K'isst Thursday July 15th, 1999 7:50:57 PM
K'isst look strangely at Branze going over his wants and needs and grabs him by the arm in a carefree manner. "Branze ol' buddy, we should find a store or vender don't you think. How about that Ruthat's Bowyer and Adventuring Supply Store place? Let's go there. K'isst leads whoever will come over to Courtyard Circle and to Ruthat's. She opens the door for the others. She looks to see who all has come along. Then she steps inside and looks around smiling.
Draax Thursday July 15th, 1999 7:50:58 PM

Bill T Friday July 16th, 1999 11:03:02 AM
Bill follows K'isst's suggestion, and enters the adventuring supplies establishment. He cheerfully greets Ruthat or whoever may be overseeing the shop today, and announces, "Hi! We're here to buy things today. I'm going to look around." After which he walks steadily through the store, taking mental inventory of all he sees.
Branze Friday July 16th, 1999 11:03:03 AM
((Branze will look about all the shops to find what is on his list. He goes shopping all the time in real life with his wife, and has no desire to roleplay shopping. There are a few others in Ruthat's today, mostly looking over the weapons available. The store is well stocked with basic supplies, weapons, and a few different styles of armor. Ruthat spies you and excuses himself from a customer. He's aging well; his brawny walk is just as springy as it was years ago. "The Windorn Heroes! Glad to have you. How can I help."
Going over Branze's shopping list, he nods to each one -- until he gets to the Plate Mail. "You're not serious about this, are you? I've not seen a good set in years. Not even sure who can make it anymore."
"And how can I help you others?"
K'isst Friday July 16th, 1999 6:09:31 PM
She starts to respond to Branze, but turns instead to the storekeeper. "Thanks for your kind words. We're looking for weapons that will function well underwater. Magical if you have them and we can afford them, kind sir. Nice store!" To the others she says, "Did we find a trident on any of the Sea Devils. I can't remember. If so, I'd like to use that as I'm proficient in it."
Bill T Friday July 16th, 1999 8:21:59 PM
Bill answers K'isst's question, "I know that the sea devil that was attacking me dropped his trident after he missed me." Turning to Ruthat, he says, "Oh, yes, I throw darts, but I don't know whether you have, like, underwater darts? Like with strings on them so I can get them back? And, magical, too! Mr. Ruthat, do you have any magical underwater darts with strings attached? Or other magical anything?"
Draax Friday July 16th, 1999 8:22:00 PM
Looks at the various items in the shop and addresses the Ruthat. "I am looking for any device, ring, weapon, or any other type of item that gives me free-action underwater. Oh yeah, I also need a medium shield and another dagger."
Ruthat Saturday July 17th, 1999 6:29:29 AM
Ruthat heads over to his counter to grab a equisite quill filled with vibrant colors. "Underwater weapons? Let me think about that."<BR> <BR> Whoa!", he starts, looking at Branze's list. "A 500 foot rope and a boat! I must duly apologize, but boating is not a pastime around here -- not with the dragons! I can help you with the weapons, though; we've picked up a few tridents over the years. And a shield and dagger isn't a problem, either." He answers Bill's request with a deep rumbling laugh, full of good humor. "We could tie some string to your darts Bill T, but I don't see how you're going to throw them underwater! Seriously, I wish I could help you more. I did have a ring that would help, but BearClaw purchased it just a while ago." After thinking for a few minutes, he calls into another room. A girl comes out, probably around 8 years old judging by the twinkle in her eye. He whispers something to her and she runs off, her long dress brushing the doorway as she hurries outside. Turning back to the party he begins totalling the items on the lists, "Is Branze going to come back to pay for his items, or will you take care of it all together?"

