K'nara Thursday August 10th, 2000 6:46:17 AM
The tall human female looked steadily at her second-in-command then grinned herself. "Indeed, Ingrge--immortality is HIGHLY overrated." Then K'nara sighed, waving a hand. "Let us take advantage of being in an inn while we can and all of us get our rest for tomorrow. We'll restock if there's anything else we need get and mull over our options for getting into Emerald City then."
Olana Thursday August 10th, 2000 10:46:50 AM
Olana nods in agreement. "I suppose the best thing to do is take it a step at a time." Then she yawns, horribly tired for some reason. "Oooh, I'd better get some sleep," she says, following Figment out of the door.
DM Jan (The Plot Thickens) Thursday August 10th, 2000 4:39:04 PM
"It certainly won't be easy," says the priestess at Ingrge's and Dakar's comments, the irony washing right over her head, and then wanders off to her bed. The night is relatively quiet, and you should all be able to get a good night's rest. As dawn breaks, the town starts to come alive again as people start to go about their business. Cooking smells begin to rise up the stairs, announcing breakfast. It's plain fare, but there's plenty of it. Lorna is outside, having a little walk around the pond, while listening to a male elf who is sat cross-legged by the water playing a mournful tune on a long silver flute.
Ingrge Thursday August 10th, 2000 6:14:48 PM
Ingrge wakes up after a fairly restful night with quite a hang over. Grumpily he sits down to breakfast and as the others come down greets each in turn and when they are all down, speaks. I realize that there is perhaps a slight sense of urgency about all this, However we might ought to take the day to do a little shopping and really rest up. I myself have a few purchases and inquiries I would like to make.
Olana Friday August 11th, 2000 9:59:37 AM
After a restless night, Olana wakes up early and has a quick scout around in the early morning before joining the others for breakfast. She eats sparingly and nods at Ingrge. "There seem to be plenty of places to supply our needs from what I can see," she says. And - "Oh yeah - I saw the priestess outside by the pond."
Figment Friday August 11th, 2000 12:57:45 PM
The mage rises and joins the others for breakfast. He decides to wander the town looking into the magic shops for extra components, looks into any herb shops for additional cooking elements, and borrows the kitchen at the inn to make some additional 'gourmet' provisions for the trip - no need for all that overpriced gruel they sell at the adventurer's supply. Once ready he goes to the ancient priestess and gives her the seeds from the fruit gained from the High Druid, hoping that the tale of it and the potential results from planting them cheer her as she performs her grim task.
DM Jan (In the Town) Saturday August 12th, 2000 1:09:04 PM
After a "few words" from the Innkeeper, the chef gives Figment the run of the kitchen. Strange looks are soon replaced by curious stares, and eventually recipes are traded and compared accompanied by heated debate and much pot clanging. Outside, the town is now in full swing. That awful smell seems to have cleared the air, and things appear to be calming down somewhat from yesterday. Even so - the elven townspeople are still courteous to these strangers in their midst. The local clerics are thankful for the gift of the seeds, and scurry off to plant them immediately. There is a tiny horde of elven children waiting outside to follow Milo and Dakar around, although they still shy away a little from the rest of the party, Shad in particular. As the party walks through the town going about their business, they will sometimes spot elves peeping at them curiously from the treehouses and walkways above. ((Time to shop till you drop folks - send me your shopping lists?))
Figment Monday August 14th, 2000 6:19:00 PM
The mage contents himself with creating some good food for the trip having replentished his components and repaired all equipment. He visits with local spell casters seeing if any would like to trade spells in hopes of gaining - and giving weapons to defend against Parnoth and the Dark Lord.
Dakar the Painmonger Monday August 14th, 2000 10:49:13 PM
Dakar spends the time in quiet solitude, honing his axe and cleaning the spikes he wears while burning a small cube of incense that smells of goblin blood. A low, flat-toned song can be heard drifting from his corner of the room as he works.
Olana Tuesday August 15th, 2000 10:48:07 AM
Olana wanders through town, purchasing a few more arrows and stocking up on more rations, then calling at the smithy to get her weapons sharpened. Afterwards she goes and sits alongside the Priestess, listening to the flautist. "These scarves," she asks. "Is that all we're going to need for protection?"
DM Jan (In the Town) Tuesday August 15th, 2000 11:10:47 AM
Lorna breaks off her concentration and looks at the elf. "Do you mean will they help you get into the City undetected? Well - they will certainly protect you against Parnoth's all seeing eye and ears. However - thats not to say the guards won't recognise you. I'd suggest you go in under cover of something. They're very easy on traveling merchants on their way to New Elanna." Glancing around, she adds - whispering. "I'll wait till the others arrive and then tell you who to contact there."
Figment Tuesday August 15th, 2000 1:44:27 PM
wonders if he found any mages to trade spells with.
K'nara Wednesday August 16th, 2000 10:16:24 AM
The warrior woman found that she had to perform her usual exercises under the critical eyes of those early-riser elves of the village--most of whom were ultra-curious children who whispered and giggled but kept their distance from K'nara for the most part. It was all she could do to keep the amused grin from her face at times, but the red-headed woman managed to discipline herself until the end of her training session--in spite of Greymalkin's witty comments from long-distance. She returned to the inn and joined the general breakfast gathering, eating heartily and keeping her ears open.
Milo Wednesday August 16th, 2000 10:43:48 AM
Having nothing else to do, Milo joins the elf children outside, and immediately begins teaching them a halfling variation on hide and seek where all but one attempt to hide together in one spot in the woods, while the seeker looks for the group. The play all morning, and into the afternoon, pausing for appropriate food breaks of course. In the late afternoon, the halfling returns to the Inn, whistling a merry tune.
Olana Wednesday August 16th, 2000 11:06:51 AM
After a while, the elf stands. "I'll go and round them up," she says to Lorna. "Unless you just want to tell me. Sometimes it's best if only one knows," she adds with a strange smile on her face.
DM Jan (In the Town) Wednesday August 16th, 2000 1:29:19 PM
Lorna regards the elf and says. "Perhaps you should collect your comrades. The faster this is done and you are on your way the better. That way - the escapee has less chance of evading our spies." Figment's visit to the wizard's hut - a hidden, tumbledown affair at the far edge of the pond proves fruitful, if somewhat foggy. K'Nara's practice causes a bit of an uproar amongst some of the warriors of the town who "just happen to be passing" at the time of her practice. There, her fighting style is debated hotly amongst themselves - some watch closely as if to learn - others speak of legend and a secret art forbidden to strangers. One of the younger ones approaches an elder and asks if she can learn to fight like that, and is greeted with a scowl. Milo's horde of little followers becomes greater as the day goes on. It is now mid-afternoon, and Lorna still sits by the pond. Dakar's weapons are starting to look pretty darned sparkly. If any of the others visit the stores, they will be greeted cordially and offered things at very reasonable prices.
Figment Wednesday August 16th, 2000 4:15:56 PM
The mage bows at the exchange with the mages and wishes them before returning to the pond. He visits with the priestess until all have arrived. "So tell me, my dear, where is it that you call home? Are you from the Plateaus?".
Ingrge Wednesday August 16th, 2000 7:11:18 PM
Ingrge wanders around the shops awhile and picks up the spell components he was running low on and asks around for directions to a sage or other person knowlegable about magic items. Once located Ingrge will see if he can find anything else out about his staff.
