Armalad calls Joker away from the Portal.
The Water Mephit was already thinking along those same lines.
It quickly moves away.

Armalad plucks the Scepter from the statue's hands, then casts a spell.

The T-Rex quietly waits and digests.

Bart changes to a huge earth elemental and offers to take Drall.

Stohp holds and waits.

Suspecting the worst, Stock drinks a potion and positions himself to face what is most likely bad news.
He asks about more healing.

At Zanderallen's call, Delia moves toward the paladin.
She waits with an arrow nocked.

Zanderallen channels positive energy, healing his friends some more.

Hawky keeps working over TA.
Yes, I'd say an animal can coup-de-grace. However, this being a troll, they just keep regenerating.

All the trolls' wounds heal a little bit.
Drall opens his eyes.

The soft rain continues with an occasional far off flash and boom.

The portal opens again.

Stepping through are five figures.
At first, the rest are hard to bring into focus, given the gargantuan red tinged twin of Armalad's TRex.

But it stops after emerging.
Beside it, one hand laid protectively on the T-Rex's kneecap, is a human in a chain shirt and wielding a greatsword (F).

On the other side is a female human wearing no armor (R)
She carries a longsword in her right hand and a crossbow in her left.
She's been mirror imaged, as 5 images of her float disorientingly about.

Behind R stands a female catfolk (C)
She wears chainmail armor and a Warhammer hangs at her hip.

And finally, behind the fighter is a figure familiar to the longer tenured PCs (Stock, Stohp, Bartomus, Zanderallen).
It is the vampire Lord Vanius. (V)

A very pale, very good looking, male half elf, armored in breastplate and with a longsword sheathed at his side.
Though shorter than an average human, he has a very commanding, regal presence about him.
He speaks ever so politely in a clear, cool baritone.
“Ah, my young mortals, we meet again.” Vanius glances at the lightning filled sky, a hint of amusement crossing his features.
“A portal. A storm. A prize.” His gaze falls to Zanderallen. “A group of over eager young pups in my way. Quite nostalgic, really.”

"Shall we chat awhile, for old times sake? Or don't you do that anymore?"

Joker continues moving towards where Armalad's disembodied voice came from (fly to AD28 while rising 10 feet above ground)

Armalad never dismissed her greater invisibility and has been greater invisible the whole time she was flying around, inspecting the statue, plucking the sceptre and summoning the celestial tryke.

She completes the rest of her full round summon spell she started last round causing the Celestial Tryke to appear (Standard Action)

She is still greater invisible now and uses a move action to stow the sceptre in her handy haversack. Unless the other party has someone who can see invisibility right now it should appear to them that the sceptre was nowhere to be seen when they entered the chamber as she was holding it while greater invisible at the time and now with it in safely in her handysack presumably they won't know where it went either.

She calls out to the Tryke, "Protect the celestial T-Rex especially from the Fiendish T-Rex"

The Celestial Tryke moves in front of the celestial T-Rex so as to interdict any threat coming at it

Armalad calls out to the guy she doesn't recognize as she wasn't here last time they met him, "What should we talk about? The weather? It is honestly annoying in this place. Who has better the better Dinosaur accessories? We have 2 and you have 1"

Zanderallen unconsciously clenches and tightens a strap on his gauntlet as Vanius comes into focus. He takes a deep breath as the vampire lord greets them, hoping to buy time to continue channeling healing. He nods his head slightly in greeting, "Lord Vanius, meeting through portals seems to be our thing. I must offer apologies for visiting your realm without calling on you. We're been a little pressed for time. I trust you have been well?" While his words are friendly there is no warmth in Zander's tone. His best diplomatic graces keep the ice out though.

Delia minutely shifts her body, targeting onto Vanius. She keeps half an eye on Zanderallen and Stock because if they charge, she releases.

She was out in the Wilds during the Sargrass event, but she's heard stories of what happened in the Float from her friends, old and new. If Vanius casts a spell, she also releases.

Joker moves closer to the statue and farther from the bad guys.

