Teko (Improved Invisibility) d20+7=8 Friday March 16th, 2001 8:35:42 PM
"Uh, Jus, I haven't the slightest idea who is the real Gareth." Teko's voice begins to grow distant. "I think I'll help Tericus for a moment with our innocents. I'll be right back." And Teko goes to see if there are any wounds he can bind.
Dopples Topple (DM Jerry) Monday March 19th, 2001 12:42:14 PM
One of the two Gareth's topple. #2 and 3 on the rooftops howl with frustration and both begin to shapechange into their natural doppleganger forms.
One hisses in broken common, "No Master. Please Master. Have mercy!"
They begin to smoke as their natural bodies melt away as if covered with acid.
All that is left is a small wisp of acidic smoke from each body.
The town is quiet. The drow are in a defensive formation around a shorter drow in their midst.
(figured we needed a post. I hope I didn't ruin Kent's big ending. I hope he's ok.)
Gareth [Bull Strength, Fly] Monday March 19th, 2001 1:32:59 PM
The warrior sighs as the last two imposters fall. "Dopplegangers...". He sees the drow and immediately sheathes his sword. "Please stay and let us explain what happened - and let us help you. We'll clean up the mess and then lets talk. Here is a raise dead spell. Please use it if you need it.". The warrior flies back up to where "Onrad" was. He tosses the remains off onto the ground. He then flies over to the hardened figure of "Nonam" and tosses it onto the ground. He then flies over to #2 and #3 and does the same. This is, of course, if there is anything left. During this exercise he also makes sure that all smoldering wood caused from all the magical fire has been extinguished. Once the cleanup is finished he lands back in front of the drow and waits for the others to assemble before proceeding to explain. While he waits he searches "Gareth" for any items he may have stolen from him.
"Onrad, my mother has many scars. I do not know which one you are talking about. But before we left we agreed to a sign and a call sign. I will give you either or both if you need me to prove I am the real thing.".
DM Kent d20=18 Monday March 19th, 2001 7:28:21 PM
The baddies are gone, at least for now. There are however the bodies of 5 drow lying in the road. The remaining drow, that Gareth did not attack, fled awhile ago. As things quiet down, you all hear the sounds of a large group marching double time, coming from the main street, north of you.
Jus (CGrace +2Dx,+1AC; Shield +7AC) Tuesday March 20th, 2001 1:57:49 AM
"Great, I expect we will need to do some explaining soon." Jus heads over to the people Gareth has killed, seeing that their illusions have faded and their drow selves remain.
While casually looking for a house sign (makeing sure it doesn't look like he is looting the bodies), Jus asks Tericus, "Can you do anything? What about that scroll of Gareth's, will it help?"
Gareth Tuesday March 20th, 2001 9:15:02 AM
"I can grab several of them and go invisible. Maybe it would be better to simply avoid the guard for the time being.". The warrior scoops up as many of the drow as he can, moves over to the side out of the path of the guard and disappears unless his friends object. (He can lift in excess of 700 lbs. I'm betting he can get at least 4 of them if not all of them.)
Nonam (flying, invisible) Tuesday March 20th, 2001 9:56:47 AM
Nonam sits down in midair in order to calm down. He doesn't do anything to let the party know where he is.
Onrad Tuesday March 20th, 2001 12:34:22 PM
Nah, we face the music. We're heroes. We run and hide we become what they think we are. They don't want to attack us. If it came to that they know they'd lose. Onrad stands over the bodies as if guarding them.
Tericus Tuesday March 20th, 2001 6:42:23 PM
"If they are dead, Jus, they are beyond my power." Tericus says "And i think we already used Gareth's scroll. I think we are in trouble."
DM Kent Tuesday March 20th, 2001 10:37:34 PM
As Gareth starts gathering bodies to hide their trace, the others discuss the options. The drow, 3 women and 2 men are very very dead. As Gareth gets all the bodies together the first of the approaching hoard comes around the corner. Coming toward you is what is the lead group of a large bunch of Drow warriors. As they come around the corner and spot you all, you hear, "STOP WHERE YOU ARE AND KEEP YOUR WEAPONS SHEATHED."
Teko (Improved Invisibility) Tuesday March 20th, 2001 10:43:14 PM
After checking the bodies to see if any of them still live, Teko says, "I think I'll just stand off to the side for the moment."
Nonam (flying) Wednesday March 21st, 2001 9:44:26 AM
Nonam drops his invisibility, but calmly remains sitting in midair.
He surveys the crowd and speaks in the Drow's undercommon, "We were tricked into this battle with our friends. There was a powerful illusion placed on them so that they looked like us. At the time we were hunting our doppelgangers, so we attacked them. Once we revealed ourselves, the true dopplegangers appeared, and we did battle. We slew four and captured two for questioning, but then one of the captured spoke to his unseen master begging forgiveness. Apparently forgiveness was not granted, and they were all turned into ash. Hopefully, those of your people who survived will support my story, but the situation was probably very confusing for them. If they disagree, I may only offer my honor as a holder of the madara ai'lelis to support the truth of what I say."
Here Nonam stops and speaks in common, "In fact all my friends hold the madara ai'lelis or Blue Knife. We certainly would not have helped your family to leave Menzoberranzan only to purposefully ambush and slay them here. However, perhaps we are no longer worthy to hold a life debt over your family. Should that be the case, we will return the knives, but the real enemy here is whoever their master is."
Tericus Wednesday March 21st, 2001 9:57:59 AM
Tericus waits to see what the drow's reaction to Noonan's words are
Gareth [Fly, Bull Strength] Wednesday March 21st, 2001 11:23:39 AM
The warrior mentions to Tericus as he moves the bodies, "I have yet another scroll with a raise dead spell on it. I cannot use it but I hope you can.". The warrior holds and waits for the guard to come forward. As Nonam speaks in a confusing language, he does nothing. He waits for the guard to respond.
