Burton will try and purchase some townsman clothes ideally second hand so they don't look to new. He will try and get a job working in the alchemy labs, while playing down his ability in Craft (alchemy) (a bit). When going to the 'interview' he will try and get there early so the most slots are available but not part of a large group of Patchers.
He will remove all his magical items less for his wand which he keeps tucked in it's sleave sheath and his amulet which is inside his shirt.

Paige’s regular kit isn’t particularly distinctive since she normally tries not to stand out too much, choosing to wear comfortable clothes: a cream linen shirt, quilted crimson vest, brown trousers, boots, gloves, and a hooded cloak held closed by a Woldian League of Adventurers Badge. The high Woldian symbol of Domi hangs from her neck on a leather cord, and on colder days a long woven muffler wraps neatly around her neck. Shiny mithril scale mail and a plainer buckler complete the outfit. She is never without her healer’s kit and morningstar.
She wonders if she should remove her WLA pin badge, or maybe just move it from its point of prominence on her cloak to a less obvious spot?

Naithi determines Camalayaas can certainly wear a hat of disguise. It will look like a flyguard once transformed. It is likely that Camalayaas will have to blend in with other draft animals, but should be available at a moment's notice given the need.
The party discusses preparing equipment and clothing. You recall Garrick stating, "...every employee wears a company-branded jumpsuit..." It is likely that Pyramid Industries implements a dress code. You could certainly go do some preliminary scouting to see how the employees are dressed, and what equipment they carry.
Is there anything else you would like to prepare?

Like Burton, Fingers will acquire some unobstrusive garments - a plain tunic and breeches, not too new, if he can find them in his size. He'll wear his belt pouch containing spell components and (if they fit) his lockpicks.
He'll try to conceal his Wand of Mage Armor in a sleeve or pants leg, or maybe inside the back of his shirt. He'll ask his friends to tell him how well it works. Sleight of Hand: Take 20 = 26.
He'll also practice using charcoal to darken his horns and some sort of lighter material on his body hair, just in case someone out there might recognize the Patcher Minotaur. Again, he'll see what the gang thinks. Disguise: Take 20 = 20

In the time left before the job fair, or whatever is happening in ‘two days’ Paige works on crafting her resume. She uses a nice sheet of parchment and takes care with her handwriting. She keeps it skills based, and is vague about where she acquired her experience - she is pretty young after all! She visits the Crypt and asks Zolbar if she could use him as a reference, if references are required, then visits Sampsons and does the same with the owner/operator.
Feeling ready for the encounter with Pyramid Industries recruiting team, she waits for the appointed day, and heads off early for wherever the event is taking place.

He knows they wouldn't want a gnome for a guard, even though he could probably do the job better than any that they had. He would just apply for a laborer position, but ask about advancement within the company. He had a good head for numbers after all. Management wasn't out of the question!
On the day they'd chosen to interview he got up early, like everyone else, had a nice breakfast and headed out to apply.

(OOC - though Kwarsk goes by but one name amongst the Patchers, he'll use a seemingly random Dwarven name (actually a childhood nickname, "Gimli") when the interviewers ask him for his name. Kwarsk has a lot of guard experience and is wise enough to know that being a tough Dwarf of few words is the right play here. He's also skilled in Sense Motive, which he will use not to lie when probed, but to deflect, obfuscate, and otherwise not let on the "con.")

Having a resume for such a job seems excessive, but he'll ask Berem to have the Cathedral confirm his cover story as someone who did heavy lifting and odd jobs for them. (He's technically asking them to lie, and he'll understand if Berem declines.)

Rhys walks past Pyramid Industries and spies some of the employees. They wear blue jumpsuits of light cotton, a leather belt, and simple leather shoes. Guards sport a wooden baton at their belt and a yellow armband. The jumpsuits have the Pyramid Industries logo on the back. Every employee is dressed the same, whether small, medium, or large.
Lothlo inquires with a secretary, who tells him that the company is currently hiring laborers and guards. Some laborers are Grade 1, and will primarily move boxes and barrels. Grade 2 will add and mix ingredients in cats. Grade 3 will be supervisors over other laborers.
On the day of the hiring, the party arrives at Pyramid Industries. It is a sprawling campus of two-story brick buildings with a high stone wall. The Pyramid Industries logo is displayed on banners at regular intervals on the wall. A gaggle of hopefuls stand in a crowd at the front gate. A whistle sounds and a small access door in the double-wide wooden gate opens. A middle-age human man with thinning hair and a weary look steps in front of the crowd. "Welcome to Pyramid Industries. 'Better Than Nature!'" He sings the jingle in a tired voice. He gestures to a small wooden box by the door. "Please abandon all weapons, mundane or magical, in the security receptacle. You may also return any weapons to your place of residence. We will enter the facilities in five minutes."

