Drake (Anthony) Monday March 26th, 2001 6:55:28 PM
Drake stands up in the basement of the orphanage, having trouble getting straight in the cramped quarters. Once everyone crawls through the tiny space into the "secret" room he pushes the crate back in place and turns to everyone, making sure he has their attention. "I thought all of you should meet since you have all been stealing separately or in pairs for the orphanage. I thought maybe you all could get organized or something. See you guys, your starting to steal too much from the wrong people. I think you need some rules to make sure that if Mother F. ever does find out I can help her understand. Mother has been asking questions about your jobs and why I don't make as much at my real job as you all do at yours, I can't cover for you all unless you get organized and get some rules or guidelines or something. Mother only trusts me cause I keep the house in order when she's gone. If I can't at least look like I know everything about you guys she'll start asking her own questions. Got it? So let's have some rules!!"
OOC (Anthony) Monday March 26th, 2001 6:57:45 PM
Drake is the oldest orphan there, he is in all respects Flaust's assistant. He's studying to be a priest under her. He's the one who has been covering all your ill gotten gains, but it's all been so random you all almost got caught.
Anarion (Thomas) Monday March 26th, 2001 7:00:13 PM
Well I don't think we should steal anything unless we have to!
Why don't we ask some of the merchants around the lower level if they would be willing to help out the orphanage?
Anarion Ö
Plink (Jared) Monday March 26th, 2001 10:09:28 PM
"Aye, good idea, brother. However, what will we do when they deny us? You all know as well as I do that orphanages aren't the most loved places, and them merchant's aren't 'zactly gonna help us willingly. Drake's right, though, we need rules. I propose that we only steal from someone 2 nights every week, else we'll be bringin' in too much money. Also, only steal from those who we *know* have plenty o' money. Also, I have an idea, but it's kind of dangerous. Seein' as how Drake here thinks we ought ta stop stealing so often, why don't we try and make one big steal? I'm not talkin' steal everything someone has, but let's go up to a higher level, where people are much, much richer, and steal some 'o their stuff, thataways they won't miss it as much, and we won't have ta make as many trips. However, if we did it, we'd best give the money to Flaust in installments, thataways she doesn't get wise. But, I'm afriad this might be too dangerous. Any suh-jestions?"
Bart (Tim) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 2:12:04 AM
Bart stands up and gets everyone's attention. This is what I think we should have for starter rules. 1. 1 day a week, spend the rest of the time casing and plotting and ghosting our target, learn his every move. Learn his security and who is his guards. 2. Whatever is stolen and fenced, we give only a portion to mom, the rest we stash for a rainy day. This means, no extra spending of the take unless it is absolutely necessary. 3. Loose lips gets your butt beat. 4. Stay on this or 1 level above. We aint good enough to venture too much higher for we are not that experienced with magical protections and hired men with extroidanery abilities. 5. Never, and I mean NEVER do anything that would cause someone to try to put Mother Flaust as the ring leader. I will die before I point a finger in her direction, or yours for that matter.
With that said, he sits down on his box, leans back, closes his eyes and waits for the next person.
Tiree True (Aleyna) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 3:53:34 AM
Tiree looks around at all the kids gathered in this secret place. She looks each one in the face as they each speak their mind. Several times she nods her head and at others she looks a bit puzzled. After a while, she too speaks up.
"I don' think that we outta go up anythin' higher than this level. Well, maybe one more, but that's it. Ya keep on goin' up and they got magic and stuff we don' even know about! We'd only end up gettin' caught and worrin' Mama Flaust to death. Not ta mention we'd get our butts beat when we got back here.
Mama Flaust is 'ready spicious of how much money we're bringing in. We gotta cut back on that. Here's a plan. Whatever we bring in, we give Flaust enough so that it looks like we be workin'. Then, the rest we give to Drake. He can use the money ta pad what he's makin'. That a way, Flaust gets more of the money.