Flueterflam Wednesday August 16th, 2000 9:19:23 PM
Fluet wanders around aimlessly. He seems occupied with inventing a new song by means of whistling. There appears to be no rythm to any of his whistling, as he stops abruptly, or smiles and nods.....and suddenly forgets how the tune he just had went.
K'nara Thursday August 17th, 2000 6:27:29 AM
K'nara--feeling a bit sheepish because she'd mistakenly thought that Lorna was IN the Inn--ambled over to the pond where the priestess patiently waited for the entire group to gather, murmuring an apology as she sat down.
Olana Thursday August 17th, 2000 11:00:20 AM
Olana wanders around, letting some of the others know about the priestess, peeping around Dakar's door after knocking, and scouting through the town. Spying Fluet, she creeps up behind him and says "BOO!!!" before collapsing into giggles. "Hey Fluet - we have to go back to the pond," she adds.
DM Jan (The Plot Thickens Even More) Thursday August 17th, 2000 12:44:58 PM
Ingrge is directed to the shack at the other side of the pond, where one of the older elven wizards takes a look at the staff then promptly falls asleep."Hopefully when he wakes up - he'll be able to tell you something," says one of the others with a shrug. Lorna answers Figment's question with a whisper. "Actually my family are originally from Aisildur, but would never pray to Ga'al, and well - with the Wall and everything - Alemi isn't all that popular in a lot of places there. So - we became wanderers, but I chose to stay here as we passed through, changed my name... and here I am." At K'Nara's apology the priestess smiled. "Think nothing of it. You had to let your team stock up on supplies, and I do tend to move quietly and become unnoticed. One thing I will advise though - I would take extra rations if I were you. The road into the City has a strange habit of making food disappear." As the others appear, she gathers them around and speaks in a low voice. "Now - once you get into the City - you must go to a Tavern named The Stinking Hole. It's not in a very nice part of town I'm afraid. But compared to some places in other cities - it's not too bad. When you get there - ask for Cherry - she's also a Tine. She'll be able to tell you where the escapee is currently hiding. To be honest I see your biggest problem initially is getting into the City undetected. And there's Obsidian of course. Any questions so far?" As the party gathered round, a large green beetle floated lazily toward them on tiny but fast moving wings. It circled once, and then alighted on Fluet and crawled into his pocket.
Flueterflam Thursday August 17th, 2000 3:33:18 PM
The bard stumbles over himself as surprise catches hold. As Olana giggles, Fluet just scowls at her. "Just wait, that'll come back to you. Don't worry." After he calms down a bit, he listens to the priestess. When the beetle crawls into his pocket, Fluet stands perfectly still. Afraid that it might eat him, he ask the priestess, "Does this bug bite? It's not poisonous, is it? And what's up with these bugs?" If he finds out the bug bites, he tries to get it out of his pocket (without touching it). Otherwise he cups it gently in his pocket, for temporary good luck.
Figment Thursday August 17th, 2000 5:18:21 PM
"How do the Tines normally get into the city unnoticed?".
Milo Friday August 18th, 2000 4:29:28 AM
Milo sits quietly at the pond, listening to the conversation and thinking, 'hmmm extra rations... must get extra rations.' Coming out of that thought, he sits and ponders methods of entering cities undetected. "Perhaps if we were to enter in the evening..." he finally states.
K'nara Friday August 18th, 2000 6:31:23 AM
The female fighter grimaced at Lorna's personal opinion about the toughest part of the mission. "Indeed...getting IN will be hard since both Olana and Ingrge are elves...we will have to choose a disguise carefully. Any suggestions..?" K'nara glanced around at the others, mulling over her options in her head.
Dakar the Painmonger Friday August 18th, 2000 9:28:36 AM
"I dinnae like that bug that landed on ye. It's emerald hue reminds me of someone else that I'm a bit angered with at this time. Could it be possible for the little bug to be an emissary of his? If so we should grind it and sup on its marrow for a snack. Never know where prying ears might be found."
Olana Friday August 18th, 2000 10:42:08 AM
Glancing at Ingrge for a moment, Olana says "You know K'Nara has a good point. I thought all elves were banned. That's going to make it extra tough for us to get in. And what about Obsidian? Are they likely to be at the gates? I'd like to know more about what I'm up against with them."
Figment d20=12 Friday August 18th, 2000 2:07:43 PM
Hearing Dakar's words, the mage holds his finger up to his lips signaling everyone to be silent a moment. He examines the beetle closely looking for any sign that it might be magical (Int by 6). In either case he carries on the conversation by saying "So it's decided then, we abort the mission. No way we should enter that place with no chance of success...". As he says the last of it he crushes the beetle in Fluet's hand and examines the remains further as he scrapes them off his hand.
Flueterflam Friday August 18th, 2000 2:07:44 PM
"Well, so much for that. If it WAS good luck, I'm not gonna get it anymore." He glares evilly at Figment. Then, without a second thought, turns his mind towards getting in. "Maybe we can chain them up, and say we found them trying to sneak into the city. And that we were gonna take them to either the prison or Parnoth after we get a drink at the bar first." He pauses to see if anyone at all agrees with him. "Plus, the non-elves out number Olana and Ingrge. That should make it more believable that we actually could catch them." Fluet frowns as if everything he just said wouldn't work, suddenly. "But that just an idea. I'm sure there's a better way in."
Ingrge Friday August 18th, 2000 7:29:44 PM
Ingrge frowns at the thought of not having his weapons to hand as they enter the city. Not to mention being bound and helpless, and having to be open to Parnoth as the scarf would have to be removed as well to show his elven features for this to work out. At a break in the conversation Ingrge trots back over to check on the information he was waiting for.
K'nara Monday August 21st, 2000 6:05:43 AM
"Then getting into Emerald City will require that we outfit the wagons we used to transport the medicinal tea here..." K'nara said decisively, "...we can pretend to be wine merchants with barrels of stock for the various taverns. That way Ingrge and Olana shouldn't attract too much attention." The leader of the Emerald Talons chuckled. "Too bad the mercenaries of Obsidian cannot be considerate enough to wear matching outfits of luminescent clothing with "Obsidian" written all over them!" Her brief moment of levity passed. "Ah, well--we shall just have to be extra careful, is all. Let us go and make arrangements for our cover and get another good night's sleep while we can, for we'll be off in the morning for Emerald City."
Dakar the Painmonger Monday August 21st, 2000 10:07:24 AM
"Aye K'nara, I was about to suggest the same. Ye have the mind of a seasoned dwarf to ye. Amazing what women can do nowadays..."
Figment d20=17 Monday August 21st, 2000 1:40:08 PM
"Wine merchants. Hmmm....", the mage muses, "That should do fine - as I have an extensive knowledge of vintages and the fermentation process sould we be questioned (Int+cooking skill). We should look into the taylor shops here and make sure our clothes fit the profile. Shouldn't be too difficult to pull off as all traveling merchants have underlings and protection. Roles well suited for elves and warrior women in this case - er - sorry guys (looking to Ingrge and Olana). I would think that if you two stayed in the wagon with the wine we could enter the city, we could point you out to the city guard if necessary, and proceed onto this... Stinking Hole place without molestation from the authorities."... After a moment or two of thought the mage continues "Actually, we could identify Taverns in the same area as the Stinking Hole - those with perhaps a better reputation - and not associated with the Tines as our destinations. Then we could further divert the guard as the cargo would be more appropriate for these places, as I'm sure a dive like the Stinking Hole specializes in brews of cheaper origin."