If employees were armed a minor argument could escalate to a deadly encounter. Really not a bad policy. He watches the crowd for a bit to see if anyone "abandons" any weapon or if they just leave.

Lothlo leaves any weapons and magical gear at home, not wanting to do anything that could jeopardize his chance at getting hired. Those hauling boxes and barrels may have greater reason to move around, however the sharpshooter knows he doesn't have the ideal build for that particular job. His sharp eyes may make him a good pick for a guard, and combined with his diplomacy skill he may also make a good supervisor. A guard might have more access to move around, but perhaps a supervisor will have more opportunities to learn about the scrap.
Taking advantage of the time they have waiting in line, Lothlo goes over possible questions he might be asked and what answers will better position him to get a roll that will be beneficial to their investigation.

The crowd is small, about 20 individuals are ahead of you in line, and each leaves any visible weapons with a bored clerk at a check in table. You can pick them up on the way out. No one is searched, but you suspect one or two may have a small hidden blade. Some of these people appear to be down on their luck, looking for any work they can find. A few of them seem competent, and have an air of expecting a large salary for their skills about them.
OOC- you may attempt disguise, stealth or other appropriate checks if you would like to try and hide any items.
Another clerk records the names that are given. (Is everyone giving fake names?) After everyone is checked in, the entire crowd is ushered into a large room. There are two separate areas of seating. The older gentleman introduces himself as Thaddeus. Please join the seating on this side of the room he gestures to the right, if you are interested in labor positions. Please go to the other side gesturing again, this time to the left, if you are interested in guard positions. Our production has been reaching new heights, and most of you will be accepted to join our team if interested. The details will be explained shortly.

Please note that at this time, you do not recognize anyone who may have seen you before in previous dealings with Pyramid Industries. What you see is what you get! Other than trimming her bangs (herself) Paige doesn’t alter her appearance. She has a broad-shouldered athletic build. Tip-tilted green eyes and pointed ears hint at the redhead’s elven antecedents. She tries not to stand out too much, choosing to wear comfortable clothes: a cream linen shirt, quilted crimson vest, brown trousers, boots, gloves, and a hooded cloak.
The cleric has left her weapons at home, but has brought her healers kit. The WLA pin badge that normally fastens her cloak, is now pinned to the breast of her quilted vest. With the rolled parchment resume in one hand, she moves to follow the group finding seats on the left - for guard work - trying to size up the competition, focussing less on those down-on-their-luck, and more on those who appear confident. Lothlo, or rather Beri, joins the group of laborer hoping to get a supervisor roll. He made sure to dress appropriately according to what he learned during his reconnaissance. Since he is normally wearing a hooded cloak, the sharpshooter doesn't have to do much to be unrecognizable, though he made sure to use some product in his hair to make it neat and noticeably darker than normal just in case.
He doesn't bring any weapons or magical items, he doesn't feel it's worth risking a useful position if someone with a sharp eye notices him breaking the rules during the interview.

