K'isst
Thursday July 15th, 1999 7:50:57 PM

K'isst look strangely at Branze going over his wants and needs and grabs him by the arm in a carefree manner. "Branze ol' buddy, we should find a store or vender don't you think. How about that Ruthat's Bowyer and Adventuring Supply Store place? Let's go there. K'isst leads whoever will come over to Courtyard Circle and to Ruthat's. She opens the door for the others. She looks to see who all has come along. Then she steps inside and looks around smiling.

Draax

Nods to K'isst while she holds the door for him as he enters into Ruthat's. While inside he will looks to see what they have for sale.

Bill T
Friday July 16th, 1999 11:03:02 AM

Bill follows K'isst's suggestion, and enters the adventuring supplies establishment. He cheerfully greets Ruthat or whoever may be overseeing the shop today, and announces, "Hi! We're here to buy things today. I'm going to look around." After which he walks steadily through the store, taking mental inventory of all he sees.

Branze
Friday July 16th, 1999 11:03:03 AM

((Branze will look about all the shops to find what is on his list. He goes shopping all the time in real life with his wife, and has no desire to roleplay shopping. Now if my wife could have only learned to play d&d you would all be in trouble with the role playing of that as she would grab you by the hand and lead you around)) "I found what i need have fun K'isst."

There are a few others in Ruthat's today, mostly looking over the weapons available. The store is well stocked with basic supplies, weapons, and a few different styles of armor. Ruthat spies you and excuses himself from a customer. He's aging well; his brawny walk is just as springy as it was years ago. "The Windorn Heroes! Glad to have you. How can I help."

Going over Branze's shopping list, he nods to each one -- until he gets to the Plate Mail. "You're not serious about this, are you? I've not seen a good set in years. Not even sure who can make it anymore."

"And how can I help you others?"

K'isst
Friday July 16th, 1999 6:09:31 PM

She starts to respond to Branze, but turns instead to the storekeeper. "Thanks for your kind words. We're looking for weapons that will function well underwater. Magical if you have them and we can afford them, kind sir. Nice store!" To the others she says, "Did we find a trident on any of the Sea Devils. I can't remember. If so, I'd like to use that as I'm proficient in it."

Bill T
Friday July 16th, 1999 8:21:59 PM

Bill answers K'isst's question, "I know that the sea devil that was attacking me dropped his trident after he missed me." Turning to Ruthat, he says, "Oh, yes, I throw darts, but I don't know whether you have, like, underwater darts? Like with strings on them so I can get them back? And, magical, too! Mr. Ruthat, do you have any magical underwater darts with strings attached? Or other magical anything?"

Draax
Friday July 16th, 1999 8:22:00 PM

Looks at the various items in the shop and addresses the Ruthat. "I am looking for any device, ring, weapon, or any other type of item that gives me free-action underwater. Oh yeah, I also need a medium shield and another dagger."

Ruthat
Saturday July 17th, 1999 6:29:29 AM

Ruthat heads over to his counter to grab a equisite quill filled with vibrant colors. "Underwater weapons? Let me think about that."<BR> <BR> Whoa!", he starts, looking at Branze's list. "A 500 foot rope and a boat! I must duly apologize, but boating is not a pastime around here -- not with the dragons! I can help you with the weapons, though; we've picked up a few tridents over the years. And a shield and dagger isn't a problem, either." He answers Bill's request with a deep rumbling laugh, full of good humor. "We could tie some string to your darts Bill T, but I don't see how you're going to throw them underwater! Seriously, I wish I could help you more. I did have a ring that would help, but BearClaw purchased it just a while ago." After thinking for a few minutes, he calls into another room. A girl comes out, probably around 8 years old judging by the twinkle in her eye. He whispers something to her and she runs off, her long dress brushing the doorway as she hurries outside. Turning back to the party he begins totalling the items on the lists, "Is Branze going to come back to pay for his items, or will you take care of it all together?"

((500 foot of rope is very easy to make, rope is made of hemp, i buy 10 50 ropes, the you get them to rework the hemp. This is a village on the ocean they dont fish at all for anyfood? If they did 500 foot of rope wouldnt be all that uncommon. And with 5000 gold that we where rewarded we should have no problems affording a simple boat.)) "If you cant find what i ask for fine, i will have to make do. We where given a large sum of gold as a reward. Take the gold from my share for the equipment i want that they have. If they dont have it well we shall be hard pressed to get the head back with out a boat and a rope to bring it back to the surface. Guess will just let the head stay missing." Branze says in a ttempt to get the people to find the goods that he needs.

K'isst
Monday July 19th, 1999 2:10:22 PM

K'isst listens to the conversation between the storekeeper and Branze's list and says, "I was thinking more of walking the bottom. That's how we Trogs always did it when we traded with the undersea folks. Not that I ever got to go. I was always "too valuable."

Monday July 19th, 1999 8:36:25 PM

Ruthat ponders for a moment and then looks at the group assembled in front of him. "well for the time being lets assume that you need weapons that will function under water effectively. Hmm lets see.... come this way, of course swords and daggers will work as pokers and of course there are lances and spears and tridents of course, We also have an assortment of nets, bothe barbed and not and crossbow work under water for a limited distance, I believe around 30 ft and there is this new kind of bow going around. It is kind of like a cross bow in funtion, only longer and not quite as bulky, but it fires long steel barbed arrows. Hmm let's see here we go. He then presses on a section of wall that slides in and opens to a smaller room filled with an assortment of these different weapons. "now mind you, some of theses are better than others and some I picked up in bulk and have no knowledge about, however all of theses are magicked, (makes a warding sign), in some way or other. look through these or the other weapons in the next room. If you find something you like bring it to the front along with anyother equipment you might desire and we can discuss them and terms.

Bill T
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 1:57:16 AM

Bill's eyes open wide. "You have a secret room! Boy, wait till Borbo sees this! Hey - I wonder where he is." The halfling scampers into the special weapons room, and tries to figure out what might work for him. He checks to see if there are any short swords or knives. "I hope Borborino lets me use that invisible ring sometime soon. Then I could sneak up and grab the Sentinel's head! Well, if we can find it. And if we can travel underwater. And if we get there alive. And if that big shark doesn't turn the big good giant into a piece of rock, I suppose. Hey - look at this!"

Draax's eye widen at the collection of weapon, but he quickly resumes his composure and begins picking up and testing any longswords, shortswords, and/or daggers that he finds. If any are available he will test them for balance, sharpness, and the strength of the blade. If he finds one that really catches his attention he will casually ask the storeowner "This one seems nice, how much for it?"

"Wow! Either this is the local militia's stash, this guy is a collector, or this town uses and sells alot more magic than I figured. You surface people are sure extravagant...and rich!" K'isst looks first for any broadswords that might be there and then for a trident that might be of use underwater. She silently thanks her stepfather, who fosteraged her, for teaching her to be effective underwater with a trident.

Wednesday July 21st, 1999 9:34:54 AM

There are several nice long and short swords, 2 daggers, a broadsword, four tridents, three spears, two crossbows, 4 of the new bow, 3 unbarbed and one barbed net, that seem to stand out from the rest.

Triple B

Casts detect magic. "Wow that is impressive, im sorry my list was so long i just thought a boat might be needed to recover the head. But seeing all of this magic it may not be." he walks into the room and grabs a longsword with a strong enchanment and looks at it admiringly.

Bill T  d20=8
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:13:43 AM

Bill takes a few minutes to check out two or three of the short swords, one of the daggers, one of the new bows, and both types of nets. He tries to find enough space to get a feel for the heft, balance, and characteristics of each one, stabbing, slashing, parrying. Being skilled with the rope and lasso, he sees if his skills transfer at all to the net. As an experiment, he sees if he can toss an unbarbed net over Draax's head. When it just rolls off Draax's left shoulder to the ground, Bill complains, "Hey, you moved!" Regarding the steel-barbed arrows, Bill asks, "Mr. Ruthat, sir, do you suppose that one could put a cord on one of these arrows so that you could pull it back if it misses, but also so that it doesn't gum up the bow on the way out? What do you think?"

K'isst
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:29:13 AM

K'isst takes a look at the tridents surprised to find them glowing with the Branze's spell. She looks to see if one if brighter than the others and tries them all for balance, craftmanship, and heft. She mock fights Bill giving each one a try, but thinking to herself that you just never know a weapon's capabilities until you get into actual combat with it. "Mr. Ruythat sir? What can you tell me about each of these tridents? I prefer a broad sword for land work, but suppose a trident would be best for underwater combat. I'm equally good at either. I can always trade this in somewhere for a broadsword after this venture assuming I survive it." She grimaces as she says that last part.

Ruythat
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:11:39 PM

Draax
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 11:36:27 AM

Draax checks out the different long and short swords and whatever daggers are available. While looking at a nicely balanced longsword, he noticed Bill testing the weight of a net and looking directly at him. Just as Bill let the net fly, Draax take a step to the left and lets it roll off his shoulder. He laughs and looks at Bill. "Sorry Bill, I didn't know you was aiming at me." He put on a serious expression and stands still. "Ok, I promise not to move if you want to try again." After a couple of seconds, making sure that Bill got the joke, Draax goes over to look at the shields hoping that Bill does not want to test out any crossbow bolt.

Laughing at Ruthat not hearing her question, she shouts, "Hey Ruthat! If you wanna sell any of this, come answer my questions!" Then she stops and purrs for effect, "Pretty please??" Then she strokes his neck just to be sure. "I wanted to know what you knew about these tridents. How much? Where did you get them? Do they make any noise if they are dropped in the woods and there is no one to hear them?

Bill dances K'isst's weapon dance, and laughs at Draax's kidding, and tosses the net at him in a balled-up wad. He then studies the new bows with the steel arrows, and after he figures he understands their operation, goes ahead and nocks an arrow. He does not pull it back, but points it toward the ceiling. The halfling walks to the main part of the shop where Ruthat went. "Mr. Ruthat, is there a place I can try shooting this? Hey, what are you doing to Mr. Ruthat, K'isst?"

Hearing K'ist's and Bills call, Ruythat hurries back. "Oh Im such the featherbrain sometimes, I did not realize you wanted to ask me questions." What with the festival and the theft of the sentinel head, though I never did believe it did much myself, My brain is just floating right out of my head. Oh my, looking at the paricular sword Branze has picked out and is holding. "You have a fine eye there my friend, If i am not mistaken, that is probably the most expensive weapon we have in the store. Reaching out and touching the sword. Yes that sword is magiced over four mage days, It runs somewhere around 13,000. To Bill, Umm test fire that, in here? Umm ... nope, i'm sure that would not be a good idea. Those new bows, I think they are calling them spearbows, don't work particularily well outside of the water. To K'isst, Hmm tridents, yes well those I'm afraid we bought from a group of travelers that were passing thru, so I don't know much about them, however if you will hand me the one you are interested in I will tell you what I can. To Drax, I see you are looking at blades of all types. Are you looking for something in particular? To Sedar and Galahad, Welcome come in join your companions. They are looking at magiced weapons that might be useful underwater of all things. I, myself see no reasons to ever leave the solid firmness of land. But that's me of course.

K'isst continues to study each trident to see what differences between them she can notice. (Voluntary perception check of 16 which fails.) Um, Ruthat, how much is each one of these tridents? Oh, and Ruthat, we are needing magical means to breathe underwater. Do you have or know of anything around these parts that will help us with that? We can't properly go after the stolen Sentinel Head without the ability to breath underwater for say a week or two.'

While admiring the shields Draax hear Mr. Ruythat addressing him he looks up at the storekeeper and answers the question. "What I would really like is any weapon or item that allows my free action under water, but since you do not seem to have any, I will take the best longsword that you have that I can afford. Better yet, show me the best longsword that you have along with the best one that I can afford. Who know what treasures this next assignment may bring us and if I am able to return, I might have enough to buy the best."

Ruythat
Sunday July 25th, 1999 12:47:16 PM

You all seem to have this thing about going under water. Are you going under water then soon? and why? Are you fishermen then? Turning to Branze , Now as for weapons you can afford. It is not my fault that you picked up the most expesive sword shown there. There are swords and weapons there ranging from 500 gold to 15,000. The ones with the brightest Auras are probably the most expensive. As for those of you who dont use bladed weapons, the room to the otherside contains maces, staves, hammers and other things. we also have potions, rings, and other things available as well if you but ask for specific things I will show them to you. As for item and things that help you breathe and move freely under water, I am afraid i dont have many of those. most are owned by fishermen, underwater traders, the churches, the militia might have a few and possibly some other private citizens. I can put the word out and let you know if some one wants to sell what they have.