I definitely believe that we should all start workin' together. We can bring in a bit more that way and we'll be able to cover one another, too. But I think it'll take more than just a day to really know what security and such whatever target we picks has got. Each one is gonna be different.
The last thing I'm gonna say is that we gotta stick together on this. And I'm not jus' talkin' bout on the jobs. I mean in all ways. We gotta stick up for one anudder. I don' rat on you, even about stuff that doesn't deal with helpin' out Mama Flaust, and you don' rat on me. It's that simple!"
Realizing that she has been huffing and puffing for a long time, her face turns red and she sits down quickly.
Zack (davis) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 11:30:42 AM
Zack reaches up and taps Tiree on the arm, " calm down Tiree". As he starts to stand, he clears his throat and snaps his coat straight like how the lords do before their speaches.
"Alright, first of all, there are no rats here. You got that. Here were all family. You ain't gotta worry about that."
Zack continues as he looks around the room,"Now we need to make sure not to take anything to important. Not only because people will see that its gone, but because someone else might have their eye on it. There are alot of guilds in this town and we don't need to piss any of them off.
"Now if we stick to the small stuff, we can get the money we need and not look suspicios. But if we try to pawn one of the bishops gold staffs, well someone gonna get caught." Zack makes a quick gesture towards everyone, "No taking what we can't get rid of. But if something does happen, don't try to hide it.All of us here will help you. If you get something you can't get rid of without bringing heat on all of us, then you gotta let us in on it too. I don't want to hang, but if I do, I want to know what for.
He takes a few breaths to try and mello out a little. And then says"I say we stick to visitors of the city, instead of the people we live with. We can scope out the hotels and find a mark there. If we stick to the scummy places then we might not get as much, but its more our speed for now."
Zack sits back down and gestures towards the crate in the middle, like someone would if they opened a door for you and gestures for you to go in, and says "Next".
Anarion (Thomas) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 12:24:01 PM
Relaxing in a dark musky corner of the room, you can see Anarion's bright eyes blink as he begins to talk.
"I'm not as comfortable stealing things as the rest of you are. But I don't mind stealing to help out Mother and the little ones."
Moving into the light a little so that his face is a contrast of dark and light.
"I agree with Zack on two points. We should only steal small items and try stealing from those that aren't from here".
"But we should try stealing things Mother won't get suspicious off. We should try stealing bread, cheese, and fruits for all the orphanage to eat. We should also try stealing coins as opposed to items that you'll have to sell or fence. This way any guild's", speaking toward Zack, "won't become suspicious of us right".
"Lastly you know I'm not much for stealing, but I will help out as much as can. My talents lie in different realm of endeavours".
Settles back into the dark corner to fiddle with a small peice of wood.

OOC (Thomas) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 4:15:11 PM
I was looking at the maps of the wold in Duncan's Travel Agency. But I couldn't see where the Floating city is located? Where are we on that map?
Any ideas?
Tiree (Aleyna) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 4:17:54 PM
Tiree looks at Zack a little oddly.
"I'm plenty calm Zack. I jus' got a little flustery 'cause I jus' seemed ta keep goin' and goin' and goin'. I didn't mean ta do that."
She leans forward from against the wall where she is sitting. Her elbows are on her knees and her head is resting on her fists.
Ya got a good point about those other guilds, though. I hadn't thought bout that yet.
As for stealing food. I don't think that be a good idea, Anarion. We could tell her that we bought it with our money from workin', but what if'n we steal more than we could buy? I'm not sure what we could keep sayin' that she'd buy. Coins and small stuff would be best I think.
We could work in pairs or groups of three maybe. We find a target with a nice size purse and one of us distracts him while the other lifts it. Hittin' folks from outta town is a good idea. They don't know this place like we do."
She doesn't get red in the face this time when she finishes. She just leans back against the wall to wait.
