The last of the party hold outs fall through the misty portal.
Cyrion, Mundhi, and Elron join Zeoll, Bill, The Twins, Irony and Asimov in free fall down a corridor filled with clocks. All the clocks read 11:30 am but when the party is reunited things fade to black and the group finds themselves...
(OOC: The falling was just a transition thing; as the party didn't all jump the same round I didn't want to be running two Boydos rooms at the same time; there was no key or anything)
...at one end of the long room. Chips of bone cover the floor. The door out is at the other end. The door out -- on the other side of the room -- is shaped like the Tower.

Asimov says to Elron, "I thought we deduced that from the splinter of door Cyrion carries? It pointed first at the small dark shroom then after a long pause it pointed at the stalagmites on our platform, then the other platforms, then the empty center between the platforms. There were shorter pauses between the slagmites, platforms and center so I thought we interpreted that as the stalagmites, pillars and center being related to solving the room and the dark shroom being also important but not in connection to leaving the room so we deduced a dark shroom was the key. I have several smaller samples in my pack and I believe someone else also grabbed one. If there isn't a key amongst all those dark shrooms then I guess we are hosed but I don't think we are if all you needed is a single shroom to qualify as a 'key'."

DM Hugh - The long room - 2 Friday June 21st, 2024 4:28:40 AM The Twins look for a way out worried that the party didn’t take a key from the previous room and that they may have trapped themselves without it.
Cyrion asks why bones, and why couldn’t they find a room full of flowers
Zeoll picks up the bone and examines it,
Zeoll Highlight to display spoiler: { while he can’t find any religious connection from a natural perspective it appears to be a humanoid bone and if he had to guess probably dwarf. It also has a very faint aura of necromancy }
Elron asks if the small shroom was the key. He hopes it was, not that he picked one up himself. He asked who decided there was something special about it and do they see anything special here.
Asimov explains to Elron that they decided the shroom was the key when Cyrion’s door splinter pointed to it first then after a long pause it pointed to the stalagmites, a shorter paus the platforms, a shorter pause the center of the room. Since the hint splinter the door had given them indicated it was important they deduced it was the key.
He takes a look around and asks Cyrion about his horns.
As the party stands in the entrance of the long room 11 images of giants coalesce at their end. The images, sort of see-through, advance towards the tower/door on the other side. From the chips on the floor, skeletons form, one per illusion/giant. They fight, and the skeletons defeat the giants. As they fight the giants, the skeletons scream defiance at the giants: "You will never take the Tower, Jarl!" "For the honor of Boydos!" "Rally the Tower!" "Hold for Boydos!"

Mundhildur, being a giant herself, is inclined to root for the giants. What sort of giants are they, though? Some sorts she likes better than others. On the other hand, were they trying to harm Boydos? Or something else? The dwarfs certainly are, what's the word? - doughty.

DM Hugh - The Long Room 3 Saturday June 22nd, 2024 7:49:18 AM The twins shrug suggesting the mushroom was a good guess but they didn’t have time to consider.
Mundhi being a giant herself is inclined to root for the other giants. She observes these giants appear to be of the frost variety. She suggests they might see the bones knitting themselves together.
Cyrion says he doesn’t have horns, then realizes he has horns but says since they are small he can hide them in a hat.
Zeoll tells the others what he’s surmised about the bone then watches the scene unfold his mouth agape
Asimov suggests that Cyrion could also use the art of perspective to hide his horns but then he’d need mirrors.
As the party stays put at the entrance to the long room they continues to watch as the scene resets itself time and again. Sometimes some of the skeletons are destroyed during the fights with the giants, other times all the skeletons survive and then after they scream their taunts at the defeated “giants” the skeletons themselves turn back to bone fragments, only to reform as skeletons when the images of the Jarl’s frost giants appear.