K'isst
Monday July 26th, 1999 8:41:49 PM

After looking at the various tridents around the room, she finally settles on one: a bluish grey metal trident with a pale cream aura and no barbs. "Some of these look positively evil! This one though seems ok. I like that it doesn't have any barbs. Kill I will if I must, but I don't care to be cruel. Barbs are cruel. So Ruthat, 3200 eh? (covered in emails) That seems rather steep. I'm don't think I can afford that with all the other things we need to go after this Sentinel head. Hmm....How about a counter offer of 2,500 my friendly man?"

DM
Monday July 26th, 1999 9:21:18 PM

"Oh dear, My, oh my, Yes well. You are going after the head? Why? You are right of course, the Sentinel Head was stolen. But nothing has happened. There have been no dragons, no end of the world, nothing. The council has decided that there is no pressing need to go after it. So you are going after it on your own? My, my, mother was right. I guess it really does take all kinds of people. Well, i wish you all the luck. Now then, ::turning to K'isst:: Oh dear, 2500 for that one, well I could take that amount for maybe the black metal one there, #3. For the one you are holding, Oh dear, I can't see taking any less than 2900 I'm afraid.

Bill T
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 2:06:53 AM

"Branze, K'isst, Sedar, and everyone. You each have more than 5000 gold. And less. There are seven or eight of us who have 5000 each. That's 35000 to 40000. If each of us keeps, say 500 for discretionary spending, and uses the rest to help us prepare for the sea-based assault, maybe a thousand or two would be enough for one person's weapon needs, and, I don't know, six or seven for another's..." The halfling speaks clearly and rapidly. "What will give us the best mix of benefits? I think one or two in the party should have a water bow and several steel arrows for it. And a trident for K'isst - since you know how to use it, right? And at least one net. Maybe several non-magical ones. Maybe a magic sword or two. Draax, I think you are right -- let Mr. Ruthat [OOC: original spelling - no 'y'] show us the best, and we'll get what we can now, but know what to aim for later... And, Mr. Ruthat - you think nothing is going to happen to Windhorn Hamlet because of the loss of the Sentinel, and that we're just going on some sort of silly quest because we are silly adventurers. But you seem a nice man, so I won't hold that against you. Nevertheless, you are mistaken on all counts. Well, at least most counts. Sometimes we may seem silly, but the loss of the Sentinel will make a difference, and our goal is dead serious, and the people of this community best not stick their collective nose in the corner to count the cobwebs, but get ready to defend themselves if necessary." The roused hobbit swings short sword #2 (silvery grey metal, bright blue aura, jeweled pommel and tined hilt guard) a few times for emphasis as though facing a foe. "And you, with your resources, and as an influential merchant in our town, ought to think what you can do to rouse them and aid them. Now, what you are doing right now, by helping us arm ourselves to try and recover the Sentinel's head, are in fact also helping the town, whether you think so or not. And not just by filling your worthy coffers, no. Each thing you have that can help us on this quest, that can give us a sharper edge, a special defense, a quicker response, a stronger front, a means of stealth, can help to aid this town. And, believe it or not, by aiding this town, you aid potentially all that is good in the Wold, even places we've never seen before, but only heard of. There was a king once who went to battle. Some watched over the baggage that supported the army, and some fought on the front lines. When the spoils of that victorious army were divided, the king said, "Those who watched the baggage shall have equal shares with those who used the sword." In his wisdom, he knew that those supplies kept that army fed, and armored, and armed. You, sir, Mr. Ruthat, are in a way part of this band... Now, sir, consider: If the magic of the Sentinel is not real, then perhaps neither is the magic of these weapons, and the prices you charge are for fakery and trickery." Bill holds out his hands, forestalling objections, "No, I do not say that is so. We sense real magic here in what you sell, and believe you to be a good and honest man. But there is power in craft, there is power in faith, and there is power in the people. The Sentinel is a Ward -- a ward against the dragons. And the ritual renews the power, it renews the covenant, it deepens the protection. But the sea devils, called sahuagin, seek to break the power of the covenant by kidnapping the focus of the covenant... I see you are willing to help us, and we are grateful. Think how grateful the community and so many in Wold will be when they hear of how Ruthat, the Merchant of Marvelous Artifacts, was a key to the success of the Windhorn Hamlet Seven in their Assault on the Sahuagin and the Saving of the Sentinel! Think of how others will come to marvel at and, yes, buy from your very own shop in this very town! I say Three Cheers! Three Cheers!" Bill Troublefinder marshals his brave companions to bolster the man who can be their benefactor. "Everyone, Three Cheers for Merchant Ruthat. Hip hip hooray! Hip hip HooRAY! Hip hip HOORAAAAAAAAAY!" He shouts [hoping others join in], thrusting the glowing short sword high in the air -- high that is, for a hobbit.

Draax raises up the sword he is holding (sword # 4 - reddish gold metal with a yellow aura, simple guard and pommel leather wrapped 2800 gp) and starts yelling "Hip Hip Hooraaay, Hip Hip Hooraaay". In his excitement he places the sword down in front of the shopkeeper, believing the man could not possibly sell the sword for the asking price now, not after Bill's inspiring speech. Draax ask excitedly " Ok, how much for this one now?" He looks at Ruthat with a hopeful look on his face.

Sedar has a similar experience with a similar sword. As Drax picks his choice up he has a feeling that this sword was forged just for him. Galahad's mace flares a bright yellow as he picks it up and then dies back down to appear to be nothing more than a dull grey metaled mace. As Bill starts to speak and wave his sword about, it is almost as if you cant turn away from him, and that you have never heard him speak quite so eloquently before. Even Ruthat seems to be captured by the moment and you can almost see him stand straighter and taller and more proud that you would have thought possible. Then it ends, all of the auras die out and you have before you and in your hands, weapons.

It would be my honor..... what? what happened? now where were we? ::looking around at you all:: ah yes, you were choosing weapons. very good, let's see, to Bill, that one is 5600 gp, To Galahad, Your mace would be 3300, to Sedar and Branze, Oh my, are you sure you want those blades? they are 3200 each, To Drax, that sword is a good bargain and costs 2800. though It pains me to see you all waste your time doing something that obviously doesnt need doing. But as my mother said, Dont question that which is unanswerable. Ah well, how about it are you interested in those weapons?

Draax
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 9:54:44 AM

Feeling a little disappointed that Ruthat did not get all patriotic about Bill's speech, Draax decided to get back to business. "OK, I think I found the sword that I am looking for, could you tell all you know about this sword and do we still get the 10% discount?" Draax holds the sword close to Ruthat so that he can get a good look at it. After the shopkeeper tells Draax about the sword, he looks over toward the shields. "I still need to replace my shield, you know my price limitations. Which one would you suggest?

Branze Bones

"Ah that blade has a touch of evil. Perhaps the golden blade then. And yes i still have my flying disk, but the thing has prooven to valuable twice to sell." he says looking to Borbo. He takes on a harder edge as he looks at the shop keeper. "Why would you keep such a blade, even greed can not be worth the imagary of that sword coming to pass. But, i will take another enchanted blade as it will help with recovery of the head. And if you could be so good as to tell us the rest of the type of goods you may have for sale, We can get together and spend alot of money in this shop outfitting are party." he looks towards borbo again. "I mean 35,000 gold to spend in you shop is enough to retire on." says Branze still fealing a bit quesy from the evil enchanted blade.

Bill T

At the end of the speech, Rond joined in on the three cheers. Afterwards, he asks, "Do you have any special two-handed swords, Ruthat?"

Bill T
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 11:46:56 AM

[Previous 'Bill T' should be ROND.] Bill thrilled with the moment of the speech. As the afterglow fades, he looks at the sword in his hand, and scratches his head. With a sigh, he puts it back. "I can't afford it," he states wistfully. He looks at the daggers, and selects #2 (grey metal with a yellow blue aura, slender blade, tined guard, 800gp) and short sword #1 (bluish grey metal with a pale cream aura, standard unadorned pommel, 1800gp) [unless already claimed by another]. "Mr. Ruthat, do you have anything that can help make me stronger? Or faster? Or better in other ways? Like special belts, or rings, or ... I don't know. Do you? Oh, and do you have any non-magical spear guns - that's the right name, isn't it?"

K'isst
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 4:10:30 PM

"Ah, my noble Ruthat. Shall we settle on 2,700gp as a final price then?" She smiles at him and adds, "We truly do appreciate your showing us your collection of things magical. I can see you're very proud if it and you should be."

Ruthat
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 11:14:56 PM

Oh dear mayor Ruthat, savior of windhorn, what? oh yes, thats fine lass 2600 gps it is. How about the rest of you? to Drax, I see you have chosen yours as well.Lets se that was 2500 gp Ah yes the 10% off, of course i'll honor that here. Evil blades? where? like I said I bought these all in a whole bundle sight unseen. some folk like the dark blades. why should I not sell them.If you dont like the sword then dont buy it. that other sword looks like it suits you though and for letting me know about the other sword ill will only charge you 2600. to Bill he nods at his choices as well and says yes there are a few of those spearguns in the front. As for other things that i have for sale, can you be bit more specific about what you are looking for?

Thursday July 29th, 1999 11:18:09 AM

Mr Ruthat sir, you mentioned that you didn't have much for breathing underwater. Do you have anything that would help us with that? I have a feeling we're going to need to find everything we can. Mr. Lothar implied that the town would foot the bill for that kind of thing, but that we could help him find such magic.

"More specific? Okay. Do you have an enchanted belt or sash or gloves or, whatever, that would make me stronger? Do you have enchanted bracers that make it harder for people to hit the wearer? Or rings that give protection? Or rings that let you teleport, or go invisible? K'isst has already asked for things that help underwater. See, it seems to me, sir, that we're giving you a great opportunity to tell us of the wonderful things you have, but you're turning it into a guessing game. You are asking us for hints. Why don't you give us some?" Bill knows that Ruthat has some amazing items here ... but feels like he's rather scatterbrained for a merchant.

Drax fins a decent shield and rond finds that there is one two-handed sword in his price range. Ruthat collects 20,700 gps from the group for the weapons. It is coming close to noon.

Ruthat
Friday July 30th, 1999 10:33:31 AM

Oh dear, give you a list of everything I have in my shop? My, my that would be an undertaking. My inventory changes almost daily and with several thousands of items..... well you understand the difficulty that would create. Primarily I deal with Armaments, normal supplies and potions. I do have a limited supply of rings and such but the least expensive of the rings is in the neighborhood of 5000 gp. As for magical gauntlets and things of that nature, I rarely get things like that here. I did once but it was gone again the next day. ::sigh:: Brought a pretty price too it did. I think it was somewhere around 10,000 gold. Well like I said before I dont have anything that will help you under water, however, If the council said that they would finance those purchases, though that seems odd in light of their decision not to go after the head, ah well I guess it won't to give you the namesof those people I sold the items to over the years. Now I cant guarantee that they still have these items or if they would even be willing tosell them but, I will give you the list and you can try contacting them yourselves. Now would you all be interested in any healing potions today. I have an abundance and could give you a great deal on them say 300 gold each?

Galahad Quivelio

Galahad tests the weight of his new mace, and checks for any arcane writings that might be etched on it. After checking the whole weapon, Galahad just stands and waits for what the group will do next. "I believe that if we went door to door to each persons house, we would probably be wasting our time, and theirs."

Draax
Friday July 30th, 1999 10:33:33 AM

Draax checks out the shield. "Yes this will do fine. Ok, I will take this shield along with the sword and 2 healing potions." After paying for his items Draax takes whatever is left and puts it into the group fund for those that may need it.

Branze Bones

After placing the money on the counter for his sword, he slams the new blade into his sheath. "K'sst here is my money that is left. Buy the potions and the underwater gear we may need. I need to go pray to Domi for guidance on this mission. I will be at the beech when you have gathered enough things for us to be on our way." he says as he leaves the shop and walks towards the beach. Once there he gets starts sword forms with his new blade to cast the augry spell he had prepared to find out about this journey they must undertake.

Bill T
Friday July 30th, 1999 5:14:51 PM

"Branze, you're in an all-fired mood to leave before we're ready. Go ahead and go to the beach, but don't expect that we'll be going until we're equipped and ready, and don't be surprised if that doesn't happen in the next ten minutes, or the next ten hours. I'd love to leave today, too, but I'm not just going to go out there and join a drowning committee. Have a nice time on the beach," he says in a cheerful voice. Bill then turns to Ruthat. "Yes, healing potions would be wonderful." To the party he suggests, "How about two per person, plus an extra two just in case? That would be ... oh, let's just get twenty, and with the 10% discount, that will cost us ... 5400 gold, right, Mr. Ruthat?"