Naithi retrieves the magic hat of disguise from her pack, holding it up to examine its simple, unassuming appearance. With a mischievous grin, she places the hat atop Camalayaas' head, watching as the intelligent rabbit's form shifts and transforms. In moments, Camalayaas stands before her as a majestic warhorse, her coat a rich bay color and her mane and tail long and flowing, giving her the appearance of a seasoned traveler.
Next, Naithi turns her attention to her own disguise. She selects a combination of her casual attire and slave rags, carefully layering the garments to create a convincing ensemble. Over her well-worn tunic and breeches, she dons a small wood shield and a worn cloak, its edges frayed and stained with the dust of many roads. She completes the look by strapping a sword belt around her waist and tucking a few daggers into her wrist sheath.
With a fluid motion, Naithi draws two wickedly sharp daggers from concealed sheaths, their blades gleaming in the dim light. She spins them expertly in her hands, a predatory smile playing across her lips as she imagines the surprise on her enemies' faces when they realize the depth of her skill.
After a moment's consideration, Naithi decides that posing as a guard would grant her greater freedom of movement and access to information. She straightens her posture, adopting a confident, authoritative air as she approaches the city gates.
As she nears the clerk Naithi showily removes knives from her wrist sheath (similar to the wrist sheath in Assassin's Creed), making sure people know she knows how to use them.
I am known as Raven Blackthorne, a skilled sellsword from the northern lands. This is my faithful companion, Shadow,she says, patting Camalayaas' neck affectionately. The disguised rabbit snorts softly, playing along with the ruse.

He's made his hair more unkempt than usual, and changed his beard braiding significantly both in style, and to lower the apparent craftsdwarfship so his common appearance raises no red flags.

With weapons and horses(and rabbits!) left outside, people take seats, separating out into the two groups. None of you notice anyone paying any particular attention to any of the Patchers. Either your disguises are working well, or you have not yet been recognized.
Rhys, Paige, Naithi and Kwarsk settle in with the first group, the guards. This group is addressed by a gruff half-orc bearing several scars. He looks over the group for a few moments, long enough to have some people shifting in discomfort in their seats. If yous can fight, or are willing to learn the basics, you can be guards. He waits, and two of those present, humans who have the look of farmers about them get up and decide to leave.
Huh. Good Riddance. Anyone else? He waits again, giving others a chance to quit. Allright then. To start out, everyone will be assigned to caravan duty. And we'll see what yer made of. Come back tomorrow, early. And bring weapons if you own em. If not, we will provide what you need. There's a list over there, sign it if you need training. He points to a sheet on the table, a clerk standing nearby to assist with the writing for those who need it.
Zarsellet, Lothlo, Burton, and Muuru meanwhile, take seats with the second group, indicated for labor. An older gentleman, wearing a blue hat in the latest style, addresses the group. Ahem. Yes, you are here seeking jobs. We pay well, for unskilled work. All you need is to be willing to sweat a little. We have several areas, including loading and unloading caravans, stone cutting, and moving stuff around that the alchemists need moved. That area is a tiny bit dangerous, but explosions are usually pretty rare. Come back tomorrow, early, and be dressed for the work. Bring along whatever you might think you need. He motions to the nearby table, indicating everyone should sign up for their preferred work area. A clerk stands nearby, ready to assist those who need help with writing.
Both supervisors seem willing to entertain any questions from those present.

He hopes that his experience puts him towards the top of the list for an open supervisor roll in this area.

Naithi listens intently as the scarred half-orc addresses the group, her eyes narrowing slightly as she assesses him. She notes the way he carries himself, the confidence in his stance and the authority in his voice. This is a warrior who has seen his share of battles, and she respects that.
When the two farmers opt to leave, Naithi suppresses a smirk. She, or at least Raven Blackstone, has no patience for cowards or those unwilling to face danger head-on. In her line of work, hesitation can mean the difference between life and death.
As the half-orc waits for any others to quit, Raven remains standing tall and proud, her chin lifted defiantly. She has no intention of backing down from this challenge. In fact, she relishes the opportunity to prove her worth and test her skills against whatever threats they might encounter.
When the half-orc announces that they will be assigned to caravan duty, Raven nods curtly, a fierce determination burning in her eyes. She knows that protecting the caravan will be no easy task, but she is more than up to the challenge.
Raven asks if they should be prepared for the typical attacks of opportunity, or if there is something in particular that might be targeted with the potential to attract more then the usual brightened briggands. She then confirms that she can ride her combat trained mount before picking up her weapons on the way out.

