The Ritual - DM Steve K - "Who is the Lead?"

Beige Parlor
Gaffer asks the ghostly figures their cooking techniques. ”No sir, we don’t do the cooking, the plates and urns provide what refreshing drink or edible dainty is requested, and we do the presentation and serving. When visitors want to cook themselves they usually used the big cauldron in the center of the Red Room.”

Blue Bedroom
Desdichado, Danko, and Yrûl consider the puzzle of a chest that is not seen except from the mirror. The drow-girl notes that she can’t turn the mirror so she herself can go to the chest and see herself: when she goes to that particular spot, the mirror’s angle only allows her to see Desdichado. She also can’t feel the chest, nor step through the mirror.

However! With Desdichado watching Yrûl and giving directions while Yrûl goes through a pantomime, the paladin can see the shadowdancer in the mirror open the chest and retrieving a Key! It is a red-tinged metal.

The Tide has the Key!

Red Room O Stuff
Ramirez ticks off what the heroes have found and considers their next move.

Nira goes through the ritual, noting the 10 ingredients and 10 phrases that must be concentrated on by a single person. She also finds it must be done in the Red Room using The Cauldron located in the center of the room.

With the Key and the location of the Cauldron spot confirmed by both the recipe and the ingredients, it is quite easy for the Tide to search the Red Room: not the bric-a-brac along the walls, but the rug at the center of the room! There Danko finds a keyhole, which fits the Key perfectly. Once turned and taking a step back, the Key itself expands to look like a Large Cauldron complete with a fire underneath and ¾ full of an unknown bubbling liquid.

and only make Swift or Free Actions. The Ritual takes 1 minute: 10 rounds.

All other Heroes can select where they are standing at the start of the Ritual.

Yrûl felt very pleased that she'd actually contributed usefully to the group, albeit it had mostly been Desdichado's doing. The cauldron was another matter entirely. She really wasn't at all conversant with magical devices or identifying spells. She could weave the odd bit of shadow and that was it. So she stood by trying to be ready for anything tat might happen.

"I'll bring in some reinforcements just to be careful."

Gaffer asks the others to wait a beat so that he can perform a summoning before proceeding.

"I can do the ritual, but if I do there's a few things to keep in mind. First, I'll be unable to heal you while I'm performing it as it will require concentration. Second, I won't be able to cast any powerful spells, meaning there's a chance I won't be able to help much at all"

It's true. While performing the ritual Nira will be mostly confined to casting 1st level spells, and a couple of 2nd level ones.

As to Gaffer's concern "I'd bet gold there will be something that tries to stop us taking control"

"Ok. Ready everyone?"

If Nira is to be the one to perform the ritual, she takes a few precautions first and spends the next 36seconds frantically casting spells and summoning aid.

Nira will cast Lesser and Greater Immortal Summons, Spectral Hand, See Invisibility, Summon Monster VI and Mislead. The summons rush about casting Blur and Invisibility spells on everyone else (if they allow it). Everyone will benefit from Blur (6mins) + Invisibility (9mins)

"You better hold on to this for me, Gaffer" Nira hands the healing staff over (5 charges remaining).

She'll wait for final approval and then start the ritual.

Nira volunteers, and explains what she will and will not be able to do.

Hmerrin sets himself up ‘just in case’. Yrûl, Desdichado, Danko, and Ramirez stand by…

Gaffer and Nira are both convinced that there will be something that tries to stop them from taking control of the Hut. The druid summons help, and the Red Room O Stuff is big enough to accommodate the storm giant without effort.

Nira takes 42 seconds (7 rounds) to prepare. She brings in help in the form of a sickly-looking ancient woman, a ghostly girl in green flames, and a elfin figure with lightning playing about its body. Nira casts more spells as she directs her summoned creatures spellcasting as well.

Nira knows that once she starts the ritual, she will be able to direct her summoned creatures OR cast a Quickened Spell, she won’t be able to do both at the same time. (effect: any round where Nira casts a Quickened Spell, it will be DM judgement call on what the Hag, Witchfire, and Bralani do.)