K'isst
Friday July 30th, 1999 9:38:35 PM

K'isst looks after Branze with a very strange look on her face. "Normally this translation rock works very well, but" turning to Galahad, "Did he just say I was his money? I assume he meant that he wanted me to hold or spend it? Hey Branze, hold it or spend it? Ah rats. He's gone." To Ruthat he says, "I may want one of those potions once we take care of our underwater needs. And I'd like that list please. I'll take it back to Lothar and perhaps it will help him."

Well, yes, I see, my my, 20 potions? Ok then. Yes, you are correct, 5400 gold. Now then young lady, about that list, lets see, that will take me a little while to work it up. Shall I send it over to you at the inn around, say 3pm? Ah yes I forgot, Bill is it? looking at the halfling. Did you decide whether you wanted to purchase one of those new bows and arrows? the spearguns?

Galahad Quivelio
Saturday July 31st, 1999 11:55:21 PM

Galahad turns to K'isst, "I think Branze wants you to buy potions and underwater gear for the party." Shruging, Galahad smiles, "maybe he did say that you were his money. Who knows. Those Domi priests can have a weird sence of humor once in awhile." Grinning, Galahad continues to examine his new weapon.

Rond

I want to try a speargun, Ruthat. Let me take it out to the water and try shooting three speargun arrows in the water, to make sure I can do it. Show me how, if there is a trick to it. If I don't like it, I'll pay for any arrows I lose when I try it. If I like it, I'll pay you for it.

Bill T
Sunday August 1st, 1999 1:38:42 AM

"K'isst - your translation stone may have trouble with ambiguities. But Galahad is right - Brother Branze meant for you to use the money for the party's needs." Bill grins and assures her, "And no, you are not his money." Hearing Rond's request, Bill pipes up, "Oh yes, good idea! Mr. Ruthat, sir, how about both he and I try out the spearguns? How much for each, and what do the steel arrows for them cost? I should think, if we like them, we should want to buy a good quantity of arrows. And if you want someone to come with us from your shop, that would be fine - that is, when we test shoot in the water, you see? And the list to K'isst by 3pm, yes, marvelous. Oh - what happened to the girl you sent out earlier?"

If I ever misunderstood something in a time of trial, it would be bad. Bill, why don't you handle the group funds? I don't feel...experienced enough with surface situations to do it. I'm going to keep just a bit for personal things and give you Branze's money here as well as 2,000 of mine. Here. If we all pool what we don't absolutely need, we should have enough left to get what we need."

Bill T

I don't think I want to lug all of it around by myself!" Bill turns to Ruthat. "So, can we take the spearguns out to test them?"

If you think you will be done testing it by 3 you may either send it back with my assistant when she brings you the list, or you can send her to me with a message that you want to keep it and how many bows and how many more arrows you would like.

"Good. We can wedge some of these down in the sand, maybe use some rocks to hold them, too," Bill suggests. "And, so we don't float back to the surface while we stand on the bottom, we can tie a rock to my grappling hook, and hook that on a belt. The rope for the hook can go up to the beach, to pull it back out when we're done. I don't know how we're going to keep everything from looking blurry, though," he says, scratching his head. / "Oh, hi Branze. How are things at the beach? We're heading there now. Rond and I are going to try out this spear gun here. See how far it shoots. Wanna watch? Or do you have to do something in town? K'isst says we should find some underwater breathing stuff." / As they approach the beach, Bill asks, "Rond, are you a very good swimmer? Hey, remember after we came up the stairs by the waterfall, and I was getting real busy trying to put Mengor's body on my back, only the disk lost its lift? Anyway, that's beside the point. I blew air into a wineskin, because I thought I was going to be going over the waterfall, and wanted to be able to float. Here's a wineskin. It just has some water in it now." Bill drinks some, asks if anyone else wants a drink, then pours the contents on the ground. Then he puffs air to fill it, and caps it off. "There! A nice little floater! Ah, here we are." He divests himself of his knapsack, takes off his shirt, revealing a moderately hairy halfling chest with a bit of a paunch (though not rivaling Borbo's). He takes the biggest board they found. "Hey, instead of using the grappling hook to hold ourselves down, we can use it and the rope to hold the board down, but keep the board at an angle so we have something to shoot at. Here, Rond, do you want to help me out? Draax, do you want to try this thing, too?"

Bill wraps the grappling hook around the large piece of wood, and ties a fair-sized rock to the bottom of the contraption. "Rond, could you help me carry this out? It's kind of heavy." [Assuming Rond helps...] Wading into the water, they carry the target out into water just over the hobbit's head. The rock is heavy enough to pull the lower part of the wood down, but the top still floats a couple inches above the surface. Bill keeps bobbing up and down. The water is about up to Rond's chest. "Hey, I found a big rock down here. Give me a minute, and I'll tie it down." The halfling grabs a bight of rope, and dives down. After a minute he bobs up, takes three breaths, and then his body and feet disappear again. The board dips down, then about an inch of it is above the surface. "Okay, it's anchored," Bill says after blowing out a mist of water. "Rond - do you want to try it first?" Bill moves back toward the beach to where he can stand up. "Well, Rond, you can try swimming. You don't know how yet, do you? How long can you hold your breath? You seem to have good lungs. Well, let's see. Since you haven't figured out how to swim... I know! You can tuck a rock or a few rocks up under your shirt or tunic, and stuff your shirt into your belt. Then, you can walk on the bottom. When you want to come up, crouch on the bottom, untuck your shirt, and drop the rocks, and push off hard from the bottom, and you'll shoot to the surface. Meantime, before you go out, I'll have some air in this wineskin, and have it tied to the back of your belt. No, around your chest - that'd be better. Here, let me ... hey, just stoop down so I can reach you. Lift up your arms." As (and if) Rond does so, Borbo ties the inflated wineskin so it is firm around Rond's chest. He steps back and looks. "No, that's gonna float up and hit your chin, maybe block your vision." Bill then scoots the wineskin around to Rond's back, still with the rope around chest and back. "That's better, maybe. But, then you'll have to kick some too, I suppose. We've gotta get us all taught in swimming. And figure out how to rig some floats better. Okay - hey - look at those guards!" / Bill turns to the guards, "Hey, are you the militia here? What is this, holiday play in uniform? Aren't you supposed to be awake and alert in case dragons or sea devils or other dangers come? You're the militia! You should do your job with pride and skill and alertness! But here you're playing and napping on the job! Who is supposed to be in charge here? Sheesh! I'll bet none of you could figure out how to fire one of these underwater," Bill challenges, picking up the speargun and waving it in the air (not loaded). "Here Rond, show 'em how it's done." Bill hands him the speargun and two of the barbed steel arrows for it. "I'll come out kinda off to the side a ways and watch you." Bill picks up one of the other pieces of wood to use as a float [and maybe a shield at the appropriate time] as he follows Rond out.

It why we never traded with any surface folk out in the bay. My father even saw a dragon once, although it was so far away, I think it was only probably a small bird. Say, Galahad, perhaps we should be making better use of our time. I think those of us not testing this equipment should do some more shopping for underwater breathing magic and equipment." Rond will fire at the target, watch the arrow hit the target, and then resurface.

Branze Bones
Thursday August 12th, 1999 3:50:11 AM

"Sure." he says following K'sst. "Guys just make sure to watch the waves, we dont need any new guests."

Bill T
Thursday August 12th, 1999 3:50:12 AM

"Great shot, Rond!" And to those on shore, "You should have seen the target jump! What a thud!" And back to Rond. "Can I try it now? Huh? Is it my turn yet?"

Sedar the Hungry
Thursday August 12th, 1999 8:53:38 AM

Hitting the books has caused quite a stir in the 1/2 elf's tummy. Down the stairs of the Inn, into the tavern room where food is to be found. "my, my, what smells good in here .... some wine if it can be found?"

DM
Thursday August 12th, 1999 8:53:39 AM

Rond's shot goes straight toward the target and pierces the plank. You get the feeling the bow might be good for about 25 ft in distance. The group heading back to town arrives back at around 2 pm. Sedar heads downstairs where Mary is having lunch, she asks if he would care to join her. the serving girlon duty brings you a nice red wine and the lunch platter

Branze Bones
Thursday August 12th, 1999 8:53:40 AM

((geez three weeks now on shopping and testing out bows.)) Mary a good lunch will be needed but i must eat light. They said dont swim on a full stomach. And we may be swimming any minute now if we can find the right items to get the sentenials head back.

Galahad Quivelio
Thursday August 12th, 1999 8:53:41 AM

Galahad, follows K'isst around the town, observing everything that might be of some type of interest, or out of the ordinary.

Rond
Thursday August 12th, 1999 8:53:42 AM

"good. That confimrs that it works, but it looks like it might be a one shot deal, before you have to get your other weapon around. Now to see how we can work and play underwwater without any problems."

Sedar the Hungry
Thursday August 12th, 1999 9:18:47 PM

"Thats very kindly of ypou mary, I most certainly will" sits down and begins with some idle conversation as he samples the food and drink."hmm very nice..."

K'isst
Friday August 13th, 1999 8:30:00 AM

"Let's go by the inn and check on Sedar and then perhaps ask around there to see where else we can look. We either need a means to traverse the surface of the ocean as Branze had envisioned, or a way to breathe underwater for extended periods of time, which was how I saw things naturally being a Trog. Beyond knowing that with the right magic and stuff both or either should be possible, I don't know anything either. I am though beginning to get antsy about getting started. I just couldn't sit on that beach another second and watch them fool with that blasted toy. We've important things to do, like rescue that head! Even if it doesn't protect from dragons, it's magical and a symbol of safety to the people here. It's an honorable endeavor."

Draax
Friday August 13th, 1999 8:30:01 AM

Walks to the inn with the others to check on Sedar.

Bill T  d20=11 d20=11
Friday August 13th, 1999 8:30:02 AM

Bill gets the speargun from Rond, and has two arrows with him. "Rond, watch to see where the arrows go if they miss." He gets about twenty feet away from the target for the first attempt, and only ten feet on the second. [DM, help - did either hit?] He swims to retrieve the arrows.

DM
Friday August 13th, 1999 8:30:03 AM

Rond watches Bill's shots ast they just clip the sides of the target the closer fired one ricochets off into deeper water the one fired from further away, sticks in to the edge of the target, it was just about out of ummph. Just after the others get to the Inn and get settled, a wiry elf wearing a GREEN cloak and with a long bow slung over his left shoulder enters. He looks road weary and in need of rest and a bath. (it is now right at 2:00 PM

Sedar the Mage
Friday August 13th, 1999 11:27:05 AM

Welcomes his friends "Come sit ... foods good ... try the wine," Notices the tired elf, but says nothing, just nods in the direction to get his companions to take a look.

Branze Bones
Friday August 13th, 1999 11:27:06 AM

::keeps eye on the new stranger:: "I hope they get here soon with the list so we can make haste to getting that head back." he says as he eats a light meal of soup and hard bread.

Draax
Friday August 13th, 1999 11:27:07 AM

"Thanks Sedar I am hungry." Draax takes a sit at the table with Sedar expecting the others to sit also and begins to realize just how hungry he is. "With all the shopping and watching the target practice on the beach, I forgot all about lunch. What do they have that is already cooked?" As Sedar nods, Draax follows Sedar's eyes to the stranger in the green cloak. He whispers in a low voice. " I wonder where he is coming in from." Draax openly looks at the stranger and if the elf looks toward Draax, he will extend a greeting to the road weary stranger. "Greetings"

Friday August 13th, 1999 11:27:08 AM

Bill swims to retrieve the ricocheted arrow, and manages to find it [rolled odd]. He comes up for breath, and grabs the other two. He backs up to fifteen feet from the target, and finally gets a solid shot off, nicely hitting the targe. His head pops up. "Did you see that?! Got it good!" He pulls out the arrow, takes a few minutes to detach the ropes, and swims in using the target as a float. He recoils his rope with the grappling hook, puts his shed clothing back on. He agrees with Rond. "You have to be kinda close, but that last one felt good. Let's get two spearguns, and a bunch of arrows, okay?" Should Rond agree, Bill will head to Ruthat's place, pay for two spearguns ("Or should we get three?" he asks Rond) and 30 arrows, then join the others at the inn.

Arien Silverbow
Friday August 13th, 1999 11:27:09 AM

starts when he hears the greeting. Looking around he sees the stranger that spoke. "Greetings to you too, allow me to introduce myself. I am Arien Silverbow, I am fellow adventurer. Tell me, are the rooms good here and how's the food. I'm pretty tired and could use a good meal." The smell of the food reaches Arien and he grimaces as his stomach growls.

Rond
Friday August 13th, 1999 12:34:24 PM

"I think these will be fine for now. Probably should join the rest of the group, and see what's going on" (agreeing with what was posted before, about getting these 2 and then heading towards the inn.

