DM Mark - Into the Woods? Tuesday April 9th, 2024 6:52:52 PM
The Petals rest in probably the most awful place they've ever rested in. Everything about this place feels and looks foreign and depressing.
Ayotnom asks Falco for a Restoration spell. He'd like to carry the Gem of Seeing.
Kiwina and Panzer are in need of their constitution to be restored, and they both look rough, though Panzer looks worse. Panzer has felt this kind of thing before, so he knows that this was constitution drain and not merely constitution damage. (An actual Restoration spell is needed to address this loss - Lesser Restoration will not be enough. Note that a single Restoration spell will address both temporary negative levels AND drain to a single ability score.)
Panzer is pleased to find that he possesses a kukri of great power he didn't know he had before. Perhaps this is some boon from one of the gods - maybe Domi who seems to have taken some interest in the Petals' activities before Panzer even joined this group. What's more, he instinctively knows its abilities. Still, it's an encouraging sign in a depressing place.
Tsak is glad for healing and food from his friends in this dismal place.
Falco will cast Restoration on Ayotnom and Panzer. This removes both the negative levels and the constitution damage.
Elyas is glad to have the Staff of Illumination on hand, and finds that it is fully charged. Beech agrees.
The party looks around them. There are in a lifeless plain beside a small river of Woldsblood. As your eyes follow the course of the Woldsblood you note occasional motes of light dancing on the surface which you think denote a soul flowing with the Woldsbloood here. Ahead, your gaze is drawn towards a looming sight on the horizon: a dense, lifeless forest emerges before them, several hours away. Stretching out across the landscape, its trees stand like guardians, their skeletal forms stripped bare of leaves, the wood itself bearing a pallid, lifeless complexion.

Whether he keeps it or returns it to the party treasure hoard for selling later is yet to be seen but its power could be of use in this strange place in case they come across something in the future where the ability to cast true seeing might come in handy.

After their rest, Kiiwna assumes they're headed for the forest. Which brings him back to the question of whether anyone has a way to narrow down where in the forest they should look. Not that he's much help himself. . . "He was in a pool of woldsblood on the other side of the portal, so it's likely he's in another one here. Perhaps we should stay close enough to the river while we are going through the forest to look for a likely pool to be connected to it."

Ayontom holds onto the Gem of Seeing.
Kiwina is not sure what the exact destination is, though he recalls that Achtoor the lich was asking questions about the Forest of Regret, and there is certainly what looks like a forest up ahead. He resolves to follow the river of Woldsblood as he goes. Panzer agrees.
Tsak takes up a rear position as the Petals move forward. He tries to engage the tacuiturn Mak in a game as he goes.
Falco casts Restoration on Kiwina. This seems to resolve any outstanding level loss and ability drain issues. (Falco cast Restoration the day before on Beech and Tsak, and today on Ayotnom, Panzer and Kiwina. So he has cast it three times today. Please let me know if I misunderstood.)
Beech looks at the carved ebony skull. The thing is wholly evil, exuding an Unhallow effect within a 40' radius. In addition it grants Endure Elements within this area as well.
As the party follows the course of the Woldsblood with it's occasional motes of light dancing on the surface into the forest, you see trees stand like guardians, their skeletal forms stripped bare of leaves, the wood itself bearing a pallid, lifeless complexion.

Elyas wonders how a lifeless forest could exist around a river of Woldsbood. He notices the forlorn, lifeless trees seem to have a face full of sadness and longing, the branches almost looking like elongated limbs stretching to grasp something out of reach.
Many of the Petals notice this as well as the general sense of despair in this place. Beech wonders if perhaps souls trapped here become the trees they see.
The Petals suddenly notice a translucent spirit lash out at Falco. Kiwina considers his weapon. Panzer strikes back, but misses. Ayotnom casts Mage Armor on himself. Falco withdraws as he draws his bow.
Beech casts Disrupt Undead on the attacker, but as the creature is incorporeal, his spell does little damage (half of 5 damage, so 3.)
Tsak looks around for other opponents. He can see that there are a few translucent spirits walking in the same direction as the Petals were moving, though they seem distracted and uninterested in the group.
The thing that attacked Falco now focuses on Panzer. It strikes at the little fighter, incorporeal claws fake his flesh, ignoring his physical and natural armor (hit AC 21). The claws inflict two points of strength damage.
Though incorporeal, the thing is not invisible. Incorporeal means you only inflict half damage from most effects, and effects that do not inflict damage have a 50% chance of being effective.

