Next Morning(DM Sam) Thursday July 13th, 2000 5:08:14 AM
after about an hour after dawn, Callistan appears in the stables. "Hello friends. I didnt have a chance to say it, but thank you for the help last night. I know you didnt have to do it, but i really appreciate your efforts." then he looks around a bit. "Your welcome to stay in town as long as you want, just let me know when your ready to leave, and ill outfit you with any supplies you need."
Figment Thursday July 13th, 2000 2:34:04 PM
The mage bows to Calistan "Thank you for your hospitality. I think we will leave out as soon as we can. Today if possible. Would you be willing to have your healers take care of the rest of our wounds? It would be most helpful.".
Shadrach d8=4 d8=7 Thursday July 13th, 2000 2:34:05 PM
Shad rolled over and got up muzzily. Listening to the conversation, he yawned and went over to Olana. He prayed softly over her, having visible effect on her wounds. He planted his fists on his hips. "Who's still wounded? Where's that height challenged priest of Domi?"
Milo Thursday July 13th, 2000 3:04:14 PM
Looking to Callistan... "Thank you kind sir..." glancing sideways at the impatient Figment, "I've never been to an elven town before... and wouldn't mind seeing the sights." Milo remains seated, looking pleased with himself...
Ingrge Thursday July 13th, 2000 3:06:04 PM
Pulling aside Callistan at some point, Ingrge quietly asks him if there is any news from the Tree of Parting and the surrounding area.
Flueterflam Thursday July 13th, 2000 6:02:48 PM
As Callistan speaks, the bard cracks one open. After Callistan finishes, Fluet rolls over, back to sleep.
Next Morning(DM Sam) Friday July 14th, 2000 12:22:57 AM
Callistan looks over at Figment "We only have one priest here, and shes curretly overseeing the funerals of the guards that were slained last night, so shes not avaliable. But if you wish, you can wait till tommorw and she can see to you wounds." then he turns to Ingrge "No word yet."
Olana Friday July 14th, 2000 12:22:58 AM
"Thank you, Shad," whispers Olana with an appreciative smile. She looks a little relieved at K'Nara's suggestion. That was one heck of a tussle. Although the plague continues to worry her.
Figment Friday July 14th, 2000 2:06:30 PM
"I'm still hurt, Shad. I am able to travel now, but I think it would be best if we are at full strength before we go. And Milo, I would like nothing more than to stay and explore a new city but if we do we lose another day. And as a result, many people will die who otherwise wouldn't have. We should not tarry long here - but returning to here would certainly be fun once the plague is dealt with."
Shadrach Friday July 14th, 2000 2:06:31 PM
"Calistan said that the elves are taking samples of the tea and spreading out with it. Come on, I need some exercise before getting more rest and healing again. We can probably be healed up tomorrow." Shad left his armor behind to take a stroll around the trees.
K'nara Saturday July 15th, 2000 4:12:27 PM
"I'm heading over to the fletcher's to see about arrow supplies and stuff..." K'nara announced, "Anyone else want to come along--I'm going to see what there may be in the way of spirits available, too." The female fighter grins in anticipation, having heard that some of the distilled substances in this region of the Kingdom were really very good.
Ingrge Sunday July 16th, 2000 9:06:02 PM
Turning to K'narra, Hmm I could use a bit of extra fletching myself and Domi knows I can use a stiff drink or two.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Monday July 17th, 2000 10:29:24 AM
This day passes, and the group has another night to recover. During this time, the elves in the village have been busy - scurrying back and forth between the more remote places, delivering badly need batches of tea. In the morning, Calistan greets them once more. Two female elves are stood beside him - one of them considerably ancient. "We have done all we can here," Calistan says. "All that remains is for the rest of the tea to be delivered to Titania. It's not far - and I will send you a small escort, to ensure your safety. Before you go - Linia here," he points to the elder of the two elven women, "can do her best to heal you. Please tell her who needs what." With a final nod, he wanders off, presumably to see to the escort.
Figment Monday July 17th, 2000 2:15:52 PM
The mage bows to the ancient woman and shows her the reaminder of his wounds. After he is healed he goes to the magic shop or guild to look at spell components until it is time to leave.
Shadrach d8=8 Monday July 17th, 2000 2:15:53 PM
Over the course of the day, Shad felt his confidence in his own expertise grow (rolling new hit dice-can't find irony.com!).
Figment Monday July 17th, 2000 5:43:29 PM
Also on this day, as he speaks with the ancient clearic, the mage asks if they have a garden for trees. He explains the nature of the fruit he received from the high druid and offers her half the seeds. With her blessing (if she gives it) he goes to the place she specifies and plants half the seeds - and watches.
Milo Monday July 17th, 2000 6:17:36 PM
Wide brimmed straw hat tipped back on his head, Milo disappears after the priestesses arrive, and spends his day darting through the trees and exploring the elven community on his own. He is friendly and stops to chat with any elves he meets, and eventually makes his way back to the group in the late afternoon.
Olana Monday July 17th, 2000 8:43:06 PM
After seeing the ancient cleric (and there wasn't much to be done after Shad had patched her up) Olana makes her way to the wagons, to get them ready for leaving.
Ingrge Monday July 17th, 2000 11:10:40 PM
Ingrge spends his day picking up spell components and seeing if Callistan can get him into a spell library where he might find some spells he can add to his repetoire.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Tuesday July 18th, 2000 12:49:17 PM
As a team, the younger elf woman cleans and binds, and the ancient one whispers healing over those injured, and pretty soon everyone is feeling a whole lot better. At Figment's offer of the seeds - he is virtually pulled along to a small garden and thanked profusely. Milo discovers himself to be somewhat of a hero as he mingles in the village, and some of the younger elves offer him presents of dried fruit and nuts. The local magic men don't have much to offer in the way of spells and componants (times are hard etc etc), telling those who ask that Titania has better resources. "More of our kind there.." croaked one of them, as he stirred something dubious in a pot. They do however offer two small bags of very fine sand and some raven feathers as a gift. Down by the horses and wagons the escort arrives. They looked decidedly..... old. Although the look in their eyes suggest they've plenty of fight left in them.
Olana Tuesday July 18th, 2000 1:36:04 PM
As soon as she's done, Olana runs around telling the others - "The wagons are ready!"
Figment Tuesday July 18th, 2000 3:57:13 PM
The mage plants his seeds, wishs the curators well, and returns to the wagons. He raises his eyebrow at the sight of the older elven contingent but only smiles and bows. "Thank you for accompanying us to Titania.". As the horseman prepares his mount, Jux, he is clearly going over something in his head. As if a light bulb has gone off and he is chasing an idea of some kind. He seems to zone out and not really notice any other preparations - very unlike him not to be thorough...
Milo Tuesday July 18th, 2000 5:41:08 PM
Milo is delighted to talk with the young elves, and accepts their gifts graciously, placing each carefully in his pockets for later consumption... As Olana informs him it is time to go, he excuses himself from his new friends and makes his way back to the carts. He dons his adventuring gear and seats himself in the driver seat, waiting patiently, and quietly, him broad rimmed straw hat perched back on his head, and a smile across his face.
Ingrge Tuesday July 18th, 2000 6:24:41 PM
Hearing Olanna's pronouncement, Ingrge gets his gear, loads his pack and other gear in the wagon. Mounting Moon Shadow, He soon takes his place near the front of the group as outrider.
Shadrach Tuesday July 18th, 2000 8:42:52 PM
Shad made a game out of it, wandering around the elven tree village, seeing how many he could spot. In his daily prayers, he was surprised to find Donyra offering more power to him. Later, when he joined Milo up on the wagon, he went through his usual routine of setting his trident behind him in easy reach as well as his bow. Looking at the 'oldster' escort, Shad muttered to Milo, "Think Titania runs an old elven folks home?"
