The Explorers
Strange Welcome

D.M.
Sunday July 18th, 1999 9:45:59 PM

As your racked ship floats into the strange harbor you all bask in the first sunshine you have seen in days. The small town comes into view. The walls of the city look old and well worn, but formidable. There is a bustle of activity all around as the townspeople scurry about doing whatever they do to make ends meet. Everyone seem overly happy for some reason, and the valley in which the town sits seems unusually lush and green. Wild flowers seem to be blooming everywhere, and your senses are assaulted with color and smell as your sad ship pulls alongside the dock and is moored tight to the posts.

A dock worker hails you and the crew. "'Allo there; Welcome to Heranmar! From where do you hail, and what cargo do you bring?"

Trace
Monday July 19th, 1999 6:09:59 AM

(Charisma check +1) Trace steps up and throws him the rope to tie off the boat, and when on the dock while gathering his equipment he says, "Hello," back to the dock hand. Trace calls for his dog, Luke, to follow and turns back to the hand and says, "I don't suppose you can tell me where a good inn is. As you can see we had a rough go out on the sea, and I would like to get cleaned up and a bite to eat." Trace looks back to see if the others want to join. (Trace is an Elven Ranger with his guard dog.)

Gniffle
Monday July 19th, 1999 6:35:59 AM

Still a bit seasick from the horrors of sea travel, Gniffle approaches the bold Elf. "Your dog, is he tame? He looks big enough for me to throw a saddle on and ride through the town." Chuckling at his own suggestion, he waits until the dockhand has got the craft close enough to the dock that he won't risk falling in.

Guardian Solomar
Monday July 19th, 1999 8:26:59 AM

Guardian steps onto the dock and takes a look at his surroundings. "Heranmar . . ." He takes a deep breath and whispers a prayer to Alemi. Then, Guardian speaks to the dock worker. "We've come from New Elenna. Our tired bodies are the only cargo, friend."

D.M.
Monday July 19th, 1999 8:01:59 PM

As the dock hand lowers a plank across to the boat he shouts, "New Elenna? Aawwwww no, I've never heard of it! Has the shuffle started already?" With that he darts off, leaving you all alone on the deck of the ship.

Alec Rackshie (Human Mage)
Monday July 19th, 1999 8:15:59 PM

Alec turns to his travelling companions. "That was quite the three hour cruise. I'll be glad to set my feet on dry land again." Gesturing to the fleeing dockhand, he asks, "Who in the Wold has not heard of New Elenna, anyway? We should go into town and find out just where we are."

Gniffle
Monday July 19th, 1999 9:02:59 PM

A slightly disturbed look crosses Gniffle's face. "Yes, we should discover where we are as soon as possible. I don't like not knowing where in the Wold I am. What was that that simpleton said about the Shuffle? Be wary my friends, this place has the stink of fear about it." With that he leaps to the dock, pausing only long enough for the others to follow, and sets off in the direction the dockhand scurried off in.

Guardian Solomar  d20=15
Monday July 19th, 1999 11:47:59 PM

Guardian leaps out of the boat to chase after the dock worker. As he starts running after the man, Guardian begins to feel dizzy. He falls on the dock. Looking up at the sky, Guardian chuckles to himself. "I guess this is Alemi's way of telling me to rest first."

Lithasarin
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 1:44:59 AM

Standing and stretching his legs, the grey-cloaked elf chuckles to himself in a half wheezing manner. "Of course there are people who have never heard of New Elenna; it might be assumed if there is we who know not the name of the city whose docks we stand in. I might suggest not making it too obvious that we are from a place these people are not familiar with, or they might react as did our friend the dock worker."

Trace and his dog Luke
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 4:49:59 AM

Why don't we make ourselves less noticeable and find another way into town? If that guy is going to go and get someone let's not take the same way in, as he is surely going to come back the same way. Let's just walk into town like we already own the town, without drawing attention. As far as we know, the whole town hates newcomers. (Trace readies his equipment and wepons in case of an emergency).

Korvan (Human Fighter)
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 5:15:59 AM

I agree with Trace and Lithasarin; I think we should try not to draw attention to ourselves. I wouldn't want to cause any unnecessary commotion. (I gather my gear and hop off the boat onto the dock.)

Neko
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 5:30:59 AM

Neko shifts his cloak and nods. "So, we walk into the town, act like we know what we're doing, and all is well." He adjusts his pack on his shoulder. He looks at Solomar. "I hope that in our roaming through the town, we stumble across an inn. I think some of us could use some rest."

D.M. (Anthony)
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 8:40:59 PM

The townspeople at the docks have begun to turn and stare as the dock worker pushes his way up the street, mumbling about the shuffle and New Elenna. The town's attention attention is now entirely on you.

Alec Rackshie (Human Mage)
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 9:00:59 PM

Alec casts his Shield spell. He then turns to Lithasarin and Trace. "So much for a quiet entrance. Maybe these people have been attacked by warring neighbors, and think we have come to do battle. We have to let them know that we mean no harm."

Guardian Solomar
Tuesday July 20th, 1999 11:26:59 PM

Guardian smiles at the townspeople, trying to hide his apprehension. On a whisper, he says to Gniffle, "Maybe we should've stayed on the boat."

Sir Thomas
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 12:02:59 AM

After spending the last few minutes throwing up over the other side of the boat, Sir Thomas manages to make his way onto the dock. He heard some of the conversation between throws, and so knows the situation without much detail. "I see no reason that they should mean us any harm; we have done nothing to them. Let's just show them that we are friendly; maybe they'll warm to us."

Fully hoping that the townsmen would be friendly to strangers, Sir Thomas (wearing armor, carrying his backpack in the same arm that he wears his shield at the "ready", and keeping his wits sharp for signs of hostility) walks toward the crowd, placing himself between his fellow adventurers and those that he addresses. (reaction adjustment +7) "Hello there. We have just completed a very long journey and would kindly request directions to one of your local inns. We are in need of rest and good company."

Gniffle
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 2:04:59 AM

Shaking his head at the warrior's straight-forwardness, he turns to Guardian and says in a whisper, "So much for us being inconspicuous. I guess that all people are friendly where old metalchest comes from." He indicates the bold warrior. "Watch your back; simple folk are the most likely to turn on you as rumors begin to fly." Grimacing, he keeps his right hand near the haft of his handaxe while attempting to look inconspicuous.

Korvan (Human Fighter)
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 2:51:59 AM

Korvan whispers to the group, "Well, there went the idea of drawing little attention to ourselves. I just hope the rest of the crowd doesn't react the way the dockhand did."

Trace and his dog Luke
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 6:20:59 AM

Trace just drops his chin to his chest, watching the paladin march up front. But as knowing him better than the townspeople, Trace stands with the warrior to let him know that he is with him. He has his shield on his arm, and is ready at the moment's notice to draw his sword.

Turning back to the rest of the group, he says, "The good thing is that my dog Luke isn't barking or growling yet, and he has a good sense of people."

DM (S)
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 8:12:59 AM

The townspeople start to mutter to each other and point at the newcomers. Trace and Sir Thomas can overhear them saying something about more strangers coming into town. They don't look happy to see you, but make no move to stop you from entering the town.

Neko
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 10:45:59 AM

He sighs and takes a step forward to Trace's and Sir Thomas' side. He mumbles a prayer under his breath to Jancassis. He leans to Trace and says, "Maybe we should just watch our back and make our way through them. Standing here waiting for them to make a move doesn't seem to be working."

D.M. (A)
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 7:54:59 PM

It is interesting, as you are able to think back over the past few minutes. The townspeople did not start looking upset until the party went into a defensive posture; now they seem quite defensive.

Gniffle
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 9:15:59 PM

Sighing at his own stupidity, the little gnome releases his hold on the haft of his weapon. He speaks loudly to the other., "It is obvious that these people mean us no harm."

Singling out one of the people in the front of the crowd, he says, "You sir, I apologize for our rudeness. Surely you must realize that not all ports are friendly ports. It is apparent that this is a friendly port and so we have nothing to fear from you honest folk. My name is Gniffle."

Trace and his dog Luke
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 9:32:59 PM

Trace, taking the advice given, steps past Sir Thomas, making his way through the crowd headed to the town. Smiling a gentle smile and nodding every so often, he taps the back of his leg for Luke to follow. Trace thinks to himself, Like I said, nice and easy like we own the town.

Guardian Solomar
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 10:13:59 PM

Guardian, having kept his eye on the dock worker, walks faster to catch up with the man. "Sir," says Guardian, "it's considered impolite to walk away from a conversation."

Alec Rackshie
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 10:42:59 PM

Alec advances with his party down the dock, doing the best he can not to look menacing. After all, he has only a dagger for weapon, and the shield is invisible.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday July 21st, 1999 11:33:59 PM

Sir Thomas sighs with only a little discouragement at not getting a reply to his polite request for directions to a nearby inn. Then, thinking to himself about the reaction of his friends, he smiles broadly and mutters something about, "See, most people are nice if you are nice first." He then continues forward with the group as they proceed toward town and through the crowd.

As he passes through the crowd (still a little wobbly as he hasn't gotten his "land legs" back yet), he is curious about these people. "You, sir, I am Sir Thomas Hurley, and I would like to buy you a drink at the local inn if you would simply take us there. What say you, my good friend?" He smiles and even chuckles a little to let the man know he means no harm as he extends his hand in greeting, meaning to shake hands with the man.

Korvan (Human Fighter)
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 1:48:59 AM

Korvan follows Sir Thomas through the crowd, trying not to look threating in anyway. When Sir Thomas asks for directions, Korvan stands behind Sir Thomas and waits to see if the man will give us directions to the inn.

DM (S)
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 2:17:59 AM

Solomar walks after the deck hand, while everyone else starts to make their way into town. Solomar catches up with the deck hand, but all the man will say is that there are too many strangers in town.

The man that Sir Thomas spoke to responds, "Just walk down the road here; you can't miss it. But I dont want anything from you. Just leave us alone." He walks off into the crowd.

Gniffle
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 2:56:59 AM

"Not exactly the response I was hoping for, but thank you anyway." Getting a firm grip on his pack, he follows the group towards the location of the inn.

Trace and his dog Luke
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 5:12:59 AM

Trace turns to Sir Thomas and says, "I have a feeling that there are strangers already here. And by the way they are acting, they are not friendly."

Sir Thomas
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 7:25:59 AM

"Thank you very much, kind sir," Sir Thomas replies into the crowd, in the direction the man had gone.

Sir Thomas then turns to Trace. "I'm getting that sinking feeling, too." Then he puts his arm around his friend and points in the direction they need to go to get to the inn, as if prompting his friend to walk with him and begins walking to the inn. "I say, let's go get some dinner and some rooms, maybe ask some questions at the inn, and hopefully keep from rubbing anyone the wrong way. Perhaps we can even find out exactly where we are." Sir Thomas smiles knowing that he just said what everyone else was thinking, and breaks from Trace to walk next to him.

Neko
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 11:34:59 AM

Neko steps quickly in front of the dockhand. "Excuse me, sir. I couldn't help but notice that you're preparing for the shuffle. I was wondering how my friends and I should prepare." Neko folds his arms across his chest, waiting for the dockhand's response.

Guardian Solomar
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 12:01:59 PM

Guardian hangs his head, almost hurt by the comments from the dock worker. "I am sorry we came and spoiled your shores, friend. In the future, when the gods take us back to our home, I will try earnestly to forget this reception."

Guardian glances back at Sir Thomas, having heard the bellowing of his suggestions, and shakes his head. "These other strangers, I wonder where they came from. And if they too behaved like we are."

DM (S)
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 4:49:59 PM

The dock worker looks at Neko, dumbfounded. "You know, the shuffle of people from our neighbor towns that always come down this way around this time, trading their goods. What, did you think it was a dance or something? HAHAHAHAHA! This New Elenia place must be filled with some really simple people." The harbormaster calls to him, so he leaves Neko standing there.

D.M. (A)
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 7:51:59 PM

When you mention the shuffle again, some of the people around you make signs to ward off evil, while others shake their heads and smile like you are all children. Then a thunderclap is heard in the distance, and all heads turn skyward searching the heavens for something. The smiles stop, and the people go quiet as they search. Eventually, not finding what they were looking, for the people go back to their jovial day.

Sir Thomas
Thursday July 22nd, 1999 8:12:59 PM

I walk quietly the rest of the way to the inn, taking time to thank Alemi for watching over us at sea and seeing that we had a safe journey.

Alec Rackshie
Friday July 23rd, 1999 1:15:59 AM

This is beginning to be even more of an adventure than Alec had even hoped for. When he left Plateau City in search of adventure, he had only had in mind a simple quest for gold, such as Dwarf Island. He never imagined he would go to ends of the Wold, where his home would not even be recognized.

Turning to his companions, he says, "We should decide what to do from here on. Do we want to stay here and explore, or try to find passage back to our home? Perhaps we should see the mayor to declare our business, and get some answers. The local inn is only likely to provide gossip and half truths."

Korvan (Human Fighter)
Friday July 23rd, 1999 4:11:59 AM

"I think we should go to the inn for now and get some rest. And who knows? Maybe we might get more than half truths and rumors, and if that's all we get, then we can go to the mayor and talk to him."

Trace and his dog Luke
Friday July 23rd, 1999 5:37:59 AM

"I agree; let's go to the inn first and get some rest and decent food in my stomach. I don't want to see another fish for a good while." Trace and his dog make their way into town behind Sir Thomas.

