Gnubert nods at the others, "I think you are correct. We should move back there and quickly." Gnubert packs the pyramid away, and carefully stows it in his haversack.

Torryn didn't remember the conversation with the old women but she was glad she had spot because that was a ways away.
Manolo asks if there was another altar where they fought the golems also thinking out loud albeit slower.
Drack listens to the others recollections and puts together that this dungeon only held the key and that they need to find or get to the key hole. He says if there is no other way here they need to get back to the other altar.
Mortimer agrees with Manolo remember the other altar had the skinned man on it.
Loryn falls in behind the lead as the group makes their way back to the surface and the beach. Once there he mounts his lizard and with a pat to its head, they head back to the massacre of the campsite.
Gnubert nods at the others and says they should move back there and quickly as he packs the pyramid carefully in his haversack.
The party leaves the dungeon, making their way out of the passage in between it and the abandoned fishershack on the coast. They then end up in the fisher shack and then outside.
The party soaks up some of the coastal rays before setting out on another week-long dreary trek. It doesn't take long for the coastal sun to fade to the drab sickly woods. Once again your sleep is plagued by the bleakness and emptiness of your environs.
After a week of travel the party arrives at the clearing they set out from only to get a shock as they notice that all life, animal and plant within 50 yards of the clearing is dead.
Six bodies litter the ground – adults, more than was with the children.
Hanging from a dead tree nearby are dolls that look like the PC’s. There first 3 are taller male dolls dressed in outfits that resemble Ash's, Manolo's and Mortimer. Next there is a slightly shorter male and female pair with pointed ears outfitted like Drack and Torryn. Lastly are 2 much shorter dolls resembling Gnubert and Loryn.

The journey back hadn't been too arduous for Torryn. She could ride Spot. Furthermore she could give Gnubert a lift. Thus the group's speed would not be slowed by the small feet of the little people. her delight in the beauty of Nature was abruptly curtailed by the horrendous sight that greeted them in the 'clearing'.
"Eww, those dolls are made out of skin....and it looks like people-skin." Torryn gasped, trying not to be sick. she'd seen nasty things before, but something like this, was just sickening. Someone had taken a lot of time and effort to craft such abhorrent things and likely enjoying the doing of it.
She blinked several times and then composed her breathing as she'd been taught: in through the nose, out through the mouth. She focused on her spirit and aligning it to one purpose. It was just the sort of thing a good Sacred Dancer should do! Then she opened her Feysight (Detect Magic) and tapped into her Sacred dancer ability to sniff out Evil. (Detect Evil)

Drack notices the dolls made of skin.(perception 23) Anger wells up inside him, and he greatly looks forward to ending these witches.
"I'm guessing we need to do something at the altar with the triangle, but I will leave that up to you smart arcane folks. Let's get on with it. These witches have defiled the Wold long enough."
When someone moves toward the altar with the triangle, Drack pulls his sword, and stands close by.
"Any idea what is going to happen if we do this right?"

Loryn pulls his lizard Drith up short as the clearing is devoid of all living things and dismounts. no need to subject the creature to what might found further in.
The gnome is not prepared the revelation and he is also a bit confused at the additional victims. "Did they send another group? I know it is an awful ask, but can anyone identify anyone?" The question just sort of came out and the gnome is not waiting for a response as he takes a deep breath and moves to the altar.
"Pyramid." he absently corrects Drack. It didn't matter, but his mind needed to stay on a topic that made sense to him, else he might go mad.
Loryn casts Mirror Image and sets the Pyramid on the altar, followed by the candles sticks and the candles upon them. Barring anything happens, he will light the candles as a possible final step

As far as the corpses are concerned, he has spent an extensive amount of time around the dead, having worked as a gravedigger (and robber). He looks them over to see if he recognizes anything about them (Knowledge [Local]: 20).
As Loryn begins to put the pyramid on the altar. Mortimer states, "This supposed ta take us to the Frozen Chapel, yeah. You guys should put on somethin' warm!"

He delight in the beauty of Nature was cut short by the sight they greeted them in the clearing. She points out that the dolls are made of people skin and uses her magic and evil detecting abilities.

Torryn's eyes widened in horror. Such necromancy was an abomination and had no place in the natural world. Almost simultaneous to the horror was a sense of relief. She'd invoked her Fey Armour in timely fashion. Perhaps her instincts were improving. Those instincts now told her to double her wards and aid Morty and Loryn. She called forth her Fey Shield (Shield now also in effect) and then moved forward to interpose herself between the undead and her vulnerable friends.