Olana Monday August 21st, 2000 1:40:09 PM
"Well I'd rather go in there as an underling, than tied up like a prisoner," announces the elf. "What do 'underlings' wear, do you think?"
DM Jan (The Evening Draws In) Monday August 21st, 2000 1:40:10 PM
The poor, innocent(or is it?) beetle is squished. As Figment examines the remains, the creature - while appearing to be of non-magical origin, seems to have some strange aura about it, which fades rapidly after the squishing. Lorna nods as the ideas are put forward. "A merchant guise would be good - you'd certainly be treated with more respect. As for another tavern, hmm... let me think. On the next street is an inn called The Green Glass. It's not top notch - but it's definitely of a better class than the Stinking Hole." Back at the wizard's shack, which - for some weird and inexplicable reason - is now full of blue smoke, Ingrge is greeted by the old wizard who explains a little more about the staff, in between bouts of hearty coughing. The evening draws in, and pretty lights appear in the trees. Inside the Inn - a band starts playing, and the smell of food wafts to the outside.
Figment Monday August 21st, 2000 5:04:13 PM
Upon examining the beetle the mage looks up with a great deal of concern. He looks around quickly scanning for more bugs, hoping none are close at hand. If all is clear he continues. "We have a problem. This thing had a magic aura about it. I fear we may have been compromised. I think we should not speak of the mission again until we know for sure. And most DEFINITELY do not speak of this discovery of ours because if we can conceal that we know we are being spied on we can give them false information. I would suggest that when we talk we refer to our destination as Plateau City, back the way we came. And that we write our communiques about this 'trip' of ours and then destroy the evidence when done.". The mage attempts to remember back to exactly when the bug landed and could have possibly provided someone survelance. He also tries to locate another bug and catch it for further study. If he can capture one he casts detect magic on it.
Dakar the Painmonger Monday August 21st, 2000 5:20:17 PM
Dakar mumbles under his breath, "And that's why ye should always listen to a dwarf. We're a paranoid lot we are."
Ingrge Monday August 21st, 2000 9:11:41 PM
Returning as the idea about wine merchants is brought up, Ingrge says, why don't we just have a few empty fake barrels in the middle of the others that if needed Olanna and I can disappear into if needed. That way it might be possible to disavow having any knowledge of us if necessary and keep the mission alive.
Ingrge Monday August 21st, 2000 9:16:32 PM
Just as he finishes talking, Figment pops out with his discovery about the bug. "Or not," Ingrge says to his previously suggested plan.
Flueterflam Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 12:34:51 AM
"You guys are too paranoid." With that, Fluet proceeds towards the tavern that he hears music coming from. He plays along/alternately with the other bard. And later in the night, exchanges stories with the bard.
Milo Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 1:15:28 AM
To K'nara and Olana, "I should like to play the role of underling... seems natural to most that a halfling should serve, and folks seem to loosen their tongues a bit more around the hired help... If you catch my meaning." The halfling winks, and then follows Fleuterflam into the tavern with the music, and orders a stout pint...
Olana Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 11:39:56 AM
Olana looks at Figment in horror. "You think that thing might have been listening??" With a frown, and nodding at Dakar she decides to flatten every beetle she sees. Then, whispering to Milo she says, "Maybe we can all be Fig's servants," with a chuckle, while pondering over the hiding-in-the-barrel idea. She follows the others inside, but soon goes to her bed - feeling tired for some reason.
DM Jan (G'Night and Good Morning) Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 12:45:09 PM
Despite the abundance of pondlife - there are no more beetles to be found. Instead, the frog croaks begin in earnest, and fireflies begin to float eerily over the water. Inside, the beer and wine flow and tonight's food consists of roast venison, sauteed vegetables, leek soup with dumplings and fruit tarts. Fluet is welcomed on stage to jam with the band. As the evening comes to a close, the bands final song is one that seems to induce calm over the entire tavern. One of the players offers to teach it Fluet. "Play this on a flute," he whispers, "and it can put little ones to sleep, or calm the enraged. Wanna trade songs?" Lorna asks K'Nara her plans and says she will help in the morning if need be. She retires fairly early. Everyone has another peaceful night - especially those who listened to the band's final song. The morning arrives with the sharp cawing of a solitary raven, perched on top of the carved toad outside the tavern.
Figment Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 4:02:40 PM
The mage sighs in relief as no more 'eavesdroppers' are apparent. As the night moves on he loosens up a bit and really enjoys the food and entertainment - making sure to tell Fluet how well he think he performed. As the morning calls, the mage goes and rides Jux making sure he knows how much he desires his company. He finds Lorna and asks her if she knows about the stables in the Emerald City and if she feels it wise to bring Jux along or better to leave him with the elves. Regardless the answer he finishes preparations for departure.
Shadrach Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 5:49:01 PM
Shad, who'd been uncharacteristically quiet, maybe from all the staring elves, woke feeling paranoid. After a brief trip outside, he knocked on Dakar's door. "There's a bird watching me from the roof. I feel like all the animals are spies. I've never seen so many animals in one place in my life!"
Flueterflam Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 8:59:27 PM
Fluet smiles. "Sure, let's," in response to the player who offers. "By the way, what's the name of this song?" After the last song, the bard chats with the band, picking up some elven pointers. He sleeps well, through any cawing. After waking up, Fluet wanders the area, looking for anything interesting, and waiting for the others to wake up.
Ingrge d20=18 Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 8:59:28 PM
Having spent most of the night inside a large bottle of dwarven liquor, Ingrge does not look at all well and has a look on his face even more sour and surly than normal. At the "good mornings" from his compatriots and others in the Inn he scowls and growls but says not a word. at sighting the black bird he rapidly throws the empty bottle in his hand at it and heads outside. (hits AC -1)
Milo Tuesday August 22nd, 2000 11:24:25 PM
Wearing his regular traveling clothes, Milo cheerily whistles about the tavern as he goes about collecting his belongings. After having breakfast, the halfing sits with his feet crossed and his wide brimmed straw hat perched atop his head, and continues to whistle the last tune from the evening before. He smiles and waves at any who pass his way as he waits patiently for the rest of the group to assemble.
K'nara d20-1=11 Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 6:34:46 AM
(OOC: the roll is a Disguise skill check--I should have added the one, not subtracted...however, K'nara still [barely!] makes the Disguise check.) K'nara gave Milo 80gp. "Take this and get two weeks' worth of iron rations for eight people." she told the halfling. "Hopefully this should help out with whatever is effecting ration quantities on the way to Emerald City." Then the bladesinger went on to Shadrach and Flueterflam, helping them with their clothing and appearance, altering their apparel so that they appeared to be merchants. "You two..." she said as she finished twisting a turban around Shad's head, "...are partners in a venture to supply spirits to such places as the Green Glass, the Heated Cross, and the like...Shad should be referred to as the one with the money, while you, Fluet, should be the 'talker' of the pair. Figment will be referred to as your consultant--if we HAVE to get that detailed--and the rest of us are your mercenary escorts to the delivery sites. Got that?" Her hazel eyes bored into each one of them as they answered. "Good--Milo can be Fluet's driver, and Olana can chauffeur Shad. The rest of us ride as usual. Any questions..?"
Flueterflam Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 10:52:38 AM
Rubbing his hands together, and grinning evilly, "The 'talker', heh?"
Figment Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 1:11:05 PM
smiles at K'Nara's plan. "Well done. I think it might actually work.". Not only does the mage inquire about the stables and treatment of mounts in their destination, but he mentions the bug incident to the leader and the old cleric to see if they have heard of any type of 'bugging' going on - or are magic aura's common among large green beetles. He also describes the beetle to them and asks if such a species is common in the area.