K'nara Wednesday July 19th, 2000 6:22:05 AM
Once in the trades area of the elven town, K'nara went over to the fletcher's and made sure she had a proper supply of arrows for the trip to Titania. Then she stopped in at a local mage's abode, emerging with a rather bulky package. After sampling some of the local cuisine (and the most excellent liquor that the town had to offer,) K'nara returned to where the other Talons were. "Okay, I'm all set, more or less." she announced, having taken advantage of the elderly elven healer's magic, too. "How about you guys..? Anybody have anything left to do?"
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Wednesday July 19th, 2000 11:22:10 AM
The wagons are somewhat depleted now, but there still appears to be a reasonable load to carry to Titania. Calistan bids you farewell and gives you directions. "Straight down that road," he says pointing at the wide track that curves off to the left of the one they came in on. The "oldster" elves give a nod to K'Nara then begin to move out. They split into two groups and indicate to Ingrge up at the front that they intend to flank the party. Whoever understands elvish catches a little of their banter - along the lines of "..well let the young elf pups spread out and deliver the tea.. time to put the "real" men on this job.." In moments they have disappeared into the trees. It is mid afernoon. The sun is shining down through the tree canopy in bright, slanted columns.
Figment Wednesday July 19th, 2000 12:38:46 PM
The mage mounts up and takes a position behind the wagon, enjoying the forest and daylight. Upon closer examination he still seems to be struggling with something mentally. You see him drop his reigns and make hand motions and making some kind of incantations - but nothing anybody can understand. He seems very preoccupied by whatever it is he's doing.
Olana Wednesday July 19th, 2000 12:42:27 PM
Olana nods and grins at K'Nara from on top of her wagon. "All set,I think," she says, and will move out along with the others. Glancing back once they're on the trail, she gives Figment a puzzled look. "Figment... are you alright?"
Flueterflam Wednesday July 19th, 2000 2:02:25 PM
Fluet, having slept literally for the whole day, rolls over a little and cracks his eyes open. He notices that everyone seems to be....ready to leave without him. Suddenly, he jumps up, gathers his belongings, and runs over by the wagons. "Whoa, it looks like you guys were planning on leaving me here. By the way, am I still riding with you Olana?"
Ingrge Wednesday July 19th, 2000 5:13:35 PM
Nodding to the elves as they leavce to go flanking, Ingrge reminds them that one from each flank should check in every hour to insure the safety of the group and the tea. As they vanish into the trees and he overhears their comments, he laughs and then responds, Well Old Timers don't fall asleep out there. Or these Young MEN, Dwarf, and Elves will have to come keep you old Elves from falling out of your saddles.
Shadrach Wednesday July 19th, 2000 6:43:30 PM
Humming, "Well, life on the farm is kinda laid back, ain't nothing that a country boy like me can't hack. Early to rise, early in the sack, thank goddess I'm a country boy!"
Milo Wednesday July 19th, 2000 10:05:30 PM
Looking to Shadrach, "Be serious... these elves are too experienced to snap twigs and so forth... if anybody hears them out there... its cause of the creaking in their bones." The halfing smiles, and then indicating Figment to Shadrach.. "I think our wizard is troubled by insects..." As the priest on Donyra breaks into his tune, Milo happily whistles along...
Figment Thursday July 20th, 2000 2:33:37 PM
As the party moves along the mage seems to totally disregard anything said to him, until... "That's it!". He rummages through one of his saddle bags and pulls out a spell book. After flipping to a page near the back and reading a moment, you see a look of power come into his eyes. "Yes! I have it!" he says with great satisfaction. He puts the book away and looks forward with a new found confidence. After a moment he begins to notice that everyone has been looking at him. He inquires playfully "Yes?".
Shadrach Thursday July 20th, 2000 2:33:38 PM
Shad decides to gather acorns at the next stop for the sole purpose of throwing them at Figment.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Thursday July 20th, 2000 2:33:58 PM
The day rolls on, and a pleasant afternoon begins to darken toward the evening. Then up ahead - Ingrge notices something. It looks like a lone rider, stood in the middle of the track, blocking their path. Two of members of the elven escort are approaching the rider with spears. There are words being spoken, but Ingrge isn't near enough to catch what they are yet.
Olana Thursday July 20th, 2000 2:36:58 PM
The elf - having hoisted Fluet upon to the wagon earlier - shrugs at the bard as Figment grins at them all. What was he up to, she wondered? She was in a good mood as the others sang their songs, and hummed along quietly.
Flueterflam Thursday July 20th, 2000 3:44:01 PM
"Well, it was bound to happen eventually. ::pause:: The lone rider who somehow knows about our whole situation, and either is trying to stop us, through trickery, or is dark and mysterious, but only trying to help." Fluet takes a moment to think about it. Then he turns to Olana, "Which do you think it is?"
Figment Thursday July 20th, 2000 5:54:43 PM
Taking note of the lone rider, the mage watches his/her actions carefully for their meaning (i.e hands up as if to say "I'm just passing", etc.). He also scans the forest looking for any clues to potential interlopers. "Seems like we've seen something like this recently...".
Ingrge Thursday July 20th, 2000 5:54:44 PM
Seeing the lone rider and the two scouts conversing, Ingrge signals to the others to make ready and moves a bit closer to the trio of talkers.
K'nara d20=16 Friday July 21st, 2000 5:37:29 AM
The auburn-haired human frowns and trots closer to where the elves are talking to the lone stranger in the middle of the road. "Is there something I can help with..?" she offers, her hazel eyes sharply eyeing the newcomer--searching for any obvious weapons or signs of evil about the person. (OOC: failed a voluntary perception check.)
Milo Friday July 21st, 2000 11:52:29 AM
Speaking only so Shadrach can hear him, "Bet?... five gold coins says that poor sap has, or wants nothing to do with us, and merely means to pass the road."
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Friday July 21st, 2000 12:31:41 PM
On closer inspection, the rider appears to be a female human in her middle years, dressed in plain robes, with eyes as grey as her hair, which is tied back neatly in a bun. On a chain around her neck is a single red stone - maybe a garnet, or a ruby. Above it - a small scarf is tied around her throat. Her staff is laid across her saddle. "Greetings," she says with a smile at K'Nara, her eyes then drifting toward the others - inspecting? - identifying?. "I was just asking these gentlemen here if you could spare the TINE to speak with me?" In the trees, an owl begins to hoot. It is officially twilight. The two members of the escort are giving the party that 'shall we chase her off or what?' look.
Figment d20=8 Friday July 21st, 2000 3:48:32 PM
The mage rides up to the newcomer on the hearing her hail of K'Nara. He observes the scarf and checks it to see if it is in fact a Tine scarf like Dakar's and the rest of the party (Int). If so, he looks to the elves and asks "You know these woods. Should we take time to camp now or continue on a bit longer?".
Shadrach Friday July 21st, 2000 3:48:33 PM
"Don't be silly. Everybody we meet on this road who isn't actually attacking us is a Tine or ally of 'em. She's probably come to join us. But I'll take your bet." Shad grinned.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Friday July 21st, 2000 7:00:30 PM
Olana blinks at Fluet for a moment. "A lone rider? Where?" she asks, craning her neck to see. "Oh - I see what you mean. Wonder what they want?" she adds, checking her weapons. "Get ready to grab the reins just in case."