Mortimer should have been able to smell the necromancy from where he was standing. He's more disappointed with himself for not noticing it than the sight of the dead slowly shambling to their feet.
He backs away out of their reach and mutters a few words of power. The shadows around him coalesce around him and forms a protective barrier.
"Life would be sooo much easier if the dead stayed dead, yeah," he complains with a roll of his eyes.

These were nasties! Torryn could practically feel the unearthly chill leeching out of them. She was very glad that she'd opted to invoke her Fey magic, but now Dracky needed her help. Sure, she couldn't inflict damage like he could, but she could at least try to spare him from further harm. She stepped forward, taking the fight to the ugly one in front of her. (W5) Calling upon her training she struck out with two rapid palm strikes.
The first (Nat 20) struck perfectly to the neck! (Confirmed critical, hits AC:23) (Damage is 3 if it is immune to criticals, - I don't think they are in Pathfinder- otherwise 9 - or 10 if Arcane Strike also gets doubled)
Her follow up attack went to the body (AC: 14) - a miss. (no doubt)

Mortimer begins to speak a few words of power. He takes a handful of shadow and sends a volley of shadow bolts at injured wight (W1) that struck Drack.

He heroically reaches down deep and force another spell into being. He suddenly feels a lot more lucky and confident.

Gnubert identifies the creatures, and call out the information to his companions. The cleric takes a 5 foot step to his left to J 22. Gnubert casts Magic Circle Against Evil on himself which should help protect everyone except Manolo. Gnubert hollers out to Manolo, "Manolo, move towards me. Stay within 10 foot for some additional protection from these creatures!"
Magic Circle against Evil:
First, the subject gains a +2 deflection bonus to AC and a +2 resistance bonus on saves. Both these bonuses apply against attacks made or effects created by evil creatures.
Second, the subject immediately receives another saving throw (if one was allowed to begin with) against any spells or effects that possess or exercise mental control over the creature (including enchantment [charm] effects and enchantment [compulsion] effects, such as charm person, command, and dominate person). This saving throw is made with a +2 morale bonus, using the same DC as the original effect. If successful, such effects are suppressed for the duration of this spell. The effects resume when the duration of this spell expires. While under the effects of this spell, the target is immune to any new attempts to possess or exercise mental control over the target. This spell does not expel a controlling life force (such as a ghost or spellcaster using magic jar), but it does prevent them from controlling the target. This second effect only functions against spells and effects created by evil creatures or objects, subject to GM discretion.

Mortimer identifies the creatures as Frost Wrights and tells the party they are not to be trifled with. He fires off a shadow bolt at the one that Drack damaged. He then fheroically buffs himself with Luckyism. Drack grimaces as he feels the life being sucked out of him. He warns the others before attacking the nearest Wight though his blade does minimal damage. Loryn also identifies the creatures he then converts scorching rays to his acidic bloodline and dissolves W5 with 2 rays of acid Ash Slams a bolt into w3 and tells the others if they know raise dead it would destroy the wights outright. The Wight dodges some of the bolt. (18 vs 18 = pass) Gnubert identifies the creatures and takes a five foot step. He then casts Magic Circle Against Evil protecting everyone except Manolo. It would have been good to strike twice, but her first blow had been so solid as to knock the creature back beyond the reach of her second attack. She tried again.
She called upon her Fey spirit to imbue her attacks with their arcane might as she kicked out. The undead abomination was however, faster than it looked and she only managed to catch its knee. It danced away from her second sweep. She wasn't doing much damage. In truth, she rarely did, but she could hold its attention and spare others from becoming its next victim.

Heeding the advice given, Torryn again focused her Fey energies into her attacks. She spun, whipping her left foot up and around to slash down at her grisly foe. The elegant move was a victory of style over substance. It fell well short of its intended target. ( NB- 2nd d20 roll to see if it was a critical miss - for me, for RP purposes. It wasn't.) Torryn stumbled forward after her momentum spun her around, but she utilised her Dancer skills to regain balance to plant a Thrust Kick into its midsection ((4 damage)

So, if you want me to take the pyramid up and see if does anything, I will give it a go." She wasn't really sure what would happen, but doubted it would open a gate through which hordes of undead nasties would pour. That didn't make any sense at all, because the thing itself wasn't evil. Still, she didn't want to imperil Manny, who was still looking decidedly peaky. She looked to the others and then smiled. Look at her! Actually waiting and not charging off impetuously. perhaps there was hope for her yet.