DM Jan (G'Night and Good Morning) Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 1:11:06 PM
Olana wakes up groggily. When she looks in the mirror -she looks pale as though she drank too much the night before, although she cannot remember doing so. Dunking her head in cold water revives her somewhat, and she joins the others. Nodding at K'Naras suggestion she follows Figment to the stables to get the wagons and horses ready.
DM Jan (Preparations) Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 1:53:47 PM
Fluet discovers the name of the song is 'Khausta Taware'. Lorna informs Figment that the stables in the Emerald City are very good. "You might have to get out of there in a hurry though," she adds. "If you can get to the stables - all well and good, but if you can't.... it's up to you of course. You might make a faster getaway on your own horse." As for the beetle - the species he describes is known to those whom he asks. The cleric has seen beetles like it in the trees, and around the pond, but as for a magic aura - everyone seems puzzled. "Sounds like a wizard's work to me," mutters the cleric, hobbling off with much tut -tutting. After having had a bottle thrown at it - the raven flaps off, settling on the roof, and quarks indignantly at everything that moves below. But - as Milo whistles - it stops, hops down to a branch near the halfling and regards him silently with beady eyes. It is soon joined by two sparrows. After K'Nara's skilled administrations - Shad and Fluet are soon looking like the traveling merchants they're supposed to be - and at the stables, Olana is able to ready the wagons and horses with help from the local stablehands. It is approaching mid-morning, and the town is going about it's business as usual.
Figment Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 4:25:03 PM
looks around in some of the shops and acquires the riding garb of a "consultant" and joins the others in the stables - ready to go. Noting all the animals in the area, and still concerned over the bug thing, the mage cheerfully says "So, my friends, shall we make our way to Plateau City as planned?".
Milo Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 5:51:55 PM
Noticing the birds, Milo continues his whistling, all the while accepting the money from K'nara, and striking off to purchase provisions for the group's trip. As he returns, laden with bags of rations, he is still whistling. He stops for a moment to speak to the birds... "What with my whistling... nobody will suspect that I'm really listening..." Then continuing on with a livelier tune, Milo deposits the food in the wagons, distributing half to each. Then after stowing his pack beneath the seat, he climbs up and awaits departure.
Ingrge Wednesday August 23rd, 2000 7:36:56 PM
Nodding to K'narra, then wishing he hadn't, Ingrge strolls off to get Moonshadow ready and comes back around front when done. Signaling for Moonshadow to remain where he was, Ingrge walks over to Fluet and Figment and with a short sketchy bow says, " Well we are about ready the wagons should be loaded and around front soon, shorty's gone off to get some more rations and the others are packing up. On our way to P-City are there any procedures you would like us to keep in mind?"
K'nara Thursday August 24th, 2000 6:44:31 AM
The leader of the Talons rubbed her chin for a moment as she contemplated, then she nodded. "First of all, we are going to *Emerald* City--the capitol of the Emerald Kingdom..." she reminded the erroneous Figment and Ingrge, humor dancing in her eyes, "...second of all--future battle strategy will be for all us fighter-types to make sure that Figment, Shadrach and--to a lesser extent--Ingrge and Dakar are protected from possible damage. Figment and Ingrge because of their wizardly capabilities, and Shad and Dakar because of the fact that they are priests. Because of that, I'd prefer that you four become, um...'battle buddies,' if you will. Figment and Dakar will make it a point to stay near each other in a battle, while Shadrach and Ingrge do likewise. You pair up and watch each others' back during a battle. Olana, you keep an eye out for Milo, and I'll cover Fluet. Even though we have these 'battle buddies', EVERYone's priorities will be to make sure that the less-armored are assisted by those of us with the better protection and/or fighting skills. Figment and Shadrach are top priorities because of that and their spellcasting abilities...and, as I said, Ingrge and Dakar are also to be protected for those same reasons. You all look out for them AND your specific battle buddies...and *I* will make it a point to look out for ALL of you." As she finished her speech, K'nara completed her check of Poki, and then swung up into the saddle. "If we have everything here now--I think we can get going--to Emerald City!"
Figment Thursday August 24th, 2000 12:50:26 PM
The mage cringes when the warrior women mentions their real destination again. He motions to her to come closer and he whispers in her ear "K'Nara, we know we are going to the Emerald City. We said Plateau City to throw off any eavesdropping bugs - which I am now pretty sure this place is infested with. I would recommend we not state our destination as there may be ambushes waiting for us on the road ahead as a result of our giving information away. You may think this a bit paranoid - and it may be - but I'd rather be safe than sorry.".
Olana Thursday August 24th, 2000 12:50:27 PM
"Hang on," says Olana. "We just need to get some barrels, and then we're ready!" before scurrying off, sharpish.
DM Jan (Departure) Thursday August 24th, 2000 12:50:28 PM
As soon as Milo moves to go on his errand, the birds flap off into the trees, startled. Olana manages to acquire 10 wine barrels. However - the elves are only able to supply 3 that are full of wine. 5 are filled with water, and two are empty. Some of the locals help with the loading up. Lorna arrives to wish the party well, and give them her blessing. The air appears to be beetle-free, and one of the gate men offers Ingrge directions. "Down there -" he said, leaning on his spear and pointing out of the gate. "Take the left fork that you can see. After a day's journey - you'll reach the main road into the City. Head south and you should be there by the following evening. And make sure you hide your ears." The road beckons, and the sky begins to cloud over a little.
Shadrach Thursday August 24th, 2000 2:10:05 PM
Shad hid inside the inn as much as he could, glowering out the windows at the birds. He once briefly muttered as Milo began to increase the bird flock following him, "He's consorting with spies!" Later, as K'nara decided to 'dress' him, Shad reminded her of his chain mail's magical property. The chain mail of blending could look like any normal clothes he wanted. But, if she insisted they avoid magical disguises, he relented, but preferred keeping his chain mail on, possibly disguised as long underwear. At being made Ingrge's battle buddy, Shad rolled his eyes. "Oh, right, following HIM won't get me into any trouble!"
Dakar the painmonger Thursday August 24th, 2000 2:31:03 PM
Dakar outright laughs at K'nara's suggestions. "Perhaps ye dinnae understand the dwarven way of fighting, or the path of the vindicator itself. First of all, ye have insulted my honor by suggesting I need to buddy with anyone in combat. Were we not close comrades in arms I would challenge ye to a duel for that suggestion alone. Secondly, for me to buddy up with anyone is suicide for them. I am a vindicator lass, a battle-rager of Domi. Do ye understand the blood-rage? When combat sings through my veins I dinnae cease til all are felled, putting that before all else. Asking me to fight beside a wizard is like asking ye to try and fight me with both hands beside your back. And dinnae forget, combat has been my life since your mother was a wee child. The rest of ye follow her suggestions as ye wish, but I simply canna."
Figment Thursday August 24th, 2000 6:43:20 PM
The mage smiles as Dakar educates K'Nara on the ways of a vindicator. He bows to Dakar and says with respect. "My good warrior, I would never be one to impose myself upon you in a way that would infringe upon your honour. Please allow me to respectfully request we continue to ponder the most effective strategy. I do think it a wise battle theory to provide as much protection for the mages and give deferrence to the clerics when it comes to our choice in direct combat. They can provide backup as necessary and heal to keep the fighters in front up and going. But, of course, I would leave the details of such a plan to you, K'Nara, as you are by far the most capable in combat strategy details and implementation. Things that look good on paper are merely a beginning point. Experience is much more important in the details. Perhaps you can ask your fighting mentor his opinions on the issue as well - if he's willing?"
