not nab him. Tsak looks at the boat. It looks sturdy, though there is a bit of water in the bottom of it. Still, if it actually had a hole in it, it would be swamped by now. He can see it has two oars and two oarlocks.
Beech uses this time to check the dagger that was found. It’s actually a large kitchen knife that could be used as a dagger. It’s well made and pretty sharp too (he finds it is a +2 dagger.) How are you storing this knife, as it has no sheath?
Falco moves along with the others as he tries to see what’s going on. Kiwina stays back by the little cleric.
Ayotnom worries that it’s some sort of monster under the water, and he readies a Fly spell in case there’s trouble.
The water here is still, save for the slight ripple in the water that some saw. The murky water has a greenish-gray cast to it, and the air here is moist. Any light source makes the moisture on the nearby walls and ceiling glisten. The stone ceiling is out of sight for most. As the Petals talk amongst themselves, it echoes a bit in this large chamber. The only other noise is an occasional drip from the ceiling into the water below.

Mainly he is counting on whatever baddie lives in the water to snatch him and the others to pull it back to land. All my minuses are added to the swim check, I just need a DC from the DM. Thankfully the water seems calm. I'll paste the rules I'm looking at in a separate post that way if they aren't needed they can be deleted easily.
Panzer Braun (David F) AC 29 (T17, FF25) CMD 33 HP 145/158 ) Character Sheet Monday December 4th, 2023 12:57:59 PM
Underwater Combat Source PRPG Core Rulebook pg. 432 Land-based creatures can have considerable difficulty when fighting in water. Water affects a creature’s attack rolls, damage, and movement. In some cases a creature’s opponents might get a bonus on attacks. The effects are summarized on Table 13–7. They apply whenever a character is swimming, walking in chest-deep water, or walking along the bottom of a body of water.
Ranged Attacks Underwater: Thrown weapons are ineffective underwater, even when launched from land. Attacks with other ranged weapons take a –2 penalty on attack rolls for every 5 feet of water they pass through, in addition to the normal penalties for range.
Attacks from Land: Characters swimming, floating, or treading water on the surface, or wading in water at least chest deep, have improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves) from opponents on land. Land-bound opponents who have freedom of movement effects ignore this cover when making melee attacks against targets in the water. A completely submerged creature has total cover against opponents on land unless those opponents have freedom of movement effects. Magical effects are unaffected except for those that require attack rolls (which are treated like any other effects) and fire effects.
Fire: Nonmagical fire (including alchemist’s fire) does not burn underwater. Spells or spell-like effects with the fire descriptor are ineffective underwater unless the caster makes a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level). If the check succeeds, the spell creates a bubble of steam instead of its usual fiery effect, but otherwise the spell works as described. A supernatural fire effect is ineffective underwater unless its description states otherwise. The surface of a body of water blocks line of effect for any fire spell. If the caster has made the caster level check to make the fire spell usable underwater, the surface still blocks the spell’s line of effect.
Spellcasting Underwater: Casting spells while submerged can be difficult for those who cannot breathe underwater. A creature that cannot breathe water must make a concentration check (DC 15 + spell level) to cast a spell underwater (this is in addition to the caster level check to successfully cast a fire spell underwater). Creatures that can breathe water are unaffected and can cast spells normally. Some spells might function differently underwater, subject to GM discretion. Table 13-7: Combat Adjustments Underwater Attack/Damage Slashing or Bludgeoning Piercing Movement Off Balance?1 Freedom of movement normal/normal normal/normal normal No Has a swim speed -2/half normal normal No Successful Swim check -2/half2 normal quarter or half3 No Firm footing4 -2/half2 normal half No None of the above -2/half2 -2/half normal Yes 1 Creatures flailing about in the water (usually because they failed their Swim checks) have a hard time fighting effectively. An off-balance creature loses its Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and opponents gain a +2 bonus on attacks against it. 2 A creature without freedom of movement effects or a swim speed makes grapple checks underwater at a –2 penalty, but deals damage normally when grappling. 3 A successful Swim check lets a creature move one-quarter its speed as a move action or one-half its speed as a full-round action. 4 Creatures have firm footing when walking along the bottom, braced against a ship’s hull, or the like. A creature can only walk along the bottom if it wears or carries enough gear to weigh itself down: at least 16 pounds for Medium creatures, twice that for each size category larger than Medium, and half that for each size category smaller than Medium.