The Bralani can’t be in 3 places at once, and can’t occupy the same space as the storm giant, so settles for in the air in between the Beige Parlor and Blue Bedroom. (ooc: I,14)

It was decidedly awe-inspiring to see such magic. Yrûl felt belittled, but resolved to do what she could to assist with the conjuration. To that end, as well as being the recipient of Blur and Invisibility, she did her best to become utterly silent (stealth). If somethi9ng nasty turned up, she wanted to be able to surprise it; that was of course dependent on Snickit and Dabz cooperating. With those two it was always something of a lottery.

Well not sure if we are overdoing it or if we are in for a wild ride, but here goes Ramirez adds to the defenses with a good hope spell. When the ritual begins, he will start a bardsong, and inspire competence for Nira.

Having spent 6 rounds casting 6 spells, Nira is ready and raring to go on the 7th. She gives a quick look to the heavens (which she presumes are still upwards relative to the hut) and then starts the ritual.

Yrûl resolves to do what she can and works to be silent and unseen.

Desdichado stands ready, wary for what might happen next.

Hmerrin, worried by Nira’s wariness, drinks a Barkskin and Heroism potion.

Gaffer gratefully takes the staff from Nira, then adds a Freedom of Movement spell to Nira.

Danko reaches for his magics and readies his last wall of force for the day. He won’t be able to cast another 5, 6, or 7th level spell until tomorrow!
(ooc: Danko has cast many spells today and has Charisma damage. The spell slots he has remaining are:
1st= 5 of 7 (-1 from CHR damage) (cast 1 mage armor, 1 shield)

Nira is ready and raring to go in 36 seconds (6 rounds), and begins (ooc: DM, please adjust the combat round clock to 7. Thank you.) A check on the ritual confirms there is no mention of what may happen if the ritual is interrupted. A quick look to the heavens, and she starts the ritual!

Round 7. Nira, the Ritual Lead, puts in the first ingredient and says the first incantation… Multi-colored sparks fly from the cauldron as a thin smoke entwines about the room (no combat effect).

Round 8 Nira adds the 2nd ingredient and incantation. All Doors slam shut, BOOM!.

Round 9 Then comes the 3rd ingredient and incantation. The Door to OddHolme remains shut, but the other seven fly open, BANG!

Round 10 The 4th ingredient and incantation. A great cacophony erupts from the other rooms. A discordant symphony from the Pink Room; squauks, roars, and hisses from the Yellow Room; spectral moans from the Beige Room; and the rattle of furniture and books and other noises from the other rooms. From their vantage points (Hmerrin-Beige, Yrul-Yellow, Danko-Pink, Ramirez-Blue), it looks like all the room’s flora, fauna, and furnishings have come to life and are headed to the Entrance Room; howling for blood!

Desdichado can hear nothing coming from the Grey Room; but he can see the Sphere of Annihilation is beginning to move… towards the Red Room!

Gaffer is blocked from seeing in any room from his location along one wall of stuff.

Hmerrin takes a breath.
"Here we go. I got the ghosties in the beige room."

The fighter pulls out his battleaxe, wielding it two-handed, and steps to the door of the beige room, hopefully blocking it.

"Anything tries to come in here gets whacked," he announces to it's occupants.

"Step back, Hmerrin! And you too, Witchy" Yrul called. As soon as they'd taken a 5' step away from the North wall Yrul called upon the shadows in the room. Down from the ceiling they descended belching an icy cold as the did. In the blink of an eye, black ice sealed off doors 4, 5, and 6. The dark ice was fully 10" thick It would, she hoped, hold for a while and permit them to focus their forces where they were needed most.

She was doubtful that the wall would hold for long, but any time bought was useful.

Nira's illusory double from the Mislead spell disappears. She figures it's ok. It means she's gone a little while without being attacked!

"Can anyone control the sphere?" she asks, while trying to keep her focus on the ritual.

It's a little concerning that objects have come to life, but Nira continues to recite the necessary magical words. "Treguna.. Mekoides.. Trecorum.. Satis Dee"

Hearing noise from every room, Gaffer instructs his giant companion "Stand in front of that door, block and attack anything trying to get through" pointing them towards the Blue room door.

