"Yofiel has a lot of questions about the enemy."She does. And what answers does Delilah give? The dryad knows the living topiaries.
"How big are the topiaries? ________"Get a good rest, Marest? Ready for this new day?"
Can they change shape quickly or slowly? ________
Can they shoot out tendrils? ________
Can they wrap their branches around people to hold them fast? ________
Do they stay rooted in one place, or can they pull up roots and move about?" ________
[from Yofiel's Thursday December 7th, 2023 6:41:49 PM post] In the morning, she shows the party the nets. "We need to practice with these," she announces. "Grim, you are a Topiary," she says with a giggle. "Your arms are branches. The rest of us need to try to toss this net over you, then try to bind you within it. I know you are strong, so try to not break it, but you can struggle a little. I don't think the topiaries will be as strong as you, but we shall see.""So, we were going to practice it with you as the target, then with me as the target. I think that Dapple is the only one who paid attention. Thank you for that," she says to the halfling. "How 'bout the rest of you?"
She has structured it so that between three and six people can each hold the end of a rope. Or three can each hold two rope ends. "Once we toss it over the Topiary, one stands still, and two people run about to wrap from top to bottom the victim within." After people try it on Grim, then Yofi will stand in as the topiary so Grim can give it a try, too.
"Who's our druid? You're our druid!This morning
Who can do it? Siolo can!"
The Psittacosaurus, a resident of the Early Cretaceous period, roamed the regions of what is now Asia.So Ezekiel's ideal lizard is the berry-soaked sleep bait. It is a dinosaur.
Its name, which means parrot lizard, aptly describes its parrot-like beak, which it used to nibble on vegetation. One of its most endearing features is its chubby cheeks, which give it a perpetually curious and friendly expression.
Standing on two legs and measuring up to 6 feet in length, this herbivore had a tail that provided balance and agility. Its large, expressive eyes and gentle demeanor make it easy to see why its a favorite among many.
* Calm Emotions===========
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Area creatures in a 20-ft.-radius spread
Duration concentration, up to 1 round/level (D)
Saving Throw: Will negates; Spell Resistance: yes
This spell calms agitated creatures. You have no control over the affected creatures, but calm emotions can stop raging creatures from fighting or joyous ones from reveling. Creatures so affected cannot take violent actions (although they can defend themselves) or do anything destructive. Any aggressive action against or damage dealt to a calmed creature immediately breaks the spell on all calmed creatures.
This spell automatically suppresses (but does not dispel) any morale bonuses granted by spells such as bless, good hope, and rage, and also negates a bards ability to inspire courage or a barbarians rage ability. It also suppresses any fear effects and removes the confused condition from all targets. While the spell lasts, a suppressed spell, condition, or effect has no effect. When the calm emotions spell ends, the original spell or effect takes hold of the creature again, provided that its duration has not expired in the meantime.]
- How can we help?"Communication may be slow, but with patience we might learn something," she tells her friends and, if they can hear her, the 'Sad Five'.
- What should we know?
- Are there dangers on the next levels?
Taim was right. There is a way to the ground from up here. I was sure he was talking nonsense when he said there had to be a way up for the non-flying animals and plants to have taken root here, I mean we live in a land of gods and wizards so theres a dozen other ways a breeding population could have gotten up here but Ive never been one to refuse to admit when Im wrong. Its a cavern complex, long collapsed at several points, but it would make a really convenient space to expand our operations if we ever needed to. Between Oznif and I we could clear it out fairly easily.
Im thinking about starting a new venture. Exotic pets have become a whole thing among the rich. The main competitor getting people killed is offering money for captured dinosaurs. Its a lot of money for the average person or even a relatively fresh faced adventurer, the kind just experienced enough to feel confident in their skills but not experienced enough to deal with a passing Trex. Not only is it getting people killed here, most of the time any captured animal is on deaths door from the beating taken to capture it and makes a short lived pet. No doubt the man behind the scenes thinks thats a perk not a problem. Well show him. Or her. Whoever.