If they did 500 foot of rope wouldnt be all that uncommon. And with 5000 gold that we where rewarded we should have no problems affording a simple boat.)) "If you cant find what i ask for fine, i will have to make do. We where given a large sum of gold as a reward. Take the gold from my share for the equipment i want that they have. If they dont have it well we shall be hard pressed to get the head back with out a boat and a rope to bring it back to the surface. Guess will just let the head stay missing." Branze says in a ttempt to get the people to find the goods that he needs.
K'isst Monday July 19th, 1999 2:10:22 PM
K'isst listens to the conversation between the storekeeper and Branze's list and says, "I was thinking more of walking the bottom. That's how we Trogs always did it when we traded with the undersea folks. Not that I ever got to go. I was always "too valuable."
DM Monday July 19th, 1999 8:36:25 PM
Ruthat ponders for a moment and then looks at the group assembled in front of him. "well for the time being lets assume that you need weapons that will function under water effectively. Hmm lets see.... come this way, of course swords and daggers will work as pokers and of course there are lances and spears and tridents of course, We also have an assortment of nets, bothe barbed and not and crossbow work under water for a limited distance, I believe around 30 ft and there is this new kind of bow going around. It is kind of like a cross bow in funtion, only longer and not quite as bulky, but it fires long steel barbed arrows. Hmm let's see here we go. He then presses on a section of wall that slides in and opens to a smaller room filled with an assortment of these different weapons. "now mind you, some of theses are better than others and some I picked up in bulk and have no knowledge about, however all of theses are magicked, (makes a warding sign), in some way or other. look through these or the other weapons in the next room. If you find something you like bring it to the front along with anyother equipment you might desire and we can discuss them and terms.
Bill T Tuesday July 20th, 1999 1:57:16 AM
Bill's eyes open wide. "You have a secret room! Boy, wait till Borbo sees this! Hey - I wonder where he is." The halfling scampers into the special weapons room, and tries to figure out what might work for him. He checks to see if there are any short swords or knives. "I hope Borborino lets me use that invisible ring sometime soon. Then I could sneak up and grab the Sentinel's head! Well, if we can find it. And if we can travel underwater. And if we get there alive. And if that big shark doesn't turn the big good giant into a piece of rock, I suppose. Hey - look at this!"

"Wow! Either this is the local militia's stash, this guy is a collector, or this town uses and sells alot more magic than I figured. You surface people are sure extravagant...and rich!" K'isst looks first for any broadswords that might be there and then for a trident that might be of use underwater. She silently thanks her stepfather, who fosteraged her, for teaching her to be effective underwater with a trident.
DM Wednesday July 21st, 1999 9:34:54 AM
There are several nice long and short swords, 2 daggers, a broadsword, four tridents, three spears, two crossbows, 4 of the new bow, 3 unbarbed and one barbed net, that seem to stand out from the rest.

Bill T d20=8 Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:13:43 AM
Bill takes a few minutes to check out two or three of the short swords, one of the daggers, one of the new bows, and both types of nets. He tries to find enough space to get a feel for the heft, balance, and characteristics of each one, stabbing, slashing, parrying. Being skilled with the rope and lasso, he sees if his skills transfer at all to the net. As an experiment, he sees if he can toss an unbarbed net over Draax's head. When it just rolls off Draax's left shoulder to the ground, Bill complains, "Hey, you moved!" Regarding the steel-barbed arrows, Bill asks, "Mr. Ruthat, sir, do you suppose that one could put a cord on one of these arrows so that you could pull it back if it misses, but also so that it doesn't gum up the bow on the way out? What do you think?"
K'isst Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:29:13 AM
K'isst takes a look at the tridents surprised to find them glowing with the Branze's spell. She looks to see if one if brighter than the others and tries them all for balance, craftmanship, and heft. She mock fights Bill giving each one a try, but thinking to herself that you just never know a weapon's capabilities until you get into actual combat with it. "Mr. Ruythat sir? What can you tell me about each of these tridents? I prefer a broad sword for land work, but suppose a trident would be best for underwater combat. I'm equally good at either. I can always trade this in somewhere for a broadsword after this venture assuming I survive it." She grimaces as she says that last part.
Ruythat Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:11:39 PM

Draax checks out the different long and short swords and whatever daggers are available. While looking at a nicely balanced longsword, he noticed Bill testing the weight of a net and looking directly at him. Just as Bill let the net fly, Draax take a step to the left and lets it roll off his shoulder. He laughs and looks at Bill. "Sorry Bill, I didn't know you was aiming at me." He put on a serious expression and stands still. "Ok, I promise not to move if you want to try again." After a couple of seconds, making sure that Bill got the joke, Draax goes over to look at the shields hoping that Bill does not want to test out any crossbow bolt.

Do they make any noise if they are dropped in the woods and there is no one to hear them?

He then studies the new bows with the steel arrows, and after he figures he understands their operation, goes ahead and nocks an arrow. He does not pull it back, but points it toward the ceiling. The halfling walks to the main part of the shop where Ruthat went. "Mr. Ruthat, is there a place I can try shooting this? Hey, what are you doing to Mr. Ruthat, K'isst?"