A Celestial Triceratops appears on the field.
An invisible Armalad calls out instructions to it, while tucking away the Scepter.
The dinosaur dutifully takes up position.

Celestial TRex waits and digests.

Stock tells Vanius he's too late, drinks a potion, and eyes the others.
None look familiar.

Zanderallen is willing to banter a bit, as long as he can use the time to keep healing his friends.
The paladin sends another wave of healing out.

However, at the mention of visiting his realm, everyone hears a chuckling over the wind.
The whispers are back, but this time audible to all.
"Oh, this isn't his realm", they remark gleefully.

Vanius' expression finally changes, to one of irritation.
His companions also pause for just a moment.

Stohp is less willing to banter.

"Too easy," declare the Whispers.
The portal vanishes, a development that surprises Vanius and company though the vampire remains merely irritated about it.

Delia keeps a steady aim on Vanius.

"I have also found good use for you, paladin. And now you have found for the me the prize I seek most. As your reward, if your invisible friend by the statue to hands over the Scepter of the Dead, we can all go our happy ways.

His companions are all readied for action.

Bartomus froze when he saw the Vampire. That was not anyone he expected to see and it literally frozen him in his tracks. He felt himself trying to remember the last time they saw the Vamp, but all he could think about was how much he hated this place.

When the Whispers disheveled the Vamp, Bartomus snickered.

[b]"So what deal can we make with you all to keep the Vamp preoccupied and us to leave here with the sceptre?"[b] Bartomus whispers as he bends down to help Zander with the tied up troll lord.

Armalad knows a lot of languages and she thinks she knows an expression in an archaic form of common that is oddly appropriate to the situation.

"Molon Labe" Armalad replies to Vanus, "It's an archaic common expression that roughly translates to come and take it. But before you try to do that what's wrong Vanus? Did you lie to your henchmen that this was your realm? Why not have them read the signpost and learn otherwise?"

Armalad tells Joker, "Take cover behind the statue and use the wand for fog. but be ready to move"

Joker does as Armalad requests flying up and behind the statue and then using his wand of silent image to create the illusion of fog in a up to 17 10 foot cubes

Zanderallen grins just a little at the clarification of where they're at and the pause from the vampire's companions. He hesitates just a moment as the portal disappears. "Well Stohp, it appears we have to modify your statement a little. Whoever runs this particular plane seems to want us to fight to the death. In other cases I would resist such things. But Vanius, it will give me no small pleasure to remove such an evil from the Wold. SHEILDS ATTACK!!" With that Zander gives himself a quick healing boost before charging the fiendish T-Rex.

Like Stohp earlier, Bartomus also tries to recall Vanius.
The taurs recall the Sargrass Event in which a vampire appeared at a gateway on the Trash Level and caught them in a Reverse Gravity spell.
It was also revealed Vanius was behind the kidnapping of Zander's girlfriend, to lure you into Koshe Marr the first time.

Bart asks the Whispers what deal they want this time.
The reply is immediate - Highlight to display spoiler: {"We require a new Dark Lord of Varun. We will help the rest leave if one remains. Forever."}

Armalad challenges Vanius to come and get them.
Joker retreats behind the statue and covers the statue and the arcane archer in a cloud bank, which only Joker and Armlad know is an illusion.

She readies to counterspell.

The Triceratops stands ready, as does the TRex.

The woman with the longsword and hand crossbow (R) swings in behind her allies to get to the fighter's side.

Armalad orders the celestial Tryke to Charge the T-Rex and unload its smite evil on the fiendish dino

The Tryke charges to XYZ 41 - 43 and attacks with its powerful charged gore 32 vs T-Rex's AC and if that hits the T-Rex takes 43 + 14 from smite evil

She encourages Joker to concentrate and he obliges

Armalad seeing the other caster has different metamagic at her disposal decides to do what Armalad is good at which is firing arrows imbued with spells and ideally hitting multiple foes

so she decides she'll take a full attack to fire some arrows prioritizing the T-Rex, then the fighter, then the caster meaning if at anytime the T-Rex dies or disappears from damage her next target is the Fighter which would be against his FF AC then C also FF AC

The Celestial Triceratops charges the T-Rex.
However, just before impact, the summoned creature is stopped short.
Some kind of protection is preventing it from touching the TRex.

