Dm Monday November 29th, 1999 1:19:59 AM
As you all come out of the sea. there is a broad 80 wide band of sandy beech that slopes upward at around 20 degrees and runs as far as you can see to both directions as it curves away about 200 feet to each side. Abruptly at about 85 ft away from the ocean starts a thick and dark forest. Off to your right is an opening in the trees which can only be what you assume is the path, as you cannot see the ground level from where you are from below. Straight ahead and to your left are two human like figures lying face down in the sand. You are all getting kinda tired from a lack of sleep.
Bill Monday November 29th, 1999 6:37:59 AM
Bill uses his non-magical sword to prod the ground ahead of him. Doesn't want any surprise nips to his toes. Approaches the two who lie face down. Continues to probe sand, walks around those on the beach, observing them for a moment.
Sedar the tired Mage Monday November 29th, 1999 6:39:59 AM

Draax Monday November 29th, 1999 11:02:59 AM

Rond Monday November 29th, 1999 2:05:59 PM

As you approach the figures in the sand you realize that they are very dead around them are a rotting backpack full of what appear to be rotting sacks, several rusted spikes, a flask of congealed oil, and a set of mouldy clothes. Beside one body is a rusted, notched long sword and a smashed wooded shield. flakes of rusted metal are scattered all around the body. A rusty, dented helm still sit atop this skeletons head. On the second body, there is no backpack but there is a large belt pouch which is split and looks tampered with. Along side the body are a shattered short sword, a dented but rust free helm there is a withered and cracked quiver on its back with several arrows in it all but two are rotted away. this corpse is also still wearing a boot. As Bill prods the sand around the body, his sword strikes something hard and is stuck fast, there is some give but it is almost like something is tugging back. Even before he can utter a cry, a claw comes out of the sand followed by a giant crab. in the crab's rush to reach Bill and the fact his other claw is grasping Bill's sword, the other claw misses bill. Bill and the party are surprised. (Now in Melee Crab is AC 4. Crab has Initiative.)

Both Rond's and Bill's strikes strike home and Rond's shot even shears off one of the crab's legs, allowing green ichor to start oozing on to the sand. Borbo and Galahad were so surprised by the appearance of the Giant crab that they stood still and speechless for an entire round. The crab having tasted of halfling flesh and deciding it is too hairy to eat fresh, this time makes and grad for A more stationary target and strikes Galahad for 5 points of damage. As Bill's darts strike home the crab turns to make a run for the water but is impaled by arrow, sword, and trident and becomes instant crab soup. There are the two bodies and the path up on top of the beach in the tree line. There is also of course the forest.
Rond d20=17 Tuesday December 7th, 1999 6:28:59 AM

After the two swigs, he looks at the bodies. "Poor fellas," he comments. Then, with a sign, he carries out Branze's instructions to search the bodies, helping Borbo (if he joins in). "How are you doin', cousin? Find anything?" Then he retrieves two of the three darts, one that glanced off the helmet, and one that hit the crab. "Should we bury them now? Sand is fast."

Draax keeps his sword out while scanning the area, he will help bury the dead if that is what the party decides.
K'isst Tuesday December 7th, 1999 7:45:59 PM
K'isst focuses on the Branze's back. She couldn't believe that Branze let loose with compliments. Would this group never cease to surprise her? She straightens and puts away her trident. "Let the dead bury themselves. People are probably dying back in Windhorn and possibly elsewhere by now. I will not stop for something sentimental." She marches down the trail after Branze. As she disappears into the forest, she speaks over her shoulder. "Come. Please. We're nearly there."