As the party squares off against this incorporeal attacker, Panzer's kukri quickly put an end to the thing. The wispy form of the thing seems to dissolve away.
Falco casts Shield on himself. As he observes the combat and the effect a hit has on Panzer, he thinks this creature seems to behave like a Shadow, but it's not a Shadow exactly. Maybe Shadow's look different here. If this was indeed a trapped soul in this awful purgatory, he doubts it was actually killed. But in any event, it is no longer there.
Kiwina considers this as well. The creature appeared as a wispy, translucent figure, medium in size and generally human in appearance. It had AC 15 and it took 19 points of damage before it dissipated.
Searches of the area reveal no more than you saw before.
Continuing along the River of Woldsblood, you move deeper into the heart of the forest. Around you is a haunting scene you'll not soon forget and map perhaps see again in your nightmares. Lost souls, ensnared within the realm's cruel grasp, drift aimlessly among the gnarled trees. These spectral beings, once vibrant and alive, now flicker like candle flames in the wind, their forms translucent and ephemeral. With each step, the adventurers disturb the eerie silence, prompting the lost souls to turn towards them with hollow eyes filled with longing and despair.
As you pass, you see one being seems to surrender and you watch as their feet become rooted and they seem to take the form of a tree, their arms extending skyward in a plaintive request for something they cannot reach.
At the edge of your hearing is the faint sound of their mournful wails, echoing through the darkness like a chorus of the damned. Some of these lost souls reach out to the party, their spectral hands trembling with desperation as they plead for release from their torment. Others drift silently by, their vacant stares fixated on some sad, distant memory. Perhaps they know where they are and what is here, perhaps not.
Perception DC 20:Highlight to display spoiler: {As you listen, each cry is a poignant reminder of lives cut short, dreams left unfulfilled, and destinies unfulfilled.
- Why did I not go to Alzia's wedding? Why? She never forgave me. - Tevan, oh Tevan. Why could I not accept you for who you are? Why did I send you away? - Why could I never be content with what I had? What drove me to risk everything and impoverish my family? - Unarius had no business paying my debt. I knew it would destroy him, but I let him do it anyway.}
And even as some souls seem to reach out to the Petals asking for help, occasionally one reacts with ill intent. As before, one creature charges at Tsak, malevolent despair dancing in what were its eyes. Tsak watches in horror as the thing's claws seem to pass though his armor and rake his soul. He takes 6 Strength damage. (This is a medium creature and it is incorporeal so damage from spells or weapons is only 50%.)
While most of the souls here seem to ignore the attack, two seem to rush at the attacker, attempting unsuccessfully to pull it away from Tsak!

Swim 60' Sunday April 14th, 2024 9:55:07 AM Kiwina, born on an uncharted island to the west, grew up in an ocean-going society. He considers no calling more noble than that of navigator -- to guide a ship out and return the crew safety and to the right port after months at sea. The moon, a celestial voyager, held a special place in Kiwina's understanding. To his people, the moon rose from the ocean in the east and descended into its watery cradle in the west. The rhythmic dance of the tides was a cosmic lullaby, and the moon, at its largest when cradled by the ocean, inspired a dream within Kiwina. One day, he aspired to sail eastward, chasing the moon on the vast expanse of the ocean. His dream — to climb onto the moon as it rose from the water — was a testament to the boundless possibilities that lay ahead.
The spirits spoke to Kiwina through dreams, offering wisdom and guidance, weaving tales of ancient and familial connections. Among these spirits, the akua, kupua, and aumakua held a special place. The aumakua, in particular, served as guardians, reaching out to everyone in dreams. They had started him on this journey, but had let him bide a while at the Taur Isles and find friends. Perhaps it was time to start his journey again.
Listening to the spirits of this place, full of regret for the dreams that had not chased, well -- Kiwina did not want to spend eternity that way. Perhaps some of his friends would pursue his dream with him, once they were done with their mission here. . . Kiwina is pulled from his reverie by the second attack.
"We need to find a way to keep these spirits away from us. If we're weakened when we find the lich, things might not go well." Having no spells that would accomplish this, Kiwina tries to talk to the two helpful spirits.

