FLAME!

Segue -- ADM Adam
Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 1:57:36 PM

Skirting the Western wall, the party circles to the North and stops some 90-feet in front of the Northern wall. Tactics are discussed and spells are shared. Bralin, Tishe, Gilan and Peerimus note the dragon in the skies to the North and move roughly 400-feet to the tree-line. Their plan is simple: intercept the Red before it reaches Oshirr House, and ground it.

Podo relays the conversation between himself and Alemi to Kendry and Airin. Together, the three halflings decide the North wall must have a reserve defence. Kendry links arms with Podo, and together they airwalk over the North wall. Airin levitates and follows them. They quickly set about instructing the students to man the five catapults and prepare tanglefoot bags, acid flasks and thunderstones (along with regular boulders). Once ready, Airin steps back over the wall with plans of moving into the field and hiding. She is joined by the wolf, Ciaran.

500-feet away by the tree-line, Peerimus and Tishe conjure eight dire bats out of the Ether. Gilan hides and an invisible Bralin rises high into the air.

The army of fey-kobolds to the South advances, but there is still time . . .

Round 1: The Veil Drops! -- ADM Adam
Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 2:23:05 PM

High above the ground, Bralin swivels in mid-air and eyes the dragon as it banks to the West. Turning further still, he notes the fey-kobold army is still some 30-seconds away from the Southern wall. Grim as it may be, he grunts in approval of the situation and decides on a flanking position. Heading South, he makes to put some distance between himself and the druids. However, for reasons unknown to him, he stops. Something is wrong. Very wrong.

Airin descends the North wall and checks the position of the dragon. She frowns in concentration. Something seems ... odd.

Ciarin whines.

Kendry surveys the progress of the catapults and rises over the armory. Suddenly, he sees it.

Podo prepares for battle and stretches in anticipation. Perched next to him, Erwen shrieks and launches herself into the air.

Peerimus mentally runs through the complex process of melding his own flesh into that of a dire bat. For a moment, he hears something whisper in his mind. Was it ... Mother?

Gilan hears it too, but louder. Was it an echo? A warning?

What Tishe hears in her mind is painfully loud and clear. "IT'S AN ILLUSION!" Pierces her thoughts.

Glancing back at the dragon, Bralin watches as its colour fades from a reddish, metallic sheen to a dull feathery brown. Shaking his head in disbelief he checks back to the South ... and his beard very nearly drops.

Oshirr House has suddenly been surrounded by an army of not only fey-kobolds, but fey-orcs and fey-ogres too! Where the smaller fey-kobold army had been moments earlier there is now only dust.

Impossibly, the hideous red dragon flickers into view directly above the compound. It roars, and the intense explosion of heat and roiling flames that follows casts severe shadows across the Valley of the Dawn.

Moments later, a gargantuan feathery form lands near the druids by the tree-line. Gently, the bird of prey allows a large crocodile held in its beak to waddle to the ground. Tishe instantly recognises Snout (who is very happy to see her). A large burlap sack is strapped to the reptile's back.

In awe, the druids feel Her presence, more than they recognise Her. This Roc is Maab: Mother of the Wold. Her large head jerks sideways and She eyes them without blinking. In their minds they hear Her even voice. "There is no time to waste. Gargul and Flame must be stopped!" She glances from the druids to the invisible dwarf, and touches Her wings to the ground invitingly. "I will ensure these dire bats keep pace with us. Now all of you - get on!"

Podo ducks behind the stone stairs beside him as the heat from the dragon's breath attack washes over the courtyard. He tries to ignore the screams of the burning students.

Similarly, battle cries and screams of fear are heard in all directions.

Kendry stares in horror at the draconic beast materialised before him. In his peripheral he realises fey-kobolds and fey-orcs are breaching the walls, and yet ... he can't seem to tear his eyes away from the dragon. As its wings buffet the air downwards, he realises why. It has a rider - Gargul!

Tishe' (AC 23 HP 56/56)
Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 8:32:31 PM

"ITS AN ILLUSION!"
The words echo in her mind and her ears as Tishe screams the warning only she can hear.

It is too late. The hideous Red Dragon appears over the castle hundreds of feet away....

But then, Mother is here. Tishe stops thinking about anything.
Maab says "Get on", and Tishe gets on. She barely even knows she's doing it.

Bralin [AC 29, 96/96 hp, barkskin, bulls str, airwalk, freedom of movement, invisible)
Tuesday May 23rd, 2006 8:38:26 PM

Axe in hand, Bralin watches the explosion of flame and the change in the army with lip pressed together and a cold stare. He has been foolish. The dwarf is as upset with himself for being deceived as he is with the deceiver.

Tishe screams, and Bralin sees the gigantic bird settle. Tishe climbs on and the bird expects him to do the same. The warrior looks back to the castle. The battle will be over before he will get there on foot.

Racing through the air, the black bearded warrior slides onto the creature's back.
"I am here," he announces.

Peerimus
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 8:41:59 AM

The druid hears the whisper, but his mind is more strongly distracted by what he thinks are the events to come. Peerimus (Bat) cocks a head to the other bats about him, and with several subsonic squeels, conveys what they must do. Mother then arrives.

