JonS Co-DM - "Woldsblood Cavern" Friday February 9th, 2024 9:40:58 PM
OOC: Ok, I fixed the goofy cone of cold thing, took me a minute to figure that out. Modifying stuff on these GoogleDoc Maps isn't as easy as normal Excel lol. I mispoke about there being two critters on Panzer, there is only one ... I've added it, and moved the Old Man, he only moved about 10' just to make sure he caught as many of you as he could in his spell. And for some "blonde or old or both" reason, i was calculating the squares as 10' not 5' ... I'll adjust stuff on tonight's post

Any letter in Red, is dead, for some, that's dead again, for others, not
So amongst the fury of spells going off, being rushed by ugly creatures, and having an Old Man laugh and try to kill everyone, anyone with the big circle, please read this Highlight to display spoiler: { Anyone within 30' of the pool must make a DC 15 Will save each round or be dazed for that round. }, and please read this as well Highlight to display spoiler: { Anyone within 30' of the Old Man must make a DC 21 or be frightened for 18 rounds - if it counts as something, this is a mind-affecting fear effect. }
Panzer, while preparing to attack an old defenseless human in the back, gets caught in some weird and wild stuff: Firstly, he gets a dazed expression on his face once he’s above the pool and behind the old man. Then this big, Woldsblood covered thing rises up behind him and slams him with two out of 6 tentacles. Highlight to display spoiler: { You’re dazed this round, but being splashed by the Woldsblood comes with its own cost, you lose 3 points of Wisdom and Constitution. A small voice in the back of your head whispers Come, slip free of the bonds of life, come float with ussssssssssss}
Tsak gets hit by the green beam, and drops to the floor as a result, not moving Highlight to display spoiler: { As you hit the floor, Falco hits you with Breath of Life for 37 health }
Kiwina gets hit by the indigo beam of light, yells, turns tail, and run’s for his life
Falco prays for the Old Man to lose his sight … but nothing seems to happen Highlight to display spoiler: { You overcame his spell resistance, and he came close to being blinded }
Mak, unhappy with the shenanigans going on, fires off five arrows at the old guy … all of which miss the Old Guy, which makes him smile again
Elyas – fights cold, fire, and electricity, with fire and electricity of his own: Elyas creates an explosive bout of chained lightning, which the Old Man brushes off, but then gets caught by one of the three rays of fire Elyas created, and the Old Man gets his PO’d expression back
Beech/Ayotnom – cause I’m slow, take your actions for the round, then I’ll figure out what the Old Guy and his friends will do, at least the ones still moving
Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC22(22) (T15/F14) 37/123 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Crossbow1 1D8+1 Status: Hastened, Frightened 18, Poisoned Saturday February 10th, 2024 1:01:38 AM
A wave of warm comfort rolls over Tsak and he regains feeling in his extremities. His head is still buzzing, his stomach is flip-flopping all over the place and his mind contains only one thought - RUN!
He scrambles to all fours, spins on a dime and then takes off like he's been shot from an arrow back out the way he came in.
(OOC I couldn't take the old T off the map as its underneath another shape - Tsak's current position is in the entry/exit corridor trying to catch Kiwina :))

Beech, licks his finger tips, pulls an arrow from the quiver and casts his spell..... He begins casting, and adds in empowering it as well.... He lets the frost develop at the arrow point and looses it towards the old man.... (adding +8 to hit) The Arrow when it hits, releases the spell with the effect going towards the east, 60' cone, because it was a Empowered Cone of Cold. The Cold pulses out and hits an awful lot of villagers too...... "Panzer, be right with you, what number ticket are you holding?"

Images of the old man and what he might do to Mak rose up in the warriors mind and those images overwhelmed his senses. Not only was he frightened out of his mind, he was dazed as well. He'd have run away, teleported, or something else, but his mind couldn't grasp those concepts enough to act on it.

Elyas is surprised when the lightning doesn't seem to do anything to the man. is he able to tell if it was because the guy dodged the blast or if he was immune? [ooc as a player i see on the GM post that there was a natural one on 'old man CL save' so I'm assuming immunity, but would Elyas be able to tell that?] The aura of the pool tickles at Elyas' mind but he resists it (Will = 24)
Elyas retreats back into the hallway a bit, then fires off one more quickened scorching ray. He then starts casting a spell. against the old man 26 vs touch, SR 32, 7 damage 28 vs touch SR 31, 15 damage 27 vs touch SR 25, 14 damage
[ooc: one more request, can we get the map link posted at the end of GM posts again? it's a lot easier to get to the map if it is on most or all of the posts. thank you!]

So just a reminder, any letters in red means that target is dead, for the moment, at least, this includes the villagers that the party was supposed to be saving.
And I’m adding this in here to make things a little easier on saving throw rolls: 30’ Within the Woldsblood – DC 15 WILL save or be dazed for a round Touching or getting splashed by the Woldsblood – DC 20 WILL save – this save has 2 effects we’ll discuss if anyone fails their throws … these two are save each time/round you’re within 30’ or get the ‘Blood on you
Old Guy – Anyone within a 60’ radius of him must make a DC 21 WILL Save of be affected by the Old Guy’s miasma If you make your save against this save, then you’re immune to his presence for 24hours
The healing provided to Tsak brings him back awake. Realizing he can move, the ranger turns and runs after Kiwina
Kiwina stops his run, angry and pissed off, but not finding anyone or thing to take his rage out on, he waits for one to appear
Beech draws an arrow, empowers it with a spell, and lets it fly, it slams into the Old Man. The explosion of cold and ice that washes over him and spreads to his minions seems to have no effect on the Old Man
Ayotnom [currently immune to the Old Guy’s bad mojo] – using some AWESOME displays of acrobatics, Ayotnom is able to avoid the acid damage he would have taken. In retaliation, he throws his rapier at the Old Guy who grins as the blade whizzes by him (Ayotnom is now flying)
Panzer, not liking the Blood covered Roper lashes out at it with his weapons, hitting twice, which seems to upset the Roper as it growls at the Badgerkin
Mak, appears frozen in place, unable to make a plan to move, run, attack, or curl into a ball and cry
Elyas, surprised that the lightning didn’t faze the Old Man wracks his brain for a reason why – Know: Religion DC28 Highlight to display spoiler: { If you make it, then you recognize this Old Man is a Lich, and is invulnerable to specific “elements” such as electrical and cold damage, as many other Undead are }
Falco, calling out to the Warper-Sar, requests that the Old Man’s sight is taken away, and then calls down holy fire upon the Old Man
The Old Guy who yells in some infernal language – claps his hands and pushes outwards … a cone of exhaustion strikes – Ayotnom, Falco?, Elyas?, and the Archer avatar Highlight to display spoiler: {there is no saving throw for this, but there is Spell Resistance, and he rolled to overcome SR of 30 - An exhausted character moves at half speed, cannot run or charge, and takes a –6 penalty to Strength and Dexterity.}
Unhappy Roper vs Raging Badgerkin – In this corner, we have Panzer the Brawler – tearing through his enemies like a hot knife through butter. In the other corner we have Robbie the Roper, who enjoys long walks on the beach, and eating his enemies …
While it tries to smack Panzer with its tentacles, it lunges at him, trying to bite him – the bite misses the wily warrior, but the Roper is able to smack Panzer with one of its 6 tentacles Highlight to display spoiler: { DC 25 poison save, or lose 1 point of STR} Because of the ‘Blood Highlight to display spoiler: { Make a DC 20 Will save, or be dazed for a round and lose another point of Wis and Con }
Falco gets bum rushed by 4 Wights, whom all seem intent on eating the tasty looking owlfolk – getting hit twice [17 damage] Highlight to display spoiler: { Make 2 DC 18 FORT saves please – if you fail, you lose a level per each failed save }
The three people who were puking their guts up, stumble out of the cloud, and collapse on the floor, trying to catch their breath. The other 4 figures on that side of the room, all move lower and closer to the portal and stream.