Bart (Tim) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 4:29:36 PM
Ok, how about this. 1 individual a week. We let Drake hold the excess and he tells us what is needed. We each get a cover story for a job and we find out how much it pays. Personally, I think our story for money is we are guides to new people coming into the town. That way noone is there to dispute how much we are tipped by these newcomers. Hence the amount we give mom won't always have to be the same. In case one week we don't get as much as the next.
As for pairs or threes. I vote no. we either do this as a group or we all get a real job.
One last thing and i'll shut up. I have chores to do. We need to put a time frame as to when we stop doing our misdeeds. Deep down we are all good people. We all know what is right and wrong and stealing from someone all the time is wrong, even if the ends justify the means. My vote for the time is 3 months. At 1 person a week that would give Drake enough money to take care of mom and our younger siblings for a while til we can come up with a more legitimate way of supporting them.
Zack(davis) Tuesday March 27th, 2001 10:41:11 PM
Zack takes a long look at Bart. And not that he's looking at Bart, but almost looking past him. With a sudden jerk, he snaps to and says"I don't know about all of us trying to do a job together. I think we would have more success in smaller groups". He looks around and nods his head as hes counting the number of people in the room.
(how many people are here)
"I think if we go in two groups on the same night we will have a better chance for success. That way if one group has to abort the mission, the other might still have some luck. If both groups are lucky, we might not have to resort to stealing for another week or so. That should let good amount of time to pass before our next job and mabey we won't get caught so easly."
He looks around to see if anyone looks like they might disagree.
"Any set pattern someone is bound to catch on sooner or later."
DM Anthony Thursday March 29th, 2001 10:39:18 AM
Floating City is located on the Third Platue (sp) its on one of the maps.
You all need to re read the floating city information please, theft is a legitimate but illegal profession in the floating city.
Polaris (Kari) Thursday March 29th, 2001 10:42:07 AM
Polaris, who has been sitting in a corner of a room quietly listening, stands up to say her piece, even though it takes some extra attention to actually notice her.
"I don't think......"
She feels as though no one can actually see her, so she takes a black box from the corner and stands on top of it. Once Polaris is on top of the box, she is about as tall as Bart the dwarf, but she feels a sense of secruity knowing that she has some sort of power, at least for her height. She takes a deep breath and starts again.
"I don't think that we can work in smaller groups. We would have more sucess, yes, but we would not be a team. Once the groups get organized, alliances will be formed and there will be sectionalism among the group. I understand that some of you think that we could work better in smaller groups, but I would rather us not have any division."
She takes a breath. She looks around the room feeling she has said her piece, but doesn't feel finish. She can't think of anything else to say, so she steps of the box and sits down. Her face is a little flushed from the amount of courage it took her to stand up to her elders.
Anarion (Thomas) Thursday March 29th, 2001 2:53:40 PM
Speaking up.
"We all know the Trash Level a little bit."
OOC (Anthony I assume weve been slightly sheltered as kids, being in an orphanage. As opposed to street kids so we wouldn't know every alley like the backs of our hands.)
"I say you should all pick pockets! I beleive thats how most young theives, such as you, start to operate in this city. There's no sense forming a large group to go out and break into houses and taverns or the like. Have any of you ever done someting like that before?"
Anarion doesn't wait for an awnser.
"I didn't think so!"
Moving closer to the center of the circle.
"So you should plan to go out, as you have been doing, but only less frequently so mother Flaust won't wonder where the money is coming from."
"Now we only need to keep track of where and what people are doing."
Waving his hand in a circle, palm to the ground.
"Ok, so I propose that everyone gets one day a week to go theiving. On that day he or she will give us a list of places where they will be trying to steal."
"We should keep to areas with easy marks, such as Lernitig’s Gate where strangers arrive regularly through the magical portal. Or perhaps outside The Black Thorn Inn, The Black Spade Gambling Club or The Vampires’s Daughter. All of these places are great for getting your pocket picked, or so my brother has told me."
Sitting back down in the corner.
"Can we agree on this perhaps?"
"What do you think Drake, would this work?"