First dinosaur sold today. Mixed results. Taim was able to train it some, but its still a wild animal and prone to acting like one. Customer was happy, but almost lost fingers because he wanted to treat it like it was a new dog. Made sure he had some hired help who knew what they were doing and taught them how to properly care for them. Well need more work and hands to make this work long term, probably should keep it separate from Cloudhavens main operation. While the core group is able to handle almost any dinosaur itd make the townsfolk nervous, and with good reason. Too many past towns have fallen to the local dangers. Well set up in the tunnels we found, keep the dinosaurs at the bottom and layers of security on top. Best to keep it quiet to prevent a panic.
Construction has started on our dinosaur facility. By which I mean I spread it around that I was going on a business trip and spent the last week using magic to open up and expand things. Shanaera outdid herself designing this place. It should hold most anything we care to capture until it can be trained. Probably best to teleport the product straight to market, this isnt like spice where you ship caravans of the stuff well probably only make a sale or two a month and thats better then trying to ship a Trex or pack of predators through the jungle. Well need a proper druid to make sure everything goes smoothly. They mostly dont care for coin so might have to search hard to find one willing to come out here and help.
Go now: Dapple - Grim - Siolo - Colt"It seems the majority wish to go now with the plan as laid out.

If you go to the Map link provided by our DMs, the 1st item is a cartoon, the 2nd our current map. I copied the 2nd to create a Sandbox, which is now the 3rd item. Why? To make a picture worth 1,000 words. I laid out what Yofiel suggests for our deployment in a visual manner. YOU always choose what to do with your PC (unless you forget to post, in which case whoever subs gets to pick for you). The sandbox starts with Yofi's ideas. Move figures about if you have other ideas. Have fun! Play! It's a model to help each of us work toward group success (or total failure) :-)

"Try and avoid the slime on the floorShe shoots an arrow at the ooze-a-saurus, AC 28 for 9 hp damage. She also notes that this critter looks somewhat cute - but does not regret trying to take it down.
As you can slip and fall on your tush

And work to turn you into mush."
The woman is even stranger. She looks like some kind of elf - probably a drow? But her skin and hair look nothing like any regular elf. Her skin is a deep glistening purple, as if wet. Shes wearing some kind of hide or leather thats poorly maintained exposing many scars that crisscross her body and her weirdly green hair is in a braid thats coming apart and full of loose twigs and dirt. Grim and Yofiels perception let them get a good enough look to notice. Are those gills on her neck? And slight webbing to her hands?
The woman has her head tilted quizzically at the roof where the sentry banged his pot when the party arrives and she lowers her gaze to stare at them with too wide eyes. A low cackle seems to slowly build up and then escape from her, a mad, threatening sound as she grins at the party and says, You must be survivors. I was so sure my pets had killed everyone.
Goblin Seal of Paper Person. When the seal is broken a 2"inch in height paper person figurine appears. By grabbing its head and feet and pulling in the opposite direction, you will cast Enlarge Person on the person holding the paper person figurine. The spell functions like the regular Enlarge Person spell does. When the spell is spent, you have an elongated paper person figurine for your collection & memories of an empowering time! She then turns toward the x,y point of 6",4.5", arrow nocked, rope on right hip, ready to take action next round. "BACKSTEP, SIOLO!"
The spell lasts for four minutes, and Grim (if he takes it) doubles his height and multiplies his weight by 8. He becomes Large. He gains size results of +2 to Strength, -2 to Dexterity, and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to his increased size. The bonus to strength and dexterity effectively balance out so there is no net change to attack rolls. There is a +1 bonus to damage with melee weapons.
"Lord Gargul, I pray first to you. Never have I met you, though I have known two others who claimed to have done so. I thank you for the role you play, the role you earned, in standing in judgment over the souls of those creatures who have souls. You returned to life one of those whom I met, as the other stood as a witness before you and his recently deceased companion. Bless you Lord, that none of us was assigned to meet you this day. Should the time come when we do enter your presence, grant us grace, humility, fortitude, truth, correction, justice, and mercy, as you choose. But again, I am thankful that this was not that day. I wish to honor you in life so long as I might. The bard's hands drop to her sides, and she says, "Selah!"