As the attack from the malevolent spirit drain's Tsak's strength, Ayotnom is quick to attack the thing, followed by Panzer. Between the two of them, they are able to quickly put and end to the attacking spirit. With an anguished look, the spirit dissipates.
As the Petals look around, they can see a good number of spirits here. The spirits seem to wander aimlessly through the forest as if seeking something. Most ignore the Petals, seemingly lost in their own quest. Some just stare off into space. A few look with hatred and despair at the living creatures that have invaded this place, though none move in your direction.
Some of the spirits seem to travel in the direction the Petals were headed along the river of Woldsblood. And everywhere, the "tree-people" here make up a macabre forest, as the trees reach skyward in a plaintive request for something that seems forever out of reach. This place is depressing.
The Petals consider if there are ways to hold the spirits at bay from them, and several have thoughts on this matter.
Kiwina tries to speak to the two spirits here that seemed to intervene when Tsak was attacked. They mouth words he has trouble hearing. But Kiwina has a special connection to the spirit world. The normally invisible aumakua that surround the centaur seem to appear. They speak to Kiwina in a voice that all can hear.
"Mo'opuna, you should not be here. We should not be here. We do not know what this place is, but it is bad. The souls here are lost, but these two are trying to answer you. They ask why you are here, what did you lose? They say there is a structure ahead, and that it recently diverted the path of some Woldsblood to head this way through the forest. They don't know why. They say there is something missing from these lands, a creature or an entity I think, but they can't seem to describe it any better than that."
A strange feature of this place is that, for each of you, regrets that you had in your past seem to come to mind more often, and they seem more vivid and real. These regrets seem to call to you to stop and lament with those here.
Each person needs to make a DC 20 Will Save. If you fail: Highlight to display spoiler: {Failure means you stop, overcome by a deep sense of sadness and regret. As you surrender to this place, your feet seem to dig into the earth and you cannot move from where you are.}

Will save 12 nat 1. Panzer finds that he cannot move as he recalls the last conversation he and his parents had when he decided to venture out into the wide Wold and become an adventuring warrior.
His Mother cried and tried to dissuade him since she didn't want her dear son to end up dead at the bottom of some endless dungeon where no one would retrieve his corpse for her to mourn. she tried t remind him of all the comforts of home he would miss and the loving parents who wanted him to stay. He was her only child and he was breaking her heart by trying to leave and head out into danger.
His father tried to forbid him from going. He cited that he was needed at the mining company and would need to take over when his father retired. He recalled how he had led a dangerous life as a merchant when he was younger and had helped to bring about Parnoth's downfall by carrying messages for the resistance. He recalled how dangerous it was out there and didn't want his only son and heir to go out where he wouldn't be able to return to watch over all that his father had created in his life. When his father saw that his mind was made up he directed him to go see a warrior he knew in the Emerald Kingdom so that he could learn techniques to keep him safe. He also gave Panzer an elemental gem in case he needed help out in the Wold.Panzer ended up using that gem when some other beastkin came looking specifically for him. He wonders why the sought him and what may have happened back home to have a group not only looking for him, but trying to kill him at the same time.