Zack (davis) Thursday March 29th, 2001 9:00:36 PM
"I will do whatever the group desides on. Alls I'm saying is a group of ten people walking around is a little easier to notice than one or two people."
Syr (Scott) Friday March 30th, 2001 6:10:59 AM
Without moving from his spot against the wall near Bart he says quietly, “Ok, I’ve been quiet a little too long to let this continue.”
“While I do suspect that asking the local merchants for things would work, I really don’t want to become a beggar. Honestly, if we asked 100 people, don’t you think that would get back the Mom?”
“Now let’s talk about targets. I do agree that targeting a stranger would be easier if we were caught. I, for one, do not plan to get caught. On the other hand, a stranger would be more vigilant in this city, while a local would feel more secure and hopefully complacent. Personally, I prefer a grab and run as I can probably evade anyone that is new to the city. I know that others here would prefer a more deft method than mine. An aspect that we have not considered is wealth. Nine times out of ten, someone that has enough money to visit this place can afford to lose a little. I don’t want to be the person to put someone else in the position that our home is in…”
With a wry grin, “I’m afraid I have to disagree with you once again Zack, large groups will be just too noticeable even in this city. Although, you are right if we go for one big score. Unfortunately, we can’t go for a one shot until we actually find a job that looks safe enough.”
“As far as how many jobs we do, I think it would be a good idea to stay in the orphanage a couple days after each job just in case someone is looking.”
Nodding at Tiree, “Giving the excess to Drake is probably the best plan for now. That brings up another point, look around you, do you want all of the little’uns to be brought up stealing like we have to? I like the idea of a limit; I wouldn’t want to sneak around this place for the rest of my life. Instead of time, why don’t we make the limit money? Drake, approximately how much money do we need to help Mother for one year?”
“One possibility is finding someone who will be able to make large donations to the Orphanage for us. Ideally, they wouldn’t know or care how we came by this wealth. That would ensure the future of this place without raising too many questions.”
With that said, he closes his eyes again and places the back of his head against the wall.
Davis Friday March 30th, 2001 11:05:48 AM
((OOC, Did I have a typo in my post.Zack, the char. that I play, doen't want to go out in large groups. Hence, "ten people are easier to notice then one or two".And then Zack said we should stick with the "small stuff", not one big score.Either way, we sould do what the group decides on.))
Scott Saturday March 31st, 2001 5:17:18 AM
(OOC: Grin, right you are Davis! I was actually referring to a previous post by Zack that mentioned 2 groups. The reason I picked on ya a bit is because of Bart’s character statement “Bart laughs at Zack and Syrdeth, the two are always butting heads but know deep down, they are brothers and as brothers they will always argue and fight but whenever someone else tries picking on one, the other is right there to help the other.” Originally, I had not planned on incorporating that into my character but I figured I’ll roll with it or ‘role’ even.
As for your selecting a ranger: I actually do applaud that, the statement wasn’t sarcasm :) I looked at the class as a possibility and figured it would take some really good roleplaying and creativity to pull it off. I didn’t want to try that in my first PBEM. In a nut shell, I opted for the easy way out *grin*.)
Davis Sunday April 1st, 2001 12:50:59 PM
((OOC:AAAHHHH, Now I see.You must forgive me for being slow to catch on to your sarcasm. You got to understand that sometimes its hard pick up on such things when your just reading about them. In real life you get little tips such as, people rolling their eyes, over acting on certin words, or just a smart ass grin on their face. But now that I know how Syr is going to be, I'll just have to keep my eyes open. ;) ))
Bart (Tim) Sunday April 1st, 2001 10:01:34 PM
He opens his eyes, leans forward, looks at each and every person in the room. He makes a cough sound and when everyone looks his way he says this:
I remember a while back, a time when we did go out and pilfer in small groups and I also remember how one time a few of you came back with some serious injuries. I also remember having to lie to mother saying you were out of the city helping a merchant when in fact you were holed up healing. If you want to form small groups and go out and pilfer. You can count me out. And don't come running to me when you get hurt badly. We are suppose to be a family foremost and a group secondmost. How can I use my talents on you if you are half the city away?