The Sphere sounds like their biggest problem, but he hasn't a clue how to stop the thing and so busies himself with the other rooms.

With the giant out of the way, he will look into the Green room to see what is on the move inside. He is hesitant to risk damaging what may be needed back up ingredients, but it's the priority not to let any of them disturb Nira.

If there are signs of things inside the room moving aggresiely, he'll summon a circle of flame from the ground to engulf as much of it as possible.

The only one visible in the room at the start of the round is the Storm Giant.

Hmerrin, invisible, blocks the Beige Parlor door with his body and axe and announcement.

Yrûl cant’ see Hmerrin nor the Witchfire, so doesn’t know if they move or not, and casts a shadowy conjuration that calls into being a Wall of Ice that covers the north wall and seals off doors 4, 5, and 6.
(ooc: the wall is on the lines, not the squares, and since neither Hmerrin or Witchfire are interested in disrupting the spell, it takes effect.)

Desdichado announces the Sphere of Annihilation is moving too!

Nira asks if her friends can control the sphere, and helpfully provides information. Supposedly, a person can THINK at the Sphere to gain control of it. (ooc: Move Action. Control Check DC 30 (1d20 + character level + character Int modifier).

The elf-girl switches places with her invisible immortal summons (hag), and hopes someone can at least slow the sphere down, but continues to recite the necessary magical words and adds another ingredient. "Treguna.. Mekoides.. Trecorum.. Satis Dee"

Ramirez gets his bow ready, and continues to sing to Nira.

Gaffer gives directions to the Storm Giant for the Blue Bedroom and guards the Green Still Room himself. Every box and glass jar and table and dried strings of vines are waving about. 2 large stone tables are converging on the doorway!! Danko readies his cube of force, intending to keep out all things to protect Nira and keep at least a portion of the large cauldron covered. How that will affect the ritual is anyone’s guess... (DM moved Danko to M,19 to be adjacent to Nira.)

Round 11 The 5th ingredient and incantation.

A stone table attacks Gaffer, easily slipping past his armor, and thwacks him with a leg (AC 33 Brilliant Energy effect, miss chance 69%, 17 damage)

It looks like the stone giant is being attacked by pillows! They pack an electrical whallop, but the Storm Giant is immune! (ooc: how I wish I could give a Hero Point for this, the summoning a storm giant AND putting him guarding the Blue Room was inspired! Are you sure you didn’t sneak a peek at my module?! :-)

Hmerrin’s sight is blocked by the Wall of Ice, but before it was up, he could see that he was being attacked by a chair and a tea trolley. He noted that the ghosts were moaning loudly but NOT attacking.

Whatever was happening in the Library and Menagerie was also blocked by Yrul’s Wall of Ice, but then the whole spell goes down! There is one book floating in the doorway of the Library, and the gorilla’s cage and the anaconda’s box from the Menagerie. The gorilla looks frightened.
(Spellcraft Ramirez and Nira autopass: the Wall of Ice was destroyed by the equivalent of a Rod of Cancellation!)

Flying in from the Music Room is an Oboe and a Bodhran. Toot toot! Thumpa thumpa thump! There are only three visible things in the room, and they fly towards the cauldron!

And the Sphere of Annihilation moves closer.

Yrul noted the what was happening around the various doors, but could do little about it. She stepped in (Q.16) and hoped that Snickit and Dabz were paying attention: they had work to do.

[OOC: I've been wanting to use the Storm Giant for a while, glad I chose the right moment!]

Gaffer scans the room to see how they are doing on blocking the incoming objects, and spots that the library is unattended.

Yrul is observant, but thinks she can do little about it. She takes a 5’ step (ooc: P,16) and makes a full attack with Snickit and Dabz. Invisible, she sneaks in some terrible damage and the Oboe is smashed into pieces on the floor! (ooc: if Yrul moves more that 5’, she can only make a single attack. Moving to P,16, she is able to still reach Q,17 and do a full attack)(ooc: Yrul was invisible and constructs are NOT immune to Sneak Attack. DM rolled 9,4,13,6,13= 45 additional damage) Yrul is now visible.