Joker keeps concentrating on the illusion.

Armalad fires a series of arrows at the fiendish T-Rex and discovers it has DR, SR, and some resistance to fire and cold.
The first arrow hits, causing a lightning bolt to cascade through F and C
F is affected, but both the TRex and C have SR - DM rolled caster check for Armalad - failed.

The rest of the arrows also hit the TRex, though not critically.
They don't do very much damage.

Stohp moves forward and attempts to disarm the fighter, but is unable to do so.

Stock is caught off balance by Z’s charge and goes running in after the guy.
The TRex chomps on the dwarf as he closes.
Stock takes 36 hp damage.

Zander roars his defiance at the anti-paladin engaging with him.

Delia seeks out the fighter, but Zanderallen has emphatically ended that threat.
DM decision that she goes for the giant meat eating dinosaur instead.
Her arrows hit, but like Armalad she notes the creature's hide is very tough.
But even the DR can only blunt a portion of the ranger's attack

She mutters something extremely uncharitable about Vanius and spellcasters in general, but is out of anyone's earshot. Bartomus retrieves a potion (a Move Action) and drinks it down (a Standard Action).
Calling down another bolt requires a Standard Action as well, and Bart used up his actions drinking the potion

Per Armalad's command, the Tryke charges the Catfolk.
The TRex rips out a chunk of at it as it passes.
Tryke takes 40 hp damage (evil, overcomes DR) in AoO attack.

As the Tryke reaches the Catfolk, it comes to a halt.
Like the TRex, she is also under some protection that prevents the summoned creature from touching her.

Joker keeps concentrating on the illusionary cloud bank.

Armalad sends more arrows at the TRex, with the first one erupting in a lightning bolt that also arcs to Vanius.
Vanius is on the ground. The wind wall is 30' high. Just an FYI as no impact to results.

The TRex avoids the brunt of the lightning bolt.
Vanius does as well.

Stohp ignores the catfolk's command.

Ignoring the goo, Vanius casts a spell.

"Let's try this again," Bartomus snapped his finger at where the cat folk was as a giant dinosaur moved in on the creature.

Zander over-extends himself trying to find an opening on the mirrored lady backflipping away, he nearly falls over when the wave of negative energy from Vanius hits him. Suddenly fighting to keep himself going he hobbles forwards, noticing the same effect on Stock. As much as he wants Vanius he recognizes a better course of action. Digging deep to find the energy he touches Stock, healing him and restoring his vitality. He then points at Vanius, "Vanius, you messed with the wrong followers of Domi." A white nimbus of holy energy jumps from Zanderallen to Stock.

She then figures even though she is no longer greater invisible she should have total concealment by virtue of being in the illusionary fog cloud. Therefore if she fires at the Catfolk caster it should still be against the Catfolk's Flat Footed AC

Armalad is going for manyshot,Rapid shot+1, Flaming Burst, Icy Burst, Thundering Composite Longbow + enchant arrow and will imbue one of her first many-shot arrows with Lightning Bolt and hopefully that lightning bolt will impact C, R and Vanus

Despite the exhaustion Stohp dives out of the way avoiding the lightning completely (31). She'll move to AD/AC 47/48 (I think, right under Stock) and she'll try to grapple R, rope in hand. R had seemed reluctant to fight, so maybe she'll let Stohp overpower her and tie her up. 30 to grapple.

Bartomus singed and gasped as the infernal flames went out. He felt that he had gotten lucky and tried calling another lightning bolt down at the catfolk, but it seemed to just fizzle about her. He decided to move closer to the fray.

Spending a hero point for this fortitude save so 8+18=+26 rolled a 33 - passed -- 10d6 for 32 points damage, good flipping lord that's a nasty spell.