Elron stands on the old battlefield, watching the ghostly scene of frost giants battling skeletons. He is struck by the relentless repetition of the giants' defeat. Though he knows nothing of the true history, he feels compelled to offer an explanation to those around him, weaving a tale from the fragments of the vision before him.
Elron clears his throat and begins to speak, his voice taking on a confident, storyteller's cadence. "Gather round, friends, and I'll tell you th' tale o' th' Battle o' Winter's End," he announces, gesturing to the spectral combat unfolding before them.
"Long ago, in a time when th' lands were gripped by eternal winter, th' Frost Giant King, Hrimthar th' Relentless, sought t' conquer these territories and bring them under his icy dominion. His army was vast an' mighty, their strength bolstered by th' unforgivin' cold. They were feared by all who dwelt in those frozen lands."
Elron pauses, letting the weight of his words sink in before continuing. "But th' northern territories were not without defenders. A powerful necromancer, known only as th' Bonekeeper, had took up residence in an ancient crypt. With dark magic, th' Bonekeeper summoned legions of skeletal warriors to protect th' land from Hrimthar's icy grasp."
As he speaks, Elron glances at the ghostly figures, drawing inspiration from their movements. "Th' Frost Giants, confident in their strength, marched upon th' necromancer's domain, expectin' an easy victory. Yet, they were met with a relentless tide o' undead soldiers -- skeletons, though fragile in appearance, that fought with an unwavering determination, driven by the Bonekeeper's dark will."
Elron's eyes narrow as he describes the battle's progression. "The giants fought valiantly, their mighty blows shattering bones. But th' Bonekeeper's magic was inexhaustible, and the giants found themselves overwhelmed by the ceaseless onslaught."
He gestures dramatically to the spectral battle. "An' so th' giants fell, one by one, their strength no match for th' relentless necromancer. Hrimthar hisself was th' last to fall, cursin' th' Bonekeeper with his dyin' breath. The battlefield was left a desolate, haunted place, forever marked by th' giants' defeat."
Elron finishes his tale with a somber tone. "This, my friends, is why the spirits of the fallen still linger here, replayin' their final moments in an endless loop. A testament to the futility of their struggle."

Zeoll stops singing and urges his comrades forward with the splinter.

Consequences of failed saves:
Mundhi - must make a DC10 Will save each day or take 1 point of Wisdom damage. The Twins - must make a DC10 Will save each day or take 1 point of Intelligence damage. Cyrion - race changes to dwarf.
All these are in addition to any other effects they may have suffered previously
Mundhi picks up one of her rocks and heads toward the exit and she looks behind her to see if the others are coming too.
Elron asks which bone chips are they s’posed to take and wonders if any old bone would do.
The Twins reason it should be the first one they shot so they point to it
Cyrion pulls out the splinter and walks all over the bone piles hoping to get a clue as to which piece he needs to pick up.
Zeoll remarks what a good idea his friends have and stops singing to urge his comrades forward with the splinter.
Asimov studies the bone fragements
Between Asimov’s studying and Cyrion’s splinter the party realizes that one shard of each skelly looks like a part of a puzzle. Asimov and Cyrion gather the skeleton puzzle pieces together and start assembling to yield an actual key
You also find a neat little pile of treasure in an alcove near where the skeletons formed. What do you do?

Elron doesn't bring up that this key is more complicated than just grabbing a mushroom from the last place they were. He wouldn't be able to find his way back, and for all he knows the door lied to them.
"What's in this pile of treasure?" Elron asks, taking a look.

DM Hugh - The Long Room - 10 Wednesday July 3rd, 2024 1:12:54 AM
OOC: While in the tower we can rp the dwarf race but if the save to evade permanency once out of the tower fails we might need to do different. The good news is the DC to beat to have the effect not be permanent is only 12; Also lets defer any ability point damage till after the party rests next Mundhi thinks about her newest curse Elsron doesn’t bring up that this key was more complicated than just grabbing a mushroom as he wouldn’t be able to find his way back. He asks about the pile of treasure The Twins aren’t much for puzzles and help sort out the loot. Cyrion is confused that he is now a dwarf Zeoll checks out the loot Asimov starts working on identifying the treasure

The Twins frown. "It's possible we were supposed to do the same with the small shrooms." "Rushing forward was a mistake."
Oh well, nothing to do about it now. They'll look for an obvious exit and leave if one presents itself.

Zeoll looks over the loot with satisfaction. "Therre's some good stuff herre. We should keep it all! Good job with the IDs, Asimov!"
"I think it is time for us to move on."

"Yes, thanks, Asimov. Say, friends, may I take this amulet of natural armor?" asks Mundhildur.
"Meanwhile, I can carry a lot of these things in my bag, we can sort through them later." If that seems fine to people, she opens a few sacks, puts items in, and drops the sacks into her Jotunar bag [aka bag of holding]. Anything anyone calls out to hang on to themselves she leaves for them, the rest she stows.
"Let's go, like you said." She moves to the exit. If others look like they are going through, then so does she.