Ramirez calls out, ”Keep blocking the doors, if we slow them down, we should be able to complete the ritual!” The bard keeps singing and moves a bit to see the black sphere and concentrates… nothing happens.

Desdichado also thinks reaaal hard at the sphere, and gets it to stop! The paladin can feel another will trying to move it forward, so the effect is that the Sphere doesn’t move at all. Because the Sphere doesn’t move, neither does Ferrin.

Hmerrin wonders at what the animated objects are doing, but at his personal area, the fighter is in his element. His second axe flips easily into his hand and he introduces himself to the animated chair, smashing it in three strikes! The tea trolley gets it next for another hit. Hmerrin is now visible.

Gaffer scans the room, keeps his giant on defending the blue room and casts a Wind Wall to stop more books from getting through from the library.

The Storm Giant tears 2 pillows apart!

Danko calls his Staff of Flame and casts a Wall of Fire to block off the entrance of the pink and gray rooms! It also, with the hot side away from the heroes, burns the cage and box coming from the Menagerie.

Round 12 The 6th ingredient and incantation.

Three stone tables crowd the door, attacking Gaffer as the druid stands like Horatio or Hodor. Two bypass all armor, but one strikes only air due to the Blur spell! (24 damage)

From the bedroom, two bed curtains attack the Storm Giant next. Anything that gets through causes no damage.

Hmerrin is confronted by another plush chair and the parlor table, and both get ready to strike. The tea trolley strikes out, bypassing all armor. (11 damage)

At the library, the Wind Wall is transparent, and so the heroes can see how one of the books moves up to the Wall and disintegrates. But in doing so, the Wind Wall comes down!

The gorilla cage moves into the Red Room and is blasted by three lightning bolts and a Witchfire (now all visible)! The cage makes all of its saves and still comes forward, but the gorilla is reduced to an ozone-scorched corpse. The cage and box ignore their flying antagonists and continue to approach the Cauldron. Two more cages, one with a parrot and one with a rabbit, approach the door…

The Bodhran flies forward towards the cauldron until it encounters the invisible Desdichado. Unable to move forward, it attacks, missing due to the invisibility. Suddenly, the Wall of Fire is also cancelled, and one Doumbek is in the doorway.

And the Sphere of Annihilation, in a contest of wills between Desdichado and the Hut… does not move.

The cacophony is growing louder, and those in doorways can see more things are coming… ever faster…

"Well done, you two." Yrûl congratulated her weapons for a job well done. Now what to do? having become visible, she wasn't likely to impart that degree of damage again She decided to target the library. She pulled on the last of her Shadow Magic and the shadows in the library erupted into flame! Fire ought to work against books - at least that was what she assumed. She then turned in readiness to face whatever came out of the music room.

Nira considers having the minions hold back on some of their abilities. It's possible that more powerful things will start to emerge the longer the ritual continues. She has them keep up their attacks anyway. "Keep using ranged attacks and focus on taking them down, one at a time"

Gaffer grimaces as the poor ape is disintegrated. He had considered and decided against releasing all of the animals into the Sargrass Plains, but he can't help but question that choice now.

Shaking his head, he knows it's not the time. He fends off attacks from the tables, Des' healing patching wounds just before they are reopened. The number of objects is increasing and they really need to focus on the sphere.

He moves back from the doorway, risking taking a few attacks as he does so, to make space for a bigger spell. Then with a fluid wave of his hands, he summons a sea of flames that starts from the green room and spreads around the south, east and then north edges of the red room while spilling through various doorways.

Yrûl congratulated her weapons, then pulls the last of her Shadow Magic into a fireball in the Library! The animated books have Spell Resistance, but is no match for the drow, and they are destroyed. Two down. Amazingly, the non-animated things in the library are untouched!

Hmerrin concentrates on turning furniture into kindling. Tea Trolley… smashed. Plush Chair… unstuffed. He’s holding the one door pretty good!

