The Ring

Bill Troublefinder
Sunday May 7th, 2000 8:38:59 AM

Bill gets out of the way of everybody who is helping pull K'isst to safety, picks up his sword outside the temple, and moves away from the collapsing structure. He blows another bubble. "Does anybody have a dry cracker?" he asks.

K'isst
Sunday May 7th, 2000 9:12:59 PM

K'isst suddenly sits up and shakes her head. "Stupid! So stupid!" Her face turns 100 shades of red for her blunder. Then she sees the bubble coming out of Bill's mouth. She rushes to him wrapping her strong arms around him and squeezing: trying anything to get him to burp the thing up. She then tries jamming her fingers down Bill's throat to see if he'll toss his cookies.

Bill Troublefinder  d20=15
Sunday May 7th, 2000 10:28:59 PM

To Bill it seems like K'isst has gone crazy. He sees the look on her face. Then she is squeezing his chest. "C-can't ... breathe." As she tries to jam her fingers down his throat, Bill just has to get away! Suddenly, he *pop*s out of her arms, and reappears immediately about ten yards away, by the stone inlay of the dancing sahuagin and the Sentinel Head. [10 PSPs, teleport.] He starts running down the pathway. "Help! She's touched!"

The halfling's receding voice says, "I just asked for a cracker..."

Everyone and the Head has made it outdoors and the temple is collapsing in on itself. K'isst does her chest squeeze and Bill finds he is having a hard time breathing and pops out and away for a moment. When he does so he feels a sharp pain in his chest as he pops out. As he reappears he realizes several things. First, that he is having a real hard time breathing, second, that his lower right chest is very sore and currently covered with a frothy blood. And thirdly, he realizes, as he looks down and collapses that there is a 2 inch, perfectly round hole in his chest. Meanwhile as K'isst squeezes Bill and reaches to stick her fingers into Bill's mouth, two things happen. Bill disappears, blood sprays all over her arms and there is a ringing as something metallic and round strikes the ground.

Draax  d8=1 d8=8
Monday May 8th, 2000 7:09:59 AM

Draax puts K'isst down and lets her go as she recovers. He gets ready to help move the Head again, but stops as he sees K'isst goes over and starts squeezing Bill. He looks on for a second very confused, just when he is about to say that they must hurry. He freezes again as he watches K'isst try to put her fingers down Bill's throat. As he gets ready to go over and find out what is going on, Bill disappeared, reappeared and collapses a few feet away. Draax pulls out his last potion of extra healing as he runs over to Bill. He pours 1/3 of the potion down Bills throat, while rubbing his throat to help him swallow. Draax waits a little while (1 round) before giving Bill another portions of the potion. Draax puts up the last portion of the extra healing and picks Bill up. "Ok, I don't know what just happened, but we need to get moving." He starts moving in the direction that should get them back to the town. He pauses only long enough to make sure that the others are following.

Arrisa
Monday May 8th, 2000 2:42:59 PM

Unsure of what just happened. Arrisa wanders over to where Bill was to see if she can find the object that made the metallic sound as it struck the ground

Bill Troublefinder
Monday May 8th, 2000 7:43:59 PM

"Gaa-a," chokes out Bill as he sees the hole in his chest, then faints. After Draax's welcome ministrations, he revives somewhat. "B-bet-tter," he says. As Draax picks him up to start carrying him off, Bill says, "You're a good fellow, Andraaxius." His eyes close. He mumbles, "The ring. Watery ring. Branze. Sword." He opens his eyes. "Draax, find the ring. Find Branze's sword. We must ..." It is very hard to discern what else Bill says, as his voice goes into an incoherent mumble, and the little fellow appears to fall asleep.

Rond
Monday May 8th, 2000 8:04:59 PM

Seeing everything happen so quickly, and not knowing what else to do, Rond shakes his head, and then proceeds to pick up Borbo's body, and get ready to travel.

Sedar
Tuesday May 9th, 2000 3:59:59 AM

In charge of the head, Sedar pushes onwards towards town.

K'isst  d20=13
Tuesday May 9th, 2000 10:18:59 AM

K'isst is in shock for a moment as she realizes that is a totally different thing to have a friend's blood splatter over you. "Gaah! Arrisa, we must find that ring. Do you have it? It seems powerful, it powered that waterguy and his water monster. Don't put it on! Wrap it in something." While Arrisa searches for the ring, She grabs Branze's body and sees if his sword is on him. If not, she makes a quick glance around for it. Then she turns toward Arrisa to see that she has the ring. Guys, we need that ring I think. If for nothing else to see that it's destroyed since it's Sahuagin in origin. Gods what an awful thing!"

