Spells All Round (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday January 15th, 2001 9:57:56 PM

Karryl greets people cheerily as she is introduced, and follows them away from the edge of Mud City. Passing on through a break in a nearby line of low trees puts the party in some farmer's harvested field.

Winnie stubborns up again when Sir Thomas questions her, pacing nervously instead of sitting. "Look, thanks for the help, but I can't tell you any more. They're too big for you to handle. Let me go or --" she sighs. "Or, turn me in. You can't help me with this." The skinny woman looks tired.

The priestess holds out a hand for Trace to help her dismount, and clucks over the ill. She takes Jancis' place in the cart. Leaning over Alyndar, she places her hands on either side of his ribcage. Her dimpled smile becomes something more radiant as she prays. "Holy Lemiac, lend your strength to this Elf, that he may expell from his body the foul curse that drains it." The ruby at her throat flashes, and a ruby glow about her hands sinks slowly into Alyndar's chest. The Elf breathes out the red, and a cloud of dark spores comes with it, falling slowly to blanket his chest and Karryl's hands.

Alyndar blinks up at the surrounding faces, his colour back to normal. "I find it really cold out here today." Karryl pats his shoulder and moves on to where Qwint still sits in the cart's seat.

On the ground nearby, Jancis cradles her boy, her expression hopeful, while Ilsidur reads from the scroll. As the power of the spell builds, he can feel within himself the familiar hand of Marmathon Dur rising up to meet something . . . other. The two powers grapple for a moment, then, with an almost audible click, link, and the strength of the spell flows into Dancer's body.

After a long moment, the boy's body goes rigid, then relaxes as he begins to breath again. Jancis crows in triumph, hugging him to her. Without opening his eyes, Dancer mumbles, "It's too early to get up, Mama," and falls into a normal sleep. His mother grips Ilsidur's wrist and whispers tearful thanks.

Sly Foxx and Loke (mud city)
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 1:25:49 AM

Sly Foxx watches this Karryl of Lemiac's church, as she is doing the rites of healing. Sly turn his head to Utive, and with a smile tells her,"Ahh! my sweet little Bard, I knew you missed me.(winks at her). It seems that our little guess (pointing to Sir Thomas with Winnie) stole a magic something from somewhere in Hook City. I mistakenly though she (Winnie) had done something to Alyndar. Well, I went after her and caught her. That's where these Merc comes in to this, it seems that they wanted her also. Well, the boy was killed and you and Trace went into the city. When the Dum Dum Merc though we were at our weakest, They came back. And more or less treathen us into giving up Winnie. I told them that she was my SLAVE and would not give her up. When Ilsidur and Loc back Sir Thomas and I, they started to talk a little and made moves toward battle. But you and Big Brother Trace showed up just in time to save us, they turn tail and went back into the city. I hope that Sir Thomas will get the whole story out of her, because I don't think we have seen the last of them." Sly turns to go into his saddle bags to get Luke some food for Luke. Then bring his head up again, and tells Uteva,"Hey! Beautiful! Maybe you can get the whole story out of her. You know woman to woman?".

Sir Thomas
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 9:57:48 AM

Sir Thomas sighs in disappointment and drops his head to look at the ground. He thinks for a few minutes and then looks back up at Winnie. "Obviously you know the consequences of not confiding in us what you know. By your decision and words you apparently know that we are people of honor and justice and if you do not tell us we will turn you in to the proper authorities. And that will be that, and we will be on our way. HOWEVER, if you have done something wrong to save another good person you can redeem yourself by making your wrong right. People make mistakes, and they don't have to die by those mistakes. Please, tell us your story so that we can help you to right it. OR, tell us about what you are accused of so that we know what we are up against. You have no idea what challenges we are up to. We might surprise you. It is your decision, and this is your last opportunity. Please tell us so that we won't have to turn you over to an unjust authority. You realize that you will not be able to help your brother at all by being locked up and it doesn't appear that your puppet master has upheld his end of the bargain." Thomas reaches out to touch the girl on the shoulder as he pleads with her to be out with it. As he waits for her last reply, Thomas offers a silent prayer to Alemi to inspire the girl to trust them.

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 2:14:08 PM

Trace helps the lady down and then returns to his mount to circle around the camp area to keep watch. Looking back to Ilsidur, "I can't belive yall were going to have a fight without me. That would have ruined my whole week"

Lok Mufflefoot
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 4:40:16 PM

Lok watches and marvels at the miracle which Ilsidur has just performed. Taking the mother by the arm the halfling hugs her and urges her to let the boy sleep. Then coming over to Ilsidur the halfling wraps a blanket around the dwarf and assists him to a seat. "Rest friend dwarf. Nap time for you. Enough miracles for one day!"

Uteva
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 7:14:01 PM

The little bard gapes at Sly, looking suitably horrified. "You said she was your slave?" She glances over at Winnie. "And she let you live?"

Trace's comment causes her to cover her eyes and moan dramatically. "Save me from males!" Shaking her head, Teva wanders toward Sir Thomas' big rock to listen in on the captive's answer.

Ilsidur
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 8:09:04 PM

Ilsidur breathes a sigh of relief, and gives a small prayer to Marmathon Dur, that the spell worked successfully. He starts to get up, and stumbles, feeling weak on his feet. "That is definitely the strongest spell I have ever worked, even if it was from a scroll. Thanks Lok, for the blanket." He wraps himself in the blanket, shuffles over to a nearby fence and leans up against it to catch his energy back. "My lady Jancis, I am pleased that we were able to help your son. For although I cast the spell, it was really a scroll owned by the entire party. I am sure I can speak for all of us in saying that the scroll has gone to very good use. Make sure Dancer gets rest and liquids for the next couple of days, and he should be fine. Just realize that as a side effect of his return, he may be a little more affected by illness than he had in the past."