Jus (CGrace +2Dx,+1AC; Shield +7AC) Wednesday March 21st, 2001 3:39:04 PM
Jus swings his magical Shield to face the newcomers, but otherwise does nothing that might inflame their anger.
Onrad Wednesday March 21st, 2001 4:22:12 PM
Onrad moves from standing in front of the bodies to stepping behind them. He has a neutral expression on his face.
However, his head is spinning with the possibilities. He thinks that this is not resolved without knowing the controllor of the doppelgangers. He reviews the events in his mind in an attempt to garner a clue as to what to do next.
DM Kent Wednesday March 21st, 2001 7:48:52 PM
The Drow keep on coming and soon there are around 40 warriors and 10 other drow facing you with bows and swords drawn. Near the front you see a recently bandaged warrior and several rows back you see a heavily bandaged Hatchme. At about 20 feet away, they stop and spread out. They listen as Nonan speaks and then the leader looks up at him and again speaks in a very even and neutral tone. "WE ARE NOT HERE TO JUDGE OR DEBATE. YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED TO LAY DOWN OR SHEATHE YOUR WEAPONS. I ASK YOU AGAIN TO COMPLY WITH MY REQUEST. THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING. As he finishes speaking, 30 bows are drawn, swords are raised and it looks like there are several spells being readied.
Tericus Thursday March 22nd, 2001 5:26:18 AM
"I can use it." Tericus whispers back to Gareth as he puts his mace up and holds his hands out in front of him
Nonam (flying) Thursday March 22nd, 2001 8:43:52 AM
Still sitting in midair, Nonam holds up his empty hands to demonstrate that he has been in compliance all along.
Onrad Thursday March 22nd, 2001 9:41:41 AM
Under his breath Onrad curses. "Holy Wardd, haven't we had enough of this for one day? All I want is a vacation!"
Onrad, who hasn't had his weapons out since the battle, continues standing behind the bodies. Blood runs down the corner of his mouth where he bites it to keep himself in check. He is obviously furious.
Gareth d20+4=23 Thursday March 22nd, 2001 11:49:51 AM
Feeling the pain of the mistaken drow slayings, the warrior walks forward with open hands in a non-threating posture. "We are in compliance with your demand. You will have abosultely NO resistance from us. We must resolve this right now because the power behind this is still at large and not even Sturtavent has been able find them.". Looking to the noble and injured dark warrior, he offers "It's good to see you alive Hatchme. The High Lord Mayor was unable to determine if you survived your encounter with our imposters. But I doubted their ability to take you out. You're much too good for that.". Turning to the one shouting the demands he asks "Now that we've complied with your demand, what would you have us do?". (Cha check of 23).
Teko Thursday March 22nd, 2001 4:32:02 PM
If possible, Teko will cancel the Improved Invisibility potion. He drops his weapons. If he must let the potion run its course, he says so, and also says that he would be amenable to a Dispel Magic.
Jus (CGrace +2Dx,+1AC; Shield +7AC) d20+16=19 Thursday March 22nd, 2001 9:32:24 PM
Jus pretty much ignores the drow leader, although his weapons are still put away. He does wonder about Gareth's words, since it isn't clear to him whether Hatchme is a prisoner or an ally to this new group -- besides this could be yet another Doppleganger.
Looking a little closer, Jus tries to determine which house the newcombers belong to (Spot check of 19).
DM Kent Friday March 23rd, 2001 7:55:27 AM
Hatchme watches Gareth's approach, draped with drow dead, with a sad smile on his face and slightly shakes his head. Tis a most confusing time for all right now. It would be best if you just follow the Captain's orders. It also might be best if you let us carry our kin.
Several robed drow move forward warily toward Gareth and the drow fallen to take posession of them.
The Captain steps forward and speaks again. Which of you is the leader of this group? When some one speaks up, He continues You are to fall in in front of us. You will please make no ofensive actions and you must not speak. The Matron wishes a meeting and a reckoning.
The House emblem is very noticable and IS very recognizable as that of your former allies.
(I forget the house name and I dont have my files handy. Ben.... something i think)
Teko pops in to visibility, not startling any one. Almost as if they new he was there.
Nonam Friday March 23rd, 2001 9:14:15 AM
Nonam drifts down to the ground and ends his flight so that he can fall in.
Gareth [Fly, Bull Strength] Friday March 23rd, 2001 10:19:06 AM
The warrior gingerly and respectfully hands over the dead. "I mourn the loss of the fallen. I am sorry.".
Somehow knowing the others won't mind him making the claim in this situation, the warrior speaks up, "I am the leader of The Three - at least I take point in combat. I will speak for us but will defer to the others if necessary.".
He moves in front of the drow as the captain directs. He pauses a moment to add "You may not believe this right now, but we are your allies. You have only to ask and we will come with you. Your archers do not need to nock arrows to insure it - even though I don't blame you for taking the precaution.".
Onrad Friday March 23rd, 2001 5:00:28 PM
Onrad follows seething at fate.
He also frowns at Gareth's attempt to make conversation with his captor. Sometimes, Onrad thinks, it's best to just shut up. ...but then that wouldn't be Gareth would it.
He smiles slightly at that thought and the idea of being with friends lightens his heart a bit.
"Vacation coming soon,"...he whispers.
Teko Friday March 23rd, 2001 8:27:45 PM
Teko is watchful of his captors and attempts to appear very...peace-loving. "Maybe, Onrad," Teko mutters with a slight smile, "all of our vacations will be like this from now on. On each vacation, the danger level merely flattens out for a bit. Just so we get a breather."