Desdichado loses control of the Sphere of Annihilation, and moves past the bodhran. The drum tries to give the paladin a short beating, but misses. Then the hero heals everyone within 30 feet. Luckily, animated objects can’t benefit from healing, so he only heals living people. (everyone but NOT Hmerrin or Gaffer)

Nira gives her information about the Identified Flying Objects, and keeps sidling along, and adds another ingredient while concentrating on the chanting. "Whuppity bairn, deru, deru!"

(Ooc: A control check is a move action, 1d20 + character level + character Int modifier.)

The bralani hit a table with three lightning bolts and it is still coming, and it takes the Witchfire to finally take it down.

Gaffer gives a moment of thought for the poor ape, but has to concentrate on his own fight. Des’ healing doesn’t reach Gaffer (paladin is 40’ away). He steps away from the door, getting tables trying to smack him (2 hit for 28 damage), and then unleashes a Fire Storm! All the objects have Spell Resistance, but Gaffer only reflects from 2, he others are flamed! While all three tables from the Green Room are still moving, none of his other targets are!

The Storm Giant finishes the two bed curtains.

Ramirez tries to concentrate on the sphere again but still has no luck.

Danko casts another firewall, covering the Pink and Gray rooms. They keep getting knocked down, but are delaying animated objects.

From the bedroom, two more bed curtains attack the Storm Giant. Anything that gets through causes no damage.

Hmerrin sees another 2 tea trolleys animate and roll to the door. The table strikes out, is confronted by another plush chair and the parlor table, and both get ready to strike. The tea trolley strikes out, minimally for 7 damage.

At the library, two new books animate and fly into the Red Room!

The cages with a parrot and rabbit inexorably move towards the cauldron, and two tables follow into the Red Room!

The fire wall obscures whats going on in the Pink Room, but as anticipated, it soon disappears, and only a trumpet is hovering in the doorway.

And the Sphere of Annihilation moves forward, entering the Red Room…

Gaffer has taken a few hits but he isn't worried yet, especially with the Staff of Healing in hand. "I'm alright Des."

With the tables out from the room, they are now in range of the Storm Giant, and Gaffer is quick to give direction. "Attack the moving tables closest to the cauldron, please."

As he's directing the Giant, he notices that the books are loose and splits his focus that way. More and more fire coming forth. The situation doesn't feel stable, but they are holding for the moment.

Desdichado doesn’t need to control the Sphere, backs up, and calls out if anyone needs assistance.

Hmerrin calls for frying tactics, and keeps blocking the doorway. Chop chop! Two more pieces of furniture become kindling!

Ramirez moves away from the table and continues to concentrate on the sphere.

Nira calls for her Bralanis to have new tactics: Wind Walls! The elf-girl herself stays in one place and keeps chanting. The Witchfire gets in a good blast on one table, it is covered in witchflame!

Danko moves 5' north then lobs a fireball into the pink room, taking out another flying object.

Gaffer changes the Storm Giant’s tactics, while still blocking the door, he reaches out to smash a table. The druid himself cases a second Fire Storm, two fliers turn to ash and two cages dodge, but none of the walking furniture is flammable, so doesn’t catch fire.

Round 14 The 8th ingredient and incantation.

The 5 stone tables are joined by 2 more, and they are getting faster! Both the Storm Giant and Gaffer can have an AOO. But there are still 5 tables slapping at the heroes! Gaffer gets struck 3 times! (42 damage)

From the bedroom, bed curtains, and a wash basin and pitcher lay into the Storm Giant’s back. Anything that gets through causes no damage.

Hmerrin sees the furniture is getting faster, and that no matter how many he destroys, the number inside the room doesn’t seem to change! The ghosts are wailing and moaning as 2 more chairs trot over to the door. This time, they are fast enough to get to the warrior and to strike! One misses due to the Blur spell, and Hmerrin takes 26 damage.

At the library, two book arrive and destroy two Wind Walls, destroying themselves in the process.