He smiles up at Trace on horseback and says, "Don't worry, I would have left one of the mercenaries for you."

After recovering some from the spell-casting, he moves over to Winnie and Sir Thomas. "Winnie, it should be obvious to you that we are a group that can take care of ourselves. We just helped a lady recover her son from the realms of the dead. Now we are offering to help you. Why don't you tell us what is going on, and let us decide if we think that there is anything we can do?"

Spells All Round (DM Lee-Anne)
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 9:38:52 PM

Winnie turns away from Sir Thomas, facing the city. "Just leave it," she says. Then, almost too quietly to hear, "You're nice people. I'm not."

The dimpled priestess gets Qwint on his feet, and turns, satisfied, to see Alyndar gathering his dignity back together with his clothes. "Well, that's much better, isn't it? And I see that Marmathon Dur has some kick of his own." She nods respectfully to Ilsidur. "Now, who will be handling the donation?"

Jancis picks up her boy and nods to Ilsidur, "Thank you, thank you all. She kisses her son on the temple and leaves the field.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday January 16th, 2001 10:12:46 PM

As Sly stands and Trace is on his horse. Ilsidur will accept the blanket that Loc is wrapping around him. Sly smiles and tell Big Brother Trace,"Nice to see you back and just in time. I think I was getting in trouble over a woman. Those Merc want Winnie real bad, to the point of starting a fight with us. But they are not dum, they waited to face us when we were at our weakest. I had to lie, I had to tell them that she (Winnie) was my slave." Then looking Trace in the eyes,"I don't think we have seen the last of them. I have a bad feeling that we are going to have a visit from them tonight? If we do look out for the archer in black, He loves his job." Sly pats Trace 's horse and scratchs Luke behind the ears.

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 11:46:37 AM

Speaking to Uteva, "You didnt mind that attitude when fighting the orc's did you or even when you were wrestleing around with the cult woman. You must take the good with the bad my dear." Turning to Sly, "no problem little brother I will be here with you." Moveing over to Sir Thomas and Winnie, "Well I say here, I belive we have bent over backwards to save your life and help you. Now that you need to give us some info and you do not lean one bit, I say we turn her in for the reward and go about our way."

Sir Thomas
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 4:05:59 PM

"Thank you for your input Trace. She knows the consequences of her decision and she has chosen to keep her end of the bargain honorably. Even though the other side did not. I respect that. I respect that more than I can show." Thomas bows to Winnie. "I'm sorry that we can not help you more. I think that you are a good person Winnie, better than even you know. I wish you the best. You are our prisoner until you are otherwise notified. I hold you on your honor to stay put. Trace, Uteva, may I have a word with you?" Thomas pulls his friends away from Winnie and motions for Lok and Sly to join them. "Give me only one moment please my lady and Trace will give you what you agreed on." In a muffled tone he addresses the group. "I know this girl Winnie has been nothing but trouble, but she does not deserve to be turned in to the guard any more than we should have let our friends fight the sickness on their own. I think we should give her some money and a dagger and let her go. Remember, that the only law that is truely just is Alemi's, and I believe that he would let her go under these circumstances. I will not take part in keeping her captive any longer. If she does not want our help then we can not force it upon her. And that is that in my opinion. What do each of you think?" Thomas waits for the votes to role in and then looks at Trace. "Oh, and Karryl is waiting for the agreed upon payment, if you would take care of that since you know the agreement. I believe that Alyndar keeps the group's money in the back of the cart. Thank you friend."

Uteva
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 7:11:35 PM

Teva studies Sir Thomas seriously for a moment. "It's hard to make a decision without any hard information, and I don't know this woman as well as the rest of you do. So, I'll bow to your judgement in this. Just consider whether she'd be any better off running from her hunters than if she were in custody."

"As for the priest, we may have a problem. She wants a red chit and two blue for the healing. Whatever that means. I have about 350 in gold in my pack if you need it, Trace."

Discussion in a Field (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 9:07:19 PM

Karryl waits patiently, while Alyndar and Qwint thank her for her help. The afternoon wanes toward dinnertime. And Winnie stands alone.

Ilsidur
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 9:15:41 PM

"I agree with Sir Thomas. If she doesn't want our help, we can't force ourselves on her. Turn her loose with a few gold pieces and a dagger, and hopefully her life turns out for the best. I don't want her blood on my hands, so I don't want to turn her in, reward or no reward. I'm also pretty sure we haven't seen the last of the 'Mud City Mercs' either. We need to watch our backs around Hook City. What say we head into the city and look around? I have about 4000 gp burning a hole in my pocket, so dinner is on me." Then he moves over to Qwint and Alyndar, to make them comfortable for the trip into the city, and to check for residual effects from the disease.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 9:33:03 PM

Sly tells everybody around,"Sir Thomas The girl already has my eating dagger, my be too small for defense, she may need a throwing dagger. She may have bargine with honor, but she cannot see a friend when she sees one. Then give her some gold, and let her be on her way. But I'm afraid we'll find her in those Merc hands or worst dead. I'll go along with the rest of you, my friends." Sly winks and waits for the rest of the party verdict.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 10:26:20 PM

Thomas' eyes get a sad look about them as he looks down into the mud, moves it around a little bit and then makes the decision that everyone seems to support even though no one wants its end. "I am as afraid for her as you are, but the point remains that if she refuses our help we can not help her. We will only foster our own frustration if we take that road. It is good judgement to let her live her life and accept what it gives her. We can only help her as much as she will allow. Thank you for your input."