Ingrge Thursday August 24th, 2000 8:15:53 PM
At Shad's comment, Ingrge truns and gives him a slight grin and a shrug and mumbles something about this being as good a day to die as any. Grinning at Shad again he attends to the wagon and the barrels. While the others get ready and wait for Milo's return, Ingrge has the elves leave one of the barrels of wine untouched and with the empty barrels and the water barrels he helps them equally distributes the water and then adds just enough wine to fill the others, giving them some color and flavor. Leaving two full of water for drinking he loads the 5 watered wine barrels on the wagon leaving the 2 plain waters and the good wine barrel as the last to be loaded placing a single chalk x on the water barrels and a double on on the wine, he steps down and surveys his handy work.
Milo Friday August 25th, 2000 10:30:59 AM
Glancing Olana's direction at the battle buddy assignment, Milo stifles a grin, "Actually, I like the fact that someone is gonna keep a look out for me... I can use all the help I can get..." The halfling turns and winks at Olana, "Especially from one as cute as her... Oh yeah, and if Dakar is too busy killin' things, I'll look out for ya Figment..." The halfling grins.
Olana Friday August 25th, 2000 10:56:14 AM
Olana tells Ingrge she thinks the barrel thing is a good idea. Then - giving Milo a wink, she hops up into the drivers seat of one of the wagons. As soon as everyone is in their places, she'll set off.
DM Jan (The Journey Begins) Friday August 25th, 2000 12:34:09 PM
It is approaching lunchtime by the time the party sets off. The town of Titania closes it's gates, which have the effect of hiding much of it's presence in the trees. The clouds thicken, and the day becomes cool and rather dull. At one point the road becomes a mere track, with the trees closing in on all sides. It looks dark and gloomy in the forest on either side. High in the trees you see and hear birds flapping and tweeting. All in all, the journey is quiet and uneventful. The party makes good time, and are a fair way along the road after the left fork. It is now twilight, and getting hard to see for those of normal vision.
Figment Friday August 25th, 2000 4:32:32 PM
The mage looks for a suitable campsite and upon finding one, dismounts and starts a fire.
Flueterflam Friday August 25th, 2000 6:00:57 PM
When they all stop to rest for the evening, Fluet asks K'nara, "Why is it that you need to protect me? Mind you, I'm not saying I mind. Granted, you're probably more capable of keeping me alive than I myself am. BUT, I was just wondering....." AFter everything is settled down, and he receives his answer, Fluet plays 'Khausta Taware', to relax everyone. After which, he himself nods off comfortably to sleep.
Ingrge Friday August 25th, 2000 9:00:41 PM
At any and all breaks Ingrge is seen with his spell book in his lap as well, talking to his staff.
Shadrach Saturday August 26th, 2000 6:13:43 PM
Shadrach went gathering wood and chattered to the birds. He told them lies about himself and his merchant caravan to Plateau City.
Olana Monday August 28th, 2000 3:20:11 PM
Olana jumps down from the wagon and helps set up camp. "Mind if I take one of the later watches?" she says, yawning.
DM Jan (The night draws in) Monday August 28th, 2000 3:26:08 PM
The party sets up camp. Shad's paranoia doesn't appear to be unfounded as everyone seems to have that 'you are being watched' feeling, although that somewhat dissipates as Fluet settles everyone with his song. Apart from the occasional owl-hoot - everything seems quiet. (( I need players to specify which watch they are taking, thankyouverymuch :) ))
K'nara Monday August 28th, 2000 5:29:30 PM
The leader of the Emerald Talons shook her head and grinned. "I do not mean to imply that anybody in this party particularly NEEDS a babysitter, people--the battle buddy system is simply a way for us, as a party, to try to make sure that everyone knows where we are and what we're doing in the midst of combat. I am hoping to avoid anything like, oh, say, for instance...one of us running ahead of the others and charging headfirst into a bunch of gnolls without the rest of the party at least KNOWing where he went..." The tall redhead coughed. "...or just how much healing such a warrior would need because of the wounds sustained. We must learn to better utilize our combat resources." At the first indications that the entourage needed to set up camp, K'nara thought for a moment and then gave out the watch assignments: "Shadrach and Ingrge first; Fluet and myself next; Milo and Olana third...and that will leave Figment and Dakar on the last watch. Now...let's set up camp...and keep an eye on those provisions..."
Ingrge Monday August 28th, 2000 7:51:54 PM
As the camp is set up, dinner is started and watches are set, Ingrge walks around almost as in a daze holding on to his staff and constantly talking to it in an arcane way.
Shadrach Monday August 28th, 2000 9:40:51 PM
After dinner, Shad watched Ingrge a while and finally asked, "Ingrge...why are you talking to your stick?"
Milo Tuesday August 29th, 2000 10:08:00 AM
Milo sits close to the fire, looking out away from camp as dinner preparations are made, "Can you feel the eyes? Its like the forest is alive and watching our every move." The diminutive rogue nods to K'nara at his watch assignment, and then sits quietly, watching the area around them intently. For a moment he fingers the hilt of his enchanted blade, as if he is considering drawing a weapon, but then places his hands firmly in his lap.
Olana Tuesday August 29th, 2000 10:25:28 AM
Sitting with the others around the fire, Olana can hardly keep her eyes open, and when Fluet plays, she goes out like a light.
DM Jan (Disturbances?) d6=2 d6=2 d6=6 d6=3 Tuesday August 29th, 2000 10:42:48 AM
All seems quiet during the black of night. The temperature is fairly cold, although usual for the time of year. Then, during the third watch, those awake hear a faint rustling sound near one of the wagons.
Figment Tuesday August 29th, 2000 4:19:13 PM
The mage rises from the fire and quickly casts invisibility on himself as he quietly moves to the area near the bushes.
OOC Note from Donna Tuesday August 29th, 2000 6:56:21 PM
I do believe that Third Watch is the responsibility of Olana and Milo. K'nara is asleep.
Ingrge Tuesday August 29th, 2000 7:18:34 PM
At Shad's question, Ingrge looks up and responds, I am teaching it a spell of course.
Milo d100=70 Tuesday August 29th, 2000 8:12:22 PM
Making as if nothing is amiss, Milo walks around the edge of the firelight, moving around the wagons... as he rounds the wagons, he activates his ring turning invisible, and then turns, and silently approaches the disturbance in the bushes.
Flueterflam Wednesday August 30th, 2000 11:33:14 AM
Although sleeping quietly for most of the night, Fluet suddenly snorts somewhat loudly in his sleep. The bard wakes himself, and dazed, he looks around the campsite. After what appears to be a look of confusion on his face, he falls back to sleep.
Olana Wednesday August 30th, 2000 11:33:15 AM
The elf rises slowly, watches Milo vanish, then moves quietly but quickly, nudging those who are asleep and pointing over to the wagon. She then creeps forward to investigate.
DM Jan (Disturbances?) Wednesday August 30th, 2000 11:49:33 AM
As the party awaken and investigate - those members gifted with infravision can spot a group of about 6 or 7 small bodies clustered together in the trees, and then two others on top of one of the wagons. There is a rustling noise coming from the wagon in question. It's a pitch black night, and as the camp starts to awaken and move about - the unknown cluster of bodies shifts it's position. There is a sharp cry. "Dannal!!"