Jus (CGrace +2Dx,+1AC; Shield +7AC) Friday March 23rd, 2001 11:42:49 PM
Jus gives a weak nod towards Hatchme; these certainly are not the best of times.
Although Jus tries to keep it to himself, he is noticeably angered when Gareth states that he is the leader. "These drow wouldn't have been butchered if you'd have listened to the rest of us!" Jus quietly seethes to himself.
Jus tries to calm himself, remembering that Gareth's Bull Strength comes with an equal portion of Bull Headed-ness; but his thoughts are overwhelmed with the dead before him. It's a small condolence that they were at least drow -- but they were still innocent.
Tericus Saturday March 24th, 2001 6:25:42 AM
"We were just defending ourselves, how could this of happened?" Tericus whispers to himself as he marches along. "I feel so low."
DM Kent Saturday March 24th, 2001 10:20:19 AM
As you peacefully fall in the Drow relax quite a bit and stand their weapons down. Still quite rapidly they start heading out of town to the north. Hatchme falls in along side you all and as you go along seems strangely quiet, even for him. About 5 minutes later you come to an old building. It looks like it was once a noble's townhouse. The guards start dispesing leaving you with only a group of six guards and 4 of the non-warrior types and Hatchme.
Hatchme indicates that you all should follow him. He makes his way to the door and without even a knock he opens the door and steps in. You hear several steps and a bit of whispering, "Irrilyn, there seems...I know, but ... Yes Matron. . You hear a few more foot steps and then you hear Hatchme announce.
"Matron Millithor, I bring you The Three."
As he finishes he motions for you to enter. You are followed in only by the 4 non-warriors and the one injured one.
Onrad d20+8=20 Saturday March 24th, 2001 1:58:39 PM
Onrad enters and takes a glance around.
When he spots the matron, he bows the bow of equals who respect each other. Short curt and from the neck up.
His stomach growls loudly.
Onrad uses his Knowledge:Nobility skill to try and determine the true emotions and feelings of the matron. (rolled DC20)
Nonam Sunday March 25th, 2001 1:06:27 PM
Nonam enters and bows, but he waits to speak until he gets permission.
Teko Sunday March 25th, 2001 5:10:47 PM
Teko brushes himself off, steps inside, and bows low. He rises and waits for the Matron to speak.
Gareth Monday March 26th, 2001 9:21:03 AM
The warrior moves with the others and shows respect to the Matron with a bow. He also is silent waiting for her to speak.
Tericus Monday March 26th, 2001 9:39:56 AM
Teriucs also bows in front of the matron
Jus (CGrace +2Dx,+1AC; Shield +7AC) d20+12=32 Monday March 26th, 2001 9:28:47 PM
Jus uses his training and introduces the party, expressing their honor to be called before the Matron and the party's sorrow concerning the recent unfortunate events [diplomacy check = natural 20+12=32].
DM d20=7 d100=82 Monday March 26th, 2001 10:04:33 PM
As you all enter past Hatchme, he does not even look up at you and seems very upset by something.
Onrad gets the Idea that the Matron is not very happy right now.
As Jus starts to introduce the party she interrupts him with a curt, "Yes, Yes, I know who you all are. And I believe you are sorry. ::sigh:: I truly was hoping that this meeting would take place under slightly better circumstances." I understand ran in to some difficulties along the way to meet with me. Would someone care to elaborate a bit on the incidents that may have deprived me of one of my daughters?"
Gareth Monday March 26th, 2001 11:15:47 PM
The warrior steps forward and says sadly but without hesitation "Matron Millithor, I must start by saying that it is I, and I alone who is responsible for the deaths of your family this night. I killed all 5 of them with my own hand. There was a group of dopplegangers disguised as us who we were searching for. They cast a powerful illusion on your meeting party to make them look like our enemies. I fell for it and attacked your greating party without mercy. Once our mages discovered the deception, I stopped my attack and focused on the real enemy - who we destroyed.".
With great effort, the warrior continues. "I do not know how to tell you with words how much sorrow I have right now. I was so enraged by the imposters I underestimated their power - and their evil. The only thing I can offer you is this scroll, which we can use to raise your daughter from the dead. I will also make any reparations you require including bringing you scrolls to raise your other lost family members. The only thing I would ask is that any retribution be exacted on me only. My friends did not do this - and they told me to stop when they discovered who I was attacking. I put myself at your mercy.".
With that, the warrior waits - hoping she is willing to show partiality for his past actions on her behalf.
Tericus Tuesday March 27th, 2001 6:18:56 AM
proud to be a companion of Gareth, Tericus moves along side him and says "I was next to Gareth guarding his flank and healing his wounds. Tis' true what he says, in the heat of battle we couldnt tell who we were really fighting due to powerful magics that disguised them."
Nonam Tuesday March 27th, 2001 2:41:40 PM
Nonam waits a moment and speaks quietly, "Gareth was a dupe of whoever disguised your family. It is a vast understatement to say that it is regrettable that he did not realize the truth more quickly. However, whoever cast that illusion is responsible for their deaths not my dimwitted friend. Personally, I believe that it was this Dark Lord in Izen. I think few others would have the power to destroy all of those dopplegangers at once before we questioned them."
Jus Tuesday March 27th, 2001 3:06:30 PM
Jus lets the others approach the Matron, but stays where he is. His eyebrows lift in suprise when Tericus stands with Gareth -- unexpected, but quite a welcome sight.
Onrad Tuesday March 27th, 2001 9:01:06 PM
Onrad stands with Jus. He turns and grins at Jus for a second when Tericus comes forward, then he whips his head back around and looks serious.
