JK says: Yes there are 3 gems because their are 3 of us. And also because it is easier to conceal 2 gems and three pp each than it is to conceal 2000 gold coins. I made them different for a nice description. It doesn't matter who gets which one. Nonam took the blue one, an emerald, and 3 pp. He gave Jus the red one, an emerald, and 3 pp. He gave Gareth the purple one, an emerald, and 3 pp. And I'm not flashing gems out on the trash level, so don't say that I am. Hopefully I had the sense to do it back in the other town. I didn't take off 10% it was about 5% but I made a series of charisma checks, and I also (believe it or not) didn't give the group anywhere near the value that I rolled the items to be. They got the Catacombs deal on selling their stuff. So if you think that I gave too much, then you can come up with a better amount.
Jerry says: It will be fine. Thanks JK.
JK says: Why did you mix a Swiss Family Robinson reference with Robinson Crusoe? Crusoe was much cooler than the Robinsons and deserves to be set apart.
Jerry says: uh....both have Robinson in them and both are about being marooned on an island? Crusoe was cooler? Bahaa!! Nothing is cooler than the Swiss Family Robinson's treehouse!!! I've been in the great replication of this wondrous structure at Disneyland, which was visited recently by our dear friend John, and know of its greatness. If I ever win the Publisher's Clearinghouse, I'm going to build me one as a part of my house!
Tony says: Hey, Jerry, I don't know why you didn't get my turn. I sent it on the 28th. I guess aol just lost it or something...I'll see if you get this one.
In my other turn ( the missing one) I asked for a description of the three. If you can get them to me, I think it will help my interacting with them.
Jerry says: I'll put your note here, so the others can see your request and describe themselves.
John says: I will be able to respond once per day from work. Maybe twice if I check as soon as I get here and before I leave (that would be around 4pm and 11pm your time).
Unfortunately, I do not have my character sheet readily accessible... maybe in the next few days I can find the copy on 3.5" disk. I eventually need to know what Jus has in items and experience, but have no problem playing him without the details. If you want Jus to continue spouting of the knowledge he has in the last two turns you sent me, you'll have to add them to my turn replies. Obviously I don't have the details you have supplied.
I'll pick up in a few turns, after I read the past turns and figure out the flow of things. I'll write a quick message letting you know when I'm ready to step in.
I'm not sure if I asked either David or Joey if they want to play. I sent the last turn (Turn 5) to them asking, with a comment to write you if they are interested.
Later, jrk
Jerry says: I'll get those turns to you with a copy of your character sheet asap. I'll first send you a copy of your character sheet as it was at 1st level. Then you can read the emails and get the character updated according to what you read. Treasure, xp, etc. will be below the line on the various turns.
Jerry says: I usually run the turns starting about 9pm each evening and sent out the turn around 9:30 or 10:00pm when I'm done. You'll just have to see if the turn arrives during the early afternoon as I predict it will. Then you can just respond and the next turn arrive the next day. We'll get through the glitches as we go on.
Jerry says, I heard from David and have added him to the mailing list. Once again, should we get up beyond 7 players, we will need to decide, keeping in mind who is playing, whether we should keep one group, or divide into two with JK Dming one group and me playing in it.
JK says: A bogabigabugabegabagagipatag. (Why I don't know.)
Jerry says: I'm in the process of catching up John. David has decided to join the game. That gives us six players. JK, hang in there in the bull pen bud. It's taking 30 minutes to an hour to handle all the game related email each night. If things get busy I'll need you to jump in. David is an ex-player of this campaign from way back in the first year. I sent character info to him tonight. David, send in the character information to JK. He's helping me with characters and stuff. As soon as he approves your character, we'll role-play your entrance.
See yall tomorrow,
Jerry
David says: I'll take the purple gem, one emerald, and 3 pp. They weigh much less than the other stuff. I now 2nd level fighter soon to be 3rd. Jerry, can you send me new weapon THACOs and stuff. I'll forward an updated character sheet today.
Jerry says: Fine David. Jus will take the one that's left.
Jerry says: It is taking me over 30 minutes a night to do a turn right now with five players and we're adding a sixth. I've worked out a deal with JK for us to spell each other from time to time so without notice any turn may be handled by either one of us. I can see that I would get burned out on this real quick.
Jerry says: When I lost the hard drive on my computer last fall, I lost all the locations and personages in The Floating City. I have the location names, but that is all. This is one reason I wanted to come here, to recreate it all. So I have a request. I keep all locations and NPC's on cards in the "card file" program that comes with Windows 3.1. Running the turn is PLENTY for JK and I to do. I need a volunteer or group of them to do this for me. I can send the program if necessary along with the Plateau City card file as an example as to how to do them. I'd appreciate any help you feel any of you can contribute. I also understand how busy you all are. Let me know if you are interested or willing.
Characters to enter and expand on: Clarence, Theory. Locations to enter and expand on: The Inn Of Kings, The Peacock Inn, The Glowworm Inn, The Giggling Ghost Inn.
You can see how this will expand and fast.