Shadrach Wednesday August 30th, 2000 2:30:32 PM
Sleeping uncomfortably in his chain, Shad came awake with a start. He rolled up to his feet swinging his trident into a fighting position. Looking around he went to the fire to grab a brand.
K'nara Wednesday August 30th, 2000 3:43:17 PM
At the sound of the sharp cry, the female fighter immediately awakens and jumps to her feet, instinctively reaching for her sword as she does so. "What is it?" she hisses, not having the gift of infravision. "What's going on???"
Figment d20=16 Wednesday August 30th, 2000 5:16:17 PM
The mage rolls to his feet and realizes they are under attack (int). He quickly moves away from the fire and wagons into the darkness and casts invisibility on himself.
Milo Wednesday August 30th, 2000 5:57:41 PM
Sneaking into the bushes, around the disturbance, Milo gets behind the moving bushes, and then hoping to startle whatever it is into the light of the campfire, he screams his battlecry, "AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHH!!!"
Ingrge Wednesday August 30th, 2000 6:06:59 PM
Being woken during his sleep is not really what Ingrge was looking or hoping for, coming awake quickly, Ingrge assesses the situation and pointing his staff at those in the tree, says the words shade and hue and a colorful array shoots toward those in the tree. (spell color spray)
Flueterflam Thursday August 31st, 2000 12:19:14 AM
After being poked into awakeness, Fluet wakes up cranky. "What's your problem?" he hisses at no one specific. Once he realizes what is happening, he just sits, even more unhappy. For the first time in his life, Fluet seems really pissed off. "What the hell?" He looks in the direction that he's been directed (at least that's what he thinks, considering he can't see at all). He slings his bow in the mean time. Waiting for the chance to actually see whatever it is that is making such a problem.
DM Jan (Disturbances?) d6=3 2d4(3+2)=5 Thursday August 31st, 2000 11:10:03 AM
Everything seems to happen at once. Three of the small forms drop to the ground with a soft thud as Ingrge lets loose his colour spray (they're gonna be out for a while). The other three scatter away from Milo's direction as he howls his battlecry. In their panic, one of them runs smack bang into the invisible Figment, the other two run in range of the firelight. It is now that K'Nara, Fluet and Shad can see what they're up against. The two are young, elven, about Milo's height and female. Their faces are very narrow, the ears more pointed than those seen in the town of Titania. One of them seems to have a necklace of small bones around her neck. Their skin seems a little darker too, and they look a bit scruffy. One look at the mighty Shad, wielding trident and firebrand, eerily backlit by the fire and they start screaming their heads off. Atop the wagon, Olana faces two young males - one of whom is crouched - stuffing what looks like rations into a sack, the other faces her snarling, a blade glinting in the distant firelight.
Dakar the painmonger Thursday August 31st, 2000 11:28:59 AM
Dakar wakes up with a start, and hearing a chaos of noise around him, begins to strap on his armor and prepare for combat, begining (mumblingly so), to chant his battle cry.
Shadrach d20+1=20 Thursday August 31st, 2000 1:26:57 PM
Flabbergasted at the sight, Shad decided on the spot to go for a prisoner. He dropped his trident and leaped for one of the figures, yelling, "RAAAA!", falling heavily on one (AC-2, no damage but target has to squirm free).
K'nara Thursday August 31st, 2000 3:52:02 PM
Immediately the leader of the Emerald Talons took a calculated risk--she leaped over to where the three fallen forms lie and stood with her sword ready. "Strangers!" she bellowed in a booming voice. "Halt and show yourselves to us--your companions here are at my mercy!" Inwardly she hoped that the youth she saw in the faces of the diminuitive elves would result in their yielding peaceably...if these raiders called her bluff, K'nara could never in good conscience follow through with her implied threat.
K'nara d20=13 Thursday August 31st, 2000 3:53:52 PM
(OOC: this is a belated Charisma check to see if K'nara intimidates and/or scares the elvish-type raiders into cooperating with her demand...since K'nara's Charisma is 15, then this basic check probably has passed.)
Figment d20=6 Thursday August 31st, 2000 5:17:13 PM
The mage deftly avoids falling down as the elven 'foe' runs into him. Upon hearing K'Nara's pronouncement, the mage prepares to cast - but holds pending their response. If they move away he casts sleep at the group of 2.
Milo d100=99 Thursday August 31st, 2000 9:48:44 PM
Drawing his short sword, Milo follows the strange elves out of the brush, hoping that they don't hear him following. Standing quietly, he warily watches their every move.
Olana Friday September 1st, 2000 10:42:27 AM
Balanced on top of the wagon, Olana brandishes her sword in the direction of the two young males. "Don't even think about it," she hisses sharply in elven at the one with the knife. "Where are your elders?"
Dakar the painmonger Friday September 1st, 2000 11:11:58 AM
Dakar continues to strap on his armor, as it is a multiple round affari, all the while pitching and rolling his song in an attempt to invigorate himself from groggy sleep. (OOC: My email address is now dcliffor@wam.umd.edu... and I lost my copy of Dakar... Is there anyone out there who has one? Could we get one from someone? Thanks)
DM Jan (Disturbances) Friday September 1st, 2000 11:26:38 AM
Shad manages to keep hold of the little elf, although she's wriggling like an eel and shouting "Dannal! Dannal!," over and over. The other one - totally bewildered, flops down near Dakar and Fluet and starts to cry. At the sight of K'Nara near the fallen ones, the youth with the knife shouts "No!" in a light but gutteral voice. He holds up his hands, his eyes moving between K'Nara and the one yelling in Shad's grasp. At his feet, the other young male stays motionless. As for the one who bumped into Figment - she stands up, blinks and takes off into the woods, running like mad.
Shadrach Friday September 1st, 2000 1:57:19 PM
"Ow, gods bless it!" Shad squeezed the little one tightly in his arms, knowing if he eased up she'd be gone.
Figment Friday September 1st, 2000 3:25:37 PM
The mage stay motionless and waits to see what happens - still ready to cast.
Olana Friday September 1st, 2000 5:04:37 PM
Looking at the two young ones on the wagon - noting the sack, Olana offers - "I think they were trying to take food. But I could be wrong." She still keeps her eyes on that knife. "C'mon you two - get down off the wagon - lets have a look at you."
Ingrge Friday September 1st, 2000 5:43:40 PM
Seeing that the others seem to have things under control, Ingrge pats and thanks Ironbark for the well cast spell and lies back down to rest. Leaving the infiltrators to the others.
Dakar the painmonger Saturday September 2nd, 2000 2:16:06 AM
Dakar begins to cast Command, yelling "Stop" at the girl in common as he finishes strapping on his armor.
K'nara Saturday September 2nd, 2000 6:57:03 PM
The tall human woman eyed the concerned youth--obviously he led this band. She nodded to him. "ALL of your group had best stop and answer for your actions, young one...we have no wish to harm anyone, but I'll not have sneak attacks upon my people, either." K'nara's auburn head jerked in the direction of the raider who was attempting to flee. "Tell her to come back--and for ALL of those with you to come here...with their weapons in plain sight." After a pause, the leader of the Talons added in a stern voice: "NOW."
Ingrge Sunday September 3rd, 2000 2:59:34 PM
Lifting up his head and propping it on his bent arm, Ingrge looks at K'narra and with a sardonic grin says, "Must you yell, K'narra, some of us are trying to get some sleep."