OOC Stat damage is a -1 to hit, damage and saves per 2 points of damage . Since Str doesn't govern save the elemental is -3 to hit and -3 to damage. If you lose con you also lose 1 hp per level for each 2 points of con damage. IC Already made the lich fear save DC 15 will save for being close to woldsblood 16 made, Panzer can act this round
Panzer gets bit, hard. Between the Chain Lightning, The Fireball and all of the damage to his Constitution he is a little wobbly. If the Roper dies now, he MIGHT be able to live through this. He has to because Ayotnom is now grappling the Lich and Falco and Elyas are getting mobbed by townspeople that look sort of undead and are clawing and biting them, They are going to need some help and alot of people seem to have been frightened by the fear aura. So yeah, this is not good.
Panzer redoubles his efforts to wipe out the Roper so he can deal with the Lich. Ayotnom heroically resists against whatever effect the lich had that required a save (used another hero point)
He then tries to pin the lich, heroically straining the hopefully pin the lich. 26 vs Flat CMD of the lich (rolled 13 then used hero point to reroll and got a 26)

A pinned character also takes an additional –4 penalty to his Armor Class. A pinned creature is limited in the actions that it can take. A pinned creature can always attempt to free itself, usually through a combat maneuver check or Escape Artist check. A pinned creature can take verbal and mental actions, but cannot cast any spells that require a somatic or material component. A pinned character who attempts to cast a spell or use a spell-like ability must make a concentration check (DC 10 + grappler's CMB + spell level) or lose the spell. Elyas reorients himself and readies one of his big spells. this is getting rough and something needs ot be done right now!
He takes a deep breath and aims a lodestone from his component pouch, sprinkling a bit of dust on it and blowing. a thin green ray shoots out at the pinned lich Disintigrate vs touch AC: 30! Natural 20! Confirm the critical vs touch AC: 21 Spell Resistance.... 34! Elyas almost yells in joy as the beam hits the lich (that was the best rolling I've had in a while!) The Lich needs a DC 25 Fort save. on fail he will take full damage, on save he takes a smaller amount. because pinned removes Dex and has a -4 penalty to AC and it's a touch attack the crit should be confirmed, but just in case it has something that prevents crits I'll roll all 4 possibilities separately. Fort failed: 88 damage Additional damage if critical and fort failed: 112, total of 200 damage. Fort saved: 20 damage Fort saved and critical: 21, total of 41.
The big elemental keeps hitting the Lich if he's not a disintigrated pile of ash. otherwise he will smack the roper thing. Back to power attacks with the large penalties to AC this guy has 2 slams 17 to hit, 21 damage 17 to hit, 19 damage

As Mak lay prone on the grass, staring up at the canopy of trees above, his breaths came in ragged gasps. The fall had taken a significant toll on his already battered body, inflaming his injured leg and bringing back the constant ache he had so far been free of, sapping what little strength remained within him. His calloused hands clenched the grass beneath him as he struggled to push himself up, his muscles protesting with every movement.
With a grunt of effort, Mak managed to roll onto his side, his unkempt hair falling across his sweat-drenched forehead. He reached for his bow, which lay nearby, its wood worn smooth from years of use. Using it as leverage, he slowly began to pull himself into a sitting position, his breath hitching in pain as he shifted his weight onto his wounded leg.
Once upright, Mak leaned heavily on his bow, his broad shoulders slumped with exhaustion. His clothing, already rumpled and disheveled, now clung to him damply, a testament to the exertion of the fall. Despite the discomfort etched into every line of his face, his eyes, weary though they were, still held a glimmer of determination.
Surveying his surroundings with a mixture of resignation and determination, Mak's gaze swept over the verdant expanse of the forest, taking in the dappling sunlight filtering through the leaves above. His senses, dulled by pain and the curse that weighed heavily upon him, strained to discern any signs of danger lurking amidst the tranquil beauty of the woodland. (Perception +19, Roll 20 - Another 1 from our terrible dice roller, that's 10 d20 rolls and 4 1's)
With a grimace, Mak pushed himself to his feet, his movements slow and labored. Each step sent a jolt of agony coursing through his weakened frame, but he gritted his teeth against the pain, refusing to succumb to weakness. Despite the odds stacked against him, the veteran's resolve remained unshakable, a testament to the indomitable spirit that had carried him through countless battles before.
As he stood amidst the towering trees, a lone figure battered and weary yet unbroken, Mak's grip tightened on his bow, his fingers tracing the worn grooves etched into its surface. Though the road ahead was fraught with peril and uncertainty, he knew that he would face it with the same stoic determination that had seen him through so many trials before. For Mak, he had a 3 mile trek through this wooded area before returning to the village, unless he was wrong in his estimation, then of course he'd find himself lost.

What does a Lich jar look like anyway? Is it a jam jar with LICH written on? He looks at Panzer. Panzer looks wild man! Kiwina sees Panzer and Tsak fighting a villager/wight -- one that he will also have to pass before he can return to the main room. As for the main room, it sounds as if things are rather chaotic out there.
Kiwina moves past the wight while attacking it using a spring attack. Still armed with a trident and light mace, he uses the trident for the attack. He strikes AC 32 for 14 damage with a magic weapon. Because this is a spring attack, the wight does not get an AoO.
Kiwina ends 50' from where he started, looking into the main cavern. Despite the activity going on there, what comes to mind is, "Mak in the lake? What -- did someone tell him it was a lake of beer?"