Zanderallen starts moving to dodge the lightning, and in his head his reaction speed is sufficient to make it out of the worse of the bolt. But his exhausted body doesn't keep pace and he takes the full brunt of the blast. He staggers and blinks to clear the white flash from his eyes. Bolstering himself with a quick touch of healing he feels a warmth as the exhaustion clears from his limbs, just a moment too late. He then walks around Stock to Vanius calling out,"This is for Pepper!" as he finds an opening in the vampire lords defense.

She is concealed and so catches her flatfooted.

The second hits for some damage.
The next two arrows also miss.

Stohp avoids the lightning bolt.
She moves forward, between the two fighters and Vanius and tries to grab R.
The Tryke tries to aid.
While the taur does succeed in touching the actual woman, rather than an image, the woman slips away.

Without another word she pivots and drives her longsword through the catfolk's heart.
Both R and the catfolk disappear.

"NO!" cries Vanius, enraged.

The vampire moves, stepping away from Zanderallen and toward Stock.
With a quick spell he slaps his palm onto Stock's stomach.
His wounds heal, using Stock's life force.
Stock takes 60 hp damage.

Joker continues concentrating on the illusion.

The Tryke swings around the combatants.
It is unable to touch Vanius and waits to aid another.

Armalad casts a spell, summoning more aid.

Bart closes and sends a lightning bolt at Vanius.
The wind wall has no impact, but the druid is unable to overcome the vampire's spell resistance.

One to go. Stohp grabs at Vanius, missing.
She grabs at him again.
And this time, the minotaur latches on.
With a quick tug, the startled vampire is drawn into her clutches.

Stock and Zanderallen hammer and slice.
Grappled by Stohp, Vanius loses some dexterity and both the dwarf and the paladin score another hit when they would have missed otherwise.
It takes every blow, but with Zanderallen's final strike, Vanius falls.

As soon as he falls, the body turns to dust and blows away.

Bartomus moved towards his left and tried to get in a position where he was closer to Delia and remained relatively close to the other Shields that had defeated the Vampire. As he moved, he began the chanting to call forth the energy needed to extend a healing power.

Moving to AF 42/43 and then casting Cure Critical Wounds, Mass - individuals within 30' (if I did the move right that should be Z, Stohp, Stock, Dalia, and Bart. Sorry A. unless you can move within the area. Can offer a potion though.

As his final blow lands Zander is almost thrown off balance by the lack of resistance as Vanius turns to dust. Seeing his foe gone fills him with a rush of emotion. Vanius had made him feel so little and powerless all those years ago, which could have been forgiven but the vampire couldn't leave well enough alone. And now he was gone, "It is finished" Zander whispers as he watches the dust blow away.

His attention is immediately grabbed by the snapping of ropes as he pivots to watch Drall stand up. But he notes the previous aggression and bloodlust don't seem to be dominant at the moment, so he takes the opportunity to try and avoid more bloodshed. "I am Zanderallen, servant of Domi, member of the Silver Shields, and tasked by Gargul to bring you from this place. Will you come with us?"

The summoning of the lantern archon is rather anticlimatic as Vanus was already slain.

Armalad tells Joker, "You can stop concentrating on the fog cloud."

"Let's fly back to the others and take the archon with us, maybe he can cast some spells that can make us heartier for a bit"

Armalad asks, "When the mirror image lady agreed to the terms of the voices did the portal come back or are we kind of potentially stuck here as I thought someone said Gargul's trinket to bring us back to him won't work here."

Armalad thanks Bartomus for the potion and quaffs it then returns her barrel from the haversack to normal size and tells Joker to get in, use the decanter of endless water and allow the fast healing to close his damage up from the environment mostly.