DM Kent (ring around the temple)  d20=4 d2=2
Tuesday May 9th, 2000 3:37:59 PM

While Bill snoozes and is taken care of, Arrisa searches for and somehow locates the offending bloody circle wrapped in what can only be the missing gory pieces of Bill. (Big O meets the missing Piece) As Arrisa picks up the ring several things are noticed. First, the ring is normal sized, and second it is currently frosted with ice particles. As the others stand around look after Bill or search for the ring, Sedar starts rolling down the path towards the beach. 100 ft down the path he runs across the arrow strewn, hacked body of Branze cloven shield and sword at his side. Moments later as Sedar is looking over Branze, K'isst comes up and joins him. At this moment there is a loud ringing of multiple bells coming from within the tunnel.

Ahkum
Tuesday May 9th, 2000 3:57:59 PM

The priest runs up to the rest of the group and silently says a prayer again to the priest of Domi. He looks to the others and grabs up the man's weapon, "I am sure he was a friend of yours but his church will surely be in need of this." At the sound of the bells he turns and makes for the beach post haste, "Hurry before we have another battle on our hands." He thinks to himself, 'not that I wouldn't enjoy that.'

Arrisa
Tuesday May 9th, 2000 9:55:59 PM

Arrisa picks up the ring and places it in her belt pouch. "I found it, now let's just get running before more of them arrive!"

Rond
Tuesday May 9th, 2000 11:12:59 PM

"We should take care of Branze's body also. I can carry him for as long as I can, if no one else will. I do not know how long this potion will last." If no one else volunteers, or it is too much of a struggle for someone else, Rond will then pick up Branze's body.

Sedar
Wednesday May 10th, 2000 3:11:59 AM

Hearing the bells ringing. The mage shoves harder for fear of another battle coming. "Must outrun whatever that means."

K'isst
Wednesday May 10th, 2000 3:37:59 AM

(Sorry, I thought we'd already found Branze's body.) K'isst follows at the rear thinking that is where the logical attack should come from if one comes. "Yes, hurry. Someone help with the head to move it faster. I'll protect our backside." If Bill comes around, K'isst helps him to his feet and tells him, "Run!" If not, she hoists him on her shoulders and carries him trotting forward, but looking backwards most of the time. She constantly encourages more speed from the group. "Keep it up guys. Not much farther. Stay together! Good!"

As you all get organized and try different things with your companions' bodies, you find that while Branze will drape, Borbo just isn't long enough to drape easily. Finally you all get moving down the path and as you do you hear the unmistakable sounds of an army behind you. The path is the same a before and soon you are half way to the beach. you hear all kinds of noises in the forest surrounding you and even a blood curling scream is heard now and again. K'isst, bringing up the rear hears but has yet to clearly see anything following you all. Just quick glimpses of movement and drab colors. She knows they are there because every now and then an arrow comes whizzing out of the trees and down the path. As you see the opening in the trees that signifies the beach you also see something hanging down from a tree in the middle of the path. At the same time you notice this 6 arrows come flying out of the woods on either side of you. Hitting Ahkum for 3pts, Draax for 5 pts, Arien for 4 pts, Sedar for 2 pts and K'isst for 6 pts.

K'isst
Thursday May 11th, 2000 2:48:59 AM

Running and carrying the nondrapable Bill like a baby in her arms, she shouts, "Run! Faster! Ouch! Run! Faster!" Then looking down she tries to slap Bill's face to awaken him now that he's been healed some. "Wake up Bill! We're gonna need you! Wake up!" Then softer, "Wake up you cute little....please wake up?"

Bill Troublefinder
Thursday May 11th, 2000 5:54:59 AM

"No, Mama, I didn't steal the brownies this time!" Bill insists. He holds his hand to his stinging cheek. "Mama, you never hit me before!" He opens his eyes, and is surprised to see that Mama looks remarkably like ... "Ma ... uh, K'isst. You okay? I - what?" He will move under his own locomotion if his friend sets him down.

Draax
Thursday May 11th, 2000 6:26:59 AM

Draax grunts in pain as he takes the arrow in he side. He waves the other on toward the beach. "If we can make it to the water we may have a chance." He puts a dagger in each hand and hurries down the path to get a look at whatever is hanging in the middle of the path.

Rond
Thursday May 11th, 2000 6:50:59 AM

Figuring on what is coming, Rond quaffs the potion Bill gave him. Then begins to push the head and the bodies with all his worth.

Ahkum
Thursday May 11th, 2000 7:33:59 AM

The mage gets cut into by the piercing arrow and runs faster and harder his eyes stinging with wetness from the sudden pain. He bowls down the path as quickly as possible hoping to see the beach again soon.