Peerimus climbs onto Mother's Back and since he is now a bat himself, he calls to the other Bats to make best speed to the northern wall and to the dragon.

Oh, my! What to do.... Podo thinks to himself.

Waiting until the Dragon Flame passes by for another strafing run on the Oshirr house, Podo will run to the students to see if he can move any of them to a stone alcove of saftey.

Kendry
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 12:04:06 PM

[OOC Clarification: Since a dragon's cone breath weapon is on the order of 50 to 70 feet long, and Flame just breathed on people in the courtyard, and since Kendry is 90 feet above the armory, wouldn't he actually be slightly above the dragon, rather than beneath?]

He sings boldly (inspire courage)...
Though Gargul ride the dragon
And dragon breathe out flame
Ne'er shall we weaken
Opponents shall be shamed
...while climbing higher.

========
REMEMBER, EVERYONE: One of the first spells Kendry cast before the group broke up was:
Good Hope [+2 morale bonus on saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls - 90 rounds]
So add +2 to attacks, +2 to damage, +2 to skill checks, +2 to ability checks, AND +2 to all saving throws.

Airin
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 1:10:45 PM

Airin stares in horror when the veil falls. Her druid friends are way out there on the field, and Gargul himself is riding this demonic though gorgeous red dragon.
What can she, a little halfling and her equally little friends do against such a creature?!?

"Let's try something they may least expect..." Airin thinks

Knowing her levitation will only allow her to move upwards Airin quickly rises above the walls untill once again she is standing on the parrapets.

There she moves towards the Eastern tower on the Northern wall.

Round 2: The Fallen. -- ADM Adam
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 1:22:32 PM

Maab scoops the crocodile up in Her beak as She waits for Gilan and Peerimus to complete their spells. They soon join Tishe and Bralin on Her broad avian shoulders and tightly cling to Her feathers. Her massive form then tenses and, in one powerful motion, the Mother of the Wold launches them high into the sky. Her wings thunder against the wind and they rise rapidly. Reaching an apex, they seem to hover in mid-air for a moment ...

... from this vantage point, Bralin, Gilan, Peerimus, and Tishe have a clear view of Oshirr House far below them. They estimate the enemy army to be more than one-thousand strong. However, they have little time to contemplate what this may mean for the coming battle, as - without warning - Maab barrel-rolls into a dive and hurtles towards the castle with frightening speed. White-knuckled, they hang on for dear life.

Faster and faster the Northern wall rushes up to meet them. At the very last second, Maab drops Her body into a twist and flings Her passengers clear. They plummet towards the ground, ... before softly slowing and floating the final twenty-feet.

Maab continues on towards the dragon at break-neck speed. Her talons extend and She shrieks. In retaliation, the dragon buffets the air with its wings and roars. Somehow the Red manages to snap its jaws at the feathery blur and make contact. The resulting gash sprays Maab's blood out over the courtyard - splattering Podo. Unphased, She continues her attack.

. . .

Floating above the armory, Kendry watches as Gargul and the red dragon turn their attention to the Eastern wall and fly towards him. Suddenly, a shadow dominates the area, claws flash, and Gargul is torn from His seat atop the red dragon. The halfling watches in awe as the God of Death and Life is carried off by the largest roc he has ever heard tale of. A breath later and his thoughts are snapped back to attention by the hissing red dragon that is rushing up towards him.

Meanwhile, Airin levitates back over the North wall and sprints for the North-Eastern tower. Erwen joins her.

Still on the other side of the wall, Ciaran howls for his brother's attention.

Podo wipes Maab's blood from his eyes and watches as the dragon gets dangerously close to his hovering cousin. The screams of dying students vie for his attention.

Peerimus collects his bearings amongst the chaos and notes his and Tishe's dire bat conjurations are where Maab promised they would be.

Bralin halts his feather fall and steps onto thin air some ten-feet above the wall. Below him, the rest of the group lands lightly and prepares for battle.

All around them, the students of Oshirr House panic. Only a handful who can hear Kendry's inspiring words stand ready at their (catapult) posts.

OOC: Kelly
Wednesday May 24th, 2006 11:14:56 PM

OOC: This is great. Thanks Adam and everyone. I am still swamped, so will continue to just read for now.

{ OOC: Adam to Kelly: I think I am about to be replaced by another ADM, as I have been (almost) officially assigned permanent DM status over in Game 8 (Crimson Shields). Anyhoo, I just wanted to say: I've had a blast ADM'ing here! Thanks to everyone! :-) }

[Kim to Adam & Kelly: NO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O! Not another ADM change! We're changing too many horses in midstream! But thank you, big time, Adam, for your short and wonderful stint. Do you think you can at least finish out this week? Kelly - welcome back from Italia. What are the chances you could pick up here in the near future? I know you're swamped, too. I appreciate all who have stepped in, but - this is too critical a point for this game. ::sigh::]

{ OOC: Adam to Kim: It really depends on when Jerry and the powers that be start me on Game 8 (I just don't have time to DM two games - sorry). In the meantime, it's business as usual here. All going well, there'll be a smooth transition from myself back to Kelly. However, I thought it important to flag the possibility. As an aside, I've mentioned to Jerry that I would be happy to continue the up-keep of my battle map for whoever stepped in (including Kelly, of course! ;-) ). }

Airin
Thursday May 25th, 2006 11:59:34 AM

"STAY TOGETHER FRIENDS!!!" Airin shouts to her friends close to her and hopes to keep the students ready and willing to bravely fight.