The quick search was more fruitful than any thought it might be. For Bill when searching the first body removes the Helm and finds stuck to the inside in a watertight package in a piece of greased vellum wrapper is a piece of parchment. Also found are 18cp 5ep and a copper ring. the small shield is dented but serviceable and rust free. there is also a small jeweled dagger found in one boot. In the quiver among the score of rotting arrows are two that are in fine shape, almost as if they mere just made. Arien is unable to retrieve either of his arrows as they were snapped off. Branze, K'isst, Sedar, and Rond have gotten to the beginning of "The Path," there is almost a palpable feeling of evil coming from the surrounding, dark, forest and there is some rustling heard from deep within and out of your sight. "The Path" is obviously well used and well maintained. "The Path" is made up of small highly polished red and white pebbles set into patterns. Every 20 ft or so are two large pots containing more of these pebbles, which are obviously used to replace dislodged or missing pieces. From the top of the beach across the sand to where "The Path" starts there are signs of many webbed feet and a disturbed area where it looks like something might have been dragged. "The Path curves and disappears into the forest and you can see no further than about 120 ft.
K'isst Wednesday December 8th, 1999 7:41:59 PM
K'isst stops and listens for a second. She then says, softly, "We need to make a marching order for protection here. I'll either go last or first. There's not enough of a view for a scout to take the front, or is there? Branze, you're trained in tactics, right? Where do you want me?"
Branze Bones Thursday December 9th, 1999 6:50:59 AM
"Well I say that Rond should lead with his pathfinding skills. Then should come our bow men and mages. If something does come down the path. Then they can lay into it with fire while our melee members move to engage. The halflings should run flank, if something hits us from the woods, they have the best chance of detecting it coming. And they might be not seen by what ever force approaches from the woods. K'isst you could take rear guard, though you may have the best chance of understanding are enemy if they do wish to talk. That leaves me on rear guard duty. My watch will be vigilant, and i will have a clear path forward if need be. If the fighting is tight, then praise be to Domi i will invoke his chants to aid us in the battle." he says as he tries to get everyone in to tactical positions to continue the march.
Bill Troublefinder Thursday December 9th, 1999 9:16:59 AM
Bill comes huffing and puffing up from behind carrying things. He listens to Branze's suggestions, and is impressed. Then he speaks up. "Good plan, Branze. Oh, oh, I got some stuff here. Let's see - this here's a good helmet, nice and solid." He opens the package stuck within it, being careful that the wrapping can be reused. "And I found this parchment." He takes a look at it. "There's a little money, and this ring." He slips the copper ring onto the little finger of his left hand to see if it fits, then takes it off. "And someone can use the small shield. It didn't even get rusty. Maybe it's magic? Has a little dent, though." He then holds up the small jeweled dagger. [What kind of jewel(s)?] "Borbo, you wanna try this?" And to Arien, he holds out the two fine arrows. "I'm sure these are magical. Why don't you use 'em if you need to, Arien?"
Bill Troublefinder Thursday December 9th, 1999 9:23:59 AM

K'isst looks a little shocked that Branze wanted her to be up front, but she nods acceptance. "Rond, I'm right behind you. Let's go." She moves off after Rond walking as quietly as she can. K'isst and the others stop before entering the forest, but Rond is already 15 to 20 feet in when he hears Bill's warning. There is a sudden waft of putrefying odor that emanates from the woods, but then that is gone as well. As Rond calms down, you all get back on track and head up the path. all of those who made their perception check notice two things, first, that what ever is in the forest seems to stop about 15 ft or so from the path and either cant or wont come closer. And secondly, the Red pebbles in the path make up pictures that seem to be part of a history or story of some sort. The picture that caught your eye is one that is Obviously meant to be Atomos being turned into stone. As you go along you see other pictures that are vaguely familiar as if they were part of a history lesson, That is being told in a very strange way. Further along the path and finally in view of the temple is the last red picture and the rest of the path is all white stones. The last picture is one of the sea devils dancing around something that looks like the Sentinel Head and there are other figures lying prone, that they are trampling upon. Up ahead about 300 yards is the temple. It is obviously very old, each exterior walls seems to be made from what appears to single pieces of stone, the roof is smooth, Domed and partially translucent. there does not seem to be a seam between the walls and roof. There are no visible windows and the 10' x 5' double doors are open.