Thomas walks over to Winnie and produces one of his own daggers and presents it to her hilt first. "Here, take this. That gives you two daggers." he then produces his own bag of money. He pulls about 20 golden lions from it and hands them to her. "If you will not accept our help, then may Alemi speed your way. Forgiveness and redemption are no farther away than you acting to deserve them. You have a good heart, trust it. And watch out for those mercenaries, their a bunch of mean ones." Thomas drops to one knee in the mud and kisses Winnie's hand. "You are free to do as you wish. I hope that you will make better choices in the future."

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday January 17th, 2001 11:05:20 PM

Trace rides up to Sir Thomas, "You and your big ol heart. I know I wasnt around very long but I wasnt gone that long either, what proof of innocence did she give. For all you know she dosnt even have a brother and you agreed quickly with her cause that arogant bounty hunter steped on your toes. But that is my opinion and as allways majority rules the roost around here. Lets say we head back to Hook City and finish bussness there, that and we need to find out what blue and red chits are. I also dont think we ought to split up again, that group thought pretty sure they could win a confrontation with yall without me and Uteva there along with two others ill." Trace returns to talk to the preist about an exchange insiede the city for gold.

Uteva
Thursday January 18th, 2001 7:18:47 PM

"I don't know what he's complaining about," Teva mutters quietly. "Sir Thomas can't help it any more than Trace can help being bloodthirsty, or than I can help being irritable after a tense afternoon." She grins at Sly. "Am I being irritable?"

Lok (Lee-Anne)
Thursday January 18th, 2001 7:41:01 PM

"Good luck, Winnie," Lok says seriously, patting the woman's arm. "I'm sure it will all work out." He wiggles his ears, hoping to cheer her up, then he joins the group at the cart. "Alyndar, what does all that green stuff taste like? Do you think it will grow if we plant it?"

Discussion in a Field (DM Lee-Anne)
Thursday January 18th, 2001 8:38:28 PM

Ilsidur finds Alyndar and Qwint to be fine, though the Elf seems tired. Irritable and stoic, respectively, they refuse to be coddled or to rest on the next leg of the trip.

Winnie looks as confused by the gold as by the kiss. She blinks at Sir Thomas, whispers, "I think today, I made my first." With a last glance at the Hooks just visible over the treebreak, she flashes a defiant grin at the rest of the group and heads northeast out of the field.

Listening to Trace, the priest's smile turns regretful. "If you've no chits, then we have a problem. The exchange of gold for chits fluctuates considerably. Will you excuse me?" Karryl leads Alyndar and Qwint a short distance away, and they have a short, quiet discussion.

Looking resigned, Alyndar returns to the cart. "It seems our healing carries a steeper price than we can afford right now. Since you've all done enough to help, Qwint and I have agreed to perform a service for Karryl's church. We'll have to leave right away." He begins pulling things out of the cart, beginning with Lok's pack. "We'll be gone for a while. You can leave a message for us at the Three Forks Inn."

Qwint joins him and helps unload a last few things. "We're going," he says. "No discussion."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday January 18th, 2001 9:24:44 PM

"WOW! Look at Sir Thomas, hes kissing her hand, Hey Trace do you think it would work for me?" Sly gets a smile on his face, turns to Uteva and gets down on one knee, then holds her hand and tell her,"No Darling Uteva, you are not irritable." Then under his breath Sly mutters,*a pain in the butt*. Gets to his feet and out loud says,"never Irritable". Then watches Alyndar walk away, Sly has a deep sadness in his heart, (almost like a comdemed man going to the hangman,) never to have a good meal again.

Sir Thomas
Friday January 19th, 2001 12:10:55 AM

Seeing the defiant grin and hearing Trace's comment, Thomas gets a little embarrassed. "YOu are right my friend, but sometimes it is better to trust your gut. I hope that my decision was wise, and all of your decision too." Thomas hears the conditions offered by Alyndar from Karryl. He immediately grows sad in his heart because it was not their decision that caused them to vouch for the debt. "I am sorry to have placed such a burden on your shoulders my friend. I will not argue with your decision though. I wish you luck and may Alemi guide your way." Thomas now kneels before Alyndar and Quint. "You are good and loyal friends. Be safe." The then rises and turns with a very concerned look and manner about him.

Ilsidur
Friday January 19th, 2001 6:34:26 PM

Ilsidur watches Winnie make her way from the gates of Hook City. "There goes a lady with real problems. I still think we could have helped her. Oh, well," he thinks to himself.

When Alyndar and Qwint come back to the wagon and describe their 'price', Ilsidur is shocked. "You mean you have to leave us? I can't believe that the church would charge such a price! We can keep sending messages to each other through the inn. I wish you the luck of Marmathon Dur in whatever the church requires you to do. I am certain that we have not seen the last of each other. And Alyndar, I really am going to miss your cooking, although not as much as some people (looking pointedly at Sly)."

Then Ilsidur makes his way over to the pile of gear taken from the cart, and slings the bag of gold over his shoulder, stumbling a bit until he corrects his balance. "We really do need to get a cart. Even if horses are silly creatures to ride, a donkey cart can be useful." His face is turning red under the weight of the coins in the bag. [OOC: 4000 gp in the sack]

Uteva
Friday January 19th, 2001 7:00:02 PM

Uteva stares down at Sly for a moment, then shakes her head. "I would complain, but I'm sure it's better if you model your manners after Sir Thomas." She laughs helplessly and pulls her friend to his feet.

Approaching the cart, she hugs Alyndar briefly and touches Qwint on the arm. "Take care of each other. We want to see you both again."

A little teary-eyed, she unties Cammaron and the third horse from the back of the cart. "Why not load your sack on this pretty lady, Ilsidur?" she asks, patting the mare on the neck. She helps pick up and load the other supplies.