Olana Saturday July 22nd, 2000 8:06:33 PM
((ooops - scratching out the DM thingy above))
Ingrge d20=15 Sunday July 23rd, 2000 5:36:00 PM
Fuming at the knowedge that someone is going around telling the world what they are doing and seemingly the route which they will take to do it, Ingrge resists the urge to just out right kill this newest possible weak link (made voluntary INT roll) and instead just has his dagger in his hand ready to throw if necessary.
Dakar the Painmonger Sunday July 23rd, 2000 5:49:22 PM
The dwarf looks up at the newcomer. He has spent the last few days healing up his battle wounds, but one notices that even with healing magic the scars don't fully close. He mumbled something earlier about them being marks of honor... "Don't suppose ye could be any more obvious with your intent now could ye lass? You're one of the only women I've met that doesn't dodge around the issue at hand..."
K'nara Monday July 24th, 2000 6:09:18 AM
Upon hearing the woman's words, K'nara trotted Poki up a bit closer, lifting her right hand in a circular motion, much akin to a slow greeting wave...then she quite obviously made a fist with that hand, which the fighter then drew sharply in towards herself. The stranger felt the intense hazel regard that the leader of the Emerald Talons now bombarded her with, as if awaiting the correct response to her hand signals...
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Monday July 24th, 2000 1:27:10 PM
The woman watches the hand signal, and blinks a little at K'Nara's intense glare. "Oh my.." she says, before regaining her composure. Her eyes also take in the dagger and questions of some of the others. Figment does indeed identify the scarf as the same one the party are wearing. "You do wise to be cautious," she says eventually." Please, let me introduce myself. I am Lorna, Priestess of Alemi, and I come here with a solemn and somewhat dangerous request. However -" Her eyes flick to the trees for a moment. "I would prefer to tell you more when we reach Titania. Please, permit me to ride with you? I am quite harmless I assure you," she adds. One of the ancient elves nods at Figments question. "Just off the road here should be good enough," he replies, and then gives a sharp whistle. At once the remainder of the escort appears.
Shadrach Monday July 24th, 2000 2:51:08 PM
Pricking up his ears at the back of the convoy to hear what the woman was saying, Shad nudged Milo, "She's come from the next elven town, looks like. But they knew we were headed there, why would she meet us on the road, 'stead of waiting for us at the town?"
Figment d20=14 Monday July 24th, 2000 6:25:29 PM
nods to the escort and then looks back to the lady and in an elegant fashion, the mage retorts "My dear, I doubt very seriously that you are harmless, but we would be honored to allow a priestess of Alemi to travel with us - at least I would. Please join us this evening around our fire. Perhaps we can swap stories and you can tell us more of youself. I would be very interested to know how you knew we were coming this way - a name would be greatly appreciated.". He motions for the woman to precede him to the campsite. He looks her over for a sign of Alemi. He also takes inventory of her jewel, trying to identify it as magical or ornamental in some way.
Figment Monday July 24th, 2000 6:28:00 PM
[the roll was an Int check. Made it fine]
Milo Monday July 24th, 2000 6:55:20 PM
"Bah.." Milo reaches into his pouch and carefully withdraws five gold coins, which clink as they drop into Shad's hand. Then from the side of his mouth... "It seems that a great many folk are more familiar with our comings and goings than I'm comfortable with. I remember the good ol' days when my appearing someplace was a surprise... Watch for the trap... "
Ingrge Monday July 24th, 2000 6:55:21 PM
Looking over at Milo, at his comment, and then darts a look to K'narra, as if to say see I'm not crazy or the only one, and sarcasticly says "Why Milo I am so glad that some else shares my "paranoia"."
Shadrach Tuesday July 25th, 2000 12:09:23 AM
Shad chuckled and pocketed his new gains. He grinned at Ingrge, "Aw, don't worry. If you keep an eye on her tonight, I'll ask for divine advice."
K'nara Tuesday July 25th, 2000 6:37:35 AM
"We must be cautious these days, good cleric," K'nara said with a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, "One never knows where one's enemy may be." The human bladesinger made no effort to dismount, but kept tight rein on Poki and waited to see if the woman would give the correct countersignal.
Olana Tuesday July 25th, 2000 1:11:56 PM
Olana can't help smiling, listening to the banter between Milo and Shad. She winces, noticing Dakar's scars as the dwarf speaks up - but then, he had taken quite a pasting back there. As the others negotiate with the newcomer, she looks around for a likely place where the horses could be tethered and grazed.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Tuesday July 25th, 2000 1:43:16 PM
"My thanks - that is indeed gracious of you," says Lorna, addressing Figment. She puzzles over something for a moment - "Now just let me think - ah yes," she says, bringing forward her right hand and imitating K'Nara's gesture, but then turning over the fist and opening her hand, palm up. "There," she says with a grin at the warrior. "I knew I'd remember it eventually." On studying the stone, Figment seems to remember the holy symbol of Alemi is indeed a red ruby - or a garnet or piece of glass cut to resemble one. "I am sorry to spring out on you like this," she continues, dismounting. "I travelled with Maredrew but then went on to Titania to wait for you and do what I could to help there. I suppose you could say I got a little restless. After all, I'd done what I could. They're just waiting for the tea there now." It is getting quite dark. The owl hoots have ceased, and the escort appears to be setting up camp. Their leader passes by Ingrge and grunts with approval on seeing the weapon in his hand. Most of them seem to give K'Nara and Shad a wide berth. From the looks on their faces - they seem to regard them as quite fearsome, especially Shad. ((Watches anyone?))
Shadrach d100=36 Tuesday July 25th, 2000 2:47:30 PM
Shad was a little confused by the looks he was getting. You'd think people would give funny looks to psychos like Ingrge or Dakar. He found a quiet place to make his augury, asking "Will we find woe or weal if we trust Lorna?"
Figment Tuesday July 25th, 2000 4:54:03 PM
The mage smiles as the priestess is a little more specific in her wanderings and previous company. "Interesting, this will indeed be an interesting night. I will be pleased to make you a fine dinner tonight as we have an escort and seem to have plenty of time - that is, if you'd like one. Of course, it will not be anything like what one could fix with a proper kitchen, but much better than field rations. Until now, most of my time with this noble group has been during conflict. There has been little time to share my culinary talent.". To the elves he says "Any chance I could get you to capture some game? Anything you like will be fine.".
Milo Tuesday July 25th, 2000 5:42:27 PM
"I'll look for some game Figment," Milo announces, then proceeds to string his short bow and nock an arrow. "I'll be back in a while." Milo disappears, activating his ring of invisibility, and then proceeds to make a circuit around the campsite, at 50, 100, 200, and 300 yards distance respectively. He is looking for game, and any possible trouble.
K'nara Wednesday July 26th, 2000 6:06:14 AM
Satisfied with the priestess Lorna's response, the human bladesinger dismounted with a friendly smile. "Welcome, then, to the safety--as such--of our little band." After a quick check of the camp being set up, K'nara addressed her fellow Talons: "Watch duty is...Figment and Ingrge first; Dakar and Fluet second; Milo and I third; Shad and Olana fourth. Any objections?" Her sharp hazel eyes darted from member to member, looking to see if anyone disagreed with the watch assignments.
Flueterflam Wednesday July 26th, 2000 11:01:57 AM
Fluet shrugs his shoulders. Mumbling, 'this'll be interesting.' He settles himself down, and begins to think how to end one of the songs he had been working on awhile back.