The archon goes poof and Joker heals 2 more hp from his fast healing from being in the water barrel which Armalad plans to shrink again when her familiar is done

Armalad says to the team and Drall, "Drall's offer seems fair to me. Our mission was for him and him alone well and the scepter but that has been taken care of. The only question is how do we get out of this place seeing as how the portal vanished after Vanus and company got here? Also is there the possibility of potentially camping here before we leave or do we think we can make it to the tavern without too much trouble? I pretty much cast the most spells I've ever cast in those last 2 battles and while I have a few spells up my sleeve still a lot of my more powerful magic is tapped out at the moment"

"I can change into something huge that can fly - maybe an albatross? We put everything in the bag of holding and I could carry Stock for sure. Maybe also Delia?" Bartomus suggested.

Hawky and Delia have an awkward shuffle where he tries to land on her shoulder, but almost knocks her over instead. He sulkily perches on the nearest Taur's shoulder instead, having been banished from hers.
"Hawky could fly me up while he's still enlarged and we could drop a rope. He's pretty buffed up right now, so he might be able to ferry more of us up. Definitely not Bart or Stohp though, sorry. Or uh, Drall since he's coming." She eyes the heavily armored and heavily built Zanderallen and Stock, wondering if Animal Growth magic is powerful enough to allow Hawky to carry them.

She looks between Zander and Stock, "I can go up first, but who wants to try it next?"

This is a depressing thought, until all the Shields note their capabilities.

Bart can change to a creature big enough to also bear Stock.
And Stock has two potions of Fly, covering Drall and Stohp

Once the group has figured that out, the Voices don't bother answering Stock.

The loot from Vanius is gathered up, with some tripping over the body of the fighter who accompanied him.....

"Sure thing on the head band! Welcome to the club!" Bartomus said with a wink and as he tapped his. Then he looked at the dwarf, "Let's fly, Stock."

The Taur shook out his limbs and transformed into a large eagle in a type that he had seen fly about the plains and even about the great lake. With a shimmy and then a screech in delight, he turned an a golden eye on Stock and winked. When he realized Stock was flying with the aid of a potion, he shifted back and then pushed hard into the sky. A few full flaps, he followed up after the others. He waited till everyone was through before he turned and flew through.

By various devices, The Shields get themselves and Grantham Drall flying for the shimmering gateway.

Stock and several others keep a close eye on Drall, but he does nothing untoward.

The party flies up through the gateway.
There is an odd pulling sensation and then a change of gravity.
The party is ejected sideways into a tavern room.

Once everybody comes to a halt and gets their bearings, the room seems familiar.

The main tavern is cozy. There's a fire to warm the bones. One end of the room holds a large window, where one can look out into the lavender twilight of the land. Past the bar, at the opposite end, are two large, dwarven statues. Both statues carry swords. The left statue sword hilt is engraved with the words "Giggling Ghost", the right statue sword hilt is engraved with "Wold Catacombs".

The tavern hall is empty but for a male elf behind the bar and a female elf regarding you with very little curiosity.

"Sorry for the abrupt arrival, but we could use some good food and drink. I am hoping, almost praying, that you have a wonderful stash of a very cold, very sweet, honey mead. Plus, something good, full of flavor and delight to eat."

Delia asks about maybe getting some food.
Bartomus asks the bartender the same.
The elf passes over a tankard of sweet, cold mead.
"A dinner pie, perhaps?" he offers to the taur with a completely straight face.

Stock asks if they've been recognized.
The bartender nods.
"You were here earlier with the halfling, Brennan Proudfoot."

He nods toward Drall.
"This is a place of refuge. We know he will not do harm."

The reticent fiendish troll does at least sit down.
At last he lifts a hand, beckoning the elven waitress.
She takes an order and returns in short order with a mug.

Stohp interrogates the bartender about Gargul.
"He holds no sway here," the elf replies.

Zanderallen is at first overcome by the reaching a familiar place but eventually settles down to a meal. "Once we eat we should be able to step right outside and activate the item to return to Gargul. Maybe the spirits of whatever pocket realm we entered were happy to send us on our way after we killed Vanius. It still seems so strange that he's gone. He's been a specter in the back of my mind ever since we met him just down the road so many years ago."

Stock steps outside the Inn and finds it and he are situated on a bluff overlooking a wide swamp of water, fern and moss covered trees. A single full moon shines brightly in a night sky. The moon and its reflection light up the area in a soft glow. The howl of some animal drifts over the water below.