Teko Tuesday March 27th, 2001 9:24:42 PM
Teko periodically nods his agreement as the other party members speak, especially as they express their regret over the harm the party caused to the Matron's folk. Otherwise, he remains silent.
Matron Millithor (DM Kent) Wednesday March 28th, 2001 8:03:34 AM
Watching the Three as Gareth speaks, the Matron listens without interuption and then looks squarely into Gareth's eyes. "To accept responsibility for the deaths is very comendable, but to accept responsibility for things you did not do is ofttimes foolhardy. Gareth, and yes I remember all your names, you are a warrior and according to the reports magic from above killed at least three of mine. Have you now become so formidable that you can fight on the ground and send Magic Ice from above at the same time?" "Your sorrow and offer of help are comendable and what I would expect from your group. You may be a dangerous group, but you are also, under normal circumstances, compassionate. You may keep you scrolls for we will either win this confrontation on our own with Gargul or we will not. I think sometimes and I know many of my peope believe that we have become to dependent on you surface dwellers. ::sigh:: What they don't realize yet is that your style of life up here, lends itself to aiding those who need it. ::shakes her head slowly:: But I digress, I need, no I must know what you can tell me about these attackers and who might be behind all of this. But first, refresh yourselves and rest forat least the rest of the night. Tommorow we will go to our new homesite and we will have our discussions."
With that, she motions for several young ladies to lead you to quarters for your use. They silently, with downcast eyes, lead you down a back hallway and stop in front of a door. They then turn and leave.
Nonam Wednesday March 28th, 2001 11:03:37 AM
Nonam opens the door and walks in, "I could really use some sleep. Drinking that potion wore me out. I hope that unlike elves drow sleep on beds."
Gareth d20+4=24 Wednesday March 28th, 2001 1:56:09 PM
The warrior nods in acceptance but with some uncertainty as the Matron finishes. "Hmm. I did not notice any attacks coming to your group other than from me. I did take several arrows from above - and maybe some magic. The illusion must have masked my vision in more ways than I realized. But I am relieved to know that I was not the sole cause of your loss - and that you understand what happened. I hope we can continue to be strong allies."
Pausing before he leaves her presence, the warrior decides to add something else (CHA DC 24!). With a grace and elegance unusual in one who fights for a living he says "And as for being dependent on surface dwellers, I think I understand some of your people's challenge. I come from a very independent family who live in a wild and dangerous land. It took us a long time to band together with others in the area to protect our common interests and even longer to trust them. But the fact is, we were stronger together than separate. We were able to resist the attacks from bandits and would-be lords instead of burying those they killed when they were able to focus their attack against one house. By relying on each other we survive to this day. In the underdark it seemed to me that there was a - predictability - to agression against your people. Up here there is no shielding from any direction. Things here are much more chaotic and disodered most times. Your people will come to understand that sticking together is the difference between life and death. I hope we can help you with that. You see, when you accepted the invitation to come here, your enemies became our enemies. They threaten all of our familes and together we must stop them.".
Hoping she finds some comfort in his words, the warrior departs and follows the ladies to his room, and enters. He sits in silence and eats any snacks he sees.
Onrad Wednesday March 28th, 2001 3:56:38 PM
Onrad's grin drips with sarcasm as he turns to Gareth to see if he'll be able to resist having some last words. He glances at Jus and silently counts to three... 1...2...3....
Nope, there he goes. Offering his insufferable advice. All for one and all for Gareth. Hmm...how he has changed since I was in his head.
Onrad follows looking appropriately serious, but thinking that he's ready for some time away from responsibilities.
Teko Wednesday March 28th, 2001 9:05:53 PM
Teko bows once more to the Matron and follows her daughters, eager for rest.
Jus (CGrace +2Dx,+1AC) Wednesday March 28th, 2001 9:42:47 PM
Jus gives a little smirk when he realizes what Onrad's silent count was for.
Turning to follow the ladies to his room, Jus looks towards Hatchme. Keeping quiet and only using his eyes, Jus bids Hatchme to come with them.
On the way to the room, Jus starts to relax. Ah! Finally some quiet. "Perhaps this is our one evening of vacation," Jus quips to no one in particular.
As their escorts turn to leave, Jus thanks them for their kindness, politely trying to catch their eyes with his honest smile.
Tericus Thursday March 29th, 2001 9:35:06 AM
"I hope so Jus." Tericus says while walking into the room. "Anyone wounded? I have quite a few spells that can be cast, and since ill learn them all back this evening we might as well ues them up now."
DM Kent Thursday March 29th, 2001 7:07:26 PM
As you all enter the room you find several dozen pallets stacked to one side of the room and a plethora of folded bed clothes, and furs. There are several chests in the room and one other door.
Hatchme acknowledges Jus' look and shakes his head and then gives a small shrugg.
The Matron seems to be lost somewhere in her head as you all leave. .....
DM Kent Thursday March 29th, 2001 7:15:52 PM
Those of you needing healing spels can get healed. Those of you wanting baths, open the other door and find a heated bathing pool. The chests are empty and are easily able to hold your belongings. There are no windows so it is dark in the rooms, but there are light stones set strategically around the rooms.
Your rest if you desire it and as you all are fairly tired, you should desire it, is very deep, restful, and undisturbed. After almost eight hours of sleep, a tenative knock is heard on your door.
Gareth Thursday March 29th, 2001 11:30:25 PM
Thinking back over the long day they just had the warrior is thankful to get a good night's rest. "Boy guys, that was a pretty long day. We get back from Menzo, go get an award, sleep during the afternoon, go for dinner, meet Sturtavent, come here, and fight our doubles. I think a vacation IS in order very soon!".