Tsak looks at the boat, but working out the math for how many trips it will take to ferry everyone across makes his head hurt. He waits for Elyas to report on where such a boat trip might land.
Beech hands Panzer the +2 blade, dismissing it as barely better than a nice kitchen knife (treat as a +2 dagger). Then he casts Dancing Lights and sends it around the cavern. The torch-like globes of fire are reflected off the still water and glisten in the moisture on the ceiling and walls. He can see there are stalagmites protruding from the water near the edges, and there seems to be another landing on the other side of the cavern (see map). There are also stalactites hanging from the ceiling.
Falco goes through his resources to deal with this water, hoping others have prepared as well.
Elyas flies around the cavern, noting what he sees including the far landing.
Kiwina says that his ability to move in the water is limited to saltwater. He wonders how deep the water may be.
Ayotnom takes out a fish hook. He had hoped to separate a few silken strands from his silk rope, but soon realized the woven nature of the rope means he would have to unravel as much as he needs before separating out a few strands, and that would take several minutes.
Panzer also takes out a silk rope, and ties it around himself before handing the end to Beech. He tells his friends that if he starts tugging on the line that they should haul him back in. Then he wades out into the water as bait. The little badger-man doesn’t have to go far before the water is over his head, and his armor does indeed hold him down.
He is about 30’ out. The surface is no longer still, as his entry into the water and the rope behind him send ripples across the surface, though once he is submerged, only the direction and length of the rope suggest where he might be.
For Panzer: Highlight to display spoiler: {Brrr - this water is pretty cold, but not debilitating yet. And murky too. He can sort of see about 5’ ahead as he goes. Things within 5’ have concealment (20% miss chance) and things beyond that have total concealment. It’s a good thing he’s wearing his Goggle of Night because the light from above does not penetrate this water very well.
He is attacked by - something. It’s hard to tell what, but there seem to be two of them. They look grey , but everything looks grey down here. They look to be medium-sized, sinewy and strong as they claw at him, but their attacks seem ineffective against his armor.}

Falco moves over by the boat. He’s worried about his fellow beastfolk and gets out his bow.
Elyas moves back above the water to help Panzer if he can. He cannot see into the water, and he’s not entirely sure where the little budget-man is. (Remember if he intends to hover in one spot it will require a fly check.)
Mak tells Elyas to take Kiwina over to the far shore, and he prepares to cover everyone with his bow.
Tsak replies, ”Sure let's split the party, that always works well.” He lends Beech a hand with the rope as he imagines Panzer strolling through an undersea paradise.
With Tsak helping hold the rope, Beech lets go (?) so he has his bow at the ready. (I guess I’m a little confused how he is both ready with a two handed weapon and also ready to pull Panzer out of the water with a rope.)
Kiwina is a bit worried about Panzer being under the murky lake, but trusts that Panzer will let them know if he is in trouble.
Ayotnom asks, "Would it have killed anyone to wait to try conventional fishing methods before using one of us as live bait?" Then he makes his way out onto the row boat. As the minotaur steps in, the boat sways dangerously under his weight and Ayotnom realizes he should probably sit down in this boat to lower his center of gravity before the thing tips over.