(How narrow is the spiral staircase? Is it carved out of the rock? IE: Stone encircling it. Which way does it spiral? If descending to goes to the right, she would anticipate that offers the best defence to those below. If it twists to the left, it works better for those descending - presuming those are right handed.
Torryn will take the lead if asked or defer to Drack if he requests to do so.

They twist to the right and are carved out of the rock. There is a small vestibule at the bottom where you can gather. A rough hewn passage leads further on. (OOC: what is your marching order?) In fairness, she had to concede that he did a good job of it, but perhaps this time a little more stealth was required.

Gnubert falls into place and moves as quietly as he can (Stealth DC 9, Perception DC 22). The gnome looks visibly embarassed as he stomps down the stairs. As he does so the gnome keeps an eye out for danger.

She then readies her bow and calls upon her training. Mortimer casted darkvision on himself previously so he can see what lurks down in dark places. Manolo coughs as Mortimer helped him with some luck and agrees to go first. Drack grudgingly falls into line a little ways behind Manolo and Torry trying to be as quiet as his armor will allow. He offers to use his sunrod but points out they’ll see him coming. Loryn hands Manolo a candle with a light spell on it and agrees to the marching order that Torryn suggested and falls in behind Gnubert and steps softly and quite slowly. Mortimer nods with the proposed lineup and prepares to push Ash out of the way should things go pear shaped. Ash follows the group and takes his place at the end of the line and before moving out he casts mage armor on himself. Gnubert falls into place and moves as quietly as he can (Stealth 9; Perception 22). The gnome looks visibly embarrassed as he tramps down the stars and keeps an eye out for danger.
The party slowly makes its way down the passage. Torryn’s evil detecting sensor extends into the darkness. "Badness!" Torryn hissed as she moved forward unhesitatingly. If she was correct in her assessment, someone or something back there, in that large room - something that could see her - was casting a spell. It was evil and so HAD to be stopped. Instinctively, she'd wanted to invoke her Fey Shield, but that might risk something harmful happening to everyone. Thus she moved 40' forward in an attempt to see the see the would-be attacker.
On the subsequent round, Torryn released her arrow. The arrow immediately burst into flame as it streaked across the intervening distance. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

She also knows it is casting a spell and moves 40 feet forward to not find her contact but she finds 2 others in front of her and lets fly an arrow at one of them. Drack takes a double move into the room listening for anyone casting a spell so he knows where to go. Manolo stealths forward and then rushes the one on the left Lorryn moves up as fast as his little gnome legs can carry him Mortimer casts spectral hand and moves forward Gnubert reminds folks of his circle of protection and hustles forward to try to keep up with the rest of the group and casts bless trying to get as many folks as possible. It goes from bad to worse with Ash. First his wand attack doesnt effect the hag( spell resistance 8) and then his world goes black.
He quickly starts callinh out the exact position of the two hags, and adds " they're draining the life and energy of the children. Disrupt the alter if you cannot find the hags. "
Ash ducks down to minimize his size. Even blind he can recite words and wave his hands. He pulls a small candle and bag from his pockets and casts Summon Monster IV, summoning a LG Hound Archon.
Once arrived, Ash (hopefully) looks at celestial being. " My holy friend of the heavens.. Evil hags are harming children and we cannot see them... end them please and save the children".

Torryn moved forward towards the children to see what she could do for them. yet in moving she remained alert and continued to focus her Sacred Dancer ability to Detect Evil. When a hag appeared and attacked Ash, she immediately loosed an arrow at her.
Hits AC:23. Damage: 10 + 3 Fire. = 13.
Gnubert's spell surged through her eliminating all the harm that the hag's dark magic had inflicted.

Map still not working for me. Drack will call upon his smite evil ability and charge the visible hag, swinging once. Power attack by 4, hitting ac 35 and a crit on ac 33 (welcome back friendly die roller. it's been awhile since we have seen each other.) Crit damage 54.

Mortimer was hoping he could stupefy the witch to where they couldn't cast spells. However he could sense that nothing went right with that casting. He then takes the opportunity to move in behind (opposite of Drack) and flank the witch.