Here's hoping you all have a great Friday,
Jerry
Great week of playing this week guys. I can't wait to see what happens next.
John, are you out there? I haven't heard from you for a few days.
David has submitted his character and JK has approved it with a few changes. He should be ready to join us soon.
Remember that if we go to combat....sometime....that you send what you want to accomplish in one round. You may send "alternate plans" saying if this happens I do this and if this happens I do that.....etc. I will do all dice rolls and determine initiative. Try to keep AD&D terms like THACO etc. out of your wording above the line. If you feel you need to explain something to me with game terms, do it below the line. If it is private, please note that it is for the DM's eyes only.
If everyone would somehow include a description of your character for the sake of the new players on Monday, I'd appreciate it.
Please respond to this turn by Monday evening. Thanks.
Jerry
Jerry says: Keith and Tony. Go back and re-read the last few turns. You two never said you had entered the inn. I had placed you around the corner from the entrance. Sorry if I created any confusion. I did my best to put you where you wanted to be this turn. -----------------------------| 1 | | 3 | 2 | | 4 | J | <-------locations last turn N = | G = | | --| F | ----------------------------- T t
T=Talvik t= Tiburon
Jerry says: That was David's entrance.
Jerry says: The next two turns will be done by JK. Go ahead and send the turn to me. He has my password.
Jerry says: John, if you're ready, you can go ahead and begin playing Jus as of now. I won't need the updated sheet for a few days.
Simon says: Throw a pie at LILASEVEN....hehe
Jerry says: JK and I had pondered me rolling up a character so that I had one to do things with to push the tempo like I have with Jus. Therefore, prepare for the entrance of Onrad.
Jerry says: See yall tomorrow.
JK says- Onrad will be Jerry's character. He and I both liked having a character to fill in conversations and help steer the party. So now that John is with us again and is resuming control of Jus, Jerry is bringing in Onrad. I hope he likes his entrance.
Jerry says: Oh, Yeah. That's exactly how I wanted to enter. Tell them JK! Tell them how you conveniently didn't get my entrance so you made up one of your own and had me bump down the stairs just to get me back for having one of your characters enter that way.
JK says: The entrance of one of my characters to which Jerry is referring was much worse than what I did to him. My brand new character came running into a room filled with nasty undead. Then he slipped and fell. The undead then attacked me. As I recall, I was surrounded, paralyzed, and killed. Never even got to do anything except make a feeble escape attempt. Now who's nicer me or him?
Jerry says: JK and I are still working out the details of passing the DM job back and forth. Please be patient with us. It will smooth out after a week or so.
JK says: It's back to Jerry tomorrow.
John says: Now JK... I'm sure you're exaggerating about Jerry's handling of your entrance. Jerry is a very competent DM, not prone to unreasonably lashing out at his players. I'm sure the module stated the need for a Dex check upon entering that room.
Jerry says: Yeah, that must have been it. {evil grin}
Jerry says: No turn from Tony. He must have had a busy day.
Jerry says: We'll see ya'll tomorrow.
John says: Not quite a blond joke, but humorous nonetheless...
I'm not offended by all the dumb blond jokes because I know I'm not dumb... and I also know that I'm not blond. - Dolly Parton
Jerry says: JK, remove LILASEVEN from the address macro. She doesn't get the idea of D&D at all sad to say.
Jerry says: Keith, call me tomorrow afternoon after school. I should be home by 4:30 or so. I'm ready to get these campaign folders done with. I've recounted and have decided that we need to make 15 folders. There are 7 color maps and circa 30 black and white maps. The color ones might look better on special paper of some kind. The black and white ones should print fine on regular paper. In fact, they should print out fine on my computer if you can scan them. Call me and we'll discuss what's appropriate and how much it will cost. Scanning and printing should be alot cheaper than copying them at Kinko's. The quality should be better when we printing them, I assume.
Jerry says: Kids, this means that we'll be able to get campaign folders to Keith, Tony, and David asap. Remember that it costs money for us to do this. If you can please prepare to help us out with about $10.00 to cover ink for the printer, copies done at Kinko's, nice paper for the color pages, Keith's costs for scanning and printing, etc. I have new players in the local group who need folders as well.

Side stories
<David, please send me your whole idea as far as Stephanus and healers are concerned. I'll then email you back with any adaptations that need to be made to fit into the Woldian campaign.>
Jer, I really didn't have any further ideas about who Stephanus is or what exactly he is doing. From the description given in the 'scroll' during the last turn, it sounds like he is with the sage. Whether Stephanus was in trouble with the law, or helping a friend with an illness, or a missing family member, or whatever -- Flaust isn't aware of the circumstances. She is only pursuing his path because Stephanus was from 'the country', and she was concerned about his naivete in 'the big city'. Her background is farm life, and she remembers her first encounters with city folk...