Milo d20=4 d20=9 d20=1 d20=5 d20=12 d20=10 Wednesday July 26th, 2000 12:07:35 PM
A while later, Milo returns from his hunt. In the growing darkness, he is nearly impercetible, but as he gets closer to Figment's cookfire, he can be seen, covered from head to toes in varying hues of earth and mud. A large green lilypad rests atop his head, and a smile adorns his face. "I found game Figment... I've come to test your culinary skills..." Opening a sack, Milo begins to produce his quarry... "I've got a pair of quail..." leaning down to the mage conspiratorially, he whispers "I heard the Elven folk like those" and then upending the rest of his bag... "I've bagged myself a pair of large swamp frogs... there legs make good eatin' when prepared correctly..." The halfling smiles from ear to ear, the lilypad slipping off of the back of his head, and plopping onto the ground behind him. "I'll go wash up..."
Olana Wednesday July 26th, 2000 12:46:31 PM
The elf hops down from the wagons, nodding at K'Nara about the watch. "Okay!" she says brightly, and helps set up camp. She will find a little time to discuss forest ranger type stuff with their escort before eating and getting some rest.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Wednesday July 26th, 2000 1:00:23 PM
"I'm sure it will be marvellous," says Lorna as Figment mentions dinner. "And thank you," she adds to K'Nara, letting her go about her business organising the others. "It's only a short days ride to Titania," she tells them as they settle around the campfire. "And they'll be oh, so pleased to see you." The night passes. All watches are relatively undisturbed apart from the usual nocturnal sounds heard within the forest. Dawn arrives, slightly chilly, and mist hugs the trees.
Figment Wednesday July 26th, 2000 4:28:48 PM
The mage smiles at Milo's challenge and prepares the game in a way you would expect to see only in a fine restaurant. The only difference being the atmosphere and some of the 'extras' you would get there. He pulls out spices and things from one of his saddle bags and some vegetables native to the area from the wagon which he apparently garnered from the city before departing and makes a meal that takes everyones mind off the current difficult situation they are facing. He makes especially sure there is enough for the elves as well as the party. After a lively conversation with their new priestess friend and the elven detachment - and the first watch - the mage sleeps realizing for the first time in a long time that he has no spells to rememorize. He sleeps well indeed. Come morning he cleans up, checks the mounts, and prepares to depart.
Ingrge Wednesday July 26th, 2000 4:38:14 PM
hearing K'narra's watch pronouncements, Ingrge nods and then goes about taking care of Moonshadow and the stowing of his gear. After a while and during dinner, He catches K'narra alone and asks her if she has any idea or preference about how the group should prepare for whatever is upcoming. I really think it is time we star trying to work out some group strategies for situations as opposed to all of us doing our own thing. There seems to be far to much duplication of effort.
Shadrach Wednesday July 26th, 2000 8:55:31 PM
Shad seemed ebullient on his return to help set up camp for the night. He even pirouhetted and sang, "Money!" Still humming, he rubbed his hands and chuckled at the sight of Lorna. After she looked at him funny, he realized he was leering and cut it out. He thoroughly enjoyed Figment's concoction and even complimented the mage. He gave K'Nara a thumbs up and went to bed chortling to himself. On his morning watch, he kept chuckling and humming, but not explaining what was so funny to Olana.
K'nara Thursday July 27th, 2000 8:13:26 AM
Ingrge managed to catch up to the human bladesinger as she finished up her portion of the quail. K'nara nodded agreement. "Indeed, yes, I think the addition of the somewhat, um, zealous Dakar has thrown us a bit. We should make the others aware of how we ought to approach potential battles. You, my friend, have seen them in a few more situations than I...what are your recommendations..?" After discussing the matter with Ingrge a bit, K'nara promised to consider the matter and even talk about it to the others on the trip to Titania. Then she asked Ingrge for confirmation about a rumor that she'd heard--that warrior-wizards such as himself could only wear elven chainmail and still retain the ability to cast spells. When she got the answer to this, K'nara nodded and thanked him, then went off to her bed until her watch. At the end of her watch, the female fighter woke up Olana and gave to the ranger the bundle she'd returned from the tree city with. "Inside this package is a set of fine brigandine armor..." she explained to Olana, "...it is a powerful bit of magic armor, but I fear that I cannot wear it because it is sized for an elf--or a half-elf at most...plus its magics are such that the armor itself has a measure of intelligence and mayhap willpower. I am good at tactics and calculating how to cripple or kill an enemy, but my willpower is not much above average when it comes to resisting the persuasion of magic spells. I think YOU will fare better with this than I would." With these words, the leader of the Emerald Talons presented the magic armor to Olana.
Olana Thursday July 27th, 2000 12:42:12 PM
Olana complimented Figment on the frog legs, for they had tasted so very very good. She was thanking Milo and asking how he managed to catch the amphibians when K'Nara presented her with the armour. "Oh!" she said, blinking, quite astonished. "Well thank you! Thank you very much!" and then scampered off to try it on. This had been a strange but pleasant day, and she slept well until her watch. Shad was being rather odd though. He was... cheerful. Yes, that's the word... cheerful. Odd, very odd indeed. Come the morning she helped pack up with the rest, getting used to her new skin of armour.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Thursday July 27th, 2000 1:00:01 PM
The party sets off once more. The mist soon gives way to the sun, which fires shafts of light through the surrounding trees. Lorna rides alongside Figment, continuing their conversation - herbs and spices, theology, the local elven architecture, you name it. Then - mid afternoon, two elves in forest clothes appear round a bend in the track up ahead. On seeing the party, they turn tail and run - yelling their heads off. Two of the escort at the front look at one another and shrug.
Shadrach Thursday July 27th, 2000 2:34:31 PM
"Good reaction to danger! I wonder why they don't have guard patrols, though."
Figment Thursday July 27th, 2000 3:53:15 PM
engages Lorna in a very captivating coversation and finds that the day goes by quickly. Hoping the 'lively' reaction means they are nearing the end of their journey, the mage begins to look around for signs of another tree city.
Dakar the Painmonger Thursday July 27th, 2000 9:32:00 PM
Dakar leaps off his pony and attempts to track the elves flight with his eyes. "Looks a might bit suspicious to me... I dinna like the trickery of the elf-folk one bit."
Milo Friday July 28th, 2000 2:10:41 AM
The halfling is strangely silent throughout the day. Keeping his thoughts to himself, as, with furrowed brow, he sits atop the wagon, guiding the horses...
K'nara Friday July 28th, 2000 6:36:02 AM
The appearance of the other elves--who then turned around and ran away, yelling--made K'nara frown. She spurred her mount over to one of the escort who'd shrugged. "I don't speak elvish, sir," she said apologetically, "Just what was it that those two were yelling about?" Before the elf can answer, the warrior woman orders over her shoulder: "Oh, Milo--it may be a good idea to hand the reins to Olana and activate your ring...just in case! Everyone else keep sharp." Then she turned to face the elf she'd addressed first, waiting to see what the translation would be.
Olana Friday July 28th, 2000 10:47:50 AM
Olana nudges Fluet on the wagon. "We'd better stay sharp like she says. We should be near Titania now I think... but still..." The elf makes sure her weapons are readily accessible. All she had heard was yelling - nothing intelligible.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Friday July 28th, 2000 12:06:32 PM
One of the elder elven escort looks up at K'Nara. "All I could hear was 'Hey! Hey..' or something. It was never like that in my day. We were all restrained and knew how to behave." The party hear one of the other elves snorting at that remark. All becomes apparent when you round the bend in the track, and a horde of younger elves come running up the road and follow alongside, cheering merrily as you approach the town of Titania. Once again, the buildings seem in keeping with the rest of the forest, although they are perhaps a little more obvious than the previous village. This is a bigger place you realise - bustling with activity - most of which is currently at the gate to meet you. A party of local dignitories greets you and gives you their version of "our town is yours" speech, and asks if they can take the cargo you are carrying. Lorna, the mysterious priestess who has been traveling with you, gives you all a beatific smile. Then - her face becoming solemn, she says - "I'm staying at an Inn called 'The Old Toad'. Please - when you've finished here? I need to speak with you. It's very very important." With that she rides off up the main street. It is late afternoon, still sunny - and a strange, not altogether pleasant smell hangs in the air.