Highlight to display spoiler: { Using a Hero Point on Save } Beech, is both glad and regretful about his upbringing... It's not that he's "Special", or at least no more so that any other youth. He never really had the normal growing up challenges that other's had, He was not really challenged at all, because he was well "prepped" by his mom's adventuring friends, legends for most kids, they were the ones who taught him small things they had learned while adventuring. While he did have challenges, they just weren't what the other children had. Yes, Beech went of his stay in the "Hell-lands" where his mom got clawed and still has the scar on her flank. But with the advanced training he got, it was hardly a challenge. Now, learning to pilot the Silver Swan was mostly easy, it was learning to slow her back down and safely into the special docking slip which was difficult. Going to IMOD City, and being introduced to the Family of Dragons scared the heck out of him, learning the proper etiquette took him weeks. So even without the basic childhood, there were great things, but he really doesn't have friends his actual age, where the other Liontaurs who are his age have quite a few.... He shakes off the melancholy, and listens in as the spirits are talking... "Well, maybe if we can redirect the woldsblood to it's proper flowing direction, it will help you and those others seem stuck in this darned forest of regrets...."
The creatures claws rake Tsak and it seems as if his very being pours out of the wound. His strength deserts him and he almost drops his sword. Looking at his sword arm in disbelief he's shaken to his core. What's he doing here? Who does he think he's fooling. He's made plenty of money, he could have a lovely shack overlooking the sea and surrounded by an orange orchard. Far from this cold, dreary foresaken place. Then Esmerelda's face swims into view. Kiwina turns to his ancestral spirits for help. The aumakua ask the spirits of this place about a great evil they seek and where this structure might be. They reply, "We know of no evil save the regrets that have trapped us here. But you ask about a structure. It is up ahead. You can find it by following the Woldsblood."
Even as these mournful spirits speak, Kiwina's mind drifts to the fact that he left Kinipeli behind when he left his homeland. He shakes off the thought though and sticks to his task.
Ayotnom thinks of the person that killed his father, wishing to avenge him one day.
This place has an effect on Panzer, and he regrets the pain that leaving his family caused them. These thoughts consume the little fighter, and he soon finds that his feet will not move. As he looks down, he can see them dig into the earth of this place, and his arms seem to reach up of their own volition. But because of his regrets, he hardly cares that he's becoming a tree in this place.
Beech thinks of his upbringing among some of the heroes of the Wold. But even though he has some regrets, he finds they are over shadowed by the strength of his mother and her friends. He knows it is friends that make all the difference.
Tsak is overcome with regrets about the loss of Esmerelda, and weeps as his feet become rooted to this place and his arms stretch up, reaching for some sort of redemption.
But it is friends that make all the difference in this place. Even as Mak wrestles with his regret regarding having left with his brother's fate unknown, he is able to offer a kind word of encouragement to Tsak. Tsak can make another DC 20 Will save to shake off the effects of this place and free himself.
As his friends become stuck here, Falco steeles himself and ignores his regrets. He casts Bless on his friends, and Restoration on Tsak. This bolsters both Panzer and Tsak, and gives Panzer another DC 20 Will save to shake off the effects of this place and free himself. Also, this removes the Strength damage Tsak suffered.
A sense of regret presses in on Elyas as he thinks of his friends he left behind when he escaped the chains he endured in his youth. But his desire to press on in the Petals quest helps him shake off these dark thoughts.
So, Panzer and Tsak, thanks to the ministrations of their friends, can make another save. If they fail, they remain anchored where they are. (I believe Panzer still is at -2 STR.)

This brings a smile to his face as he sees both of his parents alive and well, none the worse off for his leaving. He vows to return home and visit them to show he is all right and to introduce his friends to them.

Panzer, when the realization that some regrets can be overcome, begins to get his arms and legs back under his control. It is a struggle, but Ayotnom helps him ‘uproot’ himself, and then count to make sure he still has all his toes.
Tsak, beginning to lose hope and lost in his regrets, watches as the light at the end of his tunnel begins to diminish. However, when he hears Mak’s voice, and feels him grab his arm, Tsak comes out of his fog, and Mak and Ayotnom are also able to help ‘uproot’ Tsak … and again there is the consummate toe counting.
Mak, realizing that something needed to change, pulls his mandolin from his bag and begins to play and sing. Badly, very badly … however, he knows his singing is terrible, but it still makes him and the rest of the group begin laughing, which seems to push some of the power of this place back
Beech admonishes Mak, by asking him to Stop strangling the cat, and then joins in on the song, not as bad as Mak, but still not as great as a tavern bard.
Falco begins laughing at Mak’s playing, and the voices of Mak and Beech singing, not in harmony at all. All of this begins to reign in his anxiety, and he posits, Mak you need lessons. Looking at his friends, Falco continues, As we’re all still here, lets see that we can do while we’re here.
As Maks’ song comes to a close, Kiwina begins a shanty, which sounds much better than Mak and Beech’s attempts at singing.
Elyas, with hope beginning to grow in himself, also adds his voice to Kiwina’s shanty … which makes him feel better, and he hopes it will bolster his friends’ mood
The shanty continues, with Kiwina and Elyas adding pieces and parts to make the song include all their friends, and their attempt appears to be working as the party feels their anxiety begin to lessen.
It is during this time that Kiwina remembers what the spirits told him, "We know of no evil save the regrets that have trapped us here. But you ask about a structure. It is up ahead. You can find it by following the Woldsblood."