Neko
Friday July 23rd, 1999 7:49:59 AM

Neko shakes his head and heads in the direction of the inn. He looks over his shoulder at Guardian Solomar. "Wanna check out the inn?"

DM (S)
Saturday July 24th, 1999 7:30:59 AM

As the party approaches the inn, they spy the dock worker and some of his co-workers entering the inn. Above the inn is a picture of a man walking along a path, whistling a tune.

Overhead, dark clouds are begining to gather together. It looks like a big storm is about to hit. Everyone else on the streets begins to disperse and head for their homes.

Gniffle
Saturday July 24th, 1999 10:23:59 AM

With a wary eye upon the darkening skies, Gniffle follows along towards the inn. Before reaching the doors of the inn, he turns towards the party. "That dockworker may have a good heart, but like I said before, 'Rumors fly fast and furious among the common folk'. Let us be on our guard as we go about our business. Maybe I am paranoid, but I have a bad feeling about some elements of this villiage." Making the sign of Wardd, he waits for the party to enter the inn then follows behind quietly.

Neko
Sunday July 25th, 1999 8:18:59 AM

Neko nods in agreement as he passes Gniffle. He steps into the lobby of the inn, and looks around.

Guardian Solomar
Sunday July 25th, 1999 8:22:59 AM

Guardian steps into the inn. He sighs, somewhat tired, himself.

Alec
Sunday July 25th, 1999 6:15:59 PM

Alec walks into the inn and orders himself a meal, as well as a large ale.

D.M. (A)
Sunday July 25th, 1999 9:51:59 PM

The moment the party steps into the inn, thunder crashes outside, and it begins to rain. The party hears sad and angry mumbles.

Mumbles
Sunday July 25th, 1999 9:53:59 PM

". . . sun season . . . over . . ."

"Dark strangers bring dark storms."

"Short season this year."

"Didn't have time to plant all my fields . . ."

"Now we'll go hungry half the winter again . . ."

Sir Thomas
Sunday July 25th, 1999 10:49:59 PM

Sir Thomas walks up to the owner, receptionist, bartender, or barmaid (whoever is around, listed in order of preference). "Hello, it's not a very nice night out." He chuckles a little. "I am Sir Thomas, and you are?" He waits for answer. "It is good to meet you (his or her name). What is the name of this place; it is a very nice inn." Again, he waits for an answer. "That's a good name, and rivals the quality I see. I was wondering if you could help me. I need a room, and am wondering if you had any vacancies, and if so what the price of a room might be? I was also curious about having dinner if you are still serving." He listens to the answers offered, which are hopefully a little more warm than the previous encounter.

Korvan (Human Fighter)
Monday July 26th, 1999 3:00:59 AM

"Wow, we made it just in time! I hope the weather is not like this when we head back out." He heads towards Sir Thomas to see if there are any vacancies in the inn, and to see if they are still serving dinner.

Neko
Monday July 26th, 1999 5:43:59 AM

Neko goes to a window and looks out: sheets of rain pelting the streets. He sets his bag down and glances about the room, hearing the various mumbles coming for the occupants. He asks himself questions: why a town of people are forced to go half a winter without food, and how they survive. And he can't help but catch the comment about strangers bringing bad weather. He looks to the other members of the group, waiting for word on rooms.

Trace and his dog Luke
Monday July 26th, 1999 6:29:59 AM

Trace walks up next to Sir Thomas and looks to the innkeeper. "I would like a room and some food, also. And perhaps a nice bottle of wine, too." Trace reaches in his money pouch to pay for the room and food.

Trace leans on the bar with his elbow and scans the room to see if anyone is watching intently on what they are doing. All the while, he wears a smile.

Gniffle
Monday July 26th, 1999 7:15:59 AM

As the group settles in within the common room and begins asking questions of the patrons, the small gnome finds a quiet area from which to view his surroundings. He searches the faces of those within the inn, and notes all possible exits from the building.

D.M. (A)
Monday July 26th, 1999 8:20:59 PM

There is one exit out of the Inn: the front door. The bartender says that Max owns the bar, and he's not here. They bed down travellers in the common room at night, and it's 1 gold a night, or 3 if you want a bed roll and blanket.

The rain continues to poor harder. The people begin to look depressed and sullen.

Guardian Solomar  d20=17
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 4:41:59 AM

Finding a corner to himself, Guardian slumps to the ground and mumble, "Alemi did not bring us here to hail in the rain season." He looks around for someone who might be a local cleric, (failed check) but he can't tell a bard from a king, the way these people dress.

He looks for Neko, and no matter if he's within earshot or not, he says, "Someone got here before we did and ruined our welcome. I say we find THOSE people. You in, Neko?" Guardian looks at Gniffle. "What about you?"

Trace and his dog Luke
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 6:14:59 AM

Trace hands over one gold piece. He whispers into Sir Thomas' ear, "We need to have someone on watch; that way, none of these fine, upset people walk up and slit our throats. My dog is a guard, but even better that we have a pair of eyes that can protect everyone."

Not getting any type of food from the barkeep, Trace makes his way over to a corner and pulls out some rations for him and his dog.

Gniffle
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 8:20:59 AM

Nodding towards Guardian and Neko, Gniffle makes his way through the inn to one of the tables with a grumbling farmer. "Hello. No, down here. That's better. My name is Gniffle. I couldn't help but hear about your bad season and other woes. What has happened here? Is there anything that I might be able to help with? Maybe a drink might show my good will."

Smiling, he calls for the patron. "Please give this man another round on me."

Turning back to the farmer, he says, "There now, that's much better, isn't it?"

Neko
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 9:09:59 AM

Neko goes to Solomar's corner. "I don't know if the problem with this town is previous visitors, or not. But something does seem to be going on. And if finding out is what you want to do, I'd be interested." He looks around the room. "But where do we start? This place isn't exactly full of people in any particular hurry to talk to us."

Sir Thomas
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 11:36:59 AM

"Thank you kindly for your help, sir. I hope that we will not be too much of a bother." Sir Thomas pays him one gold piece to be able to stay the night.

He then walks to Trace. "I agree about the watch. Let's get together as a group and figure things out." On the way over, he quietly, but loudly enough to be heard by Trace, adds, "Peronally, I think watch in groups of two will not only help keep us awake, but give us a chance to get to know one another better. Also, I think Gniffle has the right idea."

He then walks to where Guardian and Neko sit. "Guardian, Neko, Trace has a good idea about setting up a watch. I'll go first, since I need to clean my armor and weapons and get things back into proper condition, but that will come later. I don't mean to be rude, and I know you have good intentions Guardian, but maybe being loud and obnoxious is not the way to show these people that we are not to blame. Let's all follow Gniffle's lead and go talk to someone to try to figure out what we can. Be patient and EXTRA polite and courteous with these people. Obviously, they don't want us here, so they will all be rude at first, but maybe they have a good reason for this reaction to strangers. If you hit a dead end go a different direction. DON'T get discouraged or angry; surely someone will tell us something. Oh, and generosity is never a bad way to make friends. What do you guys think?"

Farmer
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 7:54:59 PM

The farmer accepts Gniffle's drink, and begins to talk. "The sun season has ended early. You see, we only get about two weeks of sunshine a year here, and . . ." With that he stops talking, as he is being glared at by four dockworkers sitting in the corner.

Alec
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 9:43:59 PM

Alec sits with Guardian, Neko and Sir Thomas. "They don't seem very friendly to strangers in these parts. I'm with you; I think we should keep some sort of watch here, at least for tonight. In the morning we definately should go to the mayor to formally introduce ourselves and state our mission, just so that there is no misunderstanding. Maybe we can get some information about the short growing season out of him too; I suspect some evil magic at work here."

Sitting down he tastes his ale, and frowns. "They may need some help with their brewing skills as well."

Neko
Tuesday July 27th, 1999 9:57:59 PM

Neko listens to the things that are being said by the other people in his party. "Well, going to the Mayor might be a good idea, but what exactly are we going to tell him our 'mission' is? If this town doesn't like stangers poking their noses around, I don't think the Mayor is going to give us the friendliest welcome. As far as talking to people in the town, the dockhands would probably be best bet. They would know all of the comings and goings of this town."

Guardian Solomar
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 1:39:59 AM

Guardian Solomar smiles politely at Sir Thomas. "You're suggestion is a good one. I'll stand watch outside in a moment." He gets up from his corner, and walks to where Gniffle is talking to the farmer.

Gniffle
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 2:37:59 AM

Giving a hard eye to the dockworkers, Gniffle turns back to the farmer. "Good sir, I understand your reluctance to talk, and wouldn't presume to have you do anything that could be construed by your friends over there as wrong. Perhaps you can give me some general information about this area, if that would not make them uncomfortable."

Turning a winning smile upon the farmer, Gniffle orders an ale for himself.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 3:08:59 AM

"Good suggestion about the dock workers, but I have a feeling that they are the least friendly. Who wants to give it a go with me?"

Sir Thomas waits a second, possibly for a reply from a friend, and goes to a table of dockworkers. "Hello!" He pulls up a seat and sets his backpack next to the leg of his chair. "May I offer a friendly drink to any of you? I am Sir Thomas, by the way, and I just thought I could make a friend or two tonight since I won't be in town long."

Farmer
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 8:34:59 PM

"Wouldn't mess with that bunch if I were you; they're a bunch of mean drunks. They said that you all come from someplace new, which means the Shuffle has started. Them types are always the worst hit with shipping disrupted. You best tell your friend to back off, 'less he wants to eat his own teeth for dinner."

D.M. (A)
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 8:35:59 PM

As Sir Thomas pulls a chair up, the dockworkers go silent and stare at him with hostile intent in their faces and eyes.

Trace
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 8:54:59 PM

Watching Sir Thomas walk into an unfriendly situation, Trace draws a dagger out, dragging it on the sheath so as to make noise as it's drawn, to let the dockworkers know that it is not just Sir Thomas by himself. Keeping an eye on the workers, he starts to clean out from under his fingernails, leaning with his back against the far wall.

DM (S)
Wednesday July 28th, 1999 10:39:59 PM

A young-looking blonde woman, who has been lounging in a dark corner of the bar, walks over to Gniffle. "You better go and watch over your friend. He doesn't seem to know how things work over here." Gniffle can see that she is dressed in hunting leathers, with a scimitar strapped to her back. "I dont want any bloodshed in here."

One of the dockworkers, who looks a little bigger than the others, stands up, glaring at Sir Thomas first, then his gaze falls on the others. "Get away from me! I don't want to talk to your kind."

Guardian Solomar
Thursday July 29th, 1999 12:58:59 AM

Upon seeing the dock workers' reactions to Sir Thomas, he looks at the paladin. "Tom, better leave them alone."

Then he addresses the young woman. "Forgive our boy, ma'am. We've been at sea for a while now, and you're the first faces we've seen in months. We're all just a little giddy. Ma'am, is there a temple close by?"

Sir Thomas
Thursday July 29th, 1999 3:02:59 AM

When the man stands blubbering out his threat, Sir Thomas stands quickly and throws his hands up in an I-didn't-do-it, harmless sort of way, saying, "I'm sorry, big guy; I didn't intend to step on any toes, I just thought that since you guys helped dock our boat that I have been on for so long, I would thank you properly with a drink. Apparently you don't want one. That's all you had to say. I'll move on."

He grabs his bag and backs away with an apologetic look. "Maybe I'll just go with Guardian to a temple. I can't possibly get in trouble there," he says to himself as he walks toward Guardian.

"Would you care to find a temple with me Guardian? I wonder if they worshop Alemi around here." He speaks up. "Excuse me, barkeep, could you direct me to a temple of Alemi, please?"

Lithasarin
Thursday July 29th, 1999 3:06:59 AM

The youthful elf pulls his hood from his head, and pushes his light hair back, leaving traces of rainwater in his hands from having walked in as the rain began. He looks to the two knights 'conversing' with the dockworkers, and to Trace against the wall. His eyes show intense interest in the situation, but little in the way of worry. He walks to the bar and sits, pulling his loose cloak around him, and watching the life in the inn.

Alec
Thursday July 29th, 1999 4:18:59 AM

Alec speaks to Sir Thomas and the Guardian. "Finding a temple sounds like a good idea. A local cleric would be a more friendly source of information than we seem to have met here. Perhaps they could direct us to some maps of the local area and books of local lore. I, myself, am well versed in navigation, as well as reading and writing. Maybe I could take time at a temple to pour over my spell book, or perhaps learn a new spell."

Neko
Thursday July 29th, 1999 9:14:59 AM

Neko steps to Guardian and whispers, "Don't you find it odd how this rain has affected the people around us?" He looks, noting the saddened faces. "These people -- there's soemthing wrong with them." He chuckles. "And I don't think we're going to find out by asking the dockhands, but --" He looks at the woman that talked to Gniffle. "What about her?"

Gniffle
Friday July 30th, 1999 12:12:59 AM

Turning towards the woman in leathers, he says, "Thank you for your sage advice. You have perhaps spared my friend a night of pain and misery. Your help was much appreciated. You seem slightly out of place here amongst the locals. My name is Gniffle. If you wouldn't mind, perhaps I may buy you a drink, and we could talk a bit?"