Sir Thomas
Friday January 19th, 2001 9:33:11 PM

Thomas will pitch in and help the group separate their things from Alyndar's. Now that all of the commotion has died down, THomas feels as though part of him is missing. He feels as though he is no longer whole. Thomas is noticably sad.

Ilsidur
Saturday January 20th, 2001 12:17:38 AM

Ilsidur moves over beside Uteva's horse, being careful not to move to close to the rear end. "Thanks for the offer Teva. Could you help me swing it up and secure it." He and Uteva work together tying the sack of coins to the saddle.

Loc
Saturday January 20th, 2001 11:02:15 AM

As Alyndar is pulling out Loc's pack, starts to put on the groung. A pair of hand comes up and hold the pack, Alyndar looks down and there is Loc,"Thank-you, Old Friend. Stay well." Loc turns and walks off to Utiva ans Ilsidur, asking them,"Can the horse carry my small pack too?". Them turns at the departing friends and wiggles his ears to make hide his heavy heart.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Saturday January 20th, 2001 11:15:55 AM

Sly take his backpack and rolls up his sleeping bags. The turns to Alyndar, trys to say sometning, but unable to. Start to turn away, but meet Alyndar eyes and ask"Do you have any extra cookies?" Now turns and slowly walks away. Putting on his backpack on his back, then the bedroll on the bottom with raw hide strips and at last his shield and quilt of arrows.

Goodbyes (DM Lee-Anne)
Saturday January 20th, 2001 2:31:21 PM

Alyndar sighs, and fetches the cookie jar. "I'll miss you youngsters. But Qwint and I are the right people to take care of this problem." He digs out the last handful of cookies and passes them to Sly. "I'm sure you know what to do with these, son." Climbing onto the cart, he and Qwint give a last wave and cut southwest across the field, toward the Trade Road.

Karryl rejoins the group, dimples in place. "That worked out well, didn't it? I should return to the temple right away. Will you be joining me?" She mounts her pony with the help of Sir Thomas' big rock, and turns it to face Mud City.

Sir Thomas
Saturday January 20th, 2001 11:19:48 PM

"Thank you for your help kind lady. I hope that you understand that we are good people and didn't mean to trick you in any way. We just haven't been introduced to the chit monetary system. I apologize for the misunderstanding." With that Sir Thomas' heart becomes too heavy to bear and he must seek help from his guide, his father, his master, and god . . . Alemi. "I must take a few minutes to pray my friends. This is inevitable. My heart is heavy and I must consult Alemi. I will not be able to finish the day if I do not seek this help." Thomas drops to both knees despite the muddy environment. He then prays to Alemi inquiring as to the extent of his sadness and how to find closure on the feelings. He only vaguely understands that there is actually a part of him missing and that this prayer is a call to that missing part. His search is has no conclusion when he rises from the prayer, but he knows that Alemi does not often work directly in the Wold. He knows that the answer will present itself when the time has come to do so. The prayer was a wise choice; the only blatently wise choice he has made recently. (Thomas is calling his mount, attained at 5th level.)

Sly Foxx ans Luke
Sunday January 21st, 2001 10:51:39 AM

Sly watches and wonders why his friends and companions have to either die or just leave? *I don't understand. * Then the idea hits him, just like his mother told him (along time ago) 'Everything come to an end. Then you go on to a new ones'. Sly Turns to Loc and ask him if he want a cookie.

Loc
Sunday January 21st, 2001 11:02:27 AM

The halfling taken by suprise, turns around(with one ear twiching)looks at Sly. With a small hand extending to pick a cookie. Loc ask,"your sharing a cookie with me? Or a better question, your sharing a cookie with any one?" Loc and Sly looks at each other then laugh. They both walk towards Hook City, munching on Cookies.

Ilsidur
Sunday January 21st, 2001 5:01:06 PM

Ilsidur moves over to Sir Thomas, as the young paladin is climbing to his feet. "Young Sir, cheer up. It is your calm demeanour that helps keep our group together. I'm sure there are more interesting and exciting adventures in our future together. In fact, I am counting on it." Then he moves over to follow the priestess's horse into the city.

Trace and Radiant
Monday January 22nd, 2001 8:05:48 AM

Well Uteva, you didnt mind my blood thirsty ways when we were fighting the orcs or that cult member had you pinned." Trace sits upon his horse waiting for the others for their next course of action.

Uteva
Monday January 22nd, 2001 12:38:51 PM

Teva leads the mare back toward Hook City, walking beside Trace's horse. "I did appreciate it, Trace. I still do. In fact, I'm working it into a song." She tips her head back to look up at him, wrinkling her nose. "Teasing people is almost my duty as a bard. If you'd like me to stop -- actually, I don't think I can. But don't worry. Getting whalloped by the teasee is a professional hazard."

At the Gate, Take 2 (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday January 22nd, 2001 1:40:57 PM

The priest smiles gently. "Sir Thomas, there is no need to apologize. Your friends fit my need so well that I'm sure Lemiac intended for us to meet."

Although Mud City remains raucous and chaotic, the character of the line-up at this hour has changed. The farmers and laborers returning home to supper carry few belongings, and the line moves more quickly. Karryl invites you all to attend services at her temple, then bypasses the line to head into the city.

At the gate, after some fussing with her memory stones, the pleasant woman issues a new pass card to the party. Since you have no local currency, she tells you that you have two days to pay the administrative fee of one white chit at any of the city offices. She directs you toward the bath house near the Customs station. "The baths are complimentary for visitors. Please avail yourselves of the facilities. Welcome to Hook City, and may you profit from your stay."