Arien
Thursday May 11th, 2000 10:02:59 AM

Arien hisses and in pain and breaks the end of the arrow off. He then grabs his bow, knocks an arrow and retreats backwards with the group but looking to see of he can return the favor.

DM Kent

As you all crest the ridge to the beach and come up on the hanging object you had realized that it was a body. Now as you are upon it, you see that it is none other than the missing Galahad, very dead and covered with little crabs. Arien and Arrisa scan the forest for possible targets and are rewarded with the sight of definite movement but who knows what is making it. Both may fire arrows at -2 if they would like. As you reach Galahad, you are at the top of a small rise with sandy beach in front of you and gods know what, behind you. A few moments later you see the first of the enemy come around the corner and start up the last slope. They are roughly 110 ft away and there are 6 in this wave. 3 have barbed nets and are starting to whirl them around and 3 have lowered their tridents and are charging up hill.

Bill Troublefinder  d20=19 d6=3
Friday May 12th, 2000 4:47:59 AM

Bill throws his sword in an attempt to slice through the rope or vines or whatever is holding Galahad's body up in the air (called edge slice shot, 19+1-4=16 to hit [AC 2], 3+1=4 hp damage to rope. Cut?). Bill says, "Somebody put him on the head, and let's go!" He picks up and sheathes his sword, and loads his speargun as he runs to the water's edge, planning to enter to the left by a few dozen feet of where the path would naturally take him.

Arrisa
Friday May 12th, 2000 8:06:59 AM

Having no missile weapons, Arrisa continues to run towards the beach. She decides to weave slightly making it more difficult for anyone with missile weapons to target her (or so goes the theory....)

Rond
Friday May 12th, 2000 9:21:59 AM

"K'isst, takeover here at the head, I can attempt to hold them back some, since I have a bow." If K'isst takes over on the head, Rond will turn and fire two arrows at the group, missing greatly with the first shot, and hitting AC3 for 3 points of damage for the 2nd shot.

Ahkum
Friday May 12th, 2000 4:28:59 PM

The mage comes to a halt and hunches over pulling the heavy arrow out of his body with a growl. "Wardd be with us," he says he turns and moves up next to Rond who is starting to fire his bow. He stands waiting until range is made for his spell and spreads his palm, "Iszel!" [cast magic missile on one of the Sahuagin for five pts.]

Arien  d20=13 d20=3 d6=3
Saturday May 13th, 2000 1:56:59 AM

Not wanting to waste arrows Arien doesn't fire on the movement in the forest and instead fires at one of the Sahuagin. The first arrow strikes for 3 points while the other imbeds itself in a branch.

Draax
Saturday May 13th, 2000 10:26:59 PM

If Galahad's body is cut down Draax will attempt to put it on the head while making sure the head keeps moving rapidly toward the water.

K'isst
Sunday May 14th, 2000 9:40:59 PM

Nodding to Rond, he keeps running. As she catches up with the head, she yells, "Switch!" Then she pushes the head for all she's worth hoping that going down the hill toward the beach will add to the head's speed. "Run! Run!!!"

Sedar
Monday May 15th, 2000 5:52:59 AM

Welcoming the help with the pushing of the head, he makes room for K'isst.

DM Kent (Flight continued)
Monday May 15th, 2000 3:24:59 PM

As Rond and K'isst switch off, K'isst realizes two things. First while the slope does indeed go downward to the beach, there is all that soft white stuff, called sand, that is drastically reducing the speed and efficiency of head pushing. for some reason the head is not as buoyant over sand as it was over the regular turf/ rock / ground and in the water. Rond's and Arien's arrows find targets, some even the ones they were aiming at, but they sahuagin keep on coming charging up the hill. they are currently 60 ft away.

Arien  d20=18 d20=14 d6=4 d6=6
Tuesday May 16th, 2000 12:42:59 AM

Arien pauses a moment to let another pair of arrows fly at the Sea Devil he already hit a smiles in satisfaction when they both hit for a total of 10 pts. Then turns and continues down the shore. As he moves a thought occurs to him and he shouts to the others, "Hey wait! We should fight these guys on land! If we fight them under water we give them the advantage!"

K'isst  d20=2
Tuesday May 16th, 2000 5:09:59 AM

K'isst oblivious to everything except her efforts, pushes the head attempting to go even faster (voluntary strength check of 2). "Push! Faster! Push!" she intones almost as if in a rhythm.

Tuesday May 16th, 2000 6:02:59 AM

Bill looks at the water to make sure he can see the bottom, and takes a few steps before diving in, speargun at the ready. He swims forward, on the lookout for any hazards or opponents in the watery path ahead [Int check for observation, made by 1]. -- And after he submerges and adjusts again to breathing water, Bill prays, "Teresalia, if you and your sisters will help us escape with The Head and our fallen friends, I shall write you three a poem - a song!"