Hearing K'ist's and Bills call, Ruythat hurries back. "Oh Im such the featherbrain sometimes, I did not realize you wanted to ask me questions." What with the festival and the theft of the sentinel head, though I never did believe it did much myself, My brain is just floating right out of my head. Oh my, looking at the paricular sword Branze has picked out and is holding. "You have a fine eye there my friend, If i am not mistaken, that is probably the most expensive weapon we have in the store. Reaching out and touching the sword. Yes that sword is magiced over four mage days, It runs somewhere around 13,000. To Bill, Umm test fire that, in here? Umm ... nope, i'm sure that would not be a good idea. Those new bows, I think they are calling them spearbows, don't work particularily well outside of the water. To K'isst, Hmm tridents, yes well those I'm afraid we bought from a group of travelers that were passing thru, so I don't know much about them, however if you will hand me the one you are interested in I will tell you what I can. To Drax, I see you are looking at blades of all types. Are you looking for something in particular? To Sedar and Galahad, Welcome come in join your companions. They are looking at magiced weapons that might be useful underwater of all things. I, myself see no reasons to ever leave the solid firmness of land. But that's me of course.
K'isst d20=16 Friday July 23rd, 1999 1:53:44 PM
K'isst continues to study each trident to see what differences between them she can notice. (Voluntary perception check of 16 which fails.) Um, Ruthat, how much is each one of these tridents? Oh, and Ruthat, we are needing magical means to breathe underwater. Do you have or know of anything around these parts that will help us with that? We can't properly go after the stolen Sentinel Head without the ability to breath underwater for say a week or two.'

While admiring the shields Draax hear Mr. Ruythat addressing him he looks up at the storekeeper and answers the question. "What I would really like is any weapon or item that allows my free action under water, but since you do not seem to have any, I will take the best longsword that you have that I can afford. Better yet, show me the best longsword that you have along with the best one that I can afford. Who know what treasures this next assignment may bring us and if I am able to return, I might have enough to buy the best."
Ruythat Sunday July 25th, 1999 12:47:16 PM
You all seem to have this thing about going under water. Are you going under water then soon? and why? Are you fishermen then? Turning to Branze , Now as for weapons you can afford. It is not my fault that you picked up the most expesive sword shown there. There are swords and weapons there ranging from 500 gold to 15,000. The ones with the brightest Auras are probably the most expensive. As for those of you who dont use bladed weapons, the room to the otherside contains maces, staves, hammers and other things. we also have potions, rings, and other things available as well if you but ask for specific things I will show them to you. As for item and things that help you breathe and move freely under water, I am afraid i dont have many of those. most are owned by fishermen, underwater traders, the churches, the militia might have a few and possibly some other private citizens. I can put the word out and let you know if some one wants to sell what they have.

K'isst Monday July 26th, 1999 8:41:49 PM
After looking at the various tridents around the room, she finally settles on one: a bluish grey metal trident with a pale cream aura and no barbs. "Some of these look positively evil! This one though seems ok. I like that it doesn't have any barbs. Kill I will if I must, but I don't care to be cruel. Barbs are cruel. So Ruthat, 3200 eh? (covered in emails) That seems rather steep. I'm don't think I can afford that with all the other things we need to go after this Sentinel head. Hmm....How about a counter offer of 2,500 my friendly man?"
DM Monday July 26th, 1999 9:21:18 PM
"Oh dear, My, oh my, Yes well. You are going after the head? Why? You are right of course, the Sentinel Head was stolen. But nothing has happened. There have been no dragons, no end of the world, nothing. The council has decided that there is no pressing need to go after it. So you are going after it on your own? My, my, mother was right. I guess it really does take all kinds of people. Well, i wish you all the luck. Now then, ::turning to K'isst:: Oh dear, 2500 for that one, well I could take that amount for maybe the black metal one there, #3. For the one you are holding, Oh dear, I can't see taking any less than 2900 I'm afraid.