The Healers can be a subset of any religious organization. They are basically the doctors in this society, strongly following a form of the Hippocratic Oath, and refusing to take a life except in the most extreme of circumstances. The small order that she comes from focuses on research -- she is one of the few in this institution that regularly travels to obtain herbs, information, etc. -- she was the most qualified to go after Stephanus. Her areas of expertise are Dwarven, Human, and Halfing healing.
I do not plan on adding any more details to Stephanus -- I was attempting clarify his importance to me as a fellow healer only, in response to Tiburon when he stated <Who is he (Stephanus) and what can he do for you?>. If you would like me to develop any areas in the campaign, please let me know the appropriate background, so I can avoid inconsistencies.
David
David says to David : Hey, David, that last line spoken by Mitchifer sounds familiar...
Mitchifer sounds alot like Lucifer. Hmmm.
Tony says: Sorry about missing the past few turns...I tried to get on in the evening and it wouldn't happen....I tried for about a half hour straight....and got frustrated, and turned off the 'puter.....But I'm back.
Jerry says: Tony, do you have the AOL add on program that give you the 9 times redial on both numbers? It helps me.
David says: Jerry, the best time for me for on-line play is Saturday morning, or Saturday evening.
Jerry says: We'll poll everyone when we're ready to go and see what turns up.
David says to David : Hey, David, that last line spoken by Mitchifer sounds familiar...
Mitchifer sounds alot like Lucifer. Hmmm
Jerry says: ....and looks and laughs like Santa Claus....and has little elves....hehe.
Muhahahaha!!!!
JK gets the next two turns.
Introduction of The Jericho: JK and I have always wanted to run a truly creative bar fight. This is difficult to do in a "live" game either around a table or online due to the fact that everyone is limited by only one person being able to say what they are doing at a time. However, in an email game, the DM and players have time to sit back and brainstorm resulting in truly creative situations. Much fun! The turns are running 2 hours during the bar fight. We're ready for it to be over after the two weeks it takes to complete it. I come up with the idea of adding two more DM's about this time. Use the talent you have, right?
Hey David. I'll be coming to Atlanta soon. I'll let you know when.
Didn't get a Turn from Jus this round. Probably because I sent the last one out a little late or maybe because John lives in a different hemisphere.
JK says- Hey John, I've got a question -What kind of TV do you get in the Marshall Islands? Do you have to have a satellite or do you just have local programming? Is there even local programming? -These are the important questions. Wait till we ask the unimportant ones.
Talvik says: here you go! Hey Jerry, where did you get that redial program? did you get it from AOL? If so, where?....I'd like to get it. -the redial program came from aol. it lets you dial in 9 times on each line automatically- so 18 times total. go to keyword (ctrl+k) 'redial' and you should find it.
John says: Well, lets send this one out a little earlier. At 10:16 my time; I've been sending around 1-3pm my time. Don't know why you aren't receiving.
Jerry says: I think it was a one time glitch, John. It happens to everyone occasionally as you know.
John says: By chance, does AOL go down for daily maintenance, and I am sending at an inappropriate time?
Jerry says: AOL goes down irregularly for maintenance. Usually during the night and early morning, say 3:00-6:00AM for an hour or so. But as far as I know, it only does so with need maybe once or twice a month.
John says: Let me know if you receive both (this and the one sent about 11am).
Jerry says: I was in a hurry this morning and didn't notice the time or address. I'll have more time this evening to do that. I'll check my archives and get back to you on this tonight, John.
JK says: Oops I forgot to send a turn last time. Didn't think about responding to my own turn
Jerry says: Yeah, that is a weird feeling. I noticed that as well.
David says: Did I understand the dialog correctly? I see two of the coins, one of which we gave to the barkeep, the other Flaust has which the barkeep wants us to take and use again.?!?.
Jerry says: Yes. One coin which was on Loren's scroll allowed you to enter and paid for your stay there and your exit. The other coin was given by a stranger named Domic to Flaust the Cleric in response to Nonam's telling of The Three's adventure. It should be able to return you to this place sometime in the future when you want to return.
Jerry says: See you all tomorrow.
Tony says: Keith is out of town for the next 2 days and asked if I could put in his turn for him. I hope I'm not too late....Havin' fun, Tony
Jerry says: You got lucky. I couldn't log on to send the turn and had to do so now in the middle of the night. :)
David to Jerry: I'm still wanting to find out the address to mail you the $10 for the campaign folder.
Jerry says: David, wait till you get the folder and then my address will be inside. Keith has my folder right now and the scanner he was going to use is down. As soon as it is fixed, we should have all the copies of maps we'll ever need as we'll have them as .gif files. Hopefully after that we'll have the web site up and running soon. At least by Christmas time.
JK, gets the next two days....I love to set you up like this JK. Have fun.
From now on consider this a combat situation. In your turns send one action only. An action being one attack, one spell, lighting one torch, etc. Feel free to give if's, then's, and or's, but please no 1st's, 2nd's, & 3rd's.
Uhm, we still don't have everyone's character sheet, but we need them before the fight. So if you happen to be one of those people, you're going to find it difficult to ever actually hit anyone during combat.
