Aftermath

A Familiar Tune (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 11:56:18 AM

Ael becomes aware of a low tone that has been sounding since he first crouched protectively over Sir Thomas. It swells now into a full-bellied chime that seems to ring through his soul, to ring the Wold. The note spreads outward from him, lapping at each of the Southerns Lights, conveying a feeling deepest dread, of desperate hope, and of the end of all.

As the tolling fades away, the others recognize the familiar sound of the Chaos Bell . . .

Aftermath (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 12:06:26 PM

The guard snoring on the floor beside Ael snores blissfully through the commotion. The orcs in the kitchen avoid the warhorse and leave by the front door. By the time Uteva reaches the street, there are no longer any orcs in sight.

Alyndar finds that the orc on the chest is quite dead. Orc #3 is in bad shape, but stable. The other two unconcious orcs in the treasure room are bleeding heavily.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 3:04:00 PM

Sly takes the boxes and help Altemia and the others (orcs dead or alive) up into the warehouse. Sly Turns to Trace and about to ask him a question WHEN! "Big Brother" BONG! BONG! Sly drop to his knees, his hands covering his ears, "OH! the BELL! the BELL!".

And for the first time since the raid on his village, Sly fells lost, empty and so alone.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 4:35:49 PM

OOC: Sorry for there not being posting for Tema, there was a "technical error" at my end.

Altemia, still a bit disoriented but pretty much herself, get back into the crate and moves out into the warehouse. Tara jumps up the stacked boxes and joins Tema laying next to her. Kevil also come over to her whimpering softly and licking her leg.

When she hears the bell she doesn't know what to think. She looks around at the familiar people and is at a complete loss.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 6:44:05 PM

Ael moves to make sure Sir Thomas is alright, but stops, as if in a daze, when he hears the bell.

Alyndar
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 7:39:22 PM

Aly will first tie up all the non dead orcs, then he will proceed to bind their wounds.

Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 9:02:48 PM

Pryte-Honos makes his way clumsily through the hallway and into the street. He feels much more comfortable in the open area. He stands outside and tries to graze in the lawn.

Thomas catches himself with his sword as he stabs it into the ground. He forces his weak and wobbly legs to support him. "Thank you Ael, for all of your help." Treating his sword like a walking stick of sorts, Thomas makes his way up the stairs into the kitchen, through the hallway, and finally into the street.

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 11:44:33 PM

Trace begins to step up the boxes when he hears a bell begin to ring and with a sudden sickness in his stomach he rembers why it sounds familar and without thinking he instinctivly covers the blood red mark on his right hand that appeared the day he first heard that same tone. Not realizeing he is talking aloud, "Something is happening that we are not aware of but what I have no idea. Why is that tone haunting us so."

Ilsidur
Wednesday May 2nd, 2001 11:53:27 PM

Ilsidur helps Sly and Altemia move the wolf, and the unconscious and dead orcs up into the warehouse. "Careful, Sly, don't touch that chest. We don't need any more fireballs going off in the basement room. I wonder what happened to the other chest?"

Once everything is up from the basement room (except the chest, of course), Ilsidur says, "Could I suggest we strip all the orc bodies, and put all their stuff in a giant pile? Then I can scan the pile with detect magic, and see if they had anything of magical value. While you are doing that, I will go and find the others and see if they need any healing. Is that OK?"

Assuming that is acceptable to the companions in the warehouse, Ilsidur moves into the fog cloud and pushes aside the wagon, heading out into the street. He sees Sir Thomas out in the street, leaning on his new horse. "Sir Tom, what happened to you? You look like you could use some help. What can I do? Is anyone else seriously hurt?"

Uteva Nerine
Thursday May 3rd, 2001 1:04:10 PM

The sound of the Chaos Bell rolls over Uteva as she exits the house next door. Her perception stretches to enfold the Wold before snapping back to the confines of her body, and she tumbles to the porch, unable to maintain the Flying spell.

After taking a moment to reorient herself, she hurries back to the basement. "Ael? Hello in there," she says, snapping her fingers in front of the young wizard's face. Grabbing up his hand, she stares at it. "Oh, dear -- what have you done?" Her voice wavers between amusement and accusation.

She waits for him to respond, then helps him to secure his sleeping prisoner. "Let's get this fellow back to the warehouse, Ael. Trace, Sir Thomas and Sly can explain better than I can, anyway." Dragging the orc's big axe behind her, the bard prods the two of them ahead of her down the tunnel.

Body Art and Bloody Orcs (DM Lee-Anne)  d100=63 d100=33
Thursday May 3rd, 2001 2:24:16 PM

Ael and Altemia notice that they have aquired decorations, of sorts. The backs of their hands now sport a raised black tattoo in a pinwheel pattern. It's the same broken spiral design born by their companions.

Others in the party realize that their own marks have altered sometime during the last few minutes -- either fading for those with little interest in the Chaos curse, or reddening with the strength of their commitment to the struggle.

One of Alyndar's prisoners breathes his last while the wizard is occupied with tying him up. Aly may make a Heal check vs. DC 15 to stabilize the other.

Outside, the moon sets on Sir Thomas, Ilsidur, and a street thick with mid-night silence.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday May 3rd, 2001 3:34:18 PM

" The moon is setting. I wonder if the fight is over?" Sly helps with the corps of the orc (lining them in a row, for the guards to see. When there get to the warehouse.) Sly turns as Uteva and Ael ask Sly about this Tattoo on the back of their hands and the story behind it.
"I'll be glad to tell you about the Bell and the mark. Sly was holding his side (under his chainmail), he bring out his hand and show them his deep red tattoo and also the blood on it. Sly wavers a little before he falls on his knees, "I'm out of healing potion."

Thursday May 3rd, 2001 3:57:57 PM

Looking about to make sure his friends were all right, the halfling then turns his thoughts to the strange tunnel. Wondering exactly what provoked all of this the halfling sniffs the air and begins searching the tunnel down the way which bear and the other orcs fled(search 27) for anything unusual. Moving as silently as possible (19) down the hall the halfling investigates to make sure no more danger awaits them.

Ael d'Gaiaim (Tim)
Thursday May 3rd, 2001 7:09:24 PM

Ael frowns when removed from his daze; the sound which had affected him only moments before has vanished. He looks at the mark on his hand as Uteva holds it up, and blinks.

Shaking his head, he says "What was that? I felt as if I could see the world for a moment. I saw it from a different direction than I am used to...saw that everything must die. The greatest mage will fail, and the more intricate spell will be forgotten."

Sighing, he murmurs something he heard his master say often, but never understood. "We all master spells enough...to die."

Alyndar  d20+3=21 d8+3=7
Thursday May 3rd, 2001 7:59:59 PM

noticing the gurgling and sudden convulsions of one of the orcs, Aly rushes to his side and attempts to keep the orc alive. (rolled a 21 on heal check)

Through vigrous actions and time, Aly manages to keep this orc from dying, taking a vial of cure light wounds, after stabilizing the orc, Aly will massage the contents down the orcs throat. (rolled 7hp returned)

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Friday May 4th, 2001 12:09:31 AM

THomas feels the sound of the bell as it runs through his body, into his soul and back. He thought he was tired before, but now he feels as if he has been pulled through a knothole backwards. He leans heavily on Pryte-Honos. He sheaths his sword and prepares to climb into the saddle when he notices a dark red tatoo on the left hindquarter of Pryte. It is exactly the same as the one on his hand. THomas examines his hand and finds that the tattoo has darkened. At finding this Thomas kneels down in the street. Pryte kneels next to him. They sit and pray quietly for a short while. When they finish Thomas climbs onto the horses back and they ride to the warehouse. "Thank you for your concern Ilsidur my friend. My wounds are not in immediate need unless the orcs return. Help someone that has more immediate needs. I will take you upon your offer if no one else is in need though." Thomas winces at the pain that he keeps just below the surface of his stoic demeanor as Pryte-Honos makes an unexpected turn as they are about to enter the fog. Pryte-Honos is careful to avoid the wagon as they stroll in.

Trace and Radiant  d20+4=5
Friday May 4th, 2001 1:01:10 AM

Trace climbs out of the area below and sheaths his two swords. He then stretches and runs his hands throgh his hair looking around the room for anything out of the ordinary.(wow a big 5) Trace see's nothing of intrest and then climbs up on one of the crates to have a seat. As everyone works Trace keeps an eye on the hole below and the front door covered by the fog. Every once in a while checking the ropes for movement. Trace pulls out his bow and readies an arrow as he stands guard. While notching an arrow sees that red mark and darkened and is so red that it appears to have blakened. He grins as it reminded him of the way his hands looked after eating fire berrys while fishing during the warm season. Then his frown returns as he again misses his family.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Friday May 4th, 2001 6:21:22 AM

Altemia remembers the two potions that Teva gave to her. She starts to hand one to Sly when she notices the new mark on the back of her hand. Starting she mutters, "What in the Wold?" Then, speaking lounder, "Hey! Where did this come from?!?!"

She looks around at everyone else to see their reaction and to see what they are doing. Tara and Kevil crowd closer to Temia.

Ilsidur
Friday May 4th, 2001 12:48:09 PM

Ilsidur follows the paladin and his horse back into the warehouse. "Sir Thomas, how much longer do you expect this fog cloud to last? I can't believe it is going to be a permanent fixture."

Once inside, he asks the rest of the party, "Is there anyone that needs healing? I have a full complement of spells, and can help whoever needs it. Did you make the pile of gear, like I suggested?"