DM Hugh & Mitch - Contacts in the Dark map Tuesday February 13th, 2024 11:09:09 PM Ash starts announcing the positions and actions of the hags, or at least what they were doing before he went blind. He summons an ally. Torryn quickly reacts to the hag appearing. Drack smites evil very effectively once again. Fights are easy, just crit every round! Mortimer goes for the visible hag but it’s dead again. This also makes his acrobatics unnecessary. Manolo goes to damage the altar and fails. (OOC:Altar has +10 nat armor; effective dex score of 0 and hardness 8 so Altar has AC of 15/0/15) Loryn refreshes his images and would have cast glitterdust but Drack has already killed the hag Gnubert casts Sanctuary on himself and moves behind the altar trying to use his magic circle to protect some of the children. Ash can tell that the ritual has stopped. When his vision clears though the Hag does not appear to be anywhere near the altar, the children or party.

With the haste spell aiding her movement, Torryn quickly darted back to the entrance. She maintained her search. Could she detect invisible evil? Surely she could. After all, if she closed her eyes and focused, she’d still know that evil was nearby. At least, that was her logic. Her logic also informed her that the hag might to try to avoid its imminent demise and flee. That was why she positioned herself thusly and to permit herself the opportunity to scan as much of the room as possible. She held her bow ready, arrow nocked to the string. If she found some evil, she was going to shoot it!

Looking down at the second dead witch, Mortimer turns to Drack and says, "Ya didn't leave much for me, mate. I'll take what I can get." He turns back down to the witch's corpse and states in a hushed tone, "There're worse things than death, yeah. Death is a mercy. There'll be no mercy for you!"
Another voice, over Mortimer's shoulder, hollow and quiet, whispers, 'lat'll be comaumn wiavh alnej now.' The casual observer may not notice that Mortimer is no longer casting a shadow.
Mortimer turns away and walks back to the altar. He casts Detect Magic in an attempt to see any magical auras where there shouldn't be.

This last one was being quite the elusive creature and Loryn did not have much in the way of revealing her. He was pretty sure that most Detect spells would not reveal the location, only the precence of magic or evil or what have you. No, it would be a matter of waiting for the thing to strike and striking back, well to the gnomes thinking at least. Loryn also wanted to start to see what kind of condition those in the cages might be in and so to that, Loryn moves up 40' to K6. Once there he will READY on the hag to appear from an attack, with a Glitterdust

Ash looks up and makes an offer to the summoned help. Loryn reflects that they’ll likely have to wait for the enemy to attack and attack back. He’ll ready an action. Drack waits and listens carefully. He suggests Torryn back up a little more into the tunnel. Gnubert addresses the children and tried to heal them. The party turns its detection cones in various directions. Torryn sweeps as much of the room as she can but does not find anything with her detect evil in the room; Mortimer turns his magic detecting cone towards the altar and can feel the dissipating lingering aura of the ritual they cut short. (OOC: you guys got lucky on this next part; I rolled random directions for the hound archon to sweep and he sweeps from W to SE (using a d8 for directions) The hound archon turns his head to the West and then sweeps SW, S only to end up facing the south east. It uses its truespeak ability to say in common, “The hag is already in the hallway somewhere behind Torryn” as it moves towards the entrance. It says again, “It is now beyond the range of my detect evil cone” as the hag must have took its turn

ugh Torryn groaned. She'd been just that little bit too slow. Still, she was pleased that she'd had the right idea. Moreover, it was clear now why she wasn't detecting evil - it was behind her! She turned and ran.
(Torryn moves 40 and has haste still in effect. She seeks to catch up with the invisible hag, using her Detect Evil ability to try to spot it. Failing that she'll be guided by the Hound Archon.

The hag was no longer an immediate threat and so Loryn turns his attention to the cages. Starting with the one he is standing in front of. A quick inspection reveals little Perception 7 and so he switches to vocals.

Mortimer was about to make chase but he then closes his eyes and remembers there's a whole group of kids in cages hanging right behind him. He wasn't going to leave them alone with these two corpses. Bits of empathy keep creeping in, making decisions difficult.
Mortimer turns to face his shadow, who had just returned. It looked confused and shrugged before going back to following Mortimer's movements. Mortimer tilts his head and stares blankly at the floor. After a moment of deep thought, he turns his gaze back to the children. "Hey kiddies! Let's getcha out of those cages. I bet ya needta stretch those legs, yeah!"
Mortimer begins at trying to figure out how to open the cages. He eyes the altar as he walks by, to see if there is a key for the locks or a drawer or compartment that would contain them. His Detect Magic is still active and if that helps to find a solution, he'll use it.