Bill T Tuesday July 27th, 1999 2:06:53 AM
"Branze, K'isst, Sedar, and everyone. You each have more than 5000 gold. And less. There are seven or eight of us who have 5000 each. That's 35000 to 40000. If each of us keeps, say 500 for discretionary spending, and uses the rest to help us prepare for the sea-based assault, maybe a thousand or two would be enough for one person's weapon needs, and, I don't know, six or seven for another's..." The halfling speaks clearly and rapidly. "What will give us the best mix of benefits? I think one or two in the party should have a water bow and several steel arrows for it. And a trident for K'isst - since you know how to use it, right? And at least one net. Maybe several non-magical ones. Maybe a magic sword or two. Draax, I think you are right -- let Mr. Ruthat [OOC: original spelling - no 'y'] show us the best, and we'll get what we can now, but know what to aim for later... And, Mr. Ruthat - you think nothing is going to happen to Windhorn Hamlet because of the loss of the Sentinel, and that we're just going on some sort of silly quest because we are silly adventurers. But you seem a nice man, so I won't hold that against you. Nevertheless, you are mistaken on all counts. Well, at least most counts. Sometimes we may seem silly, but the loss of the Sentinel will make a difference, and our goal is dead serious, and the people of this community best not stick their collective nose in the corner to count the cobwebs, but get ready to defend themselves if necessary." The roused hobbit swings short sword #2 (silvery grey metal, bright blue aura, jeweled pommel and tined hilt guard) a few times for emphasis as though facing a foe. "And you, with your resources, and as an influential merchant in our town, ought to think what you can do to rouse them and aid them. Now, what you are doing right now, by helping us arm ourselves to try and recover the Sentinel's head, are in fact also helping the town, whether you think so or not. And not just by filling your worthy coffers, no. Each thing you have that can help us on this quest, that can give us a sharper edge, a special defense, a quicker response, a stronger front, a means of stealth, can help to aid this town. And, believe it or not, by aiding this town, you aid potentially all that is good in the Wold, even places we've never seen before, but only heard of. There was a king once who went to battle. Some watched over the baggage that supported the army, and some fought on the front lines. When the spoils of that victorious army were divided, the king said, "Those who watched the baggage shall have equal shares with those who used the sword." In his wisdom, he knew that those supplies kept that army fed, and armored, and armed. You, sir, Mr. Ruthat, are in a way part of this band... Now, sir, consider: If the magic of the Sentinel is not real, then perhaps neither is the magic of these weapons, and the prices you charge are for fakery and trickery." Bill holds out his hands, forestalling objections, "No, I do not say that is so. We sense real magic here in what you sell, and believe you to be a good and honest man. But there is power in craft, there is power in faith, and there is power in the people. The Sentinel is a Ward -- a ward against the dragons. And the ritual renews the power, it renews the covenant, it deepens the protection. But the sea devils, called sahuagin, seek to break the power of the covenant by kidnapping the focus of the covenant... I see you are willing to help us, and we are grateful. Think how grateful the community and so many in Wold will be when they hear of how Ruthat, the Merchant of Marvelous Artifacts, was a key to the success of the Windhorn Hamlet Seven in their Assault on the Sahuagin and the Saving of the Sentinel! Think of how others will come to marvel at and, yes, buy from your very own shop in this very town! I say Three Cheers! Three Cheers!" Bill Troublefinder marshals his brave companions to bolster the man who can be their benefactor. "Everyone, Three Cheers for Merchant Ruthat. Hip hip hooray! Hip hip HooRAY! Hip hip HOORAAAAAAAAAY!" He shouts [hoping others join in], thrusting the glowing short sword high in the air -- high that is, for a hobbit.

The ignorant half-elf has no idea what Bill is trying to do and gets himself caught up in the hobbit's story. Draax actually starts believing in what Bill is talking about. Draax raises up the sword he is holding (sword # 4 - reddish gold metal with a yellow aura, simple guard and pommel leather wrapped 2800 gp) and starts yelling "Hip Hip Hooraaay, Hip Hip Hooraaay". In his excitement he places the sword down in front of the shopkeeper, believing the man could not possibly sell the sword for the asking price now, not after Bill's inspiring speech. Draax ask excitedly " Ok, how much for this one now?" He looks at Ruthat with a hopeful look on his face.

As Branzes picks up the black blade, he suddenly goes still as a quick scene crosses his minds eye, of children being killed and burned and he gets aqueasy feeeling in his gut. Sedar has a similar experience with a similar sword. As Drax picks his choice up he has a feeling that this sword was forged just for him. Galahad's mace flares a bright yellow as he picks it up and then dies back down to appear to be nothing more than a dull grey metaled mace. As Bill starts to speak and wave his sword about, it is almost as if you cant turn away from him, and that you have never heard him speak quite so eloquently before. Even Ruthat seems to be captured by the moment and you can almost see him stand straighter and taller and more proud that you would have thought possible. Then it ends, all of the auras die out and you have before you and in your hands, weapons.
Ruthat Wednesday July 28th, 1999 9:54:43 AM
"Ahhh, yes I can see it now, councilman Ruthat, no, mayor Ruthat!" It would be my honor..... what? what happened? now where were we? ::looking around at you all:: ah yes, you were choosing weapons. very good, let's see, to Bill, that one is 5600 gp, To Galahad, Your mace would be 3300, to Sedar and Branze, Oh my, are you sure you want those blades? they are 3200 each, To Drax, that sword is a good bargain and costs 2800. though It pains me to see you all waste your time doing something that obviously doesnt need doing. But as my mother said, Dont question that which is unanswerable. Ah well, how about it are you interested in those weapons?