Zarsellet inquires about the alchemy work. Some of it will be moving supplies around, but the alchemists may need other types of help. They will probably train a few people that show promise to help with the brewing.
Burton also asks about the alchemy. (see answer above)
Lothlo asks about the stonecutting. Good! We can always use more experienced workers in that area.
Rhys heads out, and waits for the team back at the Patch
Kwarsk shows he is eager to start work. After leaving, he can take a trip through the Skull market and find what he needs. (please send a mail with the details to Tanner and me)
Fingers tries to convince the farmers to opt for labor instead, but they politely decline and head out. He signs up for the general labor,
Naithi asks about the potential dangers of the caravan guard might face. The half orc just grunts and nods towards the door. If ye haven't got the stomach for it, best head out now. You can bring your own mount if you have one. He appraises her more carefully than before. Then grunts and nods.
Paige asks how long the caravan trips will last. YUP! a bit of both actually. Some of the trips take a few days.
If there are no more questions, the team can head out, stopping along the way for shopping or to make any other expected preparations.
At the Patch, several heroes can help forge some 'horseshoe print shoes' in a few hours time for Camalayas.

Paige returns to the group’s headquarters.
”Looks like we might be split up going forward.” she announces when the group is all together. She accepts a cup from Zarsellet and whitens it liberally with some of Kwarsk’s ‘white gold’.
”I’m not sure how guarding a caravan will get me any closer to a scrap of torn parchment, but you never know! At least any of us on guard duty have a chance at learning how wide spread Pyramid Industries’ influence is in the City and on the Plateau.”
Paige is hoping she’ll be assigned guard work covering local city deliveries, so she can stay in the city and share what she knows with her companions after their shifts.
Paige will show up with her complete kit on her first day of work - including her pack with all her gear - since she might be sent abroad.

"This will probably take a couple of weeks if we are careful. I doubt any but the most trusted of his managers know anything about the piece of the scroll!"
The next morning Zarsellet dresses in regular street cloths again. No weapons or magic items. Once he knows the procedures for where he will be working this might change. But not yet.

Rhys purchases a disguise kit from one of the vendors in the market. It should provide him some advantage from being recognized not only by Duncan’s people, but also by any locals that might give them away unintentionally.
The next morning the elf colours his hair a darker colour and once again scuffs his boots and ensures a layer of soot can be found on his pants and shirt. He wears his mithral concealed beneath his shirt and cloak and wraps his sword in an old blanket which he ties across his back with a length of chord. There is little trace of the normally clean and proud elven fighter that most would recognize.

I think right now the important thing is to blend in and not do anything suspicious. He heads to bed early so he can prepare his spell's before heading off to work. He dresses in his townsman outfit, adds a few coins to his pocket, tucks his amulet into his shirt and a silver ring with a red gem stone on to his finger. He then heads off to his new employment.

As the group talks Naithi offers the others use of her pipe. When puffed, it always produces the smoke of the famed Humble's Ford tobacco, but no tobacco ever needs to be placed into the pipe.

Kwarsk arrives back at the Patch with a Masterfully crafted cold iron Dwarven Waraxe, a worn chain shirt, and a heavy wooden shield.
Noting any looks from the assembled Patchers, he says, "Just some gear I'll be comfortable with, but won't show up under Detect Magic, and my stone tower shield is perhaps too unique to be ignored at this point. It's a risk not having a magic weapon with me, but I have... learned certain techniques... from the Monks of Pantheon of late to cover that situation," he finishes with his trademark half-smile.
Kwarsk stows his shopping results in his room and returns to the kitchen, scrounging up bits of meat, bread, and white gold. He chows down while listening to the others.
Afterwards he looks over the worn chain shirt, eventually selecting a spot for his WLA badge to be covered by a tunic over the chain shirt, but the tunic will be movable to show the badge if needed.
Kwarsk makes sure to get a good night's sleep, and then in the morning will adopt his modified gear and appearance.
(OOC - not having received a DM objection to the items purchased at the market without a Catacombs ticket (all are non-magical), I presume Kwarsk has them.
As for Kwarsk's magical gear - the only things he's leaving at the Patch (or the Black Cathedral if the Patch is subject to random burglars while we're gone) are as follows: waraxe +1; chain shirt +1; stone tower shield +1)

Weeks? Fingers looks at the stuff he used to color his body hair. He hadn't thought that he'd need to do this for such a long time. And its too late to do without it now. But having to apply it every day?
Hmm. Maybe not.
After dinner he retires to his lab and works on a version that will last for at least three days per application. It may take a day or two to perfect it, but he can live with that.
OOC: Besides his plain clothes, Fingers will wear his brooch under his shirt, and a belt pouch with spell components. Most of these are ordinary things, but since a pouchful of this stuff looks like the contents of a little boy's pocket, he'll try to wrap them in a way that makes them even less conspicuous.
He won't bring the lockpicks on the first day, nor his Ring of Protection. If someone does cast a Detect Magic his way, he can explain the ring or the brooch, but both may be stretching it.