As Mak continued his journey through the dense woods, every step was a battle against the pain that radiated from his burns and his injured leg. The curse that plagued him seemed to weigh heavier with each passing moment, dragging at his movements and sapping what little strength remained within him.
His progress was slow and measured, each footfall accompanied by a grimace of discomfort. The stiff, jerky movements of his body spoke volumes of the agony he endured, his muscles protesting with every attempt to push forward. Yet, despite the searing pain that flared with every movement, Mak pressed on, his determination unwavering.
The canopy of trees above offered little respite from the relentless sun, its rays beating down upon him with unrelenting intensity. Sweat beaded upon his brow, mingling with the grime and dirt that clung to his skin, a testament to the hardships of his journey.
Despite the challenges he faced, Mak remained vigilant, his senses attuned to any signs of danger that lurked amidst the shadows of the forest. His grip tightened on his cane, the worn wood offering him a semblance of stability as he navigated the uneven terrain.
With each passing moment, the verdant expanse of the forest seemed to stretch on endlessly, a maze of twisting paths and tangled undergrowth that threatened to ensnare him at every turn. Yet, despite the obstacles that lay in his path, Mak pressed onward, his gaze fixed firmly on the horizon.

Mak regarded the wagon and its occupants with a mixture of caution and weariness. The offer of a ride was tempting, especially considering the state of his injured leg and the toll that his journey through the woods had taken on his weary frame. Yet, he couldn't shake the nagging sense of unease that lingered at the back of his mind.
"Deal," he replied, his voice tinged with a note of caution. "But I must warn you, there have been... strange happenings in the village as of late. I was part of a group that uncovered a dark presence, a Lich, behind it all. I believe the threat has been dealt with, but I cannot say for certain. When I was forced to leave the battle, it wasn't looking good for my friends."
Mak accepted the offer, his movements stiff and labored as he made his way towards the wagon. As he approached, he couldn't help but notice the colorful array of goods that adorned the sides of the wagon, a stark contrast to the somber hues of the forest that surrounded them.
Settling himself onto the wagon's bench, Mak cast a wary glance at the two men who accompanied him. The driver's friendly demeanor did little to ease his concerns, especially when he noticed the loaded crossbow in the other man's hands.
As the wagon rumbled forward, Mak settled back against the bench, his eyes scanning the horizon with a wary vigilance as he put his cane away and once more pulled out his longbow. With careful and practiced ease he withdrew enough arrows from his pack to replenish his quiver. Though he was hopeful that the threat had indeed been vanquished, the shadow of doubt still lingered in his mind, etched into the lines of his battle-weary face. Only time would tell if their journey would lead them to safety or into the jaws of a new danger he'd be alone in handling. Whatever was in store for him it would take him at least a day before his cape would get him past the water hazard in the caverns.

Ok ...
Mak. The driver and his partner seem to understand your reluctance to ride with them. "We've run into several groups of bandits. That's why the loaded crossbow. We got another one right within the wagon." When Mak mentions what's been going on in the region, the driver stops the wagon, "A Lich. Did you say a Lich. Crap. Maybe this is a bad time to trade..." He scratches his beard and looks at his friend, who shrugs his shoudlers. The driver turns to Mak, "Look lad. If'n you and your lads have finished that Lich up, then lets get to town. My partner knows a bit about healing, and we've got medicines in the back. Speaking of," he reaches into a bag under his feet, and Mak can hear glass tinkling. The man pulls out two bottles, both of smoky glass, and wax sealed. "This one's healing, this ones dwarven liquor, tastes like, well of all things, roses and honey. I don't know who made it, but it's great at warming a soul up on a cold night..." Highlight to display spoiler: { If you drink the potion, it heals 3D8+5 health ... I'll let you roll }
Panzer and Falco sit together and let the stress of the battle begin to lessen. Panzer shares about the voices he heard, and that at one point it "sounded like a good idea to join them"
Kiwina offers the villagers fresh water, which they greatly appreciate, while Tsak tries to get an understanding of what has happened. One of the villagers is bold enough to speak to the adventurers, "That liar. He told us he was making us better. Made everything worse. There's barely anyone left in the village, and you see what's left of us here. We. No, I, wished that 'healer' had never come to our part of the world. We're gonna go gather up our friends. That red stuff, I heard that badger man talking. It can take their spirits to the afterlife can't it? Those of us who are left would like to go home. It will be a struggle deciding to stay or leave, but you've given us hope that we have a future."
Beech, Ayotnom, and the Earth Elemental all look at the items ... at the moment, the Earth Elemental seems to be holding onto the dagger, almost reluctant to hand it over ... 1) The Headband - radiates fairly strong transmutation enchantments
2) The Hat - radiates faint Illusion enchantment
3) The metal rod - this is a 3' long, brass rod, carved with magical runes and sigils - it bears a strong enchament, but not anything attached to any one school/flavor of magic
4) The rings - A) This ring is comprised of many "strings" of silver which are wrapped around a natural piece of Black tourmaline - faint abjuration enchantment
B) This heavy platinum and gold ring is surmounted by a marquise cut amethyst of deep purple hue - faint abjuration enchantment
5) An amulet - This silver amulet is covered in knots and markings (Celtic stylizied) and radiates a moderate abjuration enchantment
6) A cloak closure broach - this broach is crafted of the finest and softest black wyvern hide with a long, sharp claw that holds the cloak together - radiates faint transmutaion enchantment
f) A heavy bag - crafted again from the finest and softest black wyvern hide, is about 2 feet wide by 4 feet long in size - radiates moderate conjuration enchantment ... this is easily identified as a Bag of Holding, as it looks that same size and has the same aura as does the bag that Elyas was digging through
Beech & Ayotnom Highlight to display spoiler: { I'm gonna assume y'all open the bag ... inside is a large tome, probably the Lich's spellbook ... it radiates a cold energy, and isn't pleasant to touch; in a soft purple velvet bag is a crushed pearl worth 500 gp; in a second velvet bag you find onyx gems worth 500 gp in total; in a small wooden box that is wrapped in ribbon (an easy way to seal it without a lock) there are two more velvet bags - one contains powdered diamond, the other powdered opal - combined worth 5,000 gp}
Elyas begins digging through the bag of holding to fins something of Mak's, which he does, a piece of soft leather that Mak uses to cover his bowstring when it rains. Eltas sits down and holds the orb in his lap. Looking into the orb, Elyas feels a moment of weightlessness as his vision goes striaght up, which is a bit disconcerting. Mak listened intently to the driver's explanation, a sense of relief washing over him as he realized the true nature of their armed vigilance. He nodded in understanding as the driver mentioned encountering bandits, a grim reminder of the dangers that lurked beyond the safety of the village.
When the mention of the Lich caused the driver to hesitate, Mak couldn't help but sympathize with the man's apprehension. He offered a reassuring smile, though it was tinged with a weariness born of his recent ordeal.
"We've done what we can to put an end to the threat," Mak reassured him, his voice firm despite the lingering doubt that gnawed at his mind. "But your caution is understandable. If you're willing to take me to the village, I'd be grateful for the assistance."
As the driver reached into the bag and produced the bottles, Mak's eyes lit up with gratitude. He nodded appreciatively as the healing potion and dwarven liquor were offered to him, his gaze lingering on the smoky glass bottles with a mixture of curiosity and anticipation.
"Thank you," Mak said sincerely, his voice heavy with gratitude. "I insist on paying for the healing potion. It's the least I can do for your kindness."
With a weary hand, Mak reached into his pack, producing a small sack of coins and offering it to the driver. Inside the sack were 500 gold coins.
As they traveled along, Mak's appearance began to change, the healing potion working its magic to mend some of his wounds and fade the bruises and burns that marred his skin. Though still weary and battle-worn, there was a newfound vitality in his step, a testament to the healing power of kindness and camaraderie in the face of adversity.
As the wagon continued its journey towards the village, Mak couldn't help but feel a sense of hope rising within him. Though not all of his wounds would heal with the potion alone, the prospect of rejoining with his friends lightened his mood.
When the healers house came into view, Mak dismounted and with one hand wrapped around the bottle of dwarven ale he entered and attempted to retrace his steps as far as the underground lake. Once there he stayed back from it's edge, not wanting to rowse the undead that lurked in the water.