Draax
Tuesday May 16th, 2000 3:32:59 PM

Draax goes over and helps push the head toward the water.

Rond  d20=6 d20=16 d8=6
Tuesday May 16th, 2000 3:37:59 PM

Rond lets fly with two more arrows. Firing his arrows at the lead person, he's looking at making him stumble and fall, in order to try to create a snarl of tripping bodies (called shots for the thigh, both shots). Distracted somewhat by the call to heave ho, the first arrow goes wide. The second arrow hits (ac2) for 8 points of damage.

Arrisa and Bill make it to waters edge and Bill heads on in, on point. Draax and Sedar heave to, with K'isst, and together they get the head moving toward the water. Ahkum decides that the sahuagin have gotten close enough, and lets loose with his spell at the same time as Arien and Rond fire their arrows. Rond and Ahkum hit the lead Sahuagin and he falls, and causes 2 of the closest, one of which is hit by Arien's arrows, five sea devils to fall as well. As they struggle to rise, the other three rush you. One stopping a little bit away to let his net fly, which sails right over Arien's head and gets tangled in a tree. The other two charge with their tridents and miss Rond and Ahkum. The lead Sahuagin and another are extremely slow getting up and are trailing the third.

Tuesday May 16th, 2000 7:51:59 PM

Pushing even harder, puffing like she's lifting weights, K'isst, who feels she's been straining to push this thing for an eternity, yells at Ahkum. "Ahkum, how many of the Sahuagin are there?"

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday May 17th, 2000 5:04:59 AM

Underwater, Bill looks to see if there are any rocks, sunken logs, plants, or whatever that he might fashion into offensive / defensive objects. If he finds a decent-sized boulder to hide behind, he will set up to see if he can set up to fire on anyone left pursuing the party. The Windhorn Hamlet native keeps his eyes and ears open for threats from the sea as well as from the shore. Along with the already loaded speargun, he has at hand another speargun arrow ready for loading. "The valiant team pushed cross the beach / They knew the Head must quickly reach / T'ward Atomos the water loomed / Beckoned all and called to each / 'Come set free the giant entombed'." Bill says, bubbles rising, "So, Teresalia, Donyra, Mittiri, help us so I can finish this poem! Let's see, 'Sahuagin chased down the team, ...'"

Arrisa
Wednesday May 17th, 2000 1:30:59 PM

Arrisa run's to the shore and then checks behind her. Realizing fighting the Sea Devils on land would give them the advantage....she pauses. But, she then remembers the Halfling is on his own down there. Arrisa then runs into the water and switches to breathing the water. She then looks around for Bill and heads towards him...

Rond  d20=2
Wednesday May 17th, 2000 5:38:59 PM

"Once you get underwater, see if our allies can help move the head, since the water is their domain also." Rond drops his bow, pulls out his sword. Rond continues to focus on hitting legs (called shot), and attempts a sweeping shot to get both of the Sahuagin who are within reach. Missing badly, Rond mumbles to himself, "that didn't help much". (+4 due to strength and weapon, -4 for called shot, so it's even).

K'isst, Draax and Sedar have arrived with the head at the waters edge. Bill and Arrisa are surveying the underwater scenery and see very little. Ahkum, and Rond miss their targets. And Arien feathers the net thrower. Rond's and Ahkum's Opponents both manage to get a good poke in with their tridents. (Rond 5 points, Ahkum 6). The original net thrower is busy trying to remove arrows. The leader stops and tosses his barbed net and succeeds in getting Arien all wrapped up.(Arien takes 4points from barbs). The badly limping sea devil tries casting his net and collapses as he does. The last charging sea devil crests the hill and runs right by Arien as he is entangled in the net.

Draax
Friday May 19th, 2000 8:51:59 PM

I suggest we turn and fight now." K'isst grabs a nearby Sahuagin net from the sands and throws it on her opponent rolling a 16 hitting AC4 with her non-proficiency penalty. Assuming she hits, she screams, "Someone secure this net and tie it up, I'm moving on." She moves to close with the next Sahuagin. (map please?)

Netted, stabbed, and speared the beached Sahuagin lays there bleeding but not dead as first K'isst and Bill pass him by. Rond finds his sword and with amazing timing bends down to retrieve it just as a trident is jabbed at his neck and head. Draax feints to the right just as the seadevil jabs that way and Draax is rewarded with three holes in his left thigh for 5 points. The Seadevil facing Arien steps on a sharp seashell and reaching down to free it from his foot misses his jab at Arien. K'isst arrives on the scene to aid Ahkum just a second too late as Ahkum is struck solidly in the abdomen with a trident for 7 points. As Arrisa gets out of the water and heads up the beach, she sees a disturbance in the sand near the netted Sahuagin.

