Madame Orchid (DM Lee-Anne)
Saturday July 21st, 2001 2:34:43 PM

"The Day of Faith is our most important festival, when we renew our covenant with the gods of Wold." Orchid finishes with her son and moves on to Lok, wiping at his hands with her cloth. "Part of the celebration takes place on the Bridge, so you should get a feel for what it's like before then." The merchant has a merry glint in her eye as she straightens and approaches Ilsidur, the stained facecloth held at the ready. "Shall I?"

Sly Foxx and Luke
Saturday July 21st, 2001 6:35:04 PM

After giving Sir Thomas horse a good washing and a good oil rub down for the horses skin, Sly pats the horse and talks to the animal,"I know, he is acting very strange. And you mean the wold to him. I'll go and try to cheer him up for you." After Sly finishes with the horse, he walks to where Sir Thomas is sitting, "My dear friend, my heart is heavy for you. What can I do to put back that light in your eyes? Can I give you a hot oil rubdown? Are your mussels hurting? You know you changed since you put that new armor on? Do you think that it is curse? Why don't you take it off for a while and see if it is??" ask Sly of his close friend Sir Thomas.

Loc Mufflefoot (Ceil)
Saturday July 21st, 2001 6:48:28 PM

Loc stands in line with the boys, and as mother Orchard washes every one in line. The hands, the faces and behind the ears (including Locs), she never missed a dirty spot. Loc listens to what she has to say about the festival. With a great big grin "I'll go with you!" said Loc. She pat's Loc head and turns to Ilsidur and is ready to work on his dirty ears.

Sir Thomas
Saturday July 21st, 2001 11:35:44 PM

Replying directly to Sly Thomas avoids her worry as his eyes fill with tears that he fights back somewhat successfully. "Fill your heart with other more merry things my friend. It is not the armor that has changed my demeanor. I am afraid that my fate is far worse than that. You should go play with the kids. I will be over in the shade watching." Thomas walks to a shaded spot just inside the doors of the warehouse and takes a seat on a crate. He watches his friends as they play with the kids and do their daily things.

Alyndar
Sunday July 22nd, 2001 12:29:59 AM

Aly walks into the Warehouse and sees Sly talking with Thomas, then sees Thomas go to the crate, and sit on it.

Aly walks to the crate, all the while looking to see what the kids are doing, and non chalantly sits on the crate next to him.

After a time Aly, without looking at Thomas says: I have lived for a long time. I see these children, knowing I will still be alive long after they grow old and Die, the same goes for you my friend, as does most of the rest of our friends. It saddens me at times when I think about this. Then I think of something my teacher once told me, " Being who we are is harder than most people think. It is even harder for those who go out into the world and make friends. Eventually you will have to watch your friends die. Each time a part of you die with them. One day you that sorrow will overtake you but if you learn to live each day with them with love and joy and happiness. When the time comes that they do leave, you will have something very special that no other person will have, you will have rememberence>"

Still watching the children Aly says after a pause: Some of us deal with sorrow and heartbreak differently but let me tell you what this old man has learned. If you keep what is eating you inside, if you do not share your hurt with those who love and care for you, that hurt will drive you away from those people. If you truly care for those around you, then you need to open up to them your guilt and sorrow, we come to you for strength and guidance. We respect you. If your friends and loved ones can't help you, if you wont let them, then you died before the sorrow set in.

Aly then gets off the crate, still watching the children, pats Thomas on his knee, then wanders out to play with the children.

Trace and Radiant
Sunday July 22nd, 2001 10:14:32 PM

Trace is beging to get itchy feet. He lets everyone else know this by closeing out his debt with the stable for his horse and by packing up all his gear and makeing it road ready every night within plain sight. As they are still in town Trace continues to nose about for clues on Void as where he may be while he waits for the others to get ready to leave town.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Monday July 23rd, 2001 11:10:50 AM

(OOC: Rolls forthcoming as soon as I get home, Mr or Mrs. DM. My book is there. ;)

Ael can be seen in the distance, lugging a massive volume under his arm. He slowly and quietly approaches Sir Thomas after his conversation with Aly.

If one were to look at the tome, it is bound with black leather, with a magical attachment on it which prevents one from "loosing" a library book. It's pages are aged and yellow; and is entitled "A brief study of Phylacteric Transfer and accompanying essays."

Sitting down next to the man, Ael sighs. "Thomas...my friend. I see that you are...occupied, even as I am. I am in need of your knowledge, though I do not wish to intrude on your privacy." Placing the book on the bench beside him, he turns and speaks again. "Tell me...about Alemi."

Ilsidur
Monday July 23rd, 2001 12:45:15 PM

Ilsidur playfully pushes Lok and the facecloth away. "Keep that away from me. I washed my ears already this month, can't you tell?"

Then he heads over towards the paladin and the wizard. "What is wrong with you two? Last night, we celebrated Uteva's wonderful return, and our continuous defeat of those stinking orc brothers, and you two act like you've just lost your favourite wand, or magic sword, or whatever. Alyndar is right; we are all your friends here, and we help each other out. But if you don't let us in on what is bothering you, there is nothing we can do to help." He crosses his arms over his chest, and frowns at the two downcast friends.

(Oops the d100 was a misclick rofl)
Being clean, the halfling remembers what he had forgotton. He felt lonely as the others had pets. He ran off towards the marketplace hoping to find an animal trainer. Perhaps he could find a squirrel, or a chipmunk, or possibly a parrot for a pet. Little animals facinated the halfling, and having one for the festival would be fantastic.

Uteva  d100=32
Monday July 23rd, 2001 1:22:22 PM

Teva watches her friends wander off, then shrugs at Orchid. "I'd really like to see the Market up close and personal, but it looks like the others aren't interested. Give me a chance to talk to them, and I'll let you know." With a wink and a grin, the bard leaves The Fruit Market, dodging sticky little boys on her way out.

She bounces cheerily back to the warehouse, coming to a dead halt in the doorway when she catches the somber mood that hangs over the room. "Who died?" The question slips out before she can stop it. Belatedly, Teva claps her hand over her mouth, her eyes widening in horror at what she's just said.

Madame Orchid (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday July 23rd, 2001 1:26:42 PM

Orchid smiles kindly at the retreating bard. "All right, dear, but you'll need to go soon. Some of those boys looked like they could use a distraction."

Sly sit down on the floor in frount of Sir Thomas and ask of him. "Sir Thomas, If you would only help me with my problem? I think too much at night when I'm alone. If it was not for all of you, making me feel that I have a family again, when I first met all of you, I was pretty low, you know down in the dumps. But as time went along the lost of my Mother and Sister became alittle more bearable. And Yes! you had a lot to do with it. You didn't say as much but I was pretty bad as a fighter, but you never said so. Just trust this way and that's pretty good. Then swing this way and see you did it better this time. So If I can help you by listning to what hurts you, Please tell me, I still have a lot to learn".

A Mysterious Message (DM Lee-Anne)
Monday July 23rd, 2001 3:48:58 PM

A bright-eyed youth enters the warehouse without knocking. Ignoring the tension around Sir Thomas, he looks around, spots Trace, and heads straight over to the ranger. The young man hands over a small slip parchment, whispers a few words, and leaves without disturbing anyone else. Ilsidur, Lok, and Trace recognize him as one of the towelboys from the Silky Swan.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil  d100=24
Monday July 23rd, 2001 5:52:40 PM

Altemia pulls herself up off the floor and away from the wolves and boys when Uteva leaves.

"I think I might wander around for a bit today. Selling for you is an interesting idea Madame Orchid."

With that she motions to the two wolves to follow her. She steps out into the street and looks around. Seeing the look on Kevil's face she sends him back the warehouse alone. Tara stays with her as she wanders the city just to get the feel of the people and to be alone. Some of the tensions in the group are starting to affect her.

Alyndar
Monday July 23rd, 2001 9:08:05 PM

seeing the young lad wander in and give Trace a note, Aly goes to Trace and inquires about the note.

If Trace goes to leave, and doesnt object, Aly will go with him. If not, Aly returns to his study to prepare more scrolls.

Trace and Radiant

Trace gets his gear ready and then shares the note with the rest of the group. (will e-mail it tomorrow, tired and in a hurry.)

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 10:50:05 AM

Sly is still sitting at Sir Thomas Feet.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 12:19:44 PM

Ael pauses for a moment to look up at Thomas' unshaven face. "Perhaps now was not the best time to ask, yet I find myself...unsure. They say that Alemi used to be a man."

Sighing, the mage looks at the book beside him, leaving his question unfinished.

Uteva
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 12:21:28 PM

Teva puts her fists on her hips and glares at the paladin, but she speaks softly. "Sir Thomas, we don't mean to badger. If you don't want to talk about, it we'll understand. But you will get out of this warehouse and away from the temples for at least a few hours, before you make yourself sick with all this moping. Come with us to the Bridge -- we'll do Orchid's trading for her, and maybe distract you for a while."

The Towelboy's Message
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 12:23:40 PM

Trace's parchment contains a hastily scribbled note:

Sieur Jacobs,

It is maybe not so important, but you said, anything I can recall. I am polishing the balluster the morning of the counter-challenge, when a Market runner ask for Lord Void. Soon after, Void and that big-armed, rude one go out. I remember because today I see a Market runner in the same livery: orange trimmed with brown. I hope this help.