If the party has not yet stripped the bodies, Islidur starts taking everything off of the orc bodies, as well as the wounded orcs, and piles the dead bodies unceremoniously in the wagon in the southeast corner of the warehouse. Once that is all finished, he moves down the tunnel and into the basement, checking to make sure that all the orcs have been gathered up, and all the items collected. (Hopefully he gets some help with all of this.)

Once all of the orcs' gear is collected, he scans the pile with a detect magic spell, and gleans out the items that show as magic.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday May 4th, 2001 4:22:05 PM

Sly takes the potion from Altemia, "Thank you Little Sister and sit here with Uteva and Ael. And I'll tell you about the tattoo and the Bell of Chaos."

"It was what seem a long time ago when my village was raided and everybody disappeared without a trace. Someone mention that somebody should go to see The Wise Ones. So I went to see these witches and they ask me to go to this Monastery and bring back those that I would find there to this Inn. I did what was ask of me. When we all met in this Inn we found ourselves facing Five Wise Ones - Lady Justice - Lady Hope - and three others who's name I now forgotten. That when I notice for the first time the Tattoo on my hand. The Wise Ones told us about the Bell and when it rings, it is a sign of the Dark Lord winning one more round. It is our quest that we (the chosen ones) who has this Mark, do battle with this Dark Lord. I we lose the wold will slip into darkness of that Dark Lord and all is lost. If we win the wold is saved. it's up to us. Now looking at the tattoo that you all have means that it is your Quest also now. Welcome Brothers and Sisters to the southern Light." With this said Sly will drink the potion, " I wonder if Alyndar has any healing cookies left?"
"Ilsidur, I'm still bleeding, Please heal me."

Uteva
Friday May 4th, 2001 5:11:16 PM

Teva pats Ael's hand in reassurance. "There, you see? Sly will explain all about the Chaos Prophecy."

Leaving the young wizard with Sly and Altemia, she asks Ilsidur for help with her wounds. "That is, if your lord Marmathon Dur will oblige? And don't let Sir Thomas get away with his stoic 'Oh, no, I'm fine' routine tonight," she says, glaring sternly at the wobbling paladin. "If the 452 come back for more before dawn, we'll need everybody in good working order."

Once she's helped collect orcs alive and dead, the bard climbs onto Trace's crate and sits back to back with the Elf, so she can also keep watch. "So," she says. "We survived again."

DM Lee-Anne
Friday May 4th, 2001 5:27:02 PM

Lok notices that the walls of the dirt tunnel seem to be freshly exposed. Even the end that opens onto the basement next door is smoothly cut with the same circular cross-section. Stangely, there is no sign of digging implements, nor of the earth and stone that used to be where the tunnel is now.

When Sir Thomas tries to climb to mount his horse, the loosened saddle slides sideways and dumps him ignominiously on the ground. Again. Pryte-Honos looks suitably contrite.

Locating fallen opponents within the fog bank takes some time. With the survivors from the basement, there are a total of 7 living orcs left in the warehouse. The pile of captured equipment yields 2 white chits, 23 gold, and 12 silver coins. Ilsidur finds that two pair of bracers carry magical dwoemers. The brown leather of one pair is tooled in an elaborate design, the other pair is black with a steel filigree trim.

Altemia, Tara, Kevil
Friday May 4th, 2001 5:47:21 PM

Finally feeling like herself, Altemia stands up.

"Thanks for telling me the story Big Brother. You can bet that I am fighting this Dark Lord guy. He just doesn't sound like a pleasant fellow."

She grins at Sly and then begins to look over her compatriots. She runs her hands over her lupine friends bodies to estimate damage to them.

"Oh, by the way, I've got another one of Uteva's potions here. Does anyone want it? Kevil's not looking very well. I think he's pretty hurt inside. Tara seems to be pretty much alright."

Temia begins to look herself over too.

"Thanks whoever healed me. Did anyone happen to pick up my scimitar and sickle from downstairs? If not, I can go get them."

Ael d'Gaiaim  d20+12=16
Friday May 4th, 2001 7:06:29 PM

Ael listens to Sly's explaination, nodding absently to himself. "Well, we certainly cannot let this ruffian misuse, conceal, destroy, or otherwise maim the beauty of magic."

The young mage gets a determined look on his face and raises his fist with its new decoration. Then he notices Ilsidur and the pile, and his focus is gone. "I fear I have expended my detect magic spell for today. Can I perhaps be of assistance in uncovering the secrets inside our little treasures?"

If allowed, Ael will look them over and see if he recognises them. (OOC: Rolled arcane knowledge DC 16.)

Alyndar
Friday May 4th, 2001 9:24:54 PM

Aly yells from down in the compartment below the crate for help in bringing up the unconscious orcs, bidding the group to take care when handling the injured ones.

When all is up, Aly goes to the rest of the orcs and attempts to tend their wounds, then goes to his corner, grabs his pack, and comes back to the group.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Saturday May 5th, 2001 3:22:47 AM

Sly takes Altemia face into his handsand tell her,"Little Sister, you give that potion to your Kevil. I saw the way he was fighting for you, make him well." Then turns to to where the Bracers and tells Ael,"Maybe I can help, I can cast Detect Magic on them." SO Sly mumbles"Armor Off" instently the Armor is off and Sly cast Detect Magic on the pile of Orc goodies.

Ilsidur  2d8(3+4)+5=12 2d8(5+8)+5=18
Saturday May 5th, 2001 9:38:44 PM

Ilsidur moves over and touches Sly on the arm, casting a cure moderate wounds on the elf (giving him 12 hp back, using the 2nd level spell Bull's Rush). "Sly, I have already determined the magic items from the orcs. There are two sets of bracers that were worn by the orc wizards that detected as magic."

Then he moves over to Uteva, and casts a similar spell on the bard. (Uteva gets 18 hp back, using the 2nd level spell Speak with Animals.)

"I suggest we set up on guard again in the warehouse. We don't know what will happen again for the rest of the night. The challenge will last until the sun rises, and by my calculation, that is still a long ways away. We need two people to set up in the basement to guard the tunnel entrance and the chest. I would be willing to go down there, but I am not the best climber, nor can I move particularily quickly. I plan to set up behind my crate in front of the opening in the crate's side again."

Then, unless anyone else needs any healing, Ilsidur places the crate back on the west side of the crate, sets his loaded crossbow on top of the small crate, and settles down to wait the rest of the night. "I can't believe the entire thing only took about 5 minutes," he thinks to himself.

Trace and Radiant
Monday May 7th, 2001 1:46:08 AM

Trace turns and smiles a Teva, "Yes yet again we make it out of a bad scrape but I sure hope me getting beaten down by bear dosent become habbit. Although I feel that I have plenty of strenght, I couldnt be more sore." Trace stroks Radiants feathers as he looks on.

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos  d20=14
Monday May 7th, 2001 9:14:55 AM

With another uncharacteristic curse Thomas picks himself up off of the ground after the loose saddle dumped him on his back. The pain from the burn on his back enflames as does the wounds from multiple other bleeding wounds and cuts. Thomas walks Pryte-Honos into the warehouse and takes time to tighten the saddle. He then sits in a corner and begins to assess his injuries (OOC: rolled 14 for healing, but I'm away from my character sheet. I'll email my info later today.) "Ilsidur, if the others are sufficiently healed I could certainly use your help with my wounds. There are too many for me to deal with at once, and I can't reach the burn on my back." Thomas does what he can with his injuries, but ultimately he continues to bleed and hurt while trying to show as little pain as possible.

While he fiddles with his wounds, Thomas makes a preoccupied suggestion. "I think our best bet would be to go into the lower area. It is cramped, but that worked in the favor of the orcs. We can make it work in our favor too. If we set up on both sides of the tunnel then we can force them to come at us one at a time if they return. That improves the odds dramatically for us. Also, if we need more healing we can always send someone with some money to pick up more healing potions. I know it's late, but I'm sure a good person would help us. Also, the person that leaves will be safe from attack and we could be closer to full strength if the orcs return. Just a thought."

Uteva
Monday May 7th, 2001 12:43:34 PM

"My thanks for the healing, Ilsidur," Teva says, tucking a lock of brown hair behind one ear. "I don't recommend putting too many of us down in the treasure room. If they caught a group of us down there, they could wipe us all out with a small cask of oil and a spark. I'll take watch from the rafters again. That lantern needs refueling, anyway."

Before beginning her climb, she shares a teasing grin with Trace. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, the bruises give you a certain rakish appearance." With that, she carefully makes her way to her aerial perch.

The Night Passes (DM Lee)
Monday May 7th, 2001 1:00:51 PM

Nothing about the bracers recalls any special memory to Ael's mind.

The fog cloud disperses shortly after everyone is settled. The night passes in relative peace, with the concious orc prisoners keeping a sullen silence. Just as the watchers notice the first light of day showing at the high windows, a solid knocking sounds from outside the warehouse door.

"Northook Guard!" calls a loud female voice. "This Challenge has run its designated duration and is now ended! You will allow the Office of Champions access to the Challenge area!"

Ilsidur (by Lee)  2d8(6+2)+5=13 2d8(3+8)+5=16
Monday May 7th, 2001 1:08:45 PM

Before taking up his post by the central crate, Ilsidur expends two of his more powerful remaining spells to heal Sir Thomas. (Cure Moderate, 28 hp)

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday May 7th, 2001 3:53:41 PM

Sly Foxx is up onthe crates with he left the shield and his bow and arrows. Sly was naping with Luke. Sly and Luke sit upright when they hear the knocking on the door. "Armor On" said Sly and his armor is on instantly. "Hmmm! I wonder what Alyndar has for breakfast?".