As she is informed of the movement near the netted Sahuagin K'isst screams, "Probably another giant crab! Get away from it!"

Bill heeds the warnings concerning the movement in the sand, and leaps and bounds out of the way, leaving behind the netted sea devil and what he thinks is an emerging crab [dex check by 7]. He joins in with K'isst and Ahkum against the trident-wielding sahuagin. His first dart misses. Dart #2 hits AC 4 for 1 hp, #3 for 3 hp, and #4 for 3 hp, for a total of 7 hp. "I don't know your name, but you bandage yourself up while you can," he suggests to Ahkum. He glances over toward the net and the moving sand, shoots a fraction of a second look at the Sentinel Head, and looks around to see where he can best help out. "For Windhorn!" he shouts. "For Windhorn and home!"

Just as Bill cuts the seadevil free the sand erupts all around. Bill just barely manages to avoid being buried or nipped (needed a 70 or better). The Seadevil however being badly wounded, tangled in a net and just plain hysterical does not fare so well as four claws, each about half the size of Bill, reach up and literally tear the sahuagin in to pieces. Bill kind of shaken up by what almost just happened to him manages to get to the shore as K'isst asks him to scout ahead for them. As he disappears and the others start getting their underwater gear ready Rond looks at the two newcomers and has a disturbing thought about how they are going to breathe underwater on the return trip.

Remembering the newcomer (made Int check) Draax retrieves the ring (or whatever he used) from Galahad's body and hands it to one of the new coming with the instructions on how to work it. He says to the group. "Let the other one use Branze's cloak so that they can breathe underwater."

Bill starts to swim ahead back toward the island of the crabmen. A thought occurs to him. He pulls out his rope. As the head comes into the water, the bodies of Galahad and Branze will likely float free of the head. the group gets under way and Bill manages to get the bodies tied to the head. As Ahkum put the cloak on you all notice that there are several holes in it and the tail has been torn off. It does seem to form itself and Ahkum into the manta ray shape minus the tail and seems to be allowing him to breathe. Arrisa's ring also seems to be working although Draax seems to recall that Galahad's ring was gold and not silver.

Bill encourages the group to move with deliberate haste to the cave of the crabmen, some five miles away, though he knows that all will be feeling tired. He puts his hand on his chest where the ring came out, feeling the dimple at the exit point. For the first time, he wonders what happened to what he thinks of as the Water Ring. As they travel along, he asks K'isst, "Who has the Ring?" He will repeat himself until he is sure she understands. If she doesn't know, he will ask around.

K'isst stops the head and almost causes Draax to collide nose first with said head, Bill pears at Arrisa's hand, Arien peers through the water to see if they are alone and everybody is trying to talk under water and getting nowhere fast. Through sign language and extremely ridiculous mouthing of words the talkers manage to look like a bunch of groupers and to get across the message that they want to know if Arrisa has the ring. Arrisa at first misunderstands and mouths the words thank you to Bill for the ring on her finger that is allowing her to breathe underwater. After an alarmed look or two Arrisa finally nods and points to her belt pouch. Bill peering at the ring on Arrisa's finger notices several things. First the ring is silver unlike the ring worn by Galahad. Second the band is broader than the ring worn by Galahad. And finally that this ring doesn't have the dolphin markings on it like Galahad's did.

Arrisa
Thursday June 1st, 2000 10:20:59 PM

Bill Troublefinder
Friday June 2nd, 2000 4:49:59 AM

Bill pantomimes to Arrisa that he wants to see both rings at the same time. Does the one on her finger look like the one he swallowed, or the one in her pouch? If he realizes she is wearing the Water Ring, he will raise an eyebrow, but not say anything about it otherwise. He asks her to hold the non-worn ring up (whether Galahad's or the Water Ring), and loops a short piece of rope through it, knots it, makes another loop, just big enough to slip over a wrist, and hands it back to her for her to put it in her pouch. "Easier not to lose," he enunciates slowly and distinctly. "But in your pouch is fine." He indicates she might want to tuck her pouch under her skirt, or pants, or blouse, or something. Less likely to be lost that way.

Bill, again looking at the ring, decides that it is hard to tell if it is the ring that exited from his body as he never cleaned it off before swallowing it and never got a clear look at it while it was in Glowboy's claws. It does however seem to be made of the same shiny gold stuff and be the same exact width of band. It is however the size that would fit on a finger and not as big around as before. You know it does not look like the ring that Galahad was wearing when you all started out.