Tsak volunteers to escort the villagers back to the surface with Kiwina, asking a good question as to ”What are the Shadowlands, how do we get there, and do the villagers have anything that might help us.”
Ayotnom ties a piece of food on a rope and throws it into the portal. It hangs there for a moment and then the rope is ripped out of Ayotnom’s hands, almost dragging him into the Woldsblood .. something scaly flicks its arm through the portal from the other side … the arm is about as thick as Panzer is tall. It flicks what's left of the rope and then the arm retreats into the portal. Highlight to display spoiler: { Assuming 50’ of rope, it’s now 25’ with one end bit off}. Finding a way to steel our minds against said enemies will be important.” Falco then apologizes for not being more helpful through the battle. He peruses the rings and the amulet while mentioning to his comrades-in-arms, ”Seems like I need to hit the Catacombs, I need some reagents for my powers to work.” Highlight to display spoiler: { I had to look up what Spellcraft helps with lol. The size and style of the stone represents a fairly good level of protection. The amulet, again seems tied to protection. However, this one seems to hide the wearer from those looking for them through magical means.}
Elyas shakes his head for a moment and then shares his discovery, ”Mak is in a wagon, headed towards the village.” That’s when he realizes his Elemental is still holding the dagger … When Elyas instructs the elemental to do something in Terran, the elemental shakes its head no.
Mak enjoys his ride. When offered the two bottles, he insists on paying for them, the old man grudgingly agrees and then almost falls off the wagon at the amount Mak has given him. The old man looks Mak up and down, ”There need to be more people like you in world young man. You’ve saved us, we’ve kind of saved you. Mak stood at a safe distance from the subterranean lake, the dim light casting eerie shadows across the cavern walls. The sound of trickling water echoed softly in the underground chamber, a soothing backdrop to the chaos that had unfolded above ground.
With a weary sigh, Mak brought the bottle of dwarven liquor to his lips, taking a long sip of the potent liquid. The taste of roses and honey flooded his senses, warming him from the inside out and easing the ache that still lingered in his bones.
As he drank, the events of the past few days washed over him in a dizzying blur. The encounter with the Lich, the battle against its undead minions, the desperate flight through the forest - it all seemed like a distant memory now, softened by the haze of alcohol and exhaustion.
Despite his injuries and the lingering sense of unease that gnawed at his mind and body, Mak couldn't help but feel a sense of peace wash over him in the quiet solitude of the underground chamber. Here, beneath the earth's surface, far removed from the troubles of the world above, he could finally allow himself a moment of respite. Exhausted and unable to stand any longer, Mak slid to the ground and sat with his back to the tunnel wall.
As he took another sip of the dwarven liquor, Mak knew that he would likely be drunk by the time his friends arrived. But in this moment, surrounded by the cool embrace of the underground cavern and the gentle lapping of the subterranean lake, he felt a sense of contentment wash over him, a fleeting glimpse of tranquility amidst the chaos of his journey.

Panzer, Ayotnom and Tsak hover near Elyas as he examines the bone dagger. Beech moves close enough to examine the thing in an attempt to also identify it.
Elyas drops the thing and recoils from the dagger as he tells his friends, ""Don't worry, it doesn't seem to be affecting my mind. It is definitely tied to that Lich though. It's a Bone Dagger. probably carved from the Lich's own bones before he regenerated them. It is a strong dagger that can drain life like a wight, but harms the wielder if they are not undead or a construct."
Beech's use of Spellcraft tells him the same, that this is an evil thing. It is a +4 dagger, but the wielder suffers energy drain unless they are undead or a construct. Though it is made of bone, it is strong as steel and It radiates a sickly, green light.
Some worry that perhaps the dagger could be the lich's phylactery, but Beech and Elyas don't think it is.
Falco notes the need for some rest, and to replenish his supplies.
Tsak and Kiwina note the need to get the surviving villagers out of this place.
Indeed, the Petals notice that the surviving villagers are milling about. They seem to be affected as those in Willsden were affected. They seem to have a dull, distant look in their eyes, though it is clear they want to get out. You hear them mumbling things like,
"I'm glad it's gone." "Yes. The healer was not who he said he was." "He was a skeleton sometimes. And he went through the green." "Yes. He disappeared into the green." "He fed us Woldsblood from this pool. He was destroying the village. We should warn them."
These are all worrisome things to hear, but it's even more disturbing to hear them from voices drained of emotion or vitality.
This is a large chamber, dominated by a large pool of Woldsblood that connects to a glowing green area on the far wall. It's eerily silent apart from the shuffling of feet and the voices of those here. There is much death here. Some are undead, but some are unfortunate villagers unintentionally caught in the melee.
You all feel a strong desire to be out of this place.