Luke sits up and with his tong hanging out, pants.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil  d8=7
Monday May 7th, 2001 5:51:13 PM

Since she didn't see her weapons anywhere and no one said they brought them up, Altemia goes back down into the hole to grab them. When she comes back up she remembers that she dropped her sling over on the crates and goes and retreaves it too and tucks it back at her waist.

During all this Tara and Kevil have been resting together near the crates. After she climbs back down, Altemia takes the last potion and feeds it to Kevil (7 hps). Then sits down next to them to wait out the night.

She must have dozed off, because the banging on the door woke her with a start. Altemia untangles herself from the wolves and moves to the door but does not open it.

Alyndar
Monday May 7th, 2001 6:58:07 PM

Aly wakes up about an hour before the knocking on the door to start preparing breakfast. Even though it may not be the best place for it, Aly moves things around and builds a camp fire so as to not have anything catch fire.

Breakfast consists of:
Hot Kaff
Hot Tea
Aly's Homemade Biscuits
Sausage Patties
Cheese
Apples

When Sly wakes up, he sees Luke sitting with Aly, eating breakfast while Aly takes a biscuit, tears it in half, shoves a sausage pattie between the two, making a sandwich of sorts and eats it.

When Aly sees Sly awaken, he pours a hot cup of Kaff for Sly, then starts dishing out a LARGE helping of Sausages, Biscuits and a cut up apple. Then motions for everyone else to dig in.

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Monday May 7th, 2001 9:25:41 PM

"Thank you very much Ilsidur. I feel much better already." Thomas is happy that the sun has risen, but he is kind of disappointed that Bear did not show his ugly face again. However in the present state of the group he won't mention that feeling.

Thomas sat through the entire night watching around diligently. He takes the time before breakfast to pray to Alemi and separately to Domi. Upon rising from that he smiles at Aletmia, "I think it is probably ok to open up. That sounds like the captain of the guard." Thomas walks over to the door and draws his sword and nods to her. He is there and ready in case it is a trick. Pryte-Honos is only a short distance from the door, maybe 50 feet. "I'm ready to deal with them if this is a trick. Open the door when you are ready."

Ael d'Gaiaim
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 9:03:45 AM

Ael settles down to rest, but for some reason sleep evades him. Time and time again he closes his eyes, and finally he drifts off...

...to be waked by the call at the door. Getting up, and hearing Thomas' comments, he opens the door, ready for trouble...

Lok Mufflefoot
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 12:11:02 PM

Munching happily on the apples, and some hot Kaff the halfling explains his findings of the previuos night to the others.
"It's odd, it doesn't look like it was even dug. I wonder if it's been there for quite a while because we surely would have heard the sounds of it's making. But if so, why didn't they use it earlier."
The rest is lost amongst crumbs that scatter all about the halfling and he thankfully nods at Alyndar and playfully tries to take a little one of Sly's biscuits in plain site. Giggilng he winks at Sly.

Uteva
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 12:29:29 PM

The weary bard climbs down from the heights and slumps toward the back apartment. "I'm too tired just now to deal with more bureaucrats," she says, dropping into a chair at the table. "Pass the biscuits please, Lok. Thanks. As soon as we've eaten, I'm for a nap!" Teva does justice to Alyndar's spread, then curls up on one of the bunks.

Captain Berru (DM Lee-Anne)
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 12:46:59 PM

Captain Berru leads a pair of her troopers and a small army of clerks through the open door and past the wagon. She pauses to speak with Altemia, Sir Thomas and Ael while the clerks swarm through the building, collecting memory stones.

"I see you've prevailed," she says, admiring the row of trussed-up prisoners. "That's good. Did your group come through intact? We've a mortician's cart standing by."

"This lot will analyze the records of the Challenge." She indicates the clerks with the wave of one hand, then removes her helm to push at her sweaty blond hair. "Once they've confirmed that everything was conducted legally, you'll be cleared to ransom your captives. The Office of Champions can broker that for you."

Sly and Luke
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 1:52:20 PM

Luke is growling at Lok for taking Sly's biscuit. "Grrrrr!"

Sly smiles and tells Luke," Let Lok have the biscuit, But maybe you can eat all the food off his beard? Here have mine." Then Sly turns to Sir Thomas (before he opens the doors) " Sir Thomas tell that Captain of the guards where they really came in to rob Madam Chao."

And to Alyndar "Oh! Great Master, you out did yourself. Thank-you for the breakfast and everything else you have done for me and Luke. Can I have another cup of Kaff and another apple, Please?"

"Uteva if you need a little more healing, you can use my Sleepingbag of Comfort." Sly points to where the sleepingbag is at.

Luke will follow Lok, trying to clean his beard. (Luke will do this as long that there's food on him.)

Alyndar
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 4:02:57 PM

Aly watches and listens as the Captain and her entourage goes around the building and does their things. Aly will offer hot kaff and tea and sausage sandwichs to all including the Captain and when mention of brokering the captives, all can see that Aly is getting upset with that thought.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Tuesday May 8th, 2001 7:12:56 PM

Altemia steps over to the clerk to tell of her part of the Challenge that took place. Tara and Kevil have already made their way over to the food sniffing hungrily and begging. After she finishes her tale, Altemia joins them.

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 9:02:36 AM

Thomas sheathes his sword and half-heartedly yet cordially greets the guards and clerks. He goes over and partakes of Alyndar's breakfast. "MMM delicious my friend. Thank you."

Lok Mufflefoot
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 10:15:37 AM

Turning to the captain the halfling says "No need for the mortician, except if some of these smelly orcs died."

Just as he finishes saying this he falls under a heavy dog who begins licking his face profusely. From under the dog tiny legs can be seen flailing and arms trying to keep the last piece of his biscuit away from the mouth. Constant giggles can be aheard from under the pile amongst yelps of "No you can't have it" , "Don't lick my nose!", and "Not the ears!"

Ael d'Gaiaim
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 12:50:07 PM

Ael greets the guards, and relates a terse outline of the confrontation. He then slips over to partake of the remains of breakfast, quietly watching the clerks as they review the situation.

Uteva
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 4:07:39 PM

"I'm fine Sly, thanks. Try talking Thomas or Trace into it, if you can." Teva turns over and pulls a pillow over her head to drown out the sounds of the early morning tussle.

Ilsidur (by Lee)
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 4:12:40 PM

Ilsidur points out the wagon in the back corner, in which the dead orcs are piled. "We'll be well rid of those, but do we have to keep the live ones? They're stinking up the room."

Catching sight of Alyndar's expression, he raises his brows. "Problem?"

Captain Berru (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 4:32:02 PM

The clerks wave off tales of the Challenge, muttering that their stones will provide sufficient information. They scamper out with their trays half-filled with memory rocks, to collect those set outside the warehouse. A pair of youths haul away the deceased in a low-slung and sleak black cart.

Captain Berru, on the other hand, is very interested in the tunnel, and insists on climbing down to see for herself. She gives a low whistle, but says only, "Domi, that's tight quarters." She flips a respectful salute at the room in general before leading guards and clerks off down the street.

"Luke get off Lok," Sly said as he takes the dog off of his little friend. "I think he as enough of you washing his face, nose and ears."

Sly takes three pieces of beef jerky and gives them to Luke and the two wolves. "I'll take you all for a walk later."

Then ask Sir Thomas,"Are we going to have those orcs on our hands? You know how we elves feel about orcs?".

Altemia, now with food in her stomach, settles down and begins to look over her weapons for damage and dullness. She pulls out her whetstone and sharpens them up best she can. She watches the two wolves with a smile on her face as the two of them try to wheedle more jerky out of Sly.

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 9:04:53 PM

As Thomas finishes eating he responds to Sly, "Yes Sly, I think that we do have these orcs on our hands. I believe that was the insinuation. My largest concern is that these evil beings will only hurt someone else if we let them go, so I feel it is our responsibility to try to eliminate the possibility of that occuring. I don't think selling them back to their group is an option at all. I don't know what to do with them. I think we should consider send them packing without thumbs because then we can rest assured that they'll have a hard time using a weapon. Another option we have is we could send them packing as they are and warn them, but I don't think a slap on the wrist will do the trick. Or we could sell them to the city if it is willing to buy. Or a passing caravan that is currently in the city for cheap labor. I really don't know. What are your thoughts on this group?

Alyndar
Wednesday May 9th, 2001 11:35:40 PM

upon the conclusion of Sir Thomas' comment Aly raises a hand. Whne he has attention of whoever cares Aly responds:

My friends, tonight we have redeemed ourselves and once again have risen to the challenge set before us and suceeded. I congratulate all of you for a job well done. Alt, you gave me quite a scare back there but I am very happy to see you through it. I think we all need a slap on the back. <goes around slapping everyone on the back> Now, to the items at hand. In regards to the captives, <motioning to the tied up orcs>, I say we do this. 1. we do not stoop to their level in deciding what to do with them, it would be them who would sell us to slavery or a work gang, justice needs to be done. And if you all remember, the merchants said this group was pretty much forcing protection on all of them. My idea is this, take them to the city jail, send out requests of the merchants to come and identify these orcs and if they were involved in the scams against the merchants, let them be punished accordingly. 2. Let us officially declare a name for our adventuring group and have it registered, being a generic name and # has no zip to it. and lastly 3. Let us find the woman who owns this place and get our reward from her for protecting her place and defending her honor and lets leave. This city is growing on my nerves and I long for the open road.

Trace stands and stretches, "Well I think half of us should get some sleep while the other half takes care of some of the duties such as a ransom and healing supplies. I will sleep or pull duties either one no matter to me." Trace thinks about what Teva said then goes searching for a mirror.