Figment Friday July 28th, 2000 3:40:01 PM
The mage smiles as the greetings are given. He waits respectfully as K'Nara handles the introductions. He looks to their elf contingent to see if they react negatively to the request of the cargo. If not the mage stands ready to help.
Milo Friday July 28th, 2000 3:40:02 PM
Milo is pleased to see that all is well, as he didn't want to waste the magic of the ring for today just yet. Pushing his hat back on his head, he hops down from the wagon and walks into the crowd of younger elves offering them treats of dried fruit and nuts that he was given in the last elven town.
Dakar the Painmonger Sunday July 30th, 2000 9:44:46 AM
For the first time on this long journey Dakar smiles and greets the elven children with warmth. He begins regaling the children with tales of his days as a warrior and walks among them for a time before asking if the party wishes to move on.
Shadrach Sunday July 30th, 2000 3:41:49 PM
Shad smiled and waved a lot, beginning to feel like he was in a parade. When given the chance, he explained to the town elders that, as it was common knowledge that sailors who slept on mountaintops or tall trees would be carried off by Rocs, he would prefer to sleep on the ground.:)
Ingrge Monday July 31st, 2000 7:34:55 AM
Relaxing a bit, Ingrge can't shake the feeling that something is not right. So while he does point his arrow toward the ground he does not put his weapon away.
Olana Monday July 31st, 2000 12:55:00 PM
Olana grins at Fluet. "Looks like we can get rid of this cartload now," she says and jumps down from the wagon. The new armour made her feel a little more clumsy than usual, but she shrugged. She'd give it time - after all she could always take it off. It did feel very comfortable though.
DM Jan (The Final Stretch) Monday July 31st, 2000 1:18:26 PM
With a bow, and a salute that involves bringing their fist diagonally across their chest, the elven escort announce that it's time for them to return back to their village. Milo and Dakar are a real hit with the younger members of the crowd, who oooh and aaah at the tales being told. As you all look around, you notice that most of the service buildings - shops, Inns, blacksmiths etc - are on or very near ground level. There are other dwellings high in the trees, connected by rope bridges - but these appear to be small, private dwellings. Two of the reception committee look baffled at Shad as he announces his preferences. They look at him - then look high in the trees, then back at him - then break into a chuckle. "All the Inns are down here," says one of them, struggling to straighten his face. "And of course you and your party will be welcome in any one of them. Forgive us please - we don't see many big humans in trees. If your party would tell us where you'd like to stay - we will lead the way"
Figment Monday July 31st, 2000 4:06:41 PM
The mage smiles at all the attention. "I believe we need to meet a friend of ours at The Old Toad. Can you take us there please after we stable our horses.". He inquires if there are any public gardens that would be interested in having a tree seed - a very special tree seed. He offers them a couple of his remaining seeds from the druid's fruit and, of course, saves the remaining 3 for himself. "I'll be by after we get our rooms and horses taken care of.". On the way to the inn, the mage turns to K'Nara "So are we to keep the wagon and horses to return them to Plateau City, or are we to leave them here?".
Dakar the Painmonger Monday July 31st, 2000 5:19:25 PM
The dwarf nods in assent. " I too beleive that we should make our way to the Old Toad. If nothing else, we should humor the lass by listening to whatever her "important news" may be." Bowing to the children with a flourish he checks his gear and prepares to move onwards.
Milo Monday July 31st, 2000 9:11:23 PM
Following in the wake created by Dakar, Milo grabs his backpack, and after slinging it across his back, he looks up to his much larger friends, "Ready to proceed to the Old Toad... though I wouldn't mind staying in a treehouse overnight... It looks like fun.." The halfling's eyes are alight with curiousity and amusement.
K'nara d20=17 Tuesday August 1st, 2000 6:31:50 AM
K'nara--not used to the overwhelming attention lavished upon the party by such enthusiastic sources--attempted to be charming, but appeared a bit stiff (failed a voluntary Charisma check.) Nevertheless, the elves of Titania were too happy to see the arrival of the remedy to be put-off by a skittish human, and so no real harm was done. The leader of the Talons spoke briefly with the escort, telling them to make sure the supply of tea got safely to its storage site. "We also need to find out where to house the draft horses and carts," she said out loud, "...and we will meet with the cleric at the Old Toad." As the party made its way to the inn to meet Lorna, she added so that all the group could hear: "We are not returning to Plateau City--not immediately, anyway. We are home now...and here is where our help is needed most."
Olana Tuesday August 1st, 2000 11:18:35 AM
The elf smiled politely at the crowds and looked about. So - this was Titania. It was bigger than she thought it would be. Seeing Ingrge still armed made her smile turn to a grin. She gave him a wink then followed the others.
DM Jan (A New Chapter?) Tuesday August 1st, 2000 12:21:11 PM
Having stabled the horses by the gate, two of the local elven dignatories lead you all off up the street. The crowd starts to thin, and somehow the mood seems to become a little more sombre. One of the elves tells Figment that they will ask about the seeds, but explain that their clerics have their hands full at the moment. Following their pointed fingers you see in the distance another crowd. A sad tune floats your way, and you see smoke, maybe explaining where that bad smell is coming from. "This disease took a third of the town," said the elf sadly, shaking his head as he continued his conversation with Figment. "But be assured I'll let our clerics know about this." Up ahead is a large pond - and alongside it - The Old Toad Inn. It's a large but low building with a flat roof, carved like a giant lily pad. All around, lights are starting to come on here and there in the trees as twilight approaches. The door to the Inn is open, and you hear music - although its all but drowned out by chirrups and croaks coming from the direction of the pond. Beside the door stands a huge carved-from-wood statue of a toad with a crown on it's head. "Well here you are," exclaim the two elves. "The food is good, and the beds are cosy." With a bow and a flourish, they turn and disappear down the darkening street. A large green beetle flies past - hovering around Dakar for a moment, before continuing on it's haphazard journey.
Dakar the Painmonger Tuesday August 1st, 2000 1:19:46 PM
Dakar quirks a brow at the beetle for a moment, wondering if it is a portent of things to come somehow. Finally thinking nothing of it he enters the inn and begins looking for the mysterious woman of earlier.
Milo Tuesday August 1st, 2000 1:47:49 PM
Delighted at K'nara's pronouncement, Milo is literally beside himself with joy and wonder as he enters the elven home called Titania. Seeing the Old Toad Inn, the halfling nearly bounces on his toes, "What a remarkable tavern." His small cherubic face turns serious for a moment as he notices the beetle flapping around Dakar, "Perhaps friend Dwarf... you could use a bath..." the halfling grins, "I know I could... a nice hot one."
Figment Tuesday August 1st, 2000 3:01:25 PM
The mage steps into the bar, feeling a bit strange - like he won't see his home for a while. As K'Nara has pronounced the intentions of the Talons to stay in the Emerald Kingdom for a while the mage smiles a bit grimly and says "I guess I will have an experience somewhat like yours. My family is for the most part not interested in seeing me now and so my being away will probably be a good thing. But I will miss it...". The mage looks for the priestess in hopes of continuing their conversation.
