- 20 tanglefoot bagsMurphy asks, "If one of us fails at our task, and needs another to step in, in the very unlikely case, I can backup Tali on use magical device, or give her a little boost, at least. If Pressi has issues on disabling her device, who can stand in to help or take over? And if I cannot do what needs to be done in the alchemical side of things, who can come in to take over or assist?"

"Say, Tali, what do you think about talking with the folks at the Sages' Guild about where we're going? We helped them out. Maybe they can help us out now. They have a spot in Angel Springs you've seen before. Although the two sages who asked our help are more likely in the Floating City, perhaps Berg Alree would be better to speak with first. Dean Osto Winkmann is rather full of himself - but there's a fair chance he has good information. Berg is reasonable, and listens well. Anyway, see if any sages, or sages, can tell you more about the underbelly of the Scab, and Scald, and about Flamescorn (though we likely know more about him than they do).""How does that sound? Oh, something else I wanted to ask you. I've been told there is a fourth-level spell called greater shout - a sonic spell that might prove helpful on our journey. Heat-based attacks will likely have little or no effect. I'm not sure about electrical. But sonic? Not many people have protection against that. Don't know whether you could squeeze out another spell, and learn that one, but, well, it's just a thought."
Short listAt dinner, he hands the list to Alouryn and Hazel. "But let us first see the bairns before I recommend."
Boy: Moxie, Cotman, Peregrin, Drew, Will, Tom, Gilly, Crispin
Girl: Vixen, Foxy, Mazzy, Kerry, Teagan, Rosie, Linzy, Lithe, Whimsy, Constance
Foresight: "You receive instantaneous warnings of impending danger or harm to the subject of the spell. You are never surprised or flat-footed. In addition, the spell gives you a general idea of what action you might take to best protect yourself."So Murphy is pumping foresight to give him a clear notion as to what he might do to best protect himself against this vague looming threat, rather than learning after the harm already has come his way... "Hmmm... what is the best thing I can do to counter what may be about to befall us?"
"Lord Eberyon, you have great power, and so much of nature is yours. So much of beauty. You are creator of the Wold's Cradle, and King of the Fey. I have sought to serve you as I perceived you would want me to do. I must confess that I have fallen short from time to time, and thus I seek your forgiveness and restoration. In those ways I may have pleased you, I am grateful for the gifts you have given to enable me so to do, and grateful to my friends for their help in doing good. We face ever-increasing dangers, and now, I sense, we face a series of great tests and challenges.
"A power is now attempting to arise, and appears to be allied with devils. We have gotten to know several of this power's followers. We see the evil deeds of the power's followers. I beseech your aid against this power. Thank you, Lord Eberyon, for bending your ear to hear my prayer."
For attack rolls: +1 luck, +1 morale"Grab on to the harness if you want as we go in. Let go when you figure you're in a good spot. Let's do this - together." He also communicates his plan to flow by the scrimshawed monster, then come back against it. Murph leads the way, hauling those who want the assistance, and briefly checking to ensure none are left behind. He swims past the kikituk - preferably at a distance of more than 20', out of reach, so that people can drop off along the way where they wish to, then he turns and accelerates toward the bony thing to slam it.
For weapon damage: +1 luck
For saves: +1 luck, vs fear add also +1 morale
For skill checks: +1 luck
Bad guy(s): attack, damage, saves, skills: -1 luck
Healing by MurphyAfter the curing is complete, he comments. "We have faced two challenges. How many more do we face until the most serious one? How do we disrupt the ceremonial advancements? Do we now forge ahead to face our next challenge? Or rest and recuperate?"
Just before he beings the following medical services, Murphy asks, "WHO CAN RESTORE OUR SAPPED STRENGTH?" [I think I'm down 3, maybe 4 STR]
Tali, Nikolai, and Pressi already were healed to full by Murphy's recent +32 mass CSW.
He then heads over to Prudence, and, via the magic of a CLW wand, heals her for 8+9+8=25 hp, bringing her up to full (if the hp number in the header is accurate).
Valery was at 88, then following the CSW, mass +32, then add 6+3+9+6=24, now full up at 143.
Succotash was at 140/142 after the CSW, mass. I'm keeping that d8=1, +1 from the spell at 1st level, bringing him up to 142/142
Last, he goes to work on himself: 9+9+5+8+3+5+3+3+7+6+6+6+8+7+6+8+6+4+3+8+7+8+6+3+9+5+5+9+3=175. Back to full with 30 applications of his wand of cure light wounds, plus 8 for others. He is glad he has multiple such wands. The time taken to help everyone is about four to five minutes.