"As the party makes its way ahead to the temple and the halfling trickster makes an arrow through the Sea Devil's head a slow breeze tussles your hair. Not knowing if this is a good omen or bad you step into the sea devils lair. The interior of the temple consists of a stone platform rising from out of the surrounding troughs of 20' deep water. The central walkway of the platform runs from the door to a circular dais that is raised above the rest of the platform. Stepping in closer you all can make out, a huge marble statue of the shark god Sekola. There is also a bloodstained marble altar at the base of the statue that has manacles and chains inset into its surface. The statue is old, bloodstained, fragile and brittle in places. Also very noticeable is that the statue is also translucent, and seem in the center of the statue is a small silver hammer. The water in the temple seems foul with blood and the whole temple seems to reek of evil. The hammer and platform seem to hold importance in this place. It must be the altar.
Bill Troublefinder d20=19 Monday December 20th, 1999 8:34:59 AM
The halfling enjoys the gentle breeze, and lifts a quick prayer to Donyra as they walk to the temple, and an even quicker note to Domi, just in case. Looking into the building, Bill tugs on Sedar's sleeve, encouraging him to lean down for a whisper. "You know what to do, right? That hammer in the shark is one thing we need to get." Bill looks around the temple, observing where shadows may fall. He nudges Borbo. "Hey, cuz, try that thing, eh?" he whispers, pointing to his relative's ring finger. He then points out the water to the party, miming the face of a toothy sahuagin, his arms making a swimming motion. He steps into a shadow near the edge of the entrance. [Body Equilibrium initiated.] Bill glances up toward the ceiling.
Draax Monday December 20th, 1999 5:59:59 PM
Draax scans the area for any movement other than the party's, holding his long sword ready.
K'isst Monday December 20th, 1999 7:45:59 PM
K'isst rotates her trident to it's offensive position and steps in. She tries to take in everything as she looks at everyone with her finger to her lips asking all to be silent. Moving to the right flank, she waits for either Bill and Borbo to case the joint or more likely for Brother Branze to boldly go.
Branze Bones Tuesday December 21st, 1999 4:20:59 AM
"This is a evil place. That i believe is a altar, but i wonder why no guards remain. Have they partied so much to leave us a open gateway?" he says stepping forward with long sword clutched. Looking at the motion of one of the cousins he agrees and watches the water as he makes his way to the altar.
Rond Tuesday December 21st, 1999 9:04:59 AM
Once Rond enters, we will move to the left flank keeping his back to the wall, and covering both towards the altar, and K'isst's area.
Sedar the Mage Wednesday December 22nd, 1999 1:11:59 AM
Bending down to hear little Bill "You know what to do, right? That hammer in the shark is one thing we need to get." then replies whispering "As soon as I can get my hand on it we out of here" The 1/2 elf then follows up behind the fighter types. Vaguely signing to the others that he going to grab the hammer as soon as he can get close enough.
K'isst Wednesday December 22nd, 1999 3:48:59 PM
K'isst motions for everyone to stay spread out so attacks cannot be focused. She shivers looking at the "catwalk" in the center. It reeks of ambush. K'isst then takes a few steps down the right stairs leading into the water. She looks carefully to see if there is any movement or waves in the water. After that, she watches the water carefully observing how transparent the water is. She wants to know if she will be able to see Sea Devils if they are down there. She points to the towers behind the party as things that should be explored. She whispers in Branze's ear extremely softly. "Someone should explore the towers back there. We shouldn't leave that flank unknown and exposed."
The Sea Devils arrive d10=7 d10=3 Wednesday December 22nd, 1999 5:54:59 PM
As some of the group draws weapons and others fan out forwards watching the walls and the water a noise of footsteps is heard. Coming from one wall, steps out a large Sea Devil with a mace and a holy symbol about his neck. From the other side of the temple steps three other Sea Devils. The large one points towards your group and two from the far wall. come rushing towards you, each with trident down and ready. The two others quickly begin, chanting something in a strange language. ((See map of inside temple for there positions. The party has won initiative, bad guys are ac 5 although it will take several rounds to reach the chanters and one more round before the chargers come into position.))
Arien d20=17 d20=15 d6=3 d6=5 Wednesday December 22nd, 1999 8:13:59 PM
Seeing the chanting Sea Devil Arien quickly fires off two arrows at it. The arrows whip over the shoulder of one of the charging Sahuagin and sink into the arm and chest of the chanting Sea Devil for 8 points of damage.
Bill T Thursday December 23rd, 1999 2:02:59 AM
[OOC clarification request: Looking at the scale on Map 3: Temple Plan - the entryway is 100' from side to side, about 70' between the doors, so Rond & Arien would be about 25 feet from the nearest chanters (and Borbo & Bill about 30 feet from the leader). Or are the dimensions vastly different from the map? Just trying to understand before major action, as closure with sahuagin could take place this round, rather than a few rounds hence. Or are some chanters adjacent to the altar, about 170' from the entrance door, but just not drawn on the new map? Help! :-)]
Bill T d20=10 Thursday December 23rd, 1999 2:21:59 AM
Bill focuses his attention inward for a moment [biofeedback starts (spot on roll, power score means AC drops 3 to 6! -if you allow power scores, otherwise AC 8)], then prepares his darts for launching next round. [If the leader charges them, Bill will leap aside, and run on the surface of the water in a zigzag pattern up to half his movement.] He hopes that Borbo has his ring of invisibility on.
Sedar the Mage d100=88 Thursday December 23rd, 1999 3:10:59 AM
Seeing the attack coming from both sides he shouts to those on the walkway to come back. "Branze , K'isst ..... Draax come back" The 1/2 elf will then make his way towards the hammer as the others engage in combat. (OOC if he can make it to the hammer he will observe how its held before trying to remove it.)(failed chk traps)
Draax Thursday December 23rd, 1999 5:23:59 AM
Hearing Sedar's call Draax spins around and rushes towards one of the chargers, ready to deflect the trident and engage in combat next round.
Bill Troublefinder d20=14 d20=13 d20=6 d3=3 d3=2 d20=12 d3=3 Thursday December 23rd, 1999 11:11:59 AM
[Per your email] Bill targets the second chanter (the one without arrows in it), and hits (adj. -2 for med. range) AC 4 & 5, for 3+2=5 damage. His last two darts he hurls at the fellow on the side closer to him and Borbo. At short range, the first dart misses, but the second manages to hit AC 4 for 3 hp damage.
Rond d20=9 d20=11 d8=4 d8=3 Monday December 27th, 1999 5:43:59 AM
Rond quickly fires off two arrows (AC 7&5 for up to 4+3=7points) at the leader.
K'isst d20=7 d6+7=9 Tuesday December 28th, 1999 7:30:59 AM
K'isst, who was not on the catwalk, but on the stairs to the right of the catwalk, backs up into the entry way once again, so as to not have Sea Devils both in front and in back and sets her trident against the charge bracing the trident against her foot. (If charged, she hits AC6 for double damage against a charge for 18 points of damage in the unlikely event that she hits.)