Draax
Friday August 13th, 1999 12:34:25 PM

"Hail and well met Arien, my name is Andraaxius Slowblade, Draax to my friends. These are few of my friends and associates." Indicating the group at the table with him and Sedar. " I will let them make their own introductions. The rooms are nice and the food here is quite good, I was just about to order some myself." Draax looks to the others for approval before offering Arien to join them for a meal. "So where are you coming from, if you don't mind me asking? From the looks of you it must have been a long journey."

Sedar the Mage
Saturday August 14th, 1999 10:55:16 AM

"sure, by all means sit down and join us .." The 1/2 elf states top the newcomer. "Draaxx is quite right about the food and logings here, ... sit down please, .... Sedar" he reaches a hand to the newcomer in greetings.

Arien
Saturday August 14th, 1999 10:55:17 AM

takes a seat as he ponders where to start. "Well lets see, I was a part of a lucrative business situation, at least it was lucrative until things started going sour. Well it turned out we had a traitor in our midst. Well unfortuanetly for me I was framed. So being accused of being a traitor I decided it was time for a vacation and left. Well my former partners didn't like me leaving so they decided to come after me. To make a long story short, I lost them in the woods and was on my way when I lost my horse to a bloody Wyvern. It just swooped right out of the sky and carried it off so I've been on foot for the last week and a half. But now it appears my luck just might be turning around." Arien shifts in his seat a little and realizes he's only introduced himself to Draax. "I say, I forgot you fellows entirely. Pardon me, I was just feling a tad sorry for myself and well anyway I'm Arien Silverbow, pleased to meet you all."

Branze Bones
Saturday August 14th, 1999 11:39:50 AM

"So, what does a Wyvern look like, what was your horses name, and why have you decided to come and chat with us?" he says with a stern face. "So did the Brother Hood of Doom send you to spy on us, or are you working for the dragons. Your timing in Showing up is a might to convienant." he says as he keeps focused on the elf as he awaits his words.

Arien
Saturday August 14th, 1999 6:02:42 PM

"You mean you've never seen a Wyvern? Well then they're beastly lizards. They have wings of course else how could they fly. They had great big large nasty teeth that can rend your flesh in a moment. They're positvely covered in scales, I shot at the thing a few times and my arrows just bounced off its hide. My horse's name? Why would you want to know about poor old Wind Dancer? Not much left of that poor fellow I should say 'cept maybe a bone or two. Oh poor old Wind Dancer, I always liked that horse. Brotherhood of Doom you say well they sound like some nasty blokes, I'd not want to tangle with them I tell you. Dragons!! What Dragons?!?! Is it a rich one? I'd sure like to get my hands on a part of a Dragon Hoard, why then I could retire in style. Live the rest of my life in luxury. I can see it now a grand mansion, thousdands of servants at my beck and call why... ahem yes... well no I'd not work for any dragon I tell you the temptation of all that money why I couldn't handle it I tell you after all they are greedy beasts and well I hate to admit but I am fond of coin myself. If you don't want to talk to me I could move to another table after all, no need to bne where one isn't wanted, yolu just looked like a fellow who knew what was going on around here and I wanted to catch a little of the news to see if there were any possible business ventures thats all."

K'isst
Sunday August 15th, 1999 12:33:40 AM

K'isst orders some of what the others are having and nods at the newcomer. She is lost in thought as she gobbles her food. She looks up Grog and asks him, "Innkeeper, we need to find some means of breathing underwater to go after that Sentinel Head. Do you have any ideas of where we should go to find such things?"

Bill T
Sunday August 15th, 1999 3:00:39 AM

"Mr. Ruthat, sir, we're back. The speargun works great! We'd like to buy this one, and another one. Also, how much are they, and how much do the arrows for them cost? We'd probably want to buy about 30 arrows. Do you have special quivers for them? Maybe we should get 40 arrows, instead."

Galahad Quivelio
Sunday August 15th, 1999 3:45:02 AM

Galahad sits beside K'isst, and orders some of the inns best wine. Looking at K'isst, he notices the distressed look on her face, "What might you be pondering about my good lady? Is it because we have not found any underwater devices for the water yet? I will pray to Alemi tonight, and ask a few questions, in hope that he will reply with the answers we seek." Taking the wine that the barmaid has brought him, Galahad pays his fee, and then sits back in his chair and listens to the conversations going on around him.

DM
Sunday August 15th, 1999 3:03:56 PM

Bill and Rond make it back to Ruthat's just as the girl you saw earlier is exiting, infact she all but bumps into you as you enter. "Oh my, excuse me gentlemen. Oh you are whom I was going to see. I have a list for you and....Oh you liked the bows..... ::Ruthat bustles up:: Ok Missy give them the list and get back to your work. Ah well I guess you didnt want to wait until three, so two spearbows and 40 arrowspears, I'll throw in the quivers and half of the arrows for 65 gold. At the Inn, Arion is gathering quite a number of onlookers and listeners as he talks about the Wyvern, and his mention of Dragons gets a few warding signs and even more comments like Ahh, there aint no more dragons, they're all dead. And even a few comments like, yeah just think all those dragon hordes just laying there for the taking...all that gold. K'isst's question to Grog gets a thoughtful look and then a short answer of, Well, there's Ruthat of course but I think mostly the church, maybe Capt. Bearclaw, or some of the council members. or you might try the House of the Cyrstal Sphere. The other option might be to check with the under water fishermen. they are usually down near Dagger Rock and the Pier. Of course if Duke Ryanno hasnt left yet you might try his folk at their festival campsite. Oh, of course there is that Tristen Runilar, he might have some ideas. Though he can be a bit touchy at times and doest care for me at all.

Bill T
Sunday August 15th, 1999 3:29:12 PM

"Wow! Thanks for the list Missy, Mr. Ruthat. It's not that we didn't want to wait until three, but that we finished trying out the spearguns and were so excited we couldn't wait. Well, I don't know, maybe you could've waited, Rond?" Bill looks over the list to see what it says. "Sixty five gold for spearguns, two quivers, and half of the 40 speararrows? Okay, but how much are the other half of the arrows?"

Galahad Quivelio
Sunday August 15th, 1999 4:17:08 PM

Galahad gets up from the table that he was sitting at and speaks to K'isst, "I must pray to Alemi for some answers." Going to his room, Galahad quickly opens the window, and kneels at the floor, "God of Truth, Justice and Leadership, please answer my call. I know I have not prayed to you of late, for this, I am sorry. I have been quite busy helping my new found friends in their quest to help these town people, for they know not what they get themselves into. This is why I call upon you tonight. I must know, Alemi, the Supreme God of New Elenna, where might we find such devises that will alow us to breath and act underwater as if we were on land? Give me a sign dear Father. I ask for your hand in this time of confusion." Galahad finishes his praire, and then waits.

Sedar the Mage
Monday August 16th, 1999 7:44:01 AM

Takes in the conversation with the newcomer , quite interested in Triple B's idea ' ...it may have some merit.'

Rond
Monday August 16th, 1999 12:27:59 PM

"The gear will be here a little longer, we could always go find the others, and get this list of things taken care of. We should probably check in with the rest of the group and see what's going on."

Branze Bones
Monday August 16th, 1999 12:28:00 PM

::waits for the list:: "Kisst if you could share that with all we can quickly make are preparations and leave. If this Wyvern has broken through, perhaps so soon will the dragons when they realize the barrier is down.

Bill Troublefinder
Monday August 16th, 1999 2:36:26 PM

"Ah, you meant, I think," Bill says to Ruthat, "that for 65 gold, which would cover two spearguns and twenty speararrows, you're also included the two quivers and another twenty speararrows for no additional charge? If I understand correctly, thank you very much, and here's 65 gold pieces for you." Turning to Rond, he says, "Yes, you're right. Let's get this list to them, so we can decide together!" Taking his speargun, quiver and 20 missiles, Bill heads out with Rond. Over his shoulder he calls out, "Mr. Ruthat, we'll see you later! Bye, Missy!" And walks briskly back to the inn.

K'isst
Tuesday August 17th, 1999 11:55:02 AM

"My gratitude Master Grog. That's quite a list, but it's likely what we need." She offers to tip him a few gold for his help. She turns back to the group. "I've have quite a list of places to check for the underwater gear etc. we need supplied by Mr. Grog here. I'm wondering if we should post a notice of what we're looking for and have all likely sellers approach us here. That might be faster. Also, I was concerned that we should do something to convince the council to take a more active stance on all of this. If the dragons come over the border, this town is going to be hurt bad. I wonder if there is a place of safety they can go to?"

Arien
Tuesday August 17th, 1999 11:55:03 AM

::listens to the others at the table:: "Broken through what? What barrier? Why should dragons play any part in this at all? What's so important about some head that you have to go underwater for it?"

Draax
Tuesday August 17th, 1999 11:55:04 AM

Listens to the talk around him and to a grumbling sound that he realize is his stomach. Looks around to get the attention of anyone serving food. "Can I get something to eat and drink please?"

DM
Tuesday August 17th, 1999 11:55:05 AM

The serving girl responds to Draxx's comment with a slight shake of her head and then heads over to the table to see what she can get for those not already eating and drinking. At about 2:45 Rond and Bill enter the inn carrying the 2 spearguns and full quivers. About that tima as well the serving girl returns with food and drink for all, smiles and heads off to another table and then back into the kitchen. the list Bill and Rond bring back is basically the same but there is one name added, That of Ezmerelda Fipps. the major difference in the lists is that Ruthat's includes what the item was that he sold to the person. (will send email out)

Rond
Tuesday August 17th, 1999 12:14:40 PM

"So what have you guys found out?!"

K'isst
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 9:18:09 AM

"Grog gave me a list of places we could shop for underwater gear and magic. So if the list doesn't pan out we can try those places. That's all I know." K'isst turns to Bill. "Seeing you for some strange reason makes me think of pie." She turns to the waitress. "Do you have any pie?"

Branze Bones
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 9:18:12 AM

"THis is no time to laugh." he says with a stern face. "Let us go to each place on the list and gather the items with the coins we have left." he says as he stands up and motions to the door for the otehrs to follow.

Draax
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 9:18:13 AM

As the serving girl bring the food. "Thanks, you are a lifesaver, I am starving." Draax takes a peak at the list while stuffing his face with the food that was brought. In between mouth fulls draax tries to talk. "I agree with brother Branze we should get to that as soon as I finish eating." He continues to eat the meal placed before him, humming to himself.

DM
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 5:20:44 PM

At roughly 3 O'clock and as you are all finishing eating you hear a horn blowing in the near distance which is suddenly cut off in mid blast. About two minutes later you hear many screans of terror coming from outside the inn and every so often the windoes go dark as something blocks the sun. A woman rushes in through the door, with a child in her arms that is covered in blood, screaming the DRAGONS have come, we are all doomed and then she collapses.

Rond
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 5:26:51 PM

K'isst
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 6:39:00 PM

K'isst, used to being obeyed in emergency situations at home, wheels on Grog. "Do you have a cellar? Get everyone down there now! Please! If one of those beasts decided to perch here or breath here or whatever else they do, people will die!" She draws her sword then and races outside with Rond. She wears a face of calm terror.

Branze Bones

Draax
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 6:39:02 PM

Draax Hears the word Dragons and quickly looks up to see everyone running around panicking. After seeing Rond and K'isst running toward the door. Draax grabs his gear and runs after them. "Great just Great."

Galahad Quivelio
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 11:32:06 PM

Galahad, hearing the comotion outside (Through his open window), quickly gathers what little gear he has, and heads outside, only to find that K'isst, Draax, and Branze have gathered together, looking into the sky. "What is going on? All I heard was a woman screaming. Is something wrong?" Galahad quickly scans the area for any signs of danger.

Sedar

Bill T
Thursday August 19th, 1999 12:35:43 PM

He concurs with K'isst, and encourages the people at the inn to head into the cellar. "Grog, it might be a good idea to put water on the roof and the outside walls, if you can get some people to help. I'm going outside to see what's happening. The rear exit is this way, right? My friends are checking the front, I want to check the other side." Bill heads out the back door to see what he can see from there.

DM
Thursday August 19th, 1999 3:47:19 PM

those of you who are outside or have gone outside, see nothing but a few very dark clouds passing over, the few pannicky people in the street have quieted down and are looking up at the sky. Others are coming out from buildings saying, "Where are the dragons", I want to see the dragons", I told you the dragons arent real, they dont exist." A few moments later a couple of the militia come rushing up from uptown, breathing hard and half armed, " Ok where are they".