As the party sings, and laughs, you follow the rivulet of Woldsblood through the forest. Knowing now what can happen, the party avoids getting to close to any of the trees, though they can still hear the laments around them, the faint sound of their mournful wails, echoing through the darkness like a chorus of the damned. Each cry is a poignant reminder of lives cut short, dreams left unfulfilled, and destinies unfulfilled.
Moving through the forest, the party is surprised to go from dense woodlands to open land. Though still not pleasant, this is a welcome change. Leaving behind the voices and feelings of regret, the party is shocked and surprised to see an ancient spire looming like a colossal shard, several miles away. Its surface shimmers like polished obsidian as it stretches towards the sky. The spire 300 ' tall. It is roughly 100' most of the way up and it narrows to a point at the top.
Below the spire's towering presence, three rivers of Woldsblood come together, converging at its base, while only a single rivulet emerges from it — the very one the party has been diligently tracking. The motes of light that match the portal they passed through continue to dance on the surface of the Woldsblood here, and also dance upon the surface of the spire.
And what, brave adventurers do you do? Unfortunately there is not a gift shop selling trinkets from your journey to this point, although that would be both frightening and cool.

The party looks at the spire in the distance, unsure how to approach.
Well, they're unsure until Ayotnom comes up with the idea of posting as a Catacombs delivery!
(Tell me what you do as you approach.)
The spire is indeed imposing. As you get closer to the tower - maybe 100' away, you half expect a barrage of fireballs and lightning bolts to rain down. But nothing happens - at least not yet.
At the base of the spire the party can see what appears to be a grand and imposing doorway, made from the same obsidian-like material as the rest of the structure. The doors are closed. You circle from a distance, but see no entrance.
This doorway rises tall and wide, and and even from a distance you can see it is carved with intricate designs etched into its surface reminiscent of ancient runes or symbols of power.
Above this doorway, you see an inscription you can read with some effort at that distance. It says, "Herein lies the end of regret. Many who regret yearn for me, but few ever choose me, as my path can be even more difficult. Call upon my name if you dare."

The Petals regard the black tower, coming closer to look at the ancient runes and the riddle above what appears to be a door.
Kiwina tries to puzzle out the runes and symbols, but isn't able to read any of it.
Panzer steps up and says, "Peace." Nothing happens. Ayotnom tries a few things that have no effect. Falco calls out, "Delivery!" Still nothing. Beech thinks it might be Courage. Mak is sure the answer is death. Nothing happens.
Tsak has some thoughts, but when Kiwina suggests Redemption, Tsak agrees that's a good answer to the riddle.
Evidently, the tower also thinks that's a good response. As Kiwina says, "Redemption", the symbols seem to move and shift, and as they do so, what was clearly only a carved door is now outlined to reveal an actual door, complete with handles and you can see where the door, though still made of the same material, is somewhat separate from the tower.
But the door is closed, and it looks like if such a heavy door can be opened, it will require a strength check. You see no keyhole or obvious lock.
What do you do? Also, please let me know generally where you are relative to the doorway.
(I thought this might be a tough riddle. Kiwina earns a Hero Point for coming up with this so quickly!)

Ayotnom mentions tales he's heard and wonders aloud if the tower might be antimagic.
Panzer is not about to be put off by a mere door. He tries again and fails. Then he looks almost comical as he grabs the door handle with some determination and braces his feet on the other door so that he's almost horizontal as he pulls hard against the door. Mak steps up to lend some help with this. With a low grinding sound, the door is slowly pulled open a few feet. Once opened, it is a bit easier to open the jet black door more, and the other door can be opened as well.
Dim light spills into the darkened interior of the tower, but does not reach to the back of this space. The air here is stale, and smells of dry stone and dirt. The inside walls are of the same black stone as the outside, and appear to be about 10' thick. (In the dim light from the doorway, normal folks can see about 20' in, and those with low-light vision can see about 40'. Beyond that seems to be normal darkness. But the map below shows the whole area for simplicity.)
Though you cannot see it all, the space here is about 80' around and the stone ceiling is 20' high. In front of you are what appear to be some stone sarcophagi. On the top of the nearest ones (and probably the rest) you see a bas relief of an armored warrior laying with eyes closed and holding a sword from its waist to its feet.
Panzer peers as far as the dim light allows, looking for traps. Nothing seems like an obvious traps from where he is. But he knows that careful examination my require a closer look, perhaps with better light. (I know you can look for some traps from a distance, but if you were looking for traps concealed in a chest, you'd need need to be up next to the chest's lid or locking mechanism to check properly. It's a DM call. But no traps so far.)
Falco is relieved the door actually opens. He was not looking forward to climbing the tower.
Tsak marvels at the little badger-man's ability to wrestle open such a large door. The ranger moves to back him up. Mak is ready to back up Panzer as well as he adjusts his weapons. He chides Tsak, asking him what's the worst that could happen.
Beech is ready to lose an arrow or cast a spell.
Kiwina concentrates, and his weapon magically separates into two, shifting into a trident and a light mace.