Flueterflam d20=6 Sunday September 3rd, 2000 4:29:28 PM
Fluet walks over to the one elf who's crying. He holds his hand out, as a kind 'I'll pick you up' motion. He quietly speaks to her in elven, "Please get up. We were just very surprised by your actions. Please let me help you up." (made voluntary CHA roll) And as he waits for her reaction, speaks in common to Shad without turning his head, "Shad, let her go. It'll just make things harder to work out. Plus, they'll see it as an act of good will."
DM Jan (Disturbances) Monday September 4th, 2000 11:55:20 AM
At K'Nara's command, and after a glance at Olana, the two young males jump off the wagon and step into the camp near the firelight. The one with the knife, carefully replaces the blade in it's sheath. He too wears a necklace of small animal bones, his red hair is tied back in a sprouty pony tail, and he has extremely long pointed ears. With a gesture from him - the one in Shad's grasp stops wriggling. The other looks somewhat like him, but shorter. He still holds the sack in his hand. Off in the distant gloom, the runaway (another female) stops and creeps back - unaware of Figment and Milo, and peeps at the camp through the trees. Fluet manages to stop the other small female from howling, who looks up at him for a moment, then points at the armoured dwarf with wide eyes. Drawing himself up, the taller male elven youth speaks. Common is obviously his second language. "I am Dannal. We not attack. We hungry," and then - pointing at the fallen three at K'Nara's feet, he asks - "What you do to daughters of bone?"
Milo Monday September 4th, 2000 12:03:58 PM
Milo immediately relaxes, and makes his way quietly over to K'nara. Standing next to the warrior woman, the halfing whispers, "So... what know... I'd hate to let them starve."
Flueterflam Monday September 4th, 2000 4:39:27 PM
"K'nara, go easy, k?" Fluet requests. "Just remember how greatful you'd be if you were in there place." Despite his attempts succeeding with getting the elf to stop crying, he tries to help her up. "Let me help you up." He waits with patience as she lends her trust slowy (hopefully) to him.
K'nara Monday September 4th, 2000 6:13:17 PM
Once all the elflings were in place, the human bladesinger replaced her own weapon in its sheath with a flourish. "Thank you, Dannal," she said quietly, "You and your band DO look like you could use food...the result of Parnoth's policies no doubt." At the mention of the green dragon's name, K'nara made a face. "We are the Emerald Talons--I am K'nara. Since you all listened to me and didn't try to attack us it would be our pleasure to share our supplies with you." The tall redhead gestured to Milo and Olana. "You two assemble some supplies for our friends--then you can return to watch duty." Then the leader of the Talons beckoned to Shadrach and Dakar. "Look over these three who are out cold, and heal whomever may need it." Then she turned to Dannal. "They are daughters of bone, you say? I've never heard of them..."
Shadrach Monday September 4th, 2000 8:49:58 PM
Shad let go his tiny captive. He went over and checked out the unconscious forms. "Where are your parents?"
Figment Monday September 4th, 2000 10:41:38 PM
The mage releases his spell after the threat of danger is gone. He stands and looks at the assailants a moment and then says "Young ones, do you have much luck hunting? You would fare much better using that than attacking caravans. You could be killed that way. If you want I'll show you some good ways the prepare and preserve food - if you interested.".
Olana Tuesday September 5th, 2000 10:44:44 AM
The elf looks over to K'Nara. "I'm guessing, but my tribe used to have visits from such as these. They go up into the wilds of Culverwood in small groups, then return and trade what they've found. It's risky business - and I don't understand why there are no elders with them. They're nomads - prospectors." With that, she shrugs and goes back to keeping an eye on them.
DM Jan (Disturbances) Tuesday September 5th, 2000 11:29:43 AM
As soon as Shad let's go of the girl elf, she runs over to the one named Dannal and just stops short of flinging her arms around him. Instead she seems to recover some composure and brushes herself down. She then beckons to the one hiding in the trees who steps forth gingerly. Fluet helps up the other one who seems to stand there holding his hand, pointing at things, eyes like saucers. The three dropped by Ingrge's spell are still out, but when examined, look on the verge of coming round. The other young elves glance with concern in their direction before Dannal speaks. "I am Dannal, Son of Bone. This is Shendra, Daughter of Bone. These our brother and sisters. Elders not live because of bad men - like him! - and him!" he exclaims, pointing a sharp little finger at Fig and Shad. "But they wear bad clothes. They say they are 'Men who Stamp out Elven Parasite', but we know they are the 'Bad Men'." Swallowing a little and lowering his voice, he continues. "We trade on big road, but 'Bad Men' say we not trade any more." Turning to Figment, he adds "I hunt good, but little brother not shoot well with bow, and I have many mouths to feed."
Figment Tuesday September 5th, 2000 3:16:17 PM
Taken aback a bit by his comparison to evil men the mage asks the boy "Tell me about these 'bad men', lad. Perhaps they are part of this new enforcer group of the dragons. Obsdian was it? Can you tell us where they came from or where they went after your clan was attacked?". He watches the boy for his reaction.
Flueterflam d20=4 Tuesday September 5th, 2000 3:16:18 PM
(voluntary CHA, passed easy) Fluet just holds the elf's hand confused by her reaction. In elven, "Is something wrong?" The bard seems to be held in awe by her eyes, though. "My name's Flueterflam, but everyone calls me Fluet. What's yours?" As he stands there watching her, he looks just like an adolecent boy with his first girlfriend. Out of nowhere, "Do you have a boyfriend?" After asking, Fluet suddenly realizes what he said, and starts to blush profusely.
Dakar the painmonger Tuesday September 5th, 2000 4:25:05 PM
Dakar taps one of the unconscious youth to consciousness by shaking him a bit. "Unjust is what I call it... Let me finish strapping on my armor and we'll return this road to its proper owners."
Milo Tuesday September 5th, 2000 6:56:17 PM
Milo ceases to concentrate on his ring, snapping back into visibility. He snaps a quick salute at K'nara, grins, and then dashes off to the wagons in order to prepare some supplies for the elflings.
Ingrge Tuesday September 5th, 2000 8:27:24 PM
Getting back up, Ingrge says, "Oh fine, it is obvious that I am not going to get any sleep right now....." At the little elf's question about his three fallen companions, Ingrge looks over at them and states, OH, they will be fine momentarily, a bit of a headache I expect, but better that than death.
Shadrach Tuesday September 5th, 2000 10:15:23 PM
Shad looked at his clothes, which were currently designed to look like a merchant's. "These men...they killed your parents?"
K'nara Wednesday September 6th, 2000 12:48:21 AM
(OOC: I sent this, but was punted offline before it confirmed, so pardon if this is posted twice.) Upon hearing the tale of the Tribe of Bone, K'nara's face darkened. "Sounds like your typical group of human bigots." she commented disapprovingly. "Indeed--the Culverwood is for all the people to live and use, not just humans NOR just elves, but some people just don't know how to share. This group of merchants sounds like such a group." The woman warrior pondered for a moment. "Mayhap the elves of Titania were also having trouble with them--remember those two orchard farmers who were grumbling about setting their watchbirds upon someone disturbing their crop? They could either have meant these bigots...or these Sons and Daughters of Bone because of the increased amount of foraging they have to do because of them...*however*..." K'nara sighed sharply, "...we have a mission we must perform first--a friend of ours who needs our help--THAT is our priority for the moment. We can come back and help the Children of Bone after we've helped Caden Tremaine."