The Petals shepherd the surviving villagers back. Falco examines some, but he's not sure what specific ailment they may have. It's not like anything he's seen before. They seem dull, unemotional and disengaged. When addressed by the Petals, they reply to each other, answering the Petals questions but never acknowledging the Petals are the ones asking.
Ayotnom is worried about leaving this place unattended, and is anxious to check the portal. Panzer agrees, but says rest and resupplying is in order first.
The villagers are reluctant to enter the oily water, but will go at the urging of their rescuers. Still, they never actually address the Petals directly.
When the Petals reach the underground lake, Kiwina looks the place over. The lake is about 100’ across and about as wide, and the ceiling climbs above reaching a height of maybe 40’ above the water’s surface. The lake is about 20’ deep, but the water here is murky.
There is no way to walk around the lake. At the edge where you are you see the boat you used before. It would carry six medium sized creatures (large creatures count as two). You can see a bit of water has seeped into the boat, but not much. There are two oars in the boat. You all see a light across the way, and are relieved that Mak responds to your calls.
The Petals all make sure they avoid the murky water and the ghouls they assume are still there beneath the surface.
Beech can fly and begins flying villagers across. He then casts fly on Mak. Tsak activates his armor. Between the three, they are able to get everyone across, though they struggle with the two larger party members.
Soon, they all emerge from the cellar of the healer's house. It's scorched here and there from previous melee with the furniture - just like they left it. The villagers seem particularly apprehensive in the healer's house and are relieved once they are outside of it.
As you make the short walk back to Willsden, you see a large dog that seems to be watching all this - perhaps it's just hungry. You see the villagers there, largely how you left them. You're a bit relieved to see they didn't burn the place down while you were gone. Those you rescued soon join them the others. You overhear dull conversations.
They flatly greet each other and relate how the healer was not who he said he was, that he was a skeleton, and that he's dead now. They mention those that died, though there is no real sadness about this. They show no emotion as they mention their harrowing experiences below. As the Petals try to check on some and even ask some questions, the villagers will respond to each other as they answer the Petals indirectly. You can glean the following information from them.
- Achtoor appeared to the villagers as a kindly healer that arrived in Willsden maybe a year ago. Only those below occasionally saw him as some sort of skeleton. - He was experimenting with Woldsblood on the villagers. - He sought immortality as a mortal instead of just undead. - He referred to the red pool as "Woldsblood" and it seemed to come out of that green spot on the wall. Occasionally Achtoor went into that green spot and disappeared. - Achtoor avoided conflict with the local druids. He's worried they may interfere with his work. - He talked to someone named Gudianen. Might be old Gad in the woods. - The villagers do not like the druids, and try to avoid them. They say the druids try to control the villagers and fight them over limits on hunting and logging.

Tsak patrols restlessly around the village. He was half expecting the torpor that allays the villagers to have begun to recede by now, but sees no sign of that. As he pokes his nose here and there he hears snatches of conversation and remembers the druids, he'd forgotten about them. When he feels like everything is back to 'normal' (whatever that is for this village) he gathers with the petals in the bar and buys everyone a round. He drinks slowly, using the first half of the drink to catch up with Mak, who's limping again. After that he tries to get all the Petals' heads together to work out their next steps. There's the continuing condition of the villagers, the portal and the Lich. Also they don't know much about the druids and whether they may be friend of foe. Seems like with everything going on it would be wise to get assistance from them if possible.

Panzer saw the large dog on the way back to town and took note of how it watched them. As he thought about it he remembered that one reason they needed the guide had been a problem with druids and the town. Druids could shapeshift into animals, was the dog a druid? Panzer thought it likely It was just watching them so he tucked that into the back of his mind and kept helping the townsfolk to town. Later, when Beech prepared some food, Panzer took 2 portions, in separate bowls and walked out to where the dog was watching them. He offered the dog/druid a bowl and sat down. " I see you watching us with the villagers. They were tangled up with a pretty bad uy, a lich in fact. We killed it for now but have to go after it to finish it off. Can you share any information that might help us with that? " He realizes that it could be just a dog, but the Badgerkin doesn't think so. He speaks like he would to a person, not like he would to a dog. He is still armored, but does not draw any of his weapons. he is hopinf to just talk.

They could see that Mak had bits of grass and soil clinging to his clothes and armor as the group came into sight. His expression was much like the villagers but the smile that lit his face on seeing his friends alive told the tale. He was just tired.
It took them longer, but Mak simply could not lift another human being due to the effects of the liches curse that still lay upon him. He was also moving more slowly, the exhaustion curse as well as his injuries were the reason and by the time they reached the village he was huffing hard and just wanting to sit someplace.
Tsak's offer seemed reasonable and he loaded up on an ale from one of the listless villagers as he made plans on how to best get into a bed. As he lifted the tankard his arm shook from the effort. "You'll have to tell me what happened after I left." Mak said to Tsak as he leaned over the table and his ale.

Tsak patrols around the village. He's disappointed that the villagers here still seem affected by the effects of Woldsblood. He gathers the Petals together in the local tavern to discuss things. The tavern service is a bit slow. And distant. And dull. The food is passable but uninspired. The beer's still pretty good though.
Falco ponders what is wrong with the villagers. He recalls the villagers saying that Achtoor had been experimenting on them with Woldsblood, and had been for some time. Perhaps an effect induced over time will take some time to wear off.
Elyas suggests finding the local druids, hoping that perhaps they can help. This causes some of the nearby villagers to respond to Elyas by talking to each other. "He wants to bring the druids here." "They won't come. They hate us." "And we hate them. The Healer said the druids are our enemies." "The Healer told us the tea was good for us. He was experimenting on us. He was our enemy." "The druids don't want us here. I tried to tell you to respect the forest and the animals." It's rather odd to hear talk of hatred and enemies with such dispassionate voices.
Mak is exhausted. The fly spell Beech cast on him made the trip back better, as he didn't have to actually walk. But back in town, the spell wears off and he rests. After about an hour, he feels a bit better (no longer exhausted, just fatigued which sucks less.)
Ayotnom tells Mak what happened after he left, adding that he does not relish going through that mystery portal. Beech keeps a sharp eye out as he responds to Ayotnom. "Ayotnom, dealing with whatever that creature is, is easier that accessing the Shadow Plane in other ways. The Portal is already there, and donating a couple party favors so we can crossover is a whole lot easier than trying some of the other ways. We don't have a whole lot of time to spend, because I have no idea how long it will take for him to reform. But tomorrow, we can try to scry on him, as we have a part of him or a least a personal item of his to use as a focus."
At Mak's mention of needing a bed to sleep in, one villager says to another, "They need a bed, a place to rest. The old Mizzeny place would work. I think he died down below, and his place is pretty big." As he mentions the death of one of their own, you notice a few might almost seem sad. Further questions about where this Mizzeny place is, will cause the villagers to describe it to each other enough that the Petals can easily figure out where it is. Going there you find it is a fairly large house, seemingly the home of a single person, but one of some modest wealth for this place. It looks pretty comfortable.
Kiwina asks the villagers if they have any holy water, but concludes they do not. He casts Speak with Animals and tries talking to the dog. He makes some yips and barks and growls. The dog watches him, but does not respond. Which seems kinda weird.
After helping the villagers back, Panzer goes over to the dog. The dog backs up keeping it's distance. He even offers the dog some food, but the dog shows no interest, which is odd. Suspecting it might be a druid in disguise, he speaks to the dog, telling it what happened, about the lich, and asking the dog for information.
After a few moments, the dog moves further away from the Petals and transforms into a human. He carries a staff and a sickle, and he wears what looks like a wooden breastplate. "I am Jasent. My brothers and sisters care for the forest here, a place this village dispoils. We knew there was something wrong with the villagers so we imposed a quarantine to contain what seemed to be a growing problem once we were unable to determine what was causing it.
"You seem to have information about this problem. What do you want here? We do not wish ill on these people, can you tell me what is afflicting them? We have some limited healing powers. Mak wonders if the glowing orb the Petals saw is somehow related to the portal, and he asks his friends about this. He rests in the village. (Mak recovers from his exhaustion after an hour of rest, and is now fatigued. See info below.)
Falco checks Mak for any serious wounds, informing him that all he needs is a good night's sleep. He checks the rest of the party as well.
Beech asks around about this tea the Healer was giving the townsfolk. Their dull responses suggest any tea given them was consumed. No one seems to have any left.
Elyas, Panzer and Ayotnom provide a run down on what seems to have happened between this Healer and the town, as well as what the Petals encountered below the Healer's house. Panzer asks that perhaps the druids could help look over the villagers in their weakened state. He also asks Jasent to look for someone named Theron in the woods.
Kiwina mentions the fire, and asks how long this Healer has been here.
Jasent listens to all this, and is quiet for a bit before he responds.
"A lich eh? Wilsden has had a healer for years. His name was Prudan. But now that you mention it, his behavior changed a few months ago. It used to be that the villagers would visit him with almenets or complaints, and he usually had some herbal remedies. I began to notice that he spent more time in town, tending to folks. It was about that time that Prudan made a few visits to a nearby hermit named Gudianen. The villagers knew him as Gad. He's an unpleasant man, but I can take you to him if you wish.
"We generally kept our distance, but when we noticed that something had changed and the villagers were acting strangely, it was decided to quarantine the village. I suggested a different course, but was overruled.
"Clearly, that was the wrong course of action, and I regret that we did not intervene. It certainly never occurred to us that Prudan, or, you say he went by Achtoor? It never occurred to us that he might be undead. While not all of us may agree, I know some will join me in taking a more active role - at least for as long as it takes for them to recover. As you suggest, Panzer, this may be an opportunity to establish a better relationship with these folk, if they are willing."
(The party has a significant number of magic items and treasure. While there is no Catacombs access here in the village of Willsden, if asked, Jasent will tell you there is a Catacombs entrance in Cresthaven. It's maybe most of a day's walk back to Cresthaven, or a quick teleport.)