Bill T
Thursday August 19th, 1999 8:06:29 PM

Bill runs back into the inn, to the woman who collapsed with the blood-covered baby. He gets out a healing potion. Checking over the baby, he checks to see if it is alive. He will dribble some of the potion into the infant's mouth. Based upon what he observes, he will give the child more if it seems appropriate and helpful (but no more than a third to a half of the vial, as he does not want to administer an overdose to such a wee one). He also looks at the woman to see if she is injured. If so, he'll use the remaining portion of the potion for her benefit.

Galahad Quivelio
Thursday August 19th, 1999 9:42:34 PM

Galahad looks out into the sky in thought, "If there are dragons, that means that there must be a lair of some sort. A lair filled with magical items of all kinds." Still in thought, Galahad tries to straighten his mind to be more realistic.

K'isst
Saturday August 21st, 1999 7:57:18 AM

Saturday August 21st, 1999 7:57:20 AM

As Bill checks the girl he sees that all the blood seems to be coming from a shallow scalp wound that looks like it was caused by a large bird, Nothing very serious and will easily heal by itself in severl days. The woman has no apparent wounds and looks like she passed out from Hyperventilation. Those still outside see no sign of dragons at all. When you get to the signal horn near sentinal point you find the four guards. One has a wicked scalp wound which looks like it was inflicted by a large bird of pray. The other three are tending his wounds and laughing at the wounded guard. How could you mistake those eagles for dragons? and then to fire on them...hahahah... well I guess they showed you. And then blowing the horn like that... The captain is going to have your hide, or at least as much of it that the eagles left you. Hahahahahahaha (the guards have obviously been hitting the alcohol and are quite tipsy)

I could have posted earlier if I had my laptop but alas, it looks like I'm gonna need to use the warranty on it cause the hard drive is busted)::Crawls out from underneath the table.:: In his exhausted state Arien's first response to the women's screaming of dragons was panic. "I must be more tired than I thought" Arien thinks to himself as he retrieves his bow. Arien walks outside with a knocked arrow (just in case) and walks over to where his new aquatances are. "Ok exactly why is everyone here so scared of dragons, odds are you'll never see one. I mean I know that story about the wyvern probably scared these common folks but that woman never heard it. I plan to start a business here and I don't want any dragons or whatnot ruining it so I'd like to know what is going on here."

Draax
Saturday August 21st, 1999 8:07:23 PM

Draax looks over at Arien surprised to see him. "I was wondering what happened to you, I thought you ran out the back with some of the others. Well about the dragons, most people are scare of dragons because of the city's ancient history. I am not sure of the whole story you will have to ask one of the local for the exact facts and history. The only thing that I am sure of is that the statue that was stolen was supposed to be a ward against the dragons' return. Now that the head is gone, some believe that the dragons will return. Wish I could stand here and talk to you all day, but I have to catch up with my friend. After you rested or do whatever you need to do, maybe we could chat again, I would love to here about your travels." Draax hurries to Tristans Rulinars home trying to catch up with Brother Bones.

Seeing the baby's scalp wound is superficial, Bill will go ahead and place a few drops of the healing potion on the wound, but save the bulk of the potion. He wipes the blood off the baby. He elevates the mother's feet, and tries to make her comfortable. "Ma'am. Um, Ma'am. Your baby is all right now. The attack has stopped. Hello." If she begins coming around, he will do what he can to sooth her, and ask, "What did you see out there?" If she mentions dragons, he does not discount this, but comments, "There are reports of many eagles," and gauges her response to this.

Arios, we haven't turned down anyone yet. We seem willing to take on anyone who wants to risk their lives each and every moment of their existance. [weak grin] I know the last few days, it's been non-stop. I don't know about before then. This group hasn't been together a week yet." She sits at a table and thinks. "Yaknow folks, there has to be something to that head. If it was of no importance, why did the Sea Devils steal it? It was important enough for them to risk their lives. The legends say that most dragons are locked up magically in Dragon Bay here and that this Sentinel here along with others elsewhere, keep the dragons "at bay" so to speak. I wonder if the Sea Devils have had their fill of the creatures and stole the thing to get rid of the dragons? Or did they steal it for it's powers? Whether it really protects the town and parts west and south from dragons or not is interesting but not as important as the fact that the thing is valuable enough to steal. That means it doew have power or importance. This town is known for it's "crises" times. This seems to be a continuation of that Mengor thing." She then calls for a drink and thinks a bit more.

"What is all this i hear about Dragons? Branze gets about to where the directions he could find told him and as he is about to step onto the wooded path an elven voice from above and behind calls out. Can you give me one good reason why I should let you live? This is my land and i dont want to be disturbed.

You want to try and kill me any go for it, ill laugh from the heavens as i watch your own action destroy your home. We are trying to regain the sentinal and need to breath water. We where told you had a item that was capabale of such. I can offer in return a potion that allows you to climb some gold as well as my flying disk. Bill tells the distraught woman, "My, oh, my. I'm sure their claws were big. But look, ma'am, your baby is okay. Uh, what's your baby's name? Look, no more bleeding! It was just a scratch, thank Donyra, or whoever you want to. Here, Mama, just rock your child a bit ... yeah, dearie, calm down. It's okay, your mama's with you..." / Bill steps over to Capt. Bearclaw. "Hello, sir. This woman here reported seeing dragons with, uh, big claws. Her baby had a slight wound on the scalp, but should be okay. We saw the light into the tavern darken once or twice, as though a large, uh, something blocked some of the light. Folks on the streets say it was eagles. We didn't really see anything directly ourselves."

Tristen :: drops out of the treesbow and arrow in hand:: So they have come to their senses and are going to send someone after the sentinel head after all. That is good news indeed. ::heavy sigh:: I was afraid that they were just going to ignore the legends as being old wives tails. Even so, it would be nice to be asked for aid as opposed to being intruded upon. ::mutters:: but that is humans for you. So you want to borrow my old cloak? Well I'm not at all sure it is fully functional, but you are welcome to borrow it, though I do expect its return. If you lose it, well, You can either choose to replace it or pay me what I, myself, paid for it. Is that fair enough? Drax catches up to Branze during his conversation with the Tristen.

It may be that no dragon attack has yet occurred, but we think that we must not wait too long before recovering the head of the Sentinel." Bill quickly lets him know the suggestions given so far on who may have artifacts useful to their quest. "Do you have, or know of who else might have anything to help us survive and fight in the underwater domain?" / Bill will listen to Bearclaw's response, and suggest the party go forth in pairs to speak to the various parties. "Oh, and Captain, is there anyone else who might help us 'gather the goodies' quickly, so we can make haste to help our fellow citizens and thwart our foes?"

"Thanks, K'isst," he blushes. Looking at the list, Bill the halfling addresses his friends. "Hey, what if we do this? Maybe, Rond, you and I can visit the Hag at The House of the Crystal Sphere - she has a broach. And maybe the Chapel of Mittiri for potions? Oh, there's Ezmerelda Fipps and her ring. / How about Sedar and Arien look up Duke Ryanno at their festival campsite about the First aid chest? Hmmm, looks expensive! When you're done there, do you think it would be a good idea to swing by Berik Andovin's place, and ask about his Bracelet of - of whatever? / And K'isst, you want Galahad to go with you, then? Sounds good. How about if you go talk to the underwater fishermen by Dagger Rock and the Pier for the trident, or whatever else they might have? If you have time, you could see what kinds of rings Lothar has. / Where are Branze and Draax? Well, I'm sure they're busy doing something or other. / There's that Tristen Runilar with the manta ray cloak. Say, Capt. Bearclaw, if you see Branze or Draax, could you ask them to look up Mr. Runilar? Hey, did you know your name is on this list that Mr. Ruthat gave us? He said you might have something that could help us. Do you want to come along?" Thursday August 26th, 1999 7:43:24 PM

Draax comes upon Branze and Tristen just as Tristen says 'You can either choose to replace it or pay me what I, myself, paid for it. Is that fair enough?' Draax cuts into their converstion " Hey, Branze, I am glad that I finally caught up with you, sorry to interrupt you conversation. From what I gathered on my way here, the attack on the little girl was actually eagles." Draax turns to Tristen. You must be Mr Runilar, well-met sir. My Name is Andraaxius, by what I caught of the conversation you are having with me friend Branze here. He must have already told you about reason that we sought you out. Your offer sounds more than fair to me sir. I am sure that the other members of our party will agree also. May I inquire to how much you paid for the cloak?"

And rumors of dragonkin attacking horses have already been heard. Your cloakk wil be returned to you, unless you and i as well as Draxx could come up with a fair price that it could be bought at.

Tristan  d20=19
Friday August 27th, 1999 10:42:24 AM

Just as Draxx is finishing his comments, Tristan rapidly turns and fires and arrow towards Draxx which passes just by his left shoulder and skewers an egglpant sized black spider that was about to land on Draxx. Returning his attention to Branze, well alright then you leave your disk as collateral and agree to replace the cloak if necessary and I will lend it to you. As for cost,I do not want to sell it but if you can not return the cloak the replacement fee is 13,000 gold. Where are you staying so that I may send it to you this afternoon?

I am on that list? Hmm I can't imagine why.... oh wait you are right. I had completely forgotton about that glass helm. I bought it about 10 yers ago in order to help set up some underwater defenses. The various groups go their own ways on their scavenger hunt. K'isst and Galahad head off to the pier and dagger rock. As they arrive where Old Wood Creek widens to river width, there in the middle of the creek is a large granite shelf that seems to be about six feet below the surface and in the middle of that sticking upward out of the water is a 30 ft tall granite dagger that appears to have driven into the rock below. Along the edges of the creek and in the water itself are several fishermen.

Staring in amazment at the huge dagger constuction sticking out of the water, Galahad turns to K'isst, "Now that is amazing. I have never, in all my days walking this Realm, seen something as magnificant as that. That would have been an interesting project to overcome.-" Looking at all the fishermen - "We'll K'isst, where do you think we should begin?"

If you can sned the cloak there, i will await it as i plan to be under the waves shortly after the group arrives with the manners of goods." he says as he hands over his disk and begins to walk towards the beach. "Well Draxx, lets hope the others have some sucess. Say should we go to the next sight to ensure you get a way to breath as well?"

Draax
Friday August 27th, 1999 6:14:02 PM

Draax see Tristan turn in his direction and let loose an arrow. Just as Draax is sure his life is about to end, he hears the spat sound of the arrow going into to the spider. He looks and the spider and then back to Tristan. Taking a big swallow. "Uh, thanks, I think?" Still picturing the arrow coming at his head, Draax barely listens to Branze as they walk. "Yeah sure, find, breath, well ok" After about five minutes of walking Draax snaps out of his trance and comes back to reality. He turns to Branze as they continue to walk. "Hey, now that you have your water device, maybe we sure head for one of the people on the list to get me something. How about this Lothar person and the 2 rings?" Draax wonders why Branze is looking at him like he is crazy.

Bill T

Draax ponders Branze's suggestion about the name of the adventuring group. "Hmm, The Head Hunter. You know, that does sound too bad, in fact I actually like it. I don't know what the others will say, but I think The Head Hunters fits this group of our well, especially with current mission that I think we will be undertaking." As K'isst and Galahad stare awe struck at the giant granite dagger, they are also aware of the fisshing activity going on around them. while most of the fishermen are using poles and lines, there are a few net fishermen, one or two spear fishermen and even a fisherman using a bow. It is at this time that there is commotion at the far side of the pier and a man you recognize as Leif Delerin surfaces from under water carrying a trident and a very full bag of what you can only assume must be fish. ""arghh that took longer than it should have today, but I have all I need for the week. Maybe I will see if Jack Whitham wants to purchase any for the inn."" It will take Branze and Draxx a little while to get back to town and get to Lothar's home. It is a nice house and as you reach to knock the door opens and there in front of you is what appears to be a house keeper. Sedar and Arian get basically the same answers to their questions. "well since the sentinel ceremony was interupted, it don't seem to be any reason to continue the celebration and fair now does it. So we are all going home." As for the Duke, He aint xactly broke camp yet. there was somwut of a sturbance near his pavillion. slikely hell be heres awhile yet. but its oer that way, cant miss it. Rond and Bill get to the seedier part of town and get more specific directions to their destination, from a lad that kind of looks familiar for some reason. As you turn to leave bill feels a small hand dip into one of his pockets.