JK says, Whew. Hope I didn't leave anyone out. We have a character sheet from everyone now. Oh and I really do roll all the attacks. I don't just make up the results. Don't worry too much about the exact layout of the place. It's a bar filled with tables, chairs, chandeliers, mugs, and anything else you might think of. Just have a good time.
Jerry says: I've always wanted to have an actual barroom brawl, but it's been too difficult to run in a live game. Here the DM has time to make decisions and add the necessary flavor. Guys, here's your chance to go crazy and get creative. It's stump the DM time! Woohoo!!!
JK says: Oh yes and Jerry is the DM now. It's stump the DM time.
John says: Ok. How about you sending to this address again. I didn't recieve some turns, and would like to figure out a way not to keep missing these.
Jerry says: JK, please add this new address to the address macro. John should now be receiving turns at both addresses.
Jerry says: It took me over two hours to do this turn. No problem. Just want you to know, once again, why there was a delay. I bet I've sent out over 20 emails regarding questions about combat, updated characters, etc. That's fine. They have to be dealt with. However, if just ONE PERSON says just ONE WORD about the delay, their character is TOAST! There I said it.
Everyone else: Oh Yes, mighty DM. We understand. No problem. ::bowing::
Jerry says: Keith call me, please.
Guys, to give us time to do the turns and get to bed at a reasonable time, we need turns in by 7:00pm CDT. Thanks. If anyone has a problem with this, please let us know. I'll try to get the turns out by 10:00pm each evening. JK may want to do his turns a little later than that. He'll let you know.
John says: Again, unless you object, I'm going to keep sending my response via two services.
Jerry says: Great!
John says: BTW: This is a fun "fight". Hope you DMs are enjoying your slaving to the keyboard as much as we are enjoying reading the results.
Jerry says: It took a little over two hours tonight to handle everything, and I loved every minute. I've wanted to do this for a long while. Don't get used to it though. I couldn't do this forever. :)
JK gets the next two turns. JK check the private notes below my turn for some useful information.
JK says, my apologies to Talvik who rolled last for his initiative.
David says: Pretty strong orc. Pretty nimble too in order to get such an advantage on someone with an 18 DEX and 18/00 strength...... JK says: Everyone knows the average orc is stronger than the average human. It's only natural for a super-orc to be stronger than a super-human. Joking aside we're building up a nemesis group... the Black Blades. The orc should wind up being Gareth's rival, and everyone else will meet theirs eventually. If the end of this turn was any indication, Nonam will meet his sooner than everyone else.
John says, Elves are supposed to have fun, right? JK says, Yes. Of course most of them hate undead (even friendly ghosts) with a passion. But then again Jus isn't your average elf. He's a mighty hero.
John says, Just out of curiosity, was this a DM's way of working things into the order of initiative. I'm not complaining, just wondering why Jus didn't punch the Orc as he wished to. JK says, Yes. Gareth beat you on initiative last round. This round too come to think of it.
David says, To DM: I'm assuming that everyone thinks Flaust is a male, due to her deep voice and hidden features....or maybe this society has a thing against dominate women.. :) JK says, I know she's a woman. I don't know about everyone else. Jerry's the one who had the halflings call her a man.
Jerry says: David, as far as the strength of the orc goes, JK put that very well. I thought you needed a rival and also wanted to see what you'd do with an equal or slightly superior opponent. This time it was in a bar fight. Next time.....?
David says: An orc nemesis? Maybe next time I'll ask him his name and he'll pass out in an effort to remember it?
JK says: Hahaha. Hey you should see Valdor's (Steve Hott's character for those of you who don't know) counterpart in the Black Dragons. It's this guy with long arms that walks like a gorilla. Compared to that an orc doesn't seem so bad.
Jerry says: Um, the scarred human must have cast a contingency spell to wake him after two rounds upon unconsciousness. [grin]
JK says: Ooops. You know I thought he was unconscious, but I couldn't find it. So I had him take an action. It turns out I just didn't look hard enough. I found it this time though thanks to all the 'prompting.' Anyway I needed some way to end the fight. My other alternative was "Gareth beats the orc's head into mush."
Jerry says: Flaust is a dominating woman? Eww...Onrad hates him I think. As far as calling him a he, it must have been the deep voice and hidden features.....:)
Jerry says: It is very tough to run a turn when the actions that the player desires is no longer available. (JK agrees) You have to try to include their clever dialogue if possible and give them the same sort of result somewhere else. Note that in "real" combat things will run VERY different than in a bar fight. We will adhere strictly to the rules of combat and what can be done in one round. Not that we won't appreciate creativity.
JK says: Jerry gets the next turn
Jerry says: More than one round has passed since anyone took damage so Flaust is unable to give anyone any hit points with his healing and herbalism non-weapon proficiencies. However, he is able to treat everyone so that they heal 3 hit points during the night rather than the usual one.
David to Jerry: Yeah, I imagine Flaust could rub you the wrong way in a conversation...but then again, she's not here to win a popularity contest :)
Jerry says: Onrad (and I) were kidding. I like the way you're playing your character very much. Onrad tends to like everyone until they have proven themselves false. Especially when he has made a commitment to them.