She still has an Entangle spell ready to help...

Up on the parapets she quickly moves to the Eastern Wall and casts the Spell on the menacing enemy troops below. Slowing their movement...

ooc: downloading these maps is killing my terribly slow internet connection at home :-/ But they are more than worth the waiting!!!

{ OOC: Adam to Inge: Oh! Sorry Inge! I'll provide a smaller / compressed version for you next round - promise! Out of interest, what type of connection do you have? And, how long (roughly) are they taking to download? }

Kendry  d20+12=24 d20+14=33 d20+14=23 d20+7=24 d20+10=25
Thursday May 25th, 2006 12:12:55 PM

Astonishing! The roc ferries his friends and captures Gargul from off the back of the dragon. Well, that helps even the odds! As Flame flies up toward him, though, it is just what he hoped for and prepared for. He takes a few quick steps upwards, and leaps [Jump: 24] on to the red dragon's neck, just behind the head. The silken rope with several loops along its length he swings over his head, so that it arcs up, and the end, weighted with the tanglefoot bag firmly affixed near the end, whomps in to the neck of the dragon [Touch attack 33]. It splats, and the alchemical glue quickly bonds, affixing the rope to its neck. Kendry's left forearm is through one of the loops several feet from the opposite end of the rope. Ouch! A dragon's neck has pointy ridges.

From his belt he rips a pouch which contains a single object, and he throws this hard against the skull of the dragon (or just behind the skull, if he does not have a direct shot) [ranged touch attack 18 (not 23) - should be good enough against touch AC of 8 or 9]. A thunderstone explodes, possibly getting the dragon's attention, if not deafening it (Fortitude Save DC 15 or deaf for 1 hour). [Kendry himself makes a Fort save of 24.]

Having to focus on mounting and riding a dragon [Ride: 25], Kendry foregoes the singing for the moment. However, the inspire courage effects last for this plus the following four rounds. "Woo-hoo!" he calls out following the explosion.

As she wathces Kendry get on top of Flame Airin gasps and whispers "For the love of nature if this works I will ... him" but the entire content of her words get lost in the noise of battle. (gna gna gna)

As she can now probably see the belly of Flame, Airin quickly sneaks into position and fires two bolts...

Bolt 1 hits AC29 - 7Hp + 9Hp sneak attack
Bolt 2: NATURAL 1... I just hope I did not shoot Kendry now... - 2Hp + 5Hp

As Airin docks into hiding besides the Eastern Tower she sees a flash of times now seemingly ages ago...

Standing in front of the mirror of truth she claimed to be a lover. As a reward she is now able to transfer hitpoints from her to Kendry... 1Hp from Airin become 2Hp for Kendry. But of course then Airin's Hp's drop. Soooo... our friend the dragon rider (ok I'm envious now) is not dead anytime soon!!

Tuesday May 30th, 2006 10:12:39 PM

Maab flies swiftly off to the Southwest, Gargul clutched tightly in the Roc's talons. He screams and curses, and suddenly goes quiet. Those who watch see a slight tightening of the Roc's talons, and Gargul goes limp. Still she flies towards her home.

Kendry takes advantage of the confusion surrounding the snatching of Gargul, and he takes his place on the back of the dragon. Using his tanglefoot bag, he is able to secure a firm hold to the wyrm's back. Throwing down a thunderstone does indeed get the attention of Flame!

Peerimus helps in the attack upon the dragon, and closes in bat form on the beast. He is able to find a weak spot, and bites deeply into the belly of the dragon. Three of the bats (1, 2, 5) follow him in, two of which are also successful in their attacks

Airin cheers Kendry on, ready to help him if needed. Meanwhile, she casts entangle on the monsters threatening the East side of the fortress. Most are held securely, though a few still move slowly toward the gates.

Gilan stands in courtyard and increases the sizes of 4 bats, who then fly off towards the dragon.

Podo, who recently became very familiar with the use of catapults directs them to fire on the East side. Stones rain down upon the fey-ogre, fey-orcs and fey-kobolds. Many of the smaller monsters are crushed, yet the fey-ogre who moves slowly towards the gate is wounded.

Bralin activates his tattoo and moves south 20 feet.

Tishe decides that more flying creatures would be useful, and summons 3 dire bats.