Ingrge Tuesday August 1st, 2000 5:27:02 PM
As the party moves through the town and toward the inn Ingrge relaxes a bit and even a smile touches the corners of his mouth as he watches the antics of the young elf children surrounding and hounding Milo and Dakar. His face gets very grim and a hard look touches his eyes as their escort points toward the funeral pyres and tells them about the diseases damage. About the time they reach the inn it is obvious that he has come to some sort of decision. As he puts away his bow and enters the inn, he winds his way up to K'narra and simply says, "Fine, I'll do it." Ingrge then walks over to a corner table and sits down.
Olana Wednesday August 2nd, 2000 10:44:13 AM
Walking along, Olana marvelled at the town - a much bigger place than the last one, and definitely bigger than her own village. The darkening sky seemed to make it all the more magical somehow as she saw all the lights appear in the trees. At the sight of the funeral pyres she stopped and stared for a moment. Ingrge reaction she could understand. As for herself - she just felt - empty somehow. Giving a shrug, she accompanied the others to the Inn. She felt tired, was hungry and needed a bath.
DM Jan (A New Chapter?) Wednesday August 2nd, 2000 11:59:02 AM
Lorna the priestess is easily spotted inside, sat at a corner table, and she smiles as you arrive. "I've asked for a quiet room upstairs where we won't be disturbed," she says. "I've already eaten, so please - settle yourselves in and get something to eat. When you're done, meet with me upstairs and I'll tell you what this is all about." Her face takes on a serious note at this last part, and with a polite bow to them all - she heads for the stairs. The Innkeeper, his head barman and two serving maids are stood there looking at you expectantly. He tells you how proud he is at having you visit his humble establishment - and that there are rooms available, hot tubs out the back next to the pond, and then rhymes off a list of food and drink including spicy stew, fresh bread, fruit, cheese, roast boar with apples, walnut loaf, juice, elven wines, and a rare cask of dwarven ale. The main bar - while not crowded, boasts a fair number of the local elven patrons - who raise their glasses to you whenever you make eye contact. There is a roaring fire by the hearth. Sat in front of it, warming their toes are two male elves having a heated conversation about stolen apples. "Don't care who they are," mutters one of them. "I work long and hard on those orchards - next time I see 'em I'll set the birds on 'em."
Figment Wednesday August 2nd, 2000 1:15:09 PM
The mage orders stew, cheese, walnut loaf, and a nice red wine for the meal. "My good innkeep, we most likely will be staying here unless our conversation with the priestess requires we leave immediately - but that I doubt. I will look forward to your hot baths out back." He listens with interest as the elves speak of the apples but he never engages in the coversation. He smiles and nods any time he is toasted. He, of course, returns the favour as appropriate. He does not take long to enjoy the meal but he pauses as he tastes the wine especially considering it's quality. When the group completes their meal and rises to meet Lorna, he makes sure and compliments the chef and servers for their exemplary service and food.
Flueterflam Wednesday August 2nd, 2000 5:37:06 PM
Fluet orders fruit mainly, but a little of everything else. Once his food comes, he eats a surprising amount for his slender body. After he finisheds, he sits behind the two arguing by the fire to listen more in depth about what they have to say.
Milo Wednesday August 2nd, 2000 5:37:07 PM
Realizing that his tummy is empty, Milo orders stew, cheese, fruit, and some of the walnut loaf, and a nice cup of tea to wash it down. Placing five gold coins in the innkeeper's hand, "I'd like to buy a glass of wine for the folks here," he motions to the elves in the room. "I'm also looking forward to a nice hot bath after speaking with milady upstairs." The halfling grins.
Ingrge Wednesday August 2nd, 2000 6:36:27 PM
Ingrge orders quite a bit of food and then just barely nibbles on anything as he seems way far out, lost in his own thoughts, His glass of elven red wine though keeps ending up empty and is refilled at least four times.
K'nara Thursday August 3rd, 2000 5:45:41 AM
The female fighter smiled and thanked the helpful staff of the Old Toad in advance for the service they would soon be rendering, because she--for one--was famished. After ordering a prodigious amount of food, K'nara sighed and sank into her seat a bit. "I like the idea that I am stepping on native soil," she said, "Even though the immediate circumstances are not...ideal." Then she, too, tilted her head to listen to the conversation about orchards and birds...
Olana Thursday August 3rd, 2000 11:06:33 AM
Olana excused herself and took advantage of the hot tubs first, before eating. It took a while to wriggle out of her armour, but she felt so much better after a wash, and rebraided her clean hair with precision. Once she'd replaced her armour, strangely enough she felt even better. Back inside, she sat with the others, eating some walnut loaf and fruit. "What are those old fools gossiping about," she asked, putting her feet up on a chair, and gesturing toward the fire.
Olana Thursday August 3rd, 2000 11:41:29 AM
Those listening in on the conversation by the fire hear that "... everything was fine until 'the new rule'. After that - it was total chaos... " and "....XXXXX(expletive deleted) dragon.." after which they glance around fearfully - but thats about all. The Innkeeper announces proudly to K'Nara that there will be no charge for service and sustinence. "You can tip the maids if you like," he says. "But I won't hear of anything else." Both Figment and Ingrge find the wine of good quality, and exceptionally strong, and the local's grins become wider as they're handed a free glass of the stuff - courtesy of Milo. It's getting late - and some of the patrons begin to leave. Outside - the insect cacophony around the pond has lessened, and the townspeople are starting to shut up shop, and head for their beds. Upstairs, the priestess waits - her door slightly ajar.
DM Jan (A new Chapter?) Thursday August 3rd, 2000 11:51:15 AM
((Grrrrr..... I swear I changed the above sigline - honest - double checked it too))
Flueterflam Thursday August 3rd, 2000 6:51:29 PM
Fluet takes his leave and proceeds alone to the priestess' room. He enters timidly, as though afraid he might disturb the room's occupants. "I'm sure everyone will be here soon. By the way, I just wanted to ask a question...." Fluet waits until he has her attention. "The elves here seem a bit not like elves. I'm not sure how to put it to words, but do you know what I mean? Anyway, I was hoping maybe you could enlighten me in understanding why things are like how they are."
Milo Friday August 4th, 2000 3:06:34 AM
After finishing his meal, Milo quietly walks upstairs to the priestess' room and entering just as quietly, after the bard, sits on the floor, with his back to the wall, and listens.
K'nara Friday August 4th, 2000 6:11:10 AM
The human bladesinger ate her fill while noting the conversation between the disgruntled orchard workers. Then she rose to her feet, leaving on the table enough silver so that the serving maids got two apiece, and ambled up the stairs with a burp and a blushing "oh, excuse me!" She walked into the priestess' room after Lorna answered Fluet's question.
Figment Friday August 4th, 2000 1:21:15 PM
The mage makes his way upstairs noticing the fear the elves have toward their tyrant leader. His sadness deepens when he realized they are currently better off with him in power compared to the Dark Lord. He grows quickly thankful of his own situation as he opens the door to Lorna's room. He takes a seat near the priestess.
Olana Friday August 4th, 2000 1:21:16 PM
The elf follows the others upstairs, very curious as to what the priestess has to say.
DM Jan (A New Chapter?) Friday August 4th, 2000 1:21:17 PM
Lorna thinks for a moment, and then shrugs at Fluet's question. "Perhaps it's because these are strange times, my young friend, where there is no room for songs and dancing, and where some heavy compromises have to be made - don't forget you are their honoured guests. They're a proud lot, and are doing what they can by way of recompense. It is therefore important to accept what they give with good grace." Then she winks at him. "And a lot better than being met at the gate with spears, I should think." As the others arrive she smiles and welcomes them, asking the last one in to close the door. As soon as everyone is seated, she says - "I thank you all for agreeing to listen to me, and I won't beat about the bush. The Tines desperately need your help. I wasn't sure if Maredrew had told you or not, but one of our leaders, a good man, of great influence - has been captured and imprisoned, and languishes in the Emerald City's strongest prison. We have to get him out before the whole structure of the Tines crumbles and falls apart. Please - will you help us?"