The bathouse has separate sections for men and women. Outside, grooms wait to wash down horses and wagons.

Ilsidur
Monday January 22nd, 2001 6:17:08 PM

Ilsidur hustles to catch up with the priest on her pony. "I am sorry that you had to take our friends for your task. Although we have only known each other for a short time, we have become quite a close group, and I'm sure the rest of us will all miss the two of them. I hope we can all meet again. And I want to formally thank you for helping them. Although everyone assured us that the 'green breath' was not a big deal, it was able to defeat Sir Thomas' healing ability."

As they move into the city, Ilsidur addresses the priestess again, "I'm sure you can tell, we are not from these parts. What can you tell us about Hook City? How does this 'chit' money system work? Can we convert our gold into 'chits' if we want or need to buy something? Is there anything that we need to worry about doing or not doing in Hook City? While waiting in line, a bounty hunter attacked a fugitive, and accidentally ended up killing an innocent young boy, and the city guards did nothing to stop it? Luckily, we were able to use a scroll to bring him back to the world of the living, but the bounty hunter's actions certainly wouldn't be something I would expect to see inside or outside of a civilized city. What is going on with that?"

Loc
Monday January 22nd, 2001 7:17:26 PM

Loc walking along side Sly and happily munching on cookies. Sir Thomas stop the both of them and points to the bathhouse. "We clean ourselves here." Loc look around, takes a good look at himself and smell his arm pit. Then tell Sir Thomas "Nah, I had a bath a month or so ago."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday January 22nd, 2001 7:45:56 PM

After stoping at the bathhouse and after hearing the halflings (Loc) comment. Sly and Ilsidur look at each other, then pick up Loc by the arm pits and carry him inside the bathhouse. Sly telling Loc, "We all take a bath, even the dog." Luke looks very sad as he follows Sly.

Sir Thomas
Monday January 22nd, 2001 8:31:11 PM

Thomas thanks Ilsidur for his encouraging words, even though he instantaneously felt better after putting out his call. He walks with the group into the city and is thoroughly displeased with the fact that their money means nothing and that they owe a chit. He says nothing about his feelings, but wonders how they are going to raise a chit. They don't even know what a chit is. Thomas takes a big sigh and enters the bath house with a chuckle at the antics of his friends Lok and Sly. The bath is like a dream come true. Thomas shaves and washes his clothes and puts on his dry set. For the rest of the evening. He rejoins the party after the pleasure.

Trace and Radiant
Monday January 22nd, 2001 9:18:17 PM

Trace rides back up next to Uteva and swats her on the bum with the flat of his sword, "Well then just as long as it is a tease, may be you can tease me some more over some blue mountain wine if they have any here. But first I am going to take a bath and freshen up a bit. Trace takes off his armor and loads it upon his horse, he will go out on the town in just his regular clothes tonight. Dressed in black pants and black vest with a white under shirt armed only with an assortment of daggers Trace looks for an Inn to enjoy the evening.

Uteva
Tuesday January 23rd, 2001 1:16:36 PM

"You're on, Trace!" Teva says, rubbing her bottom. She hurries through her bath and waits outside for the others, dressed in clean clothes.

When Sly emerges, she grabs his arm and drags him toward the Customs station. "Wait until you see this, Sly. I bet these people would calmly expect the gods to submit to inspection." By now familiar with the routine, she confidently lays all her magic on the table.

Back Step to Karryl (DM Lee-Anne)
Tuesday January 23rd, 2001 1:17:45 PM

Before she leaves, Karryl answers some of Ilsidur's questions.

"The coastal plant that causes Fallon's Breath is magical. Even though the illness itself is mild, it defeats simpler magical healing. Some money changers will accept foreign coin, but its value fluctuates wildly. Hook City itself has firm and just laws, and your patron can be held accountable if you break them. Outside the city, though," the priest shakes her head. "The law doesn't extend past the Wall of Tears. The bounty hunter would answer only to his own conscience for the killing."

"For the rest, ask at Customs for an information pamphlet. I have to prepare for evening services." Karryl rides through the inner gates, leaving the party behind.

Customs and Questions (DM Lee-Anne)
Tuesday January 23rd, 2001 1:18:38 PM

"Welcome to Hook City. Have you any magic to declare?" The Customs agents repeat their well-rehearsed dance, and soon all of the party's magical goods are on the table, glowing in a wide array of colours. One guard, using a detection rod to sweep the packages loaded on the mare, locates a small, leather-wrapped packet inside a sack of horse feed. He adds it to the table, where it glows violet-indigo.

The coiffed agent hands Ilsidur a small folded pamphlet when asked. His partner assesses the group's goods at a value of 10 green chits, less 3 orange and 2 white. She repeats the instruction that Sieur Alphais must confirm their employment within 20 days.

The plumed guard approaches the party grouped around the Customs station. "A moment of your time, if I may." He sketches a quick salute. "Captain Effram of the Northook Guard. I have some questions about the wanted criminal, Winnie Hookhand. I have reason to believe that you have recently been in contact with her. What is your relationship with the alleged criminal? Do you know her whereabouts? We offer a reward of three red chits for information leading to her capture." His manner is polite, and he gives no indication that he saw several of the group tussling with Winnie only hours before.

Ilsidur (Lee-Anne)
Tuesday January 23rd, 2001 1:21:22 PM

After his bath, Ilsidur sets a few potions and scrolls on the Customs table and skims through the folded pamphlet. He passes it on to Sir Thomas.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday January 23rd, 2001 8:42:08 PM

Thomas quickly skims the pamphlet that Ilsidur handed him. "Quite a history." He comments right before he thinks *for inconveniencing people.* But he holds his tongue on the second part to save face. The comment sounds a lot like a compliment. THomas passes the brochure on to Trace when he finishes. He places nothing on the table since he owns nothing magical to his knowledge. When the wardens look at him he shrugs and says, "I don't believe that I have anything magical." He then allows them to sweep him if they want.