Tericus Friday March 30th, 2001 9:10:39 AM
"If we become a dragon group, do we get paid vacation?"
Gareth Friday March 30th, 2001 11:09:40 AM
The warrior looks at Nonam and Jus as everyone begins to get rolling. "I have a request/recommendation. The spell Nonam cast on me that made me stronger before the battle got me to thinking. It would be very much a benefit if you two would cast some of those spells on everyone before combat begins. Even in non-combat situations if the effects don't have a time limit. Maybe that stone spell I've seen you both mkae. Do you guys have anything like that you could do for everyone? I think anything at this point we can do to maximize our resources is a good idea.". He waits for them to say something.
Dm Kent Friday March 30th, 2001 11:24:07 PM
After you all wake and get repacked, you are fed a quick breakfast and are urged to join the drow in their trip back to their new home. There is no sight of The Matron this morning and a good batch of the guards and personel that were here the night before are gone. Hatchme, looking like he has been drug through a wringer joins you just after breakfast.
"The Matron sends her regards and asks if you will join us for a dedication ceremony this evening at our new and future home."
Teko Saturday March 31st, 2001 12:28:19 AM
"Excellent idea, Gareth. I need to copy that Stoneskin spell that you refer to and use it - on myself and anyone else who needs it. I've not been very smart in failing to learn and use the resources at our disposal. From now on, I play this game shrewdly. Our lives depend on it." In response to Hatchme's invitation, Teko raises his bushy eyebrows at the others in the party, waiting for their go-ahead.
Jus Saturday March 31st, 2001 4:42:35 AM
"I was thinking about what you said last night, Gareth. I don't particularly like it. I'm not near the fighter as you, Onrad, or Tericus. If I only memorized those type of spells for everyone, I'd be pretty much useless. It's like asking a Cleric to only memorize healing spells and nothing else -- but a cleric would still be a decent fighter."
Jus finishes eating and listens to Tako, nodding in approval. When Hatchme talks and Teko looks to everyone else, Jus playfully prompts, "Go ahead, Teko! Now's your chance to lead the party before Gareth jumps in! Say something!"
Gareth d20-2=17 Saturday March 31st, 2001 10:09:51 AM
While The Three eat the warrior shrugs to Jus and offers "I wasn't meaning that you risk yourself in combat, Jus. I'm suggesting that when we're NOT in combat that maybe you guys could do some stuff for us and then prepare for combat afterwards. For instance, you cast that stone thing - what did Teko call it? - Stoneskin on Lorna. It looked to me like it didn't wear off. Well, if you don't use it, DOES it wear off? If not, why not put one on the fighters when we're not in danger?". He pauses with a sobering thought. "As if we'll ever be out of danger again. Well, you know what I mean. I have no idea what you guys can really do but I if we can stand longer in front of you and fight so you can do your thing it would benefit you greatly. Wouldn't it? All I'm asking is that you think about it. You guys are a whole lot smarter than me so if it's possible I'm sure you can come up with some ideas.".
As they join the drow he shakes his head at Jus's needling (Wis check). "At least this schedule we're keeping isn't affecting your since of humor, my friend.".
As they travel the warrior asks Hatchme "If I offered you a healing potion would you accept it? I'm wondering why you have not been healed?". If the dark warrior agrees to take one, Gareth gives it to him in whatever manner he asks (i.e. covertly/overtly).
Nonam Saturday March 31st, 2001 10:43:16 AM
Nonam looks at Gareth and Jus, "What Jus is trying to say is we can only memorize so many spells a day. Memorizing our easy spells is roughly equivalent to you trying to memorize a poem in dwarven. But, if I get a couple of weeks off, I can make a wand for each of those spells. That we can keep them on us without having to memorize them. I've been thinking about making some magic items for a while now. I know how. I can make wands, swords, and armor. I should also copy down a few scrolls. All I need is a little money, a place to work, and most importantly... time. This mansion in Big Float should be a decent place to work, and we've got a little money now. So now I need time. At least a couple of weeks. I think part of this adventuring thing is knowing when to take a break."
When Hatchme arrives, Nonam cheerfully answers, "We would be honored to attend. Would you like some breakfast? Or maybe you'll come visit us in Floating City. We're about to go on vacation? Funny thing is seems like this trip started out as a vacation."
Tericus Sunday April 1st, 2001 2:43:52 PM
"I didnt know I was a great fighter Jus." Teriucs says as he pulls up a sleeve and flexes a muscle that isnt there. When Hatchme arrives, he stops and goes with the others.
DM Kent Monday April 2nd, 2001 7:34:00 PM
Hatchme shakes his head at the offer of breakfast, explaining that he ate over an hour ago. An at Gareth's offer of healing, he shrugs and declines, saying that a warrior needs reminders of his follies.
He and the rest of the Drow lead the way to the outskirts of the city and along the edge of the lake and into the Blackheart Woods. Just after lunch you all start hearing and seeing signs of lots of work in progress. Several minutes later Hatchme leads you into an area of woods being cleared just at the bottom of a hill. In the side of the hill is what is most definately a cave opening. It is toward this opening that the drow are leading you.
Jus Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 4:53:12 AM
Jus follows along, a bit disconcerted with so many Drow above ground -- somehow, it doesn't seem right. Strangely, Jus notices that it doesn't bother him as much as before....
Gareth Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 12:47:06 PM
The warrior nods at Nonam's words, and during the trip finds time to ask the wild mage another question. "Your wand idea sounds good to me. Somehow I think our adversarys will only increase in power as we go so anything we can do will help us live longer. Your words got me to thinking: You say you can make magical weapons and armor. Can you also make existing magical weapons and armor better? I like what I have, they have been good companions. But if they could be improved I would very much want to do that. Even if you were too busy to do it yourself, if it's possible I could always have it done. What do you think?".