The dwarf is able to find a stone or two of interest near the inn's foundation.

He joins the rest of the Shields inside, where the party enjoys the food, wine, and peace and discuss next steps.

Stock asks Drall about the Scepter.
Some in the group may recall that Gargul sent the party to retrieve Drall.
He never said anything about wanting the Scepter.

Drall answers tiredly.
"The Scepter grants the user the ability to provide themself or one other escape from any condition or circumstance. Poverty, imprisonment, death, disease, age, infirmity, a curse. Anything. That vampire could have escaped Koshe Marr, or his undeath. The bartender also shakes his head.

However, the Shields recall the last time the dwarves pretty much acted like a teleport spell.

Armalad pays for the meal, earning a respectful nod from the bartender.

The Shields, with Drall in tow, step into the arms of the Giggling Ghost dwarf.

No one feels anything.
One step, into the arms of the dwarf statue.
Next step, there is a flash of green and one is emerging from one of the Wold famous magical fireplaces within the Giggling Ghost.

As Armalad suspected, preparations for the Yuletide celebration, beginning a week from now! <-----shameless plug), are well under way.
Half of the Ghost has been cordoned off and is undergoing a good cleaning.
Space for the tree has been readied.
And a steady parade of delivery persons carries in boxes and supplies of all shapes and sizes.

As the Shields get accusomted to the sight, a familiar voice booms out,
"Ladies and Gentlemen! The Silver Shields!" Happy bellows enthusiastically, before trailing off, "and, uh, guest."

The Ghost erupts in cheers and toasts to the famed adventurers.

"Aw, Happy, it's always a delight to come here and be greeted by a great host such as yourself," Bartomus responded with deep sincerity. "This here is Drall. We all have an appointment to make, but I bet we could have a bit of pastry if you have them."

Right. This is the place that touches all planes and Stohp was hoping would mean the end of the quest. Still there's a chance this won't be that easy, so she'll again inquire if they can contact Gargul here, walk out the door to their own homes, etc., or if the way they arrived precludes them from leaving or contacting anyone not already here. She rather expects the latter.

Zanderallen has a moment as they're travelling to think about what people would think about Drall walking the streets with them. Hopefully flanked by two taurs he won't stick out that much. Plus walking in the middle of the Silver Shields should stop any concerns.

Stohp braces herself for possible disappointment.
Unfortunately for the pessimistic taur, there isn't any.

The Shields exit a cheering Giggling Ghost, after helping themselves to whatever pastries and drinks they wish (more than enough is offered by staff and customers alike).

They move with ease to Shield HQ and get themselves into a controlled environment with no issues.

Zanderallen breaks the rod.

Without any warning at all, the Shields again find themselves on a wide but shallow deck jutting out into a small pond. Glades and woods border the forest. A small dirt trail leads back from the deck to a small wooden cabin, where a tendril of smoke lazily rises from the lone chimney. It feels like early morning, just after dawn. A mist rises above the pond. Crickets chirp and birds call.

Reclining in a wooden Adirondack chair is a handsome older gentleman.
He has a fishing pole in left hand, which flicks the pole occasionally.
In his right is a champagne glass filled with an orange bubbly liquid.

Gargul rises and faces the Shields.
The god of death is beaming from ear to ear.
"Well done, Silver Shields. Very well done indeed."

In the fiendish troll's place stands a male elf, decked out in mithril plate with the High Woldian symbol of Gargul etched in its chestplate in gold. A greatsword is strapped to his back.
His piercing green eyes blink several times, as if emerging from a fog.
His eyes clear. He takes in the scene.
And he collapses to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably.

Gargul watches silently, but a brief flash of anguish crosses his features before he resumes his placid norm.

Bartomus had made a deep bow towards Gargul and then glanced over to see what Drall was doing. He gasped when he saw the knightly elf in armor that would make Zander envious. When the elf fell to his knees sobbing, Bartomus raised himself up and glanced at Gargul.