Galahad Quivelio
Tuesday August 31st, 1999 6:37:58 PM

Galahad taps K'isst on the shoulder, "I believe that is the man we have to talk to here. Well we may as well get this over with." Galahad leads the way over to Leif Delerin and greets him, "Hello there friend.-" Looking at the fish he is carrying- "That is quite a catch you have gotten there.-" Gestering towards K'isst,- "My friend and I were wondering if we might have a few minutes of your time. As you may or may not know, the Sentinel Head has been stolen by the Sea Devils. Our group is currently in the process of retrieving the Head for the people of Windhorn, but we have a major problem. It seems we need to collect underwater breathing devices to allow us to follow those whom have stolen the Head. This is where you come in. We have collected information that you hold a valuable item that would allow us to overcome the water, and we were wondering if we might "borrow" it from you, or even purchase it from you if need be. I understand, from what I have just experienced, that your item is a huge factor in your business, but we are willing to make some sort of deal, like maybe pay you for the business that you lose while we use your underwater device. Whatever the case, your item is of great need for this adventure, and I'm sure that our group is willing to do almost anything for you, in return that you lend us your device." Galahad then waits to see what effect his speech has on the man. Turning to K'isst, "Is there anything you might like to add?"

"As we will not be able to speak under water, these signals will most likely save are lives. Once arriving at Lothars home branze knocks . Once Lothar answers "Sir we have heard from the merchant Ruthyat, that you had a item that allowed magical breathing underwater. To continue the clebration and assure the sentinal is restored we need to borrow or by this device. So the Headhunters may return the Sentinal to its full stature.

Draax
Tuesday August 31st, 1999 11:47:17 PM

Draax watches as Branze shows him some hand signals used for silent communications. He notices that most of the signals were already familiar to him or easy to learn. "Yeah these signal will come in handy, even when we are not under water." After arriving at Lothar's with Branze, Draax waits for the housekeeper to get Lothar and for him to respond to Branze's question about borrowing the ring(s). If Lothar agreed to lend the party the item(s), Draax will inquire about what each items does.

Placing his hand around the wrist of the boy, and keeping his other hand free to deal with whatever the boy's other hand may attempt, Bill smiles at him and says, "Hey, chum, have you heard that possession is nine tenths of the law? And I've got your hand, and whatever is in it, kiddo." He withdraws the lad's hand, recovers whatever is there, and says, "My name's Bill. What's yours? I think I've seen you around," keeping it friendly. He also quickly glances around to see if there may be accomplices or other interested parties. "I may have forgotten to reward you for your directions. I feel generous today," he says, "so this is for you." He places a gold piece firmly in the hand he still holds, gently closes the boy's fingers over it, and lets the hand go, waiting to see the would-be pickpocket's reaction.

K'isst
Thursday September 2nd, 1999 8:38:49 AM

"Oh, sorry Galahad, I was thinking ahead about the best ways to fight Sea Devils. Sir, I think this is more of a rescue mission than an adventure although I'm sure it will have it's moments of excitement. The Town of Windhorn needs the Sentinel. Whether it reall protects the town from dragons or not, the town believes it does. Some are already talking of leaving and the visitors for the festival leaving early can't help sell fish can it? We need to borrow that trident. Think of the advertising. Buy your fish from the person that made the return of the head possible! Also, please do this out of the goodness of your heart." K'isst smiles shyly at the man waiting to see what he says.

Sedar and Arian follow the directions and easily find the Dukes tent. Sitting on a stump in front of the tent is a middle aged man. He is intent on working on the boots he is cleaning. Bill grasps the boys hand and the boy just basically goes limp. I wasnt trying to take anything, He says. and then he will say nothing more and will not even look at you. As you peer at him you realize he was the lad who was lughing at the ferris wheel. As you keep hold of his hand you see something green and slimy oozing between the boys fingers. Rond as bill is scrutinizing his captive, you have seen the sign to the House of the Crystal Sphere. Lothar's Housekeeper is a bit flustered as Branze starts asking his barage of questions and just manages to croak out, You just missed him he went looking for your group. K'isst and Galahad approach Leif and between the two of them have him quite flustered. It would seem that Leif gets very little attention outside of his cronies and as he listens to what you say a gleam appears in his eye. So you want to use my trident? Well... for a fee and the rental or purchase of another one for me to use I might consider it.

Galahad Quivelio
Thursday September 2nd, 1999 8:38:55 AM

Being one of the newer members of the group, Galahad turns to K'isst, "Well what do you think we should do? It seems this man will not allow us the use of his underwater device without another underwater device that he can use while we use his.-" Turning to Leif Galahad continues,- "Sir, it seems we cannot supply you with another device, atleast to my knowledge. But what my friend and I can do is pay you for the use of your device, and if she agrees, I will perform a Oathbind on K'isst to make curtain you receive your item back as we found it. If you are interested I will explain the Alemi Oathbinding to you."

K'isst
Friday September 3rd, 1999 8:09:45 AM

K'isst gets a gleam in her own eye and says, "That is if it's the trident that lets you breathe underwater like that. If not, then it's what lets you breathe underwater that we would need to borrow. And I do have a trident. A very nice magical trident. So, is it the trident that lets you breathe underwater? If so, I'd like to try it out before making our deal. You could hold mine here with Galahad while I try it out. If not, then please let us know what lets you breathe underwater like that.

Bill T
Friday September 3rd, 1999 8:09:46 AM

In response to Rond's question, Bill indicates the substance oozing from between the fingers of the boy's hand. "Boy, I've given you my name. Now, where I come from, which is around here, it's not considered polite not to return the favor. What is your name? Or, shall we take a trip together to the authorities? I'd prefer we keep this friendly. Putting one's hand in another's pocket, though, it perhaps a bit TOO friendly," he says with a smile. His left hand rests on his lasso.

Waits for the Duke's answer.

K'isst
Monday September 6th, 1999 12:20:03 AM

"My apologies kind sir. I'd be perfectly glad to supply you with another trident (shoots a warning glance to Galahad). By the way, how do you use the trident to breathe underwater? I'd like to try it out here so I don't look foolish when I show it to the others. How does 50gp sound as a reparation for your reduced catch?"

Rond

"Well, it's up to you really. It was you he was going for. Though you might want to ask how algae and eggs are meant to be a trick?!"

The man looks up at Sedar as he starts speaking, Are you talking to me? what makes you think I am the Duke? Imean would the Duke be cleaning and polishing his own boots? I ask you would he? he stops talking and starts cleaning again as you spin your tail. Merik looks over at Rond, then looks to Bill and says he's a bit daft aint he. Frogs eggs and algee stick together in little balls unless squished, put a few balls in someones pocket and walk away and when they stick their hand in their pocket it gets slimed. Now you gonna let me go or what? An' what do yous want wit' my father anyways? Branze and Draxx are pretty darn tired bout the time they run back across town to Grog's and as they reach for the door, to open it, it opens and there is Lothar just getting ready to leave. Where have you all been? I have been all over town looking for you all. Where are the rest of you? Leif stares at K'isst for just a few seconds longer than he would have liked to with his jaw aslack and stutters.. ffifftty ggold, Umm, yeah, recovering quickly, sure that sounds about right, but if you lose it there will be a replacement fee and the fifty gold is for 10 days use. As for how it works, well, whispering, now I don wan this to be jus common knowledge yu know, he leans closer to Kisst's head and breathing his liquored up breath says there is a word yous gots to say fer it to work. He leans closer and whispers "respirate". After listening to Sedar for a moment longer, the man looks up and says "well you know, i dont personally believe in all that Sentinel nonsense of course but my people do and frankly they are not happy right now, and unhappy subjects make for unhappy Dukes eventually. So you all are going after the head are you? And you think that something I might have, some chest, could aid you? Hmm, I m not sure i quite follow your thinking there. Can you be more explicit?

"Lothar...huh huh. welll, huh huuh, we are hurrying aboiut town to gather the Magical water breathing gear so we can get the hea dback huh huh. You have a ring , huh huhu, say Branze bent over trying to catch his breath. "Do you have that ring, then me and Draxx will be ready to stop the panic, continue the cermony.

Draax
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 7:40:30 AM

Draax bends over with one hand resting on the building for support and takes a couple of deep breaths will Branze is trying to talk. " Yes...rings....we....want... to....borrow...from...you. Do..you..still..have." Draax take another deep breath. "The two rings that may help our party retrieve the statue, can you explain to us what each ring does. The rest of our party is around town someway, hopefully they are borrowing other items we will need. We went to your house thinking that we would talk to you there and then ran all the way here when we learned this is where you were headed, that is why we are so tired." While waiting for lothar to answer, Draax takes a few more deep breaths, trying to recover his wind fully.

Galahad Quivelio
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 5:17:30 PM

Galahad watches as Leif whispers something to K'isst. Looking over to her, "Go ahead and try out the trident, I'll wait here with Leif until you get back." Galahad watches admirinly at K'isst as she holds the magical trident.

Tuesday September 7th, 1999 6:42:56 PM

Now you gonna let me go or what? An' what do yous want wit' my father anyways? Bill shrugs his shoulders at young Merik's evaluation of Rond. "Not too daft, I reckon. And yup, I'll let you go. But how'd you like to make some money, and have some fun?" Bill lets go his wrist. "If you want to, and do a good job, I'll put in a good word for you with your father. I'll warn you, though, it may involve some searchin', and some hidin', and takin' some messages. Not necessarily all safe, either."

Bill T
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 9:35:26 PM

Bill looks up at Rond. "I'm sure in several things you could call me that," he smiles good-naturedly. He asks the boy, Merik. "Have you ever been a spy? I have. You want to try it out?"

Sedar the Mage
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 9:51:02 PM

"Kind sir, you know more of what you have than I. I've only heard rumors of things of power that you possess. Perhaps if I tell you that we plan to go beneath the waves of the sea to retrieve the Head. It would help you in knowing which things you have that can help us." The 1/2 elf allows whatever time the Duke needs to think things througth.

Merik looksup at bill excitement brimming over in his eyes, A real live spy, me? sure ill do it what do you want me to do, kill the Duke? steal something from the church?? Hag's place of business is still right behind you. Kisst takes and tries Leif's trident out and for the short while that she is down everything is great. Lothar looking suprised at bumping into them, says I was just looking for you. Oh the rings, well yes how did you know? that was what I was coming to see you about. I have them right here. its not much but I hope they will help in some small way? The duke looks at Sedar for a moment as if questioning his sanity and then says hmm well come inside and take a look and i will tell you about the chest. You enter the tent and see that is sparsely and efficiently furnished several chests on the floor four chairs a small bed a desk and a side table. It is towards this side tablethat he is heading. on this table is a chest, or more appropriately, what appears to be a Human Torso.

Sedar the Mage
Thursday September 9th, 1999 11:11:44 PM

Totally intrigued by what he sees, the mage will appraoch with the Duke to see more of this torso shaped object "my, my, ........ what have we here. " rather speechless, overcome by curiosity, "some sort of suit ?"

Draax
Thursday September 9th, 1999 11:36:37 PM

Draax thanks Lothar for the rings. "Thanks you sir, can you tell us what the rings do?." He shares Branze enthusiasm about getting the rings. "Finally, hopefully the others were as successful as we were."

Galahad Quivelio
Thursday September 9th, 1999 11:36:38 PM

Galahad waits for K'isst to return from underwater. As he watches her walk back towards him and Leif, Galahad calls out, "so how was it? Do you think it's worth obtaining for our use?"

Arien
Friday September 10th, 1999 3:17:16 AM

Arien pretends that he has no interest in the torso but is quickly attempting to calculate the value of such an object. He moves in for a closer look and says to quietly himself, "Quite remarkable really, and quite valuble I'm sure." Turning to the Duke he says, "As my friend has stated we plan to go beneath the waves and retrieve the sentinel head, be the legends true or not the common folk beleive they are. But to be able to rescue the head we need means of breathing underwater. Does this artifact have the power to allow us to, and if so, might we borrow it. We shall return it of course after we retrieve the head."

Bill T
Friday September 10th, 1999 1:57:37 PM

Bill looks around. If there is no one nearby to listen, he'll talk there. If there are ears about, he'll suggest they choose another spot to talk. Then he says, "I think you might have potential. But in spying, there are many things to learn. So, no killing or stealing for now." Bill speaks in a very serious tone of voice, some hardness in his eyes. "I need to test you, to see how you do with simple things. We'll see where you go from there. Understand, Merik?"

He scans the boy's face until he sees a willingness to comply. "Okay, here are the first two things. I want you to get a list together of all the places that people could hide from an attack from the air. An attack by ..." and Bill lowers his voice, and whispers, "flying beasts, maybe even dragons. The more good places you find, the greater will be your reward. So, hiding places for people. Places that can't catch fire will get you a bonus. Got it? Nearby hiding places. Cellars, tunnels, caves, strong stone buildings, whatever.

"Second, I want you to find out what the various members of the militia are doing. Who guards well? Who gets drunk on duty, or sleeps, or gambles? What kinds of rotations are there? How do they relay information?" Bill says, "Now, while you're doing all this, you need to figure out how to keep a low profile. That is, a spy does what he does without making it obvious. So, whadda you think? Hiding places, militia habits?"