Add to that the fact he has lost count of how many there are and this could get dangerous. Plus fighting is harder on him holding his breath than he anticipated. The tactical part of his brain is starting to yell that this is indeed a bad idea. The primal part of his brain, the part that relishes battle and excitement confidently counters that the Badrgerkin has this in hand. Panzer's tactical brain wins. Steeling himself for the onslaught of attacks sure to come from his retreat, Panzer backs out of the pool. He knows that it will draw the ire of the critters, and he has a fair idea what they are now too, but he can't afford to be paralyzed and drown down here. Strangely enough, not only do two of them manage to hit him (they only hit on a 20), but one of the blows is a confirmed crit. The little tank takes 8 and 11 damage from these two hits, and he must make two DC 14 Fort Saves or be paralyzed back where he was!}
So, now one of two things happen based on Panzer’s save.
Either (1) Panzer makes his saves and emerges from the water soaking and a bit shaken from what he saw. He gasps for air as he says, "Ghooools.....lots of them." The badger readies himself for the onslaught he’s sure will come after him.
Or (2) Panzer simply does not appear. All is quiet. The Petals pull up an empty rope and worry that something awful has happened to their friend.
Mak sees Panzer emerge from the water. The cavern is large but quiet, so he can hear Panzer’s warning about ghouls. He switches to his bow, ready to shoot something should it appear. Tsak says he’s ready to be transported across now.
Falco prepares to channel energy if he sees ghouls.
Elyas decides the boat is a bad idea, and begins talking about how to get people across another way. Beech chimes in on this plan.

Mak pulled an arrow from his quiver and leaned back against the wall to steady himself as he readied an arrow in his bow. He carefully took aim at the waterline on the opposite bank and waited for the ghouls to emerge.

(1) If Panzer appears, Kiwina acts as previously stated.
(2) If Panzer stays under, Kiwina casts control water to possibly reach him. This lowers the water by 14 feet in an area 35 feet wide and 140 feet long between the shore Kiwina is on (near edge centered where Tsak is) and the one Mak is on.

" Depth? it was hard to tell, I took maybe 1 step down for every 2 steps forward, I think. It was very murky and super cold. Not cold enough to hurt me but bone chilling nonetheless." Panzer wastes no time drawing the shock kukri in his main hand and swapping the dagger to his off hand. Because the water was so cold he isn't sure if his frost kukri would hurt them. He waits for them to surface as the others talk about crossing.

DM Mark - Clarifications Friday December 8th, 2023 1:49:39 PM
Water Depth - Knowledge Dungeoneering or Engineering DC 15:Highlight to display spoiler: {The best estimate based on Panzer's thought's and the angle and length of the rope before it was cut, is that he was in about 15' of water.}
None of these creatures that were attacking Panzer in the water emerge. Which seems odd if they are what Panzer thinks they are.
DM FYI - the rope would only be damaged by a slashing attack that hit his touch AC, and then I only gave it a 5% chance it would actually hit the rope. Silk rope has a hardness of 0 and 4 HP. That rope is about 3' shorter now.

We don't need to worry about whatever isin there if we just go over them! let's keep moving

DM Mark - "Seems like they want to stay hidden under the water." Monday December 11th, 2023 1:36:26 AM
Panzer, dripping wet and shivering a bit, draws weapons and is ready to attack the ghouls he assumes will follow. He informs his friends that the water was cold and murky, and he figures it was about 15’ deep where he was.
Mak readies an arrow to shoot anything else that emerges from the water.
Kwina prepares to cast Flare on anything that shows up. Likewise, Falco is ready to channel energy against the ghouls.
No creatures emerge from the lake, and the Petals resolve to avoid the lake altogether and discuss other ways to cross.
Elyas takes Kiwina across the lake to where Mak is using Dimensional Steps. Beech uses Dimension Door to take Falco, Panzer, and Tsak across. Ayotnom covers them, flying once the others are over.
With everyone across this lake, the chamber behind you remains quiet, as does the tunnel ahead. All you hear is the occasional drip of water, though the quiet does nothing to quell the dread of knowing there is a lake with ghouls in it right next to you. But after a minute or two, you conclude that these ghouls - or whatever they are - do not seem to be coming out after you.
In the stillness, your lights are reflected by the water’s surface and the glistening, damp walls and ceiling. This place has the earthy, metallic smell of damp stone and water.
(Congratulations! This was more a puzzle to figure out than a typical combat, and you figured out a way to solve it. Everyone gets a Hero Point!)