"Maybe the one's merchants identify we should force to clean up their shops before ransoming them." the halfling pipes up wiping the dog licks from his face.

Aside to Sly the halfling whispers "That dogs a good guard dog, he'll lick us dangerous halflings to death if we come near your biscuits. Actually" the halfling looks about the room at his companions and their pets. "Wonder if i could find a pet in this city before we leave?"

The halfling will ask their hostess before they leave where he could find a friendly squirrel or perhaps a rabbit or hamster.

Moving over to Ael aside the halfling says quietly "You seem to know a lot about the arcane and know a lot more than I. Any chance you recognize this dagger as anything other than a nice piece of stabbing fun?"

With that the halfling takes the sharp dagger he'd retrieved from the many armed brother of Bear out, and offers it to Ael to see if he recognizes it.

After a short nap, Teva rejoins the discussion, yawning and carding her hair back into place. "Any sign of Madame Chloe, yet? After all the trouble she went to to protect her precious treasure, I rather thought she'd be here to check on it, first thing."

Ilsidur (by Lee)
Thursday May 10th, 2001 6:17:29 PM

Ilsidur shakes his head, slowly. "I'm not ready to leave town. We came here for information -- information that we haven't got. We have items to identify, gems to sell, and I still want to get a look at the Market."

A Delegation at the Door (DM Lee-Anne)
Thursday May 10th, 2001 6:25:31 PM

After the city has awakened for the day, but still rather early in the morning, a call sounds from the doorway. "Hello, in there! A word with the victorious Champions, if we may?" A man stands in the open door, very tall, with a short dark beard. He wears a stained apron over the clothes of a prosperous merchant. A small group of people stands arrayed behind him in the street.

"You know if you could impress a weasel" Sly is telling Lok," A weasel likes the dark as well as the day light. It is very loyal, frisky and a little bit of a thief, but a little bit of training weasel would make a very good pet."

Then Sly look down at Lok Special Knife, " OH! my I drop my special knife down in the cellar." Said Sly, "I must go down and get it." Sly gets up to go and retrieve that special knife. Turns to Ael and tells him, " Ask Alyndar about the Deck of Cards, maybe you can tell what they are? They do have some magic, but we don't know what kind?"

"Alyndar Look Who knocking at the warehouse door? The Merchants..." Sly goes to retrieve his weapon in the cellar.

Trace and Radiant
Thursday May 10th, 2001 8:09:38 PM

Trace rolls his eyes at the group standing at the door but not in their view, he thinks to himself, flattery is allways followed by a request. Trace then pipes up, "I would like to do some shoping in this shop as well. Maybe there is some magical rings for protection or magical armor. Something to prevent all those bear hugs."

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Thursday May 10th, 2001 10:43:27 PM

Thomas bows to Alyndar for his wisdom. "You are correct my friend. Thank you for your guiding light." To the rest of the group who continues to talk about ransom, "I don't think Alyndar had the idea of ransoming these to the city jail. I think he intended that they should be held as suspects of a crime. And I too long for the open road. I have a strong need to visit a temple to Alemi. My need and desire is very strong and if I don't get there soon I don't know what I'll do. If you have shopping to do I suggest you go do it, or we can go as a group. I would like to look at the supply of weaponry that this city holds as soon as Chloe rewards us. I am still in a lot of pain, despite Ilsidur's healing powers, but I am most anxious to ride out as soon as possible." Thomas begins taking off his armor as he is speaking. Once off he begins to clean and dress his wounds. After taking care of himself, Thoams begins to clean his armor with a well used rag from his backpack. He removes the pieces of his flesh that are charred to the metallic surface from the lightning bolt of Void and tries to make it as shiny as the well used piece could possibly look.

Altemia listens to the talk of what to do with the prisoner orc, but doesn't offer her opinion. She could care less what they do with them.

Hearing the people at the door, she looks at her friends and shrugs, then goes to the door.

"Yes?"

Alyndar
Thursday May 10th, 2001 11:53:28 PM

Looks at Sly and says: what's this talk of a magic Deck of Cards? and what of these 2 pairs of Bracers that had an Aura of magic on them.

Aly will take the 2 pairs of bracers and examine them.

Upon hearing the voice from the doors, he turns and awaits.

Upon Lok's request, Ael examines the Dagger in an attempt to identify it. (Arc Knowledge)Failing that, he will offer to cast the appropriate spells (Identify) when the situation permits.

Perking up at Sly's comment, Ael mutters "Deck of cards? Interesting, Intreging. I am curious. Might I examine it with my Elven colleague? Perhaps we can shed some light on the situation."

When the delegation arrives, the mage will act accordingly, listening intently and making no comment (unless of course someone mentions magic.)

The halfling wiggles his ears mischeviously and winks at them.

A little wary, Teva joins the people grouped at the door. "A good morning to you. How can we help you folks today?"

Friday May 11th, 2001 6:36:58 PM

Out of earshot of the warehouse door, Ilsidur fetches the small, leather-wrapped packet of cards for Alyndar and Ael to examine. "Do you recognize this, Alyndar? It was in a sack of feed when we came through the city gates. The deck is magical, but its purpose is hidden from me."

He leaves them to it for a moment to pull Sir Thomas aside. "I've more healing spells available. I didn't realize you were still hurting badly." He twice casts Cure Light Wounds on the paladin. (19 HP) "How's that?"

A Delegation at the Door (DM Lee-Anne)

The aproned man smiles. "I'm Sieur Lukor," he says, holding out a big hand to shake. "Viands Exotic across the way is my shop. These others here are all citizens of this block. Some of us talked with your Mufflefoot the other day. Likeable fellow, if you understand me. We've an urgent need to replace our Champion group, and we're hoping -- that is, you folks have done well by Madame Chloe -- and we'd like to know if you'll consider taking the job, if you understand me?"

The other murchants murmur agreement. One woman by Lukor's elbow catches sight of the bound orcs, and looks worried. She tugs her neighbour forward to point them out to her, and they both retreat to report what they saw in loud whispers.

While all this is going on, Captain Berru returns with a pair of troopers and pushes to the fore of the crowd.

Neither Ael nor Alyndar recognize anything special about the bracers and daggers.

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Friday May 11th, 2001 11:22:14 PM

At Uteva's words Thomas' face brightens despite all other things that are on his mind. When Ilsidur tries to heal Thomas again he takes a single step back and raises an appreciatively declining hand. "Thank you again my friend, but there is not much more help that your magic can do for me. My pain stems from the fact that some of the wounds were very serious. I will keep some scars from this fight even if you were to heal me completely of my injuries. Thank you, but keep your spells until they are more urgently needed." [OOC: Keep this spells if it is possible, otherwise I'll take what healing I can. Let me know.]

"With that said, I must excuse myself of your presence my friends. I must spend the rest of the day in the house of my Lord and Master, Alemi. I will return here around dusk." Thomas returns his freshly polished armor to his body slowly and meticulously. He then checks Pryte-Honos' saddle and bit and all the buckles involved in keeping it securly on the back of his friend. He then mounts the steed and rides proudly out of the warehouse. On the way out he addresses the mob of local merchant shop owners. "Can you please give me directions to the nearest House of Alemi?"

Trace and Radiant

Trace keeps eyes on the windows and the basement down below. Trace then turns to Uteva and speeks quitely into her ear, "We cannot accept this offer to defend them. We need to find information on the sudden rise in orc population and how it is affecting this area. We have promises to keep back in the forest. I wonder if one day we will need one of us to step forward and truly lead us? Do you think this rotation of responsability will work forever? I see that it is working now but in time of war there needs to be one leader so that there is no second guessing on suggestions and plans that are laid out. It seems to me that we are allways shooting our cross bows form the hip instead of looking ahead and aim for any amount of time. Will our luck continue? I think not and I think the time for us to choose a leader is nearing and that leader should not waiver in any directions given. Once all opinions given then the leader should lay out a plan of action. I am worried that one day we will stray from our primary task at hand and our mission in life will be lost. So far we have had a deformed orc named bear to keep throwing us back on track, but oneday he wont be able to tuck tail and run and then what? Will our trial go cold? Then agian maybe I am putting too much into this and just roll with the punches, sort of speek." Radiant sits perched on Trace's shoulder with his head tilted sideways as a long rambeling of speech rolls out. Trace continues to watch over the area with his bow and an arrow notched and ready.

Aly goes back to the cleaning up of the dishes after breakfast. Feeding the leftovers to our four-legged compatriots. When all is complete there Aly gets a detachment of guards to help him escort the Orcs to the city Jail. Then will return to his wagon, sets up his bedroll, and goes to sleep just as weariness hits him.

When Aly awakes, he will study his spellbook, then get a bath someplace, and change into fresh cloths, then will head to the market to resupply his wagon.

Sly now makes his way back up (from the cellar) with his special knife. Holding the knife up so that Uteva and Trace, "This knife may yet be useful, it work in a small part with Bear to see that his Brother was dead. But now we have another brother Void to deal with." Sly sits at the opening of the crate ready to get out, " I'm with you Brother Elf, we should have a leader. BUT not me, don't know that much about fighting yet. There's a big difference between fighting Orc in the village and the Orcs out here in the wold. You were with the group when we first met, WHY don't you be leader you make a good one. Then again so was Sir Thomas he also make a good one and Alyndar he's old enough but he a wizard not a fighter." Sly turns to go but changes his mind, and turns back to Trace," I know this, OUR Quest is not in Hook City. The Dark Lord is still out there, WAITING for us."

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Monday May 14th, 2001 6:18:45 AM

Altemia watches as a couple of the merchants leave. She wonders what they were whispering about to each other.