DM (S)
Friday July 30th, 1999 1:37:59 AM

The woman turns to Gniffle. "I don't drink, but thanks anyway. You are in a strange land, my friend. I have heard of your land, this New Elenna. And iIwill tell you this: no one else here has ever heard of it. If I were you, I wouldn't tell anyone else where you are from. People from these parts don't trust anyone from somewhere they haven't heard of.

"They also don't take kindly to anyone who isn't human." She pulls back her hair and reveales slightly pointed ears. "It's not like that everywhere, but in these rural towns, there is a lot of mistrust."

She turns to Solomar. "There isn't a temple of any kind in this town. The townspeople rely more on local healers and travelling priests more than anything. There are not many big cities in this part of the Wold." She looks at the party's clerics' dress and symbols. "Religon is practiced, but it is much more informal than you are probably used to."

As he is talking to the strange woman, Guardian Solomar notices something vaguely familiar hanging from her neck. (Make a perception check, roll under you Int or Wis.)

The bartender turns to Sir Thomas. "There isn't any temple in town. What do you want to drink?"

The dockworker that talked to Sir Thomas sits back down with his friends. They huddle a little closer together and resume their whispering.

The storm outside seems to be getting rougher, with claps of thunder being heard every other minute.

Guardian Solomar  d20=2
Friday July 30th, 1999 4:26:59 AM

(perception check successful) "Are you a priestess?" Guardian looks at the woman, recognizing the symbol she wears.

Sir Thomas
Friday July 30th, 1999 5:22:59 AM

"OH! . . . No temple?" He blurts, rather dumbfounded. Sir Thomas takes a minute to consider his options then says, "I would simply like some warm dinner at this point. Would you happen to have any of that, sir? What about somewhere that I could clean up a little, like a bath house, a bathing spring, or something of that matter that I could visit after it stops raining? By the way, I would like to apologize to you for my oafish behavior. I really meant nothing by it."

Neko
Friday July 30th, 1999 11:18:59 AM

He walks to the counter and pulls out a gold piece. "I don't know about my friends, but I won't be going out in this weather." He sets the gold piece down. "I'd like a room."

Trace
Friday July 30th, 1999 8:36:59 PM

Seeing the woman in leather reveal her ears, Trace decides to walk over and pay a visit. "Hello, my name is Trace. As you probably know, we are not familiar with this land, but seeing that you are close to my race, I was hoping you could give me and my friend here some answers about this place. Like what is it with the rain, and everyone's attitude? And why is there, as you say, a mistrust with anyone that is not human?"

DM (S)
Saturday July 31st, 1999 1:05:59 AM

Solomar notices that the symbol that the woman is wearing it the symbol of the goddess Mittiri. "No, I'm not," she replies. "My mentor gave this to me." She turns to Trace. "That's just the way it's always been. As for the rain, it's always raining at this time of the month. Nothing unusual about that."

The innkeeper looks at Sir Thomas. "We have stew tonight. Go sit down and the serving wench will bring you some shortly." Then he turns to Neko. "Do you want a private room, or a common room?"

Gniffle
Saturday July 31st, 1999 1:36:59 AM

Reacting to the womans words with a slightly puzzled expression he says, "Pardon my abrupt manner but if these lands are unhospitable to those not of humankind what then, praytell, are you doing hereabouts. I hope i have not impinged upon your personal life but your words make me curious. You also seem to know a bit about the surrounding area. Would you impart some of your knowledge to us? The more we know of this land the better off we are. As our earlier behavior clearly showed these simple folk we have no clue about this lands or its environs." As the little gnome finishes his questions he glances about the room to see if any more interest is being paid to himself and his fellow travellers. After having done so his eyes again rest, somewhat apprehensive, upon the woman awaiting her reply.

Neko
Saturday July 31st, 1999 11:22:59 AM

Neko points to the others in his party..."If I can get a common room for those men alone...then I'll take a common room. If not...private will do nicely."

Alec
Saturday July 31st, 1999 8:12:59 PM

Alec removes himself to a quiet corner of the room and takes his travelling spell book out of his backpack, which he then begins to study intently. (memorizing a detect magic spell)

DM (S)
Sunday August 1st, 1999 1:05:59 AM

the young woman looks at Gniffle "I was born here, so they know me. They are generally good people. Its just that there are a lot of isolated towns, and they are weary of any strangers. If those strangers dont look like them, that just adds to their mistrust. To answer your other question, I have traveled all over the Wold, so just ask me what you want to know, and ill try to tell you what you want to know."

DM (S)

the innkeeper replies to Neko's questions "Sure, that is no problem."

Neko
Sunday August 1st, 1999 10:39:59 AM

Neko nods, "Then I'd like a common room for my friends and myself." He slides the gold coin across the counter...

Guardian Solomar
Sunday August 1st, 1999 7:04:59 PM

"All over the wold?" I say to the elven woman. "How about a place called New Elenna, have you been there?"

Gniffle
Sunday August 1st, 1999 11:25:59 PM

Pondering the womans words Gniffle glances at those residents who remain. Returning to the woman he says, "As you no doubt already know we are not from this area. Your assistance in gaining information would be invaluable to our effort. I was hoping to obtain a local map of the surrounding areas. Do you have a map of the like i seek? if not where could we procure one."

Sir Thomas
Monday August 2nd, 1999 12:35:59 AM

"Thank you sir." I go sit at the table with my friends and take some water from my backpack and begin to drink sparingly until my stew comes. I say nothing for now convinced to stay out of trouble.

Alec  d100=10
Monday August 2nd, 1999 4:58:59 AM

Alec puts his spell book away in his backpack and walks outside into the rain. He searches the skies, eyeing the storm with a keen eye. He then finds a pool of the newly fallen rain and examines it thoughtfully. (He is casting the detect magic spell on the rainwater in the pool, and falling from the sky. Passed check for magic type as well, if the rain is of magic origin.)

DM (S)
Monday August 2nd, 1999 7:36:59 AM

Alec's spell come up with nothing. The rain appears to be normal rain. The innkeeper takes the gold coin "Your are in room #2. Here is your key."

DM (S)
Monday August 2nd, 1999 7:40:59 AM

she turns to Solomar. "No, i have never been there. But i have heard of it." turns to Gniffle "No, i dont have a map. In these parts, stuff like that is hard to come by. People mostly hire out scouts or guides."

Neko
Monday August 2nd, 1999 8:22:59 AM

He nods, "Thank you." Neko passes and leans to Solomar. "Tell the rest of the group that if they want a place to sleep...I've got room #2. It's a common room." Neko goes up the stairs to his room. He walks down the hall...looking from door to door until he finds #2...he unlocks it...and opens the door...

Lithasarin
Monday August 2nd, 1999 9:17:59 AM

The elf follows Neko up to room #2. "So this is our room is it? Mind if I come inside?" He stands in the doorway.

Guardian Solomar
Monday August 2nd, 1999 9:24:59 PM

Hearing Neko's message, I turn to our table and say (quietly), "Neko's gotten a room for everyone. It's #2. Tom and I stand watch for now, so if you want rest, go now." I turn back to the elven woman. "Are you a scout or a guide. If so, can you take us to someplace friendlier than this?" I look over my shoulder at the dock workers, then I slightly shake my head. "I don't know how much longer we should stay."

Gniffle
Monday August 2nd, 1999 9:57:59 PM

Nodding at guardian, "Yes there must be a friendlier place than this. If you would be our guide i am sure we could pay you. what would you charge for your services if you were interested?"

Trace
Wednesday August 4th, 1999 6:22:59 AM

Trace gathers his things and says goodnight to the female elf. He then makes his way upstairs to room #2 along with his dog Luke. Trace puts down his pack and lies with his head on it like a pillow. His dog luke curls up next to him and lays down.

Neko
Wednesday August 4th, 1999 8:30:59 AM

He steps into the room and looks around. He sighs throwing his bag down. He takes out his blanket and kneels on it...whispering a prayer...

Sir Thomas
Wednesday August 4th, 1999 6:40:59 PM

I wait for my stew to come, then pay the girl and eat listening interestedly to what is going on with this stranger. I look her over as I eat noting anything interesting about her attire. (What is different from the locals, does she look like a warrior/thief/etc.) I continue to emit jovial vibes dispite my personal unhappiness about the way things have gone in this town thus far.

Alec
Wednesday August 4th, 1999 10:23:59 PM

Alec walks back into the Inn, soaked in rain. He sits down at the table by Gniffle and the Guardian, "I think I've had enough for one day," wiping the water from his face with the sleeve of his robe,"Where were we going to sleep tonight?"

Guardian Solomar  d20=5
Wednesday August 4th, 1999 10:24:00 PM

While I wait for the elven lady to respond, I take a quick look around for other strangers like us (passed int/wis check).

DM(s)
Thursday August 5th, 1999 1:04:59 AM

the woman looks at Solomar. "I guess you can say im a guide. Ive been all over this continent. As far as a "friendly" place, i would guess Hook city is where you want to go. But its a very long journey from here, and we have to pass through some very unfriendly territory. I can take you there, but my price will be named when we get there. Think it over, but i can promise you will not find anyone else that knows the ways of the land like I do."

DM(s)
Thursday August 5th, 1999 1:06:59 AM

Solomar looks around, but doesnt notice any more strangers. He does see the dockworkers still staring at the companions, though

Guardian Solomar
Thursday August 5th, 1999 7:01:59 PM

I smile at the elven woman. "You're offer is very generous. I can't speak for the whole group, but I'll ask them if they want you to take us to Hook City." Feeling the stares of the dockworkers, I turn my back to them. I whisper, "Personally, I can't wait to leave. And I'm sure our new 'friends' feel the same way. Will you wait while I discuss this with my (not sure how to describe the group yet) traveling companions?"

Lithasarin
Thursday August 5th, 1999 10:03:59 PM

In room #2 the cloaked elf sits against a wall, his hood pulled back over his face but strands of very light colored hair still fall out onto the damp grey cloth. Quietly measuring out his supply of what appears to be yellow sand, chucklong to himself occasionally for no obvious reason.

Sir Thomas
Friday August 6th, 1999 1:05:59 AM

After swallowing another bite of stew I look up from my bowl and say "I would like to go to Hook City, especially if it means a more friendly atmosphere. I'm sorry maam, I missed your name and I've impolitely failed to give mine. I am sir Thomas and I hope you are not offended."

Holly(DM S)
Saturday August 7th, 1999 6:27:59 AM

"My name is Holly. Its not so bad here, you just got on their bad side. But it is probably best that you leave soon. With all the strangers in town, everyone is on edge."

Neko
Saturday August 7th, 1999 10:13:59 PM

After saying his prayers Neko leaves the room and heads back to Solomar and Gniffle. "Alright...so what are we going to do? Do we stay here tonight or does someone else have another idea." He looks up seeing Holly, he nods a greeting.

Sir Thomas
Sunday August 8th, 1999 3:30:59 AM

"I certainly can't speak for anyone else, but I am in favor of staying here tonight in the room upstairs." I lower my voice and lean into the table, "I think we should also keep a watch if we do that as well." Then returning my voice to normal and leaning back into my chair, "Then I think we should leave town as soon as the sun comes up. We can figure the rest out on the road."

Alec
Sunday August 8th, 1999 8:00:59 PM

"I'm with Sir Thomas, I think we all could use a rest before making any long term plans."

Gniffle
Sunday August 8th, 1999 10:15:59 PM

Nodding at Holly's words he turns towards Guardian. "I am in agreement with you. If the rest agree I would, too, like to have you be our guide Holly. I would like to know, however, if you could be counted on in a fight. No offense intended but one must know who he is surrounded by."

Sir Thomas
Monday August 9th, 1999 12:18:59 AM

I would like to study Holly's face this turn as she replys to Giffle's question. I want to know if she is evil. (Detect Evil in Holly's direction)

Guardian Solomar
Monday August 9th, 1999 1:15:59 AM

I turn to Neko. "You've been kind enough to buy as all a room. Why not rest before we begin our travels?" Looking back at Holly, I say to Neko, "I don't know if she has her own room, but I think we should at least offer ours."

Neko
Monday August 9th, 1999 1:35:59 AM

Neko nods at Solomar, "Offer her some a place to stay. As for me...our journeys have left me very weary. Good night." With that Neko returns to his room

Holly(DM S)
Monday August 9th, 1999 2:57:59 AM

"Thanks for the offer, but i hve my own place to stay. In fact, i need to get back to it and make some arrangements, since i wont be back here for a while. Ill meet you here tommrow." then turns to Solomar "I think these will answer your question." she pulls out a string with a bunch of green ears attached to them. "I caught these guys burning down my forest. Here, you can have them." and with that, she tosses them towards Solomar. "Goodnight everyone" she says as she walks out of the in and into the storm.

D.M. (A)
Monday August 9th, 1999 6:53:59 AM

A short, bald dwarf who whears a rag over the lower half of his face and smells of baby powder taps Sir Thomas upon the shoulder. He carrys the bigest two bladed axe you have ever seen. Hi seems to hold the wisdom of the ages in his face and eyes. When you see him you can't help but think 'When I have seen everything those eyes have seen, will I look so kind?" and then he speaks. . .