Tsak manages to find a blanket that no-one is using and folds it carefully over Mak's legs as he sits in the kitchen of the Mizzeny house the petals have borrowed for a short time. He'll make his friend a nice herbal tea with a generous dash of spirits in it then turn his attention to readying a bed for him. He assumes Mak will improve with some good rest, but he also thought the same thing about the villagers. Time will tell.
Tsak forages for some vegetables during which time he notices several of the petals talking with a dog, then later with a man with a staff. Going back to the kitchen he uses the veges along with some dry tack from his handy haversack to make a kind of stew. To be honest its not great, but it will fill bellies and, along with a good kip, will have the petals travelling much better tomorrow.

Kiwina thinks it sounds as if they have several courses of action to consider. They can go through the gate to the shadowlands to fight a lich, unless they manage to find and destroy him while he's still recovering. . . They can talk to Gudianen about the lich. That might make the most sense before going after the lich. . . They can prepare and recover a bit before making another move, although that may give the lich time to prepare as well. . . Or, "Before we rest for the day, I would like to go do something about that lake of ghouls. We can fly over it now, but when the day comes that we face the Achtoor, I don't want it to be what stops us from getting out after the battle."

Beech, tries to remember anything his mom said about the Shadow Plane, but all he can recall is it's a different place. So maybe the rules are different? He'll mention that to the rest, but he's not all too up on planar travel so not familiar with it. He has enough to remember what he knows know, let alone adding even more. While Tsak has his back turned and is doing something else, Beech adds some spices to the stew and then starts making bread with some of the sourdough he has in one of the metal pans. It used to be in a crock, but adventuring life can be a bit rough on clay and glass.
DM Mark - E-Gad! Sunday March 3rd, 2024 7:52:50 PM
The party wastes no time checking out the vacant house that was mentioned. It's a serviceable dwelling, and he has a couple of decent beds along with what appear to be some sleeping mats that can be laid out on the floor.
Tska sees to Mak's convalescence, tucking him in with a blanket, making some soothing tea, and finding him a comfortable bed. Then he set about making a nice stew.
Mak is glad for some rest. After an hour's rest, it -6 to STR and DEX is reduced to -2 (exhausted to fatigued), and he will find that after 8 hours of sleep, even that -2 to STR and DEX is gone and he feel like his old self (no longer fatigued.)
Kiwina ponders the party's options at this point. He worries that if the Petals don't take steps to end the ghouls in the lake that they may pose a threat to the Petals should they be forced to flee across that lake.
Ayotnom agrees with Kiwina that going to see this Gad makes sense. He wonders if Gad is also a seeker of immortality.
Elyas also intends to seek out Gad. He mentions the option of getting people to the Catacombs in Cresthaven if they need to reprovision. He looks through the Lich's spellbook (the DM will get you that list of spells soon.)
Beech tries to think about what he knows of the Shadow Plane. All he recalls is that it is a place where the dead go before they are judged by Gargul. But more importantly, he is worried about Tsak's stew. He uses his cooking skill to season it up, and then he sets to making bread.
There seems to be some interest in talking with this Gad person that Jasent and the villagers mentioned. Any of the party may go with him, or not as they desire. Even Mak could go, since he is only fatigued before he actually sleeps. (The DM is not suggesting that it is necessary everyone should go see Gad together.)
Jasent leads those who are interested into the woods to see Gad. The walk takes the better part of an hour. He points at a sod hut, where you see smoke curling out of a hole in the roof.
Jasent says, "It's probably best if I'm not here while you try to speak with Gudianen. He's in that place there. He tends to be a bit ... grouchy doesn't quite describe it. Some of the villagers seem to have had some luck dealing with him though. He seems to appreciate gold or things that are useful to him. Good luck.
"I will return to speak with the other druids. I, and perhaps others, can meet you in Wilsden in the morning. Making your way back is to the village from here should be easy." Jasent will give brief instructions on how to find your way back - follow this trail, look for the dead tree, turn right at the rock that looks like a bear, etc.
If you choose to approach Gad, just let me know what you do. And if no one went to speak with Gad, let me know that too. Simply resting in the village is fine as well. —------------------------------------------------ Regarding the Catacombs, the first order of business will be selling what you have.
We don't need to overcomplicate who teleports with Elyas there and when. For simplicity, I'll let each person just post their purchases in the Catacombs themselves rather than providing a list to others to purchase things for them.
Tsak thanks Elyas for his offer to transport people to visit the catacombs. He declines as there's really nothing he needs. Well not until he finds out more about where they're going and what might be waiting for them.
The stew tastes better than he thought it would, his cooking skills must be improving! He thanks Beech for making the bread, its a nice addition.
When the call to go see Gad occurs Tsak decides to join in. His preference is to hang back as usual, but he's happy to talk to the fella if required. Tsak wants to know what the bloke knows about the healer, what might be going on with the townsfolk (he'll be watching to see if Gad is similarly afflicted, be interesting if he's not.) and his attitude towards the druids? Tsak will be at pains to play a simple half-orc who means no harm, he doesn't want to tip his hand regarding how much they know about the lich.