Feeling a little disappointed that Ruthat did not get all patriotic about Bill's speech, Draax decided to get back to business. "OK, I think I found the sword that I am looking for, could you tell all you know about this sword and do we still get the 10% discount?" Draax holds the sword close to Ruthat so that he can get a good look at it. After the shopkeeper tells Draax about the sword, he looks over toward the shields. "I still need to replace my shield, you know my price limitations. Which one would you suggest?
Branze Bones Wednesday July 28th, 1999 9:54:45 AM
"Ah that blade has a touch of evil. Perhaps the golden blade then. And yes i still have my flying disk, but the thing has prooven to valuable twice to sell." he says looking to Borbo. He takes on a harder edge as he looks at the shop keeper. "Why would you keep such a blade, even greed can not be worth the imagary of that sword coming to pass. But, i will take another enchanted blade as it will help with recovery of the head. And if you could be so good as to tell us the rest of the type of goods you may have for sale, We can get together and spend alot of money in this shop outfitting are party." he looks towards borbo again. "I mean 35,000 gold to spend in you shop is enough to retire on." says Branze still fealing a bit quesy from the evil enchanted blade.
Bill T Wednesday July 28th, 1999 11:37:07 AM
At the end of the speech, Rond joined in on the three cheers. Afterwards, he asks, "Do you have any special two-handed swords, Ruthat?"
Bill T Wednesday July 28th, 1999 11:46:56 AM
[Previous 'Bill T' should be ROND.] Bill thrilled with the moment of the speech. As the afterglow fades, he looks at the sword in his hand, and scratches his head. With a sigh, he puts it back. "I can't afford it," he states wistfully. He looks at the daggers, and selects #2 (grey metal with a yellow blue aura, slender blade, tined guard, 800gp) and short sword #1 (bluish grey metal with a pale cream aura, standard unadorned pommel, 1800gp) [unless already claimed by another]. "Mr. Ruthat, do you have anything that can help make me stronger? Or faster? Or better in other ways? Like special belts, or rings, or ... I don't know. Do you? Oh, and do you have any non-magical spear guns - that's the right name, isn't it?"
K'isst Wednesday July 28th, 1999 4:10:30 PM
"Ah, my noble Ruthat. Shall we settle on 2,700gp as a final price then?" She smiles at him and adds, "We truly do appreciate your showing us your collection of things magical. I can see you're very proud if it and you should be."
Ruthat Wednesday July 28th, 1999 11:14:56 PM
Oh dear mayor Ruthat, savior of windhorn, what? oh yes, thats fine lass 2600 gps it is. How about the rest of you? to Drax, I see you have chosen yours as well.Lets se that was 2500 gp Ah yes the 10% off, of course i'll honor that here. Evil blades? where? like I said I bought these all in a whole bundle sight unseen. some folk like the dark blades. why should I not sell them.If you dont like the sword then dont buy it. that other sword looks like it suits you though and for letting me know about the other sword ill will only charge you 2600. to Bill he nods at his choices as well and says yes there are a few of those spearguns in the front. As for other things that i have for sale, can you be bit more specific about what you are looking for?
Sedar the Mage Thursday July 29th, 1999 11:18:08 AM
After discussing the weapons of choice (short sword and dagger)The 1/2 elf plunks down his gold at the agreed to price. Continues to browse the shop.
K'isst Thursday July 29th, 1999 11:18:09 AM
Mr Ruthat sir, you mentioned that you didn't have much for breathing underwater. Do you have anything that would help us with that? I have a feeling we're going to need to find everything we can. Mr. Lothar implied that the town would foot the bill for that kind of thing, but that we could help him find such magic.
Galahad Quivelio Thursday July 29th, 1999 11:18:10 AM
Galahad dumps down 3300gp onto the counter. He then hands the rest to K'isst, "I will donate the rest of my money to the party for anyone who needs more money for better weapons. I am in no particular need for it right now."
Draax Thursday July 29th, 1999 11:18:11 AM
Satisfied with his choice from the swords, Draax begins examining the shields.