He darkens his hair, adds a hint of a scar above one eye and makes sure his boots a cloak, shirt, and cloak are somewhat soiled, perhaps as if he was sleeping in an alley or an abandoned building. He leaves his bow but takes his sword, wrapped in an old blanket and trussed in chord to make a makeshift scabbard. His mithral armor is concealed beneath his shirt. He leaves his WLA pin back at the Patch. (Disguise = 11). He hopes his clumsy attempts at disguise will suffice.
The elf arrives a few minutes before 8:00 via a circuitous route.

The alchemy building is busy, with several people brewing up batches of potions over small cauldrons. Most of the assignments there involve the more menial labor, moving components around, fetching supplies for the brewers, and cleaning up after each batch is completed.
The guard training meanwhile, is not as robust as you may have hoped. Kreth, the previously met orc, runs the recruits through a few basic combat exercises for a few hours. He seems pleased enough, but those experienced among you suspect most of the recruits wouldn't last very long in a tough fight. He pauses the training around midday and everyone sighs in relief to stop and have a meal.
During the break, Sophie, the elderly woman running the alchemy shop points at Zarsellet, Lothlo, Burton, and Muuru with a pointed, and somewhat crooked finger. But rather than accusing, she is simply pointing Allright, you there, and you, and you and..........yes you.(pointing at each in turn and Muuru at the last) I need you to go out and pick up some supplies. Here's a list, and some gold. Return with the supplies by morning so we don't fall behind schedule. Then she points again, over towards the training area. Oh, and take some guards with you so you don't get hurt.
Checking in with Kreth, he just grunts, apparently used to such demands from the alchemy shop. Ok yous, go on along with the scrubbers and carry the gold so they don't lose it. Make sure to protect what they buy and get all the supplies back here undamaged. Kreth pointed to: Rhys, Paige, Naithi and Kwarsk

Zarsellet works "hard" in the alchemy building. Actually it is boring work so he is frequently humming a tune while he listens and follows orders. Maybe he should learn a little about crafting alchemical stuff? But they don't have him mixing, yet....
When they pick him and his friends to shop it seems a bit odd. But, when life gives you, Nightshade? He decided to wait until they are outside to ask Burton what something like powdered nightshade would be used for. "Certainly boss."

His nerves are on edge as he ponders, Have they identified us all and sent us to be executed so soon? Perhaps I'm overthinking it...
Kwarsk waits for the group to gather and then grunts at the four laborers, "Which way to the shop?"
He monitors the immediate area for ambush while waiting for someone to give the destination.

Naithi watches with growing suspicion as the alchemist singles out the laborers from their group and sends them on an errand to purchase nightshade. Her instincts prickle with unease, and she exchanges a meaningful glance with her companions. This feeling is heightened when their group is singled out to guard them.
Naithi's mind races as she tries to determine whether the selection of the Patchers is merely coincidence or part of a larger scheme. She closes her eyes briefly, reaching the other party's tone of voice and facial expressions.
Got it Boss. She climbs on Camalayaas saddle and checks her blades.

The team heads out to start the errands. No specifics are given as to where the items will be placed upon your return, and no one offers Burton a key.
So far, there has been nothing obvious to indicate that any of you have been recognized. Perhaps the organization is large enough, that there is some safety hiding within those numbers. As you head out, any concerns of why you were all picked may be allayed, at least a little bit, by the fact that no one seems to be paying any attention to any of you.
The powdered nightshade.....there are potentially several places you would be able to acquire this first item within the City. With no particular choice coming to mind, the Skull Market might be a good place to start.
Once away from the warehouse, Zarsellet wonders what the ingredient could be used for.
-The heroes can decide which way to go the Skull Market(or decide to try somewhere else instead. The Woldipedia entry for the City can be used by all players) -the heroes may try kn arcana or craft: alchemy checks to learn more about the nightshade -the heroes may determine a traveling order if interested