Donk (D.M. A)
Monday August 9th, 1999 6:55:59 AM

"It not considered polite to spy in people souls here, no mater where you come from!" "I think you owe Holly apology"

Sir Thomas
Monday August 9th, 1999 7:38:59 AM

I double-take with surprise at the dwarf's comment. Then stand and bow out of respect, "You are very right sir, that was impolite of me and I will apologize to Holly first thing in the morning, you have my word on it. And I also apologize to you. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Would you care to join us? You may have my seat. (If he chooses to sit I wait for him to get settled while getting myself another chair, if he doesn't but is not threatening I quickly ask some questions) Do you know Holly? . . . (If so) How?" I am very curtious and sincere both with my tone and my actions and I allow the aged dwarf to reply before asking more questions.

Guardian Solomar
Monday August 9th, 1999 10:12:59 PM

I take the string of ears. An odd gift, I think. "Until tomorrow, Holly. Good night." I say goodnight to Neko, then I follow Neko up to the room and stand guard outside the door.

Alec
Monday August 9th, 1999 11:43:59 PM

Alec nods goodnight to Holly and the old dwarf and follows the Guardian up to the group's sleeping quarters.

Donk (D.M. A)
Tuesday August 10th, 1999 1:41:59 AM

"Donk know Holly well. Donk and Holly been friends long time. Donk watch out for Holly, holly watch out for Donk.

Trace
Tuesday August 10th, 1999 6:56:59 AM

Trace wakes up from his breif sleep. I grab my belongings and make my way back down stairs to releave the group that is on watch. Luke yawns and stretches then slowly follows Trace down stairs. I reach in to my pack and give luke some water and some of my rations. I see Sir Thomas talking to a new stranger and make my way over and introduce myself.

Neko
Tuesday August 10th, 1999 8:50:59 AM

Neko lays on his back in the middle of the night. Thinking of his church back in Elenna and the road ahead. No longer able to sleep he quietly gathers his things, making sure he doesn't wake anyone, makes his way downstairs.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday August 10th, 1999 9:31:59 AM

"Well, I reiterate my apology sir, I am terribly sorry. Will you be joining us on our trip to Hook City? We leave in the morning and Holly will be showing us the way." Seeing Trace approaching "Oh, hello Trace, this is . . . well I don't believe I know who this is." I turn toward the dwarf, "I didn't catch your name sir. I am Sir Thomas, messenger of Alemi's word and protector of Domi's honor, and you are?" I sit so that I am facing the hallway that leads to the stairs that go up so that I may be conscious of who is coming and going that way.

Guardian Solomar
Tuesday August 10th, 1999 6:14:59 PM

I managed to stay awake at my "post" when Trace and Luke walked out, but when Neko opens the door, I jerk my nodding head up instantly. "Who what who?" I'm tense until my eyes focus and I realize it's Neko. I relax. "Umm, carry on . . ." I yawn and nestle into my post again. Some guardian I am, I think.

Gniffle
Tuesday August 10th, 1999 10:03:59 PM

After watching Holly make her way out of the inn the little gnome packs up his meager belongings and heads up to the room which Neko has secured for the night. As he enters a small smile creeps its way across his features as he surveys the sleeping guardian. Moving to the corner away from the door he gently sets down his pack and lays his back against it. He draws his handaxe from his belt and lays it on the floor next to his hand and closes his eyes in anticipation of sleep.

Alec
Wednesday August 11th, 1999 2:07:59 AM

Alec takes his blanket from his pack and rolls up against a wall for some much needed rest. He falls asleep while dreams of home fill his head.

Donk (D.M. A)
Wednesday August 11th, 1999 3:26:59 AM

"You know Alemi? Shhh you not say that to loud, come with Donk!" He begins to walk out side, but as he dose he brings a holy symbol of Domi to his lips.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday August 11th, 1999 7:09:59 AM

Moments ago I had been entertaining ideas of heading for some much needed rest, but the dwarf's reaction cause my eyes to open wide as if they possessed minds of their own. I look around the table with a 'What have I done?' look then stand and grab my pack to follow the dwarf, who's name I still don't know. I say a silent prayer of thanks and hope to both of the gods I worship and rub my own symbol that dangles from my neck.

DM S
Wednesday August 11th, 1999 10:57:59 AM

with Sir Thomas following the dwarf outsind into the rain, the only ones left in the inn are Neko, Trace, and the dockworkers. After glaring at the two companions for a few minuets, they all get up and approach them. "You need to leave right now." one of the dockworkers says to the 2 companions. The ones behind them are clenching their fists in anticipation

Guardian Solomar
Thursday August 12th, 1999 12:34:59 AM

My hold on my quarterstaff loosens as I fall asleep. Finally, the staff falls out of my hand and bangs against the floor. Not much of a racket, but enough to wake me up. I yawn and retrieve the staff. "Anybody gonna give me a break?" I whisper. I set back into my defensive posture, asleep in moments.

Donk (D.M. A)
Thursday August 12th, 1999 1:44:59 AM

The dwarf crosses out into the rain and turns to Sir Thomas. "You from the North?" "How you get here?" "You steal that symbol?" (pointing to the symbol of Alemi).

Neko
Thursday August 12th, 1999 2:56:59 AM

Neko is somewhat taken back...he takes a step back putting some distance between him and the approaching group. "Gentlemen, is there a problem? My friends and I are just looking for some much needed rest...at the first sign of sunlight we will be on our way." He shifts his bag on shoulder, touching his hand to his mace. He speaks over his shoulder, still keeping his eyes on the men. "Solomar! Wake up!" he says in forceful manner....

Trace
Thursday August 12th, 1999 7:00:59 AM

Trace redies his shield and draws his sword. Backing up a few steps his dog Luke starts to growl at the agressors. "Sir I think you need to back off and rethink what you are saying. We are not causeing a problem here and as soon as the sun comes up and the rain stops we are on our merry way. But please do not force me to defend myself."

DM S
Thursday August 12th, 1999 7:15:59 AM

at seeing Trace draw his sword, the dockworkers take a few steps back, but they continue to glare at the two companions, with more hatred in their eyes, if that is possible. one of them picks up a chair, and another one draws a knife from his boot. suddenly the innkeeper rushes out yelling, "No violence, no violence!" he points at one of the dockworkers "Crispen, get you men out of here night now or ill no longer allow you in here! You two". he points at Neko and Trace ,"Get in your room right now, or ill call the watch and throw you out of my tavern!"

Sir Thomas
Thursday August 12th, 1999 7:19:59 AM

"No sir, I did not steal this symbol. I am a knight of Alemi, and Domi for that matter too, and I cherish this symbol as well as their word." Now a little less offended sounding "To answer your other questions, yes I am from the north." I lower my voice a little remembering the advice of someone, "New Elenna to be exact. And we came by boat. It wasn't a pleasant trip I'll tell you that for sure. At the risk of sounding long winded, I was wondering, where are we going because it is VERY late and we are leaving VERY early tommorrow and I need some sleep." (I wonder if it's late) "And how do you know about Alemi and Domi? Are you from the north?" I keep an eye on where we are going so that I might be able to find my way back to the inn tonight." I shoulder my pack onto my left shoulder.

Neko
Thursday August 12th, 1999 7:39:59 AM

The tension begins to ease itself in Neko as he looks to Trace and back to the dispersing group. Neko takes several steps back towards the stairs. He looks to Trace, "Come on, let's get upstairs..."

Guardian Solomar  d20=2

Neko's yell startles me. I jerk out of my sleep and rush toward the bar, staff in hand.

Donk (D.M. A)
Friday August 13th, 1999 1:58:59 AM

Donk turns into a small alley and checks to make sure they were not followed. "You bad omen for town, you brought rain week early, now people go hungry this year, no time to plant food. If they know you have strange Gods then they think you bring devils. Hide that, till you leave town. (pointing to the holy symbol) Alemi, Domi, they not here like they are there. Donk know of north cause Donk stuck in place called Loft of Ravens for long time. Donk have vision from Domi and Domi explain everything. Donk have vision of you and friends last night. You going to cause BIG trouble, but also help the struggle in BIG way too. Donk don't know if he should kill you or hug you. Holly trust you so Donk wait. Try not to get self killed OK!"

Sir Thomas
Friday August 13th, 1999 3:49:59 AM

"O.K. Donk, I am to assume your name is Donk, right? Let's try not talking in riddles if we could please. We are not ging to get into any big trouble. If this is a peaceful town then we want nothing more than to leave it peacful. If there is a problem here I would like to be among the first to help solve it, but you're going to have to explain to me the BIG struggle a little better if you would please. And why does Holly trust us? She doesn't even know us." I say this while hiding my holy symbol even though it goes against my wholoe being. I'll cooperate to stay out of trouble. "Also, I'll do my best to not get killed if you do your best to not kill me . . . deal?"

Trace
Friday August 13th, 1999 7:25:59 AM

Thanking the Gods for the intervention of the inn keeper Trace backs his way up the stairs and returning his Long Sword back to its place. Once up the stairs Trace calls his dog Luke to follow and makes his way back to the room. Once inside the room Trace lets the rest of the group know what happened and that they should leave at first light. Rain or no rain.

Neko
Friday August 13th, 1999 11:26:59 AM

Neko stops to see the "brave" Solomar bounding to their rescue. Neko mumbles to Solomar as he heads back to the room..."Thanks for the backup..."

As Neko and Trace make their way into the room the little gnome props himself up on his pack. "They certainly don't like us here do they. Speaking of unmitigated hatred...where is our knight in shining armor? I havent seen nor heard from him in a while."

Neko
Saturday August 14th, 1999 2:26:59 AM

Neko stops and glances about the room. "Good question...where is Thomas?" He looks out into the hallway and steps back into the room. "Have any of you seen him? Those dockworkers won't be too happy to find him running around."

Guardian Solomar
Saturday August 14th, 1999 8:34:59 PM

"I thought Thomas was supposed to help me guard." I yawn. "Not that I need help, of course . . ." I take a quick look downstairs, trying not to disturb the bartender, and then I rejoin the group. "I didn't see him at the bar . . . (sighs) I'm going to go look for him--who knows what kind of trouble he may stir up if left to himself. Anybody coming with me?"

Alec
Sunday August 15th, 1999 7:12:59 PM

Roused from his slumber by the commotion, Alec looks around, then at Guardian, "I will go with you. I don't see how we will get any sleep tonight until we are all safe together here." With that Alec stands, and prepares to walk out into the night with Guardian Solomar, in search of Sir Thomas.

Neko
Monday August 16th, 1999 2:17:59 AM

He shakes his head, as if already regretting the decision he's about to make. "Fine, I'll go to. If those dockhands stumble across him there's no telling what kind of trouble he'll be in."

Monday August 16th, 1999 7:38:59 PM

Since there it is not long till daylight I suggest that we pack up and head out now while looking for Sir Thomas.

Sir Thomas
Monday August 16th, 1999 11:10:59 PM

"Excuse me Donk, but what I was asking is that you tell me in more detail about the struggle of this little town, how we brought the rain a week early, and why that means that these people will go hungery." I look around the alley and then at the sky. "You can tell me on the way back to the inn. It will be light soon and we need to meet my friends and Holly there at first light."

Neko
Monday August 16th, 1999 11:52:59 PM

In accordance with my friend's plan, I head out the door of the room--my things have already been packed. I move in a hurry through the bar and outside. I take a look around, hoping to find Tom close by. (what do I see?)

Sir Thomas
Tuesday August 17th, 1999 10:07:59 PM

Well that's just GREAT! I look around a bit more thoroughly with intersperced questions of "Donk?" Not finding anything and really wanting an answer to my question about the struggle that my friends and I are supposed to make such a BIG impact on, I stop looking and decide to go back to the inn. Unfortunately I am just as empty handed as when I left. Maybe I'll be able to grab just a few short hours of rest before dawn.

Wednesday August 18th, 1999 2:36:59 AM

Solomar sees that the main barroom is empty, except for a man sitting in a chair. He seems to be the night watchman. his back is to you, looking at the door.

Wednesday August 18th, 1999 2:54:59 AM

Solomar walks to the entrance of the tavern and looks out into the rain. He sees rain and mud and darkness as the sun has not yet rissen over the mountains. Then suddenly he sees something flash by, it seemed like a giant walking bird. Then the impression leaves him as a moment latter he sees another figure going the other way. Cloak billowing like wings. As he continues to look about the one thing he does not see is Sir Thomas.

Trace

Sir Thomas
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 7:36:59 PM

I pull my cloak out of my bag finally remembering that it was in there. I put it on and pull it close around me with the hood up. "This rain has really picked up with the wind" I think to myself. I just lean into the wind and head for the inn with no other choice before me.

Guardian Solomar
Wednesday August 18th, 1999 9:34:59 PM

Thursday August 19th, 1999 12:31:59 AM

Alec stands near the Inn near the Guardian. He cautiously eyes the scene, looking for Sir Thomas. He looks at the figure dashing about in the rain hoping to recognize what race this apparition belongs to.

(D.M. A)
Thursday August 19th, 1999 3:58:59 AM

The first figure in the rain must have been human, a man with a cape, like the second. The second figure refuses to stop and talk. Then a third huddled figure emerges from the dark. The figure throws back his hood and it is Sir Thomas, back from where ever he went.

As sir Thomas emerges from the darkness the little gnome steps from behind guardians legs. In a soft but peircing voice he calls, "Hey Sir fancypants, whered you get off to. We didnt see you leave and didnt know if you got jumped or whatnot." Sending a perterbed look in the knights direction he awaits a reply.