[After all, he was intimately, albeit only briefly, involved with the Water Ring :)] If so, he'll continue on with the group. If not, he reaches into his pants, retrieves the hammer retrieved from the statue, and hands it to Rond. "Take this to Atomos." It being underwater, he repeats himself a few times to make sure he is understood. "I go for the Water Ring," Bill tells K'isst through voice and pantomime. "You go on. Donyra bless you. Don't stop me." And he will retrace steps, hunting for the ring. As he searches, he will be on the lookout for anyone coming from the island. When he eventually does put his head above water, it will be a ways away from where the party entered the water, and with great caution.

After the surprise of seeing what happened to Bill, Arrisa feeling a constriction on her finger glances down at the ring and notices that the ring is now silver again. [OOC: Since Bill thinks Arrisa has the Water Ring, he does not part with the hammer, nor tell K'isst he is leaving. The group slowly makes their way towards the crabmen's island lair, encountering nothing but the occasional fish. In fact there seems to be very little life in the area which you are passing through. After about four miles of travel the water takes on a very murky look and has a very metallic and tangy taste. There are pieces of things floating around in the water, which you eventually realize are pieces of body parts. Some of them are chopped up, some are charred and several pieces look as if the flesh has melted right off of the bone. There is also an increase in critter activity. However the majority of the critters that you see are scavengers, trash eaters and quite a few sharks.

The metallic taste in the water, seems to be from the unbelievable amounts of blood in the water. The body parts while all humanoid, are not all human. As the group moves on they also come across some large hacked up shark carcasses and up ahead can only be the remains of a young dragon. The dragon's wings are torn to ribbons and it is covered with many wounds, though none of them look fatal. As you get closer to the Crabman's lair there are more and more dead bodies of all kinds. Up ahead you see the glow of some sort of light.

Bill Troublefinder

He wants to remember them in the poem he promised the Sisters. And he wonders what effect, if any, being bathed in this mixed blood will have upon him and his friends, whose faces he scans to gauge their reactions, exchanging grimaces and sad countenance. And will it affect the Sentinel Head? The troubled little Troublefinder nevertheless moves resolutely onward toward the light. As Bill and Ahkum approach the dragon, it appears as if the dragon's eyes are following their movement, as they get within a few feet of it it is very obvious that the dragon's eyes are following them (Bill and Ahkum roll surprise at -2). Just as they notice this the eyes shoot out of the dragons head straight at the two inquisitive adventurers are attacked by two moray eels that have taken up residence in the dead dragon's skull. Ahkum's larger manta ray shape enables the moray eel to take a good sized bite out of him with those razor sharp teeth causing 4 points of damage, while the eel attacking Bill narrowly misses. The others take note that while there are quite a few shark bite looking wounds, there are also many weapon wounds visible as well and some that look like they were probably made by the dragon as well. As you approach the crabmen's lair you see the source of light there are five glowing, basketball-sized pearls place around the cave's entry and around each pearl are an assortment of aquatic elves and crabmen all armed to the teeth and many of them wounded. As they sight you, they form up in defensive ranks and you see at least 30 loaded spearguns pointing your way. You all are currently 60 ft away.

Having been disturbed and attacked the eels quickly swim off vanishing among all the debris. The dragon looks like it might have been a dark green or possibly black, though its hard to say in the light and to the fact that the dragon looks like it has been dead for at least a month. The group of elves and crabmen have made no further move toward you other than to get into a defensive formation and watch.

K'isst turns her weapon forked side down in a nonoffensive gesture and bows again before beginning to approach the group. She tries to determine the expressions on their face and why they might have reason to be aggressive just in case that they are. Then she realizes that if they are, the group is toast and so she must be sure that doesn't happen. "Hail! We have suffered much. Two of our number hath died. We grieve. However, we have the head and thus hurry to the shore to prevent further dragon incursions. We thank thee for your advice, friendship, and passage through your lands. We are at your service. How may we do that?"

Is the battle quite over?" Bill wishes he had one of those Airy Water scrolls so they could talk better. He sheaths his sword. "How is Atomos?" Bill is also puzzled as to why the dragon would have been dead for a month or so. He hadn't noticed it on the way in, maybe half a day ago as far as he knows. [Again, from the adventurers' perspective, how long since we left the crabmen? In this format, time markers seem scarce.]

The group approaches the undersea coalition and Bill starts talking, at least you see his lips moving and bubbles come out, but you don't hear much of anything but slurred glubs. The crabmen look both excited and scared nervous at your presence, while the elves just look nervous and perhaps a bit puzzled. Many of the crabmen and seaelves sport both freshly bandaged wounds and scars from recently healed wounds. As Bill continues to try to speak a very old robed elf steps through the crowd, looks at you all and then nods. Waving you forward, he indicates that you should enter the cavern systems. The elf/crab coalition form up ranks around you and start ushering you inside.