Sir Thomas
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 1:27:56 PM

Thomas searches the eyes of his friends to find the answer to a question that has been plaguing him for the last few weeks.

**Can they help me?**

Being too uncertain of the answer he offers this in the downtrodden tone he has adopted since the morning of Uteva's raising. "Let's go to the market for Lady Orchid. I'll tell you of Alemi on the way. Maybe we'll talk about my problem at a more private setting; tonight over dinner maybe." Thomas stands and offers to carry the book Ael has in his lap. "Come my friend. Let's walk while we talk."

ON the way Thomas offers all that he can to try to fill the emptiness that is plaguing Ael. "I have heard the legend of when Alemi was a human, but it is of little consequence to his teachings. I don't know if it is actually true or if it is just a good story. Alemi is the keeper of justice. He has a just hand, that is gentle when it can be, but can be as harsh as Gargul's if it needs to be. His realm is above and beyond the law because just and good natured men do not always make the law. He is the protector of the weak and misfortuned of the Wold. He is a protector and a diplomat. His love gives hope to those that will accept it. . ." Thomas continues to summarize his view of his Lord Alemi. He does not try to treat Ael as a squire or an aspiring priest, but instead just tries to overview the topic. (OOC: see the page on Alemi) "Ael, I must tell you that above all else, Alemi is why I live. I wish to further his cause. I wish to help the underpriviledged and weak. I wish to help the good hearted strong man to rule justly. I wish to wipe evil from the face of the realm. I wish to perform only good and just acts. To loose Alemi's favor would crush me." Thomas' voice cracks with the last sentence and his eyes well with tears. It takes him a moment to recover his composure as he turns his eyes away from his friends. When he turns back he finishes, "I hope that you have a better understanding of my Lord and my life. Do you have any questions that I might help you with?"

Alyndar
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 5:52:48 PM

yeah, just one question.

What the heck is wrong with you?

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 6:27:12 PM

Sly get up and follows Sir Thomas and Ael, listening to what the Palatine had to say. Sly run ahead of the pair and tell Sir Thomas, " My gosh Sir Thomas, from what I been hearing about Alemi is in my mind you. I try to follow in your foot steps because you are the keeper of justice. You in your gentle way Keeps us on the right path and that's not easy with a bunch like us. Remember at Mud City and that girl we saved form those guards? What happen next was because of your example and I stood next to you ready to fight the guards. If need be just to protect the girl and the rest of those people. Can you not see if you cave in now, I will lose another farther again." with this said Sly runs back to the warehouse with Luke running with him.

Trace and Radiant
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 10:27:49 PM

Trace readies his horse and climbs aboard and rides up to Lok, "Lok I need to do some more investigating, I need you and your skills to help in this." Trace then turns to the others, "Me and Lok are headed to the market, around noon begin looking for us or a message from Radiant. If neither appears head for the market, I think I might have a lead on Void and his contacts." Trace readies his gear and straps down everthing on his horse so that no sound is heard as he rides. Yet another trick that his late uncle had taught him.

If Lok agrees, Trace and Lok will head for the market and begin searching for a market runner with the clothing the same as that was described in the note.

Loc Mufflefoot (Ceil)
Tuesday July 24th, 2001 11:08:58 PM

"Alright give me a hand up."said Loc. then up he goes up on the back of the horse, and off he and Trace goes.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil (by Clay)
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 9:50:17 AM

Feeling the group cohesiveness crumbling, Altemia's stomach begins to sink. She does not like the strife caused by Thomas, she is worried about Ael's new concern for life, and she does not like the fact that the group is splitting up. "Trace! wait, when should we meet you and were?" She calls to the horse after it and its riders have already begun to disappear into the crowds. NO knowing what to do she offers her help. "Uteva, what are you shopping for that Madame Orchid needs? I will go get Sly from the warehouse and meet you at one of the venders you plan on soliciting. That way most of us will be together. I'll even hurry." She arranges a meeting with Uteva at the bridge in a short time and then runs off after Sly to get him to accompany the group on the shopping trip.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 12:51:48 PM

Ael follows Sir Thomas, nodding at the Paladin has he shares his knowledge, and obvious love for Alemi. He remains silent, deep in thought, his gaze drifting to the tome every now and then.

Uteva
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 2:25:27 PM

Teva call, "Trace, we'll meet you on the Bridge!" Grinning at Altemia, the bard helps her drag the others back to Orchid's shop. With half an ear tuned in to the Alemi discussion, she tells the merchant, "It seems we're for the Market after all. What do you want us to do?"

Mission: Shop! (DM Lee-Anne)
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 2:28:38 PM

Orchid smiles widely. "Oh, wonderful! Here are some samples to take with you." She hands Uteva a small basket filled with bananas, blueberries, and several bright red plum-like fruits. "I have 15 bushels of bananas to sell. They use those to enchant our chits, you know, so don't take less than 12 to the bushel. Blueberries go for about 6 chits to the bushel, and I have 10 bushels of those. Try selling them near the magical paints. The Market is flooded with vileberries right now." Orchid picks up one of the red plum things, makes a moue of distaste, and drops it back into the basket. "But bingeing is fashionable this season, so you might get a good price for my 25 bushels. Do your best.

"Now, once you sell those, spend half the money filling my stock." raspberry apples, frog apples, and cold pears." The motherly merchant points out three nearly empty bins in her front window. The first contains a few deep red apples with bumpy-textured skins. "I need at least 5 bushels of raspberry apples, and 5 of frog apples, but only if they're ripe." She picks up one of the golden frog apples and gently squeezes it to demonstrate the correct ripe croaking sound. Setting it back down, she points to the lonely, icy-blue and slightly bruised pear in the last bin. "And if you find cold pears, snatch them up at any price, before the ice-makers corner the Market on them.

"Invest the other half of the money in Dwarven Ferries. Look first for shares in Bello's ferry line, but I'll be happy with any." Orchid peers at the glazed-over expressions surrounding her. "Have you got all that, dears? Here's my Trading Card, and enough chits for each of you for the Stairs." She hands these to Altemia, with a pat for the elfmaid's cheek. "Have fun, dears!" she says, shooing everyone out of her shop. She snags her eldest out from between Ael and Sly, pulling the boy back inside by his ear . . .

You Want to Put Your Horse Where? (DM Lee)
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 2:36:15 PM

Trace and Lok arrive at the Southook Cityscape shore at the south end of the Bridge. There, a continuous line of merchants and laden porters snakes back and forth up the narrow, rickety wooden switchbacks of the Stairs. A shorter line of richly dressed mercherchants and mages wait to take the small handlift up to the Market. There doesn't appear to be any way to get Trace's horse up to the Bridge.

Sir Thomas  d100=32
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 4:15:40 PM

Guilt making his pain worse, Thomas agrees to share is plague with his friends. "We can discuss my troubles when we get back from the bridge. I will be cheerful for the rest of the day, then we will talk. I need your help and support my friends, so let us try to have a pleasant day shopping." He flashes a sorry excuse of a smile and heads off with the group for the bridge.

Altemia, Kevil, Tara (Clay)  d100=96
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 4:18:48 PM

Altemia accepts the chits graciously, "Thank you Madame Orchid." She then heads into the warehouse to find Sly to talk him into accompanying the rest of the group to the bridge. She will relay the news Thomas just reported say, "Sly! He has given his word to talk to us tonight. You know he won't break that oath, so lets all go shopping together. Maybe we can cheer him up before it gets hot this afternoon." She takes SLy's hand and hurries to catch the departing group.

Alyndar
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 5:15:57 PM

See Brother, that wasn't so hard, asking for our help. <patting Thomas on his back>

Now, will someone be so kind to tell me what we are gonna be doing on this bridge for the rest of the day?

Sly Foxx and Luke
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 5:28:56 PM

Sly agree to go with the girls. Now Sly tries to remember what to sell and what to buy, "Sell bananas and buy raspberry apples? Sell Blueberries and Red Plum fruits and buy magic paint? Sell vileberried and buy Frog Pears? Sell basket and buy Cold Apples? All right I think I have it strait?" Said Sly as he follows the girls.

Luke look to the sky, "Woof arf?" meaning (this is going to be a long day)

Trace and Radiant
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 9:45:11 PM

Trace looks for a market runner bearing the same markings as the one that brought him the note from the worker. "Please take this horse back to the silk swan stables and post him under Sieur Jacobs, I will collect him there." Trace hands him three gold coins, one for the runner and two for the stable. "C'mon Lok lets go up to the bridge and look for the runners that were described in the note. We will pay him off to keep his mouth shut and I will have you inspect where they work once we find out."

Ilsidur
Wednesday July 25th, 2001 10:47:01 PM

As excited at going shopping as having his teeth pulled out, Ilsidur says, "Well let's go; what are we waiting for. This is exactly why I signed on to be a Champion: so that I could buy and sell fruit at a market. Maybe we could get the merchants to help us in the next battle against the orc brothers, what do you think?"

Obviously not looking forward to the afternoon, Ilsidur follows the party to the bridge.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Thursday July 26th, 2001 9:40:20 AM

Ael momentarily forgets his troubles for a while, entranced by the revelation that Bananas are used in the chit enchantment process. He walks along at high speed, managing to pace back and forth, even though the group is moving forward.