He starts to lean back when he jerks himself up and stands. he heads towards the door but stops short, turns around and says this:
I have never made a demand of any of you for anything until now, this is my demand. We either go out and do this together, as a group, or you can find yourself another to take my place. And with that he leaves the room.
Anarion (Thomas) Monday April 2nd, 2001 1:09:59 AM
Well i'snt he precious!!
(Yelling at Bart towards the open door)
Do you want your beddy blanket to sulk with??
Shhesss
Syr (Scott) Monday April 2nd, 2001 4:00:17 AM
Slowly turning his head, he watches the dwarf leave. “Well! That was interesting. He certainly has improved from the days when he held his breath until he turned purple and passed out. Regardless, I can see his point. It seems I get in more scrapes than most here. Wherever I go, I would prefer to have him at my back.” Grinning as if he has already accepted the inevitable, “So, it looks like we have our work cut out for us. Any ideas what kind of job will require most or all of us?”
Drake (Anthony) Monday April 2nd, 2001 6:02:46 PM
WELL... perhaps It was a little earily to try and pull you all together like this. Maybe you are all a litle young, I mean some of you won't even speak. Some are leaving and others feel comfortable teasing their brother about his convictions. Perhaps you are all a little young to begin something grand.
Anarion (Thomas) Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 12:55:51 AM
Well I for one am ready to join together as one.
What does everyone say, lets all work together from now on. Lets adventure as a group in the city and watch out for one another.
Everyone who agrees say AYE!
AYE!
(Thomas: please don't sign your posts, it breaks the character of your posts. Try to keep EVERYTHING in character guys, also everyone needs to post every day, if you know of someone not posting please let them know.)
Anarion Ö
Plink Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 8:16:35 AM
"Yes, brother, let us work together. Aye is my vote." At saying this, Plink stands and firmly clasps his brother's shoulder, and hopefully awaits everyone else's standing in unison.
Tiree (Aleyna) Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 9:43:58 AM
Tiree watches as Bart walks out. She shakes her head a little bit at the way he is unable to control his emotions.
"I'll vote aye to working as a group, but I still do not believe that it is best. Even so, I will do the best I can. We still haven't decided how to work as a group though."
Syr Scott) Wednesday April 4th, 2001 3:58:48 AM
Looking around bemused, "Well, most know my vote is 'AYE!'"
Addressing Drake, "Did you have any particular job in mind? and by the way, BECAUSE he is my brother, I feel comfotable teasing him. If the I made the same comments to a stranger, I would be prepared to back them up with my fists."
Bart (Tim) Wednesday April 4th, 2001 8:17:17 AM
From up the stairs you hear an AYE!
"Aye!" she screams, not feeling she needs to use her box this time.
Anarion Wednesday April 4th, 2001 10:25:39 PM
Clasping his brother's hands.
"Together we will be strong"
Zack Thursday April 5th, 2001 11:19:36 AM
"Aye"
"And I'm glad we finally made up our minds on the matter"
"I hope our decision make in the future doesn't take as long. Next problem we have might be more time oriented." Having said that Zack gets up and heads for the door.
Looking back at everyone he says, "Well what are you waiting for, lets go put our skills to some use".
Drake (Anthony) Thursday April 5th, 2001 11:44:22 AM
Well done, I am glad you over came that hurdle, I hope the next one is as easy. Now here is the problem, Mother needs 500 gold by the end of the week. In 5 days. You all know allison has been sick, well thats what it cost Mother to heal her. She borrowed the money against her services to Floy and "The Family" (see e-mail) If she dosen't have the money by then she goes to work for them for the next two years. I need you all to do something...PLEASE!" Drake seems close to tears. "I have go now or mother will get nosey. If you can't think of anything to do to help let me know and I'll go sell myself to them instead."