He kept looking from the troll turned knightly elf to Gargul and then back at the elf. He did this a few times and tried to figure out what was actually going on.

Zanderallen is almost getting use to this plane shifting. Taking a moment to bask in the tranquility of the place. He bows in respect to Gargul in response to the praise before noticing the troll in their midst is no more. He notes the elf's garb and Gargul's pain and unable to stand and do nothing he makes an assumption and providing a supporting hand on the elf's shoulder says, "Welcome back, friend."

Delia stands by silently after a respectful nod to Gargul, letting the elf take as long as he needs. She reflects on Gargul's reputation and the unease she tends to feel about him in contrast to the care he's revealed to them and the generous second chances he actually gives.

After a few more moments, elf-Drall composes himself, reaches up, and places his hand over Zanderallen's own.
Rising to his feet, he clasps the paladin in a fierce hug.
"Thank you," he whispers into the man's ear.

Letting go, Drall faces Gargul.
The expression on his face and the steel in his eyes are pretty clear indicators of what he's about to ask.

The old man shakes his head.
"No, my Grim. You have earned your rest. Go and take it."

Drall hesitates a brief moment before accepting with a bow of his head.
The elf dissipates and is gone.

Gargul turns back toward the Shields.
"A soul for a soul, Silver Shields. Your debt is fulfilled."

He sits back down in his adirondack, and casts out a line.
"Oh, I also left a pile of diamonds on your dining room table. For your preparation for your next chapter. I will also give you a few minutes more here, should you have any further questions?"

Zander returns Drall's hug with equal ferocity. He turns his head to hide wiping his eyes. His thoughts wander to Domi as Drall disappears into the Lands of Rest, silently praying someday he may earn that same praise from his patron. He then bows to Gargul, "Thank you Lord Gargul. You have done my heart good to be part of returning Drall to where he's supposed to be." He listens with interest if Gargul chooses to share Drall's story.

"We didn't get our Nemesis, bit we have denied him the scepter, we think."

Some unknown tension releases in Delia's chest. Somehow, doing Gargul a favor made it easier to feel she deserved this second chance. And she knew she wouldn't waste it, even if it only lasted until Karkasan was permanently put down, she would make good on his generosity.

At last, he decides to offer this,
"As I had told you, Koshe Marr is a land of great evil and temptation. Most find themselves being tempted beyond their ability to withstand. Grantham Drall was one such. He was a Grim, one of my best. He entered Koshe Marr....and was lost."

"The powers there, knowing my affinity for him, took great pleasure in subverting his mind."

"This is all I wish to say on the matter."


There is silence.

Bart adds, ""We didn't get our Nemesis, bit we have denied him the scepter, we think."

Gargul responds, "Yet. With the Scepter, you have the means."

Armalad responds to Gargul's observation, "It is funny you mention that. I was speculating over dinner that if we were to word our request to the sceptre correctly we could be rid of Karkassan once and for all. Do you know any pitfalls concerning the use of the sceptre? Is it literal in the interpretation of wording of requests or do you get what you ask for but it includes an unexpected negative unless you word the request in such a way to prevent it like the mythical monkey paw?"

"We were told that the scepter honors the spirit of the request, not just the letter, so no monkey paws. Perhaps we ourselves can use it to extract the evil of the woods and destroy it safely, denying the lizard folk their scheme and ending the danger of the woods. It'll take some thinking."

"I wonder," Bartomus started to say and then paused. He glanced at Gargul and then to where Drall had been and vanished from.

"I wonder if there might be a way to remove that evil. We know that some aspects of the wood were bound and created for long forgotten purposes. Could the evil be the same? Could it be living it's own tormented reality like Drall?"

Zander queries Gargul, "I know you are not fond of those who would cheat death. Karkasan has avoided answering your judgement for a very long time. Do you know if the scepter has the power to end him or merely make him vulnerable?"

Delia waits to see if Gargul will/can answer their questions. It would be great if they could use to scepter to completely end Karkasan, but things never seemed to be that easy. Still, she was curious.