Gareth nods to Hatchme as they ride respecting the dark warriors ethic and integrity - and hoping Hatchme still respects his. As they ride on in silence he observes the new home of this family. "Interesting compromise. The new home is still underground but is closer to the surface. It should be very defensible.".
Nonam Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 3:17:28 PM
Nonam answers Gareth, "I'm not going to tell you that it's impossible to place new magic on already enchanted items, but it is very difficult. In any case, the item wouldn't be the same. To put it in mundane terms, you could strap a brass bar to the handle of your sword. The blade would be the same, but the weight and feel would be entirely different. Probably enough so that you wouldn't want to do it. Adding magic would act in a similar way, so, it would probably be easier to create an item like what you wanted from scratch."
Gareth Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 4:43:28 PM
The warrior frowns a bit at Nonam's words. "Is this something you'd be willing to try? Adding power, I mean... Even if it made things different, it would probably be no worse than getting a new sword - which would feel different too. I just hate to abandon something that's served me so well for so long. I'll do whatever you advise but that is what I really want.".
Teko Tuesday April 3rd, 2001 6:31:18 PM
As Teko follows along, he watches as the Drow work. "Loading up on scrolls and potions would be very helpful, I think," says Teko, randomly adding to the conversation. "It might give us the greatest payoff for our efforts."
Tericus Wednesday April 4th, 2001 9:33:09 AM
"We should have a good workout program too." Tericus says. "And good eating habits"
Nonam Wednesday April 4th, 2001 10:11:04 AM
Nonam nods at Teko and Tericus, grinning he holds up his frail arm, flexes, and says, "I have an excellent workout every morning. It's made me big and strong." Then he turns back to Gareth, "Now back to your question, "I probably could, but realize I could possibly ruin whatever you had me working on. If you accept that risk, then I'll give it a try."
Gareth Wednesday April 4th, 2001 2:32:05 PM
The warrior draws his sword out (slowly and in a non-offensive manner seeing the recent events). He runs his hand down the length of it's blade. "So what do you think, my swift friend? Would you like this good mage to try and give you more powers? I will keep you as you are if you want.". Pausing a moment, he continues "You know, I still haven't thought of a good name for you. Last we spoke of it you said you would let me decide. I want it to be special so I've not been hasty. I'll think harder.". He listens a moment to whatever it might say and then sheathes it well before they approach the cave entrance.
DM Kent Wednesday April 4th, 2001 9:30:08 PM
Hatchme leads you all into the cavern, which you find has had some major work done to it. In fact there is no way that it could have been done in the short time the drow have been here. He tells you as you walk along that thee is a day of games and challenges arranged to start after lunch and then a big celebratory dinner later that night and that while not required, you may partake in the games if you wish or just watch. He kind of grins as he says this. He leads you quite aways into the cavern system and there has been a lot of excavation done to open up this series of caves. He leads you to a side passasge and ultimately to the entrance of a small cave 60x80x40 and lets you know that these are your quarters. he points out the light stones and explains how to use them. He also shows you a hand sized porous rock that he says that if you need someone you can peak into and someone will be with you shortly. Lastly, before he leaves he says that to get back to the surface, just stick to the main passages and always turn left. As he leaves he asks if there is anything he can do for you.
Teko Wednesday April 4th, 2001 11:01:56 PM
When Teko hears Tericus's comment, he bursts out laughing. "I'm sorry Tericus," Teko says, "what you said struck me as...well, obviously, as funny. You sounded like a cross between my mother and my mentor. And you're right of course, just as they were." Later, after Teko is shown their underground quarters, he says to Hatchme, "Could I have some fresh water to drink? And some tea, if you have it. Drow blends would be an exciting change."
Tericus Thursday April 5th, 2001 7:54:33 AM
"Well, someone has to look after us." Tericus says. "With all the monsters and evil we fight, wouldnt it be ironic if one of us perished because he wasnt taking care of himself?"
Onrad Thursday April 5th, 2001 10:56:16 AM
Onrad sprints for the cave leaving the others behind. Then he turns and shouts, "It's party time! No worries today! Just time to relax and play. C'mon!"
He does some cartwheels around Tericus and begins pushing him towards the fun.
nonam Thursday April 5th, 2001 11:15:26 AM
Nonam takes Onrad's advice and relaxes by sitting down and studying the light stone to see if he can figure out how it was made.
Gareth Thursday April 5th, 2001 2:45:41 PM
The warrior puzzles over his sword's silence. "Usually more talkative than this...". He relaxes with the others as he waits for the festivities to begin - not sure he wants to compete against those he is helping out. He sits quietly as he remembers those he has killed - hoping he will see them again alive and well soon.
Jus Thursday April 5th, 2001 3:46:19 PM
Jus looks over Nonam's shoulder at the rock. "I've been considering making things like that. It would be more fun and creative than swords and armor."
Jus sits down with his back against the wall and looks around. "Caves sure are depressing. I wish they had some rooms up in the treetops -- now that would be cool! They could even get some of the surface elves to show them how to do it."
DM Kent Sunday April 8th, 2001 7:15:10 PM
As Hatchme leaves he points Teku toward the back of the cave, where there is a small spring. A few moments later, a young drow shows up with several different teas and two large pots of hot water.
The day passes quietly in whatever manner you choose. Nonam after studying and playing with the light stones have partial idea of how they might work, in that it has to be some sort of modified light spell, that is keyed to close or possibly contact body heat.
As Gareth settles down a familiar voice pipes in just as he starts to doze off."So, I'm not good enough now, Huh?" I save your bacon day after day and this is the thanks I get. You want to do experiments on me?