Flame, the red dragon screams in rage as his rider is snatched by the Roc. His rage only increases when the place of his master is taken by a small creature who throws exploding rocks down upon his head. Then silence! How can such a small creature affect him? (Flame rolled a natural 1)

Bats attack, and the sky is getting too crowded. Time to rid himself of the small creature on his back and knock the bats from the sky. The small man is in a difficult place to reach, so instead the dragon rolls hoping the creature falls to his death. During the roll, he reaches out and bites at one of the bats. (random choice of bats, 1d4 roll 4=Peerimus) His bite hits Peerimus hard (25 HP damage). He rolls and strikes the creatures around him with his wings. (Bat 1 = 21 dam, Bat 2 = 18 dam, Bat 5 = 27 dam, Peerimus = 19 dam).

His rage increases when he realizes that the small man who deafened him is tied to his back.

The monsters pound upon the gates, and the students follow directions given by Alemi and Domi to hold them back.

OOC: Trying to get it all straight in my mind. Please let me know if I left anything out. Dang, Flame rolled a 1.

Kendry enjoys the wild ride (Ride: 26, plus 4 (?) from looped/glued rope to stay on). He pulls out a scroll and reads it [Concentration 19; Use Magic Device: 37 (nat 20)] - the second-level wizard spell, touch of idiocy [a mind-affecting enchantment of compulsion]. He touches the dragon [melee touch attack: 26] - he's touching it all over! - and perhaps affects the dragon's mental faculties. [No save against the spell, but spell resistance may apply. Lose 5 points of intelligence; 6 points of wisdom; 5 points of charisma.]

He really has no further clue as to what is happening at the moment to Gargul and Maab, to the students, to the fey monsters, or to his friends. The little halfling from Crescent Valley only knows that he rides the neck of the legendary Flame, and there are big bats flying about. No - there is one more thing he knows: everything he can do to save the students, to save his friends and companions, and to save Oshirr House -- he will do. He just hopes this spell works. He pulls forth a feather and starts to coil silk rope about it - tightly at first at the thick end, then more loosely.

Remember, friends: The effects of the Good Hope spell continue: +2 attack, +2 damage, +2 skills checks, +2 saves, +2 ability checks. And for the students & teachers with whom we are allied, the inspire courage effect continues for this & 3 more rounds: +2 attack, +2 damage, +2 saves versus charm, +2 saves vs fear.

Peerimus Question
Wednesday May 31st, 2006 1:47:53 PM

I am unsure which Bats are grown. Before Tishe and Gilans spells
Dire Bat 1 (9-30HP) Bat 2 (12-30HP) Bat 3 (30-30HP) Bat 5 (3-30HP)
Growth Bats Bat 4 (38-38HP) Bat 7 (38-38HP) Bat 8 (38-38HP)

Gilan shows getting 4 bats and Tishe summoned an additional 3

could we have made this more complex? :)

I think then Gilan would have to grow the three Tishe just summoned. Peerimus went in with all 8 bats immediately, not waiting for the growth so some are big and some are not. Gilan could not reach the bats already at teh dragon, so he would target the bats summoend by Tishe then. I will go with that if there are no objections on my post.

OOC: I'm not sure which bats are grown either. I assumed that you were sending the large bats after the dragon, and that the small ones were waiting around to get big. I don't know though, you guys tell me.

Kendry attempts to cast a spell upon Flame as they roll through the air. As Flame spins in the air, Kendry comes down hard on the dragon's spikes (5 hp damage). Concentrating, he is able to cast a spell by touching the dragon he sits upon. (I rolled spell resistance for you). The spell works, and the dragon seems a bit confused. Yet the spell that would tend to make a person an idiot has really just made Flame angry.

Tishe also attempts to cast a spell on the dragon, calling Lightning down from the sky. The lightning hits him full on, and crackles against his skin.

The bats continue the attack, and the dragon is becoming increasingly frustrated. He is deaf, and now he cannot think as clearly as he should.

Flame has had enough, he will not die at the hands of inferior creatures. He beats hard with his wings, quickly speeding up to 150, leaving the bats behind.

OOC: Okay, this landing and stabilizing oneself on the perfect part of the dragon is a byproduct of DM change in mid-stream. I will assume it is as Kim says. However, Flame has no plan to die today.

Flame is in full retreat, and nobody can keep up with him, save the small halfling tied to his back. Flame is racing towards the East.

Gilan in Manticore form is flying towards the East gate. Peerimus and the bats are left behind as he was following Flame during flight.

Podo is directing the catapults, which are cranking up to deliver another volley.

Flame's teeth tear into the druid, but Fathers protection and strength help to lessen the sting, and so again when one of the great wings slams into him. Then with the tremeendous power at his disposal, Flame soars far beyond Peerimus and the other Bats. Now that is a problem, for he well may return after the bats have vanished

Peerimus calls out to all the bats in the high pitched sonic squeel of thier language, "To me! To me! Attack with me!" and turns on his right and dives in on the the fey army at the gates to the east.

The fight for dominion in the air is over for now. Now it the time to demonstrate why air superiority is a desired goal. With high echoing cries 4 Dire Bats and 7 Huge Dire Bats tear into the opposing army.

Round 5 - DM Kelly
Friday June 2nd, 2006 12:17:01 AM

Flame is quickly disappearing into the Eastern sky, a small form rides near his head.