Drack wants to go 3 for 3 for hag kills. Manolo joins the chase Loryn stays to look over the cages and try talking to the children. Mortimer is ready to run off but there’s kids still locked in cages. His shadow is confused and his dice roller angry at him for some reason. Gnubert searches the area for some way to release the children.
Some of the party gives chase to the remaining hag while the rest start seeing to the children. Those chasing the hag w/ detect evil detect her as being somewhere down the hallway Ash or Perception 55Highlight to display spoiler: {As the party starts catching up to her, she continues moving invisibly down the hallway and into the antechamber with the stairs} The hag has taken her turn, still opting for flight instead of confrontation for now it would seem ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Those looking at the cages find that there are 20 children spread out amongst the various cages.

Noticing that none of the locks are magical in nature, merely mechanical, he offers up a suggestion, "Loryn, try and find a key to these cages. I will get out my thieving tools and see if I can pick these locks."
Mortimer reaches into his haversack and pulls out a single item. It's not a leathery pouch of thieves tools, like he suggested, it was a hefty, steel crowbar. Mortimer was never one for subtly. He tries to make little work at prying off the locks.

The hag is now confined to the room having both the hallway and staircase in frustration it turns visible in the far corner attacking Torry with 2 gloombind bolts.

Torryn rushed to the stairwell seeking to thwart the invisible creature's egress. She continued to call upon her Sacred Dancer ability to Detect Evil, hoping it would inform her when the hag was within striking range.
She again scanned the area before her and lo' and behold! Was that the fiend just there?
(Got a Natural 20 for Perception. However, this only adds to 31. If she can spot he hag, she will lose a readied arrow at her. AC:21. Damage: 4, Fire: 5)

Manolo had his Light candle and as he was possibly engaged with Drack and the Hag, Loryn couldn't cast the spell again here as it would plunge them into darkness. Not ideal during a fight to the death for humans, or at least that would be his assumption.
Heck, he couldn't see anything either. He know Mortimer could and was in the area and so he inquires to the pitch, "Anything you can do to get them out Mortimer? I'm about as useful as a beard on a gnome here."

Mortimer hadn't noticed the room going dark as he struggled with the locks. He's disappointed in his black crow, it's never failed before.
He turns around to answer Loryn, having just realized the only light source had gone with the others. "No problem, mate. Let me open your eyes." Mortimer speaks a few words of power and next thing Loryn and Gnubert feel are the hairs on the backs of their necks stand up from the touch of Mortimer's ghostly third hand.

Drack moves forward and attempts to power attack the hag but his added power threw off his accuracy enough for him to miss. Lorryn asks Mortimer if there is anything he could do to get the children out. Ash tries to send 3 bolts the hag’s way and says a pithy remark but the hag’s spell resistance causes the bolts to fizzle. Manolo tries to trip the hag but she retains her feet. Mortimer casts Darkvision and starts looking for a key. Gnubert thanks Mortimer for the darkvision and then starts searching the dead hag for a key. The hound archon also attempts to attack the hag but misses

The dark bolts slammed into Torryn doing tremendous damage, causing her to stagger in pain. Darkness briefly threatened to cloud her vision, but she fought it off.

When the children started to say that the witches had plans to eat them, that strikes a very sensitive cord within Mortimer. He knows well the fear these children have felt. He knows well the sensation of being ripped apart and eaten by ravenous goblins when he was their age.

She could heal herself. Perhaps she should, but what little healing ability she possessed just wasn't going to make any difference against potent magic like that which had just struck her. Torryn decided that the best form of defence here would be attack. She dropped her bow, stepped forward and attacked. Her idea was to land a Stunning Blow. If that worked the hag wouldn't be able to use her magic - she hoped.

He then asks the children if any of them knows what happened to the key. “One of the hags had it on her.” a child responds Manolo is ready to attack the witch further but Drack beat him to it. Gnubert suggests they beat the heck out of the locks and force their way in.

Torryn breathed a sigh of relief. Another hit from the hag and she'd likely have perished: no more dancing for a while! She smiled at Ash. The lightning bolt had worked. It was worth the risk to destroy such evil and what sort of Sacred Dancer was she if she couldn't dodge a bit of magic like that? Now, she had better do something about those injuries, because currently, everything hurt. Yet as she was about to do just that she espied a lump in the hag's clothing. Bending slowly and carefully she unfolded some scorched and bloodied fabric to reveal a stout, functional, but decidedly ugly-looking key. The head or bow of the key was skull shaped and it was a rather demonic seeming skull too. It did not however, radiate any evil when she sought it out.
"Oh look, a key. I bet that's important, right?" She asked whilst holding up the key carefully between finger and thumb, evidently being reluctant to touch it any more than that.
As soon as the key was handed over, she turned to the issues of her injuries and asked her patrons if they'd be kind enough to diminish the worst of those hurts.