Alec
Thursday August 19th, 1999 7:56:59 PM

"Sir Thomas, we were just looking for you! We were hoping to get a good nights rest in the safety of the inn tonight, then perhaps travel in the morning when the weather breaks. We couldn't sleep with a party member out wandering around in these hostile parts." Alec suddenly becomes aware of his need for a bath. After all it was a long journey in the ship.

Guardian Solomar
Thursday August 19th, 1999 10:21:59 PM

I drop my head and chuckle. "Sounds like we all could use a little sleep before we slit each other's throats." Having said that, I walk back up to the room, assume my "post" outside the room, and return to . . . um, guarding.

Neko
Thursday August 19th, 1999 10:52:59 PM

He walks back up the stairs stopping by Guardian's side. "You sure you're up for this...difficult duty?"

Sir Thomas
Friday August 20th, 1999 1:08:59 AM

"I'm sorry you guys, I know I was supposed to be on watch, but something GREAT happened and I had to look into it." Taken aback by the harsh 'welcome' from the group, "Trace was sitting at the table when I left with the dwarf Donk. He should have at least told you I wasn't in any danger when I left, but thanks for caring enough to come looking for me, it means a lot. I know, I wanted some rest too, but wait til you guys here this. I'll tell you my sectret in the room." I step into the inn and shake the rain from my cloak and body. After that I head upstairs for the room.

(D.M. A)
Friday August 20th, 1999 2:30:59 AM

Sir Thomas makes his way to the room. The Inn has become VERY quiet and the party can hear the rain striking the roof. It is both an ominius and soothing sound.

With none of his gruffness apparent the little gnome makes his way to 'his' corner and resituates himself. Propping himself up on one elbow he sits waiting for the "secret" the knght as learned.

Sir Thomas
Friday August 20th, 1999 8:38:59 PM

I nudge Guardian, "Come in here, we have things to discuss." I make sure everyone is awake and listening before I begin. "Last night I looked into Holly's soul to see if I could predict her intentions toward us. An impolite thing to do without asking, but it would be helpful in knowing whether or not to trust her. Anyway, a dwarf named Donk approached me to tell me how impolite it was that I did that. I was very curious how he knew I did it so I invited him to sit at our table. When I introduced myself as the messenger of Alemi's word and protector of Domi's honor he jumped up saying something about I know Alemi and I'm from the north and all. Then he told me to follow him. Well, I wouldn't have except that Trace had just come down to sit, so I followed him out into the rain. That wasn't very good because I forgot to put on my cloak in all of my confusion and curiosity. I followed him to an alley where he said he wasn't going to kill me because I, which I don't know if meant ME or US, was going to make a BIG difference in the struggle. He said WE brought the rain a week early and all of this other mumbo-jumbo. So I started asking him questions. He told me to hide my holy symbol to avoid any extra trouble. Well, when I finished doing that, which only took a second, he was gone. That's when I came back. I'm REALLY sorry that I left without saying anything to Trace, I know I should have said something to let him know since he just woke up, but I just didn't think about that last night. I was curious and confused and I appologize to you all. I can assure you that nothing like that will ever happen again. I know I didn't get much accomplished, but Donk said he is a friend of Holly's. We should definately be around at dawn to meet her. Maybe she'll be able to answer some of our questions." After my story I take off my armor to get comfortable and dry. I put on dry clothes and lay my wet ones out as best as possible. Then I sit attentive to listen to anything anyone else has to say.

Neko
Friday August 20th, 1999 11:21:59 PM

Neko sat with his back against a wall. "I figured our arrival had something to do with the rain. And if that's the case...I can't imagine how it can't be magical. The townspeople don't like strangers...do they have something to hide?" He yawns. "I guess the only thing we can do now is wait for Holly. The faster we meet her...the faster we get out of the town...I hope."

I feel that we should go now under the cover of darkness. If we wait till dawn I am sure we will have some more unwanted confrontation with the townspeople. That is just my opinion because the best way to stay out of trouble is not to be near trouble.

Alec
Sunday August 22nd, 1999 12:30:59 AM

"Confrontations with the local townsfolk don't always have to be negative. After all that is how we met Holly and Donk. We cannot be scared out of town by a bunch of dockworkers on our first day back from a voyage such as ours. Let us rest and recouperate tonight, then discuss these matters in the morning." Alec lies down and pulls his blanket over himself.

Although I hear the rythmic tapping of the rain, I cannot sleep now. I grimace now, trying my best to hide my feelings of frustration.

Neko
Sunday August 22nd, 1999 2:33:59 AM

the few remaining hours of the night pass uneventfully. When morning comes around, they can smell the innkeeper preparing breakfast for the morning customers. Sunlight blazes through the rom's sole window. It appears the storm has blown over.

Neko
Monday August 23rd, 1999 5:34:59 AM

He smiles at Solomar, "Yes, I do." With that Neko rests his head on his knees and dozes off. When morning arrives the smell of cooking rouses Neko. He squints out the light...and yawns. He stands and stretches, his muscles aching. He steps to the door of the common room and opens it. "Morning gentlemen."

Sir Thomas
Monday August 23rd, 1999 8:05:59 PM

I rub my tired eyes then stand and stretch. I don my armor and pack my things neatly in my pack. I check my weapons and test my armor, then kneel and give silent praise to Alemi, then Domi. I rise look about the room and head downstairs to see about breakfast.

Alec
Monday August 23rd, 1999 9:03:59 PM

Alec wakes, refreshed and rested. He leans against the wall and reads from his spell book for a few minutes before decending the stairs to eat breakfast with the others. He will ask the innkeeper to draw a bath for him after breakfast.

Trace
Monday August 23rd, 1999 9:14:59 PM

Trace rises and stretches. Thinking to himself that he only got a few hours of sleep it seems like it had been days since he had seen sunlight. Tuesday August 24th, 1999 6:00:59 AM

The smal gnome looks sullen as he sees that there will not be a rousing breakfast conversation. Turnong his face up to the parton of the inn he says, "What do you have that could be called edible this early in the moring?" Without even a trace of a smile crossing his lips he waits expectantly.

Tavern Keeper
Tuesday August 24th, 1999 6:30:59 AM

He visably bristles at Gniffle's remark. "I think I have been more than kind. It is not that I have anything against any of you, but I have a family here and your presence puts my familys life in danger. I have up held my end of the bargian, I have given you lodging, I could have asked you all to leave in the middle of the night when I recieved threats on mine and my familys life, but I didn't. Now I think I will just ask you all to leave."

Neko
Tuesday August 24th, 1999 6:58:59 AM

Neko levels his gaze at the man and nods. "I can speak for all of us when I say 'thank you' for risking what you have to put us up here last night. We'll be on our way...so as not to bring any more trouble down on your head." He steps to the tavern door, assuming the group can wait for Holly outside.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday August 24th, 1999 8:21:59 PM

I approach the innkeeper,"I too am sorry for any trouble that occured last night, and thank you sincerely for the trouble we have incurred upon you. May Alemi watch over you and your family." I exit the inn and look around the early morning street. Seeing nothing of real interest to me I stand and wait for the rest of the party.

Alec
Tuesday August 24th, 1999 8:44:59 PM

Dissapointed at having missed out on breakfast, and a bath, Alec shoulders his pack, and walks outside to wait in the street. Walking by Gniffle, he glares angrilly.

Trace
Tuesday August 24th, 1999 9:02:59 PM

Trace feeling sorry for the innkeeper he thanks him for letting him and his fellow travelers stay the night. Trace then reaches into his pouch and tosses the man a gold coin. Here for your trouble to you and your family. If we make it back to this town let me know if there is anything I can do for you. I will defend your name for the knindness you have shown us. "I for one, am rested, although still hungry. I too would be more than happy to continue my adventures in another city, hopefully somewhere with more educated inhabitants. Some where with a library and maps would be nice. Where do you suggest we go, Holly?"

Sir Thomas
Thursday August 26th, 1999 8:41:59 PM

I look at the gnome, "I don't know where you got the idea that I was flashing money about, but the only money I gave the innkeeper was for my stay and for dinner." Then I approach Holly, "Good morning ma'am, I would like to appologize to you. My manners have been rudely misplaced since we arrived here, and I assure you that I will be much better behaved in the future. I'm also sorry for looking into your soul last night, I was merely being catious for our safety. At least I know now that you are a good and decent person; a good role model for young adventurers like myself. I hope that you can forgive me." I bow my head solemly and await her reply.

Holly (DM A)

Alec
Friday August 27th, 1999 9:24:59 PM

Neko
Saturday August 28th, 1999 7:31:59 PM

Trace
Sunday August 29th, 1999 9:20:59 AM

Sir Thomas
Sunday August 29th, 1999 8:17:59 PM

Gniffle
Sunday August 29th, 1999 9:24:59 PM

Guardian Solomar
Sunday August 29th, 1999 11:50:59 PM

"If we have food . . . what other supplies would we need?" I look at Holly, tired and a bit suspicious. "Just exactly how far is Hook City from here? And what about your fee . . . we haven't exactly discussed the details of this trip." I yawn and stretch. I pull some stale bread from my pack and begin chewing. I offer some to Tom. "Hungry?"

Holly (DM A)
Monday August 30th, 1999 4:25:59 AM

"Hook city is about 3 months travel from here. Its a dangerous trip, and there are not a lot of villages between here and there. At least, not friendly ones. As far as supplies go, its always better to be prepared. Also, the rainy season is about to start. We are going to be traveling alot in the rain. Do you have rain cloaks or tents to sleep in? I dont know about you, but i find that i cant sleep when rain is pelting your face. And as far as my fee, i thought we agreed that you would find that out when we get to Hook city."

Neko
Monday August 30th, 1999 4:51:59 PM

Neko listens to the woman's words. "I too have a tendency to lose sleep when it's raining on my face. I've got a tent...but I could use a rain cloak."

Alec
Monday August 30th, 1999 6:14:59 PM

Guardian Solomar
Monday August 30th, 1999 9:31:59 PM

Then I wipe that from my face and fall into step with the rest of the group as we head to the general store. I approach Guardian on the way, "I am sorry to you especially for leaving last night. I foolishly disregarded my duty and left you alone to guard the whole group. It will NOT happen again."

Holly leads everyone to a shop that is located on the outskirts of the village. Above the door is a wooden sign with 2 crossed swords pictured on it. The windows are closed, as is the door. "Thats funny, Crazy Bob usually opened by now."

The streets around have gotten suddenly quiet and deserted.

The small gnome's face goes flat as he darts from the center of the group to one of the nearest doorways.(hide in shadows). The group can see the little fellow clearly silouetted against the morning sun as he peers from behind a doorway scanning the streets.

Guardian Solomar
Wednesday September 1st, 1999 9:19:59 PM

I am too tired to respond to either Neko or Thomas. I nod at their words and continue to follow Holly to the shop.

Trace
Wednesday September 1st, 1999 9:22:59 PM

Trace not likeing the situation lays his hand on the butt of his sword and backs up to the store wall. Well Holly do you have any other ideas? Or is this the only place we can purchase the things we need.

Alec
Wednesday September 1st, 1999 11:59:59 PM

Alec looks around, then looks suddenly frightened, "I hope they don't plan to run us out of town. Lets just get out of here, we should be able to find supplies on the road."

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 2nd, 1999 12:48:59 AM

"I agree with Alec. It is time to go. We can find supplies in the next town. I will be glad to share my supplies and we can deal with a lack of sleep. The last thing we want is a confrontation with a mob or worse a few angry, misguided townspeople." I say this as I loosen my shield straps from my back and then tighten it onto my arm.

Holly (DM A)
Thursday September 2nd, 1999 2:38:59 AM

"The next village is 3 weeks away. Dont worry about the townspeople. They wont do anything to you while im with you. But im worried about Bob, hes a friend of mine. If you are feeling nervous, you can wait here for me, but im going to see if Bob needs help." after speaking, she starts walking towards the little shop.

The sound of breaking glass comes from behind the shop.

Trace
Thursday September 2nd, 1999 8:57:59 AM

Hearing the glass break Trace tells everyone that he is going to go and check it out. He tells Luke to stay. As he turns he draws his long sword and a dagger.

Thursday September 2nd, 1999 7:48:59 PM

Alec cautiously follows Trace, Neko, and The Guardian around to the back of the store, drawing his dagger from his boot sheath.

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 2nd, 1999 8:44:59 PM

I draw my sword. "Yell if you run into trouble, I'll check the front." I go to the door and try to open it. If its locked I look in the window throwing a shadow across it with my shield to see better.

Holly (DM A)
Friday September 3rd, 1999 2:37:59 AM

Trace, Neko, Solomar, and Alec head towards the back of the shop, while Holly and Sir Thomas move to the front door, with Gniffle waiting for everyone by the road. When the group reaches the back, they see a busted window, glass scattered everywhere. Meanwhile, up front, Sir Thomas finds that the door is locked. As he moves to the window to look in, he can hear sounds of movement, as can Holly.(make a perception check sir thomas)Holly whispers "Did you hear that?" and draws her scimitar. Then she motions to Gniffle towards the store.

The small gnome comes at her beckoning. swiftly cobvering the ground he loosend the straps on his backpack and drops it to the ground next to the door. "Dont tell anyone you saw me do this" he whispers as he pulls two strangely shaped pieces of wire from various parts of his body. The lock opens with a quiet snick as hit wires find their marks. Stepping to the side of the door hew draws his handaxe from his belt and motions the knight to lead the way.