"Fascinating...very interesting indeed. I wonder what processing incantation they use. I suppose it could be a variant on Svetlana's Scintellating Component Stripper, with maybe some physical elements as well, if they use the interior... It would be most enlightening to learn if higher denominations of chits require more fruit to enchant, or if the basic procedure is identical."

Understanding that the horse was unimportant, Lok began his search of the marketplace looking without much luck (spot check 8) and asking about the occasional passerby for information (13 gather info). Dilligently he searched (search 21) the marketplace for any sign of the runner, occasionally checking in with Trace.

Uteva
Thursday July 26th, 2001 2:01:16 PM

Teva stares at Sly for a moment, blinks, then sighs. "Who, boy, I can see this is going to take some work." Linking her arm through his as they walk to the Bridge, she shows him and Alyndar the fruits in her basket, going over Orchid's instructions until she thinks they've got it.

To Ilsidur, she says, "Well, you did say that you wanted to see the Market." The bard sounds amused. "Maybe you can catch up with Trace and Lok, if you think their nosing around is more in line with your championly dignity."

Bedlam on High (DM Lee-Anne)
Thursday July 26th, 2001 2:53:49 PM

The Bridge which so dominates the skyline of Magic City can be easily taken for granted after a few weeks spent in its constant presence. From up close, though, the sheer size of the looming span, which is wider than many city blocks, and ten times as long, is awe-inspiring. It's hard to believe that such a massive structure is supported only by the network of cables that tie it to the Hooks. And from up close, it's impossible to forget that the Hooks are suspended in midair from nothing at all . . .

The Market Wardens charge each person one white chit for the dubious priviledge of climbing the rickety wooden switchbacks of the Stairs. During the half hour or so that it takes to ascend to the Bridge, you pass many merchants and shoppers who have paused here and there to take a breather and look out over the splendour of the Southook Cityscape sparkling from far below. Frequently, a cry of, "Way! Coming through, make way citizens!" passes from person to person along the stairs, and the line of climbers presses against one railing while a fast-moving Market runner passes them carrying a message to or from the Bridge above.

Trace and Lok reach the top together, emerging into complete bedlam. Thousands of voices shout to be heard over one another, creating an incomprehensible babble of noise. There are people and goods everywhere; in such a crush, it would be nearly impossible to find a companion again, once separated. The two friends have yet to see a runner in orange and brown. When they ask, they are directed to a nearby stall, where runners in blue-on-blue livery await their next message run.

As the rest of the party nears the top of the Stairs, they are passed by a Market runner who skips nimbly up the stairs, only slightly winded, sweat darkening the fabric of his orange-trimmed brown tunic.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday July 26th, 2001 3:56:54 PM

A good chance that somebody is holding Sly's hand and guiding him along, Because Sly is looking down(open mouth and speachless).

Luke follows Sly and keeping an eye on the people.

Sir Thomas
Thursday July 26th, 2001 9:41:03 PM

It does not take much for the large paladin to stay close to his companions as he pushes and shoves people with his large shoulders. Everytime he bumps someone he tries to mutter or offer apologies with a, "pardon me" or an "excuse me" of some sort. The physicality of the experience is not the problem for him so much as the constant spray of apologies coming from his mouth. In frustration he shouts to his friends, "This is rediculous you guys! Did we all need to come to this god forsaken bridge? I wonder how many people have been pushed off the edge or crushed from this swarm of people." Including this poor attempt at humor, the paladin still manages to be blatantly sad trying to pass as a somewhat cheerful person. He does his best to stay close to those that actually know their destination, even if those companions don't know the proper direction of that destination.

Altemai, Tara, Kevil (Clay)
Thursday July 26th, 2001 9:45:14 PM

Before entering the mix of the crowd, Altemia forsees the trouble before they get there. She tells Tara and Kevil to return to the warehouse and wait for the group to return. They jog off to carry out her instructions to the letter fully knowing that the shade of the warehouse will be much more enjoyable than the hot summer sun on the bridge. Altemia is very glad that she got rid of the chits when they entered the bridge because she does not relish the thought of trying to keep a firm grip on them as she follows Thomas' large frame through the crowd. "Thomas, can you see Uteva? She knows where we're going. I can't see anything but feet and you." She pokes the paladin in the kidney trying to get a slight rise from the large kid.

Trace and Radiant
Thursday July 26th, 2001 9:54:51 PM

Trace leades Lok up to the runners in the blue suites. "Excuse me, I need a message ran but the message is me and my friend here. I need a runner to guide us to the station that the runners wear orange and brown tunics. I have gold and will pay the exchange rate for the guide plus five gold on top for the trouble."

Ilsidur  d20+3=14
Thursday July 26th, 2001 11:58:55 PM

Ilsidur grabs the orange and brown liveried runner as he pushes past (roll is for STR check). "Excuse me for one second, sir. I was wondering whom you work for, and how I might contact that person. The information is worth a white chit, if you can spend the time to answer that and maybe a couple more questions." He waits for the answer, figuring he can get out of the ridiculous shopping trip. "Or would you prefer to be paid in fruit?" Ilsidur holds up a banana. "Apparently, they are as valuable as money around here."

Alyndar

Tugging on his sleeve as they approach the station he says "After we find out this mess, we must visit a good Inn or two. I haven't been juggling in far too long." he winks at Trace and applies a more serious look to his face once again as they approach the runner.
The halfling eyes Trace a moment wondering at his generosity but remembers the severity of their task.

Uteva
Friday July 27th, 2001 3:40:23 PM

As they emerge up top, Uteva takes a moment to absorb the atmosphere. The bard takes a deep breath and releases it on a long sigh. "Aaahh. Look, Sly: commerce. It's all about exchanging what you don't need for what you want. Everybody wins. Isn't it beautiful?"

Almost giddy with joy, Teva drags the young half-elf into the crowd, shouting over her shoulder, "Everybody stick together, and keep your eyes and ears open. We're looking fruit, magical paint, and ferry lines." She stops the first Market Warden she sees to ask where the fruit merchants can be found.

Friday July 27th, 2001 4:17:17 PM

One of the blue-dressed runners, a spare woman, frowns and stands with her arms crossed. "What ya want with Swift's? We can beat their price any day, and we're more discreet." She glances at her coworkers, asking, "Any of you layabouts know what gold's worth?"

"It was 12 gold to the chit this morning," answers one.

Another shakes his head, "I just ran a jeweler's trade. 13 to the chit."

The first woman nods and turns back to Trace. "I'll do the run for 9 gold."

Over closer to the Stairs, the runner in Ilsidur's grasp gasps out in a sing-song, "Note Swift messenger service, for all your Market needs. Fast, reliable and always ready. Look for us mid-span on the east edge of the Bridge. All profit to you, sieur." The man then twists his tunic free and darts off into the crowd at top speed.

The Market Warden tells Uteva to try the area directly below the Second Hook.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Friday July 27th, 2001 7:33:46 PM

Uteva grabs Sly by the hand and drags him along, saying "LOOK! Sly the market," and Sly is having a hard time keeping up with her, as she pull him from one place to another. At one point Sly was running on his knees, when Uteva stop and said "LOOK! the Ferry Line." Only to be grab and pull along again, then come to a full stop. "LOOK! the Market. It's so beautiful." Sly (who is all out of breath) looks onto Uteva's face, her shinning eyes and her new found energy. By every thing he hold holy, It was worth it, just to get her back.

Luke walks and some time runs along, with no problems at all.

Ilsidur
Sunday July 29th, 2001 11:23:55 PM

"Come on, guys, let's try to figure out where Void has gone. Uteva, can you take care of the shopping?"

Leading the others (assuming they follow), Ilsidur heads over to the mid-span on the east edge of the bridge, looking for the 'Note Swift' messenger service. "When we get there and find the manager, how about we try to charm him into giving us the information we need Tell him we can pay for the information in chits or in spells, whichever he prefers."

Alyndar
Monday July 30th, 2001 9:24:24 AM

Follows Ils, combat pouch slid around to the front for easy access.

Uteva
Monday July 30th, 2001 12:32:13 PM

Uteva snorts and shares a knowing glance with Altemia. "Trust the men to run off when there's shopping to be done. You boys aren't getting out this so easily. We'll all go after this lead, then do the trading together." She starts after Alyndar and the others, but after a quick glance at Ael's unfocussed gaze, hands her sample basket to Sly and grabs the young mage to pull him along.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Monday July 30th, 2001 1:34:56 PM

Ael almost stumbles as 'Teva grabs him, but thankfully manages to regain his balance. "Oh! Yes? Ahh, the bridge. Err...a magnificent..."

He shakes his head, apparently to clear it, and blinks a few times. He quickly glances at the book Thomas is kindly carrying for him, and seems to relax. "Ok...I guess it's time for a little detective work, eh?"