Figment Friday August 4th, 2000 3:53:12 PM
The mage watches Lorna as she makes her request. As is his custom, he asks for more information. "So where is the prison and who is it we're trying to free? Also, why was he imprisoned? What was his 'crime'?".
Milo Friday August 4th, 2000 7:11:05 PM
Milo gets a sagely look on his face, "Hmmm... an opportunity to break into a prison." The halfling rubs his forefinger and thumb against his chin, "An interesting challenge... I like it." His face brightens...
Flueterflam Saturday August 5th, 2000 2:13:09 AM
The bard thinks back to a previous situation that he had in a prison. As if to erase the memory, he shakes his head. Then proceeds, directing his words to his first, and original, companions, "I don't like Parnoth prisons." He shakes his head again. After pausing a moment, "I suppose, despite any questions any of us asks, we will still accept. Mind you, I'm not speaking for the others, just making an observation. It seems to be our custom to try to accommodate everyone's request of us."
Olana Monday August 7th, 2000 12:16:43 PM
Olana narrows her eyes at the mention of prison for a moment, and then shrugs. Winking at Fluet, she says to him. "You have a point my friend, but do you have something better to do?"
DM Jan (A new Chapter?) Monday August 7th, 2000 12:53:55 PM
Lorna listens to the questions presented to her before attempting to explain. "The man in question is Caden Tremaine." The priestess almost seems to glow as she speaks of him. "He's been one of the leaders of the Tines for a long while. It is he who somehow, even when everything looks black - gives us the hope and enthusiasm needed to keep us on our path. Without him we are lost." Then, with a sigh she continues. "The prison itself is not far from Parnoth's palace - at the far edge of the Emerald City. It's heavily guarded, and is magically warded." Looking at Fluet she adds - "I understand your hesitation, young bard. I realise what I ask of you - and the potential dangers involved. This will be no picnic, I assure you, but - alas we've tried everything. The only bright light in all this - is that we 'think' we've discovered a way to get in." Standing, she walks to a window that overlooks the main thoroughfare of Titania. "As to why he was imprisoned, well - as you're probably aware - Parnoth banned all elves from the City and it's surrounding areas. This is probably as near an elf can get to the City - unless they're a gardener- or part of a merchant's caravan. The result of this has meant starvation and homelessness. Caden was meant to have a secret meeting with one of the City's Elders - one responsible for food distribution in the hope of smuggling food out to those who needed it." She laughed bitterly before continuing. "He was betrayed of course. I suppose the Elders are too deep in Parnoth's pocket. He is now in jail charged with perverting the course of justice. We don't know what his fate will be there, people have been executed for less. All we know is that he's still alive." Turning away from the window, she dabbed away a tear. "I'm sorry," she said. "This is most upsetting."
Flueterflam Monday August 7th, 2000 7:27:46 PM
The bard frowns.
Ingrge Monday August 7th, 2000 8:01:47 PM
With a scowl on his face, (and a song in his heart) Ingrge looks at Lorna and asks, "Just how many people are going to know of our mission, should we accept it?" I am extremely tired of everyone knowing our every move seemingly before we do. It makes me angry. And you won't like me If I get angry.
Dakar the Painmonger Monday August 7th, 2000 9:24:06 PM
" I need plans. Floor plans inside and at kleast some sketches of guard movement on the outside. You tines must have had one person come out of this jail at some point. We need to talk to them and get what they know. We need oil. Heavy casks but not too heavy that we can't carry them. Preferably several. What typoe of construction is the building? Stone? Wood? Metal? What race constructed it? All these questions must be answered."
Milo Monday August 7th, 2000 11:46:31 PM
Deep in thought, Milo abruptly pipes up, "Yes I agree with Dakar, plans would be very nice, and guard movements miraculous..." Turning to the dwarf, "I'd be happy to scout out the guard situation once we got there... perhaps an evening to plan, and then an evening to execute. Though I'm not sure why you want oil. I think that the quieter we pull this off, the better..." Its obvious that a plan is trying to work itself out in the diminutive burglar's mind as he thoughtfully strokes his own chin.
Figment Tuesday August 8th, 2000 8:33:57 AM
The mage rises and tries to comfort the woman. "If you know a way in why has there been no attempt to get hime out yet?", The mage waits for the reponses.
K'nara Tuesday August 8th, 2000 8:33:58 AM
"We who are Tines ourselves will do whatever it takes to free Caden." the leader of the Emerald Talons said forcefully. "I will not pledge those who are not members of the Tines, but I, myself, would personally appreciate the assistance." K'nara turned to face the priestess. "If you could kindly give the details that my fellow Emerald Talons have asked about..? Oh, and just HOW is it that you believe we CAN get into the prison..?"
Olana Tuesday August 8th, 2000 10:32:18 AM
K'Nara was right - Olana, being a Tine would have no real choice but to help here. Still - the others raised some interesting questions, so she sat quietly, wondering how the priestess would answer.
DM Jan (The Plot Thickens) Tuesday August 8th, 2000 11:56:27 AM
Recovering her composure, Lorna re-takes her seat, looking at the fearsome young elf. "The Tines have their way of knowing things, and yes - there will be others who will know of this plan - but not many. Myself, Maredrew, and a couple of contacts in the City, who have the prison plans - but that should be about it." Facing them all, she folds her hands on her lap. "I'll tell you what I can," she says. "The prison is a formidable place, made of stone. There are two floors above ground, administrative buildings - the rest of it is underground. So far we've had three attempts at getting in - with disasterous and fatal consequences. The problem hasn't been the guards, although knowing their movements are important - it's the wards, and we've been unable to find a way past them. These wards have been successful in ensuring that absolutely no one has been able to escape. Until now." The priestess paused for a moment, before continuing. "We have it on good authority that someone has indeed escaped - and is now on the run - AND we know his current hideout, although why he would choose to hide in Emerald City I don't know. If it were me - I'd be off like a frightened rabbit. Now in order to have got out of there - he HAS to have known how to get around those wards. So the first step is to contact him, find out what he knows - and hopefully enlist his help. This won't be as easy as it sounds - and for that reason we need the best people to tackle this. You ARE the best. Please - will you do this?"

The mage sits back down and looks at the others. He takes a deep breath and sighs remembering he is almost the newest member of this group. "In my wildest dreams I would never have imagined going to a foreign country and within days breaking into their top security prison to free a dissident to the government - and all within a couple of months in knowing you all. This is indeed more than I imagined could possibly happen! Of course I've also met the High Lord Mayor, had dinner with the Gold Dragons, had a look at Joe Hands' spell books, gained a great deal of power and prestige among my peers in the arts... and that's just the beginning of our adventures. Most recently the Hierophant told us that we'd be the undoing of the current problems of this country. I can see how this mission could very well be a huge factor. I do not remember taking a binding oath to this group - as is the custom in New Elenna, but I HAVE taken the oath in spirit as we have relied on each other to preserve life and limb. I know little of the Tines but I know more about some of those who are Tines.". The mage stands. "If they are in so am I! But I must admit the notion makes me uncomfortable as I don't know that much about the politics and laws of this place - nor how it may affect my own country...".
Flueterflam Tuesday August 8th, 2000 2:49:58 PM
"Do you know what the problem is with the wards?" Fluet waits for the answer patiently. After receiving his answer, "And are you sure that a group of us, assuming we make it inside alright, won't be able to take them on?"