Panzer looks into the dimly lit room. He can only see the first two sarcophagi even with his low-light vision, but is sure they must contain undead. Ayotnom doubts that undead could be in what he thinks is an antimagic area.
Mak steps up. He can tell his darkvision does not work in the tower, and he presses in a bit. His bow, previously shrunk to a tiny size in his glove, suddenly regains size and clatters to the floor. Mak announces that indeed the area is antimagic.
Falco wonders about the extent of the antimagic. Beech too is curious. He imbues an arrow with a spell and shoots it into the room. He shoots it at the base of the closest sarcophagi. It clatters and his spell does not go off.
Elyas laments not bringing any torches.
Kiwina thinks that perhaps this might prevent the lich from reforming here. He wonders aloud if he could use Prestidigation to create a torch? (Good question. I'll bring it up on the Rules Board. It creates crude, fragile items that cannot be used as tools or weapons. Can it create lamp oil? Can it create a torch, that usually has some substance on the end that will burn slowly? I don't know.)
The Petals stop at the doorway - from the map, it looks like only Mak is in the doorway, and everyone else is outside. The dark room has a stale, musty smell. So what's powering this spell? If its bigger than an antimagic field it must have a strong force sustaining it right? You don't use toothpicks to hold up a house, you use a strong foundation. Is it the woldsblood? if it is then we are outside the tower, where the woldsblood comes from. What is stopping us from diverting it away from the tower and cutting the power source?" Beech doesn't really know anything about anti-magic, but he does have a couple comments about Woldsblood... "Well, it's not three streams leading to the tower, I'm imagining it was originally a single stream headed in the direction it was supposed to. The Tower may be getting powered from it, I don't know. I know mom powers a lot of her spells with just a few drops, so no idea what a stream of it will do. Especially if our Lich friend was a Fixer before he became a Lich. He somehow created an off shoot stream, the one we followed from the portal and caused it to not be squeezed out of existence once it crosses to our plane of existence. But anyways, is there some way we can route the incoming stream around the tower to continue the original course of the Woldsblood?"
DM Mark - "I'm not liking this anti magic business." Monday April 29th, 2024 2:39:40 PM
Petals ponder what to do. The thought of venturing into what they believe is an area of antimagic area gives them pause.
Ayotnom holds the gem of true seeing up to his eye. As he gazes through it, he can see the tower even better than the ambient dim light of this place would normally allow. But when he attempts to look in the open doorway to the interior of the tower, he sees the same thing as he did without the gem. Since minotaurs have neither darkvision nor low-light vision, the ambient dim light of this place only illuminates about 20' beyond the doorway.
Tsak moves next to Mak. Standing in the doorway, the half-orc's 60' darkvision allows him to see several sarcophagi. He asks which of the loot boxes they should open first.
Panzer considers his situation. This whole plane is dimly lit, so the ambient dim light only provides dim light into the doorway for about 20' in, double that for creatures with low-light vision. He asks his friends to use Detect Magic to determine the school of magic they detect here. But, as noted before, when they concentrate on the tower they do not detect any magic, nor do they detect any magic as they look into the open doorway of the tower. When they look at the nearby rivers and rivulets of Woldsblood, it's not magic per se, but it does radiate necromantic magic.
Panzer uses his engineering skill to look at the tower, the ground it's on, and the nearby rivers of Woldsblood. The tower appears to be made of some sort of black stone, and the walls look to be 10' thick. The ground around the tower looks to be flat. The floor and the ceiling in the tower seems to be flat. The direction of flow in the rivers of Woldsbloodcan only be inferred from the souls in them, represented by motes of light and vague shapes in the river. It does not seem to flow according to gravity or slope. In some cases, it has appeared to flow uphill at times, so it does not seem to obey the normal laws of physics and gravity.
Kiwina thinks about the rivers of Woldsblood here. He can see that three seem to come together near the spire and merge into the single river the Petals followed to get here. Also, as Kiwina considers using Prestidigitation to create a torch, he knows it can create a fragile version of an unlit torch, but he doubts it would actually light and even if it did, it would not work for very long.
Elyas peers into the room. He can only see the outline of the first two sarcophagi. He summons a fire elemental and sends it in. It winks out of existence as it enters the room, though it did briefly illuminate most of the room before it disappeared.
Falco leaves the others to walk around the tower. He finds the only features are the doors and their carvings. As he wanders around the tower with Detect Magic, he detects nothing emanating from the tower walls.
Mak laments his over reliance on magic. He asks Tsak what he sees, but the Half-orc can only see about 60' in. He sees no other doorways.
Beech looks at the rivers of Woldsblood. None of them actually intersect the tower, and the seeming direction of flow is hard to discern. He has some thoughts about the nature of Woldsblood. He knows it contains dangerous power in the Wold, but here it seems more mundane and normal somehow. Perhaps it behaves differently in the Realms of Shadow.
The Petals regard this seeming combination of antimagic and darkness with great trepidation.