Sir Thomas
Monday July 30th, 2001 3:13:02 PM

"Well, what about . . ." startled by all of the confusion mixed in with Ilsidur's decision to go off on his own Thomas tries to get him to stop and talk it all over with the rest of the group. The group, however, seems all too informed about Ilsidur's plan and is already tagging along ahead of Thomas. So Thomas follows the group calling to Ilsidur, "What information are we looking for? And who are we asking? and . . . "

Altemia (by Clay)
Monday July 30th, 2001 3:16:08 PM

Altemia smiles a wry, knowing smile and continues with Uteva's chiding, "All too typical. We should have made odds and taken bets that they'd run off once we got them here." She swats Thomas on the shoulder as she rushes past him and gives a playful tug on Aly's robe as her warrior's legs push her though the crowd at a much more efficient pace than the mage can manage. "We'll see you at the Note Swift Messenger's Service . . . if you can't keep up with the 'shoppers'." She grins and chuckles a little at the dumbfounded looks on the males' faces.

(ooc Ok first off there is NO way that Ilsidur could grab hold of Lok, as Trace and Lok are lost in the crowd ahead of them by at least 10 minutes. I will edit what I can without changing the gist of the posts)

DM Kent -- Hubbub and Bedlam --
Monday July 30th, 2001 6:56:44 PM

The noise level around you all is quite nerve wracking to say the least. As you walk through the bustle you find it hard to believe that anyone can hear and understand anyone else let alone conduct business.

(Picture The comodities and stock exchanges at peeak time only with three times as many people spread out over a much larger area.)

As Trace and Lok make their way with their guide this is a sample of what they hear.

"Goose thistles 10 per bushel, Sold 2 bushels, Berit's Brewery at 10."
"Chokethorn seedlings 5 per bushel, Buy at 5 from Joran's Nursery."
"Offering to buy any and all Cold Pears at 30 per bushel."

As Uteva, Thomas and the rest of the party heads through the crowd, ultimately heading for the same destination They get an earful of the same discussions.

"Meat Pies, fill you right up."
"Dark Dwarven Ale 15 per pony."
"Pickled starberries selling at 6 per bushell."
"Can you spare a chit so I can feed my children"
"OK, I've got Bartoks for 2 at 7, Jasora's for 5 at 6. And Deringle's for 5 at 6. All three sells. And one buy from Pravlong's for 12 at 5. All contracted. Profit to you all."

After Uteva let's go of Sly arm, Sly almost trip and fall BUT regained his balance by spinning around (with his cap over his eyes). Then bumps into Sir Thomas, "Opps!" said Sly, "I'm sorry Sir I did not mean to (at this point Sly pushes his cap back into place at the back of his head) Ahh! Sir Thomas?? (looking for the girls) Where did every body go?" Then sly hears the sweet sound of a merchant calling "MEAT PIES!" Sly looks around for the direction of the beautiful sound.

Not Liking the crowds all that much, Aly moves a bit closer to Ilsidur. Not in a scared way, just for safety it seems. Senses on alert, looking for anyone who might either be trying to pickpocket himself or Ils or placing a blade in our backs.

Altemia (by Clay)
Tuesday July 31st, 2001 2:23:36 PM

Altemia looses her humor as the crowds push in on her. "We're getting into the thick of it here folks." she calls to her friends with no hope that they heard her. She desperately tries to follow those in front of her while holding up her hand with the tatoo on it for those who are behind her to follow.

Trace and Radiant (Ceil)

"Your hired, Now show us" said Trace, he makes sure that Radiant keep calm. All the while they follow their guide.

Lok Mufflefoot
Tuesday July 31st, 2001 4:06:42 PM

As they walk the halfling becomes distracted easily and can barely keep track of the fact that he needed to follow Trace. All the sights and the sounds intrigued his furry brain and his attention was lost as he ambled behind.

Uteva
Tuesday July 31st, 2001 4:07:13 PM

Her freckled face flush with excitement, Teva follows Sir Thomas' tall form through the crowd, and the occasional glimpse of Altemia's hand. She leans into Ael to shout, "Let me know if you hear anyone trading components for magical paints, and try to mark the spot." The bard hesitates, glances around at the seething mass of bodies, and shrugs. "Though I don't know how you can."

Ilsidur
Tuesday July 31st, 2001 6:04:10 PM

Ilsidur stops the party as they try to move through the press (except for Trace and Lok, who are at least 10 minutes ahead), and says, "This shopping is a fool's errand. We need to hire someone who knows his way around this place, and have them do this ridiculous shopping for us. Meanwhile, let's get over to the message service, and buy some information from them about Void. What do you think?"

Trace and Lok make their bargain and the messenger looks at them and then simply states, "You need to pay half now and half at time of delivery."After you pay her the front half of her payment, she takes off moving a rapid pace seemingly finding a path where one didnt exist before. You all are not as adept as she is and you are fighting for every foot of the way in the noisy crowd. You manage to make enough progress to just keep her in sight so you know what direction she is heading.

(Trace and Lok make a spot skill check please.)

Uteva, Sir Thomas, Sly, Altemia, Ilsidur, and Alyndar make their way deeper on to the bridge, working their way slowly through the buyers and sellers (make listen check if you are trying to hear anything specific DC 12) Every now and then you see a brown liveried messenger running along. About five minutes in to your walk you get caught up in a huge cluster of people watching a below average excuse for a magician. He seems to be creating and juggling small balls of light that appear and disappear in an apparent random manner.

Completely distracted now by their insane pace the halfling is barely even able to spot Trace's bottom through the crowd (spot check 3). "Yes radiant might be a great help here in fact. He'd certainly have a more interesting view of the crowd than I have." he finishes winking at nobody in particular beyond the sea of posteriors in front of him.

Ilsidur glances at the magician trying to juggle the light balls. "Hmpph, I'm sure Lok could do a better job than that." He continues to make his way to the section of the bridge holding the brown-liveried messengers. Trace and Lok are slowly faling behind their guide when the send Radiant ahead to spot for them and Radiant takes off after the fleet footed guide. Just about that time Trace and Lok are all but run over by several folk pushing through the crowd from behind them. As Trace picks himself up he realizes that his money pouch is missing. Quickly looking around he sees four people hurrying around a corner up ahead.

The Uteva's group comes upon the bottle neck around the magician and several of the group stop to watch for a few moments. As you all finally start moving again and finally break through the bottleneck, Uteva, Sly, and Ilsidur all realize that they are missing their money pouches. Altemia and Alyndar feel hands at their pouches but manage to keep yhem but dont see who was trying to pinch them. Sir Thomas however not only feels someone trying to pinch it but emerges from the crowd behind you dragging a skinny young waif in his midst.

Trace let's Radiant go,"Follow" said Trace. While trace arm was out stretch, he feels something bump him off balance, and he falls. Then he realize that his money pouch is gone, "Loc my belt pouch is gone, SEE! those four people going around the corner." Then Trace asks of Loc, "Now what do we do? Go after the messenger? or The thieves?"

Sly Foxx and Luke

Sly has his hands full with the baskets. When he feels a small tug, then he realizes that his money pouch id gone. Sly look around but see just a mass of people. "OH! OH! girls I think we been rub?" Then he looks at Luke,"Did you see anything Luke?" Luke just sit there with his thong hanging out.

Alyndar
Wednesday August 1st, 2001 9:46:16 PM

Knowing this was gonna happen, Aly heads back to the Warehouse. Keeping a firm grip on his moneypouch, looking extra carefully for other thieves.

When the group arrives back from whatever they decided to do, they find Aly's cart and Donkey and Ox ready to travel, with all his wagon replenished. Aly will be in the house, making a For Sale sign and Going out of Business sign.

Lok Mufflefoot
Thursday August 2nd, 2001 10:00:39 AM

Not hesitating one bit the halfilng replies "Follow the thieves. We can always get another guide with the gold from our pouches when we get them back." Suddenly his mode changes and Lok runs as fast as possible after the fleet footed thieves trying to track them. Thieving was his business, so to have one's pouch taken by another thief in itself was shameful. Lok gripped his small silver ball in his hand and as well touched just the hilt of Twiddle wondering if the thieves had been orcs.

Sir Thomas (with thief)
Thursday August 2nd, 2001 2:59:18 PM

Thomas notices the small girl reaching for his pouch and grabs her by the wrist while she tries to loosen it from his belt. He keeps ahold of her wrist as he grabs her waist and hauls her out of the crowd. "THIEF!!" he exclaims loudly. Then in a lower tone, "My friends have some questions for you. I think the local authorities will probably like to speak with you as well." Thomas holds her with a tight, uncomfortable grip to ensure that she does not get away. He also keeps his eye on her free hand to be sure she does not reach for a weapon. "Keep that hand in sight, or there will be more trouble than you can handle young lady."

Altemia (Clay)
Thursday August 2nd, 2001 3:03:27 PM

Altemia breathes a sigh of relief that she had her pouch in her hand when the thief reached for it. She didn't even consider chasing the more nibble person throught the crowd. Her warrior's sense told her that there was trouble in this crowd. She keeps one hand on her pouch and the other in the air. She goes looking for the group and is quite relieved that Thomas walked out with one of the thieves.

Uteva
Thursday August 2nd, 2001 4:47:55 PM

Not at all happy to find she's lost her purse, still Uteva winces at Sir Thomas' shout. They have learned through experience in recent weeks that Hook City's laws are rather strict. She doesn't want to see a child pay too strong a penalty.