Rond Thursday July 29th, 1999 8:02:50 PM
Rond asks a second time, "Ruthat, Do you have any special two-handed swords?"
Bill T Thursday July 29th, 1999 8:21:10 PM
"More specific? Okay. Do you have an enchanted belt or sash or gloves or, whatever, that would make me stronger? Do you have enchanted bracers that make it harder for people to hit the wearer? Or rings that give protection? Or rings that let you teleport, or go invisible? K'isst has already asked for things that help underwater. See, it seems to me, sir, that we're giving you a great opportunity to tell us of the wonderful things you have, but you're turning it into a guessing game. You are asking us for hints. Why don't you give us some?" Bill knows that Ruthat has some amazing items here ... but feels like he's rather scatterbrained for a merchant.
Bill T Thursday July 29th, 1999 8:23:13 PM
Then, thinking himself scatterbrained, too, Bill adds, "Oh, and how about something to help keep warm while underwater for a long time?"

Drax fins a decent shield and rond finds that there is one two-handed sword in his price range. Ruthat collects 20,700 gps from the group for the weapons. It is coming close to noon.
Ruthat Friday July 30th, 1999 10:33:31 AM
Oh dear, give you a list of everything I have in my shop? My, my that would be an undertaking. My inventory changes almost daily and with several thousands of items..... well you understand the difficulty that would create. Primarily I deal with Armaments, normal supplies and potions. I do have a limited supply of rings and such but the least expensive of the rings is in the neighborhood of 5000 gp. As for magical gauntlets and things of that nature, I rarely get things like that here. I did once but it was gone again the next day. ::sigh:: Brought a pretty price too it did. I think it was somewhere around 10,000 gold. Well like I said before I dont have anything that will help you under water, however, If the council said that they would finance those purchases, though that seems odd in light of their decision not to go after the head, ah well I guess it won't to give you the namesof those people I sold the items to over the years. Now I cant guarantee that they still have these items or if they would even be willing tosell them but, I will give you the list and you can try contacting them yourselves. Now would you all be interested in any healing potions today. I have an abundance and could give you a great deal on them say 300 gold each?
Galahad Quivelio Friday July 30th, 1999 10:33:32 AM
Galahad tests the weight of his new mace, and checks for any arcane writings that might be etched on it. After checking the whole weapon, Galahad just stands and waits for what the group will do next. "I believe that if we went door to door to each persons house, we would probably be wasting our time, and theirs."
Draax Friday July 30th, 1999 10:33:33 AM
Draax checks out the shield. "Yes this will do fine. Ok, I will take this shield along with the sword and 2 healing potions." After paying for his items Draax takes whatever is left and puts it into the group fund for those that may need it.
Branze Bones Friday July 30th, 1999 10:33:34 AM

I need to go pray to Domi for guidance on this mission. I will be at the beech when you have gathered enough things for us to be on our way." he says as he leaves the shop and walks towards the beach. Once there he gets starts sword forms with his new blade to cast the augry spell he had prepared to find out about this journey they must undertake.
Bill T Friday July 30th, 1999 5:14:51 PM
"Branze, you're in an all-fired mood to leave before we're ready. Go ahead and go to the beach, but don't expect that we'll be going until we're equipped and ready, and don't be surprised if that doesn't happen in the next ten minutes, or the next ten hours. I'd love to leave today, too, but I'm not just going to go out there and join a drowning committee. Have a nice time on the beach," he says in a cheerful voice. Bill then turns to Ruthat. "Yes, healing potions would be wonderful." To the party he suggests, "How about two per person, plus an extra two just in case? That would be ... oh, let's just get twenty, and with the 10% discount, that will cost us ... 5400 gold, right, Mr. Ruthat?"
K'isst Friday July 30th, 1999 9:38:35 PM
K'isst looks after Branze with a very strange look on her face. "Normally this translation rock works very well, but" turning to Galahad, "Did he just say I was his money? I assume he meant that he wanted me to hold or spend it? Hey Branze, hold it or spend it? Ah rats. He's gone." To Ruthat he says, "I may want one of those potions once we take care of our underwater needs. And I'd like that list please. I'll take it back to Lothar and perhaps it will help him."
Sedar the Mage Saturday July 31st, 1999 10:53:04 AM
Entering the Inn , then his room. The 1/2 elf settles in and opens the found spellbook. He then decides to see which spells that he can learn. (It's going to be a long night, he thinks to himself)
Ruthat Saturday July 31st, 1999 1:19:38 PM
Well, yes, I see, my my, 20 potions? Ok then. Yes, you are correct, 5400 gold. Now then young lady, about that list, lets see, that will take me a little while to work it up. Shall I send it over to you at the inn around, say 3pm? Ah yes I forgot, Bill is it? looking at the halfling. Did you decide whether you wanted to purchase one of those new bows and arrows? the spearguns?
Galahad Quivelio Saturday July 31st, 1999 11:55:21 PM
Galahad turns to K'isst, "I think Branze wants you to buy potions and underwater gear for the party." Shruging, Galahad smiles, "maybe he did say that you were his money. Who knows. Those Domi priests can have a weird sence of humor once in awhile." Grinning, Galahad continues to examine his new weapon.
Rond Sunday August 1st, 1999 1:18:25 AM
I want to try a speargun, Ruthat. Let me take it out to the water and try shooting three speargun arrows in the water, to make sure I can do it. Show me how, if there is a trick to it. If I don't like it, I'll pay for any arrows I lose when I try it. If I like it, I'll pay you for it.
Bill T Sunday August 1st, 1999 1:38:42 AM
"K'isst - your translation stone may have trouble with ambiguities. But Galahad is right - Brother Branze meant for you to use the money for the party's needs." Bill grins and assures her, "And no, you are not his money." Hearing Rond's request, Bill pipes up, "Oh yes, good idea! Mr. Ruthat, sir, how about both he and I try out the spearguns? How much for each, and what do the steel arrows for them cost? I should think, if we like them, we should want to buy a good quantity of arrows. And if you want someone to come with us from your shop, that would be fine - that is, when we test shoot in the water, you see? And the list to K'isst by 3pm, yes, marvelous. Oh - what happened to the girl you sent out earlier?"