Jerry says: David, don't forget that in 1st Edition, half-orcs were player characters. Also, there are many references to orcs that advance in levels as humans do. I must be doing it right, because you even hate the concept of it. Good. May that hate continue to grow....[Muhahaha] BTW, I have no intention of him being foolish or a device for humor and slapstick. He and his fellow conspirators will humiliate you if you are not careful. Beware! This is your only warning.
I didn't receive turns from David or John. I hope to hear from both of you tomorrow.
Jerry
Introduction from The Jericho: The expanded group is beginning to meld together. It is amazing that this is only the second day in The Floating City. The email game is surely a different animal to the live game and the chat room game. I liked the idea of just walking out into the city and describing the site first-hand with levels of detail that are usually avoided in a live game.
JK says: Most damage (75% I think) from punching and wrestling is temporary for those that experienced it.
Jerry says: Yes, I don't remember the page and I don't really want to look it up, but I believe JK is right. If you were damaged by punching or wrestling, your damage is temporary and should all be gone with the morning. If you were damaged by objects such as tables, or cabinets, your damage was of the normal variety and is regained through normal and priestly channels.
Jerry says: Everyone should be at 3rd level now.
Jerry says: If you changed any spells, or even rememorized them, you need to let me know. If you changed spells, send an updated character sheet with your notification in text format.
Jerry says: Characters cannot cast a spell unless that spell is shown as memorized on the current character sheet in my possession.
I did not receive a turn from John.
See ya'll good folks tomorrow.
JK gets the next 2 turns.
Jerry says: Onrad's actions are not meant to be hints from the DM, but just me playing a character. JK says: yeah me too. You guys can go assault Black Dragon Castle if you want to. I mean Nonam probably wouldn't join in, but you can leave him behind if he's ever wanting to do something you don't want to do (or if he ever becomes too freakish).
Jerry says: No one asked for healing of the magical kind. So no one received any healing other than Flausts' use of his healing proficiency. All received 3 hits points over the night. All damage caused by fists and kicks are healed over night. All other damage remains.
Jerry gets the next 2 turns. For any of you guys that have a copy of the campaign folder there are maps of Floating City in there. All the places I mentioned (with the exception of the Silver Dragon which I just now made up because I didn't see any restaurants on the map) are labeled. And you can get the general idea of the location of the Silver Dragon from the address I gave.
Jerry says: Starting now, we will deal with the simple stuff such as inn fees, meals, repairing armor, etc. by establishing a monthly fee of $50. Subtract it now from your character or as you can afford it. :) If your character cannot afford this, ask me about the ALTERNATE plan.....Muhahaha!!!
Jerry says: I think I'm going to buy a scanner during my two weeks off. (which starts after tomorrow....Whee!) Any recommendations? Suggestions? Software Suggestions?
Jerry says: I'm also going to finalize for us a place to play a live game during the next two weeks. I'll inform you soon of what software you will need to play a live game. I'm open to suggestions as to things as to which Internet chat program/platform to use, dice rolling macro programs, instant messaging to send private notes to the DM during play etc. you guys would suggest.
My plan is to try some things JK has suggested, find a MUD message board and start asking questions. Perhaps join a game or two for xp.
See ya'll tomorrow.
Jerry says: John, it seems like you're having trouble getting in the Thurs., turn on time. Hmm.....I start the turn about 7:00pm that evening and complete it off-line. I usually mail it around 10:00pm. I didn't get your turn by then. The next time I checked my mail was Friday night. Thurs' turn was there then.
See ya'll on Monday.
jk says -This is one of those times that you don't have to agree with my character.
jk says- Sorry for the delayed turn. Jerry bought a $40,000 scanner yesterday, and he has been slaving away night and day scanning and printing maps to make your campaign folders. He plans to have them done and mailed by the end of the week. Also, once I get the data files, I'll put the maps on the web. So soon, you'll all have 2 ways of seeing where we are.
jk also says- Once Jerry finishes with the scanning, he'll begin checking into web chat rooms to conduct a live game some night in the next few weeks. We'll probably use a Java chat room so that no one will have to get any extra software. This assumes, of course, that you all have a Java capable browser like Netscape, MS Internet Explorer, or the new aol browser (which is in fact MSIE). Anyway, we need to work out a time we can do this. Could all of you list which nights of the week would be best for you to spend a few hours doing this. Or tell us if you are not going to be able to do this at all. We know you all have things to do so don't feel like there's a lot of pressure.
----------------------------------------
The Great Sight Seeing Tour: Turn 8
JK says: I sent this to Jerry to send out, but I think he forgot. Respond to him and not me.