Seeing Captain Berru and a few soldiers return, Altemia heads over to their direction.

"Hello again Captain. What now in this Challenge? Or are we finished?"

Uteva  d20+12=24
Monday May 14th, 2001 1:58:13 PM

Teva turns away from the door to listen seriously to Trace and Sly, occasionally nodding. She replies as quietly. "At least part of our quest lies in Hook City, Sly. We came here for information, remember, and possibly for help. Let's find out what we can about the movements of the raiders and slavers throughout this area. The more we learn, the better our chances of getting at the heart of the problem, rather than charging around and nipping at the flanks." The young woman pantomimes stabbing and biting with her freckled hands to emphasize her point.

"You're both right about this leadership issue: we should deal with it soon. We've done fine when we have had leisure to plan things out beforehand, but if ever we need to decide in a hurry . . ." She pauses, frowning. "Let me send these folk on their way, so that we can discuss the other more fully."

Wearing a polite smile, the bard returns to the door and the gathered merchants. "Sieur Lukor, you flatter us by your confidence in our abilities. Under other circumstances, we would be happy to help, but I'm afraid we must respectfully refuse your offer. My companions and I remain in Hook City only long enough to complete some pressing business. I hope that you are able to find more suitable champion protection than the orcs have provided." (Diplomacy result of 24)

He joins the quiet discussion by the doorway, listening intently, but saying little.

As The Hook Twists (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday May 14th, 2001 3:10:26 PM

When Alyndar makes his request, the Guard looks puzzled. "Why? What law did your prisoners break? I thought they were busy with a Challenge last night. Whatever it is, you'd better report it to my captain first."

He gestures toward Captain Berru, who stands off to one side with Altemia, looking harried. Berru nods in reply to the druid's question. "In a manner of speaking," she answers wryly. "The original Challenge ended at dawn. The word is, the 452 used an illegal spell. That give you cause to claim grievance, so if you want it, there could be a Counter-Challenge."

She shrugs before calling out, "Hold up, Sir Thomas! I'm expecting the Court Monitor. He wants to talk to you all together."

Meanwhile, Uteva's words spark quite a reaction among the merchants. Some look disappointed; a few -- annoyed. Their most common expression is one of panic. The butcher confers briefly with his neighbours. "We beg you to reconsider. Without protection, we -- and our families, homes and businesses -- are left vulnerable. If you would only agree to help us until we find a permanent group, even for a few days, we'll see that you profit from your generosity." Lukor gnaws at his lower lip. "Please. It would hardly be more trouble than remaining as Chloe's personal champions for the same time."

Captain Berru steps forward at this. "That's not entirely true," she says. Her calm voice carries across the small crowd. "Madame Chloe is beyond Champion help; she was murdered last night. Now, Citizens, if you'll return to your business, my troopers have some questions for each of you." Her troops herd the suddenly quiet merchants away.

Monitor Faston arrives on the heels of this announcement. He pulls the door closed and faces the group, holding a small gold-trimmed case in his hands.

Alyndar
Monday May 14th, 2001 5:01:16 PM

Aly begs a moment of the Captains time. In regards to these prisoners, it is true we had a challenge and they were part of it, but isnt the challenge against Us? not tunneling their way into the area below that crate to steal a chest? Where I come from that is vandalism of property And attempted theft, and the fight that ensued from it, was it too not a crime?

Sly Foxx and Luke

Sly Smiles at Uteva, as she walk away from them both. "Ahh! Yes! We do have some unfinish business. I almost fogot about our little very headstrong, play mate SLAVE. He He I wonder what happen to her? And I wonder if her brother is still in Jail?" Sly turns and ask Trace," Are we going to stay for awhile? Might as well make a little money for our war chest?."

Sly then takes Luke for a bath out back, and takes two towels (one for Luke and one for himself)

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Monday May 14th, 2001 7:42:43 PM

At the call and the added intrigue of a counter-challenge, Thomas causes Pryte-Honos to make an aboutface. They head back to stand in front of captain Berru. "I would like to hear more about this counterchallenge. Does it mean that we fight all of the orcs again, or only the one that cast the illegal spell? What will be done about the attempted theft? Who's house is it that stands next door to the warehouse? I broke into it on the hunch that the orcs were located in it. I was correct. What do I need to do for the owner to right that action? On a final note I hope that you see what lies in the hearts of this groups of orcs and that you are doing what you can to remove them from the employ of the city so they cannot repeat something like this again. You should feel somewhat responsible for all of this for not taking good measure to understand those that you hire." After his short interrogation and reprimand Thomas hushes and listens.

Ilsidur
Monday May 14th, 2001 9:36:17 PM

Ilsidur says, to no-one in particular, "So many hooks, so little time."

"Trace and Uteva, are you really sure we want a leader to give orders to the party? I am way too independent to have any of you tell me what to do. If we need to decide what to do in a hurry, we should likely carry on the way we normally have; each of us deciding what we do best and carrying it out. We always shout ideas and suggestions to each other, but I am not ready to give control over to any one person in our group, so that only one voice decides what will happen."

"I suggest we act as Protectors for these good people for the next few days, until they can find a suitable group. While we are carrying that out, we can each do some snooping around in the city. I still want to find out what those cards do, and I have a couple of names of people that may be able to help me out with that information. I also would like to acquire some more crossbow bolts. I managed to fill the basement wall and floor with a good portion of my existing stock."

Turning to Captain Berru and the Monitor, Ilsidur asks, "What happened to Madame Chloe last night? Do you have investigators looking into the cause of her death? Does she have any heirs? Also, we need to know more information about this counter-challenge. How exactly does this work?"

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday May 15th, 2001 7:47:46 AM

Well little brother, it seems that the leader idea will have to take a back seat for a while. I guess we can serve as protectors for the next couple of days while we hunt down the information we came for.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Tuesday May 15th, 2001 1:59:52 PM

At Captain Berru's words, Altemia looks startled.

"Madame Chloe was murdered?! How? Who? and what about her warehouse and shop? Is there someone who will take it over?"

She looks around at the others in the warehouse and thinks about the damage that was caused and her own near injuries.

"I am not sure about a counter-challenge. Could you explain it to me?"

Uteva
Tuesday May 15th, 2001 3:06:29 PM

Seeing a lengthy discussion in the making, Uteva hops onto the end of one of the armour dispaly tables and folds her legs beneath her. "I'm willing to become Block Protectors -- as long as our employers understand that when we're ready, we're leaving town. I don't want to be held here by unwanted responsibility. Maybe we can lean on them to look hard for a permanent solution."

She props her elbows on her knees, and her chin in her hands. "I'd like to take about a week to ask around about . . ." She glances over at the bound orcs, and hastily rewords her sentence. "To find the information we came for. Do we have to make this counter-challenge? How badly do we want back at Bear and his crew? Because we've been in Hook City for three days, and so far all we've done is play with orcs and wait on bureaucrats." With a grin and a twinkle in her eye, she continues, "Not that I think killing orcs is a waste of time . . ."

A Sudden Hookfall (DM Lee-Anne)
Tuesday May 15th, 2001 3:42:37 PM

Captain Berru hands Alyndar a scroll affixed with the seal of the Office of Champions. "That should answer most of your questions, and your friends' questions about the counter-challenge. Sir Thomas, I suggest you direct your reprimand at the orcs' employers -- the residents of this block. Your employer was stabbed last night in her bed at the Inn of the Mad Jester. The investigation is currently on hold. Monitor Faston?"

The Court Monitor clears his throat and smoothes his beard with one hand. "Ah, well. The late Madame Chloe had no life insurance, no family, and no will. She did, however, have heirs. That's why I have come. In point of fact," and, again, he clears his throat, "as her Personal Champions of record, you are they. Her heirs, that is. Her estate devolves to you.

"This presents a legal problem." Faston exchanges an unreadable glance with Captain Berru. "Only Citizens of Hook City may own property within its walls. I am authorized to award citizenship immediately to one of your number. You must choose among you whom this will be."

Alyndar
Tuesday May 15th, 2001 4:02:25 PM

I'll accept citizenship, if the group will allow it. I feel this town might be a place to come to enhance my abilities as both a Wizard And Chef. As for protecting this community, I too think we should accept until a proper group of protectors are found.

Aly stands there, looking at the group, paper in hand.

Deep in his throat the halfling growls something awful. Standing up at the news and coming directly to the captain the serious little one says "I want to inspect the body."

Uncharacteristically he spits and says "To think of someone doing such a thing."

As the rest speak he mentions his assent to being the town protectors and the little one can be heard mumbling something. He speaks once more simply saying "after I take a look at the body I will do some snooping for us all." the halfling's ears seem sharp and not cute at all then "I'll get to the bottom of this."

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Tuesday May 15th, 2001 5:38:42 PM

Having nothing to say to Captain Berru's redirection of his reprimand Thomas pulls on Pryte-Honos' reigns so that he will backup and then addresses the group. "I like Uteva's terms to the block championship, but I would also like to add that all important information of our employment be made public information. I don't want people sneaking up on us again and then claiming it is our fault. Plus, don't we need to be employed to remain in the city? Also, on a personal note, I would like full retribution from Bear. He should not be allowed to continue as he has in the past. If it is our legal right I would like to see that he get what he deserves. Let's wrap this meeting up though because I really would like to spend the rest of the day at Alemi's house. Lastly, I think we have our candidate for citizenship." Thomas winks at Alyndar as he says the last sentence. Thomas makes a mental note to pray for Chloe in his evening prayers.

Ael glances at Alyndar and smiles. "You have my ballot as well. While I would deeply enjoy living here, personally I am not quite ready to settle down yet."