The menagerie is a cacophony of noises as cages and tables keep pushing into the Red Room! Both Desdichado can Aoo Cage “K”and Yrul can Aoo Table “L”. The cages, boxes, and tables converge on the invisible Desdichado, three missing, but one striking through his armor. (Des takes 12 damage)

A Didgeridoo and a Sousaphone fly out of the music room, the long wooden instrument destroying the third Wind Wall, and the Sousaphone omm-pahing to menace Danko…

Yrûl could not keep the surprise from her face. Her "voidish happy thoughts" had actually worked! The destructive globe had stopped moving! Then the table barged past instinctively Snickit sought to make his presence felt. She wanted to help, but couldn't quite determine the most vulnerable spot (Not quite flanking). Snickit struck true (AC: 37)

As the tables keep attacking him, Gaffer goes from feeling ok, to quickly quite concerned. Thankfully the storm giant starts swinging and lands a few heavy blows on the furniture.

With objects swarming forward, Gaffer tries to split his attention between healing himself and lessening the numbers infront of him. He would loved a few seconds of peace to summon another creature to take the hits instead.

Yrûl’s voidish thoughts actually worked! And between her opportunity and her picks (and the Bralanis, Witchfire, and Gaffer), she gets Cage L to stop moving!

Desdichado smacks Cage K hard, smashing it, and presses into Cage R making many cracks appear! Dez is now visible.

Ramirez continues to concentrate on the sphere and singing.

Hmerrin keeps swinging. Nira should be getting close… He only manages to smash one and damage another.

Gaffer quickly becomes concerned about the tables’ attacks. He defensively casts a healing spell on himself and keeps his shield in his hand. (ooc: can only hold/use 2 items at a time = Staff and Shield). The storm giant hits and hits again until Table I is smashed.

Danko sees that the green room thingies are becoming an issue. He casts a fireball just into the green room which catches Tables S, M, and T! S and M save (ooc: nope, I got no jokes here)

NIra continues her chanting and redirects her minions again, but the summonings are not nearly as effective.

At the library, two books fly in unopposed all the way to the cauldron! One is confused by Nira’s invisibility, but the other strikes the elf-girl. (3 damage and make a Concentration Check DC 18 or have to repeat the next incantation in the Ritual [ie. the Ritual will need 11 rounds, not 10]!)

Picks were great for locks, but Yrul doubted how effective they'd be against a cage. Still, there it was, right in front of her and both of her weapons were keen to make their mark. As was often the case, Snickit won that argument.

Snickit made a mad lunge for the cage and became ensnared between the bars! (2nd roll to determine just how bad the 1 was - more guidance for me than anything else. 18 meant a good recovery.)

"Salagadoola. Mechicka. BOOLA!"

Yrûl picks at “Q”, and focuses her thoughts on the Sphere of Annihilation. She gets it to stop, but there is another will contesting hers, and she can’t get it to move elsewhere. She is also able to get in one more attack, which misses.
(ooc: pick AOO, sphere is a move action, pick is a standard action. Full attack to use all attack rolls would require a full round action)

Hmerrin grimaces: things is getting bad by the cauldron. He pirouettes and all three pieces of furniture lash out at his back. One misses, one is confused by the Blur spell, and Hmerrin only takes 14 damage from the third. Then, he is among the flying books, shredding one with a single stroke!

Nira takes the hit and keeps her concentration! New orders and the elf-girl continues her chanting. Bralanis defend, and Witchfire fires, and Hag continues to be a living shield.

Ramirez switches to a heroic song of heroes from around the Wold, banding together to fight the plague of red Sargrass to inspire heroics!

Desdichado takes a swing at “W” as it passes by. He then removes himself from being flanked and presses the attack until “W” is unmoving!

Danko casts Telekinesis, but didn’t attempt it defensively. Surrounded by animated objects they all strike at him while the Sorcerer is distracted. One misses (nat 1), but the other two strike Danko for 22 damage. And now Danko needs to Concentrate DC 37 or the Telekinesis is disrupted! (DM rolled 25) The spell fizzles!

"Salagadoola. Mechicka. BOOLA!" NIra adds the 10th ingredient and completes the 10th incantation.