Bill is happy once again to be breathing air. He is concerned for Ahkum, but again doesn't know what he can do, being out of healing potions, to help their new-come ally. He feels somewhat responsible for his wound, since Ahkum followed him close to the dragon corpse. But, after a glance of sympathy in the direction of the wounded companion, he calls to mind ... he calls ... to ... he ... for a moment a vision of his family gathered around a birthday feast takes his attention. Bill stands with eyes closed. In a fine tenor voice, he sings out with a halfling tune, his body waving from side to side, "This is your special day / not just an average day / day of fun and treats / day of gifts and sweets / for we all celebrate / sing now, and celebrate / your -- great -- day-ay-ay!" He opens his heavy, sleepy eyes, a dreamy smile on his face. Bill expects to see cousin-like faces before him. Auntish and uncle-ish. The decidedly un-cousin-like faces shock him, and he sits down hard, startled.

Bill Troublefinder

As his bum meets something hard, it does not happen to be the ground. Rather, it is lumpy, and uncomfortable. Bill squirms off the point of what will surely turn into a new bruise. Chagrined at what he now realizes was not a family birthday party. His handsome hobbit face turns bright pink. "S-S-sorry. Um, A dream." Trying to overcome his embarrassment, Bill loosens his belt, and reaches into the back of his pants. Digging down, he finally grasps the hammer which has slid to a point just above his knees. He pulls it upwards. But just as the handle crests the outside of his pants, he hesitates. He looks around at what are sure to be stares of consternation, or bewilderment, perhaps here and there incipient anger. He swallows, recognizing this is yet a fresh source of questionable behavior. Bill decides the best course at this point is to make bold. Little Mr. Troublefinder comes to his feet, and raises the hammer high above his head. His left hand, meanwhile, has gathered his pants top, to ensure he does not expose more than any might desire. "Take us to ATOMOS! THE TIME HAS COME!"

Seeing Ahkum slump to the floor, The crabChief waves a claw and another crabman all but materializes at Ahkum's side with some kind of ointment and bandages. (six points back) "What do you mean what has happened in the day and a half you have been gone?" "Much has occurred in the SIX WEEKS that you have been gone." That is why we feared you had not been successful. Along with the troubles the dragons have been causing all of us; The sea devils, and their allies have been making live in the sea more than a bit difficult. And it seems as though they are more organized and focussed than ever before." "As for your kin folk, water sister, they have been here and there, for they have been helping with things ashore as well as here." Glaring for a moment at Bill as he collapses and then plays with his pants, the chief smiles when he sees the hammer and with a cheerier look than you have seen on anyone since arriving says, "Yes let us go visit your friend." The chief signals and seven of his men follow you to Atomos' cavern.

Bill Troublefinder
Monday June 19th, 2000 8:43:59 PM

Bill thinks the chief of the crabmen must be confused about the passage of time. But, what about the dragon? Did Sekola have something to do with this? As the group ascends to the cavern of Atomos, Bill recalls when he tried to teleport to Atomos with the hammer, and that evil shark mind tried to probe his mind ... and seemed to pull him back away from Atomos himself. Was there a time robbing then? He resolves to puzzle this out, and make more inquiries when he has ... more time? / Then, remembering the voice that sent them on their way to Sekola's Temple, Bill says, "His chest! We have to reach his chest! And chip his chest with the hammer! Rond, K'isst, you're both strong. K'isst, can you get on Rond's shoulders, and take the hammer, and tap Atomos' chest? If you can't reach, maybe -- hey," he says to the crabmen's chief, grateful for K'isst's translation stone, "Can you make people stairs next to Atomos?" He then describes how to form a pyramid formation, with five people at the base on hands and knees, four above them resting on the five below, then three, and two, on up to one at the top. "Then one of us can climb up with the hammer, and together, we can free Atomos. Crabmen and humans and elves and half-elves and troglodytes and halflings all together!" Bill can hardly wait to watch the giant's 'withered soul unbind.'

As your last strikes go home, the crabmen also get a last few shots in and S2 and S3 collapse to the floors in lifeless bloody puddles. Above you all Atomos is one huge mass of swirling shifting iridescent color that almost suddenly becomes quiescent and solid. There is now quite a wind growing in the cavern and are those small flashes of lightning near the ceiling? Suddenly with a crack of thunder, which leaves your ears ringing, there in front of you, stands a 20 ft tall being whose skin tone seems to change from a shimmering green to an iridescent purple, with dark green hair and piercing emerald green eyes as big as large lime. Do you recognize it?" The halfling then says cheerily, "You were in our dreams. And the shark one, too. I'm Bill!"