He replys politely to the plumed captain Effraim. "Hello good sir. I am Sir Thomas Hurley. Yes, we encountered her, but were not interested in the reward. The girl has a good heart, so we did not detain her. That is all that we know of her and her whereabouts."

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday January 23rd, 2001 11:16:13 PM

Trace continues to look for a nearby inn to relax for the evening while petting Radiant and feeding him some dried beef.

Loc
Wednesday January 24th, 2001 11:13:13 AM

After being torture and looking good in his clean clothes. Loc walks outside and to the table. He puts his juggling silver balls, his two magic daggers and a potion. And waits to be taxed. Turn to Sly and Ilssdure and tells them in a sour tone," I thought you were my friends. that bath hurt's, and that shave was too close, ect ect ect." Mumbling as he walks away to join the others."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday January 24th, 2001 11:36:26 AM

Sly smiles at Loc antics, winks at Ilsidur. "I think we did a good job, but the hardest job was to give him that shave and hair cut. Then it was Sly turn to place his magic items on the table. He put the shield, the arrows, the Traveling Spellboook, the bedroll, the Scroll case (2 scroll in side) and the potions. "oops! " said Sly" I almost forgot." Sly turns and wispers a word, return to the table with a suit of chain mail and a pair of boots, putting them with the other stuff. When his turn was up, Sly pick up his equipment and went to stand next to Trace and ask "My! MY! don't we look nice, Big Brother. Where were you when we had to shave Loc? We could have used the help."

Uteva
Wednesday January 24th, 2001 12:23:01 PM

The little bard smiles politely at the guard captain as she gathers up her gear. "None of us had met her before this afternoon, Captain. Now if you'll excuse us, we're tired and hungry."

Teva takes the mare's reins and leads her toward the inner gates. "Shall we stop at the first inn we find, or would you boys rather check out Maurice's uncle's place? According to the directions we were given, it's across the river, on the west side of Southook." Teva pulls out the map to show it to the others.

Customs and Questions (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday January 24th, 2001 12:33:50 PM

Once everyone has repacked their gear, the small rectangular packet remains on the table, glowing faintly violet. The customs woman says, "If you would kindly remove all your goods, we have other visitors to process." She gestures toward a wealthy older couple impatiently awaiting their turn.

Captain Effram studies the group briefly. "Very well, thank you for your assistance in this matter." He nods politely and steps out of the way, allowing the party to proceed into the city. He approaches the Customs man and holds a low-voiced conversation.

There are no inns visible from here. The Marble Causeway beckons beyond the gate.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday January 24th, 2001 10:21:32 PM

Thomas grabs the package and returns it to its rightful owner. He smiles at the custom man and replies, "thank you." To the group he states his opinion as they enter the city. "I think we should make haste to Maurice's uncle's place. That's why we're here in the first place and I think we have piddled enough for one day. But I will do whatever the vote brings about for a decision." Thomas scans the view of the city. "It sure is magnificent you guys." HE is awestruck at the beauty, cleanliness, and all around splendor of the city.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday January 25th, 2001 1:50:51 AM

Sly walk to the rest of the party and bends down to put on his special boots, when the customs woman brought their attention to the package on the table. "OH! OH! I think that we are in trouble already." When Sir Thomas returns the package to it's owner and returns to the party. Sly says" I'm with you Sir Thomas, but I do smell a rat?"

Loc
Thursday January 25th, 2001 1:58:44 AM

"Yes, lets all go to Maurice's Uncle place, I need a rest. Come on Luke, your better company than your master, mumble grumble. Tell me, dag, Do Elves always carry soap?" Loc walks behind Uteva.

Ilsidur (Lee)
Thursday January 25th, 2001 10:53:41 AM

The priest nods his agreement. "The Frosted Glass, then. Sir Thomas, I don't recognize that package. Is it something of Alyndar's maybe?"

Uteva
Thursday January 25th, 2001 11:01:20 AM

"Lok, I have to admit, I prefer you smelling of soap than the other. Otherwise, I wouldn't let you walk so close. If you'd like to get back at Sly, just delay us so that he has to wait longer for his supper!" She grins at the halfling.

"I don't recognize that item either, Sir Thomas. And the city is much grander than I remember it." Teva stares ahead at the spectacle of the Bridge.

Left Holding the Bag (DM Lee-Anne)
Thursday January 25th, 2001 11:33:50 AM

Sir Thomas is left holding the bag when no one admits ownership of the unfamiliar item. The wealthy couple step up to the Customs table and begin laying out their jewelry.

As the group makes its way down the wide boulevard of the Marble Causeway, each building appears more opulent than the last. The statues that line the road feature gods, heroes, monsters, and an unusually high proportion of mages. They are a bit larger-than-life, but otherwise life-like.

In the transition from Northook to Labor Town, the architecture scales down from extravagant to merely well-to-do. The locals appear healthy and happy, and there is no sign of poverty.

Ahead, the tower of the Stairs rises from the center of the causeway to meet the Bridge far above. From this close, the complex tangle of cables that suspend the Bridge from the Hooks is clearly visible.

Dwarfed by the width of the river and huge structure of the Bridge above, several tiny barge-like ferries cross the water between the north shore where you stand, and Southook beyond .