Instantly, the animated objects stop. The howling stops. The rattling and noises stop. And things start moving back to their rooms. Tables, chairs, and cages return to their assigned places. Books and musical instruments float back into their appropriate rooms.

The Sphere of Annihilation recedes back into its Gray Mausoleum.

Smashed objects, chips, and the other detritus of combat move as if caterpillars or ants are carrying them (Perception DC 20: the red rug itself is flicking its fabrics to move the wreckage) until they are against the walls with all of the other bric-a-brac.

All the Doors can move again.

And the Cauldron has stopped bubbling. Nira and Danko are close enough to see the surface is as still as glass, and it shows 2 scenes. The first is well-known: the courtyard of Tide House in Dirt City! The second looks like a lush, tropical forest, wild and yet manicured.

”Hmmph, took you long enough!” A voice breaks the stillness in the Red Room, and all eyes turn towards the Door to OddHolme. On the door lintel stands a small Imp dressed in a red felt coat and stocking cap that are both lined with fluffy white fur. Each hero could swear that he wasn’t there during the battle. ”The Gray Traveller is mighty pleased, yep, mighty.”

A twinkle in its eye and tilt of its head soon gives the heroes to know there is nothing to dread. But maybe quite a bit to ask…

The heroes have the initiative.

[OOC: Sorry for the missed post, day got away from me. Glad we got through it anyway though!]

Gaffer resists the urge to slump down as soon as the ritual is complete. But let's out a quiet "Yaaaay" of tired victory.

He isn't too surprised that the hut can tidy itself given the extent of it's defensive. He is however both surprised and wary when he sees the imp. Perhaps someone wants to lend them a hand against the Rakshasa now that they are nearly there. That would be nice.

The name Gray Traveller doesn't ring a bell, and he looks to the others for their reactions, while quietly returning to Nira their staff. The Storm Giant will fade in half a minute and make some more space in the hut.

"Well, I was going as fast as I could." Countered Yrûl defensively. As with Gaffer the name didn't resonate with her. Still, it didn't sound very auspicious, but then, grey simply wasn't an auspicious colour. In fact, it was barely a colour at all. What was more promising was that the imp was bedecked in red and white. Yrûl did like her colour.

"So...ah....who are you and what's a Grey Traveller? she enquired optimistically before casting her eyes towards the room that held the sphere. She couldn't help but wonder what strange, entropic thoughts the little void was having now.

Seconds after the animated objects start retreating, the bralani vanish. They served their purpose well and their blur spells probably saved the party a lot of pain.

"See if you can find anything obviously valuable in the other rooms and then bring them in here" she directs her last two summons "And if anything attacks you make sure to call out". The magical aura here is too powerful to discern magical items from mundane, so they minions are just going to have to judge things for themselves. She doesn't expect them to find everything (or perhaps anything?) but she's quite tired at the moment so is happy to delegate the task.

Now that Nira has gained control of the hut it makes her wonder: could this hut become a place to retire in the future? Has it now changed hands from a bad witch to a good witch? It does come with an extensive library too.

"Phew. I'm glad he's pleased. It's been a very, VERY long day. I'm relieved we didn't have to meet him under different circumstances"

If the Tide deal with the sudden end to the swarming battle in various ways, they react to the strangely clothed Imp. Nira’s summonings are able to glean some more valuables. Beyond what they already got from the Sargrass Ambergris and Yolpova’s personal belongings, the team is able to gather enough wealth for everyone to have a total of 685,000gp (equivalent of 19th WBL)

Gimp the Imp, for that is who it is, grins lopsidedly at being named. ”Yep, that’s me! I’m not supposed to give away secrets, so I won’t tell you why the big guy is pleased, but I’m sure it’s NOT because he doesn’t like constructs, or people messing with Woldsblood, or being dissed by a whole plane of irreverent spirits. No, it’s gotta be something else…”

“No worries. I’m just here to deliver a message. Since you have control of the Dancing Hut for a while, you can use the cauldron to show you one of the pictures, then use the Door here to go to THAT place and back again. Once. I suggest you rest up in Mud Village or Dirt Town or Dust City. You know, that place you are from, before you say ‘welcome to the jungle’. Cause they have fun and games.”