He moves back to the cages and addresses the children, "It's going to be ok We're the Argentium, from Windhorne and we just need to find the key and we can get you. Part of our group is just down the hall searching there and if we need to, they can bust the locks."
With the sounds of the fight nearby ending, Loryn pulls the second candle out and casts Light Hoping that by pushing back the darkness literally, the children would be more assured this nightmare was coming to a close

"Yes, I can do that and thank you for the blessing." Torryn replied to Drack. With the Haste still in effect she was able to quickly make her way back to the others (Move 70'). There she handed over the key to Manolo.
"Here, Dracky said that you might need this. Nasty thing, isn't it?" She happily handed over the horrid looking key. She then turned to the children.
"Don't worry, we'll soon have you out now. You know all those nasty hags are dead. We've got you." Tarryn smiled reassuringly. It wasn't so much what she said as how she said it. She was always one for seeing the bright side of things and this was no different. That enthusiasm and joie de vivre was infectious.

Drack heals a bit and to Torry and suggests she run the key back and they search the area for secret doors. He loots the hag. Loryn shrugs and decides they should just wait. He reassures the kids some more. Mort wonders why the last is taking longer to die then the first two. He feels like he’s missing something and casts detect magic. Ash asks the archon for one last favor. Manolo helps with the search. The hound archon does as requested and turns into a doggo heading back to the main area with the others.
With the key found it doesn’t take long to use it to open the cages and before long the team find themselves the shepherds of 20 children who soon mob the hound archon in doggo form. With the children free and the hags destroyed the Old Lady appears for the last time. She has a sad look on her face and says, “These were my fair daughters, Triplets, identical in every way save their hair. Evil and jealous witches stole my children, and turned them against me. Thank you for what you have done. You have freed them and now I can finally rest in peace. The Old Lady toes the ground once more, then fades away. What do you do now?

Loryn chuckles a bit at Mortimer's remark concerning Drack. The group returned and the children free is a joyous moment,, cut short by the appearance of the old woman and her tragic tale. The gnome's heart goes out to her, but he knows of nothing he can provide, he simply mouths quietly , Rest well mother and turns his attention back to the children.
"Yes, yes quite right Torrynashkabbeth! Let's go find some sun and fresh air!"
Loryn gestures for Torrynashkabbeth to lead the way. As the exit begins, he fades back to Mortimer, "Once they are clear of the chamber, we can give a proper scour of the place and then catch up."

Mortimer winces a little when the spirit revealed that these three hags were her daughters. He had called them all some rather choice names during their little dance together.
(ooc: We haven't gotten any results from three rounds of searches by three players. Were there any magical auras present, curious trinkets or at least a few decorative tchotchkes that we can take home and show off?)
As they bring the children to the staircase, Mortimer remembers they left quite a mess with the wights topside. Maybe, just maybe, exposing the children to mutilated bodies would be a bad thing. "Maybe.. a few of us should go up first and smarten up the place, yeah."

Torryn is perfectly happy to lead the children away. "Hmm, you know, there might be some ickiness when we get out. Don't worry about though, because it's just Bad Guys: dead ones. the sort of dead that doesn't get back up. We 'icked' them good and proper." She explained cheerily to the children as if it was all perfectly ordinary, which was what she wanted them to believe. If the sight was too gory, she'd be the first to see it and take steps to cover the worst of it. that was the plan anyway. She was sure that the others could cope well enough without her 'expert' searching skills.

Gnubert was just about to take his mace to the locks when the rest of the party shows up. Gnubert slides back and allows the cages to be opened. Gnubert nods to Mortimer and points towards the outside. Gnubert takes the time to channel healing everyone for 20,including the children. The cleric heads to the surface to m9ve bodies and such.