I Remove my pack and move to the door. Sword ready and shield in front of me I open the door as quickly as possile. I move into the building as quickly as possible to free the doorway for someone else. "Who is in here?!"

Holly (DM A)
Monday September 6th, 1999 4:38:59 PM

When he walks into the shop, the first thing Sir Thomas notices is that the place has been ransacked, with wares and goods scattered everywhere. He also sees two figures tied together, back to back. One appears to be an elderly man, while the other appears to be his son or grandson. Both have scabbed over wounds on their heads.

Holly (DM A)
Monday September 6th, 1999 4:41:59 PM

Both Neko and Solomar see footprints among the broken glass, leading into the forest beyond. They are strange footprints, looking like giant birds feet. Spying in the window, Neko cant see anything, because of the darkness, but he can here Sir Thomas's call into the shop.

Sir Thomas
Monday September 6th, 1999 6:45:59 PM

I hurry over to the two tied up figures and kneel beside them. As I survey the room "Everything will be O.K. We are here to help you." I begin to cut the rope with my sword.

Gniffle
Monday September 6th, 1999 8:06:59 PM

As Sir Thomas comforts the two men the small gnome waddles in the room bearing his pack and the knights as well. "Damn Sir Thomas, what did you put in this thing?" After seeing both men untied he wanders back to investigate the strange footprints but never moving more than 100 foot or vsual sight range from his nearest companion.

Trace
Monday September 6th, 1999 9:34:59 PM

Trace slides his sword and dagger back into their proper places and very carefully makes his way through the broken window so that no one can come out that way incase they might still be here. Trace scans the room useing his elven infravision to see if there is any one left in the room.

Alec
Monday September 6th, 1999 9:53:59 PM

When Gniffle walks around to the back of the building, Alec tells him, "The danger here seems to have outrun us. Whatever the culprit is, it seems to have escaped, for now." Never the less, Alec still holds his dagger, and looks around nervously.

Neko
Monday September 6th, 1999 10:49:59 PM

I look at the footprints, curiosity tickling at my mind. "I know we should do everything in our power to get out of town as soon as possible...but I can't help but wonder how far into the woods these footprints go.."

Holly (DM A)
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 3:00:59 AM

When he gets the two untied, Sir Thomas realizes that the shorter one isnt a child, but a hafling. Both look a little dazed. Holly walks up to the older man. "What happened Bob?"

Holly (DM A)
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 3:06:59 AM

Trace doesnt notice anything unusual looking through the window, except that the room has been ransacked. Neko and Gniffle, upon close examination of the tracks, notice that there is a white with red trimmed feather lying among the glass and footprints

Neko
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 4:18:59 AM

I kneel and pick the feather up from the glass. I stand and turn the feather over in my fingers. I hold it out to Solomar. "Look at this. Look familiar."

DM (s)
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 4:39:59 AM

There is a sudden sound of feathers rustling up on the roof and then the sky breaks open, and it begins to rain again.

Pip Goodfield
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 4:48:59 AM

The halfling shakes his head to clear it, looks up at Holly, and says, "I don't know. I had just come in from the fields today, and while I was here something hit me in the back of the head. And then I woke up tied next to Bob." He looks at Thomas, and says "Who are you? My name is Pip. Pip Goodfield. I've never seen you around here, where are you from?" Pip then listens to what Bob has to say.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 7:02:59 AM

I stand and seeing no immediate danger sheath my sword. I step back while Holly talks to Bob, and look at the halfling while he addresses me. "I am Sir Thomas, messenger of Alemi's word and protector of Domi's honor. It is good to meet you." I extend my hand to shake. "Let's just leave it that I am not from around these parts. Is your head O.K.?"

Pip Goodfield
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 11:32:59 AM

Pip takes the proffered hand and shakes it firmly "Yes, my head is fine. Are you a knight or something? And who are Alemi and Domi? Are they like king and queen from some other place? I must say, neither one really sounds like a woman's name, but you never know. I don't know much about other places, what's it like where you come from? And what's it called?" Pip sighs. "I wish I could go elsewhere. It's not that fun just working in the fields. That reminds me." He turns to the door. "Mirt! Mirt!" A greyish tabby cat walks in, and Pip says, "Well there you are. I suppose you've gone and eaten already. I don't blame you." He claps once, and Mirt jumps up onto his shoulder. Pip turns back to Thomas, a sort of odd sight as this cat barely has enough room on just one shoulder. "Mirt, what do you think of Thomas here?" The cat looks up a bit, then looks away, apparently more interested in a bit of lint on Pip's shoulder. Pip sighs. "I guess he's not in a sociable mood right now. I hope you don't take that personally..." Pip says, looking up at Thomas.

Neko
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 5:21:59 PM

I look up as the rain pelts my face and grumble. "I hate this place." With that I head around the front of the store and move inside...

Alec
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 6:55:59 PM

Hearing the sound of birds, or bird-like creatures, on the roof, Alec attempts to flush out whatever is on the roof with a ventriloquism spell. First he quietly signals to the Guardian to keep an eye out for a minute, then he throws his voice up on the roof, making the hissing, and screaming noises of an angery cat, "hssssssss, rrrrrrrrrrraaaarrrr," etc. Throwing these noises all around the roof, while keeping an eye out for any birds that are frightened off the roof.

Gniffle
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 8:18:59 PM

As the rain falls upon his little head the gnome sighs and wanders back into the comfort of the dry store. "whatever it was that did this is long gone by now. our best hope is to follow before the tracks get mussied up. We had best get moving if we are to find these bird thingie-whappies. I am not against getting wet so we should move now before any other dammage is done to the trail."

Sir Thomas
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 8:58:59 PM

"No, I don't take offense to your cat." Then in an attempt to avoid some of Pip's questions I turn to the rest of the group. "I agree with Gniffle. We should take chase to the culprit of this haneous act before the trail disappears."

Trace
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 9:46:59 PM

I agree with Sir Thomas, if we catch and defeat the ones that ransacked this store then we have a good chance in makeing a good name for ourselves. That way when we leave and come back we will be welcomed next time. If we are going to act we must act swiftly. {After saying this Trace draws his long sword and secures his shield on his arm. If no one disagrees I start to find a way to the roof to identyfy the sound on the roof. While Luke still waits for me at the front door. He is guarding the front.

Pip Goodfield  d100=35
Tuesday September 7th, 1999 10:15:59 PM

Looks around, confused. "Bird-thing? On the roof?" Hears the noises on the roof, then goes outside and climbs up on the roof to see if there's anything there.

Holly (DM A)
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 2:11:59 AM

Alec's spell goes off, but there doesnt apppear to be anything else on the roof. Apperantly the thunder has scared off the birds that were up there. Everyone else is gathered in the store, except Guardian Solomar, taking cover from the rain. After talking to Bob quietly for a few minuets, Holly comes back to the gathered companions. "Bob's not really sure what happened. He was doing some bussiness with Pip here when 3 of the cloaked strangers that have been in town lately came in and hit Pip from behind, then he says he was hit from behind and doesnt remember anything after that. I think going after them is a good idea. Bob said he'll give us the equipment we need if we go after them. Gather what you need, but dont overdo it. Lets be ready to go in 5 minuets."

Neko
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 2:32:59 AM

I walk around the store, glancing at the many items. I sigh and walk to Holly. "I thought I had everything I needed for this trip. And now you've got me wondering. Any suggestions on what I might need?"

Trace
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 5:57:59 AM

Trace picks up a rain cloak, and then a tent. He then goes back to the owner and ask a couple of questions. Did they take anything like money or a certain equipment? Why didnt they kill you instead of tieing you up. And also do you have anymaps of this area. Oh and did you get a good enough look at them to see if they were human, elf, dwarf or whatever? I think if we figure out why they came to the store then we can get an idea of why they are here and maybe a better idea of how to find them.

Pip Goodfield  d100=80 d20=5
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 9:29:59 AM

Pip starts to climb down off of the roof, then slips, but manages to catch hold of a nearby eave. Then he drops down the rest of the way. He comes inside just as Holly finishes talking to Bob. He says, "Now that gives a whole new meaning to eavesdropping," grinning at Holly. He listens to what Holly says, and starts to get a bit angry. "Well, if you guys are going after them, I'd like to join you. I have a personal debt to repay them." He looks at the feather in Neko's hand. "Huh. I've never seen something like this before. Except once, when Mirt went off and came back hurt bad, apparently he had tussled with something larger than him. But it may just have been the blood." Pip shrugs, then looks as Mirt jumps down off the roof into a big mud puddle. "They must have really hit me hard. I keep forgetting stuff like that. Sorry Mirt!" The last part comes as the cat comes in shaking all the water off. "The sunny season ended soon, and of course we'll be left holding the short stick. Bob, you wouldn't happen to have any milk, would you? I'd like to be able to make some more cheese sometime." Pip looks around, perusing to see if there is anything of interest that Bob didn't have last week. If he finds anything Bob didn't have last week, then he'll check it out. And he'll also get a small amount of milk, as well, as long as it doesn't cost too much.

Alec
Wednesday September 8th, 1999 11:16:59 PM

"Whatever was on the roof must have been scared off by the storm. I hope one of you is a good tracker, because these things seem to move fast, and the rain is washing away the trail. Those creatures are likely to be long gone by now." Alec then goes into the store, taking a rain cloak, and canvas tarp, whick he wraps around his pack to keep the rain out. He also takes some cured meat, and other foodstuffs. Alec then waves his hands around in a unique fashion and throws a pinch of mule hair into the air. Shortly, a saddled mule trots up to the front of the store, as if looking for someone. Alec holds out his hand to the mule in friendship, then straps his pack to the animal. Announcing to his friends, "Now we are ready to travel! I think this mule can hold more weight if you are nice to him, feel free to let him lighten your load for a while, while we track the bird things."

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 9th, 1999 1:32:59 AM

I grab a tent and another weeks worth of rations and put them into my back pack. I announce, "I am ready. We will catch them Sir." as I put my loaded pack onto the mule. I give the mule a small handfull of rations that I had taken from my supplies. "And we'll bring them to Justice" I emphasize on my way out the door pulling my cloak hood up on the way out.

Bob lets everyone take a raincloak, a tent, and 2 weeks worth of rations. If you want something else, you will have to pay for it. After everyone has gathered their equipment, Holly motions everyone to gather around her. "Ok, im not sure what we are going to encounter, so everyone be ready for anything. Pip blushes a bit. "Well, if you want to know what I can do, I'm an ok fighter and scout, and I know a bit of the area around here..." He stops, looking around. "I generally stay out of the town as the dockworkers and I have had a few disagreements." He thinks a bit. "Oh, and I also can do some nice tumbling." He then shows off a bit, doing flips and the like. When he's done he has a light sweat. "It's useful in fights. I can use a couple of weapons, too." He takes out a dagger and plays with it, then takes a staff from nearby and plays with it, then juggles darts. At the end of the presentation, he bows to the group.

Trace
Thursday September 9th, 1999 8:30:59 AM

Trace smiles and answers Holley. Well I am a Ranger and I can use a number of wepons but my true skill lies in my sword. {While saying this Trace draws his sword perfoms several moves to show his skill with the wepon since it is his specialty he proudly performs for halfling pip to show that he also has skill.} I can also track animals, befriend them in certain cases, and hide in shawdows. I am useally point man in a group in most cases since I am a tracker and scout. Between me and my dog Luke we are aware of danger before they are aware of us. If I may ask what are your skills?

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 9th, 1999 8:26:59 PM

Having already left the shop, I wonder where everyone else is and why they are taking so long. While I wait, I (unskillfully) check the tracks trying to get a general direction to follow before the rain washes them away. Once that is done (or unsuccessful) I check my armor straps and shield straps to make sure they are properly secure. Then I draw my sword and check it. "It's been a while since I've had you out." I think to myself. Still waiting, I say a solemn prayer to both of my gods. Then I pull my medallion from under my tunic and armor and rub it to calm my emotions while I look in the direction we will be soon be traveling in.

I grab another week of rations and mumble a prayer to Jancassis. "These people have been wronged," I say to myself. "And as a follower of Jancassis, I must do everything thing I can to see that the wrong is righted." I sigh, pay for my things, and head back to the group. "Okay, when do we leave?"

Alec
Friday September 10th, 1999 12:01:59 AM

In response to Holly's question Alec replies, "I am skilled in the use of magic," the sound of harp music is heard to drift through the air, "and of considerable education otherwise. Alas, I am of limited use in combat thou. I will need about a half hour with my spell book before I can best serve you on your search party. Perhaps a scout could check the trail while I stay here and learn a few spells. I really doubt we all can track a bird through the woods too far, especially in the rain."

Pip Goodfield

Neko, kneeling down sees a strange beattle with red markings across its back. Luke seems to be confused about a sent, he continues to run back and forth in a 10 foot area as if something has confused him. Sir Thomas, sees a small church about a mile and a half down the hill, on the other side of a wooded glade, it is in very good repair but seems to be abandend. As Guardian Solomar prays it seems as if the rain lets up a bit. Alec sees many plants he has never seen before, some seem familiar but slightly diffrent from healing flora he is acoustom to.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday September 14th, 1999 4:31:59 AM

I call out to my companions (without bellowing) to get their attention. "I see a church ahead. Holly, what is that church? Does any body live there? Did anyone else find anything of interest?" I listen to their responses. "We should try to take shelter there and rethink how to go about this."