"I am prepared for a counter-challenge, if you all wish it. I will have to go shopping, and make a few changes to my spell roster, however...And I do not think that the resonance field set by my sleep spell functioned as well as it ought to."

The mage continues to mumble on, oblivious to the world around him.

Altemia's eyes fasten on the scroll that Alyndar is handed, but are torn away at the mention of someone becoming a citizen.

"Well, if for some reason you change your mind about become a citizen, Alyndar. I'll do it. I actually don't live too far from the city myself."

"Actually, I need to do a bit of shopping myself. I think I'll leave the wolves here. They need to sleep some. Neither of them are completely well yet."

Ilsidur
Wednesday May 16th, 2001 12:38:49 PM

Ilsidur moves up beside Alyndar. "Could I see that pamphlet as well? So, you want to be a citizen of Hook City. Does that mean you have to stay in the city? You may want to think it over before you decide."

Then he turns back to the Monitor. "What do you mean the investigation of Madame Chloe's death is currently 'on hold'? Will anyone from the city be looking into her death? Or will we, as her protectors, be responsible for trying to find out what happened?"

Uteva
Wednesday May 16th, 2001 2:40:00 PM

"Alyndar, you're welcome to the citizenship if you want it. You're more likely to fit in here than most of us." Teva grins at the mage and rolls her eyes. "I'll tell our lucky neighbours that we've decided to accept the job, and I'll pop by the Office of Champions to register the change and our new name. Does anyone want to come along?"

"As for the counter-challenge, if we're going to do it, let's do it soon and have done with it. Will we have to return to court to claim grievance?"

Captain Berru (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday May 16th, 2001 3:01:00 PM

Berru watches everyone carefully. "Northook Constables are handling the murder investigation. As Chloe's Personal Champions, you are welcome to observe, Sieur Mufflefoot, but as her heirs, you should be aware that you are suspects in the case." The guard captain holds up her hands as if to forestall protests. "Only because of the inheritance. As you were all here at the time of the murder, you couldn't have done it."

Turning to Ilsidur, she continues, "The delay is due to our privacy laws. The Constables need permission from Chloe's heirs to question her post-humously. They also want to use divination magic in the shop, since the break-in may be connected to the murder."

Faston shakes his head in reply to Uteva. "The Office of Champions handles all such issues of Challenge and Counter-Challenge." He waits patiently for everyone to agree on a choice for citizen.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday May 16th, 2001 4:21:29 PM

Yes I vote for Alyndar for citizen and what this about Madam Chloe's death? That shots our hitting the road, doesn't it." Sly turns to Alyndar and ask" Since we cannot leave here right now. Can I go to work for you?"

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday May 16th, 2001 10:14:17 PM

Aley sounds like a fine person for the citizenship and as for the counter challenge, you bet your backside we want it. It is time we rid ourselves of this bear before the unthinkable happens and he pounds one of us to death. I do however think that we should wait one full day for rest and full healing in order to complete our task and a better plan of attack. Not just a primary defense but partners and a plan of action to destroy Bear. For example, there should be at least two heavy hitters on Bear at once. Like me and Ilsdur or Sir Thomas.

Alyndar
Wednesday May 16th, 2001 11:06:20 PM

Aly smiles at Sly and says, : Sure, you may work for me. Go clean the breakfast dishes and try getting them cleaner than you did Luke.

Turning to the Captain, Aly says: I have no objection for magic being used on this place or her person, I too would like to know how she came up dead. And if it is ok with you, i'd like to be present when she is questioned.

Sir Thomas
Thursday May 17th, 2001 9:49:02 AM

Thomas smiles at Trace's suggestion. "I would be honored to stand beside you while we pommel that large beast of a creature. When we are finished here I will go to the office of champions and present our counter-challenge claim. What spell did they use that was illegal? Where can we get a copy of the rules to one of these challenges. I thought there were no rules except don't attack outside the area of challenge." Thomas sees the desire for citizenship burning in Altemia's eyes and feels badly for not having considered all group members before speaking, but since the decision has already been made he keeps quiet. While he waits for the meeting with the captain to be finished he begins to stroke Pryte-Honos' neck as he considers for the first time that he has no grooming utensils for his friend. Thomas finds a suitable piece of fruit and feeds it to his horse.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Thursday May 17th, 2001 11:59:27 AM

Altemia nods as Alyndar cements his desire to become a citzen.

"Sounds good to me. I'm going to make a run through my inventory to see if I need anything while shopping. Does anyone want me to get them something while I'm out?"

Ilsidur
Thursday May 17th, 2001 12:55:14 PM

"So, it sounds like Alyndar is about to become a citizen of Hook City. This should be interesting. If you don't mind, I'll tag along with you, just in case the city needs a witness or such. When we are done, maybe you would like to go with me while I chase down these cards? I suggest we all have a morning nap, get up for a late lunch, and then go do what we all plan to do."

If the party agrees, Ilsidur moves back into the warehouse, rigs up a rope into the basement and climbs down with the chest to have a sleep.

Lok Mufflefoot
Thursday May 17th, 2001 1:03:06 PM

Lok joins Alyndar's side and says to the captain "Then take us there as soon as possible so I can inspect her wounds, and so we both can hear her testimony." The halfling itches to get to the body as soon as possible to prevent tampering.

To the others he explains "after we've done that, I will take a look around and meet back up with you all. Somebody should stay and guard the warehouse here still however.

With that the halfling gathers his belongings and is ready to move.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Thursday May 17th, 2001 1:27:17 PM

Ael sits in the corner, head buried in his spellbook, mumbling to himself about something or other. At the mention of shopping, he looks up. "I would like to go as well, I do need to resupply."

(OOC: Ael's new spell list is forthcoming.)

Uteva
Thursday May 17th, 2001 3:39:10 PM

"Right then," Uteva says, unfolding her legs and dropping to the floor. "Lok will see to Madame Chloe while Alyndar and Ilsidur do the citizenship thing. Sir Thomas and will I take care of Champion business. Alyndar, let's see that scroll, please." She nips the parchment roll from the Elf with an apologetic grin and cracks the seal. "Who wants to orc-sit? Or can Tara and Kevil handle that on their own?"

The freckled bard quickly scans the scroll. "This lays out costs for damages and such, and --" She interrupts herself with a whistle. "We can hold our prisoners for ransom until sunrise tomorrow, then we have to release them. The counter-challenge happens tonight or not at all." Teva meets Trace's look with her own clear brown gaze. "I guess that settles that. I'll be shopping for some healing magic on our way back."

Decisions Made (DM Lee-Anne)
Thursday May 17th, 2001 4:11:31 PM

Faston's face remains impassive as he passes his case to Alyndar. "The text of our citizenship laws, for your revue. I'll convene my court at noon today to swear you in and arrange the inheritance documents. Good morning and good profit to you all." The man turns stiffly and leaves.

Captain Berru follows, waving Lok ahead of her. "The crime scene awaits, for whomever's coming with. The 452 are holed up over at The Silky Swan. That's where the counter-challenge will take place."

Alyndar
Thursday May 17th, 2001 7:47:09 PM

Aly will make sure he's bathed and in proper attire for the swearing in ceremony. Aly asks Sly if he would please secure the chest down below and do what he can to make the tunnel into the chamber below unpassable.

Aly then at 3/4 til noon starts to make his way to his citizenship ceremony.

Sir Thomas and Pryte-Honos
Thursday May 17th, 2001 9:45:03 PM

"I will guard the warehouse until 2 hours after noon or around that long. As long as Uteva is alright with going to the champion's office after that, then I will be going there, shopping, and to Alemi's house at that point in time. If anyone wants to sleep or shop until then they should feel free to do so. Please be prompt about returning though because I need to get these chores done before the challenge tonight. Also, I should be allowed more healing powers because the sun came up this morning. It isn't much, but if anyone needs some healing I will give them what they need. I certainly know that after how you all took care of me last night that I owe you at least that." While the group prepares to sleep or run errands or what Thomas checks his equipment, sword, armor, and Pryte-Honos' saddle. He does his best to groom the animal and further shine his armor.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Thursday May 17th, 2001 9:49:42 PM

Altemia will leaves the wolves to watch over the orcs while she quickly runs out on her errands. When she returns, she will sleep and then meditate. (New spell list 0-level:Flare, Light, Guidance, Cure Minor 1-level: Magic Fang, Obscuring Mist, SNA I)

She will then grab a quick bite to eat and check over the wolves and her equipment. If no one else has and there is time, she will go scout out the area around the counter-challenge.

Trace and Radiant
Friday May 18th, 2001 12:49:26 AM

"Trace asks if someone can cas a cure light wounds on his sword for later use. Whom ever is going shopping I have a list of things I will need."

List: A dependable light source that cannot be extinguished or needed to be handeled while in use.
Three potions of healing
If able to find a ring of protection of some sort that is under a thousand gold, I would be interested.

Trace will hand over the gold needed to complete his list and lend whatever is needed to who that needs it. Trace will also ask that someone do a detect magic on the armor in the shop to see if there might be a usefull equipment in there that they have aquired. Trace hands over 1,293 gold to complete his list. If there is change left over then add it to the group fund so that it may help out who needs it. Trace address the group while getting ready to rest for healing and regain his spell useage, "I will rest for four hours then babysit the orcs or run errands as needed if that is ok?"