DM Kent Sunday April 8th, 2001 7:17:11 PM
The evening comes faster than you realize and several young drow show up at you cave to tell you that dinner will star in about an hour, and that if you want to bathe they will show you the way.
Tericus Monday April 9th, 2001 9:57:49 AM
"I need some freshing up." Tericus says to one of the youngsters. "Show me where I need to go."
Gareth Monday April 9th, 2001 10:59:08 AM
The warrior smiles as he finally hears from his friend. He closes his eyes and replies in thought to his closest companion. "You have helped me for a long time, my friend. I only wish to give you something in return for your help. Would you not like to be more powerful? As I said, I'll be glad to keep you as you are. Just thought you might have ambitions of your own. Do you care that other swords can do more than you? If not, forget it. But if so, I have pesuaded my friend Nonam to help you out.".
As the drow attend them, Gareth makes his way to the baths.
Onrad Monday April 9th, 2001 1:30:52 PM
Speaking to Gareth's sword, "Yeah. Nonam. You know, the mage that turns his hair colors when he casts? The one that likes to blow up things with fireballs? Yeah, he'd do a great job on you!"
Satisfied with giving Gareth a bit of trouble since he won't relax and have any fun, Onrad jumps into the bath splashing everyone.
Teko Monday April 9th, 2001 9:08:25 PM
Teko thanks the young Drow for the teas and samples them all. When Teko hears of the opportunity to clean up, he says, "Now a bath would be pleasant." He looks at himself, sniffs, and continues, "VERY pleasant. For all involved, I think." Grinning he heads for the water.
Jus Monday April 9th, 2001 9:14:28 PM
"Tericus, could you or some of the priests here figure out what was being looked for in our possessions the other day. That ransacking was a way too strange -- since nothing was taken."
Nonam Tuesday April 10th, 2001 7:17:02 AM
Nonam cleans up for dinner, and after Onrad's comment, he makes certain that his head is cleanly shaved.
Onrad Tuesday April 10th, 2001 10:44:41 AM
Onrad gives Nonam's head a rub and greets him on the way to supper. He bows to Gareth's sword. He takes Teko and Tericus' arms and in a joyous mood, leads the way to supper.
"I hope the Matron is in a more chipper mood this evening."
He bows and shows respect to the drow, thinking that they deserve it more than his own kind did the previous day.
"I love court and hobnobbery. It's the politics I hate. And I simply must have a break from being resonsible from time to time. I hope I wasn't getting to difficult to deal with yesterday."
DM Kent Tuesday April 10th, 2001 7:26:49 PM
All bathe and make ready for dinner. Those who search for answers about searched items, find out there is neither rhyme nor reason for the items touched examined. Something touched were magical but many were not. All the items, however, show some taint of scrying magic.
You are led to a very large cavern lit with what seem to be chandeliers suspended from air, The tbles and chairs are set up in a very formal fashion. A bit surprised you are led to the right side of the Head Table just to the left of the Matron and her daughters. You notice that one of her daughters is very pale looking and is not talking much. She looks familiar to gareth who reognizes her as one he slew.
The dinner starts out with a fiery elven liqueur accompanied by gingered fire lizard eggs, spiced roasted giant striped fungi, and salamander roe. As the appetizers are removed and the liqueur finnished, wine glasses are brought out and filled with an almost black liquid that when tasted reminds you of cool, moonless, fall nights. Accompanying this wine is a lichen and roasted, larvae salad served with a tangy and slightly fruity dressing, reminiscent of both cranberries and kiwi.
After the salad the black wine is refilled, several musicians come out to a small stage in the center of the room and start playing a number of unfamiliar songs. The artists are unbelievably good and while they are playing you could literaly hear the person across the hall breathing. As the musicians finish playing the servants sweep out and remove your glasses and replace them with new ones filled with a clear, odorless liquid and what turns out to be strips of fried, honeyed swet potatoes. The clear liquid turns out to be a sharp contrast in flavor to the sweetnees of the potatoes and carries quite a whallop. As soon as the potatoes are finished the plates are whisked away and replaced with a plate covered with a slab of roasted meat, some horseraddish laced potatoes and some braised and wilted, bitter, greens. This is served with a full bodied, deep red almost purple wine, that reminds you of mountains far in the north. While everyone is eating their main course some musicians come back on stage to play while you eat. Some of the tunes are familiar and others are just down right odd. As the main coarse is completed the musicians exit and are replaced by a group of formal dancers. Their movements are so graceful and synchronized as to make you think all their body parts are connected. As the dancers finish, The servants are back doig their thing, clearing dishes and replacing them with desert, which is a luminescent green, pudding-like substance that has no particular flavor but rather changes with every bite. It is served with a highly sweet pink wine that emphasizes each flavor change. After the desertis completed and removed, fruit, chees and an after dinner cordial is brought out and place before you. Almost immediately a hush comes over the hall as the Matron stands.
Tericus Wednesday April 11th, 2001 9:13:41 AM
"I can try some divinations later Jus." Tericus tells him right before they all go to the party. he thouroughly enjoys himself until the Matron stands up. based on the reaction of everyone else, Tericus wonders whats about to happen, and if its good for his friends
Nonam Wednesday April 11th, 2001 11:28:18 AM
Nonam, chatting casually with those around him, tries his best to avoid any wine or liquor throughout the meal. When the matron finally stands, he turns and listens attentively.
Gareth d20+4=15 Wednesday April 11th, 2001 12:37:33 PM
The warrior tries all the foodstuffs presented and does his best to enjoy all of them. He loosens up and eats and drinks a great deal - unlike Nonam. He is quite relieved to see the daughter who is back from the dead. He nods to her, smiles, and if it is possible to speak to her says softly "I am glad to see you back. I want to tell you how sorry I am for attacking you. I'm sure you already know this, but I wanted to tell you myself anyway. It is my hope you can forgive me my mistake some day.".