Olana Wednesday September 6th, 2000 10:36:15 AM
Olana asks the younger male to hand over the sack, and goes to help Milo with getting some rations together. "This doesn't bode well for us elves getting into the city, does it," she whispers. "If they're killing this far out, what will it be like at the gate?"
DM Jan (Disturbances) Wednesday September 6th, 2000 12:47:59 PM
With Shad's and Dakar's administrations, the fallen young ones come round and stumble to their feet groggily - all three are female. Disoriented, two of them join the others by the fire. The third one however, all of two feet tall, spikes of red hair sticking out at all angles, picks up a small stick and starts to growl at anyone that goes near. At Shad's and Figment's questions, Dannal tries to explain. "They tall, got heads like that," he says, pointing at Shad's natty turban. "Dark clothes of night, faces covered - they bad! And they have swords. They kill Dolal, Eldral, Zondra, and Eldar Donal - Seer of the Bones. They come from big road on horse." The elf with Fluet seems to recover from her fright as Fluet talks to her quietly in elven. After a moment, she bends down and picks up a gnarled pine cone. "Yandra," she says solemnly, handing it over. The girl Shendra - stood with Dannal wearing a bone necklace regards Olana and Milo for a moment, then K'Nara and says "They give food - we trade. We not on road now. Give them bad man's stone." Dannal seems a mite distracted however, having regained a little more confidence and hearing Ingrge's remark, is engaged in a kid's version of an elven staredown with the staff-weilding older elf.

The mage frowns at the information. "So they are striking outside the city as well. I wonder why? What is their motivation for killing the elves? Oh well, looks like we don't get to avoid the Obsidian after all."
Shadrach Wednesday September 6th, 2000 4:30:35 PM
Looking over at Olana and Inrge, Shad said softly, "You'd know better than I whether they'd be willing, you think Titania might take in some wild children? If they would, all these kids would have to do is follow our backtrack."
Flueterflam Wednesday September 6th, 2000 6:58:35 PM
"Yandra, eh?" Fluet smiles. "Well, not to sound too urgent, but morning is gonna come soon. Let's get whatever we need resolved." Fluet takes out his lute. Quietly, he begins Khausta Taware. While he's playing, but loud enough for the new elves to hear, "This song is named, 'Khausta Taware'. Remember it, for it may bind us stronger than you may think."
Ingrge Wednesday September 6th, 2000 7:08:05 PM
Looking over at Donal with his cold, still eyes, he chuckles. "Lad, I like your spirit and your moxy, but you needs learn when you are out of your depth and treading on thin ice. We have stared down and escaped from the green-scaled one's dungeon and the lady here with the sword, while she might be human, is an aknowledged Bladesinger. So sit back and relax before you pop a blood vessel. I'm not sure these, indicating the ragamuffin crew, would be happy with Titania, although they might be able to trade safely and maybe even live in the surrounding area.
Milo Wednesday September 6th, 2000 10:46:26 PM
After outfittin' the young elves with some food, Milo walks over and sits quietly by the fire. The halfling stares silently into the flames, peering as though they held the answer to all their problems.
Olana Thursday September 7th, 2000 11:11:43 AM
"Ingrge's probably right," says Olana to Shad. "They'd take them in I think - but they'd have to conform with local customs, and this lot..... I dunno. Maybe if we sent them there with a letter to Lorna or something. She might be able to help."
Figment Thursday September 7th, 2000 2:04:15 PM
The mage sleeps until his watch - if there is any time left - and then rememorizes his Invisibility spell.
K'nara Thursday September 7th, 2000 2:05:34 PM
The leader of the Emerald Talons bowed--almost elflike--and accepted the trade with a straight face and serious demeanor. "I thank you, Sons and Daughters of Bone." K'nara said, adding: "And I mean what I say--we must do a favor for a friend, and then we shall return to see if we can't help you with your 'bad men'...the Emerald Talons don't like the notion of bad men trying to run the Culverwood."
Dakar the painmonger Thursday September 7th, 2000 3:08:58 PM
Dakar turns to the young ones and says "The deaths of your loved ones shall be avenged. This I swear by Domi." The anger, the rage behind is voice is clearly evident, and he begins singing a soft song to himself. He regains his composure in a moment and continues. "The green one is behind the deaths of your elders, I can tell you that for certain. Gods! The evil in this world..."
Ingrge Thursday September 7th, 2000 8:56:48 PM
looking down at Donnal, Ingrge sighs and then indicating that Donnal should sit sits down in front of him and then procedes to tell him about Parnoth, and hopefully scares the devil out of him.
Milo Friday September 8th, 2000 1:11:31 AM
Milo resumes his watch, remaining introspective throughout. Though he is alert, he seems to be working something out in his head. Like he is brewing a plan, and is following it through in its entirety in his own imagination. Over and over again.
Olana Friday September 8th, 2000 10:37:59 AM
Olana goes back to her watch after making sure everything is secure, when it comes time to sleep, she sleeps like the dead and wakes up groggily in the morning.
Dakar the painmonger Friday September 8th, 2000 12:29:30 PM
Dakar strips off his armor but leaves it close at hand should he need to retrieve it. He sleeps more lightly than usual, as the emotions coursing through his blood are not conducive to a good night's sleep.
DM Jan (Good Morning!) Friday September 8th, 2000 12:52:26 PM
The rest of the night is relatively peaceful. In the morning, the small elves join the party for breakfast. High above the trees is a clear sky. Ahead - the track opens out slightly into a proper road, and it looks as though some of the foliage has been cut purposely back. Grass growing alongside the road has also been cut and trimmed. A few rabbits can be seen scampering about in the distance. A bend quite a ways down the road doesn't let anyone see it's final destination. If K'Nara examines the stone - given to her by Dannal - she will see that it is black, cut square with a beveled edge and sits nicely in her palm. If she holds it up to the light, it seems slightly translucent.
Flueterflam Friday September 8th, 2000 1:19:09 PM
"Shall we get moving?" Fluet wakes up refreshed apparently. He looks around, takes a huge breath, and stretches, before walking around while wasting time until everyone is ready to head out.
Figment d20=14 Friday September 8th, 2000 4:26:05 PM
The mage rises with the new day and takes in the full sun - having not seen it directly for a while under the trees. He prepares breakfast and shares some secrets with the young elves. "Funny", he muses to himself. "These elves are probably twice as old as I and yet are still children. I wonder what it would be like to live so long...". When he sees the rock K'Nara holds up to the light he says "That is obsidian. How interesting. May I see it for a moment?". He mage takes the stone and casts Detect Magic on it - since he is now paranoid of 'listeners' as of late.
Shadrach Friday September 8th, 2000 4:26:06 PM
Shadrach woke up tired and aching from wearing chain mail all night long. He got ready silently, feeling guilty about leaving the kids. Thinking about the futility of trying to take the kids with them, he said, "We'd better be ready to hide the pointed ears today. We might run into somebody from the city. Judging from the grass, we're close."
Milo Friday September 8th, 2000 4:49:16 PM
Milo gets up from his evening's rest, and sets about doing camp chores, fetching water, brushing horses... he even serves breakfast to everyone... apparently taking his role in their charade as a servant quite seriously. After breakfast, he works to get the wagons hitched up, and then deposits himself in his driver's seat, wide brimmed straw hat perched back on his head and a merry tune on his lips as he whistles and waits for someone to give the order to depart. He has a placid, uneducated look on his face.