The bard releases Ael's arm to approach the paladin and his captive, maintaining eye contact with the waif. "Dear me, Sir Thomas. I seem to have dropped my belt pouch. I wonder what can have happened to it? I also wonder how the Market Wardens deal with thievery on their turf."

DM Kent
Thursday August 2nd, 2001 11:09:16 PM

Alyndar heads back to the Warehouse and recieves some very puzzling looks from the neighbors as he goes toward the door. As he opens the door and steps inside, he realizes that something is very very wrong. Looking up he sees the four familiar faces of the Mudhound Mercs. (reflex save flatfooted)

Trace and Lok leave off their following of their guide, figuring Radiant will be able to at least send them in the right direction when he returns, and tear off after the pickpockets. As they turn the corner they see them just ahead and going around another corner. Thinking they might actually have a chance to catch them, Trace and Lok speed up and turn the next corner and find themselves face to face with the Pickpockets and two of their friends. All four of them have swords drawn and are waiting for you. (reflex saves to avoid A.O.P.)

As Sir Thomas raises the hue and cry about theives, there are several other voices raised as well. Comments about lost purses, accusations, denials and calls for the Watch are all heard as you pull away from the crowd. The crowd itself is getting a bit rowdy and big trouble could soon occur if something isn't done. At the first call of thief the Magician seems to have disappeared.

The little girl wilts as Sir Thomas and Uteva mention the Watch and is basically dead weight right now. She is whimpering and tears are flowing down her face. "<wh>Please don hurt me. I proms I won dos nuttn els. Jus don gimme oer t' the Marketeers."

Ael the Dazed and Preoccupied
Friday August 3rd, 2001 9:33:48 AM

Ael wakes up from his trance at the shouting, and the sudden lack of Uteva's hand on his arm. His brow crinkles and he checks his pouch, and finds only lint. Looking frantically around, he sees Aly depart through the crowd, and Lok run off madly.

Quickly, he walks up to Uteva and Thomas, so as not to loose them...

Ilsidur frowns and swears, "By Foragar's flat foot, I knew this was a fool's errand from the start!" Knowing full well they never should have tried to go onto the bridge in the first place, in these crowds and not knowing the city, he casts his Fly spell on himself. [OOC: Kent, did you get the list of spells? You never replied to my e-mail. If not, send me a note and I will resend.] He soars over the crowd, calling to the group of Sir Thomas, Sly, Ael, Uteva and Altemia, "Let's get off this bridge and back to the warehouse, and tell that crazy fruit seller what a ridiculous task she has sent us on! We need to get off the bridge before someone loses more their purse! I'll find Trace, Lok and Alyndar and get them back as well. Uteva, if you have that whispering spell, can you cast it on a bunch of us, including me, so that we can communicate over the distances?"

Once Uteva has cast the spell (assuming she can), Ilsidur flies as fast as he can (he can cover 360' per 6 second round), shouting for Trace, Lok and Alyndar. He also looks in the sky for Radiant, figuring the bird could lead him to Trace. [OOC: rolled a 13 for Spot check to find the others, including Radiant, don't know the bonuses.]

Trace and Loc
Trace and Loc make it around the corner realize in time what they see and dont get within striking distance of the ruffians. Trace calls to Radiant and then realizes that Radiant is not there, having already been sent on before to follow their guide.

The four ruffians all advance on Trace and Loc and attack two on each. (Loc gets an Attack of opportunity since he has steal already drawn)

Uteva casts her spell and Ael Sly and Thomas all hear her message. Ilsidur, for one moment hears "at work" before he hears no more. Thomas pauses, "If you think I'm kidding, then try me, but I assure you that there is nothing in my current code of honor that will stop me. I am extremely angry today." Thomas' body begins to quiver and quake with the effort of his words. He even shakes the girl for emphasis of his point.

Pryte-Honos charges up to the four members of the mudhole mercs and attacks them to help Alyndar escape. He whinies and stamps and maneuvers to try keep from being attacked himself. We'll get more answers from her there. THis crowd is getting really rowdy." then she throws in a comment for the thief, "we can cut her fingers off there if we choose to do so. That seems like a fair penalty for thieving, and we won't get caught doing it in the privacy of our home." She speaks up to the rest of the group, "WE need to regroup, and get out of here. I don't want to be around when a riot breaks out. Those are always bad news; even if you are involved."

The last he said was for us to head back home, so our best chance of reconnecting is to do just that. Bring her along, gentlemen." Teva checks to make sure Ael is still with them, then orienting on the line of skyhooks, starts leading the way on a diagonal, heading partly back toward the south end of the Bridge, and partly toward the nearest side. She hopes to reach the edge of the crowd before it gets too rowdy. She nudges Sly on her way past him, and winks. "Nice catch."

Ael, Uteva, Sir Thomas, Altemia and Sly

With little thief in tow, she is ataying as far away from Thomas as she can, The largest group of you makes their way back to the start of the bridge.

Alyndar

Alyndar puts on the brakes and heads back to the door and with a deep breath opens it back up and steps inside. All was the same as before except that behind the Mercs he sees there are several of the people from the neighborhood bound and gagged on the floor.

The blond bearded noble looking one looks up at you re-entry and scoffs. "So, the yellow-bellied one decided to come back. Where's your back-up? Or are they still running? We have a little proposition for you, so go find your litter-mates and mosey on back here. Oh and I would recommend before sun down. I would hate to see any of your neighbors get hurt."

Trace and Loc

Trace reels with his injuries and prepares for the next onslaught by drawing his sword and going pack to back with Loc whom seems to be pretty wobbly from those last blows. So much so that when he retaliates he dropped his dagger (you rolled a natural 1) Luckily for the intreppid duo the ruffians cant take advantage of the situation as they all just barely miss as they encirle the embattle two.

Ilsidur

Somehow managing to guess the right direction (I gave you 5% chance, rolled a 1) Ilsidur flies almost directly to the alley where his friends are engaged. As he locates them he sees that bothe are wounded and bleeding freely. They seem to be standing back to back and facing four opponents.

Alyndar
Tuesday August 7th, 2001 12:12:44 AM

Aly smiles at the hoods and walks away. He heads straight to the area watch and asks to speak with whoever is in charge. When introduced, he informs him that in Madame Chloe's warehouse, my warehouse, and gives him / her directions, there is a group of people known as the Mudhound Mercs, without my permission, with a few towns folk bound and gagged requesting that me and my friends return for some kind of deal. I don't know about you, but where I come from, that's considered kidnapping and highly looked down upon, not to mention trespassing and breaking and entering. So, I wish to file a report with you about this matter and politely request that you send your men to handle the situation. Almost forgetting, Aly shows his citizenship card to this person.

After the interview, Aly will go with his armed men to the warehouse so they wont get lost. Ushering them as fast as he can, reminding them that other citizens are at danger and if it presents itself, will hire a boy to go to the bridge to find his friends and tell them to get to the warehouse now, emphasizing the word Now.

Sir Thomas (uteva's communications)
Tuesday August 7th, 2001 8:31:28 AM

Angry at the whole situation of being crowded and that most of his friends lost their purses to the group of thieves, not to mention his current personal troubles, Thomas stares with hatred at the little thief. He goes over and grabs the wrist that Sly does not have a hold on. "Good grab Sly." He says coldly. He does not try to hurt the girl, just to intimidate her into submission as they walk toward the warehouse.

Ilsidur
Tuesday August 7th, 2001 11:34:10 AM

[OOC: I am away from a computer until Thursday night. This will be my last post until then. Ilsidur will try to get Lok and Trace back to the warehouse. He will fight if necessary.]

Ilsidur lands within 30 feet of the melee and draws his waraxe and shield. He shouts back down the alley behind him, "Come on guys, around this corner, I've found them!"

Then he turns and looks at the combatants and shouts, "Trace, Lok, let's get out of here! You four, step away from my friends, or when the rest of the group gets here, there will be no mercy shown to any of you! Trace, Lok, stop fighting and lets get back to the warehouse. I'm worried about our gear. This bridge is no place for someone who doesn't know what is going on."

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Tuesday August 7th, 2001 5:12:31 PM

Altemia follows along with the rest of the group on the way back to the warehouse. She keeps one hand on her money pouch and the other on her scimitar. Her eyes seem to keep returning to Sir Thomas and her thoughts do too.

Tara circles around the warehouse looking for a way in. When she spots Alyndar coming back she trails after him since she knows him.

(OOC:I don't know about Kevil, whether or not he is inside the warehouse or not, it was never said.)

Trace and Loc and Ilsidur

Trace and Lok finally have a little success with their attacks although, Lok is leaving more on the ground than he has remaining on his body. The four ruffians look up as Ilsidur flies around and brandishes his axe and calls around the corner for reinforcements and then with a look at each other, slowly start backing up and back down the alleyway. Moments later Trace, Lok and Ilsidur are alone in the alley.

Ael, Uteva, Sir Thomas, Altemia and Sly

The major part of the group gets back to the warehouse just as the guard and Alyndar do. As Alyndar updates the rest of the group on what's going on inside, The four guards follow along until they arrive at the warehouse and then they wait for your instructions.

Inside the warehouse, unbeknownst to the Mercs, Kevil watches the two groups of strangers as they sit and chat.