K'isst Monday August 2nd, 1999 10:06:09 PM
K'isst gets a serious and concerned look on her pretty face. "Ah, I see. Thanks. Sorry Brother Branze. Seems I misunderstood. Watch me on that. If I ever misunderstood something in a time of trial, it would be bad. Bill, why don't you handle the group funds? I don't feel...experienced enough with surface situations to do it. I'm going to keep just a bit for personal things and give you Branze's money here as well as 2,000 of mine. Here. If we all pool what we don't absolutely need, we should have enough left to get what we need."
Bill T Tuesday August 3rd, 1999 1:23:32 AM
"Well, sure K'isst, I suppose. Though I don't claim to be much of a banker. But I can generally add and subtract and do regular math stuff. Anybody who wants to help, step right up. I don't think I want to lug all of it around by myself!" Bill turns to Ruthat. "So, can we take the spearguns out to test them?"
Rond Tuesday August 3rd, 1999 1:24:53 AM
Rond awaits Merchant Ruthat's response. Meanwhile, he looks at longbows, planning for the future.
Ruthat Tuesday August 3rd, 1999 8:56:52 AM
Well, my, my. Of course you may test them, and of course as they say, you break, you buy. ::handing Rond the weapon:: Here you go, one spear gun and three arrows. If you think you will be done testing it by 3 you may either send it back with my assistant when she brings you the list, or you can send her to me with a message that you want to keep it and how many bows and how many more arrows you would like.

"Good. We can wedge some of these down in the sand, maybe use some rocks to hold them, too," Bill suggests. "And, so we don't float back to the surface while we stand on the bottom, we can tie a rock to my grappling hook, and hook that on a belt. The rope for the hook can go up to the beach, to pull it back out when we're done. I don't know how we're going to keep everything from looking blurry, though," he says, scratching his head. / "Oh, hi Branze. How are things at the beach? We're heading there now. Rond and I are going to try out this spear gun here. See how far it shoots. Wanna watch? Or do you have to do something in town? K'isst says we should find some underwater breathing stuff." / As they approach the beach, Bill asks, "Rond, are you a very good swimmer? Hey, remember after we came up the stairs by the waterfall, and I was getting real busy trying to put Mengor's body on my back, only the disk lost its lift? Anyway, that's beside the point. I blew air into a wineskin, because I thought I was going to be going over the waterfall, and wanted to be able to float. Here's a wineskin. It just has some water in it now." Bill drinks some, asks if anyone else wants a drink, then pours the contents on the ground. Then he puffs air to fill it, and caps it off. "There! A nice little floater! Ah, here we are." He divests himself of his knapsack, takes off his shirt, revealing a moderately hairy halfling chest with a bit of a paunch (though not rivaling Borbo's). He takes the biggest board they found. "Hey, instead of using the grappling hook to hold ourselves down, we can use it and the rope to hold the board down, but keep the board at an angle so we have something to shoot at. Here, Rond, do you want to help me out? Draax, do you want to try this thing, too?"