Standing in the woods are Tsak, Ayotnom and Kiwina. The area seems rather peaceful and quiet. Jasent seems to withdraw rather quickly, but maybe druids just move fast through the woods when they're by themselves.
The sod hut sits in the land here like a squat, glowering fat man. The two shuttered windows look like closed eyes, so maybe more like a squat, sleeping fat man. You see a curl of smoke rising from the chimney and the smell of smoke pervades the woods here. So, really it's like a squat, fat man smoking a pipe, who's looks says he's best not disturbed. But that's just the hut.
Tsak makes his way to the sturdy door and knocks, and then steps back. After a wait, Tsak is about to knock again, when the door flies open. An old man stands before you, dressed in greasy leathers that have seen some use, gray hair tied back behind his head. One eye seems in a permanent squint, and the other regards the three of you balefully.
"A half-orc, a minotaur, and a centaur banging on my door. Sounds like the start of a bad joke. Yer an unlikely bunch to be out here, an' I don't know none of you. Why're you knocking on my door? If you got business with me, best tell me quick who you are and what the devil you want. And if not, bugger off!"
Tsak can see that the man, though old, seems to be in good health with a spryness that belies his appearance. He can sense that the man is genuinely annoyed, but is slightly expectant of … something. Tsak can tell that a quick answer is needed before the man retreats back inside. —-------------------------------------------------- Back in town, Mak looks forward to a good, long sleep to restore him to his usual self, but he can move about until he goes to sleep - he's just fatigued. Beech tends to some food.
The people here seem their dull, usual selves. You see several folk milling about, almost mechanical in their tending to daily chores as they speak in monotone voices, and their words lacking any inflection or emotion. Some folks shuffle in and out of the tavern.
A girl is playing with stuffed toys, all sitting in a perfect circle. A couple sit on a bench in the front of a cottage - muttering to each other but acknowledging little else. Even the animals in the village seem affected, moving with a mechanical precision that is unnatural. —----------------------------------------------------- Elyas, Falco and Panzer decide to teleport to Cresthaven. Cresthaven is a welcome change from the dullness of Willsden. It seems like a busy seaside town, and you are near a small dock. The Rose is anchored out from shore a bit in an area deep enough for the ship's draft.
As before, the town is lively with fishers, farmers, and others trading in a local market. The people seem to be friendly, although the two beastfolk get second glances. The town has an administrative building, 2 inns, 3 taverns, several shops and an array of households.
You see the inn and tavern you visited before. And you recall there was a quartermaster that seemed to be in charge of the docks here.

Ayotnom asks this hermit in the woods some questions, while Tsak and Kiwina watch. When the man balks, seeming to want something, Tsak considers intimidating him into coughing up the info they seek. While intimidation is a good skill, it does leave the subject hostile afterwards, and Tsak reconsiders not wanting to make an enemy out of the man. Soon, you all realize he wants some money or goods, and you find that 50 GP seems to make him more cooperative.
The man glares up at the minotaur for a moment before speaking. "You're tall."
"Adventurers, eh? I can see from yer gear that you aint' from round here. Well, you got gold and that's enough for me. The villagers used to come to me for minor ailments and such, but that dried up when that healer come. Yeah, he come to talk to me, asking about the Realms of Shadow. He also had questions about Woldsblood there. He seemed focused on an area known by some scholars as the Forest o' Regret. It's in the Estates of Unrest in the Realms of Shadow. Souls get stuck there for a long time, and some never move on. But that is true of many parts of the Estates of Unrest. I can tell you from experience - it's a bad place fer mortals like you."
You sense he knows more. If offered another 50 gold, he will tell you he doesn't have any more info about this Prudan the Healer or about the Forest of Regret specifically, but he will share enough into that you can read here about the Realms of Shadow and the Estates of Unrest.
The sun has descended and afternoon shadows give way to early evening twilight. You should be able to make it back to the village by dark with a Survival DC 12 roll - the druids instructions were pretty good.
—----------------------------------------- The village is quiet for Mak and Beech.
Mak can sense that Beech remains genuinely concerned about his welfare, but careful not to overstep.
As they steps outside, Mak and Beech can see there is a well in town and it seems to be in use. When he goes into the tavern, he asks if this is the only source of water for the people here.
The villagers continue their odd way of answering questions from the Petals by pretending they're not there and speaking to each other.
"That well's important to us. Glad to have it. Washing clothes happens down by the river, sure, but that well's what we use most." "And the beer. River water's better for the beer." "That fella's beat up. They come back and said the Prudan was a skeleton that was poisoning us, so I guess he's not our healer anymore." "Yeah, we'll have to go back to Gad." "Or we could ask the druids." "Nah, them druids hate us."
As before, no one takes initiative to offer service to Mak or Beech but if asked, food and drink will be wordlessly brought to them. Clearly the villagers can see Mak and Beech, but they have this odd habit of seeming to only directly acknowledge each other. And neither Mak nor Beech sense any malice in this. Or really any emotion at all. It's a bit unnerving.

Tsak is happy both to chip in with any gold and to provide directions as they make their way back to town (survival). Before leaving he mentions to Gad that the 'healer' has left the area and therefore the villagers may need his services again, particularly as they seem to have been affected in some way by a lingering malaise. Given the man's obvious focus on coin he adds that the druids are watching the townsfolk and would view any attempt to take advantage of them in a dim light. He tries to remember as much as he can regarding the Forest O Regret and the Realms of Shadow so that he can repeat it accurately to the more knowledgable magic folk amongst the petals. Also he remembers the fey female that visited him at Yuletide and the queer effect her gaze had upon him. The Realms of Shadow sound pretty overwhelming to Tsak and he wonders whether the Petals should seek guidance from someone much more knowledgable and powerful before they attempt to travel there. He resolves to discuss this at length with the Petals and not to be hurried into any rash decisions.