Trace tries to swing again, but fall on one knee. Trace ask if Loc is all right, then look at Ilsidur, "You know you never look so good as you do right now! Thank you. Come on Loc, let's get back to the rest of the group." Trace will help pick up their weapons.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Tuesday August 7th, 2001 11:19:01 PM

Sly releases the little girl to Sir Thomas, and watches the war dog (Luke) run down the mob street and around the corner. Then Sly will pick up the fruits and some nuts that he find around the tip basket. Then takes a last look to see like coming back around the corner with the rest of the party. "OK! Girls, let go back to the warehouse and eat. I'm hungry." Off they go.

Alyndar
Tuesday August 7th, 2001 11:27:07 PM

looks at the 4 guards and says: this is all that comes for a call of kidnapping and trespassing and breaking and entering? What are you looking at me for, i'm not a guard. Do what you guys do, get in there and arrest them.

(rolls his eyes)

Uteva
Wednesday August 8th, 2001 10:03:51 AM

Teva listens in astonishment to Alyndar's explanation, then holds the others back for a quick chat. "Why is it that we keep running into these guys when we're split up? Sly and Sir Thomas know the Mercs better than the rest of us, so let's let them handle what the guard won't. Altemia, can you take the waif to keep her from distracting Sly?"

The bard follows the others to the warehouse, keeping herself slightly behind the paladin's bulk so that the Mercs can't see her whispering, "Ilsidur, trouble at home. Go around back. Ils, can you hear me? Mercs in the warehouse with hostages. Ilsidur, come in." She keeps this up, hoping for the dwarf to come within range. If he answers her, she explains the situation and suggests he and the others stay out of sight and try to get into the warehouse from the rear.

Ael d'Gaiaim
Wednesday August 8th, 2001 10:52:11 AM

Ael gives Uteva a puzzled glance. "Mercs? Who are they? I assume that these are unsavories whom you have had the displeasure of meeting in the past?"

Frowning, he silently thanks whatever power made him memorize his battle spells that day, instead of many divinations.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Wednesday August 8th, 2001 2:57:28 PM

Altemia takes hold of the girls so that the other will be free to deal with the mercs if necessary. Seeing Tara with Aly, she motions her over. Gaging the girls reaction to the wolf, she sets Tara to guard her. Before Uteva walks away, Altemia takes her arm to keep her there for a moment.

"As far as I know, Kevil should be inside. If things get to fighting stage, he should jump in to help since he has fought with you before. That is, if he can."

A quick frown crosses her face as she speaks. A low rumble from Tara causes her to turn back to their small prisoner.

Sir Thomas
Wednesday August 8th, 2001 5:28:58 PM

Thomas looks unsure as the group heards him into the warehouse. He draws his sword and offers some instruction to the guards before they all enter. "Here's what I suggest. I think one of you should run to get some reinforcements because I don't think these guys are going to come quietly. I also don't want to get into a fight here that might land us in the middle of another challenge, so I suggest another of you stay near the door to back up our claim that they are breaking and entering into our property. The other two flank me. Alyndar, I would like you and Altemia and Uteva to stay here at the door until Trace, Sly, Ilsidur, and Lok get back. I'll try to talk first, but knowing the strong hand that these guys live by I doubt this is going to go easily. By the way, I'm not sure I'm the best candidate for this job right now, but I'll do my best." Thomas walks into the warehouse. In as commanding of a voice as he can muster, Thomas calls, "Why are you in our warehouse without our permission? I believe they lable that type of thing a criminal action." He surveys the room waiting for a reply.

Something about the situation strikes the halfling as odd and just as he scoops up his weapons he tries to silently stalk after their attackers to determine where they were going. Thieves would usually rather run than fight any day. The fact that they had stood their ground was surprising in the least. Running off after them (move silently 28) the halfling says before he goes "I'm gonna see if i can find where they are going, come on if you like."

DM Kent
Thursday August 9th, 2001 6:56:23 PM

Lok gets to the end of the alley and looks both ways and sees absolutely nothing. It is like they vanished in to thin air.

The Guards look at Alyndar as if to ask if he is coming in as well and then with a unison shrug of the shoulders, open the door and walk in. The door closes behind them.

About five minutes pass and the door reopens and out come the three civilians and the four guards. After closing the door behind them they step out and stop in front of Alyndar. They agreed to release the people they caught loitering in the warehouse and for the time being are not going to press charges. However as for us removing them, well, they seem to be claiming that this is their warehouse and have some sort of patent of birthright showing that one of them is distantly related to Chloe and hence they are the true owners of the warehouse and not you. We will make our report and contact the civil authority to help figure this out. Have a nice day and all profit to you. They leave.

Sly who is standing in back of Sir Thomas, Puts a hand on his shoulder, "Sir Thomas, why am I not suprised? This is very familiar, Remember the thief we caught in Mud City? She was trying to steel from us too. She was very scared of something, the Guards? the city? Her brother who is or was in jail here? Just like this little one here. She is just as scared and we will not get information from her either. These mugs are very well trench and somebody is backing them up. Tell me, Sir Thomas or anybody, am I making any sense?" Sly will turn to see if the girl is in good condition or just as scared as before.

Sir Thomas
Friday August 10th, 2001 7:50:48 AM

As Thomas' face grows increasingly red he loses more and more control. "This is a god forsaken town, and I am a god forsaken man. I must leave! There is no other way about this." Reluctantly, THomas continues. "I know this is sudden for all of you, but I can't sit around idly any more. Something I did in the fight with Bear and Void angered my Lord Alemi, I no longer have his favor when I brush my teeth let alone if I were to fight for his honor. That has been my trouble lately that you have all taken quite an interest in; that has been my sadness. All that I live for has been taken from me for doing what I believed in. I have been trying to pray and atone myself in a civil way, but it seems that it cannot occur in this place where laws are only rules that keep the strong in power, and the weak under the boot of the strong. I don't know what I have to do, but I am collecting Pryte-Honos, wherever he has wondered off to, and I will go to the house of Alemi to inquire as to how to atone for myself. I won't ask any of you to accompany me, but I refuse to stay in this place any longer. My heart grows heavier and heavier with each day, and I simply don't think I can handle how this town deals with people. If you ask me, I say we just let the mercenary's claim stand and we leave, but I won't be so selfish as to ask any one of you to come with me. This thing I must do though." Thomas walks into the warehouse to get Pryte. If he is not there Thomas will begin searching around the warehouse and at nearby stables. When he has collected Pryte, he goes to the house of Alemi. He does not even look at the mercenaries while he is in the warehouse. Also, while he is in the building, he gathers his backpack and other items, taking them with him as he leaves.

Ilsidur
Friday August 10th, 2001 9:04:19 AM

Ilsidur flies back to the warehouse, and arrives in time to see Sir Thomas leaving. He lands, and gets filled in by Alyndar.

"I agree with what Sir Thomas has had to say. I also need to get out of this ridiculous, rule-ridden city. I have a feeling Sir Thomas is going to need our help. I suggest we approach the Mud City Mercs and get them to pay us to drop the challenge. Then we can go into the warehouse, remove our gear and some of the better items (we can claim them as ours), and tell them we want 1000 purple chits with yellow spots and we will abandon our claim to the warehouse, and they can have the business and the house and the warehouse. But if we do that, what do we do about raising Madame Chloe? I still think that is our best choice."

Ael d'Gaiaim
Friday August 10th, 2001 9:23:35 AM

Ael listens to Sir Thomas, the frown on his face growing deeper with each word. As Thomas claims to be forsaken, Ael twitches and a hard, burning look comes to his eyes. He blinks slowly, deliberately.

"It matters not if these...piles of miscast and burnt cantrip pages used as compost...can claim the warehouse or not. Let us restore Madame Chloe to life, and leave. The men will likely not get the shop, and we shall obtain some small satisfaction in so doing. And yet I must admit their deaths would bring me...pleasure."

Still hauling along his book, his knuckles tighten on the binding until they appear white, like those of a corpse.

Lok Mufflefoot
Friday August 10th, 2001 9:50:57 AM

The halfling nods somberly as his own blood stains his shirt terribly. "Trace, I'm not exactly proud of the fact, but I have aquired items in my life sometimes to survive." Lok explains with drooping ears as if this were a fact that should shock his companion.
"And the fact is, that a thieves don't work in groups unless there is a reason to it. Maybe a thieves guild, maybe something else. If all they wanted was our gold, they could have left us and vanished as they did without confronting us. And they had people waiting with swords drawn, extra people to take us out. There's something bad going on."
His ears droop and he turns his big eyes to Trace hoping that his friend thinks no less of him as they walk on.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Friday August 10th, 2001 4:27:30 PM

Altemia watches Sir Thomas's face when he begins his outburts. Her heart tugs while she watches him. Even Tara whimpers a bit, although she never relaxes her guard on the girl.

"I have to admit, I'm not sure what to do either. Maybe we should have them pay us to not challenge them as Ilsidur suggested. Then I say we definitely raise Madame Chloe. Then, she gets the warehouse back and those mercs are out. At least I hope it works that way. Before we do it, we should ask one of the many officials in this town first. I'd hate for Madame Chloe not to get the warehouse back if we did raise her."

Kevil continues to watch the Mercs in the warehouse.