OOC: Kim, no action post from you. I'll keep you in limbo until the morning, everyone else:

Gilan in Manticore form flies over the East gate. With a flick of his tail, spikes fly through the air and imbed into the fey-orge. The Manticore lands, and as he does so he realizes that the spiked ogre has fallen to his knees. Without a sound, he collapses and a cloud of dust rises from is motionless body.

Peerimus and the bats converge from the air, striking the fey-orcs and kobolds from above. The attack is effective, and only 5 monsters remain standing. Students from above rain stones down from above, and soon only 2 monsters are left at the gate. The larger horde, upon seeing Flame flee has done likewise.

Tishe finishes an orc who made the wall, who crumples in a heap. The students quickly throw the body over the wall.

Podo, realizing that Peerimus and the bats are within catapult range on the East decides only to fire upon the Western monsters. Rocks again rain down, and it is upon monsters who are already fleeing. The not only saw Flame flee to the East, but the Roc recently flew over them carrying Gargul in its talons.

Bralin also hope to make a difference, yet can see that those he seeks to fight are in retreat to the West. Another battle missed. Perhaps those boots of speed he saw in the Catacombs would be just the thing.

Airin (who is above the Eastern wall) defends the wall, but quickly realizes that the monsters have once again lost.

Garguls second attempt in less than two days has failed. A great cheer comes up from the students.

OOC: Who has the feystone?

Kendry - material added by Kelly  d20+10=27 d20+13=33 d100=28 d20+6=25 d20+13=24
Friday June 2nd, 2006 12:45:46 AM

[Alemi has the fey stone.]

With the silk rope wrapped & many- knotted feather on one end of the silk rope - the end of the feather pokes out the end of the wrap, Kendry leaves a fair amount of slack (long enough to be able to reach from where he is to a few feet beyond the end of Flame's nose), then ties off the feather-tied rope in one of the spare loops of the tanglefooted rope [Use rope: 25].

Added by Kelly - What you state above is a full round action, the rest of the post you can do next round. I quote "Throwing a grappling hook is a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity. Tying a knot, tying a special knot, or tying a rope around yourself one-handed is a full-round action that provokes an attack of opportunity."

I will deal with both rounds worth of actions at the same time, when I post tonight.

Kendry holds the rope wrapped around the feather. He knows that the first wrapped silk rope will likely break, but he counts on the more loosely wrapped and overlapping rope to hold once the transformation takes place. Then, holding firmly with his right hand, he drops the arrow down where the last couple of bony plates meet in front of him. The feather token transforms into an anchor. Getting as good a grasp on the anchor as he can, Kendry gets a feeling for its weight.

Growing slightly accustomed to the rhythm of the dragon's flight, Kendry times his throw to match that rhythm. He aims and throws the anchor so that it goes toward the dragon's right eye.

[Ride check 27. Attack roll 33-4=29 (nat 20, forgot to subtract 4 due to non-proficiency adjustment with an anchor) - threat, if AC 24 hits, then it's a critical hit with the anchor. I have no idea what damage an anchor does, but he was aiming for the eye.]

Peerimus and the bats clean up those who are still near the gates, while the rest of the monsters flee to the woods.

Podo checks the perimeter, counting the monsters. He too can see that they lost heart when both Gargul was taken and Flame left.

Airin worries about Kendry, and Flame is quickly disappearing into the horizon.

Gilan calls upon his companions to see how they fare, and can see that all are fine except Kendry, who is gone.

Alemi calls out clearly from the top of the wall.

"Gather all. The creator has heard our plea. The Jericho will help us use the feystone to defeat Gargul and the monsters. His attacks upon us will finally come to an end."

Then a great sound is heard. The flapping of hundreds of wings, and soon the walls of the Oshirr House become the perch of countless gold dragons.

Alemi continues:

"We will move our souls into the Gold Dragons. In these powerful forms, nothing will be able to stop us. I, Alemi, will undergo the process first."

He nods, and a gold dragon comes forward. Alemi merges with the dragon, and roars. Now with the dragon voice,

"Now, who will be next?"

Kendry round 5:
Meanwhile, Kendry rides the dragon. Flame is getting angry, and finally decides to rid himself of the small creature near the back of his head. Suddenly, his great head dips down and his feet come up. First his right foot rips Kendry from his head, and his left foot grabs hold and tears. (26 HP damage) Almost instantly, his head reaches down and the great mouth grabs hold of Kendry. (18 HP damage) His mighty teeth sink into the hafling, crushing him and holding him tight.

His feather and rope ripped from him, Kendry is pinned.

During the assault, Flame dropped almost to the ground, his concentration taken by the attack. Yet with a might flap of his wings he stablizes and continues his flight to the East.

Kendry round 6:
Flame holds Kendry tight in his mouth, preventing Kendry from escaping. It is time to end this ordeal. Somehow this small creature both deafened and confused him. With great delight Flame breathes fire through his clenched teeth.