With that, the Imp vanishes, but a small, gift-wrapped package falls from where Gimp was perched and lands at Yrûl’s feet. When she opens it, it reveals a Talisman just like what Vyrnix gave the others!

The Tide, Hmerrin, Gaffer, Desdichado, Nira, Ramirez, Danko, and Yrul find themselves in the Red Room of Baba Yaga's Dancing Hut. The eight doors to other locations are closed, the cauldron in the center of the room is still, and the mounds of stuff against every available wall has had some additional bric-a-brac added from the last battle. From their previous experience, the Tide knows they can find nearly anything in the piles; but it is much easier the more common and generic the item. (i.e. a bunch of carrots would be really easy to find, but Danko's teddy bear from when he was 5 would be much more difficult.)

Yrul has a small gift that turns out to be a "Vyrnix’s Talisman" (Fate Item). Warm to the touch, this 4” dragon’s tooth is gold at the root and fastened to a cord of twisted dragon scale. Effect: neck slot; Epic bypass first DR 15 of opponent and gives +5 Spell Penetration to any spell cast by the wearer. Only useable on the home plane of the Maharaja.

Gaffer also has a package, neatly wrapped and labeled "To Gaffer with much appreciation from Djali Merrytoes, Catacombs"

Yrul, Nira, and Gaffer also have some news: while they were in the Catacombs, Yrul was being served by a middle-aged woman named Tishe' Weaver, and she had admitted she was the same Tishe' that had hired the drow-girl back in Hook City to find her Spinning Wheel in OddHolme!

With keen perception (Danko skill is 21), he is able to find a dozen carrots in a bunch. (Finding anything requires stating what one is trying to find, and then rolling a Perception Check.)

Nira, having done the ritual, realizes the Tide has some mis-interpretation on what 'control' they have on the Hut. The particular ritual that the Tide did does NOT allow her to control where the Hut goes: The Hut isn't going to teleport to Dirt City. What Nira can do is change the entrance door to open in one of three places:
1. Wherever the Hut currently is (OddHolme for now, maybe somewhere else if the Hut moves).
2. The courtyard of Tide House in Dirt City.
3. A lush, tropical forest, wild and yet manicured ( a jungle location on Rakshasa plane).

Since it looks like the group is in no immediate danger, Nira checks to see if the door to the library will open. She plans to grab as many books as possible to improve the 'library' at Tide House. 12 books hardly makes a library! "Before we head back to the house, perhaps we should quickly pop outside and let the locals know that everything is ok? They might be worried about what they saw and we should warn them not to come inside" She says aloud while moving bric-a-brac about. The heroes think through the implications of the Hut. Nira thinks Hmerrin’s reasoning is sound, but Danko and Gaffer plan to have at least one Tide member in the Hut at any one time… just in case.

Nira is able to take books out of the Library without consequences, well, other than then there is an empty spot on a bookshelf. It’s a nice handful and easily triples the current Tide House library!

Hmerrin finds a small chest full of low-grade diamonds! (Which is included in the wealth that the PCs have acquired from the Hut and already set in the WBL this month)

Ramirez finds some spell components, a rhubarb leaf and an adder's stomach.

Yrul finds something useful: it is a Spork!

Gaffer finds some acorns and holly berries!

Hmerrin is immensely pleased with himself at finding diamonds in a trashed hut.

He nods along happily at Nira's suggestion to pull a quick check in on the Sargrass natives.
"Good a test of our control over this thing as any," he muses.

With that, he strides over to the door and swings it open.
"Hello? Everybody good, er, uh, shadowy out there? We won. All good, er, shadowy."

Ramirez joins Hmerrin checking in on the town, and see if they need any help with damage from the fight.

She waits for everyone to be back together before controlling the door to open at Tide house. Nira waits for the others to leave the hut before she does, as she's not entirely sure what would happen otherwise.

Danko heads to the Catacombs to pick up some trinkets.