Sir Thomas goes inside to collect his things noting that the Mercs are there sitting as if waiting for something. They glance up as Thomas enters and watches as he gathers his things but no words are exchanged. Thomas exits the warehouse and finds Pryte-Honos stabled around behind the warehouse and goes with him back to the front of the warehouse but is in a foul-tempered mood and laid his ears back flat as Thomas saddled and bridled him.

As Sir Thomas mounts and readies to ride off Trace, Lok and Ilsidur come jogging and flying up.

As you continue your discussions the guards and the family leave.......

Moments after Thomas leaves the warehouse there is an extremely loud bust of howling laughter heard coming from within the warehouse and then just as suddenly absolute quiet. seconds later there is the sound of a lone wolf howl coming from inside.

Trace and Radiant (Ceil)

Trace (who is jogging with a slight limp) and Lok are almost at the warehouse. Trace is speaking to Lok, "Lok dear friend, Back at home I had friend's who acquired ITEMS to survived and they are still my friends. We elves look into a man's heart and judge his bravery, to measure a man worth. And I'm glad to call you my friend, Now I wanted you to come with me because I had a lead on Void and needed your talent with your fingers. But now I see that we were led into a trap. I'm sorry, My Friend. Now let's get cured and eat!" They arrive at the warehouse and ask, "Hey! What's happening?"

Sly Foxx and Luke

Sly welcome Luke back as the dog come running to him. Sly kneels and scratches his ears. "You didn't get hurt did you, boy! Nah your all right." Sly watches Sir Thomas as he rides of again and he is still in a foul mood. Then turns to the girls, "We better ask Alyndar what to do next?" Then there was laughter in side the warehouse, Then suddenly all was quiet. We (the party) all look at each other and the sound of a Wolf howling came from inside the warehouse.

Ael d'Gaiaim

Ael stands still, watching Sir Thomas depart, and the group debate. His hand trembles as it holds the tome, and the color seems to drain from his face in response to his anger.

The mage's empty hand curls into a trembling fist. "There will always be opressive rules, created by idiotic politicians, no matter how enlightened a society thinks it is. What use is magic?"

Staring hatefully at the city at large, Ael sits down, inconsolable.

Uteva
Monday August 13th, 2001 2:48:52 PM

"Argh! This is ridiculous. Alyndar has official document giving him title to Chloe's former property. Unless and until those are revoked, we have every right to be here." With that, the slim bard stomps her way inside, looking around for Kevil. She glares her way past the Mudhound Mercs to reach the back apartment, where she checks over the party's belongings.

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Monday August 13th, 2001 6:55:23 PM

Altemia hears Kevils mournful cry and with a look at Tara, the two head into the warehouse, little girl in tow.

Altemia stands there with her hand encircling the girls wrist and scans the warehouse for her other friend. A quick whistle from Altmemia and a whine from Tara are all that are needed to bring the male wolf out of hiding.

Ilsidur
Monday August 13th, 2001 7:26:56 PM

"Uh oh, I have a bad feeling about this," Ilsidur thinks to himself as he follows Uteva and Altemia into the warehouse. He readies his shield and waraxe, just in case they become necessary. Once inside, he tries to locate as many of the Mercs as possible.

As the party enters the warehouse after Thomas rides off, the first thing they see as they enter, is a dissapating swirl of colored smoke right where Alyndar had reported the Mudhound Mercs as sitting around.
The second thing you notice is that the Mercs are no where to be seen.
And the third thing you notice is Kevil edging around the smokey area ears laid back and tail almost tucked under him as he slinks over to Altemia and his mate.
Nothing apears to be missing, and in fact none of your things seem even to have been touched.

Trace with Lok, arrive at the warehouse just in time to see Sir Thomas ride down the street in a fowl mood. Then the rest of the party rush into the warehouse. Sir Thomas
Tuesday August 14th, 2001 9:52:11 AM

Thomas politely thanks the boy that takes Pryte-Honos and tips him two gold pieces. He enters the temple and asks for the priest with whom he spent the last two weeks consulting. When he is seated with that priest, Thomas asks these questions and is adamant about getting their answers. "Sir, you know the story of my fall from favor with our lord, Alemi. I NEED to know how to atone for myself. What actions must I perform? How can I show that I am really sorry for what I did? However, I feel that Alemi knows that I felt justified to perform those unfavorable actions for the greater good, so how do I go redefine what I think Alemi wants? I NEED to have Alemi's favor sir, please help me show Alemi that I am sorry and that I will try harder to promote Alemi's justice."

Ilsidur
Tuesday August 14th, 2001 1:04:01 PM

Ilsidur looks around the warehouse, puzzled. "What were those Mercs doing here, anyways? Were they staking a claim for the business, or just tweaking our noses, in response to our saving the girl earlier on? Either way, I am going to see about getting Madame Chloe back, and getting her this business back, so we can get out of this city as soon as possible. We seem to be stumbling blindly from one situation to the next, totally out of control, not knowing what is going on. I, for one, do not like that feeling."

Ilsidur waits for a few minutes, as everyone checks the warehouse. He casts detect magic, and scans the entire warehouse and immediate grounds (including the basement) to make sure no-one is magically hiding in the area. Assuming he finds no-one, he travels over to City Hall, to find out how to go about claiming Madame Chloe's body, for raising. "Is anyone coming with me to get Madame Chloe?" he asks as he leaves the warehouse. "Trace, if there is any problem, send Radiant to get me back. Have your bird look for the tabard that I will be wearing."

"I don't get it." As puzzled as the rest, Teva circles the swirling cloud. "Was it a diversion, maybe? Altemia, Sly, you two know the neighbours pretty well. Can you check to see that the family is okay, maybe find out what they overheard while the Mercs had them? Alyndar can check if the shop has been disturbed."

She looks at the young thief and points to a nearby wooden crate. "Sit," she directs. "Whoever doesn't go with Ilsidur can help me talk to our young thief, here." While waiting for everyone to sort themselves out, she asks, "Did you two find out what that headless freak was doing in the Market?"

Thanking Trace for his kind words the halfling arrives and is rather confused. Something about the way the wolf was there, made the whole area seem odd. "I'm glad nothing happened to you. Either one of you."

She stands up and motions to the wolves to follow.

"Are you coming Big Brother?"

Ael and Sly both reckognize that there is a pentagram magically etched in to the floor of the warehouse where the Mercs were supposed to have been. It appears to be permanent.

Ilsidur casts his spell and other than the items that the party owns, the spell lights up the pentagram for all to see.

Kevil and Luke seem to be naturally avoiding the area where the pentagram walking only to and around the permeter even before it is visable.

The girl looks up at Uteva and fearfully says, "Yous wan me t'go in 'ere and set? I'd ruther be skinned and drug thru salt. I ain gonna do't."

Sir Thomas is shown in to the temple and told to wait and that the Priest would be with him shortly.

The priest listens to Sir Thomas and quietly tells him. "I have been thinking about your dilema. I think that your rededication to Alemi is going to be a multi step atonement. I don't know even then what the results will be. The augury I cast was inconclusive.

In any case, You will have to start with a full ritual or purification. You will need to rededicate yourself to Alemi's techings and in all likelihood need to perform one or more tasks and then you will need to make a regular tithe to aid the poor in the area you are in.

As you do these things you may regain none, some or possibly all of your gifts to some extent, but it is hard to say.

"Yes, Little Sister, I'll be right with you girls. But first I want to take a look at this pentagram." Said Sly as he goes and squats next to the thing. "Thank you Ilsidur, Any body recognize which demon this is made out to?"

Luke will not go near the pentagram, and he just want to be with the wolves.

Trace and Radiant (Ceil)
Wednesday August 15th, 2001 8:29:59 PM

Trace enters the ware house just as Ilsidur cast his spell. Trace kneels on one knee and ask Sly,"Well, Little brother, I think we need a holy man and one way or another we have trouble, Big Trouble!"

Radiant Flies in to the warehouse and flies to his perch. I his talons is his dinner.

Ael d'Gaiaim  d20+12=22
Thursday August 16th, 2001 9:42:19 AM

Ael walks around the pentagram, and studies it, destracting himself from his concerns. Upon Sly's comment, he says "Actually, while the most famous use for the pentigram is for sketching a containment area, it can be used to modify or skew spacetime, or the 'phantom strings' which control magic. It may have several of almost limitless purposes."

Frowning at it, he straightens and speaks sharply. (Casting his own detect magic spell.) "I will attempt to discover, at the least, its general bent." After the spell is cast, he bends, studying the pattern around him.
(Spellcraft roll = 22)

The focus evident on his face, he mumbles to the group at large: "If it *is* truely a containment pentacle, we must remain aware that such diagrams can keep things in...OR out."

Ilsidur
Thursday August 16th, 2001 12:42:12 PM

Ilsidur puts on the Southern Lights tabard, and readies to leave the warehouse. "Trace, I am heading directly for City Hall; if you need me back, you can send Radiant to come and find me. Also, I'll take the speed boots, so that I can get back quickly if needed." Ilsidur sits down and puts the boots on, smiling as they form-fit to his feet.

He exits the main doors, and heads across town to get to City Hall. He thinks to himself as he hurries along, "Boy, am I ever looking forward to dealing with that fantastically well-oiled machine of a city bureaucracy." A wry grin crosses his face.