Drack says he’s fine with one or two people taking the Children to the surface but they need to do a thorough search of this place as they need a way to feed all the kids. He asks the Children if the hags opened any doors or compartments the party can’t currently see.
One of the children says, “See that sack in the corner over there? It had hard tack in it until it ran out just before you showed up. The hags said something about not needing to feed us anymore once the ritual was complete”
Torry is happy to lead the children away. She warns them of some ickiness on the surface but assures the kids that it is perfectly normal.
Manolo will check the place stating he finds it hard to believe they didn’t find anything powerful
Gnubert was just about to take his mace to the locks when the rest of the party shows up. He slides back and allows the cages to be opened. He nods to Mortimer and then points towards the outside taking the time to channel

Mortimer makes quick work dragging away the corpses hiding them in the overgrowth. "Whoops," he says as he spots a stray liver on the ground. He gives it a swift kick into the brush with the side of his boot. Making sure the children keep what's left of their innocence.
As soon as all the children are safely above ground and breathing fresh air, he heads back down to help out with the search for treasure. Mortimer thinks that it feels like months (more like 240 days ago) since they found any meaningful loot. Now he makes sure to pinch every scrap of swag that's not firmly bolted down; like the good ole days. (Perception: 26, NATURAL 20!!!!)
Mortimer does make one observation though ... "If this be the Frozen Chapel, not very chapelie or chilly, it was!"

Loryn uses detect magic to search the place. Monolo finds nothing and is annoyed. Mortimer drags the corpses to hide in the underbrush. He helps search the area and comments that the frozen chapel wasn’t very frozen.
Some members of the party escort the children from the dank underground complex where they were held in captivity while other members of the party keep searching below.
Time was taken to tidy up some of the Wight corpses before the Children emerge above ground.
(OOC: I notice a lot of people got close to the DC but couldn't overcome it with natural 20s; perhaps I set this DC a little high...alternatively you could have had one person roll their roll with their bonus and have other people roll vs DC 10 to aid another to see if you could have beaten the DC but the point is moot)
You notice before you leave the chamber entirely that the point where the old lady ghost toed the ground the ground itself looks disturbed as if something or someone is buried there...
Do you do anything else in the underground chamber or is it time to head home triumphantly with the missing children?

(Torryn hadn't searched. She'd looked. Her priority was getting the children out, not looking for other things; so wouldn't 'waste' time in delaying that. Never underestimate The Argentium's capacity to roll low - consistently.)
Moving wight bodies really wasn't her forte, but she did what she could. Mostly this involved covering up the gruesome bits. Her haste was not inspired by any need for adulation or glory, but out of a desire to return the children to their worried families as soon as possible. they'd been missing a long time.

In his search of this strange place, he looks over at the place. Mortimer then decides to go back where he witnessed the mother's spirit had stood. He assumes that everyone else didn't see her, because most people usually can't. He's always envied that because spirits can be so annoying at times.
"Oye, the ground is disturbed where the mother spirit once stood! Did you see her?"
Mortimer begins to brush away the dust or debris that was obscuring it. "Look!" If it looks safe, he continues to uncover what's buried there. Otherwise he will allow Manolo to check it first.

Her haste was out of a desire to return them to their families as soon as possible. Drack helps tidy up for the children’s departure then heads back down to continue the search. Mortimer decides to go back and look over the place where the mother was standing. After asking the others if they saw the ghost of the mother he starts brushing away the dust and debris and before long he’s fully digging up clumps of dirt with his hands. Loryn looks curiously at Mortimer and decides to have a bit of fun at his expense.
Mortimer just pauses in his digging tilting his head at Loryn then his mind reboots and he returns to the task at hand.
Manolo tells Morty he looked everywhere but didn’t see the depression in the dirt and then decides to go up and get some fresh air.
Gnubert tells Manolo perhaps he should lead the children out while a few of them continue to investigate as he moves next to Mortimer.
So with some of the party on the surface with the children and some of the party below ground with Mortimer playing in the dirt. Mortimer manages to eventually find and bring up 3 small but heavy metal boxes.

Torryn dusted her hands off and looked around. It always paid to appreciate the beauty of Nature, if her e that meant only looking up at the sky. What did the weather hold for their journey back? Assessing such things was not really the speciality of Sacred dancers, so she contented herself with looking at the clouds for a moment. Her attention quickly turned at the arrival of the children.
"And here you are, back out in the light. Soon enough we'll get you home and you'll be able to tell everyone how brave you all were. Oh yes, being brave doesn't mean not being scared - that's when you have to be your bravest. Now there some things more important than being brave - like looking after others. Poor Spot has been up here alone for a while now. She'd really appreciate some company. Well, lots of company actually. She's a very sociable horse. Who'd like to come with me and help make Spot feel better?" Torryn's intent was to distract the children from their recent nightmare. Spot was fine, but it would do the childen good to feel that they were doing something helpful and important. Then again, perhaps she shouldn't have sounded quite so upbeat and merry. It was simply in her nature.