[It seemed there was some confusion with the way I understood the events compared to the turns, so I looked up the turn Jerry sent to start this little section. Here's the part that caused trouble -"The Black Blades stole it and I need it back. It is in their apartment across the street from The Vampires Daughter."- This should have referred to the apartment of the Blight Witches and not that of the Black Blades. Perhaps it should have read something like this: "The Black Blades stole it and gave it to the blight witches, and I need it back. It is in the Blight Witches' apartment across the street from the Vampire's Daughter." Hope this clears things up a bit, and, as always, blame Jerry for any and all problems instead of me ;) ]
David says: Any night except Sunday is open for me, with a preference for Fridays and Saturdays
JK says: I know that Jerry, Keith, and I are going to be busy on Fridays since that is when we play our weekly game. (Or at least that's the night we are switching to in next week.) And I believe that Keith and Tony are busy on Saturday. Is that correct? Anybody else with comments on availability.
Jerry says: As to JK's comments the last two days, I fully intended there to be a discrepancy between the alchemist and his assistant. However, to keep from changing things a second time, we will let things stand as they are: both the alchemists and his assistant mention that the Black Blades stole it and now the Blight Witches have it.
Jerry says: I spend about 48 hours straight early this week scanning the color pictures and black and white maps into the computer and printing them out 10 copies each. I then assembled over 1,000 printed pages which made 10 more Campaign Folders, and mailed them out to those who needed them and lived out of town. It was quite a job.
Jerry says: Thanks to JK who spent several hours Monday helping me shop for a 600/600 dpi scanner and installing it on my computer with the software.
Jerry says: Thanks to Keith who spent countless hours working on scanning pictures for the campaign folders himself. His time spent is very much appreciated.
Jerry says: In between scanning sheets, I was able to get ahead on my DM planning for the home campaign. I'm going to have to stay ahead seeing that we are moving our local live game from Sunday to Friday one week from tonight. There's not going to be much planning time during the week with the online game to run too. As things stand now, I have modules written/and or planned out through Christmas in detail and in general through spring break. This should make things easier for me considering the fact that I will be going back to school at TWU for my state certification in administration mid-management this spring and summer. I need 6 hours and then I must pass a state test to get the certification.
Jerry says: Many articles need to be written before the web site that JK is slaving on can go up with the intent of getting TSR approval and a link to their site. If you want to help, contact him. I know I have a current list of 5 articles to be written, and his list is much longer. We can arrange for xp if you feel you need some sort of compensation. No pressure here. Just opportunity.
Important: I contacted David today on the phone and he has consented to join AOL in some limited fashion so that we can play our "live" game each month in a private room on AOL. This prevents the steep learning curve that each of us would have had to undergo to be able to do a live game on the Internet. I have already begun preparing for that event cutting and pasting macros, etc. We should be able to play just as soon as we can figure out a time. I'd like to have the first game in a week or so. I need EVERYONE's schedule ASAP, like before Monday. If I don't get it, I'll assume that your schedule is open and that you WILL be able to play with us at any time I choose. I'd like to go for a 4 hour time slot. That is the standard gaming time at all Cons and for the usual online game on AOL. I'll send you a set of online gaming rules in the next couple of days and we can start getting ready for this. Please list your schedule as I am doing below.
Jerry's schedule: Sunday--available afternoon and evening Monday--available evening Tuesday--available evening Wednesday--not available: faculty meetings and church Thursday--available evening Friday--not available: local D&D game (however, if necessary, we could quit early that night and do the online game later.....say 9pm-1am or something) Saturday--available morning, afternoon, and evening.
Again, please have a schedule of availability to me following the form above by Monday. Thanks.
Remember, the reasons for doing this is to speed up the game, because it will be fun, to get this group to bond together to a greater extent, and because it will be fun. I DO want to LIMIT it to once a month. The online game is meant to be a way to give all of you a D&D fix while maintaining friendships in a closer fashion than would be done otherwise. I don't want to put extra pressure or stress on anyone. If necessary, we can limit this to once every two months or even once quarterly.
Speaking along those lines, personally, I'd like to be hearing more of what is going on in all of your lives. That is one of the reasons we are keeping in contact with each of you. None of us want a novel everyday, but occasional updates when something interesting happens in your life would be welcome, below the line. Comments on this an ways to accomplish this goal?
I'll compile a list of possibilities for the 'live' game and have it for you on Monday. Then we can discuss Tues and Wed. I'd like to announce the Official time of the 'live' game by Thursday, next week, perhaps sooner. We will give at least one weeks notice for this first game and see how it works out to keep the same date each month so you can schedule it on your calendar. Assuming that we have fun :)
I'm assuming that John will not be able to play with us in a 'live game'. I'd love for him to be able to play, but don't see how he would do it. John, if you can figure out a way to do it, let me know. :(
See yall on Monday.
Keith says: Here's my sched.:
Sunday- available evenings Monday - same Tuesday- same Wednesday- busy all day Thursday- available Friday- not available Saturday- not available
David schedule: Sunday-- Church and DMing a local D&D game (unavailable) Monday--available evening Tuesday--available evening Wednesday--available evening Thursday--available evening Friday--available evening Saturday--available morning, afternoon, and evening. P.S. I'll be available this weekend and next weekend, but not the weekend of the 7th thru 10th (I'll be at Disney World with Shannon).