Kendry dies [end of round 6 hp: -52/58]  d20=11
Saturday June 3rd, 2006 12:50:55 AM

[Concentration: d20-41=-30] Kendry finds it hard to concentrate enough to cast his blinking spell after suffering damage of 44 in the 5th round. Ah - I waited too long crosses his mind as he is ripped from the neck, and finds himself in the dragon's mouth. Where'd that feather go? Wonder how Airin is doing...

Kendry's bones snap under the ongoing pressure, and organs rupture. Amidst flashes of pain and dull numbness, his last thought is that of his mother comforting him as a child when he was awakened by a nightmare. Flames wash over his dying body, and where does consciousness go?

Without a minute's thought he shapeshifts into a giant eagle and takes off in the direction or the retreating form of Flame or in the direction that the dragon went. His mind tells him only one thing... he must find Kendry and fast.

Podo Danderfluff Pipewood
Sunday June 4th, 2006 5:50:43 PM

As Podo stands before the great Golden Dragons, a sharp pain racks his body and he knows his cousin is gone.

Podo raises his arm and steps forth to accept Alemi's plea. "I! Here I am!" "For God and County, for my fallen breathen, I stand forth to serve you!" states Podo to Alemi the Great Golden Dragon.

Sunday June 4th, 2006 11:44:04 PM

Gargulus is gone with Maab/Roc. Flame has flown off. The fey-army has moved away. All is well.

Or is it?

Hundreds of glittering golden dragons lands on Oshirr House and Alemi offers to move thier souls into the dragons to end the war. Tishe' is stunned by the rapid turn of events and it takes a moment for her to get her mind working again. Yet it is not her inner voice but the gravelly utterance of Bralin that gives the most wisdom.

"Gargulus used illusion once before, and I don't like the idea of moving souls around... that is Necromantic magic. What if all this be a final gambit of Gargulus to trap us?"

She looks hard at the dragons and Alemi to see if it might be illusion (Spellcraft: 29) The brown-haired girl does NOT offer her soul to be part of the gold dragons.

The six bats continue to pursue the army, flying and biting.

Snout stays with his human, once again in his rightful spot.

Round 7 - DM Kelly
Monday June 5th, 2006 11:17:37 PM

Gilan acts first, as it is now certain that Kendry was last seen on the back of the dragon's head. Now the dragon is gone, and Kendry is not to be found. Turning into an eagle, Gilan flies as fast as possible the direction the dragon took. In the distance, he can see the dragon, and it is clear that the dragon is moving more than twice as fast away from him.
Gilan roll spot check DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {You see the dragon drop a smouldering object as he continues to fly East.}

Podo meanwhile volunteers to be transfered into a gold dragon while Bralin and Tishe wonder at how Alemi's plan differs from that of Gargul.

However, it is not Alemi that answers.

Rising up into the air above them all, a man, no more than a man. All eyes are drawn to him.

"I am Jericho, it is I who created this Wold. It is I who have invited these golden dragons to help Alemi and Domi. Gargulus grows in power, and threatens to undo all that I have done. Though I have withdrawn from the Wold to allow it to develop, I still care deeply for it. The dragons are an allie, not a slave as Gargul's creatures. They keep thier souls, and merely act for a brief time to help. Yet Podo, you have too much to do to help any further. We cannot risk you. You and your friends need to go back to your time. You have gained much knowledge. Knowledge and the feystone may help you in your time to maintain the Wold."

Gilan just barely notices the object that is dropped by the dragon. Though the monster is even now outdistancing him he has a feeling that the dropped form is more important. His decision is made once again in a moment as he tucks his wings in close to his body. It is now a race towards the ground after the dropped object.

In this form he hopes to reach the object before it hits the ground and snatch it on the go. The one thing that maybe impossible is to pull out before he himself smacks into the Wold...but that is the thrill of the dive.

Tuesday June 6th, 2006 10:14:41 AM

"FLY GILAN FLY!!!" Airin shouts to her friend as they fly after Flame.
Airin also makes the spot check and notices the smouldering object that falls to the ground!

"THERE GILAN!!! THAT MUST BE KENDRY!!!!"

Oh mother of nature don't let this be true...

Airin thinks about the mirror... the lover...

"Take me down Gilan" if it is kendry Airin will do anything to save him.

"My lifeforce for the one I love"

A little twinkle of light leaves Airin's tiny body and spurs towards Kendry. She sends a lot of her life force towards him (40Hp - Kendry gains 80Hp) that hopefully will be sufficient to bring him back to life.

Airin nearly passes out considering the incredible amount of life force she just send to Kendry and sinks to her knees besides him.

"Get back here you fool - get back here for me"

Podo D. Danderfluff
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 1:12:24 PM

Upon hearing The Jericho speak, Podo falls to his knees, head bowed.

After The Jericho finishes, Podo can be heard saying, "As you wish, your will be done."

Rising to his feet, Podo Danderfluff Pipewood, asks the The Jericho, about his cousin Kendry. "Do you know if my cousin Kendry is alright? He was tanglefoot'd to the top of Flame's head. I thought I felt a pain of loss, but you might be able to tell us if his heart still beats...please?