He makes a face at that remark. He watches as Mirt darts from tree to tree for shelter. He looks at Solomar quizzically, and says, "You're the second person to mention this Alemi person. Remembering Holly's words about these "pagans," I pretend not to hear Pip's question. Rather, I turn to Holly. "Odd to find a church near a town where people don't worship. Trace, stop walking around in circles and help us decide what to do." I approach the church and listen for voices or other noises.

The dog eventualy gives up tring to figure out what was bothering it and wines softly. The rain lets up a bit more.

Neko
Wednesday September 15th, 1999 8:06:59 AM

My fingers touch the black widow pendant around my neck as I look at the insect scurrying about on the ground. I whisper a prayer to Jancassis, calling on my ablity to talk to insects once a day. My intent, to ask this odd creature if it had seen anything that would be of interest to us concerning the wrong doers.

Pip Goodfield
Wednesday September 15th, 1999 9:50:59 AM

Pip looks at Solomar weird. "What do you mean, don't worship? Each man worships such as pertains to them. Are you implying something?" He begins to take on a no-nonsense look. "Or are you someone who thinks that our gods are false or don't exist? I tell you, I've heard similar things from people coming into the docks, and neither me nor any of the others took very kindly to it. I would like an explanation." He waits Solomar's answer.

Holly (DM S)
Wednesday September 15th, 1999 4:44:59 PM

upon hearing Pip's comments, she storms over to him and glares down at him angerly. "Pip, the people are stangers here, they dont understand our customs. I would of expected you to understand that and to be a little more tolerable." then turns to Solomar "We do worship the gods here. This paticular church has been abandoned for as long as i lived. Im sorry if i misinformed you earlier. But stop acting like your surperior than everyone else here. My forgiviness only goes so far." and with saying that, she begins to work her way towards the church.

Alec
Wednesday September 15th, 1999 11:17:59 PM

"Maybe the people, or things, we are looking for are in the church right now. It would make a great hideout for bandits."

Guardian Solomar
Wednesday September 15th, 1999 11:28:59 PM

I ignore Holly and Pip, and I continue to look around the church.

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 16th, 1999 2:14:59 AM

I walk right up to the front door and try to open it while standing defencively behind my shield.

Pip Goodfield
Thursday September 16th, 1999 2:37:59 AM

Pip listens to Holly's outburst with surprise on his face. "Well, I understand them not knowing our customs, but openly insulting us?" He turns to the impassive Solomar, and sighs. "You must be a lost cause." He agrees with Alec, and says "At least you're not being condesending or lofty. Let's go find those guys, things, or whatever. I have a lump to return." He walks over by Thomas, keeping his staff ready.

Gniffle
Thursday September 16th, 1999 3:02:59 AM

Looking somewhat stunned at the knights actions the little gnome hurries over to the knights side while mumbling something about humans being born without a life preserving instinct in their bodies.

DM (A)
Thursday September 16th, 1999 3:58:59 AM

Sir Thomas begins to walk off by him self towards the church which is over a mile away. Neko upon touching the black widow pendant around his neck is lost in the shear number of insects that wish to talk to him, this has never happened to any of them and the perspective seems to have them all clammiring to speak. The only impression he can gain is "Large birds, sky, above, and gone.

Pip Goodfield
Thursday September 16th, 1999 5:17:59 AM

Realizing where Thomas is going, Pip decides to wait for the others. He looks around at the others, just watching to see what they do.

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 16th, 1999 7:00:59 AM

Sheepishly realizing that I must first go to the church in order to open the door, I simply begin walking in that direction.

Neko
Thursday September 16th, 1999 9:11:59 AM

I straighten and look to the sky, as if to find final remanents of the strange bird spoken of. I sigh, the oddity of the situation peaking my curiosity. I head towards the church calling to Solomar. When I reach Solomar I speak to him. "What's going on with you, Pip, and Holly?"

Pip Goodfield
Thursday September 16th, 1999 11:29:59 AM

Pip thinks for a short while, and looks around at most of the party, pondering. Then he speaks up. "Are you the people who came in on the boat? Last night, I came back a bit too late to show up at the inn, so I went to my foster parents' home. My dad was talking about some 'durn-fool people come on a boat, dressed all up for war or somethin'' He also said that they came off the boat and prepared for a fight almost. Are you those people?" He looks around, waiting for an answer.

Alec
Thursday September 16th, 1999 8:11:59 PM

Answering Pip, "We did arive on a boat yesterday, but we had no intention of fighting, or war. We had been lost at sea for a long time, and were not familiar with your people. We were merely attempting to ensure our personal safety. Perhaps the townspeople will be more receptive to us if we help them out with these bird creatures that seem to be bothering them. By the way Pip, are you familiar with herbs? Where I am from, there are herbs of healing that look a lot like some of the plants I see around here." Alec will wait for Pip's answer, before following the rest of the group to the church.

Trace
Thursday September 16th, 1999 10:30:59 PM

Trace makes his way to the church and tries to make a quick look around the church before Sir Thomas makes his entry. Looking for anything that may be note worthy.

Guardian Solomar
Friday September 17th, 1999 1:09:59 AM

I turn to Neko. "I'm not sure. I'll find out once I'm sure we're all out of danger." Seeing that Thomas has opened the door, and Gniffle has walked in, I walk up to the door and peer inside.

Pip Goodfield
Friday September 17th, 1999 2:01:59 AM

Pip looks at Alec. "I don't know about any bird-creatures bothering our village. I do know that someone or something hit me on the back of the head, and I want to pay it back. And as for herbs, I don't know much about those, except as pertains to food, Holly'd be better at answering stuff like that. I guess we better head over with the rest..." With that, Pip heads towards the church with the rest.

Holly (DM S)
Friday September 17th, 1999 2:24:59 AM

before Holly joins the rest of the group at the church entrance, she goes off by herself and looks at a large oak tree. After a few minuets, she joins the rest of the group. "This church is also a safe place for travelers like rangers and bards and those sort of people. We always leave a marker on that tree, to tell when its been last used, but there isnt any mark. Be very careful when you enter."

DM (A)
Friday September 17th, 1999 3:00:59 AM

As the group approaches the church they must first cross through a glade of Oaks at the bottom of the hill. These Oaks are strange in the respect that their leafs ar about five times the size of the oaks that you are used to, also there leaves are translucent allowing a bit of light through them to the glade floor. About half way through the glade the rain stops and the sun comes out. Suddenly the world is lit up in a swirling aray of color as the light comes throught the leafs. Your heads spin slightly as they adjust to this shifting of color and shadow. It is difficult to tell what is real and what is a trick of the leafs and shadow. Quietly off to the left however you hear a sneeze, and then a curse. Some one was tring to hide.

Pip Goodfield
Friday September 17th, 1999 5:41:59 AM

Pip turns his head quickly towards the sneeze, and calls out "Who's there?"

Sir Thomas
Friday September 17th, 1999 7:49:59 AM

I turn toward the sound crouching slightly and tensing my muscles. I draw my sword and raise my shield, "Show yourself!"

Gniffle  d100=44

Alec
Friday September 17th, 1999 9:05:59 PM

Alec draws the mule around between himself and the sound of the sneeze. He draws his dagger and waits for whatever is hiding to reveal itself.

Trace
Saturday September 18th, 1999 9:29:59 AM

Trace spins around to face the direction of the sneeze. Doing that Trace also readies his sheild and draws his sword and looking upward in the trees to see if there is something hideing up there.

Holly (DM A)
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 2:27:59 AM

Holly drops to one knee, clutching at her arm. after whispering a strange chant, the wound closes. she gets up, walks over to Donk, and says,"What are you doing here!"

Tuesday September 21st, 1999 2:30:59 AM

I take a second calculated attack at my assailant. (hitting ac5, for 8 hit points for a total of 14 to him) Leaving my attacker with a mortal wound across his entire chest (I hope). I survey the melee and see Alec in need of help. I charge his attacker "Argghhh!!" I swing wildly trying to remove his head for him, but having seen me coming he dodges my attack easily.

I watch the attackers leave. Then I go to Tom and put my hand on his wound. "Hold still a moment." I cure as much of his wound as I can (3 pts. healed).

Pip Goodfield
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 4:09:59 AM

Seeing the attackers flee, Pip retrieves his darts, then goes over to Holly and Donk. "Hi, Donk, nice of you to show up." After Holly's question, Pip echoes, "Yeah, why are you here?"

Donk
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 5:13:59 AM

"Donk follow men who talk to bird men, Donk see them set trap, Donk stay and watch, see who fall into trap. Donk think new friends pretty stupid to fall for simple trap, but you fight good."

Trace
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 7:03:59 AM

After Trace looks over the two bodies looking for anything that might be of value, of use, or let us know who they were he then turns to Donk. You should have given us warning instead of testing us. Then Trace turns to Holly, I hope you now belive that we can take care of ourselves and put any doubts that you had away. After makeing these statements Trace kneals donw and gives a prayer of thanks to the god Alemi.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 7:31:59 AM

Seeing that the attackers had fled, simply let them go. After Guardian heals me, "thank you friend. Domi will be proud." I say a short, silent prayer of appeasment to Domi and a prayer for the mercy of these men's souls to Alemi. When that is all through, "Did you find anything of interest Trace?"

Alec
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 6:48:59 PM

Alec will attempt to retrieve the mule (which still has his and Sir Thomas's stuff on it), as the attackers seem to have fled in a hurry. He will then wipe the blood from his dagger on the grass, and put it back in his boot sheath. Returning to donk, "Where did you find these 'men who talk to bird men', and where have you seen them talking to 'bird men'."

Gniffle
Tuesday September 21st, 1999 8:20:59 PM

The little gnome looks at his axe in disgust as it seems to have done no dammage to the bandit who had it firmly planted in his spinal column(or so he thought). "Dagnabbit, Who the heck were they and why did they attempt a hit on us?" He puts his little axe back in his belt and loos around for anything that would give away the origins of this motley group.

Holly (DM A)
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 2:20:59 AM

after searching the bodies, Trace and Gniffle find about 12 silver pieces and four shortswords. after unmasking then, Trace reconizes one of them men from the docks yesterday, though the rest he doesnt reconize.

Holly (DM A)
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 2:25:59 AM

the road to the abandonded church is a half mile away. a path leads through the heavy woods. Holly looks at the unmasked men. "I knew some of the villagers were involved as highwaymen. A fitting fate." She kicks the nearest body, then starts making her way up the path.

Trace
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 6:27:59 AM

Trace picks up the money and fastens the four swords to the mule if it is back yet. We can sell these swords in the next town incase we have to buy supplies for our group. Like a boat rental or something. Trace returns his own sword to its sheath and follows Holly down the path.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 7:14:59 AM

"I assume everyone is ok." I state rather bluntly just to make sure no one is hurt. I follow Holly down the path while working my arm around in cicles to work out some of the soreness of the injury that Guardian healed. I then work the other one as it has been many months since I had swung a sword. I catch up to Holly and begin asking questions to pass some time and be friendly. "Does this kind of thing happen frequently in these parts Holly? Did I hear you say something about knowing those thugs? Where are you from if not from here?"

Neko
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 7:30:59 AM

I return to the group, conveniently averting the melee. I step amongst the downed bodies. "This just keeps getting better and better." I follow Holly and Trace, looking about for Solomar.

Pip Goodfield
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 7:52:59 AM

Looking at one of the bodies. Pip starts. "I knew him. I never thought he'd ever sink THIS low..." He sighs, and then grins at Donk. "I wasn't really expecting a trap. But you said there were bird-men, where did they go? I have a little debt to settle with them." He pats his staff in his hand at this.

Guardian Solomar
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 8:34:59 PM

I wave to Neko. "Where've you been? Could've used your help." I look at some of the men's bodies, checking for any religious artifacts, tatoos, or distinguishing marks. "I'd like to know why we're generating such a hostile reaction from these people. I've got a theory, but..." I continue my search.

Alec
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 8:54:59 PM

"Maybe they were the ones that broke into the store. Why don't we go down to the church, just to see what is there. At least we can use it to rest while we figure out whether to continue the search."

Gniffle
Wednesday September 22nd, 1999 9:13:59 PM

As the party begins to set out towards the church the little gnome bends over one of the bodies and curiously makes the sighn of Wardd. Glancing around quickly he runs to catch up with the others.

Pip Goodfield
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 12:42:59 AM

Pip looks at Solomar. "Most people here don't like anything new, it threatens them. The only reason they tolerate me, Donk, Holly, and a few others, is because we've lived with them for a while." He smirks. "Otherwise, I would have run off when I had that falling out with the dockworkers. But since they weren't after my blood, it seemed safer here." Pip looks at the other bodies, and sighs, mumbling to himself. "I knew quite a few of them. It's amazing how low people can sink."

Neko
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 2:53:59 AM

I watch Solomar. "Would you believe I was talking to a bug?" As the group walks I look to Pip. "I understand newcomers not being looked at too fondly. But, these are drastic measures aren't they?"

Holly (DM A)
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 4:06:59 AM

Alec is able to retrive the mule, as the thug let go of it as he fled. as the party makes it way towards the church, Holly turns to Sir Thomas. "Im from here. I dont know if you can tell, but im not a pure elf. My mother was a elf, and my father was a man. As for knowing them, this is a small village. People need to do what they can to survive. And lets face it, in your armor and your weapons, your group look pretty wealthy. Desprate people do desprate things."