Milo Tuesday August 8th, 2000 4:39:34 PM
"Heck Figment, not counting Dakar over there, I am the newest recruit to this group..." facing K'nara, "But I don't need some old oath to tell me whats right from wrong... and there are times for both..." the halfling gets a perplexed expression on his face as if he just confused himself, then continuing, "At any rate, you can count me in.. on principle, and pure curiousity..." satisfied with that, Milo smiles.
Ingrge Tuesday August 8th, 2000 7:27:43 PM
Hmmphh, That's four too many for my way of thinking. As for doing this chore, My Tine oath would bind me even did I not want to do this. Although I must admit to being a bit leary of a sudden escapee that flees to the city.
Dakar the Painmonger Tuesday August 8th, 2000 8:43:08 PM
"I'm in already, but that's beyond the qeustion. Location of the escapee is what? We'll get the trick out of him one way or another." says the dwarf calmly, while stroking his axe.
K'nara Wednesday August 9th, 2000 7:38:21 AM
"I see that the Talons are with me," K'nara said, smiling proudly, "And I, too, have my suspicions about a 'sudden' escapee. We will go see this person and do whatever we can to free Caden Tremaine."
Olana Wednesday August 9th, 2000 11:02:12 AM
Olana looks at Dakar's axe and smiles grimly. Then, shaking her head as though she's trying to get rid of something, she says brightly. "Don't worry Lorna - we'll get him out if we can! And I'm sure this escapee will be willing to help us."
DM Jan (The Plot Thickens) Wednesday August 9th, 2000 12:43:36 PM
The priestess looks visibly relieved. "Thankyou," she said, letting out a sigh. "As to how this will affect things in the long term, I can only see it being for the good. Caden is not an extremely radical man. He's aware of the delicate balance that must be kept here in relation to the Dark One whom Parnoth keeps at bay. As for the escapee - I share your misgivings. He's hopped from hideout to hideout in the City, and it's taking all our time to keep tabs on him. Mind you - he has good reason to be moving constantly." Her brow furrows for a moment. "Parnoth has given us a new 'problem' to contend with. He has recently acquired the services of an elite group of mercenaries, who go by the name of Obsidian. Whether this group existed before they came here - or whether they were created by Parnoth - we know not. But they're here, and they appear to be acting as his underground enforcers. They are discreet, efficient, and deadly. We have reason to believe they'd like to get their hands on this escapee too. Their reputation is such amongst those of, ahem - questionable behaviour, that crime has dropped by a quarter already. People are terrified." Glancing out of the window, she adds - "It's very late - you will want some sleep I'm sure. I suggest you retire for the night. Think of any other questions you may have - and I'll answer them on the morrow. I presume you will leave as soon as you have replenished your supplies? I'll be up early, and I'll tell you who you're contacts are in the City." She stood up, as though to leave, but stopped by Fluet. "Those wards? They surround the outer perimeter of the prison, and stretch underground too. If you don't have the right protection - pftht! - you disintergrate. Not a terribly nice way to depart this plane of existance is it." Outside - all is quiet apart from a few frog croaks, and cricket chirrups. Even the lights in the trees have gone out.

The mage smiles at the show of solidarity in the group. It is good to know he travels with such hearty, committed, and dignified souls. After Lorna finishes her discourse he stands up to leave, bowing before exit. "My dear, it has been a good day. To have delivered the medicine to those who need it, find a way to help further, and to have met one as lovely as you! I look forward to our meeting on the morrow. One last question - which I'm sure we will address tomorrow. How do we get to the City undetected by Parnoth? This would seem to me a challenge in itself. Good night.". The mage retires to the room so kindly provided by the elves and sleeps - once again knowing he has no memorization work to do. His eyes close knowing he has done well today.
Flueterflam Wednesday August 9th, 2000 4:05:20 PM
"Whoa...." Fluet's breath seemed to stop for a moment. He regained his composure after a minute or two. Fluet spends the rest of the night thinking about his life.
Dakar the Painmonger Wednesday August 9th, 2000 5:28:51 PM
"Ach! With a prison such as that there be no need for walls of metal or rock. May Domi bless and protect us, and may whatever other merciful gods there be protect the poor blokes of the Obsidian when we cross their path." The battlerager chuckles on the last note before ordering a second round of food.
Ingrge Wednesday August 9th, 2000 8:17:03 PM
listening to Lorna, Ingrge gets an even more serious look on his face as mention of the Obsidion is made. straightening up he looks Lorna in her eyes and says, So, let me get this straight. We need to sneak into Parnoth"s city under his nose and under penalty of death, avoid Obsidion and find this supposed escapee, convince him to give us factual information about getting through deadly wards that surround a high security prison full of guards, find the correct person in the midst of all the prisoners while avoiding the afore mentioned guards. Then with a possibly injured or helpless prisoner again avoid these guards escape from this inescapable prison, avoid the Obsidion again and somehow return our prisoner back to safety while still under Parnoth's eye and under penalty of death. Did i miss anything? If not, I see no particular reason that we have even a snowball's chance of carrying this off, But Hey, who wants to live forever?
Flueterflam Thursday August 10th, 2000 12:10:29 AM
Despite Ingrge's cynisism and the odds being against the group (as he so notably pointed out), the bard cracks a grin.
K'nara Thursday August 10th, 2000 6:46:17 AM
The tall human female looked steadily at her second-in-command then grinned herself. "Indeed, Ingrge--immortality is HIGHLY overrated." Then K'nara sighed, waving a hand. "Let us take advantage of being in an inn while we can and all of us get our rest for tomorrow. We'll restock if there's anything else we need get and mull over our options for getting into Emerald City then."
Olana Thursday August 10th, 2000 10:46:50 AM
Olana nods in agreement. "I suppose the best thing to do is take it a step at a time." Then she yawns, horribly tired for some reason. "Oooh, I'd better get some sleep," she says, following Figment out of the door.
DM Jan (The Plot Thickens) Thursday August 10th, 2000 4:39:04 PM
"It certainly won't be easy," says the priestess at Ingrge's and Dakar's comments, the irony washing right over her head, and then wanders off to her bed. The night is relatively quiet, and you should all be able to get a good night's rest. As dawn breaks, the town starts to come alive again as people start to go about their business. Cooking smells begin to rise up the stairs, announcing breakfast. It's plain fare, but there's plenty of it. Lorna is outside, having a little walk around the pond, while listening to a male elf who is sat cross-legged by the water playing a mournful tune on a long silver flute.
Ingrge Thursday August 10th, 2000 6:14:48 PM
Ingrge wakes up after a fairly restful night with quite a hang over. Grumpily he sits down to breakfast and as the others come down greets each in turn and when they are all down, speaks. I realize that there is perhaps a slight sense of urgency about all this, However we might ought to take the day to do a little shopping and really rest up. I myself have a few purchases and inquiries I would like to make.
Olana Friday August 11th, 2000 9:59:37 AM
After a restless night, Olana wakes up early and has a quick scout around in the early morning before joining the others for breakfast. She eats sparingly and nods at Ingrge. "There seem to be plenty of places to supply our needs from what I can see," she says. And - "Oh yeah - I saw the priestess outside by the pond."
Figment Friday August 11th, 2000 12:57:45 PM
The mage rises and joins the others for breakfast. He decides to wander the town looking into the magic shops for extra components, looks into any herb shops for additional cooking elements, and borrows the kitchen at the inn to make some additional 'gourmet' provisions for the trip - no need for all that overpriced gruel they sell at the adventurer's supply. Once ready he goes to the ancient priestess and gives her the seeds from the fruit gained from the High Druid, hoping that the tale of it and the potential results from planting them cheer her as she performs her grim task.