Sir Thomas
Thursday January 25th, 2001 9:25:30 PM

"I don't think it is Alyndar's because he wasn't around to put it on the customs table. Are you guys sure none of you put THIS bag on the table? If not I'll go back and give it to the customs people because it is obviously not ours if no one recognizes it." Thomas holds the bag high for the group to see and inspects it as he walks to see if he recognizes any distinguishing characteristics. The scenery is all but lost to Thomas as his concern grows for the arrival of the seemingly errant object.

Trace and Radiant
Thursday January 25th, 2001 11:02:44 PM

"Hey Sir Thomas, dont even mess with it, just give it to the customs people and tell them that it is not ours." Trace stands by to make sure that there is no problem.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday January 25th, 2001 11:27:33 PM

"Sir Thomas, I was the last to put my magic items on the table. the bag was not there at the begining, and it was not there when I removed my items."said Sly "But I did see the guard that was useing a rod on the animals, he put it on the table." Sly stop for just a moment, then Wispers to Sir Thomas,'Do you think by we finaly got to the girl Winnie? and SHE put it there? NOW what do we do?' SLY turns to Loc and Trace, "Let's get something to eat..."

Loc
Thursday January 25th, 2001 11:31:14 PM

Loc sports a nasty grin and look at Uteva. "Thank you, Teva, for the wonderful idea."

Ilsidur (by Lee-Anne)
Friday January 26th, 2001 2:16:28 PM

Ilsidur frowns. "The guard found it among the supplies, which is why I thought it might be Alyndar's. If it's Winnie's, though, I don't want anything to do with it."

Uteva
Friday January 26th, 2001 2:20:50 PM

"We could take it back right away, or wait until we pay that administrative fee." The bard shifts nervously from one foot to the other, clearly worried.

It's a Handful (DM Lee-Anne)
Friday January 26th, 2001 2:25:55 PM

The packet is hand-sized, rectangular, and about two fingers thick. It is wrapped in soft, darkly oiled leather, secured with leather laces.

Loc (Ceil)
Friday January 26th, 2001 6:10:37 PM

Loc standing there for a minute, then tells the group,"Either give it to the guard or bring it to the Temple. Now enough said, Let's us all go for a long walk." Loc snickers at Sly.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday January 26th, 2001 6:19:22 PM

Sly tells Sir Thomas,"Give it back and let's go eat." Them Sly goes down on one knee and wispers to Loc and Luke*Now Luke next time you have to go, think of Loc as a post that need waterind and then let it go." when Sly gets up on his feet again, and speaks out loud,"OH! My if you do that to Loc, He'll have to take another BATH."

Ilsidur
Friday January 26th, 2001 10:07:00 PM

Ilsidur looks at the packet in Sir Thomas' hand. "Why don't you open it, and we'll see what it is? Then we can decide what to do with it. If it was Winnie's, maybe we can return it to a magistrate, and get the price on her head removed. It will do no-one any good to have some gate guard pocket it."

Trace and Radiant
Friday January 26th, 2001 11:25:54 PM

"No, dont open it, it might be a trap of some sort. Just give that back to the guards and let them deal with whatever is in it. We have other things to deal with." Trace hops back on top of his horse and waits for everyone to start moveing and for Sir Thomas to give the package back.

Ilsidur
Sunday January 28th, 2001 12:20:27 PM

Ilsidur looks up at Trace on his horse, and says, "Come on, Trace, where's your sense of adventure? Sir Thomas, I'll open it if you want."

Sir Thomas
Sunday January 28th, 2001 5:52:04 PM

Thomas turns his body so that it is between the package and Ilsidur, kind of like a mother protecting her baby, but with less vigor, care, and emotion. "Unfortunately Ilsidur the package is not ours to investigate. It has fallen into our hands by accident. I will return it to the customs guards. I'll meet you guys at Maurice's place, what's the name of the inn again?" Thomas waits for the reply and then hurries off and a slow jog to return the package and set straight the mistake that was made.

Ilsidur
Sunday January 28th, 2001 7:56:49 PM

Ilsidur steps up in front of Sir Thomas. "What do you mean, its not ours to investigate? I'm not suggesting that we automatically keep it, but it might be the crucial piece of information that will free Winnie. Or perhaps it is someone trying to send us a message about where we can find Bear Orc. Maybe it's a stone with a magic mouth on it, to tell us something. We have no idea what it is, but my lord Marmathon Dur demands of me to explore and discover the unknown. Fate has put this in our hands. I don't think that we should turn our backs on Fate like this."

Trace and Radiant
Sunday January 28th, 2001 9:17:14 PM

Trace watches Ilsidur then kicks his horse. Makeing a forcefull move Trace and his horse pushes in between Sir Thomas and Ilsidur, "Well I do think we can tempt fate on this one. You will just have to satisfy your lord Marmathon Dur in some other way some other time. We are not going to tempt our fate on that. We have other bussness to take care of first." Trace rest his hand on his sword and makes it very apparent that there is no backing down on this.

Ilsidur
Monday January 29th, 2001 12:26:11 AM

Ilsidur is startled by Trace forcing his horse in between him and Sir Thomas, then looks up at the ranger with a sardonic grin. "Trace, am I to understand by the way that you are pushing your horse around and holding your sword hilt that you are threatening me? Over what to do with this packet? I don't believe it. You know, I may not know much about horses, but I figure the average horse only really needs one ass, and yours seems to have an extra one right about now."

Then Ilsidur turns back to Sir Thomas. "Sir Thomas, I am sorry to you if I have given any offence. I just didn't want you to rush back and return the packet before we discussed it thouroughly. I may be a bit of a fatalist, but I think that everything happens for a reason, and I for one would like to know the reason that we ended up with that packet you are carrying. I'm asking what is the harm with opening it up, and if no-one can figure a reason to keep it (and greed is not a reason), that we return it to the city magistrate. The only reason that you have given to return it is that you think it is not ours. But perhaps it is, or it is meant to be. How will we know if we don't know what it is?