Paige pokes Muuru in the ribs to get the taur’s attention. “Remember the herbalist we encountered the first time we went to the Skull Market? The excitable gnome who tried to sell us a love potion? He had a number of herbs and potions for sale, though he did get a little excitable when I asked about the drow sleeping potion we were investigating at the time.”
When the shoppers and their guard escorts are well away from the Pyramid Industries complex, the cleric will explain to the party’s newer members how there was a bit of a kerfuffle in the market when a thief attacked her and Rhys cut him down to size. ”Kwarsk, you might remember…”
The red-head suggests that might be a place to shop for the ingredients on the list, but adds it might be better if zarsellet, Burton, Lothlo and Naithi handle any transactions with the gnome, since he wasn’t too happy with Paige.

I've never been in Skull Market, am still fairly new in town, and have never been seen without my red cloak. I'm happy to make the purchase. However, if this is a common behavior for the alchemy shop it may be more suspicious if I go alone when they are expecting a group of eight.
Even if we are noticed, nobody would think twice bout people getting a steady job to pay the bills. There isn't any history that would be a specific problem related to our investigation is there?
With no weapons on him, Lothlo would choose a traveling order in the middle of the group, protected by the guards.

Raven (Naithi) remains seated on the back of Shadow (Camalayaas), protecting the money and prepared for any danger that might by lurking. She is confident that with her cowl up she shouldn't be recognized and her best way to look inconspicuous would be to ask just like a regular body guard and keep an eye out for trouble.

Kwarsk, no sane cutpurse is going to approach a mob of eight, especially when half of them are armed guards. But I think going into a shop as a party is pretty suspicious, so maybe we can split up.
When they get to the Skull Market (or whatever shopping district they choose), he says Someone else can take the gnome's shop. "Raven", join me; I feel safest with you along. And goes to find a likely shop.

The Skull Market fills the plaza, extending east towards the black gate. Booths line up along the pathways as if set up by drunken sailors. Vendors of all races for all strange trinkets, even more strange than the catacombs.
The place is its' usual hectic amount of activity, with vendors welling just about everything(legal) that you can imagine. Trinkets, potions, clothing, weapons, food(lots of good smelling stuff floating in the air) and alchemy supplies.
The 'excitable' gnome is present, and is trying to sell a potion that makes you 'taller' to a pair of doubting halflings.
On the way there, Zarsellet looks over the list and feels the group should be able to carry everything, but a cart could be useful.
Paige recalls the gnome, and feels other might be better suited to talking to him.
Burton looks over the list and feels that several of the items are unusual, he also wonders where the shop gets most of its' supplies.
Rhys feels the team should be especially wary of being recognized in this area.
Lothlo offers to meet with the seller, as he is less likely to be recognized.
Kwarsk suggests spreading out and not remaining bunched up.
Naithi remains on guard, and keeps watch for any suspicious activity.
Muuru looks over the list, these ingredients are familiar but do not seem common enough to make items he already knows. He also suggests splitting off and checking separate vendors.

(OOC: Woldpedia is not accessible, so I am unable to access any maps of Plateau City and specifically of Nightmare Quarter, so the shops of Skull Market that might be accessible are unknown. Would the DM be able to provide a list from which we can choose?)
Paige will follow Burton around the shops and stalls of the market, but since she is playing the role of ‘guard’ she will mostly stand around with one hand resting on the pommel of her morningstar, trying to look the part whilst keeping her eye on her friend.

Arriving in the Skull Market Zarsellet watches the shoppers as well as the merchants. Interactions such as this was always interesting to him, kind of like watching an audience while performing.... He stays with Burton figuring that the mage would know more about such ingredients than he does. He chokes off a laugh at the idea of a potion to make one self taller being pushed by a gnome. Halflings and gnomes shared the correct size, so why would they want to change it? He does not interrupt.

Burton moves around amongst the alchemy stalls looking for the required ingredients. He talks to the various stall holders and inspects the ingredients. He looks for the best price and purchase what is needed. If they split up Burton will start at the top of the list and work halfway down. The other group can start at the bottom and work up.
Between purchases Burton will talk with Paige & Zar to see if they have found out anything.