Jerry says: I received no preferences from David, JK, or Tony. So I'm assuming that anytime is ok with them.
Therefore unless anyone objects, and if so you should have sent in a schedule, Monday is our night. I propose the last Monday of each month from 7pm-11pm cst. The time is negotiable. I'd like to set it once for all though.
So our first four dates will be:
October 27 November 24 December 29 January 26
Times can be changed if everyone else can change. The earlier you tell us of a needed change in schedule, the better change there is of changing it.
Please check your calendars and schedule books and give me confirmation of the October date by tomorrow please. I'd like initial confirmation of the other three dates by Friday of this week.
Now, for some incentive. Perfect attendance for the last quarter of 1997 will cause your character to begin to earn an extra 5% to experience. Plus there will be a generous on time roll at each live session.
Players who miss without notice, will be ridiculed unmercifully. They also may find themselves exited from the adventure until such a time that they can be reinserted.
Read your House Rules for the "spirit" of how things will be handled. I'm not going to makeup lots or rules unless they are needed. Just remember that everyone is scheduling and setting aside this time and it's not fair to everyone else for you to not show up without notice citing an important reason.
I would think that any cancellations should be made one week before the game as a rule.
(Geez, Jerry doesn't play around does he?)
The next two turns are JK's
Jerry
Jerry says: We still didn't receive turns from some people. I hope there wasn't a mixup somewhere.
Jerry says: New rule, all characters must stay together. This takes way too long to run. Sorry, but it's just too difficult to send out three turns: one to the group, minus JK and John. And one to each of them separate. Plus it puts JK in a difficult situation, since he has to know what's going on with the other groups to DM his turns and then pretend he doesn't know when he's sending his turns to me.
Jerry says: I've received a couple of complaints about Nonam and Onrad speaking more than their fair share during a turn. Considering that some of you send in multiple paragraphs most days, not that they all see print sometimes, I don't see the problem. We do use those characters as filler in the conversation. Sometimes it is difficult to tie all the various turns you send in together into one cohesive whole. That's the reason Onrad made his entrance in the first place. JK discovered that it was very convenient to use Jus in this way when John was in the process of moving. So when Jus started back up under John's control, we began using our characters for that purpose. Also it let us play when the other was DMing their turns. Don't worry, JK and I are twice as hard on each other as you guys. Witness the way he had me enter falling down a staircase. So there's the explanation. If you guys feel that I should, I'll drop Onrad and use Theory for that purpose, but it is very convenient and helpful to have a character to help mold the conversation and bridge the gaps.
Till tomorrow,
Jerry
Until you rejoin the group, you will not be receiving the normal turn that goes out to everyone, but a private turn that goes just to you.
New rule. All characters will stay together to the point that I only have to run one turn. I realize it's putting a limit on what your characters can do, but time is a constraint. Also it puts a damper on the fellowship when you're not hearing from everyone everyday.
Everyone must be at the bathhouse by 3:00pm in two hours or else....:)
See ya tomorrow.
Jerry
Jerry says: When you receive Thurs. night's turn, it is due on Friday night. Not Saturday. Not Sunday. Friday. As I have my local D&D game Friday night, I may not run the turn until Saturday, however, the turn is due Friday by 7:00. If it comes in later, but before I run the turn then great, but you're taking a chance that I may run the turn late Friday evening.
Jerry says: The only turns I received were from JK and John. Since they were out on their own, I caught them up to rejoin the group on Monday evening. They will receive 100xp for sending in their turns on time.
Jerry says: I thinking that we can run the live game next month if we have at least three people playing.
This presents the problem of having these "live" gamers leave the party each month and then return. This would also make it hard in another aspect, because we'd have to finish what we were doing each month so it wouldn't leave those out who chose not to play in the "live" game.
However, I do have a possible solution. After the email group finishes up its series of short adventures in the Floating City, we could declare that the group is going to take a certain amount of time off, say 5 months. During this time, characters could go visit home, become one with the forest, go on a pilgrimage, do research, etc. Also during this time, the "live" games could occur.
Until we take a first "game time" break, we could say that the "live" games we're playing WILL occur during this future time. It's not perfect, in that the "live" players will be receiving XP's for something that hasn't happened yet, but it all works out in the end. After we arrive at this place in time where we decide to take a break, we can say that all "live" games TOOK place BACK THERE in that last time off, which seems to me to work better.
Does this make sense? What do you think?
To repeat, it's not a perfect system, but it keeps us from having to role-play the exits and entrances of the players who choose not to play in the "live" games; or vice versa it keeps us from having to role-play the exits and entrances of the players who do choose to play in the "live" games. We will give experience which can be used immediately, knowing that it all works out in the end.
Players who choose not to play in the live game could earn experience to make up for the difference if they wanted to by just mentioning that they wished to do so. There is always things to do as the campaign continues to expand. Since we'll be playing for four hours online, four hours of helping me with some aspect of the campaign could be equivalent to the four hours online each month. Of course you could choose not to do either and that would be fine as well.