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday May 18th, 2001 5:45:13 AM

Sly will do as Alyndar wants, Sly will do the dishes and go down into the cellar and fill in the tunnel with broken boxes and broken glass. then he will clean up the back room and do the cots, where Sly finds two hair brushes. "Hmm! I can put this to good use." Sly goes to where Pryte-Honos and brushes him down, until his coat shines. Sly will brush the wolves (they seem to like it) and then he will brush Luke. Sly want to brush the bird, But he fly's away. After doing all of this (and only found four cookies that Alyndar hid). "I wonder if I should go to the Silky Swam just to have a mug of milk? It will only take a minute or two?"

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday May 18th, 2001 5:47:43 AM

OOC: Those brushes belomg to the girls.

Ilsidur
Friday May 18th, 2001 4:17:25 PM

Ilsidur gets up a few minutes before noon, and climbs the rope from the basement, just in time to see Alyndar leaving the front door of the warehouse. "Hold up a few minutes, Aly, I need to speak with my lord Marmathon Dur, first." Assuming Alyndar waits, Ilsidur moves back into a quiet corner and prays, thanking his lord for a safe night last night, and a safe rest. Ilsidur feels that he is being pushed to move on and continue his explorations of the Southern Continent, but he responds, "My lord, I feel I have a duty to perform here, before I can move on with my friends. We do all want to move on, as soon as possible." [OOC: Lee-Anne, I will e-mail you my spell list later on.]

Once he has finished his prayers, he follows Alyndar out the door to head over to city hall. He pulls a small piece of paper from his belt pouch; the note from the bartender giving the likely names that could help him identify the magical cards.

Ael D'Gaiaim
Saturday May 19th, 2001 10:32:02 PM

Having decided on his future modifications to strategy, Ael stands and says "I'd love to have a look at those cards you mentioned, Lok. Also, all I need right now are a couple potions of healing."

Uteva
Sunday May 20th, 2001 10:12:26 AM

"Let's go right away, Sir Thomas. We have to file the grievance claim before noon. I can do Trace's and my own shopping on my way back." After the Champions office, Teva stops in at a few shops, and returns to the warehouse to spend the afternoon alternately sleeping and on watch. She helps to feed the trussed orcs.

When everyone has gathered together again, she points out the prisoners. "What will we do about them tonight? I don't want to leave anybody behind, and I don't like the idea of leaving them unsupervised."

Scouting The Silky Swan (DM Lee-Anne)
Sunday May 20th, 2001 12:06:14 PM

The Silky Swan Bath and Inn is a short walk from the warehouse on a slightly busier side street. The 100' x 150' white marble building sits between a tavern and a clothier's shop, separated from them by 8' alleys. Centered in the front wall is a spectacular 20' tall stained glass window depicting an elegant white swan. This is framed by second floor balconies and tall arched ground floor windows.

The Swan appears to be quite a busy place. As Sly, Lok and Altemia arrive, a small crowd is gathered around the wide double doors, where a clerk is fixing a sign. It reads, "From sundown of this day until sunup tomorrow, this building, and an area 10' around, will be the site of a formal Challenge between Champion Group 823 and the Champions Protector 452. Enter this area at your own risk; the City holds no responsibility for any actions occuring in the Challenge area."

The interior is echoing and humid, with arched cathedral ceilings, soft magical lighting, and lots of potted greenery. Straight ahead, a grand stairway divides to become a second floor balcony lined with doors, that overlooks and encircles a huge central swimming pool. Splashing and voices sound from this area. To either side, archways lead to the more private bathing rooms.

An olive-skinned youth wearing the sandles and short tunic of the staff approaches. "Welcome to the Silky Swan," he says. "How can I direct you?"

Sir Thomas
Sunday May 20th, 2001 4:21:31 PM

After Thomas returns from his erands he offers three healing potions to anyone who needs them. "I purchased four healing potions this afternoon, which leaves me with three extra. I know that some of you were very open with your supply last night when someone needed healing, and I know I was in need at least some of that time. SO to anyone who needs it here are three available healing potions." Thomas sets them on a table that has a few weapons on it. He then empties his belt pouches and places the contents in his backpack. He slings his rope over his shoulder and checks over his belongings to see if any of it might be useful tonight. He grabs two torches and gathers the lanterns from around the room and puts them on the table with the three healing potions +1. "These may be helpful to those of us who are nightblind." He pulls some rations from his pouch and offers some to anyone who is hungry from their day as he eats some to sustain him for tonight. Thomas double checks his armor and weapons before doing anything else. "Uteva's suggestion about who should babysit the orcs tonight is one that I have thought about today too. I will post Pryte-Honos to watch them, the chest and the warehouse. I don't think he will be quite the asset in the Silly Swan that he was in the open area of the warehouse, nor do I think he is able to perform the job by himself. Afterall, the place is big, the orcs outnumber him, and I can fully imagine that Bear and his minions will send some of their remaining numbers to steal the object of their affection from last night. I think that we will be hard pressed to win tonight short handed, but I feel that someone needs to stay behind with Alyndar's warehouse and all of our possessions. We can draw straws or roll dice or someone can volunteer if we decide this is something we feel needs to be done. I am fully willing to stay tonight despite having a strong desire to help deal with Bear. Can we pull the chest up from downstairs? Can we also plug the hole in the floor besides the tunnel? Is the front door still functional? Is there anything in the shop that we want to have under our close watch?" If the chest is mobile, Thomas begins getting it upstairs. He also starts moving things to put in front of the front door to slow entrance and exit. [OOC: boxes, crates, tables, the other cart, rearranging the first, etc...]

Altemia  d20-1=16
Sunday May 20th, 2001 7:15:04 PM

Altemia looks around the entrance way and the youth in front of her and smiles at him. Trying to act like a slightly dimwitted tourist she speaks to the boy (bluff 16).

"Well, actually, I've never been here before. Someone recommended it to me. Could you maybe show us around for a moment? My friend was right, this place is exquisite! Can you tell me all your secrets?"

She smiles at him again and touches him on the arm hoping her ruse works.

Alyndar
Sunday May 20th, 2001 8:12:28 PM

Knowing that everyone is either checking on Chloe's testamony and looking on the area for tonights challenge, after the ceremony with citizenship, Aly returns to the wharehouse and starts taking inventory, starting with the Chest. Aly will search the house for the key to open the chest and if found, will open it.

Trace and Radiant
Sunday May 20th, 2001 11:29:50 PM

Trace continues to stand watch over the wharhouse untill releaved for the evening. "I dont think it is a good idea to split up. I think we need everyone together for this and if you are worried about loseing the chest then we can bring it with us on our challenge tonight. We will just strap it to one of the wagons and even use it as some sort of bait to draw out the orcs. That way we have a postion to defend instead of trying to bust our way in and defeat uncharted areas in the new building. It is safeer to defend an area than to charge a fortified postion. Them full knowign that we are comeing is a masvie disadvantage for us and if we can use that chest to change their gameplan I think that will bold well for us. So again I thaink that splitting up is a bad idea." Trace contines to look over the area with his bow and arrows notched and ready.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday May 21st, 2001 11:21:09 AM

Sly and Luke went in side the Silky Swan Bath and Inn. This huge building has too many places for archers. So Sly turns and goes back to the warehouse. In the warehouse Sly tell Sir Thomas and anybody else that is listening, "I don't like the place, it has a tall balconies and way too many doors. I don't think this is going to be hand to hand fight, I think It's going to be archers, and I don't like what they have in mind." Sly puts his six vials of potion on the table, "Take what you need and the rest I'll carry with me in my hip pouch. If you should need some they will be there!". "As for the Orcs a nice sleeping potion will do fine, don't you think?" Sly added.
" I'll be over there getting ready to go, come on Luke." Sly went off to a table looking for a bigger shield.

Lok Mufflefoot  d20+7=11 d20+12=24
Monday May 21st, 2001 12:56:32 PM

Telling his companions before they leave that he will look for a spot to hide in and observe the preparations of the orcs, the halfling warns them that they will have to let him know if he is hidden when they get there sufficiently.

Having attempted to put a disguise together before they left to scout (failed 11) the halfling throws down his materials in frustration and comes to the inn. Smiling happily he brings out his juggling balls and juggles them happily wandering about acting as though he is entertaining, though truthfully looking for a nice spot to hide in where he can observe all preparations unseen. If he does see a nice spot, with an easy escape route, the halfling will conceal himself as well as he possibly can to get some information about their counterparts (hide roll 24).

Ilsidur
Monday May 21st, 2001 3:36:51 PM

After seeing to Alyndar becoming a citizen of Hook City, Ilsidur also makes his way to the Inn. Once there, he wanders around, sketching a simple map. He makes his way around as much of the building as he can, figuring rough dimensions, and making short notes about what can be found in each room. He shakes his head, not understanding a city that allows public buildings to be used in formal challenges between private groups. "I wonder who will have to pay for any damages?"

Once he has mapped the building, he heads off to find the two wizards that were named on his slip of paper. "Alyndar, are you coming with me?"

Uteva
Monday May 21st, 2001 5:48:02 PM

Uteva helps bring up the chest and assists Sir Thomas with his remodeling. "Maybe we can leave some of the other animal friends here to help Pryte-Honos. And I really like your notion of using the chest as bait, Trace." Turning to the advance scouts, she asks, "Did you see any likely places for a tactic like that?"

A Busy Afternoon Passes (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday May 21st, 2001 5:54:32 PM

"We would be delighted to show you around," the young man tells Altemia, staring significantly at her tabard. He gives her a wink and waves a female staff member over. "Give this lovely lady the full tour, darlin'."

The towel girl does just that, showing Altemia every nook and cranny of the women's baths, the open pool, the kitchens, laundry, and hypocaust. She explains that all of the guest rooms on the second floor are occupied. Ilsidur finds the staff equally accomodating, and together he and Altemia are able to put together a rough map of the place. Two orcs -- one seated on a lounger near the east end of the pool, one standing on the west end of the balcony, watch the party members whenever they come into view.