K'isst
Monday June 26th, 2000 1:32:59 AM

K'isst's eyes are trained on the giant. "Sekola's Temple has crumbled. There are yet Sahuagin about." Her hand motions in the direction of the two downed sea devils.

Ahkum
Monday June 26th, 2000 5:17:59 AM

The priest looks up in awe and his mouth drops in surprise of the transformation before him. A quick diligent prayer to all his patron deities. He kneels before Atomos for a few brief moments and stands watches his comrades for actions.

Draax
Monday June 26th, 2000 6:46:59 AM

Draax looks up at Atomos and although Draax had an idea of what was going to happen, he still stands looking at Atomos in awe. Listening to the other speak he gets some of his composure back. "Um, ah yes, you are welcome, but we have to go we still have to get the head back to the town"

Arien
Monday June 26th, 2000 7:44:59 AM

Bill Troublefinder
Tuesday June 27th, 2000 12:34:59 AM

Irrepressible Bill adds the question, "Do you feel very stiff, Lord Atomos?" A look of genuine concern is on his face.

DM Kent (rise and shine)
Tuesday June 27th, 2000 3:21:59 AM

"Hush! I have a lot to tell you and little time to do it in. Yes little Troubleshooter, I know and remember Judith well and hold her in high regard. If you see her again tell her that I still recall the Green Moss Isle. Now then, I fear you still have great trials ahead of you. Before you go make your way under this dais. You may do what you like with what you find there. Then quickly make your way back to the Hamlet. Time is drawing very short for what must be done. Remember Good will triumph in the end as long as the choices you make are the correct ones." Almost as an after thought after K'isst mentions Sekola, Atomos looks up a look of pure hatred glazes over his eyes and almost as if he forgot you were there he softly speaks to himself. "Yes old enemy I come to visit soon. But first I will finish what these hardies have started." And with a clap of thunder that rings in your ears he vanishes.

Sedar the Seeker

Bill Troublefinder
Tuesday June 27th, 2000 4:36:59 AM

Bill is amazed to find that the mighty Atomos knows his family name. He fixes in his mind to mention the 'Green Moss Isle' to 'Judith' when next he sees her. He lets out an involuntary little moan when great trials are mentioned, not even aware he is making a sound. But Atomos' confidence that Good will triumph reinvigorates and encourages him. But when the purple-green huge man disappears, he is disconcerted. "But, I wanted to ask him about the ring!" he notes aloud. Intrigued as to what may lie beneath the dais, he nevertheless realizes there is one priority before checking that out. Bill walks up to the Chief of the crabmen, and holds out his hand ... for a moment, then, thinking he doesn't want his hand pinched, switches to a courtly bow. "Well done!" As he rises he says, "I was so glad to see that fellow who was poking me turned to a jellyfish. Thank you!" He opens a pouch, and withdraws one of the few red stones he has left. "This is a memento from the Island of the Old Temple. It comes from the enchanted pathway. It is a small thing, but for you saving, yes, perhaps saving my life, I want you to have this. Can I do anything for you?" he asks the Chief.

Draax
Tuesday June 27th, 2000 6:02:59 AM

Wondering what could be under the dias, Draax joins the others as they search for the entrance.

[Dais, not dias. Get that noun right! :)]

K'isst
Tuesday June 27th, 2000 9:48:59 PM

K'isst, too, marvels at the rejuvenation of Atomos. Upon his sudden departure, she walks over, picks up the conch, and checks to see if it is open or closed, or an empty shell. She asks the chief, "How long will it stay changed? Will it turn back into a sahuagin?"

Arrisa
Tuesday June 27th, 2000 11:35:59 PM

Arrisa wanders over to the Dais and begins to check around it. Her quarterstaff is still in hand and she watches carefully for more enemies

DM Kent ( dais dias dais dias dais)
Wednesday June 28th, 2000 6:54:59 AM

The chief looks at K'isst for a moment and answers, "Well as far as they will be concerned it will be permanent for they will die thus. Under normal circumstances they would remain thus for several weeks." Those perusing the dais quickly find a latch that is opposite some hidden hinges.

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday June 28th, 2000 8:08:59 PM

As the chief didn't seem to want to ask for anything at the moment, Bill politely nods his thanks again, then joins his friends to find out what might be under the platform that Atomos once stood upon.

K'isst (by Jerry--I'm back)
Wednesday June 28th, 2000 8:24:59 PM

K'isst nods at the chieftain and then formally bows to him. She turns then and proceeds to the dias to help her friends. "Are you ok now Ahkum?"

Draax
Thursday June 29th, 2000 7:31:59 AM

Draax will pull/turn the latch, whatever it takes to open it.