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday January 29th, 2001 11:35:45 AM

Sly supprise at Trace, hurry's over to Trace's side and put his hand over Traces hand, whispers to him,"Please, Big Brother, hold your temper. I'm with you, that package is nothing but trouble. Let's not fight among our selves. Besides I'm hungry."

Uteva
Monday January 29th, 2001 12:11:08 PM

The bard grows pale under her freckles as the argument escalates. She watches their surroundings, anxious that they might attract unwanted attention.

She interrupts, her firm voice dry with humour. "Gentlemen, I suggest we decide now, or move this debate indoors. Or if you prefer, I can charge admission." Teva gestures around them at the dinnertime crowds. "Sir Thomas, the place is called the Frosted Glass."

Words on the Street (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday January 29th, 2001 12:20:19 PM

The group has, indeed begun to attract several kinds of attention. A number of folks hurry past the group, carefully not looking, clearly embarassed. A handful of small children playing ball in the nearest cross-street abandon their game and approach, staring openly at the party. A pair of Northook guards begin to amble over from the ferry docks.

A steady stream of people and goods pours from the base of the Stairs, dispersing into Northook and toward the city gates.

Sir Thomas
Monday January 29th, 2001 4:02:23 PM

Thomas is also shocked at the brash nature that Trace interrupted the conversation and the diminutive way he treated Ilsidur. "I have not been offended in anyway, I hope that the same can be said later by all. I agree with Uteva. We are attracting unwanted attention and for no reason. Let's continue toward the frosted glass while we discuss this. And lets all be civil please. there is no cause for angry words over this mistake and diference in opinion. Come on every one we'll not be the show this afternoon." Thomas begins to walk and he motions for Ilsidur to walk with him. He smiles at the growing crowd. "Good day." He states in a very good natured tone as he walks in the direction of the Frosted Glass.

In a very stately manner Thomas resumes the debate. "Ilsidur, my point of view is this. We were not given this by anyone, and as good hearted people we should hold ourselves obligated to doing the right thing. We picked this up by mistake and should feel obligated to return it in the same shape or better than it came into our possession. If, as you suggest, we have been given this without any word of that intent it could just as easily be a trap as a grace. We have not made many friends in this town and have admittedly had interaction with the criminal Winnie. On top of that we have admitted to letting her go. I'm sure this fact does not sit well with anyone. Let's not put ourselves in the position to be accused of thievery when we have done no such thing. Let's leave the package in tact and return it to where we unlawfully acquired it. That is the safe AND honest thing to do. It is the right thing to do. Believe me, I understand your curiosity, but that is a treacherous road my friend." Thomas then pauses as he continues to walk to let Ilsidur give a reply.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday January 29th, 2001 4:34:04 PM

"Come, Big Brother, give me a ride to the Frosted Glass. Please, and we all talk about this there."Sly tries to passerfy Trace. Tell the rest of the pary,"Let's get out of hare and in doors. Then we can really hash as to what to do about this."

Loc (Ceil)
Monday January 29th, 2001 4:39:53 PM

" I knew it - I knew it... That woman was nothing but trouble. That kind is always in trouble." Looking around and sniffing the air. "Troubles ahead and i will bet all of you the the Frosted Glass." With this said, Loc started to run after Uteva.

Trace and Radiant
Monday January 29th, 2001 5:28:36 PM

Trace cracks a smile at Ilsidur's stinging comments. "No matter how many asses this horse has I never threaten only promise action. No offense has been made ......yet...but to put the group at risk for mere curosity is no justifiable action. My action is of protection not agression. Yes I agree we are makeing a scene lets move on but I must insist that we return the package before we are acused or damaged by it." Trace reaches down and pulls up Sly on to the horse, "Dont worry little brother, it's just like when Sir Thomas confronted me. Sometimes it takes a harsh statement to bring someone around to realize what the situation is."Elbowing Sly, "Allthough I was in the right with Sir Thomas since that orc didnt really give us any thing to help." Trace now moves his horse inbetween the guards and Sir Thomas so that he has free room to take back the packet. For a bit of distraction trace whispers a command to Radiant, "Fetch". Trace then takes a dagger in its sheath and throws it up into the air and at the same time Radiant launches himself speeding towards it objective. Clutching the dagger and circleing a few times, Radiant returns with the dagger and waits for it's reward. Trace hands him a bit of dried meat for thanks. If there is a positvie reaction Trace will perform the trick a few more times to please the crowd.

Ilsidur
Monday January 29th, 2001 10:04:34 PM

Ilsidur nods up to the paladin, "You're right, friend. We should take our discussion elsewhere. Lead on."

As they move towards the inn, he continues the discussion, "Sir Thomas, are you sure we weren't 'given' this by anyone? They found it hidden in our stuff, not just as a forgotten item on the table." [OOC: This is what Lee-Anne wrote on Jan. 23rd: 'One guard, using a detection rod to sweep the packages loaded on the mare, locates a small, leather-wrapped packet inside a sack of horse feed.'] "Clearly, someone meant us to have it. Now, as to whether it was given to us as a bad thing or a good thing, I say lets find out. But in no way figure that this was only a case of mistaken identity and that we ended up with the packet by mistake."

Uteva
Tuesday January 30th, 2001 2:21:18 PM

"I agree that keeping the thing could be dangerous to us, whether legally or in some other way." Teva sighs. "But Ilsidur makes a good point about blindly turning it in. I prefer to make an informed decision. Let's have a look at it. If harm comes of it, at least we'll have some idea why."