"Lord Wardd, whom Dapple serves, we know that luck can seem capricious. Though we had more than one moment of concern this day, it seems the odds were tipped in our favor. Part of that was through the choices we made to help one another. Part of that was - what? I know not. Risk... reward... ventures... gains, or losses - luck may play a part in each. Yet, as Ezekiel acknowledges, Lord Ffloy also shares an interest in that realm. Perhaps we, working together, make our own luck. But also, we are grateful insofar as you two divine gentlemen - if that be the proper word - help nudge the flow of events toward the good.
"Lord Domi, Patron of Courage - help us to make courageous choices as we work together. When we experience deep pain, when we draw near to death, it may happen that fear arise in our hearts. Help us to face those fears, and temper them, lest we lose our heart to cowardice. Strengthen our hearts, grant us intestinal fortitude, that we may be overcomers and not succumbers. For strong hearts, we pray, Lord Domi.
"Lady Flower, let love deepen among this group of adventurers. Let us be willing to sacrifice our own comforts for the sake of our friends, when such be required. Knit together, bit by bit, our hearts.
"Lord Pantheon, the woman Maya feels herself just for augmenting the abilities of the great lizards, and has now on four occasions, to our knowledge, sent her modified 'saurs against the people of this area. We feel that justice cries out against her. I do not understand all, nor know all. But guide us as regards the monstrologer, for her actions have led to the death of the innocent. Nevertheless, I perceive she is not without conscience, for I saw in her eyes she was vexed at her role in the death of my young, sweet brother. Grant to us, I pray, in time, to see these things as you might see them.
"Lady Serenbeth, watch over our families, distant though some of ours be from us, and the families of Cloudhaven. Our lives on this plateau are not easy, but close relations help us in many ways. Let us be loyal, and giving, to those to whom we are related. And, for those of us who survive the life of the adventurer, grant some of us the possibility to form families of our own, in due course."
She raises her hands a bit higher. "Lord Alemi, thank you for our well being. I bless you for the little I know of the healing arts, and for my friends who also share in some of these skills, even more so than I."
Then Yofiel lifts up her left hand as she addresses the Great One for the first time in prayer. "Lord Great One - I cannot say I know much of you so far. But our friend Grim tells of how you spoke to members of his tribe. From what he has said, I perceive you also to be among the wise of the heavenly hosts. If you would choose, some time, to speak with us, then I, for one, will keep open my ears. Do bless us, if you so choose."
Though a few may think this is the end of her prayer, it is not quite over. She lowers her left hand, and raises her right heavenward.
"Lady Maab and Lord Eberyon - We are told that you together formed many of the animals of the Wold. Thank you for having done so. Teach us how best we might live in harmony with those we might, and how to defend against those we must, and wisdom to know when, and where, and how to do this."
She raises both hands, "Now, Lords and Ladies above, I pray you hear the petitions of my friends, whether spoken aloud, or quietly whispered from their hearts."
EVERYONE PLEASE READ THISYofiel moves roughly 50 feet from where she was standing next to Colt (and Dapple and the nice doggy Foggy) up and to the right, placing herself at the edge of one pillar of rock, bow out and arrow ready about 25 feet or so away from the dead dinosaur's mouth. Patches faithfully obeys Kaze's order and sticks close beside her.
"All right, there are, to the best of my knowledge, two more spots to clear up." Yofiel points to the area that the map represents in the upper right corner. The torches are laid down there on the map as representative of roughly how Grim might place them. [They are not in reality yet laid, however, until and unless he puts them there.]
"That's the penultimate spot. Penultimate means the next to the last, all right? We check that, clear if necessary, then we head south, the last one." Look at Map 2. The two white arrows point to the last two places we have not cleared (to the best of my knowledge). Right now we head to 'Next to last'.
Once we finish the 'Next to last', we head south to the 'Last'! - Not on our current combat map 3, but rather on map 2, which no doubt our redoubtable DM Jess will provide for us once we take care of the penultimate pile.

"Guide our steps through jungle landsShe laughs lightly, enjoying the weather, and walking with her friends. "Master Ebin Waelius, right? We'll find the plant wizard!"
Grant us wisdom as we plan
Alert we'll be for foe and friend