Bill wraps the grappling hook around the large piece of wood, and ties a fair-sized rock to the bottom of the contraption. "Rond, could you help me carry this out? It's kind of heavy." [Assuming Rond helps...] Wading into the water, they carry the target out into water just over the hobbit's head. The rock is heavy enough to pull the lower part of the wood down, but the top still floats a couple inches above the surface. Bill keeps bobbing up and down. The water is about up to Rond's chest. "Hey, I found a big rock down here. Give me a minute, and I'll tie it down." The halfling grabs a bight of rope, and dives down. After a minute he bobs up, takes three breaths, and then his body and feet disappear again. The board dips down, then about an inch of it is above the surface. "Okay, it's anchored," Bill says after blowing out a mist of water. "Rond - do you want to try it first?" Bill moves back toward the beach to where he can stand up. "I'll watch to see where the speargun arrows go if you miss the target."
Rond Monday August 9th, 1999 6:03:40 PM

The four militia members, finish their dice game and two of them wander off while the other two lean back as if to take an afternoon nap. Bill manages to secure the target so that it floats about four feet below the surface. The water where the target is seems to be around 12 ft deep and fairly calm due to the reef. Sedar is having a blast going thru the new spell book and has found several new spell that he can probably learn. (game time is currently 1:30 pm)
Bill T Tuesday August 10th, 1999 1:44:25 AM
"Well, Rond, you can try swimming. You don't know how yet, do you? How long can you hold your breath? You seem to have good lungs. Well, let's see. Since you haven't figured out how to swim... I know! You can tuck a rock or a few rocks up under your shirt or tunic, and stuff your shirt into your belt. Then, you can walk on the bottom. When you want to come up, crouch on the bottom, untuck your shirt, and drop the rocks, and push off hard from the bottom, and you'll shoot to the surface. Meantime, before you go out, I'll have some air in this wineskin, and have it tied to the back of your belt. No, around your chest - that'd be better. Here, let me ... hey, just stoop down so I can reach you. Lift up your arms." As (and if) Rond does so, Borbo ties the inflated wineskin so it is firm around Rond's chest. He steps back and looks. "No, that's gonna float up and hit your chin, maybe block your vision." Bill then scoots the wineskin around to Rond's back, still with the rope around chest and back. "That's better, maybe. But, then you'll have to kick some too, I suppose. We've gotta get us all taught in swimming. And figure out how to rig some floats better. Okay - hey - look at those guards!" / Bill turns to the guards, "Hey, are you the militia here? What is this, holiday play in uniform? Aren't you supposed to be awake and alert in case dragons or sea devils or other dangers come? You're the militia! You should do your job with pride and skill and alertness! But here you're playing and napping on the job! Who is supposed to be in charge here? Sheesh! I'll bet none of you could figure out how to fire one of these underwater," Bill challenges, picking up the speargun and waving it in the air (not loaded). "Here Rond, show 'em how it's done." Bill hands him the speargun and two of the barbed steel arrows for it. "I'll come out kinda off to the side a ways and watch you." Bill picks up one of the other pieces of wood to use as a float [and maybe a shield at the appropriate time] as he follows Rond out.

Rond is having difficulties, even with the clear calm water, staying under and seeing the target. After several tries he gets to a point about 15 ft away where he can bot see the target and touch bottom when he goes under. The Militia, the two that are within earshot of Bill, laugh and say, Yeah like anything is going to happen. I always knew that the sentinel wasn't keeping the dragons away. They havent been seen in so long that there cant be any dragons still left alive.
K'isst Thursday August 12th, 1999 3:50:07 AM
K'isst hearing the guards words turns to Galahad who has remained strangely quiet after her request to tell of himself and says, "Those guards are stupid. The trogfolk know of the dragons. It why we never traded with any surface folk out in the bay. My father even saw a dragon once, although it was so far away, I think it was only probably a small bird. Say, Galahad, perhaps we should be making better use of our time. I think those of us not testing this equipment should do some more shopping for underwater breathing magic and equipment." She rises and offers a hand to Galahad. "Branze wanna come along? Draax?"
Bill T Thursday August 12th, 1999 3:50:08 AM
Hearing the guards' response just before heading into the water, the halfling turns and says rather flatly, "I was taught to avoid calling anyone a fool, so I'll leave you two to your own counsel for the moment." Bill turns and swims over past Rond, and treads water about twelve feet off the side of the target, waiting for the moment when Rond fires the speargun. He'll track the steel arrow. If it misses, he plans to swim to recover the spent missile.
Draax Thursday August 12th, 1999 3:50:09 AM