I don't know about extending life, but Woldsblood usually don't stick around outside of the Realms of Shadow. It seems to evaporate as soon as it's here. But in the Realms of Shadow, it's kind of a permanent thing, and it don't pose the threat there that it does in the Wold. He must'a found a way to open a connection to the Realm of Shadow if he was using Woldsblood here."
Q:"How did you yourself come to possess such detailed knowledge about Woldsblood and the Realm of Shadows?" A:"Let's just say I'm well traveled."
Q:"If the villagers were affected by Woldsblood, will they return to normal?" A:"That's tough to say. I'd think it'd wear off, but not really my area of expertise. But this Prudan fella, if he was a lich then he was a baddie for sure. Evil in the Wold comes on fast and fades fast once the evil's gone. Good tends to take longer to take effect and linger longer longer even after the source of that good is gone. Even though you say the lich left, maybe there's still a linkage to what he was doing."
Q:"Will you help the village?" A:"I may check in on 'em now and then. But I live out here cause I don't much like being around folk. And I'm about done talking with you three."
Q:"The druid's are watching the townsfolk." A:"Bah, those busybodies are always mindin' everyone else's business in the woods. Jerks."
It's getting dark. Time to get back to town.
—--------------------------------------- In Willsden, Mak and Beech check the well. Mak pulls up some water and looks at the water and the bucket for signs of contamination, Woldsblood or anything else.
The water smells alright and the bucket looks fine. You recall that some villagers mentioned being given tea. Beech recall that it's commonly known that Woldsblood does not typically last long in the Wold, unless someone found a way to make it stay around longer. It's possible the beer could have been contaminated, but again Woldsblood might not last long in the beer either.
Nothing about the well detects as magic, nor does anything in the tavern.
Mak is tired and needs to sleep.
—--------------------------------------------- Falco pokes around Cresthaven. He finds the usual assortment of goods you would expect to find in a small seaside town. Folk there are curious about him, but polite. Some suggest that since you're supposed to wear a feather in Blackbird Forest, perhaps being a birdman covers that. Then he finds a quiet place to pray.
In the WLA, Panzer relates the recent happenings in Willsden. They say this would explain why the druids quarantined the town, and they pepper him with questions. Is there anything Panzer does not share? As for info on the Realms of Shadow, he will learn enough to read here about the Realms of Shadow and the Estates of Unrest.
Aboard the Rose, Falco lets Ramsey know everyone's alright, but that the Petals will be gone for a while more. He tells Ramsey to keep the crew out of trouble, and Ramsey says Cresthavin's too small for them to cause much problem, but he'll make sure of it.
Elyas intends to sleep aboard the ship. What about Falco and Panzer?

Panzer tells those in the WLA anything he knows about what transpired out at Wilsden. The WLA are heroes of the realm and he sees no reason to not inform them. He soaks in everything he is told about the Realm of Shadow. He also asks how long it takes a lich to "put itself back together" after being defeated. Panzer shoulders the bag of goodies from the mission and heads to the catacombs. Nothing had been claimed by the Petals so he intends to sell everything and bring back the gold to be split up. As to where he sleeps.... well he makes sure to sleep abord the Rose if he has either the loot or the gold from selling the loot on him. No need to be dumb and get robbed he figures.

After he prays and settles his spirit before stopping by the catacombs for something he had been forgetting to buy for some time, a handy haversack, along with the diamond powder. Once settled he heads to the boat for the night. He worries briefly before he beds down that he does not have water breathing prepared as he normally would but gets over it.

Sensing that Gad has been as forthcoming as he's going to be, Kiwina asks no more questions before they head back to the village.
Kiwina figures that even though Woldsblood evaporates, it has to go somewhere. Maybe it filters up through the earth and affects the village on its way to wherever -- in which case shutting down the gate ought to help the village. And also, in which case, they ought not delay long enough to be affected themselves. (Kiwina has no knowledge of the planes and little enough of religion, so defers to anyone with another explanation.)

While Mak rests, Beech stays as a alert as can be, until the rest of the group returns for it's chat. Then after a watch is chosen, he preps some more food, but stuff that's portable and stable enough for a few days to eat.

Kiwina can sense that the Petals may have extracted what information they can from this hermit the locals call Gad. The three thank the old man and turn to go. The old hermit responds, "Watch out for them druids going back. They're a tricky bunch, an' I would trust 'em as far as I can throw 'em." (I don't mean to cut you off - if you have more questions you think this guy may have answers for, let me know.)
Kiwina, Ayotnom and Tsak make their way back in the dwindling light - DC 21 Survival check to follow the druid Jasent's directions back to town. As you approach the Wilsden, you see dim lamplight in some of the town windows. While you see a villager or two move mechanically about some task or another, there seems to be no guard posted.
You make your way to the empty house the villagers had mentioned. Opening the door, you startle Beech a bit. Mak is pretty tired and is already asleep. But there is no sign yet of Elyas, Falco or Panzer. Which is not shocking, since you figured Elyas may need to spend the night to be able to teleport again to get back.
In the morning, the five in town wake. Mak feels greatly refreshed as is his old self, achy leg and all. He's glad to not feel that strength sapping exhaustion and fatigue he felt the day before.
Stepping outside, you see the villagers beginning to shuffle about, but you wouldn't describe the activity as lively. Soon, you see Jasent and with him are three others dressed in leathers and carrying a staff or a cudgel. Jasent greets whomever of the Petals are outside.
He looks around carefully as he say, "Good morning. I trust you slept well. And I trust you were not visited by a lich or his ilk during the night? I've brought some friends - this is Urla, Ques, and Halvarion. We'll check the villagers as you suggested. I wonder if there's anything we can do for them? Is there anything we can do for you all?"
—-------------------------------------------------- At the WLA in Cresthaven they are very glad to talk to Panzer, taking copious notes as he relates what happened with the lich. They will tell him that a lich takes some time to reform, but time can move differently in the Realms of Shadow and the Vales of Twilight. If indeed the portal Panzer mentioned connects to such places, as the pool of Woldsblood suggests, there's no telling when or where the lich may be.
That evening, Falco and Panzer hire a boat to take them out to the Rose, which is the Petal's ship. As you approach, you can see there are lanterns lit, and your boat is soon spotted as a call goes out from the ship, answered by the man rowing your little boat. A rope ladder is let down and as you climb aboard, Elyas and Ramsey, the ship's first mate, greet you. They are happy to find Panzer a place to bunk, and the three comrades drift to sleep with the gently sway of the ship anchored in the bay.
You wake in the morning refreshed. Ramsey has the cook prepare a simple breakfast.

Ayotnom knows he's canny at nature craft but he is more wise than average so he tries to aid one of the other party members in navigating back and is successful in his aid attempt (OOC: whoever is trying to beat the 21 gets a +2)
Ayotnom asks, "I don't suppose you druids know anything about the Realms of Shadow or Forest of Regret specifically. I think that is where we are headed if we use the lich's portal and well we probably will need all the information we can get."

In the morning Faloc find Ramsey. "Its good to be back on the boat, even if just for a short time." He pats Ramsey on the back. " I am sure we will be leaving again shortly but is everything going ok with the ship?"
Falco will ills his time talking to the crew before they teleport back to the others.

While they are waiting in town for the others to return, Kiwina tries reading the notes he had gathered from the caves. He won't understand them as well as Elyas would, but maybe there is something in there about manipulating the gate or about the shadowlands.
Tsak follows the druids instructions without any real trouble and they make it safely back to town. He beds down and grabs as much sleep as he can. In the morning he's pleasantly surprised to see the druids. At their offer of assistance he enquires what they know about dealing with a lich, finding his phylactory and also navigating and travelling in the shadow realms.

Panzer just heads to the hammok he was assigned on the trip to this town, no need for Ramsey to worry. In the morning he heads to the catacombs to sell off the groups excess treasure. He packs a lunch, not knowing how full the catacombs might be.