If Merik seems to understand, and is willing, Bill will give him twenty silver pieces, and three gold pieces. "This is to help you get some of the information you need. If you have a friend or two you trust, they can help. One more thing. Don't tell anybody you're a spy. Tell them, let's see..." Bill scratches his head. "Ah! I know, tell them you are a researcher for me. Researcher. Safety researcher, if you like. It means the same as spy, but sounds better to people. Say it after me. Re-search-er. Again. Re-search-er. Safety researcher. Good."

Looking more than a bit disapointed that he wont be killing anyone or robbing them blind, Merik is more than willing and happy to do Bill's bidding and even goes so far as to say right off that he new of several cool places. When the money was handed over to him, his hand was trembling so much that he almost dropped it. You're gonna trust me wit all this? As Bill explains what the money is for a big grin spreads over Meriks face as he eagerly nods and say yeah I know all about bribe money. When do you want me to start? K'isst is happy with the Trident and how it works. And Lief is happy with the deal he made. The duke walks up to the tble and reaches to he left side of the Chest and presses something and the whole front of the chest swings open to the right, showing a glistening heart, a lung, a space for a second lung, and a bunch of coiled greyish shiny intestines. Both Arion and Sedar can literally see the magical auras of each body part. Lothar looks at Draxx and Branze and says these rings are both rings of water breathing. To activate them you must turn them one full rotation and say inhale.

Galahad Quivelio
Friday September 10th, 1999 11:52:10 PM

Galahad looks at K'isst, "I am glad that you are satisfied with the trident. Now, I suggest we take a look around here and see if we might find anything else of some use, then we can head back to the Inn and see how everyone else has made. Agreed?" Turning to Leif, "We thank you for letting us use your trident. I'm sure K'isst will make the arangments of the deal. Alemi thanks you good sir, and wishes you all the best."

"Meet me at Grog's Inn this evening, let's say an hour past when the sun sets. If I'm not there, wait for me if you can. When do you start?" Bill repeats Merik's question. "What are you standing here for? Get going!" He turns to Rond. "Actually, I don't think you're daft at all, Rond. After you!" he says, waving his hand toward the entrance to the House of the Crystal Sphere. He follows Rond up the steps [if there are any steps].

Rond
Saturday September 11th, 1999 5:03:44 PM

"I was hoping you didn't think that. But we're going to have to talk sometime about this bribe money stuff" Rond states the previous in a manner similar to mumbling. You're unsure whether he's not speaking up, or complaining ( ;) )

Draax
Sunday September 12th, 1999 4:30:10 AM

Draax thanks Lothar again for rings and for the way to activate them. He heads back to the inn with Branze. "OK, now we know that we have items for at least 3 of us, if the others got items as well, we should be ready to finally go after the head." For the first time Draax actually starts to believe that they have a chance to retrieve the head.

As Bill and Rond enter the shop, the first things they notice are the sweet smell of incense and the hunreds of candles that are lighting the single room. just as their eys are adjusting to the light change they hear a soft gravelly voice say. "Enter Ronderiadshal and Master Troublefinder, I have been awaiting your visit all day. Enter and tell me what I can do for you?" As Sedar and Arion stare at this almost gruesome chest, The duke looks up at them and says. I think that any of these items might be of service to you, The heart will heal any and all wounds upon a body so long as the body with the wounds is not truely dead. The intestines, function as an extremely strong and supple magical rope. But it is the lung that I think might aid you most in your recent excursion. When worn hung around ones neck it supplies all the necessary breathable air needed for survival, no matter if the wearer be under water or surrounded by smoke or even caught in the void. K'isst and Galahad hang around for a few more moments and ascertain that there is nothing else here of interest for them. Branze and Draxx finish talking with Lothar and the bartender and head off to the beach head. Current time is about 5 PM

"Indeed that is a powerful ability. Does the device require any special upkeep or commands to allow it to function or does it have effect constantly?" Arien moves a little closer so that he might examine it better. "What terms are there on this, what must we do to be allowed to take this upon our journey?"

Draax
Tuesday September 14th, 1999 5:48:37 AM

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday September 15th, 1999 11:25:01 AM

Bill marks the longer version of Rond's name she gives him. "Yes, hello." Bill face shows genuine respect. "You must have Sight to know that we were coming, wise Lady of this house," he begins. "Since you knew this, you also must know of the events at the Ceremony, and our intent to retrieve the stolen head of the Sentinel from the sahuagin sea devils under the sea."

Rond

The Hag looks at Bill and then Rond as Bill speaks. Of course I know of what transpired at the Ceremony, but as to intent.... who knows? i know that you wish to help, but I don't believe you realize what it is that you would attempt to do. Know this. As sure as you would help this hamlett, know that impulsivisity will surely get some or all of you killed. That which you disbelieve is real and that which you believe well... may be false. I believe that you have come for my broach? It has not been used in years, not since Atomas was entombed. I suppose it still works. Ah i have spoken to much and your time is limited, though you know it not.

Dm (Hag)
Thursday September 16th, 1999 5:06:13 PM

Terms? Is this a surrender then? bring back the Head and the use of the Lung is yours. I would ask that you try to protect it and return it if at all possible. It is delicate and can be puntured. I would hate for you to be deep underwater and suddenly be sucking water like a fish. I expect you would find that quite.... disconcerting.

After speaking with Bil for a moment, she turns her black whiteless eyes toward Rond and says, don't be so surprised that I know your full name, I know many things that people think that noone knows. Be wary of those you might think aim to aid you. False words ring with the sound of truth to those who do not listen. Be wary, be watchful and most of all be circumspect.

Sedar the Mage

Galahad looks at Branze and Draxx, "Well, you two have done quite good....we have found one device that will probably come in good use.-" Pointing towards K'isst, -"Thanks to K'isst we have received a trident that will allow the user to breath underwater, as well as supplying him/her with a weapon. Quite usefull I imagine, especially where we are going."

Bill T
Friday September 17th, 1999 1:47:42 AM

"Well, if we don't realize what we attempt to do, do you realize what it is?" Bill begins. Then his train of thought shifts. "Oh! I was thinking, too, last night I had a dream about a giant. He was underwater, fighting a big shark. The shark swam around and around, and the giant got encased in stone from his legs on up. He was asking for help, I think. The giant seemed good. Well, it's hard to tell in a dream sometimes..." The hobbit looks up, curiosity on his face. "What do YOU think about our going for the Sentinel's head? It seems like a good idea to us. Do you think it's impulsive?" He listens to her answer. It seems to him like this is a woman who understands much, and he decides to ask her about an incident that bothers him. "Um, something else happened today I didn't like very much. Br... uh, a guy we know put some really really hot metal on two of the sahuagin, to make a mark on them? I didn't feel very good about that. Will something bad happen to me because I didn't stop him? Course, they kinda talked pretty strange and woeful-like. But even though they helped steal the head, and attacked us, I don't think that ... well, it just seemed ... I mean, he explained like it all made good sense ... oh, it makes me feel terrible, anyway." He blushes. He shuffles his feet. Then he asks, "Who is, uh, who was Atomas? Where was he entombed? Was he really big? Did he use the brooch himself, or did somebody use it to try to help him? How does the brooch work? What does it do?" He pauses, to see if Rond has any questions he hasn't thought of. Then he poses his final pair of questions for the moment. "Do you know how limited our time is? Would it be against the rules to tell us?"

Draax
Saturday September 18th, 1999 8:03:18 AM

Draax addresses Galahad, "That is good new, the trident will be very useful in K'isst's hands. Both of the rings that Lothar loaned us are rings of waterbreathing." He holds up one of his fingers to should the ring that he is wearing, while handing the other one to Galahand. "To activate it you must turn it one full rotation and say inhale."

K'isst

K'isst stops by Ruthat's on the way back and buys a normal trident. Then she returns quickly wondering why everyone is so scared of a little rain when they are just about to traverse the floor of Dragon Bay. She takes the normal trident to the fishermen and gives him the 50 gp from her own supply of gold without letting him see the rest. As she turns to go, she asks him a final question, "Just how long does this trident let you breathe underwater? What's the longest time you've spent breathing with the trident? Has it ever stopped working?" She tries to ascertain the time limits of the trident's powers. After this she makes her way to Grog's Inn watching the sky, but not for rain.

Sedar the Mage
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 8:57:08 AM

making it back to the Inn Sedar moves quickly to his room to hid the cloak covered item. After a short time he goes queitly down to see the barkeep for a queit question "Tell me kind sir" smiling as he speaks "would there be a local historian or sage of history of windhorn that could bve spoken to" After asking he will place a few coin on the bar and enjoy a draft awaiting an answer.

At the mention of the treatment the sahuagin recieved, The hag shakes her head and simply says, impulsive deeds come for lack of thinking. The broach is one of freedom under water, It allows a person to move and breathe under water as if he/she were in their normal element. To activate it it needs to be pinned over the heart and then the pearl must be depressed inward. As for the rest, that is part of what you must discover. look for truth in dreams but be wary of being decieved.

The duke looks at Arion and Sedar, as if sizing them up and then says. The lung will work as long as it is worn and needed. when it is nolonger needed or deactivated it needs a full day to recharge. The heart will but work once per week. As for the intestines, I see know practical use for that on this venture but i do not like to separate them from the chest as that is where the items must recharge.

Leif, looks at Kisst and says well I've never had no problem with it though, I taint never tried being under water mor'n a few hours at a time. Later As K'isst, Galahad, Branze and Draxx meet out in front of Grog's, Capt. Bearclaw comes around the corner carrying a just larger than headsized glass bowl. " Ahh good I'm glad I caught you. Here is the helm I told you about. Just place it over your head like a great helm and you are able to breathe normally under water. Just as he finishes telling you about the helm you hear the unmistakable sound of a cart coming up the road. As it comes into view a very familiar diminuative figure is seated next to the cart's driver. The cart is being driven by Berik Andovin. The passenger is none other than Borbo.

Tuesday September 21st, 1999 8:57:12 AM

"May I ask if there is anything we can do for you in exchange for use of your brooch on this expedition? And, is there anything else at all you can tell us about Atomas? I know that it's part of your way to be inscrutable, but my guess is that you mentioned his name for a purpose. And, wise lady of this house, how shall we address you? You know our names..."

Borbo
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 9:46:56 AM

Hopping down from the cart, "Why thank you Berik. Thanks indeed. Sorry about that whole misunderstanding. Now if ever you need anything from don't hesitate to ask. You remember my name? Borbo. Borbo Pastna. I can generally be found in Windhorn. Well, thanks again. I see my friends over there. So, I best be on my way. Goodbye. So long." Borbo wanders over to Bill, "Hey you miss me? What have you guys been doing? Did you go chase those water people yet? You remember the ones that popped up during the ceremony to renew the sentinel and stole the head. I hope you gave them what for. I sure wish I could've been a part of it. What are you guys doing now?... are those intestines?"

Draax
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 11:34:38 AM

K'isst returning to Grog's Inn sees Borbo and gives him a big Trog Hug crushing him to her. Then she calls for Grog and asks for a private room since she's a lady and for a bath to be readied in the room with plenty of extra towels. Then she sidles up to Bill and says, "Hey Bill. Galahad then goes into the inn, sits by the fire (Knowing that he will not be able to enjoy the heat of one underwater) and orders a glass of wine and a plate of food.

K'isst
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:50 AM

"Hmm...." K'isst thinks to herself for a second. I was just discussing with Bill here a plan for testing the items, but Branze is right. I keep on thinking like a princess--someone responsible for other's safety, instead of an adventurer. The safe thing to do would be to test the items before proceeding. The BRAVE thing to do would be to leave now. Let's have a toast and be on our way!

The hag looks at Bill as if she is thinking, and then slowly says, "Young Troublefinder, I have not been called by a name in more years than I remember. I don't even truly recall if I ever was given a name. As for what you can do for the use of my broach is to succeed and remember the words I have spoken." At that point she flips her hand your way and suddenly she isn't there. Bill and Rond head back to Grog's. As Borbo gives his thanks and good-byes to Mr Andovin, Berik draws back on the reins and stops his horses again and says, "Ahh I almost forgot, this is for your use in your venture," and tosses a small pouch to Borbo and then drives onward. As Galahad sits by the fireplace the night shift waitress comes up to take your order. She is a bit flirty and winks at you as she leaves to place your order. Grog looks up from behind the bar as Sedar asks his question. "A Sage? In this backwater hamlet? Not likely. As for Historians check with some of the oldsters if you want local history. You'll find them playing cards every morning down near the market. By the time everyone is back at Grog's it is nearing 7 pm.

Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:52 AM

After hearing Grog's reply "thank you again I think I'll go down and see them tomorrow morn." He then moves over to sit with Galahad to enjoy some wine and dinner. as he sees triple B he "Branze we still need a few more items to make to whole group make it under." then turns back to Galahad "I better game some rest to recover some spell if we are to leave soon"

Rond
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:53 AM

Rond will come into Grog's and pull up a chair. Ordering food of the usual fare, he waits for Bill to relate what they've found.

Draax
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:54 AM

Draax takes a sit at the table in the inn and orders himself something to eat.

Bill T
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:55 AM

Bill takes the brooch the Hag gave them. After they leave her place and are walking to Grog's Inn, he talks with Rond. "She doesn't even know if she ever was given a name? That's amazing. I thought everyone had a name. Y'know, I think a good name for her would be Judith. It seems to be a good name for someone who is wise and brave. Course, it's a good name for someone who's beautiful, too. Well, I can't say she's beautiful, I suppose. But she seems to care, at least. And maybe she used to be beautiful, but just grew out of it, or somethin'. Anyway, she's kind, and that beats looks almost any day in my book." Bill chatters on to Rond as they walk to the Inn. "Oh, I agree with you about the bribe thing. I don't want someone paying somebody money to make them do something wrong. That's just bad. So I shoulda explained that to Merik, I suppose. But you'll have to admit, at least I got him off the idea of stealing or killing for the moment. And, I think it's okay to pay someone to do good stuff. What do you think, Ronderiadshal?"

Bill T
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:56 AM

About to natter on about something else, Bill sees his cousin getting off the wagon. "Scuse me, Rond." He runs over. "Borbo! Borborino! Where have you been all day? You ... what? Have we gone after them? Did someone knock you out? We were talking this morning, and were going to go out shopping, then you disappeared." Bill feels Borbo's forehead. "Hmmm, no fever." He joins all as they enter Grog's Inn. "You go for a hayride?" he asks, pulling a straw off Pastna's back.

Arien
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:57 AM

Arien looks around at the others, "So exactly what are we goin up against, it would help to know so I can plan acordingly. I would also like to thank you all for accepting me into your group, I know how hard it can be to trust people, strangers especially. Well anywho I just wanted a little idea of what I'm going into before I head off for the big beautiful bed waiting for me."

Bill T (at Grog's Inn)
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:58 AM

"Hey, Borbo, that was Berik Andovin, right?" He stares at the back of the man driving his cart off. "More help from the family," he comments to no one in particular.

Inside, the halfling listens to K'isst's whisper. "That tickles," he says at first, and scratches his ear, but then listens to the rest of her suggestion. "Well, yeah, maybe... I'm waiting for someone to show up soon, anyhow."

"We didn't contact Esmerelda Fipps yet. Or go to the Chapel of Mittiri for potions, or the Chapel of Wardd for scrolls. But, the lady of the House of the Crystal Sphere gave us something," and he shows the group the brooch (or broach, if you prefer). "You can move and breathe underwater just fine with it, if you know the trick," he says. "What else did we get? And, can someone check on Esmerelda, and the two chapels before it gets too late? Knock on doors. I've gotta stay here. Waitin' for someone. And, what do you all say about leaving early in the morning? I think we're almost ready, and I agree we shouldn't dawdle, but there are a few more things to do."

Bill takes of big bite of whatever food is about, and washes it down with some ale. "Quick ideas: Waterproof spell pages. Bring fresh drinking water in one and three gallon skins. Branze's idea of a fair amount of rope is good. Ask people to pray for us. Let's get at least one more net. One more speargun, too, plus 20 arrows? Spellcasters, get to sleep early if you can. Do we have any redundancy on underwater survival aids, in case one of our devices goes bad? Any other ideas friends?" Bill looks around to see if Capt. Bearclaw is around, or if Merik has shown up yet.

Bill T (at Grog's Inn)
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 8:37:59 AM

"Oh, one more thing." Bill pulls out a piece of parchment with some writing on it. "With what everyone has contributed, we've got 4,795 gold pieces left, plus everyone who got a reward has 500 gold each for themselves. Unless you spent some I don't know about. Except Borbo - you still have 5,000 gold, because you weren't around to tell us what you wanted to do with it. Ruthat might have a good weapon or something to sell you." Bill nods to Arien. "Hi, I'm Bill. Ask K'isst or Sedar. I'm about talked out." And he attacks his food with zest.

Borbo
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 10:49:34 AM

"5000 GOLD!?!" Borbo sits speechless for a moment, then he looks in the bag from Berik.

Borbo
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 10:50:41 AM

As Borbo sits staring into the bag he asks, "Would someone other than Bill quickly explain to me what's going on and what our plans are?"

Galahad Quivelio
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 5:59:46 PM

Galahad turns towards Sedar, "I agree, I believe I need to do some studying before I get any rest. I have a feeling tomorrow will be a big day, especially where we are going. But for now I think I'll just enjoy this glass of wine and food...."

Branze Bones
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 5:59:47 PM

"I am going to the beech to see if this cloak works and to see if the sea floor holds obvious drag marks we can follow to the head. "He says as he walks out the door of the inn.

Rond
Friday September 24th, 1999 5:18:37 PM

"Well, if you are going to go to the beach Branze, I'll grab something and go with you... so you won't be alone."

K'isst
Friday September 24th, 1999 10:23:27 PM

We should this this underwater thing settled before bed if we can. Sedar, exactly how many items do we have? Have we checked out the merchants here for the Carnival? I can go check out the temples if you like? Coming Gala? She makes the rounds to the temples and then returns as soon as possible.

Borbo opens the pouch and Lo and Behold there is a golden braclett inside. If you look at it closely in the right light it seems to have a porpoise etched lightly on the surface. Those who want to eat may. Those who wish rest and study time may as well. Branze and Rond make their way in the rain to the sentinel beech and just as they get there, they notice there are no guards to be seen, and as they look out over the ocean they see several darts of light in the sky, that almost look like flames. K'isst makes her way to the two temples and for a small donation of 2500 gold, to the churches can get 3 water breathing scrolls and 6 water breathing potions. As Bill mentions Esmerelda Fipps, the waitress pauses and asks What do you want old Ezzy for? She works here, for Grog, you know? moments later this young lad none of you has seen before bumps into Bill, and Bill feels him place something into his pocket.

Sedar the Mage
Sunday September 26th, 1999 12:42:46 AM

Looking thoughtfully upward. The mage replies to k'isst "lets see how many ...hmmmm.. tristan's cloak .... thats one .... the Hags' broach .. two ...Dukes's chest .. ahh I mean lung I guess .. three ... Lothar's two rings ..... thats four and five ..... The Capt's Helm ... makes six ..... the fishermans trident ... seven .... I see Borbo has a braclet ...eight then.... And if we can come by Fipp's item that'll be nine. that covers all of us ..... holy smoke I think we got everything covered, K'isst you mention that potions and scrolls, we can use those as backup then." a smile crosses the 1/2 elfs face as things just seem to have worked out. "I good nights rest to study and I think we can go"

Bill takes a look to see what was left in his pocket.

Draax
Monday September 27th, 1999 2:44:58 AM

Draax sits at the table finishing his meal as he listens to Sedar give a count of the items collected. Since it is a good bet that they will head out the next morning, he bids everyone a goodnight and goes to his room.

Arien
Monday September 27th, 1999 3:15:10 AM

Arien listens to the count of items as he finishes his meal. After he finishes the meal he bids the remaining people good night and goes to his room to study before going to sleep.

Borbo
Monday September 27th, 1999 6:33:06 PM

Borbo slips on the bracelet, and since he's been hearing so much about water breathing, he decideds to check it out. He grabs a big glass of water and sticks his nose down in it and sees if he can breathe water with it or just suck water into his nose and lungs.

Bill Troublefinder

[OOC: Rond, Bill has the brooch. If you asked him for it, he'd give it to you, but ask, "Is it all right with you if I use it when we go out tomorrow? I don't want to be selfish or anything, and if you really want it, I won't argue. But it has something to do with Atomas, and he has something to do with the giant, I think, if he's not the giant himself.]

DM Kent
Tuesday September 28th, 1999 10:22:26 PM

As Rond and Branze are down by the beach the tests seem to go well though Branze is a bit unnerved by the actions of the cloak as it molds to the contours of his body creating a manta ray. Borbo's test goes a bit less well and he snorts a large noseful of water that leaves him hacking and coughing. Bill carefully feels in his pocket and feels two things. One is a bit slimy and proves to be one of the frogs eggs and algae balls, the other is a hastily scrawled note. It says, 'Can't meet being followed have found several places see you as soon as possible.' The others sleep or study as is their wish.

As Bill finishes reading the waitress comes up again and, pointing to an old lady carrying a pile of linens to the back, says, "That's Ole Ezy," and she hurries off. Those at the beach notice many more of those flamelike things in the sky though these seem to be closer than the others. It is now 9PM.

[ooc the intent was to grab an 'underwater' item for testing, so that Branze would not be alone. So I'll end up taking something else}

Bill T
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 3:15:34 AM

[Okay, Rond. Thanks!] Bill slaps Borbo between the shoulder blades a few raps to help him clear out his lungs. "Too much air mixed in, cuz," he says with a bemused smile. After Borbo catches his breath (in the seven to nine timeslot), Bill briefly fills him in on what's been going on, and asks, "What do you think about getting someone to go with you over to Ruthat's place to get yourself just a bit more outfitted? If you want to, get a magic sword, or net, or speargun - Rond and I can kinda show you how to use it. Or somethin' else useful. It's late, but, I'll bet you can talk him into takin' some of your hard-earned money, eh? Up to you, though Borbo."

Bill T
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 3:17:00 AM

"Waterproofing of spell pages, anyone? Any ideas for the benefit of Sedar and Arien and anyone else, like us with the scrolls that K'isst picked up? Eh? Wax? Paraffin? Magic? Who can help?"

"K'isst - would you be willing to ask good Esmerelda Fipps over there about what item she has that might help us?"

Bill T
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 3:25:08 AM

"Captain Bearclaw. Good evening, sir. Busy day, busy day. If you have a minute ... sit down for a moment, if you care to." If he does, Bill begins, "First, thank you for your help, and providing the helmet that one of us might use in our foray." Bill sips on the juice he ordered. "Please, miss, provide the Captain here with whatever he likes." Bill pays for it, with a good tip.

He looks up at Mary's father. His voice drops so that, with the general noise of the inn, only the captain or the particularly keen-eared can hear. [And if the captain knows a private place, Bill is willing to relocate there.] "You know Berik Andovin, of course. Well, his son was introducing me to one of his games. Quite amusing, I assure you." The halfling pulls the frog egg & algae ball out of his pocket to discretely show Bearclaw, then returns it to his pocket. "Anyway, I thought I might put his enterprising spirit to use in defense of the city. He seems adept at moving about the town. He is compiling a list of hiding places in and around Windhorn Hamlet. I'd appreciate it if you would humor me, and keep an eye on the boy. He has capacity for mischief, but that talent might be turned for the good. I've enlisted him as a safety researcher, or investigator of sorts." Bill winks at the captain. "Sense of adventure, you know."

Another sip, and a bite of pie. "Now this might be a sensitive topic, and some of the militia are quite alert, but shortcomings were noted in the diligence and vigilance of a few today. A couple of them might nap off, or get a nip or two while they're supposed to be watchin' the coast. Well, the boy and a few friends are checking into that a bit at my request. Now, I'd meant to run this by you, but this is the first chance I've had. Please forgive me if it seems presumptuous, but I know how you care for the town, and I think you know how I care for it. Anyway, I just learned that someone's tailing our investigator, and was wonderin' if you'd be willing to make sure nothing untoward happens to the lad once we take the plunge. Maybe you can come up with some tasks to keep him busy, if you ken my meaning. Maybe he can be eyes and ears for you, and help figure out ways to keep people safe when, or if, the dragons come.

"The lady at the House of the Crystal Sphere said our time is short. I think part of what she means is that the dragons won't stay far off for long. Anyway, I'm heading outside now to check on the boy's welfare. Thanks for listening." Bill will wait for Capt. Bearclaw's reply, and respond appropriately. "Borb, or Galahad. Want to go for a little walk?" He'll head outside, and look for Merik, or his stalker, or...?

Galahad Quivelio
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 4:31:48 AM

Galahad finishes his meal as a sense of loneliness overwhelms him. In a daze and thinking of the past, Galahad hears Bills offer and agrees to accompany him on a short walk. "I would be glad to join you Bill. I need some fresh air anyways, as well as the exercise." Grinning, Galahad gets up from his chair and follows Bill outside.