Peerimus
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 5:16:17 PM

Peerimus lands atop the battlements. Another Creator. He finds a portion of hiimself wishing to stay here in this time, this time of legends. What legends did Domi and Alemi age with he wondered.

The druid takes a small moment and offers a prayer for Kendry and Airin as his eyes lose sight of the dragon.

Bralin
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 9:05:23 PM

Bralin offers no argument. The creator of the Wold spoke. End of discussion.

The dwarf wills himself to visibility and drifts to the ground. He bows his head in acknowledgement.

"As you say," he replies.

The past comes to an end - DM Kelly
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 9:29:05 PM

Gilan and Airin fly towards the smouldering object dropped by the dragon. They are too far behind to catch it before it hits the ground. When they come across it, it is evident that it was Kendry. The combination of the dragons bite and claw, his breath weapon and the fall has left little of Kendry to recognize. Yet you can tell from a few of the possessions still left that it is he. Airin tries to help, but he is too far gone. Gilan picks him up and they fly back to the Oshirr House.

Meanwhile, the Jericho answers Podo.

"I am afraid he no longer lives, yet there may be hope still. He is gone in this time, yet if in the future he lives you may yet rejoin him. Perhaps the feystone will help bring his body and soul back together in your time if they are apart."

Bralin is faithful, and follows the wishes of the creator without question.

The Jericho uses the feystone to join Domi and the students with the golden dragons.

Gilan and Airin return with the charred body of Kendry, and it is clear that Airin is not only physically but emotionally spent.

Somehow Maab has returned, and she is in her lovely nymph form. She offers a drink of First Water to Airin, which heals the physical damage but cannot heal her heart.

Maab bows to the group and says:

"You have done much to help. Here, take this Water to your time. If Kendry is dead, use it to heal him and use the feystone to restore his soul. Thanks, and remember to use what you have learned to help the Wold."

The Jericho adds:
"See us off, take the Feystone, and return to your time. You must then decide how to save the Wold in your time using what you have learned here as well as other information that other questers have discovered. All here thank you for your help. You have given them hope. Now take this hope to the people of your time. Farewell."

The Jericho waves his hand and the party disappears, reappearing in the inner sanctum of Lemtrovex's temple.

There a priest that they met before in the temple anxiously awaits their return. Kendry is whole, yet his body is still. Pouring First Water into him brings his body to life, yet his eyes have a dull stare. The feystone glows, and when touched to Kendry his soul leaps into his body. He looks around, wondering what happened.

(feel free to have discussions about the experience and the feystone if you would like)

When you are done talking amoung yourselves, the priest teleports you back home.

OOC: Thanks everyone, I had fun and learned a lot. I had to speed this up at the end, as I will be gone and didn't want to drag it out. Kim, I planned on allowing Inge to have Airin bring you back to life with her gift. That is why I minimized the damage from the post where you were hit by the breath weapon and were falling towards her. You would have none of it, so the 'realistic' damage inflicted by Flame was way beyond what I deemed as recoverable. I hope everyone enjoyed the game, and thanks for putting up with a new DM.

I will find out the rewards for participating and let you know.

Podo Danderfluff Pipewood
Tuesday June 6th, 2006 11:47:18 PM

"Kendry! You live! Great to see you again! Did you know I got to speak to The Jericho?" excitedly exclaims Podo to Kendry.

Kendry
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 12:13:45 AM

Initially disoriented, Kendry initially blinks as his soul is restored to his body. He looks around and listens, trying to gain his bearings.

"The... the Jericho?" he repeats Podo's words. For an instant, he looks to find the face of his mother, for some reason.

Slowly, he recognizes the cave in which they fought just a few days ago - and millennia in the future.

"Where is that dragon?" he asks. He moistens his tongue, suddenly feeling thirsty. "And Oshirr House? Does it stand?"

Kim - a few OOC notes
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 12:14:29 AM

1st - Kelly - that's okay. I did not mind Flame killing Kendry. Just wanted to make sure that the means was possible! And it was kind of you to mitigate the damage on the first time around.

2nd - Kendry had sent messages to Maab via the freed fey. She returned Snout with a big canvas bag on his back. Someone might want to find out what was (is) in the canvas bag.

3rd - Inge - Thanks for having Airin reach out to the crispy critter! Kendry will have to arrange for a nice dinner - something fried, I suppose. ;-)

4th - JamesW - Thanks for sending Gilan after Kendry! I was genuinely touched.

5th - Aarggh! - Kendry missed meeting The Jericho in person! And the transformation of Alemi into Lemtrovex!

6th - How much of the First Water was the group able to bring back?

7th - It's been fun playing with you all. Thanks also to Kelly, Al, Adam & Drew for DMing. [Wait - wasn't there someone else who did so, too?]

Tishe' and Snout
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 6:41:23 AM

Brown eyes nearly glow in the young woman's face, as Tishe' meets The Jericho and learns that thier path lies not with the dragons. Which, despite the loss of the experience of flight, is not a bad thing in her mind.