Mortimer agrees with Drack, "Yeah, three boxes, three hags; who knows what's in these things. 'Opefully not an assorted tooth and fingernail collection, bloody eyes of newt or some other rubbish."
He sets the three boxes down on the ground, casts Detect Magic and gives them a good looking over to detect any auras (Spellcraft: 19). If they're locked, he waits for Manolo to unlock them. Otherwise, he throws caution aside to satisfy his curiosity. Mortimer opens the boxes one by one.

Loryn congratulates Mortimer on the find and agrees with everyone on the move of messing with the boxes away from the children and town.
"Children are topside and we should be moving them home sooner over later. Torrynashkabbeth and Manolo are the only two up there right? I'll head up and send him down. Torrnashkebbeth and I are going to bring the children a bit further and set up camp. They could probably use a good fire, good food and a nights rest. You all catch up when you're done."
With that, the gnome moves topside to gather the children and find a good camping spot a few hundred yards away and towards home.
He and T work on the camp and the gnome sets to getting some good food started. nothing washed away fears like the smell of delicious food. [i]Cooking 15[i] looked at wrong skill first. Bonus is 10 not 13

Everyone give yourself a hero point for either valor in combat and/or rescuing the children.
Manolo takes the kids out alert for last second dangers. Ash watches Mort pull up boxes and hopes nothing weird happens. Torryn takes a second to observe the weather and talks about the nature of courage in an attempt to distract the kids. Drack thinks they should open the boxes well away from all the children. Mortimer thinks three boxes, three hags. He checks for magic and opens them if they’re unlocked. Loryn congratulates Mortimer on the find and is of the opinion that they make a camp for the night. Gnubert stands by as Mortimer opens the boxes
Mortimer opens the boxes and finds Each is filled with bronze chess pieces, golden coins, silver rings, platinum bars, and bags of gemstones of Opal, Amethyst, Onyx, Jasper, Jade, Topaz, Malachite, and Larimar. With the other treasure found 2928gp worth, this is enough for each PC to gain 7,000gp
The party now having rescued the children and searched the underground finding all that was there head to the surface where a little whiles away from the altar topside they are building a campfire for the kids.
Once the campfire is build the kids clamor for a campfire song. What do you do?

"Well, if there's going to be singing we really should have some dancing." Torryn answered. She needed little, if any excuse to dance. "And I think singing will work best if everyone joins in." It didn't. She knew that, but wanted all the children to feel involved and to be distracted. If anything turned up, due to the noise, she and her fellow Argentium would handle it - politely discouraging any unwanted attention. A kick to the face discouraged most rather effectively.
"So, what shall we sing?" She turned a mischievous smile upon Drack, encouraging the typically taciturn and stoic paladin to take the lead. She rather suspected that he had a good voice for singing. As for herself, it was more of a soft, whispery croak. She let her body do her singing, in the dance.

Drack will haul up the boxes with the others, and give them to Loryn to put in his extra dimensional space for safe keeping, and for weight reduction on the trip home.
Drack will settle in around campfire with the others once camp is set. Drack will assist Loryn with the food as requested.
"We should still set up a watch. probably not too much in the area because of the hags, but better to be safe. I will take the usual last watch. Is anyone still injured after Gnubert's healing? i have quite a few lay hands that i can use."
Once the watch is set, Drack prepares to get comfortable and rest. After a resoundingly victorious battle he takes some time to pray to Domi.
The Paladin frowns as Torry suggests he entertain them with a song. He had never really sang before, but remembered some of the old Elven songs his mother sang as they worked in the fields. He assumed they had been taught to her by his father, but he had never actually asked. He decided it would, at the least, scare away any critters should they be in the area, so decided to give it a try. (perform 8) After making the attempt, the Paladin decided he was right, and not much of a singer.

Torryn smiled encouragingly as Drack attempted a song. If he could try, so could she! being half-elven herself, she did know some of what Drack sang, but the children didn't. So she opted for "See the little goblin" It was silly and she she hammed up the acting completely. It was though, a very humorous performance.

Mortimer's eyes go wide once he open the boxes. At first he doesn't believe what he sees, but his disbelief quickly fades when he takes a handful of gems. "Oye!! I'm rich, err I mean, WE'RE rich, yeah!
After emotions calm down, and he catches his breath, he allows himself to relax. Song, dance and the smell of Loryn's cooking is a very pleasant change. He would normally offer up a song or two, but he's certain the lyrics would be inappropriate for children.