Uteva
Thursday August 16th, 2001 3:37:54 PM

"Demons?" The bard pales, leaving her freckles standing out starkly. "All right, honey. We can talk out here, if you like." Teva has the waif sit against the wall, just outside the door, and stands so that she can watch the goings-on around the penta-whosits while she talks to the girl. "As long you give me truthfully answers, we'll stay safe out here. Now, how about you tell me what you were doing at the Market today?"

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Thursday August 16th, 2001 4:13:46 PM

"You go ahead and play with your magic, then," Altemia says smilingly. "I'm going to go ahead and check on the neighbors."

If she seems in a hurry to get the wolves and herself out of there, hopefully no one notices.

"Since Luke is so edgy, I'll take him with me if you want."

She motions to all the canines and heads outside to check on the neighbors and see what they have to say.

Sir Thomas
Thursday August 16th, 2001 4:23:58 PM

Thomas sighs, an action that does not seem to relieve any stress from the disfavored knight. He then enters into a barrage of questions for the priest. "Ok then, at least I have a course of action upon which to act. How can I rededicate myself to Alemi? Do I need to continue to pray here at the temple? Do I need to attend classes? Is it something that I can do while still traveling with my group of friends? Do I need to read about his teachings again from a book? What if the book I read has differences from the teachings that I was origianlly taught; how will I know which is correct?" Thomas' brow furoughs with all of the questions he has and the uncertainty of his future.

Trace and Sly peer closely at the pentagram remembering that the Mercs were supposedly inside the pentagram earlier.

As Ael casts his spell, continues his inspection and lecture he discovers that this pentagram is used as a trans-dimensional relocation device (translated it is basically a teleport pad). He also can tell that it has been here for a good while.

Uteva relents and lets the girl sit somewhere else as she starts her questioning. She looks longingly at the fruit basket Uteva is holding. "Truff? Liks yu gonna beleef me an wut I says." She shakes her head a moment and at Uteva's question, she looks at Uteva like she has lost her mind. " I was pik'n mark's pocks. Yu ottah knows 'at. Hey, could I have some fruit."

Altemia has no difficulty finding the family that was the Merc's captives as they live just around the corner. In fact they live next to Orchid. They are talking with Orchid as Altemia arrives.

Ilsidur arrives at City Hall and looks up the 40-step stairway leading to the front doors. Quickly traversing then he opens the door to the ornate, impersonal lobby. There is a front desk with a harried looking man behind it. There are long, many-doored hallways to the left and right of the desk and two ornate winding stairways at each side of the building.

The priest looks sadly at Thomasb for a moment and then attempts to answer the paladin's questions. Well, The ritual of purification will need to take place here in the temple and will take a full 24 hours. You must fast and your mind and body must be purified. I expect that you will NEED to do the necessary tasks while you are with your friends, as you were with them when the transgression occurred. Your rededication to Alemi will mostly occur while you meditate on your previous teachings and knowledge. I expect that you will be guided along your way if you are true to your desires. I will leave you here for a while so that you may prepare for the purification ritual. I will also send word to your friends where you are, if you like.

Sly Foxx and Luke
Thursday August 16th, 2001 9:22:38 PM

"You Know, Trace, do you remember the last time we saw Madam Cleo" said Sly, "She was very edgy and as I look back, she was scared, I wonder if those Mercs approach her with a deal of some kind?"
Sly tells Luke to go with Altemia. "Little Sister needs you." Luke takes off after Altemia and the wolves.

Trace and Radiant (Ceil)
Thursday August 16th, 2001 9:45:26 PM

"Yes,! she was. Then turn up dead and if I don't miss my quest we will never be able to raise he either?"said Trace. "I can remember back in the woods when we were fighting Bear and his band of Orcs. Remember you almost captured that teen age orc but Bear killed him and that that @%&##!&**~ of an hellhound, just up and disappeared. I remember that he had an amulet around his neck, but not wearing it at the Swan Bath House. Ilsidur this is getting very interesting, Where is Alyndar?"

Sir Thomas
Thursday August 16th, 2001 11:22:49 PM

Thomas smiles a sad smile. "Thank you good sir. You can trust that I am true to this goal. It is what I live for. I would like it if you sent word to my friends as to my whereabouts and my chores and needs for the next 24 hours. They are residing in Madame Chloe's old warehouse, I believe the block is number 452. Thank you again." Thomas then pauses and asks one last thing, "Sir, if I may, I have one more question. Do you have a place that I may store my armor while I go through the purification?" Thomas waits patiently for the priest's final directions and then begins to remove his armor and prepare himself for the purification ceremony.

Uteva
Friday August 17th, 2001 1:19:47 PM

"Marks, it is?" The bard purses her lips, considering. "Well, I usually go by Teva. How about if you call me that, instead? And I'll call you by your name, if you share it." Teva selects a banana from the basket and examines it for blemishes. "I might be willing to share some fruit, in return." She begins to peel the banana, watching the girl carefully. "Who were you working with today, then? Do you know the shill with the corny magic tricks who so conveniently distracted the marks?"

Lok Mufflefoot
Friday August 17th, 2001 5:00:40 PM

The halfling shudders remembering the orcs. Then he says questioningly "You suggesting that Bear is not really bear? Or maybe i dunno." He seems to lose interest in the situation and it is obvious that his furry brain simply wants to rest and relax for a bit.
"Sly, Trace let's go to a bar! We've been worried and thinking for too long. Let's just relax and be care free for a night!"
Whipping out his trusty silver balls the halfling happily begins juggling them.

Ilsidur
Friday August 17th, 2001 9:31:25 PM

lsidur approaches the reception desk, and says, "Good day, sir. I am enquiring as to how to recover a lady's body. She was murdered 2 days ago [OOC: I don't remember how many game days have past, but I think it is about 2 days.] One of the members of my Champions group has taken over the lady's business, and I wish to claim her body. Her name was Madame Chloe Anstahl, and she ran a armoury shop over on Block 452. I believe she was killed at the Mad Jester's Inn. Any help would be very much appreciated."

Altemia, Tara, and Kevil
Sunday August 19th, 2001 1:24:30 AM

Altemia and her four-legged companions slowly make their way to Madame Orchid and her visitors. Knowing what they went through she doesn't want them to feel anything but safe. She approaches them smiling.

"I just wanted to check on everyone to make sure they were alright. Everyone else is back at the warehouse trying to figure out what happened."

Altemia bends down and rubs Luke behind his ears before continueing. She wants to put the people at ease before asking them to relive the experience. She looks back up at them, still smiling.

"I'd like to talk to you about what happened, if that's alright. If not now, then sometime soon, maybe. Anywhere that is convenience for you."

DM Kent

Sly,Lok, and Trace watch Ael as he works and then as Trace asks about Alyndar, they look at each other, realizing that they hadn't seen Alyndar since they got to the warehouse and he fill you all in on what was happening. Perhaps he went with the Guards but know one seems to remember.

Utevaoffers the girl her name and a starts peeling the banana, the girl watching her every move. M'name's Wringer. Mos peeps call me Rat tho, an caus I wring ther necks when I kich em.

At Uteva's other questions, she pauses a bit as if thinking. "Nows if'n I's tells yu 'at den I's might's as well go 'n kill m'self as I won be abes to work here n'mo. So why'd I go an do at fer."

Altemia walks up to the small group and Orchid raises an eye brow as you approach but says nothing. The little girl ducks behind her mams skirt a peeks out around at you from apparent safety. The Mother and father listen to what Altemia says and at first, just nod. Then as they are getting ready to go inside the Mother looks at you and asks, "won't you come inside and refresh your self with us?"

Ilsidur approaches the harried clerk, who looks up as Ilsidur hails him."What? Oh you need a lady? You as certainly in the wrong building for that! What's that? Ah, a Lady's body. 2 days, you say. Lets see that would be department C. Third floor, 2nd hall on the left, 4th door. Fill out the pink, green, and blue forms take them to the lady at the third deck from the right wall. She check your forms and ID and then will help you with what you need.

As Ilsidur turns to leave and head upstairs, The clerk looks up and hails him ne more time. "But you will need to come back tomorrow, for Department C is closed today."

Sly Foxx and Luke
Monday August 20th, 2001 2:50:34 AM

Sly gets off his knee and takes a good look around the warehouse. NO Alyndar. Sly turns to trace and Lok. "Your right! I'm getting a head ache, maybe a tankard of ale will do me fine," Sly will follow Lok and Trace to any tavern they choose, (while trying to remember the rumors he heard in the jail he visited awhile back)

Luke is with Altemia and the wolves.

Trace and Radiant(Ceil)
Monday August 20th, 2001 3:07:44 AM

Trace trying to remember as to where Alyndar went to after he had told them about the mercs. But now he's no where in sight?? *Odd* Trace thinks. "Little brother, A tankard of ale would clear our heads and I'll even see to it that you don't get drunk. Well, Loc do you know of a good bar with good ale? Wait a minute while I go into my back pack for a little gold or chits, then we are off. Lead the way Loc."

Radiant after grooming himself. will watch his master and fly to perch on Trace's paded shoulder when he leaves the warehouse.