Meanwhile, Alyndar and Sly, searching Chloe's shop and apartment, don't find any keys. They do find neatly kept ledgers and papers, which Alyndar begins to go through.

Eventually, all but Lok reassemble in the warehouse as the sun begins to set.

Sir Thomas
Monday May 21st, 2001 8:55:02 PM

"Maybe we don't have to leave anyone behind to guard anything. Let's take anything that we are sure we want to keep and put it on one of the wagons. We can also put the orcs on there and then the bait will be quite tempting to the orcs. We'll have to keep in mind that this is a move that involves a lot of risk, but hey . . . easy come easy go right? I think I'll go in the front door, and I'll even go first. That will draw some of the attention from anyone else that comes in next. Also, if we use the windows they'll have a much more difficult time keeping us out and also of ganging up on us. I can even find a larger shield to hide behind I'm sure." Thomas looks for a tower shield or a large flat piece of wood almost the size of his body that he can fashion some makeshift handles to to use as a shield. "We could tie a rope to the front door and have Pryte-Honos pull it off so that we can see in too. Any other ideas?"

Alyndar
Monday May 21st, 2001 11:14:34 PM

to Ils: Aly looks up from a desk, covered in books and papers, spectacles on his nose and declines the invitation to go with Ilsidur, I am sorry friend, I have alot of stuff here to go through, and with the challenge tonight approaching i feel it best to stay here and see what I can find out here and rest a bit before tonight.

When Ilsidur leaves, Aly goes back to the notes and books on the table, reading and studying the items before him. Aly will organize the papers and books into stacks of like items. ie..financial records in one stack, inventory in another, business records in another and private in yet another. Aly will also see if any mention to living relatives can be found and if so those papers go into a seperate stack for later consideration.

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 12:43:17 AM

Well I am not sure how to enter but to handel the archers and magic users quickly along with Bear. I think the magic goes first then Bear and finnaly Archers. The warriors will fall as needed while dropping our enemy. In order to reach the archers and magic users quickly I have a vile of flying. Who in our group do yall think could be the most benifit to us useing that flying potion? I am not sure if it would be wasteing it if I used it in the battle. Who would do the most damage with it?

(ooc: Trace has prepaired magic fang during his rest)

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 5:25:49 AM

"Alyndar, I have found another wat into Madam Chloe's apartment." Said Sly, "But I have to have a ladder to get into the window?" Sly looks at the little old elf, then turns and starts walking out. "Well, I guess I'll get ready to go with the others." Walks out and then as an after though turns and whispers, "Good-by". "Come on, Luke"

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 11:54:43 AM

Before leaving the Inn, Altemia asks one more quick question of her guide out of the ear range of any of the orcs she has seen.

"I have a question about the main bath. Is your water a natural spring? If not, how does it get there?"

After receiving her answer she hurries back to the warehouse to get ready with the rest of the group.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 12:44:34 PM

When he is able, Ael will sit down and study his spells, preparing for the battle. Knowing his magical order will be processed in due turn, he examines the Swan. Looking around, he frowns.

"You are right. I can't seem to think of this place as very defensible. I do imagine that we can come up with a few tricks, though."

Uteva
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 5:48:54 PM

The bard looks amused. "Sir Thomas, do you really want to bring gift-wrapped reinforcements for the orcs? Let's barricade the prisoners into the back apartment and trust your stallion to guard the locked building. I'll be leaving my travel gear in the shop -- there's no sense in hauling all that around. We could use Alyndar's little cart for the chest, if we want to bring it. It would be more maneuverable that the big wagons."

She studies Ilsidur's sketch map of the Swan. "I don't like those narrow corridors on the ground floor." She muses, tapping a finger on her freckled cheek. "Let's avoid them if we can. Are we trying to sneak in, or do we want to attract them to us -- go in with spells blazing? If we take the chest, it will limit our movement, so we enter near where we want to end up."

"Flying is really useful for getting places in a hurry. I would suggest giving it to Ilsidur, but we know how much he likes to keep his feet on the ground." Teva grins at the dwarf and punches his shoulder. "I will either play singing archer, or else become invisible and run 'round casting supportive spells. I have quite a few Protection from Evil scrolls, which might be useful."

Plotting and Scheming (DM Lee-Anne)
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 6:00:09 PM

Sir Thomas finds a very well designed tower shield in Chloe's shop. (Masterwork item)

Altemia recalls the basement of the Silky Swan, where her guide showed her the underground viaduct that empties river water into the huge hypocaust, and directly into a maze of huge pipes.

There are many windows on both floors of the Swan. Rather than glass, they have a lacquered woven screens that allow light and air to pass, but that are difficult to see through.

Darkness falls and the city bustles on, as the Southern Lights plan their attack.

Alyndar
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 6:45:48 PM

Aly has a huge spread ready when everyone returns from doing their recon and shopping.

Soups, Broiled Meats, Steaming Veggies, Homemade biscuits with Honeybutter, and Coldcakes with Raspberry topping.

During dinner Aly will ask what our plan is for tonight.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday May 22nd, 2001 10:12:57 PM

"I had originally thought we could go in the front and the back and through any window that we think is advantageous. I thought that if we can all get in at about the same time they won't be able to focus their attention on any one of us for a long period of time without leaving others of us roaming free. It seems that Altemia may have found another way in though, smart girl." [OOC: How many orcs are we facing tonight? How many orcs are tied up? Do we know about the inventory we got in the email?] "I found a tower shield that will maximize the protection I have from archers. I am willing to enter through the front door, even if it is to draw a lot of attention. I feel that I'm better at planning defensive ventures than offensive ones, so I will do whatever we decide, but keep in mind that I am not a sneaky fellow with my size and armor." Thomas offers more suggestions as he and his friends try to figure out the best way to go in.

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday May 23rd, 2001 12:01:19 AM

"Ok this is off the hip sort of speak but hear it goes. I think that Sir Thomas, Ilsdur, Ael, and Alynder should go through the front door along with the chest. Sly, Lok and Uteva should enter through the rear along with Tara, Kevil, and Luke. Me, Radiant and Altemia will enter in through windows or some other entrance. The key is that this has to be a timed entry into the area so that there is a confusion on where they should direct their primary attention. Hopefully they will concetrate forward to the front door while the rest of us attack the backside takeing out archers and magic users. I guess if no one has suggestions on how to use the flying potion then I will take it and make my primary concern the magic users while flying to them with Radiant and takeing them out as quickly as possible. I will need archer support from two archers. Sir Thomas and Ilsdur will protect the chest and our magic twins aginst any attck acting as one and the twins will use their skills on takeing out Bear and or Void. I had rembered when we fought the other brother, you know the one we actually killed. It was due mainly to some fireball blast. That should weaken their main man and hopefully once we rid them of there leaders the rest will break and run out of the challenge area. So in back we have two archers and two protectors in the rear along with Luke, Tara, and Kevil. Then upfront we have the bait, main weapons (the twins) along with protection provided by Sir Thomas and Ilsdur. Then finnaly I will be airborn with Radiant doing my best takeing out the magic users, then archers. Sounds like a good plan while still open to suggestions that you may have. Oh and all else fails, we don't have to die in their tonight so if things go South, no pun intended, we vacate to the nearest exit and leave the challange area to fight another day." Trace feels that he has given a pretty good plan or at least something to start off with and proudly sticks out his chest. Then he jumps to his feet as if awakened, "Oh and I also bought 10 potions of healing and six torches with continual light casted upon them so that there is no danger of them being extinguished or setting the place on fire."

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil

Altemia looks over at Sir Thomas and smiles

"It is just an idea. I'm not sure how to implement it though. Planning attacks is not my strong point, so I'm willing to go along with what you guys decide. I also picked up a few things while I was out. I got a couple of Cure light wound potions. I figure that will be all I need. (At least I hope so.) I also picked up a few scrolls for the future and a couple for tonight...a barkskin and a SNA I. I thought I'd cast the barkskin on myself right before we got the Inn."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday May 23rd, 2001 10:46:32 AM

Sly sits there and finishes his 3rd helping of cold cake and fruits (while Luke finishes his meal) " I also have six potion of healing. Take what you need and the rest will be in my back pouch. If anybody needs it, please take it." When Sly finishes he gets up and tell the party. " Going in the back door sound fine with me? ? ? Wait a minute, where's Loc ? Has anybody seen Loc? Alyndar did he eat before us? If not Has He Come Back At All? No wonder I had a bad feeling for most of the day!"

The mage stands after listening to the discussions. "You're right Sly. Usually Lok was always close at hand, trying to peek into my component pouch. Yet today I find myself generally unmolested! Where could he be?"

After eating, he helps clean up silently: his mind on the missing halfling.

Uteva

"Lok came back here after he saw Chloe's body. You must have been in the shop, Sly. He told us he would try to hide out at the Swan. We don't know where he will be, but hopefully he'll hear all the noise and come running." She puts a reassuring hand on Sly's arm. "I'm sure he will be okay."

Teva turns to Sir Thomas. "When I checked the registry at the Office of Champions, the orcs had 13 live members listed. We've got 7 tied up in back, leaving 6 to fight, if they haven't added more.

"I think Trace has a working plan," she says, grinning at the elf. "I'm worried that if we're spread out like that, a group could be overwhelmed without the others even knowing they're in trouble, or where they are. I can cast a spell that will let me communicate with each group, but I will have to be central to be in range of everybody. So, I will switch with Altemia or Trace, and go in the side."