Jerry says: I'm thinking of an xp reward for people who go all week without missing a turn. It would work similar to the on time reward that I use in my local game. All who have missed no returns, would receive a bonus of xp and gold, the same amount of each. Also I would roll percentages for all involved and the winner would receive either a healing potion or another potion, according to a system of charts that I have set up. There's even a VERY small chance of something better.

Jerry says: I'm thinking that there could be an on time roll for those who attend the online game as well.

The next turn is due Monday at 7:00pm cst.
Jerry
<John speaking> So Jus can run rejoin the group, and Jerry can do a single turn, here is all of Jus' actions in one turn (understanding it may take more than one of the other group's turns). If you want to reply once, or break into multiple turns, fine whichever way. I can even take the next and wait a couple before rejoining with the others. Jus wants to buy one or two spells before he re-joins, so if it is possible, I may need another turn to see what is available.
Jerry says: Seeing that your other questions were either answered or became irrelevant, I decided to cut them to save your reputation. [evil grin]
I'll have you join the others on Monday.
Jerry
Introduction from The Jericho: I felt the party needed a source of reliable information and chose Helo of the Red Tigers Adventuring Troupe to fulfill that role. As a female and a desirable one, I felt that her view on things would be a rewarding way to approach the information game. Plus it nicely plays the morality card.
Jerry says: I didn't receive much of anything from anyone today. Hmm....Would everyone please let JK know with tomorrow's turn if you sent in one on Monday? Thanks. Let's not be slacking off. Slacking brings powerful monsters to kill you all....Muhahaha!!!
I didn't give you much of a lead in this turn because I didn't receive much. Feel free to argue, fight, kill each other, or go inside.....oohhh.
Turns or at least an email about the missing turn are going out each day, so let me know if you don't get one.
Jerry
jk did this turn. I don't have too much to say.
Tony says: I tried to send this several times last night until 9:30 PM and AOL wouldn't let me. Sorry.
Jerry says: JK had the same problem. That's why there was no turn on Thursday.
The next turn is due by 7:00 pm Friday.
See yall tomorrow,
Jerry
Jerry says: For role-playing purposes and just for fun, please work a description of yourself and what you look like once changed.
Jerry says: I apologize to David for any perceived impropriety in the last turn. I probably shouldn't have put those words in Gareth's mouth. WE have ALL made fun of each others character from time to time. JK and I often put words in each other's mouth and I was just trying to "liven" up the turn a bit. My job, as I understand it is to turn what you send in into an interesting story. It is too easy to make a PC like Gareth the butt of jokes sometimes because he is such a serious character, but then traditionally, in literature, straight-laced characters like Gareth are often used by the party as comic relief. (aka Flint Fireforge in the Dragonlance Chronicles.) It is sometimes hard to know when one can, or should, make fun of, or with, someone and when not to. (Whew, what a run-on sentence.) It is, of course, to David's credit that he has successfully created such a great character.
Jerry says: Keith was very busy on Friday and Saturday and didn't get a turn in. He apologizes.
Jerry says: The first live game will be Monday evening, November 24th, from 7-11pm CST. It wouldn't bother me to start earlier. We will play with three or more. I'd like a tentative yes or no from everyone on Monday.
Jerry says: Thanks to David for his contribution to the construction of the Campaign Folders. I appreciate it.
The next turn is due Monday evening.
Jerry
David says: She isn't particularly concerned about nudity, considering her profession as a healer, but is attempting to keep her repulsive scarring covered.
David says: November 24th Monday night is okay for me.
Jerry says: That's one.
Jerry says: I didn't receive a turn from David today.
JK gets the next two turns.
The next turn is due tomorrow by 7.
Jerry.
JK says, Didn't get a turn from John.
Jerry says: I need to get my plans made for Thanksgiving Week. Please get your RSVPs and RSVPnot's in for Nov. 24th. Thanks.
John says: Very busy week with missions. Unable to participate until tomorrow or next day.
David says: Attention ALL!! I have taken a new job at Samsung corporation. in Richardson, TX. I'll be starting Monday. My work number and work email are no longer valid (They work, but I won't be the one with them...) so please don't use them any more. I'll let everyone know as soon as I have the new ones.
JK says: I made this. Back to Jerry tomorrow.
Jerry says: No turn today from John. (I'm assuming that he's still working on his missions.)
Jerry says: No turn today from Tony. Keith are you working him too hard? Remember, you miss your turn, you take your chances. The DM may want to have some fun with your character in your absence....hehe. Sorry Tony, but that seemed to be the direction you were headed.
Keith says: I'll be there for the 'live' game on the 24th, but I won't have bells on. That's two.
Jerry says: JK has not indicated that he won't be there so I'm counting him as the third person. Therefore the 'live' game on Monday the 24th from 7-11pm is on.
Jerry says: Continue to RSVP and RSVPnot.
The next turn is due tomorrow on Friday, but I'm sure I won't run the turn until Sat. night.
Jerry