Watches:"Prudence, you get the night off, looks like."
1st - Murphy
2nd - Pressi
3rd - Nikolai?
4th - Tali? Kezzem?
5th - Succotash
Executive Summary of the 1-Page Document[/u]
The entire Crescent Valley was to have been flooded, covered over by boiling, steaming water perhaps dozen of feet deep. A wicked cabal were summoning and freeing the long-imprisoned Power known as Scald. Giants and dwarfs and drow and beastmen and elves of a wicked bent and even a twisted halfling and others had gathered to perform their foul ceremonial ritual.
Humble's Ford would have been washed away, with nearly all to perish.
Humble's Sword interrupted the wicked ritual when it was only half finished, and slew or banished all except one of their opponents, a steamy water elemental.
The adventurers go now to a hidden enclave of Fire Giants, who will work to reverse the ritual. Pray to the heavens that Humble's Sword will have the skill, mettle and wisdom to ensure a long-lasting treaty of peace between those of Crescent Ford and these Fire Giants.
And that we all return in one piece, to celebrate with our brothers and sisters of Humble's Ford.
[i]--Murphy Leafwin Pipewood, co-founder of Humble's Sword
"Delos, High Priest of Fhorge, we have heard your words, and choose to trust you in this. Recovering the artifact stolen from your temple is what we chose to do, costly though the effort was. To return it will be good for you and your people, and, we now know, good for us and our people.Druid Murphy steps back, and motions forward his friends to play their roles in the hand-over.
"This day shall mark the day when your people, and our people, different though we are, may live henceforth as Friends.
"Our dauntless companion Tali has borne the artifact hither," he says as he points to the beautiful sorceress.
He then sweeps his hand to encompass all members of Humble's Sword. "My companions now will each make a brief comment, then Tali will hand the object to our High Priest Succotash. He will say a few words. And then, so you can restore it to its place, he will pass the artifact, from priest to priest, into your hands, wise Delos, for the benefit of your people, and this place, and the good of the Wold."
"The Heart of the Mountain,He never really thought he would be leading a cheer for Fhorge, yet the druid feels quite drawn into the moment. He remembers earlier occasions when opponents turned toward friendship. It seems one of the themes that has run through the experiences of this little adventuring group. He recalls the ant people who had invaded the moon of Kerracles.
The Heart Restored,
The Heart of New Friendship,
The Force of Fhorge!"
Treaty in stoneThe halfling adds, "I thought Delos' words best described the nature of the covenant, succinctly."A Treaty of Trust and Friendship
Fhorge's Realm High Priest Delos declared:
"These heroes, known as Humble's Sword, were sent by our god to restore to us what is rightfully ours! They and their people will forevermore be known as Friends of Fhorge. Let it be known throughout the realm that no faithful shall harm them and that any plea for aid from them shall be answered with the full might of Fhorge’s Faithful!”
Humble's Sword High Druid Murphy Leafwin Pipewood said:"The Heart of the Mountain,
The Heart Restored,
The Heart of New Friendship,
The Force of Fhorge!"
For service rendered, and the generous offer of Friendship, let this be a lasting covenant between our peoples - Humble's Sword of Humble's Ford in Crescent Valley, and the Fire Giants of Fhorge's Realm.
Signed ... {representative(s) from both sides}

- Pressi Diamond Dust - my multi-talented wife whose skill set I highly appreciate and can barely understand. It's nice to be married to a wife will a skill set, y'know."Now, we have always been a halfling group. But after a recent series of related attacks, here as well as in many other locales, two members of the Mailed Fist offered to join up with us on one of our most daunting sets of challenges ever. Let me introduce:
- Kezzem, a rogue who became a paladin who smites evil and tells good jokes. At the same time, even!
- Succotash Slenderstick, former paladin, now a notable high priest of Pantheon whose best dinosaur friend is Valerie.
- Lightfooted and lovely Tali, with her owl friend Rayya. Tali knows well how to wall in the enemy with her spells, and is known for her merciful heart, and effective tactics.
- Prudence Komonov, Mistress of Flames, who helped us enormously as we visited lands of boiling waters and volcanos.Good news, good news. This may sound strange, but a city of Fire Giants has pledged friendship to us, and our communities. Can you believe it? Fire Giants? Yet it is true. We saved their pocket plane, prevented cultists from unleashing floods of boiling water over the Valley, and have a solid Treaty.
- Nikolai Komonov, tactician extraordinary. We have named them honorary halflings, and late but most needed additions to Humble's Sword.
- and myself, Murphy Leafwin Pipewood a druid.