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 6:29:59 PM

"I see. You make a strong defense for their actions. Should we be more cautious now that this group has attacked? I mean, would they go get friends and try again?"

Alec
Thursday September 23rd, 1999 10:39:59 PM

Alec is slightly annoyed that Donk had not answered his questions about the 'men who talk to bird men', but what do you expect from a dwarf named Donk. Turning to Pip, "You may already have found your payback for the lump on your head."

Pip Goodfield
Friday September 24th, 1999 9:15:59 AM

Pip thinks a bit, and says "Yeah, these aren't the sort of people that it would surprise me to be waylayed by them. But these bird-creatures." He looks at Neko. "Umm, whatever your name is, didn't you pick up a feather of a sort? It seems like there's something weird going on." Pip looks at the others, trying to find words. "On behalf of the people of this town, I'm sorry for whatever mistreatment or discourtesy you had. Personally, I always like it when new people come in. Then I can learn more about the world outside here, I've never really been that far." He then adds under his breath "But I don't like it when they act condescending." He turns to Thomas, and says "Probably not, what good is money if you're dead?" Then he turns to Alec. "Payback is when I return the favor to those who gave it to me. Anything else is extra."

Donk
Friday September 24th, 1999 9:53:59 PM

Donk has again dissapeared

Trace
Saturday September 25th, 1999 7:59:59 PM

Trace chuckels to himself listening to the sparing of words between Pip and Alec but keeps makeing his way to the church.

Sunday September 26th, 1999 7:53:59 PM

Alec will continue on his way to the church, keeping an eye out for another possible ambush.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday September 28th, 1999 12:19:59 AM

I draw my sword and run low to the ground trying to cover as much of my body with my shield as I can. I put my back against the wall of the church next to the door and wait for everyone to get into their chosen positions of seige. While waiting, I try to listen inside for commotion.

Pip Goodfield
Tuesday September 28th, 1999 12:47:59 AM

Trace kicks the door hard and it does not give. It seems to be locked and bared from the inside. He raises his foot to kick it again when a old gravley voice comes from deep inside. "Hold on, hold on I'm comming, can't get there any faster than I'm going, sounds like your tring to kick the door in sheeshe. Think they world was about to end or something with all the racket."

Pip Goodfield
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 3:54:59 AM

Pip jumps at the sound of Trace kicking, then turns to him, saying "What are you doing? If there's anyone in there, stealth is better." He starts to mutter about head-strong fighters when he hears the voice.

Sir Thomas can hear a muffled sound that sounds like someone is digging.

not realizing what Trace was about to do, Holly is motioning to the others to be ready. Then she hears the smash as Trace tries to kick in the door. she whirls around, glaring at him. hearing the voice from inside, she mutters to herself, "So much for surprise.".

Trace
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 7:31:59 AM

Feeling a bit like a fool Trace lowers his sword a little to see who answers the door. While waiting for the door to open Trace says "To rush in with the door swinging open would have been a suprise on our part next time I will make sure that you know what I am going to do"

I look about as I move along the side of the building...

Pip Goodfield
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 9:38:59 AM

Pip looks at Trace, and comments "You looks like a Ranger or some such, don't Rangers know of stealth?" He then looks at the door. "And there may have been no enemies and you would've made the wrong impression. People are usually less inclined to civility when you rush in as to attack."

Alec
Wednesday September 29th, 1999 8:42:59 PM

"The man inside doesn't seem to know that Trace kicked at the door. Let's just pretend it was a clumsy knock. Perhaps when the man opens the door, Sir Thomas can try to "look into his soul" (alighnment check) to determine how much we can trust him. He may be a potential ally." With that Alec continues to wait outside the door for the occupant to come forth.

I brace for whatever is coming to the door of the church. "People here seem to react negatively to us whether we kick down doors or knock politely on them." I keep my ruby symbol of Alemi in plain view; no use hiding it here, I think.

Pip Goodfield
Thursday September 30th, 1999 12:08:59 AM

Pip looks at Alec, astonished. "That is one of the rudest things you can do to someone. And unless Thomas stays out of the way, and generally out of sight, the person will notice." He then turns to Solomar. "Most people do, I agree, but kicking down a door is not the answer. At least be civil, or you may get a thief's welcome."

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 30th, 1999 2:56:59 AM

I ease off a bit and sheath my sword at the reaction of the man from inside. I then turn to Alec, "That seems logical to me too Alec, but I have been told that to look into someone's soul is impolite here." Then I look at Pip, "Pip, why is that rude? This thing is a common practice where we come from, and although I understand we are not there anymore, I don't see the rudeness of it. Afterall, it is not an invasion upon the person, and I can learn a lot about their intentions without putting them or myself at risk." (I too leave my medallion in its proper place dangling onto my chest over my armor knowing that my identity is more important than my safety.)

Thursday September 30th, 1999 3:03:59 AM

a middle aged man opens the door. he is wearing dirty, brown robes and his head is shaved. he looks over the group quickly, then says "Well, what do you want?"

Gniffle
Thursday September 30th, 1999 5:12:59 AM

the little gnome places his handaxe back into his belt and moves off to the side of the group so he cn observe the man and his actions. a perplexed look crosses his face and vanishes just as quickly.

Pip Goodfield
Thursday September 30th, 1999 8:17:59 AM

Pip, about to protest, stops when the man comes. He looks at Trace, and stifles a remark. "Well, we are looking for some strange people. They knocked me unconscious and were rude enough to try to run away when we wanted to ask them why. Perhaps you may have seen some people running through?" He looks around the area. "We seem to have lost their trail."

Trace
Thursday September 30th, 1999 8:42:59 AM

Returning my sword back to its proper place I lean into Pip and speek quitely. You sure are quick to judge us on our beliefs on religion and common practice. Besides I belive that after being attacked and loseing the trail of the attackers , so seeing that this is the most likely place they went my action is well warrented. And on your suggestion of a theifs welcome I hope you dont plan on doing the welcomeing yourself cause I dont go down quickly like a common dock worker. If any thing is rude is throwing about a threat like that rather than haveing my soul checked.

Guardian Solomar

I try to sneak a peek inside the door, while the old man is talking to Pip.

Sir Thomas
Thursday September 30th, 1999 8:21:59 PM

I step between Pip and the man of the church. Standing straight and proud I offer a humble expalnation of our situation. "We apologize for any inconvenience that we have placed upon you this day, but actually Sir, we are simple travelers who noticed your church while passing by in the rain. We got a little turned around on the trail a little way back and were hoping we could take cover from the rain to get our bearings and eat a modest lunch. We would only be here a short while, and then we will be moving on. I can assure you Sir that we would be quiet and respectful of your place of holiness." I take a glance at Holly hoping that she will step in and speak up for us since she may know the man, or at least know what better to say in these parts.

Alec doesnt notice anyting unusual while checking the side of the Abby. The old man looks at Sir Thomas, then Pip. "Well, whats your story? It doesnt really matter anyway. I cant let you in. I would like to, but I have some men from the town helping me restore this Abby. Its not really safe for you to come in right now. Ceiling might collapse."

Pip looks at the old man, and says "Just where are you from and to whom is this abbey dedicated to? I haven't seen anyone near it before." He then looks back at Trace and whispers, "You have much to learn of this area. If you think a dockworker goes down easy, you are wrong. And people here are distrustful of spell-casters, start casting a spell at someone, and they usually assume it is no good for them, otherwise you would have asked them their permission. Of course, if you are fighting already, it matters little. I may not be especially wise, but I know the people around here better than you. You haven't lived twenty-odd years with them." He then looks to the old man again. "Well, perhaps we could aid you. If any of it requires basic manual labor, I can help." A thought occurs to him, and then a tinge of suspicion edges into his voice. "And if the ceiling may fall in at any moment, what are you doing under it?" With that, he tries to peer past the old man into the Abbey.

Not seeing anything of any interest, I move back to the front of the building with the rest of the group.

While trying to look inside the cathedral, I listen to the "20-odd years" lecture that Trace is getting from Pip. When the little man is done harranging my traveling companion, I take a moment to pull Trace aside. I whisper to Trace, "Ignore Pip. He can't relate to our situation. Now, what do you think's going on here? Why all this hostility toward a bunch of peaceful strangers like us?" I am careful with my voice, knowing I am near the presence of strangers and that they could conceviably overhear me . . . although they look preoccupied at the moment.

Trace
Sunday October 3rd, 1999 7:11:59 AM

Speaking in a low voice Trace returns his sword. I belive someone has forseen us comeing that is here for their own selfish reasons. I dont belive we would encounter such hostil reactions by simple mistrust alone. Of course I have no proof just a gut feeling. I do feel strong about this feeling though.

Guardian Solomar

Continuing the whispered conversation to Trace, "When we first arrived in Heranmar, people spoke of other strangers who came before us. I think we need to find THOSE strangers." An idea pops into my mind. "Let me ask the old man something."

Gniffle

As the others are buisily talking to the old man the ittle gnome slips away unnoticed. He follows the walls of the cathedral looking for anything amiss or out of the ordinary.

Pip Goodfield
Monday October 4th, 1999 12:49:59 AM

Pip looks at the old man, a bit embarrased. "They're from elsewhere, and their arrival served to put them on edge. You must excuse them. But again I ask, why are you staying in there if it is so dangerous to do so?

DM A
Monday October 4th, 1999 2:43:59 AM

the old man looks at the group at the door. "I come from up north, near the Elvin border." then he looks at Pip, his annoyance evident on his face. "We started working on restoring the roof today. We have to replace the support boards. We are taking precautions, but the whole roof could still colapse. Thanks for offering, but i have all the help I need. I dont think someone your size could do much to help anyway, little man." Pip cant see anything in the Abby, as the old man's body fills the half opened door fully, but everyone near the door can definatly hear some kind of work going on. Gniffle doesnt seem to notice anything unusual while walking around the Abby. there are a few tools scattered near the back of the Abby, and there is a big pile of dirt back there too, somewhere around 3 feet wide(gniffle needs to make a perception check).

Holly (DM A)

Holly looks a little agitated, but doesnt say anything, waiting to see what the companions do

Sir Thomas
Monday October 4th, 1999 2:47:59 AM

"We apreciate your concern for our safety sir, but we would really appreciate being out of the rain for a short while for some lunch. We would even risk having your ceiling fall in on us. We would not be an inconvenience to you sir. Do you have any need of further assitance in remodeling your abby? We may be willing to trade a half days worth of work for a dry place to sleep."

Pip Goodfield
Monday October 4th, 1999 3:25:59 AM

Pip looks at the man suspiciously. "I thought you said the workers hadn't come yet. I hear some sort of work going on. And I worked at the docks for a short while, I can do as much work as anyone else you might have..." Pip pauses. "You're pretty far from the Elven border. I don't believe you've given us any real information about any of this." He looks around. "Something is definitely not right here." He looks at the man again. "And I think I may be looking at that something."

Trace
Monday October 4th, 1999 6:30:59 AM

Seeing the group continue to prod the old man with questions and finnaly Pip is starting to annoy someone on the other side is a relife, Trace turns his back to the group and draws his sword to keep watch out for a possible attack from behind.

Alec
Monday October 4th, 1999 7:48:59 PM

Alec says to Sir Thomas, "Do you think we should go in and have a look around? These could be some of the same people that just attacked us but one mile from this very spot." Spoken loudly enough for the man in the doorway to hear.

Pip Goodfield

Gniffle fails to notice anything(if a d20 is used. what is the perception dice thrown against anyways?)

Sir Thomas
Tuesday October 5th, 1999 6:27:59 AM

At having the door slammed in my face I wheel about on the group. "That was uncalled for behavior! Speaking of being RUDE, Pip you should learn to keep your accusations to yourself until you are sure that they are correct assumptions. Yes, he may have been a bandit, but we don't know that. He also could have been a simple priest trying to bring religion to these people. The point is WE DON'T KNOW! Alec, your actions were also uncalled for. There are better ways of finding such things out than using threats. We have just come across to this man as the dockworkers came across to us back in town. If we are truely trying to help this town then we should not be bullying its inhabitants. We have just drug our already dirty names through the mud." Flustered and rosey red with embarassment because of the rudeness of my companions I don't know what else to say. "Does anyone have any suggestions what to do now?"

Pip Goodfield  d100=81
Tuesday October 5th, 1999 7:23:59 AM

Pip looks back at Thomas, astonished. "Rude? What do you call what he was doing? And what do you mean, 'bring' religion to us? We have religion. If you cannot see that, that's your problem, but don't call us godless by inference! And I've been all throughout the area, even up to the Elven borders, and never ONCE seen this man. It may have been a good idea for me not to have accused him, I agree, but you must admit that he was acting very strangely. Unless he follows an evil or deceitful god, I see no reason for him to be so." Pip looks around. "Hmm. I wonder if I can scale that wall..." He thinks a bit, and then tries to climb up it. He falls back about 5 feet up, and decides not to try again. "Stupid rain." He looks around for the abbey for any windows or portals anywhere.

Trace  d100=64
Tuesday October 5th, 1999 7:49:59 AM

Trace looks for a window and sees if he can see anything inside useing his infravision. He then looks to Holley, Well we can push our way in or like my friend here suggested we can go and look for the other strangers that have come to town. My vote is that we do both. A preist locking doors is not a common situation and that tells me there is something to hide. We make our way in by force survey the situation and then go and look for the other strangers that have come into town.