Gareth Wednesday April 11th, 2001 12:37:58 PM
(CHA check DC 15)
Onrad the Joyous! Wednesday April 11th, 2001 1:19:34 PM
Onrad tries everything. Being totally honest with his opinions of it. He squinches up his eyes when he finds out what some of the stuff he's eating truly is. However, if the honorable Millithorian people can eat it and call it a feast, so can he.
By the end of the meal, he is slightly topsy, letting his emotions loose as one song reminds him of home.
He sees Nonam refraining and decides that's ok too.
Somewhere during the meal he was heard to comment, "Kill 'em and date 'em Gareth, at your service....there he goes. I wonder if she'll say yes."
Jus Wednesday April 11th, 2001 2:33:42 PM
Jus listens to those around him, encouraging them to talk more than he. He seems a little uncomfortable, maybe even a little embarassed, although he is doing a decent enough job of covering it up that only his friends would notice.
When the Matron begins talking, Jus puts his glass down and listens attentively.
Teko Wednesday April 11th, 2001 10:00:37 PM
Teko, too, samples everything brought to him, but devotes most of his attention to watching the entertainment. "I feel like getting up and joining in," he says, "but I don't think it's safe to assume that everyone wants to watch comedy. It's beautiful." He watches, entranced. He waits in eager anticipation as the Matron prepares to speak.
Matron Millithor (DM Kent) Thursday April 12th, 2001 8:16:11 AM
"Family, and honored guests. Tonite we celebrate a great many things, all of which lead to and demand a new way of life. We are self-exiled from our homeland and from the way of life that are ancestors ahave lived for thousands of years. To those who remain below we are dead, and Yet, we still live. We are living above ground, but we stil live. Our homes may have changed, even our lives and the ways that we do things, but WE have not changed and we still live. Much odf what we had we had to leave behind. In return we have found much, not to mention our true freedom. There are many to thank for this freedom, starting with each and everyone of you. Each of you has been loyal and supportive, even when facing the unknown and certain exile or death if we failed. For this each and every one of you has my undying gratitude and that of my daughters. But we could not have done this alone. In fact without the help and approval of our new allies, we would all be dead or enslaved. We have a hard, rough road ahead and we will need help. That help will have to come from those that we often called enemiy and tried to kill on sight. It will be hard for us all too put aside our predjuices and hatred, but we must if WE are to survive in our new home. In that vein we have with us tonite one of the groups, instrumental in our leavetaking and I would like to take this moment to bring them up front and thank them. .....
Nonam Thursday April 12th, 2001 10:35:17 AM
Nonam looks around to see which family members will be called forward.
Tericus Thursday April 12th, 2001 5:37:26 PM
Why would they be thanking us now? Tericus wonders to himself, After we just killed a few of them, even though it was on accident
Gareth Thursday April 12th, 2001 9:36:08 PM
The warrior waits and watches. Trying to notice the reaction of those in the room.
Teko Thursday April 12th, 2001 11:04:51 PM
Teko watches to see just who is being called forward. He remains as still as ever.
Jus Friday April 13th, 2001 4:49:14 AM
Jus watches the Matron to see if she acknowledges the Three. There were several groups that helped -- including her own daughters -- and Jus would hate to be presumptuous in thinking this gathering was just for the Three.
If she does nod, or somehow indicate she was referring to The Three, Jus stands and walks to her, quietly encouraging his friends to do the same.
Onrad Friday April 13th, 2001 8:23:46 AM
Onrad nearly chokes on the realization that they are to be the honored ones of this ceremony. Unless this is a veiled attempt to insult us and call someone else forward. He composes himself.
He sends mental thoughts toward the group to remain humble and poised. Nothing but humility. He thinks it so hard that it inadvertantly comes out as a whisper.
"...must be humble."
Matron Millithor (DM Kent) Friday April 13th, 2001 9:35:02 AM
Kinsmen and clan, I would like to introduce you to the top side Adventuring Group called The Three. As she calls each of you, she motions for you to rise and approach. Apparitionist Teacup, called Teko. Canon Tericus, Transmuter, Nonan Firstorlast, Transmuter Scout Jus, Warrior Gareth Justinian, and Lord Onrad Pryderi.
As each of you come up to the dias, She gives you a kinsman's greeting and then steps forward to speak again. "In thanks and gratitude for their aid in our endeavor and in making it possible for us to continues our lives, We would like to give them a token of our appreciation. As she finishes, six young women including her daughters step forward, each carrying a small box. Each girl approaches one of you, and with a small courtesy delivers in to your hands a small, decorative chest, weighing about 15 pounds and then whispers a quick, "Do not remove the contents of the box until you are going to use it, for it will not all go back in again once removed."
As each of you recieves your chest, Matron Millithor indicates that you should each say a few words.
Gareth d20-2=10 d20+4=16 Friday April 13th, 2001 10:16:04 AM
The warrior looks over at his comrades, clears his throat, and decides to speak first - totally oblivious to the ill feelings there were the previous day by his friends (Wis DC 10, so he failed).
He bows and then begins his improptu but eloquent speech (CHA DC 15) "I will speak for myself, but I know the others agree - and the New Elennian government. We consider it a great honor to have been able to help in your noble effort to save you family and to begin a new life. I have learned many things and seen many places and creatures I have only heard stories about. It is our sworn duty to help destroy evil and to support the government of this land. We will be at your service if the need ever rises again. Thank you for this honor you have given us.