The Jericho, Alemi, and Maab give them instructions and farewells, and the mystic with her crocodile companion come back to the temple, restore Kendry (give him a big hug), and decide what to do with the Fey Stone.

Only then does Tishe' wonder what is in the canvas bag on the back of Snout. She opens it in front of everyone to display anything that is inside.

OOC: Hey everyone, thanks for a great game. It was kind of haphazard for me popping up in the middle and then gone for most of the last battle, but I had a lot of fun. And I hope that my absence didn't hurt anyone else's fun.
Kelly, Adam, and Drew, thanks for guiding us through the module; big thanks to all.
And especially good since this is the first time in a LOOOONG time that I've played with both my brothers in one adventure :) Mike, Dan, when was the last time we've all been only players together?

Airin
Wednesday June 7th, 2006 10:17:11 AM

As she sees her powers fail to bring back Kendry her eyes fill with tears. Looking at Gilan she asks him to take her and Kendry back to the Oshir House.

There Queen Maab offers the first water to her making airin feel a lot better right away yet not her heart.

Then suddenly she finds herself where it all started. Back in the temple of Lemtrovex...
There her love is brought back to life and she rejoices. Her heart pounds as she observes life being restored in this blackened body...

"Oh you fool..." she says and embraces Kendry tears of joy rolling down her cheeks.

Time to go home now...

Friends thank you very much for this fantastic adventure. DM's thanks a lot for all the hard work. I know we've stretched you to the limit sometimes, but it was worth it.

All other players. Thanks a lot for the great companionship. It's been awsome roleplaying from everyone and I enjoyed it A LOT!!!
I look forward to be in other Taps with you all.

Leaving the DFR3 Tap game, alive and happy.

Thanks you, Inge.

Kelly - Are you going to throw us back into the Giggling Ghost? Or should we roleplay that on our own?

Kelly
Thursday June 8th, 2006 3:06:45 PM

As the priest casts the spell that teleports you, instantly you find yourself and your companions tumbling out of a tapestry onto the floor of the Giggling Ghost. A table upturns, and mead spills onto the floor. Perhaps he should have given warning as to where he was sending you.

Everyone is there and fine, though Kendry has extensive burns to his clothes. The canvas bag contains the vials of water, yet when you try the First Water you find that it does not age well. Somehow over time the water has become corrupted, even stored in vials.

Kelly DFR3 reward - repost from Cayzle who reposted from Carl
Thursday June 8th, 2006 10:19:15 PM

Repost from LnB Sept. 8, 2005:

Some folk have requested a little clarification on the rewards for attending Woldcon, and how they are divided up. The following example should clear things up.

Player Carl goes to Woldcon. Carl plays 2 characters in the Wold. They are:

1) 2nd level Binky the Pixie Cobbler in game 26

1) Lord Rashgag "Barmy" Bloodletter (Level 18), a half-demon Cleric/ Assassin/ Rogue/ Horse Botherer/ Unholy Buttkicker in game 407.

As a reward for attending Woldcon Carl may take one tenth of the starting cash sum (listed on page 135 of the DMG) for ONE of his characters, and distribute that same amount among the other characters of the game that the chosen character is in. How does that work?

Here are the rewards at each level:

Level 1: Is it really worth the bother?
Level 2: 90GP
Level 3: 270GP
Level 4: 540GP
Level 5: 900GP
Level 6: 1300GP
Level 7: 1900GP
Level 8: 2700GP
Level 9: 3600GP
Level 10: 4900GP
Level 11: 6600GP
Level 12: 8800GP
Level 13: 11,000GP
Level 14: 15,000GP
Level 15: 20,000GP
Level 16: 26,000GP
Level 17: 34,000GP
Level 18: 44,000GP
Level 19: 58,000GP
Level 20: 76,000GP

So Binky could give each of his happy pals in Game 26 90GP each. That's 90gp for Binky, 90gp for Flouncy Phyllis, 90gp for Tender Tom Twinkletoes and so on.

OR Lord Rashgag could send a team of horses dragging a cart to each of his companions in Game 407, groaning under the weight of 44,000gp. That's 44,000gp for Lord Rashgag himself (Bu-wa-ha-haa!), 44,000gp for Kruurl of the Spinning Knives, 44,000gp for Archduke Ichabod the Incontinent and so on.

Under no circumstances may Lord Rashgag, in a moment of utter madness and uncharacteristic altruism, offload any portion (or even all) of his 44,000gp to Binky over in Game 26. This would be wrong. A 2nd level pixie cobbler with a Mace of Terror? I don't think so. And even if Binky could get over the lava moat, through the hordes of guardian golems and into the heart of Castle Forboding itself, were he then to offer Lord Rashgag his paltry 90gp (which he can't), he'd only get a hearty beating and a +12 boot up the bum for his troubles.

Let this be my decree! Let all follow my ruling! Let all those who fail to understand my ruling be taken from this place and be flogged within an inch of their paltry lives, then stripped of all their worldly possessions, and let those possessions then be gathered up into a great pile and be brought unto me that I might render them into hard cash in non-sequential bills!

Thus I have spoken! Thus will it be done!

Carl