Panzer begins digging, as badgers do from time to time. Ayontom and Kiwina pitch in. But dig as they might, the rivers of Woldsblood are not diverted. They seem to have a stubborn ability to flow where they will. You could be at this for months, and you're not even sure you could control the flow of Woldsblood here.
(Moving the rocky ground is indeed difficult even with proper equipment, but the Woldsblood doesn't behave like actual water in this place. A dam placed in its way sometimes simply has the Woldsblood flow over it and back down along its present course. It doesn't even soak into the ground.)
And besides, the Woldsblood does not intersect the tower. There seem to be three rivers of Woldsblood that join near the tower, and one flows through the Forest of Regret where you came from.
Mak wonders if this will have an effect. He pulls out his bow and keeps watch.
Falco considers casting Dispel Magic into the are where magic does not work. He's not sure that will be effective.
Beech isn't sure what else to do, so he also keeps watch.

Ayotnom Ogini Hugh C100/102(92/92) | AC : 34; Touch 25; Flat 26 CMD 38(40vs Trip, Grapple or Disarm) Monday May 6th, 2024 5:41:43 PM
Ayotnom says, "I'll help with the sargophagi if you let me borrow your dagger Kiwana."
Assuming Kiwana agrees he takes the adamantine dagger and heads over to the container Panzer is working on and starts stabbing at it.

Kiwina lets Ayotnom borrow the dagger. He moves up a bit to keep an eye on the room beyond the sarcophagus they're working on, looking for anything moving. (low light vision)

(Perception=27) Tsak watches Panzer pound the stone lid and sees it crack. Panzer then leans in closer to see whats inside. Of course he does. Tsak re-thinks his plan: it now involves sprinting for the door with the fighters seemingly-lifeless body slung over his shoulder. He studies the sarcophagus intensely, his nerves twanging on a knife edge. At the first sign of trouble he'll be scooping up Panzer and sprinting for the 'safety' of the realm of death...

Mak stood back with his bow ready to fight off anything that came leaping out.

As the lid breaks open, Ayotnom and Panzer both see the same thing. A skeleton, dressed in resplendant and shiny chainmail. Whatever clothing it was dressed in is mostly scraps or dust. In a two handed grip is an older style longsword, which is also shiny. Only the skeleton seems to show any signs of age. The swords wood and leather scabbard has turned to pretty much dust and pieces.
Tsak, when he hears the top crack open, prepares to sprint back outside with Panzer over his shoulder.
Beech and Mak are both holding their weapons, readied for an attack ...
Kiwina too is watching for anything untowards to happen to the party
Elyas and Falco had been discussing checking out the stairs, but Panzer popped the top on the tomb before they made much headway.
The skeleton is just that—a skeleton. It doesn't pop up and attack but lies there, having found its eternal rest.
What now Petals????

Panzer puts away his mining tools and pulls out his knives, the tools of his trade. He moves back towards the stairs, watching for traps . Perception 44
